Nick Offerman wins Emmy for The Last Of Us gay love story
Tumblr media
It may be Golden Globes today, but actor Nick Offerman is celebrating an Emmy win for his work on HBO drama The Last of Us’ beautiful gay storyline.
The apocalyptic drama is based on the beloved 2013 video game of the same name. The Last of Us stars Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey, who make a risky journey across the US 20 years after a deadly zombie-like virus ravaged the world.
On their travels, the two characters meet Bill (played by Nick Offerman), a lone, hardened survivor living in a heavily fortified town.
Bill is a gay man, and a single episode of The Last of Us flashes back to the tragic gay love story between Bill and his partner Frank, played by Aussie Murray Bartlett (both above).
At the Creative Arts Emmys at the weekend, Nick Offerman won Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series for playing Bill.
It was one of eight wins for The Last of Us, which also included Storm Reid for her guest work on the drama series.
Nick Offerman spoke about the Creative Arts Emmys win – and shared his acceptance speech – in a post on Twitter X.
He paid tribute to co-star Murray Bartlet, his “magnificently generous partner and rightly lauded Aussie top man, the Girth from Perth.”
“It’s hard to fully swallow because the role was in an inseparable partnership with the magnificent #MurrayBartlett,” Nick wrote.
“So I wish they had 2 trophies to give. Without Frank, Bill ain’t s__t.”
Friends, I was fortunate enough to receive a very nice winged Emmy accolade figurine last night for my work as Bill in @TheLastofUsHBO written by the indomitable @clmazin It’s hard to fully swallow because the role was in an inseparable partnership with the magnificent… pic.twitter.com/caXUZ6pcPP

In his speech, Nick Offerman also paid tribute to the “astonishing band of artists” collaborating on The Last of Us.
“We would all just be standing around with our thumbs in our asses if Craig Mazin has not written this script,” Nick said.
“This was the best script I’ve ever been handed. If you enjoy what we do then it’s always and only because the writing is so good.”
Before the show premiered, Murray Bartlett also said the script was “one of the best hours of television I’ve ever read”.
Nick Offerman would love to bring Bill back
HBO announced last year that The Last of Us will return for a second season.
At the Creative Arts Emmys, Deadline asked Nick the obligatory question about Bill and Frank’s possible return in future seasons.
Nick said he’d love to return but “would have to ask somebody with a higher pay grade than myself.”
“It certainly has been pitched. I think we pitched a whole mini-series of a prequel of their lives before they met each other. It could be a musical. We’re not short on ideas. We’ll just we’ll see what Craig [Mazin] and [executive producer Neil Druckmann] come up with,” Nick joked.
“I was lucky [to get cast] this time. They needed a guy who could use a shovel. Three of us in Hollywood, Harrison Ford passed and Jane Lynch was not available.”
The Last of Us is streaming in Australia on Binge.

But no, about my deep dive into the wayback machine. There’s been this whole ado lately about misogynistic men saying “female fans mostly aren’t real fans” and “those who like Disney era SW just want a strong female lead.” And it’s kraytspit, of course. But it also gets me thinking about how I’ve lived and breathed Star Wars since I was 7.
How Mom started me with Episode I and I just asked “where is Darth Vader” so we actually started with IV and it’s funny that in the end I liked the prequels more. My sister worked at Burger King and got all the kids meal Episode 3 toys for us and I spent hours playing with them and rearranging them on the shelf and I still won’t let them be thrown away.
How mom read Jedi Apprentice and Jedi Quest to me. The way we stumbled across Secrets of the Jedi at my aunt’s local library and it felt like discovering treasure and we had to read the entire book before our vacation ended. Finding favorites in the series and checking them out over and over to read on my own-school library, local library. Mom read me Junior Jedi Knights and I met Han and Leia’s son for the first time. Grew up a bit, read Young Jedi Knights on my own. Remember reading the Emperor’s Plague while my girl scout troop was on an archery field trip. Checked out the Episode I visual Dictionary from my local library a hundred times. And Amidala’s Journal.
I grew up watching the OG Clone Wars. One of the first video games I owned was the Episode III plug in and play game. I had it in 2nd grade when I got the flu and my dad and I played it a ton. My friend would come over just to play it and I resorted to hiding it in my closet.
Went to SW.com a lot. I remembering playing the coloring book, a picture of Padme in the meadow in AotC. The Who Said It was my mine and my mom’s thing. There was a section of question and answers on every movie and I loved it so much. Leia’s wookieepedia page was the first wookieepedia page I ever read and I was so amazed by how detailed it was.
I remember giggling too loudly at Rotta the huttling when I was ten and he was so tiny and cute for a huttling in the movie theater. The Clone wars was my preteens-stupid hatred for Satine, cute butterflies for Luxsoka, etc.
I remember QuizUp being The Thing in early high school and living in the Star Wars category cause where else would I be?
And then, it all stopped. The old EU was no longer canon and so much of what I grew up with I held my breath to see. What it would trample over. I still don’t think I’ve read anything with the Solo kids-the real Solo kids- since then. Maybe very early on. Not since TFA for sure. Meanwhile I can’t bring myself to read new Jedi Apprentice era stuff. Like it’s odd.
Off topic. But point is. That’s not getting into the fandom side of things. Point is. I’ve lived and breathed this series since I was seven. I grew up on it. If some dude ever claimed I wasn’t a real fan I’d laugh in their faces. But no one should be accused of it simple because of their gender. And cause it’s being thrown about I’ve been thinking about my roots a lot.
I think the real point of this tho is I’ve always been a books and cartoons>movies Star Wars girlie.

15, 18, 24?
15) why did you start writing?
Well... I mean, I've been telling stories for as long as I could talk? But I remember like... I first went online when I was 7, because my bro-in-law found a Yoshi fansite and showed it to me. I remember at some point running across the first fanfic I ever read, which was... a short fic about Yoshi eating pastries. Like, that was the entire fic, but it amazed me that people could just... write stories about my favorite character, so... why shouldn't I?
I remember verbally telling what was essentially fanfics for a while, but it wasn't until 3rd grade when I had a teacher who gave a weekly assignment for us to write a story, and on Friday we would stand before the class and read it. Eventually I started using that as an excuse to write Super Mario RPG fanfiction (specifically about Yoshi and Boshi and various others), and my teacher allowed it. (I tried writing Pokémon fanfiction for class too when that was new, but the teacher banned it because she couldn't comprehend it, haha. But she let us play Pokémon during recess even when the principal banned it so she was still cool in my book.)
Meanwhile, online, with my mom's help I submitted one of my Yoshi fanfics to a Mario fansite I enjoyed at the time. The webmaster actually published it, but made fun of the fanfic in his own description of it. (He later removed the mocking description, but the fic is still there.) A year-ish later I joined my first forum (with the username you see now!) and started RPing there, and went on to continue RPing and writing fanfic. I wrote my first iteration of A Light in the Darkness around this time--then a fanfic--and posted it on some forums that sadly no longer exist. Another version got posted to FFN when I was 13, and it... may have been my first fanfic posted to that site, I'm not sure. (It's not there anymore, though, so don't go looking for it.)
Uhhh... that's probably a longer answer than was needed, but yeah seriously I've been writing for the vast majority of my life. I can't not write. I think I would explode.
18) were there any works you read that affected you so much that it influenced your writing style? what were they?
Answered in a previous ask!
24) have you ever become an expert on something you previously knew nothing about, in order to better a scene or a story?
Become an expert? No, definitely not. I HAVE done absurd amounts of research for fics (sometimes for stuff that doesn't even wind up staying in the fic anyway!), but I can't think of anything I've become an "expert" in as a result. Like, even just taking it to mean an exaggerated version of "learning a ridiculous amount of some random subject" I'm still not sure.
Like, I have done research on PTSD for various fics, and also researched schizophrenia when writing The Rodent and the Robot. Uhhh... OH, I did watch tutorials on soldering when writing A Few Repairs. XDXD;; I'm still not sure I got it totally accurate but, hey, I did research it! (... also that fic's prequel, A Little Test, had a weird instance of me making up crap and then finding out later I was right--specifically, having Wheatley see flashing colors when in pain--turns out that, uh, happens with machines when you mess with them when they're in operation, I found out later?? Wild.) I also did at least some research on broken bones for Neither Can You IIRC.
...OH GOSH I just remembered I also did research on lobotomies for a couple fanfics. Learned a lot of very upsetting stuff that way. x__o;
And uhhh... yeah, I think that covers that one? Gosh I know I've done research on more things than that but I'm seriously blanking on anything else...

