Hello! The LATAM dates anon is me. Ahh sorry I gave you a bit of a chaotic ask! I’m not sure if LATAM really isn’t selling well - Lou’s Mexico dates look sold out - but I read stuff on Twitter via various fan accounts that made it seem as though sales in some countries were slow and they were really trying to drum up sales by giving tickets away etc. I also saw a couple of other tumblr blogs mentioning poor sales but I realise now these accounts are kind of ‘Louis hate accounts’ (urghh) and they’ll say anything to put him down.

I guess I just wondered if you’d read anything different about LATAM? I want it to be amazing for him. He’s such a gem and I really want him to do have great shows out there.

Alrighty, let’s look at LATAM ticket sales. Anon, welcome to the show.

Let’s look at some tickets available, capacities, and then I’ll chat more about venue modes and draping etc for some more context.

So, the best selling show in LATAM looks to be Arena VFG, in Guadalajara, Mexico. I’ve had a bit of a look online, and it looks like the show is entirely sold out. That has a capacity of 15,000 , and looks full concert mode, but that doesn’t mean he will have use of all 15,000. The capacity would prooooobably look more like 11,000 - 12,000ish, as an estimate. I haven’t been to the venue so I can’t be 100% on that, but they’re not selling 15,000 tickets to it. We’ll circle back to this later.

Then, his show at Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez in Mexico City, is a race track used for Formula 1 events, music festivals, and stuff like that. It’s said to have a capacity of 110,000, but of course would be a reduced mode due to the fact that well… that’s pretty impossible for any artist to sell out. Hell, TS’s biggest concert ever was 96,000 people at the MCG in Melbourne, Australia in 2024. Ed Sheeran did 109,500 people in one night at the MCG in 2023. Harry’s biggest show in Australia for LOT was 69,512 people at Accor Stadium in Sydney, which for both show nights, had a capacity of 70,170 people (the first night sold 66,791).

Louis’ show at Arena 1 in Lima, Peru, has a promotion on until the 15 Match 2024 for 25% off certain tickets (the promotion started on 2 November 2023). It can hold up to 16,000 people, and by the looks of it is mainly used for concerts, not sporting events. So they could be selling an amount of tickets that’s closer to their actual capacity, as opposed to the other venues. Again, I haven’t been to it so I can’t be sure. The discount on these tickets, however, is only for people using payments of “Credit, Debit, Business, and Working Capital Cards”. We see similar promos with other artists, such as MasterCard pre sales, American Express presales, etc., but I haven’t seen discounted tickets like this for other artists off the top of my head. However…

I looked at Louis’ 1st June 2022 show at Arena Peru Explanada in Lima, Peru, and according to Team Louis News on Twitter, it sold out. They said it has a capacity of 15,000 people, but again, doesn’t mean every seat was utilised, but it doesn’t look like it’s used for sport, so they could’ve gotten close. And, funnily enough, at this arena and show, there was a 15% discount if you paid with an Interbank Credit or Debit card.

A lot of stadiums are owned/sponsored by banks, or insurance companies, or these companies may have a large share of profit for the money they invest in it etc., and it’s a great way of advertising. Signing up for a bank for discounts of tickets at their venue(s)??? Yes please. So, you can see the appeal. And I can 100% guarantee you that this is a partnership and a condition of said bank investing in the stadium. A quick look at their other shows, every artist (Lauren Jauregui from Fifth Harmony, Paramore etc.) has a special discount based on if they used that bank’s cards to pay for tickets. So it’s not “oh louis could NEVER sell enough tickets, he’s a flop” and whatever these losers say, it’s that certain arenas (clearly more prominent in LATAM) will have discounts on tickets due to the partnership with the bank that invests in them.

let’s circle back to capacities. this frustrates me to no end because people throw these numbers around all the time and it just… that’s just not how it works.

You can find a capacity of a venue pretty easily when you google said venue, and often people go “oh wow, this artist is playing a venue that holds 100,000 people!!!!” which is yeah, you’re right, that venue does hold 100,000 people, but that depends entirely on the mode, stage setup, and how big the artist is. Also, if it’s used as a sports stadium as well, it’s gonna hold a hell of a lot more people than a concert mode, because they can utilise every seat. You can’t just sit behind the stage at a concert, but you can sit anywhere during a football match. So that’s a major difference in ticket sales already.

If you’re someone like Harry, who has a big old T catwalk and a larger built out base/main stage, that’s gonna lower the capacity of the venue. So then they make more of it GA on the ground as opposed to seating, to make the capacity higher again. But he plays stadiums, which are used for sport, and so he’s not utilising the whole capacity as it is.

BUT Ed Sheeran did the thing.

At the MCG (Melbourne Cricket Ground, used for cricket and AFL etc.), Ed Sheeran sold sooooo many more tickets than TS, because he had a 360 rotating stage in the middle of the stadium. SUCH a good idea, but that doesn’t work for an artist like TS or Harry. They perform and run up and down cat walks and dance and flail about, Ed Sheeran doesn’t. So, yep, the stage setup can seriously affect the capacity.

