Loser Round 4: Damian Wayne (DC) vs. Jason Todd (DC)
Tumblr media
A rematch? It's so funny how the bracket turned out this way.
Propaganda under the cut.
Damian Wayne (9-14):
Damian is a kid who was raised as an assassin and because of that when he first appears he has some really messed up ideas of how to prove himself to his father by being aggressive with the criminals they capture and attacking his brother. Because of this people act like he is the most evil character ever and refuse to give him any grace. They make him out to be this awful irredeemable monster who just wants to kill his brother and hurt people. If the fandom isn’t making his out to be The Worst(tm) then they are ignoring his existence all-together. He is a really interesting character who has done some not so great things but he’s grown and learned a lot through various character arcs (as much of an arc as a comic book character can have) and he deserves to be acknowledged for himself and not just as a villain so that people can woobify his brother.
——
HES JUST A LITTLE BABY GUY!!!!! Little baby man raised as an assassin and learning how to be a real person <3. But because he was kind of a dick and also a little stabby early-on, especially to the fandom's main "so sad uwu depressed baby" blorbo (and also he's not white), people treat him like he's satan incarnate
Jason Todd (~12):
Most of the Tumblr fandom likes this guy but if you step outside this website then wham so many people say he got what he deserved as a kid and Batman can't be cool if he's a dad so it's important for Batman to trash-talk his dead child constantly so we can all agree what a bad idea it was. Also wanna highlight that a lot of the records we have from fans at the time were clear they disliked Robin for BEING a child. Like a lot of the little dude characters in this tournament are treated too harshly for making an ugly choice and the fans aren't being understanding or sympathetic that the choice is made by a child character who is immature and not developed and strong enough to make a good choice and stuff. But THIS little dude was specifically hated FOR being a child. People wanted tough loner guy Batman not Batdad and his little buddy. The first Robin would drive back from college and guest star sometimes and be advertised as the Teen Wonder and people were like yeah okay but then Batman actually starts being a single parent for a child with needs and people were like UGH not the BOY Wonder. Today pretty much everywhere you see Batman fans saying Batman is better solo, no kid, it's not realistic to have a kid, a kid shouldn't be in the movies blah. Even if the comics they always find a way to send away the new kid so that Batman never has to parent. So all the Robins are being excluded from the narrative but I think this one is THE symbol of Batman fans hating a child character just for being a child.
-
Robin, Jason Todd, THE hated child character. In the 1980s, Batman comics had become increasingly dark and gritty. According to editor O'Neil himself, the courted audience wasn't kids but 19-40 year old men with disposable income. Batman's child sidekick, Robin, was offensively campy and childish. Fans called him wimpy, annoying, dumb, bratty, etc. Also people complained that Batman acting like an affectionate dad was unmanly and gay. Robin acts violent and emotional and people are like "ew he's so childish and emotional"—and then Batman literally acts just as murderously and emotionally within literally the same exact story and people are like "wow he's so dark and tortured". So in 1988 (after brutalizing Batgirl to get rid of her for being too bright and nice and kid-friendly), DC held a paid poll for fans to vote for Robin to live or die. O'Neil claims he heard a fan (a grown man with a dayjob as a lawyer) programmed a phone to spam kill votes. One fanguy claimed that he sold his Mercedes to buy kill votes (probably an exaggeration but still). By less than 1% margin, the vote decided to kill Robin in a spectacularly violent way. Anyway the 1989 Batman movie brought in a huge wave of new child comicbook fans who liked the new Robin (a very cool teenage high school Robin with a driver's license and a girlfriend), and DC started a separate Robin-less Batman series called Legends of the Dark Knight to make the anti-Robin writers and fans happy. But to this day, many fans agree it was a good idea to kill off the other Robin so that his foolish death reminds other characters to never be childish and stupid again. Bonus: the current Robin (usually a traumatized 10-year-old) has also been facing some pretty loud hatred for over 15 years.

I’ve noticed a lot of rancid takes about Taliesin’s characters that are annoying me, so I’m going to rant for a minute.
Tal has perfected the art of creating paradoxical characters, and I think a lot of people end up getting lost and confused in the layers. This is not a “if you don't get it, you’re dumb” type of thing. It’s just that I wish people would truly ponder his characters and why they’re the way they are because they’re not the stereotypical protagonists that North American entertainment focuses on. They’re not strictly kind and generous, intelligent and charming, or hateful and arrogant. They’re all of the above.
A lot of western media features characters that are fairly cut and dry and easy to understand. There isn’t a ton of complexity happening, and from what I’ve seen, the majority of the people hating on his characters and role-play style are from areas where they aren't used to Tal’s type of character. They’re not used to characters having multiple characteristics that seem to contradict each other all at once (even though that’s how people are in real life). I’m guessing that’s part of why they don't like them, but who knows.
Caduceus is the least paradoxical of his characters, which is why I think most people say he’s their favorite of Tal’s characters. He is the personification of a fluffy blanket and a warm hug. What’s not to love?? Percy, Molly/Kingsley, and Ashton on the other hand, are all much rougher around the edges. The point of them is to provide the opposite of comfort for the audience; they're meant to make people a little uncomfortable. They hold up a mirror to the audience and force us to look at the parts of humanity that we try to avoid. Not the pure evil of mankind that Matt’s villains often show, but something even more sad and hard to swallow.
Audiences tend to like characters that deal with trauma through humor and/or charm. People benefit from these types of characters by laughing at them or lusting over them. There’s nothing wrong with this by any means; that’s all part of the fun of fandom! However, characters that deal with their trauma in ways that are more raw and painful tend to be disliked.
Percy is filled with constant fear that his past will haunt his future. He is convinced that wherever he goes, the darkness will follow and the pain awaits. He has horrible nightmares and lives with incessant paranoia, yet faces the deadliest monsters, demons, gods, etc with nothing but his wit and a gun. He can't stop inventing, not just to glorify himself but to protect everyone. He’s so many things at once, which is what makes him so real and complex and fascinating.
Molly/Kingsley’s story is about wondering who you truly are and not meeting expectations of those you care about. Imagine that you’re not the only one comparing yourself to someone else; all your friends are too. You’re trying to figure out what defines you while feeling like everyone you know wants you to be someone else. His story is also filled with questions about nihilism and whether or not anything truly matters, including identity.
Ashton represents the endless loneliness of abandonment and feeling like no matter what you do, those you love will never care about you as much as you care about them. He pushes people away and acts like he doesn’t have a care in the world while simultaneously doing everything he can to grip onto his friends. He is jealous of Laudna for the way she died because it showed how loved she was, and how sick is that? To be jealous of someone’s death? To try and force someone to admit that they haven’t gotten over their issues because you can’t accept that it’s possible to overcome yours? What's wrong with you? If it’s possible for people to do that, why can't you? What’s wrong with you? Why is it so hard for you when it seems so easy for others? What’s wrong with you? They represent not just the physical, but the emotional chronic pain that most people don’t have to think about every day.
I have so much more to say about these amazing characters, but that would take an entire novel. They emotionally bleed all over the place. While they can still be lighthearted and humorous at times, they’re often really messy in various ways. But that doesn’t stop them from being so loving and wonderful at the same time!
TL;DR, Taliesin’s characters are incredible and I’m so grateful that he is willing to play them in such a raw and real way for those of us that aren’t always funny or charming enough about our trauma to make society like us.

