I Would Get Into Millions of Accidents Just to See You, Chapter 2 (aka Nurse Geralt AU)

Geralt is not someone who is an active social media user. He has never been.
Hell, he wouldn’t even use WhatsApp if he didn’t have to.
He thinks that apps like this make people so accessible, and leaves little privacy, and ironically, despite it’s called “social media” it makes people less social. He has lost count of how many times he has seen a group of friends sitting somewhere and scrolling through some apps on their phone or something instead of talking to each other.
Of course, it depends on one’s use, but from what he can tell, whenever you’re online, people tend to think that you have all the time in the world.
So no, thank you very much. He likes his privacy.
Whenever he says that “Social media is for people who don’t have nothing better and important to do,” Ciri just gives him The Look ™ and says: “Okay, boomer.”
He has no idea what the hell it’s supposed to mean, but he is sure it’s not something good.
Once Ciri had downloaded some dating app on his phone without his permission while he was sleeping his ass off after a very tiring night shift. That little match-maker of a girl.
And not only that, but also she had said: “I texted some of the users for you! The ones I thought you might like. One of them seemed nice, I like her energy. So, anyway, long story short, you have a date this weekend. You can thank me later.”
“Excuse me, you did what?!”
Needless to say, Ciri wasn’t allowed to use the internet for three days after that.
“I just want you to be happy,”  on the third day, Ciri had said out of the blue while they were reading I, Robot together —they were both into sci-fi, and reading was a great escape from thinking about all the things going on in life.
“You deserve love. Everyone does. Your whole life is nothing but me and your job, and… You deserve happiness, dad. You deserve love.”
“Come here,” Geralt had said, opening his arms wide for her to embrace him, which Ciri had applied.
“I am happy, pumpkin.”
“You could be happier… If there was someone you loved and dated—”
“Ciri, look. Love is… A beautiful thing.” he started ‘Even though it can be hurtful,’ was left unsaid.
“But love doesn’t necessarily mean the affection between a couple. It doesn’t just mean romantic love. Love can be in many forms, shapes, and different ways. Love of self, of animals, of nature, friends, family… We experience love every day when you think about it. You can find it in everything.  Even in a slice of homemade pie that Mrs. April brought us today.”
“I love pie! But dad, I doubt that if a slice of pie can tell you that you look lovely today. A cutie-pie on the other hand—”
“Ciri, have you been even listening to me?”
“…and a pie can’t run their fingers through your hair-”
Geralt sighs, “Why am I even trying?”
“Deep down you know I’m right. Dad… How about you just… give her a chance? For me? Just see how it goes?”
"Is it gonna make you happy if I do that?”
“So happy!”
“And you’re not gonna do something like that ever again.”
“Promise!”
“Not downloading stupid apps on my phone, and not trying to set me up.”
“You got it, Cap!”
Geralt had met with that woman, and they just didn’t click.
True to her word, Ciri never has done something like that again.

Geralt is not someone who likes social media.
But there he is, looking at the musician’s posts instead of sleeping—even though he has to get up early as always tomorrow—scrolling through the app, and feeling like a high school girl with a stupid crush.
He reads every little caption the musician had written.
Surprisingly- well, maybe not so surprisingly- his songs aren’t the only thing he posts about.
He posts about random things; sometimes it’s a pretty flower he came across this morning, sometimes it’s a kitten, a book he is currently reading, food recipes, his drawings, things like that.
His account seems like just his personality.
Filled with all the beautiful colors in the word. Filled with joy, and every little thing he shares feels so sincere. Personal.
[I tried that recipe @Brianricci has sent me and it still feels like there are fireworks in my stomach, so here’s a little drawing for you my life-saver pasta-mate.]
That one makes Geralt smile. Reminds him of that day.

“I have something for you, Mr. Should Have Been A Model But Became A Nurse For Some Reason. Not that I’m complaining, for the record. The only thing I have complaints about is your hospital’s awful food. So awful that it should be illegal. A sin, even. You’re sinning whenever you guys force people to eat that food. I can only imagine your staff’s weekly confessing: ‘Forgive me father for I’ve sinned.’
‘What’s wrong, immortal one? What did you do?’
‘Oh, father, even bathing myself in holy water can’t cleanse me from my sins! I made my patient eat that awful food, I had to, father! I had to! I had no choice! But I have faith that I can change that one day!’
‘Faith becomes you. Stay with it. Keep fighting the good fight with all thy might.’
God help him this man is so ridiculous.
“Why are you suddenly Anthony Hopkins from The Rite?”
“Eh, just felt like it,” Jaskier shrugs “Your jello is pretty good though, so, good deed point. And your nurses aren’t half bad either, so I heard.”
Jaskier winks at him.
The audacity of that man.
“Anyway! As I was saying, I have something for you—”
“I have something for you, too, Mr. Pankratz,” Geralt says. He has a good guess about what Jaskier has for him.