Then, estimated ticket sales. Louis sold out his last time in Peru, at a different arena, but it’s pretty safe to say he’ll sell out this one too (hopefully). But, that arena last year might not have been utilised at 15,000. So it’s a bit of guess work too, and finding out what he sold last year (which is easy if the same promoter is hosting but idk I haven’t looked that deep in hahaha but I’d say it’s the same one still).

And when tickets go on sale, they’ll release a certain amount (obviously smaller amounts in pre sales to see how it’s selling), but the ticket website doesn’t tell you how many tickets are left. Why would they? That defeats the purpose of trying to tell people that they might miss out. If the website says there is 10,000 tickets left, you’ll wait til closer to the time to buy one because you’re not worried. But, that skews ticket sales and a show can be cancelled over that, which is happening a fair bit at the moment with ticket reselling websites that aren’t authorised by the venue. I can go into ticketing and ticket reselling further if you’d like but yeah… best we stay on topic.

So, if a show sells enough to at least make a small profit, but isnt sold out regardless of capacity size, the promoter will often put a thing called “drapes” over a certain amount of seating to the side of the stage. These are just big black curtains that cover those seats to make it look more full. It’s what you’d call a “reduced mode”. And, that’s also a way they can use bigger venues if an artist won’t quite sell it out, but they’re too big for a smaller scale show and either don’t wanna do a couple of nights in a row or the smaller venue is super booked out etc. And, artists can sell out a reduced mode, which is great PR for them.

Anyway, there are a million variables that happen with shows. But, capacity does not equal ticket sales, discounts at venues does not equal the size of the artist, and I’m sure Louis is gonna do great in LATAM. I’ve seen so many people excited!!!

I feel like talking so, you're gonna get it.

This Is Why is Paramore's best album (and I am an after laughter truther), I was skeptical bc of CCC and the length of it but tbh, the album as a whole is so cohesive and flows nicely together. It's the perfect length for a drive, a shower, even doing the dishes. Some of their best lyrics (Crave & Thick Skull) to date... I wish I knew more about music theory so I could dissect it, but even the sound has matured. I truly think this is the beginning of their actual true sound..

Forgive me, I spend too much time on Reddit but people who hold on to brand new eyes and riot as their best are just wrong lol! I wish I could feel casual about this, but I've followed this band since 2007 when I was 12... and to really grow up with Hayley has been an incredible experience. She has inspired me in so many ways, I relate to her personal solo music and I just think she / paramore are one of the most authentic musicians of our time!!!

Anyways, Crave... all time song of our existence... truly their best song. Thanks for reading, love your blog! I submitted for the zine and can't wait to see everyone's work for this fantastic album!!!!

i don't know if paramore will ever develope a true sound? i think they're artists that are always on the search for new ways to express themselves through music. i think describing what makes paramore, paramore, is difficult as it's almost more of a feeling? does that make sense? i used to think it was hayley's voice, but then again i think no friend is such a paramore sounding song.

the people who think riot is their best album doesn't know paramore's discography and are just stuck in time. it's okay to love the sound of the record, and now years later it's a defining album for that particular sound in the 00s. but paramore then and paramore now are just so detatched to me. it's not the same band anymore. i agree that bne is one of their strongest albums but then you have AL and tiw who i think are both much stronger bodies of works.

i'm a little too young to have been here from the beginning, but they've been such a monumental (<- pun intended 😎) band to me throughout my pre-teen/teenage years and now young adulthood- just like you <3 every album have defined my life in different ways and i'm so happy to be a small part of the fandom here on tumblr.

(Tumblr Version) Fic: I WILL FACE THE GODS AND WALK BACKWARDS INTO AVERNUS 2/10

Ship: Background Durge/Astarion but it's not the focus

Summary:

When her fellow amnesiac tells Shadowheart that they “hate all the Gods equally” she’s sure they must be lying. By the time she finds them lecturing Gale about the Goddess of magic, it has become abundantly clear they they were not joking. Or: Durge is the biggest God hater in Faerun.

This Chapter:

Gale gets a message that no one likes, Rune calls Mystra a bitch and Lae’zel thinks about about where she stands now.

Notes: This was my first time writing Lae'zel POV so I hope I did it justice. There will likely be a delay between the next chapter because I actually need to play a save file where Minthara lives to experience her well enough to write! But her POV should be next, so gaming time it is.

Their first few days in the Shadowlands were not going well, given Lae’zel was mentally preparing for the possibility she might have to break up a magical fight between their resident wizard and sorcerer.

She hoped she wouldn’t have to: ideally Gale and Rune would decide to spar or have an official duel, rather than casting spells in the middle of camp. That would be the responsible way to go about it. Back among her people, where violence was accepted as long as it was structured, Lae’zel had settled some of her own arguments in that manner, meeting peers with the end of her blade and a superior looking on. But Lae’zel was not among the gith, she might never be again given her people had cast her a traitor, and so she resided herself to the unpredictable customs of the world she’d landed on.

If she was back home, either Gale or Rune would have already started fighting to the death given the words they were exchanging. But they had yet to throw a single spell.

“You can’t be taking this request seriously,” Rune said from across the camp. This was not the first time Lae’zel overheard this debate between the two. She doubted it would be the last.