I've never heard anyone talk about this theory on tumblr, but I was curious to ask you. What do you think about Ronan becoming a Grysks spy? I saw such an idea in one fanfic, but there they made Ronan just an ambitious and stupid villain. But I thought about and decided that given its canonical nature, such a development of events also seems to be probable to some extent. It seemed to me so, because look: Ronan in Ascendancy is even more vulnerable than Eli, who managed to build good relations with at least Vah'nya and Ar'alani, he obviously needs a lot of time to somehow get along with at least a brother-in-misfortune, and already especially with someone else. In essence, he is alone, and his character also repels the Chiss from him, which leads to their distrust and unwillingness to explain anything to him. A person who communicates little with anyone and understands little is easy to take advantage of, besides, attachment to some things or people is something that the Grysk are only too good at pressuring, with intimidation or cunning. And Ronan is attachmented to Krennic, to the Empire, to the Death Star, so in theory they have something to hit. In addition, if he is faithful to someone, then he is faithful, as we see, almost to the end. And if someone else could become for him a figure like Krennic to whom he "swears" - this person could push him into many things.
If anything, I'm not saying that this is a full-fledged theory and it will be so in the canon. These are just my thoughts on one of hundreds of possible scenarios. I was wondering how likely you think this is?
Oooh... honestly, as much as I love Ronan, I think that's very likely. I think it's even likelier when you consider Thrawn's suggestion to Ar'alani about feeding Ronan the right kind of information because they know he's a potential traitor.
Looking at the book, it's hard to tell if they mean that in the sense of feeding the Empire information through him or using him to misled the Grysks but both scenarios are kind of sad because neither assumes an eventual assimilation into the Ascendancy (which I'm trying to fix in my fic lol).
But yes, as you said Ronan is a very likely target for the Grysks. Ar'alani herself points it out and if something isn't done to prevent it, Ronan could easily be converted into a Grysk agent. The moment he realizes Thrawn didn't send him on some secret mission to find Chiss jedi, he'll grow even more distrustful of him. And if his experience in the Ascendancy is as negative as we assume it'll be, there's plenty of dislike there for the Grysks to feed and exploit.
In a way, characters with a lot of zeal and extreme views always have that problem. They're just... unstable. Kind of like Anakin in the prequels, because they feel so strongly about something they're open to manipulation and their loyalties can be exploited with the right kind of nudging.
That said, making Ronan's motivation ambition and depriving him of his intellect is just... dumb. Ronan genuinely believes he's on the side of the greater good, that the Empire is doing good, etc. I can see the Grysks convincing him that the Chiss are the bad guys in the grand scheme of things, maybe that they're planning to betray or attack the Empire and use his loyalty and inflated self-righteousness to pit him against them.
The thing about Ronan, I think, is that he has an eye for detail and is good at noticing things and reading people (e.g. realizing that Vah'nya is force sensitive) but he's not as good at using that information to come to the right conclusions. Sometimes he does and that's when his skills shine but sometimes his takes are just so far off it's funny.
Whether it's because he tends to overthink or because his biases skew his thinking, it's still a flaw and one that could be exploited.
My only hope for Ronan resisting the Grysks' manipulation is that he's already seen what they're capable of. There's this moment in the book where he gets a very strong reaction to seeing the bodies they've left behind ("Ronan nodded silently from his seat at the conference room table, trying very hard not to be sick. [...] He tried to remind himself that these men had been thieves who’d stolen from Stardust and the Empire, and that they deserved punishment. The rationalization didn’t help.")
At the end of the day, Ronan isn't cruel and doesn't have the stomach for cruelty. And that could be the only thing stopping him from trusting the Grysks who don't have a problem openly showing their ruthlessness. But, of course, if he's already in a bad place and vulnerable to manipulation, that might not be enough to save him.

The Dancing Men pt 3
Last time things took a turn for the decidedly worse with our client dead and his wife suffering a bullet to the brain. All because of the idiosyncracies of British public transport and Holmes dislike of giving away any hint of what he is thinking until he has all his ducks in rows.
Also he sent a 'youth' with a message to a murderer.
If any visitor were to call asking for Mrs. Hilton Cubitt no information should be given as to her condition, but he was to be shown at once into the drawing-room. He impressed these points upon them with the utmost earnestness. Finally he led the way into the drawing-room...
Tumblr media
“I think that I can help you to pass an hour in an interesting and profitable manner,” said Holmes...
There are so many ways a sentence like that could end...
👀
...spreading out in front of him the various papers upon which were recorded the antics of the dancing men.
Ah, yes... puzzle time again. What else could he have meant?
And now we are having a code-breaking lesson. Love a good code-breaking lesson. Really it's their own fault for not using a more complex cypher; simple substitution cyphers are always going to be easy to break. You need to make it more complicated. Like, every six letters the symbols move one letter earlier in the alphabet or something like that. Or muddle the letters up in a prearranged pattern.
"...it was probable from the way in which the flags were distributed that they were used to break the sentence up into words."
I understand that these encrypted messages led to death and misery, but this is adorable. The letters at the ends of the words carry little stop flags.
Tumblr media
"It might be ‘sever,’ or ‘lever,’ or ‘never.’"
Or defer or deter or meter or Peter or Meier or vexed...
“I expect him here every instant.” “But why should he come?” “Because I have written and asked him.”
Bless his heart. Got to wonder what Inspector Martin thought Holmes was doing by drawing out a lot of little dancing men and then sending them to the person he just named in his little explanation.
It's not a massive leap of logic.
"I may have threatened her, God forgive me, but I would not have touched a hair of her pretty head."
My dude, you literally told the woman to prepare to meet her god. I do not know why you are surprised that people would think you wanted to hurt her. That is not the sort of thing you send messages about when you don't want to hurt someone.
"I tell you there was never a man in this world loved a woman more than I loved her. I had a right to her. She was pledged to me years ago. Who was this Englishman that he should come between us? I tell you that I had the first right to her, and that I was only claiming my own."
Tumblr media
That is not how love works.
“You wrote it? There was no one on earth outside the Joint who knew the secret of the dancing men. How came you to write it?”
Dude, it's literally just a substitution cypher.
Tumblr media
“It is my duty to warn you that it will be used against you,” cried the inspector, with the magnificent fair-play of the British criminal law.
Tumblr media
“First of all, I want you gentlemen to understand that I have known this lady since she was a child."
I used the beheading gif too early. I memed too far, too fast.
Tumblr media
"I wrote to her, but got no answer."
Some might say that is an answer.
"Of Mrs. Hilton Cubitt I only know that I have heard she recovered entirely, and that she still remains a widow, devoting her whole life to the care of the poor and to the administration of her husband's estate."
Glad she recovered, sad for literally everything else.
Yeah, this is a sad one. And so dumb... like... get over yourself. She's married to someone else and she's not replying to your messages. Just move the fuck on. Wow.

MHA MANGA/ANIME SPOILERS
Mentions of: E*ji Todoroki/Endeavourwhore, abuse, Todoroki stuff.
———
Nothing upsets me more than when people attempt to blame the Todoroki kids for all of that shit that happened.
Especially Touya.
People go on to say that Touya was a brat for the way he acted. And that his downfall was HIS fault.
No?
Like- Endeavour made Touya believed his entire worth was based on being a hero. And we all saw how Touya reacted to him saying there’s more to life than being a hero.
Which to me is an obvious sign of saying, "You don’t have to do this anymore. I have a replacement." But that’s just me. We don’t know what the characters true thought processes are so we won’t really know.
But for Touya’s whole life, it was his soul purpose to be the number one hero for his father. Only for it to suddenly be cut off and taken away from him.
He was a child. Children are usually reliant on their parents praise and attention, and for someone to suddenly cut that off from them just like that? That's going to mess anyone up. Especially a child And ESPECIALLY Touya.
Not to mention the fact that he never experienced what a loving marriage between parents or loving household? Considering Rei and Endevour’s marriage being arranged And for a good while, Touya probably couldn’t bond properly in the beginning with her due in training?
Like how Shoto couldn’t play with his siblings because he was training (I don’t know exactly if I’m wrong correct me if I am).
And I see people talk about how Natsuo and Fuyumi could’ve helped.
The even YOUNGER victims of neglect? Help their oldest and younger brothers?
What were they supposed to do? Hit their 6’5 father who bursts into flames?
And people even blame Rei. I understand she burned Shoto and caused him a lot of trauma from that.
But why did she do that? Because she went insane. And why did she go insane? Because of Endeavour.
The only person who isn’t a victim of abuse in the entire Todoroki family is Endeavour. He’s the problem.
And always HAS been the problem. Redemption arc or not, he deserves everything that has come to bite him in the ass.
And for what? A status that shouldn’t mean jack considering saving people is your job? And yet he’s the one hurting people. That’s not very heroic, if I’m being honest.
Touya (Dabi) wasn’t saved. So he eventually became a villain, while Shoto was. The roles could have been easily flipped.
Dude was in a coma for 3 years, and that itself probably made the whole thing even worse for him. Bro wanted to apologize to his mom and the others; he wanted Endeavour to look at him again, and he tried to go home. Only to see the same thing happen to Shoto.
Dude had 3 years of his life wasted. That would make a person spiral. Who knows what it does to an already abused, traumatized kid whose quirk quite literally is killing him?
And not to mention his body burning? And a massive forest fire and burned flesh being replaced with ROTTEN skin? I’m surprised the dude even lasted that long before going batshit.
And the worst and most ironic shit ever. Is the fact that Touya had an ice quirk the entire time. It just wasn’t unlocked.
All of the pain and suffering was for nothing. And it’s just downright sad that he was his father's "perfect masterpiece" the entire time.
I will say I don’t like how Dabi hates Shoto for something he had no absolute control over, but it’s understandable.
You would hate the thing that supposedly "screwed you over." And why would it really make a difference if Dabi wanted to kill Shoto? He never necessarily bonded with him to form an attachment (he kind of disliked him from the get-go), And also due to the fact that Dabi has already killed people.
So what’s another person? Especially one you disliked the moment they were born, right? It’s screwed up, yeah, of course, but I can see why he’d be like that.
He lost his "purpose" all because Endeavour deemed the other child "more worthy," so no wonder.
(He’s a dumb waste of space if you ask me)
Which is also the endeavor’s fault. I’m not justifying Dabi’s actions or whatever.
No matter what, he’s still a villain, which is bad or whatever (I still love him and enjoy him slaying everyone💀).
But it’s understandable. And there’s a reason why. But there’s no way in hell that Endeavour is good.
Sure, he’s trying to change, but that doesn’t change what you’ve done already.
He’s the real villain here. And also, I like the evil/villain/anti-hero characters the most so maybe I’m biased or whatever you think.
But I’m sick of people saying that it’s their fault for everything that happened.
It isn’t.
They were put in a place of abuse. So they eventually acted negativity to that abuse.
And I certainly can’t wait for Endeavor trash to die at Dabi’s hands. I’ll be dancing on his ashes beatboxing.
Now I’m gonna go read happy Todoroki siblings fanfiction till I pass out. GOOD DAY TO YOU.
(IDC about your opinion if it isn’t the right one 🥱. Especially if you try to defend flameshit over there)

