Ok ok so I'd been idly thinking about updating "Chats with Joker in Mementos" for Royal for a while, except as far as I know there aren't any transcriptions for the Royal Mementos chats like there is for Vanilla...
So...after some questionable use of my time, I now have a list of a good chunk of the starters in Royal. Only starters, not responses, since the point of the fic is having Joker be the one to respond, and I didn't transcribe ones I didn't think would be interesting for him to respond to, but still, if anyone does ever look to do a complete transcription, this might be helpful as a start? Or just interesting if you want to see what some characters talk about. Spoilers for third semester below cut.
Ryuji: Man, we really bust our asses to get stronger in here. I wish it meant we got stronger in the real world too.
Ryuji: Man, I had this horrible dream last night… Can’t remember a thing about it, though.
Ryuji: Ya know what? I guess Mona does have a mask, technically.
Ryuji: Yo, the way he jumps behind Shadows is so sick!
Ryuji: Yo, is it just me, or is fallin’ asleep getting tougher every night? At this point, I’m outta ideas of what to do.
Ryuji: Kinda fiendin’ for some ramen right about now… Maybe I’ll hit up Ogikubo when we get back.
RyujI: So lately, I’ve been tryin’ to work some training into my nightly routine before bed.
Ryuji: Hey, is it just me, or is Morgana’s sword basically the same size as Joker’s knife?
Ryuji: My mom made gyudon last night! My fave! Now I’ve got, like, fifty times more energy than usual!
Ryuji: This phantom thief stuff feels real as hell whenever he’s flyin’ around with that grappling hook.
Ryuji: Dude, that grappling hook is awesome! He looks like a freakin’ superhero with that thing!
Ryuji: Aww man, I just can’t get enough of those Akihabara maids…
Ryuji: Aren’t knives kinda hard to use ‘cause of their shortness? I definitely prefer my own shit.
Ryuji: I always thought darts looked easy—just aim for the board, y’know? But, it’s waaay harder than that.
Ryuji: Every try the monja in Tsukishima? That stuff is LEGIT.
Ryuji: Yo, does this outfit really make me look like I’m part of some biker gang?
-
Morgana: Listen, it’s not that I look like a cat. Cats just happen to look like me.
Morgana: I repeat: I am not a cat. To prove it, I took an actual bath yesterday.
Morgana: So, cats love to chase mice, right? I don’t get it—where’s the fun in that?
Morgana: I’m always so entranced by Panther’s whip technique!
Morgana: Panther, we have matching tails!
Morgana: You know, I’ve never actually been in a car before. Is it anything like I am now?
Morgana: I definitely made the right decision giving him the code name “Joker.”
Morgana: I’m willing to bet Joker’s skilled enough to use throwing knives.
Morgana: Anime, books, movies… Phantom thieves sure are popular.
Morgana: Last night I dreamt that Phantom Thieves were kicking some serious butt—let’s bring that dream to life!
Morgana: I can teach you everything you need to know about being a phantom thief. Relax—you’re in good hands!
Morgana: *yawn* I didn’t get enough sleep…
Morgana: I couldn’t fall asleep at all last night. I just laid there with my eyes open…
Morgana: I like Yongen-Jaya; it’s a great place for a stroll.
Morgana: Is Shujin Academy the only thing in Aoyama?
Morgana: I was vegetating in front of the TV last night, and I have to say, there are some pretty decent shows on now.
-
Ann: The bakery had a sale yesterday and I ended up buying everything they had!
Ann: The Ferris wheel is a must for me at theme parks, every time. I love being able to just relax.
Ann: I have an upcoming shoot at a theme park, but what sucks is how I can’t go on any of the rides.
Ann: Last night I dreamt I was eating a chocolate bar, then all of a sudden, it got mad and started chasing me!
Ann: Every once in a while I have a dream where I get chased by a Shadow…
Ann: I’ve been sleeping really well since I started getting all this exercise.
Ann: I was up late watching TV last night, so I might be a little sleep deprived…
Ann: I tend to do my clothes shopping in Kichijoji—it’s fun looking through all the resale shops.
Ann: I hate when people ask me to say stuff in English just ‘cause I lived overseas.
Ann: It always bothers me when foreign movie subtitles leave stuff out or take too many liberties.
Ann: I was talking to my overseas friend the other day—her straightforward attitude was really refreshing!
Ann: I was talking to Shiho on the phone and before I knew it, three whole hours had passed!
Ann: Joker seems like he’d make a good cook, doesn’t he? I mean, he’s great with his knife and all…
Ann: It’s actually quite exhilarating to attack with a whip. I wonder why that is…
Ann: Whenever my foreign relatives come to Japan, they always rave about how much they love Japanese food!
Ann: Do you think there’s anything I can do about my outfit? I feel like I stand out too much in this…
Ann: Is there a difference between a whip and a grappling hook?
Ann: Ya know, Skull’s always been into skull designs and stuff.
Ann: Wouldn’t a grappling hook be awfully handy in the real world?
-
Yusuke: I wish to paint the world as only I see it. The best way to succeed at this is through practice.
Yusuke: It’s fun to walk around and inspect different temples and shrines. The architecture is always impressive.
Yusuke: If Shadows are sentient, do you think their being moved by a painting would invoke a change of heart?
Yusuke: There have been times where I was compelled to create three-dimensional art.
Yusuke: I’m quite curious about Mona’s Western-style sword…
Yusuke: I hear whips are quite difficult to use. Where did you learn how to wield one?
Yusuke: Joker using a grappling hook…. That would make for a picture-perfect composition.
Yusuke: Mona, what exactly do you have in those pouches?
Yusuke: Creating a piece of art is pointless unless I can convey the full essence of the subject.
Yusuke: Art museums stimulate my creativity like no other place—I wish I could live inside one.
Yusuke: Skull and I both use long melee weapons, but they’re total opposites of one another.
Yusuke: Why does my outfit have a tail? I don’t understand…
Yusuke: I considered growing my own bean sprouts, but it seems to be more expensive than buying them grown.
Yusuke: I once had a dream that I washed up on a deserted island. I painted as much as I pleased… So wonderful.
Yusuke: I may specialize in Japanese-style painting, but I’d like to learn some Western techniques as well.
Yusuke: That grappling hook is very useful. I should find a way to utilize one in my daily life.
Yusuke: The other day, I went into the mountains to gather vegetables so I could cut back on food expenses.
Yusuke: I tried to paint a landscape of the starry sky once, but it’s quite difficult to do so from within the city.
Yusuke: India ink isn’t my specialty, but I’ve been experimenting with it in some recent work, just for fun.
-
Makoto: I may have stopped being a doormat for adults, but people are still calling me a “teacher’s pet.”
Makoto: A phantom thief’s body is their most vital asset. We need to make sure we eat balanced, nutritious meals.
Makoto: Do you enjoy visiting theme parks? I’ve rarely been to one myself.
Makoto: Fox looks cooler using his katana than I had originally imagined.
Makoto: I had the weirdest dream… I was at school, but I was wearing my phantom thief outfit.
Makoto: Would anyone care to learn how to drive, while we’re here? This place seems as good as any for practice.
Makoto: I know it’s not very healthy, but I do enjoy eating ramen from time to time.
Makoto: Once I’ve graduated, I’m going to buy a motorcycle and go on a road trip.
Makoto: I’ve been working on my grades because I still want to attend college, despite being a phantom thief.
Makoto: I want to read a certain book, but it’s out of print. Where do you suppose I could find a copy?
Makoto: Maybe I’m just burned out, but waking up has grown awfully difficult lately.
Makoto: The grappling hook’s cable seems pretty strong, but it’s scary to think what could happen if it snapped.
Makoto: Once my sister brought home some sushi for me. It was indescribably good…
-
Futaba: I heard rhythm’s an important part of fighting, sooo… I started playing a rhythm game!
Futaba: There’s going to be an event tonight in the MMO I play. I can’t wait!
Futaba: This MMO I’m hooked on is really cool. Do you wanna play with me? Oh—it’s in English, though.
Futaba: I’m about to beat the game I’ve been playing. Wonder what I should play next?
Futaba: I’ve been going outside a lot more, so now I’m sleeping way better than I did when I was a shut-in.
Futaba: Guess what? I’m making a game called “Hungry Hungry Mona”!
Futaba: You know who’s a really good driver, is Sojiro. He can parallel park with his eyes closed!
Futaba: If you could shoot grappling hooks from your hands, you’d probably be able to get around just using those!
Futaba: Ya know, I’ve thought about workin’ out and fighting alongside you guys.
Futaba: You guys should try playing shooters! It could help you improve your gun skills.
Futaba: Last night I had a dream my hard drive failed… That was scary.
Futaba: Wouldn’t it be cool if you could mod the grappling hook so it was electrified?
Futaba: Sure, the internet’s convenient, but it’s not like it can do everything. Don’t overestimate its capabilities.
Futaba: I wonder if I’d be okay going to some place by myself if it wasn’t crowded. Inokashira Park seems nice.
Futaba: Yesterday Sojiro bought me my favorite instant yakisoba!
Futaba: Maybe I should get a gun too, just for self-defense… Nah, my hands need to be empty.
-
Haru: I found this cafe in Kichioji with phenomenal tea—would you care to try it sometime?
Haru: I ordered kusaya but they refused to make it—they said they couldn’t get the smell out of the kitchen.
Haru: I feel like I need to learn more about the world, but I’m not sure how to best go about it.
Haru: Recently, I’ve been finding rare delicacies rather enticing…
Haru: Even lately, I sometimes dream about doing phantom thief things with Mona.
Haru: If you’re having trouble getting yourself to relax, I recommend herbal tea.
Haru: Asakusa is a wonderful area—I love how it’s this blend of the old and the new.
Haru: Ever since I started high school I’ve been taking the train in the morning, but I’m still not used to it…
Haru: Queen, your mask looks like it’s made of iron. Doesn’t it get heavy?
Haru: Joker’s so acrobatic! He’s really got the hang of that grappling hook.
Haru: I don’t think I’ve gotten this much exercise since I was in ballet.
Haru: Let me know if you ever get a tear in your clothing—I’m good at sewing, so I could most likely fix it.
Haru: I dreamt that the vegetables I’d been growing all died… I was so sad.
Haru: Your weapon seems fun, Skull. Do you want to swap sometime?
Haru: Sometimes it’s impossible for me to fall asleep on days that we’ve been to Palaces, no matter how tired I am.
Haru: You know, before this, I’d never considered using an axe for anything other than chopping firewood…
Haru: My hands have gotten all calloused… I supposed it comes with the territory in gardening.
-
Akechi: I have no intention of changing my stance on matters, no matter what anyone may say.
Akechi: Pancakes... I don’t want to hear that word again for a long, long time.
Akechi: We don’t have much time left. Please do what you can to avoid getting sick.
Akechi: The enemies are stronger than ever. Don’t let your guard down.
Akechi: A world that panders to your every whim is so mundane. Where’s the thrill if there’s no competition?
Akechi: Do you prefer my previous outfit or this one? Moving around’s become much easier for me.
Akechi: This place is immense. If there weren’t train tracks everywhere, I’d bring my bike here.
Akechi: We’re working under the constraints of a time limit, so I’d appreciate it if you could be more efficient.
Akechi: If you’re looking for a way to train both your mind and your body, I highly recommend bouldering.
Akechi: You think I’m frightening when I fight? Well, I’m afraid you’re just going to have to accept it.
Akechi: I meant to tell you, regarding Shido… Thank you for keeping your promise.
Akechi: You may not like working with me, but I’m counting on your assistance until our goal is achieved.
Akechi: When we’re riding in the car like this, it’s easy to forget that we’re actually inside Mona.
Akechi: The Shadows here behave differently from the ones in the Palaces, don’t they?
Akechi: I’m getting a bit hungry. I should’ve eaten beforehand.
Akechi: I enjoy spending time in Kichijoji. It’s not very big, but there are plenty of trendy shops.
Akechi: Riding in the car may beat walking, but it doesn’t stop my legs from growing stiff and sore…
-
Sumire: I have a few different superstitions for good luck in my routines… They get sort of hard to drop.
Sumire: It was already hard for me to believe Palaces existed, but to think there’s such a massive one under Shibuya…
Sumire: It’s a bit cramped in here with this many people…
Sumire: I get stiff all over from just sitting in the car.
Sumire: Why is the one desert you get to eat during the week so delicious?
Sumire: A phantom thief outfit represents a person’s image of their rebellion, right?
Sumire: I wonder if I should try incorporating another sport into my gymnastics training.
Sumire: I wonder what I could use as inspiration for my performances…
Sumire: Swords are actually pretty hard to wield.
Sumire: Whenever I travel, I always end up buying some sort of good luck charm.
Sumire: Your outfits are all so unique. I can see coordinating them wasn’t a priority.
Sumire: This time of year, a heating pad’s an absolute must for keeping warm.
Sumire: Sometimes people will just walk up to me and ask me to show them a standing split.
Sumire: I’m in top shape today! Let’s keep going.
Sumire: Do you all stretch beforehand? You could pull a muscle if you don’t.
Sumire: It’s too bad gymnastics competitions aren’t on TV more often.
Sumire: Fighting makes for a pretty good workout, doesn’t it?
-
while I didn't transcribe responses, I did notice something a bit disappointing: neither Sumire nor Akechi seemed to have responses for anyone else. It's possible I missed one?? But not being able to remember any, they must not have many if they do have some. A bit odd.

What's this? Just a little nothing I did tonight to test out my new tablet! In celebration of Sasuke's birthday earlier this week I did my OT3 SasuNaruSaku. It's really small, since l haven't figured out how to crop pictures probably yet xD
Pose is @mcnuggyy, thank you for the amazing OT3 prompts, I did the A-row a while ago, might upload those too, if I ever feel like it!

I'm coping, okay? XD
Spent the rest of my evening after crying over aot ending doing this - a reimagination of the famous Obito-Kakashi panel as LeviHan. Hope you like it, I like it might color it tonight (it was suddenly past 12 when the line art was done). Have a nice day 😭

Some shower thoughts on Mikasa Ackerman behind the cut:
I saw that a lot of (Mikasa) fans are disappointed in the way the story concluded for Mikasa, that she had no real development and overall deserved better. I kinda agree on the last point, of course she deserved better, don’t we all? But life just sometimes isn’t fair and you loose your soulmate at the age of 19. What I really hate is that people are blaming her for being on her loved ones grave on the anniversary of his death. I don’t know if those people have ever lost somebody dear to them and everyone grieves differently and nobody is to judge that. But being on the grave of your loved one on their death anniversary, their birthday and other important days is the most natural thing in the world for me. We sadly don’t get an insight on what Mikasa is doing with her time now. I’m not sad that she went back to Paradis to live whatever life she’s leading there. Who knows? She probably has some sense in her life other than grieving Eren all day. Maybe she‘s helping Historia with the orphanage? There probably are a lot of new orphans after the rumblings and the connected riots. And who knows, I mean Armin, Jean and the others are coming back to Paradis now. What I see for a good sign is, that she grew her hair out. It was Eren who told her to cut it and so she did when she probably preferred it long. Don’t you think she looks painfully much like the woman in Jean’s vision? Who knows, that might be her future once her comrades come back to the island. I can very well see Jean (who gussied himself up on the boat, I mean come on, he’s not really doing it for those school girls, is he?!) meeting Mikasa after three years and again complimenting her on her hair like he did back when they were trainees. Will Mikasa ever truly get over Eren? Probably not but it’s just like that sometimes when you loose someone. Some people never get over their one true love but it didn’t work out with them and they still manage to start a new life with somebody else, love them and dedicate their hearts to them. Why not Mikasa? We will never know because Isayama choose not to show us Mikasa meeting her mates again three years later. You can make of this ending whatever you want. But you shouldn’t be so negative and accuse Mikasa (and in return Isayama) to have no development and be sad about her. I think Mikasa was one of Isayama’s favorite characters (I read so somewhere) so do you really think he would give her a sad ending? I don’t think so. Mikasa’s happy ending is there somewhere in the future. I’ll be in whatever way she imagines her life since she’s a strong and independent woman. But three years after loosing your most beloved person is not that much. She has the right to still grieve. But she’ll stand up and look into a bright future that Eren has created for her and I think that’s beautiful.
Thanks for listening to my stupid shower thoughts once more!

Do Not Stand At My Grave And Weep
by Mary Elizabeth Frye
Tumblr media
Do not stand at my grave and weep I am not there; I do not sleep.
Tumblr media
I am a thousand winds that blow,
Tumblr media
I am the diamond glints on snow,
Tumblr media
I am the sun on ripened grain, I am the gentle autumn rain.
Tumblr media
When you awaken in the morning's hush I am the swift uplifting rush Of quiet birds in circled flight. I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Tumblr media
Do not stand at my grave and cry, I am not there; I did not die.

WCIF?
I've found a copy of this reeeeally detailed Sim Tracker in my google docs last night. It's like really detailed and calculates everything you can think about (and more) and even gives you such cool graphics at the end. Of course I had to do this for Planet Alades (I love shreasheets, bear with me) but now I can't remember where I got that doc from? It was already a copy of the original, so it doesn't show me the OP. The file is called Sim Tracker v1.8 - Blank. I wish I knew who was so detailed to do this spreadsheet and if there are some explanations for some functions (it's really a lot, guys!). Does anyone remember a thing liks this? I could add pics if someone wanted.

Nah-nah-nah! Riot Ink business caaaards! *heehee*
I'm okay, really.
I am headachey!!! As Amy would say... my head is doing the achey brakey dance of PAIN. So, I imagine I will get nothing done in class. Ms. Fotinos is gonna kill me for skipping anyway... *sighs*
Querida! I shall continue my efforts to make dad buckle!!
Meagen-san.... really, I know what you mean. Technically, I can draw, but I kinda lack depth in my art (from what I can see). There are very few pictures that turn out with the emotion or realism I want them to come out with..... and funny enough, that kyara that I tend to make look how I want is good ol' Lucas.
Lucas: What can I say? I'm perfect. *mutters* Yeah, right...
And yes, you're getting fanart. Now if only I can manage to scan it....
Meg's Art Corner! Raphael-chan, or as I refer to him in RPs, Lian's Rukura. This is a fine example of what I draw in math class on scrap paper. And querida? It's not THAT good. ^##^;;;;
That's all from me!
Over an' out!
( 10:48 PM )   Of course my idea is good, querida! I'm so smart after all! *tosses away IQ test scores that say only 142* Lucas with blue hair.... streaked with green!!!!!! Yeeaaah, baby!       ( 3:23 PM )   Warning, incoming rant!
STUPID! GODDAMN FLIPPIN' STUPID!! What a GOOD way to get yourself killed! Doing f*cking drugs! STUPID STUPID!!! Goddamn it! I mean, pot, okay that's bad. Bad and STUPID. But 'shrooms?!! HOT DAMN IS THAT STUPID!! And not only that, getting yourself into a situation where you get thrown out of your mom's house?! F*cking stupid! *fumes*
(note: never mind, needed to vent.... friend issues)
( 2:00 PM )   At home and skipping civics class.... *whistles and rocks back on her heels* 9.9
You know what's scary? It's scary when a dood whom you eat lunch with even jokes about wanting to rape you. That's scary. Even scarier is when he pins you against the wall and you have to fight him off, and when he comes back, your best (guy) friends beat the living sh*t out of him. Not quite sure what to make of this.... big super duper hugs and thank yous to Mike and Matt, my new bodyguards. Dan, touch me again, and they'll kill you for sure. I'll see to it. *sweet smile*
( 7:32 AM )   Morning blog!