This all began after Gale had once again brought up Mystra. Rune, Lae’zel realized, was honest with those they trusted. While they could switch their denemor in an instant to suit a scenario, becoming a devout cult worshiper for the goblins and a meek lost stranger for the Harpers, they never bothered to put on the same performance in the close quarters of the camp. There Rune told people what they thought, not what they wanted them to say. Lae’zel had not appreciated it until after Vlaakith, where Rune’s critique of her once Queen turned from heresy into stating facts.

Vlaakith felt like an open wound still, a terrible gaping sense of loss she tried to ignore. What did one do, when the world fell out from underneath them? Lae’zel was on solid earth now, but it felt like she was still falling from the nautiloid some days, desperate to find something to save her from hitting the ground.

Gale was the one on the receiving end of Rune’s honesty today. While he appeared to take it better than Lae’zel had, Lae’zel could see how the wizard tightened his grip on his staff with every word. Rune made it no secret that they cared little for the Gods, but Gale must have thought Mystra was the exception when she was clearly not.

In fact, it appeared Rune disliked Mystra far more than other deities, given how they were speaking to Gale on the subject. With Vlaakith, Rune had only commented on Lae’Zel’s beliefs when Lae’zel brought them up first. This time, Rune had walked up to Gale’s tent and been the one to start the debate.

This was new. Rune made it clear from the first mention of Mystra's name that they had no fondness for Gale’s former paramore. But before today, it had been an impersonal sort of dislike, the kind that seemed baseline for Rune and deities. And then Elminster had shown up with an order no one found reasonable but Gale.

Now, Rune’s dislike was now clearly personal. Lae’zel caught them staring at Gale’s earrings with a rage they usually reserved for their enemies. If Gale ever took them out, she wouldn’t put it past Rune to throw them into the nearest river without an ounce of regret. Rune now frowned when they heard the Goddesses' name, scorn clear in their expression. For a few days, they’d appeared to try to hold their tongue, but as they got closer to Moonrise and Gale further entertained the ludicrous orders he’d been given, they’d apparently decided to shelve tact for pure honesty. Honesty that Gale, at the moment, was not taking well.

“Mystra would not ask this of me were it not important,” Gale said, back stiff straight, almost like he was giving a lecture instead of having a conversation. Lae’zel had quit sharpening her sword to listen in on their conversation, instead sorting her arrows to ensure she didn’t mix up the magical ones with the others. Part of her thought listening in was beneath her, but Gale’s choice did involve them all. If he were to do as his Goddess commanded, he might take them all with him. “It’s not out of a loss of love she asks this of me.”

Rune stood across from Gale, shaking slightly, like they did when their temper got the best of them. Lae’zel had noticed that tell of theirs early on, and had kept an eye out for it since, knowing it a good cue that there might soon be a fight. She still did not think Rune would challenge Gale to a physical battle, it was not Gale who Rune was so incensed with, but she watched carefully all the same. Should they lose themselves, someone would have to pry the two apart before the camp became covered in ice.

“The Gods view us as pawns for their agenda,” Rune said, voice steady despite the scowl on their face. “That’s not love; that’s how you use a tool.”

Gale looked very tired. Lae’zel wondered if it was due to the message Elminster brought or the ordeal that was arguing with their leader when they were in a proper mood. “Everyone dies, Rune.”

“Of course they do; that doesn’t mean we run at death with a warm embrace.” Rune pressed their pointer finger into Gale’s chest, right over where Lae’zel knew the orb laid. She’d seen it a few days ago, back when they found a stream to bath in. The black veins that ran from the orb looked painful. “If she could stabilize your orb, she could fix it. The reason she won’t is because she’d rather get rid of you and the Absolute in the same blow.”

That got a reaction out of Gale that wasn’t feigned academic detachment. He took a sharp breath in and glared, his voice stern, like he was lecturing a child. It was a bad habit of his, one Lae’zel did not appreciate. “Mystra is not a petty ex-lover.”

Rune wasn’t cowed by his change in response. They shook their head, mimicking Gale’s posture and tone. When they lost their patience, they sometimes duplicated the person they were arguing with, the mocking intent clear. This was a bad habit of Rune’s, one Lae’zel also did not appreciate. When Rune spoke, it was as if Gale was a child they were trying to teach a simple lesson to. “If one thing unites the Gods, it’s being petty.”

Lae’zel did not miss the sparks that crackled from Gale’s free hand, little arcs of lightning traveling up his sleeve and into his robes.

“Do you think I should intervene before we have a mage’s duel on our hands?” Lae’zel turned her attention towards Wyll, who was now standing next to her tent, watching their casters debate the intentions of deities. “Can’t say I disagree with Rune on this one, but they’re being a prick about it. They might want to try a gentler touch.”

“Pah,” Lae’zel said, glancing back at the pair. Gale looked to be dismissing Rune from their conversation. Rune’s lip was curled back into a snarl, but they didn’t look to be out of their wits, so Lae’zel stayed where she was. She turned her face up to look at Wyll, who was looking down at her in turn. “There is no gentle touch to striking at matters of faith. It will cause pain all the same.”