In my understanding this tiktok video (https ://vt.tiktok.com/ZSLt7AAgE/) literally is how will grayson treat other women that's not emory scott, including his initial stages of escort-fuck buddy-friendship thing with alex, and his character as a man and his relationship turns me off so bad, that i rooted less for him each time he appeared on page as i lose my respect towards how he treats women in general. Like we knew Michael and Damon were shit, but they both ADMITTED to it, but Will was always labelled as "amazing" and all good things, but his character was like THAT? Nah. The same goes with alex when she used others to hurt aydin, idk i find men, women, MCs & FMCs like them so icky, so i especially hate reading about fictional characters with these traits. What i hate about alex was that she could've been like emmy where she would've beenjust jealous n her head, and not humiliate or touch her physically to put her down, but alex literally just proves the stereotype of fighting over a dumb guy with an innocent woman. I disliked that banks and rika fight in hideaway for the same reason too. I can understand where they came from, but i fucking hated it. I hate it even more when other female reader cheered them on for it. I hated the will/damon/aydin jealousy scenes with a passion too. In fact, I would usually avoid these scenes in romance books if i can, because authors spent so much time wasting their talents on scenes of characters being jealous for other LIs, than building ACTUAL happiness & chemistry between them. I couldn't avoid this trope for this book especially, because i was never warned that the trope "other men/women drama" with a touch of "treating non-Love Interest like shit" trope were so fucking bad in Nightfall, it just ruins everything about Will for me.
Personally though, i'm not a big fan of both alex and will, and even though i know you're not very fond of alex too, i think based on one of your older asks about willalex's relationship, you described your understanding of alex's place in will's life differently than i would have. I don't have any problems with differing opinions though. I feel like you saw and put a lot more importance of alex's presence in will's life more than i did, or even will did. It's interesting how we interpret characters, because while i can agree with some of your interpretations of them, i have a very opposite opinion with the others. I also always thought it was kinda sad that for someone who was "close" to will, alex was the one who always "seems" to care more about will, than the other way around. But it's not like her care matters so much, because it still doesn't change will for the better, he only just got less lonely, but was still very self-destructive. For me, even though i knew that alex was a friend and family to will, and is automatically important to him for that, i never saw any hint that she was THAT important to Will personally, even off-page, like how you described in that willalex friendship post. Idk, maybe it's just me.
Because just like damon who had an exception towards winter, will too had an exception towards emmy, where he used everything he can as long as they're not emmy. So his relationship with alex too wasnt always sincere or deep, they only bonded through shallow things which then after one or two years of casual friendship, made them mirrors of each other's pain (or so they thought, they're shallow people, i can't always take their observations seriously), so i cant see why people fawn or get mad over their relationship too much. The fact that will couldn't get any friends outside of the horsemen if they're not their friends' girls, escorts, people he can pay with money, or people of similar status with him, even with all his status and privilege, already tells a lot about his classist and shallow personility. I kinda understand though being friends with people of the same class, since it's easier to get along with people who gets you immidiately without feeling like you're being judge for it, but still. The more that i think about this side of him too, the lesser i like him.
Idk, and that's the thing, when i read nightfall, i couldn't enjoy willemmy's story, because willemmy was busy destroying themselves and each other, then continue to go back to being jealous of the other, while always letting others intervene their relationship. Even when they had time alone, they always had to involve some third parties in their relationship, which pisses me off so much. It's one thing when people kept on meddling in their relationship, but it's another thing for them to drag others in it, just because they were immature, couldnt handle their feelings like mature adults. Their problems had existed way before alex and aydin got between them. We get the gist already if emory was a stronger woman, so i'm not gonna talk about her, but will. Ah, will, that useless fuck of a character, a character who no one calls him out for his shit. Now, If Will Grayson was a stronger man, Alex Palmer will never be able to slap Emory Scott. The only reason why his friends can treat emmy like shit was because Will lead them by example, just like how the horsemen initially didnt respect rik because michael humiliate him by example. Weak men are truly a fucking disease. Will humiliated and set a standard to how emmy deserves to be treated first, in front of stranger, classmates, and friends, i can't always blame others to not intervene or when emmy had to fight alone, because will grayson, when it matters, never really stood up for emmy. Even in high school he only did when it was for petty shit. The same thing happened when he humiliated her in front of everyone in the train, and letting emmy being insulted again by alex before that orgy. Idk, it's such a cruel thing, he was just as mean as emmy, but it was always overlooked by others. Will grayson is such a turn off for me fr, i can never see myself being attracted to a man or a book boyfriend like him tbh. Damon would never let anyone treats Winter like that, not even her own sister, even though HE was worse for her at first, and this comes from a damon hater alright. Nightfall made me so disappointed of will, i almost skipped nightfall's epilogue and his pov in firenight, if not for emmy's crumbs. All of that drama and pain because he was a pussy.
I hink i really agree with one of your older damon slander asks that said something about hating to read about whiny incompetent male characters, and it's probably not just because of my moral or personality, but also because we had enough of these men in reality! I dont want to escape reality only to find men like the horsemen in stories i read. Will grayson could've been like christian from the made series, but no, he was the walmart version of him.
Idk idc, will grayson didnt do it for me. Anyway, if you want a morally better and ACTUAL loyal pining of ACTUAL mean girl x sunshine amazing characters, i recommend you and your followers The Losers series by Harley Laroux. It's devil's night, but fucking amazing. It's reverse harem though, so if you're not into it then maybe you can just skip it. The main character jessica, was everything that pd wished rika or alex were and would be. Literally. Jessica was THE it girl, and she embraced it. This series was about going over the edge too, and be true to yourself, and just exploring topics of kinks, shame, vulnerability, love, friendships, identity, career, desire, etc. and everything amazing i could think of. Thats all.
I tried to find the tiktok but the link didn’t go anywhere/said the video was unavailable. If you manage to find it again, or one similar, feel free to send it through.
I mean, it’s easy to sit here and say I wish the series had been done differently. There’s plenty I would change in the development of the characters, but there’s only so much I can do before I overhaul everything and start with something new. In that case, wouldn’t I just be using PDs framework/bones to build my own story? But then, aren’t a lot of the series/books in this genre (especially on KU) just made from the same bones? Built on the same or very similar idea? It’s true that there’s nothing new under the sun, but where does inspiration end and stealing begin?
This is all just to say I understand where you’re coming from.
Taking Will out of the super special box I’ve placed him in, examining him without rose-colored glasses, Will’s nothing. Less than nothing, really. He’s not good, he’s not kind, he’s not all that funny. Adding to that, all of these characters, with a few exceptions, are underdeveloped and inconsistent. I wanted more from the mysteries that PD posed, and I wanted more from the “bad guys for a good reason” vibe. What we got was a bunch of immature and messy characters acting like they knew what they were doing, but in reality really proved that privilege can give you a lot of blind spots. DN could have been done better. I’ve never denied that.
If you hate when authors use jealousy as motivation this much, then I can see why you were frustrated reading the series. For a group of people who were about freely experiencing the world with no limitations, and openly shared their S.O.s with their friends occasionally, they sure were jealous a lot. But you know… people get jealous. People also react out of anger and do stupid stuff for reasons that I can’t understand. So I won’t say that Alex should have been like Emmy because Emmy’s reaction was one that I could understand and relate to. Because there are real people who have reacted like Alex. What I didn’t like is that PD framed it as though Emmy was wrong and Alex was right. The reality is that neither of them should have been framed as the superior one. Emmy wasn’t perfect, I just understood her better.
I can see why Will was ruined for you. Like I’ve said before, by the end of NF I was ready to scrap the whole series, save for the past scenes where I agree with the portrayal of his character, and wipe my hands clean.
I feel like you saw and put a lot more importance of alex's presence in will's life more than i did, or even will did.
Honestly, I never saw Alex as important until Nightfall tried to convince us she was. But since that’s the narrative it served us, I tried to examine from that perspective. Why is Alex here? Why is she even relevant? The easy answer is that PD pushed that narrative. But removing that, just analyzing what the story is, and what are we left with? Making it make sense is what I'm trying to do.
I also always thought it was kinda sad that for someone who was "close" to will, alex was the one who always "seems" to care more about will, than the other way around. But it's not like her care matters so much, because it still doesn't change will for the better, he only just got less lonely, but was still very self-destructive.
What I thought was fascinating about this point is that you’re right, but also…
As noted at the end of KS, Will only started improving when Damon returned and his friends started helping him get off drugs. They got him clean, but not sober. I think that’s what finally motivated him to go to BC, because he started realizing he had nothing to offer his friends anymore. On top of that, was he going to rely on them to keep him clean? He couldn’t. He needed to learn to do that on his own. First real grown-up decision he made. Of course, he then became the worst version of himself, too scared to return to a place that offered all his vices so freely because he couldn't trust himself, and too stunted to try. He did the physical work, but none of the emotional or mental work. Alex never helped him with any of that.
She comforted him. She made him think everything he was doing was okay. Maybe she tried to encourage him, but I don’t think she ever pushed him to be better like Emmy would have. Emmy would have demanded better (at least the Emmy that lives in my head, but I think the book version is at least closer to that then Alex ever was). I truly think if Emmy had returned to Thunder Bay by the time Will was released from prison, he would either have never gotten that bad or she would and forced him to get better earlier.
But Emmy wasn’t there. Alex was, and who know why Alex did anything. Was it her character? Was it her flaws? Did she not know what to do for him because she’s literally 19 and life suddenly hands her a client who’s been to prison and has trauma surrounding that, and is angry, and is numbing his pain with vices, but that she can occasionally see a glimmer of something more in? I don’t know. Maybe it was just excellent sex, and even she says that’s what she’s usually thinking about. She says he puts in the work. Either way, because of the way this story was told, it’s up to the reader to make up their own mind. No one is more correct than anyone else, least of all me. I read way too much into this anyway. It’s really not that deep.
The fact that will couldn't get any friends outside of the horsemen if they're not their friends' girls, escorts, people he can pay with money, or people of similar status with him, even with all his status and privilege, already tells a lot about his classist and shallow personility. I kinda understand though being friends with people of the same class
I mean… I’m not sure about this opinion. We see these guys host parties in nearly every book. It’s safe to say they have friends outside each other. And if you want to say all those friendships are shallow because they’re built on who has money and what people can offer each other, that’s fine. I won’t argue that point, though I’d disagree with it. But it’s obvious that these relationships are the most important to them, and since we only see a very narrow time frame of the series, we don’t get a lot of development of outside plot.
Even when they had time alone, they always had to involve some third parties in their relationship, which pisses me off so much.
This is partly why I say I would have preferred if NF had taken place in Thunder Bay like the others or was not the end of the series. The force proximity and limited cast really make it difficult to determine what is Will and Emmy, and what is the situation forcing them to act this way. Not giving either an escape route to see what decisions they’d make without the pressure is frustrating. There is a way to keep this plot and make the series work.
Now, If Will Grayson was a stronger man, Alex Palmer will never be able to slap Emory Scott. The only reason why his friends can treat emmy like shit was because Will lead them by example, just like how the horsemen initially didnt respect rik because michael humiliate him by example.
This is a fair point. I’ve been thinking a lot about friend group dynamics, especially in fours (gee, wonder why), and I realized something that frustrates me about the way the horsemen are set up. I’m gonna segue into something else, so if you want to skip the next few paragraphs, that’s fine.
Michael is set up as the leader, Kai the brains, Damon the passion, and Will the heart. In recent posts, I’ve called Michael the brain, and Kai the heart. Because that’s what makes sense to me in terms of the roles they feel. A leader needs to lead with something, right. It can be courage, it can be heart, it can be logic, but it needs to be something. Just calling Michael a leader because he makes the call doesn’t mean anything. What is he leading with.
But Michael is framed as logical and decisive, so I place him as the brain. Kai is supposed to be compassionate and wise, the voice of reason in the group, which PD calls the brains, but I call the heart. Damon can remain the passion. But that leaves Will with nothing.
Will, in my head, is supposed to be the glue that holds them together. He’s supposed to be the one they go to when they need encouragement, to see things from a better perspective. The one that fixes them, not the other way around.
If that’s the case, he totally fails in his role. He’s so weakened by his various traumas and heartbreak, he can’t fulfill that role. And that’s irritating because it takes the entire series for him to come out of that and then it ends. We never actually get to see Will as he was supposed to be. That’s what pisses me off. So, you’re right. He’s useless.
Back to your point, I think also would have preferred to see a stronger Will. A character who is so happy all the time, the glue that holds the team together, the one they go to when they need to be built back up, and all of a sudden the only thing that makes him so angry he goes over the edge appears in front of him again? To the point he becomes unhinged and starts wilding out? That could have been interesting.
And it’s interesting because we do see a bit of what you were talking about with Will setting the standard when Damon was trashing her at the cove, before they went to beat martin. He straight forwardly, in all seriousness, tells Damon to stop. Will can feel that way about her, but no one else. Somewhere along the way, Will lost that thought. Where’d it go? I don’t know.
Anyway. What can you do?
Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I hope I understood what you were saying and responded fairly. I know I come off as totally pro-Will Grayson, Will Grayson can do no wrong, but that's not the case. I do see the characters clearly (for the most part). Not only that, but I want them to be better. So I make it so.

