Crap I deleted the wrong Post😅😅😢😭😢😭😭😢😭

I hate when I do this. I was going between phone and computer spending this time trying to fix something

(Any hints in clip studio paint by the way as to if you paste and image just make it automatically fit the canvas instead of dragging it... just curious cause honestly I spent to long trying to research it on my phone when I meant to fix this one thing)....

Well apparently I'm a duffus... 😅🤣😂Lol I mean it in good humor not putting myself down.

So I meant to delete the image off here not on my S.t.r.y. pAge... Ugh this is so annoying....

Can't believe I guess when I swore I changed I accidentally on my profile had clicked my S.T.R.Y. profile. Hence why this mess started....

So sorry to anyone who did like it, you may see it again later or tomorrow. I was trying to fit it into the suggested post times. Now that has sorely gone out the window since I goofed up instead of deleting the copy I deleted the original.🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

You see, I'm just getting into digital art, and my PC can only handle about 5 or 6 layers before my graphics environment crashes. (Ofc this forces me to restart my PC and lose anything not saved.)

I've learned to work around this, my art isn't nearly so complex as yours, but I know if I want to continue I'll have to get a better computer at some point.

I was hoping you could tell me a bit about the technical side of your work. What are your PC specs? What software do you use? That sort of thing.

My set-up is complete overkill for art. It's a heavy gaming-ready desktop PC I got a few years back that I've upgraded the RAM and storage on over the years. I was doing fine with 16GB of RAM but I always have open a lot in CSP and other stuff so upgrading was definitely something I needed to do. 16GB should be fine for most people though.

You can also see that I run Arch Linux and uh yeahhhhhh it's a long story. The short of it is that my old laptop broke its Windows install during an update and I was completely unable to fix it so I just.... switched to Linux lol. I started out on Ubuntu and switched to Arch after a while. I don't rec using Arch unless you know what you're doing, Ubuntu is way easier.

What you might find more interesting is my away from home set up on my laptop since it's an older gaming laptop.

The graphics card is actually a NVIDIA Geforce 850 or something. It's so old that you can't play some games on it. However, I have no issues with it for art. I can open my comic project files in CSP fine on it. It's also running on Linux Mint, which isn't showing up on the little image for some reason. Both of my devices run Linux, but that's a me preference/need thing and I don't rec messing with your operating system if you don't know much about computers. It gives me a bit of an edge since the system doesn't use as much RAM as Windows but yeah don't touch unless you're committed to learn. Windows will serve you fine. Or MacOS even.

As for my program, I use Clip Studio Paint EX. I bought Pro a long time ago and upgraded to EX because of the extra tools for comics and animation (I've heard animators don't like CSP though, it's the BEST program for comics however). It's a really solid program but the recent changes to pricing and updates is really stupid. Fun fact: I use only default brushes and materials because getting it to run on Linux breaks the store. I also use an older version of it because of how I got it working on this system.

For my tablet I use an XP-Pen Artist 12 Pro. It's a pretty solid screen tablet on a budget (I bought it on a sale) and I have no issues with it. I actually partly got it because I thought it was cool that XP-Pen carries official drivers for Linux too, and this helped a bit since this was before Windows bricked on me and I switched to that. It was kinda weird how it played out lol. I would heavily not rec a Wacom tablet unless it's an older one for cheap. Wacom is stupidly expensive and you can get a better bang for your buck at other companies. My first tablet is a Wacom and it's still holding up pretty well but their quality on their new tablets isn't great. Check out XP-Pen, Gaomon, and Huion for better tablet options.

I'd just like to say that I love your art! The colors that you use for some of the artworks, the way the lineart looks... all of it! I have a few questions to ask you about it though. 1, what app do you use for art? 2, what brush? The type of brush that you use for lineart gives it some sort of vibe and I'm here for it! Also sorry if this sounds a little awkward, I don't usually send things lol.