Wyll put his hand to his chin. While trying to bed the man at the Tiefling party had been a miserable failure, Lae’zel hadn’t fully hated the long conversation she’d found herself pulled into. Wyll was a good listener, genuinely curious about Gith culture, and willing to answer her questions about the strange world she found herself in. She would have preferred sex, but learning what a tressym was proved somewhat useful. “I guess you would know, huh.”

Lae’zel did know. She’d endured hearing her Queen, the one she dedicated her whole life to, questioned the minute she landed in this realm. She’d spoke of her honor to her companions who knew nothing of where she came from. Lae’zel had arrived in a strange land and defended the most pure truths she had ever known, resolute to those who dared to question otherwise. And Lae’zel had watched as her faith was ripped apart into small shreds, finding her guiding purpose to be nothing more than puppet strings tied around her own neck.

(Rune was kind, afterwards. She expected them to chide her for not knowing better, but instead they had come to her tent after night had fallen, and offered her the circlet they’d found at the creche. They’d listened to her try to reconcile the events of the day and when she was done, they’d told her something that had stuck with her.

“I know you’ve spent a lot of time wanting to be worthy of Vlaakith” they’d said. “But I think it is Vlaakith who was never worthy of you.”)

Lae’zel didn’t answer Wyll, and taking her silence as a cue, he walked off. Rune walked towards her tent shortly after, shoulders raised in agitation. Lae’zel stood up to speak with them.

“I am pleased to see your critique of Gods is truly comprehensive,” Lae’zel said as Rune walked past her tent. They stopped mid stride and turned to look at her, then flushed, likely realizing their entire argument had been audible.

“I promise, it’s universal. There’s a reason Shadowheart won’t talk to me about Shar.” Lae’ Zel doubted that was the only reason: Shadowheart would barely talk to her about Shar and Lae’zel sometimes had her face in between the cleric's legs.

“Is there a reason why you hate them?” She asked, finding herself curious. Her relationship with her Queen was very different from how those of the material plane treated their Gods, but there were some overlaps; the need for a higher purpose, the want to serve a collective, the desire to be more than the confines of one’s body. She wondered if Rune objected to the same feelings she’d used to guide her entire life.” Do you dislike the idea of serving a higher cause?”

Rune didn’t answer at first, their expression turning thoughtful.

“Not really,” they said, talking slower than usual. “Though I can’t say I’d like that either. It’s more about…” They tapped their foot on the dirt, clearly searching for the right word. Lae’zel waited until they found it. “Their power I guess. Their ability to influence people so easily. Gale spent a year in that tower of his worried he could destroy all of Waterdeep and the moment Mystra finds him useful, she sends someone to stabilize the orb.” They glanced at Gale, who was still standing outside his tent, nose buried in a book. Lae’zel could see his hands shaking as he held the tome. “Mystra might want the greater good like Gale claims, but she cannot ask me to pretend such actions are out of mercy rather than convenience.”

Lae’zel thought that over. Personally, she had her doubts that Mystra’s request was based on the greater good; if she was the Goddess of magic, certainly she could solve Gale’s issue without killing the man. If she lacked the power, she wasn’t a Goddess worshiping. Frankly, she thought the entire idea was wasteful on Mystra’s part. Lae’zel was a soldier, and soldiers knew that sometimes the mission meant laying down one’s life to accomplish. But it was folly to send a capable warrior off to their death should that not be required. To do otherwise was wasteful.

“You think your Gods manipulative?”

Rune’s nose crinkled at the term “your Gods” but they didn’t comment on it further. “They are manipulative; some are more honest about it than others,and Mystra is not one of them. Gale says she cares for him, but as far as I can see it, the Gods see us as cherished tools at best.” Their scowl deepened. “But a tool is a thing you use, not that you treasure. I can respect their place in the order of things and I won’t decline their help but I refuse to bow to someone who sees my worth only in terms of my use.”

Lae’zel looked at Rune for a long moment. She wanted to disagree with them, that there was honor and dignity to submit when the cause was greater than one’s life. Even after the truth about Vlaakith, she still believed that. Rune might not see the merit in pledging themselves to a cause, but that did not mean such a pledge was inherently debasing. But the idea of one’s worth being seen only in terms of their use-

She had no issue with her Queen viewing her in terms of her usefulness for the cause of her people. That had been a purpose worthy of Lae’zel’s faith. It was only when she found her use was measured by the nourishing power her soul could provide when her Queen’s assessment of her turned sour.

“There is no shame in being valued for one’s talents,” Lae’zel said. “The issue lies in what traits one sees as “useful.”

Gale had many talents; his aptitude for magic, his helpful if unwieldy explanations of the world she found herself in, his skill in making dinner from whatever they had lying around. Mystra looked past all of that and instead viewed Gale’s greatest asset as how he could die.

Rune nodded. Both of them watched as Gale gave up on reading, rubbed his chest where the orb was and entered his tent.

Lae’zel hoped one of them might convince him of a worthier cause than laying down his life before all of this was over.

