Just a favor
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Warning : cussing, gets steamy 🤭
Word count :1636
Summary: you asked your friend Colby for a favor in which he does it very well.
Pairing: Colby Brock x female reader
“Colby” you called out your friends name running down the stairs almost tripping over the last step in a rush. He called out from the kitchen where he was sitting on the counter a spoon of cereal in one hand and his phone in the other. Running in you slid across the wooden floors due to your socks you came up behind him throwing your arms around his shoulders from behind causing his spoon to hit his bowl of cereal loudly. “ you know I love you so much right? And you’re my absolute favorite person ever.” You gushed at him leaving slobbery kisses on his cheek. Scrunching his nose he put his hand on your face to prevent you from attacking his cheek pushing you away.
“ what do you want ?” He asked grumpily wiping off your kisses causing you to pout at him.
“ I need you to pretend to be my boyfriend.” You told him going straight to the point. You were supposed to be filming a scene with your ex boyfriend today for the show you were cast in, you broke things off with him because he was controlling and he continued to message you thinking he still had a chance. During your whole relationship he hated Colby because he knew Colby had a crush on you but you weren’t the type to cheat and reassured him but it wasn’t enough so what better way to show up than with the guy he was jealous of. Plus Colby owed you for covering for him when he was in prank wars.
“Why?” He asked turning to look at you on his stool. “ josh is supposed to be a guest in this episode we’re filming and I want him to lay off.” You whined hoping that Colby would say yes because he liked you that much. “ no , why pretend, when it can be real.” He smiled his beautiful smile at you cheeks bones lifted while he grabbed your hand to pull you in. You yelped stumbling into his parted legs hands resting on his shoulder to keep yourself from falling into him. You were nose to nose with him your wide eyes staring into his blue ones. “ oh my god Colby yes or no.” You asked pushing off his shoulders. “ do I get to kiss you.” He asked quirking an eyebrow at you. You rolled your eyes at his childish behavior. “ yeah whatever.” You mumbled walking away to get ready. “ love you” he called at your retreating figure getting a middle finger in return.
****************
You had to rush Colby to get ready so you could Make it to hair and makeup but he had taken his sweet time getting ready almost making you late. You were running through the studio building the set was set up in, Colby’s fingers interlaced with yours so he wouldn’t get lost. He tried to keep up with your scurrying feet trying to dodge people as easily as you did but it was hard when he was a lot more taller than you. He couldn’t even enjoy the feeling of your hands interlocked with each other because it felt like you were going to dislocate his shoulder every time you did a sudden turn as you tugged him along.
To his relief you had made it into the hair and makeup trailer following you in as you barged in but in a calmer pace. You wanted to groan out loud seeing your ex sitting in one of the chairs getting his hair done looking up from his phone to look at you his eyes lighting up. The joy didn’t last once he caught sight of the blue eyed boy trailing behind him. Smirking to yourself you turn around to face your friend reaching for his hand. “ baby you can sit over there.” You smiled at Colby pointing over to the couch against the wall. He nodded about to walk away but you surprised him by tugging on his shirt catching his attention once more. You leaned up on your tippy toes and placed a kiss on his lips causing his breathe to hitch before pulling away and smiling up at him and skipping away to your chair. He stared at you dumbstruck that you actually went through with kissing him, something he had been wanting to do since he met you. His attention was token away from you at the sound of your ex slamming the trailer door on his way out angrily.
************
You had finished getting ready and change so you led Colby to sit on your chair while you filmed so he could watch you in action. He still couldn’t shake off the kiss you had given him early and he found himself wanting to feel your lips again, now that he had gotten a taste he wanted more. But His flirty demeanor was suddenly gone making him act all shy around you otherwise he would’ve stolen a couple kisses from you using the excuse that he was your “boyfriend”. You kissed his cheek goodbye running off a couple feet away to speak to the director about your scene. Now that you were somewhere else his attention was able to wonder off, he looked around in amazement at the production sight. It was like a colony of ants, everyone scurrying around talking loudly trying to get work done, it was an incredible sight. As he finished looking at the set his eyes met those of your ex causing his eyebrows to raise in amusement at the glare that was being sent his way. Feeling confident all over again he smiled smugly at him raising his hand and wiggling his fingers in a hello motion to antagonize him. He laughed at the visible scowl your ex portrayed moving his eyes back to your figure where you were walking towards set your ex heading that way for the scene.
**********
You hadn’t mentioned that your ex would be your love interest for this episode so Colby sat there angrily as your ex kept messing up the scene on purpose. You were getting impatient and irritated that he kept kissing you wrong on purpose even though the director had gotten onto him, he kept moving his head weird so he could block the cameras angle. Finally having enough you asked for a time out running off set and towards Colby. Your ex called your name but you ignored him angrily grabbing Colby’s hand and yanking him towards the back. “ woah hey slow down.” He pulled on your hand trying to calm you down. You sighed running your fingers through your hair in frustration. “ he’s doing that on purpose Colby! It’s fucking annoying and he’s going to slow production down.” You rambled angrily glaring over at your ex who was staring at you guys.
Colby frowned at your frustration state knowing how serious you took your job, it upset him knowing that jackass was making it hard on you just to be petty. Letting out a sigh he grabbed your Chin making you look him in the eyes. “ I know mama but you just have to do your part. Let him get in trouble. He’s taking advantage of the situation but at the end of the day you’re not going back to him and he knows that.” He reassured you trying to lift your spirits up which seemed to lift your spirits up just a tiny bit by the nod of your head. “ here I’ll get him off your ass.” He told you feeling confident in his next move. Before you could ask what he meant he pulled you in by your cheeks placing his lips on yours. It was just as good as the first one and he was going to make the most of it not getting enough of your plump lips against him.
Your head was spinning the smell of his cologne overwhelming you in the best way, you wanted to moan at the feeling of his fingers gripping your cheek and the other one that rest on your hip. You wanted nothing more than to go back to your trailer and letting him have his way with you with the way he was kissing you. The sound of your whimper traveled straight to his dick when he pulled back gently tucking on your button lip with his teeth, he let out a moan when you chased his lips wanting more. “ we’ll finish this later.” He promised knowing you were seeing him in a new light. He knew you no longer saw him as your friend and he was excited for you to wrap up so you could continue, he couldn’t get enough of you.
You looked so pretty to him, droopy eyes, swollen lips and breathless as you looked at him like he put the stars in the sky.
You honestly don’t know why you kept rejecting his advances towards you but after that kiss you felt like an idiot for doing so. You could’ve been getting kissed silly but you were so foolish and kept rejecting the gorgeous man in front you.
Nodding in agreement still in a daze from him you received one more kiss before being pushed by Colby towards set. Your ex had completely left your mind but he was furious and after that display he made sure to get it right not wanting to think of Colby’s lips on yours. Luckily for you he wanted to get as far away from you as possible allowing you to wrap up so you could go back to the awaiting boy. You guys laughed at your exs behavior happy that the message was loud and clear and he wouldn’t be bothering you anymore. In a happy mood you guys went home where you could continue your business in private.

Lake Laogai
This Lake had better have Appa in it. With little water wings on.
Skipping the commentary as usual.
The Previously On section suggests that a whole lot of plot threads are about to crash into each other. Strap in folks.
Lefty Sokka!
Beat up Sokka quota fulfilled by his sister's critique of his art skills. It's not like he had paper to practice with at the South Pole.
Sometimes I forget that Aang is 12, then he does something like attempt to rescue his pet from a nefarious city-wide conspiracy of silence with lost cat posters.
"Good tea is its own reward." That means no, he isn't paid enough.
Tumblr media
Remember what I said in my last post about Iroh bringing too much attention to himself?
"senior executive assistant manager" someone on the writing team has worked retail I see. Nothing like meaningless promotions with no raise attached! It's right up there with employee pizza party.
I have to pause here and point something out. This whole scene with Iroh? This is an adult fantasy. I don't mean dirty, I mean this whole scene was put in specifically to appeal to the adults who got roped in to watching this kids' show by their children. A rich man walks through the door of your shitty retail job, immediately spots your natural greatness, and offers you a much better paying job with unlimited creative freedom and a better house to go with it? Find me a burnt out retail worker who hasn't conjured up this fantasy five times a shift.
Tumblr media
And so the plots come crashing back together. This won't end badly.
"patience really pays off" I checked. He waited literally three seconds.
Tumblr media
Shout out to Toph in the background playing catch with a ball she can't see. Casual flex of epic proportions.
Remind me never to go to Lake Laogai. Sounds like it's lousy with Ju Dees.
So the Ju Dees don't know about each other? Because she seems honestly confused. Does Ju Dee think she's the only Ju Dee? What happens if two Ju Dees run into each other in the street?
Posters are illegal but I haven't heard a peep about recarving a bunch of fields into a zoo.
Tumblr media
This is maybe the second time Aang's blown up over Appa. Frankly he deserves more blow ups about the whole situation.
Tumblr media
I don't think knocking down walls will help find Appa, but I applaud Toph's spirit.
They took out a whole wall and then exit by the door anyways. That's funny.
Tumblr media
I really hate this guy, but I have to admit that he may be the first truly competent villain of the series.
