Are you working on any personal projects? Any comics from you on the horizon?
Hopefully!
I've got a main idea of comics I want to do, but I'm gonna take longer talking about it, so I'll first mention a couple others-
I've in the past drawn a lot of like, online meme characters. Not this exactly, but stuff like "Earth-chan". Lately been thinking about revisiting that, making them my own characters, changing designs and names, and working from that for small slice-of-life things.
I've got a friend I collab with on ideas, and I asked him ideas for short stories. Planning to draw a couple of his ideas, both for portfolio and because he does good stuff.
However, the main thing, of course, is my ideas involving my characters Lalla Shepherd, Jackie Pollard, Lily Rock, etc etc.
Tumblr media
Gonna go on at length about it now, so putting it under a read more.
I've got a setting of characters etc I've nurtured for a few years now. It's a setting of cartoon animal people, adventure, fighting, etc. Very much trying to replicate the Disney comics I grew up on, stuff like Barks, Cavazzano, Gottfredson, but also stuff like Tintin, Indiana Jones, Sonic the Comic. It's set in a fantasy version of Earth circa the 1960s, by which I mean it's just Earth, but everything's been renamed for denial purposes, a layer of distance. If I want "London" to be the 60s but "Lisbon" to be the 80s, I get to do so, because it's not really London or Lisbon, it's Fumdon and St. Vincent, right? If I want there to be a war in the backstory, it can be WW1, WW2, Korean War, and Vietnam War all at once, because it's not really any of those, it's a fantasy one. Kinda what Pokémon does with its regions.
The idea is to do multiple stories, small stories, short stories, in this setting. Again, like the comics I grew up on- adventure stories of 10 pages, rather than epics of 1000.
You can read an early first go at an introduction to it here. It's kind of outdated, in aesthetics at least, but it's still overall matching what I plan.
The starting point is, there's these three characters- Lalla Shepherd, a racer and former soldier dealing with what happened to her during the War, Jackie Pollard, a girl with a mysterious past who appears in Fumdon looking for a job and with an amazing aim; and Lily Rock, a supremely confident fighter who's travelled the world and is sent to Fumdon to cover the upcoming Tournament. Said Tournament is going to be a combat tournament held in Fumdon but part of the culture of a separate small nation-estate, as a diplomatic move between countries. This is attracting weirdos and people with ill intent, so our three main characters get made into a team of sheriffs to deal with it in the months leading to the event proper.
The tournament is primarily just a plot excuse though- it'll be happening "soon" for as long as needed. It's a near-future event that excuses why any character would be appearing now and making their entrance in the public stage, no matter how weird they might be.
It's also about a bootlegging criminal in another country, whose wares get stolen by a wannabe gentleman thief, and how that drags a lot of other characters into that story.
Open and obvious about it, it's primarily made of me seeing characters and ideas in other stuff, and going "I want to make my own version". Very Alan Moore League of Extraordinary Gentlemen in that sense- "I want to make fanfiction where James Bond fights The Avengers (the british spy team) and Mina Murray (from Dracula), but I don't have the rights for them, so I'll switch names around etc." Very cape comic books in that sense too- "we want to tell a story about Superman, but we're Marvel, so we make a Superman pastiche called Hyperion".
Part of it was influenced by the upcoming wave of public domain stuff in the US. As you can see by my drawings, it was planning to use specific characters like Mickey Mouse, but then I got confirmation that that's really really not gonna work internationally. Ah well.
Some of you might've been here long enough to recognise a lot of these ideas and characters were part of an abandoned webcomic I was doing before, 4QC. Well yeah, this is me trying to make that one work and avoid the pitfalls that killed it lol.
Dunno, hope that's enough context. I'm hoping I can get a new story of this, a remake of the old one I did maybe, out before the end of the year; and then to do a lot more next year, using the money I'm saving from Sonic work this year.

Show Review #1
Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix
Spoilers for: Season 1
Main takeaway: Very fun and very nice animation, absolutely had a blast watching it and if you're a fan of Ubisoft then I'd recommend the show, maybe you can appreciate it better than me (Casual fan lmao what a loser)
Rayman also curses
6/10 would watch again once they announce a season 2
Okay actual breakdown under the cut
I'll get the good stuff out first
First thing to know I'm a sucker for Retro Futurism and the 80s aesthetic this show pulls goes HARD, visually pleasing in all corners and an animation that does not disappoint, fan of mixed mediums for storytelling? This show's got you; the sequences reminiscent of retro graphics were executed pretty well and served as a nice break of the fast paced action throughout: Favorite one of these were the Dolph and Sarah sequences in the virtual reality facility.
Soundtrack also does not disappoint with small references both in melodies and/or names to the games it's paying homage to.
The world is also really interesting and the show spends enough time to get us curious about everything and also catch us up to speed to its history. Certainly left me hooked to what season 2 will do.
Okay now the negatives
The show is short, like, really really short (under 3 hours), and I don't know if it was a producer's choice or a creative choice, maybe they were told they had 6 episode of less than 30 minutes each to do what they wanted and that's it unless it performs well and then maybe we'll get a 2nd season (SMALL TANGENT:
The show is filled with love, you can tell, the people who worked on it had a clear vision in what they wanted to say and the world they wanted to show)
My main issue is the way they paced it, we're introduced to Dolph Laserhawk (main character) and Alex Taylor (soon to be ex-boyfriend), then Alex betrays Dolph, and then we are introduced to the rest of the crew (Jade, Pey'j and Bullfrog) all in the same episode, this wouldn't be an issue, except next episode they kill Jade, and yeah, shocked they decided to kill a character who I thought would be major right on episode 2), while all this is happening we get to learn the world they live in (dystopian capitalist and fascist nightmare run by Eden (who hey are also the Templar Order for all my assassin's creed fans)) and why it fucking sucks (good stuff good stuff), also Rayman is a spokesperson for Eden and a propaganda tool
This is my problem; these two episodes, needed time to breath in between, both for Laserhawk as a character to process what is happening and for us the audience to acclimate ourselves to the world better, because boy this goes from shit to SHIT in a matter of episode to episode and you better strap in because we're not taking a breathing we're just GOING.
So problem #1; pacing of the story, which leads me to
Problem #2; the characters didn't feel like they connected to each other that much
This is not relating to characters like Dolph and Alex (who clearly had a dynamic before and through the brief interactions we see in episode 1 we can interpret it), or Jade and Pey'j who had a previous history and thus you can tell why they work well together (TANGENT: I have not played Beyond Good and Evil but WHAT THE FUCK was up with Pey'j j having a crush on Jade??? That's your adoptive daughter basically (according to the show) so what the fuuuuuuuck).
This mostly comes with how the group relates to one another, with the exception of Bullfrog (being the character who probably has the least development or archetype change (which would be a criticism if not for the narrative to demand one grounded character)), who kind of holds the whole team together. This is an issue for me, because when Dolph is in his reality dream I can't really buy he would imagine himself on a beach with Alex (by this point death and with a lot of conflicted feelings about) and the rest of the Ghosts.
I feel like 1 episode as a breather where we get to see more of the crew together while cutting to Alex planning or scheming will A) Make Jade's death even more impactful (because, come on, that was totally what you wanted to do) B) give the crew more time to connect to each other and us to them as audience and C) Give both Dolph and Alex time to breath as characters and explore more of the world.
The third issue is something I noticed and maybe something I'd do differently, l watched the trailer after the show, and the way the trailer sells the show is more of a "Mission of the week" type of show (which I get considering it pulls heavy on the action adventures of the 80s'). This led me to think about the pacing problem again and thought about a few things.
Hypothetically, if I was to give them the time to develop this first part of the story, I'd give them 2 seasons of 5 episodes each
The first three episodes (Introduction - First Mission - Capture and Violence) could've been fit in the first season with Alex as the main antagonist, setting up Rayman for his arc

After learning he’s a grimwalker, Hunter might be wondering if he’s even a real person. After all, he seemed to know what a grimwalker is.
Having Flapjack is really important. I think Flapjack would bring Hunter to the Bat Queen. If anyone would know about wondering whether or not they’re real, it would be the palismen. After all, parliament are carved from wood. They aren’t born either.
Hunter really needs advice right now, and someone who understands where he’s coming from.

Okay, so there's this trope that I absolutely HATE. It's when the villain is so much more powerful than the hero, for no good reason, and the only reason the hero wins is because the villain is straight-up stupid. Like, the hero has all these restrictions and whatnot with their powers (time limits, limited use), while the villain DOESN'T. Like... what? There's no way this hero should be winning, except, the villain is dumb!
Take miraculous for example. Ladybug and Chat Noir can only use their power ONCE, and once they use their power, they have to detransform, recharge their kwamis, and retransform. Meanwhile, Hawkmoth (and Mayura) never have to detransform! Hawkmoth can send out another Akuma as soon as he wants. And he can even make it so he can send out as many as he wants! (See, Catalyst.) So why is Hawkmoth losing? Because he's dumb. He akumatizes Mr. Pigeon 72 times. He gives the akumatized villains dumb powers. And the akumas themselves make stupid choices, despite having no limits on their powers themselves (a few exceptions, like Lady Wifi needing her phone). The only reason Ladybug and Chat Noir are winning is because they're smarter than Hawkmoth! And it's not like their intelligence is a strength. If anything, they're dumb too. Hawkmoth is just more dumb. And the reason he doesn't have the same limit on his power? He's an adult. Yep. Not experience or anything. He's just an adult. Mayura didn't have a limit on her power when she first transformed as an adult.
Another example: Power Rangers (don't hate me, please). It's not as obvious, but like... guys, the villains follow the same pattern every. Single. Time. Like... just start expecting it. Or better yet, main villains, stop sending the bad guys in when you know it doesn't work! Like, seriously. These shows have the villain do pretty much the same thing every episode, with a different face. Show heroes. Show villains. Send the bad guy in. Fight. Defeat. Bad guys gets bigger. Fight. Defeat again. Lesson learned. Seriously, stop following this same pattern! Also, you guys always have access to your powers, while the ranger team needs to transform. And when the rangers get their powers, they don't need training or anything...? What?
Most kid shows are like this. The heroes are obviously less powerful than the villain, but the villain is dumb. Like, making the villain dumb on purpose is fine. But when you're treating them as an actual threat when they aren't... seriously?
Do I have any series that don't follow this pattern?
Yes. Yes I do.
Sailor Moon. Usagi just got her powers. So did her friends. They're insanely powerful, but they don't know how to use their powers. Meanwhile, the villains are like... thousands of years old. They have plenty of experience. The heroes and villains have around the same power level (I mean, Usagi literally destroys an entire planet in the second arc), the villains just have more experience!
Harry Potter. Voldemort is an adult. He's finished school, and has had lots of training and practice. He's also naturally gifted. Dumbledore has also had lots of practice and training. They're so powerful for these reasons. Meanwhile, everyone else either isn't as naturally gifted, or is legit still in school. Harry wins because of luck. He happened to disarm the elder wand's true master, so the elder wand would never hurt him. Harry also sacrificed himself, meaning Voldemort couldn't hurt anyone else. ACTUAL REASONS.
Percy Jackson. The demigods are kids, and they're HUMAN. The villains are all immortal, with lots more practice. Kronos was defeated because Luke managed to regain control long enough to sacrifice himself. Gaea was defeated because she was removed from her source of power. Hey look, more ACTUAL REASONS.
Phineas and Ferb. Yes, Doof is stupid. The series literally makes jokes at that. He's not treated as a super serious villain most of the time. THAT'S WHY IT WORKS. Meanwhile, Perry has had lots of training. Woah, the hero is better than the villain!
When the only reason there's an actual fight is because the Villain is more powerful just because it's not good. The heroes shouldn't be able to defeat this villain. The villain is too powerful compared to them. The only reason the heroes beat the villain is because the villain is dumb. That's why this bothers me! In a normal world, these villains wouldn't be defeated! If you're going to make the villain so much more powerful, give them a legit reason, like they've had way more experience, or they're naturally gifted! Or if you're going to make them dumb, than go hard on that! Don't make them this super serious threat when they aren't! The simple reason "they're an adult" is stupid. Just because you're an adult doesn't mean you skip the learning stage. Just being an adult isn't a reason. Something like "They've had more years to train because they're an adult now" works. Just being an adult doesn't work (I'm looking at you miraculous). Maybe the reason is because they're stronger. Explain why! Promised Neverland does this well, with the villains, the demons, being a different species! Another example from Promised Neverland, the "moms" being so much smarter than the kids, because they've had years to train. Or Norman being increadibly smart because it's a specialty. Raw talent.
In summary, please, don't make the villains so much more powerful than the heroes, and only lose because they're dumb. Make the villain and hero powerful, and not dumb, or make the villain dumb and make jabs at it for fun, but don't do them together. Because then the story is just plain unrealistic.
And I hate that.

After seeing the Collector stop the draining spell only minutes after Eda lost her arm, I was wondering (like a lot of others), why did they make Eda lose her arm? If they had just waited a few more minutes she would have been fine.
Then I realized her curse would kill her first. She didn't have a few more minutes. At the speed the corruption was spreading, she probably had like, a minute at most.
Raine could tell that. They didn't know if the spell could be stopped, so they decided they had to save Eda. They might die, but at least Eda would be safe.

My #1 post of 2022
Notes: I've seen many people do the fic where Marinette gets kicked off the class trip, but how mean her classmates acted bothered me, so I made them as in character as I could.
This takes place after season 3 if Marinette got Master Fu's tablet instead of Gabriel. Uh... that's all I've got to say.
--------------------
Marinette’s entire life changed when Lila joined her class.
Adrien insisted they don’t call Lila out. Gone was her friendship with him, and her crush.
The majority of her class believed Lila about Marinette bullying her. Those friendships were gone.
She lost trust with Mme. Bustier, as Bustier believed Lila’s injuries without any doctors records.
So when the school year was drawing to a close, Marinette’s only friends left in the class were Alya, Nino, Rose, Juleka, and Nathaniel.
Some of her other classmates were picking on her (slamming the door in her face, tripping her), but most of them just stood by passively.
Marinette had noticed Chloe was annoyed with Lila but assumed that was just because Lila was getting more attention than her.
So when Chloe had walked to Marinette’s desk with a thick binder, Marinette was surprised.
Chloe set the binder down on Marinette’s desk.
“What’s this?” Marinette asked.
“It’s…” Chloe muttered. “It’s a record of everything I’ve ever done to you. From the snide comments to wrecking your work and copying you,”
Marinette blinked, and opened the binder. To her surprise, Chloe was telling the truth. Everything Chloe had done to her in the past four years was written in the binder, in Chloe’s handwriting. However, next to each thing was a number. Most of the records of the snide comments had a single euro written out next to them, but some of the meaner things had even more euros, and anything Chloe had wrecked or copied had a number that matched the price of the object.
“What’s with the euros?” Marinette asked.
Chloe winced.
“I…” Chloe started, her voice cracking. “I thought that maybe I should pay you back. Things cost money, and I know that if I ruined your things or copied them, I had wasted your money… so… I’m going to pay you back,”
“Why are you paying me for things you said though?” Marinette asked.
“Because-” Chloe’s voice broke. “Because… well, I know that you’ve done everything for the class for free in the past. I’ve noticed. You made the banner for that race for free, you’ve made all their outfits for free… I felt like someone should pay you, and if they aren’t, then I will. And I’ve made enough mean comments about you that you’ll make a profit off of this,”
Marinette stared at the binder, then up at Chloe.
“Why are you doing this?” Marinette asked.
Chloe looked to the floor.
“I guess…” Chloe muttered. “I was just mean because I was jealous. You’re talented, you have your parents, and you were friends with everyone. Meanwhile, my mom can’t even keep my name straight, cheated on my dad and I have this half-sister I’ve never met, I make Sabrina do everything, and no one likes me… I thought making you miserable would make me feel better, and I guess I got carried away and didn’t realize that it was wrong. But after seeing how the class has treated you, some of whom have known you for years… I realized just how bad I was being. I realized what I put Sabrina through. And then Adrien… he knows the truth, and refuses to do anything! And Mme. Bustier is horrible!”
Chloe was lucky they were the only people in the classroom because the majority of the class would have glared at her.
“Alya doesn’t really like her either,” Marinette said.
“So… yeah,” Chloe said. “Can we… start over? As friends?”
Marinette looked at the binder.
“Sure,” Marinette said.