For apps, I use Clip Studio Paint

I change up my brushes a lot from time to time bc I get bored of how they feel, so idk how long I'll last w these. Regardless, i use the Artemus pencils!

it feels so cool.... and it's got tilt pressure where it gets bigger when you tilt it and gAH so good.

i dont know if you also wanted to know what i use for coloring.. but i'll answer anyway. for now i'm using these two, the rinotuna line/sketch brush and flashito!

the rinotuna one is my main one, but i sometimes go in and paint stuff with the flashito. i also use a standard air brush tool but i mess around with the hardness to get what i want. i draw, add a noise filter, RGB reverb, and you get my art!

1. Art programs you have but don't use? I don’t think I have one! I’ve been playing on Photoshop for so long, though I’m thinking on getting Clip Paint Studio for comics at one point!

2. Is it easier to draw someone facing left or right (or forward even)? Mmmm, often find I draw folks looking to the left, but wouldn’t say I prefer one way or the other, especially when I’m flipping the canvas at least three times to make sure they’re all even!

3. What ideas come from when you were little? Mmm, lots of fantasy things, I have this old story about the green man that I made when I was 16 and it’s been rolling and remade ever since! It really needs another go other, it was my first dip into anything non cisgender before I knew, y’know?

4. Fav character/subject that's a bitch to draw? Mmm, probably cars. Hate drawing cars, so annoying.

5. Estimate of how much of your art you post online vs. the art you keep for yourself? Ohhh, probably, 80%, but that’s what happens when you’re chronically online like me lol

10. Favorite piece of clothing to draw? Mmm, love a big floofy skirt or shirt, all those folds, very hard but so satisfying when I get rolling

12. Easiest part of body to draw? Mmm, eyes n’ mouth? I wanted to get good at them ever since I was a kid, cause they’re the expressive bits! I want to get better at Hands, the gay part of the body.

13. A creator who you admire but whose work isn't your thing? I honestly can’t think of any? I guess I try n see the good in any art, even if it’s not my vibe; the colours, the lines… There’s always something

15. *Where* do you draw (don't drop your ip address this just means do you doodle at a park or smth)? At home! I try and keep Digital art to my desk, but If I’m doing ink art for fun, it’s on my bedroom floor, praying that I don’t mess the carpet

20. Something everyone else finds hard to draw but you enjoy? Mmmmmm, mouths and hair?

21. Art styles nothing like your own but you like anyways? Ohhh, mmm, lineless art! the amount of effort that goes into it, love it!

I don't have a proper PC to play Valorant lmao but the cinematics are so cool! I'm currently obsessing over Fade rn lol. She's and her powers are so cool! and I'm obsessed with her design and her art style.

I wanted to try and imitate the art style used in the cinematic, while also messing around with gradient maps again. It ended up a lot warmer in colour compared to the video and I'm not sure if I did justice to the character but I really like how it turned out.

He's very cold and smells like metal when you're up close.

Probs cause he works down with machinery. Down there would be cold...

Also he lives with his dad. Greeaaaaaaat.

Living with someone who's dominating and possibly a serial killer.

Uh. Funny wording from you Michael about "Replacing body parts" and seems a bit germophobic in the way he talks about Mike's injury.

Sure that has no significance at all.

Mike doesn't seem all that concerned saying the disturbing line given all we know about him "It's not my first bad injury"

Also Michael buddy, personal space.

Oh.

So that's what his hair looks like when it's brushed. X'D

Details details:

Why does he have two toothbrushes in his bathroom?

Does he use the mint toothpaste or the bubble gum one...

Clearly two distinct individuals live here...whoever uses the bubble gum one is implied to be more childish.

Mike LIVES with someone...

Yes. You can gather all that from the background detail of toothpaste. That's the whole reason it's there. :)

Anyway about what Mike actually SAYS:

He finds Michael overbearing. Oof.

He CONFORMS his hair is dyed, it needs to be cut and considers dying his eyebrows.

In the ream of symbolism: Mike dying his hair implies he's covering something up.

In the realm of just normal shit: He doesn't like his natural hair color for whatever reason.

His choice of grey specifically could be dug into: as it's symbolism is mostly uniformity, blandness, and gloom.

But mainly I chose his hair color to be grey because you don't see a lot of young characters with grey hair. You see white haired characters (Ethan Winters in this series being an example of a white haired character) but not grey.

Mike embraces a hair color that makes him look older.