He had heard the staff talking about how the pretty patient in room 242 has been giving flower drawings to pretty much everyone while he was walking around.
“Why thank you, you shouldn’t have! You brought some wine for me or something? For the celebration for my third week here? You’re so kind, my good sir.”
“It’s your medicines.”
“…ever the heartbreaker. I take back everything I said. You’re the devil in disguise.”
After Geralt gives him his medicines, Jaskier pulls a scratch book under his pillow and carefully tears a page from it. He gives it to Geralt.
“I thought I was the devil in disguise?” The nurse says as he takes the drawing from him “Are you sure that you should give demons a flower draw—”
Geralt can’t finish his sentence.
Because what he is looking at certainly is not a flower drawing.
It’s a man who holds a syringe in his hand with a kind smile on his face, and the syringe is filled with cute little hearts.
It’s him.
There’s a giant cactus standing behind him for some reason Geralt finds it hard to understand why.
He has seen the other drawings, and they are nothing like this one. This one looks like Jaskier has tried his hardest to make it perfect. Put everything in it. It’s perfect and detailed as if he had drawn it while looking at Geralt. It also seems familiar for some reason.
“—in conclusion, devils are fallen angels, so…” Geralt hears Jaskier talking.
Yet he is too busy to say something as he keeps looking at the drawing in his hands.
“Ooops, did I go too far with the hearts?”
“Hm.”
“Geralt? Say something, please? Oh God, I broke my nurse. They’re sooo gonna sue me. And I don’t think I can afford a good lawyer, I’ll rot in jails, I’m too young to rot in jails, I can’t be someone’s bitch, I’m not even—”
“May I ask why is there a cactus standing behind me?”
“A comment! Phew! Finally! Well, that would be because you’re just like a cactus.”
Geralt raises an eyebrow.
“Better than being a weed, Dandelion.”
Jaskier holds his hand to his chest and gasps, feigning offense.
“Words hurt, Geralt. Words hurt.
I meant it as, like, let’s face it, you’re kinda prickly on the outside sometimes, but soft on the inside? A cactus in the desert.”
Geralt sighs.
“And now you imply that my hospital is a desert. How nice. What’s next?”
“You don’t like it?”
“It’s okay.”
It’s obviously more than okay, but teasing with the young man is fun, and everyone needs some fun in their lives once in a while.
“If you don’t appreciate my drawing just give it back,” Jaskier makes grabby hands as he pouts like a little kid that just dropped his ice cream,  “I’m pretty sure it’ll look good on my fridge anyway. No trouble for me.”
“You wouldn’t.”
“Try me.”
“I’m not giving this back. Too late, you should’ve thought that before you gave it to me. Can’t take it back now.”
“If you don’t say something nice about my spectacular drawing you can be sure that I’m gonna take it back from your hands even if that means putting up a fight.”
“How bold of you to think that you’re in a condition to put up a fight.”
“You’d be surprised. And if I can’t, your other nurse friends and your fellow patients can do it for me. I haven’t been handing out flower drawings for nothing all day.”
“And you say I am the devil in disguise.”
“I never said I was an angel, have I? Seriously though, you have ten seconds to pay a compliment to my drawing. Ten—”
“ ‘Okay’ was a compliment.”
“I beg to differ, since when ‘okay’ is a compliment? Say that to the Italian chef in Mamma Mia when he asks how is the pasta and see if he takes ‘okay’ as a compliment and doesn’t pour half-full pasta plate over your head, and ruin your favorite bee shirt. Also, nine.”
“That was oddly specific. Did that happen to you?”
“Eight, I have no idea what you’re talking about, I was just being hypothetical. Seven, six—”
“I bet he wouldn’t threaten me with taking my meal back if I did at least.”
“Sev— wait a second I was counting backwards, weren’t I? Where were we? Five!”
“Man, you’re really no good at math.”
“Wanna know what I’m good at? Many things, and fighting happens to be one of them. Four, ” Jaskier attempts to get up from the bed, somehow forgetting about his broken leg for a split second and swears: “Ah, cock!”
Geralt barely holds back a laugh at that one.
“Careful.”
“I can still verbally fight you.”
“You’ve been already doing that for the last five minutes.”
“…three.”
“You never give up, do you?” Geralt rolls his eyes with a smile, “It’s a good drawing. I really like it.”
Another lie.
He doesn’t just like it, he loves it.
But even saying that he likes it is enough to make Jaskier beam at him.
“You gave everyone a flower drawing,” he points out  “but I get a cactus and a drawing of myself, why is that? It must have taken some time to draw this.”
“A special drawing for a special nurse.” Not making eye contact, Jaskier says so softly that Geralt nearly misses it. “Yeah, it sure took some time to draw it, and my schedule was so full because of all the crazy hospital parties you guys keep throwing that I could hardly find the time, but eh, I managed somehow.”
“Sucks that they never invite me to that parties,” the nurse jokes back. “Seriously though, thank you. I appreciate it.”            
“I’d like to draw something for Ciri, too. But I’m saving it for later when I can meet her. You didn’t tell her that I’m here, right?”
“She doesn’t know.”
“Good! Keep it that way.”

Smiling at the memory, Geralt rises from his bed to take the drawing from his bedside drawer. No, of course he doesn’t look at it every day, what are you talking about?
If he hadn’t promised Jaskier that he wouldn’t let Ciri know until these two can meet in person, this drawing would be on his wall already.
Maybe next to Ciri’s painting of a white wolf.
He had considered doing so but then decided that it would be wise if he didn’t. No doubt Ciri would figure out it was Jaskier’s drawing as soon as she would see it. It was signed by him, after all. Not that Ciri couldn’t figure it out without the signature.
“What the hell, Geralt” The nurse snorts to himself and runs a hand over his face as he imagines his room filled with the drawings of his daughter, and Jaskier’s. “What are you gonna dream about next? Ciri being a flower girl at your wedding?”
Fuck.
He is totally dreaming about it now.
God, it’s crazy how much he misses him, even though he doesn’t really know him.
Ciri already is crazy about Jaskier, and Geralt looks forward to them to meet, to see how Ciri is going to react when she sees him. He feels like the two would talk non-stop, and he would just listen to them talking about God knows what.
He would have no problem with that; in fact.
“I’ll give him a call tomorrow,” he thinks.
He wants to see Jaskier again.