Querida: Yep, the Mark plot is similar to our dj idea... except a bit more profound. *heh* And seriously, tho, a good plot would be something to the effect of Mark goes baaaad-niichan and tries to end the world, and you gots to stop him. There's a plot. Hooray for plots! Cam's efforts on trying to get Mark to put some sort of value on his own body should start working someday. I mean, HOW many times has Cam explained it? Not to mention, Mark has a nice idea of how Cam thinks now that he's been inside his mind. Mark-niichan's a slut.... but I love him anyway!
Cam: *pounds the living daylights out of Meg for calling Mark such a thing*
*heeheehee* Animal comparisons! *heehee* I gotta try that! Rukura = gecko Poya = otter Yuken = viper Lucifer = duck Michael = horse Zachariah = pot-bellied pig (personality wise) Gabriel = peacock Kanson = crocodile (someone patch in a call to australia, let's get the Crocodile Hunter in here, please... *crosses fingers*)
Meagen-san: I'm working on a fanart for you of SailorM. I shall prolly CG it tonight or tomorrow, okie?
School blows! I don't wanna go to school! WAH!
over and out.
( 6:35 PM )   For fun, and just to annoy him... Rukura's stats!
Name: Raphael Harrison Nickname: Rukura Age: 17 Date of Birth: February 28th Hair: purple Eyes: green Height: 6'4 Occupation: student Descent: Angel Family: human family includes Jacob [father, deceased] and Mary-Anne [mother, deceased]. Original family includes Kanson [father], Europa [mother, deceased], and Uriel {Yuken} [half-brother] Friends: Lucifer, Pandora {Poya}, Michael, Zachariah Current Residence: Atlanta, Georgia Likes: music, reading, daydreaming, being anti-social Dislikes: homework, unwanted attention, medication, and fighting Skills: singing, getting weirdly good grades Setbacks: has a rather serious heart condition, which despite medication and various attempts, is damn near impossible to treat, suicidal, and generally miserable Notes: reincarnation of the Messiah. Human mother died in childbirth, human father committed suicide a few months later. Is considered a "problem child", as he usually gets into fights at school. Been shifted around to foster homes all his life, never staying in one particular home longer than 1 1/2 years. Most recent foster family died in a car crash, leaving him the only living "relative" to claim his foster father's fortune. Lives alone.
( 6:24 PM )   Chris-kun: Dood, a meant the person playing as being Mark... ^__^;;
Meg-chan's on net restrictions, lalalalala... she's gonna get in trouble if she gets caught on the internet, lalalalala... she's rewriting stats for LotM, lalalalala.... she's TOO attached to Raphael-chan, lalala--
Rukura: *belts Meg in the head* Don't call me that! Meg: It's your legal name, isn't it? I like it better 'an Rukura...
Dan wants me to hit him. In the eeeeeew kinda way. Do I really come across as that much of a dom? @_@
( 7:16 AM )   Morning blog!
This is bound to be a short enrty, as mom is home. Sooo...
I had a really funky dream last night, but I don't remember it. All I remember is waking up a lot, upset, and trying to recall where I was. Bennett was curled up to me most of the night (good spiritie dood ^_^), but I don't think it helped much.... ah, well, it's the thought that counts.
Yesterday, I blew $44 on prismacolor pens. I got the box set of cool greys, plus a replacement 60% warm grey as mine is running out. That's me broke for another month now.
BMB is cuuuuuute today. *giggles* I want my verra' own Mik! I *heartheart* Mik! Rach, you better get me a Mik for my birthday! Or else!
I can't draw worth beans lately. *cries*
to Chris-kun: Thanks for the comment on the layout... and maybe now I'll bug querida to do an AH game (I honestly didn't think about that @_@).
*ponders* Yeah, you could go arouns as Mark in the game, and you could sleep with every second person you run into---
Cam: SHUT UP! *thwacks Meg* Meg: Hey, it's not my fault that your hubby is a total sl--- Cam: *throws a table at Meg* Meg: Itaaaai. X_X
Otaaay, enough out of me. Over and out.
( 11:44 PM )   Hal is GOD... lalalala! Hal is thy holy master!       ( 11:27 PM )   Purple is a nice colour! It's the colour of hentai. ^__^;       ( 12:30 AM )   BEHOLD THE NEW LAYOUT!!!
....very purple, isn't it?
( 3:58 PM )   This close >< to shooting myself...       ( 3:56 PM )   I WILL get this to work.... I swear I will.       ( 3:53 PM )   HTML is annoying. Background image, where are you?       ( 3:50 PM )   Let's hope for the background image now.... *crosses fingers*       ( 3:45 PM )   Playing with the layout...       ( 3:25 PM )   This is the temp layout, as I'm altering this puppy to look how I want it to. New version should be up tonight.       ( 2:43 PM )   Chris-kun: the Boa cd has two names. One is the japanese release, the other is for the international market. It's either called Race of the Thousand Camels or Twilight (like this here blog!). And the Limp Bizkit cd is called Chocolate Starfish and the Hot Dog Flavoured Water. And Hannibal is a lot different than the Silence of the Lambs, isn't it? I liked it, but I stand by the fact that Jodie Foster made a much better Clarice Starling than Julianne Moore could ever hope to be.
Anyway.
My Bennett still isn't home... Dora, is he still with you? If not, you'd think he'd be home by now... *sighs*
Okay, time for me to book it outta' here for a bit afore dad calls and has a fit 'cause the line is busy.
( 8:05 PM )   Interlude...
Meg: Cain and Yuken! KAWAII!!!! Yuken: *giggles and twitches his neko-mimi, looking all innocent* Rukura: ICK! Who the HELL would touch HIM!? *points at Yuken* Meg: Well, you 'touched' him once... Rukura: NOT BY CHOICE, GODDAMMIT!! .... *sneezes* Yuken: *eyes Rukura venomously* Rukura: I'll be running off to Lian now... *heads for the hills as fast as his (verra' long) legs can carry him*
( 8:00 PM )   Querida, thank goodness it's not bronchitis. That's something I get a LOT, and it's not fun at all. And ten pounds? ALRIGHT! You GO, girlfriend!! *tackleglomps* You'll be okay.... I know so! ^.^
I got the "Play" cd (Moby), which came with the edit of South Side for free. Bonus, baby! ^_____^
( 7:24 AM )   Morning blog!
Well, I feel mighty stupid this morning. Yesterday, I kinda pulled a muscle in my left leg (riiight in my calf), but it stopped hurting. Woke up from a funky dream and got up to find it hurt. Now, being the idiot I am and not usually restricted by physical pain (hey, that's what ended up breaking my ankle), I went for a shower. Feeling headachey and cramped, I worked my way down the stairs, only to pull the same muscle again and fall about halfway down and land on the cat at the bottom. ^___^;;; <---- feels very dumb
*falls over* Meagen-san, you had me scared a minute there! If you had MEANT Mark, I would have had to call in paramedics and stuff to make sure you weren't doped up on anything!!!! @_@
List of kyara and colours this blog is gonna be themed on in order of layout updates: Cam/purple (this weekend, hopefully) Lucas/red (whenever) Mark/blue (whenever) Sybandial/pink (whenever) Jesse/green (whenever)
Each layout will have a background featuring the kyara, too! ^_^
I really need a life. Over and out!
( 9:51 PM )   Song lyrics... one of Cam's most recent themes! "Learn to Fly" by the Foo Fighters
Run and tell all of the angels This could take all night Think I need a devil to help me get things right
Hook me up a new revolution Cuz this one is a lie We sat around laughing And watched the last one die
I'm looking to the sky to save me Looking for a sign of life Looking for something to help me burn out bright I'm looking for a complication Looking cuz I'm tired of lying Make my way back home when I learn to fly
I'm done nursing the patience I can wait one night I'd give it all away if you'd give me one last try We'll live happily ever trapped if you'd just save my life Run and tell the angels that everything's all right
I'm looking to the sky to save me Looking for a sign of life Looking for something to help me burn out bright I'm looking for a complication Looking cuz I'm tired of trying Make my way back home when I learn to fly Make my way back home when I learn to
Fly along with me, I can't quite make it alone Try to make this life my own Fly along with me, I can't quite make it alone Try to make this life my own
I'm looking to the sky to save me Looking for a sign of life Looking for something to help me burn out bright I'm looking for a complication Looking cuz I'm tired of trying Make my way back home when I learn to
Looking to the sky to save me Looking for a sign of life Looking for something to help me burn out bright I'm looking for a complication Looking cuz I'm tired of trying Make my way back home when I learn to fly Make my way back home when I learn to fly Make my way back home when I learn to...
( 7:06 PM )   Tay, I've decided the theme for my next layout... good ol' Bennett and the colour purple. How... fitting. ^__^
Now if only I can get this stupid HTML editor thing to work... *binks it*
( 11:05 AM )   Morning blog (late again)!
WHOO HOO! I GOT INTO THE ADVANCED VISUAL ART STUDIO CLASS!!! BIG HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA ON MR. HALL!!!!
Yeaaah, I just went to first period class this morning and got my classes for next year reviewed. Then I came home because the muscles in my abdomen are spasming and it hurts like bugger all.
To all my blogging friends; I'm gonna change the layout of this blog in the next week (I have a LOT of links to add). I'm gonna theme it around an AH kyara, so lemme know who you think would be best, please. Just post your opinion in your blog, as I read most of them daily anyway. ^__^;
( 8:23 PM )   Yeah, I've neglected my duties as a blog-person lately... I have a life, you know. (Hey, the LEAST you can do is smile and nod! T_T)
Not much is happening, really. My civics class keeps getting cancelled, so I think I'll skip it tomorrow and come home early. What else to say...? Ummm, not much.
Song of the moment: "The Kids Aren't Alright" by the Offspring. I'm on a REAL Offspring kick right now... dunno why exactly. Maybe 'cause they just amuse me. ^_^;
Grammy awards. Bleeeek. *makes a face*
Amy, kids who don't like cheese are stupid! HA HA!
( 3:33 PM )   ...afternoon.... blog!
This morning I spent the whole time trying to get my scanner to work, so thus, no morning blog. But I've got some stuff say for a change!
Today, lunch period was spent bothering Dan for the most part. He really ticked me off yesterday, and I'm extracting my revenge. So, I was making him jealous by glomping Matt at every opportunity (Matt doesn't mind too much, and he's nice to hug 'cause he's always warm.... and no, Mike, he's not my boyfriend! JUST A FRIEND!! T_T). It was rather comical. Civics class was cancelled, since Ms. Fotinos was at the Raptor's game with the people who signed up to go... the half of my class that was at school for the last three periods of the day got transferred to a Grade 12 geography class, in which was SO awkward that the teacher took pity on us and sent us all home. Redoing Angel Hunter again. This time, on the right sized paper... I'm sticking with the page layouts, tho, as I think I've got the look I want.
And, for fun! Rukura's theme song lyrics!
Home by Depeche Mode
Here is a song from the wrong side of town Where I'm bound to the ground by the loneliest sound That pounds from within and is pinning me down
Here is a page from the emptiest stage A cage or the heaviest cross ever made A guage of the deadliest trap ever laid
And I thank you for bringing me here For showing me home, for singing these tears Finally I've found that I belong here
The heat and the sickliest sweet smelling sheets That cling to the backs of my knees and my feet I'm drowning in time to a desperate beat
And I thank you for bringing me here For showing me home, for singing these tears Finally I've found that I belong...
Feels like home I should have known From my first breath
God sent the only true friend I call mine Pretend that I'll make amends the next time Befriend the glorious end of the line
And I thank you for bringing me here For showing me home, for singing these tears Finally I've found that I belong here.
( 7:11 AM )   Morning Blog!
This song is tripping me out right now, but goddamn, do I love it! *grooves to "Home" by Depeche Mode* It's a really dramatic song... and it's sooooo making me think of Rukura. >_<;
It's very cold this morning. At least I think so, anyway, so I'm sitting here wearing the couch blanket as a cape. I feel like a doooork.
Meg's Art Corner (Freckle-chan, you copycat! T_T)
A special little picture; Lucas in his newest style of dress. Drool factor, out of 10? 12.
What else to say... ummm... Mom didn't leave me lunch money again. T_T;
Over and out!
( 2:12 PM )   Cam: EVERYONE RUN WHILE YOU CAN!!!! THE END IS NEAR!!!!!
....yep, for the first time in YEARS, I'm the proud owner of twp pairs of blue jeans. I've not worn blue jeans since I was about 5... and these ones fit niiiiice. I have hips and a waist.... @__@
Anyway, mom and I went to Sears and then to Curry's Art Supplies. I got my two pairs of jeans, two men's dress shirts (one white, one black), a new sketchbook, 4 new warm grey prismacolors, and a new 05 pigment pen. I am a happy Meg-chan!
Blue jeans that fit... *in shock*
( 9:09 PM )   I have officially started rewriting the Chronicles of Benjamin Carter! WHIHAI! Here's a bit of what I've written so far.
Frail. Benjamin was frail. He was about 5'4, fifteen years of age, and pale. He was small and slight in build; a boy and not yet a man. Right now, he looked more fragile than he really was... curled up under the blankets of his rather small bed, bruised and crying. It was a familiar scene.
Benjamin wiped at his eyes with the back of his hand in a vain attempt to push the tears away. However, it was pointless since more just spilled down his cheeks as if to spite him and his efforts to stop them. He hated crying. Hated it. But at times like this --- only at times like this--- he couldn't help himself. He was so tired of being forced into the clutches of rich men; predators that liked their pleasure taken out on the young boys who could be bought if the price was right. He was sick of the violation and the abuse. Most of all, he was sick of his father pushing him into it. His own father. He hiccupped in his efforts to restrain his tears.
Benjamin wanted more than anything to run away. Run away to another city, another country, anywhere but where he was. Just out of the clutches of the people who hurt him so much. But he was trapped like the birds his father kept in the iron cages that lined the back yard. He was a prisoner, shackled to the bars of his perpetual cage. Derkshaw would catch him if he ran. Derkshaw always caught him.
"Damn him to hell," Benjamin thought bitterly, though he regretted thinking it for reasons he couldn't quite explain.
There was a tap of boots in the hallway, and Benjamin closed his eyes, breathed deeply, and pretended to be asleep. The heavy, even steps stopped outside his door. The door squeaked as it opened slightly.
Benjamin tried to keep his breathing slow and deep, tried not to flinch. He felt Derkshaw's gaze on him. It burned.
'Go away, papa, go away....'
The door opened a bit more, and the tap of boots carried into the room.
It would be a good half hour before Derkshaw left, the blood on his hands and shirt not his own.
( 2:28 PM )   Man, am I grateful for mom. She just brought me the most wonderful little care packet of a bottle of ibuprofen and a Terry's Dark Chocolate Orange bar. *sniffles happily* Thank you, mommie!
Amy, Amy, Amy.... you have no idea how much stress is gone already. *heavy sigh* I can't thank you enough.
Spellleeeeeeerrrr, next weekend is go for coming over to my house to watch movies! You like freaky movies, I'll make you watch freaky ANIME movies! On the roster so far: Perfect Blue and X. Maybe I'll make a trip to Roger's Video and snag Devil Man or something. But I will get you hooked. I will. Your time will come (*sings* thy will be done!).
*laughing at BMB* Yeah, Mik, you dirty minded cutie! You think those nasty thoughts about Harley! *laughing*
Oiiii, Freckle-chan... you posted a nice list of couples you like. I think for fun, I'll do the same!
Cardcaptor Sakura Touya and Yukito - kawaii! KAWAII!!!! Sakura and Tomoyo - so sue me!
Oh My Goddess! Trobadour and Urd - they were cool! Too bad he's such a dork. Keiichi and Belldandy - well, DUH!
Magic Knight Rayearth Ascot and Umi - I'm a sucker for Ascot. What a little cutie! Clef and Presea - ditto that, 'cause Clef is so cute and so short!
Dragon Half Mink and Lufa - not likely, I know, but still.
Bakuretsu Hunter Tira and Carrot - feh on Chocolate. She's not half as cool as Tira. Marron and Gateau - I don' like Gateau too much, but Marron is so hot. *_*
Ranma 1/2 Ranma and Shampoo - not likely, either, but I think Mousse is too wussy for her. I've always been a Ranma/Shampoo 'shipper.
Shamanic Princess Kagetsu and Tiara - it's a sad relationship... Sarah and Tiara - um, don't ask.
Slayers Lina and Gourry - he's so funny around her... ^__^
Sailor Moon Usagi and anyone but Mamoru! T_T; Chibi Usagi and Pelulu [Perelu, Perele] - *heehee* Cute fae-ish boy with white hair!
Neon Genesis Evangelion Shinji and Asuka - I think she really does like him. She just doesn't know how to show it. Misato and Koji - funny funny! She's a player, tho.
RPing kyara [involving mine] Cam and Mark - for obvious reasons. Rukura, Lian, and Gabby - yes, a yaoi threesome. They're all so cute. Sola [Soren] and Sybandial - so innocent and sweet. ^_^ Jyrian and Quoik - I don't talk about these two much, but their relationship is really cute. Jesse and Rach - how can I not like this? He's cute, she's cute (haha, Rach!) Lucas and Lila - I liked this possibility... too bad she's dead and we won't find out what woulda' happened. Lucas and Carter - this is a slightly more demented relationship. Cadence and Lexiel - a more intellectual relationship... even if Lexiel is kinda big on sex for sick reasons. ^_^; Cadence3 and Cam - I'm a sick, sick girl. Lucifer and Setsuko - if we get Setsuko back, then we can resume this. They're cute too. ^_^
Other Stories Kiih and Ro (from Dora's "Three O'Clock") - I don't really know why... these two just kinda hit it off in my mind. Len and Yuri (see above) - ditto the above again.
Book Series Ron and Hermione - need I explain? Sirius and Remus - again, need I explain? Lestat and Louis (Anne Rice's VC books) - strange but yummy relationship Lestat and David - intellectual and alluring. Marius and Amadeo - Stokholm syndrome. Cal and Meg (A Wrinkle in Time) - KAWAII!
That's that done. ^__^;
( 10:41 PM )   Sap warning ahead!
I have the best best friends in the whole world! My best friends are Speller and Amy!
Speller, who I know I don't mention on here too much (I'm sorry! ;_;), is the smartest person I know. She's also one of the most talented writers, too. How many people can write a whole novel before/during high school? Aside from Amelia Atwater-Rhodes, not many. And her poetry kicks ass! She has a lot of it published. She can also draw better realistic stuff than I can, which makes me mondo jealous. It's not fair, I tell you! And she must learn to watch out for Hannibal. Beware him. Speller likes pudding. And pears. Damn those pears.