First Lines meme
Tagged by the inimitable @forbiddenfantasies1
Rules: List the first lines of your last 20 stories (if you have less than 20, just list them all!). See if there are any patterns. Choose your favourite opening line. Then tag 10 authors!
I think I have...14?
1)  “You know, for the Lord of Storm’s End, you’ve got terrible security.” (My only Gendrya fic)
2) “Tyrion,” the Stark matriarch might’ve hailed from the Riverlands, but her blue eyes were as cold as the North she married into. (My Leverage AU LOL Tyrion was my stand in for Nate which I think showed how much I hated Nate lmao).
3) The bell above chimed quietly, as the red door swung open slowly. (unzip the back (to watch it fall) tailor!Jaime AU)
4) The Blackwater Bar was known for two things: strippers and shots. (Bronn Blackwater: Second-Best-Man-In-Command HAHA my first ever attempt at humor; it’s a little over the top lol and dedicated to my favorite discord server) .
5) Brienne stepped into Ms. Cat’s first grade classroom on the second floor slightly out of breath, with little Podrick in tow looking like he could barely breathe from climbing all the steps. (as the bells ring-- lol KIDFIC looking at it now, it really should have stayed as a oneshot).
6)  Brienne wondered what led to this. (dying is easy (living is harder) haha my first and unfinished attempt at candiv where Brienne loses her hand instead of Jaime; I’m fixing it and continuing but who knows when that’ll be)
7) Catelyn Lannister of Tarth ran her fork through a potato, viciously and without mercy. (touchin’ the stars (then draggin’ them down to earth) ANOTHER kidfic. this is just fun--there’s a sequel in my wips lol)
8) The first time they meet, they’re not even on the same side. (My spies fic -- there’s also a sequel to this in my WIPs)
9)  From Brienne’s other side, Hyle heard Lannister mutter, “This team building exercise is just an excuse for Catelyn to bring her kids to the zoo.” (The Riverlands Gang Go to the Zoo--I had so much fun with this one. It is also over the top)
10)  “I hate the cold.” Jaime murmured into the nape of his mother’s neck. (A Winter Wish)
11)  All curses start out as blessings.(My Narcissus/ Echo AU that I somehow always forget I wrote. I felt possessed writing it lol)
12) ”We would like to stress now the importance of staying inside and waiting out what weather maester’s are now calling the worst snowstorm Westeros has seen in a century. Some locals are calling it The Long Night--” (A Long Night--this was fun---I cut like 2,000 words of it because I couldn’t edit it the way I wanted to--so maybe a prequel sequel will go up one day LOL)
13)  It was certainly a scene to be had, Brienne thought dully, sitting in this diner with the most beautiful traitor in Westeros, a teenager, and a grumkin.  (i’ve got your face (hung up high in a gallery) Marriage of convenience fic)
14) Wave after wave the dead come. (there’s a piece of you (in how I dress) Pod dies fic)
Patterns: Short sentences? Maybe? Or dialogue? I don’t know; a personal pattern for me is that all the opening sentences are usually thought up while I’m washing dishes.
Favorites: 8? I think. The opener to the spies fic is my favorite one that I’ve written--so I think the first line probably feeds into that.
If you’ve read this far, you’re tagged. UHHH but I’ll just tag the usual suspects knowing that they’ve been tagged before @ajoblotofjunk @eryiscrye @unadulteratedkr @ceruleanphoenix7 @virareve

hi again! top 5 (or 10 if u want) books u have read
hi!!! and this is the hardest ask I've ever gotten. hands down. being a bibliophile was like 85% of my personality pre-mcr spiral so this is going to be in no particular order. and a top 10. and under a read more....
1. Eon/Eona duology by Alison Goodman: this series I read in elementary school so, it's very much a favorite for nostalgic reasons- flaws and all. it's a dragon-centric fantasy series I have vivid memories of reading at the bottom of my sleeping bag by flashlight past curfew at french camp in fifth grade lol. but also, most importantly, this series was also the first I thing read that dealt in anyway with gender-fuckery. the man character is a girl who has to pretend to be a boy to access the world of dragon magic, since women are forbidden from the practice, and a large part of the book is about her repression of the self and how pretending to be someone she isn’t is mentally damaging for her. additionally, the main side character she interacts with is trans. like the representation is almost certainly bad (it's ten years old and written by a cis woman) if I looked back, but it was the only media that I read as a kid telling me pretending to be someone I'm not is dangerous for my mental well-being and that gender is complicated so. it's important to me. plus it kicks ass lol
2. Beloved by Toni Morrison: I read this in preparation for my african american lit class last semester (knowing full-well we were going to read Toni Morrison and wanting to get a head start) and.... it changed my life a little bit. This novel is beautifully written, hauntingly human, and a masterwork of a response to the way americans discuss the legacy of slavery. it's very much not a fun read, but there's a reason it's a classic and every american should read it
3. This Is How You Lose the Time War by Amal El-Mohtar and Max Gladstone: this book. this fucking book man. it's a lesbian sci-fi spy thriller but not really? it's difficult to explain other than it has the best enemies-to-lovers plot I've ever read and the prose is so purple I fell in love immediately. do yourself a favor and read this one, she’s short but packs a punch <3
4. Frankenstein by Mary Shelley: look. this book inspired me to write a 12 page paper in high school, when the writing requirement was 3 paragraphs and a half-baked thesis. this book brings out the worst in me, truly and that experience of tearing this book into pieces and putting the puzzle together was so life-alteringly... fun. i think that paper was the moment i figured out i wanted to do the “writing papers about books” thing as long as possible. plus it's whole thing as a gothic science fiction novel is so far up my alley... the creature as a character i heavily projected onto.... I love frankenstein so so much
5. The Seven Husband's of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid: ok. hear me out. this book is so much more than it appears on the surface. truly a wonderful discussion of golden-era Hollywood, a beautiful mediation on love, and jussst pulpy enough to make the reading experience breeze by you. and yes, despite the title, it is queer! really this book is on my list for the scenes at the middle point of the novel that are just.... queer domesticity? i read this a few years ago so that was really rare for me to see that and it warmed my heart, even if it wasn't the center of the novel. this is a book i recommend highly. enjoy yourself, have fun, read this book
6. Blood in the Water: The Attica Prison Uprising of 1971 and It's Legacy by Heather Ann Thompson: I get to include one biography. as a treat. but this book is one of the most detailed and compassionate pieces of historical nonfiction I've ever read. partway through the research process, Thompson realized the material she was using as evidence was starting to 'go missing' and that survivors were starting to pass away so she went from writing a biography to writing the Definitive biography on the uprising and, as a result, it is dense and heart-breaking and rage-inducing. I don't think a single reading experience has effected me as deeply as this one. i respect the incredible amount of work it put to pull this together, as well as the dedication to tell this story before it gets conveniently 'forgotten' to history.
7. True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys by Gerard Way, Shaun Simon, Becky Cloonan, etc: you know what!!! i love the comic and I'm not afraid to say it <3 even in the pretentious ways, not just the "It's fun!" ways. here are my more in-depth thoughts.
8. The Passion of Dolssa by Julie Berry: realizing in retrospect that this is a novel about a female martyr figure.... but this is truly one of the best historical fiction books I've ever read. the research that went into it is insane, the characters are wonderfully fully-realized, and the setting is so vivid, and this story is right up my alley apparently....
9. Rot and Ruin series by Jonathan Mayberry: another nostalgia addition, this is a four book post-apocalyptic zombie series I fell in love with in middle school (and it held up upon rereading it in high school). it's special because it takes place years after the zombie 'uprising' in a world after it's immediate aftermath- which I feel is really rare for dystopian novels and makes the series unique- there's world building!! an established isolated society 13 years after society falls!! but the true gem of the series is the characters and their personal journeys. they all grow so much and witnessing it is so rewarding. they're just. special to me.
10. The Book of the Pheonix by Nnedi Okorafor: Nnedi Okorafor is one of the most brilliant sci-fi writers of this generation and you all should be reading her work!! Pheonix is my personal favorite because it has my favorite prose Okorafor has written, as well as a preoccupation with history and a superhero/mutant-esque plot that caters to me but it's also just a genius prequel to her novel Who Fear's Death (which you should also read but mind the content warnings) but all of her books/novellas are wonderful :)
small honorable mention to not the life it seems :) i didn't include it on the list but by virtue of being about my chem, it's spiritually here
Anyway... thank u nastia for giving me the opportunity to share!!! i may have gone a little overboard... but i v. much appreciated the ask 💕