Jay: loves science fiction media so much, the one in the team with an unhealthy caffeine addiction, serving golden retriever gamer boy energy, bisexual and doesn't shut up about it /pos, knows a lot of big words but can't spell any of them, went to a chucky cheese when he was like five and now it's his whole personality, loves to zap the others unprovoked (like static electricity yknow-), cluttercore aesthetic, music taste of an early 2000's mom

Cole: the only one on the team who didn't know that the titanic film was completely fictional, loves first person shooter games, musical theatre kid but hides it by listening to classic rock and 60's hits, loves incorporating dance moves into martial arts, hamilton musical references just to annoy the others, a gym bro at heart, gives the best hugs, his dad saw ac/dc once in concert and he's still very salty over it, his blood stream is 80% protein powder and pre workout *sigh*, likes to follow bob ross paintings to destress

Zane: loves indulging in the interests of his teammates, stress bakes, reads wikipedia like its the bible, mom friend™, is the only one that makes their bed, "I'm not your own personal Alexa guys,, so stop treating me like one *plays despacito on command*", sleeps to those weird whale noises (iykyk), really likes super hero media, sleeps on his back like a maniac, always says "you'll never understand the intricacies of" when talking about anything he really enjoys, is actually super chaotic but covers it with logic and various big words

Kai: plays horrible dating simulators unironically, reads romance novels/manga, a sucker for a happy ending (yes that was a heathers reference), resident big red/hot tamales/red hots/atomic fireball consumer (he really likes cinnamon flavored things), puts hot sauce on things that don't really need hot sauce on them, makes s3xu4l comments but is actually s3x repulsed, reads the fanfiction made about him to the rest of the team out of spite, ate hair gel once just to know, eats nya's snacks all the time out of spite of the hair gel incident™

Nya: is always thirsty/always drinks water, watched h20 just add water as a kid, steals protein powder and pre workout from cole, listens to paramore like the goddess she is, cried over the twilight films (she also owns the soundtrack on cd), got kai into romance manga now she just laughs at him for liking it, she likes spice drops but won't eat the cinnamon ones, once poured out all of kai's hair gel and replaced it with elmer's glue (they laugh about it now but they hated each others guts for years over it)

Lloyd: was forced to watch the ant bully movie when he was like twelve and stopped trying to be evil out of fear of being turned ant sized and getting kidnapped by anthropomorphic ants (yes, I am projecting here), can't figure out how to change his xbox-live name so he'll forever be stuck with user garmadone666, gatekeeps mitski seriously, has a scene sonic oc, writes emo poetry in the dead of night, saw the batman movie once and has never been the same, likes a lot popular/mainstream media, tumblr kid, probably has an iron deficiency

"it's time to *really* talk about the album..."

so, I figured since this is the first time that we're "really" talking about it, i would start here. because after all this is where everything started in the first place. well besides Jeremy's living room and our PureVolume profile. this is where we met some of you and built a relationship from afar with so many who, even all these years later, still support our band.

we're only about 2 weeks away from actually putting music to tape. no, we aren't recording this album analog but hopefully you'll understand the expression. we've already gone through all the songs that we have hoped would make it this far and they - about 19 - of them are ready to be recorded. this doesn't mean that we are going to have that many tracks on the album but it does mean that for the first time in the history of our band, we are going to record more than we actually need for an album and end up with more than a few extra tracks to play around with after the fact. it's really been a fun process for us.

by now, you know our producer Justin Meldal-Johnsen is fully involved with every part of this process. we spent a week jamming out a handful of songs a day with him and even wrote a few parts to songs with him that were missing or that just needed extra care. it was all vital to what we will do when we're back to actually hit record. honestly, it was a lot less of a real chore than i thought it might be. pre-production could go either way... at the end of the day you're ripping songs apart to put them back together again. it either works or it doesn't... and thankfully, with all of us more encouraged than ever, we were ready for the challenge of making each song as great as it could be. they'll only get better too. you've never listened to a paramore song as much as i'm about to listen to every rough mix we get back from these recording sessions. i am the original paramore fangirl.

over the next week or two, i'm going to be posting a little more often to our tumblr (paramore.tumblr.com) with little blogs about song subject matter or even just tiny updates about what's going on in the studio. plus, now we have instagram... ("paramorestudio") holy social networking, batman! oh, and don't forget taylor has his own instagram. he likes to compete with jerm and i for the most likes. usually he wins and i told him it's just because all the girls have crushes on him since he's the youngest and cutest. (J.Timberlake of paramore, am i right or am i right?)

anyways, i only have one more chorus worth of lyrics to write before i'm done. we started writing these songs about a year ago... i can't believe it's all about to happen!