Being burnt out means you're probably feeling exhausted, unmotivated, unfocused and just generally "blegh" - an absolute nightmare when you're trying to stay on track with school and studying. I've suffered from academic burn out a lot but it's now something I know how to cope with, I've compiled my best tips and tricks for dealing with a burn out and how to ease yourself back into your studying!
HEADING TOWARDS A BURN OUT
You can probably feel yourself veering off track, getting a little distracted and becoming a bit exhausted - sounds like you might be on your way to burn out city. Here's my tips on how to avoid burning out:
Don’t ignore your basic needs:
I know it sounds stupid but there's basic human needs that you need to fulfil in order to function like a normal being. You have to sleep, you have to eat and you have to stay hydrated.
It's easy to miss a few hours of sleep or skip a meal here or there when you have a lot on your plate, but if you make sure you're incorporating a healthy amount of sleep, food and drink you'll be amazed at how much better you're feeling!
Learn how to say no:
If you're prone to academic burn out, you're probably an over-achiever and if you're an over-achiever, you probably over-commit yourself (like all the time). If you find you've spread yourself too thin, take a minute to reflect. Rain-check on some plans you've made, reschedule a meeting or two.
Accepting new commitments or responsibilities also means accepting new stresses and time constraints to your daily life. Learn to say no, you'll thank yourself later.
Mindfulness and thinking positive:
I know what you're thinking…"wishy washy blah blah blah, think happy thoughts and rainbows will shoot out your bum". Nope, not at all. I hate wishy washy, so I'll be real with you. Scheduling time into your daily routine just to be mindful is a simple but super effective way to make yourself feel fresh and looked after.
Being mindful can come from all sort of activities: drawing, meditating, colouring, baking…pretty much anything you fancy! My personal go-to is meditating, it gives you time to remove yourself from the stress you're feeling and you're carefree for a while. Now, meditating isn't the easiest hobby to just pick up and go so I'd definitely recommend an app that guides your meditation and keeps you in a mindful mindset - my personal favourite is called Oak! I use Oak for 10 minutes each day and really does lift a huge weight off my shoulders. Give it a try.
Exercise:
Exercise is an amazing stress reducer, whether you like it or not. Now I'm not going to convince you to join a gym or run 5k every day because that's just not realistic, is it? But learning some small exercises and implementing little bursts of them throughout your day will make you feel loads better.
Here's some small exercise hints and tips to incorporate into your daily routine: choose the stairs over an elevator at least once a day; park your car further away from school/get off a bus stop early so you have to walk more than usual; stretching your legs, arms and torso when you're sat at a desk for a while!
GOING THROUGH A BURN OUT
Let me start by saying I am so sorry you're going through a burn out, it's crappy and it's not fun but it will get better. Here's some tips for if you're feeling totally frazzled and in need of some TLC.
Don’t ignore your basic needs:
I know I've already spoken about this so I won't repeat myself… but seriously, drink some water, take a nap and eat your greens.
Let your teachers know:
I know it can feel daunting, having to let your teachers know you're having a hard time but you absolutely, positively, 100% need to. If a teacher knows you're not doing well, they will ease the pressure off you a little and they will offer you some support in terms of the academic side of your burn out. They might even recommend applying for extended deadlines, so you have all the time you need to complete any assignments. Teachers aren't monsters, they understand and they've probably been in the same situation you're in right now. Keep them updated with how you're doing, they're on your side!!
Practice realistic self-care:
By realistic I mean I'm not just going to tell you to have a bath and eat your favourite chocolate (even if that would be absolutely amazing).
Self-care is holding yourself accountable. It's getting really mundane things done because you've procrastinated them for a week while you wrote a paper. It's often the ugliest things you have to do.
Take care of your skin
Do a deep cleanse, exfoliate, face mask - the lot! If you've been too focused on your studies, you probably forgot to look after your face. You'll feel refreshed, super soft and ready to take on some more tasks
Wash your damn dishes!
If you're living alone, like me, it's very easy to let your dishes pile up when you're consumed by work. Wash them!!! You don't want flies or whatever other bugs are attracted to that week-old lasagne dish.
Take a shower, you probably smell
Again, you've probably neglected your hygiene. Taking a good, long shower can feel like you're washing all of your stresses and worries off and down the drain. Take some extra time to do a hair treatment or to shave (if that's your thing). You'll feel like a new person afterwards.
Get some fresh air
Humans needs fresh air, period. If you've been cooped up, writing papers and cramming for finals then you need some fresh air. Open a window, let the fresh air circulate through your room. Go for a walk to your local shop (maybe buy some chocolate), or head to the nearest park. Just take a few minutes to stop and breathe.
Do your laundry
There is nothing more comforting than warm, clean clothes straight out of a tumble drier. Stick some washing on, do some ironing, straighten up your wardrobe a bit. You're tackling some pretty mundane chores but there's nothing quite like the smell of freshly cleaned clothes.
GETTING BACK ON TRACK AFTER A BURN OUT
Getting back on track after a burn out can feel like you're about to jump right back into the deep end and start drowning again, let's not do that, let's get you back to where you need to be, in a way that's not going to overwhelm you!
Time planning:
This is where your main focus should be - time, time, time!
Planning and allocating time to tasks (even the simplest of tasks, like eating or showering) can help you feel organised and accomplished when you get to tick them off!
You can time-plan however you'd like -  a weekly schedule, a daily to-do list or a monthly overview! Everybody works better under different time constraints and that's okay, find what time scale works best for you and stick to it.
Super-duper decaffs pro tip: tick off things on your schedule once you've done them, it's going to make you feel all fuzzy inside and will spur you on to complete more tasks (actually scientifically proven, I'm not bullshitting you).
Arrange a meeting with your teachers:
Hopefully, you contacted your teachers when you were feeling burnt out so they're kind of in the loop. When you feel like you're ready to get back on track, contact them again and let them know. They can probably set up meetings with you to make sure you're keeping on track, avoiding another burn out. They can also suggest some more personalised tips on how to get back on track with your studies.
Don’t rush yourself:
Getting back to your usual self after a burnt out period can take time, so don't get frustrated when you're not back and kicking ass after a few days. Take time to practice all of the tips in this post, take time to look after yourself so you can avoid heading back to that awful place.
I know this post isn't massive, but I could honestly sit here all day and write about burn out. Hopefully, you can take at least one of these tips and apply it to your own life :-))

A Page From My Grimoire
Hello! I’ve been wanting to do more original content on this blog so I thought I’d share a page from my grimoire that I finished today. It’s all the information about lavender from growing, to preserving, to culinary, medicinal, and magical uses.
I’ve put it under the cut since it’s a little long. Let me know if you find this sort of thing helpful/enjoyable! For practical gardening info, I used almanac.com.
Lavender (English Lavender)
Basic Information
Scientific Name: Lavandula angustifolia
Plant Family: Mint
Climate: Hardy to Zone 5
Soil: Poor or moderately fertile. Keep away from wet, moist areas. pH from 6.0 to 7.5
Sun: Prefer full sun, but could manage partial shade with the right variety.
Growing season: Early spring through summer
Edibility/Warnings: Non-Toxic for both pets and humans
Maintenance
Planting: Plants can grow anywhere from 1-3ft tall, so make sure there’s adequate room. Plant lavender 2 to 3 feet apart. Plant in the early spring as the soil is warming up
Caretaking: Water once or twice a week after planting until plants are established. Water mature plants every two to three weeks until buds form, then once or twice weekly until harvest.
Companion Plants: Echinacea, Aster, Sedum, Wild indigo, Baby’s breath, Drought tolerant roses
Harvest and Storage: Harvest in the morning hours when the oils are the most concentrated. Cut the lavender a few inches above the woody growth at the base of the stems. Use twine or twist ties to gather the stalks in bunches and hang the bunches upside down off of hooks or nails. Use a slipknot to tie them since the bundle will shrink while drying. Hang it upside down to dry in a cool, dark spot in your home or dry it outside on screens in the sun. The latter method affects the color of the dried lavender, since time in the sun will lighten it.
Culinary, Medicinal, and Practical Uses
Flowers and leaves can be used fresh and both buds and stems can be used dried. Lavender has a delicate floral flavor that is good for making sweets, flavored sugars, or teas. 
Lavender has multiple medicinal uses. It has been proven effective as an antiseptic, antibiotic, and antifungal so lavender oil can be used topically to treat minor cuts and burns. Lavender is also used to relieve anxiety and treat insomnia. Insomnia and anxiety can be treated both with the consumption of lavender and with aromatherapy using lavender, but more evidence has been found for the efficacy of consuming lavender (in a tea, for example) for these conditions. Some research has shown that consuming lavender tea can help with digestive issues and headaches, possibly because of some anti-inflammatory properties.
Because lavender is used as a soporific, be careful of consuming it when already taking any kind of sedative or medication that has drowsiness as a side effect.
The chemical compounds that cause its strong scent also make lavender an effective insect repellent. Thus, lavender sachets can be used to repel moths.

Lavender is an herb native to northern Africa and the Mediterranean mountains. Due to its strong, pleasing scent, lavender has historically been used to perfume bathwater and laundry even as far back as the Roman empire. Its name even comes from the latin “lavare" meaning to wash. This tradition follows it into the modern day as lavender continues to be extremely popular for bath products and aromatherapy. Lavender is considered a cleansing herb, so it is a good option to use as an asperging herb. When dried, it can also be burned to cleanse an area. Traditionally, scattering lavender flowers was used to ward off evil spirits and some believe having lavender planted around your yard will do the same.
Lavender has a long history of use, and, accordingly, its correspondences are many and varied. Aside from purification, it is associated with healing due to its natural antiseptic properties, so lavender in spellwork can be used to grant good health. Its calming smell associates it with sleep and peace so lavender spell sachets for sleep and sweet dreams are not uncommon. The scent was also appreciated for more sensual reasons than simply being a soporific, so lavender is also associated with love and used in spellwork to attract love.

