#i was able to schedule an appointment to get my first vaccine dose next week and one of the jobs i applied for requested an interview!!!

My vaccine experience has been terrible and stressful and it’s put me in a really weird spot where I 100% believe everyone should get this thing if they’re at all able, but also am terrified to try again myself. Which I have to do, it turns out! Because even with this capitalism’s efforts to do things cheaply and as automated as possible has just absolutely fucked me apparently.
Like first off, I have a day job five days a week and every other weekend I am scheduled to do art streams, one for backers and one for comms, which both are typically needed to make ends meet.  Work won’t pay me to miss time for side effects, and I’m finding it very difficult to do these big-ass seven hour streams two weekends in a row on top of my usual work weeks, so finding the right time to get the first dose was a nightmare, but also
that nightmare began with like an hour wait inside of a Walgreens to see if the last appointment would show up or not, because “walk-ins open” is sort of only half true I guess, but largely because if they just gave it to me they’d need to open a new set of the things and they’d all go bad for my sake and that sucks.  Fine, I get it, but the dude didn’t show so they scheduled me for the next day.
Then, as I was walking away, the dude shows up, and the guy flags me down and goes “hey let’s do it now after all.”  Rad, I thought. Progress.
Another hour waiting in Walgreens.
I finally get the shot. She hands me some papers. I need to wait around for 15 minutes to be observed, they said. Alright, fine. I read the papers while I wait; the side effects of the shot possibly killing you are basically 1:1 with what happens to me during a panic attack. I’ve developed this weird history with needles where I get panic attacks or something adjacent with some weird and mildly random delay after getting any kind of shot.  Now I’m thinking about that and the room is spinning. I call my wife hoping she’ll talk me down. I get about two sentences into that call before I wake up to my phone ringing on the floor.  Nobody on staff notices.
Three hours after getting there, I hobble out of Walgreens. I’m basically wiped out for three days - even without the shot, the weird lightheaded shit I get from these pass-out sessions does some vile stuff to the rest of my body that lingers for a day or two sometimes.
I was advised that since I got the shot day-of after all I’d need to reschedule my appointment, though, and this led to problems.  Walgreen’s vaccine setup only does appointments in pairs; if you missed the first, you won’t get the second, and there was to our knowledge no way to do just the second, especially via their robo phone tree. Kaz deals with Walgreens all the time for her meds, so she knows how to get through the phone tree - it’s by being so hostile that I feel bad for the robot, for the record - but when asking if we could schedule just a second shot either they hung up on us or the line went dead.
I said “screw it, I’ll just show up in a few weeks,” but then I just never did, because I didn’t have a hard deadline to my knowledge and I was quite stressed out from the whole experience, but it turns out that the day I finally worked up the will to get the second dose? Where I had people willing to be there for me in case things went south again?
Three days after the six week deadline before the whole thing is moot, which nobody told me about.
So now I’m back to square one, barely able to work my will up for one more shot but staring down two, wondering if this means I now have the option to go somewhere else or if that counts as mixing vaccines, which even I know to be bad, and feeling incredibly lost and frustrated with the whole thing.
And the brutal truth is that none of these places have accommodations for Kaz that would allow her to get the damn shot anyway! She can’t stand around a Walgreens for hours. She could barely walk back to where the pharmacy even is, and all like two chairs back there are made for skinny little asses so she’d have nowhere to sit while her spine declares war on her. (And this is all ignoring that she basically can’t go out during daylight without a bunch of excess precaution since her antidepressants have rendered her some sort of vampire in the skin department, by which I mean the amount of time it takes for her to get sunburnt is less than the time it takes to walk to the car from the house.)
So I’d still need to act like I haven’t had the shot, because even though it’d stop me from getting sick, I could still bring something home and transmit it to her. Nothing about my life would change. I cannot go back to “normal.” At this rate, ever.
So on the one hand I’m with everyone going “hell yeah get your shot”
but on the other I am effectively one of the people who hasn’t, with someone else who hasn’t and seemingly can’t (I do not understand why we can’t just set up an appointment with her doctor, who does have accommodations, for this??? Why does it need to be some retailer pharma??), and the whole thing is both deeply frustrating, confusing in implementation, and leaving me feeling like a hopeless statistic that’s here just to frustrate everyone else.
Like, I’m probably never going to have a group of people over again? Game nights are gone. Socializing is gone. Web calls never replaced it, we’re not that important to anyone. Holidays are well dead. My family has tried to talk us into attending church for several things, including Christmas and Mother’s Day, and just doesn’t understand how not plausible that is. Kaz is high risk; I have been assured that if she gets COVID, she almost certainly will die. I can’t play fast and loose with this shit like everyone around me wants to. I’m forced to come into work every day as it is and still dread coming up the stairs and being forced to be within five feet of another person, none of whom have ever masked during this thing. If I thought there was a safer job available to me that wouldn’t leave us homeless, I’d take it in a heartbeat.
Sorry for the long post. I just feel so defeated by this whole mess and I keep seeing post after post saying anyone who doesn’t get the shot is an idiot, basically, and while I realize we’re outliers I feel terrible all the same.