Exposed Perspective (7)
By: @arc852 and @hiddendreamer67
Warnings: Guilt, fear, panic, being trapped, people being used/treated like test subjects and injury.
THIS IS THE THIRD STORY IN A TRILOGY. READ “A Third Perspective” AND “Switched Perspectives” FOR THIS TO MAKE SENSE!
(Check the reblog for the links to the previous chapters and the TWO prequels!)
———————————————————————————————
“Fascinating.” Dee breathed, staring down through the lens as he turned the knobs this way and that. “Oh, simply marvelous!” It was in this tedious fashion he continued, inspecting every inch of Virgil’s hair first. As he moved onto the blood slide, a pounding at the door startled the professor so much that he nearly dropped it entirely.
Virgil jumped, startled at the sudden sound. Patton, too, jumped awake and both looked at each other as they recognized the sound. They grinned, it had to be their humans!
“Be careful!” Dee yelled to the other side of the door, quite irritated by the interruption that had nearly destroyed his progress. Of course, he was sure it was just those meddling kids again.
“Dr. Dee?” A voice that was most certainly not one of the previous students made the dean pale. “May we come in?”
The borrowers’ smiles fell. That wasn’t Logan, Roman, or Thomas’ voice. They looked at each other with panic.
“Oh, ah, not right now!” Dee hurried to explain, already attempting to push the table closer to the door. “I am quite preoccupied at the moment and unable to open the door-” Before he was able to succeed, the door creaked open, revealing four figures on the other side.
“Well, it’s a good thing I have a key myself, then.” Dr. Picani noted, flanked by three friendly faces who looked ready to murder the dean. Dee gulped.
The borrowers’ panic left as soon as they saw their three friends. “Guys!” They both shouted at the same time, though Patton’s shout came out a little quieter as he was still a bit dizzy. The fourth human with them threw them off but if he was willing to help them out then they couldn’t complain.
“Virgil!” “Patton!” All three students rushed over to the cage, relief flooding their features as they completely ignored Picani’s startled looks. Dee tried to step in front of them briefly, only for Roman to promptly punch him in the nose. The dean groaned, falling to the ground and clutching his face.
“Roman!” Picani gasped, shocked at his behavior.
“Sorry professor,” Roman said, not at all sounding sorry as he didn’t even look over his shoulder before joining the others.
“Are you alright?” Logan asked worriedly, practiced hands unlocking the cage.
“We are now,” Virgil said as he grinned up at Logan and helped Patton up, Patton swayed on his feet and Virgil winced. “But Patton might need some help. Dee took a lot of blood from him.” Patton just nodded.
Logan only nodded, not trusting himself to speak as he carefully scooped up Patton.
Roman stepped forwards next, putting a hand out for Virgil.
Virgil climbed on readily and happily, settling down in the center of Roman’s palm. “I am so glad you guys are here.” Virgil felt as though he could cry.
Patton just barely registered he was being held now and looked up at Logan with a tired smile. “Hi, Logan.” Patton greeted, his words slightly slurred.
“Hi Patton,” Logan said softly, holding Patton close to his chest.
“...what happened to your hair?” Roman raised an eyebrow as he pulled Virgil out.
“Ugh, he happened.” Virgil pointed to Dee, who was still on the floor, with one hand as the other went to where his hair was cut. Virgil grinned though. “Nice punch by the way.”
“Thank you,” Roman said, looking pleased with himself despite the fact his knuckles were bruised.
“How dare you.” Dee snarled, getting to his feet by clutching the edge of the table. “You come in here, defile my work, invade my sacred zone-!”
“I think that’s our cue to leave,” Thomas commented, ducking around Dee towards the door. The other two followed, both clutching their borrowers possessively.
“Hold on a moment.” Picani put out an arm, stopping them all in their tracks. His eyes lingered on the tiny people. “I think you all still have a lot of explaining to do.”
Virgil flinched, suddenly remembering the fourth human that had come in with all of them. He grit his teeth. He was tired of all these humans stopping him from leaving. He just wanted to go home. “Alright, fine.” Virgil surprised himself by speaking. “He kidnapped us and tried to run experiments on us while completely ignoring the fact that we are sentient beings with feelings. End of story, now let us go home already!”
“How could you do such a thing?” Thomas turned to Dee, looking distraught. He still couldn’t believe a human was capable of such malice.
“Thieves!” Dee protested. “Liars, hooligans, the lot of them.”
“Ah...perhaps this would be a good time for a more...civil discussion.” Picani took a moment to look sternly at Roman, who didn’t even look sheepish.
“It’s not my fault his face appeared so punchable, professor.” Roman shrugged. As Picani’s gaze grew harsher, Roman had the good sense to duck his head and at least attempt to look repentant.
“Upstairs, my office, all of you.” Picani paused, looking at Logan. “It seems your claims were well-founded after all.”
The students began to follow Picani upstairs, as did a begrudging Dee. Both Logan and Roman kept him at a safe distance, keeping an eye on their respective borrowers.
As the borrowers were brought along, Patton looked up at Logan. Things were getting a little clearer which was nice. “Who’s that? Patton asked Logan, motioning towards the new human.
Virgil, hearing Pat’s question, couldn’t help but wonder the same thing.
“Doctor Picani,” Logan explained in a hushed tone. “He’s the true head of the natural sciences department, which makes him Dee’s superior.”
“Sorry about him.” Roman looked down at Virgil apologetically. “We didn’t want to get any other humans involved, but… we really didn’t have any other options.”
“It’s...okay. He got you to us and us away from Dee. That’s all that matters.” Though Virgil glared at Picani’s head. “As long as he stays on our side...we should be fine.” Virgil wasn’t too keen to trust another person of science though, not so soon anyway.
The group reached Picani’s office, a large room with a wooden oval desk. On one side Dee sat down, and on the other, the students sat. Picani went into an adjacent room, pulling out an ice pack and offering it to Dee before taking a seat next to his fellow professor.
“Thank you, Picani,” Dee said in an almost sickeningly sweet tone, clearly trying to get on his colleague’s good side.
“Dee, do you know why you’re here?” Picani asked, looking concerned.
“You took pity on a few students who wanted to sabotage my work.” Dee shrugged, glaring across the table.
“It’s for a far more serious reason, actually,” Picani explained. “Logan here believes you are guilty of illegal experimentation.”
“Oh, is that so?” Dee leaned over the table towards Logan. “I think he’s just mad because I took his pet away.”
“They’re not. Pets.” Logan growled, his fingers curling protectively around Patton. “How dare you accuse them of such a title when they each possess more humanity than you could ever hope to achieve.”
 “Yeah!” Patton exclaimed.
“Also, he literally just admitted to kidnapping us, which I believe is illegal, right?” Virgil said, directing his words at Picani.
“Ah, yes that would be correct.” Picani nodded, still looking a bit thrown off. “I’m sorry, who are you, exactly?”
Virgil sighed. “I’m Virgil and that’s Patton.”
 “Hi!” Patton waved.
“Like I said before, we’re the sentient beings Dee kidnapped and planned to experiment on.” Virgil crossed his arms.
“I see.” Picani’s eyebrows furrowed.
“This is all just a big misunderstanding!” Dee protested, leaning back to look over at Picani pleadingly. “Surely you can understand a single mistake in my long history of beneficial research to this institution.”
“One mistake, huh?” Roman scoffed.
“I have in my possession files indicating over two decades’ worth of ‘mistakes’,” Logan explained, adjusting his glasses. “Countless violations of the human code of ethics throughout your means of research that you so tactfully hide in your papers yet fail to hide in the video evidence you’ve accumulated of every interaction.”
Dee paled. “How did you…?”
“I have a certain interest in computer hacking,” Logan smirked. “Consider this payback for all your cruel grading these last few weeks. Which, coincidentally, is biased and also illegal.”
Indeed, ever since Dee had turned on Logan the biology student had set to work digging up dirt on his foul professor in the hopes of having the faculty member removed from the institution. It seemed his hard work was finally paying off.
“Logan sent me the files and the evidence speaks for itself.” Picani shook his head sadly. “I wanted to give you the chance to share your side of the story before I take this case to the board of trustees.”
Dee looked across the table, eyeing the group with a certain amount of scrutiny. “So it seems I’ve finally met my match…” He chuckled softly.
“Heck yeah, you did! You won’t be bothering us anymore!” Virgil yelled at Dee and smirked smugly.
Patton, who was slowly but surely getting less dizzy, grinned. That was definitely a nice thought. Not having to deal with Dee anymore.
“Dee, this is no laughing matter, Picani explained sternly. “It’s very possible that you will go to jail for this.”
“Oh, most certainly.” Dee looked almost bored, pulling out his phone with his free hand.
“...what are you doing?” Thomas asked, confused. The professor didn’t answer.
“Hold this, boy.” Dee tossed the ice pack at Thomas who caught it with a startled yelp. Now free to use both hands, Dee typed twice as quickly.
“What tricks are you playing, villain?” Roman sneered, leaning over the table to try and view Dee’s phone.
“All scientists are entitled to their secrets.” Dee looked meaningfully at Logan. “Of course, given the fact you’ve ruined me, I have no need for secret-keeping anymore.”
“I’m not sure I follow.” Logan frowned. He didn’t like being unsure.
“Aaaand send.” Dee hit one final button, repocketing his phone with a smirk. There was a quiet ping, and Picani pulled out his own phone.
Virgil’s eyebrows furrowed and he looked between Dee and then at Picani’s phone before his head snapped to Dee once more in sudden realization. “...You didn’t.” Virgil said, voice barely above a whisper, not wanting to believe it had actually happened.
Patton was still confused. “Did what?” Why was Virgil looking so pale?
“One mass email sent out to every faculty member of the college of natural sciences.” Dee held up a single finger, looking pleased with himself.
“Dee, why...why would you send this?” Picani frowned at the email’s contents. “This is just your laboratory recording from earlier today. All it does is prove your guilt.”
“Oh, it does far more than that.” Dee chuckled darkly.
“...oh no.” Logan paled, catching on as well.
“Oh yes.” Dee grinned, leaning over and addressing the borrowers directly. “Guess who’s not a secret anymore.”

