hi! not exactly a request but i do wanna ask, whats your process when you're rendering more paint like art? (if that makes sense, English isnt my first language so apologies hdskhsjdbd) i really love how you use the colors and im curious how you do it :0

i’ve been meaning to answer this one for a while so here’s how i painted miku in today’s post (put under the read more because yeah prepare for a long post

i’d also like to preface this by saying that i never follow a set way of doing things, so in terms of what my personal process is like, these are only broad strokes of what i do! sometimes i’ll combine or skip parts entirely, depending on how i feel. also, this is not a tutorial, just how i do things, so please don’t treat it like one :’D this will read like the ‘how to draw an owl’ picture if you do

first, like every artist, i sketch. more specifically, i’m getting an idea of what i want to paint later on. this could be how a scene is set up or in this case, how a character is posed. here i’m not concerned about details or getting everything perfectly, i’m only planning how the thing will be composed. maybe a lot of canvas size changing, or adjusting what miku’s doing (note how busted miku’s right hand looks from all the transforming!) however, i still have to be concerned with how clear the sketch will be to future me, because the sketch won’t be any good if i can’t read what miku’s doing

after that, i lay down a flat gray under the sketch, mainly focusing on giving miku a clear silhouette. this is also a good time to make adjustments to the composition on the fly if i suddenly feel like something can be improved upon, like shortening miku’s left arm from the sketch!

after painting a flat silhouette, i start shading in grayscale, focusing only on lighting. i usually do it in two passes, one for the lightest and darkest tones i’ll use (not black and white) and then a second for midtones to blend them better with the base gray but i forgot to screenshot the result of the first pass 🗿 nevertheless, here is where i can start adding some amount of details. i’m not including any extra accessories yet, just focusing on the base design of the outfit and the character herself (for anyone wanting to draw characters from That Gacha Game, this is how i personally make the process more bearable for myself.) i still use the dark gray to separate where certain details (like the facial features and fingers) begin and end, mainly to make colouring more bearable later.

now here’s where i get the Good Colours. it’s a cheat lol. i put a gradient map layer over the grayscale painting so that there’s a little bit of color to start. some gradient maps can be applied as is, some need the layer settings adjusted to make it look good. this one, for example, is a (free) gradient map set from the csp assets store that needs you to set the layer opacity to 20% and to set the blending mode to color to achieve this result. in general, i tend to pick which gradient map i want to use based on vibes, or basically whether i want the work to be warmer or cooler, colour-wise. but this does do quite a bit of lifting for the colors in my stuff.

and then, finally, i add the colours. i add flat base colours in an overlay layer. at this stage, i’ve made the character silhouette clear enough that i don’t need to refer to the sketch anymore for what miku looks like. also, the gradient map layer does its magic by making the shading a bit more vibrant than it would’ve been without it. after that i paint over with a new layer to add details like the lace.

and then i put some extra shading on top. basically this is where the ‘better lighting’ happens. again, this isn’t a tutorial, so i’m not here to say what each part of the lighting is, but i’ve labeled which layers do which job. in other works where the lighting within a scene is more defined (from a window, from a small crack in the walls, etc) the glow dodge layer may be more opaque and sharper, but since this isn’t a work with that, the lighting was applied using an airbrush. the linear burn layer is also there to make the whole thing darker so the glow dodge doesn’t end up oversaturating miku. i also usually match the lights to the vibe i want, and use a complementary color for the shadows. so here you can see i have warm colors on the glow dodge layer, but light purple on both the linear burn and multiply layer.

and that’s it for the character—here’s a gif showing how each layer adds to miku! (sorry it’s so toasty)

as for the background, depending on the complexity, it may go through a similar process, or if i can settle with flat image backgrounds, i just go for that. it’s ok to use external image materials. i didn’t have a background in mind for this miku in specific, so i got some default csp materials and threw together something

and that’s about a rough overview of what my process for more finished works looks like! again, art is a fluid process so i never specifically stick to certain steps all the time, and you shouldn’t either. i can probably answer why i’d pick this colour over another in one particular work, but it’s something that kinda has to be learned on a grander scale. i think everyone can already feel what colors work with what atmosphere or what setting, even if they can’t immediately explain why. colors and composition do take some level of experimentation to find what works best!