The Phantom Stockpile
Who wants one final disaster-causing lie from the Trump administration for the road? Show of hands, please.
(Sigh...)
The governors of several states accused the Trump administration on Friday of deception in pledging to immediately distribute millions of COVID-19 vaccine doses from a stockpile that the U.S. health secretary has since acknowledged does not exist.
Confusion over a vaccine supply windfall that was promised to governors but failed to materialize arose as scattered shortages emerged on the frontlines of the most ambitious and complex immunization campaign in U.S. history, prompting at least one large New York healthcare system to cancel a slew of inoculation appointments.
Just 10.6 million Americans have received a shot since federal regulators last month granted emergency approval to two vaccines, one from Pfizer Inc and BioNTech and a second from Moderna Inc, the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported.
That tally falls far short of the 20 million vaccinations the Trump administration had promised to administer by the end of 2020, as the COVID-19 pandemic raged virtually unchecked with ever-increasing record numbers of infections, hospitalizations and deaths.
The Pfizer and Moderna vaccines each require an initial dose and a booster shot given about three weeks apart.
Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar had said on Tuesday that the administration would release millions of doses it had been holding in reserve for booster shots in order to help spur a sluggish rollout of first doses to those most in need of the vaccine.
Azar said then that the administration was confident enough in the supply chain to release its stockpile, and urged states to use the additional supply to open inoculations to everyone aged 65 and over.
Many states obliged, but on Friday a number of governors said they were dismayed to learn that no stockpile existed.
“Last night I received disturbing news, confirmed to me directly by General (Gustave) Perna of Operation Warp Speed: states will not be receiving increased shipments of vaccines from the national stockpile next week, because there is no federal reserve of doses,” Oregon Governor Kate Brown said on Twitter.
“This is a deception on a national scale,” Brown added, demanding an explanation from the outgoing administration.
Most of what follows explaining why the concept of holding vaccine doses in reserve wasn’t the worst idea in the world was written up after a story came out that the Biden administration was going to release what we were convinced was still a very real stockpile to get the country back into gear. Something kept me from posting it, and now that the full story is out, credit for that goes to the little voice in my head that says “Fuck you for taking any information from this administration at face value.“
Both of the approved vaccines are 95% effective after two full doses administered several weeks apart. The Pfizer-BioNTech interval between doses is 21 days, while the Moderna vaccine is administered in a 28 day interval. An exact interval and an exact amount. It’s painfully important not to half-ass it.
We have no idea if either vaccine is going to be effective if you draw out the distance between shots, but the FDA is clear about the consequences of assuming one shot has you covered:
Using a single dose regimen and/or administering less than the dose studied in the clinical trials without understanding the nature of the depth and duration of protection that it provides is concerning, as there is some indication that the depth of the immune response is associated with the duration of protection provided. If people do not truly know how protective a vaccine is, there is the potential for harm because they may assume that they are fully protected when they are not, and accordingly, alter their behavior to take unnecessary risks.
We know that some of these discussions about changing the dosing schedule or dose are based on a belief that changing the dose or dosing schedule can help get more vaccine to the public faster. However, making such changes that are not supported by adequate scientific evidence may ultimately be counterproductive to public health.
Even if it does mean a slower rollout, holding back half of what’s on hand would’ve guaranteed that the people in the early phases of the rollout got the recommended dosage on schedule. Releasing the full amount at once and assuming that manufacturing capacity will cover for the back end is a huge gamble. If the choice is between doing it fast or doing it right, pump the brakes and keep everyone safe.
Sitting on a stockpile to make sure the rollout was done the right way would’ve been one of the Trump administration’s best ideas in the history of the COVID-19 crisis...assuming they were able to do that, or that they even tried at all. Instead, the Washington Post reported that the Feds tapped out their stockpile in late December, long before Azar opened his big, stupid mouth and made a promise he couldn’t keep.
On a certain level, I kind of hope Azar was intentionally lying, because if he didn’t have the first clue about how far off the mark his promise was, what good is he as head of Health and Human Services?
So now I’m in the regretful position of suggesting that you make absolutely sure that you’re going to be able to get the second shot before you make an appointment for the first one.