I was tagged by @danwritestuff (a million years ago and only now I actually got to finish this thing) so here it goes:
1. How did you begin writing? Technically I started when I was like seven or eight and was working on an illustrated story about a dog and a magical bone. Yup, true story. But I think I actually started to get into writing when I was in seventh grade and a teacher told us to write a short story as homework. I don’t even want to think back on what I wrote because it probably wasn’t good, but I will never forget that my teacher told me that she enjoyed my story and that I was good at writing. There’s literally nothing better than having someone believe in you. And I initially only wrote in Spanish but funnily enough after getting into roleplaying my brain kind of made a switch and it comes more naturally to me now to write in English.
2. What was your first writing project? Tell us a little about it. Again, the story of the dog and the magical bone. But the first serious project that I still hope might see the light of day when I stop planning and actually sit my ass down to write it is a fantasy trilogy. I started it in 2008 and needless to say my mind has changed a lot in a decade, so as a result that story has changed very much from my original idea. I think that’s why I haven’t really done much writing and I’m stuck in ‘development hell’, because the thing just keeps mutating and my ideas for that world and those characters keep growing and changing.
3. What is your preferred medium for writing first drafts? I’ve always used Microsoft Word.
4. What rituals or habits do you have around writing? I always have a cup of tea next to me. And I say stuff out loud too, especially when it’s dialogue. I also sort of act out certain stuff to find words that could describe that. Definitely not rituals, just weird habits I have.
5. We all have a “type”– of character, plot, theme– what is yours? Well, I always go for fantasy or scifi stuff because it’s easier for me to make up shit than do extensive research about things that are real (also it scares me that I migh portray something in an inaccurate way). So yay, I’m lazy like that. I tend to include reserved, quiet characters (even if not the protagonists, they’re there). I don’t know, I just have a deep appreciation for introverted people that are more of the observing/listening type than the talking type.
As for plots or themes, I like to dabble into the ‘self-discovery’ paths for the protagonists and the ‘change established structures’ in the world. As for important themes, family bonds are always there in one way or another (both biological families or ‘found’ families amongst the characters). Also I have this weird thing about names. In every story I have characters that are called a certain way by most but then they are given a different nickname or are revealed to have a different name by someone that is/becomes close to them. For some reason the way other people call each other has always had such a deep meaning for me.
6. Introduce us to one (or more!) of your OC’s. I have an army of OCs, I have no self-control when it comes to creating them... my latest one is a gentle giant of a man stuck on an island where people don’t age and those stranded there can’t escape (shoutout to Mira and Ally for @timelessrpg!). And this guy is mute and deaf because I’ve learned a bit ASL and I wanted to integrate that into a character, explore different ways to have him interact with those around him without having to rely on speaking.
7. What’s your favorite genre to read? Fantasy, science fiction, historical fiction and psychological thrillers. But I’d give a shot at every book that sparks my interest regarding of genre.
8. Your favorite genre to write? Fantasy and science fiction. I like creating my own playground rather than using our lovely little world.
9. How do you conduct your authorial research? Google searches to start off. Then once I get a general overview I start to look for more specific stuff in books, videos, etc. I use YouTube a lot. That thing is a treasure chest of information and it helps with ther ‘overview’ part so then I can do more digging about specific subjects.
10. What does your editing (gasp) process look like? I’m such a jerk to myself when I edit, so I guess that’s another reason why it’ll take a while for my stories to see the light of day. If you look up the word perfectionist in the dictionary you see my picture... But I’ve been trying not to be so hard on myself lately and instead of staying stuck on that endless cycle of writing and erasing, I’ve been allowing myself to just write on. I’ve also made a deal with my roomie: I have to pay her $15 pesos (little less than $1 usd) whenever I got back to edit a chapter I had already finished. I’ve only paid her once, but it’s a good incentive not to go back an edit stuff too much and just go ahead to write.
11. What are your favorite tropes? I have too many, especially with romantic/platonic relationships. Enemies to lovers, is definitely one. Also any sort of yin yang/light and dark representations in character dynamics, I’m such a sucker for those. Any kind of trope that involves characters not seeing it coming and then just knowing they’d do anything for the other person (not just necessarily in a romantic way, I love bonds like that with people who become siblings to each other). Any sort of trope that involves a ‘partners in crime’ or ‘ride or die’ dynamic, I’M SOLD.
12. Show off your writing space. It used to be a desk when I still lived at my mom’s place. It was in it’s usual state of controlled chaos, as I like to call it (because there’s stuff everywhere but I know exactly where everything is). Now my roomie and I share a desk, and most of the times I just end up writing in bed, using a folding bed tray as my desk.
13. What is the most useful piece of writing advice you’ve ever used? Sit down and write is one. And also something that I saw in Victoria Schwab’s instagram: “I’m not writing a book, I’m writing a chapter. I’m not writing a chapter, I’m writing a page. I’m not writing a page, I’m writing a line”. That helped me feel more confident. The work put into trying to write a book always felt so overwhelming and like something I would never really get done. But thinking that even a little bit counts has made it feel like a less impossible feat.
14. What is the least useful piece of writing advice you’ve ever ignored? That it’s wrong to repeat a character’s name or identifier (the queen, the thief, etc). I used to think it was wrong to it because ‘being repetitive means you’re a bad writer’ and you’d have me do mental gymnastics to figure out different ways to refer to my characters which, honestly, end up coming off as forced. So yeah, I’ve definitely begun to ignore that now.
Another one is that writing ‘said’ is wrong. I’d rather use ‘said’ a hundred times than throw in random shit like ‘ennunciated’ just to avoid using ‘said’.
15. Your writing beverage/snack of choice? Tea, always. Either black tea or rooibos with milk.
16. How do you compile your ideas? Quick notes on my phone when I don’t have a notebook at hand. Word documents. And notebooks. Lots of notebooks. I have a specific notebook for each story. Lately I started posting stuff on my wall. I have a summary of each chapter that I’ve already written in little pieces of paper, kind of like a timeline. Above each ‘chapter’ there’s a blue post-it note with the stuff that led to the events of that chapter, and below there’s a green post-it note with the plot points that chapter will set in motion. It’s kind of to keep in order all the information I’m dealing with. And then above the timeline I have even more pieces of paper with specific events that must happen eventually and I just keep moving them around to construct the rest of the story. It might sound weird and confusing, but I swear it helps. I’m a visual person and it’s very damn helpful to see those pieces of story and ideas have some order.
17. What are your controversial opinions ™ on the craft of writing? That being a best-seller means the book is good. I don’t know if it’s controversial or not, but I don’t think quantity equals quality. Also, LET STORIES END. I get it, sometimes as readers we love a group of characters so much or a world that we want more, but that doesn’t mean there should be more. I feel that a lot of prequels, spin-offs and extended series end up taking away from the original story/saga because they were clearly not in the author’s mind from the beginning. There are exceptions to this, I’m sure, but I just feel authors should know when enough is enough rather than try to milk their series for all they’re worth. And I might get shit for writing this, but I’m also against the idea that all characters have to be woke and politically correct 24/7. I believe characters should be allowed to be ignorant and say wrong things and make mistakes, because then they get to learn and grow and become better people, and yes, possibly get called out or educated throughout the story. I don’t know, maybe it’s just me having faith in people learning and growing, but I happen to like characters that start out not so great and begin to really become better human beings during the story.

Sonic’s Movie is Good
Tumblr media
Okay, I have heard quite a few ridiculous claims Sonic’s Movie will suck despite the redesign. That is quite a claim with nothing to back it up. Or almost nothing.
Not much is known about the plot, but before we move to it, let’s remind ourselves what each Sonic game was about.
Games:
Sonic 1
Sonic 2
Sonic 3
Sonic 3 & Knuckles
Sonic A1
Sonic A2
Shadow the Hedgehog
Sonic Colors
Sonic Generations
Sonic Forces
Sonic and Black Knight
Sonic ...
Uuuuf... Let me catch my breath first, I’m not that fast as Sonic ;-)
So, here we have a small sample I cooked up at the spot. So, what is the plot? It can be summarized in four words - Save the world/stop Eggman
Okay, theoretically it’s five... But, my point still stands.
So, people kind of complaint Sonic’s Movie is about him saving the world = simple/primitive even. (Do I get it right?) If “saving the world”-trope/plot is lame, I guess LOTR or Star Wards are lame too. After all, they are “just” about saving the world as well.
Tumblr media
Now, please notice the sarcasm. I use it when dealing with close-minded humans. Thank you for understanding. My point is - every story has a theme. Being it save the world, go on an adventure, or solve a mystery. I have somewhere read an article about Seven Main Plot Lines in Books (Maybe it was more of them ^_^;). Each book, no matter how awesome it is, can be categorized in one of those “cliché plots”.
Surprisingly, it doesn’t make them bad or boring. Do you go and read a book to know how it ends? Yes, some books have shocking ends you don’t expect. With some, you know how it will end - hero will beat the baddie and lives happily ever after.
Well, how about the journey in the middle? Isn’t it the most exciting part of the story? It sure is. It can have anything - humor, action, adventure, mystery, romance, angst, twists, character’s growth, world building. The list can go on. The end is just a cherry at the top, it’s the middle part that sucks us in.
In other worlds - Stop judging Sonic’s Movie based on the premise. It’s stupid.
Tumblr media
What do we know for sure:
Sonic is an alien.
Different planet, but in one universe
Or different dimension means two different universes like in games.
Government is after Sonic
You telling me this is stupid? I would be knocking on my forehead if no military was involved when Sonic appears, especially after the shockwave knocked out half of the continent. You can’t ignore him. This part reminds me of Season 1 of Sonic X when Sonic was chased by humans to find out how he ticks.
Also, this has E.T. vibes, and nobody says the premise of a human kid helping a lost alien to escape from the government to return home is stupid ;-)
In other words, Sonic is a too big deal to be ignored by the military. They have to take action.
Pair up Sonic and Tom
No problem here. We often see two unlikely individuals joining forces to beat bigger baddies. It provides nice dynamics and often helps both parties to see the world from a new perspective.
Tumblr media
Game inspiration
There seems to be still the confusion about what type of story Sonic’s Movie tells. I think it was even officially stated, that this movie is a prequel to Sonic 1 and partly Sonic 1 too. So kinda like Sonic 0.5.
It tells how Eggman/Robotnik and Sonic became enemies. The game never explained this, nor why Eggman wants to conquer the world. At least that Amusement Park of Death is an original tidbit :-D So, in a way we can get some answers or the alternative way how to look at their frenemies relationship from games.
We can also get more about how the Two Worlds (Mobius, Earth) are connected. For me, I still can’t wrap my head around it. It kinda feels they made it up to cover some plot holes, but whatever. The idea itself is interesting.
It has a lot of Easter Eggs but introduces Sonic to kids
There was a test screening during January/February and here is the comment from that person (found on Reddit).
The movie aims to bring a new origin story for Sonic and Robotnik. Its main goal is to introduce children to Sonic the Hedgehog as a character, but at the same time throw references and pay homages to details from the original game series for the longtime fans. It aims for a PG Rating.
He gave the movie a 7/10 grade. “It’s geared towards new fans with respect for the older peeps. Just go into it knowing that new kids will fall in love like we all did at one point.”
About how the movie was like, he said that “ Id say it is more TMNT with reference to story and action balance. It’s a solid mix between engaging action which continues to develop the bromance between sonic and Tom.”
“Its definitely being targeted towards youth demo. It seems their goal is to intro sonic to the next Gen of fans. More so with access to their parent's wallets for the spin-off merch and happy meal toys. I enjoyed it similar to seeing transformers. Don’t expect the green mile storytelling but turn your brain off and just enjoy for what it is, The cast does a great job” Robotnik is only called by the Robotnik name in the movie, no mention of the Eggman name at all.
It's about 90 minutes long
“ It’s a good balance between giving the old fans something but introducing him to kids. I went in not knowing it was gonna be screened or any expectations. Cheesy but enjoyed it from start to finish. Jim Carrey kills the role.”
“ Action scenes were great in storytelling and execution wise. Effects weren’t complete so a lot of it was still early CGI and the hidden actors playing sonic. At one point he was just a blue doll on the counter lol”
The post contains some “plot” for the movie, so I won’t post more. I actually skipped once I noticed this ;-)
I don't know how you, but I’m going to watch this movie no matter what!