The Owner’s Office
Franklin x Female Reader (MGG in Beginner’s luck)
Tumblr media
Summary: Franklin won’t stop asking the owner of the bowling alley if he can have a discount when the team rents the alley.
A/N: Heyyy heyyy- here’s my first Franklin fic in a while!!! It’s been sitting in my WIPs in a while and I felt the urge to finish it! @sunlight-moonrise is the main person who helped inspire me for this fic- and of course the amazing @spencers-dria. This is my fic for today for my 1000 follower celebration!!! Thanks for all the support you guys!!! Requests are open!
Warnings: 18+, Hate fucking, Panties stuffed in mouth, Oral sex (M receiving), Franklin wants to be called a god, calling reader a fuck toy
Main Masterlist  Word count: 2.1k
Owning the most popular bowling alley in Little Falls was more of an exhausting task then most people would assume. I had to work everyday almost 7 days a week to maintain my small business that I had inherited from my father. Honestly, some days I was so exhausted, the gain seemingly so little that if it wasn’t for wanting to keep the business to continue what my father built I would sell it in a heartbeat.
The alley wasn’t anything all that grand or special from a first glance, it was a stereotypical bowling alley with orange and turquoise walls and bright red seats. What really made this place special was all the memories I and the rest of Little Falls had here.
The space that I used as my office was more of a closet then a full office, it also had to have the mop bucket and any other cleaning supplies shoved in there. The desk that was jammed into the space was a shitty little thing, unbalanced and made of cold grey metal that made me shiver whenever I rested my arms on it to type. One would not call the place charming but it was mine, just as it had been my father’s.
When the business had passed onto me I decided to keep the office the same way my father had it. Despite its shitty appearance that was where I ended up spending most of my time while I worked. I had to spend most of my day going through paperwork for the alley and barely had time to come out of my office unless it was right before closing to help the rest of the staff (Namely Rebecca) to clean up.
Usually the times I had to come out were because of one person. Though, at this point I view him as the source of all the annoyance in my life more so than an actual person.
Franklin.
I could rant all day about my deep seated loathing for the man that everyone in Little Falls called their god. Well, everyone except me. He was the person who strutted around like he owned the place- even though I was the one who paid the bills for the place. Most of my gripe with him was for the fact that he would insist that his whole team could have the bowling alley to themselves while they practiced. For some reason he had some deep seated paranoia that people would spy on his team. This led to many arguments between the two of us, mostly about how he didn’t want to pay rent because his team was the only thing bringing money to my alley or about how I didn’t give them enough time to practice. In return I would just tell him to take his business somewhere else if he really cared so much about the rent or needed more practice time.
As I walked in to work my mood was already sour, I had spilled my morning coffee all over me and was running late because I had to change my clothes. As the owner of the alley it didn’t really matter what time I came in but, I had myself stick to a strict schedule, I wanted to be a good role model for my staff. My mood turned from sour to livid when I saw Franklin sitting in one of the chairs at the last lane that happened to be closest to the door to my office. I groaned internally at the sight, the only reason he’d ever show up without his team was to try and chew me out about his practice schedule.
I did not need this today.
Luckily, there was only one bowler here this early and he happened to be at the farthest lane away from my office, no doubt being warned by the staff to be far away from my office as soon as they saw Franklin walk in. My greeting to him consisted of only an angry pointed finger towards the door trying to usher him in quickly before I exploded in the middle of the alley.
“I deserve an 80% discount.” He said immediately after I shut the door to my office. With the amount of times I rolled my eyes everyday in response to Franklin’s antics it was a wonder that they didn’t get stuck in that position.
“And what’s the reason this time that you think you deserve a discount.”
“My team is the only reason your alley pulls in any money.”
“That’s not true.” I simply stated, crossing my arms and looking away from the face that causes me to feel such boiling anger.
“Can I at least get a better practice schedule?”
“No.”
“Why not?” His indignation against a person in some sort of position of authority above him was astounding, he even added to my disbelief by hitting his hand hard enough on my desk to leave a slight dent. Well, that was never leaving. Though it's not like it was a particularly fancy desk, I was still even more pissed than I had been in the first place.
“I’ve given my reason why plenty of times you just don’t listen.” I was about to shove him out of my pathetic excuse for an office if he continued.
“Why should I have to listen to stupid reasonings?”
“Fuck- could you please just shut up!” Me screaming at him to shut up wasn’t out of place in our normal hostile conversations, something about the pause after my shout this time was brewing a different type of tension.
When we met for a kiss it was fueled with the anger that had been surmounting over a long period of time, since as long as I’d known him. If I wouldn’t have to explain why he was leaving my office shirtless I would’ve ripped open the big-z tires shirt he was wearing out of pure anger. Once we had angrily ripped off all of our clothes he hoisted me up onto my metal desk. I hissed from the sudden contact of the cold metal on my ass which only made Franklin laugh. I glared at him hard in response, but unfortunately he did not wither away from my gaze, so I decided to lightly threaten him with extreme embarrassment,
“I’ll kick you out of here without your clothes on, shut up.”
That successfully shut him up quick, and he actually focused on my own pleasure for a while. He didn’t sink down on his knees to eat me out because of course Franklin wouldn’t kneel for anybody. He instead parted my folds and began to rub my clit slowly, he had to be a tease instead of just obliging someone for once.
When I whined out in annoyance at his slow movements he tsked at me before saying, “I’m trying to get you ready for how big I am.”
It pained me to admit that he was right as I looked at his cock, which was probably the biggest one I’ve ever been with. I still decided to whine again to see what he’d do in response. When my panties were then shoved into my mouth as a makeshift gag I spluttered in surprise. I would have ripped it out of my mouth in anger if it wasn’t the hottest thing. Plus the words that he said next did nothing to help how wet I was between my legs, “Now you’re the one that has to shut up.”
Once I was properly prepped for his standards he immediately moved onto his pleasure, I hoped I at least got an orgasm out of this. But, if I was being honest with myself I was more turned on right now than I had ever been with another guy. He thrust into me all the way to the hilt with no warning, causing me to cry out in surprise. Glad I was ready enough to take him, he’s such an ass.
Though despite that, I wouldn’t deny that he felt amazing inside of me as he fucked me hard and dirty on my office desk.
“Who’s your god now?” His cocky voice made me want to scream, which I did, but it was more out of pleasure rather than annoyance. He then pulled the panties out of my mouth even though if anyone heard how loud I was right now my employees would whisper behind my back about it till the end of time. What he said next didn’t surprise me at all,  “I want to hear you call me a god, doll. You’re just a bratty little fuck doll for your god’s pleasure.”
“I’m not calling you a god. Doesn’t-” My sentence cut off when Franklin moved his hand to rub at my clit, shocks of pleasure going through me as a result. I bit down on my lip to try in vein to compose myself a little before continuing, “Doesn’t matter if you’re fucking me, you’re still not a god.”
“I’m still the person who’s gonna make you have the best orgasm of your life.”
“I-I’d like to see you try.” And try he did. His hips pistoned into mine with brute strength I didn’t think such a lanky man like him could have. We were probably being so loud that you could hear our skin slapping together rhythmically plus the loud moans that wouldn’t stop coming out of my mouth. Even though it was the hardest thing to admit, he was about to make me orgasm so hard it might’ve been the best one of my life.
I fell over the edge with a high pitched cry, Franklin continuing to rub my clit until I was overstimulated and had to push his hand away. I pushed his shoulder slightly to signal that he needed to get off me then explaining, “There’s no way I’m letting you cum inside me, you can cum in my mouth or nothing else.”
He looked annoyed with me for a second, almost if he wanted to ask if he cumming on my face would be a viable alternative. Luckily for the sake of his own orgasm he decided to keep his mouth shut. I then dropped down to my knees, ignoring the sharp little sting of pain as I took him in my mouth. It only took a little bit of time of me bobbing me head up and down, making sure to hollow my cheeks as best as I could. At one point he tried to wind his hands into my hair as a way to non verbally ask if he could fuck my face. If it had been anyone but Franklin I probably would’ve allowed them too, but instead I hit his hand away, looking up between my lashes with a glare to silently tell him to be grateful he was getting to finish at all. Hot thick ropes of his cum then suddenly shot down my throat with little warning from him, causing me to gag slightly, I’m sure he probably enjoyed that. I wasn’t one to not swallow personally, even if I did hate his guts it was still hot to swallow his cum down my throat. Once I had sufficiently caught my breath I started to clean myself up and get my clothes on, not expecting any aftercare from the bowling alley’s resident asshole.
“So-  Do I get that discount?” I whipped around as I rebuttoned up my shirt about to start our argument all over again until I saw a smirk on his face unlike the ones I had seen before. It wasn’t his usual cocky smirk, instead it was a teasing one, he was actually joking with me for once instead of screaming at me. I breathed out a little laugh in response and let the tension melt from my shoulders a little.
It was a relief to not fight with him for once and I kinda liked this Franklin. He still had an aura of smugness around him, but he wasn’t insufferable. He was maybe even a little likeable when he wasn’t screaming his head off at me. In response to his joke I rebutted with a little smirk, “You may not be an actual god but you sure fuck like one. And, no, of course you don’t get the discount.”

Types of Paywall Abuse --- A post...
I think it’s time to tackle a topic that might make a few simmers uncomfortable, but we need to talk about it, because in addition to seeing a lot of people complain about it in general, I’ve also been getting some anons in my inbox talking about it. So let’s discuss this.
Now, first of all, I would like to clarify a couple of things:
When I speak of PAYWALLS here, I am talking about custom content that can ONLY be accessed by paying, or viewing an ad through a virus filled ad shortener link (which is just as bad).  Pure early access content, where you pay for it and get it earlier than everyone else who gets it for free IS NOT PAYWALLED CONTENT.
This is why it is called a pay “WALL” because the wall portion indicates that you cannot access it without paying a fee/toll.
Second of all, I would like to remind the public at large that this is not hate, it is a critical commentary. I am not going to go for these creators personally, nor do I want to. I, as a member of the community who plays the sims 4, and downloads/uses CC, would like to simply hold some of these creators accountable for actions that are unethical and unsatisfactory to the community in which they serve. That is it. No more, no less. I simply believe they CAN do better and BE better than this.
Now, let’s get into the meat of this.
The main type of abuse that I have focused on has been what I call Permapaywalls.
Permapaywalls:
Content that cannot be accessed ANY other way than either paying a certain amount via patreon or another service, OR viewing a link through a virus-filled ad that puts your computer at risk.
There are many creators who are well known permapaywall creators, with at least 80% or more of their content being locked behind these permapaywalls. Sometimes they may release a few items for free, but this is very similar to being allowed to test drive a car before buying it. It’s to entice the user/viewer into liking the brand, and then buying in.
I’m not going to delve into this too much because I’ve already expounded on this topic a bit. So let’s go further.
The next type of abuse is what I like to call “Exclusive Loopholes”.
Exclusive Loopholes: Creators who try to “get around” EA’s early access policy by offering a majority of their content as early access, but holding back certain items only to those who “subscribe” to their “patreon exclusive” content.
There are some who are okay with this, thinking of this as a neat “bonus” for those who subscribe and support. However, the sims team made it clear:
Folks who have a Patreon page are welcome to provide folks with "early access" incentives for their content but it should be made available to the general public within 2-3 weeks of it being given to folks early.
- Simguru Drake, The Sims Forum
Notice nowhere in this answer does it say anything about BONUS CC incentives. Nowhere. This is just a method that certain creators try to use to keep people from decrying them as “big bad paywall creators”. This way they can say “oh look, we do early access, we’re following EA’s rules~!” while still holding content hostage.
Tumblr media
If you want to offer your patreons some exclusives, here’s some ideas:  * Share pictures of your process, or work in progress content coming up.  * Allow them to have input into your process via polls and questions.  * Have an exclusive discord community just for your patreons where they can talk to you easier and share excitement and input about your content with you and each other.  * Have exclusive streams where only you and your patreons have the link to see you go live making content.  * Host a workshop on how to make CC using your process. (I see all of you who steal meshes from other sites sweating over this. ;D)  * Pause billing for a month and say “you know what, since you guys have been loyal and supported me, have a month of patreon on me!”  * Anything that honestly doesn’t involve only giving those patreons CC and not releasing it to the public.
Let’s talk about another type, and oh my lanta, this type has had some anons messaging me ALL up in arms. I like to call this type “The Donation Disaster”.
Donation Disaster: Someone who CONSTANTLY uses the “downs” in the up/downs of life as excuses to not release content on time, or delay it while still collecting payment from patreons. Bonus “you’re a jerk” points if they then try to use those misfortunate circumstances to beg for even more money from their patreons on multiple occasions.
Look, we all have junk that goes on in our lives. But when that junk is used as an excuse for you continually delaying content while still charging your patreons (and not using the pause feature), it makes them feel cheated.  In addition, when you then ask for donations to help you during your difficult time, and turn to your patreons instead of the support networks that are around you (ex: friends, family, religious communities, etc.), that can be VERY off-putting. You might be able to get away with it once, maybe twice, without a large chunk of your community turning against you. But the more regular it becomes, and the more they hear about how strapped for cash you are and how you’re asking them to give more than their pledge, and you’ll soon find yourself being called a scammer. Regardless of your intent, or if your problems are reality, you’ll find people’s empathy for your situation will be lacking.
I’ve had a few anons in my inbox talking about different patreon creators that always seem to have an excuse for why updates aren’t coming just yet, or why x is broken, and with their excuse comes a plea for help with bills, and a link to a paypal or venmo.
Everyone has junk, don’t get me wrong. And it sucks to go through the junk we have in life, but if you’re reaching out to random people on the internet as your first method of support, you might need to be looking someplace else for support first before you come to the people who are already paying you for content you make. A one time “hey I’m in a bind, I need some help” donation thing might not be a bad thing, but when it becomes a constant pattern on your patreon....people aren’t going to take it well...at all.
And last, but not least, I’d like to talk about the last kind of patreon abuse, which frankly, is really upsetting to me. I don’t even really have a name for it, because it’s literally so much of a “what?” thing in my head. I don’t even understand why it goes on.  Now, this practice involves the black/POC community, and frankly, as a white girl, I don’t feel I should be speaking over the community and what they have to say. Thankfully @xmiramira spoke on it, all the way back in 2019. Here’s an excerpt from her fantastic POST:
Even new creators who JUST joined the community sliding up in TBS with locs and braids talking about Patreon only. GTFOH. I’m not okay with creators doing Patreon only CC PERIOD, but my main discussion is focused on NON BLACK simmers making CC catered to US, and making it PATREON EXCLUSIVE IN AN ATTEMPT TO FORCE US TO PLEDGE, and how people are ASSUMING that I’m OKAY WITH THIS, and ASSUMING that I’m letting it FLY in my community. Just because I don’t go off about shit as frequent as I used to doesn’t mean I cannot see and I am not doing what I can to keep the fuckery OUT.“Oh but your friend has a Patreon” I don’t have an issue with what @ebonixsims is doing because it’s all early release. It gets released to the public a few weeks later. It’s not being kept behind Patreon, forcing people to pledge to her. Despite this, she’s still doing really good with it. So don’t get it twisted, I’m not on social media arguing with folks so people just assumed I’m okay with this shit, I’m really not. I’m actually two seconds off dropping Patreon share folders. (That also have my shit in it) Supporting people is one thing, but a lot of these motherfuckers are becoming extremely exploitive, and it’s aggravating. It’s like you goofy motherfuckers sit in DMs like “yeah let’s make some CC for the negros and put it on Patreon” Fuck outta here. And it’s not even just hair, it’s skins and even CLOTHING STYLES. Y’all are really wilding the hell out. African necklaces, black girl magic chains, Juicy Couture sweatsuits. Who the fuck do you think you’re fooling? IM TIRED! Next time someone asks me where I got something and it’s Patreon exclusive I’m dropping a SFS link. FUCK OUTTA HERE!
Here’s the deal. The black community has been fighting for a while to be able to feel represented in this game. Here’s two articles (ONE, TWO) talking about this issue.  But the thing that has me upset is the fact that SO many creators of content that is AIMED at Black/POC simmers are locking that content (or a good majority of it) behind paywalls. And what’s even more shameful is some of those creators are POC themselves! They understand what it’s like to feel that they cannot make themselves or have sims that look like them in this game, yet they still lock their content away and expect people not just in the SIMS community, but in the POC community to pay through the nose for it.  The fact that this is STILL going on, two freaking years after she made this post, and that both NON POC creators and POC creators are engaging in this behavior is honestly disappointing and shameful. I believe black/POC creators should be supported, BUT they should be supported without depriving their OWN community of representation and access. And frankly, if you’re a NON POC creator and you’re specifically targeting this group to make money off of them with paywalls, I have only one thing to say to you:
Tumblr media
I’d speak on it more, but frankly, I’d rather let the people who are actually in the black/POC community speak on it, so if any of you want to let loose in the comments about this problem, go wild. I’m happy to sit back and listen, and I suggest others do the same.