Also note: Mike doesn't brush his hair normally. It's a mess. Mike doesn't like his current haircut either.

Changing your hair is usually a sign of control, so the fact Mike seems to dislike so much about his hair is a sign he doesn't have much control in his life.

Few things: This person is very concerned with their looks.

Their design of having a beauty mark is there because I have one lol not that big tho.

He previously worked nightshift...Oh my.

A "Kid" apparently. Though the eyeline seems to be at his...Tall kid.

Something to note:

So far we've seen 4 security guards/night guards.

Jeremy: Blue shirt, blue bowtie

Michael: Purple shirt and black tie

This mysterious person: Purple shirt and black tie.

Bet there's no significance to their outfits at all...

Just keep him in your back pocket for now.

Why would Cody be talking to this person? He pulls out a device and "Should do something about that"

He's clearly someone who has authority of SOME kind to fix problems.

We don't get to hear what Cody/Fredbear says about the matter, but whatever it is this person's "That's awful" leads us to think something BAD is happening....

Weird.

Back to fire alpaca pages gotcha.

That previous scene was added later lmao gives context to smth later.

Anyways:

Mike's outfit:

He's wearing a pale cyan Freddy jacket. The fact he owns Freddy's merch is very amusing. He clearly has a history with the place so him owning merch makes sense.

Funny enough despite Bonnie being Mike's favorite animatronic, twice now Mike is being associated with Freddy. It's the animatronic Cody picked to turn him into, and now he's wearing a Freddy jacket.

Those who know the game over sequence for FNAF 1 would know: Mike Schmidt is stuffed inside of a Freddy Fazbear suit. So these COULD just be cheeky nods to that. ;)

Why DOES Mike own Freddy merch despite Bonnie being his favorite?

He's mostly going just for Bonnie which is funny. He's also curious if "Evidence" is around.

Michael Jumpscare number, like what 3? X'D

He's very excitable and wearing a cute purple turtle neck.

Mr. Afton's not home, neat.

This house's inside coloring is based on the FNAF 4 minigame house. Because I make the rules lmao.

Mike wears cute pink heart socks and I just like that he's cute like that.

There are STAINS on the floor, specifically blood stains. They've "Always been there" according to Michael. Suspicious.

These stains origins are shown off in the SL comic but I won't spoil who they are from for people who are reading this first.

Mike is very offput by this.

They head to Michael's room.

Michael's room is based on the room we play in FNAF 4. Because I find that interesting.

This isn't mentioned here or anywhere really but shit you can infere if you read FNAF 4 and SL comics: Michael owns Cody's stuffed animals now, but Josh's old room is Michael's current room.

So Michael got a lot of things from his dead siblings it seems.

His "Friends" are creepy as sin.

Michael's expecting questions cause of what Bonnie said.

Michael asks Mike about his own father, which prompts Mike to be uncomfortable to say the least.

He hasn't spoken to his father in a long time.

Michael's brain seems to break from this idea and he comes off as super rude but he's just shocked.

Haha. Mrs. Afton is an interesting subject.

Again where she is is addressed in the Sister Location and FNAF 4 comic but for now, it's left to what Micheal says.

He doesn't remember her at all or a LOT of things. Because our boy had a terrible accident and he took awhile to recover from it and he has memory issues from before he got into said accident.

Mr. Afton's parting wasn't nice to say the least considering William is "Mad at her" and he refuses to talk about her.

Mike monologues to himself, coming to the realization Mrs. Afton might be dead.

And Michael's accident might have been from Freddy's.

Would make sense.

And we get a fun Alice in Wonderland reference with the Spring Bonnie animatronic.

It's design was inspired by the "Into the pit" Fazbear's fright books.

Hah. Micheal might not be as innocent as he lets on, note how he is now cuddling a Golden Freddy plushie.

And he resigns to his life is better without his mother and Mike is better off without his father.

Despite being a grown up, Michael's view on the world and his situation seem rather, childish. Which would make sense considering he lost a lot of his memories. It also makes his living situation, living with his father still make more sense. William is very protective over Michael.

Mike's reluctant to join the Freddy's family.

Buddy you dunno how deep in you're gonna get at some point lmfao.