11/11/11
I was tagged by @demidemonwrites and @ezwriting. Thanks you guys and sorry this took so long to write!
I know I will be breaking the rules to some extent, but I will be answering both their sets of 11 questions here. I don’t have exactly 11 people to tag, let alone 22 at the moment haha. Sorry!
Demidemonwrites’ questions!
1) Least favorite writing trope?
I’m going to be honest, I’m not entire sure. I’ve never thought of this before. I actually went through a couple forums where people are telling their least favorite tropes to see if anything struck with me. Honestly, I couldn’t find anything. Maybe I haven’t read a lot to know what I don’t like or if I’m just not that picky. I guess if things are written well I’ll be down with anything.
I guess if I had to pick one, it would have to be “the good guy is actually the villain” trope. With Frozen I remember when I first sat down in the theater and thinking “Haha what if Hans was the villain” and then BOOM I was right. There was some other movie I watched where I called one of the good guys being the villain, but I can’t remember what it was.
2) Which of your characters are underdeveloped but you want to develope more?
My current new character for My Hero Academia, Yuriko Umeda. She’s the first character since my Marvel character, Tracey Madison, that I’m super excited to work on and write for!
3) Do you prefer writing stories or worldbuilding?
I prefer writing stories. I’ve mostly written fanfiction and gone off of worlds from fandoms. But I have recently been practicing worldbuilding by attempting to add onto the already existing worlds. I have an original story in the works, but I haven’t touched it in nearly four years. It’s there, but I’m struggling with it. Maybe one day I’ll finally figure it out. But yes, I like writing stories more so than worldbuilding at the moment.
4) Where do you do most of your writing? (In bed, at a desk, ect...)
Literally anywhere. I write on my computer and on my phone on Google Docs so writing is portable for me. I do tend to write more on my bed or on a couch. I guess somewhere where I’m comfy.
5) If you have multiple ocs, what do you do to keep all their info organized?
Hahahaha I don’t. I’m pretty sure there have been times where I created a character in my head, came back to them months or even years later and forgot what their name was. I used to write a list of characters I created (even ones that I didn’t have stories for) back in high school, but now I don’t. I guess I just remember characters I really like. If I write for them I remember them of course, but if they are characters I have in my head and create a story for them then I tend to remember those characters. Although, I probably should start keeping them organized somehow.
6) Do you write your ideas down or are they mostly in your head?
Both. I tend to come up with ideas in my head (as everyone does haha) and when I have time I write them down on my notes section of my google doc for the story. But I also have ideas written down and in my head. Small ideas come to mind every now and then that I forget about that pop back up or they are minor details that I’ll write in as I write the story.
7) What is your character(s) favorite food?
Yuriko’s favorite food is omu rice.
Tracey’s is Hawaiin pizza.
Barry’s would be fried rice.
Aria’s is cookies.
Wes likes pretzels. Crunchy or soft he loves them.
Lyra’s is meatloaf.
I haven’t thought of Barry’s, Wes’, or Lyra’s before but those popped in my head. It might change, not sure haha.
There are probably other characters that I can’t think of at the moment or characters that I haven’t written for in forever that I just omitted from this list. These are my recent projects.
8) Out of all your character, which has the best story arc?
I guess Tracey? She’s the character who I actually write a complete story for instead of abandoning it. To this day I’m not sure how I did it, but I did. I have four stories completed in the series with her in it. The second one I liked, but looking back on it there’s some stuff I’d like to change in it. But I also think with that story I was able to develop her character more after that.
9) Do you prefer heroes, villains, or anti-heroes?
D. All of the above. I like characters who are well written. Even if its a villain I will like their character.
10) What character have you had the longest?
My longest character would be from my very first fanfic ever, but I don’t want people looking into that one hahaha! Out of my recent characters its definitely Tracey and Barry.
11) Favorite villian trope?
This was another thing that I’ve never thought about before and once again I looked into lists of villain tropes. I think I like bad just to be bad. One of my favorite villains is Joker and he’s evil just because. Another trope (if you count it as a trope or personality) is crazy. Harley Quinn, Junko Enoshima, and Himiko Toga are happy crazy and I don’t know why, but I love characters like that.
Ezwriting’s questions!
1. Do you listen to anything while you write? Music, television, white noise, etc.
I tend to have something on in the background, whether it’s music, TV, or YouTube. I just like to have background noise. I do like to use music to picture scenes for stories. There’s been times where I’m listening to a song randomly one day and I just picture a new scene that has that song playing as background music and I just add it to a story.
2. Can you describe your favorite character? Either yours or a beloved favorite from a book or any other media – I’d just love to hear about them.
Tracey and Barry are my MCU OCs. They are the Madison twins and they’ve been with me since I was a freshman in college. So about six years or so. That may have given away my age who knows lol.
Barry worked with SHIELD and was picked up right out of high school. Tracey didn’t know what he did until the Battle of New York where she basically interrogated him on his uniform. Tracey is a hacker. She majored in Computer Science (even though I know absolutely nothing about it) and she has been playing with computers since she was a kid. She had an interest in them.
Pepper was a friend of their mom’s so that’s how they met Tony and then the Avengers through Tony. Everything just falls into place or goes down hill from there!
I’ve worked so much on them that they have become my favorites. But at this point, I’m taking a hard hiatus on them and focusing on other characters.
3. When you write, do you have any particular requirements before you can start? (Have to be a specific somewhere, need music, etc.)
Nope! If I end up writing, I’m lucky. I have the worst attention span and lack of inspiration at times that the moment I sit down and try and write I end up watching the most random videos on YouTube or scroll through Tumblr. It’s bad haha.
4. Do you prefer to be hot or cool when writing? Do you snuggle up with blankets or have fans running, or are you somewhere in - between?
I’m in between. It depends on the day. Like right now I’m fine sitting on my couch in some comfy shorts and a shirt and write. But some times my legs might get cold and I’ll lay a blanket on them. But that’s usually if it’s cold out. I’m in between.
5. What kind of writing ‘quirks’ do you have?
None. I literally sit and write. I usually have background noises I mentioned in the first question (sometimes, very rarely, will I write in silence). I might have a cup of tea or a snack, but other than those I don’t think I have any writing quirks.
6. What is your favorite book or book series?
Harry Potter, Peter and the Star Catchers, and The Truth About Forever.
7. Is there anyone who inspires your writing?
@pen-in-hand @apocalyvse They’re writing is amazing!!
8. What first got you started in writing?
I honestly can’t even remember. I think it was this anime that’s my favorite called D Gray Man. A friend got me into it late 8th grade early freshman year of high school and I loved it. I was also a major major dork back then (probably still am but not as much) and had a crush on one of the characters that I wanted to create my own to add into the story. I think one of my friends told me about ff.net and I picked up a notebook and pen and started writing.
I do remember a couple times in elementary school where I had to write short stories. One I think I still have in my junk somewhere that was about a dog wanting to be a sled dog and the other was I had to write how the Oregon Trail was made. That one I don’t have, but I think I remember I wrote about how a girl ran into a goblin in a forest and had some competition with him over something. She ended up using this basket she had and used it to create the trail.
Elementary school Mel was wild. I don’t even know how I remember that Oregon Trail one. Star Kid pick up my story and make a prequel to Trail to Oregon.
9. What would you suggest to new writers?
Just write. Even if you think it’s bad, just write and post it. Someone is going to love it. You are also your worst critic. I look back at my first fanfic and CRINGE when I think about it. But I have reviews on it. I also look back on it and realize that I have improved so much since then. You improve as you write and you can only go up. If you enjoy it, keep writing.
10. Do you prefer to write first, second or third person?
Third person for sure!
11. How do deadlines affect your writing? Do they hinder or help you?
I don’t set deadlines for myself. Unless I’m writing something for a holiday or as a present to someone. I don’t do deadlines, but I think it would either help or hinder me. It would help me sit down and write, but I also think - knowing me - that I’d procrastinate and then rush to meet the deadline. Rushing would then result in my worst work I think. Maybe. But I just don’t do deadlines. I post when I want to.
My questions
1. Do you write fanfictions or original stories and did you ever write fanfiction?
2. Did you ever write your stories in the middle of class instead of paying attention?
3. How many notebooks do you have filled with your writing?
4. What’s your favorite way to write? Notebook, Word Doc, Google Docs?
5. Do you write by yourself or do you need people writing with you?
6. Have you ever cowritten with someone?
7. Who do you bounce ideas off of?
8. Have you ever taken an experience from your life and written it into a story?
9. Favorite type of music to listen to while you write.
10. Have you ever had anyone give you “advice” that hurt you and prevented you from writing for a while?
11. Have you ever had fans of your writing pester to write a certain way?
I tag @pen-in-hand @apocalyvse @starsandstormyseas @loopally @morganwriteblr @writing-and-nutmeg @luciandra-writing @nightwingshero @scouthearted @invernessie41 @odpadkywriter @alalawrites
I did 12 instead of 11 since I had two sets of questions haha!

Writer Process Tag
Tagged by @hoppnhorn
1. What are your favorite genres and/or styles to write in?
To write in?  I’d say... emotional dramas.  They don’t always need romance, though I tend to stray toward that.  Smut can be difficult for me to write on my own-- I usually get flowery and vague with it when I write it on my own, these days-- but I love co-writing it because it is a lot like the give and take of being in a bedroom with someone; there’s an element of surprise.
But yeah.  I would love to write more horror or comedy or mystery, but I feel like I fail each time, so I tend to stick with emotional dramas.  Finding love, finding home, find oneself, etc.
2. What was the last writing project you finished and felt successful with?
Part 1 of Cherry Pie.  Super proud of that and of @brawlite.  But on my own I would say It Gnaws Me Through because it was... maybe 20k or something?  And it took me six months to finish?  But I’m also hella proud of Love is Touching Souls-- mostly because of the shockingly kind response it has gotten and the feverdream it was to write during the last dregs of winter during my last semester at school.
There’s a couple of others that I’m proud of for different reasons-- pushing myself to try on a different voice, to try a different form, etc-- and if you want to know them, please feel free to ask.
3. If you have a WiP how do you feel it’s going? What stage are you in?
I would say I have four, soon to be five, WIPs.
Under the Covers is the obvious one.  I constantly feel an itch to work on it, but I feel stuck with where its at.  The tone I need for it is slipping, and I want to give everyone and myself the ending it deserves.
Cherry Pie is the other.  Part 2 is currently in the works and going strong.
look at what you made me do is a Harringrove superhero AU.  It’s at about 1.5k and I’m adding stuff as I go. More of side project than anything I spend a great deal of time on.
got these feelings that I’m tired of holdin’ onto is actually going to be a prequel/sequel response to Under the Covers from Billy’s POV.  I can’t finish that and publish it until I finish UTC, though.  And it isn’t nearly as long.
And the soon to be fifth is a possible Urban Legend type of deal.  We’ll see if the idea takes root.  Otherwise, @brawlite and I will probably be working on a piece of semi-original fiction soon.  Loosely plotted already, at least.
4. What are your favorite places to write?
I write everywhere.  In my car, during break at work, in bed, at Starbucks.  Any chance I can, I will write.  I’ve become very good at writing on my phone because I just can’t not.  I also always have a notebook on me.
But my favorite place to write?  Roadtrips or on a plane.
5. Do you prefer to write with long hand or type? Or some other method?
A little of both.  I like the fluid, organic way writing comes with longhand, and then getting to instantly edit when I type it up later.  But I hate having to type it up later.
With co-writing, I do a lot of it on my phone when I get tagged in.
6. Do you remember your first character? If so can we meet them?
Gosh, gosh, gosh... I think my first character ever was a catman.  In a fanfiction I wrote in third grade-- and illustrated-- of me and my best friend self-inserting into Halloweentown as brand new witches. All I can remember is that I thought he was very suave.
7. Where do you get your inspiration?
Music, other writers, something I’ve seen or read or heard.  Moments that are so mundane but I just... have to?  I have to put it into words on paper.
In college, I took a narrative course where one of my assignments was to go around and just... listen to people talk, watch them, and write as much down as I could for an hour a day for an entire week.  A lot of people complement my dialogue, and I think I can attribute some of that to those practices.
Sidenote advice: if you ever feel your dialogue is being forced, remember, not every question needs an answer, and conversations derail quickly and spontaneously, only to come back at the beginning again.  People don’t talk in a linear fashion.  Brains are weird, yo.
8. Do you outline a story before writing it, or does it all live in your head until the first draft gets put down?
Yes and no.  I plot a lot in my head-- and sometimes I write that down so I don’t forget because I frequently come up with other plots and don’t want to forget.  I don’t always stick to that plot, though.
Love is Touching Souls was hella plotted. BIG TIME plotted.  All based off of a string of eight poems. I have yet to be able to recreate that fucking feverdream writing spree.
9. Where do you go/ What do you do when you’re feeling stuck?
Similar to @hoppnhorn-- I read.  I read a lot when I can’t write.  One of the best things you can do as a writer is read often and read different things.  I also watch youtube videos, do ASMR, watch murder mystery documentaries, rewatch old favorite horror films, and-- TMI-- have lots of orgasms.
Orgasms sometimes do wonders knocking writer’s block loose.
10. What got you started writing/doing Art? (Because I always love origin stories)
I started writing young.  Loved getting to put myself in stories I loved.  But then I grew and writing turned from a hobby into a coping mechanism for trauma into a craft.  On the best days, it’s all three of those things.