Amy and I have been friends since 7th grade, when she was the "new kid". We actually first met in drama class. She ran over a possum on her way to work. Yeeeah! She, too, is an amazing writer. It's not FAIR! She came runner up in the story writing contest a while back. I was proud. And I SCREEEEEEAMED the loudest when she won the Todd Bayless award. I live to embarrass.... ^_~
I am grateful to have such good friends. I love them. This concludes the sap. ^___^;
( 9:04 PM )   Querida, you're cooler than Simon and Milo! (Personally, Milo's a tad too butch for my liking, but Simon is a cute little brit guy with the sweetest little sentiments!) ....anyway.... yes, you have a neck. I hope. ^_~
And to complete the phrase you know you have problems when...you obsess over a cartoon with no neck, no nose, and huge eyes!
( 7:29 AM )   Morning blog!
I watched Perfect Blue last night. It downright scared me! Seeing Hannibal didn't scare me, seeing the Rage; Carrie 2 didn't scare me.... but Perfect Blue DID. The "real Mima" (the one who's forever in the Cham costume) is SCARY!!! And the Mimaniac is pretty scary too. o_O Iffen you haven't seen this movie, get it. Especially if you like stuff like Neon Genesis Evangelion, X, or Serial Experiments Lain. I warn you, there's nudity, a rape scene, and a lot of gore. This movie freaked me out more than Eva did.
In other news... going to the art store tomorrow!!! And, I'm also skipping 5th period today. Maybe even 3rd, 'cause I'm stuck doing NOTHING all class anyway. -_-;
Hopefully they have the 10x15 paper I want... 'cause, you know, that being the traditional dimensions for comic drawing. Y'all knew that, right? *gives you a loooooook*
And I best be off to get ready... JA!
( 7:02 PM )   Blogger hates me.
OH! OH! EVERYONE GO READ TODAY'S BMB!!! CY AND SKIDS FOREVERRRRR!!!!
I'm having a hell of a lucky streak this week. Today, in the mail, I got an AUTOGRAPHED Simon and Milo picture, FRAMED!!! *swoons*
And I got Perfect Blue!!!!
( 5:14 PM )   Gonna go see Hannibal with Mike and Chris in about half an hour! ^__^       ( 7:21 AM )   Morning Blog!
Last night, began a really angsty RP with Cam and Mark (well, it was angsty on Cam's end). Now, I only just realized that I think up really weird stuff that follow pretty much all the major time/space/reality laws. And all on a whim and at random. It's strange. You know you study this stuff too much when.... Yep, it's not every day when I come up with plots like that puppy. Using the imprints left in the reality weave to reconstruct a Mark.... that's some strange stuff (but it actually makes sense, which is what throws me). Huh.
I feel guilty... I got mad at Amy last night. She was being a little more depressing than usual, and I just couldn't stand it. I'm sick and stressed and I don't need to boost her ego all the time.
I've had this urge for the past couple of days to draw Cam shaking Lucas by the shoulders and looking very upset while Lucas looks blank. I don't really know why.... the caption for it has been running through my head, as it is this: "What am I to you?!" Trippiness.
Well, being the idiot I am, I didn't do my civics homework. My group is gonna love me for that.... then again, they're sticking me with the job of reading the presentation on Spain because I'm the only one that knows how to speak some Spanish. *sweatdrops*
I'm having urges to draw the weirdest things.... I hate it when Cam angsts at me from his little spot in my mind.
Meg's Art Corner A really weird little picture of c3 and a Chibi Cam. C3 is drawn more in my gothic anime style than my normal one. Turned out quite well! ^_^
Over and out!
( 7:16 PM )   Neeee, imouto! If you're not gonna be doing Yunga Neko for a while, you should get a guest artist to do, like, weekly panels just until you can work on it again. *volunteers*       ( 7:14 AM )   Morning blog time again, kids!
I'm feeling okay this morning, so school for me. *sigh* School is so boring. Lunch is okay, mind you, because I have (as Speller said) "so many male bitches that work" for me. ^__^
I've been doing a lot of drawing since I got those pens. It's scary... can't wait to get more! ^__^ I also gotta get me some 10 X 15 paper, 'cause that's the standard comic size. I don't feel up to fighting with printers because the size ratio on 8.5 X 11 is uneven. Screw it. I'll just redo it all on standards.
I'm having the straaangest breakfast. Pork chops. Don't ask me, it was the only thing I could find...
Song of the moment: "Cruel Angel's Thesis (Harmonia Remix)" from Evangelion. *slobbers* I forgot what a COOL remix this is!!!
Meg's Art Corner Ben Carter, looking cute and vaguely distant! (Hey, he's a Blink fan, too!) Mark makes a scarilly cute girl. o_O Appearently, so does Lucas. Onna-Cam makes me think of Rally from Gunsmith Cats for some reason.... How cliché.
Over and out!
( 5:30 PM )   Nah nah naaaah! Meg has Sympatico access!!
Anyway, Meg also got herself some niiiiice grey prismacolor pens yesterday! Meg drew some pretty pretty pictures with them, too! Meg is happy, so she is!
Meg's Art Corner With her new prismacolors in hand, Meg is proud to present her latest creations! Angelique, the evil evil bitchy whore of a Demon from AH. She's pretty, tho. ^_^; "Legacy of the Messiah" cast shot; Rukura, Lucifer, and Pandora as kids! Carter and Lucas, a strange relationship these doods have. Carter looks somewhat like Cam, doesn't he? Quoik, Meg's only fae kyara!!
( 2:25 PM )   Tiredtiredtiredtired....
At the Office Place, they have a set of 24 prismacolor markers for about 40 bucks. I WANT THEM, but mom says "no, I don't have that kind of money right now". So, what we're gonna do, is I'm gonna drag her to Curry's Art Supplies store in a few hours and see how much THEY'RE selling them for.... maybe she'll buckle and take me back to the Office Place. ^_~
I need grey markers...
...oh, note to all who talk to me at night online. I won't be on until really late 'cause the network will be down. Unless mom hooks us up with Sympatico tonight, I'll be on around 2am. *sniffles* I'm gonna be without my querida fix! *snifflesniffle*
( 8:34 PM )   Lack of bloggingness today, as you all may have noticed. Dunno why, I was home again....
song of the moment: "Under the Bridge" by the Red Hot Chili Peppers. I *heart* Flea.... what an AMAZING bass player. Too bad this song doesn't showcase him much. If you want good bass by the dood tho, "Californication" is an order.
*cheers* The restrictions to see Hannibal have been changed from R to AA! In other words, I can get in to see it! Heeey, Dan, Amy, Speller, anyone? Wanna come with? I warn y'all, tho, it's been said that this movie is grotesquely violent.
Tomorrow is gonna be a very busy day. I'm going into town with my mom and brother for most of the day, then it's home for a few hours (like, two), and to the mall where I shall meet with Quinn-chan and Chris to go for our ritual Riot Ink business meeting. Then I shall return from the depths of Quinn's anime/transformers shrine of a home and return to my humble lair around midnight. Then I'll prolly talk to my baaaaybeeeeee (aka: querida) for the remainder of the dark hours of the evening.
Oh! Celeb Jeopardy! Two of my faaaaavourite doods were on there! Seth Green from various shows such as Buffy, and Steven from the Barenaked Ladies! DOOD! And Seth has his hair buzzed in sooooo damn short that he looks bald. 0_o
Kick ass! 3 Doors Down are playing at the Warehouse on March 11, and tickets are only $27... man, I wanna GOOOOO!!!
( 12:37 PM )   For Whom the Bell Tolls by Metallica Make his fight on the hill in the early day Constant chill deep inside Shouting gun, on they run through the endless grey On the fight, for they are right, yes, by who's to say? For a hill men would kill, why? They do not know Suffered wounds test there their pride Men of five, still alive through the raging glow Gone insane from the pain that they surely know
For whom the bell tolls Time marches on For whom the bell tolls
Take a look to the sky just before you die It is the last time you will Blackened roar massive roar fills the crumbling sky Shattered goal fills his soul with a ruthless cry Stranger now, are his eyes, to this mystery He hears the silence so loud Crack of dawn, all is gone except the will to be Now the will see what will be, blinded eyes to see
For whom the bell tolls Time marches on For whom the bell tolls
( 12:17 PM )   Okay, today's guest BMB is quite good. ^__^
*points out the window* Heehee, a mini-plow!! *giggles*
song of the moment: "Sunny Came Home" by Shawn Colvin (so sue me, I like this song... ).
( 12:08 PM )   Why is it on days that it's not supposed to snow, it snows the most? We've gotten about 13 cm since last night and it's still coming down... -_-;
song of the moment: "For Whom the Bell Tolls" by Metallica. Heeheehee....makes me think of AH. I shall post the lyrics on here later.
( 7:42 AM )   The Wheel of Excitement on Neopets loves me... I just won another 10 000 np. O_O       ( 7:35 AM )   Morning blog!
Here I am, killing time while I wait for either mom to call me or for me to call mom. Stupid morons in Wal-Mart, you call the main office and ask to be patched through to Electronics, and they put you on hold and hang up on you. Figures, it was mom's boss that just did that to me. Moron.
I got slim to no sleep last night due to sickness. Man, do I hurt... I feel like my guts are being put into a dryer's spin cycle constantly. And after drinking 3 L of cranberry juice, I'm not too good right now. I'm kinda waiting for mom to call so I can ask her what to do... I dunno if I should stay home or go to school. I bet I'm missing a fair bit. Well, there's always Fiona and Harpreet to ask. ^_^;;
I bet Dan's gonna kill me if I'm off another day. Mike's prolly beaten him up a few times by now without me there.
*drums her fingers* Mom, I asked you to phone me... you've got 10 minutes, and then I phone YOU....and hope I don't get hung up on...
Oh! BmB's on it's guest week. Y'know, with guest artists doing the panels. I'm not liking it too much. Yesterday's was a tad too blunt, with not enough joke 'ahind it. Maybe next time, I'll try for a guest spot on there. I'd be sure to do something involving Cy and Skids. I love Cy and Skids. ^__^
I'm running very low on straight kyara. Querida manages to turn them all gay! *shakes her head* Bennett, Lucas, Rukura, Sy.... who next? *turns to Tiirak* Dood, you're not gay are you? Tiirak: No way. Meg: You sure?? Tiirak: Yes, I'm sure. Meg: *looks suspicious*
Mommie bought me the Silence of the Lambs yesterday. It's such a good movie, and all the better if you've read the book. The casting for the movie is very good, too... Jodie Foster makes such a cute Clarice Starling. It really pisses me off that Julianne Moore is playing Clarice in Hannibal (which comes out tomorrow, check your local listings ^_~). She is SO not Starling material. But as long as Sir Anthony Hopkins is still good ol' Hannibal Lecter the Cannibal, I'll watch it.
*calls Mom* Wow, I got through....!!! Maybe that's because I cheated and used the associates-only code. How would I know THAT? 9.9
Looks like I get to stay home again today... *feh* Boredom and a half. Amy, if you're home, feel free to phone me or something.
Over and out!
( 10:50 PM )   Yeeeeeeeee! Querida can read my mind and alter my dreamstate!!!!
No one should have to drink 2 litres of cranberry juice in 5 hours. x_X
( 9:21 AM )   Morning blog!
I'm home sick! And it's only the 4th day of semester 2. Seems that whatever the hell was wrong with me before is wrong with me again... pain hurts, you know. T_T;
I've not much to say today... doesn't that suck when you wanna say something but you're outta' stuff to say?
OH!!! GOOD NEWS! AH Issue one is officially coming along WELL! Looks like I won't have to go to version 16... ^___^
( 9:32 PM )   Rukura and Lian... I got bored and messed around with PC Paintbrush...       ( 6:41 PM )   *looking from her cat CC to her mug of hot chocolate* CC is staring at the marshmellows like they're evil..... *inches away*       ( 6:29 PM )   The Angel Hunter church stainglass window...?       ( 4:00 PM )   Okay, I know.... I didn't blog this morning. I was running mighty late. I had to hop fences to get to school. ^_^;;;
What did I do today? Not much. I got yelled at three times and nearly booted out of my history class (why? for drawing! >.<;;), and I nearly fell asleep in comm tech. Thankfully, Mr. Dewitte let us out early.
The layouts for pages 1-4 of AH have been redone. This is version 15... and I'm LIKING it! FINALLY!
Heeey, imouto! Mercutio was the best kyara in that play. I also liked Benvolio, he was cool too (my once-best-friend Brittany took to calling me 'Volio 'cause I liked him so much). Mercutio, tho, had one hell of an attitude, and he was interesting and VERY funny. Too bad he had to die... I'm glad you liked the little snippet. Allow me to post another, just for you! ^__^ This is another bit I quite like.
Benjamin found it facinating to watch him, he was so calm and so... well, he was the very picture of freedom as far as he was concerned. Yes, that was it. Benjamin admired Lokistrant's blasé attitude towards life. Envy, almost.
When one night, Lokistrant was late on his ritual visits to the plantation, Benjamin worried. Could he have been hurt?.... no. This was Lokistrant. He didn't GET hurt. But maybe he just didn't want to see him anymore?
Abandonment. A reoccurring issue. His throat felt dry suddenly. He curled up on his bed, blond hair over his eyes, and wished for morning, when he KNEW that Lokistrant would not come. No second guessing when daylight was involved.
Minutes passed. And quite unexpectedly, Lokistrant was there, startling the boy. Leaning against the far wall, watching quietly, decked out in his usual dark reds and silvers. Benjamin sat up. "How long have you been there? You scared me!"
Lokistrant smiled his usual enigmatic smile, the impression of fangs something no longer unexpected. "Carter, deepest apologies for being so late." The smile was kind, but the voice was final, the tone stating that there was to be no questions asked. Lokistrant held out his hand to the boy. "Care to come with me into town for a while?"
( 7:45 AM )   Morning Blog, part II
Oh! I saw Cast Away over the weekend! It's SO good! Tom Hanks is a surprisingly good actor... I mean, who else can get away with talking to a volleyball so convincingly? And we all know that Amy likes to imagine him naked (Tom, not the volleyball). You should all go see it! NOW!!!! That's an order!
Heehee, now a little quote for fun from a story I am going to re-write.
Benjamin stared across the table at the stranger, worried. The man seemed in his twenties, if that, and had long brown hair that spilled over his shoulders and down his back. His eyes were an unnatural ruby red, and they were very intelligent eyes. Benjamin had learned early in life to be cautious, especially with the smarter ones.
The man crossed his hands on the table in front of him, casual. "Benjamin Carter, correct?"
Benjamin could dect a vague, though unrecognizable, accent. "Yes sir."
"You're fifteen?"
"Yes sir."
"Such a shame to see someone so young forced into... what you're familiar with."
Benjamin sunk down in his chair. "Why are you here? Why did you pull me away from papa?"
To match Benjamin's withdraw from the table, the man leaned forward, and smiled. Benjamin could have sworn he saw fangs. "You remind me of someone."
( 7:22 AM )   Morning blog!
Man, do I feel WEIRD this morning. I'm not sure why, exactly, but I just feel weird. I dunno. I think a certain spiritie dood slept in my bed with me last night.... *points at Bennett* 'Cause I actually slept.
Last night, during a particularly good RP, my ISP died and wouldn't let me back on. I wasn't happy. It was getting SO good, too... *pouts*
I'm so quickly out of things to say.... ^____^;;
O'er an' out!
( 11:17 AM )   Meg's random contemplations I'm considering re-writing Carter's story, which ties in with a fair bit of Lucas' story. Been considering it for a while... Carter's got some serious problems, and he's fun to write because he's so screwed up. He's got a really weird past. His dad was SUCH a jerk.... and up until becoming a vampire, Carter was good little Bennie; never had the nerve to fight his father. *ponders* It's an interesting story. Maybe I'll start on it again after I get home from seeing Cast Away....       ( 10:56 PM )   Okay, people, special announcement!!!!!!! Congrats to Bennett and niichan on the birth of their daughter, Candra Arael Bennett! ^___^       ( 3:32 PM )   Woohoo! I got switched from Casement's class to Apostolou's class! Hooray!!! And I am already SO ahead of all the people in my comm tech class. I seem to be the only one who knows how to use Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Publisher, and Premier, as well as Quark and a few other programs. Damn, am I ahead. *_*       ( 7:36 AM )   Morning blog!
Wow, I only slept 3 hours and I feel okay.... *falls out of her chair laughing at today's BmB* Cy and Skids are a riot! I hope they do turn out as a couple! *laughing*
New semester starts today. I'm not too happy about this, as I have history and math this semester, and history is my homeroom class. With Mr. Casement. *cries* NOOOO!!! If I get called by my last name ONCE in his class, I'm gonna commit suicide (okay, not really).
My room is now a nice shrine of large wall hangings. On the walls around my bed, I have three Card Captor Sakura wallscrolls (two anime, one manga), and one kick-ASS Prozzak Saturday People promo poster. Thank you, John. *smilesmilesmile*
On Neopets, I am neopoor. Looks like my pets are gonna be eating at the soup kitchen a lot. -_-;
Meg's Art Corner! I know, I've not done much in the way of art lately. You know what's weird? I tend to draw more in school than at home. I think it's because I'm around so many people. Cam's SD Panther form, doodled in MS Paint. I was bored, okay? And it DID turn out cute. Part of my MS Paint family portrait. I still have to finish the pictures for John and Dani, and the kids too if I have enough willpower after screwing around with the stupid program afterwards.
Song of the moment: "When Doves Cry (Fatboy Slim remix) by Depeche Mode and Prince. I love this... don't ask me why. ^_^;
Quote of the moment: "Listen sister, if I want your opinion, I'll BEAT it out of you!" -- Elvira, Mistress of the Dark
Okay, that's it for now. Ja matta ne! *disappears in purple smoke*
( 12:38 PM )   Song of the moment: "Misere by Andrea Bocelli and John Miles. I have a very....expansive taste in music. So sue me. *sings along*       ( 11:45 AM )   To Chris-kun: Dooood, I don't hate you, and I'm not mad at you..... jus' chill, man. S'your blog, you can say what's on your mind...
I got my pretty pretty new cladagh ring in the mail yesterday! *kisses said ring* Mi querida gave it to me!! Isn't that sweet? ^__^
I have come to the conclusion that Cam would make a really scary bad guy. Like, not c3... but if CAM were bad. He'd be scary. I mean, he's already got some issues with where his loyalty lies... and he's pretty much infinite in power. Not to mention, after being killed about 200 times, I think he knows the painful ways to kill people. Wonder if niichan (currently my neechan) sees this? Well, at least now he knows about Cam's possibilities for becoming nothing more than a lethal weapon.
I have three neopets! My blue wocky named Cadence, my green shoyru named Lokistrant, and my yellow eyrie Poyania! ^__^
"My December" is © Linkin Park. The art is mine. Don't take. Information on the layout is thus; this is Damien McKinnley, a character of mine whom I've been roleplaying for a little over a year now. He's Simon McKinnley's oldest child, and he's kinda angsty and depressive. Art done in paintchat and added some snow in Photoshop.

day 30: dusk
Hawaii is hot, beautiful, crowded, and decidedly not downtown Tokyo.
---
(Or, the Hawaii school trip rewritten.)
He's about to leave his hotel room when his phone starts ringing. Akira sighs, and swipes up.
"I said to call when you get there."
"Hello to you too, Futaba," Akira greets the pouting girl on the screen. "Sorry, things got busy."
"For five days!? Do you hate me?"