I honestly really, really love how you portrey FPK in your AU! I never saw PK in game as evil or villainous or anything like that. Hallownest seemed to prosper before his altercation with Radiance. Hallownest was incredibly advanced and probably MUCH bigger than the game even showed. He did seem to push other gods out of his kingdom, which caused Radiance to be forgotten and lead to the fall of the kingdom, but there were no hints anywhere around Hallownest that he was evil. And the music that plays in the White Palace is beautiful and sad and feels so full of regrets. It is not a track fitting the caricature folks have made his concept into. I wanted more about Hallownest and what it was before, and more about PK and who he was as a king. That is why my PK, who grew into my OC Kavuta, had an ego and was vain, but was far from evil and had many regrets over the entire situation and how he was forced to handle it.
I admit I may be a little guilty of... woobifying him, I think is the word. Maybe even very guilty. Some people may not like that, which is fine, but to me FPK is a very relatable character (sure I wrote him that way but, you know what I mean) so it's really hard for me not to feel bad for him. Especially with everything he's gone through in the AU backstory. But I think it explains a lot about him and his actions.
And yeah, the game definitely portrays PK in a very tragic light. I don't think there's a character in the game who outright despises him. Well, except for The Radiance I guess, but we never really get to know her thoughts, maybe her anger was directed at everyone, not him specifically. That's another thing that I have a bit of trouble understanding about a lot of the most common fanon. For example, Hornet hating PK, it's so widespread you'd think there was something pointing towards it in the game, but I don't think she even mentions him at any point, which sure, may suggest they weren't close, but that's just one of many possible interpretations. I don't know, I just sometimes feel like I'm missing something, even though I know I am not.
But yeah, to return to what you said. There is a lot in the game to suggest that he was never meant to be evil, so it's frustrating how often people paint him as the villain of the story. I don't think there is one, even The Radiance is a complex character you can sympathize with to some extent. I guess it's just an inevitable part of the fandom and the fanon they propagate, that they'll latch onto details and make that the only trait of a given character, even if said detail misrepresents the character or is completely made up. It gets quite frustrating but there's nothing to be done, unfortunately.
And I wouldn't even have a problem with people interpreting a character one way or another if they took it as just that - an interpretation, not something universal. But no, PK being a buzzsaw obsessed child murderer is so common in the general fandom that new people who get into the game assume that's just what he is, even if he's so much more complex in the game. It's a shame, really. Also, I'm not saying it's bad to dislike PK. No, not at all, that is entirely subjective, he did do terrible things after all. But when I see someone make up reasons to hate him and then spread that like it's the objective fact from the game? Yeah that's just. That's not it. I don't get that.
I said it before but this is the main reason why I don't really interact with the fandom these days. Or any fandom for that matter. It's too frustrating, and I'd rather focus on my AU since I genuinely do love it, instead of having other people sour HK for me over dumb things I can't change haha