Hihi Cat! I've come to deliver some good news! (This is pretty long huhu ToT)
MY ERB HAS BEEN APPROVED AND I CAN PROCEED TO RECRUIT PARTICIPANTS!! Ahh it's been such a blessing to be able to proceed immediately! I've actually hit my target amount of participants in less than a day (IT'S CRAZY) but I'm gonna collect more responses cuz the more the better! (Would you wanna check the questionnaire out? I can PM you the link!! :3)
Also also I PASSED THAT FINALS! The one I took a day after my vaccination (1st dose) ToT GAHH I'm so happy I won't even ask for more, it's enough :3
I've been writing my thesis during this sem break but it's progressing pretty slowly cuz I've been so drained from last semester and the vaccine itself. Huhu but I've written a brief rundown for my proposal so there's a rough idea there, just needa rly assemble it into a clear narrative. And yes I agree! Psychology studies are a beautiful fusion of science & human essence imo, and its fascinating learning more abt ourselves and how we as the human species progress in life ya know? 😌
I got my second dose exactly a week ago and got the same side effects - headache, arm soreness, hunger, fatigue; I felt like a fusion of psyduck & snorlax HAHAHAHA 😂 - it wasn't anything serious so yay I'm fully vaccinated! (in a few weeks time keke I'll be)
HAHAHAHA my vaccination appointments were pretty eventful. The nurses and volunteers were all so warm and friendly! I'm the type of person who feels whatever's being injected into me, it's not the pain that I wanna distract myself from (it wasn't pain tbh) but that sluggish discomfort I get from the needle ejaculation >//< sooo as they showed me the vile and syringe before injecting me, I prepped my Yangyang photocard in my hand. During my second dose, the nurse thought I had some fancy way of taking a video when in actual fact I was just looking at my Yangyang photocard hehe UwU she asked me whether I wanted to see the needle going in (smtg I can't look at tbh) and I was like HELL NAH ToT
And also some recap from the previous ask!
There's no need to apologise for the delayed response okie!! UwU my sem break is ending this week, but I've spent my time completing my academic research trainee tasks (transcribing audio clips), I've also created the content & design for my uni's newsletter, did some thesis writing, and I took a course on financial planning on Coursera to prep myself for the adulting life ToT
And idm sharing my back up / failed topics! I didn't have a lot of cards in my hands, but here are some of em!
1) time perspective and meaning in life 2) anticipatory nostalgia 3) not a topic but a variable! fragility of happiness / happiness aversion
what ideas did you settle on for yr art pieces? If you dm sharing, I'd love to hear abt it! 💖💖💖
Tbh I can't think of a fav ice cream flavor hmm 🤔 i rly didn't think it'd be so hard thinking of a fav ice cream flavor but the first that comes to mind is green tea! I like them milky flavored ice cream😍 though my fav from this ice cream place I go to is thai milk tea, it's so fragrant and milky!! 🥺💖 I just got myself a tub of milk & biscoff gelato keke UwU what's yr fav ice cream flavor? :3
For my course structure:
We have 2 long sems (Jan - Apr, & Aug - Dec, 16 weeks) & a short sem (May - July, 9 weeks)! Our sem breaks are only around a month then it's back to sleepless nights ToT AND YES those weeks were the most stressful weeks ever 🥺😭 I'm glad I'm graduating soon for that reason 😂(though idk what awaits in the working world ToT that is another fear I have :/)
Thank you for being part of this journey and being open to listening to my lil adventures! 🥺🙆🏻‍♀️💖😭 esp w the amount of responses and ppl helping me, I feel a lil more motivated to work and excel in this pregnancy (thesis, I call it pregnancy cuz it's around 9 months too HEHE) Since the pandemic, it's been pretty hard separating studies & hobbies :/ I've learnt it the hard way from my period cramps last sem (mine's the severe type where you can faint ToT), and it was also on my last paper for finals !! Very traumatizing ._. but I'll continue to manage myself better! :3
Huhu Cat since you're working now, I also wanna ask abt yr experience in job seeking! Cuz unemployment is a real deal here esp. w everything that's going on :') I don't have working experience either (only had 1 through internship) and it literally feels like I'm going into the unknown ToT I've been running over some case studies and assessments just to better prep myself for this. Do you have any advice as someone who's already working? UwU
Take care and stay lovely as always!! 💖💖💖
hi, sweetpea !!!! 🌸 omg major congratulations for getting your ERB approved, honey bee !!!!! 🥳🥳🥳 that’s absolutely amazing, and I’m uber proud of you 🥺💗💗 also, it’s wonderful that you hit the required number of participants so quickly !!!!! (And I would love to participate if the questionnaire is still open 🤧)
AND HECK YEAAA CONGRATS ON PASSING THE FINAL TOO 🤩🤩🤩🤩 big congrats to you all around, miss smarty pants 💓💓💓
Oh gosh, I hope you got to rest during your semester break too ): you’re working so hard, please remember to take care of yourself !! 💕 your mental health is more important 🤍 have you finalized your proposal now? And omg yes exactly !!! It’s so interesting to see the thought process behind an action and how it can be manipulated or influenced by various stimulants or there’s also the argument between nature versus nurture too and how that affects psychology and it’s just all so cool to learn about 🤩
Omg you had so many symptoms, I’m so sorry to hear that 😭 I only had a sore arm, but that’s what happens when I get any shot 🤧 I hope you’re feeling better now 💘💘
I’m really glad to hear that the nurses and volunteers were kind and friendly !! it’s always comforting to have nice people as doctors, especially when you’re trusting them to stick a needle in you bshdjdjdkd omg yangyang to the rescue !!!! 💞💞 we’re not allowed to record record any medical appointments, like I think the nurse thought the person in front of me in line was recording when they were getting their vaccine and said they weren’t allowed to do that 😅 and aaaaa I always have to look when they inject me, I don’t like being taken by surprise 🤧
oh my gosh you were so productive over your semester break !!!! :o and oooo you do content & design for your school’s newsletter? Do you do stuff like graphic designing and write articles? 💓 and how was the financial planning course !! Did you learn a lot? Did you like the studies? :’)
aaaaa those topics sound so cool ??? 🤩🤩 I would definitely be down to read about those omg 💛
for my 3D design class, I decided to do lightbulbs and flowers as my overarching theme for my art pieces !! I included a couple pictures below under the cut at the bottom 💓 the first one is a soft sculpture made out of newspaper, and there’s a pencil next to it for size reference, the second one is made of wires that I shaped myself, and the third one is made of foam boards that I cut and assembled myself as well 💕 and I included a picture of my final painting project! it’s a triptych and I believe the size was like 18 x 24 for each one? If you click on the picture, it should be better quality!
omg I love green tea ice cream too !!!!! 🍵🍦 I like going to somi somi for their matcha and milk swirl ice cream with red bean taiyaki 💚 I only had thai milk tea ice cream once, but it was phenomenal 🤩 I wish they sold it near me too !! milk and biscoff :o I’ve never tried that flavor! I’ll have to see if it’s sold around here :’) green tea is my favorite, but I also really like everything but the... from Ben and Jerry’s !! 💛 also alcoholic ice cream.... like there’s this one kind where it was a breakfast esque type with vanilla, corn flakes, and bourbon, and it was delicious 😋
omg what 😭😭 you’re basically going to school year round with no break bahsjdjdjdkd when I was in uni, i had a month off for winter break (usually something like dec 9 - jan 9) and then mid june to mid September off, so around three months of summer vacation? Your school schedule sounds absolutely brutal 💀💀
and omg of course !!! Thank you for letting me be a part of the journey 🥺💗 bdjdjddj pregnancy omg that’s such an interesting way of seeing it :o sending you all my love and support for a successful delivery of your thesis baby 🥰🥰 oh yeah, it’s definitely been a struggle to separate everything, especially when the lines between home and workspace blur with online school or working from home. And oh my god ???? Are you okay ?? Did you go see a doctor or take any medication? I hope you’re feeling better now !! Please take care of yourself 😭
ah, I got my job through my internship, so I’m not sure how helpful I will be 😅 but during the process of interviewing for internships, there were several rounds for each company that range from a group interview, a one on one interview, video interview where they give you random questions that you have to answer on the spot (some of mine were discuss the stock market, give a sales pitch on something you’re interested in, etc), a test, etc. I think it’s different depending on the job you’re going for, but that’s what I had to do in the business field! It’s important to study and prep for all of this!! It’s like taking an verbal exam for one of your classes. And also make sure to study the company’s website and familiarize yourself with what they do/sell.
My one piece of overall advice would be about interviews! Interviews are important in which the person interviewing you is seeing if you’ll be a good fit with the company, not in terms of skill, but personality. They already know you’re qualified and have good skills - that’s how you got the interview. With the interview, they’re essentially trying to see how personable you are and if you will work well with their team. Some people are so intent on proving their skills that they kinda just rattle off all their achievements and whatnot, and it’s like... the interviewer already knows this, it’s all on the resume they reviewed when they decided to give the interview offer. Be friendly, open, maybe make a little small talk at the beginning (“hey, how are you? any weekend plans / how was your weekend?” This is what I did for all my business interviews, and I got an offer back from every one 🤧💗), make appropriate jokes / be a little funny, just show that you’d be a fun person to have in the office whom people will want on their team, but that you will also be dedicated to the job and work hard 💘
And thank you so much, honey bee!!! 💞 I hope you’re doing well and having a good week , and please take care as well 🌷🌷