'The Jasmine Dragon' also lets anyone with half a brain know that you're Fire Nation. Try the Jasmine Badgermole instead.
Zuko really can't catch a break, huh? He wasn't happy being a tea server, but at least he was resting. But every time he gets five minutes to himself, the main plot reappears to drag him back into the action, whether he wants to or not. Although he hasn't figured out that he doesn't want to be dragged back yet.
Tumblr media
Every line of dialogue in this scene is a good point. Zuko's right, Iroh's right. The Zuko's right again, then Iroh's right again.
Tumblr media
YES YES YES GET HIS ASS
That was satisfying!
Tumblr media
I'm not understanding why Sokka is the voice of reason here. Is he incapable of holding a grudge? He's the one that had all the animosity with Jet to begin with. Shouldn't it be Aang who wants to hear him out?
Toph is a living lie detector now? I can't think of an example off the top of my head, but I'm sure that could have come in handy previously. Any other incredibly useful skills we should know about?
Jet is oddly defensive for someone who claims to know he did wrong.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ever get so excited that your spine malfunctions?
Sokka just has a metre long map in his pocket. Good friend to have in a pinch.
Tumblr media
Avatar first! Katara is rude to an old person!
Tumblr media
I'm going to have fun with Toph's new ability.
Tumblr media
Toph, you have never been more right. It is the worst city ever. You are really shining this episode.
Tumblr media
I know this is a serious scene, but I need to point out that Jet's guyliner is on point.
Tumblr media
This shot is jarringly out of place. I think it's because it both black and white, and live action. Those have to be real clouds.
So the Blue Spirit can talk after all. Careful, your Zuko is showing.
Tumblr media
Wow Zuko is good at sewing. And fast too.
Tumblr media
Sokka is having far too much fun with this whole 'prompt Jet's memory' thing. Maybe he does have a bit of a grudge after all.
Katara can reverse brainwashing now too? Everyone's levelling up this episode.
Tumblr media
This scene with the planks is a very cool and disorienting visual.
Didn't have 'the gaang breaks into a brainwashing facility' on my ATLA bingo card.
Tumblr media
Pretty.
OMIGOD IT'S AP- did Zuko just break the fourth wall?
Tumblr media
Everyone always forgets to look up.
So this fight is going to be Toph v. all of the Dai Li while everyone else tries not to get in Toph's way.
Tumblr media
That's a boat.
Toph could probably take all these guys out faster if she wasn't having to constantly break off to save everyone else from them.
The Dai Li prancing up walls is a really cool visual. It's very Ty Lee of them.
Tumblr media
I love watching her work.
Why don't you let Long Feng escape? He's no longer threatening you, and you're down there to rescue Appa. Just let him go.
Tumblr media
The security on Lake Laogai is a joke.
Big words from someone who also had no plan whatsoever at the North Pole.
Zuko knows that Iroh's right. He knows, and that's important. I don't think Iroh is saying anything that Zuko hasn't thought and then hurriedly pretended to have never thought about before. It's why he says 'stop it' rather than being completely confused as to what Iroh is referring to.
Poor Appa's like 'can you have a crisis of self after you free me please?'
'You've chosen your own demise." No. You chose it for him. That's some top tier deflection/victim blaming right there.
Longshot can talk!
That's one hell of a set up and pay off re: Toph's lie detecting abilities.
Poor Jet. A double tragedy: to be likeable only when you're brainwashed, and to dedicate your life to wiping out the Fire Nation yet being killed by the Earth Kingdom.
Hi Appa. It's about time buddy.
Shockingly in character for Appa's first actions to be to single handedly save the Gaang from a threat.
You skip that bastard like a stone.
Tumblr media
Everyone go and listen to the sound Appa makes when he spits out Long Feng's shoe. It's delightful.
Tumblr media
I am framing this.
Tumblr media
And this too.
Tumblr media
I can tell there's some shmymbolism here, but it's gone right over my head.
Final Thoughts
Appa is back. The Gaang has Appa back. I have Appa back. Ok. I can relax now. With any luck, this means we can leave Ba Sing Se.
This episode felt like City of Walls and Secrets, Part 2. I think it was a good decision to have a couple of episodes between the two, but I think there would be some tonal whiplash if you binged this section of season 2. Which wouldn't have been a problem for a show designed to air once a week, so it's a moot point.
So Zuko freed Appa from his chains, and presumably pointed him in the direction of a door or something. Or maybe not; Appa has a ridiculously hard head, he could have busted his way out. Either way, Zuko broke the chains. Thanks Zuko!
In season 1, Zuko finds the Avatar the world had lost. In season 2, Zuko finds the Sky Bison the Avatar had lost. So in season 3, Zuko will find something Appa has lost. I wonder what that will be?
Jet being killed by the Earth Kingdom is so deliciously ironic, and tragic, yet very in character for the Earth Kingdom's approach to this war. It's also literally this:
Tumblr media
Smellerbee and Longshot have really gotten the short end of the stick over and over this season. They were the only ones to decide to stick with Jet. Presumably they were the only ones who believed that he had had a legitimate change of heart. And they were kind of wrong. They get to Ba Sing Se only for Jet to immediately backslide way past even where he was at his worst in Season 1. He completely discounts and dismisses their legitimate concerns for his methods and his overall health. Then Jet gets arrested and disappears for two (?) weeks. So what do they do now? Get jobs? Steal so they don't starve? Then suddenly Jet's back but he doesn't even remember them. Then suddenly Jet's dead. The whole point of coming to Ba Sing Se just died, in a way that shows very clearly that their desire to help with the war is not welcome at all in the city. So what now? Do they leave and try to fight in the war from outside the walls? Do they settle down and try to forget about the war? Things did spiral completely out of Jet's control once the Dai Li got involved, but you have to admit that he's left his only remaining friends up a creek.
Sokka had some good jokes but was oddly ok with this episode's events. Toph had some great lines and got to shine with a new skill that any writer with half a brain will bring back in future episodes. She felt like the audience substitute this episode, which is usually Sokka's role. Toph was episode MVP for sure. Poor Aang took a bit of a back seat this episode. Zuko finally hit the crisis point, and may well have made his first indisputably correct decision of the series. But, as previous episodes have gone out of their way to show me that Zuko being good always goes badly for Zuko, I'm sure freeing Appa will somehow come back to bite him.
Iroh's question of "who are you? And what do you want?" was Zuko's entire character arc this season. He took a shot at answering the "who are you?" portion in Zuko Alone, and sort of halfway got there before messing up at the end of the episode. As for the "what do you want?" Zuko will tell you (often and repeatedly) that he wants his honour back. But I think he just wants to go home. The thing is, I strongly suspect that the home Zuko wants to return to hasn't existed since his mother left, if it ever existed at all. Which means that while "who are you?" has an answer Zuko can work towards, "what do you want?" has an answer that is kind of impossible. So Zuko is going to have to learn to want something new.
RIP Jet. Your life was fucked to Hell long before you were old enough to try and salvage it. You'll probably be missed by more people than you strictly deserve. War sucks, amirite?

BOBBY DAWN????
STUPID IDIOT MOTHERFUCKING BOBBY DAWN GOD DAMN FOOL SOL WORSHIPPING CORN EATING RAT OLD BASTARD SHITHEAD IDIOT CLERIC OF THE WHORE BIGGEST CLOWN IN THE CIRCUS LAUGHED OUT OF TOWN COWBOY MOTHERFUCKING BOBBY DAWN
STOP PINNING ME WHEN I TALK ABOUT BOBBY DAWN I HATE HIM SO MUCH WHY DOES HE HAVE SO MANY FUCKED UP RULES JUST LET KRISTEN PASS IS HE DEAD IS HE A BASTARD MAN HAS SUCH A VISCERAL EFFECT ON ME ONLY SEEN HIS FACE IN THE ART AND I KNOW HE HAS THE WORLD'S SHITTIEST BEARD GET AWAY FROM ME
If I wanted to get into Heaven and Helio said that Bobby Dawn's waiting inside I would piss on Helio's feet for the sole purpose of getting sent back down
If I have to deal with Bobby Dawn speaking one more word in person on voice in the episode not only will I close the tab I will delete my bookmark out of spite and have to rewatch the entire series again for the experience of being able to skip all of the times when he is mentioned or alive
I don't even know why I hate him so much. He's just a cleric of Sol but I am just mad because I am angy
He better have some fucked up backstory to explain this because if it turns out he's just a self-righteous shithead who likes Sol so he can be a total control freak I'll go ham
BETTER have heard Sol make him kill a man cuz if he didn't I'm gonna make him
paypal.com/IfuckinghateBobbyDawn
Episode's barely even about him. Brief scene where he failed Kristen and acted like a total dick and I lost it
Where the fuck is Bobby Dawn if he's still alive I'm going to so deeply wish he wasn't
Crusty old man
I'll punch Bobby and his sad frail old man twig bones will simply flake apart under my epic huge meat fist and he will disintegrate until all that's left is one final sermon he kept with him at all times simply entitled "Now You Fucked Up" in ancient Solicean
I'm not breathing I'm hyperventilating at this point
I hope there's a date given for when Bobby Dawn died or will die so I can make a reminder on my phone
Every day once a year I will see it and do anything but pay respects to the man who had so many fucked up if true beliefs
(I'm sorry I had to)

I would like to focus on the music chosen for Hob Gadling's 80s sequence.
