I need these men to talk. I need Stede to take his own advice and not fucking bottle it up. There are so many insecurities and misconceptions between them and they need to start at the beginning, they need to talk about why Stede left (and why he came back)!
Both Mary and Ed referred to him returning home as a whim and i think that's unfair. 'Whim' implies a certain amount of carelessness and shallowness, which I feel doesn't apply to what happened. Stede had been feeling immense amounts of guilt about abandoning his family the entire season (which he didn't talk about or try to work through at all), then he caused the death of another person after being told he ruins everything he touches, then he walked all the way back to his house and it was clear he wasn't all there. He didn't just wake up that night and decide 'you know what? I'm not interested in Ed anymore and I'd rather go back to my wealth and nice things and pretty wife.' Like yeah, it wasn't planned, but I don't think it's fair to call psychological trauma a whim.
And Ed needs to know this! Have they talked about this at all? Does he know anything about what Stede went through that night? Does he know that Stede and Mary were so happy separated but so miserable together that she tried to murder him? That it was after Mary helped him realize how much he loved Ed and how much happier he was that he decided to leave? That he renounced his title, his land, his money, faked his own death, burned any bridges back to his old life to find Ed again? That he gave up everything he had not for piracy or the crew, but for Ed?!
If they would just fucking talk to each other about the actual important shit, how they both feel like they've ruined each other and aren't good enough for each other and like the other loves a version themselves that they don't want to be. I loved the kiss scene in ep 5 and the 'let's take it slow' not because I felt like that in itself was the paragon of communication, but because it implied further communication. It implied they would have the big conversations, but they're both trying to move past everything because they're too scared to be emotionally vulnerable about their insecurities with each other.
Initially I thought it was good they were staying together while working stuff out, but now I feel like maybe a couple weeks apart would be really good for them and give them time to think about what needs to happen and what needs to be shared for this relationship to move forward. Also, Ed's been through a lot of shit the past week, maybe some actual alone time would really do him good.
Best case scenario for me at this point is the season ends with Ed and Stede sitting together after all the action and Ed holds his hand and says "Stede, I love you and want to be with you, but I think we need to talk about our shit first." And Stede squeezes his hand and says, "I think you might be right." And then the camera pans away from them with a slightly open but hopeful ending.

I’m having a meltdown. When I was 9 years old I read an article in a magazine called Backyard Adventures about how this antelope, the saiga, was on the verge of extinction. I enlisted the help of my best friend and launched a fundraising campaign called Save the Saigas. We sold lemonade, had bake sales, sold belongings, yelled at strangers as they passed in their cars. Our parents were able to match the money we made. Our school helped. It wasn’t much, it didn’t save them, but it helped the organization at least a little bit.
Y’all. The saigas have been saved. A little piece of my passionate child heart that has seemed hopelessly lost and endlessly disappointed for a long time feels so soothed. Maybe it’s not all hopeless. Maybe our efforts aren’t a complete waste. Maybe we keep trying and actually hope for the best.

Sometimes I think the reason they scrapped the original hotel Transylvania dracula design was because they knew that if we got that on the big screen you guys wouldn’t be able to handle yourselves.

ICJ Ruling
Okay, let's get into this.
First of all, I get the frustration at the court not ordering a ceasefire. I was disappointed and frustrated at first too, since a ceasefire was the biggest and most important preliminary measure South Africa was requesting - and of course we just all want this horror to finally end for the people in Gaza. So I get the frustration and disappointment, I really do.
However, I do think this ruling is still a major win for South Africa, Palestine, and international law as a whole and here's why:
The court acknowledged that it has jurisdiction over this case and completely dismissed Israel's request to throw out the case as a whole. It will now determine at the merits stage (that will probably take years) whether Israel is actually commiting genocide.
The court acknowledged that Palestinians are a "distinct national or ethnic group and therefore deserving of protection under the genocide convention". Pull this out next time someone tells you "there's no such thing as Palestinians, they're all just Arabs".
The court acknowledged very unambiguously that "at least some" of Israel's actions being genocidal in nature is "plausible". South Africa has a case, officially. Israel is accused of genocide, in a way the ICJ deems "plausible", officially. This is huge. (And seriously, how freaking satisfying was it to hear all of those genocidal statements by Israeli politicians read out loud and used as justification for this rulling?)
The court might not have ordered a "ceasefire" in those words, but they did order Israel to "immediately end all genocidal acts" (which includes killing and injuring Palestinians) and submit proof that they actually did. How are they going to comply with this ruling without at least severly reducing or changing what they're doing in Gaza?
In fact, this wording might actually be more appropriate for a genocide (vs a war), as author and journalist Ali Abunimah notes on Twitter:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He's completely right. Israel lost today, by overwhelming majority (I mean, 15 to 2? I heard people predict the rulings would be very close, like 9 judges vs 8, but instead we got 15 to 2 (and even 16 to 1 on the humanitarian aid). Holy shit.) The court disimissed almost everything Israel's side of lawyers said, while acknowledging that South Africa's accusations are "plausible".
And this is important especially because of Mr Abunimah's second tweet there^. Because the question is, where do we go from here?
This ruling means that Israel is officially /possibly/ commiting genocide and that should have huge international consequences. The rest of the world now HAS to take these accusations seriously and stop arming and supporting Israel - and if they won't do it on their own, we, the people, have to make them. This is THE moment to rise up all around the world, especially in the countries most supportive of Israel (the US, the UK, Germany): Protest, call your representatives and demand a ceasefire and an end of arms deliveries to Israel.
We now have a legal case to back our demands: If Israel is, according to the ICJ, "plausibly" commiting genocide, then all of our governments are, according to the ICJ, "plausibly" guiltly of aiding in genocide. And we need to hold that over their heads and demand better. We need to do that right now and in huge numbers. Most politicians only care about themselves and saving their skin. We have to make them realize that they could be accused of aiding in genocide.
(As a German, I'm thinking of Germany here in particular: After South Africa's hearing, our government dismissed their case as having "no basis" - how are they going to keep saying that now that the ICJ officially thinks otherwise? Over the last months, people here have been arrested at protests for calling what's happening in Gaza a genocide. How are the police supposed to legally keep doing that now that the ICJ has officially deemed this accusation "plausible"? I used to be scared to use the word "genocide" at protests or write it on my protest signs - not anymore, have fun trying to arrest me for that when the ICJ literally has my back on this one 🖕🏻.)
So yeah - don't be defeatist about this, don't let Israel's narrative that they "won" (they didn't) take over. This might not be everything we wanted, but it's still a good result. Don't let what the court didn't say ("ceasefire"), distract you from the very important things that they did say. Let this be your motivation to get loud and active, especially if you live in any country that supports Israel. Put pressure on your governments to not be complicit in genocide, you now officially have the highest international court on your side.