How do u do these redesigns?

hi! firstly thank you for asking this, i Love questions

i mainly used canva, and the majority of the elements you see on them are copyright-free pictures available without the canva premium subscription. the rest are paramore photoshoots, some photos i found on tumblr, and a collage of mine that i made a few months ago.

it took me a lot of time to make them all, i spent hours looking for pictures that fit the vibe i wanted for each paramore album & inspired me. I think the riot! album was the one i struggled with the most, i'm still not entirely satisfied with it... to give you an idea of how i worked, here are some first drafts:

i had already picked the photoshoot for the self-titled redesign but it was much simpler, just the picture, a "film" filter, and the paramore logo (if you need me to show you how to make a logo transparent to use it somewhere else, just ask)

and for the brand new eyes one, at first i thought i was going to manually create all these "ripped" pictures of eyes (for the 5 eyes you see here, i picked full pictures of eyes, cut them using photopea, then added between 5 and 10 long pictures of ripped paper that i found on canva. that took me a while and i didn't even end up using it lmao). in the end i found a collage of eyes that i made in october/november and i just took a picture of that because it was way more harmonious. those eyes were from paper magazines. also you can see that when i gave up on this first idea i kept the maps background for my riot redesign.

i looooved this after laughter logo that i made but overall it was too simple a design for my taste so i redid everything. the original idea was to have a kind of postcard vibe, as you can see on the back of the album, but i couldn't find a way to keep the picture and the text in a harmonious way, and by the time i found a solution i had started the finished version you've seen on my blog, so.

now for the detail that ties everything together: the text on the back. I simply copied word for word everything that's written on my copies of each album (i own all of them except for awkif, but it's easy to find online). i found the logos online & i took photos of the actual barcodes.

what else can i say? sometimes i tried to pick the same fonts as the original album cover, and i looked up fan forums who had already answered that question. i browsed tumblr a lot to find the various photoshoots i used. i played a LOT with the canva tool that lets you modify a picture, specifically the colors in the picture, in order to make everything harmonious. and when i needed to make something transparent, i used photopea (which is kinda like photoshop, but free)

do you have a question about an edit in particular? because i'd love to go into more detail if you're interested. if i have one advice to give, it's to go crazy with it: you can literally make anything you want. & if you ever make your own redesigns i'd love to see them!!

sorry to go off rn but those m cr fans are just soooo bitter for no fucking reason. they think their morals have to align with their music tastes and find any sort of way to find any sort of dirt on other bands they don’t enjoy. example i constantly see callout posts for band guys that usually overlap with similar fans and music with m cr. look i know band guys can suck and obviously they shouldn’t be praised like saints, but these out of nowhere callouts for band dudes i see are always from m cr accounts. are you actually wanting to call out shitty behavior or do you just want points for being high and moral because youre the fan of the most unproblematic feminist anti capitalist band who’s never done anything wrong?

they always pick and choose on who’s worthy enough to even be liked on some level of m cr example i remember seeing posts about how the savior m cr were the only ones there for paramore 😫🥹 they are just so cool like that!! no other bands were there for paramore 😞

they act like they are the underdogs and how nobody understands them, but i constantly see several thousand notes about how cool the band is on my dash every so often

they will always call other bands cringe or saying they never understood the assignment with their newer stuff or how they were just never on their level of punk rock in the first place. i seen people say m cr has always made consistently good music unlike those other bands who are pop sell outs but bitch your band hasn’t put anything new out in a decade how tf do u know 💀

sooooo real about the underdogs comment cuz like. i think that mcr feels like the most popular of the “emo trinity” of times past. it’s not like i know this for a fact but i don’t know anyone else irl that is into fob that i HAVENT specifically got them into them!!! whereas i feel like i have so many friends who are into mcr but had never listened to fob until i sent them my playlists. and also another piece of info that backs it up is i’ve gone to 4 emo nights in the last year, and the reception of when they play the black parade vs like…sugar we’re going down is like a BIG difference. except for maybe the specific fob edition, the crowd i would say is duller during sugar like 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄. also like i think you can tell by the dynamics on tumblr too, i feel like there’s like 20 fob girlies and every other bitch is an mcr fan here. we’re outnumbered like CRAZY. and the amount of times i’ve seen people be like “if mcr ain’t your fave from the emo trinity = 🚩” but people NEVER say that about fob. i think i had another example but lost my train of thought bc people are talking around me LMFAO

ALSO THAT SECOND LAST PARAGRAPH LMFAOOOO GET THEIR ASS!!!!!! literally it’s not that deep, it’s music, i get spicy bc i’m frustrated with fob being treated this way from people fob fans are allegedly supposed to be “making out with” or whatever. like i know i’m insane about my four men but they are like INSAAANE about their four men and it’s not in a cute way. as i always say, mcr and fob as bands respect each other and i GUARANTEE the mcr guys wouldn’t want fob to be treated the way these crusty ass mcr mainies treat them. god.

this was rambly, i have no idea if any of this was smart or good, but my main takeaway is to say THANK YOU FOR THIS!!!!!!! and i always appreciate the support ofc bc i’m worried i’m going to be eaten alive by the mcr fans bc they have a history of eviscerating us.

tuesday!