Effect of Technology on Health - How to Do a Digital Detox in 7 Easy Steps
Have you ever heard of a "digital detox"? Many heard about it when American musician John Mayer finished a one-week detox in 2010 and invited his fans to join him. Or maybe you heard of "Digital Detox Week," a yearly April event encouraged by Adbusters magazine which suggests cutting back on digital stimulation.

Just what is a "digital detox"?
Also called "technology detox," digital cleansing," or even "e-tox," the idea is to just clear your head out of overstimulation and information overload, and restore balance to your life. You know that "healthy feeling."
Urban Dictionary defines "e-tox" as "detoxification from digital and/or digital devices." Adbusters suggests meditating in your relationship with your box, reflecting on slowing down and reconnecting with reality in a detox.
But actually, a detox is what you make it. You know yourself and your needs best. Thus, detox your own way! Read on for a few thoughts...
Why detox?
Plain and simple, because too much of a good thing might not be a fantastic thing.
Your"Why" may differ from mine. My current 48-hour digital detox enabled my mind and body to break more. I got to perform various fun, relaxing items. Admittedly, I wanted to put my relationship with technology to the test, and prove to myself that I'm not an Internet enthusiast (probably a lot of us are not so sure!). Can my digital life control me, or did I restrain It?
So what's in it for you?
7 Steps to Make Your Digital Detox Easier
Of course, you can just plunge into it, or you can use some or all of these 7 tips to make your detox simpler:
1) Pick a time period. Cut back on digital stimulation for a weekend, or an entire week. Or institute a routine weekly cleanse, by way of instance, every Saturday, Sunday, or a block of time every evening. For me, plugging and unplugging daily was harder than a longer detox, so I began the easy way. I suggest picking a time period that's doable and realistic, although any alternative may feel like a stretch!
2) Decide on the conditions. What are the requirements for your job and family life? Is email and telephone use okay, or can you do a phone-free, 100% offline cleansing? Within my 48-hour detox, I truly wanted to detach, so I just checked phone messages after a day if a treatment client was in crisis. Create a list of the ways you are frequently"plugged in" and decide what you can do by location (work, home, other), from the device (telephone, computer, iPad...) or by activity (email, text, gaming, internet surfing, Facebook, Twitter...).
3) Reduce temptation. Limit access to digital activities. Eliminate Twitter, Facebook, and other programs from your phone if necessary. It is easy to reinstall them later. Are you going to leave your computer on 24/7? Will you carry your cell phone with you at all times, or leave it behind? I had more trouble when my phone was handy. How can it be if people around you use technology? It was hard to see my husband online during my detox!
4) Inform others that you're detoxing. Announce it on Twitter and Facebook, or set up a vacation email. This may reduce the flow of incoming messages. Plus accountability works! Invite others to join you in offline activities, like a walk, coffee, or dinner with a friend, i.e. power in numbers.
5) Enlist help for your travel. What will you do if it gets tough? Make a list of choices to "plugging in" for all those withdrawal minutes: Journal (also helps with self-reflection), read a book, exercise, have a bath. Do not leave it to chance. Muster all of the help you can ahead.
6) Just do it! Despite the fact that the impulse to go back to your digital world may drive you mad, be in the moment as far as possible. I couldn’t decide on a  new official blog title so you can expect randomness until I land on one that I love. I’m changing it because weight is not the only thing that matters. When I first started all this, dropping pounds was the primary focus with the hope that other lifestyle changes would follow as I worked toward that goal.  Tracking pounds is measurable, it made sense, but after 5 weeks, it’s kind of stale and not much fun. Some goals aren’t quantifiable, they’re just a feeling. I had way more fun this week practicing self-care by focusing on my skin care routine and attempting meditation. And guess what, while I was doing all that I had less time for snacking, YEAH! This was always supposed to be about total health and wellness, a change of lifestyle. It will take time and I’m willing to give it time, but sharing the journey with all of you keeps me focused on my evolution and accountable to working toward it.

Amazingly, my weight has trended back down in the last week. Portion control wasn’t great. I cleared half a tray of lasagna one night. Honestly, all I did was cut snacking down by about half for this result. To be clear, I still ate hot cheetos and pounded down half a pack of oreos, a few other things here and there, but significantly less than what I’ve been having in recent weeks. I gave myself a hearty pat on the back for this progress because seriously, I’m subconsciously heading to the fridge and pantry when I sit down to watch TV. It’s almost involuntary. I have to retrain my brain, dissociate watching TV and eating. Now that I’m aware boredom is guiding me, I ask myself two questions: 1. Why are you looking for food? 2. When is the last time you ate?
My workouts matched my intensity levels from the previous week so another pat on the back for consistency. I did get some exercise in 6 out of 7 days, WOOHOO! My pursuit of daily exercise continues again this week with the long-term goal being that I can get an intense, sweat filled session in 5 days/week with two days for yoga spaced accordingly. If I sweat 3 days per week at this point, that would be a win. The yoga has been hard to incorporate. For some reason, leading yourself in a flow is much harder to accomplish than following an instructor. But, there is plenty of free stuff online right now so it’s up to me to take advantage of this opportunity.  
I gave my body some love this past week. Sugar scrub, lip mask, clay mask for my face and I even pumiced my feet… not all in the same day. Even though we know we should take care of our bodies we don’t always. Whether it’s because we feel like we don’t have the time, lack the motivation or just completely forget because it’s not an ingrained habit, our skin suffers. Being conscious of it helps me, because even on the days when I’m not feeling like doing anything, I at least make sure to cleanse my face, tone and moisturize to keep my natural glow on point. Love your body, love yourself.
Hahaha, the meditation. I’m mainly doing it to help reduce anxiety. I get insomnia like a m*tha f*cka so this is one thing, among many different things, that I’m trying to deal with that nonsense. I made an effort to do it 3 out of 7 days, I may or may not have just blown it off completely a couple days, but that is neither here nor there. After two days of wondering if I was doing it right, I headed over to reliable old Google… The type of mediation I seem to practice (yes, there is a variety) is breath awareness/mindful breathing. Essentially, I focus on my inhales and exhales while ignoring all other thoughts that enter my mind. The batting away of random thoughts is almost constant, but I did manage to just breathe for a few breaths. My mind wanders to things like writing this blog, food, work, cheese, the fact that the dog needs a bath, food, wondering how much time is left till the 5 minute alarm goes off. I did make it to 7 minutes one day, but that was only because I set the alarm for the next day and while I was supposed to not be thinking thoughts, I thought, it’s definitely been more than 5 minutes and checked. It is what it is. Dismissing the thoughts is a work in progress and my fight continues this week!
Despite resting on Friday, I still felt like I was running myself ragged with the to-do list by Saturday. We can always find things to do, ways to keep us busy. Maybe it’s being stir-crazy that is making me feel like I should be getting stuff done, but I already waged war on my living space last year (see the Art of Purging posted Feb. 6, 2020). Too bad that didn’t stop me from reorganizing my movies by genre the last 2 days. I think the stir-craziness is manifesting as overloading myself with personal goals to-do list items. I’m putting a stop to it today because I need to find balance. A little routine wouldn’t hurt so I’m going to plan to take my dog on a few short walks throughout the day to build some structure into my aimless days and help with balancing my time. I didn’t realize yesterday was Tuesday until almost 8pm. I’m sure some of you are in the same boat being stuck inside.
My goals for the next week… Keep aiming for those daily 5 minutes of meditation, continue to love on my skin, and space high intensity workouts accordingly with restorative yoga to rest and reset. I’m going to take a pause on specific goals where food and diet are concerned and just be mindful of my portion sizes and snacking habits. Oh, and I think I’m going to allow myself to just give in to those types of days where I can just lay on the couch, take naps, snuggle my dog and do nothing productive. Ultimately, this journey is about total health and wellness, a change of lifestyle, and sometimes the best way to care for ourselves is to do absolutely nothing at all.