You know you really something
How'd we get here so damn fast?
Only you can tell me that
Baby, 'cause you know I'm coming back
Two years. It took two years for me to start over again. Two years it took for me to build up the walls that were broken down. Two years to pick up the remaining pieces of my heart. Two years it took for me to genuinely laugh and smile again. Two years for me to finally stop crying. At a young age, we are told stories of princesses and princes getting their ‘happily ever after’. Then you soon realize that those stories get your hopes up that someday you'll get to meet that perfect someone that would sweep you off your feet. They are wrong.
They say that you'll need time and patience. That time will come and that right person would soon come.
That's exactly what I did two years ago. I waited and waited...
Then one faithful day upon visiting S.H.I.E.L.D. for a meeting I was introduced to a new intern. He comes in and manages to worm his way into my life. I was happy, then a year into the relationship I found out I was nothing more than an object he uses for his own pleasure.
That's when my life turned upside down.
I felt broken, betrayed, angry, and scared. It's hilarious how one of the most feared Avenger was now scared and vulnerable. I felt pathetic for feeling scared. Scared of the feeling I felt. Scared of the feeling of being used— of being cheated on... at that point, I promised myself to never let my emotions get the best of me.
I use to wear my heart on my sleeves. These days I don't even know if I still have a heart. After the betrayal and after getting my heart broken, I felt numb. I lost that magical spark. I lost the warm feeling, the butterflies...
It scared me again.
It's funny how the pain that comes with heartache and love scared me, yet I similarly feel scared that I may not ever feel the feeling of falling in love again.
Well, up until I met him.
“Everyone, my brother would now be staying here at the compound to serve as an Avenger. It's his punishment ordered by Odin after what he did at New York” Thor announced as he pats his brother's back with a big grin plastered on his face.
The whole team gathered early in the morning when we were informed that Thor had important news to give the group. We were in one of the living rooms facing two Gods. One who in Tony’s words “a big idiot for allowing this to happen”, and the other was his adopted brother who tried to take over the world a couple of years ago.
“WHAT!”
They started to protest and argue with the blonde God as I continued to stare outside the huge windows wanting nothing more than for this meeting to be over so I could snuggle back in the comfort of my bed. I looked towards the raven-haired God, Loki. He was already staring at me which shocked me. He was wearing a muzzle on his mouth and had his hands cuffed behind him.
“He killed 80 people remember, tried to take over the world a few years ago, does that ring a bell? How are you so sure that he won't kill all of us in our sleep? Huh, point break?” Tony continued to argue with the God who looks like his decision has been made.
“He won't. I'll make sure of it and for the record Stark he was mind-controlled as well, we talked about this. Fury agreed to this as well” Thor said firmly as he looked towards his brother who was rolling his eyes making me bite down on my lip to stop me from laughing. This goes unnoticed by the rest of the team except for the God of Mischief himself. What was also unnoticed was the smile that formed on his face under the muzzle.
He was interested in her.
She was the only one who didn’t look at him like he was a piece of trash. She was the only one who did not argue against Thor. She was the only one who had this warm look in her eyes when she looked at him. Even his brother Thor looked like he wanted out of this plan, he knew his brother just wanted to make Odin proud.
“If Fury agreed, I guess we have no problem with this. Can we go now?” I chimed in causing all of them to stop and look towards me.
“Do you really agree with this plan Y/N?” Steve asks now facing me. All of them now waiting for my reply. I simply shrugged. “It could help the team to have him and if Fury thinks it's alright to have him around then why can't we?” I argued.
“Y/N you know how Fury can be at times, he sometimes makes stupid decisions” Tony argued softly at me. The whole team knew what happened two years ago with my failed relationship, and ever since then, they have been treating me like I was glass that would break anytime.
“We might regret this in the end, Y/N” Bruce replied looking at Loki wearily.
“We might regret this if we won't let him join.” I rephrase his statement looking at him then Loki. He had a surprised look on his face. Shocked that I was defending him. “You guys can't deny that he would be a good asset to have on the team” I continued now turning my body to look at Steve.
“He’s dangerous, he killed innocent people Y/N” Natasha moved forward she spoke with her eyes, pleading for me to think this through.
“So have we.”
Immediately their heads dropped. All now looking down their feet. They knew I was right. It was sad how they immediately judged him. Ever since that mission a few years ago in New York, I knew something was wrong with Loki. It was not wanting to take over the world, it was neglect.
He wanted to feel loved.
I knew that cause I knew how it felt. I saw the similarity in his eyes. He had the same look I had when I first found out I was used. He wanted someone to understand.
He wanted someone.
“I’m sorry Nat, but everyone in this room has blood in their hands— everyone.” I continued.
The silence in the room was deafening. The tension disappeared, it was only the truth and their past looming around their heads.
“...and if we get to have a second chance, why can't he?” I looked towards Thor who was now looking at me in awe. Proud that I was defending his brother.
“And if it makes any of you feel better, I'll help Thor watch over him” I proposed.
With that, they sighed and nodded in defeat knowing very well that I was right.
Later that night I was tasked to show Loki around the compound. He was quietly listening to me throughout the whole tour. His hands crossed golden cuffs present on both of his wrists. Tony made these cuffs that limit powers. He instructed me to give them to Loki and make sure he uses them in the meantime. He wanted to make sure that he won't do anything behind our backs.
Loki didn't really mind.
We were reaching the end of the tour and now we are headed to the third floor where Loki’s room is located.
“This is where you'll be staying,” I said as we stopped in front of the door of the room. “Your room is located in between mine and Thor’s. So if you need anything just ask” I opened the door and showed him the big space that he’ll be staying in. He walked in and looked around the place without uttering a single word. “You can decorate it if you'd like. You're free to do whatever with it, F.R.I.D.A.Y. can help you with things as well just ask her” I instructed as he sits at the edge of the bed.
“F.R.I.D.A.Y.?” he asked looking up to me confused.
“Yup F.R.I.D.A.Y. She's Artificial Intelligence. Tony created her, you can ask her anything you want” I smiled at him. He still looked confused as to what I was talking about which was understandable considering he is not from here.
“F.R.I.D.A.Y can you turn the television on, please?” I requested. In an instant, a female voice was heard throughout the entirety of the room. “Yes, Ms. Y/N” with that the TV turns on.
“F.R.I.D.A.Y. Loki would be staying with us and is a new member of the group. Please give him his needed assistance” I instructed now looking at shocked Loki who was looking around him as if he was seeing ghosts. Giggling he stops and turns to me “wha-”
“Standby for retinal and biometric scan” a blue light filled and scanned the room. “Retinal and biometric scan complete— Hi Mr. Loki” she introduced herself.
I moved away from the bed and decided to leave him and give him privacy. As I reached for the door his voice cuts through the room.
“Why’d you do it?”
“Do what?” turning towards him as I let go of the doorknob.
“Why did you defend me from your friends. They are right you know, I almost destroyed your home” he retorts his eyes glancing at my face scanning if I was intimidated by him in any way. Which I wasn't.
Sighing I looked back at him giving him a short sad smile. “Because they are being unfair, and because I know how it feels... to be treated poorly” with that I moved out of his room and opened the door next to it showing me my room.
What I didn't know was that the walls I carefully built and put up were slowly falling.
You're making me forget my past
Never thought I'd feel like that again
I came to peace with my path
Now you got me off track
A few months have passed since the news of Loki joining the team. Everyone was starting to warm up to the God while Loki was starting to understand and appreciate things here on Earth or from what they call ‘Midgard’. By the first month of Loki staying with us, Tony realized that he wasn't going to do anything so he removed the cuffs off Loki’s wrist but warned him that if he did do anything he's dying in an instant.
I was still tasked to watch Loki, not that I mind. Though throughout these months we started to get to know each other even more. We started to get closer and closer making me more comfortable with him.
We spend most of our time at the library reading. I would show him my favorite books while he would tell me his. We would also talk and get to know each other even more.
We were at the library comfortable silence surrounded us. Just us enjoying each other's company.
I was halfway through my book completely invested in the story when I felt eyes burning on my skin. Knowing very well that Loki was staring at me I decided to ignore it, he was probably just zoning out.
A minute later I looked up to see Loki still looking at me as he leaned back at his chair, arms crossed on his chest and the book he was reading was now closed. Sighing I marked the page I left off “you know staring at people without them knowing is creepy” I said now looking back at him.
He propped his elbows on the table his hands now supporting his face as he leans into them gawking at me “oh, you didn't know I was staring at you?” he said with a smirk.
My heart started to beat really fast which startled me. It was like the first time feeling my heart again. I froze on my seat still looking at him with my eyebrows now furrowed. A weird sensation in my stomach started to fill me up.
“You look gorgeous when you blush angel”
There it is. A heart attack. I felt like I was having a stroke. Was I dying?
“Stop doing that” averting my eyes to the book in front of me. I started to read again but the words were not making sense for me for some reason.
“Doing what angel?” he asks
“That” I slammed my book shut my face feeling hot to the touch.
He stood up and moved to the chair right next to me, he leaned his face close to mine examining my face carefully.
“Why do you keep pushing me away?”
No. I can’t. I can’t be feeling this away again. This won’t help me in any way. It’s all happening again, it’s happening very fast. Fear spread across my body. I start to shake my head unknowingly “no. This is not supposed to happen. I can't” I grabbed my book and started to walk out of the library before I could even reach the door Loki was already in front of me.
“Do what? What's not supposed to happen?” he continues to push as he grabs both my arms. “This. Whatever this is. It can't, I was doing so well without you. You can't come in and ruin that” I replied now shaking tears treating to spill out of my eyes.
Memories start to replay in my head making me breathe heavily.
“Make me understand.” he slowly walks me to the table we were at earlier.
“Read my mind” I simply answered him looking at him pleadingly. For some reason I trusted him. I trusted him to see what happened. I trust him.
He looks at me asking for confirmation which I nodded in reply. He grabs me and carefully sat me on his lap, his hands wrapped around my waist as my hands automatically wrap around his neck. “I’ll be careful— I promise” he slowly pressed a gentle kiss on my forehead resulting in me closing my eyes. A cold hand pressed on my forehead and the next thing I know was memories came flooding in.
“What do you mean Nate?” I begged as I continued to grab onto him crying my eyes out.
“Wasn’t it clear enough for you? Do you want me to tear your little heart out again? Okay, I said I have been cheating on you this entire time. I don't love you in the slightest bit and I used your power in S.H.I.E.L.D. to get me the promotion and position of my dreams. Oh, and I used you for sex.” he chuckles as he packs his belongings. He found out he was promoted and just like that he was leaving me.
He got what he wanted.
As he packs he continues to call me names and tell me how pathetic I was. “You were so desperate for love, it made you oblivious” He walks up to me as he looks at my crying and shaking form.
“Who would love a freak like you?” Then he left as I felt on the floor shaking and vulnerable. Broken and numb. Freak. Freak. Freak.
Tears continued to fall, as I opened my eyes Loki gazes at me with a sad look on his face. “I’m so sorry, I shouldn't have done that” he caresses my face and wipes my tears away. “No, it's fine. You deserve to know” I buried my head on the nook of his neck as I continued to cry. Loki tightens his grip on my waist and gently caresses my hair. “I’m scared” I voiced out for the first time.
“I’m scared of getting myself hurt again Lokes” he smiles at me and kisses my forehead, then my nose, then he started to kiss the tears away. The butterflies woke up from their slumber and started their flight once again.
“You don't have to be with me if you don't want to. I have never felt this way, and I know it's real. But if it makes you feel uncomfortable then I'll back away. We’ll stick to being friends okay? I'll stop.” he answers as he continues to rock me back and forth whispering sweet nothings onto my ears.
“That’s the problem, I'm scared because I don't want you to stop.”
I've never been this scared before
Feelings I just can't ignore
Don't know if I should fight or fly
But I don't mind
Tripping, falling with no safety net
Boy, it must be something that you said
Is it real this time or is it in my head?
With that said. We tried. He told me we didn't have to but I insisted. I was scared yes, but I couldn't let my past control me no matter how frightening it was.
It has been weeks since Loki has started to court me. The team did not mind, they were actually happy that I was finally moving on, they were also not surprised that Loki was the one courting me.
Loki had been nothing but a gentleman. He was showing me his magic and at the same time teaching me how to control mine.
On our first date, he made an illusion on my room to make it look like Asgard. He told me stories he and Thor had ventured upon when they were children. He also showed me the enormous library they had.
“When we can, I'll take you there and you can read all the books you want.”
Since Tony wouldn't let Loki out of the compound until the next month, most of our date was inside the compound. On the following dates, Loki told me he wanted to learn more about Midgardian things and cultures. So we spent the time in my room, I taught him about the internet and it was the most entertaining thing ever.
“This is preposterous. I did not give birth to an eight-legged horse”
Loki made me comfortable with my past and with my own skin. He made sure I was treated well and made sure to remind me that I was more than enough and that I was not a freak.
We had moments where we would just cuddle up to each other and talk. Sometimes we would watch movies, but we mostly talk over that as well.
We were watching Despicable Me late at night. The lights were dimmed and I was nuzzled on top of his chest as his hands were wrapped tightly onto my torso afraid I'll disappear.
Loki had his eyes on me the entire movie his gentle fingers caressing my face and playing with my hair from time to time. “You’re so beautiful” he whispered under his breath. His breath was taken by the sight of you. He never gets tired of the sight of you. When he first saw you he knew you were different, he fell that fast.
He was furious when he found out what your ex did to you. Your crying figure replays in his head you were so fragile and broken it physically hurt him.
He made sure you were treated with respect.
He treated you like a princess and he promised himself he’ll make you one someday.
Every day he’ll tell you how beautiful you are. He’ll never get tired of saying that. Never.
“Stop saying that” I answered looking up at him.
He carefully uses his finger to guide your chin upwards. He wanted to see your eyes clearly.
“I’ll never stop saying that you're absolutely gorgeous inside and out.” caressing your left cheek making you lean into the touch closing your eyes.
He leans in and slowly his soft lips touch yours. All I heard were ringing in my ears. I felt like I was floating. His kiss was gentle and passionate at the same time. As he leans back he looks at me in the eyes and whispers “so beautiful princess”
Loki, the God of Mischief broke down the walls I carefully built. He had awoken the butterflies in my stomach. He helped me pick up the remaining pieces of my heart and carefully built it like a puzzle. He willingly gave me his heart for me to keep. He made me feel loved. He filled my heart with happiness that it hurt in a good way. He protects me and respects me as a human being. He loved me with all his heart. He is the one who stole my heart. He was the one waiting under the tall cliff that I fell off on.
He was my safety net who caught me when I fell...
“I love you.”
Got me tripping, falling with no safety net

“Stop firing! I surrender! Take me but please leave my friends alone!” “Y/N, what the hell are you doing?!” Dekes panicked voice came through the comms and your heart immediately sunk. You closed your eyes and blinked away the tears that were threatening to fall. Two figures walked towards you and knocked you out with the butt of their gun, whilst another talked through their comms to alert the others of the situation.
One of them picked you up and carried you away towards their ship right before Daisy came running through the corridor. She began to send out blasts towards the enemies but she was too late. Her eyes went wide when she seen your unconscious body in their arms. “Y/N!” She began to run towards the ship but it took off right as she got to the entrance.
She looked around and seen May on the floor, unconscious. Racing to her side, Daisy placed her finger on her comms and sent out a message. “Guys, May’s down. I’ll bring her back with me but…. They’ve got Y/N.” Her head hng low as those last words came out of her mouth. She gathered May in her arms and carried her out of the base.
Tumblr media
On the other side of the comms Deke was walking back and forth across the ships floor, the severity of the situation completely taking over his senses. “Why would Y/N give herself up like that? How could she let that happen to herself?!” He began raking his hands through his hair, frustration and panic evident on his face.
Coulson stepped forward and placed a calming hand on his shoulder. “I’m sure she had a good reason for doing what she did. The main thing that we need to do now is find her and take out those HYDRA agents.” Deke nodded his head and took a deep breath to calm himself. He needed to keep a level head if he wanted to save you.
Daisy and May soon returned to the ship, a little battered and bruised, but they were OK. May had woken up and was raring to go, as usual. Coulson gathered the whole team and began to talk through the plan. Luckily, your suit had a tracking implant in it, so Fitz and Simmons easily found your location. The team gathered their gear whilst Mack flew the ship to your location.
As Deke was readying up, his thoughts began to wander. He didn’t want to live this life anymore, a life where you could easily get hurt, or worse. He wanted to keep you safe and protect you from the dangers of the world. He understood that you loved being able to save the world, but if this has taught him anything it’s that life is too precious. He wanted to make the most of his life with you. You are the most important thing to him and he wanted to keep you with him, always. Once he made his final decision, he marched towards Coulson and whispered the plan in his ear. Coulson looked Deke straight in his eyes with a disappointed look but also understanding why Deke was doing this.
With Coulson’s approval, Deke sat down and waited to march into battle to save the woman that he loved.