I hate the shift from s2 to s3 because you can tell that some of the characters got reduced to stereotypes in order to make the show more popular for a general audience. I always call it the marvelisation of Stranger Things. The characters are Hopper, Dustin, Erica, and Steve.
Especially the last one. I hate how the show made him into this brainless himbo loser. Like Steve wasn't the smartest in s1 or s2, but he wasn't extremely stupid like the show made him out to be in s3 and s4.
It rubs me off the wrong way when they make him say he's too stupid for college when, in reality, in s2, he didn't want to go because he wanted to stay back for Nancy and make sure she is safe. Now they broke up, but he has Dustin, and you can't tell me he didn't want to stay back for him. Also, going with the "I'm just not sure where life is going direction" is far more interesting than making him too stupid for college. I constantly mourn the Steve we could have gotten if the show didn't make him into such a loser.
Sidenote: Why does the fandom shit on Steve's intelligence when he graduated high school, but Eddie was doing his senior year for the 3rd time in 86?
Anyway, the way the characters treat him in the show is sad. He can't even ask valid questions for a better understanding because the show framed it as oh look Steve is so dumb let Dustin make fun of him constantly. Like s4 takes the cake, all of Steve's "dumb" moments were not stupid. Him asking about the clock was valid bc why tf is Vecna obsessed with clocks? Or questioning Dustins theories. By asking questions, it shows me Steve is present and wants to understand but somehow gets punished for it.
Like in s2 at the Byers' house towards the end, he constantly asked questions, but it was so that the party could elaborate better and everyone was on the same page. Steve knows how to follow a conversation and discussion. He isn't stupid. And if he gets things mixed up, maybe look at his history with head injuries. He absolutely goes through it every season. By making fun of him for recovering from concussions and brain injuries, it's just vile shit.
But the fandom is even worse, like some fics straight up maje characters verbally abuse Steve for his intelligence. Like people saw the show, and instead of making things better, they decided to double down and make him the joke of every conversation to hype up other characters.
If I were Steve, I would leave them asap like those people are not my friends. Nobody ever stands up for him, not even Robin, his supposed best friend. It's honestly sad
Sorry this is so long, but as a Steve girl, every time I get to s3 and s4, I get upset with the way his character is handled.
Confession #78
He unfortunately has been the butt of the joke in some cases, which flat out sucks to witness. He's not a stupid character by any means. Sure, he's probably not the smartest, but he's not dumb whatsoever. I personally had beef with the way Dustin and Steve's friendship was portrayed in season 4. I hated it. And I mentioned before how I dislike Robin's "dingus" nickname for Steve. She overuses it so much in season 3 it was unbearable. Steve asks questions because he's curious, and wants to understand more. That's never a sign of stupidly.
And yeah, I tend to only read Steve x Reader Insert fanfics, because I refuse to read shit by people who use Steve as their punching bag in fics.

If we're talking Danganronpa assholes, what do you think about Togami and his placement on that scale? I kind of feel like they failed to make him sympathetic outside of his FTEs, and even some of those didn't shine a good light on him. I know people who love him, which, no judgment, but I can't really understand why. I get Kokichi's, Natsumi's, Juzo's, and even Hiyoko's appeal, even though a lot of their actions are abhorrent, they do have sympathetic or humanizing qualities. Hiyoko has her friendship with Mahiru that humanized her, Natsumi has her insecurities, Kokichi ultimately wanted to help people (even if he couldn't let go of his pride and paranoia to do so), Juzo has a lot of Internalized issues around being gay—they have sympathetic reasons for how awful they are, whether they do make you feel sympathetic or not, and/or relationships that humanize them. Togami kind of has that, but it's all in bonus content so he doesn't leave a good first impression even just finishing the game if you don't finish those. I guess he has his pride, but does that really humanize him? I, personally, dislike arrogant people. I think a lot of people do. I guess his backstory about his family is sad, but it just seems so out there I could never personally empathize with it. I mean, I can't really empathize with a lot of the people I named, but I still feel like I theoretically could. I never had much trouble accepting I was gay, but I do understand how someone could. I never lashed out due to insecurities, but I have felt insecurities and can empathize with at least the feelings if not the actions. I've never had a friend murdered, but I have lost friends before. I've never done what Kokichi did, or been in his situation, but I have been paranoid in the past (due to hypomanic episodes), and I would want to help people in that situation (even if I wouldn't go about it the same way and think how he did it in a lot of cases to be dumb). But I don't really have anything to latch onto like that for Togami. He genuinely thought the game was fun and was fine with people dying... it wasn't an act at all. I don't know, what do you think? To be, I personally like him the least, though he might not be objectively the worst out of them (it's kind of hard to say which one has the worst behavior, since they all behave so poorly).
Togami's certainly a dick for more than half of DR1... and across the entire franchise, he never loses the arrogance. And although I don't care for arrogance either, I'll always take that over being an overt bully to people. (Which, in fairness... he kind of is a bully to Naegi in some of their FTEs, albeit on a less intense scale than somebody like Hiyoko and or Natsumi. I guess what he has in common with Natsumi is his entitlement; both of them are convinced that the nature of their births rightly grants them anything they should desire.)
I was also pissed off with him for a long time over Chapter 2 of DR1. Disrespecting Fujisaki's corpse like that, fucking with the crime scene just to mislead the group for no real reason? What a fucking asshole. That's still beyond the pale. And even in chapters 5-6, after he learned a valuable lesson about actually considering/accounting for the feelings of others, I never felt like I really got to know Byakuya in a terribly sympathetic light. I guess he at least shows SOME concern for Naegi when Naegi is tossed into the garbage and eventually returns, and we get to see him actually shook by Enoshima's words in the last trial. But... that's the extent of it in DR1, I'd say.
The reason I find Togami more tolerable than those other characters is because of the other stuff he appears in. In the AUs of Ultimate Talent Development Plan and Danganronpa S, he's still crabby and arrogant but nevertheless manages to much less of a dick to people than Saionji or Kokichi are. And in Danganronpa Togami, he manages to lord himself over everyone he meets while still showing a surprising amount of care for poor Shinobu. For all the faults that series of light novels has, it at least helped his image in my eyes.
IMO his best showing is in Danganronpa 3. Without ever losing his trademark arrogance, he manages to make it clear that he's come to have affection for his fellow DR1 survivors and even thinks pretty highly of them now. Sure, he smack-talks Hagakure a little, but then he smiles fondly at him immediately afterwards. He gives such a pep talk to Naegi that both Makoto and Asahina feel the need to comment on how he's really changed his behavior.
In regard to your last few sentences, though, I don't know if I agree that he sincerely enjoyed the killing game. He certainly put on that front, and he may have really tried his best to embrace it once he could conceive of no way out, but I doubt he really was having a good time dancing to somebody's else tune. That's just not in his nature. And yet... I DO agree that he was fine with shrugging off the deaths of all these people around him, clearly. During the game, he talks a bit about what we'd come to know as "the Biggest, Worst Incident in the History of the Togami Family," and I think we're meant to infer that living through that experience taught him to harden himself to the suffering of anyone else and prioritize his own life above all other concerns. Whether that's understandable.... well, your mileage may vary.