tagged by the lovely @britneyshakespeare to answer these 10 questions & come up with 10 of my own. thank you !! 💗
psa i wrote way too much please don’t read this. just skip to the questions at the end if i tagged you
1. What are 3 songs that mean something to you, and what do they mean?
that’s hard because i don’t usually find personal meanings in songs. i’m a lot more interested in what the song means to the artist who wrote it. but let’s see if i can think of some
-um. after all by david bowie was always Highly Relatable. like. prattling on & on waxing philosophical only to suddenly realize everything i said is wrong and don’t hate me and also now i’m having an existential crisis and i shouldn’t have started talking in the first place? M e
-when i was first getting into rush i was a big fan of Self Isolating To Cope and also i had no friends and was proud of it (bc if i couldn’t find a way to take pride in my [perceivedly] unchangeable flaws my entire self image would come crashing to the ground and that just wasn’t a good time . anyway). so the lines “nothing can survive in a vacuum / no one can exist all alone” from turn the page pissed me off. but now! now i have loads of friends and i feel legitimately cared about and i feel like i can comfortably reciprocate that and now when i hear that song i think you know what neil? you’re goddamn right.
-uh i s’pose i relate to another brick in the wall pt 3 which is not a good thing but. i dunno i really love being angrily in denial of needing any help whatsoever along to this song. it’s my flaw-pride anthem (don’t worry i don’t take it literally. it’s just fun in the moment)
-shit i know this said three but the one person who i relate to EVERY FUCKING SONG he’s ever put out is bill wurtz. never have i felt so understood than when i listen to bill wurtz’s music. god it’s the most uncanny feeling, i really really understand it a lot
ok i have to stop thinking of more . turns out a lot have meaning to me ive spent like an hour on this question alone Moving On
2. What’s your ideal self like?
. this was The Worst question to ask me because i can and will ramble on for hours given the opportunity
well i’d be able to execute my ideas, for one. instead of just having a half-baked - quarter-baked - fleeting concept with no real idea of how to achieve it. more specifically i want to be able to write songs. more more specifically i want to be able to write the music aspect of songs. i can’t do it. i dont fuckin know why i just can’t. but if i could i think i just might be content with life.
but that doesn’t mean there aren’t still things to improve. i wish i was funnier. i like my weird brand of humor/abstractity online but that’s hard to replicate in real life. i wish i was better at thinking on the spot. i wish my memory didn’t only retain stuff when it feels like it. i wish i was better at putting my thoughts into words, more concisely and accurately and effectively.
um i wish i didnt have executive function issues. like i wanna just do stuff and not have it take all the energy out of me. wish i had the energy to do it to begin with. wish i could keep up with socializing and not ignore people for hours/days because i can’t get myself to maintain conversation.
ok clearly this is leading down an endless tunnel of what i’d change so . i’ll just say my ideal self is a successful musician with a good social life but also an element of mystery and intrigue. my ideal self is just david bowie
3. Who, of all your family members (immediate or extended), do you think has had the most influence on you, for better or for worse?
my mom for a lot (a looooooot) of reasons but if i go into it this is gonna push it over the line from a tag game into a therapy session (if i havent crossed that line already)
4. What’s your main outlet of expression?
writing. journalling. fuckin , social media. actually yeah that more than anything. my Self is on display here if you look at my tumblr(s) my twitter(s) and my instagram(s) you’ve got a pretty goddamn decent picture of who i am
5. What was the first album you ever bought for yourself?
uh i mean i listen to most stuff off of youtube if i don’t already have it so like,,? i dunno. does itunes count? the first vinyl i ever got was wish you were here (for forty fuckin bucks god) but i paid with my aunt’s money so does that even count. i don’t know.
6. Do you like to go shopping?
depends on a lot of things. lately i’ve been in the mood to just get out of the damn house whenever possible (love being a high school dropout !) so the answer is pretty much yes anytime. but it really depends.
7. Kind of cliche but, if you could have dinner with any person, living or dead, who would you pick?
i wanna be the fourth person at the dinner with rush table. just to observe. i’d be terrified to actually have a conversation with any of my idols. okay but if i had to get over that fear i guess i’d pick..... bowie? todd? i don’t know this is hard. alex lifeson circa 197something so he can take me back to his place afterwards you pickin up what im puttin down
8. What TV show do you watch when you’re feeling stressed or low and you need a quick feel-better fix?
i don’t watch tv like ever not even in this case but i guess full house
9. What was the last intriguing conversation you had about?
everything my girlfriend said to me today (edit: yesterday but i did this last night) was great everything my girlfriend’s ever said to me was great
oh that didn’t answer the question at all i just realized. uh they were telling me about the star wars prequels (which i have not seen) and earlier we were having a very analytical conversation about a particularly interesting rush photo
also me & @swanky-trash were discussing our plans to take down trump and all the rest of those bastards while wearing jareth from labyrinth costumes and eating mushrooms. because it’s our destiny as clones separated at birth. yknow just life stuff
10. What’s something about yourself that you don’t think comes across as painfully obvious online, but is, in fact, in person?
shit are we at the end already? damn. i was enjoying this (can you tell).
okay here’s another one i could go on for 12 years about. but uh. i probably come across as way more perky irl? like my voice is all high pitched and i talk really fast and smile and laugh at everything and i have a whatever the opposite of monotone is voice. i don’t like that. i try to combat it online with the all-lowercase typing and shortening of words and omission of punctuation and that sort of thing. i think it’s worked. also i may be terrible at typing but i am WAY worse at speaking. i’m scatterbrained as hell and if i seem at all interesting or witty online that all goes to shit irl. also i can’t fucking talk to people who i only know in person? it just doesn’t work. thank god i have you guys
haaaa okay sorry for the rambling here are the questions
1. what’s the best day/one of the best days you’ve ever had?
2. how important is your social media presence to you?
3. what achievement are you proudest of?
4. describe your sense of humor.
5. is there anything you’re good at or like to do that people who don’t know you well probably wouldn’t expect?
6. what’s your most interesting family story?
7. favorite color palette?
8. what’s something that would be very “out of character” for you to do?
9. yknow that thing on twitter that’s like “pick 1 & rt for good luck” and the options are good grades, meet your idol, money, or crush texts you? which one would/did you pick and why?
10. what’s a song you either wish you’d written or feel like you could’ve written?
i tag @thetemplesofrush @thumbnailoak3 @swanky-trash @lavender-layne @realalexlifeson @davies-jones @goallines-and-musicrhymes @fruitthemed @graveyarding @cosmikdebris99 and anyone else who wants to do it and dont feel pressured to do it etc etc god i hope none of you actually read this whole thing i am so sorry