I'm extremely late to the world of The Sandman (finally binged it two weeks ago after my mother had been begging me to watch it with her and now I'm more obsessed than her) Bottom line: I'm unbelievably glad I finally watched this beautiful piece of television.
I have yet to read the comics but as for the first season, I have to say, without a doubt, my favorite episode is Chapter 6: The Sound of Her Wings. Death's 20-min segment is a beauty unto itself, but I'll be focusing on Hob's segment today. Specifically, his 80s scenes.
Considering I'm so late to this fandom and exploring all of its wondrous details and themes, excuse me if this has already been noted. I've been thinking about these details over and over but I need to get it out there in the Sandman world and hear everyone else's thoughts.
*Also excuse the terrible photos - Netflix doesn't let you screenshot and I was too lazy to get another app to let me bypass it. Please bear with my photos of my laptop screen.*
There are three songs that play throughout this sequence.
#1 - "She Drives Me Crazy" by Fine Young Cannibals
Tumblr media
I accidentally deleted half my post mid-writing this but here I go again.
As we can see, after the breakup scene, we open up on Hob Gadling (he looks amazing in his 80s look, by the way) and this song plays.
Here are the lyrics:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I mean - where do I even start LMAO.
*Let me just give another note - regardless if you ship Dreamling romantically or not, I will be merely analyzing these lyrics as they are and how they convey Hob's feelings for Dream in general. But, I mean, the songs are THERE, the text is THERE. So do with that what you will.*
This will go for the following two songs as well, but these songs are placed with meaningful intention. Each of these offer a unique lens and dive into Hob's feelings.
Tumblr media
I won't be annoying and over-explain anything, but the lyrics are clear I feel:
"She drives me crazy" - cough
"Things you do don't seem real" - in Hob's view, Dream literally is an enigma. Hob has no idea the capacities, the limits, and even the name of this being he meets every century.
"This waiting 'round's killing me" - well.
"Everything you say is lies" - now I wouldn't say particularly lies, but Dream does keep and omit things from Hob. Understandably, Hob would find himself in a confused limbo with Dream.
Here's the kicker:
"I won't make it on my own/No one likes to be alone." - HELLO. I mean, if this isn't the core message and pinnacle of Dream and Hob's lesson to immortality.
As Death mentions earlier in the episode, around 18:10, "Most of us will be glad for the company of a friend."
Tumblr media
I feel I could go on forever and ever about the beauty of this episode and how well The Sound of Her Wings and Men of Good Fortune intertwine. They beautifully complement each other as stories lamenting the dichotomy of life and death, and the joys of humanity.
But essentially, Death reteaches Dream how beautiful humans can truly be, and in this pivotal moment, she says this zinger of a line. The camera was initially on Death but for THIS line, it cuts to Dream.
BECAUSE - poor Dream is definitely in need a friend.
Which is then shown to the audience by the 30-min long Hob Gadling sequence that ensues, and we see Dream's aversion to needing someone, to needing a friend.
But I digress - back to the song, and that one line about not wanting to be alone.
That is such a poignant line, because as much as Dream felt alone and needed company, so does Hob? An immortal, constantly seeing the death of others around him, his companions and family long gone, he needs someone.
Considering this 80s sequence ruminates so heavily on post-breakup feelings, Hob is missing Dream dearly. His constant in life.
I'm rambling too much, onto the next one!
#2 - "Shattered Dreams" by Johnny Hates Jazz
Tumblr media
Time skip to perhaps a few hours later, who knows. We see Hob still waiting for Dream, alone in the pub.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hm.
Literally what else could I say. I'm being slapped in the face with pining and angst and longing.
Here are the lyrics:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Some noteworthy lyrics:
"So much for your promises/They died the day you let me go" - this breakup man
"Caught up in a web of lies" - another lie motif
"I thought it was you/Who would stand by my side" - the theme of Dream and Hob being constants in each other's lives
"Shattered dreams" - I could scream. The title of the song. SHATTERED. DREAMS. giggling rn.
"Woke up to reality" - I think that's a very interesting line toeing between the constant references of the Waking and the Dreaming
Basically, I've been noting these evident similarities within the songs to align themselves to Dream and Hob's situation, and it's clear that the director/writers chose these songs with intent of it paralleling Dreamling.
So that makes it even more insane when lines like "From this empty heart" are meant to parallel Hob. Like.
Okay, last song.
#3 - "Keep On Moving" by Soul II Soul
Tumblr media
This song plays as the night progresses. It's late, it's clear Dream isn't showing up, and Hob is feeling pretty final about that, and perhaps he's accepted it at this point. Dream isn't coming.
So this is where he speaks to the bartender and that scene ensues.
Here are the lyrics:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The themes of time and clocks are super prevalent within this song, and again it's once more clear how heavily this reflects and represents Hob.
Noteworthy lyrics:
"Why do people choose to live their lives this way?" - I think this also uniquely touches on the general aspect of humanity and one's reason to live/love life. Dream battles with his confusion/slight disappointment for humanity at the beginning, as he asks Death, "Why would any sensible creature crave an eternity of this?" And then Hob helps Dream realize why there's so much to live for. (24:30)
"I know the time will come today/The time will come one day"
"Walking alone in my own way" - Again this idea of walking alone and needing company.
"You'll be in my life, my life always" - Dream and Hob being constants again.
This all goes to say - Hob cares. He cares for Dream.
And I just think that's very beautiful. The magnitude with which Dream's absence means to him and how much their friendship/companionship both means to each of them. I just think their connection is a beautiful thing that I love seeing and rewatching. Wonderfully, these songs give the audience even more layered insight into this connection.
This was super long, and I apologize if I went on some tangents. But I also just couldn't help it, The Sandman is so incredibly rich in its storytelling and its connections and dynamics that I had to write this all down. I also just very much appreciate the amount of care and detail that goes into every aspect of television, and needle drops such as these three songs are no exception.
Thank you for sticking with me through this! Can't wait for season 2!

pt XII good omens sEAsOn 2 (the non-traumatic part) episode 1
Alright yes I know, I know, it's been two days since the livestream. I was reading fanfiction. Don't blame me, love made me crazy, and all that. I'm enjoying myself as much as I can before we get to the season 2 finale. But here we go, season 2, episode one, maggots:
[on reading this back after finishing, a lot of text is my being in love with Crowley. mainly, points 3, 4, 9, 14, 17, 18, yes I have issues, feel free to skip that for an absolutely concise and precise summary]
Before the livestream starts, everyone decides that there will be no spoilers whatsoever on the chat, even hidden with the black, because I have a tendency to keep clicking and revealing them. I'm sorry, temptation and all. I have emotional support fruit, an apple, two kiwis, two sapotes and two bananas.
When the livestream starts, it has to be restarted, because I am an incompetent nincompoop and have somehow managed to muck up my settings. And it is absolutely imperative that I watch the opening scene.
So then I do. And immediately have to consume my emotional support apple because I am so fucking in love with Crowley. Already? someone asks. Yes bloody already, I need that apple.
Thanks, guys. I'm broken. Crowley. Just. She looks so peaceful and untraumatised, so delighted with the plans, so full of wonder at what she's creating. Let there be light, she says, and rather than seeing Crowley turn off a streetlight with a flick of his fingers, we get to see her create nebulas. Aziraphale looks at her and he's just instantly so spellbound, and who would bloody blame him? His wings just do a slight dip of realisation that he's fucked when Crowley says the gorgeous line. Look at Crowley. Worried about the apocalypse. Smiling at Aziraphale, and we can see Azi's concern because something as pure as that has to be protected and Aziraphale knows what Heaven will do to Crowley if she dares to ask questions. Crowley is angelic and filled with light and Aziraphale sees that and tries to keep her safe with his words.
Hey spoiler alert, it doesn't work, Crowley's wings are greying even as she protects Azi and Crowley falls and I hate everything and I am filled with unbridled rage.
UNDERSTAND? RAGE.
I am speculating how much pain and torture Crowley went through when she fell into Hell that first time. I am told to not ask questions I don't want answers to.
Maggie sells records, Aziraphale is a cutiepie, and Maggie is very gay for Nina.
Crowley is lounging on a park bench, suit and skinny tie, just being all sexy and demonic and probably contemplating nihilism.
Crowley spreads awareness about duck health. No bread, guys. Frozen peas. He also angsts a lot to Shax (whom I keep mixing up with Michael) about the meaning of life. Someone points out that this is very Barbie of him. "do you ever think about death". Ah, Crowley.
More lesbians gaying. I would kill for Nina's hair.
JIMBRIEL IN THE HOUSE. I WON'T SAY ANYMORE ABOUT HIS ENTRANCE BECAUSE THIS IS NOW A TOPIC OF CONTROVERSY. BUT JIMBRIEL IN THE HOUSE.