Tumblr media
Screams erupted from your body as the agent pierced your skin once again. Wounds and bruises littered your skin as your torture continued. They wanted information on Coulson and SHIELD’s plans, but you were never going to give them what they wanted.
“WHERE IS COULSON?!” The agent twisted the knife that was lodged in your shoulder which caused you to whimper in pain. You took a deep breath to mask the pain and looked the agent dead in the eyes. “Go fuck yourself!” The agent raised his hand and slapped you across the face, causing your head to whip to the side. The agent marched back towards the tray of torture devices and grabbed a large pair of scissors and placed them against your fingers.
“Is your team really worth all this pain? Are you willing to lose your fingers for them?” “I’m willing to lose my life for them.” He began closing the scissor blades on your finger, streams of blood erupting from your skin, however gunfire interrupted his concentration and he whipped around to the sound of the commotion. “This isn’t over.” He rammed your gag back into your mouth and ran towards the entrance of the room, gun cocked towards the door.
The doors flew open and in walked Daisy and Deke. Daisy took care of the agent whilst Deke ran straight over to you, guilt all over his face. “Oh baby, what did they do to you?” He took the gag out of your mouth and cradled your face with his hands. You leaned into his touch and let out the tears that you had been holding on to.
Deke leaned his forehead against yours and kissed your lips softly. “You’re ok now, we’re here. I’m here. Nothings ever going to happen to you again.” He turned his attention to your bonds, careful not to injure you anymore. Gently, he picked you up in his arms and carried you out of the HYDRA base, the rest of the team following close behind. In between this, you fell unconscious from the amount of blood that you lost and the severity of your injuries.

Tumblr media
You woke up in the medical bay of the SHIELD ship. You looked around frantically but soon calmed down when you noticed Deke sitting beside you, sound asleep and grasping your hand tight. With your other hand, you ran your fingers through his hair to wake him up. Groggily he sat up and smiled when he seen you staring back at him.
“Hey princess, how you feeling?” “A little sore, but I’ll live.” Deke’s smile faded and was replaced with a serious expression, very uncommon for him. “Yeah, Y/N, but it could have been much worse. You could have died! What were you thinking giving yourself up like that?”
Your head tilted downwards a little. “I wanted to protect my team. We were surrounded. The only way to keep them safe was surrendering myself. It was the only way.”
“No, it wasn’t the only way! You could have called for backup! You didn’t need to put yourself in harms way for the team! Your life is worth more than that!” Your head shot up, an angry look on your face. “Well, what was I supposed to do? Let them kill us all?! Let them kill you?! I wasn’t going to let that happen! I love you too much to lose you!” Deke pressed his lips against yours, pouring all of his emotions into it.
Pulling away, he cradled your face in his hands and caressed your cheek with his thumb. “I love you to, Y/N, which is why I think we should leave the team. Let’s run away together, to a place far away. You will never have to put yourself in harms way ever again. I don’t think I could go through this again, watching the woman that I love sacrifice herself. Please, let’s get away from all this and start a normal life. Get married, have children, grow old together. That’s all I want.”
You stayed silent for a few minutes and let Deke’s words sink in. “Ok, Deke. Let’s go, right now.” Immediately, his face lit up with happiness. He placed a soft kiss on top of your head before running off somewhere unknown.

Tumblr media
You and Deke were standing hand-in-hand in front of the whole team, bags at the bottom of your feet. All eyes were on the both of you, confused and inquisitive. “Alright guys, we have some big news.” You took a deep breath to calm your nerves. “Me and Deke have decided to leave the team. If the recent situation has taught us anything, it’s that life is too short. I nearly died on the last mission and I can’t risk my life anymore. I want to be able to live out the rest of my life with the man that I love. I hope you guys can understand this.”
The rest of the team looked at each other before looking back at you with large smiles on their faces. “of course we understand, Y/N. What you did for us was extrodianary and we cannot thank you enough for everything.”
They walked towards you both and engulfed you into a group hug. Tears were spilled and smiles were given before it was time for you and Deke to depart to your new life. To say you weren’t scared was an understatement, but you were also excited for what your new life was going to bring.

❥ i-land (theme song)
⤷ ellie and the 12 other applicants of i-land are introduced to their very first performance mission.
⤷ word count: 3.3k+
⤷ warning: this is all purely fictional, none of the arguments and conflicts within this series is a true reflection of the trainees. everything you read is made up from my pea-sized brain.

Tumblr media
ellie was somehow coping...she made new friends! there was this one trainee named sunghoon who she became close to after bonding over their love for skating and then there was nicholas, who she found really entertaining. she was relaxing on her bed talking to jake when the alarms started ringing, “in 10 minutes, we will reveal the first test.” she shoots up, “we just got here...” she sighs and rushes out the door, pulling jake along with her. the other i-landers were rushing to the main room.
jake and ellie reach the mission room, sitting in chairs right beside each other. as the i-landers fill up the space, the big monitor in front of them plays a video, “that’s sick.” ellie whispers. “from now on, you have a common destiny.” ellie raises her eyebrows in anticipation. “for the four tests to come, you’ll be collectively responsible for every result.” ellie runs a hand through her hair. “the average of individuals’ scores will be the team’s score, that result will determine the number of people to be eliminated from the i-land.” the screen shows a table and ellie's mouth gapes open in shock. so what she’s seeing is, if they get anything below a 96, it guarantees an elimination...the boys beside her all gasp. “it means, everybody should get a high score for many people to stay in the i-land.” she furrowed her eyebrows. “so we all have to do well.” a trainee by the name of geonu says, “if one person does bad, it impacts everyone else.” ellie adds, the trainees around her nod their heads in agreement. “...and for the elimination.” ellie’s breath hitched, “you’ll be decided by yourself.” she groans and buries her face in her hands. “now, for determining the destiny of the collective on i-land, the first test is going to be revealed.” ellie’s eyes go wide. part of herself feels excited at the thought of their very first performance, but the other part...mhm...not so much. the screen changes and on it read the words ‘signal song’. she cocks her head in confusion. immediately, a video starts playing and the first beats of the song are heard, “oh my, it’s a song just for us!” she yelps excitedly. one side of the screen read the lyrics and the other side played the choreography. “wah...” speechless, that’s how she felt. after witnessing the entirety of the first ever song, ellie claps her hands in amusement. “i love it!” she yells, throwing her hands up. the boys laugh at her reaction. seon takes the lead, yet again, after the trainees calm down. he explains which parts get the most lines and center time, as well as those that don’t get as much. “parts 8-13 only go once.” jay mentions. she bites her lip, feeling the sweat build up on the crook of her neck. she felt anxious. she could not get any part more than a 7, she just couldn’t. analyzing the lyrics more, ellie falls deep in thought. “hey.” jake snaps her out of her thoughts, “you ok?” she nods her head, “what do i do?” she gets anxious thinking about the choosing of parts, “you’ll be fine, don’t worry about it.” jake turns his body to face her, “whatever part you get, i know you’ll shine.” he smiles and she instantly relaxes, “thanks jake.” she smiles at him, the apples of her cheeks on full blast. “from now, decide the signal song’s part.” ellie sighs, “you can change the part at any time.” she darts her eyes around the room, analyzing others’ reactions, “this test will begin in 7 days.” she gasps, “7 days?!” she turns to jake, “that’s barely enough time, my god.” the countdown appears on the egg and her heart drops to her feet. the trainees around her all exclaim, “they weren’t kidding huh.” jake says and ellie laughs, she’s losing her mind. “then what should we do first?” asks daniel. seon answers him right away, once again taking the lead. jay follows up soon after, “i think first, we need to sing...because the center has to hit all those high notes.” the conversation flows on and ellie blanks out, only nodding her head every now and then. heeseung decides to speak up after noticing the state of the conversation, suggesting the idea of learning the main choreography, first, then coming back together as a whole to decide the parts. everyone nods their heads in agreement. jake and ellie decide to head back to their room, where they are met with a few trainees, one being ni-ki. “what part are you going for ellie?” he asks in japanese, “i don’t know...anything below a 7 would be fine, i guess.” she responds back, “i’ll just go with the flow.” ni-ki nods his head, “i want part 1.” he says, switching back into korean. “don’t we all...” ellie sighs and flings her body onto the soft mattress of the bed. it’s been a few hours since the first test was announced and both ellie and ni-ki had already learned 80% of the choreography, focusing on the chorus. the trainees watch in awe. “ni-ki! ellie!” k yells in surprise. “they’re so good.” sunghoon mentions soon after. ellie smiles as the applicants clap them on. finishing up, she turns to face ni-ki and they give each other a high five, feeling exhilarated by the sudden compliments. “why are you guys so good?” sunghoon asks the two. ellie thanks him and with sass, flips her hair over her shoulder, ending it with a wink. the trainees pretend to fall over at her cute action and she laughs. the trainees were gathered in the dance room, once again, all deciding on parts for the signal song. the discussion was led by heeseung, who she has been wanting to get close to after seeing his performance during the entrance test. ellie drowns the voices out, deciding to tune back in after she calms herself down. “so, let’s take audition voluntarily and get judged by us.” was the first sentence you heard as you bring yourself back into reality, “so we are voting again?” heeseung (half-jokingly) says, “no, not the voting!” sunghoon pleads and the rest laugh. ellie smiles and looks down. “i think we should decide everything today.” heeseung says. “i agree, i think it’s better if we get all the parts down today so that we’ll have more time to prepare for the actual performance.” ellie speaks for the first time in, what felt like, an eternity. the trainees hum in approval. heeseung helps plan out the rest of the week, deciding on learning everything for the first two days and then perfecting it after the two days were up. “hands up if you want to do part 1.” the audition process starts for the parts. the trainees all look at each other in anticipation, feeling out the air. “should i count to five?” daniel asks after realizing no one had raised their hands up. the young boy starts his countdown and by the end, still no hands up. ellie’s heart rate quickens, she wants it...she wants it so bad. she bites her bottom lip. “then, does anybody want to recommend someone?” ellie looks around as the trainees agree with heeseung’s idea. both sunghoon and youngbin gain the applicants’ attention as they raise their hands up. sunghoon shyly points his hand towards heeseung, “i recommend heeseung!” he says, shooting finger guns at him. ellie wasn’t going to lie, in her heart she knew heeseung had what it takes to completely own the stage...but she wanted to prove herself. she snaps out of her thoughts with the sound of laughter. “he said it, and he can’t control how he feels.” she overhears. ellie looks around the circle, her eyes landing on the boy next to her, ni-ki. “hey, you ok?” she whispers, nudging him a bit. “if you want part 1, go for it.” she encourages him with a wink and he musters up a smile, “heeseung gets part 1!” ellie snaps her head to look back into the circle, “oh.” she sighs in defeat. ‘stupid. you should’ve raised your hand up.’ she mentally slaps herself on the head. the whole ‘choosing parts’ process took way longer than what ellie had hoped. she ended up landing a spot on part 2a, part 2b going to geonu. she was more than satisfied with her parts, but part of her still wanted that stupid part 1. “ta ta ta.” heeseung keeps the beat for the other trainees as they practice their dance, ellie follows along smoothly, having already memorized the whole dance a few minutes prior to when heeseung decided to take the lead. looking to her left, she notices a struggling jake and youngbin, her eyes immediately softening. she taps the two on the shoulders, “need help?” she asks and they both exhale, “yes please.” jake says. she pulls the two away from the bigger group to help them get a one on one practice, adhering to their pace. “perfect!” ellie smiles and claps at the two, finally finishing the dance, “youngbin, for this move,” quickly demonstrating, “try extending your arms out more to make it look cleaner...and after that, i think you’re all set!” she smiles, the apples of her cheeks becoming very prominent. youngbin bows towards her, “thank you ellie. this means so much.” he says with a dramatic tone. ellie giggles and pats his back, “of course, kind sir.” jake laughs first, ellie and youngbin follow immediately after. “should we do freestyle?” ni-ki suggests, “daniel can beatbox!” nicholas points at the young boy as he starts a beat. the i-landers were in the practice room taking a short break after practicing for hours on end. “shall we start? whichever bpm.” ni-ki says. ellie looks around with a glint in her eyes. “you should go up.” jake nudges her, “absolutely not, i’m scared.” she yell-whispers. jay is the first one up, “hey jay! hey jay!” the trainees start chanting. he rides the beat slowly and immediately starts showing off his dance steps, “oh!” ellie exclaims, waving her arms around. ni-ki is next, stepping out with a few flashy moves. the i-landers all exclaim, “wah ni-ki!” ellie yells, clapping her hands. he finishes off with a pose and everyone falls to the ground in excitement. “ellie...” jay suddenly starts, “ellie! ellie!” the chanting grows stronger while ellie gets flustered, “uh...i shouldn’t” she scratches the back of her neck, “ellie! ellie!” next to her, jake smiles, “c’mon!” ellie sighs and smirks, “alrighty then.” daniel changes the beat and her demeanor changes. stepping out, riding the beat, she starts off with a bit of popping. showing off every dance style she knows, the i-landers all yell to hype her up. feeding off of the energy in the practice room, she finishes off with a pose, “oh my god!” they all yell and come closer to her. nicholas lifts her up and they all start chanting her name, “what is happening?!” she laughs. the boy puts her down, “you’re amazing!” nicholas pats her head and she thanks him. “you never said you could freestyle?” ni-ki says with a smile, “well, the topic never got brought up...so...” she shrugs. the mood was tense as the trainees sat down, waiting to show off what they’ve learned in the little time that they were given. earlier that day, someone was arguing about the choreography, she wasn’t there to completely witness everything because she was getting water, but when she came back, everyone had a gloomy look on their face. jungwon was up first, performing perfectly even after the little time they had to practice. she’s always admired the boy, he was very talented and they were the same age, but she’s been too scared to strike up a conversation with him. he finishes off and the trainees clap, “you did well!” k compliments him. like always, ellie blanks out, getting anxious at the thought of performing in front of everyone, especially when they’re all examining the smallest details. it’s not like she doesn’t know she’ll do well, she knows she can pull it off, but she was still nervous. “ellie, you’re up!” heeseung says. the girl slowly arises from her seat, jake cheering her on. she looks around and makes eye contact with ni-ki, who mouths a, “fighting!” she smiles and mouths a thank you back. she gets to her starting position and the music starts. her body flows with the music effortlessly, completely ridding her mind off of all the thoughts that run recklessly in her brain. “that was amazing!” heeseung exclaims. she bows and calms her breathing. ni-ki whispers something to heeseung and ellie’s heart race quickens, “just say it out loud.” heeseung encourages ni-ki, “that was the best performance yet.” he quickly says, looking down. ellie smiles and bows again, “thank you!” the trainees cheer her on as she sits down next to jungwon, “you’re really good.” he compliments her. she blushes, “you too!” the silence between the grows larger, “um...2004 right?” he suddenly asks. ellie nods her head, “september 3.” she adds on. jungwon nods, “february 9.” he says, smiling to himself. “im older!” he was quick about it. ellie rolls her eyes and the two have a hearty laugh. ellie learned a lot about the boy during the few minutes they had together. he used to do taekwondo and he really loves his grandma. oh! he also has this weird obsession with curry? anyways, ellie examined the boy while he was talking. he had doe like eyes, sparkling every time he’d talk about a topic he loved. he had deep, prominent dimples that would show up every time he spoke. he also does this (really cute) thing where he furrows his eyebrows every time he- “jake! you’re up!” ellie shakes her head to get rid of the thoughts, “go jakey!” she yells for support. clapping her hands she turns back to jungwon, “he’ll do great, i know he will.” jungwon nods and smiles... during jake’s performance, ellie notices ni-ki whispering something to heeseung. her anxiety shoots up and she bites her lips, “you ok?” jungwon asks from besides her, voice laced with worry as he notices her legs bounce up and down, “oh, it’s nothing, don’t worry about it.” ellie reassures him, smiling slightly. jake has been doing amazing, maybe even better than some of the other trainees. he finishes off his dance and waits in anticipation for feedback. “ni-ki thinks that jake’s performance was one of the best by far.” jake smiles and bows, breathing out in relief. ellie’s eyes widen and she claps excitingly for her friend. standing up, she runs over to him, attacking him with a bear hug, “i knew you’d do great, mate!” she says. jake laughs and pulls her down to sit. there has been so much tension surrounding i-land during the past few days and ellie had no clue what was going on, resorting to keeping to herself and eating every once in a while. back in the dance practice room, seon whispers something to k and the next thing she knew, they were all gathered on the steps of the entrance. she looks down at her fingers, playing around with them. “i know that i’m not good and all,” youngbin musters up the courage to start, “i was ok with dancing in groups of two...” he stops to take a breath, “but heeseung made us dance one by one, i understand why you needed to see us one by one, i felt horrible and was really humiliated.” ellie’s breathing hitched, “if i’m being honest, i cried...i cried.” he sighs, finally expressing his feelings. an uneasy air filled the room, “we shouldn’t be worrying right now.” heeseung starts, ellie’s head turns towards him, “if we voted for someone to lead us, then we should trust and follow that person...we’re running out of time.” ellie felt for both sides. she knew how youngbin felt, the dreading feeling of having to perform in front of many people when he wasn’t ready to, but she also saw where heeseung was coming from. it was a bit unfair, you know? from ellie’s eyes, it seemed like they were blaming heeseung for everything...but she knew in her heart that he just wanted what was best for the team, it may have come off as a bit aggressive, but he was trying his best, giving up most of his own practice time to help the rest of the trainees. she witnessed him the other day, alone in the small corner room, looking distressed, but she decided to leave him be. “it’s fitting that heeseung is in the center, but you’re really good and you keep hanging out with those who are good, so the team’s balance is off...that’s what i personally.” daniel adds on. “i said this the first day, i predicted this...” heeseung nods his head and ellie’s eyebrows rise, “so on the first day, i said i didn’t want to be center. i knew it would result in this so that’s why i said that.” the boy starts biting his nails, a habit that ellie noticed he did every time he felt anxious, “it’s not about completing the choreography, but it has to look good...i wanted to lead you that way, but i didn’t tell you in advance, and planned on my own and got ahead of myself.” he admits, “i personally think that it’d be best if i’m not the center.” heeseung looks down at his lap, forfeiting his role as the center. everyone looks at him in shock, including ellie, “i really mean it.”  after a long meeting, ni-ki gets part 1 as the new center, while heeseung takes part 10. heeseung smiles at the young boy and slowly excuses himself from the room. ellie notices from afar and excuses herself as well.  carefully following the boy, her heart rate quickens. they both reach the corner room together, “hey ellie.” he says, turning around to smile at her, “wanna talk about it?” heeseung takes a seat, grabbing a cushion, “actually, could you just stay here with me?” ellie’s eyes widen and she quickly agrees, taking the empty seat next to him. “would you mind?” he says, gesturing to her shoulder, “oh, not at all!” he places his head on her shoulders and sighs. the silence was deafening. ellie wraps her arms around his head, ever so gently rubbing his beanie as a way to comfort the boy. that’s when the tears started. ellie’s eyes soften immediately and she looks up, trying not to let the tears spill, a tactic she learned from the last time, “it’s so hard, ellie.” heeseung says in between sobs, “i know, i know it is, but everything will work itself out, you did an amazing job.” hearing her words of encouragement made heeseung cry more, “shh, it’s alright, let it all out.” she rubs his shoulders. the two stayed in each other’s comforting presence for a good amount of time. the day had come, the countdown was getting closer and closer to 0, ellie was so anxious. “ellie! you look amazing!” jake compliments the girl, “same goes for you!” they laugh. “ellie and jake! let’s take a pic together!” heeseung calls the two over and ellie happily obliges.  they all had their mics on and ellie felt absolutely nauseous, but she held it down for the sake of the performance. she goes to the corner of the room to warm up her voice some more, “i-landers, please report to the stage.” ellie’s face drops. she grabs jakes hands and he squeezes it, “you’ll do great, mate.” ellie smiles at him, “the same goes for you, mate.” alright ellie, you got this.