"I could never!" He exclaims, mock offended. "I just wanted to get you the perfect souvenir, unless you don't want the super cool Featherman stickers I saw in a gift shop—"
She gasps, pushing her face right up against the camera, screen blurring as she shakes her phone around. "You’re lying, Kurusu! There's no way you found the limited edition American Featherman laptop stickers there!"
"Mm, I'd be willing to cough it up, but only if an annoying brat is willing to forgive me."
"I forgive you, I forgive you!" She shrieks, eyes glimmering with excitement in a near dangerous way. "Okay, go have fun! Buy more of the stickers, too! I could sell them for big bucks in Japan."
"We are not ruining the merch economy, Futaba."
"You're no fun."
"I'm going now. Be good, you monster."
"Over my dead body would I ever do something good."
----
"That looks fun."
Makoto looks up from her place in the sand, a bucket in her hand. "It is. Would you like to join me?"
Akira nods, and sits beside her. He peers at her mediocre pile. There’s no design or meaning to it—It’s truly just a small mound of sand. "Is that supposed to be a sand castle?"
"Yes," she sighs. "I'm glad you can tell, at least. I've been trying to train myself to accept not being good at some things right away, so I decided to try and create a sandcastle; a task I've never practiced before."
"You never take a break, do you?"
"Well, I wouldn't exactly call this working," Makoto replies, filling her bucket with white sand. "Though how people create such tall sand castles are beyond me. How do they do it without some adhesive of some kind?" She then dumps the entire bucket onto her pile, grains sliding down as gravity takes hold. It settles back to its original, lackluster heap of sand. "Quite the predicament."
Akira stares at her. "Is that how you've been doing it this whole time?"
"Yes. Is something wrong?" She fills up another bucket of sand.
"Well—" Dump. "That's not...really how you do it."
She frowns. "I wish you'd told me that sooner, I've been working on this for fifteen minutes, and it would be a waste of time to—" Suddenly, a screaming child runs through her pile, flinging sand into both of their eyes.
After a solid minute of coughing and aggressive rubbing, Makoto turns to Akira. "A lesson would be excellent, thank you."
----
“Ooo, look at this one!” Ann exclaims, peering closely at massive, floral-themed sunglasses.
The two of them are strolling through the shopping district of their resort, pointing at random knick-knacks and giving their hot takes on them. To everyone’s surprise, Ann and Yusuke make excellent shopping partners; Yusuke is really the only one who can keep up with Ann’s insatiable need to shop, and he never butters up his response. In return, Ann listens closely to whatever advice he can give about aesthetics and color coding outfits.
“Tacky, but definitely in with the spirit of our island here,” he nods. “I think you should buy it. It will definitely bring some color into the dreariness of Tokyo.”
“You think?” Ann wears them, and looks in a mirror. “Not too much?”
“No, especially if you pair them with the blouse you bought in Shibuya.”
“The white one? Really?”
“Absolutely.”
“Alright,” Ann nods. “I trust you! But if Ryuji laughs at me, I will be throwing these at his head.”
“What on earth does he know about the art of aesthetics and fashion? Certainly not close to the knowledge that you and I possess, surely?”
Ann grins. “This is why you rock, Yusuke.”
“Thank you.”
They pay for her shades before continuing their stroll through the pavilion.
“Thanks for helping me out!” Ann says, basking in the sun. “Ever since Shiho moved, I don’t really feel like I have a friend who I can shop with. I mean, there’s Haru, or Makoto, or even Akira, but I feel like I bore them after a while.”
“My pleasure,” Yusuke replies, every step he takes deliberately putting himself underneath the shade. “I can see no better use of my schedule than practicing the art of color-coding in real time rather than in front of a canvas.”
She hums. “Are you gonna buy anything?”
“Oh, lord no,” he scoffs. “To spend my money on something such as souvenirs when I can hardly imagine paying for my next meal is laughable. No, I’m perfectly content with simply aiding you on your journey.”
Ann blinks at him, before gasping loudly. “I know, I know!” She whirls in front of Yusuke, clapping her hands together. “To thank you for always being with me on my shopping trips, how about I, Takamaki Ann, will buy you one thing in this entire shopping district, free of charge!”
Yusuke frowns. “I can’t possibly do that to you.”
“Sure you can! Think of it as a thank you for being my shopping best friend!” She grips his forearm tightly, eyes twinkling. “Come on, it’ll be fun! Please!”
Yusuke shifts in place, torn. “Only if you’re certain—”
“Heck yeah, I am! Let’s go!”
=
“How about a nice shirt?”
Yusuke tilts his head, holding an armful of fake coconuts. “I have a shirt back at home.”
“Yeah, but…okay, nevermind.” Ann sighs. Shopping for Yusuke is turning out to be a headache. Every time she offers something, he always seems to find a reason not to get it.
“Oo, how about a hat?” She says, showing him a very cheesy red hat with the word ‘Aloha’ written on the top.
“I’m not a fan of hats. To restrict the brain would be to restrict the mind.”
Ann holds back a groan. She wishes Akira were here—his mental alignment with Yusuke is miles better than hers. “Sorry, Yusuke, I’m out of ideas.”
“That’s quite alright,” Yusuke smiles. “I do have to thank you for the offer--” He stops, eyes zoning in on something behind her. “My goodness,” he whispers, before running.
“Wh-what? Wait up!”
Yusuke lifts a massive tiki head, mouth agape. “It’s brilliant…” he mutters, gently brushing the wood with his thumb. “Look at the intricate carving, the colors, the size!” He gasps, before turning to her desperately, still clutching his artifact. “Ann. I need it.”
Ann opens her mouth, before closing it, teeth clacking together. It’s better not to question Yusuke, and she has to wonder why she even tried to offer something normal to him when, in reality, he’s anything but. “Sure thing.”
They walk out of the store five minutes later, Ann’s shades still perched on top of her head and Yusuke happily carrying a 3 foot tiki head.
----
Akira's sitting underneath the shade of an umbrella when Haru decides to visit.
"Hello, there."
He looks up, sunglasses darkening the figure in front of him. She’s wearing her bright teal swimsuit with a large, white sun hat on her head. "Wanna join?" he asks, patting the sand beside him.
"I'd love to," she replies, settling down beside him. "What are you doing?"
"Making sure Ryuji doesn't drown." At her inquisitive look, he continues, "He's been trying to surf for the past twenty minutes."
"Ah, I see. Are you not interested in joining?"
"Not a fan of getting in water if I can help it. You?"
"I prefer to enjoy the sun with some reading," she gestures to the book in her hands: Flowerpedia.
"I'm surprised you haven't read that one before."
"I have!" She smiles, and he mimics her in return. It's nice to see Haru happy despite all odds. "But I like to reread it when I can't actually garden. It still lets me feel as though I'm on the school rooftop this way."
"I'll let you get to it then."
Akira enjoys the sun as Haru flicks open her book. With the waves crashing, the winds blowing, and people around them laughing amongst themselves, it makes for a calming atmosphere.
After a few minutes, Haru looks up from her book. "Oh, would you look at that,” They both watch as Ryuji finally stands on his surfboard, knees shaking. His brow is furrowed in intense concentration, even more so than in group study sessions (which, in reality, doesn’t mean much). "He's doing quite well."
Akira raises his hands and cups it over his mouth. His voice turns high pitched, "Looking cool, Sakamoto-senpai!"
Ryuji looks up, eagerly looking to see which cute kouhai is calling his name before slipping off the board, submerging in water completely as his surfboard continues to ride the current without him.
Haru purses her lips, trying not to laugh. "Too cruel, Akira-kun."
"I think of it as ‘just right.’"
----
“Yo, Haru! Ann!”
The girls turn around to see Ryuji enthusiastically running towards them, a hand behind his back.
“Hello Ryuji-kun,” Haru smiles. “You seem happy.”
“You bet I am! Because, I, Sakamoto Ryuji,” he rips his hand up, showcasing a neon green frisbee. “Bought a motherfuckin’ frisbee! Oops, sorry Haru.”
“I told you, I don’t mind if you swear.”
“A frisbee?” Ann asks, skeptical. “You’re that excited over a piece of plastic?"
“Hey! Have you ever played frisbee on a beach? It’s fu-frick, ugh, whatever, it’s amazing! It tires you out like crazy and it’s super fun. Plus, there ain’t much places to throw a frisbee around in Tokyo, unless you wanna get hit by a car or something.” He grins widely, jumping in place. “So? How about it? Wanna play a few rounds?”
“Ugh, pass. Sounds lame."
“What?! I spent a crazy amount of money on this thing—screw gift shops by the way, they're monsters—and you’re gonna call it lame?”
“Don’t worry Ryuji-kun!” Haru says kindly. “I’d love to play frisbee with you”
“Aw, you’re a lifesaver!” Ryuji whoops. “Unlike this killjoy over here.”
Ann rolls her eyes. “Whatever. I’m meeting with Akira. Later, Haru.”
Ryuji and Haru separate a good few meters apart and begin to lightly throw the frisbee from each other.
“Would you like to have more distance between us?” Haru calls after a few minutes of tossing. “I’d hate to feel like I’m boring you.”
“Only if you want! Don’t wanna make you sweat or nothin’.”
“I want to!” Haru says, determined. “To learn a skill like proper throwing and the technicalities of a perfect aim is helpful in our endeavor!”
“Hell yeah, that’s the badass Haru I know! Okay, let’s get some distance in here.”
The two of them separate even further, to the point where they have to scream in order to have a conversation.
“Is this good?!” Haru yells, holding the frisbee in her hand.
“Totally!” Ryuji shouts back. “Throw it!”
Haru takes a deep breath, and throws the frisbee with all her might. Perhaps it was her passion for learning new things, or maybe it was simply because she really, really wanted it to reach Ryuji in a beautiful arc where it would land directly in his waiting hands—instead, the neon green frisbee that was lovingly bought with Ryuji's pocket money is flung, gliding into the ocean. They watch in silence as it floats, far and away, until it’s out of sight.
Ryuji does his best to go through the five stages of grief in as little time as possible.
Haru sprints towards him, apologies already bubbling from her lips, promising to buy him ten frisbees and ‘I'm so sorry I don't know what happened Ryuji-kun, come on let's go back to the gift shop.’ In the end, Ryuji successfully turns down her offer, opting instead that they split a banana split back in the hotel.
"I don't know what happened," Haru sighs, shoving strawberry ice cream in her mouth. "I must have thrown it much too hard, I'm—"
"If you say sorry again, I'm making you eat the banana."
She frowns. "Do you not like the banana part of a banana split?"
"Of course not, do I look like someone who likes fruits? Anyway, point is, stop apologizin'! No harm, no foul."
"You looked devastated, Ryuji-kun."
He waves it off. "That's fine. What do they say in English? C'est la vie?"
"I'm... pretty sure that's not English. But please, one last time, allow to me apologize—"
"What, for being too strong?" He asks, eyebrow quirking up. "Look, I know you're my senpai and all, but lemme say this." Ryuji scoops a spoonful of chocolate in his mouth before continuing. "Never apologize for being too strong, especially in a shi-crappy world like this, okay? Lotsa people wish they have what you have, and people who are strong seem to be doin' awesome! I mean, look at Ann—she can probably kick my ass!"
"But she wouldn't."
"She wouldn't," he shrugs. "Doesn't mean that she can't, though. Anyway, for the last time," he points his spoon at her seriously, dripping with melting ice cream. "It's chill. You’re strong and that's awesome. Probably from all the dirt you carry, or weeds you pull out, or something."
Haru giggles. "Thank you, Ryuji-kun."
"No prob! Hey, let's see if we can get away with fillin’ up an entire bowl with caramel sauce!"
"I don't think that's the best idea."
----
"Akiraaaaa~"
"Yes, Ann?"
She grins, donned in her bikini and proudly shoving her phone in his face. Her beach bag hangs off of her shoulders. "Photoshoot?"
He pretends to think about it. "Only if I get compensated."
"You'll get compensated through a movie when we get back?"
"Deal."
Ann chooses a nice, empty spot on the beach; a seemingly impossible task given that Hawaii is a magnet for tourists. "This place is perfect!"
"It is," he agrees. "Any particular angles you're feeling right now?"
"You know my good ones," Ann says, throwing her bag down. She'd dragged him to enough of her photoshoots that he can practically mimic them, in order, alongside her.
Akira nods, and they get to work. She gives him a variety of poses—playful, confident, flirty, and he tries his best to channel his inner Ohya and get the best shots possible (at least, enough for ‘the ‘Gram,’ as she would affectionately call it). At one point, Akira has his stomach against the sand to capture her angles, to the amusement of the people watching.
"Ooo, what a cameraman!" Ann calls, one leg in the air, mid-pose.
"Only the best for the next Vogue superstar."
She laughs, but abruptly stops when a rough, deep, unknown voice yells at them.
"Show us more, sweetheart!"
Ann makes eye contact with a massive bodybuilder, eyeing her. She giggles. "Only if you come here!"
Akira clenches his jaw as the man saunters over to her, clearly thrilled to have Ann's attention. "What's your name, honey?"
Ann smiles, leaning over, having the man salivating behind her. Then, she picks up her bag and slams it across the guy's jaw. "My name is eat shit, asshole!"
He stumbles back, shocked and clutching his jaw. "You're fucking crazy!" He spits out, backing away from her, before stomping in another direction.
Akira sits up, smiling, and puts his hand up to her. "Good one."
"Thanks!" She enthusiastically high-fives him. "Was it too much?"
"The ‘eat shit’ thing? No, it's pretty classy."
"Right? It really gets the message across!"
"You want more pictures?"
After a second, she answers, "Nah, I’m good. I am down for a selfie though."
He smiles, and they both throw bunny ears around each other, both grinning at the camera.
----
"You okay there?"
Yusuke groans, eyes closed, leaning his head back on the sofa. His hand absent-mindedly rubs his bloated stomach. The two of them are sitting alone in the hotel buffet lounge on a table that's too big for them. Everyone else had left already, too impatient to wait for Yusuke to finish. "I feel that death is approaching."
Akira grimaces in sympathy. "Was it before or after the third plate of fried squid?"
"Before." He sighs. "I am not accustomed to so much food being available to me that I may have been a tad too eager."
"I can see that," Akira pushes his glass of water towards his mildly green-looking friend. "Drink that when you can."
"Thank you, but if I attempt to put anything in my mouth right now..." he shivers. "I cannot imagine it."
"Wanna try walking it off?"
Yusuke considers it. "Yes, that would suffice."
Akira helps Yusuke up, not unlike helping an aging Saint Bernard stand, and together they make their way to the beach.
He breathes in deeply, smiling ever so slightly. "As always, a great decision, leader. I feel my insides cleansing with the salt of the ocean."
"Do you like the ocean?"
"Yes. In truth, this is only my second time going; the first being when we went in the summer," he hesitates, before admitting, "Sensei didn't like to take us places as it could have been a distraction from making art."
"That's weird," Akira says. "Since places and experiences can help you make art, can't it?"
"My thoughts exactly. Sensei seemed to have forgotten how art is truly created, instead remembering how art can be acquired," he looks to the ocean, eyes distant. "A shame, since the ocean truly is something remarkable that cannot be captured without seeing it in real life."
He takes in Yusuke's expression, the way he stares longingly at the sea, and asks, "Do you want to make art now?"
"I'd love to, but my canvases were taken away during customs," he grimaces. "A shame, since I had brought five as well. What a waste of good supplies."
Akira tugs on his fringe. "You know, sand is almost like a textured canvas, isn't it?" He traces a smiley face on the sand with his heel. "Check it out."
Yusuke blinks. "Yes, but then I won't be able to take it back with me. It would eventually be washed away, or stepped on, or—"
"Yeah but you're not doing this to put it in a gallery, aren't you?" Akira asks, smiling at Yusuke. "This is just so you have a way to make art and enjoy it."
His eyes widen, before Yusuke chuckles quietly. "You truly have an interesting mind, leader."
"You and me both."
"Alright!" Yusuke starts, clapping his hands together. "Allow me to make art, not for a museum, nor for any of these pedestrians, but for myself."
Akira watches Yusuke make intricate patterns on the white sand for forty minutes; true to his word, he was constantly interrupted by kids sprinting across his make-shift canvas, waves washing it away, and at one point someone had dropped their entire surfboard right in the middle of it all.
Yusuke steps back, and admires his work. It’s barely comprehensible—just a lot of swirls and lines, but he's smiling wider than Akira’s ever seen.
"What do you think?"
"Does it matter what I think?" Akira shrugs. "I thought you never liked making art for others' opinion."
"I'd be willing to say you're the exception."
He grins, and claps his hand on Yusuke’s shoulder. "If that's the case, then I'd say it's perfect."
----
"Three-on-three, girls against boys."
Haru puts her hand up politely. "Pardon the accusation Mako-chan, but it seems that the teams may be unfair to us girls. After all, the tallest of us is Ann, who's only 5'6."
"Nah," Ryuji shakes his head, pointing an accusatory finger at Makoto. "You weren't there when we went to the beach before. She spikes down on us, no problem. Fuckin' hurts to try and block her, too. If anything, girls’ll have the advantage here.”
"But don’t worry about them, either," Ann pipes up. "They'll have Akira on the team. He makes a great setter."
"Not to mention that Yusuke is literally 5'11," Akira points out, hand raised to block out the intense Hawaiian sun.
Ryuji looks at Yusuke, as if only now seeing his height. "Huh. Damn, you're tall, huh? Like a telephone post, or something."
"I'll take that as a compliment; without telephone posts, we cannot use telephones."
"Hell yeah, we can't!" he grins, despite Yusuke's lackluster response. "You'll earn us a ton of points dude!"
Yusuke smiles. "You can rely on me."
=
"Yusuke!" Ryuji wails, frustrated. "You can't just stand and put your arms up to block! You gotta jump! Like this!" He demonstrates. "You're just letting all her spikes in at this rate!"
"But," Yusuke frowns. "If I jump too much, I start to sweat."
"Then take off that goddamn hoodie!"
"Hmm, that's possible. However, too much sun isn't good for me. It makes me sweat."
Ryuji screams, and Akira pats his back.
The score is roughly 22 - 8, girls in the lead. Haru makes for a good setter with her steady hands, and Makoto has never hesitated about anything in her life, which both add up to a dangerous combo. On the other side of the net, the only reason they earned their meager set of points is from Akira's setter dumps. Anytime he tries to set to Ryuji, Ryuji gets so excited that he either misses the timing, or simply forgets to jump. Though, Ryuji is fantastic at receiving the ball, from his stamina and fast reflexes. Yusuke, however, refuses to receive any of Makoto's spikes, opting instead to tilt his body out of her line of fire.
"It's okay, Yusuke!" Haru calls encouragingly from the other side. "Volleyballs are pretty scary sometimes!"
"Thank you Haru, but I am truly unperturbed by the point gap."
"You should be!" Ryuji screeches.
"It's not just his fault, you idiot!" Ann yells back, all too happy to pick on Ryuji. "You're the one that can't run and jump at the same time!"
"Sh-shut up! You're letting Haru and Makoto do all the work!"
"That's way better than losing by fourteen points!"
“How long did it take you to do that mental math, Takamaki? Or did Makoto whisper the answer to you?”
“Which one of us got 29% on the last math practice exam, because it wasn’t me!”
"How about we grab food?" Makoto cuts in. "It's about that time, anyway."
"Food sounds good," Akira says quickly, eager to lower Ryuji’s blood pressure.