Favorite Omegaverse manga
So I’ve finally gotten my lazy ass up to make another one of these (◞・౪・)
I’m only listing the ones I’ve already read (I have a pretty long list of manga I still have to read) , maybe I’ll add some later or I’m making a whole 2nd part, I haven’t decided yet ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
My criteria usually includes things like the plot, the art style and the amount of romance/sex (for me, no sex in omegaverse stories can be kinda boring, but it depends on the story)
I also should put a slight spoiler warning here, but I think it can’t be really avoided in personal recommendation lists so you’ll unfortunately have to bear with it (❁´▽`❁) (or you can just read the titles)
Everything is based on my own opinion, so please don’t judge~ヾ(^∇^)
1. Tadaima, Oakeri (aka family goals)
Tumblr media
This will be my all-time-favorite omegaverse manga, and no one can convince me otherwise ಠ‿ಠ . You know, in most omegaverse manga, you get to see how the couple meets, how they fall in love, then they bond (bc most stories feature an alpha/omega pair) and sometimes you see when they get kids, and that’s it. But here they skip this completely and just show what happens after: the everyday family life, the kids, and the hardships they face even after they’ve bonded and gotten married(I’d really like a prequel about how they met tho, but that would probably destroy the feeling a bit) I guarantee you you’ll fall in love with the characters and their personalities instantly, especially with Hikari, my little angel (ಥ_ಥ). The plot compensates the general lack of sex (almost) and the art style is just GORGEOUS (unfortunately this is the only completed manga from this author I found) JUST READ IT NOW YOU WON’T REGRET IT I PROMISE
2. Sayonara Alpha
Tumblr media
In this manga, we have this “fated pair thing” where an alpha and omega are soulmates and are only attracted to each other, the only thing is that Chika(the omega) meets his alpha way to early. He is a highschooler, and Haruka is still in grade school I think?? So here things get pretty weird, but (thank god) there is no rape in this whole manga (although it’s still weird that he wants to be fucked by a six year old, but oh well, at least they first have sex when Haru’s graduated highschool so that’s okay I guess) The things I like in this manga are the fated pair thing (I love it when they like each other as persons despite their soul bond) and I also like that Chika doesn’t act like the typical omega (except in front of Haruka of course), he just beats up the guys who try to discriminate him just bc he’s an omega, that’s what I call a rolemodel (☞˚∀˚)☞
3. Abarenbo Honey
Tumblr media
This is another proof that I’m a sucker for secondary characters/couples, I always like the second couple more ◝(⁰▿⁰)◜ (the first starts of with rape and an unwanted mating bite, so that destroys the mood a bit, although they come to love each other in the end, but we don’t know for sure if it’s because of the bond) The setting is a yakuza environment, though it’s not what you’d expect (all of them are actually really nice). If you want to see many sex scenes and not the heavy type of story, then this is probably the right manga for you :)
4.Kashikomarimashita, Destiny
Tumblr media
Yeah gimme dat alpha/beta couple hnnnng No really, this story is similar to Abarenbo Honey in case of the first couple, they are a fated pair and you get the feeling that they HAVE TO love each other, because they can’t be separated and are unwillingly attracted to each other because of their soul bond, that’s why I like the second couple more (on the right). At least they choose to be with each other, and the fact that they’re an alpha/beta pairing makes me like them even more, because they’re rather rare ^^
5. Kurui Naku No Wa Boku No Ban
Tumblr media
I took the whole image size bc the art is just so beautiful
THIS MANGA IS THE CAUSE FOR MY BITING KINK (not that I’m complaining tho) I think I kinda forgot their names oops but I love this pairing very much, I think Takaba(?) is the first alpha we see that has an omega father and feels kinda disgusted because of his alpha instincts because he’s seen his dad being raped my many alphas, but that’s what makes his character so interesting and brings Miyabi(?) to like him. I don’t really have anything to say about this, but it has a happy end (very important) so I really like this story.
6.Unmei no Kisu wa Oazuke
Tumblr media
I’m so in love with this fated pair thing I can’t even(ಥ﹏ಥ) This story is short and refreshing, no rape here either yaaay (I think I’m reaching my word count now, I can’t think of anything to say)
7. Pendulum: Kemonobito Omegaverse
Tumblr media
So, I don’t really like beastxboy, but this manga is something else. I this universe, wolf-like beasts can only produce children with human omegas, and there are also fated pairs. We also get to see one of these fated pairs where the partners hate each other (although I’m not really sure about that (¬‿¬) ), but the main pair is in love even before they know that they are a fated pair and that’s just too cute(*≧▽≦*) (also the second couple is going to get a spinoff!!)

Philosophy Pt. 13
Fandom: Overwatch
Pairing: Doomfist/ Lucio
Summary: When Akande is assigned as the professor for an introduction to philosophy class, the last thing he expects is to find a man he’s been sleeping with in the front row.
Notes: I ended up combing the last two parts. Thank you so much for reading I’m sorry that there was not much plot to this one. It was very self-indulgent of me.
Rating: Teen
Part: Prequel(explicit)  1 2 3(explicit) 4(explicit) 5 6 7 8 9(explicit) 10(explicit) 1112 13(end)
Lucio was never one to give up. Akande knew that despite it being impossible for the young man to make an A in Introduction to Philosophy, he would still try his hardest on the final. For the last month of the semester, Akande watched as his boyfriend studied almost every night. The week leading up to the exam, Lucio practically ran on coffee, staying up to ungodly hours as he reviewed everything that they had learned in the class. It was hard for Akande to watch his boyfriend struggle when he could have saved him the trouble, even if it did mean altering Lucio’s grade slightly.
Lucio is exhausted when he makes his way into the familiar lecture hall of his philosophy class. He walks to the front, taking his seat at his normal desk as he waits for the professor and teaching assistant to hand out the exams. He does not look at Akande. Though he knows that his grade in this class is his own fault and not his professor’s, it has been a bit of a sore subject between them lately. As of now, he wants nothing more but for this semester to end and to take a long nap in his boyfriend’s arms and forget about this class entirely.
“Turn off your cell phones and put away your notebooks. If I suspect that you are cheating you will be asked to leave and be given a failing grade in the class.”
Lucio glances at Akande briefly as he begins to talk and pass exams down the rows, starting with his own. The lecture hall goes silent almost immediately since no one dared to think that Professor Ogundimu would be bluffing.
“At the beginning of this semester, I told you all that I did not give extra credit.” As he speaks again, Lucio straightens up in his seat, not having expected what came next. “I’ve had a slight change in heart, though. Once you are done with your exam, you can choose to pick up an essay prompt from the front of the room. Your essay must be at least three pages. If it is not the required length I will not read it. I have high standards for this writing assignment and so it will be pass or fail. If you fail, it will not hurt your grade,” he pauses a bit once he has made his way to the front of the classroom, eyes locking onto Lucio’s, “If you pass, I will drop your lowest grade from the class… You have two hours to finish the exam and essay. You may begin.”
Akande knew it was going to be a pain to read these essays before the final grades were due, but luckily only a handful of students took him up on the offer of extra credit. Lucio is one of them of course and given how much the young man had been studying the past week, Akande expected a near perfect essay.
“You’re the best boyfriend in the whole world!”
Akande laughs as the weight of the younger man settles onto his lap. He looks up at his boyfriend with a soft smile, resting both hands gently on Lucio’s hips as the other man straddles his lap. He glances to the door of his office, not really expecting anyone to stop by. Most of the other professors left campus the second that their finals had finished, leaving the hall for the philosophy department nearly empty. “You worked too hard, Lucio. You deserved an A in that class,” he explains simply.
“You told me over and over again that you never give extra credit though,” Lucio says with a grin, scooting further into his boyfriend’s lap so that he will not fall out of the desk chair.
“I haven’t given it before,” the older man admits with a nod, moving a hand to the smaller man’s lower back. “Perhaps I will do so from now on. It would only be fair-” he finds himself cut off by a pair of soft lips pressing against his own, causing him to grin against them happily.
“I’m not keeping you a secret anymore,” Lucio says excitedly, grinning as his boyfriend nods in agreement. “I’m going to post about us on my blog and your picture is going on Snapchat, Facebook, and Instagram. The world needs to know about the incredibly smart, kind, and hot man that is my boyfriend.”
“Calm down,” Akande says with a quiet laugh, cupping Lucio’s face in his hand gently to guide him closer and press his lips against his forehead.
“Don’t tell me to calm down!” Lucio laughs, wrapping his arms around his boyfriend’s neck. “Aren’t you excited? We can actually be seen in public together now, we don’t have to drive out of town to go on dates, we can kiss wherever we want!”
“Only a few of those things are true.”
“Oh, come on,” the younger man says with a grin, leaning up to press his forehead against his boyfriend’s. “Things are different now. What do you want to do first? What’s next for us?”
Akande smiles at his lover’s enthusiasm. The truth was that he had not planned anything special for once the semester was over. He had not even considered that the two would not have to hide their relationship any longer. It sounded nice, honestly, to have a more open relationship and to not be a secret to Lucio’s many friends. The question of “what’s next” sticks in his mind though, and he finds himself thinking it over in silence before speaking up.
“Lucio, will you move in with me?”