hello tuesday :) i'm going to start crossposting these onto my dreamwidth also just so i have a non-tumblr log of my weekly updates. please friend me on dreamwidth i would love an excuse to move platforms more

listening: OH i listened to SO much this week. i tuned in to my spotify release radar thing and it was a great idea to get exposed to some new music from artists i already know i like! i also peeped the discover weekly one a bit

i haven't listened to the newest paramore album in full but 'running out of time' was on the release radar playlist and i really really like the sounds! it feels very st vincent-y to me in a way that i wasn't expecting from paramore so i wonder if that was a conscious influence at all? or if they were both separately influenced by the same sources? it's really good though. i dont remember following shakey graves but they also rule i've been jamming to the whole album 'deadstock' which i think is just a collection of some of their more popular tracks? plus some live recordings. and tom rosenthal makes me cry still

oh wait actually i do have reading this week! i re-opened the slowly app (i downloaded it years ago but stopped using it at some point), which is a real-time penpal app - you can send letters to random people in the world, and it will send in "real time" as if you were actually mailing a letter! so i opened it and the app went oh? you're active? cool! and i started getting letters! so i got one from a guy in morocco, which i replied to right away, and also one in mandarin which i have NOT replied to right away because i had to spend like an hour translating it rip. out of five i put my mandarin proficiency at a 2 on my profile but honestly that may be too high oops. ah well. it'll be cool to try and get my mandarin back up to snuff! it'll also be a great way to learn things like idioms and other stuff that doesn't show up as often in traditional learning materials.

for example, phrase that i learned is 畅所欲言, chang4 suo3 yu4 yan4, which is a standard four-character idiom that means to speak without inhibitions or to just frankly speak your mind. i have like a full two pages of new words and phrases that i had to look up to read the letter which is awesome!

the letter from morocco was very cool and like...poetry adjacent? which im not sure if it's just because of a translation quirk - he said his english isn't the best - but i dunno. "I am writing to you because writing is a companion of the tired". anyways.

watching: i started watching evangelion with my partner!! we did ... i think about five episodes last week? it owns. this is the first time in a really long time that i've, like...gone blind into a media? my only exposure to eva has been through out-of-context memes (shinji get in the robot) and i feel like a lot of the time with TV shows i tend to read the wikipedia page before watching to see if it's really worth it :") i've never really cared about spoilers or whatever because honestly if it's a good enough show it won't really matter if i know what's going to happen or not, it's more about How it happens and how it's shot/framed/acted/etc. but i have zero context for eva and im very much enjoying it! i wasn't expecting the body horror at all it rules

making: making good progress on my embroidery project! this photo is from about two weeks ago but it's the most recent one i have and honestly haven't done THAT much more. i just finished filling that vertical headphone cord in with red, started some other headphone cord...after that all i have left is the letters (rip) and then doing maybe some sort of sashiko stitch/cross hatching as fill for the hair? like some spaced out x patterns in a grid or something like that. because i'm sure as shit not doing a satin or brick stitch to fill all that in and i think it'll still look good that way.

im also finishing up valentines gifts to mail to people :3

misc: hgg. quantum midterm on march 2. it is Rapidly approaching and im very nervous about it but in a VERY different way - this semester he's having the exams be open note and open book, which could be really good or really really bad. on the plus side i dont have to drive myself insane memorizing equations on flash cards again, most of my studying will probably be uber-familiarizing myself with the layout of the notes so i know where to reference things and also copying out things from online that might be relevant. on the minus side it means i have really no clue on how hard this exam will be. pain.

research is going. i feel like im sooo close to getting shit to work. however i am also experiencing research fomo because a prof that i didnt even know existed gave a presentation on her group for potential new students and i went wait wow that fucks. sigh. i think that's all for this week gang, gonna crosspost to dreamwidth after lunch!

one of the things i've drawn the most over time has been myself surprisingly, I guess it's a way to make me look different, according to my preference but still being myself somehow. Even when I drew myself at that time I made me look quite thinner but now I definetly look nothing like this. I'd like to be more like her but the truth is that I barely recognise me now and I feel frustrated about it. I was pretty much sadder then, though.

but despite being happier now i don't feel very different... at that time i had quit my meds and was, in fact, discovering that i might need them kinda forever?? so i was very depressed until i went back to the doctor and yeah in that way i'm stable now because i'm taking pills again haha but i've accepted it. I just feel bad because inside of me I still feel and think all of these things... it just hurts less deep now.

maybe it sounds stupid for some people (this is why this part and the last paragraph are tumblr exclusive haha and also the censored version for ig doesn't show the text at the pic... i mean my mom follows me etc) but the paramore show and hayley picking me made me feel some joy and hope about life for the first time in ages :_) but sometimes i forget the feeling and go back to same old shit etc

well. Speaking about art. My plans and dreams were very different three years ago or so. I've been without drawing or thinking about becoming an illustrator for a long time. I've suffered a lot because of this but now I feel kinda neutral about it. I don't plan on forcing myself into anything, I just want to live calm and when you're an adult there are lots of things to take care of. Actually in the last months I've been more enthusiastic about music if we talk about creative stuff tbh, but I also got stucked so mmmh... It's complicated for me.

Anyway, I've been feeling SLIGHTLY motivated about drawing lately but I don't think this will go far haha... we'll see.