Aziraphale, ah I love him, absolutely fucking panics and has the loading symbol over his angelic little head at all times. FINALLY, THIS SHOW IS A COMEDY.
Crowley is leaning on his Bentley and mmmmhm his arms and his lounging and his personality I am back to crunching on my temptation emotional support apple.
Sorry back to the summary. Jim finds Aziraphale funny and says he loves him. Someone points out that this was the fandom upon encountering my dumbass self. "You're funny Asmi we love you."
Aziraphale is a little bitchy babygirl, really just enough of a bastard to be worth knowing. Just absolutely slaying through every Jimbriel scene. 100000/10.
Six shots of fucking espresso in a big cup. Crowley, I love you. Can I love Crowley any more than this? Yes I can. My love for Crowley is like the universe, infinite and yet ever-expanding, explosive with entropy.
Crowley holds the door open for Aziraphale and holds his plate and honestly what absolute husband (gn) behaviour.
CROWLEY MEETS JIMBRIEL WHO IS FUCKING DUSTING AND LEAPS BACKWARD AND JUST RELIVES TRAUMA WHILE JIM IS CHILLING AND AZIRAPHALE IS STILL GAY PANICKING. I LOVE THIS SHOW.
MARRIAGE QUARRELS ABOUT ADOPTING JIM, JUST ANOTHER DAY IN THE FELL-CROWLEY HOUSEHOLD.
Coffeeshop AU lesbians time.
Heaven is horrible.
MURIEL IS BABY I LOVE THEM HELLO CUTIEPATOOTIE.
There is an ethereal paper file.
Beezlebub beezles their way into Crowley's car and is very concerned in Hell about finding Jimbriel.
Nina's partner is a toxic ass don't worry about it.
Sulky Crowley says he's back and apology dance time mmmhm.
Miracle hide Jimbriel time, but they've got to be subtle. They do the miracle. Jim is glad to have friends.
They are very proud of themselves for their subtle miracle.
THEY ARE SO FUCKING USELESS. FUCKING USELESS LITTLE GAYASS DISASTERS JESUS LORD IN HEAVEN. LITERALLY IN HEAVEN ALARM BELLS ARE EVERYWHERE.
GREAT JOB, GAYS. GREAT JOB.
End of episode one. Take this screenshot.

Doctor Who, but Chronologically: 46
Back to the 1980s! Fun fun fun. Or not, because it's now 1983 and we're watching a Mark Gatiss episode set on a Soviet nuclear sub, which is. Well. Not fun. He's a very boring writer. Lots of stereotypes in both plot and set pieces, and a general feel that he'd have made a very good writer in the 1960s. WITH THAT SAID THOUGH I remember absolutely hating this episode at the time, but on a rewatch, I'm delighted to say it's actually very solidly just below average.
So, Matt Smith and Clara again - ironically, in the air date order we've only skipped backwards by one. Here, they land on said Soviet sub in the middle of the Cold War. Because this is a Gatiss episode, every single person on it is a white man, because aliens and time travel are fine, but women would be Pushing It. Fun fact! This is the first time since 1978 where the only woman is the companion. Two of these white men, in accordance with the laws of Films About Russian Submarines During The Cold War, are at loggerheads because one wants to blow up America and the other thinks nuking the planet is Bad, Actually. Oddly, even this tension feels like a shoehorned-in stereotype, given that the nasty one dies like a third of the way in, but whatever.
ANYWAY the nuclear sub has found what they think is a mammoth in some ice, and Cold War nuclear subs are famous for wanting to advance the plight of natural history museums, so they have it on board. Unfortunately, some science-hating one-scene character decides that thawing out a dead mammoth carcass to continue decomposing in an enclosed submarine is a fantastic idea, and so thaws it with... well, a blowtorch, somehow. This reveals that the mammoth is not a mammoth! It's an Ice Warrior! We've met their queen. It immediately chokes out and kills the idiot with the blow torch.
(Another Fun Fact! This is the first televised Ice Warrior story to feature no Ice Warriors played by actors from Trinidad.)
Meanwhile, Clara and the Doctor arrive and nearly get arrested, then in a scene that belongs in a mildly tedious 1950s it's-behind-you farce, the Ice Warrior turns up on the bridge. It gets assaulted by the nasty Russian who wants to nuke America. This then sets off the premise of the episode, which is that there is an Ice Warrior on a stricken nuclear sub that wants to wipe out humanity because Martian honour means "Attack one, attack all" - as multiple characters stress multiple times, because the Nasty Russian attacked it, the Ice Warrior now gets to kill everyone. "You attacked me," insists the Ice Warrior at one point.
Which is very interesting, given that the first scene of this damned Ice Warrior was of him attacking stupid blowtorch boy.
Obviously, this is just resolved by convincing the Ice Warrior not to kill everyone, and then an Ice Warrior ship turns up and takes it away, presumably back to the queen and that one human guy on Mars. Would he still be alive? Can't remember the year we saw him, now.
SO! What's plot relevant?
Well, this is clearly early Clara - it's her first trip, possibly? We find out about the TARDIS' translation circuits again, which she didn't know about. She gets to have her first Companion Does a Thing scene, I presume (first from her perspective, anyway), but is in fact utterly fucking useless in it, because it's written by Mark Gatiss. Her only actual function in this story is to remind the Ice Warrior that he has a dead daughter, because she is the Only Woman in this story (seriously why did the Ice Warrior have to be male as well? That would have at least HELPED.) Also we find out about the HADS for the first time! If the Doctor leaves it on, the TARDIS just gtfo if it senses danger. Cool. Oh, and another extraordinarily tedious Moffat-era "You are a soldier, Doctor... Another soldier can always tell..." moment.
Otherwise... yeah I think that's it.
Let's update the board!
“She” (an unknown person) is returning (perhaps River returned as Missy. Maybe Me? Maybe Clara???!)
There is something on Donna’s back
An entire planet, Pyrovilia, just… disappeared, somehow. (Maybe because the TARDIS is exploding??? Saturnine was also lost, and that WAS because of the TARDIS exploding. The lion man’s planet was also lost but he was a bit of a knob about it if I’m honest. The Thijarian planet was destroyed by some sort of impact). Is this the Flux?
Amy is maybe dead (she’s not)
The Doctor has been cubed (he’s out, but how?)
River is possibly blown up  (unless she’s Missy. Nope: she is definitely not blown up)
The TARDIS has blown up  (It’s fine now. Except it’s sort of melting now because it’s corrupted, but it’s fine again. NOPE, back to not working.)
The universe appears to have ended  (the universe is back again)
The Doctor has employed(?) Nardole
(And Nardole was “reassembled???” Nardole had glass nipples and invisible hair?? WHAT THE FUCK IS HE)
There’s a vault in the TARDIS and it contains Missy but we don’t know why (sometimes she knocks for the bants)
There’s an immortal Viking girl now. Her name is Me and she’s now looking after the people the Doctor abandons
Why was Rory entirely unconcerned by the entire world suddenly going silent when that is Not Normal and should have been, at the very least, extremely disconcerting?
What did the Doctor do to Queen Lizzie One?
Why is Amy seeing a one-eyed woman in a vanishing window? (She’s with the Silents, but we don’t know why Amy saw her)
Why is Amy’s pregnancy inconclusive? (Maybe because the baby had Time Lord DNA?) She’s deffo pregnant and the baby becomes River, but why inconclusive?
Who is Sarah-Jane Smith?
How is the Doctor Bill’s teacher and why/where does he have an office?
What is going on with the Cyber War and the Cyberium???
What happened with the Other Cyber War?
What happened with the Third War that deleted the void?
Why does Rose seem particularly important?
What order do these Doctors go in? (Eccleston, Tennant, uncertain, Smith, Capaldi, Whittaker)
Which companion just… forgot the Doctor, and how?
Yaz and Vinder are about to die as Mori/Mwri/Muuri (Not anymore, somehow)
There is a Lupari shield around Earth.
What’s a Time War?
What’s the Rift?
What’s Bad Wolf?
In which war did the Doctor become a war criminal, and how?
Who is the Master?
Why has Amy forgotten Rory? How did she forget a Dalek invasion?
Is Rory plastic or not? Yeah, must be, he couldn’t possibly remember being plastic otherwise
Why is the Doctor sulking on a cloud?
How exactly does the Doctor have a cloud?
What exactly happened with Strax to, uh, tame him?
Which friend killed Strax?
Which friend brought Strax back?
Where did this lesbian lizard and human couple come from?
What happened with Clara as Souffle Girl and the Daleks?
How does Clara actually join?
Why so many Claras?  A psychic midwife says she’s just normal human
Why is Missy apparently in robo-heaven?
Why is probably!Missy pushing Clara and the Doctor together?
What is Trensilor and what happened there?
Who is Handles?
The Doctor is about to be dissolved by a beautiful geode man
The universe is being crushed by the Flux
Will the Doctor open the fobwatch?
Sontarans are invading Earth again
Who is Kate?
Who is Osgood? Another name of Clara’s again?
The fuck is the deal with the Grand Serpent
Does Martha get to go to an ice cream planet with 12-fingered massage aliens?
How did the Doctor forget Clara?