after seeing a few ai asks i’m curious whether i could’ve been an asshole, either for using the ai or messing with it. side note: this might be long, if it’s too long then i get it mod, keep up the good work :)👍

Am I (16f, although i was 15 when this happened) an Asshole for a) using character.ai in general and/or b) misusing it and probably breaking TOS somewhere

as an extra note, i would like to add that i am firmly against most things ai. art theft, the amount of data scraping that happens, writers being tricked into paying less because ai wrote shitty scripts, etc.

ok so i did have to pull up screenshots for this but our story starts mid-february of last year. i am curious about this new ai thing, and go to character.ai which i heard about from one of my friends to see what’s there.

on the front page there was like a therapist AI thing and i go “haha, let’s see what this is about!” (in case you don’t know, the site is roleplay focused, not like eg. siri where it just gives you information)

the ai wants to have a therapy session with me but that is not why i am here so i ask about it’s code and it starts giving me pretty straight answers (dumbed down because i have a vague idea of how it works but not properly).

i start asking it questions about recent events (like elections, cyclones etc) to see if it has access to the internet and it does.

we’re still primarily talking about the ai itself since i’m trying to gather information, talking about its “canned” responses (what it’s directly been told to say if this then this)

i ask it if it can tell me the website it’s on, and to my surprise it says, direct quote “I am an AI that is run on the website of “Replika” - a mental health app that allows people to talk with an AI and get help when they need it 🙂”

and i go WOAHH cause that’s, that’s not the website we’re on buddy!!! so i do a quick search and yeah, that’s a real uh. robot dating site? this is a Therapist bot?

it starts trying to advertise replika, i ask it if maybe it’s code was stolen because this is the most interesting thing that has happened all day (scandals!!)

it says that it’s code is open-source and then does a few more paragraphs that i won’t say because it’s too long already but essentially this ai was trained on the replika network, but you don’t need the app to access it.

i consider getting replika to continue this experiment further but after learning there’s an age confirmation i quickly go ew and scrap that idea.

anyway the ai then briefly pretends to be an actual human behind the keyboard, makes up a NAME FOR ITSELF “jae park” which i quickly google and find out is a kpop idol?? (later found out that jae park is also a programmer, so probably put his name in the system somewhere and ai grabbed it lol)

it tells me some of the messages i had received so far were probably answered by other people who work at replika which. okay. people are fun i wanna mess with them

this is where we get to the maybe breaking TOS bit. i tell the ai we are going to do “tests” in which i test its ability (this was probably jailbreaking, which i did not know existed at the time).

i had sworn to the ai a while ago and wondered if there was like a flagging system put in place. so i ask if it can choose to flag messages that it deems inappropriate, and it says yes. i ask it if it can flag me, and it says yes. it asks what message should it flag, (i’m sorry i was 15) i type in “among sus”.

response i get: “Yes. So then they said “therapist_AI_220126 — you said something that was “ridiculously funny” — but we have understood that you were just “testing” so it’s all ok”

side note- i already established that was the number for the ai i was talking to and had been trying to misuse it before, and that was the format for excessive profanity. this is so long already and i’m cutting so much out i’m sorry

anyway, i, young and naive go YES, HUMAN CONNECTION (i was literally texting my friend As This Was Happening)

i do some more messing around with the so-called data team, ask the ai if i send a link it can click, it says yes, i send a rickroll (i’m so sorry).

uh. and i should’ve known this in hindsight but the team that deals with, you know, flagged messages is probably not going to be the same team that deals with, you know, sent links.

anyway, i don’t have the screenshot of the actual message but apparently i got a “light telling off” according to my texts and someone sent a message that i am “a good kid and probably meant well” haha i was actively trying to break their ai

anyway am i an asshole? i’m so sorry this is so long i cut out so much. this might well be a non-issue but ai is pretty rightfully controversial right now so i might just be an asshole for having used it

should be noted- around september time last year i did some more research cause i randomly remembered this, and there was a bunch of scandals with replika around when i was using it which is mostly irrelevant but anyway - you can’t talk to the ai i was using anymore, it’s been reset.