I don't get a lot of Pokémon ones so this is really exciting for me, and I'll admit I had a little too much fun going through my old Rocketshipping playlist from way, way back in the day! So, in another life (long before I had a Tumblr), a much younger Acacia was just elbow-deep invested in Rocketshipping, and your ask has gotten me all squealing and kicking my feet up in the air about them again. I had lots of fun going back through my old playlist I made for them, though I'll admit most of it was pretty on the nose and/or cheeky with a bunch of criminals in love kind of songs (who knew there was such a genre of that 😅😂). One of my favorites of those has always been "Ocean City" (YouTube) by Charming Disaster. I feel like it really has this Jessie and James vibe to it since it starts of as this kind of bouncy, jaunty pseudo-love song about a couple on what we think is a romantic getaway only to find out by the refrain that these lovers are actually on the run from the law! 😁

It's a fun song so I think it's worth mentioning, but I decided to go for a more serious choice so I can write some related headcanons for you and picked "I Caught Myself" by Paramore which has always felt like a Jessie song to me in the context of Rocketshipping. I feel like the complicated feelings of the singer are very similar to how I imagine Jessie would feel about James and pursuing a romantic relationship.

So without further ado here are some of my "Jessie falls in love with James" headcanons:

Jessie has lingering abandonment issues from her childhood which have made her jaded and guarded. She really struggles to open up to others and even when she has someone in her life (like James) who is so devoted to her and has been such a constant presence in her life, she still struggles to truly accept and believe that he's always going to stick around so she's always looking for the "emergency exit" or that "escape hatch" in case things go south and she goes out of her way to convince herself not to care too much so she won't end up getting hurt.

Despite being so independent and headstrong and so guarded about her feelings, Jessie does feel this almost-undeniable closeness to James and feels this connection, but she stops herself from really exploring that or pursuing it. She does have these moments where she's really beginning to think "Oh, wow! I could actually be falling in love" but then she "catches" herself and doesn't really let herself feel that and just buries her heart deeper and deeper away from him, struggling to admit just how much he means to her and how much she cares about him.

This sometimes even goes so far as her consciously or perhaps subconsciously sabotaging her own chances at happiness by pushing him away. When she feels James is getting too close to her, she sometimes lashes out--feeling it's better to just stop anything that "could be" before it became something and she lost her heart only for it to be broken (or so is her fear)

For this reason, she never expresses her feelings or inner turmoil on this topic despite her affection growing not only in intensity but also in undeniability [to the point that by the time they actually do pursue something romantic with each other, everyone in their lives are just exasperated like "FINALLY. It's about time"].

It's James who confesses first though it is inadvertent and accidental. Confronted with the fact that he actually loves her, Jessie has a sort of existential crisis, but eventually allows herself to believe him. She allows herself to be loved, and it's in that moment that she reaches true acceptance that she loves him too.

So, I took this guy’s information and maybe about a year later I emailed him and told him I was moving to Montreal. It was February the week I moved there and it was fucking freezing, the kind of cold where you know that if you stay out too long you’ll actually fucking die. Anyway, we began to hang out and go out for dinner, but I started to get the sense that maybe those dinners were like dates or something. I don’t know that to be true, and he seemed really cool and sweet, but after nine days or so I knew I had to just be straight up with him. I asked him if he knew any gay people and he said, ‘Actually I’m in art school with a girl and I think you’d really like her,’ and he took me over to introduce me to her. Her place was in a brownstone, kind of like in New York, and we climbed all the stairs up to the top apartment, and when we got inside there was what sounded to me like a horrible racket. The kind of music where you’re like, ‘What in the fuck is this?’. Then this girl comes around the corner and I was immediately kind of intimidated, because she was clearly gay and super cute. She took us into the living room and gave us a beer and then went to get ready because we were going to go to some kind of lesbian Meow Mix kind of event. I’ll never forget Antoine and I just looking at each other and I was like, ‘This song, right? Crazy!’ and it was “Fuck The Pain Away” by Peaches. Anyway, the end of that story is that I ended up dating that girl and she became our band’s art director, and has been our art director for almost 20 years. She absolutely fucking loved Peaches. I was so not ready for that electroclash sound at the time, but because I desperately wanted to be cool and I thought she was the coolest person in the world, I started to love everything that she loved. And so I became obsessed with Peaches too.

I felt so supported by everyone. We were shooting right after I disclosed that I’m trans, in total isolation. That was definitely an overwhelming period, but I feel so lucky that I was going to work and getting to be with so many supportive people. I’m so lucky to work with this cast. And in any moment that I did express fear and anxiety, I felt listened to and cared for. And obviously, that should be the case all the time, but we know how things are. So, it’s special. And that Steve, you would make the choice to do this and commit to doing it the right way. I feel like that’s the kind of showrunner you are and have been doing that the entire time we’ve been making the show, including last season with Sissy. So it was just building on already that you’re so wonderful because you have your distinct singular vision mixed with being so collaborative and I’m really grateful for that, always.

3. Favorite musical artist / group you started listening to this year? Taemin. I have listened to the same few artists for years, so imagine my surprise when he got me invested.

12. Talk about a new friend you made this year. Mmm, it’s not actually a friend I’ve made this year, but we got real close a few months ago. I thought she was that kind of confident, bubbly person who’s always talking and making noise, but she’s actually insecure, very attentive. You could talk about anything without feeling judged. She’s really sweet and kind. (She’s also the biggest simp, I would have never imagined that).