Rather than wasting water or the fanciful notion of sonic vibrations to cleanse the skin, an individual had created cloths that could flawlessly clear away oil, dead skin, and sweat with a simple swipe. They worked on makeup and some, small injuries, though larger ones still required water.
Hephia wiped herself down, moving over her whole body, everywhere she could reach, including the nape of her neck and behind her ears. The wipe could -- and was -- overwhelmed, and she required three to clean herself to her own satisfaction, and then opened a small bottle of clear liquid, tipping out a little onto her hand so that she could rub it into her hair. This too would absorb oil and dead skin, but it was specialized to make her hair lustrous as though thoroughly washed and then dried.
Such tools had been a boon in places that experienced droughts, a lack of clean water, or even privacy, and Hephia was grateful for their invention.
It will be very nice when we can bathe, of course, but that’s a psychological remnant now, rather than an actual concern about hygiene, Hephia thought, and then checked the implant on her arm: while less popular among some, the birth-control implants given to crew members who would be on active shifts were very helpful. Trying to fight the notion of companionship taken in the arms of others was pointless, so instead they were armed with the means to prevent pregnancies in dangerous places, like the depths of space.
One day, perhaps even soon, there would be children born on space faring vessels, but for now it was too dangerous to risk. Implanted capsules usually lasted for a decade, and, Hephia supposed, it would not matter much if she was still on this ship ten years later when her only companion was another woman, though it would begin her cycle again, a matter of hygiene less easily managed by a few wipes.
No point in worrying about it right now, Hephia decided. Not when we need to eat first, then rest, then put our plans into motion.
Hephia dressed herself again, taking the opportunity to wear new clothing, though she felt light and mildly uncomfortable without underclothing to go with it. Finally, she replaced her headscarf and nodded to herself, cleaning up the small mess she had made before heading back into the room.
By the time she arrived, her own food was steaming merrily, and Svetlana was watching over it hungrily.
“...we can switch, if you like,” Hephia said, announcing her presence. “You didn’t need to wait.”
“It’s fine,” Svetlana assured her. “It’s just fine.”
“Well, thank you anyway,” Hephia said, and placed her clothing on the same chair where Svetlana had placed her things, and sat down. The food smelled good, and Hephia realized she was hungry, having taken her last few meals as supplements and preparatories for a long period in stasis. “I don’t think I’ve ever had a meal this good.”
“It’s all about perspective, isn’t it?” Svetlana noted as she waited for her meal to finish heating. “They have us practice eating these, sometimes, to make sure we’re used to the taste and the smell… but it wasn’t like this.”
“I’ve always heard that such things are a matter of perspective,” Hephia said, and dug into her meal. It was a lamb curry, the whole thing prepared as per the appropriate procedures, and then packaged and ready for space travel. “That something that tastes bland on a good day is a welcome gift on a bad one.”
“There is a saying I have heard, wherein that if you open your refrigerator for a meal and find nothing, you lower your standards and check again,” Svetlana said, and Hephia chuckled. “Our standards are lower out here.”
“...it really isn’t a terrible meal,” Hephia said. “Very flavourful. Here, try some.”
She offered a forkful of curry to Svetlana, and the systems officer opened her mouth obediently to take it into her mouth. Hephia couldn’t help but watch the way her lips move, the quiet interest she held for the meal.
“Delicious,” Svetlana agreed. “I like it.”
“I… do too,” Hephia said, falteringly. “It’s very good.”
“Then I should leave you to enjoy it in peace, shouldn’t I?” Svetlana asked. “Since I won’t be able to return the favour at all.”
“No, no… it’s not like that,” Hephia said, and took a deep breath. “I’m very lucky that, of all the people that could have woken with me, the system chose you.”
“And I, you.” Svetlana smiled, and despite all of the warm, richly flavoured food in Hephia’s stomach, she could feel her insides turn to water.