Who is Bill’s puddle girlfriend Heather?
How did Nardole die?
When does Bill get Cyberman-ed and die?
When does the Doctor shrink and enter a Dalek called Rusty?
Whittaker is falling to her death rn
Was that ring relevant?
Does anyone know the Doctor’s name?
When did Yaz talk to Dan about fancying the Doctor?
When did Dan talk to the Doctor about fancying Yaz?
What’s happening with the bees?
What happened with Donna’s ex and a giant spider?
What war wiped out the Daleks, and is it one of the ones already mentioned?
What did the Doctor mean when he said “The (Daleks) always live, while I lose everything?”
If Dalek Caan is the last Dalek left why are there more now?
How did the rest of the Time Lords die?
How and why did Amy melt?
What’s the question that will make silence fall?
Why do the Silents… want silence to fall?
How and why are Silents at war with the Doctor when he… hasn’t even heard of them?
How does Hitler get out of the cupboard?
What’s the significance of fish fingers and custard?
Why does the Doctor feel guilt about Rose, Martha and Donna?
What happened with the space whale?
When does Rory defend Amy for 2000 years? Since Roman times, it seems
How does the Doctor survive River? He doesn’t, apparently
How does he erase himself from history
Did Captain Jack lose his memories to the same people as the Doctor? What did he lose?
When did the Doctor send the Daleks into a void to save the universe?
What’s with the weird crack in the wall and is it affecting memories?
Why do Amy and Rory think the Doctor is dead? Is it because of River as an astronaut?
Is Matt Smith’s Doctor a tree racist?
Why is the beautiful geode woman stealing people into a Passenger form?
River says she’ll die one day when the Doctor doesn’t remember her, let’s hope she doesn’t mean it
Why doesn’t the TARDIS like Clara?

Poll Below
So, I saw someone say yesterday that "most people skim watch Chinese dramas", and that honestly blew my mind. If it has subtitles, I have to watch it and focus on it.
But then several thoughts occurred to me. You see, right now, my friend and I are watching The Longest Promise and The Screen Foxes. To us, The Longest Promise is painfully slow. We thought it was a little slower than most Chinese dramas, but most Chinese dramas are a little bit slow, and The Longest Promise actually feels much slower to us because we hate the main character and, like, half the story decisions so much, we thought. (Sorry, no offense to Longest Promise fans.) We thought that if we actually liked the main character and were invested in her story, the way the show dilly-dallied on every one of her scenes - having her say the same things over and over again, showing a dozen different angles on some magical moment in her life, having her express feelings about something that happened in a previous episode that she had made very clear at the time - would be enjoyable. Meanwhile, before we started The Screen Foxes, I read three different reviews that said the plot moved lightning-fast, bounced all over the place, and didn't make any sense. And ... none of that is true (so far). The plot moves at a normal pace. A thing happens, and then, something else happens as a consequence. There ARE several different interconnected story threads, and we do bounce back and forth between them, but it all makes sense. And last night, it hit me that maybe The Longest Promise is so slow because you're supposed to "skim watch" it. Certainly, if you dip in and out, you can follow the plot very easily. Scenes are long enough that it's hard to miss a whole one if you're checking back in frequently, repetitive enough that you can understand the point of the scene even if you miss three-quarters of it, and the same points are repeated in multiple scenes, so there are very few details you can miss even if you don't watch it too closely. (Plus, the plot is predictable enough that it's easy to follow.) Meanwhile, because The Screen Foxes doesn't dawdle on any points, if you're not actually sitting down and watching, it must seem chaotic and nonsensical. Why are they fighting this green monster now? Wasn't the show about painting a minute ago? The green monster is being used by a Taoist to body-guard a rich family. The Taoist is actually the one who made the family rich. Why? That's the mystery we need to find out. In the meantime, this family used its wealth to cheat in the painting contest from the last episode, so fighting their body guard is advancing that painting plotline too. But if you looked away from the screen during the two minutes where they were explaining all that, then yeah, it would be super confusing why this show just went from a painting contest to a demon fight.
If Chinese dramas are MEANT to be watched in the background, and that's the reason so many of them are so long and slow, then, honestly, my whole worldview has been changed.
So, TLDR: I have to know now: DO most people actually "skim watch" Chinese dramas????

Loving those time skips... am I right everybody? Anyone?
No but seriously.. I just hate big time skips bc the show didn’t make me feel that the characters actually did some growing in that time.
Like if you gonna act like Mhoks character, at that time, wasn’t in the right space for the relationship you have to actually show him doing some changing for me to believe that 3 years later it will work out.
He just seemed to be the same person, who is just as much obsessed with helping and giving than 3 years ago. He still would give up everything for Day and their relationship now. And in fact he fucking does, by not going back to Hawaii and his job even tho Day rejected him.
Like what was the whole point of the time skip? What was the point of everything this episode? And him kinda forcing himself on Day the whole time and Day rejecting him every time. That was also their dynamic 3 years prior. Mhok just acting like he is Days caretaker again. Even tho last episode there was this whole thing with being a boyfriend or caretaker are two different things. Like ????
I don’t know why so many BL I watch open up interesting themes to explore and then throw them in the garbage in the last episodes just to have some random ass drama that no one asked for.
And Day still didn’t get a single scene where he supports Mhok. The show just wants me to believe that it was just all Mhoks fault and Day did everything right. It just hurt so much seeing Mhok thank Day for breaking up with him. Like sometimes I wonder if the writers just write a totally different show than what I’m watching.

Since recently everything here has been taken over by dipshits who lack media literacy, i will come back here to say - RWBY is a good show. It is good. It has good story and good writing and good characters. Does it have stumbles and limitations? Of course, like everything else ever created. Is it the real reason yall are dedicating your lives to religiously following and picking apart every detail to find something, anything, to hate on and make it your whole personality? Nah.
Yall are just pissy your hc wasn't canon. And i'm only half-joking.
Yall are just stuck in the expectation of "cute girls in school fighting monsters and baddies", which it hasn't been for almost a decade. Let Beacon fucking die already, it was the most boring part of the story anyway. If you like it so much, watch.. idk, high guardian spice. Or maybe my hero academia, it has godawful writing too with your favorite Adam-like and Ironwood-like archetypes you adore so much.
And if you didn't click off already in hissy rage, and want to challenge me on the writing point:
Yall are complaining about pacing, characterization lacking, skipped development, insert some other reason, how "show went to shit after volume 3". Well, newsflash, look back at volume 1. REALLY look at it, without your nostalgia boner.
How, in what actually can fit into 3.5 full-length episodes, it skips a whole semester with only a few moments shown in like 3-8 minutes. Notice how Ruby and Pyrrha interacted like 2 times in 3 volumes total. Ruby and Penny? Yeah, they barely interacted too. Ren hasn't talked to rwby girls at all aside from ensemble scenes.
Too many characters in later volumes? Honey, 1-3 had SO many pointless grunts and you ate them up. The whole Vytal festival was filled with them.
Can you tell me the plot of volume 2 from the top of your head? Yeah, me neither. If i think maybe i can remember there was a mecha fight, a dance and a train, but beyond that what was the point of that entire volume again?
Your favorite, pedestalled, volume 3, most of which is fighty-fighty filler and the only stuff you actually remember when jizzing your pants about it is last 3 episodes.
Most character interactions and development happened after Beacon arc. Most actual plot and bigger story happened after it too. Yall are stuck circlejerking to *filler*, setup, which only purpose was to show the status quo to later destroy it and start to show the real picture.
Do you know why v4 and 5 feel so empty and missing something? Sure, juggling multiple plots gave it's pacing issues too, but it felt empty because there were no side characters to fill out the world and make it feel alive. V5 cast was so tiny it felt like nobody interacted at all. Because there were none of those "extras" yall hate on so much. The extras make the world feel real. Which is why Atlas feels alive when Mistral wasn't.
The most complaints about later volumes are chucked down to lack of media literacy and nuanced reading of situations and characters. Translated for your easier understanding: the writing was too nuanced for your "cute girls go fighty fighty brrr" brain to comprehend. Sometimes things require you to put the situation into character perspectives. Sometimes their decisions are made under stress + personality + influence of events and interactions. But i guess yall don't want to think, yall just want to watch "girl go brrr killy killy monster"
I can continue writing down all these other points, but i'm hungry and should get up so i won't. Bottom text: RWBY is a good show with good story and good writing and good characters. It has struggles and fumbles like every other piece of media. But for some reason, because it's indie, it's held to a much higher standard and everyone feels entitled to pick apart every detail of it to make themselves feel justified for feeling sad over their dead headcanons, even though they'd never do the same picking for big production popular series with much *much* worse writing than even the worst of RWBY's fumbles.
If you made it this far and are a member of rwde, congratulations, you still have a reasonable bone or few. Most others i guess clicked off at first point and blocked me after sending me some kinda death threat, idk, i haven't posted this yet after all.