Our Covid Experience
Despite taking all precautions, not going outside for food/leisure, not meeting parents for more than 15 months, skipping important family functions or celebrating few functions without family, all of us (my whole family) tested covid positive while sitting at home.
We believe it started with Dad coughing, and then Bua (my aunt, father’s sister) and Wife coughing on 25th April, 2021. We isolated ourselves and got a home test scheduled for 27th April, 2021 for everyone. Bua and Wife tested positive whilst all other negative. Dad’s cough lasted for a day or two. I decided to stay back to take care and also I expected to test positive in a day or two because sleeping with wife. All other left for sister’s house (Papa, G ja G [brother in law], nephew [3 Year Old], sister) and to think about it, few days back I was getting ready to book vaccine appointments for rest of us
However, before Bua and Wife started coughing (showing symptoms), one day I felt extreme weakness suddenly to the point I was not able to move but next day I was perfectly fine. This weakness could have been my first symptom or first symptom in the house. On 28th April, 2021, I too started having sore throat and next day fever. Others who had left also started showing symptoms. On 1st May, 2021 my sample was taken again for RT-PCR and tested positive. On 3rd May, 2021, everyone else tested positive too.
My symptoms were: Extreme and Sudden Weakness three or four days before cough and fever and then fine next day, Extreme Dryness in the mouth, burning eyes (could be pollution of Delhi NCR), rotten aftertaste in mouth, loss of smell, taste, cough, fever, body pain, headaches, weakness.
Most of the time when thermometer showed fever, we did not feel feverish, which caused us to believe our thermometers were at fault, so we ordered more and they all showed the same reading. So, you might have fever but might not feel it at all.
Nephew was not tested for Covid but he did have fever and cough around the same time when we had, so we assumed that he also had Covid and fought it.
We sort of were preparing for this because most of our relatives were affected while sitting at home, and people in the apartment were being diagnosed positive in huge numbers around us. Also we had most of the medicines at home due to one reason or the another. When wife and Bua consulted doctor, all of us started with medications as well immediately.
After this we did few things:
Opened all doors and windows in the house to keep it well ventilated. Only netted doors and windows were closed.
Kept a bowl of water in every room to make the environment humid. Don’t know if it helps or not or placebo effect, but it did seem to help us. The bowl would be half of its original quantity by EOD. Also, used to just fill the vaporizer for steam and let it run for sometime.
We started noting down our respective SpO2 levels and body temperature every 3-4 hours.
If AC had to be used, it was at 28c and doors and windows were still kept open.
We minimized our work to bare minimum. Weakness was hitting us all badly. Food was mostly ordered in.
As with illness, we weren’t hungry most of the time, but we needed energy too, so we ordered sweets for ourselves which we liked.
Things you should have at home now and the brands I trust:
Brands: Rossmax, Dr Trust, BPL
Atleast one Oximeter
Nebulizer with separate mask for each user. Extra masks are good.
Digital Thermometer. We had separate thermometer for everyone. Infrared thermometers are mostly inaccurate, avoid.
Plenty of N95 and Surgical masks
[UPDATE BELOW, REFER TO EDIT 7] As of now, we have almost recovered. Everyday we tend to feel better than yesterday. Nephew, Papa and Bua were first ones to recover. Wife and G Ja G’s cough lingered on for quite long. G ja G still has extreme weakness. I have reduced sense of smell, can’t taste salt, mouth feels rotten always, have weakness and occasional headaches. None of us has fever now. Blood reports were mostly normal for us. Blood tests done: CBC, CRP, D-Dimer and Serum Ferritin. On 10th May, 2021, Sister, G Ja G, Nephew, and Papa came back to Indirapuram.
We got infected sitting at home. Literally, no-one was allowed to leave house except me and G ja G. We used to double mask, wear face shield and literally bath in sanitizer when out. Still we got it but we were lucky in the sense that none of us was affected enough that we had to go to hospital for treatment. Be careful. If anything which is not normal to your body, treat it as symptom and get tested. I am not mentioning the medicines that were prescribed to us, though, just a suggestion to check with your doctor if you do have symptoms (don’t wait for the positive RT -PCR report) and whether if you should take Paracetamol or Dolo for a fever of less than 100. Latest definition of fever is body temperature >= 100.3.
As for people who are still doubtful or apprehensive about the vaccine, here are 6 cases in which vaccines saved my family, all of whom are 60+, from having serious symptoms :
Papa: Heart patient, operated, least affected. Fully vaccinated. Covid +ve in early second week after 2nd dose. Covishield
Bua: Diabetic, mildly symptomatic, high d dimer, recovered the fastest. Fully vaccinated. Covid +ve in early second week after 2nd dose. Covishield
My Another Aunt (Chachi): Extremely asthmatic, mild symptoms, recovered quickly. One dose. Covishield
Grandmother: probably 90 years old, asymptomatic. One dose. Covaxin
Mummy (in law): Probably remained asymptomatic, tested negative twice. Was in close contact (multiple times) with someone who was severely affected due to Covid to take the same person to hospital. Fully Vaccinated. Covishield.
Papa (in law): Cough and Fever, fully vaccinated. Covishield.
Vaccines prevented them from getting seriously impacted. Please take the vaccine as and when it is available. It prevents people from going into ICU.
[EDIT 1 – 19/05/2021] In-Laws started showing symptoms few days back. Struggling to get blood tests done because no1 is willing to come for home collection.
[EDIT 2 – 22/05/2021] G Ja G and Wife had their Kidney Function Test and Blood Sugar tests done today owing to the steroids that were prescribed to them. Results of both tests for both came out normal.
[EDIT 3 – 23/05/2021] Wife left for her hometown for in-laws house, finally, after trains that were booked were canceled, preferred flight was getting canceled for 4 days, so avoided, booked flight got rescheduled. Despite having previous day negative RT-PCR report, wife was stamped for Home Quarantine of 7 days. Mummy (in law) tested negative, papa (in law) is positive. Both of them are fully vaccinated (Covishield, more than 2 weeks since second dose). None of them have fever. Papa has cough, X-ray was fine. Meanwhile, in Indirapuram, we all have tested negative in latest RT-PCR test.
[EDIT 4 – 24/05/2021] Papa (in law) had slight fever 101 (max), hovered around 99 most of the time.
[EDIT 5 – 25/05/2021] Getting the in-laws tested was a task in itself. No-one was ready to come for home collection. Had booked LFT, KFT, Fasting Sugar, Urinalysis, D-Dimer, CBC, CRP and Serum Ferritin for Papa (in law) and CRP, CBC, Serum Ferritin and D-Dimer for Mummy (in law). Finally, one guy agreed if we paid little extra, which we did and blood sample was taken for both at 11:30 AM instead of scheduled 06:30 AM. Blood tests finally done for both were CRP, CBC, Serum Ferritin and D-Dimer.
[EDIT 6 – 26/05/2021] One set of reports came and they are so so, could have been better. CRP was in normal range for both but CBC could have been better for both. For D Dimer and Serum Ferritin, we will have to wait another day (as per the guy who came for home collection).
[EDIT 7 – 27/05/2021] Indirapuram: I still can’t taste salt, slightly heavy voice, headaches and mouth feels rotten though it has reduced. G Ja G and wife no longer have cough even though it lingered on for quite sometime. Weakness (of varying degrees) is a symptom common to all. For me, the weakness that hits post covid after doing some heavy duty work is something else. It literally makes me drowsy, the kind you cant even keep your eyes open but also cant sleep. Just lie down and wait for it to pass.
[EDIT 8 – 28/05/2021] Papa (in law) has slight cough and no fever for 3rd day without Paracetamol/Dolo. Weakness will remain. Mom (in law) remains asymptomatic. Also, today is 11th day since he started showing symptoms, so he is essentially free of virus now. D-Dimer and Serum Ferritin reports are delayed because sample is sent to Kolkata from Jameshedpur and that was delayed due to Cyclone Yaas.
[EDIT 9 – 29/05/2021] D-Dimer and Serum Ferritin reports came for both (on 5th Day since giving blood sample) and all seem to be fine. Today is Papa’s (in law) 12th day since symptoms came and 4th Day without fever and Paracetemol/Dolo.