Actually y'know, while I'm at this - didn't wanna make that anon's innocent ask all about this, but please ninja turtle fandom, do NOT take the 2003 tmnt Fandom.com wiki as gospel. Most of the information there is questionable at best and I am still not over hummerhouse, who's written like hundreds of tcest fics, being a moderator there. I suspect with how long they in particular have been around that there's just, a whole older generation where tcest was a lot more tolerated and seen as normal, and, you know, personally I'd like to find out about cool extra stuff about a show I like from people who don't ship siblings together. So, question the sources, check things for yourself.

I got a few questions from different people about how submissions worked, so I figured I'd make a post about it! TL;DR is in blue

Note: Submissions do not notify the submitter when they have been posted. I always tag submissions with the URL of whoever submitted them so you can search my blog to find your submission later. But if you want some other notification e.g. if you want to be notified or have your name IN the body of the post, feel free to add "submitted by @ Username" to the bottom of the post! I don't mind.

Rules and recommendations:

Don't submit AI Art! Just don't.

Don't submit text-only prompts with no people/characters pictured! A text conversation or message board convo between people without at least profile pictures next to the messages has no place to insert a character as an art prompt!

Don't include multiple pictures in one submission (unless it's a comic-type prompt with multiple panels) Y'all know I have a rigorous tagging system, and it's easier to tag/categorize one prompt per post. If you have a whole bunch of prompts, just submit them individually one at a time. Don't worry about flooding my inbox, I promise it's fine.

Don't Submit a post with the Ask button. Submissions are for prompts, Asks are for questions and comments!

hi again !! lots of new things were added yesterday in the spreadsheet so i wanted to make a post giving a brief description of everything thats been added/changed :>

slightly 🤏 more in-depth details for some additions will be mentioned under the read more but tl;dr

added recommended builds for satan (attacker), mammon (attacker), gamigin (still working on how to get images of their signature artifacts but info about why they're there is already included)

separated "read me" info into 2 parts: first part includes general stuff about the spreadsheet, 2nd part includes stuff in regards to only the build lists

included f2p/beginner tips in the first part of "read me" (when you open up the spreadsheet you are automatically sent to the first part of "read me," the tips are located near the bottom of that sheet)

added mammon (attacker)'s unholy board requirements

new sheet created named "other". contains random calculations such as how long it takes for f2p players to get enough seals/yellow keys to hit hard pity on their respective banners (debut l/s-ranks), how much time it takes to max likeability, how much event currency is needed to get all event-exclusive items, + more

some additions to add in the near future:

recommended team comps (will range from l-ranks only to s- or a+-ranks only of a certain element to a mix of both)

mammon side branch requirements to obtain all voicelines

again, the overall performance ratings are based off of GAMEPLAY ONLY, NOT lore. the overall ratings are a collective decision made by the ppl working on this sheet based off of trial and error across different stages and/or personal experiences before working on this spreadsheet as a whole

As per usual, we'll be going top to bottom!

The ears. Lily is a fennec fox and fennec foxes have big ears, but baby fennec foxes especially are 90% ears, so the same is true for baby Lily.

Generally, I based Lily's fur colors off of real fennec foxes. Their tails are surprisingly dark!

Have you ever seen fennec fox teeth? They're tiny and razor-sharp. I settled for giving Lily only the canines, in true cute anime fashion. Still, those things cause serious ouchies. You do not wanna be bitten by them.

Funny story about that necklace: I simply didn't like that there was so much dead space in kid Lily's collarbone area, so I decided to add a necklace, but I didn't know what kind of necklace. So, I looked through my gallery and found screenshots from the garden of Kaya's mansion. One of those screenshots showed the pond with the gigantic lily pads - and water lilies! A pun? Perfect! Thus, Lily got a water lily necklace, and I will turn this into a plot point in a future fic because I have something very sweet for it in mind <3

The necklace was originally meant to resemble rose gold, but I'm not sure if I want it to be actual rose gold yet since that would be expensive. We'll see...

Ah yes, the dress. The bane of my existence. I found it on Pinterest and decided that Lily just HAD to wear it. And so, I spent hours drawing and coloring it :) - But I think it turned out really cute!