Strange but True (2019)
Tumblr media
While I didn't enjoy this film, that doesn't mean you won't. No matter what I say, the people involved in this project did it: they actually made a movie. That's something to be applauded. With that established...
There are so many movies out there. You can understand why someone would latch onto a new idea or story. Here’s the thing. Sometimes, it isn’t that no one’s thought of your premise before; it’s that no one’s been stupid enough to push through with it. This is the case with 2019's Strange but True.
Still reeling from the death of her son five years ago, Charlene Chase (Amy Ryan) doesn't know what to think when his girlfriend, Melissa (Margaret Qualley), announces she’s 36 weeks pregnant with Ronnie's baby. Ronnie’s younger brother, Philip (Nick Robinson) starts wondering if maybe there isn’t some truth to the story.
The premise is so outlandish, your mind begins thinking of all the ways Melissa could've become pregnant. Aliens? some kind of demonic ritual? an elaborate ruse? Basically, anything but the most obvious and stupidest possibility: impregnated by a ghost. Normally, you’d be right along for the ride as Charlene begins investigating but she’s insufferable. You hate her right away and grief or not, you dislike her more with every scene. Her first assumption is that Melissa somehow got doctors to extract sperm from Ronnie (Connor Jessup), had them frozen and then impregnated herself years later for… reasons. I’ve heard of playing the long con but even the Count of Monte Cristo would’ve given up with this one. It makes no sense, even with Melissa's dubious mental state. You don’t subscribe to the idea of something paranormal either. Or maybe you will. The tense intro scene where Philip is desperately running away from someone - or something - tells you this movie’s all about the thrills.
But this movie is NOT about thrills or any kind of horror. Well, except when it is but for the most part, this is a much weepier film than you’d expect from the setup. Ronnie’s accidental death caused his parents to divorce. It obviously did a number on Melissa, who swears she’s never been with another man but him (oooooooh!). Philip had big dreams but without his big brother, he soon gave up on them. Even Gail (Blythe Danner) and Bill (Brian Cox), the kindly old couple who agree to harbor Melissa, spend much time confessing their sadness over never being able to conceive. All the flashbacks to the night of the accident should make your heart as heavy as theirs, but you don’t care. All you want to know is how dumb this movie’s mystery is going to get.
Tumblr media
If the rest of the film was poorly conceived, it’s got nothing on the conclusion. Melissa’s baby did not come from Ronnie’s ghost. She was drugged and raped by Bill. Luckily for him, she’s gullible enough to believe in a supernatural explanation. Eventually, his luck runs out, however. Gail discovers what happened and one thing leads to another until she dies. He tries to cover up his crimes by going kill-crazy but gives up and offs himself. The truth never comes out. Melissa and the Chase family warmly welcome the baby into their lives. There are some deeply sinister implications with that ending. What’s the moral of this movie supposed to be?
Tumblr media
Although Strange But True becomes hideously misguided towards the end, the performances are pretty good. Amy Ryan excels at being loathsome. I also must credit it for keeping the audience engaged all the way through. This makes it one of the worst films of 2019 but among the upper end of the bottom 10. (October 25, 2020)

ES(T) — Extraverted Sensation supported by Thinking
Excitability and pedantism to some extent. contradicts himself. Great self-possession and control. often either one trait dominates or another. Neatness, in childhood - provokes. becomes enraged. Shaking or tremors in body. At times obsessive ideas. As the personality matures, his psyche becomes more balanced. Impulsiveness in reactions, self-control at work and at home likes to control and have things. In society may seem a little slow: atraid to say something out of place. Leaves the house, loses self-control, acts recklessly; he does not fight with rationalization, rather, mythomania and insults. He doubts the intelligence of someone, he judges people and makes it clear: "You are stupid!". He treats everything as some kind of game, "haha checkmate I win!". He is aware of the logical structures of efficiency and decisions. They avoid complexity and dislike big discussions about topics they find too imaginative, "idealistic". He likes investments and money, he worries about his shape, his texture, his physicality. Always active. always doing something. They don't dwell in the clouds and don't dream lying on a sofa about things that could have been if ... These are people of realistic, concrete actions. They can be characterized as ambitious and purposeful people. These are born leaders and administrators capable of taking responsibility for making decisions on important matters. They appreciate logic and supporting argumentation. His activity levels often depend on his own state or mood. Despite this, if you turn to a representative of this type for help in a critical situation, he won't idly sit about and talk, or give you free advice, but instead he will try help you through concrete deeds. Inability to see future consequences of their harsh words and actions. Problems fall on him out of nowhere and all of a sudden, and grow like an avalanche. Not always capable of understanding the nuances of people's relations and is incapable of perceiving their inner core. He often does not know how people relate to him, what people think of him. He is actually blind to people's attitudes towards himself. He pushes through against other people's opinions and weaknesses, dislikes sadness and frustration, intolerant of inexistence. They are constantly accompanied by a restless activity, workaholism. Barbarous sadist, lacks complete empathy. He constantly categorizes people: "Weak", "Strong", "Dumb", "Idiot", "Smart, "Efficient" etc. He may live with a philosophy, a sense of justice and order. He protects his friends, tries to be likeable. Treats subordinates well and puts enemies into great pain, he likes humiliation and devotion. Able to inspire people. but not very conscious of this
"I learned a lot in my life, but I want to understand more, including what I understand is not right." Only when they are burnt out they might agree to take some time off at a resort or a hospital. People of this type should remember this, because people are not indestructible; they are not sources of endless energy. He is able to consider an oblect, a situation, an event from several points of view, he can explain any phenomenon in several different ways. This type picks out the laws that they follow automatically, without a hint of creativity. Dislikes long decision-making, more curious and "feeling-tone" than thinking. He quickly grasps the current situation and distribution of power, makes a fast decision and acts. He is capable of political maneuvering but never forgets his line. He possesses powerful understanding, but this kind of logic is determined and thus biased, its purpose isn't philosophical speculations but the creative search for the shortcut to finding a solution. It is easier for him to concede his logic than his goal. He seldom gives in to fear, hatred, and other negative emotions, rarely gets surprised and rarely envies. The more dangerous the situation, the more self-disciplined and resolute he becomes. He does not like to speak about feelings: if he gets sad, he distracts himself, he changes his mood. If he sees sad people, he instantaneously runs from them, he is afraid of sentiments and feeling-values. He may understand very well the struggles of someone, but he wouldn't like to focus on the emotional problems of someone. he answers like "Let's eat something! Plan big revolution!". No attention to sentimentality, but he can easily fall in love with someone, get obsessed, he likes to admire human relations and emotionality. He "collects" sentiments, feelings. He prefers music that has emotion, meaning. He can be very religious, "schizophrenic", oriented to spirituality and political ambients. For him, integrity of circumstances is subconsciously rejected. He detests situations when everything is known from beginning to end. Dislikes "fate", he wants to change the future, he likes something meaningful yet dynamic. "What do you mean I have to follow a schedule? What if I feel like working around the clock? Why are you putting me in the rigid frames of a schedule? I do not care about your office hours. If I feel like working, I will keep work". It is important to have clarity and definiteness on his romantic life; he states his love clearly, and wants to invade, corrupt someone, with his own love. Ideological, he expresses a certain ideology concerning politics and beliefs in the divine. Values profit over usefulness, spending, investments. risks. combinations. running in a new one. profit maximization.
Pattern of narcissistic behavior exemplified by boastfulness, excessive self-assurance, vanity, compulsive sexual behavior, exhibitionistic fetishes, admiration and desire to have subordinates, a divine or royalty "sensorial fantasy". Compulsive, addictive need to acquire and hoard money, resources and food. Orientation to efficiency for itself and investment, analysis and deconstruction of laws. Survival and conservation of the body and the social 'me'. Glory, honour, self-righteousness and protective-friendship nature. Some manifestations can behave calm, relaxed, comfortable and demonstrate intellectual superiority. He likes to make trades and exchanges of energy with the world; interested and inspired by games, music, art, aesthetics, power. Greedy yet kind. Sometimes worry or gets immersed in an alternative, finds double sense and weird meaning in phrases or events. Does not understand relationships well. He follows and sticks to explicit concepts that enable conducts not so social or normal. Always perceives the value and potential symbolical essence of something, such as life. Attention towards abilities and probable, possible routes for the future. May hold grudges and resentment against someone; if he fights and argues with his partner, he suddenly breaks everything apart. Then, months and maybe years would pass, the time of the relationship, the emotionality disperses. But if he find again the person he did fought with, he'll remember all the history and experience associated with the person - the sentiments return. Some manifestations are hypocritical, they point in others the problems and mistakes they have. Some versions make good argumentations, but they are negative and a little pessimistic, concerned with the argument's faults. Recognizes the strength of someone quickly. He exercises daily, likes to build energy. Weirdly limbic and full of libido. Able to devise plans and tactics, strategical. Counts things and orders them in some logical pattern. Sometimes he is alone, feels solitary, needs something to take and eat. Makes money using his skills, confidente, some manifestations are "cute" - they give money and gifts, they like to do acts of service. HnIovs insighttu conversation. calculated and tree in exnression. Spends time gambling or gaming. Some manifestations are cold and do not talk much. Likes to teach and educate people, he shares his opinion or conclusions and persuades people with them. flexible. Some manifestations have clear sense of justice, morals and ethics - they may not accept to do certain things, even if they are paid for it. Likes nudism. Erodere or Hiyakasudere, Yottadere. Some versions, Hajidere. Dorodere. Mayadere. "Kichidere" - may be dangerous and crazy but sweet and comforting