hi i’m gonna rant for a minute
my 6-8 page research paper is due monday and i still haven’t started it. i don’t even know how to start and it’s stressing me out because there’s so much to write and so much more research i still want to do and connections between subtopics that i want to develop but it’s spring break so i also just want to relax bc school has really been kicking my ass lately and i’m just so tired
i bought a stuffed lion the other day (like one of those kinda realistic big ones) but now that the excitement and novelty is starting to wear off i feel really stupid for getting it even though i really do love it but it just reminds me of how happy i was when i bought it and i feel like im never gonna feel that rush of excitement ever again
i had an apush assignment due on friday that i procrastinated doing to the point where i completely forgot about it. like i full on cleaned my room to avoid it. i only wanted to avoid it because it involved reading a few pages of information and then answering text-based questions on it, which is one of my least favorite types of assignments bc i’m always worried about accidentally missing something. i finally did it this morning and it only took me like 20 minutes tops and now i feel ridiculous for avoiding it for so long
i want to go downstairs and just watch tv with my mom but i know that if i do she’ll just try to make me work on my research paper which is the absolute last thing i want to do right now
my school has been doing a hybrid model all year (half of us go in monday/tuesday, everyone else goes in thursday/friday, everyone is home wednesday) but after this week they’re sending us back in full time. i don’t understand how the administration thinks that’s a good idea, especially since people will be traveling to places like florida which is in really bad shape and then don’t even ask them to quarantine when they get back. every day i count at least 6 people who aren’t wearing their mask properly, which is even more insane if you consider that i’m only seeing the people in my immediate area, that number is already cut in half, it’s only the people who i can directly see as i walk down the hallway, and i only start counting at the end of the school day. there’s no way to maintain 6 feet social distance in those small classrooms with a full class and we’ve had 90+ reported cases (WITH the hybrid model) at the school this year alone, more than double what every other school in the area has reported, and i still don’t know why they think this is a good idea
i was only just able to schedule my first vaccine appointment on the 24th of april and since minors can only get the pfizer vaccine, i’ll have to wait 21 days to get the second dose, and even then i won’t technically be fully vaccinated for another week after that, so i won’t be immune until may 22 at the earliest.
that means i’ll have to spend several weeks in school full time with a bunch of nasty, irresponsible teenagers, unvaccinated, and i won’t even get to learn from home for half the week. i love the hybrid model. i’m thriving on the hybrid model.
my pediatrician keeps talking about eventually stopping my adhd medication and i don’t understand how no one sees what a terrible idea that is. all of my academic classes are either advanced or ap and i’m doing really well right now, but i definitely won’t be if i have to stop taking the one thing that keeps me from completely checking out for the entire class and subsequently learning nothing and then falling behind to the point where i can’t even begin to catch up with the rest of my peers. the thought of stopping my meds ever gives me so much anxiety and i don’t even want to think scott how hard i would crash and burn if i suddenly stopped
and i should definitely be talking about all of this with my therapist but i only see her every two weeks and i was supposed to see her today but since it’s spring break i won’t be seeing her again until next monday (mere hours after my paper is due) so i’m just sitting here and suffering through my endless stress until i can see her again

New Brunswick takes onus of calling people to set up COVID-19 vaccinations
Former lieutenant governor and member of the Tobique First Nation Graydon Nicholas received his first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine on Monday.
"So often, our communities have to wait a long while before we're able to get the proper medical attention," Nicholas said. "But this was very good, the medical people in our community, the nurses and others, they were excellent."
More vaccine clinics are set up in First Nations communities this week and the province says 10,400 people will be immunized this week alone -- including residents and staff at 56 long-term care homes.
All long-term care residents will have their first dose by next week, but there's no indication of when clinics will be set up for specific age groups.
"New Brunswickers are asking right now: 'how do I register? Who's going to contact me? Who do I contact? When is it going to happen and where?" said opposition leader Roger Melanson.
He says people are calling their offices, asking these questions.
New Brunswick's provincial neighbours are allowing people in certain age groups to register for an appointment and Melanson plans to bring it up at the next COVID cabinet committee meeting on Wednesday night.
"I'm still worried that we're not ready like we need to be in terms of the roll out," Melanson said. "It's the unknown that really have people questioning."
Per capita, New Brunswick has administered more doses than Nova Scotia and another 1,970 people will be vaccinated this weekend.
Health Minister Dorothy Shephard indicated last month that you will be getting a call when it's your turn.
Nicholas says he's noticed some hesitancy.
"Yesterday, I ran into a friend in the community," Nicholas said. "I just happened to go into the convenience store there, and there was a guy I used to coach in baseball in my younger days, when I was playing baseball, so he was one of the players, he said 'what are you doing?' So I told him what I was there for and he said, 'gee I'm not sure if I should get one or not,' and I said, 'you should.'"
The 75-year-old Nicholas is scheduled to get his second dose in April.
The province is promising an update on it rollout plans sometime this week.

Happy(?) Anniversary(!)
It's been awhile since I've updated the old blogster, so I wanted to provide you all with the latest and (not so?) greatest.  Nothing is particularly bad, but this is a cancer blog, so...
On Monday March 1st, I will have my 12th Lanreotide injection.  12 injections.  I can't believe it's been a year.  It was Tuesday, February 11, 2020 that I got the call from Dr. Rose.  I had a CT scan the week before (Friday, Feb. 7th) and he got the results on Tuesday afternoon and asked me to come in first thing Wednesday morning.  Fast forward through lab work and biopsies and scans and more lab work, and my first injection was March 9, 2020.  I've had cancer (again) for a year.  And to think this was discovered because I had heartburn and a doctor who didn't trust that my body was doing anything normal, as it has a history of being a bit of a jerk.
Today, I went to Labcorp and got my monthly bloodwork done for my oncologist, and then also got the bloodwork prescribed by my gynecologist (I'll explain).  It was a quick in and out kind of thing, but since I was listening to a department meeting via airpods, it was a little tricky.  Luckily, my "sorry, I'm also in a work meeting," didn't seem to faze them...sign of the times?
In addition to my oncological adventures - I have also been dabbling in dental crises.  I had a filling break in 2019 and I made the mistake of thinking I would wait until I was done breast feeding/my insurance kicked back in to get it taken care of.  Then Covid happened and I avoided any non urgent appointments.  Then a second filling broke and again, I was just going to wait (except it was jagged and bothering me).  So I made an appointment for the holiday break so that I didn't need to figure out childcare (we didn't want to expose anyone else).  Fillings were drilled out and refilled, only to leave me with a HORRIBLE pain in my mouth.  So when I went on leave, I made another appointment, and was prepared for a root canal (as they believed I would need).  I thought I wouldn't need childcare and this would be okay, but then I was called back to work.  Luckily, I didn't need the root canal - and they were able to fix things - but it was such a hassle and anxiety ridden event.  And because one additional issue is never enough -- I also have had some questionable "lady" issues that I won't delve into here, as I don't want to scar any children (or men reading). So I had a telehealth appointment with my OBGYN forever ago and they recommended going in for a mammogram and chest ultrasound (scheduled for March), and a pelvic ultrasound in February (results were normal), additional blood work, and a glamourous procedure called an endometrial biopsy.  Fingers crossed I am not starting a cancer collection, but rather just going through menopause - something I may actually be looking forward to at this point.   In other news - I am currently teaching virtually, as I did from September 2020 through January 2021, until the district made a two week attempt at hybrid instruction - which undoubtedly failed because the teachers - perhaps me, specifically - were out and sabotaging the students...I'm not triggered, you're triggered.  So between snow days and schedule changes and asynchronous learning days and teacher changes, my students are all sorts of confused and I am losing my mind trying to track them down and get things back in order...hopefully just in time for us to switch back to hybrid again, you know.  I am still not sure of my plan regarding coming back - as I have received two doses of the vaccine (hooray, cancer! and hooray, special education!) - because I haven't spoken to my doctor or family about it definitively, but I hope we get a bit of a warning so I have time to make a thoughtful decision.
March is a big month of medical fun and I can't wait.  Stay tuned for some updates before April (I hope)!  And I promise to not play any weird April Fools jokes about cancer or covid or anything of the like.
*Bright Side:  NORMAL pelvic ultrasound!  Guys, I'm normal.  There's a first for everything.
*Dark Side: Diagnostically overwhelmed and still pandemicing. (Is that a word?)
*Next Steps:
3/1/21 - Lanreotide Injection #12
3/19/21 - Mammogram, Ultrasound of chest, CT scan
3/26/21 - Endometrial Biopsy
3/27/21-4/4/21 - SPRING BREAK, Y'ALL!