So yeah, feel free to leave your takes and death threats below, i'll happily discuss further later

RL characters and their thoughts on the show “Glee”
requested by @oneginn (why did i do this for you)
Cassandra
at first watched it to make fun of it. she wanted to break the rumors that theatre kids loved this show and she thought it was sooo stupid at first
but then she immediately got hooked at first ep from the absurdity of it all and unironically became invested
she’s either super embarrassed to admit that she prefers the glee cover of some songs over the original or she just casually blasts them without a care. depends on the song probably
hated rachel at first (without realizing shes lowkey her) but then began shipping faberry
oh god faberry took over her life. she SPIRALED over this stupid queerbait ship. started reading every fanfic possible of them and shit
would not shut up about how much she hates this show to elena. elena is tired and at this point knows the plot of every episode because of her
fucking hates ryan murphy
biggest klaine hater. not bc she thinks its a bad ship, shes just pissed that the fandom and the writers focuses on those twinks
watched every season but prefers the first three seasons. she kinda lost hope for this show mid season 5 or something
rachel’s “don’t rain on my parade” performance changed her life, same goes with that bohemian rhapsody scene
don’t ask her about anything in this show otherwise she’d go in an hour long rant and even pull out a (horribly made) presentation
finn hudson hater
Bela
walked in on cass, dani and angie watching the cheesus christ episode and decided to never even consider watching the show herself. she actively avoids it (good for her)
tho she can’t avoid it, they probably made her sit down and watch at least one ep with them
Dani
hasn’t seen the whole show but seen a few episodes with angie and cass. and has seen so many out of context clips
thinks it’s hilarious and would watch just to have a good time (also she thinks its funny seeing cass genuinely lose her shit every ep)
i’m sorry but i think she’d skip the songs
Angie
hasn’t seen all the eps and only watched because she thinks its peak comedy
says the worst takes on purpose because she knows cass would be pissed
quotes the show all the time but rarely anyone gets it (its for the best)
makes a “cant read” joke every time rachel berry pops up on screen
has glee songs on her playlist but most are ironic like trouty mouth and run joey run
Miranda
are you kidding me. shes literally sue sylvester
but she will never be watching this show
honestly one clip of it could kill her. shes not even surviving that muppet episode

Going back to our roots here what’s your brutally honest opinion about lucaya and joshaya if you’re up for some throwbacks
this message physically aged me 45 years 😭
lucaya- like, it was obviously planned from the beginning, but here's the thing: their dynamic was tired as hell. you see it in every piece of media ever. they were BORING. also I just genuinely almost never liked lucas lmfao. there were a handful of lines throughout 3 seasons that got a laugh out of me- and it was always when he was playing the idiot or confused part, if they had just let him be the wannabe eric of the show it could have been amazing. as for maya, I definitely wasn't as attached to her as I was riley, she just kinda got on my nerves a bit, but Dear God Did She Deserve Better. the triangle was drawn out WAY too long. by the end of it both girls should have left lucas in the dust. we see the 'official' triangle plotline start on new years eve, and end in late september/early october. in no world should it have taken him that long, ESPECIALLY when he knew what a strain it was putting on the girls relationship. if he really cared he would have stepped back, like, literally, it is very very possible to have feelings for someone and not date them, oh my God. farkle had the girls fighting over him ONE time and was like 'hey no I love you guys too much to see you upset'. lucas friar you will always be hated<3
joshaya- I need to get this out of the way because I saw it so much: maya was not trying to date josh when she snuck into the college party. the college girls were not telling josh to date maya. one of josh's friends hits on maya and riley and maya said We Are In Eighth Grade. she's not delusional. the whole episode was how she wanted josh to stop ignoring her. there's subtext ladies!!! cory and topanga were practically raising maya since she was 5. even if it's not addressed too well on screen, you have to be aware that maya and josh have known each other practically their whole lives. considering how close josh is with cory, riley, and auggie, that tells us he saw the family on a regular basis growing up (he literally left his parents and took a train at like 4 in the morning just so cory could open his college letter with him). so josh and maya were likely good friends as children! what we see with his introduction to the show is he starts treating her more as a kid, as his niece's friend, and thinks her feelings are silly and she says No. I need you to take me seriously here. I don't want our friendship to change just because you're in college now. my feelings are not stupid and I want you to respect me. (also. side note. they never said josh's age in the show right?? because for him to start college when he did would make him older than he should have been based on the boy meets world timeline...like, I was kinda working under the assumption he skipped a grade or two in high school but everyone else was like Known Grown Man And Pedophile Josh Matthews Asked A Toddler To Go To The Movies As Friends lmfao). anyway. she asks him to respect her and he does!!! genuine shock and awe! lucas friar found dead in a ditch! lmao. their vague 'let's see how we feel in a few years' talk reminded me a lot of the cory/topanga yearbook quote scene, and they had great chemistry! it didn't feel like something I've seen a thousand times before. it's not like they promised to swear off dating and wait for her 18th birthday, she was basically dating zay by the end of the show. they just said 'we've known each other for a while, there's definitely something between us but this isn't the right time for us to explore it, so let's be friends like we used to' (see: what lucas should have done during the triangle). josh had a tiny bit of an edge to him, but with the dorky matthews heart, which tbh was exactly what maya wanted. I loved how maya acted around josh, it lead to some of her funniest and most open moments in the show. I loved how gentle josh was with her even when she was being annoying. I love a good childhood crush to actual lovers story! sue me! lmao I think if the show had gotten as many seasons as boy meets world they really could have been something special

KitKat reads the TKEM Novel: Chapter 2
That night, a broken flute
So. Chapter 2. If you haven’t guessed already by the title of this chapter, it covers the topic of that fateful night back in 1994, when Lee Lim kills Lee Ho, little Gon comes in, gets traumatised, they both leave with half of the Manpasikjeok, etc etc. That’s kind of… the first half of this chapter? The whole chapter is definitely affected by this, but after this there are two more scenes in this chapter: one where Gon is looking at Taeeul’s ID card in his Alice in Wonderland book (notably skipping over “Are you having fun, Captain Jo?” and that subsequent conversation between Gon and Yeong which is one of my personal favourite scenes, but anyway. They do reference it, but it’s not the same), and then the scene where Gon is at the stables, he hears the sound of the flute, and he runs away on Maximus and goes into the portal.
My first thought? Not enough Yeong. Again. For real this time. Yeong has one line of dialogue, and that’s just a radio call to Hopil and the others to chase after Gon, there’s no new insights about Yeong in this chapter, absolutely nothing. And I know, I know that I can’t really judge a chapter like this on its Yeong content when none of these scenes contained Yeong in the first place, but like… they could have included that conversation between Gon and Yeong in Gon’s study? Instead, the allusion to it we get is this:
Why didn’t ‘he’ who saved him come back? Wasn’t it worth coming to see him at least once?
Yeong said that he didn’t come because Gon had grown up so well that he didn’t need anyone’s help, but Gon wanted to ask, ‘didn’t he want to come and see how well he had grown up?’
There it is, folks! That’s all we’re getting! And look… it’s easy enough to tell from the scene in the show that Gon isn’t really satisfied with Yeong’s answer, but a part of me does feel disappointed that this heartfelt conversation between those two in the first episode was boiled down to this in the book. None of the tenderness, none of the warmth, just “idc yeongie i still want to see my saviour :/.” And then… hoo boy. I can already tell that this book is going to test my patience as someone who is not particularly a taegon enjoyer, because a few paragraphs down we get this absolute gem.
The government ID in his hand was the only trace he had left behind, and it was a question. Every day, Gon would ask the woman on the card, ‘Do you know why he saved me? Why I survived?’ Thanks to this, the woman had become a habit for him. After twenty-five years, she was more familiar than anyone else. For Gon, it was comforting. Before he knew it, she had become the reason he was alive.
I’m sorry. I’m sorry, whAT?! The reason he was alive? His reason for living?? More familiar than anyone else????? Bestie… she is a piece of plastic!!! As far as you know right now!!!!! If this is your reason for living… Gon, blink twice if you need to see a therapist. Oh, wait, hang on, this reminds me of another passage in this chapter…
Was he really dead? Suddenly, he felt a surge of doubt.
Maybe it was because that night, twenty-five years ago, was still so vivid. The stickiness of stepping through the blood of innocents, the smell of blood that stung his nostrils. The pain of the strangulation, the thinning of his breath. The sight of his father’s lifeless body in front of him. The underlying dread, the fear. The emotions were as sharp as the sensations.
However, now that Gon was the king, they were emotions he couldn’t show anyone. Walking slowly to his desk, Gon composed himself as he sat down. The good news was that he wasn’t weak enough to be consumed by the memories of that day.
Oh, well, that’s ok then! Don’t worry everyone! Gon is fine, actually! Sure, he still has very vivid memories of that awful night, he still hates people touching his body, he can’t wear a tie without getting flashbacks to that night, he doesn’t feel like he can share this with anyone because of his status as the king, but don’t worry! He’s not so weak that he’s super affected by this or anything, that would be totally cringe.