Michael also did an oopsie slip up there if you notice:

"Let's forget about our crap parents"

...Michael.

Parents there is plural.

As in. He thinks William is crap too despite what he just said lmfao.

You might be starting to realize: Michael is masking a whole lot.

What he says/does does not reflect the real Michael Afton. He only seems to let his façade drop and talk honestly around Ennard and Bonnie so far. He's still pretending in front of Mike keeping a cheerful attitude.

And they have a totally relevant talk about ice cream.

If you know FNAF lore you know why "ice cream" is a disturbing topic but again this is smth for Sister Location.

Michael "Can't taste a difference" between frozen and fresh pizza.

Absolutely no symbolism in that line at all.

You can really take this however you want but small lines like this are kinda "Oh I get it" lines later. XD

Michael can't tell when he's being "Deceived", Michael will go with a widely accepted "Crappy" version of something because he just can't tell the difference.

A wider concept of disceptation/imitations being overlooked.

Or you can take William's preference as the odd one here.

William prefers something that in truth has no significant or quantifiable difference.

He enjoys the heir of something "better" when in truth there is no real difference and Michael appreciates things just because they're there.

Or it's just a comment about how Michael literally cannot taste things...

Michael stop flirting.

Also FNAF fans yes the allusions to another character is strong with Michael and that is 100% intentional. If you get it you get it.

He pretends. He knows how to make ice cream. He puts on an air of wanting to help fsr is very comforting when he talks hiding his true nature.

Again Sister Location.

This is another clip studio one I know for sure cause of the asset text bubbles I used for awhile.

Anyways:

Mike and Michael are watching TV.

Sister Location Michael Afton go brrrr wonder if they're watching immortal and restless X'D-

Ironic how Michael is cuddling the plush of an animatronic his brother got his head crushed by/is trapped inside. This is the second time he's doing it but he actually switched plushies as the one he was hugging earlier was a bit more scuffed looking. This one is obviously meant to be Fredbear from the purple hat while the one he was hugging earlier had a black hat and a contorted face.

Mike is obviously hugging a Bonnie plush. it's coloration is off from the Bonnie plushies we've seen earlier so we can think this thing is either a prototype or perhaps another location's Bonnie.

Either way: Despite Michael being childish he's willing to share his plushies with Mike and let Mike hold his Bonnie plush. He wasn't lying when he said he'd try to make Mike feel welcomed.

Jeremy refuses to come to the house because William's off putting. Jeremy's a rather skittish person so that makes sense. Though again we get another instance to Michael and Jeremy Fitzgerald being pretty good friends.

And speak of the devil and he shall appear! :D It's Willy Billy Afton.

William drives Michael mad.

What do you mean by "Those friends" William.

"That was one time"

and "Jeremy is from work too"

The implication is Jeremy and Michael had relations and William saw it lmfao because I find that hilarious.

So smth to note here:

The characters Fritz Smith and Sammy Emily are names used for one character inter-changeably.

This AU swapped his name around and this page refers to him as "Fritz" but past a certain point it's almost exclusively Sammy.

Anyways:

What THINGS did Sammy/Fritz tell William exactly?

Michael seems annoyed by William's presence even calling William a "Creepy old man" and to "Leave Mike alone"

William acts over dramatic about this.

Michael continues to be a menace to his aged father.

And William asks a question that confuses the crap out of Michael.

Mike's mom is nuts too, supposedly.

Mike's gonna stay the night though.

So, they're playing games together.

And Michael is "Not good at games".

Makes sense why Bonnie's the one who does the claw machine not him hah.

We know Mike likes to play video games...so it can be inferred his annoyance here is because he's actually good at them. X'D

Evidently: Michael is not a fan of "The other owner's son"

Conforming there's another owner outside of William.

Presumably Henry.

We hit 180 so gotta pick this up again.

GUYS! I've been messing around with Clip Studio Paint today since I'm working on Commissions again, YAY!

And I was able to play with a 3D model! This is SOOO helpful! I seriously needed this program growing up and I didn't know about it then. Or maybe I did, just couldn't afford it.