Yusuke nods, pleased. "Yes, I was just about famished, anyway."
"Akira told me you almost threw up."
"That was nearly two hours ago. Everything has been digested."
"I worry about you, Yusuke."
----
"Hey."
Akira turns around to see Ryuji kicking the ground, making tiny sand clouds with his flip flops. The sun is about to set soon, casting their chunk of Hawaiian beach in an ethereal golden glow. Thankfully, with the lack of heat, there are substantially less people wandering around, and it can almost be considered peaceful. Quiet, even.
"Hey, yourself."
Ryuji rubs the back of his neck, "I'm not really hungry yet. You?"
Akira feels himself smile. "Can't say that I am. Wanna walk?"
"Almost like you read my mind."
So they walk along the shoreline, flip flops in their hands as they talk, waves lapping at their feet as they laugh about nothing and everything, basking in the sunlight and in each other's company. Akira kicks sand at Ryuji's feet which led to him trying to push Akira into the waves, losing his balance, and falling into the ocean himself. After they both nearly cry with laughter, they both decided to take a break on a nearby bench.
"Man," Ryuji sighs, hair still wet with salt water. “Hawaii is nice as hell. Can’t find a beach like this in Japan, ya know?” Ryuji looks at the sunset in front of them wistfully. “Makes me wish my Ma could see it. She’s always wanted to visit warm places, but she’s always working, never got the time.” His eyes light up, “Maybe I could take a couple pictures! I bet she’d love that.”
“She would,” Akira agrees. In the few times he’s met Sakamoto-san, she’s a huge sentimental sweetheart who thinks the world of her son. “Want me to take some of you?”
Ryuji thinks about it. “How about let’s take one together? She’d be happy to have proof that I’m not just making shit up about having friends.”
“Sure thing.”
The two of them crowd around Ryuji’s phone, Akira smiling softly while Ryuji grins, throwing peace signs, snapping a photo, before pulling back again. “Aw, she’d love this!” He grins. “This ain’t actually half bad, either.”
“Send it to me,” Akira says, peering over his shoulder. “I’ve been needing a new background, anyway.”
Ryuji stares at Akira, ears red. “S-sure, dude.”
They watch the waves crash against the shore. "I can't believe today's our last day,” Ryuji sighs. “I feel like nothing even happened."
Akira hums, making mindless circles into the sand with the very tip of his toes. "Did you want something to happen?"
"I mean, nothing specific. All I know about Hawaii was that they had beaches and shit," he shifts slightly. "The one thing I actually wanted to happen was to hang out with you a whole bunch, and even then I feel like I didn't get that."
"Well, we're here now, aren't we?"
Ryuji looks up at Akira, and after a beat of silence, he laughs. "Yeah, I guess we are." He bumps shoulders with him, grinning. "Look at you, sayin' shit like that, thinking you're so cool."
"Oh, I am the coolest. Arguably, I'd say I'm the coolest guy around."
"Yeah, next to Mishima, maybe."
"You don't think I'm cool?"
"I didn't say that!"
"So you do think I'm cool?"
It might be the warm sun or the general heat of the island, but his face flushes a bright red. After a moment of spluttering, he mumbles, "I think you're cool as hell."
Akira blinks, completely caught off guard. He tries to say a joke, like hell can’t be cool, Ryuji, but his heart is hammering so hard that his body can’t seem to cooperate.
"Oh," Ryuji goes on, shoving his hands in his pockets. "I was looking through the gift shop for my Ma’s souvenir and I found something for you!"
He fishes out two small keychains; two flip flops, one left, one right. They're designed with a tacky Hawaiian print and coconuts all over. Ryuji hands one to Akira. "We could match, see?" He rubs the back of his neck again. "Thought it was neat cause if we both have one, it's like we're walking side by side! Or, you know, something like that." His flush deepens, spreading all the way down his neck and splitting his chest. "Or not, it's probably super lame and tacky, it only cost like, 4 dollars, which is like 40 yen, right? Anyway, my bad for ruining the mood—"
"I love it," Akira breathes.
Ryuji's eyes widen before he quickly turns away. "Cool, cool." He looks to the sunset, too overwhelmed to look at the boy next to him. "We should probably head back, yeah? Bet Yusuke and Ann are eating half the buffet by now."
Akira scoots closer, shoulder to shoulder with the boy beside him. "Then let them."
They sit there for a few more minutes, watching the sky slowly turn violet, matching keychains hanging loosely from their fingertips.

Makoto swipes left on yet another face before giving Tsubaki a real Look. The other girl has just dropped a truth bomb that Makoto wasn’t quite expecting, if only because she didn’t think it was true.
“What do you mean you’ve never kissed anyone, Tsubaki?” she said, tucking her phone away. “I’ve kissed you.”
“Well, that’s different. Those are just friendly kisses- they don’t mean anything.” As Makoto frowns, Tsubaki is quick to continue. “I mean, they don’t mean the same thing! I mean, it’s just- it’s different Makoto, you know that.”
Makoto scoots her chair closer to Tsubaki’s, laughing. “I know, I know! I’m just bustin’ your chops, Tsubaki. A friendly smooch and a full on kiss is like comparing grape juice and a bottle of wine.”
“That’s one way of putting it. I’ve kissed family members as well, but that’s even less similar. It’s just… people our age have usually had their first kiss by now, haven’t they?”
Makoto mentally scrolls through their friend group and is pretty sure she’s the only one in it that’s had a real kiss with a potential romantic partner, even if none of them really panned out. “I dunno about that, Tsubaki. I mean maybe, but it’s not like there’s anything wrong with not being as good at stuff as other people. I mean, look at me, I got an F in our first year his world history!”
Immediately, Tsubaki’s gaze is ice-cold. “You told me you got a C.”
“Th-that’s what I meant! It’s just been so long it slipped my mind!”
As Tsubaki’s expression softens into a laugh, Makoto’s does the same. It’s nice to be able to meet like this and just… relax around one another. They haven’t been able to sit around and talk about love troubles since the Academy days, which seems so far away now. But in Spirale, everything is just so ordinary, in a weird way. They’re just living their lives like they should’ve been able to, working during the day, having tea and cookies in the evening, and enjoying each other’s company.
If this moment could last forever…
Tumblr media
The whistle of the teakettle prompts Tsubaki to her feet. “Ah! I’ll be right back, Makoto. Milk and six sugars, right?”
She smiles. “You know me too well.”
As Tsubaki bustles about in the kitchen, Makoto opens her phone again. She’s been using this dating app for a while, but nothing’s ever come of it. She’s never responded to messages, never gone out with a match, never nothing. She hasn’t thought about her own love life in a long time- it felt like there was too much going on in her life, and now that her life has settled down there’s too much going on in her head. If she can’t keep herself straight, why should she dump that on someone else?
“Makoto, I’m just curious now,” says Tsubaki, still busying herself with the tea. “Who was your first kiss?”
“Oh, me? It was…” Makoto trails off, piecing together fragments of memory from places that feel like they happened centuries ago. “Just… some guy from the neighborhood in Shinatsu. We just went to the movies together, and then he kissed me and tried to touch my boob. He didn’t get a second date.”
“I see…” Tsubaki pours the tea with an intense look on her face, perhaps comparing their own experiences. “What was his name?”
“I dunno. It’s not really important.” That’s a lie. It was Shirou. “He’s not really important.” That part’s not a lie.
“I just feel like… these things should be important. Or at least memorable, don’t you think so?”
A familiar face shows up in the app, so Makoto chuckles and swipes right for the fun of it. “I think that’s asking a lot. I mean, your first kiss, your hundredth kiss, what does the number matter? What matters is who it’s with. Things like that are only as important as you make them. One kiss with a person you love is more important than one hundred with strangers, right?”
“That’s… well, that’s more insightful than I was expecting, Makoto,” says Tsubaki as she sets the tea down. “But I like the sentiment.”
Makoto slides her phone into her coat again, chuckling. “Well, you know me! I’m something of a love guru, Tsubaki. After all, I’ve been on many, many dates.”
“And how many of them were with the same person?”
“That’s-”
A silence ensues as Makoto’s mouth hangs open, because Tsubaki just went for her throat. After a few moments, the other girl can’t stifle her laugh. “Oh, I’m sorry Makoto! It was just right there, I couldn’t resist!”
“I mean… you got me there,” mutters Makoto, retreating into a chocolate cookie. “Maybe I taught you the art of banter a little too well.”
Both girls laugh again. Makoto finds herself wishing they lived closer together.
Leaning in, Makoto’s eyes begin to sparkle with mischief as that familiar cleft smile dances on her face. “Soooo, Tsubaki. Why did you want to talk about kissing, anyways?”
Tsubaki coughs into her teacup as Makoto scoots her chair closer again. “W-well, I just… some things have happened recently that made me think about it, that’s all.”
“I see, I see. You read a book with some kissing in it, right?” Makoto pulls out her phone again, swiping through apps.
“Y-yes, that’s exactly it! It was a very nice romance novel, and-”
“Nothing to do with this?” Makoto turns her phone so Tsubaki can see, and there on the screen is the incriminating evidence: Tsubaki in a sexy nun costume, and Ragna dressed as either a pile of damp fur or a werewolf, and they’re hand-in-hand, dancing together.
Immediately, Tsubaki’s face goes red. “M-Makoto!” she says, voice reaching an impressively high pitch as she reaches for the phone. “Where did you get those? Were you spying on me?”
“What, no! Not then, at least,” says Makoto, holding her phone just out of Tsubaki’s reach.  “We went to the party together, remember? And I just happened to catch a little eyeful of something as the night went on…”
“I-it’s not what you think!” says Tsubaki, either trying to see the depths of Makoto’s evidence or erase it altogether. “Ragna and I have simply spent a good deal of time together here, and I only wanted to show him that I appreciate it!”
“It’s fine, it’s fine! I’m not judging you or anything, though this is definitely a step back from Major Kisaragi.”
Now Tsubaki’s face matches her hair. “I don’t know what you’re implying about Jin, Makoto!”
“I’m just thinking you have a type, my dear Tsubaki. Careful, you’re gonna spill your tea!”
The threat of spilling her hard-made tea is enough to defuse Tsubaki’s wrath at least a little, and so she settles down, sinking back into her chair and taking a cookie from the plate between them. After a few bites and a few sips, she speaks again, as placid as a quiet lakeside. “I really don’t know what you’re talking about, Makoto.”
“Right, right. My bad.”
A contented silence settles between the pair as they enjoy their snack. For a moment, the city around them vanishes, and all that’s left is the two women as they bask in each other’s company. Despite their teasing, there’s no doubt that the same thing is on both of their minds: I’m lucky to have friends like this.
Makoto breaks the silence, mouth still full of cookie. “You’re scared you’re gonna do something to mess it up, right? Like you’re gonna have to kiss him, but you’ll get it wrong, and then he won’t be interested.”
Tsubaki’s eyes widen, revealing deep blue pools that have a depth Makoto can’t imagine. Tsubaki’s easy to read, but there’s so many cards she keeps close to her chest. It must come from the upbringing. “M… maybe it’s something like that,” she sighs. “You know I don’t have much experience with things like this.”
“That’s why we make a perfect team! We got each other’s backs!” Makoto scoots her chair forward one last time, and now her and Tsubaki are side-by-side. “Look, there’s nothing to worry about. I’ll teach you how to kiss, Tsubaki.”
To Tsubaki’s credit, she only jumps a little. “You’ll-!” She takes a moment to compose herself. “Thank you Makoto, but that’s really not necessary.”
“No, really. Look, I know it sounds like a joke, but I just wanna show you it’s not that bad. I’m not gonna, like, slip you some tongue or anything. But if you see it’s not so bad, you won’t be as nervous about it later.”
“Slip me some…? I-I just don’t think you need to, Makoto. I’m sure it’ll be fine.”
“Oh, I get it! You don’t want to be seen smooching a beastkin!” cries Makoto, throwing her hands in the air. The dramatization in her voice is so thick you could cut it with a sealed weapon. “I wouldn’t want to besmirch the good name of the Yayoi family!”
“Makoto…”
“It’s my own fault for daring to fly so high! For even thinking of touching the sun with wings of wax!”
“That’s a very good metaphor, but…”
“I won’t dare dirty your lips with mine! We’re just from two different worlds, you and I!”
Perhaps this is where the timeline splits. Can a continuum shift exist here, even in the distant city of Spirale? Perhaps somewhen else, Makoto can’t keep up her act, and the pair laugh and go about their conversation again. And when they part ways for the night, Tsubaki settles down with a good book while Makoto calls a friend to meet at a bar, and when they wake up the next morning nothing between them will have changed.
But perhaps this is not that time.
“Makoto.” Suddenly Tsubaki’s hand takes hold of Makoto’s and guides it back to the table. “There’s a reason they never let you into the drama club at the Academy. If I… allow you to do this, will you calm down?”
Makoto gives a dramatic sniffle. “It’s worth a shot.”
Tsubaki sighs, and though she tries to force a smile, she probably isn’t as pleased with the prospect of having her first real kiss be Makoto and not a certain Christmas-colored man. “Alright, alright. I don’t see the harm.”
Immediately, Makoto’s waterworks shut off. “Okay, okay! First, just some general advice. If it’s a first kiss, you don’t really need to do anything fancy. No one’s an expert at first, after all.” Suddenly she’s very serious, leaning in as she speaks. “Just purse your lips and do what comes naturally. If you’re getting more into it, try and match their lip movements. And don’t just stick your tongue into their mouth, you gotta take it slow.”
“Makoto, you said no tongue.”
“That’s tips for later! Here, let me just- I’ll just show you.” Makoto closes her eyes and tries to put together a scenario in her mind to get herself into the mood. She’s just had a romantic dinner with Tsubaki, and now, at the end of the night, she’s making her move. Her eyes open slowly, a gentle smile on her lips as she tries to remember some of the good dates she’s had and what’s been said in them. “Tsubaki… This has been a wonderful night. Do you mind if I…?” She begins to lean in, eyes on Tsubaki’s gently-parted lips.
But Tsubaki is glancing side to side, eyes wide and cheeks beginning to color a gentle red. “What are you- Makoto, what are you talking about?”
Reaching out, Makoto puts a hand under Tsubaki’s chin. “Here’s another tip, Tsubaki,” she laughs. “Don’t overthink things. Just… do it. Nothing kills a moment like someone who thinks too hard about it.”
She doesn’t give Tsubaki a chance to move away or raise any further objections. It’s just a kiss, by the book and only lasting for a few seconds. A gentle touch of the lips, a tilt of the chin, and the quickened beating of two hearts.
As Makoto leans away, Tsubaki nods to herself. “Well, that… wasn’t so bad. I guess you were right after all, Makoto.” She blinks a few times, perhaps expecting for a teasing comment that doesn’t come. “Makoto?”
Something has changed. As Makoto leans back into her own chair, she finds herself somewhere far away, tumbling through her own mind. She knows a kiss can say so much, and suddenly she finds herself regretting that this one said nothing at all. Now she finds herself wanting to say so much, things she didn’t even know she wanted to say.
“Tsubaki, I…” She stops, biting her lip as regular words fail her as well. A look of concern clouds Tsubaki’s face.
A holed-up vent has burst open somewhere, one that she didn’t know existed. She’s been on so many dates with so many people, kissed so many friends and acquaintances and near strangers, but nothing has compared to this one moment between her and Tsubaki. One of her closest friends, the first one who reached out to her at the Academy, one of the first ones who really cared, one of the first people outside of her home village who knew her by Makoto, and not just by Nanaya or beastkin or squirrel girl.
Makoto had just assumed she didn’t know what real love looked like, that it had been hiding from her all this time. Maybe it had been the other way around. They were friends, the best of friends, along with Noel and the others. And then… so much had happened. There was fighting among friends, and then the Imperator mind eater, and then finally, they were free, and they’re here, and Makoto finds herself wondering if there was a spot in there somewhere that she could’ve said something, done something, felt something different.Or is she just too late, a few months too late to be that person in her life when she hadn’t even known she’d wanted it so so badly?
“Makoto, is everything okay? You’re crying. Please tell me this isn’t another act of yours…” Tsubaki’s gentle touch on her cheek causes Makoto to rush back to reality, siphoning the flurry of thoughts that had been clouding her mind back into some clogged-up bottle in her chest.
“Oh, I- I’m sorry, Tsubaki,” she says, blinking in the light. “I just… I don’t know. I’m just confused all of a sudden.”
They lock eyes, and Makoto realizes what she had wanted to say with that kiss. I’m sorry I didn’t do this sooner. You deserve this, and so much more. I shouldn’t be doing this but goddammit I’m doing it anyways because I don’t even want to imagine the alternative. Is it too late to say those things now?
As Makoto stares, Tsubaki seems to be catching on. “Makoto, are you alright? You look like… Is there something on your mind?”
God, yes, yes there is. Something she never could have or would have imagined in a million years, but it’s happening now and it’s already slipped out of her grasp and it’s not fair but nothing’s even been fair and what if it never could have worked in the first place?
Then again, nothing kills a moment like someone who thinks too hard about it.
Makoto stands up. “I’m sorry, Tsubaki. I’m being really selfish right now.”
Tsubaki rises as well, reaching out for her friend. “Makoto, what are you talking about? I’m worried, this isn’t like you.”
Makoto’s well aware it isn’t. This is all so sudden and fresh, yet it throbs like a scar from ten years ago. It’s going to hurt, but she needs to know. She reaches out with one hand, taking Tsubaki by the cheek and gently tilting her chin up. “Sorry, what I meant to say was I’m about to be really selfish right now,” she says as she leans in.
There’s a spark where their lips meet one last time. Something lights in Makoto’s chest, something that feels like elation and pain at the same instant. Something is satisfied, but something else recoils in fear and disgust, knowing full well that she shouldn’t be doing what she’s doing.
Tsubaki has someone she likes. You can’t just dump something like this on someone’s lap. You can’t just hold them by the shoulders and pull them towards you, afraid that at any moment, there might be space between you once more which ends the moment in time, and which means things will never be the same.
Makoto kisses Tsubaki. Maybe she should’ve done it years ago. Maybe she never should’ve done it. But she’s doing it right now, and although she might regret it later, at least she’ll have this instant where the girl who’s only kissed one person and the girl who’s kissed one hundred people cross over. If this moment could last forever…
There’s a hesitant touch at Makoto’s hips, the warm hands of the girl she’s locked lips with. The tenseness in her digits seem to fade away, and indeed, she’s pulling Makoto closer now, as if somehow, she’s feeling something similar. Maybe in her own head, she’s regretting the things she never said, the thoughts that she never knew she could think, the actions she never took.
Makoto takes Tsubaki’s head in her hands as Tsubaki’s hands press into Makoto’s back, and the moment stretches on. It could last forever too, until Makoto’s tongue pokes Tsubaki’s lips, which makes her jolt back, and suddenly the spell is broken. Both girls are staring at each other, wide-eyed and red-cheeked, panting slightly and feeling their heartbeats in their throats.
The first one to shy away is Makoto. She falls backwards, stumbling over her chair and spilling her tea over the tabletop. Although she opens her mouth, only a single word manages to find a way out, whereas Tsubaki only manages one syllable more.