Anon, I wanna be sympathetic and respectful when I say this - and there is no really "nice" to say it - but here it goes:
When someone finds a fictional character boring, annoying, and poorly written then you don't get to police how they express their dislike for said character. It doesn't matter if that character had all kinds of traumas in existence. If the person was only mocking that character and how their trauma is written - not the actual trauma itself - then you have no right to bring real trauma victims into the conversation to silence that person.
I wasn't making fun of Toga's trauma responses. I was making fun of how poorly written she and her trauma was. I've mocked Shigaraki and called him "a man-child throwing epic tantrums" too, so stop trying to insinuate a hidden sexist motive on my part for using specific words that accurately describe the poorly written quality of the thing I dislike.
Stop trying to shame me into silence because you can't handle seeing a character you like being mocked for being poorly written.
If a FICTIONAL character with FICTIONAL trauma is poorly written, and if they bore or annoy the fuck out of me, then I'm more than allowed to mock them as much as I want. Your options are to: block me or deal with it. Policing me or trying to shame me into silence will never be an option for you, sorry not sorry.
And just to make things clearer: Enji is one of my favorite characters and I've constantly seen people viciously mock him and every single trauma response he had. I hated it but I never once thought about shaming these people for mocking a character I liked when they're sad or hurt. Because it's not my fucking business how others respond to fictional characters and their fictional trauma (especially when they're not realistic and can't say anything about real trauma victims). If they find Enji boring, annoying, or poorly written then they have the right to express it, and I can discuss it with them sometimes. But what I won't ever do? Is to use real trauma and real trauma victims and social justice lingo as a tactic to silence them and protect me from hurt feelings (it does hurt to see a character you like being mocked, I'll give you that). The only time I shamed these Enji haters was when they mocked Enji for showing realistically written trauma responses and when they started saying shit that could and would affect real-life trauma victims (like literally supporting toxic masculinity).
If you see me mocking Toga for showing realistically written trauma responses, then you can call me out on it. But when Hori writes her as a highly exaggerated, infantilized, fetishized, and romanticized version of a teenage sociopath then I'm gonna mock Hori's writing and call Toga a dumb, horribly selfish character throwing gross self-pitying tantrums.
I can understand the message Hori is aiming for, and even love it, and still criticize him for failing to deliver it. Imagine that!

May 25th 2023- a little bit better than i use to be-
so much so much so much- i really should write more. i read a news story today about kids being neglected and abused. why are people so horrible? those poor babies- it makes me sad. exactly why i don't watch the news. i had someone in work tell me "they " are shooting people on 95. Really? I had no idea. she looked at me in disgust and said you really need to be more informed. I don't need to hear and read about what a fucked up world we live in to know what a fucked up world we live in. Being informed makes me sad and scared- 2 things i am trying desperately not to be. Work is going good. it's so much nicer going to work as the boss-so much better. My boss- the Ice Queen, likes me. I can tell and i am grateful. We are going out shopping together for the company picnic. I'm in charge. HA. People dislike me for doing my job. A lot of people are incapable of taking responsibility for their actions. they blame me for doing MY job- the truth is- if they did their job- i wouldn't have to do mine. the Ice Queen is MOODY- I'm not sure if she is still drinking- she tends to hide in her office.
I should be getting my check-any day now. i asked MAds if she would mind moving out of our town. she's open to it-as long as we are safe and happy. i don't want to leave this town.. but i have to do what is best for me and if i cant find a place to live-- BUT i keep telling myself that SOMETHING wonderful is going to happen and the PERFECT place will be mine- i have to believe it. whats that saying- whats meant for me is mine- whats meant for me won't pass me by-
James went hard on me tonight. My knee pain is gone- i started taking a supplement- i use to take it and stopped and just started again and it works. i finally mentioned to james that during my cycle its harder to lift. Because it is- there is a huge difference. it wasnt weird to him. yeah its true- but we cant use that as an excuse- his words. tonight he upped everything-benched 105. i'm going to be sore tomorrow, i only squatted 175 this week. i need to get my ass into the gym and do my workout over the weekend. James shared a lot about himself tonight. he paid off his student loans, is getting a new car- not sure what kind- skipped a vacation with his buddies to Puerto rico because he lost 1200 on a bet- he even got out the dry erase marker and drew me pictures so i could understand what he was talking about. UFC and basketball- from what he said, and drew - it was just unbelievable how he lost the bets and he thinks its the universe telling him he shouldn't bet. he said it made him sick. he's a good person. i can tell. Kika was tired tonight- she didnt even bark when i walked up. she's such a good girl. we played a little.
my friend in work-the one who i think is on drugs and never talks about her husband. she told me her husband is dumb and useless. she's always saying she would be fine if she only had some xanax. dont say it dont say it. for months he same thing- i would be fine if i had xanax- dont fucking say it. if i had xanax i would be fine---- i know a dr. she use to see him, she called that afternoon and got herself an appointment. today she comes in and is talking so fast- too fast. i use the term friend loosely. this should be interesting- maybe she's right- maybe all she needs is xanax.
i spent all day last saturday watching porn and masturbating. i got myself a new vibrator - its dam near perfect. quiet -
im sure there is soooo much more to write about. i am tired. got my friday shift changed for the summer-every other friday im workiing 9-6. this will work out good- i can still run after work. the ice queen likes me-thank God- the right people like me-its more important i like myself-

While we’re kinda on the topic of pickle, can I just say that he has the sweetest laugh? Like in the letters dub (for a spilt sec) and in seas the day. It’s also kinda quiet, making it difficult to picture him laughing hysterically (not including the evil laugh he did in seas the day). God i’m so sorry I just love his laugh SDGSFGSDDGGFSGF
YOURE RIGHT HE DOES!!! GOD!!!!!!!!! i hope derek knows he has a really good voice!