Check out how close I came to reflecting Misty's pose! Of course, the model truly has the correct posture but surely I will get better knowing this program allows such opportunities!

for the digital art advice- i use ibispaint for mobile and medibang paint for desktop! both are free. other free programs i’ve heard ppl using are krita and firealpaca, but i haven’t used them myself. i also just fuck around in mspaint sometimes lol. for paid programs i know of clip studio paint and photoshop (obv) and i know a lot of ppl use procreate for mobile/tablet, but once again never tried those. for canvas size i don’t really know? i usually go with 1000 1500 or 2000 px and switch those numbers around for width and height depending on what kinda rectangle i want and then crop from there after i sketch, but also that’s just a number i made up when i started drawing and you can mess around w bigger or smaller and see how it feels/looks. idk how much advice i can give in terms of like actual technique, im not the best at painting myself (cartoons/semi realism ftw) but there’s prob like thousands of tutorials for any given program on youtube. also as a last thing there’s no wrong way to do art just fuck around and find out that’s like a good 80% of how i learned lmao

got my income for the month the other day and after 6+ months of not being able to make digital art the way i'm used to with my specific accessibility needs because of physical health symptoms with my hands, i was finally able to buy myself a new Paint Tool Sai license today, since a little while back i successfully installed an optional Windows 10 operating system on my Macbook (Sai doesn't run on Mac, at least not Version 1 which is what i need and have been using for over a decade) that i can switch back and forth between whenever and i am so so so so happy and relieved about it and so fucking excited to get to draw digital lines the way im used to drawing them after trying so many other similar programs and failing to find anything that worked exactly the same as Sai's basic built-in pen stabilizer 😭😭😭😭😭😭

i was able to quickly test out my (also ancient lol) art tablet with it and make sure everything works and it doesnt lag or anything like that and its perfect its exactly like i've always used it, i remembered which pen stabilization number setting i've been using for years and like.

dude. i know i sound dramatic right now LMAO but i CANNOT sketch or draw properly on traditional paper or sketchpads anywhere near what i can do in Sai because of all my tremors and shakiness and sudden muscle movements that make accidental lines and all that. and when i drew just one regular brush stroke in Sai and felt it move like im used to and got that super smooth sensation of 'pretty much just drawing like im holding a pencil/pen but with the shakiness of my lines improved'....almost cried a lil not gonna lie fjsgdgsgdhsgshf its been so many months and i've put so much mental energy into researching how to do that whole windows installation on my 2012 era macbook and somehow did that without completely messing it up and then having to wait until a month where i have enough extra money to buy the official version (Sai is so important 2 me and the most accessible digital art program i've ever used for my specific hand problems and i've used it for so long that i am only comfortable using the officially licensed version of it, yknow?) and also theres just something so nice about finally being able to use it again a few days before my birthday even though that timing wasn't on purpose...

AHHHHH im just so relieved. i feel like im free to just be able to make sketch pages and draw stuff whenever i have free time to and i have an idea in my head again and i havent felt that in so long and it was making my depression so much worse....and also because i've been doing my best to adapt to the similar but different settings in Clip Studio Paint, i have 2 really nice digital art programs with a lot of cool and useful features between the both of them now that i can use to like, mix and match with my art!! which is awesome!! i think Clip will mostly be used by me now for more graphic design type projects since Sai's always been my core art program, but i'd love to experiment with drawing/sketching/painting pieces in Sai and then plopping them into Clip and adding some extra fun effects or background elements or even just easier to repeat patterns with its' huge free-to-use resource library for like stamps and texture effects and more photoshop-y things like that.