“Tsubaki…”
“Makoto, you…”
They both stare at each other, perhaps wondering if the other will speak first. In Makoto’s mind, she’s already hounding herself for doing something so damn stupid. How can you apologize for something like this? Sorry I kissed you even though I knew you liked someone else. Sorry for unleashing a vault full of repressed emotions that I didn’t know I had onto you. Sorry for taking your first kiss. Sorry for loving you in a way that maybe I shouldn’t.
Makoto manages half a sentence this time. “I just wanted to be…”
Tsubaki waits, but nothing else comes. And again, Makoto is the first to break away, because the idea of confronting this terrifies her. It’s like she’s caught in that pit again, slowly freezing as Tsubaki stares into her. Tears trickling down her cheeks, Makoto simply turns and runs out of the room. Although Tsubaki reaches out for her, she says nothing more as her friend runs away. Her own mind and heart are a tangle of fragile strings, and she clutches at her head, biting back bitter tears.
Those weren’t the right words, thinks Makoto as she dashes through the streets of Spirale. She doesn’t know where she’s going, only that she has to get as far away from herself as she can. It shouldn’t have been ‘I wanted to be.’
“I’m so… I’m so sorry, Tsubaki,” she says through gritted teeth.
What she should’ve said was “I just wanted you…” With that, maybe the last words would’ve found their way there naturally.
Just another possibility of the continuum shift…

What's this? Just a little nothing I did tonight to test out my new tablet! In celebration of Sasuke's birthday earlier this week I did my OT3 SasuNaruSaku. It's really small, since l haven't figured out how to crop pictures probably yet xD
Pose is @mcnuggyy, thank you for the amazing OT3 prompts, I did the A-row a while ago, might upload those too, if I ever feel like it!

Nice.
“I thought you liked girls! Didn’t I see you swooning over Pride and Iris?”
“Netto-kun, I was what, eleven? Twelve?”
Bisexuality? Not that compulsory heteronormativy isn’t a thing but. Well, personally speaking, I’d just like to have it acknowledged and not be the binary of “you’re either straight or gay”.
“His name is Jomon Teruo.”
“Jomon?”
“As in Japan’s Jomon Electric megastore?” Rockman chimed in.
“That’s it. His grandfather is the CEO.”
… Now, on top of that, he was beholden to some snotty rich kid. The spawn of one of the country’s most affluent name-brand families, in fact. They’d probably ride off into the sunset together in a luxury sedan, flocked by enough maids and servants to make Yaito-chan jealous.
I wonder if Teruo was chosen just because he’s canon rich to serve this role. Yeah, I’m just skipping to the parts where he gets mentioned.
“My counsellor recommended I check out Japan Club. That’s where I met Teruo-kun. He was super welcoming, and we planned all sorts of cultural events together to promote awareness.”
That’s actually pretty sweet. Good on you, Teruo.
The geek delivered a chaste kiss to the now-standing Tohru’s cheek, an act which caused Netto discomfort. “C-cancelled. S-so I flew here instead.”
“H-hi there, I-I’m Jomon Teruo.”
“Hikari Netto.” They shook hands, and the seated one noted the latter’s stutter.
So this was the wolf himself. Not what Netto imagined. The freckled hafu wore a baggy newsboy hat, rimless vintage pink sunglasses, long-sleeved shirt with circle of iron filings splaying the front and lightning bolts running up the arms, white slacks, and utility belt. He looked more like a mechanic or a rock and roll delinquent than the grandson of an electronics magnate. The only overt indicator of his wealth was his one obnoxious pierced ear, flaunting a diamond earring.
To be fair, this is probably more canon and in-character than everything I’ve ever done with Terry. BUT this is just straight up pulling from his game appearance from the mentions of “geek” and the stutters. This is just straight up his canon design as well, which, in my opinion, is A Look.
Tumblr media
Although, I’m assuming if they’re older in this fic, they’d somehow dressed differently? The author is mixing game canon into the anime one (which I’ve never seen. To be honest, if Terry had ever appeared ONCE I would’ve watched the whole thing a million years ago, lol favoritism).
Although, hafu? Where did that come from? Terry's not said to be half-anything in the text or anywhere else in canon--absolutely nothing wrong if he was but this is the only place that mentions it for some reason?
That’s not really based on any canon thing at all. Is it because he was renamed Terry in English? That won't make sense in the Japanese setting of this fanfic? Like, even Terry could just be a nickname from Teruo. Teri is even still a a Japanese electric term.
N-not at all. L-lemme tell ya, robots are fascinating. A-and you’re apprenticing under Aoki Makoto? S-she’s a legend in the robotics community.”
“You should let Teruo-kun have a look at what you’re working on,” Tohru proposed. “Robotics are his specialty.”
“Q-quit it, Tohru-chan.”
Drat. He was modest too.
Teruo’s actually pretty cool with this? I’m anticipating the heel turn any time now but this is pretty nice. Based Teruo, loving and supporting robotics, female scientist and his fiancé.
Putting together Terry and Copybots is such an obvious thing that I'm mostly glad someone else did that!
Tumblr media
A genius who could match pace with Tohru’s intellect, wealthy and reputable, with a sturdy career. Netto had nothing to offer. Teruo was everything he couldn’t be.
Well, yeah, Terry/Teruo’s shown to be good with robotics and have a rich grandpa but, seriously, Netto. This is a little too much, pfft. Although, that is the point of a pining romantic fanfic, I suppose. I’ll be honest, I haven’t read fanfics for a long time. It just feels more like the plot is leading the characters on and slotting them into types instead of letting the IC personalities and motivations arise naturally or speak or whatever.
And now I’ll turn into about myself. Am I any better with my own stuff? Nope! Author did this the same reason I do my own art—coz it amuses ‘em.
“His boyfriend is rotten! A scoundrel! The heavenly bodies foretell it!”
Yep, it’s definitely not me Netto-kun likes. Teruo-kun wouldn’t harm a fly! Tohru relished the garlic in his dumplings.
HERE WE GO 😈
The powwows a directionally inadept Dingo held asking his tomahawk for counsel locating Maha Ichiban’s customers came to mind, and Netto justly grew skeptical.
What? Err… You know what, I’ll just concentrate on the Teruo parts. For my own peace of mind. I don’t want to get legit mad again.
Tohru was entitled to the world. On Teruo’s lanky arm, that attitude represented a concrete, dynastic legacy. If the cost of that felicity was that he himself would fade, amen! Tohru’s contentment justified the tribulation. He could take it. For his beloved, he could learn to suffer the grief.
Yeah, this kind of thing. It feels more like Teruo is just an obstacle for the eventual realization of Netto’s true love. Like any trope, it’s not that’s necessarily bad but this is a little too on the nose and a little too overwrought for me. xD Maybe Netto was too different in the anime but I don’t really hear Lan thinking or talking like this, even as a grown up or in love. It’s just stuff like the author is blatantly going “hurry it up and get together” but at the expense of the story. It’s…well, “fanfic” writing.
I’m not explaining myself very well. This is why I don’t write fanfic myself, lol.
“Based on the evidence, we’ve secured a warrant to take Sparkman’s suspected operator, Jomon Teruo, into custody”
HERE WE FUCKING GOOOOOOOOOOOO
“Now that you mention it, Teruo did express a dubious interest in our research. Gah! Romeda-san was right!” He smacked himself, realizing the phony psychic’s prediction had come to fruition. “The jerk is shady!”
He’s a robotics guy who’s interested in robotics stuff. He seemed perfectly normal when you talked to him. How is that shady.
His vilification of Teruo abruptly gained legitimate weight.
😈 😈 😈 To be clear, I’m not mad or anything. This is actually a lot more fun than I expected it to be. It’s more funny than anything. Like, here’s Teruo being an okay dude who’s being guiltily vilified by Netto…but no, he was right, all along!
“Even though I’m not worthy of your love, even though I’ll never be able to give you the things he can, that doesn’t change the fact that I will protect you, Tohru-kun! No matter what! You may hate me for it, but there’s no avoiding it anymore!”
Teruo’s a shit Netbattler. You’re one of the best. Go beat his ass netbattling or something, Netto.
He located Teruo immersed among the gizmos in his lab. Untidy as a hoarder, blueprints and tools lay disorderly, necessitating Tohru dance around the innumerable hazards to his feet. His grease monkey boyfriend was hunched over a project, welding. Blue embers licked the metal as he mended a garish scar begriming its surface.
Okay, I can’t believe how cool Teruo is in this fic. I mean, he gets to do robotic-labs shit, even if just by implication. What the fuck.
“Yo, Tohru-chan!” Teruo jerked his helmet up.
He was tinkering with a robot. A Copyroid.
No…
“What have you done?”
“My oh my, that Hikari Netto did a number on you, didn’t he?” Teruo patted the Copyroid. “I rewired it. Optimized its destructive capability. Rebooted it without those pesky inhibitors. No safety parameters. I’ve accomplished what Aoki Makoto was afraid to do.”
The loss of the Jomon family successor’s stutter unnerved him. Was it all a ploy?
Like, this is legit cool, man. Teruo’s legit badass. Haha. Based. And he’s giving orders to the neo-WWW? Like, some kind of Dr. Wily analogue? So cool, even if just implication.
Oh, by the way, that’d be welding mask, and not helmet.
“Gramps is holding out on me. Reassessing my status in his will. He dissed robotics and threatened to sever my funding, the geezer! When I caught wind on an Undernet BBS that these lowlife goons were planning to bust out the Professor, I extended my services. In exchange, the Professor lends me his soldiers. It’s a hostile takeover, baby!”
Tumblr media
Fuck yeah. I actually love this. This is pretty much his scenario from the game but extended a little more villainously.
“After everything we’ve been through! It was a lie?”
“Never. I do love you. Gonna give you the world, Tohru-chan. Picture it. Us, unlimited coin, and a controlling interest in the organization!”
“You can walk away! I’ll speak to the Net Police! We can hammer out a plea bargain!”
“Aww, how swell of you to defend me. When this is over, you and I are due for a heckuva holiday. Hmm? The Southern Isles?”
And it turns out he genuinely loves Tohru? Like, in his own earnest way? Based.
“You ain’t gonna win! No siree!” Teruo taunted, priggishly unhinged after having been liberated of his tiresome fake speech impediment and goody two-shoes public persona.
The duplicitous jerk! He really was the spoiled rich kid Netto thought!
Okay, but I wanna argue that I don’t think that Teruo (Terry in BN4) was faking—the stutter at least. Terry’s thing is at his heart, a coward. The stutter was him being a scaredy-cat because he was nervous trying to trick Lan and him getting a confidence boost was thinking he’s succeeded. There’s the heel turn I’ve been waiting but the whole way getting here was so fun (and honestly short) so I don’t mind as much.
“Bourgeois slime, I’m gonna enjoy pixelating that disrespectful runt of yours!” Teruo spat.
I was gonna say how weird for him to use bourgeois as insult when he’s the richer one but I just looked it up and this usage is correct: bourgeois relates to the middle-class. Whoops. I also just found out that I’ve been understanding the slang “bougie” wrong all this time. Educational!
Neither Teruo nor Sparkman abided by restraint. Divorced of commitment, they cut loose, exactly as Teruo stipulated, with “extreme prejudice.”
And Teruo completes transformation to vaudeville villain. He’s still fun, though.
Teruo threw caution to the wind. Resorting to cheating, he spammed Extra Codes to push Sparkman to the limit, mashing his PET like his life depended on it. “Take this! And this! And this! Heh heh heh!”
Can it really be called cheating if this was never meant to be a fair legit fight in a contest with rules. Teruo’s just being a poor sport in general. Which is still canon characterization, btw.
“Garbage!” Sparkman was literally falling apart. “You may excel at repairing machines, but you sure stink at Navi operation!”
“Sue me! I’m a robot specialist, not a NetBattler!”
Rockman mocked, “Arguing? Trust between operator and Navi is key!”
“You’re such a hot shot! Why don’t you fix this useless robot body?”
“I oughta sell you for scrap!”
Yeah, this is just from the game. Although, Teruo should be able to do something about the Copyroid body. Okay, you know what, I’ve always want a Full Synchro between them. What’s that? The point of Terry’s story was how he’s so bad at Netbattling and he couldn’t get along with his Navi?
Well, more reason for them to overcome their differences and finally be true battle buddies. Honestly, that’s part of the whole “Terry gets a friend, learns to be less of a terrible shit and gets his life on track” fanfic idea I’ve had since I played his game.
Anyway, he gets arrested. And…hired an assassin to try take Netto out? Lmao, still badass. That’s it for him. I tried looking for that time travel thing but, nothing. I think from context, this is just because this whole story was the time travel thing? Well.
That was more entertaining than I thought it would be. I’d have to wonder why Terry of all people but it may be as simple as he was a rich jerk who never appeared in the anime and so good for a retelling. He was far more important in this story than pretty much anything else I’ve ever seen, outside of my own stupid doodles, hahahaha.

//Appologizes if this is a mess, turning discord rp to posts is harder then it should be,
“Miraz-san, stop by on your way out of class, please.” Naomi said, looking at the archer.
Damian perks up slightly at his teacher calling him, frowning slightly. He packs his things and waits for everyone to leave. When everyone does, she looks at him. “I have a question to you and I want you to answer me. How much did you sleep, lately?”
“I’ve slept fine.” He replies avoiding eye contact. “The school year just got busy is all.”
“…I am more qualified than anyone else in this school to notice people working way beyond their limits, did you know that?”
“What are you talking about?” He frowns.
“…What are you doing in the afternoons?”
“Practicing with Miss Pekoyama or Coach Nekomaru. On days I’m not I study.”
“…And no interaction with your classmates?”
“Not in the past few days, maybe a bit longer.” He mutters, holding his arm.
“I was worried about this. Why aren’t you?”
“I just want to catch up on things I’ve been slacking on since…you know.”
“Four months ago?”
Damian flinches slightly, caught in his lie but refusing to tell why he’s doing so.
“It’s not healthy for you, Miraz-san. You need social interaction.”
“I can talk to my friends anytime.” His eyes narrow stubbornly. “And I’ve taken care of myself just fine.”
“I’m just trying to stop you from repeating mistakes other people did! You can’t. No one can. We are all worried for you, kid. And I have permission from Komaru and Makoto to do whatever I think is right in those circumstances.”
“I said I’m fine!” He snaps, finally looking up at her. Bags are evident under his eyes. “I’m going to get strong for everyone one way or the other.”
There is a knock on the door, and Naomi smiles. “I think you two would get along great, then.” She said. “Come on in, Sora!” Sora stepps into the room. “You called me, Mom?”
Damian turns his head slightly to glance at Sora. “…”
“Yes. You needs more human contact” She points on the boy, “and you,” and then on the girl “are my daughter and I can tell you what to do, so you two are free to do whatever you want as long  you stay together for the next few hours. Think on it as detention.” Sora rolled her eyes, but besides it didn’t respond. She was used to those things from her mother, and it wasn’t the first time she was used as a tool to help someone… though less then she grew up and stopped being cute little girl.
Damian looks at Naomi with irritation before nodding. “Fine…”
“I’m not that awful, I swear.” Sora said. “Come on, uncle Damian. You can teach me to shoot.” Her uncle back home always refused, because there was the constant fear of MI raiding the school… which was fair, but still. She wanted to learn, even if she’ll ever use KK as her main weapon.
“Just come on for now.” Damian does his best to ignore her as he walks down to the library. “Today isn’t a training day.”
She follows him, dancing in her place. “Mom means good, you know. Or, well… She means well, anyways. She is trying to help.”
“Mhm.” He mumbles in reply as they step into the library.
“You are being mean.” She said. “This seems a common theme here. Did all of the cool adults I know started as such meanies? And what are we studying?”
“Chemistry and Physics.” He replies, pulling out his school schedule for her to see. “Exams are coming up soon, so I’m starting with my sciences.”
“I know a bit Chem.. Can’t you at least start with subjects I actually study?”
“Which ones do you have to work on?”
“Probably nothing you take, but I also can flack on my exams and no one will say a word.” She pulled her shoulders. “I just really don’t want to do science. I think I can help with math, though!”
“I don’t need help.” He starts to reject her help but frowns. “….but since you have to be here I guess you can check my work.”
“Okay!” She agreed. “So why  am I babysitting you?”
“Pretty sure I’m older than you for one.” He replies with an amused scoff before frowning again. “As for why you’re ‘babysitting’ me, I don’t know why. I really don’t need it.”
“Well, yeah? You will have kids just few years younger than me. We babysat.” Sora pulls her shoulders. “Last time mom had me do it was, like, five years ago in my timeline. It’s been forever. What did you do she didn’t like?”
“She thinks I’m working myself too hard.” He grumbles as he begins to study.
“…She has a good reason to watch out for people like this. When are your exams?” “Before we get out on winter break. ”
“…So you are studying too much and mom is worried? Did I get that right?”
“Minus the studying too much because I’m not.” He denies.
“…Who under 18 did you talk too lately? Out of class?”
“….Jataro.” He says after a moment. “He messaged me asking if I was alright few days ago.”
“That’s not interaction, that means he was concerned to you.” She sighed. “Now I see what mom wanted. Here, let’s do something fun.”
“But there isn’t any time to have fun-” He begins to protest.
“There is always time to have fun.” She declared, grabbing his hand. “Come.”
Damian grabs his things right before he is pulled away.
She pulls him towards the art room. “Art. I know you like it.”
“How do you know- from the future, right.”
“I mean… I assumed that the Hope’s Peak art teacher would enjoy art. Draw something.”
“Art teacher?” He looks at her in disbelief. Surely he did something bigger than teach art. It was just a hobby after all!
“Do you want me to tell you about my uncle Damian?”
“Um, sure. Just don’t tell me too much. I remember time travel rules.” He says quickly, taking a seat. While he turns to focus on her, he can’t help but glance at the easel. He hadn’t drawn anything outside of class as of recent…even with the more frequent dreams he’s had.
“My uncle Damian is both an art teacher and the  right hand of a yakuza clan leader. He is tall and strong, and really cool.”
“No way.” He says laughing for just a moment. “I got tall and I join the Yakuza. I wonder how that happened with the Kuzuryuu’s…”
“…It didn’t. You married a yakuza clan leader.”
  “What?” He looks shocked.
“You married a yakuza clan leader and had two kids. I did babysitting on both. We all did. We have way too many cousins that can deal with weapons to be trusted with normal babysitters.”
“Uh….wow.” He pauses, taking the information in. “How did I do that…” He thinks aloud.
“You married aunt Yukari.” She said, confused.
“Oh, I married Yukari. That makes sense- wait what?” He catches himself from falling off his stool he sat in.
“Is something wrong? And why aren’t you arting… is this a verb?”
“I…sorry, but I don’t think that will happen this time.” He turns away as his expression hardens.
“Is something wrong?” She asked. “Did I say something wrong? Do you need a hug? I’m good at these.”
“No, you wouldn’t know. We’ll maybe you would but- Yukari doesn’t return my feelings. That’s all.” He says bluntly before picking up tools to draw.
“I’m sorry.” Another thing to the mental list of things she messed up. (The twins. Sophie and Hideaki, Hiro, Taka and Tsuba… and those were just the people)
“Wasn’t your fault. Unless you spoke to her, time travel doesn’t work like that.” He says before drawing in silence for a few minutes.
“…My version of time travel seems to work like this.”
  “What do you mean?”