the thing about "callout/cancel culture" that convinced me it's rotten to the core is the dehumanisation you face once you become the subject of a campaign like that. a lot of criticisms of callout/cancellation attempts appeal to the humanity of the subject, pointing out that it's unfair and unproductive to treat a person, a fellow human being, regardless of how much harm they've caused and how genuinely unlikable they are, like that. but unfortunately the reality of being the target of a mob mentality often means facing the very isolating and traumatising experience of realising that you've ceased to exist as a person in their eyes. you're a representation of your transgressions, an embodiment of harm that needs to be erased like a blemish, a spectacle for entertainment, a means of earning social approval by publicly condemning and humiliating you in what quickly becomes a competition to see who can strike the blow that knocks you down so you never get up again. nobody cares about who you are outside of what you did. people make mistakes and hurt one another, but there is always the capacity for change, for regret and reparations. you are an irredeemable monster. you can't change. the only way to make sure you can't cause harm ever again is to neutralise you entirely. to drive you off and hurt you so badly that you never consider coming back. and it often succeeds. but it doesn't make the world a better or safer place. it just tells everyone that certain behaviours will be punished, so you should conceal them, and harshly condemn them in others so that everyone knows where you stand; nobody will stand up for you if you're accused and brought out for judgement, so you shouldn't trust anyone, and always be on the lookout to take them down before they can do the same to you. you're not creating a safe, welcoming community. you're creating a panopticon built on fear and punishment.

How to turn off AI Training of your content on Web and Mobile:
On a Web Browser:
Tumblr media
I had some trouble finding this option. My first instinct was to click the settings button on the left, but that's where it is!
First, you'll click the name of your blog on the left sidebar to bring it up on your browser.
Tumblr media
Then click "Blog settings" on the right sidebar once your blog is brought up. That's where they're hiding it.
Tumblr media
Click "Prevent Third-Party Sharing" under the Visibility section, and bam! You're done.
On Mobile:
Tumblr media
Thankfully it's much easier on mobile. Just click the Gear icon on your blog's page, to go to settings.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Scroll all the way down until you see Visibility, then toggle the Prevent third-party sharing option for your blog!!
If you disable this setting on mobile, it automatically synced it to my web browser settings, too. ...But if you use both Web and Mobile, I would still highly recommend double checking that it actually turned off on both!!
Check that it's turned off on your side blogs too! And check your settings every now and then anyway to ensure that it's staying turned off, because if my memory serves right, some other websites will pull some shenanigans on things like this and opt you back in without telling you!
Leave Feedback on New Features at Tumblr Support Here!! Let Staff know however we can that having our content fed to AI at their whim is unacceptable.
And if you have the option to poison your art with Nightshade or Glaze, keep it up!!

I had a colleague come into my office the other day and go, "hey, do you have a second, I have a...dark...picture."
And immediately, my first reaction was holy crap in the context of this office something "dark" has got to be the most morally reprehensible crap I've ever seen, we see murder and assault of all kinds on a regular basis, what on EARTH qualifies as "dark" in this context--
and he showed me the picture, and it was--
--solid black.
I adjusted the brightness for him.

Echidna essentially saying “You killed my children, now they’re going to kill you” is so wild because the trio’s response is like “bitch we’re ALSO children????” meanwhile, Athena immediately went “NOT IF I KILL THEM FIRST” and that’s so fucked up but also so funny