ANYWAYS!! im just rambling to myself because im so happy and relieved to have My Art Program back so i thought i would share since its rare for me to feel as happy and excited and get some sense of normalcy back in any capacity these days, being immunocompromised and stuck in my house as long as i have been the past 3 years and counting. it has been a good amount of time since i've felt like i have A Victory To Celebrate and i hope that feeling lingers as long as it can 🥹✌️

I wanted to try doing an animation for the first time ever in ma life mainly to just see how it even works is Clip Studio Paint, so I just tried something super simple and chose №1 Papa Bear as my victim so here have a cute ear wiggle 🐻

I did mess up the direction of the small hat movement, for some reason ma brain remembered that it's supposed to go the opposite direction from the head for the earring, but not the hat, so just pretend that it's right since it's too much a bother to fix it xD

And yes I do know it's a very smol canvas, I just didn't feel like working on a big one for once xd Also Tumblr making it grainy lol thanks

Aw thank uu <3 I will now break down the entire process under this read more. Probably badly but maybe you can follow the pictures well enough lol

The effects I used require you to have clip studio paint, and some knowledge of how to use auto actions(but probably only basic knowledge cause I don't even really know how to use them myself akdhfjhf)

first I made a quick sketch, then blocked out the entire man in skin tone, and then added the color details on top with a clipping layer

then I took that drawing, cleaned it up a bit more, and merged all the visible layers(minus the background layer) so I was left with one solid man.

Then I used the Retro Blur auto action from this Retro Effects pack on him. once again merge into a single layer, but then duplicate him and keep a spare Scotty on a separate layer for later. Then I used SOME SORT OF EFFECT from THIS PACK to create a black and a white version of Scotty, which I offset behind the main drawing.

then I drew a little background, used the same retro blur filter on it, and added a little grain filter on it from this VHS glitch pack, then put a bright yellow multiply layer over the whole drawing for a warmer look. Merge these now.

Then I use the scanlines filter from the same VHS glitch pack to make it look like an old TV, and then since this darkens the whole image to make Scotty POP I took that spare plain Scotty from before and put it on top of all the other layers, set it to glow and lowered to 33% opacity

POP! he is done

Auto actions mostly only work with one layer at a time which is why I have to merge them all the time to cover the whole drawing. I make sure to have multiple save files at different steps as to not lose any progress if I mess up

hello, I know this is probably the most annoying question for some artists and apologize if you've already answered this but what brushes/brush settings do you use for your portraits? if I may ask <3

Hi, Anon!

Don't worry about being annoying, I don't mind answering these types of questions more than once because I change what brushes I use quite often.

As for what brushes I use! I use whatever vibes right with me at the time. I made sure to keep a list for you when I was working on my Chiss eyes. Most of these are free to download from Clip Studio Assets.

This is going to be long, so I'll put it under the cut.

Version 1.10.9 Default Sub Tools. I usually use the mechanical pencil, the watercolour, and the design pencil for my sketches.

2. Design Pencil NT, which I accidentally discovered whilst looking for the Design Pencil in the new CSP update (can't remember which, but it vanished and I was panicked for a hot second there and tried to find a replacement lol). This isn't like the og Design Pencil, but it is very good for eyelashes and hard lines/smooth colour without texture.

3. Perfect Pencil with tilt. My go to brush for sketching up the shape of a more serious artwork with nicer rendering than my sketches.

I also have a lot of oil and gouache brushes that I picked from CSP Assets, along with some texture brushes (ice, dust, etc) and a rake brush pack from devinellekurtz which I've been obsessed with lately.

As for settings, I'm not sure. I usually don't touch those unless I'm using watercolour (and occasionally gouache) and usually then it's like, "do I like how this looks" and then adjust as required. I also usually try to paint on one layer both because it's good for keeping that problem solving area of my brain going, and because I sometimes forget that I can have another layer and an undo button. The traditional skills are very much still there, there's just less mess lol.

Here she is a lot more cleaned up! I have no idea how these screentones will look in the upload, hopefully not too bad lol. I haven’t been able to use a mouse on my computer for a while with my wrist/hand being messed up so I decided to use Clip Studio Paint on ipad to do some manga style art and it’s been one hell of a learning curve! I prefer the desktop version, but my wrist can’t handle it right now. After getting used to it though, I think I prefer it to Procreate to be honest. Procreate is simple and painter-friendly which is awesome, but Clip Studio has so many more tricks when it comes to the drawing you need to tie down. We’ll see! I have 2 more pieces I’m going to put some shading into and post soon, and then I have some other work still sitting in procreate that I need to get done lol. Me when I finally get a job creating art for a living...don't know when, BUT... I KNOW it will be mine. And u better believe I'm powering up when it happens lol.