COVID-19 vaccine clinics closing temporarily in GTA amid shortage
Tumblr media
TORONTO — Hospitals networks across the Greater Toronto Area are adjusting the rollout of the COVID-19 vaccine and some are temporary closing immunization clinics due to a supply shortage.
The vaccine clinic at Trillium Health Partners hospital (THP) in Mississauga will close at the end of Friday. The hospital network says it is implementing direction from Ontario’s chief medical officer of health to expand the second dose interval for the Pfizer-BioNTech from 21 to 35 days.
“Long-term care and retirement home health care workers and THP staff, who have not already received their second dose, will be rescheduled from a 21-day to a 35-day interval,” Trillium Health said in a statement to CTV News Toronto.
Trillium Health Partners started administering the vaccine on Dec. 21 and by the end of Friday, more than 13,500 doses have been administered.
“I was bit teary when I heard I was going to be able to come under the wire, many of my colleagues don’t have that same opportunity,” registered nurse Samantha MacNeil said before receiving her second dose. “Definitely, I’m feeling much more protected and safer to come home to my family as well.”
The clinic is expected to reopen on Feb. 13, coinciding with the 35-day interval between doses.
The delays are due to Pfizer-BioNTech pausing production at a plant in Belgium in order to expand its manufacturing capacity.
The vaccine shortage has forced the province to refocus it’s distribution plan.
Other GTA hospital adjust rollout
William Osler’s vaccine clinic will temporarily close staring on Saturday and will reopen on Feb. 13 to administer second doses for health care workers to align with the new interval.
“As per the ministry’s most recent directive to extend the second dose interval from 21 to 35 days, all second dose appointments pre-scheduled at Osler from Jan. 30 onwards will be shifted to a 35-day interval,” William Osler Health System spokesperson Donna Harris said.
Since opening the clinic in December, Osler has administered more than 10,000 doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine.
Sunnybrook Hospital has been offering only second doses since Monday.
“As of tomorrow, we will be offering only second doses to residents in long-term care and high risk retirement homes,” said Criag DuHamel, vice president of communications and stakeholder relations.
DuHamel told CTV News Toronto the hospital has enough vaccine to get into next week, but the main challenge is having second doses for health care workers.
“We’re not sure yet when we’re going to be back online with those doses.”
MacKenize Health in York Region, paused first doses for the vaccine a week ago as per the provinces direction.
“Beginning Saturday, all patient-facing staff, physicians and active volunteers who have already received their first dose of the vaccine will have their second dose appointments rescheduled to adhere to the 35-day schedule as directed by the ministry of health,” Christina Cindric, Senior Communications consultant said in a statement.
For residents of long-term care, high-risk retirement and First Nations elder care homes, the dosing interval is maintained at 21 to 27 days.
According to the ministry of health, 327, 455 total doses have been administered and 61,679 people have been fully vaccinated.

Biden-Harris agenda set to confront these challenges
Thursday is the first full day of President Biden’s administration and with it he and Vice President Kamala Harris will face a litany of challenges both at home and abroad, and the reality that they are no longer on the campaign trail or in transition — they are the leaders of the free world.
The stakes are extraordinarily high — Biden, at age 78, now has a job notorious for aging those who hold it. The physical aging over eight years in his former running mate, President Obama, was stark, as was that for former President George W. Bush.
From establishing a functioning White House and redirecting executive agencies to carry out their visions, to dealing with menacing threats abroad, Biden and Harris face a number of obstacles.
Here are the top challenges Biden and Harris face on their first full day in office.
Coronavirus pandemic and vaccines
The biggest challenge that faced the Trump administration in its final year is not going away for the Biden administration. He acknowledged that in his inaugural address, calling for a moment of silence for those killed by the virus.

TRUMP LEAVES LETTER FOR BIDEN BEFORE DEPARTING WHITE HOUSE
More than 400,000 Americans have died from the virus and many businesses remain unable to fully open due to state government guidelines. Millions of Americans are still forced to work from home, and many others are unemployed.
With state governments eager to receive more doses of the various coronavirus vaccines, Biden will have to find a way to speed up what has been a lagging rollout of the United States’ vaccine program.
Biden promised that his administration will get “at least 100 million COVID vaccine shots into the arms of the American people in the first 100 days.” That will be a heavy lift.
Further, Biden recently rolled out an ambitious $1.9 trillion coronavirus package that he hopes to pass through Congress. Punchbowl News reported Wednesday that lawmakers are not sure they’ll be able to get that legislation to his desk until March.
That will only be the case, of course, if enough Republicans in the Senate decide not to filibuster the package. They wouldn’t give Trump the $2,000 coronavirus relief checks he sought, citing concerns about government spending.
Thin margins in Congress
Thin margins in Congress won’t just color Biden’s efforts to pass coronavirus relief, but just about everything he will do which involves the legislature.

That means executive nominations, judicial nominations, government funding and national security and more.
BIDEN HAS NOT HAD CONTACT WITH TRUMP AHEAD OF INAUGURATION, AIDE SAYS
Republicans picked up seats in the House during the November elections, shrinking the Democrat majority to what will be approximately a 10-seat advantage for the next two years.
That means Democrats can afford very few defections on major votes.
House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, D-Md., in December said that he was “certainly concerned” by some of Biden’s appointments of Democrat House members into his administration, thus slimming the Democrat majority even further. But he added that he believes Democrats will “be a very unified caucus as we were this past Congress” and be able to pass Biden’s agenda items.
In the Senate, Democrats picked up enough seats to gain what will be a de facto majority with 50 senators for each party and Harris able to break ties on votes that fall along party lines. She’ll have to be significantly more involved in the Senate’s affairs than most recent vice presidents for this reason.
The filibuster is likely to be a significant issue. Republicans will be able to block many items from passing in the Senate by withholding their support on cloture votes, which are procedural hurdles required to get to a final vote on a bill, and require 60 votes to pass.