My Top Romance Anime
I made a new set of list of my fave romance anime series since I guess i deleted my post accidentally w/c i always update ( i dont wanna talk about it i'm still in shock lol) so here it is i made it as simple as possible, no long description. Just my collection of anime that caught my heart while watching it.
1. InuYasha
Tumblr media
InuYasha follows Kagome Higurashi, a fifteen-year-old girl whose normal life ends when a demon drags her into a cursed well on the grounds of her family's Shinto shrine. Instead of hitting the bottom of the well, Kagome ends up 500 years in the past during Japan's violent Sengoku period with the demon's true target, a wish-granting jewel called the Shikon Jewel, reborn inside of her.
Inuyasha has always been my fave since childhood. I love the love and hate relationship they have. Inuyasha being stubborn but ever since he met Kagome he learned a lot of being a good person. I just hate their love triangle with kikyo nevertheless I love how it ends. It's really worth it after so many years of watching and waiting for it.
2. Kamisama Kiss
Tumblr media
Nanami immerses herself in her divine duties. But if she must keep things running smoothly, she will need the help of a certain hot-headed fox. In her fumbling attempt to seek out Tomoe, she lands in trouble and ends up sealing a contract with him.
I’ve never been so satisfied in my life until after watching all the episodes of this anime, the twist is amazing . It ends well. My heart was happy.
3. Wolf Girl and Black Prince
Tumblr media
Erika Shinohara has taken to lying about her romantic exploits to earn the respect of her new friends. So when they ask for a picture of her "boyfriend," she hastily snaps a photo of a handsome stranger, whom her friends recognize as the popular and kind-hearted Kyouya Sata.
This is the first time i tried to watch anime series continously, i mean i never wanted to stand up while watching it haha it was good . I love how Kyouya manage to be so mean while everybody thinks he's a perfect prince, but i fell in love with this couple, theyre so perfect.
4. Noragami
Tumblr media
Just as things seem to be looking grim for the god, his fortune changes when a middle school girl, Hiyori Iki, supposedly saves Yato from a car accident, taking the hit for him. Remarkably, she survives, but the event has caused her soul to become loose and hence able to leave her body. Hiyori demands that Yato return her to normal, but upon learning that he needs a new partner to do so, reluctantly agrees to help him find one.
aahh yatori makes my heart crave for more haha i mean dont expect a lot of romance on this, it highlights friendship . Yato being so childish and Hiyori is such a good girl, i cry whenever she loses her memory. The story is fun and I hope for the next season they will give exposure for my fave couple.
5. Inu X Boku SS
Tumblr media
But Ririchiyo's troubles have only just begun. As a requirement of staying in her new home, she must be accompanied by a Secret Service agent. Ririchiyo's new partner, Soushi Miketsukami, is handsome, quiet... but ridiculously clingy and creepily submissive.
I love the twist, i dont mind watching this all over again. Their personalities is quite interesting, the story is cute with mix of mystery.
6. My little Monster
Tumblr media
Shizuku Mizutani is apathetic towards her classmates, only caring about her grades. However, her cold view of life begins to change when she meets Haru Yoshida, a violent troublemaker who stopped attending class after getting into a fight early in the school year. He is not much different from her, though—he too understands little about human nature and does not have any friends.
oposite attracts haha Haru is so adorable. And their relationship is quite bumpy and unsure. But i think their feelings for each other are genuine.
7. Hatsukoi Monster
Tumblr media
After meeting her rescuer yet again and discovering that his name is Kanade Takahashi, she confesses her love to him. Kanade says he would like for them to be a couple, but that Kaho may not want to date him after she finds out his secret. To her shock, Kaho discovers the startling truth: Kanade is a fifth grader!
Hatsukoi Monster follows Kaho's first steps into love with Kanade, her immature, yet kind, fifth grade boyfriend.
Age doesn't really matter lol. Its kinda weird as it may seems but who cares as long as you love each other then jump and take a risk. You can wait for the right time anyway haha. This anime is funny and i love how their friendship show. Accepting the situation and learn how to deal with differences is the lesson.
8. Guomin Laogong Dai Huijia
Tumblr media
Lu Jin Nian and Qiao An Hao were not married by choice. On the first day of their wedding night, Qiao An Hao made three rules regarding their marriage. One, you are not allowed to touch me. Two, you are not allowed to announce publicly that I'm your wife. Three, you are not allowed to say that we are living together.
I've watch only the first two seasons. and i loved it. Its like a prequel to the story but i dont know why im satisfied with it haha, the truth is i dont have the strength to watch the season 3 and i dont even wanna know how it ends. haha while watching i was desperate and frustrated them to be together, i want a happy ending. But all I can see was barriers and situation wont let them be happy together. I hope they will make a movie based on this. All i know is it was too depressing but definitely has a good story line.
9. Red Data Girl
Tumblr media
Izumiko begins by cutting her bangs, which shocks both her classmates and protectors. And that's only the start! Her guardian, Yukimasa Sagara, forces his son, Miyuki, to come to the mountain shrine and become Izumiko's lifelong servant and protector. Too bad Izumiko and Miyuki cannot stand each other. They have known each other since they were children, and Miyuki bullied her terribly.  Will Izumiko and Miyuki work past their differences? Is she actually a literal goddess? Find out in RDG: Red Data Girl!
This anime left me hanging and didn’t give me the ending i crave for, i hope they gonna make a next season. but i enjoyed it so much, i love the main characters and the vibe it gives me. It's a serious mystery and a little bit of romance but not much. anyway i love this, never regret watching it.
10.  Shuumatsu Nani Shitemasu ka? Isogashii desu ka? Sukutte Moratte Ii desu ka?
Tumblr media
Willem takes refuge on the floating islands in the sky, living in fear of the Beasts below. One day, he is tasked with being a weapon storehouse caretaker. Thinking nothing of it, Willem accepts, but he soon realizes that these weapons are actually a group of young Leprechauns. Though they bear every resemblance to humans, they have no regard for their own lives, identifying themselves as mere weapons of war. Among them is Chtholly Nota Seniorious, who is more than willing to sacrifice herself if it means defeating the Beasts and ensuring peace.
Not every story has good ending but im glad i watched this. The couple reminds me of kaname and sagara of full metal panic but in different way. Their personalities are so perfect for each other. I wasnt really into anime girls with different hair colors but Ctholly change my point of view, she's exactly one of my fave girls now, her being childish, jealous and innocent around Willem caught me. Funny moments will be present too and their feelings for each other blooms slowly every episodes that you just wanna watch more. I wish the last episode ended the way I wanted, anyway, I still dont get why Willem is involved into two different girls in the past, i guess it wasnt explained that much, i just hate the flashback how he remember the girl while he's with Ctholly,. Well all in all, i enjoy much I just hope they add new season, but i dont know how it will start haha. Im just happy to meet and add this perfect couple in my list.
So that’s it, i’m still in search of finding good anime romance. I hope i wont let my foolish hand delete this post again lol. Im definitely gonna edit this and add more . Hope you enjoy reading. :)

Up On The Hill
Tumblr media
Pairing: N/A Series: Princess Principal Words: 1220 Rating: Everyone Summary: Ange recalls how she wound up at the secret orphanage on Stanford Hill and her first encounter with the mysterious 7. Notes: Wow, my first fic on here that’s not about a lesbian couple. So the idea for this came from this beautiful piece of fan art. it got me in the mood to write a “prequel” of sorts to Ange’s time at The Farm. Set a couple of months after Ange and Charlotte switched places, as shown in Episode 8.
There’s an orphanage on Stanford Hill.
It’s not like the other orphanages around London that are run by private owners or what’s left of the church, it’s a government institute for children of no value to anyone. Children without family, friends or caretakers. Children that no one would miss if they were to suddenly disappear.
I’m one of those children.
It was a cold morning in late October when I first saw her. A woman, looking to be around twenty to twenty-five years old, red curly hair, fashionable clothes and a handbag that probably cost more than all the bags I had nicked to date combined. She was sitting on a park bench feeding some pigeons on the street, as if she was waiting for someone.
Sure enough, another woman would arrive moments after and sit down on the other side of the bench. I couldn’t tell what they were talking about, but it didn’t last long before the woman who had just arrived took her leave and the one with the high class appearance did the same. Thinking back on it, I took a huge risk by following the woman, but I didn’t know it at the time.
It was the usual trick, run down the street like any careless child would, bump into the target and get out of their sight before they realized you had taken something from them. I had done this countless times by now and at first it seemed like nothing would be different about this particular encounter.
Hidden in an alley I opened the handbag I had swiped. I guess my thoughts of getting to finally eat something for the first time in a week clouded my senses, because before I was able to check the contents of the bag someone spoke to me.
“What is your name?”
A strict voice, like a teacher who’ve caught you skipping class. I realized instantly that the voice belonged to the woman I had stolen the bag from. I also realized that she was standing right behind me. I turned to face her, scared of what would come.
“W-what?”
“Your name, please.”
“Ange.”
I had been caught before. No pickpocket starts successful after all. I was used to the consequences. I had been beaten, tossed about and more by those I had failed to steal from in the past. The woman’s face was expressionless, as if there was no trace of emotion in her body. I steeled myself for what would come next.
“Ange, would you return my bag?”
I did, my hands shaking a bit from her unsettling tone. She crouched down to my level after having the bag returned.
“Thank you.”
“I’m sorry, I just…”
“You spied on me from the street corner. I noticed you from where I was sitting.”
I wasn’t sure how to respond. It was clear to me now that this was a woman I was not supposed to have been trailing.
“I figured you’d go for the bag, though I wasn’t planning on letting you succeed.”
“What do you mean?”
“Tell me Ange, why do you steal?”
“I have to.”
“Does your caretaker force you to do it?”
“I don’t… I don’t have one.”
“No family?”
I shook my head. The truth was more complicated, but any family I had was far away now and doesn’t even know about me. My so-called caretaker was nothing but a violent drunk that I had run away from months ago. It was easier to just deny both existing.
“I see… So if I were to kill you here and now, no one would come looking for you?”
I felt my body turn cold from her words. There wasn’t a trace of her threat being fake, her tone was calm but her eyes was that of a killer. I was ready to cry and plead for mercy, but I just stood there, frozen in fear. So she asked me again.
“Answer my question, Ange. Would anyone care if you died?”
“...no.”
“How old are you?”
“...seven.”
“I’ll give you a choice, Ange. Either we part ways here and you’ll continue stealing, most likely leading to your death by someone who catches you like I did. Or you come with me.”
“Huh? Come with you where?”
“To a new home, a home perfect for someone like you.”
The woman, who I were told to only refer to as 7, took me to the orphanage on Stanford Hill. We travelled by train and Seven ordered food for me without even asking. Despite still being unnerved by her behaviour, I accepted her hospitality. Of course, I would have accepted food from anyone at the moment.
Once we arrived at the orphanage she left me in their care, saying she’d keep in touch. I was given new clothes and a room that I shared with another girl a few years older than me who I was told had just arrived shortly before I did. We weren’t allowed to leave the orphanage, which confused me at first, but I would rather spend an eternity in there than go back out on the streets.
The girl I shared a room with didn’t say much at first. The caretakers hadn’t even gotten her to tell them her name yet. She had a rough appearance despite her beautiful features, having clear scars and bruises left from being beaten over and over. I didn’t want to imagine what she had gone through, so I chose not to pry.
When it came to studies, the other children would quickly take note of how far ahead of them I were. Many couldn't read or write yet, so I stood out as a prodigy. I always finished first on tests with the highest possible score. I know it caused some to talk behind my back, but I didn’t care.
My roommate would slowly start opening up over the first couple of months as well, revealing that she was actually quite talkative when she wanted to be. I would listen to her talk, often without responding to her myself. It might seem rude, but she seemed to enjoy the one-sided conversations we had and I’m a rather introverted person, so it worked out for us both.
The caretakers finally got her to tell them her name as well. It was Dorothy. She never actually told me herself, supposedly because I didn’t ask, but I’d overhear it from time to time. Because of my grades I would be moved up to the older girls’ classes as well, meaning me and Dorothy would spend the entire days together. She’d talk, I’d listen, that’s how our interactions went.
It was about a year after I had been taken in that 7 made contact with me again, this time explaining what I had accepted when I followed her here. The orphanage was part of the Commonwealth’s intelligence agency and the children allowed to come here were seen as potential candidate for their espionage training program.
There’s an orphanage on Stanford Hill.
An orphanage for children whose disappearance won’t matter to the world. Children who can become useful assets if given the right opportunity. Children who are taught how to survive when their life have no value. Children who can be molded into perfect spies.
I am one of those children.