Jason ‘J.D.’ Dean x Reader
Words: 1819
Part One
Summary: Preparing to run away together, J.D. and the reader hit a problem in their plan. J.D.’s father. Things take a turn and J.D. has to decide if this new feeling of love is real enough to die for.
Notes: I know I took forever to write this and I’m sorry! I’m ashamed of how much I love J.D. but here we are. Same as the first part. This has been sooooo much fun to write and I hope that you guys like it! (Again, if you’re at all uncomfortable just skip this)
Warnings: Murder (duh), sex (not smut, but definitly more than I’ve ever done before), language, same as the first part
More 80s/90s: HERE
-
The backseat of your mother’s car was not ideal for this kind of celebration, but you couldn’t wait to get back to the house, so you found a spot in the forest to pull over. J.D.’s face was buried in your neck and your fingers were tangled up in his black hair. He was in a particularly good mood.
The cops fell for it. Both murders were covered up perfectly. Tommy’s was ruled a suicide and he would forever be remembered as the school pervert. Nobody was surprised by your mother’s death and it was quickly written off as an overdose. The only thing left was to pack. The two of you were getting out of this fucking little town and you were never looking back.
Pressed together like this, you knew that you didn’t give a shit what happened if it wasn’t with him. Looking into your eyes, J.D. reached a similar conclusion. You were what he wanted. He couldn’t remember the last time he wanted something.
“Where do you think we’ll go?” You asked, situating yourself on top of his chest. He shrugged.
“Anywhere.”
You settled into a comfortable silence, his fingers lightly drumming on the small of your back. This was actually happening. For the first time in your life you didn’t feel trapped. You could do whatever the hell you wanted. You had gotten away with two murders for fuck’s sake. You were invincible.
-
J.D. felt different. Hell, he was feeling, which was a different sensation on its own. He fell back onto his bed with a grin on his face. It wasn’t that someone had broken through the ice. It was more like he had found someone drowning underneath the frost just like him.
“Hey dad, how was your day?” His dad asked sarcastically, popping his head in the doorway. J.D. didn’t even look up and his dad didn’t stay long enough for a response. It was more of a routine than actual affection. In just a few hours, it wouldn’t matter anyway. His dad could blow himself up for all he cared. He would be long gone.
He eventually figured that he needed to start packing. He shoved his motorcycle keys in his pockets with a sigh. He’d have to sell it. The two of you would be taking your mom’s old car so you’d have somewhere to sleep, so his motorcycle would have to go.
“The things I do for love.” He snarked to himself. When he opened his drawers, he found them all empty. “What the hell?” All of them were empty, his clothes were nowhere to be found. He stepped into the hall and saw the pair of suitcases at the bottom of the stairs.
“I packed everything up for you while you were gone.” His dad walked by them, looking up the stairs at him. J.D. shrugged.
“Convenient, but why?”
“We’re finally moving out of this shit hole town. On to sunny Florida!” He had that smile on his face that he usually used to appeal to businessmen and other corrupt assholes. J.D. just laughed.
“Well isn’t that just perfect timing?” He bounded down the steps with his chaotic grin plastered on his face. “Looks like we are finally parting ways, son.” His dad faltered.
“What?”
“Goodbye, adios, adieu.” J.D. grabbed his suitcase and started back up towards his room. “Soon, I will be out of your hair forever. You can go on with your life of bombs and demolition and I will go on with my own kind of destruction.” He pat his dad on the head, ruffling his hair like a normal father would his normal son.
“Jason, you can’t just leave.” Bud’s smile strained. “We’re a team, you and I.” J.D. stopped suddenly and laughed.
“Team? Sorry dad, but the only thing we even know about each other is our love of all things explosive.”
“This is about that girl, isn’t it? The slutty one you’ve been fucking around with since we moved here.” He shook his head, chuckling deeply. “You’ll get bored with her soon enough, so don’t bother.” J.D. just smirked smugly.
“Thanks for the advice there, pops, but I think I can handle my slutty girlfriend all on my own.” He started to close his bedroom door, but his dad put his foot in the way.
“You don’t get to leave like she did, boy.”
“The fuck are you talking about?”
“I’m not making that mistake again, J.D.” A creepy, maniacal smile spread across Bud’s face. Fuck, I thought I was the only psycho in the family. “Just stay here and I’ll do what I do best.” He moved his foot and slammed the door shut. J.D. heard something scratching and scraping on the other side and quickly tried to get out.
“You locked me in here with a chair? Seriously!” He screamed through the wood. No response. “Motherfucker.” He paced back and forth plotting a very bloody demise for dear old dad when he heard the squealing of tires outside his window. “Where the hell is he going?”
Wherever it was, J.D. wasn’t going to be kept out of it. He tried kicking down the door, but that didn’t work. The only way out of the room was the window, but there was nothing to climb down and he was on the second floor. J.D. unlocked the latch and lifted up the window pane, looking out to see just how far of a drop it was. He’d live.
 Without hesitation, he jumped.
“Fuck!” He shouted, pain shooting up his leg from his ankle. He fell to the ground, but was able to get himself on his feet. His foot hurt like a bitch, but he could bare it enough to walk to his motorcycle.
He was at your house in less than ten minutes, breaking every traffic rule in the book. He didn’t care, he just wanted to get out. Limping his way up the sidewalk, he found that your front door was already open.
“Time to go, Y/N. Grab your stuff and let’s get out of here!” He shouted, but the house was empty. Just the strong stench of death and booze that your mother had left behind. Mother. He remembered his dad’s comment and felt a chill. Do what he does best. “Oh shit.” He took off again, heading for his father’s next destruction sight before you became part of it.
-
You spat, hitting him in the eye as he finished cuffing you to the old hospital bed frame. Bud grabbed you by the hair and slammed your head into one of the metal bars. You didn’t give him the satisfaction of crying. Instead you just glared at him through squinted eyes.
“He’s going to come get me.” You smirked, trying to get the blurriness in your version to clear. “J.D. is going to tear you apart you sick bastard.”
“You can call me all the names in the book, kid, but my son is coming with me.” He tightened the cuff so that it dug sharply into the skin of your wrist.
“When did you become the ‘world’s best dad’?” You scoffed.
“Do you know how much more lenient a judge can be when I’ve got a poor, disturbed teenage boy who depends on me for a living?”
“So he’s just a legal bargaining chip for you? How sweet.” You pulled against your restraints until the metal broke skin. Blood oozed from your wrist and Bud laughed.
“Really, Jason couldn’t have picked a better girl for the job. You’re the most disposable person in this town. No family, no friends, no one to report you missing.” He strapped the main bomb to the other end of the bed and started the timer. “And there will be nothing left of you once this does it’s job.”
“Go to hell.”
“Lady’s first.”
You stared at him, wandering if he was the last person you’d ever see. God, that’d be the real tragedy here. You looked at the timer on the bomb. Less than three minutes. Bud noticed you looking and chuckled.
“I wouldn’t get any ideas. If that one doesn’t go off, there are three more upstairs.” He pointed to the ceiling and then made the motion of it caving in with his hands.
“You’re enjoying this to a creepy level, Mr. Dean.” You snarked. If you could piss him off, maybe he wouldn’t get out in time. At least then you’d take him out with you. “What, does blowing up 18-year-old girls get you off or something? Is that why your wife killed herself?” He tensed and balled his hand into a fist.
“You think you’re really cute, don’t you, you little bitch?”
“No, but your son does.” You smiled sarcastically. Bud just rolled his eyes and turned to leave, meeting the barrel of a gun.
“Hey there, son.” J.D. growled. Bud held up his hands.
“Jason, I can-” The gunshot ripped through the small space, making your ears ring. As his dad’s body slumped to the floor, J.D. shrugged.
“Sorry, tiger, I’m not in the mood for a monologue.” He knelt in front of you, eyes darting to the timer on the other side.
“Jason Dean, knight in shining black trenchcoat.” You laughed, pulling again at the handcuffs. He moved over to his dad’s body, searching his pockets but coming back empty handed.
“Shit.” He muttered under his breath.
“What is it?”
“No key.” J.D. ran his fingers through his hair, switching his attention to disabling the bomb. Your face fell as the realization hit you.
“It’s no use. There are more upstairs that are going to go off even if this one doesn’t.” You slumped against the bed frame. His greenish gold eyes looked back at you and for a second you though you saw a hint of panic. You really did love him. “You should go.”
“What?”
“Get out of here, J.D. You don’t have much time.” You tried to keep calm, but your body was betraying you. Your arms were shaking and your face felt hot. You weren’t scared to die, but you were scared to die alone.
“You really think I’m just going to leave you here?” J.D. shook his head and sat on the edge of the bed frame. “Hate to break it to you, but you’re stuck with me now. Afterlife and all.”
“J.D…” You sighed. He silenced you with a hungry kiss.
“What did I say after we killed that douchebag ex of yours?” He pulled you closer, snaking an arm around your back. Your lips pulled up into a smile.
“Our love is God.”
“Our love is God.” He repeated, his eyes sparkling. This time, you pulled him in for the kiss and you stayed pressed together until-
Boom.