Power-sharing negotiations between Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., and Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., were snagged this week as McConnell attempted to extract assurances that Democrats won’t get rid of the filibuster.
BIDEN TO SIGN 17 EXECUTIVE ACTIONS, ORDERS TO REVERSE TRUMP POLICIES, RESTORE OBAMA-ERA PROGRAMS ON FIRST DAY
“During today’s meeting, Leader McConnell expressed his long-held view that the crucial, longstanding, and bipartisan Senate rules concerning the legislative filibuster remain intact, specifically during the power share for the next two years,” McConnell spokesman Doug Andres said on Tuesday. “Discussions on all aspects of the power-sharing agreement will continue over the next several days.”
Building an administration
Biden during his transition already made a number of choices for his White House staff, with chief of staff Ron Klain and press secretary Jen Psaki among the highest-profile.
But a president is not just in charge of the White House but also the entire executive branch. That means Biden will also need to fill key national security and domestic Cabinet positions while also turning around staff at lower levels of executive agencies and steering them in the direction of his administration’s policy.
Tumblr media

One of Biden’s first actions is placing Department of Justice employee Monty Wilkinson in as acting attorney general, in place of Rod Rosenstein, who Trump selected as acting attorney general. Wilkinson will serve in the role until D.C. Circuit Court Judge Merrick Garland is confirmed by the Senate as attorney general.
The Senate is expected to confirm a handful of Biden’s other Cabinet picks immediately, including Janet Yellen, his pick for Treasury secretary.
One obstacle to this effort, however, is the upcoming impeachment trial for Trump, which may end with him being disqualified from holding office in the future.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., hasn’t yet sent the article of impeachment, accusing Trump of inciting an insurrection, to the Senate. This is likely to allow the Senate to quickly move on some of Biden’s less controversial cabinet appointments before it’s forced to take up the impeachment trial.
Biden previously suggested that the Senate could “go a half-day on dealing with impeachment, a half-day on getting my people nominated and confirmed in the Senate, as well as moving on the [Biden coronavirus] package.” But that would require an agreement from McConnell and Schumer, which has not yet materialized.
JOE BIDEN SWORN IN AS 46TH PRESIDENT, SAYS ‘DEMOCRACY HAS PREVAILED’ IN INAUGURAL ADDRESS
Debt and deficit
Trump leaves Biden with a hulking $27.8 trillion national debt after ballooning deficits and the debt even more than Obama did.
Now, with the pandemic still raging, Biden plans to spend even more on coronavirus relief while also planning for expensive initiatives on the climate and more.
Tumblr media

While Democrats are traditionally not concerned about deficit spending, Republicans have telegraphed that they will put a renewed emphasis on the issue during the Biden administration.
Senate Republican Whip John Thune, R-S.D., told The Hill in November that that cutting spending is “kind of getting back to our DNA… I would expect you’ll hear a lot more about that.” He also warned that he hopes the next president realizes “how serious the debt crisis is and how important it is that we put measures in place to address it.”
Addressing GOP deficit concerns could be key to Biden getting some of his larger agenda items passed.
China and Russia
After a campaign in which Biden was hammered on his son Hunter’s alleged business ties to China — and four years in which Trump was hammered for being Russia’s preferred candidate in the 2016 election — the reality is that the two authoritarian countries remain significant threats to American interests.
A months-long cyberattack by Russia on the U.S. was recently discovered, the extent of which is still likely not fully understood.
China is a threat to the United States economically, militarily in the South China Sea, in space, and in the Arctic. It’s also a global human rights threat — the State Department earlier this week declared China to be committing genocide in its persecution of the Uyghur Muslims.

Biden’s incoming secretary of state, Anthony Blinken, indicated in a confirmation hearing Tuesday that the Biden administration will keep up the Trump administration’s tough stance on China.
“President Trump was right in taking a tougher approach to China,” said Blinken, who served as then-Vice President Biden’s national security adviser before being elevated to deputy secretary of state under Obama. “Not the way he went about it in a number of ways, but the basic principle was right.”
Immigration and impending migrant caravan
Biden has promised to implement massive immigration reform, including a path to citizenship for 11 million illegal immigrants.
KAMALA HARRIS TAKES HISTORIC OATH, BECOMES NATION’S FIRST FEMALE, BLACK VICE PRESIDENT
“I’ve made it very clear, within 100 days, I’m going to send to the United States Congress a pathway to citizenship for over 11 million undocumented people,” Biden said in the second presidential debate. “And all those so-called Dreamers, those DACA kids, they’re going to be immediately certified again, to be able to stay in this country, and put on a path to citizenship.”
It’s not clear this will be able to be accomplished in Biden’s first 100 days, but during that time Biden will be forced to deal with a migrant caravan moving to America’s border from Central America.
On Friday, two groups of more than 3,000 Honduran migrants each pushed their way into Guatemala without registering as part of a larger caravan headed to the United States, the Associated Press reported. A third group entered Guatemala on Saturday. The migrants aim to reach Mexico and eventually make their way to the United States border.
Biden’s nominee to lead the Department of Homeland Security, Alejandro Mayorkas, was pressed on how he would handle the caravan during a confirmation hearing Tuesday by Sen. Mitt Romney, R-Utah.
“What is your intention with regards to that caravan, that is coming to our border. Is your intention to allow them just to come into our country? Will they be stopped?” Romney asked.