Gon, I’m going to say this once again, blink twice if you need to see a therapist. Because this… my god. That’s an unhealthy thought pattern if I’ve ever heard one. I think the show wants the solution to this to be “gon is fine enough to be a great boyfriend, but if he ever does need to talk to anyone, this will only ever be taeeul because he the king to her.” What I’m hearing, however, is “gon needs to trust his loved ones, and learn to be comfortable with the fact that he’s both the king and a person, and he needs to be comfortable with communicating with people like yeong and lady noh and prince buyeong who have loved him for a very long time and want gon the person to be alright.” Like… surely the message here isn’t just that Gon can never ever trust anyone from the Kingdom with his emotions, right? Where’s the growth there? Finding someone from another universe is the most convoluted loophole in this situation, when he could just like… talk to his best friend? Even if that’s hard for him, growth is hard! But it’s important!
But *ahem* anyway, sorry, this is meant to be about the novel, not my wider thoughts about the show in general…
You might be wondering, hey KitKat, you said that this chapter was half about the night of the treason, so why haven’t you spoken about that? And that… is because I don’t really have that much to say? It’s mostly just an action sequence, there aren’t really any character moments that made me like !!!!, like the other parts did. The main detail is that it really hammers in the detail that Lee Lim feels unfairly treated because of the nature of his birth. He’s jealous of his brother and his nephew for being born into a life where they never really had to struggle.
Actually, you know what? I am going to share this paragraph, purely so I can go on another side tangent.
Prince Imperial Geum. Lee Lim was crowned Prince Imperial Geum at the age of thirteen. He was the firstborn son, but his mother died before she could become queen, and she was posthumously declared a noblewoman. So, his younger brother, who knew nothing and was only good, became the king.
Now, let’s do some maths, shall we? Both Lee Lim and Lee Ho have confirmed dates of birth in the show. Lee Lim was born on 27th February 1951, and Lee Ho was born on 23rd October 1952. (Another fun fact is that Gon’s mother was born on 8th August 1965, so when Gon was born on 28th October 1987, his mother was 22 and his dad was 35, and I know that age gap relationships can be perfectly consensual and loving but man… I can’t deny that something there feels a little bit icky… but anyway.) Assuming neither Lee Ho nor Lee Lim were born prematurely, this implies that Lee Lim was conceived in May 1950, and Lee Ho was conceived in January 1952. If their father, King Haejong, was doing everything by the book, if Lee Lim’s mother was his official partner, and the earliest that she died was 27th February 1951, this means that King Haejong moved on from this love of his life to get to the baby-making stage with Lee Ho’s mother in less than a year. It’s… plausible? But if Lee Ho was legitimate, then King Haejong and his new partner had to be married somewhere between February 1951 and October 1952, and it would have had to have been a big royal wedding with a lot of planning, and… mmmMH I don’t want to make any conclusions, because there are a few explanations for this quick timeline and it’s much more fun if this is left up to individual interpretation, but what I am pretty sure on is that this situation with King Haejong and his lovers wasn’t as simple as “:( lee lim’s poor mother died before she could be made the queen.” It’s giving… less tragic, more scandal, somewhere on this timeline. Either way, I am narrowing my eyes at you, King Haejong.
Mmmh… anything else? Maybe this:
In the Cheonjongo scene, Yoo Gyeongmu, Lee Lim’s second in command, says to him that they need to leave because the “Golden Army” is coming. In the official English subs on Netflix, this is just translated as Royal Guard, BUT it’s definitely a different word. Royal Guard, in the book, has always been 근위대, but Yoo Gyeongmu specifically refers to a certain 금군, and this had specific Hanja next to it in the book, so it must be a thing. What is this Golden Army? Will it be referenced again, other than in this scene? It’s not a code name, little Gon also thinks to himself that his saviour is leaving because the Golden Army is on their way. Is it a specific task force within the Royal Guard? If so, what do they do?? I have a horrible suspicion that we’ll never know.
Oh, and one more thing before I bullet point exactly what we’ve learnt from this chapter.
It was said that the prince was a prodigy, a genius who could read, write, and do mathematics at an early age.
*quietly adds ‘hyperlexia’ next to ‘savant mathematical abilities’ onto my imaginary list of evidence of gon being autistic*
That post will come eventually. But not for a while.
So!! What have we learnt in chapter two?
Somewhere on the palace grounds, vaguely near Cheonjongo, is a gingko tree!
Where Lee Lim was described as being bold and cruel, Lee Ho was described as having a “cool temperament that could be considered weak.” Even if Lee Ho isn’t in my good books for getting a 21 year old pregnant when he was 34, that still feels kind of mean.
Cheonjongo was home to “various treasures, from crowns to cash, ceramics to swords, treasures handed down from generation to generation.”
The current Captain of the Royal Guard died that night, stepping in front of Lee Ho.
The Netflix subs miss out Lee Ho saying something that roughly translates to “What the heck?!” before he asks “Brother, what do you think you’re doing?” which is something that I wish they’d kept in.
When Lee Lim killed his brother, he was happy to prove that Lee Ho was weaker than him.
Gon was commended as a little genius, and this is the only measure by which Lee Lim thinks he might be better than his father. That doesn’t change the fact that Lee Lim still has to kill him, though.
Even in that horrible moment, and despite Gon being seven years old internationally, he was actively thinking about strategy, wanting to strike Lee Lim with the Four Tiger Sword while he was laughing, because it was a moment of weakness.
Lee Lim got his royal title when he was thirteen, Korean age, so presumably he was 11/12 years old internationally.
The first time little Gon heard the flute music was when his saviour came for him, not before, which begs the question as to why he went to Cheonjongo that night in the first place. Maybe because his dad wanted to show him the Manpasikjeok?
This “Golden Army” section of the Royal Guard existed, at least in 1994. Maybe it still does in the present. Maybe it doesn’t. That remains to be seen.
The official story was that Royal Guards shot Lee Lim dead on the beach, not that he was found washed up dead like I assumed in the show. Maybe this was just a detail in the show that I forgot about, but I’m including it here because it confused me at first.
Lee Lim’s “death” had always seemed futile and meaningless to Gon.
Apparently, according to Gon, all the fear, grief, and hurt has already faded away from that night with time, and the only thing he still has is the question of why his saviour hasn’t come back for him. Apparently.
Please imagine a strained voice for this next point: Jeong Taeeul’s ID card became Gon’s reason for living. *sigh.*
This is something I’d noticed before, but this whole scene where he looks at the ID card in his book, and everything in the show immediately preceding it that the book cut - this all happens on 10th September 2019. Is there a significance to this date? YES! THERE IS! IT’S YEONG’S BIRTHDAY! THEY CUT OUT YEONG’S SCENE ON HIS GODDAMN BIRTHDAY!!!!!!
The Royal Guard was on high alert after the shooting at the rowing competition, and yet Gon still managed to escape? He’s quite impressive.
The main reason Gon was suspicious that Lee Lim wasn’t dead, despite them having a corpse, was because Lee Lim risked everything to get the Manpasikjeok, but his half wasn’t found on this corpse. This is what Gon is thinking about as he’s looking at the portal for the first time.
As Gon is riding through the place in between, in the portal dimension, he’s thinking of the passage of Alice in Wonderland that he read to the children a few days ago, of Alice following the clock rabbit into the rabbit hole, and then falling further and further down.
And that’s it! I’m… actually surprised at how long this ended up being, because I definitely found the first chapter a lot more entertaining than this one. Though to be honest, that was mostly the shameless Gon worshipping. There was definitely some of that this chapter, but not at all to the same extent. Next time… I haven’t really looked very hard at the next chapter, but I think it’s going to cover Taeeul and Gon’s first meeting, from their very first interaction to Gon’s time in the police station. And now I say that, I’m suddenly realising that I’m quite excited to find out what Gon is thinking when he sees Eunseob for the first time. But not too excited. I don’t think it’s wise to have expectations that are too high with this book.
Final thoughts? Underwhelming. I know this book can’t deviate much from the show, but I was disappointed with how little extra information we learnt about Lee Lim in the Cheonjongo scene. Does he really just want *gestures vaguely* power? Is it really just because he feels it’s unfair that he wasn’t born to be the king? Come on, where’s the flavour? Does he want to be more powerful than God because he just wants power? Does he want to rule Corea? Does he want to rule the world? The multiverse??? What is his endgame here??? He gets the Manpasikjeok, then what??? I was hoping that the book would give us some more insight, but it absolutely has not done that so far. Ah well. I suppose it’s only Chapter 2. There’s still time.
Other than that, my main takeaway is that Lee Gon is taking a long, long swim in a certain river in Egypt in regards to how he’s Totally Fine And Ok after the night of the treason. Did he ever get therapy after that night? If so, his therapist didn’t do a very good job if he still thinks that he can’t tell his loved ones about his “weak” feelings because he’s the king. If he didn’t get therapy, then I want to have serious words with whoever looked at this child who just saw his father murdered and almost got murdered himself, and decided “yeah, he’ll probably be ok.”
But of course, he’s fine! It’s below the king to have these so-called “mental health struggles.”

Loonatics Unleashed is honestly nowhere near as bad as people make it out to be. I'm a big critic when it comes to writing but I mostly had no issues with it. The characters, at times, can be bland but they're not atrocious or annoying. The re used jokes can get old fast but it isn't a crime against humanity calling back to something. And sometimes loose ends are left untied (ex: Pink the Pug and Danger Duck) but it makes sense considering the show had a horrendous first impression which resulted in the hate sinking it. A lot of the problems the show has are a result of it being canned too early. It's clear from the second season that LU listened to its critics so I believe, if given the chance, a third season would have showed great improvement in all of the above.