“As much as anyone could determine, us being here made a… wave in the time space something and made shit happen. For example,  the body swap thing back in February seems to be the direct cause of Akio coming.”
“You mean a ripple in the timeline? Like Flashpoint.”
“I don’t know this term, I’m afraid.” She said. “Is this slang?”
“No, it was a comic event where this one guy change an event in his life and different events in the timeline changed.”
  “pretty much? I think?”
“Mmm” He pauses his drawing, pencil on his cheek in thought. “I still don’t think it was you guys. Don’t put all the blame on yourself.”
“Not ourselves. Me. I played with a time machine.”
  “So?”
“My fault… But we’re not here because of me. What are you drawing?”
“I decided to draw what you told me about the future. Without faces in case….in case of something, I don’t know what.”
“I think I’d want to see it when you are done.” She said. “I would have drawn something, but I’ve been told I should try and stop drawing purple cats as the answer to everything.”
“Do you want to look at what I have so far?”
“Yes.” Sora agreed. “I wanna see it.”
Damian scoots aside, letting her see a picture of an himself imagined a bit older alongside Yukari. “I don’t know much about you guys, or my own kids so I started with what I know.”
She touches few things, makes some brief changes with her finger. She can see their faces so clearly.
“How does it look?” He asks curiously.
“Almost.” She said. “Very very close.”
He smiles at that, though it wavers looking over at Yukari.
Sora cuddles into him, almost automatically.
Damian looks at Sora, surprised at her action, unused to such interactions after so long. After a moment, he turns back to his drawing letting his brush pour out his emotions and stress for the moment.
She lets him draw, watching his brush moving.
“Can you tell a little bit about yourself and everyone else from your time? I admit I’m curious.”
“Of course… But you’ll have to be more specific, otherways I’d blubber and say too much.”
He pauses, unsure how much he could really ask without consequences. “Tell me about my kids.”
“Takuyuki and Tsubasa. I love them. Even if babysitting them is sometimes worse than babysitting Jiro.”
  “Jiro?”
“Jiro Ootonashi… He’s Mitsi’s nephew, so he and his sister spend time around when they’re parents need a break.”
“Right. Well…how bad is taking care of my kids?”
“We enjoy it.. But I somehow think you all less. Especially when Jiro is visiting.  Too many kids with weapons sounds like something people would try to avoid. And Taka is going to end up being taller than me and it’s not fair.”
He cracks a smile at that. “I’m sure it’s pretty unfair.” An unwanted yawn escapes him suddenly.
“You sound tired.” She said. “Do you want to sleep?”
“Not now…” He rubs his eyes in an effort to get the sleep out. “I still have things to do.”
“What kind of things?” She asked. “Surely nothing you can’t reject to get the service of the best teddy bear at school? I cuddle back!”
“Just studying a bit more is all.” He chuckles at her offer.
“Nope. No more studying today from you.”
  “Sora…” Damian mutters in protest.
  “What?”
  “….nevermind, I’ll rest. It’s late after all.”
“Good.” She pulls his hand. “Do you want me to play teddy bear?”
“You don’t have to, I’ll be fine.” He says as he cleans up everything.
“…Please do not consider me a factor. What do you want?”
“I’m just turning in for the night.” He tries to reassure her. “I’ll see you tomorrow alright?”
“This is not what I asked. I asked if you want a teddy bear or not, and said that my comfort would not be a factor, meaning I don’t have to do anything.”
“Not tonight then.” He says simply, though a part of him is reluctant to reject.
“Alright.” The dark haired pulled her shoulders. “But sleep, okay?”
“I will.” He nods. “I promise.”
“Good.” She said, petting his shoulder briefly.
“Night Sora.” Damian waves goodbye, slinging his bag over his shoulder.
“Night.” She said, completely not stalking him on his way to his room- it’s her house she knows all the hidden corners. And by that I mean she totally stalked him all the way to his room
Damian makes it to his room, shutting the door behind him. Once he locks the door, he lets out a breath he didn’t know he was holding
She pauses near the door of his room, floating there for a moment, before starting to walk towards her room.
Turning away from the door he sits on the bed and lies back. It was nice to relax, but he still couldn’t help but feel like he was wasting time. He knew Naomi and Sora meant well, but he still couldn’t bring himself to tell them what’s going on. He wasn’t sure who to talk to at all, or if he even could, not after everything. “…I’ll just have to keep getting better.” He says to himself. “I have to make sure nothing like that happens again.”
____
When leaves his room the next morning, Sora is sitting next to the door, reading a book.
“Sora?” He looks startled at her presence there. “What are you doing up so early?”
“I grew up with Kaede in the room. I can’t sleep late. How did you sleep?”
“I slept okay.” He replies, not really wanting to talk about his dreams.
“Alright, then.” She is closing her book, raising eyes to him.
“…Are you just going to follow me until Miss Naomi says otherwise?”
“Nope.” She said. “I’m going to follow you until I am sure you are not overworking yourself.
”….same difference.“ He sighs, slinging his bag over his shoulder and headed to the cafeteria.
"Nope! I’m more annoying than mom!” She followed him, red skirt floats around her as she runs down the hall.
“Not something you say out loud.” He snarks back. They arrive at the cafeteria, Damian grabbing hot chocolate, pancakes,  water and an apple.
“Why not?” She asked, making herself coffee. “It’s the truth.”
“Doesn’t mean you tell the world.” Damian replies before finding a seat and starting to eat.
“Why wouldn’t I tell the world things I don’t mind anyone knowing?” She asked, confused, getting toast and sitting to the table.
He doesn’t reply to her question- mainly because he didn’t have a good retort- and keeps eating in silence.
She eats her toast and drinks her coffee. “Do you want me to leave you be?”
“I’d rather not have you trailing me all day, but it doesn’t matter if you do. I’ll just keep doing what I’m doing until I prove I’m not overworking.”
She looks at him. “Why are you not interacting with anyone, then?”
“I’ve just been really busy…” He answers not too convincingly.
“…Yeah, I don’t buy it. You are usually a much better liar.”
“….I’d rather not talk about it.” He grumbles, taking a sip out of the mug he held.
“Hmpff. It makes you feel better.”
Looking at the time, Damian gets up and throws away his trash. “I’m headed to class, see you later probably.”
  “Okay, See ya.”
  ____
Sora is waiting by the class door, still reading a book. It looks natural enough, so someone could think this was just where she chose to sit.
Stepping outside, Damian immediately notices her holding back a groan. “Hey Sora…”
“Hi.” She said, not raising eyes from her book.
“I’m training today with Coach Nidai. You coming along?”
“Yeah, I do.” She agreed. “Pull me up?” She gave him her hand.
He takes it and pulls her up. “Let’s go.”
Sora jumps on her feet, following him.
A few minutes later Damian is out jogging the track, Nidai waiting at the finish line.
Sora, barefooted, runs after him. She is not running on full speed, giving him distance and also because she is not sure she can catch him, so why try.
“Your pace is getting better, but you need to steady your form! Make sure you get some rest before our next session!” Nekomaru critique’s Damian before turning to leave. “Don’t stay out too long, and make sure you take a good SHIIIIIIIIIII-” The door to the school shuts before he finishes his sentence.
Sora speeds herself, reaching Damian “See? Even he thinks you should sleep more.”
Damian sits at a bench, taking a breather before responding. "I’m fine.”
“…I have no idea how did it take them so long to figure you were working for Storm, you are a terrible liar.”
“And you pry too much.” He snaps back. “I’m just trying my hardest to not let anything happen to this school again!”
“I’m trying to make sure my family is fine!” She yells back on him. “I’m trying to make sure everyone I love will still be here for mini me, and it’s hard and I’m lost and I still want as many people as I can to be fine, and letting you kill yourself is no help!”
“I’m not going to kill myself!”
She pokes him for a moment. “You are if you continue like that.”
He steps back catching himself. His tone gets low with anger. “Continue like what Sora? I’m just making myself stronger and smarter than I was before!”
“There are things more important than being strong and smart.” She said. “Many other things.”
“Like what? Please tell me, what can be better than making myself better for everyone here?”
“Being nice and kind and spending time with your friends and let them help.” “I have to do this alone, I can’t ask for their help. I have to prove myself worth being there for them.” “…I don’t think that you need to prove anything to anyone.”
“You don’t get it!” Damian shouts. “I have to do this, because everything that happened was my fault!”
“…How exactly?” She is going to  slap him if he doesn’t stop and listen…
…Oh. Now she gets why everyone hates when she gets like this.
Damian looks away, realizing what he said. “I let him in, I fell for his manipulation and by doing so other despairs were able to get into the school. I didn’t even realize who they were until Tanaka and Hiro’s deaths. We don’t even know if all if them are gone. For all we know the people who crashed Miss Naomi’s wedding with an escape pod could be more.
"Even in the attack on the school, I was helpless. Everyone else was here, defending the school and all I did was run. I’m weak Sora. I’ve been a puppet this whole time, and when the chance to cut my strings came, I didn’t take the final shot.”
“…None of us figured them out. If someone, we- the five of us, i mean- should have, and we didn’t.” She wraps her hands around him. “You told Maverick Storm no. I don’t think you understand how strong it makes you.”
“This is why I’m doing this….” He can’t stop himself from shaking as tears threaten to fall. “I don’t want to be toyed with again, and I want to be able to help…”
She holds him quietly.  "You are stronger than you think you are.“
”…“ He doesn’t respond, closing his eyes and trying get himself to breathe.
"You need to sleep. Do you want me to walk you to your room?”
He nods his head, wiping his face with his sleeve.
She grabs his hand, pressing it as they start walking. Eventually they enter his room.
“….thanks.” He says simply as he let’s go of her hand. “For listening at least. But I think you’re wrong about me. I’m just a dumb kid with a bow.”
“The best art teacher I ever had.” She pulls her shoulders. “Do you need a teddy bear?”
“N-no, I’ll be alright.” Damian says quickly.
  “Okay. But please, sleep. Okay?”
  “I will, good night Sora.”
“Good night.” She turned away and left.
____
The bell rings and classes are done for the day. Damian steps out the classroom, bag slinged. “…hey.”
“Yo!” She waves to him. “Missed me?”
  “Not really.” He says sarcastically.
  “Oh.” Her smile disappeared.
“H-hey, it was just a little joke!” He says quickly.
“Haa?”
“Sarcasm? No? Er, anyway…I was going to go find what Jataro is up to, did you want to come along?”
She shakes her head. “I won’t bother you.” She’d shade him, just to make sure he is not lying, but she’d leave once she is sure.
“Oh, alright. I just figured it would make it easier to follow me rather than sneak after me.” He says with a slight smirk.
“Whatcha talking about?”
“Eh, nothing then.” He shrugs. “I guess I’ll get going now.”
“Bye.” She waves.

Danganronpa: Another IF (Chapter 3, Part 1)
            “Um… Naegi?”
It was the night following the second Class Trial, and everyone had headed for their dorm rooms. The Luckster had been moving to do the same, hand on the door handle, seeing as how Maizono had still been keeping her distance. He was worried about her, but he didn’t want to force her to say anything.
            “Yeah, what’s up?”
… But seeing as how she was appearing shy again, he figured he’d be amicable and listen to her. It was the least he could do, after the hellish trial they’d gone through… and the gruesome execution they were forced to bear witness to once again.
“M-Maybe I have no right requesting this from you… Y-You’re free to turn me down. But… could… Could we talk in your room, just for a little bit?” Maizono was unable to meet Naegi’s eyes as her cheeks pinked. “I w-want to tell you something, and I just… want to make sure no one else hears…”
“S-Sure!” Naegi’s face was heating up, too, and he felt his heartbeat racing. Before he made the situation awkward, getting caught up in the moment, Naegi opened his door and gestured invitingly. “C’mon…!”
Before Naegi knew it, he felt a pair of arms wrapped around his neck, and something soft on his lips. It took the Luckster about five seconds to realize that Maizono was… kissing him… And he was fully frozen in place the whole time the idol was doing it. When Sayaka pulled back for breath, there was a genuine smile on her face, and she was blushing up a storm.
“Sorry~. I couldn’t hold it off any longer!” She giggled at his gobsmacked expression. “I wanted to wait until we got out of here… but I don’t want to leave any regrets. I want to reaffirm my feelings for you before I lose my nerve!”
With sweaty palms, Naegi took ahold of her hand and brought her inside his room, blushing just as much as she was. The idol’s tinkling laughter following them inside as he shut the door.
            ~*~
The next morning, only ten people showed up to breakfast. Naegi, Maizono, Leon, Kirigiri, Sakura, Mondo, Fujisaki, Junko, Celes, and Yamada. As expected, the Ultimate Affluent Progeny was nowhere to be seen.
“I suppose our first order of business should be deciding a new leader…” Sakura solemnly spoke as they all sat down.
“I guess so…” Leon agreed. “Morale’s not lookin’ too good, huh?”
“Why not appoint Miss Celestia Ludenberg?” Yamada proposed. Celes merely giggled as she folded her bands beneath her chin.
“That is very sweet, but I could not possibly lead when my subjects do not listen to me. Such as with the curfew… and the ability to adapt…” Practically everyone sweatdropped with the first example. She’d broken her own curfew, after all.
“U-Um… Leon could do it?” Fujisaki suggested. “O-Or Mondo…”
Leon rubbed the back of his head sheepishly.
“Bein’ the Ultimate Baseball Star, I guess I give off a ‘leader’ type of vibe, but I’m not really cut out for that…”
            Mondo also shook his head.
“Sorry, kid… I’m still out of it. I wanna do that eventually, pick up where bro left off. But… just not now.”
“I dunno…” Junko swung her legs back and forth lazily. “Sakura seemed okay-ish with it, kickstarting this meeting. Why not have her do it?”
“I… must politely decline.” Sakura said, frowning. She cited no reason for her refusal.
            Celes giggled again.
“Here is a novel idea… Why not have Makoto take up the reins?”
Makoto blinked in shock as he gestured at himself.
“M-Me? I’m not on the same level as you guys… I don’t have any… leadership qualities…” The Luckster scratched his cheek sheepishly.
“Out of everyone here, Monokuma has yet to truly break you.” Kirigiri pointed out. “Moreover, you keep everyone united as best as you can. In an environment like this… we really do need undying optimism such as yours.”
“She’s right!” Sayaka beamed at the Luckster.
“No complaints here~.” Junko grinned and flashed a peace sign.
“Sounds good!” Leon consented as well. It quickly became obvious that that would be the trend. Even Mondo, who’d punched his lights out on the first day, agreed he could get behind that. If Togami had been present, he likely would have challenged Naegi’s qualifications, but he wasn’t there, so no one was opposed.
“At any rate… What should we do from here?” Yamada pressed on. “We can’t find an exit… and nobody’s coming to save us… Guh! Just saying so depresses me…”
“We just need to make friends and live here together peacefully.” The Ultimate Gambler suggested. “Forget about the outside world and embrace our new lives here. That is our one glimmer of hope right now.”
“I can’t imagine… living in this place forever…” Naegi shook his head.
“We have food and clothing in abundance, and no lack of conveniences… What is there to be dissatisfied about? I ask you, what more does the outside world have to offer?” There was something about how Celes looked as she asked that those questions that got Naegi starting to think her mantra about ‘adapting’ was a lie… Quite frankly, the gambler looked miserable… though, this place tended to have that effect on them. And just as quickly as that depressed look had flashed across her face, it disappeared. “Competition, discrimination, sacrifice, violence… As society grows in size, so too does its sadism… On the contrary, we’re better off here…”
“’Heretical Angel * Super Squishy Princess’…!” Yamada abruptly blurted out, confusing Celes and everyone else.
“What was that?” The gambler snorted out in amusement.
“Drillshop Megu, The Bunny-Eared Amazoness, Catgirl Dogboy, Galactic King Justice Robo… And, and, and…” Yamada let out a shriek of frustration. “At any rate, there is no 2D in this place!!!”
“It is because you and everyone else cling to your desires that the Puppetmaster has so much control…” Celes tsk’ed.
“Anyway…” Leon sighed as he didn’t like the routes that conversation was leading to. Yamada being an otaku, and Celes being… Celes. “Shouldn’t we be headin’ out soon? There’s gotta be new places open to us now.”
Mondo rubbed the back of his neck.
“Yeah… That’s how it went last time. Trial, then exploration.”
“Very well. After breakfast, we shall split up and begin the exploration. Is that agreeable, Celes?”
            The gambler giggled pleasantly.
“I’m certain there are discoveries just waiting to be made that will further enrich our lives here…”
“Yeeeah…” Junko drawled. “Clues about the mastermind and ways of escape are still our highest priority…”
Naegi didn’t feel like much of a leader just sitting there, but he supposed everyone’s decisions were sensible… He still wanted to talk to Celes again at some point, try to understand her better.
            ~*~
“So… the third floor of Hope’s Peak Academy opened up this time…” Naegi muttered as he reached the top of the stairs. There was one door immediately close to the stairs, but he didn’t peek into that room yet. Around a corner to the right of the stairs, there were a couple more classrooms, which Sakura and Mondo were looking into.
Deciding to leave the classrooms and windows to them, Naegi and Maizono went back to the room closest to the stairs. When they entered, they found Leon and Celes in what looked like a rec room.
“Yo, Naegi! Looks like they got a pool table! Darts, too!” The baseball star grinned.
“Billiards, darts… Othello and Shogi… They even have some magazines~.” Celes gestured to the rack. “We have no dearth of cures for boredom.”
And then, Monokuma had to rear his head…
“Dun dun-dun-dun dun duuun! I has some additional intelligence!” The bear proclaimed proudly. “While there’s fashion, motorcycle, martial arts, gaming, baseball, soccer, PC mags, and more… you won’t find anything dirty. I mean, this is a school. You’ll just have to live with a few risqué pinups!”
“When new issues of these magazines are published, will they be made available to us?” Celes asked curiously. Monokuma rubbed the back of his head bashfully.
“No can do~. Even if I wanted to, the magazines themselves…” The bear ‘caught’ himself, giggling. “Ack! Nevermiiind! That’s all the intel for now, buh-bye!”
“That was… weird.” Maizono mused. Leon rubbed the back of his head in aggravation.
“Always teasing out new info… Just when are we supposed to get some answers here?”
“Well... There’s nothing that can be done about it right now, I guess…” Naegi muttered.
“It’s a pity… It would quite enrich our lives if we were to receive new reading material from time to time.” Celes lamented.
After looking around the rec room a bit longer, Naegi and Maizono parted ways with Celes and Leon. And as they navigated through the halls, both the Luckster and idol realized it was a sizeable floor. There was a ton of hallway space, lots of twists and turns. They found Kirigiri loitering in the halls, deep in thought.
The next room they found looked to be an art room – canvases, statues, statues, chairs, and art tools littering the room, and a wall toward the back that was peppered with sketches that looked to be drawn by high schoolers. There were some lockers, too, but they were empty. Yamada was in this room,
“Well, well, well… what a fine establishment this is. My artsy sense is tingling!” Yamada proudly placed his hands on his hips. “Not only is there a bounty of painting supplies, there’s quite the selection of sculpting tools!”
“You’re into sculpting, Yamada?” Naegi asked curiously. The otaku fiddled with his glasses, grinning.
“Generally speaking, I partake not of the 3D world. But ah, figures are different – they’re practically 2D.”