“When people present themselves at our border, we apply the laws of our nation and determine whether they qualify for relief under our humanitarian laws or whether they don’t,” Mayorkas said.
Romney responded that his answer appeared “uncertain.”
BIDEN ENTERS WHITE HOUSE WITH SLIGHT RISE IN POLL NUMBERS
“I apologize if I was uncertain. If people qualify under the law to remain in the United States, then we will apply the law accordingly. If they do not qualify to remain in the United States, then they won’t,” Mayorkas said.
Sharply divided country
With stark divisions among not just those in Congress but American citizens in general, Biden faces the herculean task of healing a nation where citizens not only don’t trust the government, but often don’t trust each other.
Biden addressed this task during his inauguration speech.
“We must end this uncivil war that pits red against blue, rural versus urban, conservative versus liberal,” Biden said.
He added: “With purpose and resolve we turn to the tasks of our time, sustained by faith, driven by conviction, devoted to one another and the country we love with all our hearts.”
Despite the fact that more than 100 House Republicans voted against certifying his election, he may have some help from a group of House freshmen Republicans.
“After two impeachments, lengthy inter-branch investigations, and, most recently, the horrific attack on our nation’s capital, it is clear that the partisan divide between Democrats and Republicans does not serve a single American,'” the group, which includes Reps. Jerry Carl, R-Ala.; Barry Moore, R-Ala.; Young Kim, R-Calif.; Peter Meijer, R-Mich.; Madison Cawthorn, R-N.C.; and others.
It continues: “We firmly believe that what unites us as Americans is far greater than anything that may ever divide us. In that spirit, we hope that we can rise above the partisan fray to negotiate meaningful change for Americans across the nation and maintain the United States’ standing as the best country in the world.”
Far-left of Democratic Party

Biden won’t only have to grapple with GOP resistance to his agenda, but with the left wing of his own party that wants to push him to be more ambitious.
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortex, D-N.Y., this week said that she disagrees with Biden’s “optimistic” view that he can work with Republicans.
“This is one area where I believe that there’s kind of a track record of some slight disagreement between the president-elect and myself, and I say that, you know — this is it, it’s not a fight – it’s just a disagreement,” she said in a virtual town hall. “I believe that President-elect Biden has a very optimistic view of the Republican Party. He, he has made statements on, you know, once Trump is gone, they will see the error of their ways. And I applaud his optimism but I disagree with his assessment.”

Ocasio-Cortez is the figurehead for “The Squad” of progressive Democrats in the House, and her mini-caucus just got bigger this year. Reps. Cori Bush, D-Mo., and Jamaal Bowman, D-N.Y., defeated moderate Democrats in primaries last year and figure to be vocal members of the House in the next year.
Energy and climate change
One of the priority issues for those “Squad” members is significant action on climate change. Biden has staked out a more moderate position.
Among the stances on climate that Biden has taken is one to “transition from the oil industry” without banning fracking — upsetting both those on the right and the left.
Biden also turned heads earlier this week when he announced his plan to kill the Keystone XL oil pipeline. This upset a number of Republicans from energy-rich states, including Rep Matt Rosendale. R-Mont.
“America’s energy sector is important to our economy and critical to our national security by helping make us energy independent,” he said in a statement Tuesday. “This pipeline means a lot for our country and Montana. As we are in the midst of great economic uncertainty, I encourage President-elect Biden to reverse his proposed decision to cancel the Keystone XL Pipeline and the thousands of good-paying jobs it will provide.”
Fox News’ David Spunt, Mike Emanuel, Morgan Phillips and The Associated Press contributed to this report.

almost goodbye 2020
i feel like a kid that doesn’t want their winter vacation to end. even though i’m not passionate about the work that i do, i really enjoy the amount of holidays + closures that we get. i’m sadly counting down the days to jan 4, when reality resumes.
it took a week for matt to recover, and for us to adjust to being together almost all day everyday at home. after our adjustment period, it was so lovely to be a “normal couple” for once. since moving here, i’ve been doing 95% of all the chores, grocery shopping, and cooking/cleaning while he’s hard at work. the second week of his easy rotation, he finally stepped up and it became more 50/50. he made prime rib for christmas (my first time ever having prime rib). the meat was very tender and tasty, but he oversalted the crust to the point where it was inedible.
we made hainan chicken together. we grocery shopped together. watched movies together. did chores together. played a board game for the first time. we went out to pick up food together - AND he wasn’t tired afterwards. normally, whenever we go out for 1-2 hours, he would feel exhaustion to the point of collapse and would beg to come home. he didn’t have the need to nap during the day for a whole week. it felt great to go out with and be with a well rested and sweet matt. it was a nice reminder of who he was pre-residency and i feel loved overall. he’s back on a regular rotation (12 hr shifts, 5 days a week) now, but will have a 3 day weekend for new year’s, and a weekend off next week. and then a vacation block! supposedly, they scheduled all the easier rotations together, but his schedule will be hell after march.
as a UCLA Health employee, i should be able to schedule an appointment for a vaccine fairly soon. 3 of my work friends have already received the green light and made appointments. matt and i booked a ticket to go home from 1/13 to 1/25. i’m hoping i can schedule the vaccine asap. if i’m able to get the vaccine, i’ll have to take a later flight back to NYC due to the 21 days between doses. my family seems semi excited for me to come home, but also not really due to covid haha. i’m still not sure how the logistics for it will work yet, but i’m excited for matt to finally meet my family.
december was a month when matt and i watched quite a few lesbian movies:
happiest season (8/10)
prom (5/10)
saving face (7.5/10)
the handmaiden (10/10)
plant updates: i have a total of 14 now and finally feel satisfied. i moved all except the corn plant to the window so that they can all get adequate (as much as a north facing window can provide) lighting. it seems most of my plants are doing not bad (except the corn plant). i had to snip off some yellow/dead leaves from my rubber plant, and one yellow leaf from my mini monstera. the app planta is great in reminding me when each plant needs watering. it also prompts me to take monthly progress photos and write comments. my stromanthe triostar actually grew a significant amount in a month.
workout: it helps a lot to have a workout buddy (thanks suze). during the break, we’ve been doing 45 min/3x a week. matt recently got a gym membership at our apartment. in normal times, the gym membership holder was able to bring a guest. now due to covid, it’s against the rules. i haven’t gone myself yet, but i’d like to start using the gym on the days that he doesn’t go to start running again. i’ve been focusing more on strength and toning that it seems my cardio health is sucking again. my heart rate climbs up very quickly and easily.
design: i’ve made some progress on my portfolio, i would say i’m 30-40% complete. i keep telling myself to just do something, even if it’s half-assed, or even if it’s not good. because having something there is better than nothing. i worked on my portfolio for a little bit before moving, but because i was so focused on perfecting things, i had little to show when i went back to start working on it again. i still need to make a logo for my dietitian friend, but have been putting it off for the same reason of my logo making skills not being good enough or perfect.
friends: i appreciate group zoom calls a bit more. we had a secret santa one with work friends who i’m not that close to. surprisingly i had a lot of fun playing among us with them and it was nice to talk to other people outside of matt. today, i had a semi impromptu zoom call with K, G, E, and J. we also played among us. it was a blast and so funny. i’m more comfortable around them. we played around 15 games and i was imposter only once. which is fine by me because it’s less nerve-racking lol.
i’ve never ever used a dishwasher prior to living here. i still feel weird/guilty whenever i want to run the dishwasher but am more comfortable with doing it more often now. apparently the cost of electricity it uses is quite low and we save water too.
this will be my first time spending NYE/NY in NYC. i can watch the ball drop in real time xD. i never make new years resolutions. i don’t see the purpose of it just because it’s a new year. however, in a little kickback i had for NY in 2019, my friends and i shared something we wished to do in 2020. i said “move out to NYC” and i’m happy that i went through with it.