So now that I've got my nitpicks- that are just that, nitpicks!- out of the way. One of my favorite aspects of LU is the animation. Which is, ironically, one of the more criticized aspects. Is it perfect? No. Does it have its wonky moments? Yeah. But does it do the job of portraying what needs to be portrayed? And does it treat us with cute little details sometimes? Absolutely! I might have skipped the season 2 intro every chance I got but it wasn't for the animation. The new clips they had were charming! The LU style in particular is reminiscent of anime, a common trend in shows at the time, but it's also got some twang to it that helps the characters really pop.
My favorite animation in particular is the final fight scene in the series. Intense, fast, with incredible choreography. And the shot moments later of Ace, sharp ears shriveled, weakly holding himself up with a smile as his teammates rush to him. It's full of so much character! You can feel the emotions in the scene!!
The backgrounds, too, are very gorgeous! The lush, subtropical forestry of the Apocalypso come to mind. That entire episode is an ethereal palette! It's also a great detail how well Lexi's pink and green blend so well with her environment- making her appear as if she belongs there, which can work as foreshadowing for her strong connection with the plant life.
And of course the cheesy dialogue with sometimes nonsensical reference but ultimately silly intentions. It's fun, it's snappy, and it's maybe a bit dated- but who said there was anything wrong with being a product of it's time? Maybe what everyone says isn't the most memorable but Rev's rambling, Tech's techno babble, and Ace's play on words are a distinct aspect of their characters. And distinction is very important with your cast- especially your main characters!
Lexi is Lola's descendant but not once in the show is she sexualized. She's a respected member of the team who is viewed highly by Zadavia and the other Loonatics- so much so that she took over for Ace as leader one time! She's the action girl who is kind and fierce and incredibly dedicated to her passions. And, it's a small detail but after watching lots of shows with the sole girl ending up with the main guy, it's refreshing that her relationships remain wholly platonic! She and Ace are more like best friends than future (romantic) partners. Small, I know, but for an aro like me who is sick to death of that trope it's such a cool thing!
LU is far from a perfect show. Everyone and their grandma seems to have slready swung a bat at it. But there's a lot to praise the show for! Moral of the story- WATCH THE SHOW!!!

Yes we all know that Dennis is a terrible, terrible monster of a man, but I think his softness with Charlie is something we (re: I) NEED to talk about. I mean it’s obvious that Dennis genuinely cares about him, as much as his emotional immaturity allows him. It’s probably why charden will always be the most realistic ship in that show— in my mind, at least.
First thing that comes to mind is in The Gang Gets Extreme Home Makeover or whatever it’s called. When Charlie starts freaking out and gets all heated about Sears, it’s Dennis know calms him down immediately, and seems to know exactly how to do it. And Charlie caves so easily. And the little hug— it wasn’t just a quick thing. I mean, Dennis was holding on tight AND and Charlie immediately got all comfortable. The man licherally nuzzled up against his arm what more do I gotta say?? And again when they’re shopping for supplies it’s just *finger snap here* like clockwork. Charlie gets upset and Dennis cools him off like it’s nothing.
In The Gang Hits The Road when they’re both chilling in the back of that camper van/trailer/uhaul bullshit. I mean, Charlie’s never left Philadelphia and the one person he voices his concerns about it to in Dennis. And sure, he was a bit freaked out about it around every one else and he mentioned being uncomfortable with the whole idea, but it was Dennis that he actually opened up to. And Dennis didn’t make fun of him, or say any snide comments, he sat and heard Charlie out and genuinely offered advice and reassurance. And I feel like I need to reiterate: it was not mocking at all!! Dennis was genuinely ready to back Charlie up and he was confident with what he was saying.
And this one can swing either way with manipulation or actual bonding (leaning more toward manipulation but shhhh) but in Waiting For Big Mo. That entire section of their little chat about bouncy balls. Dennis was nice. And he didn’t really argue, when he did it wasn’t with anger or annoyance, it was calm and his voice was soft and I have a lot of feeling about them in this episode. He knows how Charlie likes to play with his little army action figures which means he’s probably watched him do it many times. And sure in this episode Dennis is a dick to him, but it’s later seasons Dennis and I….. well I have thoughts about the later seasons.
And then you have him jumping to reassure Charlie that he is in fact fun to drink with in The Gang Gives Frank an Intervention. I’ll be brief with this one since it was so short but Dennis didn’t waste a second. Immediately let’s Charlie know he likes hanging out with him and he is fun, and sure it’s not that good of a situation and sure, he probably likes it mostly because Charlie probably gets himself hurt a lot and it’s funny to him, BUT it doesn’t matter because he JUMPS. And it’s not about that in the moment, it’s not about Charlie being stupid and reckless it’s just about Dennis needing Charlie to know he enjoys his company.
And again I’ll be brief because I don’t like this episode as a whole— Sweet Dee’s Dating an R- Person (😐) it’s Dennis who goes to check on Charlie. And when he finds him sitting alone in the dark he opens the blinds and tries to cheer himself up. And he sits and writes a song with Charlie— though we’ve seen Dennis (and the rest of the gang) continually be annoyed/disinterested/straight up hating Charlie and his singing/song writing. Dennis still sat and helped. And maybe that was because he wanted the credit, but whatever. He sings with him and wrote music and did that ridiculous little dance and it was a sweet scene. And like I said I really do not like this episode all that much besides the Charlie and Dennis scenes but this little snippet alone is enough to change how I view it. It’s still a shitty episode with a shitty premise but this little scene was so sweet I eat it up every single time. Id probably skip this one all together when I rewatch the show if it wasn’t for this scene and this scene alone.
And these are just what I can think of off the top of my head. Yeah. I have a lot of thoughts about charden. And I KNOW it will never ever be canon but I actually can’t lose because I’ll never let reality destroy me.

well, nobody dumps trauma on the younger counterparts of main leads like this writer. In retrospective, I should've known who was the evil mastermind behind it lol
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I am conflicted about their specific trauma, but I am enamored with the characters and want to protect them so badly. I find their story so tragic and I'm so sad that the happy ending will belong to the older protagonists and not the young ones, because damn, they didn't have enough laughter and love around them. When will these young actors not deal with such heavy storylines?? So unfair.
Drama portrays so well the fact that trauma works in such different ways for people and how we show it. The first thing we notice about this guy is that he's quiet, reserved, stoic and very dedicated at school. The first thing we know about him is that nothing comes for free, as he uses every opportunity to get money and just before we think he loves money and dreams of getting out this town and this provincial life blah blah, we find out the truth and that all the money is for him to get away from his abusive ass of a father who beats him everyday. Ugh. My jaw dropped to the floor, I swear. I was shocked. I HATE HATE HATE this so much. You have to be an insect of the lowest kind, utterly disgusting, if you hit your children. People like that shouldn't be allowed to procreate.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
But then, right after this, literally the next scene, we find out her father also beats her and I swear to God I was screaming and pulling my hair because whyyyy ???poor children. They do not deserve this. Their house is the place where they should feel the safest, not the place where they walk on eggshells and are afraid of even making a noise. Their parents should be the people who make them feel the safest, not the ones who make their nightmares come true. This right here is something I hate seeing represented in media, so watching it was pretty difficult for me. In fact, I'd advise people who are triggered by this to skip scenes or the entire episode, because the domestic abuse scenes were pretty realistic. And so loud.
But trauma for our young female lead it's different. She tries to escape from it and leave it at her house, and so she is bright, happy and over-the-top silly teen at school. She tries to enjoy, even if it's a facade. Because this is her way to cope. And her music.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I loved how he tried to reassure her and calm her down. Even if they haven't been friends for so long, he already knows her and understands her in a way no one else does. He's such a kind and selfless soul, despite everything and no matter if he's the second or main lead (more on that later), I'm rooting for him to live happily.
I really wanted for them to get away together, and live in Seoul, being adopted by her idol and brand new CEO. I wanted them to grow up together and happy, but I knew exactly where this was going, not only because of the premise and the writer, but also because this is dramaland. So when he told her they had to run away, I knew they wouldn't make it.
We are presented with a dilemma of who is the endgame here, but right now I don't care that much. I only want for this girl to live her life and finally achieve her dream of meeting her idol and be a singer. Still, we must acknowledge the elephant in the room and I've seen second male lead has glasses, so that's either the drama telling us the answer OR trying to confuse us. I find that I'm okay if he is the young kid who bravely stood up to her violent father just so he could give her time to escape.
But my money is on my human golden retriever. Aww, it's such a sight for sore eyes to see Chae JongHyeop in a main role again after almost a year and a half. He was amazing in Love All Play.
So yes, this is the writer of Start Up (does anyone else get PTSD from how toxic the fandom was back then? No? just me?) so we know she's gonna make it a point to drag this love triangle for a while. But this is also the writer of Pinocchio, While you were Sleeping and I hear Your Voice (my personal favorite), so *fingers crossed*