Soo what if the MC was suicidal and depressed, so when the boys threaten then and stuff (like how lucifer was gonna kill them when protecting beel and luke) and they don't care or they ask them to do it no balls xD
I like this prompt bc they will be like fucking shocked if MC was not afraid of them. Anyways always remember to check on your mental health🖤♥
Brothers react to an MC who doesn't care about dying.
✒Lucifer
He was in complete shock. Every individual who he threatened was quick to apologize and surrender to his will but this human wasn't?
He dislikes that type of attitude but is also very curious about what happened to them to be this way.
When MC tried to climb up to the attic and he threatened them they just simply said "you know anything can kill me,right? You are not special for that one,Lucifer"
What the actual fuck is going on here?
He forced them to leave anyways but he was thinking about their response all night.
No one talked back to him besides Satan and Belphie and the first person out of his family talking back to him was human. A human! He was annoyed to say the least.
When the relationship between him and MC progressed he become more concerned about it.
He tried to get the truth out of them subtly and without acting suspicious or worried but when they finally said "Lucifer if you want to ask me something, do it. Don't try to get answers out of me that way,it won't work"
When they finally revealed that they were not worried about dead because it will get to them anyway,Lucifer was sad.
He was not only sad because he knew that MC was going to die but because they were not a little bit worried about it.
A sudden wave of sadness gets into Lucifer's chest and he proceeds to hug his lover and tells them that he will take them to therapy.
✒Mammon
He was very happy about MC not caring about dying at first since he couldn't care less and he never properly threatened them as well so they never got to talk back at him.
But once when they were escaping from two witches,MC got hurt and they didn't care at all. Like they literally didn't say shit about the wound on their leg and it took Mammon almost half an hour to realize that the blood he was smelling it was from their wound.
"MC WHY DIDN'T YOU SAY ANYTHING? ARE YOU DUMB? COME ONE,HUMAN! W-WHAT DO YOU MEAN WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO? I'M GOING TO HELP YOU,FUCK!"
Very stressed out about it,starts yelling about how they need to be careful with their lives because they are weaker than the average and things like it.
"Mammon I don't care about death,I'm kinda craving for it at this point"
His face drops. A sudden feeling he couldn't recognize was placing on him. He was worried but it was not the type he was used to feel around them.
The single thought of MC dying send shivers down his back. He was borried and it was not because Lucifer would kill him but because he couldn't stand that thought.
"Don't go saying things like that,MC... I don't want you to die,human"
He hugs them kinda afraid they might order him to let them die right there.
He is going to look for help and tell Lucifer about it so they both can keep an eye on MC in case of anything.
✒Levi
His first thought when he heard MC saying they wanted to die was "honestly same."
When he was about to kill them on the TSL quizz thing they didn't even flinch. They were not about to run, hide or beg.
When Lucifer stepped in,Levi was fucking shocked but angry at the same time.
"Damn normie, who do they think they are?"
When both of them formed a pact he became more worried about their health, not because they were his master but also his only friend and he was not about to loose them for some stupid shit.
When they hurt doing some stupid shit with him Levi freaks out and has a mini meltdown but tries his best to control his emotions to help his Henry.
"Stupid normie... Can't you be more careful? Dumb, dumb, dumb human... Agh"
He is mad but he is more worried than he is mad so he is trying his best to ask them how are they so stupid without being rude.
He became more careful with his words since he thought that maybe a little push will send them over the edge and make them commit suicide.
Very sharp when others point out that he takes care of them, gets defensive easily and will lock both of them in his room for a while.
✒Satan
He can not properly understand what's going on with them. His first thought is that they are very much dumb.
Gets annoyed by that attitude easily but never looses a chance to asks them if they are really that dumb or if they want to get killed.
"Oh sorry Satan, did my attitude happen to bother you?"
Ugh. The mocking tone in their voice made him furrow his eyebrows and spit venomous words.
"Indeed it does but I can easily understand why are you so reckless, you are defenseless against me and you are still trying to argue with me. I must say you have some guts MC but I don't think it's late for a good reminder that I can kill you easily."
And then they smirked and stepped closer to him with a daring attitude.
"Do it,anything can kill me and I will die eventually so your meaningless threats don't scare me not even a bit."
He was waiting for them to run,to hide and scream for help. But Satan was not expecting that answer.
His demon form unleashed and he was ready to attack but something inside of his his head told him that he was not capable of killing them. And when he realized that he just patted their head and went to his room.
Later on when they made the pact and MC helped him when coming to terms with Lucifer,he was quite scared for their daring attitude.
Every time they went out even if it was with one of his brothers,Satan will check on them with messages or calls every time he could.
To be honest,MC doesn't need this type of checks on them but appreciates it since Satan knows better than anyone how hard it can be to control themselves.
He still gets very pissed off when MC makes snarky comments, dares him for anything or that type of things but he still won't attack them because he loves them way more.
✒Asmo
He is no the type to threaten someone unless they are threatening him first but he was very tired of MC's attitude through the day and he snapped.
"Can't you remember your place,MC? Every single person around can kill you and you still seem to be as sassy as ever."
He was about to apologize with them about his words since he was not the type to talk to them like that but he was surprised when they talked back (again).
"Asmo if you haven't notice I truly don't mind getting killed here,it would be more interesting that dying in the Human Realm to be honest and also everyone is going to die and no one is going to remember me so fuck it."
That was worst. His eyes were very lost trying to figure out where did those words came from? What was going on?
"MC don't day that, please" he whispered very nervous.
Asmo hugged them and calmed himself down. Even for a demon who has seen a lot of people die he was not ready to loose MC and he was also not ready to hear those words fall from their mouth.
"Asmo calm down,please."
"You were joking, right? You don't think that about your life, don't you?"
He might not seem like it but he was completely worried for their health and well being. Being MC the only person he ever considered as a friend and possible lover,he could not stand for what they were saying.
He became more careful with what he said to them and what the others were allowed to say,if someone tried to insult them or make them feel like less he will snap right away of that meant MC will get rid of those awful thoughts.
✒Beelzebub
He threatened them about eating his food but they were unfazed about him,it was the first time he threatened them after making the pact and honestly, his reaction was totally wrong and he knew this and he was ready to apologize but he was shut down by MC's words.
"Do it,I honestly don't care."
What? MC what the hell are you saying?
He calms down and says that they shouldn't say things like that around his brothers because they might explode and actually kill them. He was worried, yes but he was more worried about eating something because his stomach was growling like crazy.
"Why would you say something like that? If it wasn't because we demons can't kill our master you will be dead now,MC."
Beel was stuffing chips into his mouth while watching MC think about an answer, more worried than before.
"I didn't mean to scare you,Beel. But I will die anyways so it's just a matter of time and if someone dared to make it right now I wouldn't stop them."
He feels the chills going through his back, the feeling of loosing someone he loves again was a lot to process and the fact that MC was unfazed and really sure about their words made him feel full suddenly.
"I don't want to loose you,MC. I know that you are a human and all but can't you just take care of yourself a little? I don't want to loose you." *sad beel noises*
Reassuring him that they will try to find help, MC hugs Beel and promises to try to stop this type of comments.
He was still very very worried about them so he was always around keeping an eye and ear on them so no one killed them.
✒Belphie.
This was after the attic events,he was still very unsure about MC's presence on his life but he was hanging on there still getting used to them.
Until they were assigned to wake him up from a 10 hour nap to eat something.
"You dumb human,I will rip your head apart of you wake me up again."
"It's not like if you haven't tried already now wake up and eat something or Lucifer will be pissed."
He was very amused, they were not afraid of him anymore and decided to talk back to him. But he still was shocked to say the least.
The human who he killed once was now giving him orders without a pact or relationship that established that he had to obey them. They had some guts, that was for sure.
When their relationship progressed and he became closer to MC,he was not going to stand for that type of comments.
"MC you can't go around saying that you want to die! It hurts to see you this way, jeez!"
"I can't help it,Belphie. Sometimes my thoughts just slip through my lips without me even trying."
Now that was something he was not expecting to hear. What did they mean? They really wanted to die that bad?
"Listen here you little shit,I already lost you once and I'm not going to loose you again so stop making those stupid comments or I will tell Lucifer to pay you a good therapist... Fucking idiot."
Belphie was worried even if he seems like he was just annoyed by them,he was even mkre worried than what he will like to admit.

I just saw the coldest take ever and I'm gonna go on a rant about it
"I don't understand what people ever saw in c! karlnapity. they got engaged and did nothing with it and expected us to feel sad when they broke it off"
ok. OKAY. let's break this down, huh?
1. "what did people ever see in c! karlnapity?"
what I saw in c karlnapity and what I STILL see, is three people all going through things but still finding the time to love each other and care for each other through it. I see three people who found each other at the right time. I see HEALTHY PORTRAYAL OF A POLYAMROUS RELATIONSHIP IN MEDIA. LET ALONE A GAY POLY RELATIONSHIP.
2. "they got engaged and did nothing with it..."
c karl and c sapnap fell in love from day 1 , they almost immediately got engaged because of how infatuated they were with each other. built a honeymoon spot, did everything together. they followed each other through thick and thin. then comes in c quackity. he found karl and fell for him quick. he remarked multiple times how he was upset that karl and sapnap were getting married, even directly said once to tommy and tubbo, "I wanna go to war with karl for marrying sapnap". he was jealous. then comes the day they all decide to get engaged. c sapnap becomes upset because c karl is flirting with c quackity, and c karlnap are already engaged at this time. well, they have a little argument, and c quackity and c sapnap decide to get "revenge" on c karl by being with each other. they both realise "hey we still really love karl though :(" and that's when the discussion of a poly relationship happens. they agree, and they talk about inviting people to the wedding. they spend the rest of the night hanging out with each other, now newly engaged.
and what this particular person seems to think is that it stops there BUT IT DOESNT! IT REALLY DOESN'T! don't forget they go on to create mexican lmanberg/el rapids together as partners (during this time every stream they would have cute little moments) , sapnap protecting quackity during doomsday (quackity calling out "sapnap hold me!"), karl protecting quackity from the egg by giving him warnings, c karlnap + c george planning to invite c quackity to kinoko, c quackity making FUCKING CASINOS for them, c quackity making another eiffel tower like karlnaps honeymoon spot, quackity making a place for weddings and when touring people that section of las Nevada's saying "for if you want to get married to any significant others" PLURAL. BECAUSE HE'S THINKING OF TWO PEOPLE. PERSONAL ANTICDOTES, and much much more that I could go on about.
3. "and expected us to feel sad when they broke it off."
read above, they did not do nothing with it, there was plenty of reason to feel sad with all they had been through together.
AND ALSO. THEY HAVE NEVER OFFICIALLY BROKEN IT OFF!!!! NOT ONCE HAVE THEY EVER SAID THAT!!!!!! ARE WE IGNORING THAT C QUACKITY DIDN'T TELL THEM WHERE HE WAS GOING? ARE WE IGNORING THAT C GEORGE IS THE ONLY ONE THAT KNOWS AND HE HASN'T EVEN TOLD C KARLNAP? ARE WE FORGETTING THAT C KARL WAS GONNA TELL HIM ABOUT KINOKO BUT MEMORY ISSUES AND NOT KNOWING WHERE HE'S AT GOT IN THE WAY? ARE WE FORGETTING C SAPNAP IS CURRENTLY LOOKING FOR C QUACKITY? THEY ARE LITERALLY JUST HAVING COMMUNICATION ISSUES.
you can dislike them all you want but don't say shit like this because it makes you sound dumb as fuck. smiley face.
also, stop posting c! karlnapity neg and using the karlnapity tag. I don't want to see that shit. thank u 4 ur time everyone : )