Chapter 24 Part 2
Stark Spangled Banner Masterlist // Main Masterlist
Tumblr media
July 2015
“You’re up early.” Steve said as he dropped onto the swinging chair besides his girl. It wasn’t even 6 am yet but she was sat outside on their patio “You ok?”
“Yeah.” she smiled at him, as he pecked her cheek, looking out over the dimly lit lawn area of the Newly Opened Avengers Facility which swept down to the banks of the Hudson. The Facility had been the product of one of Tony’s crazy brain farts not long after they had come back from Sokovia and had been remodelled in record time. Whilst some areas were still undergoing renovations, over 80% of it was complete. There had also been changes to their team too. Clint had headed home, the birth of his baby son- Nathaniel Pietro- prompting him to take indefinite paternity leave, all of them fully accepting this was his way of leaving everything behind for good. Thor had left earlier that morning, promising he would return for the Wedding, whenever they finally got round to setting a date. But they still hadn’t heard a thing from Banner and the jet was proving impossible to track. On the plus side, they invited Sam and Rhodey to join the team officially and both had gleefully accepted, along with Vision and Wanda. Lawson was now their chief Technician and Evans had joined the team too, which made Katie happy as she enjoyed their company.
It was starting to grow light, the first rays of sunlight were bouncing off the water to the West. He turned to look at his girl and watched her as she surveyed the river, feet tucked underneath her on the seat.
“No regrets?” he asked, and Katie could feel him studying her face as her mind wandered back to the conversation they’d had when Tony had first mentioned moving to a new base.
Look, Cap, we’re like a trouble magnet,“ Tony explained animatedly, "Wherever the Avengers are, trouble follows.”
“So - you’re suggesting we build another building?” Steve rubbed his neck and looked up at the blueprints Tony had now blown up against the wall.
“I’m suggesting we relocate, completely, leave the Tower to Stark Industries and build our own facility and expand.” Tony said, flipping through pictures with a sweep of his finger. “We have this this old warehouse upstate, good location, middle of nowhere.”
"Less chance of civilian damage.” Steve’s hands fell to the buckle on his belt.
“Full medical wing, Living quarters, as well as a bunch of extra spare apartments, for all the strays we keep accumulating, training arena, kitchen, cafeteria- satellite links- you name it, you got it.”
"How long will it take?” Steve asked and Katie tried not to sigh at the fact that her dream of a quiet life in a nice house in Brooklyn had just blown up in front of her face.
Tony looked affronted. “I’m a billionaire cap, it’ll take however long we say.”
Steve looked at Katie who simply shrugged at him, keeping her face passive.
“Have you two eaten?” she asked, changing the subject.
Tony shook his head as did Steve.
“I’ll fix you both something.” she turned and started moving towards the kitchen area.
“Not for me…” Tony said. “I’ve got a dinner reservation with Pepper at 8…” “Yeah, you might wanna get a move on then, seeing as its 7:30.” She shot over her shoulder as she turned and began pulling stuff out of the fridge to prepare dinner.
“What?” Tony glanced at his watch and frowned “Shit…fuck…”
“You kiss Pepper with that mouth?” Steve quipped back as Tony collected up his laptop and the blue-prints disappeared off the wall.
“FRIDAY why didn’t you remind me?” Tony groaned. “You never asked Boss…” The Irish lilt came back.
“I miss JARVIS…” Tony grumbled, the door clicking shut as he left.
Steve headed into the kitchen and stood for a moment watching his wife as she moved around, before he he headed over to her, his arms wrapping round her from behind.
“Are you okay, you know, with the idea of moving to a new facility?” Steve asked. “I know it’s not exactly the home you had in mind.”
“We’ll be together. That’s all that matters.” Katie shrugged, concentrating on her task- chopping a pepper up for the couscous salad she was making.
“I know but, I just worry sometimes. You deserve better, a quiet life.”
“Not sure we have a choice.”
“There’s always a choice.” Steve dropped a kiss to her cheek. “You got out of SHIELD, you could get out of this.”
“You know for a moment in Sokovia… “Katie placed her knife down and turned to face him. “I thought… well I thought we weren’t getting out of it alive. And It frightened me, I’m not gonna lie…”
She looked up at him and met his eyes. He knew the whole thing with Ultron and the final show down in Sokovia had shaken her, more than any other mission she’d been involved in. It served as a reminder exactly what is achievable with technology, how fragile humans are, how easily life and peace could be shattered. For that split second, when on that floating city she hadn’t seen a way out, she had genuinely thought their time was up. And her life with Steve cut short before it had even started.
“We stood there, on that rock and in that split second when it seemed everything was lost you know what I felt?” she looked at him and he waited for her answer “Relief. Relief that if we both went down, we did it together and I didn’t have to spend a single day without you…”
“Sweetheart…” Steve began but she carried on.
“I can’t sit by and simply wave you off on a mission wondering to myself if it’s the last time I ever see you. I hated doing that when I left SHIELD and I can’t do it anymore. You fight, I fight.” “So what if I quit?” Steve looked at her. “What if I gave you the life you deserve?” “You can’t quit, and I wouldn’t ask you to.” Katie shook her head, smiling a little. “The world needs The Avengers, and the Avengers need their Captain…” “And their Captain needs his girl.” Steve took a deep breath, his eyes flashing with something that looked to her a lot like worry. She sighed and ran her hands up his arms, bringing them to rest on his shoulders.
“And she’s not going anywhere…” Katie she assured him gently, standing on her toes to give him a peck
She knew the Avengers depended on Steve as their leader even more so now that Tony had said he was hanging up his Iron Man suits for good, choosing to manage and see over the running of the practical side of things instead of active combat. Ultron had really hit her brother hard, but whilst his way of dealing with it was to call it quits, Steve was the opposite. He wasn’t ready to leave this behind for a quiet suburban life. And if being with him meant Katie had to stay too, then so be it.
So, regrets?
“No” she said, taking his hand in hers as she lay her head against his shoulder. “None at all.”
He smiled to himself as her hand began to play with his, the fingers of her left hand gently tracing across his knuckles, the only evidence of her brutal beating last year was the slightly bent pinkie that no matter how much physio she had, she couldn’t extend it fully.  He still got a cold shiver when he thought about how close he had come to losing her. She sighed softly, and he looked down to see she was looking at their intertwined hands and then it struck him just how much he couldn’t wait to tie himself to her for the rest of his life.
“Let’s get married.” He whispered gently into her ear.
“I thought we already were.” She chuckled.
“No, I mean let’s do it. Let’s get a date set, the sooner the better. We were supposed to set one months ago and I don’t want to wait any longer.” “Is that what you want?” She looked up at him smiling.
He nodded “More than anything, Doll.”
“Alright. Let’s do it.” He grinned before his lips met hers, the kiss gentle and soft.
“Any ideas on where?” She asked. As a matter of fact Steve did, the idea had come to him a few days ago, but he wasn’t sure if she was going to go for it.
“Well…I errr…thought, maybe, perhaps we could look at the church my mom used to take me to when I was a kid.” He ran a hand through his hair “That is, if you wanted to.” “Steve that’s a lovely idea.” She smiled and he beamed down at her
“You think?” “Yeah. And I’ve been thinking, maybe, we could have the reception here, in the grounds.” she said, looking at him.
“Here?” Steve frowned, he’d assumed she’d want some kind of hotel booking downtown. But as she spoke, he soon realised that what she was saying made perfect sense, and was more them than any flash place they could hire.
“Think about it.” she said, “No security issues, no press, just us, our friends, family… we can get a marquee by the lake…” Katie paused. As a girl she’d always envisaged a huge, fairy tale wedding with hundreds of guests, in The Rainbow Rooms no less. But now, all she wanted was for those people who meant the world to them to be there to celebrate with them.
“Are you sure?” he asked. She nodded. “Never been so sure of anything in my life.”
“Then I’m fine with that.” He smiled, gently kissing her again.
“So you wanna go see this church?”  she asked.
“What now? It’s barely light…” “So?” she sat up “I’ll take you to IHOP on the way…” “Now you’re talking…”he grinned.
By the time they had showered, which Steve had suggested they do together, to save water and time (although by the time they had finished there was a lot more water and time used up than if they showered alone) and finally dressed it was gone eight, meaning they hit IHOP at just after half past. As they both stuffed their faces, excitedly talking about their clandestine wedding planning Katie was struck with just how young Steve looked. He was dressed casually in a Dodgers T-shirt, jeans, trainers and a baseball cap, his blue eyes sparkling with anticipation. He was excited.
The church was in a small neighbourhood in Brooklyn and Katie instantly fell in love with the place. St Augustine’s was an old red stone and brick built church with a tall spire. Very Gothic chic, which caught her attention instantly. As Steve climbed out of the car, a rush of memories hit him, the smells, the noises, the sights, everything. It was like he had stepped back in time as he saw his mother grasping his hand softly as she led him up the steps and through the heavy wooden doors. The last time he had set foot in this church, however, had been his mother’s funeral. But now, it was time for something happier.
Steve slipped his arm round Katie.
“What do you think?”
“It’s beautiful.” Katie said.
Before Steve had chance to reply, a voice with a faint Irish lilt spoke, causing them both to stand and turn to see the Priest walking towards them.
“Can I help you?”
“Yes, hi…” Steve smiled, shaking the priest’s hand “I’m Steve…”
“Rogers, yes I recognised you.” the Priest smiled “Pleasure to meet you Captain.”
Steve shook his hand before the Priest reached out to Katie
“So this would make you Miss Stark?”
“Hi.” she smiled, shaking his hand.
“Charmed…” The Priest smiled, his eyes twinkled as he looked at Katie and she instantly warmed to the man. He wasn’t as old as she had expected, maybe a few years older than Tony, the hair around his temples was greying and his eyes were lined but he had a kind smile.
“So what can I do for you?”
“Well, we…” Steve smiled at Katie before he looked at the Priest. “We’d like to get married here. As soon as we can.” The dark haired man smiled and beckoning for them to follow him to the back of the church “I’m sure we can manage that, let’s see what date’s we have free…”
After chatting to the priest, and settling on a date, Steve was taken by a wave of nostalgia and convinced Katie to drop into the small cemetery on the outskirts of Brooklyn. Weaving their way through the stones he finally stopped in between two well weathered ones, which contained the names of his parents. Crouching down he gently wiped away decades worth of grime and he bowed his head, his eyes wet.
“Hey ma.” He said softly, “brought someone to meet you.”
Katie felt the tears springing into her eyes as she crouched next to him, laying her head on his shoulder.
“She’d be so proud of you, Stevie” She said gently, “They both would”
“I hope so.” he said softly and she reached out to turn his head so he was looking at her.
“Baby, how could they not be?”
She gently kissed him before she stood up and made her way to the car, leaving him alone with his thoughts for 10 minutes or so before he came striding out of the yard, and climbed into the driver’s side.
“Could we, maybe update the stones?” he asked after a moments pause “I mean I didn’t have much money back then and I’d like them to have something a bit more, I dunno…” “Of course we can.” she said, tangling her fingers with his, bringing his hand up to her lips so she could kiss his knuckles “Of course we can.”
******
“31st August?” Natasha frowned. She was the first person after Tony who they told they had set a date.
Katie nodded.
“Seriously?”
“Yeah…”
“That’s like…well, it’s weeks away!”
“Look, just be grateful it wasn’t sooner. The priest originally offered us a date two weeks off which Steve was all for taking until I persuaded him to give us a bit more time.”
“You know you could have set this date months ago.” Natasha rolled her eyes “Yeah, I know. I mean it’s gonna be a bitch to organise. If only I had a really good almost sister-in-law and a best friend with amazing military like planning skills that could also double up as bridesmaids…” Katie said, eyeing her as they walked. Natasha stopped and turned to face her friend. “You mean…” Katie smiled at her and nodded “If you’re up for the job…”
“I’d be honoured…” she stuttered, before pulling her into a hug, which surprised her slightly but she returned it gladly. “I’ve never been a bridesmaid before.” “There is one condition…” Katie said looking at her “Can you get Wanda involved in the organisation too? Help her with something other than training or whatever…”
Nat smiled “Sure I can handle that.” Natasha’s response was nothing to the one she got from Tony when she asked him to give her away.
“You know you’re my dad in every way other than actually being my dad…” she said, her fingers on one hand playing with those on the other as she felt her eyes misting “There’s no other person I’d want to walk me up the aisle…” He instantly teared over and pulled her into a hug, not finding his voice for a good 30 seconds as he silently shed his tears over her shoulder.
“I’d be honoured…”he whispered softly, kissing her cheek.
Steve, however wasn’t having as much luck. Rhody, Clint and Sam all accepted his invitations to be Groomsmen (he sent one to Thor via Jane, who also accepted gleefully with a loud, booming phone call) but he was struggling really to decide who to ask as his best man.
His initial thought had been Tony, despite the fact the two of them bitched and bickered at one another, they were close, almost brotherly close. However, given that Tony was giving Katie away in his role as Father/Brother of the Bride that was out. The next obvious choice was Sam, but it all just felt wrong. He was struggling, coming to terms with the fact that his lifelong best friend wouldn’t be the one to do the job.
“I always thought it would be Buck by my side.” he said, looking out over the lawn as he was sat on the patio one evening with Katie, the pair of them with a beer in hand. “He was, is, my oldest friend.”
“Friendship isn’t about who you’ve known for the longest Steve.” Katie said, shrugging “It’s about who came into your life and never left your side.”
Those words had resonated within him, and he realised they made perfect sense. So in the end he did ask Sam, who accepted gleefully. Although when he caught him and Natasha huddled in a corner, looking at something on his phone one afternoon, the pair of them sniggering like a couple of naughty kids he started to wonder what on Earth he had started.
***** Katie sat in front of her mirror and did her hair and make-up before she shrugged on the pale pink jumpsuit she’d bought especially for that evening, slipped her feet into her heels and headed to the living room. It was now 6:30, but knowing Steve as she did, he would no doubt barrel through the door in the next 10 minutes, swearing the way he always did when no one else but she could hear him, shower and be ready to go in 15 minutes flat.
She sighed to herself, she’d had the best day today in a long time. It was the first day in ages she’d had off work and she’d managed to buy her wedding dress. Or should that be Tony had bought her wedding dress courtesy of Pepper and a black Amex.  Wanda and Nat had cruised down to Manhatten with he in the Champagne stocked limo, stopping to pick Pepper up on the way. Once in the boutique, it had taken them a while but Katie had finally settled on one, a gorgeous, sweetheart neckline Ivory A-line with lace detailing all-over the bodice which was decorated with crystals. The skirt flared into layer upon layer of tulle decorated with the same lace detailing and beading with the skirt extending into a layered train at the back.
Steve had also had a reasonably productive day. Given that he, Sam and Rhodey were planning on wearing their Military Uniforms for the wedding and that Thor was going to be in his best Asgardian dress gear this only left Clint and Tony to organise for the suits. Katie had already picked them, simple charcoal pinstripes with ivory and gold waistcoats and light blue ties (light blue, pale red and gold were their colours, being a less gaudy variation of red, white and blue which they had agreed on) so this meant all he had to do was sort a fitting for Clint and Tony.
It had been a lot easier than he had imagined, the store already having Tony’s measurements, (because of course he got all his suits from there) and they also had a sister branch about 30 miles from where Clint lived who could sort it for him. So with that done and completed by lunch time his attention had turned to the meetings he had with General Ross and Rhodey about a potential collaboration programme with some of the Armed Forces Specialists. Now he had one final stop to see how the New Recruits for the support team were getting on.
“Hey,“ Steve said as he strode into the training facility before he smirked and nodded over Sam’s shoulder "I’m assuming you told them to take five?”
A confused frown spread over Sam’s face as he turned to look behind him. Every single one of the recruits was standing right staring wide eyed at the Captain.
“Drills!“ Sam shouted “Or you’ll get another 10 laps of the compound!”
“You’ve taken to this training role far too easily.” Steve grinned at him.
“What can I say, I’m a natural born leader.” he grinned “S’up?”
“I’ve been going through the intel on the Cambodia job.” Steve said. “I know the authorities are insisting its some low times arms dealer thinking he can muscle in on someone else’s patch but something smells off.”
“That’s because it is.” Nat said, walking into the gym, tablet in her hand.
“You got something?” Steve asked and she nodded, handing him the item.
“Cross referenced the MO. Matches an attack on an Army Munitions factory in Calcutta. And one in Tayshet, Russia” she said “And this is the culprit.” Steve looked down at the photo up of a man in what looked like a White Hockey Mask.
“He’s calling himself Crossbones.” Nat said as Sam moved to look at the photo.
“Great…another rogue arms dealer.” Steve rolled his eyes.
Sam snorted “What kind of dumbass name is Crossbones?”
Steve sighed and looked at Natasha “We got any info on who he might be?”
“I contacted a few people.” Nat said vaguely. “One of my contacts came through and says he has something but will only speak in person.”
“How soon can we go?” Steve looked at her.
“I’ll talk to them, see what they say.” She said.
Steve nodded “Ok, well I don’t think it needs the full team so me and you will go, Sam you can hold the fort here. We should only be away for a day or two.”
Sam shrugged “You’re the boss.” “I’ll make a few calls, tell them to expect us.” Nat said. Steve nodded and she straightened up. “You talked to Katie?”
“Not since this morning why?” Steve looked at Nat.
“She got a wedding dress today.”
“She did?” Steve’s face softened just the way it did anytime someone referred to their wedding. “Hang on, am I allowed to know that?” “Think it’s pretty safe to know your future wife’s bought a wedding dress, you know, on account of the fact you’ll be getting married soon.” Sam snorted “You’re just not supposed to see it before hand.”
“How long did she take to pick it?” Steve looked at Natasha, a grin on his face. Natasha smirked back at him.
“Not that long, because I’d already rung and told them the type of thing she like so nothing she tried on was hideous to her. We were in there a couple of hours, then went for some lunch and did a bit more shopping.”
“Good.” Steve nodded. “She’s been working really hard recently so she deserved a day off. I feel like I’ve hardly seen her over the past few weeks with everything that’s been going on.”
Which reminded him, he couldn’t wait to take her out that night for a well overdue evening together. They’d both been so busy with setting up the compound, her business and he was looking forward to them both escaping the hustle and bustle. Which reminded him, he needed to go.
Nodding to the pair of them, smiling as Sam barked another order, he wandered into the corridor. It seemed a lot less busy than usual. Maybe everyone had taken an early finish for some reason, although he couldn’t think why for a Tuesday. He glanced at his watch and gave a start. “Shit…”
They weren’t taking an early dart, he was taking a late finish.
Katie was sat on the couch, shoes long since abandoned along with any hope that they were actually going anywhere, and was half way through a bottle of very expensive Pinot Grigio that she had bought for them to have once they got home by the time Steve blustered into the apartment.
“Shit, shit…baby I am so sorry!” he said, as Katie looked up, not even able to bring herself to be pissed off anymore, she’d been angry about half an hour ago. Now she was just disappointed. “The meeting with Ross and Rhodey took a bit longer and then something came up on the Cambodia thing” he continued, sighing “Time just got away from me.” he stopped as he drew level with the couch “You look gorgeous.” “Shame it was for nothing” She said, rolling her eyes, turning her attention back to the TV and the re-run of Friends she’d been watching but not paying attention to.
“We can still go…”
“There’s no way we’ll make it.” she said, pointing to the clock with her eyes “Its forty minutes into Manhatten and you need to change.” “I’ll call, push it back…” he said after a moment’s pause. “Just forget it.” she sighed “Honey…” he dropped to his knees in front of her “Don’t be like that…we can go for a drink or something.” “I’m not being like anything.” she snapped back. “You’re the one that told me to ready by seven, well I was…you on the other hand-”
“I know and I’m really sorry.” “I know.” she said, standing up “You said. Look, it doesn’t matter. Not like I had anything special to talk to you about or anything…”
“What do you mean?” He frowned, “What-“
“Like I said, it doesn’t matter.”
“Katie…” he sighed as he rose to his feet too.
“I’m going to get changed and take a dip in the hot-tub with the rest of this bottle of wine and a manuscript, might as well make the most of my spare time” she said, grabbing the ice bucket as she headed to the hallway “Your presence is not required.”
*****
“Uh oh, what you done?” Natasha asked as she walked into Steve’s office the next morning, finding him browsing delivery sites for flowers.