Throne of Pity

The sound of my frantic breathing had nearly silenced the gunshots. I did not need to turn my head to the left because I could tell from the red splatter on the crisp, white bedsheets that he, the priest, was dead. My teardrops hung onto my trembling upper lip before falling to the bedsheets I used to cover my breasts and shield my shameful nakedness. My trance was shattered when I heard those smooth words from ahead of me, it forced me to center my attention forward. “If you’re really a man of God. You’ll see him soon enough.” My husband, Adam, a man in a white, button-up shirt and soft, brown hair I remember to this day, sat on a chair only feet away from the foot of our marriage bed.
He twirled his gun around his finger, while light streams of smoke still escaped the barrel. I knew his words were not directed at me. When I turned in the direction of the one I knew he was talking to, I did everything I could to avoid looking at them in the face which was now home to several bullets. Instead, I focused on his chest, looking at the holy cross on the chain around his neck. ‘What have I done?’ I thought to myself, but not for the first time that night. ‘How could this happen.’ The gravity of my guilt guided several rivers of tears down my body. I was surprised that through all of that, I did not make a sob sound even once.
I heard a chuckle, from the man who sat upon his throne of pity. I was caught by surprise when I saw he was gazing directly at me the moment I redirected my attention to him. I did not have the energy or courage to scream at him or for help. I was at the mercy of the man I devoted my life to over 10 years ago. That was not the first time he inflicted pain upon someone. However, that person was usually me. He took a sip of wine from the narrow glass in his other hand. It was a reminder of how I got myself into that situation.
Thanks to the efforts of heroines like my mother and aunts, women who were once chained under the label of ‘housewife’ were able to find jobs in vast and interesting fields. For the past month, I was able to skip the kitchen and walk with stride on my way to work on the weekly paper. I was thrilled to see my words immortalized on the series of pages that would be on the tables and the front step of every household. That afternoon, when I was coming home, a friend of my husband’s, Father Silva, invited me to dinner to celebrate my new job. My memory of what happened then was hazy. I do, however, remember looking at his smiling face. His short, parted black hair and mustache tickled my cheek as he rubbed his face upon mine. I did not realize at the time how dense my drinks were with alcohol and other forms of intoxication. The concoction made me forfeit my body to a demonic and lustful presence.
That moment sent me on a journey which led me right to the moment I opened my eyes after spending that shameful night with someone I would have never thought would lure me into such a trap. When I saw Adam seated in front of us as I woke up, I was immediately filled with every ounce of guilt I should have felt the entire night leading up to that moment. He said nothing to me as he pointed the gun at Silva. I do not know whether it was my heavy breathing or the Lord himself that woke Silva up, but the moment he opened his eyes and realized that he had been caught, he held onto the cross upon his chest with a firm grip. His lips parted to say something, probably a plea for forgiveness, but I was never able to hear it. He was shot before anyone in this world knew what he wanted to say to justify his actions.
He was not the only one who had to explain himself. After all that had happened, I was left looking Adam dead in his crisp, ocean eyes. The moisture indicated that perhaps he had been crying before I woke up, a stark contrast to the malicious grin that was on his face. Before I could open my mouth to speak, he commenced to show me that I had no right. “Must have been fun. I can’t remember the last time I heard you that loudly myself.” He grinned as he took another sip of the dark red wine. His eyes strayed from me for a moment to analyze the glass. I could tell from the dark red shade of lipstick on the rim that it may have been the one I used that night.
He did that on purpose. He wanted me to see how shameless my actions were. “Care for a drink?” He casually extended his hand with the glass to me. At the same time, he had stopped playing with the gun in his right hand and properly gripped the handle. Both the barrel and wine glass were then pointed directly at me as if it was his way of asking ‘which would you like to drink from first?’
“I…” I was only able to let a single word escape my mouth before I was silenced once again by his sharp words.
“In my house, only my wife is able to speak to me. Any other women can keep their mouth shut. Like the good old days.” The grin never left his lips, even as he pulled the glass back to him for another drink. We looked at each other for a moment, intensely. It was then that same wine glass which set that entire situation up was quickly coming towards me, not by the gentle motion of his hand like earlier, but gliding through the air using the force of his left arm. My eyes barely had time to close before my face was left in streaks of bright crimson and the sound of more than just my love shattering. Tears were no longer the only rivers flowing down my face.
That feeling was so familiar. The feeling of him taking out his anger on me. I endured every bit of it, thinking that someday, the man my parents chose for me would soon be the man they said he was. “How does it taste?” His words sent vibrations through the few shards that were lodged into my flesh. I did not dare open my eyes. I was only moments away from losing my vision completely before, and I was not going to risk letting my guard down.
I did, however, find the strength to part my lips and no longer shield my teeth. “Do what you want. I’ve had enough.” I was not sure exactly which hurt more; the clear shrapnel which pierced my face in several places, the knife of his words which drove its tip into my heart or the thought of his bullet finally giving me the sweet surrender I needed at that moment. I could not think about anything else aside from somehow escaping. I did not know what I would do if I did, but I thought that any fate would have been better than sitting in my home, which should have been the safest place in the world for a wife, and enduring all that suffering. That feeling was able to diminish the guilt that filled me up until that moment. My stomach tightened due to the series of unknown emotions that overcame me.
I felt trapped. I was not tied down by a single rope or chain. It was the weight of that tension and fear which cemented me to the bed. Even after the solid defense I had set up for my eyes, I soon felt the need to look at him one more time. My eyelids parted and gave him the opportunity to truly take my vision. I looked at the barrel of the gun, while the man holding it was blurred out of my focus. I could tell he was drunk from the smell of his breath and shakiness of his voice. “May I have another?” I asked boldly, not fearing any more incoming attacks. The only glass object left in that room was the bottle of wine seated on the nightstand to my right.
His posture relaxed, as if almost surprised and amused by my lack of reaction to his last attack. I was not in the mood to drop to my feet and sob for forgiveness, because I knew that was what he wanted. It was then he made the fatal mistake of casually swaggering off of his throne and onto the bed. He sat on my thighs with his legs on either side of me. I was truly pinned down at that moment. His head began to near mine. Along with it brought the scent of strong alcohol and the breath of a man who never cleansed his mouth before leaving for work. His hair covered his eyes as his lips aimed for my neck. I could hear him whispering. “I only do this because I love you, Abby. You’re such a good girl when you’re quiet.” His tongue began to trail on the mixture of blood and wine that dripped from my chin.
“How does it taste?”  I whispered to him while his hair on my face danced to the words. Both his drunk and sober nature disgusted me, to the point I could not bear another moment in his presence. My right arm whipped itself out. My hands hardly had the time to fully grip the neck of the bottle before my arm sent it crashing into the back of his neck. Perhaps it was the work of the demon that possessed me earlier that night, or maybe it was a strength I had all along. Nevertheless, the sound of his licks turned into a sharp scream of writhing pain as his whole body lifted off of mine and his hands grabbed onto the back of his neck. Whether it was the wine or his own blood which poured onto the bed, I could not deny the satisfaction I felt giving him only a fraction of the pain he caused me.
With his resolve weakened, I was able to tumble out of bed, grabbing onto the gun he dropped in his panic. The tables had turned. I was left standing above the bed, while he laid there screaming far more frantically than I imagine he heard me not too long ago. The bed was soaked in a bath of everyone’s shared blood and wine. Even as I held the gun in my hand with the firm ability to end his suffering right there and then, I smiled slightly, then lowered it. My head tilted as if in order to let out the sigh of relief that left my lips. I picked up the bottom fraction of the bottle which remained on the bed. It was still intact and had some wine left in it. I sat down on his throne with my sweet beverage and looked at the pitiful display. I couldn’t help but laugh every time he winced.
The moment I lifted my hand to point the gun directly at him, sirens began blaring and circling the house. I looked up and sighed while noticing the ceiling fan was dotted with crimson. Right then, there was only one way to get out of that situation, and it was not going to end without handcuffs. I leisurely wrapped my index finger firmly around the trigger. “I’m only doing this because I love you,” I said before I ruined my life in the best way possible.
“A friend asked for my reasoning behind this piece. My theme was essentially to work with something that tried to embrace the contrast between guilt and shamelessness. Working with a female perspective and a character that is drowning in guilt from the very beginning was fun. >:)”

Cutie Reviews: NMNL Jan 19
If you guys have been around here for a while you might remember me posting a “teaser” on this; NMNL has decided to upgrade/remake itself and here it finally is, our first box of the brand newly styled NMNL/NoMakeNoLife box!