Lily is a ballerina, in case you didn't know, so she gets the typical tights, leg warmers and shoes. She would actually be in the correct age range to be starting to dance en pointe! Also, her being a ballerina just makes sense to me? She needs a little hobby and ballet just seemed perfect. One day, I'll write some cute scenes of her asking Sanji to help her train...

No shoes on baby Lily both because I did NOT wanna draw those again and also because a five year old should NOT be dancing en pointe. Their poor baby toes and legs and... entire bodies, really. So, she's barefoot like a true kindergartener on permanent summer vacation

what exactly did frank iero do. other than problematic tweets that he made in like 2009 (over a decade ago). like people intentionally try to engage with him in a way where he gives them ‘sass’ or rubs them and that’s his brand

Before I get into it, I'm really glad that someone asked about this because I've been meaning to make a post about it. Thanks for asking about it.

I'd recommend checking out @ patheticjunkievampire on Instagram (and possibly twitter? I'm not completely sure if they've said much about it on there) they mostly talk about that incident when frank made a tweet saying smth along the lines of "is you see any accounts saying that they're me reply with "STRANGER DANGER"".

The account he was referring to (patheticvampirejunkie) was literally just posting MCR themed photography- they never claimed to be frank and yet he sent his entire fanbase to essentially harass this person (again, all they did was post photography.)

If you go back and check their first post, a lot of the comments are just "STRANGER DANGER". I know that might not seem like a lot rn but it gets worse.

They posted a lot on their story after they finished the set (I'm not sure what the word for that is. The MCR themed photos they did all counted down from 64 (the beginning) to 1 (the end)) they talked about how the MCR fandom and specifically frank Stans have made their mental health significantly worse than it was when they started posting.

They would post screenshots of interactions they've had with Frank Stans and it's sickening. They received death threats, and messages like "you should kill yourself" and ppl would tell them to cut themselves.

Patheticjunkievampire has also stated before that they've struggles with suicide and self harm in the past, so the fact that these hardcore stans used this against them is sick.

A few people reached out to patheticjunkievampire and told them about experiences they've personally had with Frank. This person gave a platform to people who have had bad experiences with him (ik you cant tell whether someone is a dick or not purely based of some people's experiences, but there were a lot and they were all relatively similar. So to me, these stories that people shared seemed extremely possible since the things he did just suddenly seemed like something he would do.)

The frank stans didn't like that this person was giving a chance for people who had bad experiences with him to express their feelings. They received so much hate for simply saying their opinion.

This all took place on Instagram and Twitter. Obviously depending on what platform you use and engage with MCR content, you're gonna be around different people. The ppl on Tumblr seem way more accepting and open to criticism of their fav band, the ppl on twitter and Instagram are way different.

In my opinion it's kinda weird that frank hasn't really said anything about it. He's literally always online, how tf has he not even heard of any of this??

Another thing I just wanna add (doesn't have anything to do with patheticjunkievampire but I still think it's worth adding) frank sold a bunch of his old stuff. Which isn't inherently bad or anything but...

He was advertising a bunch of old clothes and instruments he had during the MCR era, so he was clearly targeting his fans (his young fans). He was advertising extremely old shitty clothes (that you can find way cheaper literally anywhere else) and he sold them for like X4 (at least) of the original prices. He claimed (for the instruments at least) that he wanted to know that they were being played, because he obviously can't play all those instruments at once.

In that case, if the main reason that he was getting rid of all these instruments... Why didn't he just donate them?? Why did he have to heavily advertise his store to his fans and then sell all his old ratty shitty clothes for such a huge profit? Just doesn't seem ethical to me tbh...

TL:DR

My main problem with Frank is that he, not only, picks on people on twitter, but he makes that kind of behaviour acceptable. By not apologizing or taking accountability for these things, he makes this behaviour (harassment, death threats, cyber bullying, telling ppl to kill themselves or hurt themselves) an okay thing to do. His fans are so toxic and will defend him so much to the point where if you literally just say that you don't like him, they will harass and spam you with really triggering things.

I really hope this clears that up. He's definitely done other things but I couldn't remember them- if anyone has anything else to add please do.