“Last night was supposed to be Date night.” He muttered with a sigh “I was late, and we missed our reservation. First time I’ve ever done that. Katie was not happy.” “So I suppose now isn’t a good time to as if you’re up for a trip to Russia tomorrow.” Nat said, and he let out a groan. Katie had hardly spoken two words to him all evening and this morning before she had left for her office at the other end of the compound. Today was Wednesday, one of the 2 days out of 5 she worked on SIP stuff during the morning, then trained in the afternoon, a way for her to keep her toes in with the Avengers training.
“You’re right, it’s not.” he said, “But she’s pissed at me anyway so…”
“You sure it’s just about date night?” Nat asked, “Not like her to get so annoyed over something like that, especially if, as you say, you’ve never done it before.” “Well like I said yesterday, this place has been taking up a lot of my time” He shrugged. “She’s probably feeling a bit neglected. It’s my fault completely.”
“Well instead of wasting money on flowers…” Nat said, nodding to his screen. “Go and find her now, take her somewhere for the afternoon. I’m supposed to be sparring with her in 15 minutes, we can reschedule.”
Steve hesitated. “What about…” “I can handle the arrangements for Russia.” Nat said, “Just go.”
Katie’s bad mood hadn’t got any better by the time she finished her work for the morning and it got even worse when she reached the door of the main gym area and paused as one of the new recruits, a girl called Jenny Allen, was midway through a full on bitch rant.
“Who the hell does she think she is anyway? I mean…” “She’s a damned good agent.” Evan’s voice cut her off “One of the best I worked with, one of the most outstanding snipers I know so…” “Yeah well she still shouldn’t just be allowed to dip into missions as and when? I mean, we all train our asses off and she just walks around, like she’s hot shit just because she was trained by some SHIELD legend when we all know the real reason she was pulled into SHIELD and the Avengers in the first place is because of her name…” “You’re out of line…” “And let’s face it, she’s only here now because she’s engaged to Cap, and owns half the gaff…”
“I mean, they are two pretty good reasons” Katie said, pushing the doors open and walking into the gym. She had to give Allen credit, she started bit but then recovered and stood tall.
“Katie, I…” Evans started but Katie cut him off. “It’s ok…she has an opinion, she’s entitled to it. Say what’s on your mind Allen.” “I just…” she took a deep breath “I don’t like the way you seemingly get to swan into missions, with little to no training like the rest of us. It’s dangerous.” “Dangerous?” Katie folded her arms over her chest.
“Yes, dangerous. You don’t know how we operate as a team, I mean are you still versed in hand to hand?” Versed? What the fuck?
Katie raised her eyebrow and smirked at Evans who instantly spotted the look on her face. Fuck this, she’d been waiting to give Allen a smack since she had caught her batting her eyelids at Steve, practically trying to climb him when he’d been running over a report with her. What better way was there to fix a bad mood?
“I tell you what.” Katie said “why don’t we find out? I’m due to spar with Widow but you’ll do.” “I err…” Allen hesitated slightly. “Nova I don’t think that’s a good idea?” Evans cut int. “I mean…” “No.” Allen said, straightening up. “It’s fine…I’m game.” Katie turned to drop her water on a bench and started to wrap her hands in the bandages she had.
“Go easy on her…” Evans whispered in Katie’s ear. She looked at him innocently.
The pair of them started to circle and Katie waited, waited like she always did for her opponent to make the first move. She watched, quickly noting that the woman favoured her right, so she was right handed. She was also a bit taller than Katie, and stockier but that wasn’t an issue, she’d floored Sam before and Evans come to think of it.
As Allen came in with a right lead, Katie ducked and aimed a harsh left jab at her mid-section, causing the woman to let out a gasp of air. She recovered fast, coming in again and Katie moved to the right so the blow glanced off her ribs and aimed a kick to her right knee, causing her to stumble slightly. As she straightened Katie was waiting and landed a hard jab straight to her face, causing her to reel as her nose began billowing crimson. There were hisses from the watching recruits and she vaguely registered Evans to tell her to take it easy but she wasn’t listening. Allen wiped at her face and came at Katie, full on, which was what she had wanted, she’d riled her enough to make her want to fight fierce but as she came Katie threw herself to the left and swept both legs from under her. She crashed to the mat and in an instant Katie had her on her front, knee in her back as she yanked her arms back.
“You’re right…” Katie bent over, lips close to her ear as she struggled, making Katie pull even more “I do own half this gaff, and my brother owns the other half. Something you need to remember when shooting your mouth off, and trying to climb my fiancée in his office…” “I wasn’t-.” she protested and Katie cut her off with another yank.
“If you so much as utter another word commenting on my fighting skills again. I will rip your arms out of your sockets, right before I have you escorted out of my compound, you got that?” “Yeah I got it.”
Steve paused at the sight in front of him. Following Natasha’s advice he’d headed to the gym, ready to take his girl out for the afternoon, only to find her pinning Allen to the floor, the woman’s arms yanked behind her back and her nose bleeding on the mat.
“I tried to stop them…” Evans looked up at Steve who made a noise in his throat and strode towards the two women. “Katie that’s enough!” his voice rang out loud across the gym.  “What the hell is going on?” “Allen had some worries I wasn’t field ready.” Katie let go and easily got to her feet, looking at him, a flash of anger in her eyes, the fact he had used his Captain’s voice on her hadn’t gone unnoticed. “So I offered to show her, put her mind at ease.”
“Yeah well I think you’ve made your point.” he said, looking at Allen as she stood up holding tight to her nose, pressing firmly to either side to try and staunch the flow of blood from the single quick right straight Katie had hit her with before the take down.
“Do you need medical Allen?” Steve asked. She shook her head. He turned his attention to Katie, and glared at her “I don’t know what the hell is going on here…” “I just told you.” she shot back. “I was showing how field versed I was…” “By punching her in the face?” he said, his hands falling to his belt. Katie folded her arms and glared back at him.
“We were sparring.” “You were trying to rip her arms out of the sockets…”
“Don’t be so dramatic.” Katie rolled her eyes earning herself a glower, a look which would quell anyone else but not her, she wasn’t scared of him. “Maybe now she’ll think twice about making shitty comments.” “If someone punched you every time you made a shitty comment you’d never get up.” he said back, no trace of humour in his voice, because he didn’t find the issue funny at all. He eyed her again before he nodded to the door “Go.” Was he serious? One look in his eyes told Katie he was.
“Fine.” she shrugged, picking up her water bottle before she left. Natasha, who noticed the tears in her eyes went to stop her but Katie waved her away. Steve watched her back before he turned to Evans, pointing to Allen
“Patch her up and then I’ll see both of you in my office. AND GET BACK TO WORK!” he bellowed round the room.
Evans and Allen both nodded and left.
Steve noticed Natasha was looking at him from the doorway, arms folded.
“Got something to say, Romanoff?” he asked, snappily.
“What could I possibly have say when you handled that so well?” she asked sarcastically. “FYI, you might want to take your shield back home with you later, I can’t expect Nova’s gonna take to being stripped down in front of people so well…” She levelled Steve with another look before she left and he let out a groan of frustration. Could this get any worse?
By the time he got back to his office both Evans and Allen were waiting. And when Evans explained what Allen had been saying, Steve was even more frustrated as he wasn’t surprised Katie had reacted the way she did, not that it made it right, just a little more understandable. He unloaded on the woman, gave her a verbal warning and then dismissed them both. Then, deciding it was time to face the music at home he headed to their apartment.
Katie had made it back to their quarters before she had burst into tears. She knew she was being unreasonable in a lot of ways. The Compound was still finding its feet, so of course it wasn’t going to run like clockwork and obviously Steve was going to be working long hours. She was too, she wasn’t completely innocent in that respect. The issue was him missing date night was something he had never done before and it had surprised her a lot. Was she getting less important to him as the time went on?
Angrily she stripped off, changed into her bikini top and her denim shorts before she grabbed her book intending on heading out to the patio area to top up her tan in the August sun.
She was in the kitchen, grabbing herself a beer when Steve came back.
“You alright?” He asked.
“No.” Her tone was clipped, “But thanks for asking.”
He rolled his eyes “Katie…”
“Excuse me.” She went towards the door, but he didn’t move.
“Steve, get out of my way.”
He still didn’t move. “No, you’re not going anywhere until we sort this out.”
She groaned and looked up to the ceiling.
“Wanna tell me what your problem is?” he asked
“Right now, you, not letting me out of this fucking room.” she sighed, rubbing at her temples.
“Look, I know you’re pissed at me for last night and I get that, but..”
“That is not the problem!”
“Then what is?” He shot back, somewhat exasperatedly. “Honey, I can’t fix anything if I don’t know what I’m supposed to be fixing…”
” That!” she looked at him, her voice loud “That is the problem! That you have no fucking idea what the matter is! You’re so wrapped up in running this place I hardly get a look in. You don’t ask for my input, you don’t involve me in anything…”
“Woah, now hang on.” He stepped forward. “When we moved here you said you didn’t want to run anything…”
“And then you order me out of the fucking room in front of the damned trainees!”
“Yeah well you can’t just kick the crap out of one of my team members like that”
“Yeah well your team member is an asshole.” Katie rolled her eyes. “She deserved it for being a dick…”
She took the opportunity to dodge round him and out of the doorway he had vacated when he stepped into the kitchen and made her way to the doors at the back.
“Right now you’re being a dick”
“I’m not. I just don’t want to play second fiddle to your fucking Army Camp anymore.” “Army Camp?” he let out a sarcastic laugh.
“Yes Army Camp” she said, spinning round.
“You’re being ridiculous.” he shook his head, running his hand through his hair. “Absolutely ridiculous.” “And that doesn’t help!” she glowered at him “When I’m pissed off or upset, you telling me I’m being ridiculous…” “Well you are…” A chuckle escaped his mouth before he could stop it.
“Stop fucking laughing at me!” She yelled, the heat rising up her neck and to my ears. He was really, really pissing her off, her could see it on her face he took a deep breath as she continued. “Tell me I’m wrong, tell me this whole thing isn’t about reclaiming some of that time and life that was stolen from you?”
“You think…” He stopped and cocked his head to one side, trying to make sense of what she was saying “You think that this, all of this…” he waved his arms around “Is some kind of trip down memory lane?” “Well isn’t it?” He shook his head, snorting, giving her comment the contempt it deserved. “You couldn’t be further off the mark if you tried.”
“Well from what I see it looks like you’re simply trying to re-live your Howling Commando days.” She snapped back “And I have news for you Steve, I’m not Peggy, no matter how much you wish I was.”
The words flew out of her mouth before she could stop them and they felt like a slap to his face. But instead of it upsetting him, he found himself boiling over with anger at how fucking ridiculous she was being. They had been through this time and time again, he’d shown her and told her at Clint’s she as the most important thing in his life, hell, they were getting married in less than three weeks for fucks sake, what else did he need to do?
“That’s out of order and you know it.” His voice was low. What do I have to do to make you realise you are what I want? Not Peggy, you…”
Suddenly the shitty nature of her words began to sink in and Katie found herself unable to look at him anymore, so she turned her head to the side. So he crossed the room and grasped her chin between his thumb and forefinger forcing her to look at him. As she looked back his jaw twitched slightly, a mixture of hurt and anger in his eyes, the furious energy radiating off him and then that ridiculous part of Katie’s brain that controlled her libido piped up, this was fucking hot. Her breathing hitched slightly and he felt it too.
“Fine, if that’s what you want…” he practically growled as his lips crashed onto hers and before she could even think to kiss him back, he pulled away - leaving her wanting and moving toward him to try and catch his lips again. Her hands reached for his face, desperately trying to bring him back to her. At the motion, his hands grabbed her wrists and forced them back to her sides, clearly, but wordlessly telling her who was in charge.
There was a slight pause between them, both trying to catch their breath from the row that had just occurred and from the searing kiss he had just delivered. Then their lips found one another again, his hands moving to her waist to both pull her closer and he began to tug at her clothes. Getting the hint, she acted in tandem, hands falling to the clip on his utility belt, fumbling with it for a second in her rush before successfully releasing it and then going for the flies on his uniform pants. Steve popped the button on her denim shorts and in a quick swoop shoved them and her bikini bottoms down as they both stumbled around the room.
He took hold of her hips again so to manoeuvre her wherever he wanted. They continued to stumble around the room for a moment before he took control and roughly picked her up. Her bare legs immediately wrapped around his still fully uniformed waist and her arms went around his neck as he slammed her up against the wall at the far side of the lounge and, using it as support he shifted his grip from under her ass. One hand went to her hip while the other pried her hands from the back of his neck. He was able to hold both of her wrists together with one of his hands, placing them up above her head and holding them there tightly.
This was angry sex, not make up sex, this was utter ‘I’m so fucking angry at you so I’m gonna show you.’ sex. Well, she was angry too so there was no way he was having this all his own way.
She rolled her hips, hard against him which was enough to get his attention but he simply used his free hand to shove her legs off of him. Katie managed to catch herself on her feet, only slightly bumping against the wall but before she had chance to think his lips found hers again, hungrily kissing her while his hand skated over her bare stomach. She arched into the touch, wanting him to move a bit south, but his hand stopped an inch away from where she wanted it to be.
“Say you’re sorry.” his voice was right by her ear, rougher than she could ever remember it being before. Rough enough to make a shiver go down her spine and for her to try and thrust into his hand, desperate for any sense of relief. But he pulled even further away from her, making her whine a bit. “You’re sorry and you believe me…”
“I’m sorry.” she breathed out, stumbling over her words “And I believe you…”
He surged forward, kissing her desperately and she openly moaned into his mouth as two of his fingers slipped inside of her. His motions were fast and aggressive and he brought her to the brink, and then stopped.
“Do you still believe me?” he breathed out, voice ragged. “Tell me you do and you want this.” The fucker was still making a point but by now Katie really didn’t care.
“Stevie, please.” she thrust her hips out toward him, gasping “I still believe you, I want you.”
It was want, not need. And that didn’t escape his notice. He knew which one he would prefer to hear, to be wanted over needed any day.
He couldn’t help the soft smirk on his face as he braced one hand on the wall beside her head, the other harshly yanked one of her legs up so that it wrapped around his waist. Reaching into his pants he freed his now painfully hard erection from them and didn’t even pause before slamming into her, making her cry out sharply, one hand going to grip his bicep, the other against the wall to steady herself. He slammed into her over and over with such force that she was sure she was about to go through the wall itself and into the hall.
Desperate to be both closer to him and not to actually go through the wall, because that would be awkward to explain, not mention painful, Katie tried to lean in more to him. The motion made him go deeper inside of her, which caused her to moan at the feeling. At that point Steve quickly removed his hand from the wall and lifted her off her feet. Their chests pressed together, the bare skin of her stomach rubbing against the harsh Kevlar of his uniform, both messily kissing each other as Steve stumbled around the main area of the lounge before toppling over the arm of the couch where Katie ended up on top. Even then he continued his aggressive thrusts, his hands on her hips, pulling her down as he drove upwards.
She let out a small groan, the roughness of his pants was grinding against her clit along with the fact he was bottoming out inside her, hitting her spot again and again.
“Shit, Captain…” she hissed and the noise made him slam up even harder, fuck he loved it when she said that when he was being tough. She let out a loud scream and tightened around him and at the feel of her walls clamping down, which was fucking bliss as always, his thrusts upwards became desperate as he chased his own end,  before he gave a loud “fuck…” and he came, hard as she collapsed on top of him.
The pair of them lay, utterly spent and his hands gently ran up her spine as her face pushed into his neck.
“Still pissed at me?” he murmured.
“In a fashion.” she responded as she picked her head from her shoulder and rolled to the side so she was between him and the back of the couch. He moved so they were facing each other, gently nudging her nose with his.
“Can we talk this over like adults now?” his voice was still quite stern. Katie bit her lip as she looked at him and he sighed, his voice becoming softer “I hate rowing with you. But I still don’t know what’s going on. Please talk to me.”
“You shouldn’t have ordered me out.” she said.
“You broke Allen’s nose.” Katie had to fight the smirk crossing her face. Good shot.
“it’s not funny.” “It is.” Katie said “She deserved it.”
After what Evans had told him, Steve kind of agreed to be fair and Katie saw his face soften slightly. “Evans told me what she said.” Steve brushed her hair behind her ears “For what its worth she’s had an official warning.” “Did you go all Cap on her?” Katie raised an eyebrow “Bet she loved that…” “What do you mean?” “Oh come on, don’t tell me you haven’t noticed…”she snorted before putting on an airy voice “oh Cap…that’s so funny. Hey Cap, can you show me how to do this take down. Oh Cap, you’re such a good teacher… she was practically trying to climb you the other day in your office.” “You’re jealous…” he smirked.
“I don’t like people touching my stuff.” she sighed “Especially not some 28 year old blond bombshell.” “Blond bombshell?” he snorted.
“What? She’s hot.” I shrugged “I’d do her.” His eyes flashed cheekily “Now there’s an image.” She narrowed her eyes at him and he laughed before sighing again.
“Listen to me…” he said, his hand then coming up to caress the side of her face as he looked at her, driving his words home. “You are the most important thing in the world to me and there’s no other girl that comes close, not matter what you think. Not Allen, not Peggy, no one. And as for playing second fiddle…” he gestured with his spare hand around the room. “Say the word and this all goes.”
“Yeah right. You’ll never give up being Captain America…”
“I would for you.” He said simply.
Katie looked at him, he’d shocked her, but he meant every word. If he had to give all this up, he would. He didn’t want to but, he would. The magnitude of what he had just admitted took a while to sink in, but when it did Katie was overcome with emotion, and the tears pricked at her eyes.
“Hey, come on.” Steve let out a soft sigh, as he held her close, rubbing his hands softly up her back. “You wanna tell me why last night was such a big deal, and yeah, I know that I messed up but, well I’m getting the feeling there’s a little more to it.”
With a deep breath she pulled back and licked her lips. “I err, I just wanted to tell you something and I wanted it to be special because I know how much it means to you, but, well, I made a decision on my name. You mean everything to me, Steve, and when we get married I wanna give everything to you, so, I wanna be Mrs Rogers.”
Her words took a moment to sink in and once they did, a huge grin spread across Steve’s face. “Really?”
“Yeah.” She nodded, smiling. “We’re tying ourselves together for life and I want everyone to know that I’m yours and you’re mine.”
“I’ll always be yours, Baby.” He whispered, as she leaned in to kiss him, as he wrapped an arm around her waist while one of her legs slithered in between his.
Soft, gentle kisses were shared as Katie gently reached for the zip of his uniform top, undoing it and then guiding his undershirt over his head as he undid his pants fully, shimmying out of them before he guided her onto her back while he shifted so he was caging her in between his legs. This time the mood passion, not anger.
“You have no idea what you do to me…” he whispered gently into her ear as he undid the strings on her bikini top leaving them both completely bare. She let out a groan as she titled her hips up. He closed his eyes as her hand came to rest on his cheek and he leaned into the touch as he shifted so her legs parted and he was inside of her again.
Tilting her head back at the feeling left her neck exposed, which Steve took advantage of in pressing soft kisses up her throat. His hand snaked up her arm so he could intertwine his fingers with hers. He slowly rolled his hips against hers, instead of the frantic rhythm he had prior. The hand that wasn’t entwined with hers went to her hip, pulling her closer as he thrust deeply, gently, slowly, each roll of his hips hitting her spot as he continued over and over again, head dropping to my neck, collar bone and breasts which he had paid no attention to before.
“Stevie, you feel so good…” Katie moaned and he let out a groan of his own at her words. When her orgasm rolled over her again, this one not as ferocious as before, but no less pleasurable she melted underneath him, breathless, her hand running through his hair as he came again, collapsing on top of her
The moments after they finished were always their favourite. The quiet bliss that surrounded them like a bubble, keeping them safe from the world.
“I love you.” Katie said softly. He picked his head up from where he had it buried in the crook of her neck so he could meet her eyes.
“I love you too.” he responded, pushing some hair out of her face, thumb circling her cheek. “I can’t wait to make you Mrs Rogers.” He whispered, his lips ghosting over hers.