I’m so excited~!!
Okay, so I thought first I’d start with the various changes made to the box and booklet. So obviously the first change is that the box/color scheme has gone from a basic, classy looking black to a more... lively, apricot-pinky color. They have also added cute designs to the box and booklet to fit the beauty and makeup theme.
The next big change is that the theme of the box has broadened itself, not only will it still use Japanese beauty items, but it’s also decided to include Korean products too! I also think there might be an increase of items we receive too~
As much as I liked NMNL I often thought “why can’t the items be a bit more cuter? I like cute products.“ two of my favorite brands are Tony Moly and Etude House- so knowing they might start appearing more often was part of the reason why I supported this change to the box. I also like the idea that we, as customers, can experience more of a variety of items. Some items also provide an English explanation.
Now the booklet, I wish I could have included pictures but with the limit I can only do so much.
So first of all, we still have the contests:

We still have a page for giveaways, a little section on the box theme, the point system they made a few months back, customers pictures, and they still have a page featuring a person or popular brand. The pages for the items are still here too, but they gave them an overhaul and made it look cleaner. Each item also has a tip and key point feature, and a symbol to tell you if it’s a Japanese or Korean product.
There is a new page added to the book (which may just be for this month, I’m not sure), explaining the differences between Korean and Japanese beauty products.
Another fun page is that they have added monthly horoscopes based on cosmetics! They give you a suggestion of what sort of makeup item you should wear that will benefit you in various ways; for example, I’m a Libra and for January it says “Try a cute rose gold eyeshadow this January, it suits your kind and gentle personality perfectly!”
Some suggest lip product, facial products, lip product was very popular for January. Unfortunately I don’t have this months box yet, so I can’t go over that.
Okay! We can finally start this review! If you didn’t skip the wall of text above then you should give yourself a piece of candy :3
Missha 3D Mascara

Our first item is a black mascara by Missha that promises to lengthen and volumize ones lashes. Their tip is to heat your curler with a blow dryer, then curl the lashes before applying to further enhance the effect. It’s key point is to crease a 3D effect by forming a protective layer over each lash.
Okay, so... my intentions weren’t to put on makeup today. I didn’t have any plans and I was just going to take things easy. I also don’t have a blow dryer so I can’t say whether or not the tip works.

After a few coats of this I didn’t really notice too much of a change. But after comparing one eye with the one I didn’t put it on, I could see a difference. The lashes don’t look any thicker or anything, but they did curl a little and look longer. It dries very quickly, and it doesn’t feel heavy at all so I like it. I really needed a new mascara and wasn’t too crazy about the alternate options I had, so I’ll take it.
Also, I noticed it’s scent was sort of different than other mascara, so after smelling it again, I thought “this smells like playdough”. 
Melliesh Denkyu Lip Tint

This was our spoiler item we saw in emails, everyone got this Healthy Red color for this box and it has a lovely apple scent~ It’s made from argan and castor oils.
It comes in a cute light bulb shape and is filled with 10ml of product. The tip is to take a selfie using this product, and it’s key point is the pretty red color perfect for day or night wear.

I had high hopes after seeing how kawaii it was in person~
It smells really good and it’s small size makes it perfect for smaller carrying items, like a pouch, a clutch, a coin purse, even a pocket. It has an oily feel on the lips much like lip gloss, and after testing it I noticed that my lips stayed like this for maybe thirty minutes after application. It feels light on the lips as the booklet said, and I didn’t see any real issues when I tried drinking. Even after I eventually rubbed it off, I did see a little bit of tint remaining for a good while after, and my lips felt really smooth.
Soy Milk Extract Facial Cleansing Foam

(Okay, so we’re kinda in a different setting here. What happened was that after I left my picture area, I realized I forgot an item. So I just hurried up and took a picture while at the table.)
Anyway, this is a facial foam that moisturizes the skin and cleans away the dirty skin cells and germs hiding in those pores. The tip is to use this in the morning and once at night, and it’s key point is that the soy milk extract can also improve skin elasticity.
There is 200g of product, and it comes from Kumano Cosmetics.

As a facial wash product, it does the job. I’ve been using it as it suggests and I haven’t really noticed any problems or significant changes, although it does make my face feel nice~
It smells really good too... at least until after you apply it and wash it off, then it kind of smells like soy beans or something <3< I’m not a big fan of that. It’s also kind of difficult to get out of the tube because it’s ultra-thick, but squeezing from the bottom makes it a little easier, and it is fun to play with.
Watering Cosmetic Wedges

They were spoiling us with items this month. This one is a trio pack!
As anyone who uses makeup will tell you, wedges like this can be really helpful. Not only can you apply makeup with them- but they can also be used to remove it. It’s tip is to apply water and gently squeeze it before applying some foundation, while it’s key point is that it’s multi-functional.
What else makes these little sponge so nice is that they can also grow in size just from getting soaked in water!

Okay so... I’m not sure what I did wrong, but I’m not sure how much it’s supposed to expand. I had my hand in water for 5 minutes and saw barely any change- although to be fair, it might be warm/hot water. I didn’t think it mattered, and nothing says what temperature to use. Either way it’s still usable and in the end, that is what matters.
A day later I noticed that the wedge is still damp, even though all of the water is out.
My Beauty Tool Lovely Etti Shower Ball

An adorable, high quality bath puff by Etude House. It’s tip is to lather it with soap before use (I mean obviously...), and it’s key point is the cute wittle kitty-witty sticking out of it~

I didn’t really need a new shower/bath ball right now, but I can appreciate this because not only will it add more cuteness to the bathroom- but it’s my exact favorite color, a soft shade of pink~
It’s firm, but still soft and it feels really nice~
Kiss Kiss Lovely Lip Patch

This is a well-known Tony Moly item, I’ve seen several people try it out and I'm pretty sure I even spotted it in a few stores, or something resembling it.
It’s suggested that you use this 1 to 2 times weekly for 15-20 minutes. It contains collagen, Vitamin C, and extract from strawberries, blueberries, and blackberries. This was one of the items with full English instructions and ingredients though, so if you ever try it out just check the back.
In saying that, it had a little bit of a scent, but it wasn’t fruity or anything. The tip is that you try these out with friends at a sleepover (but keep in mind you only get one, they expect you to have multiple packs or buy more). Their key point is to moisturize and plump the lips while keeping them soft and smooth.

It felt really nice using it, but if you sit up or move around much, including your mouth, it struggles to stay on. In comparison to those by another brand I tried (and reviewed a few times on here), where I could be sitting up and it stayed put.
It’s also really fragile, mine was full of nail holes by the time I was done with it. I also noticed my lips were soft, but a dry patch came back not too long after taking it off, and a day later my lip are almost like they were prior to using it. But to be fair again, I think this would work better if you had multiples and could follow a regimen with them. Or at least did it a few times.
Flower Bouquet Face & Body Soap

A cute, moisturizing body soap. I think it might come from a brand/series/company called Florence Soap and is in the scent Flower Bouquet. It’s the perfect soap for winter because it will help your skin stay moisturized and smelling fresh- perfect for a spring pick-me-up~
The tip is to lather the soap and gently wash (I feel like for the ones they can’t think of something creative, they just state the obvious). While its Key point is the lovely scent.