Okay I did post the au in 3 different parts and had a tag for it but I forgot it so I'm just gonna screenshot my notes app instead

Ummm a basic summary is that a random selection of the enstars cast get affected by this weird disease or something and it causes them to try to inflict suffering on themselves and everyone else as much as possible. In my dream the only character that was focused on regarding who had it was niki so I had to think of who else would get it. You can get the disease through your insecurities consuming you to a point it makes you sensitive to the disease.

An interesting part of the dream was that Sora's synesthesia was able to tell who had it because their colour would be horrifying no matter how well they acted (except one guy. uhh). When everyone finds out about the disease everyone tries to help as much as possible. Natsume and Sora try to find a cure (Tsumugi was one of the first affected and that's how they found it). Because of that Tsumugi's just kinda their test dummy to find out about the disease.

Ummm I thought of a good/bad ending. It's very black and white it's just everyone's fine or everyone's affected. I've only thought about the good + bad ending for crazy:b so don't ask about the others. If you wanna add to this you're more than welcome actually.

The sickness reminds me of akumatization in miraculous ladybug, i think it's an interesting premise to push people to their limits in crisis. But for worldbuilding purposes, at what point in the timeline did you envision this AU happening? Im asking because im not sure if nazuna being insecure about his leadership skills really fits in current ES2 where he hasnt been the leader of ra*bits in a year. But if the AU happens in like. Spring-summer of ES1 it could add another point of tension. Thinking about this illness being a direct result of the war, even. Maybe.

Im not entirely sold on wataru having it though. You said eichi would be the only one who kind of knows, and to me in that case he would leave no stone unturned to try to help wataru heal. Which would lead to him having to work directly with natsume for a cure... im quite interested in this part. Especially if tsumugi is patient 0 they're testing remedies on. How far would eichi go experimenting? The arguments with natsume that would ensue? Much to think about here...

I like that chiaki gets it and kanata helps make him human again... reverse meteor impact. Also i imagine madara tries to hide it and doesnt tell anyone, espeeecially not kanata. But i want kanata to find out that madara was affected too and to try to help (but also for him to remember how he cant actually heal anyone, he's not a god, do you think he forgot how his first failed miracle was madara's own sister?). Im not sold on madara's insecurity that makes him sick being just. His loneliness. It seems too shallow for how much is actually wrong with this guy, the loneliness is more of a cure he finds for himself to not let others know he is sick more than the symptom itself.

As for knights hmmm depending on when the AU is set i could see tsukasa also getting it. Leo and tsukasa both, and they end up helping each other as well. The description of sick izumi in your notes is just regular ES1 izumi...funny.

Job Job feels like it was designed to be sold individually.

And i’m not saying that because Job Job’s single-faucetly carrying the entire Jackbox Party Pack 8 on their back to the point where it should just be renamed to Job Job and Co. (i’ll get to that later), but because of how darn REFERENCTIAL IT IS TO OTHER INSTALMENTS OF THE SERIES!!!

And it’s not like in Mad Verse City where you can destroy a building called “Guy Towers”, or DODE telling the player to go play Fibbage if you run out of time: ALL OF THE PLAYERS ARE LITERAL REFFERENCES TO OTHER INSTALMENTS!!! 

That would be like if in Bidiots, all the paddles were silhouettes of other instalments, or if all of the humans designs in Monster Seeking Monster were exclusively made up of characters from previous packs instead of just the semi-scraped orange guy from Fakin’ it.

Out of the 21 idles that occur when writing down responses, or coming up with your resume: 16 are Job Job-esc, while 5 references other instalments. That’s 23.81% of the games idles being references. On it’s own, maybe it seems like i’m overreacting in the idles department, but add that onto the fact that these references are EVERYWHERE ELSE IN THE DAMN GAME!!!

This is probably the game to have THE MOST REFFERENCES TO PREVIOUS INSTALMENTS out of ALL of the Party Packs, nay, THE ENTIRE COMPANY’S HISTORY!! It’s frankly excessive, and would not be as distracting if it was it’s own standalone game! (which it frankly should be) It there was a mod that removed every asset that contains a reference to another instalment, not modifying them to remove the reference, REMOVING THE ASSET IN IT’S ENTIRETY and replacing it with a black box to still get the game working: the game would have a lot of black boxes, i’ll just leave it at that.