‘Not sure how he’s defining ‘practically’…’
“I’m particularly fond of the works of Charanbo, Pumpkinhead, and Saburou Roppongi… ‘Mama Cat’ exemplifies Charanbo’s distinct style through his sublime rendering of the feline form. Pumpkinhead produces the highest-class faerie model prototypes of anyone this century… Saburou Roppongi, master of the posable figure, went overseas proselytizing about mech-girls… All of whom are perfectly suited to be named the Elite Four of the Figure World!”
            Naegi and Maizono blinked.
“The Elite Four? But there’s only three…”
“’Elite Three’ simply sounds foolish! Furthermore, the reason one seat remains unclaimed… Precisely! ‘Tis for myself! Heh heh heh, and so begins… The Legend of Hifumi Yamada: Conqueror of the Apocalypse…”
“Mmm’kay… Good luck with that…” The Luckster sweatdropped. Maizono seemed to have a bad feeling about Yamada’s…. mood… and she tugged Naegi along toward the room in the back, which appeared to be a storage room. Various supplies were stored there, like a trolley and wooden hammers.
The thing that drew their attention, however, was not the tools, but a single picture lying on the floor. What was intriguing was the occupants of the picture. It looked to be some sort of festival, and there were a couple of booths depicted – booths that were run by Hagakure and Fukawa. The former was telling fortunes and laughing, while the other was doing a book signing and looking bashful about getting attention from fans.
“Wh-What is this…?” Maizono wondered aloud.
“Why the two of them?” Naegi also wondered. Question after question flooded their minds; the picture didn’t look like it was taken at the academy, and the two looked happy. It was all so bizarre…
“Give that back! It’s mine!” Monokuma suddenly appeared, swiping the photograph. He laughed at their dumbfounded expressions. “Uh-oh~! Didja see it? Them’s some nice smiles, huh? They’re enjoying the academy life… It’s like a page out of the book of youth~!”
“What do you know about that picture?” Naegi demanded.
“Not telling~!” Monokuma teased and abruptly left.
The Luckster and idol shared confused glances before they reluctantly left the storage and art rooms. They weren’t going to get answers by staying there; there was more of the third floor to explore, anyway. They eventually came across another gate, which appeared to lead to a fourth floor. And a few more turns in the hall led them to what was apparently a physics lab…
“Ya just missed him,” Junko said as the two got a look around the lab that appeared more like a research facility, “But the bear said this huge machine is an air purifier. It’s kinda the reason we’re able to breathe in here, with the academy sealed off as it is.”
            Fujisaki looked a bit depressed.
“Yeah… But he was cruel about explaining it, saying it was a time machine at first…”
            Junko just sighed exasperatedly.
“I can’t wait to get my hands on the jerk controlling that thing…”
Attached to the physics lap, there was another storage room that seemed to function as a prep room for the lab. But the main thing that captured everyone’s attention was the camera on a table in the physics lab; it had a bizarre anime character imprinted on it, and it was a bit dusty, but it looked like something Yamada would own.
            ~*~
Sometime later, they all met back up in the cafeteria to discuss their findings. As expected, Togami was missing from that meeting, too. Apparently, he’d grabbed some books from the library, and was reading in the changing room for the sauna.
“The third floor has a physics lab…” Fujisaki started them off.
“Yeah, it’s got an air purifier as its main attraction.” Junko remarked. “Supposedly provides all the clean air in the academy since we’re, y’know, sealed off.”
Mondo rubbed the back of his neck.
“Yeah… On that note, the metal plates covering the windows are screwed on just as tight on the third floor… Still no way out.”
“I’m sad to say, it hardly comes as a surprise at this point…” Sakura murmured.
Yamada tried to lift their spirits up.
“Well, there’s an art room now, at least! I can finally draw my anime characters!”
“Oh yeah… we did find a camera in the physics lab.” Maizono said as she held it up for everyone to see.
            “A digital camera…” Kirigiri noted.
            “Does it work?” Leon asked.
            “Seems to.” Naegi replied.
            Fujisaki hung his head sadly.
“Yeah, but the picture quality is low… There’s only room enough to save five photos, and there’s not even a self-timer. I’m sorry…”
“Jeez, there’s no need to apologize…” Mondo tried to cheer Fujisaki up. “It looks like a kids’ toy, anyway.”
“The design looks to be some sort of cartoon character,” Celes agreed.
            Yamada was clearly affronted.
“Excuse me?! That’s Princess Buuko from ‘Heretical Angel * Super Squishy Princess’!”
“Do you know what this is, Yamada?” Naegi scratched his cheek nervously.
“Do I know what it is!? This digital camera was awarded to the victor of the bingo tournament… held at the special event commemorating ‘Heretical Angel’s’ anime adaptation… It’s stupendously rare. I managed to convince the victor to bequeath it to me for a large sum… Hey! That’s mine!”
“What?!” Naegi, and everyone else, was flabbergasted.
            “Wh-Where did you find it?!”
“L-Like Maizono said, it was in the physics lab…” The Luckster answered hesitantly.
“I brought it with me because it’s my treasure, but it vanished on the first day with my cell phone…” Yamada explained.
“Why would something like that be in the physics lab?” Celes wondered.
“And why…” Yamada demanded. “… is it so dirty? I feel like a stamp collector who’s come home and found his collection used on a bunch of love letters. Oh, whatever…”
“Whatever?” Maizono tilted her head curiously.
“It’s no longer pure… I have no need for it…”
“It sounded like you really cared about it, though…” Naegi pointed out. Celes smiled pleasantly.
“Then is it alright if I hold onto it? It could prove useful. And if anyone finds themselves in need of a digital camera, feel free to call upon me.”
“I can’t see a camera getting much use here…” Junko bluntly replied. Naegi shrugged neutrally.
            “You’re probably right.”
Leon ran a hand through his hair casually.
“Well, the only other thing on the third floor was the rec room.”
“It will undoubtedly enrich our lives here quite considerably.” Celes remarked. “Ehehe… I would very much like to play a game of Othello with someone.”
“While it isn’t related to the third floor, it would appear the infirmary is now open.” Kirigiri reported.
“Is there any protein? Even supplements would suffice.” Sakura asked curiously. The mysterious girl shook her head.
“Only medicine and other medical supplies.”
“I see… that is quite unfortunate.”
“I guess that leaves me and Maizono…” Naegi mused. “We saw all the stuff you guys did, but I guess the unique thing we found was a photograph…”
“Yeah, that photo was weird… Monokuma ran off with it, though.” Sayaka mumbled.
“Weird like perverted?” Leon cocked his head.
“Not that kind of weird…” Naegi corrected him. “It was a photo of Hagakure and Fukawa. It looked like they were at some kind of festival, running some booths.”
            “Those two?” Kirigiri asked.
“Yeah… the weird thing was they looked really… happy. I dunno, it seemed like they made it outside, somehow.”
“When could a photograph like that have been taken? With the two of them happy…” Yamada wondered.
“I never heard that they knew each other before the academy…” Celes mused.
            Sayaka nodded.
“True… I mean, the booths weren’t side-by-side or anything, but they would’ve at least seen each other if they were at a festival like that. It’s weird how they seemed like they’d never even seen each other before.”
“Surely you were just seeing things.” Yamada asserted. “’Twas an illusion conjured by Monokuma’s Malignant Gaze…”
“But Maizono and I both saw it!” Naegi objected. “It’s kind of hard for two people to have the exact same hallucination…”
“That’s true…” Leon conceded. “But think about it, dude. It couldn’t have been taken before they got here, and it definitely didn’t happen while they were here. And they shouldn’t have been able to have escaped somehow, ‘cause… well… We saw ‘em, y’know? They’re definitely dead.”
“M-Maybe it was photoshopped…” Fujisaki proposed.
“I can’t see it being anything other than a fabrication…” Celes confessed, agreeing with the programmer.
“Just forget about Monokuma’s stupid pranks.” Mondo spoke frankly. “We ain’t got time to be scratchin’ our heads over that crap.”
“Yeah… We should focus on getting out of here, and getting ready for Monokuma’s next motive… That guy just won’t quit.” Junko agreed.
Fresh out of leads, the group settled into an uncertain silence. While there were new accessible areas, the fact remained none of them would help in the long run. A rec room, an art room, and a physics lab. All were interesting, but not practical for their circumstances.
Fujisaki particularly looked contemplative, before he piped up with a peculiar request.
“Hey, um… Would you all mind joining me in the changing room?” Not bothering to elaborate, the programmer stood up and shuffled off nervously. Too curious not to follow, the group left the cafeteria.
            ~*~
Apparently, Togami was not in the changing room anymore. And quite a few of them were happy for it.
“So, what’s up, Fujisaki?” Makoto asked. Leon scratched his head.
            “Why meet in here?”
“O-Oh. Well, this is the only room I’ve found where there aren’t any security cameras!” The programmer explained. He then pulled out a laptop from a locker. “S-So… When I got this computer working again, I figured this was the best place to hide it! It’s my way of trying to help everyone!”
“That’s the laptop from the library… I see.” Kirigiri mused. “Were you able to find any information?”
“Well… I think I’ll let my program explain. It’s an AI called Alter Ego!” The programmer beamed.
            “AI?” Junko cocked her head.
“Alter Ego is the reason Fujisaki is called the Ultimate Programmer.” Kirigiri explained. “Alter Ego is a program, residing on a computer, that learns and develops through communication. It’s an innovative, revolutionary artificial intelligence, built upon and refined… from the concepts of support vector machines and reinforcement learning…”
“Vector machines? Reinforcement learning?” Naegi was among the confused.
“To put it simply, it’s a way for machines to learn… As the artificial intelligence continues to grow, it becomes more than just a simple assistant… They say it can eventually be used in place of humans for the majority of tasks.” Kirigiri finished her explanation, and Chihiro seemed a little relieved to not have to say all that.
“You sure know a lot, Kirigiri! I’m impressed!” He giggled.
“So that’s why it’s called Alter Ego… An apt name indeed.” Celes complimented Fujisaki. “It develops by building memories and using them in its thought process – just like a human. An artificial intelligence raised in that manner could indeed be considered one’s alternate personality.”
“A perfect personality – one that never forgets, never weakens… That is his program… That is… Alter Ego…”
It was hard not to be impressed. Even to the people who had little to no knowledge of computers, it sounded like Fujisaki had made something incredible.
“Ah, you’ve come for me, My Lord!” Fujisaki’s smiling face was suddenly on the computer screen, and the program even had his voice.
Mondo looked between the screen and Fujisaki.
“Th-There’s two of ‘em…” He muttered.
            Yamada stroked his chin excitedly.
            “Mmm! She calls you, ‘My Lord’! I see, I see… That’s so unbelievably… adorable~!”
“What happened to being 2D-only, tubs?” Leon raised an unimpressed eyebrow, arms crossed.
“She is a fine specimen of the second dimension!” Yamada cheered.
“Do you not even remember the last trial? Fujisaki’s a guy! So Alter Ego’s a guy! And he’s an artificial intelligence!”
“I see no problem here~.” Yamada nodded sagely. Leon just groaned.
After a short bit of typing on the keyboard, Alter Ego started speaking again.
“There’s a large quantity of files on the hard drive that My Lord wanted me to analyze… He thinks they’re documents concerning the academy, but they’re surprisingly well-secured… So it’s taking a bit of time…”
At their inquiring gazes, Chihiro elaborated.
“I’m not sure yet, but the files might be related to the secrets of the academy! That might be why they’re so well-encrypted.”
“How long will it take you to decrypt them?” Kirigiri asked.
“It’s definitely going to take some time…” The programmer apologized. “Alter Ego just started on them yesterday, and he’s got a ways to go still… I’m sorry…”
“No need to apologize!” Sayaka assured him.
“Any information will be helpful, so it’ll be worth the wait!” Naegi chipped in.
“We’ll need to keep Alter Ego a secret…” Kirigiri decided. “Can he lie low without drawing attention to himself?”
“It’ll be fine!” Fujisaki promised. “Like I said, there are no cameras in this room, and Alter Ego will be able to call out for help if he sees anyone suspicious through the webcam!”
            Celes hummed doubtfully.
“While that will be no issue during the day, I’m worried about nighttime… Do recall that our rooms are completely soundproof…”
            Kirigiri cupped her chin thoughtfully.
“I’ll leave the door to my room open during the nighttime… That way, I won’t fail to notice if Alter Ego starts to scream.”
            Mondo’s hand twitched in concern.
“But if you leave your door wide open like that…”
“Yes, there’s a chance I could be killed.” Kirigiri did not deny the possibility. “But… could any of you really kill me? I don’t think I’ll die that easily.”
Sayaka ran a hand through her hair nervously. There was something about Kirigiri’s tone that put them on edge, but at the same time made them confident that their newest source of hope would be safe at all times.
“L-Let’s leave it to Kirigiri… She hasn’t let us down yet.”
“Y-Yeah…” Leon agreed with a nod.
Kirigiri calmly closed her eyes and started walking toward the exit.
“Well, I think that will do it for today… If we stay here too long, the Puppetmaster might take notice.”
No one objected. Fujisaki set the laptop back in the locker and left it open a crack, as it had been before. Admittedly, that first night putting Alter Ego in the changing room had frightened him; but now that he had told everyone else, he felt he’d made the right call. Even if he had a long ways to go yet, Chihiro Fujisaki felt like he was making progress to becoming stronger – not just in body, but his character as well.

Best Anime Movies To Watch – OtakuKart
Looking for some Marvelous Anime movie? I have got you some astonishing hand-picked collection of the movie. Here is a list of  Top 10 Best Anime Movies You Must Watch. So without any further delay let’s start with our Top 10 Anime Movie List
Top 10 Best Anime Movies Of All Time
Patlabor: The Movie (1989)
Many of the films on this list are here because they’re landmark films for their directors, or that they move the art form of Japanese animation forward in meaningful ways. Patlabor is just a good-ass movie made by a bunch of talented people, including future Ghost in the Shell collaborators Mamoru Oshii and I.G Tatsunoko (the early name for the production company that would become Production I.G). Set in the distant future of 1999, Patlabor’s hardboiled sci-fi police procedural explores the connection between humanity and technology, and how we approach law enforcement in an age of automation. Also, this list would otherwise be sorely lacking in giant mech movies – this film has them in spades, and they fight a bunch. It’s pretty cool.
The Girl Who Leapt Through Time (2006)
Studio Ghibli commissioned director Mamoru Hosoda to make Howl’s Moving Castle, but sent him packing after rejecting his initial concepts. Hosoda then turned around and directed The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, an abounding and inventive dramedy that’s as entertaining as it is thought-provoking. Based on a novel by Yasutaka Tsutsui, the film follows high schooler Makoto Konno as she learns that she has the power to quite literally leap through time. First, she uses these powers to get good grades, but she quickly learns that her actions have consequences. It’s a wildly imaginative slice of life and marked the emergence of an important voice in animated films.
Your Name (2016)
Since the release of his first short film Voices of a Distant Star (which he wrote, directed, and animated by himself over seven months), Makoto Shinkai has been described by multiple critics as the next Hayao Miyazaki. With his most recent film Your Name. (yes, the period is part of the title), Shinkai finally steps out steps out of the shadows of the greats and finds his own voice. To describe it as a mere body-swapping film does it a great disservice, as it finds the humor and humanity in a situation where two young high schoolers find themselves in each others shoes and desperately want to find each other. But then, Shinkai pulls the rug out from under you halfway through and Your Name. turns into a different kind of film entirely.
Vampire Hunter D (1985)
Vampire Hunter D is often credited as being one of the first anime films specifically targeted for an older audience, and its success paved the way for many of the films on this list. It’s a slow, haunting burn that follows the titular, monosyllabic vampire hunter as he aids and protects a young woman from a demonic menace. Featuring the brooding character design of none other than Final Fantasy concept artist Yoshitaka Amano, Vampire Hunter D is the dark glimpse into the maturation of anime as a genuine theatrical art form.
Ninja Scroll (1993)
If Akira and Ghost in the Shell were the opening salvos for anime’s initial resurgence in the West as more than Saturday morning fodder, Ninja Scroll was the knockout punch. Releasing in the West around the same time as Ghost in the Shell, Ninja Scroll is a stylish, hyper-violent flurry of over-the-top battles and geysers of blood. Ex-ninja Jubei is coerced under threat of death by a Tokugawa spy to hunt down and defeat the Eight Devils of Kimon, each one with its own mystical set of powers. In an hour and a half, Jubei fights a dude whose skin can turn into stone, a naked snake lady, a guy who can melt into shadows, and a woman who plants gunpowder in people’s bodies and uses them as living time bombs.
Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind (1984)
Studio Ghibli is perhaps second only to Disney in terms of cultural relevance and worldwide recognition in animation, and Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind is where it all started. It follows the eponymous young woman as she navigates a post-apocalyptic future where venturing outside small population centers means having to contend with giant insects and a deadly miasma. Here, you will see many of Ghibli’s themes on humanity, community, mortality, and environmentalism converge, accompanied by lush hand-drawn animation and swashbuckling action.
Perfect Blue (1997)
After working as an animator on other films, Satoshi Kon made his explosive directorial debut with Perfect Blue. It’s about a J-Pop idol who leaves behind a music career to pursue acting, and the further she dives into the role, the more reality and fiction begin to blur together. Kon’s signature style seems to spring forth fully realized from the first frame, his unique take on magical realism ensuring you never see the seams until he wants you to. Kon’s career was cut short due to pancreatic cancer, but his influence can be seen everywhere, including Darren Aronofsky’s Black Swan and Christopher Nolan’s Inception.
Ghost in the Shell (1995)
Oshii’s adaptation of Masamune Shirow’s seminal graphic novel series is simultaneously one of the most influential and enigmatic anime films ever made. There’s definitely a plot here, as a team of armored police officers leads by Major Motoko Kusanagi attempt to hunt down a mysterious hacker known as the Puppet Master, but Ghost in the Shell is far more concerned with exploring the philosophical ramifications of its transhumanist themes than it is providing any sort of narrative payoff. It’s a strange one to watch, packing a lot of information and world-building into its brisk 82-minute runtime, but its length and structure allow for repeat viewings that are as rewarding as the first.
Spirited Away (2001)
If you want a good snapshot of Studio Ghibli’s history, first watch Nausicaa, then watch this one. Here is Miyazaki at the height of his craft, using advancements in animation technology to enhance but not overpower an Alice in a Wonderland-esque story filled to the brim with strange creatures and imaginative scenarios. It’s a coming of age story about a young girl who finds herself lost in a bathhouse for the spirits, interacting with an assortment of fantastical creatures as she attempts to rescue her parents. That Miyazaki still explores the consequences of the convergence of nature and technology shows how timeless and important these themes are.
Akira (1988)
Akira is a powerhouse of a film, every frame of animation exploding off the screen with kinetic energy and effortless style. It’s based off the first half of Otomo’s massive graphic novel series of the same name (the second half created after the film was completed, explaining the wild divergence in plotlines), following a group of delinquent teenagers in Neo-Tokyo decades after the end of World War 3. One of these boys, named Tetsuo, is abducted by a secretive government unit and experimented on, awakening his latent psychic abilities which quickly spiral out of control. What follows is a strange, gut-wrenching landmark of science-fiction, filled with rad bikes and an absurd amount of destruction.