It’s so small and cute, I love looking at it. it also smells amazing~ it’s like a light floral rose note. It feels good on the skin and comes off really easy. I noticed a little bit of griminess/soap residue on my hands after using it, but it was completely gone after I dried them off.
Fruit Slice Sheet Mask Pack

Our final item for the month. Long-time viewers might remember that a while back I reviewed an item like this before, last time I had watermelon- and this time our options were pineapple, kiwi, and banana.
I’m not a huge banana fan, especially if it tastes artificial, so I could only imagine an artificial banana smell >3<
Anyway, there is 12 in total and it’s recommended that you use them once a day. The tip is that you can also use these not just on your face, but all over the body. The key point is that it includes natural ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, allantoin, and herbs.

The pineapple scent is wonderful~
I really like using these, except for how difficult it is to get them back into the package if you don’t use all 12 of them at once. I just gave up and used them all. Besides that little hitch, I love how they can be used in a variety of locations, so now the rest of your body can feel what your face does while you relax~
I’m not sure they helped any with my dry forehead, but everything else is has felt nice. I put a couple on my legs, arms, and face.

Quality/Pricing - 5 out of 5. I was so surprised by how many items we got this month, and they each came in a variety of sizes and shapes, and some are reusable, which is always a bonus. I know the lip patch is cheap, although I’m not sure about the rest.
Content - 5 out of 5. I loved them! Especially because not only can they all be useful (and were/will be), I didn’t hate or dislike anything.
Theme - 5 out of 5. I don’t think there was meant to be one but I noticed many of the items had a pink sorta theme and thought that was really cute the way they matched the box. Many of them also deal with moisturizing, so I kind of consider that a theme too.
Total Rank: 15 out of 15 cuties. Am I being too nice? I’m not sure, but I really, REALLY liked this box. It did have some tiny touch-ups it could have made, but if you’ve been considering getting this box and enjoyed what you saw in this review I’d recommend signing up! It set the standards pretty high for this months box though~

1. Lip Tint - I can’t get over it’s adorable shape and size! The box is also really cute!
2.  Flower Soap - It’s elegant and cute, a great combination~ I couldn’t bring myself to destroy it’s packaging.
3. Shower Ball - It’s so sweet and kawaii~
4. Fruit Slice Mask - I like how they just sort of throw the fruit/food into your face. It adds a bright pop look that makes it stand out against all those plain or boring packages.
5. Facial Foam - it’s not cute or anything, but I like it’s gentle color palette.
6.Lip Patch - It’s cute, but it feels scattered with its designs. 
7. Watering Cosmetic Wedges - They’re cute and squishy~ they’re perfect for making cute little custom squishy cakes too~
8. 3D Mascara - It’s so plain looking, but the wand is much longer than what I’m used to.

The importance of purification

This week through my weekly goddess tarot pull I’ve been learning on the importance of purification. For anyone who didn’t see my earlier post this week, I do a regular weekly tarot pull from my goddess oracle deck and spend a week reflecting on the lessons of that goddess, learning about who she is, and brain storming how her lessons relate to me. For anyone who has never done this before, it is a really great way to expand your knowledge of your tarot deck, learning deeper meanings to the cards outside of the guidebooks that usually come with the deck, and to challenge yourself to heal and make changes to yourself.
Anyway, so this week I pulled the card for the goddess Sulis, who is the goddess believed to rule over the Roman baths in England. I’ve never been really connected to Celtic deities at all before, despite having some English ancestry. However, I have visited the Roman baths a couple of years ago on a trip to Europe, and I had already met Sulis in the baths when I visited the museum there. Interestingly Sulis is quite localised as far as I am aware, there has been not much mention of her outside of these public baths at all.
Purification has always been a major part of my practice so when I pulled this I was a little like... “But I already do this and have been for years? Why are you bringing it back up?” The guide book wasn’t much help either, it suggests “taking a meditative bath, having a stroll near water, and cleansing the body.” Somehow I feel that this is not really all that Sulis wants to tell me. I mean, if this card came up in a reading, do you really think the person you are doing a reading for would appreciate being told to take a bath? I already have like 5 baths a week (because relaxingggggg), shower everyday, wash my hands and mouth out before any kind of ritual work, obsessively clean the house and burn sage every where, yell at people for messing my house up and disturbing the spiritual vibes with their rubbish etc. I mean to be honest I really believe that this guidebook hasn’t captured the true healing message of purification. So I was a bit stumped at first, considering ritual purification with water is already quite a significant part of my spiritual practice. As someone who has practised Shintoism for 11 years, Shinto has had a huge impact on the concept of purity and my understanding of how important purification can be when connecting with deities. And this concept of purity is present in a lot of world religions as well- Hinduism, Islam, Christianity, and Judaism are just some examples. But physical purity represents much more than simply having a clean body.  So how does ritual purification of the body relate to purification of the mind and heart? Each time we perform an act of ritual purification, we need to think about more than just being nice and clean. The act of ritual purification is also performed to remind us to purify our minds and hearts of the negativity that so often plagues many of us in this modern world. Have you reflected on how you have been thinking recently? Have you insulted yourself? Discouraged yourself? Hated your body and the things you say or do? Made fun of yourself in front of others or in your heart? Told yourself you were disgusting, degraded yourself or disrespected yourself mentally? These are all things we do on a daily basis even without realising. Some of us are so used to doing it that we barely question our own behaviour towards ourselves. Yet this kind of negative thinking is key to a lot of our internal suffering, especially if you suffer from a mental illness. We need to be on guard and watch the thoughts at all times to keep our minds ritually pure from what brings negativity and “evil spirits” into our lives even in the mind. We need to start questioning the truth behind our thoughts rather than blindly allowing ourselves to be absorbed into them. Ritual purification also needs to extend to our heart. How do we treat others? Do we talk about others behind their back, discourage and pull them down with our words, or speak to them in a rude tone of voice? Do we belittle others or treat them as stupid just because we don’t particularly like them or their choices? Do you stand at a check out and abuse a helpless retail employee because you can’t have things your way? We need to guard our behaviour and see through the eyes in the heart. Additionally, we need to look at outside sources of negativity that may be affecting us. Are you ignoring a family member or not getting involved with your family for selfish reasons?Are you avoiding a confrontation? Do you have a friend who pulls you down and discourages you? Do you have an abusive relationship with someone in your life? Do you have responsibilities you have ignored but are bringing you stress? Are you pretending the shit storm isn’t there and not facing reality? We need to cut off and remove these loose ties, or fix broken ties that are worth fixing. We need to make intelligent decisions and choices, and rectify these unfinished areas of our lives so we can stop carrying useless burdens around.
So next time you perform a purification ritual, remind yourself to think about how your can extend this ritual to cleanse you of the negativity that we build up in our own hearts and minds. As the water washes over you, your heart and mind are cleansed symbolically of all this negativity that you have gathered and been carrying with you. Think about where we make some changes and tidy up some loose ends in ourselves while you perform this ritual. Where can you change your behaviour so that you do not bring harm to yourself? Where can you change your behaviour so that you do not bring harm to others?  This is the true beauty of the purification ritual, and this is how the purification ritual can be so much more than just a physical experience! I am so thankful for Sulis bringing this into my life this week. I still have a four days of the week remaining to reflect on this learning, so I am looking forward to applying this to my life!