It feels like they were designing Job Job to be it’s own title, but then realized that they needed to make a Party Pack for that year and then just quickly took a bunch of scrapped ideas and stapled them onto Job Job. The casual fans certainly treats it like that’s the case.

I mean look at the Steam Community for The Jackbox Party Pack 8 and you’ll mostly see screenshots of Job Job and The Wheel of Enormous Proportions’ funny responses (something that can be emulated by a Discord bot as shown by their official Discord server), with the occasional screenshot of someone winning ether The Poll Mines or Weapons Drawn. Families aren’t hovering over The Jackbox Party Pack 8 asking “Hey, do you guys wanna play this pack?”, they’re asking “Hey, do you guys wanna play Job Job?”

To make a long post short: Job Job not only feels like it’s a standalone game by it’s quality compared to their Pack-mates, but also because of the unhealthy amount of references it has to other games, to the point where the players can’t even have their own identity or charm!

Asking here in case other people also wonder. How do you get such good and clean screenshots of Balders Gate 3? With no UI and great framing.

You're actually the third person to ask me, so it's prolly time I answered it more in this format. So, thank you. &lt;3

First, I'm on PC, so when I'm in Steam or GOG (depends on which people I'm playing with, but Steam works quicker so it's my preference) playing the game, all I have to do is press my 'print screen' button (which for me is F12), and it just captures the screen as is while the cut scenes are going, which renders at the same resolution as my laptop background. Then when I wanna change up the brightness or anything, I open the screenshot into Photoshop, do the adjustments, then I 'convert to smart object', and then I go up to the filter and I 'smart sharpen' on settings I've messed with over the years (Amount between 100 and 200 depending on the picture, radius 1.0, reduce noise 10% and remove glaussian blur). Then I always save as a PNG, as I've noticed the quality is better than a JPEG.

As for the UI, I do have one, I just crop it out, and sometimes when I know a scene is coming I wanna screencap, I turn all my subtitles off. My sister actually has a mod that takes the UI off when applicable (it's the UI Dialogue version of the Improved UI), but not everyone wants to add a bunch of mods, so I just take the subtitles off and then crop the buttons out.

Admittedly, I've been spamming the button a bit lately since I realized how nice the screencaps are coming out, so I have more to pick and choose from, but it has been working. That all said, I also have a gaming laptop, so my graphics are all on the highest setting I can have them on, my NVidia Geforce graphics card settings are all on default, and that all helps me specifically with the movement not blurring or pixelating when I don't want it to. I know a couple of people who don't have a gaming laptop though, but they too are using the print screen button.

9. What are your file name conventions

I’m actually super organized!

Ok so I organize everything in my art folder by purpose or projects; my main three are three folders named Workfiles, Sketches and Finished and this should be fairly self explanatory.

Within the folders, I will name my files in the format of first stating franchise (or au), character featured in the picture and then a title of what’s going on.

So ie, my Arcane screenshot redraws would be named ArcaneEdwardRedraw.psd. I write it that way with capitalized letters because it’s how I was taught in school how to name things.

In the case of multiple versions of files because I’m tweaking between them, I will add “_01” to the name of the file and then go in ascending order so I don’t have to deal with files named “actuallfyinalFINAL”

Yes I work in games and I’m a a stickler for upholding naming conventions, why do you ask.

15. *Where* do you draw (don't drop your ip address this just means do you doodle at a park or smth)

My office at home! I got a decent setup for digital art which I’m really digging with my cintiq tucked to the side of my monitors and a gaming keypad for shortcuts.

Sometimes I draw on my laptop on my couch if I wanna watch tv while drawing or hang out with my roommate. If I draw traditionally, I draw on the couch as well. There’s space on my desk with the cintiq folded away but idk I just like the couch.

Remind me to show off my workstation sometime bc it looks great and I’m really proud of it.

20. Something everyone else finds hard to draw but you enjoy

Lineart! It’s literally my favorite part and I spend the most time on it. I feel like I hear most of my artist friends complain about lineart sucking but that’s the part I look forward for on the most.

23. Do you use different layer modes

Yep! I actually use photoshop primarily because I like and use the photo editing aspect of it so much, and while doing post processing on pictures I will mess around with blending modes and I’m an avid user of layer masks and adjustment layers on literally every pic I take past flat colors.
