I will say, it kinda irks me when people say Ramon's looking for a new dad/wants Pac to be his dad because that's just,, not true

Ramon wants Fit to have someone. He's pushing him into Pac's arms not because he's looking for a new father figure, but because he's scared Fit will end up alone if he isn't there anymore (a sentiment especially strong after being away from him for over 2 months and being made more aware of his own mortality than ever).

And he's especially not doing it because of his own affection towards Pac – he's never shown any particular attachment to him beyond hanging out with him when his dad did – but because Fit likes him, and he'd push him towards anyone he likes. Hell, at some point he even thought Fit might like Bagi (which prompted the 'mom or dad' question)! It has nothing to do with who the person is and everything to do with his dad's happiness

But Ramon himself doesn't need a dad, he's never needed one. He's always been perfectly happy with only one parent, even after Spreen's departure. It's not a parent he wants; it's a partner for Fit, which will happen to make that person his parent. No more, no less

#this is half about the fandom and half about myself btw #when Ramon started playing wingman it upset me in a way I couldn't understand but after yesterday I get it #it's because to me the idea of Ramon looking for a dad was kind of out of character #but the idea of Ramon looking for his dad's happiness makes a lot more sense #idk. on hua cheng's morality and self esteem

on my first read of the book, i was actually convinced that hua cheng was this amoral asshole but that's just what he WANTS you to think. hua cheng actually cares a lot about ghost city (founded to combat the injustice of ghost persecution btw), he just downplays his achievements in front of xie lian because he doesn't want to 'trick' him into liking him. he also sees any accomplishments as a direct result of dianxia's influence so it would be wrong to take credit for them. perhaps hundreds of years of playing the part of the terrible calamity skewed his perception of himself even further.

in his introduction in heaven, they say how he would "Sometimes... carry out a massacre in cold blood, and sometimes he would do odd acts of kindness" (page 157, book 1) which makes me wonder what heaven defines as "cold blood." he visibly dislikes the man who bet his daughter's life and mentions killing several tyrants. in creating e'ming, he nearly destroyed himself in order to save those mortals. on the casino in ghost city, "If I don’t control a place like this, then someone else will. I’d rather that person be me." (page 107, book 2.) he has a very strong sense of justice that he hides under 3 million layers of arrogance.

xie lian gets the ability to tell if he is lying early in the book and sees him for who he really is. they're very similar in that they have this drive to do good in the world but think about it and go about it in very different ways. hua cheng even mentions that it doesn't matter how you go about saving the common people, and that xie lian over-complicates what is right and wrong and should do what he wants... but he wouldn't turn that logic on himself :/

I feel like Choso’s a good boy 🥺, or at least really tries to be. He knows he shouldn’t look. But the sounds of the shower running are almost deafening. The knowledge of your state behind the door, the steam traveling from the bathroom, making your scent all that much harder to ignore. It’s all an assault on his senses. Choso thinks he might explode, his body so tense it might snap from how hard he tried to keep himself sat on the edge of the bed.

Oh, there are so many fun ways to play out this scenario 😏 because you’re right. Choso is a good boy. He’s a sweet boy. He does not want to overstep or come across as rude or untrustworthy. So, he breathes in to calm himself, his lashes fluttering because the scent coming from the bathroom is intoxicating. He slowly unties his hair, allowing it to fall to his shoulder then runs his fingers through the midnight strands in frustration. He undresses, removing his top in a meditative trance in an attempt to stop thinking about you lathering your smooth, soft skin in bubbling suds.

His cock twitches in his pants.

“Fuck,” he whispers; a rare swear leaving his lips. His shuts the door of the closet, his fingers pressing so hard into the wood he’s afraid he might hear it snap.

As desirable as the opportunity is, he refuses to take a peek at what’s going on behind the bathroom. He doesn’t even realize how tense he is until he hears the shower stop running.

Little trickles echo in the bathroom, the sound of your shuffling body drawing out an exhale from an exasperated choso.

What he doesn’t expect is for you to step out in a fluffy white towel cocooning your frame, the material barely covering his deepest of temptations. A sheen of dew makes your skin glow underneath the soft lighting, your anxious but curious eyes locking into his own.

“I forgot the bathrobe”

Your voice sounds so sensual despite the slight hesitation, a hesitation which might easily be mistaken as nerves. Choso clenches his fists by his side, the blood drawing to his thick member. His cheeks give him away instantly, burning a bright shade of red that makes him wish he could sink into the ground.

But he’s a good boy, like you said.

A sweet boy.

He simply clears his throat and opens up the cupboard to retrieve his robe. He hands it politely your way, mumbling “here you go” but hating the way his voice cracked.

He quickly side steps around you to head towards the bathroom, locking the door behind him. His back falls to the frame, and he slips his hand underneath his pants to squeeze his aching bulge while the other is fisted between his teeth as he stifles a moan of relief.