Trust You (Pt 5)
Tumblr media
Everyone stopped and looked at Vosler, even Malcolm. I walked past JT, taking a hold of Malcolms arm I started to pull him back. “Malcolm,” he looked down at me. “Come with me.” Slipping my hand into Malcolms I could feel his grip tighten.
Pulling him along we walked away from the others. I took him to the roof, making sure he stayed close behind me. His hand was shaking again, I knew he was upset but his out burst at Vosler could mess with the investigation and we didn’t need that right now.
Once the rooftop door closed behind us I let go of Malcolms hand. “You okay? “
“No! Why did you bring me up here?” Malcolm walked past and in front of me, pacing now as he became more frustrated. “I know hes lying about Andi.”
“Malcolm you can’t just yell out like that at a possible suspect, okay? Look we are doing what we can, and we will find Andi-”
“Right, because bringing me up to the rooftop is going to help with that!” He shook his head in disbelief, his hands were running though his hair.
“Look at you! You’re aggressive, emotional, you’re not in your right head space right now.” I looked down to his still shaking hand, he was still angry.
“How would you know what my right head space is? I’m fine, I just need to go downstairs and-”
“Do you really think Gil is going to let you near Vosler right now? I know you trust that JT, Dani, and Gil will take care of him. Stay up here, clear your head.” I watched as he kept pacing back and forth, his mind was racing with a million thoughts and his hand hadn’t let up even a little bit. “Look, I’m going to head back downstairs, but please promise me you’ll take a moment to try and clear some of those million thoughts, okay?” I smiled gently, hoping that would be enough for now. Turning around, I reached for the door.
“I really do trust you Y/n, and I wanna talk about the other day. I know now is not the time, but I can’t help but think you’re starting to doubt... us.”
I froze with my hand on the handle. I didn’t want Malcolm to think I doubted our relationship, I was just so frustrated that he continued to put his life at risk without a thought to those who loved him. He is worth so much more then he gives himself credit for. I turned around ready to tell him this but my phone started buzzing, I looked down and saw it was Dani texting me.
“Go.” Malcolm looked down to my phone. “It’s probably important, I promise I’ll take a couple minutes up here.”
I nodded, putting my phone back I looked back over to him. “I promise we will talk after this case is over.”
(cut to )
“Have you ever thought that due to Malcolms trauma as a child, his father being a killer, would make you feel unsafe with him or perhaps unstable to work on any case?”
I nodded. “Malcolm believes his upbringing from his father being a killer has made him understand serial killers in a different way. As far as I can tell, it has proven to be helpful, and I don’t think Malcolm would do anything on purpose to put the team at risk.”
“You still believe this after the stunt he pulled the other day?” He looked up.
“What Malcolm did was stupid and reckless but he didn’t hurt anyone. I don’t think that was his intention.” I leaned back in my chair, keeping myself defensive.
“I see, so tell me, what happened with the case next?”
“Well..”
(cut to)
Gil and Malcolm had brought Jessica in for a little help on a deprogrammer. Since I hadn’t seen Jessica since the hospital, I thought I would make myself known.
Malcolm said she had a plan to have a meeting with every deprogrammer in New York City and if I wanted to I could come and observe her with him though every meeting she had. Malcolm and I portrayed ourselves as the house help, serving tea, getting small snacks, keeping on the down low as Jessica chatted her way though these meetings.
“My cousin Ariana was recruited by the Moonies in the 80s. Ugh. We had a hell of a time getting her out, but as they say, forgive, love, unite.” That last part Jessica said she was looking right at me. Sending a wink my way she continued. Malcolm seemed to notice.
The next few went by as normal, up until one lady. “She gave that boy everything she had, and he joins a cult? I mean, how hard is it to accept a trust fund, settle down, and pop out a few grandchildren?” Jessica glanced at Malcolm, seeming like she was talking about him. He managed to keep a straight face but I cracked a smile, lucky I was standing behind the women chair so she couldn’t see my face.
One guy had caught Malcolms eye, he thought this guy was who we were looking for. As soon as Malcolm walked the guy out, Jessica came right beside me.
“Oh, Y/n, how have you been? You look as wonderful as ever. Tell me, whatever stupid thing my son did this time, I promise to take care of you if you ever need anything. We always have a spare room with your name on it.” She was as chipper as ever, her voice a sweet but still dominating sound.
“Thank you, Jessica. I think Malcolm and I just need to talk somethings out, but after the case.” I smiled at her, however her face fell and she rolled her eyes.
“You and my son, always with the case comes first, you two are so perfect for each other. I’m not just saying that because I like you ether.” Jessica poured herself a drink and went back to her room. I sighed, I was sure that was something Malcolm would say.
Once back at the station JT, Gil, Malcolm and I had Mr. Marsh in questioning, however... it wasn’t exactly going well.
“You got nothing.” Marsh glared at Gil.
“We got your boots. They’re a match to the prints we found at the crime scene. Thats enough to hold you for 24 hours.”
“Tell us where Andi is.” Malcolm spoke up.
Marsh slammed his hand on the table. JT snapped his fingers. “Easy.” He said, leaning over him.
“Should’ve known this was a setup. How’d you find me?” Marsh asked, taking a bottle out and popping several pills before throwing it in the trash behind him.
“You come highly recommended.” Gil said.
“Because I get results.”
“Results like murder?” JT spoke up. “Tristan Johnson left Vosler. He didn’t need your help getting out.”
“Everyone needs a little help from time to time. Thats the job.” Marsh stated.
“But this job was tougher then usual.” Malcolm started to walk towards Marsh. I watched him closely, taking a step forward myself to keep an arms length. “That big, important client wanted Andi back, and you couldn’t deliver. You needed to get to Andi, so you tortured Tristan.”
“But then something went wrong.” Gil cut in. “You lost control, you strangled him. Next thing you knew, Tristan was dead.”
“What kind of a deprogrammer allows himself to lose control?” Malcolm asked.
(Cut to)
“Bright didn’t believe the case was closed?”
I shook my head. “He was convinced Marsh was working for someone else.”
“Which is what led to the incident?” The doctor asked.
“I’d been worried about Malcolm all day. Now...now I was scared.” I looked away from the Dr, anywhere but his eyes. I made sure of that.
“Y/n, what happened? Right before the incident?”
(cut to)
I had just walked out the bathroom when I heard Malcolm and Gil talking, Malcolm sounded upset. Looking around the corner, I strolled a bit slowly forward to try and catch what they were saying, keeping my eyes from them to a case file I randomly picked up.
“I’ve been working this case!” Malcolm threw his pen down frustrated.
Gil leaned down, setting his hands on Malcolms desk. “I brought you onto the team because you’re the best at what you do, Bright, but not when you get like this.
“Like this?” Malcolm repeated. “I’m “like this” because of Martin Whitly, because of John Watkins, because of you.”
Gil stood there for a second, he looked taken back. “What?”
“You asked for my help. You knew I couldn’t say no, and you brought them all back into my life. You did that. You started this.” Malcolm leaned back in his chair, letting out a deep sigh.
My heart broke at the sight of Gils face. I knew Malcolm was hurting, but to take it out on Gil like this cut deeply.
“Get the hell out of my precinct.” Gil said, turning around and walking straight  to his office.
“Gil, no” Malcolm called out, following behind him. Gil didn’t turn around, instead he slammed the door to his office. Malcolm stood there, letting out a deep breath, he hung his head.
I sighed, setting down the folder I was holding I looked back to Malcolm. He looked panicked now, his face looking in all directions. I watched as he suddenly sprinted his way to the investigation office. “Malcolm!” I called out, but he slammed the door behind him.
I ran to the door, trying to open it, but it was locked. “Malcolm!” I banged on the door. “Malcolm, open this door!” I leaned my head against it to try and listen but all I could hear was rustling from inside. “Malcolm!” I tried again, still nothing. I looked behind me to see if anybody was around. When I saw it was clear, I whispered against the door. “Malcolm, Baby. Please.” All of a sudden the power shortened and the precinct was dark.
(cut to main storyline)
Everyone was waiting, Malcolm was almost done with his interview, they had the Doctor cornered. Then just like that everyone walked in front of the window, to show him they got him, ready to arrest him. He looked shocked, seeing not only JT, Dani, and Gil and I but a few other officers standing behind us. As soon as we hear Malcolm tell the doctor he was under arrest, we knew the case was closed.
“I’m impressed. Nothing gets past you Malcolm. One last question? Did you see this?” All of a sudden the Doctor pulled out a gun, holding it in Malcolms face. Everyone pulled out their guns, Gil yelled out something but you couldn’t make it out. You were too focused on Malcolm, the panic setting in as you watched the doctor continue to aim the gun at him.
“Drop it, now!” Dani yelled.
“We will shoot you!” JT shouted right after.
“Get me a hostage negotiator down here right now! Have a bus standing by!” Gil called out.
I looked from outside the window, watching Malcolm continue to talk to the doctor. I could see his hand shaking with the gun, he was starting to look panicked now. Malcolm must have said something to make him upset, all of a sudden the doctor yelled out stop, causing Gil to flinch.
I knew Malcolm had a plan, he always did. No matter how stupid or reckless, I knew he would think of something. Just then I saw Malcolms hand move, he reached for the shock device and jabbed the doctor with it in the chest, causing him to fly back and hit the ground.
JT and Dani went though the door first, Gil was following me close behind. I ran to Malcolm, forcing him to look at me, I checked his head, his shoulders, his chest, anywhere to find something. Eventually he took a hold of my hands and held them to his chest to keep them from moving, looking at me he sighed. “I’m okay. Not a scratch.”
I let out a breath I didn’t know I was holding, pulling Malcolm to me, I wrapped my arms around his chest, letting myself hear his heartbeat. I felt him move his good hand to the back of my head, messing with my hair to try and calm me down.
“He’s alive.” JT spoke up.
I pulled myself from Malcolm, almost forgetting where we were. I didn’t really wanna detach myself from him. Malcolm must have sensed this, since he took a step behind me, blocking his hand from view, he gently started rubbing circles on my back.
“Wheres Andi?” JT asked Malcolm.
“He didn’t give a location. Damn it.” Malcolm said annoyed.
“You were with him the whole day. He must’ve let something slip.” Gil said.
“He removed the case boards to make a safe space. He’d want the same for Andi.” Malcolm stated.
JT nodded. “Someplace remote, hidden.”
Andi reminded him of his daughter.” Dani reminded.
“Lilly.” Malcolm said. “It was in his story. The last place they were happy: the cottage!” Malcolm shouted out.
“Sunken Meadow Beach. Go! Now!” Gil yelled out.
JT broke open the door. “Police!”
Going around the house, the four of us came across a small bedroom. Once you were inside, meet with a women with dark hair tied to a small bed. Malcolm ran straight to her.
“Andi... Andi, it’s me. You’re gonna be okay.” Malcolm reassured her. Andi, looked relived, but then she started crying. Malcolm pulled her to him, holding her as she sobbed.
The next day I was supposed to go meet with Malcolm at his apartment to talk. Gil was currently there, I could only assume to discuss the case or even the whole blackout at the precinct. I had used the secret key that Jessica hides to get inside. Walking up the stairs, I found myself starting to hear voices, before I opened the door, I stopped myself once I heard Gil say my name.
“Are you okay?” Gil asked. “You freaked out Y/n pretty good.”
“I’m f-” Malcolm stopped himself. “No. I don’t think I am.”
“You would’ve gone through with it, wouldn’t you?” Gil asked. “If you hadn’t found that pill bottle...you would have shocked yourself.”
Malcolm sighed deeply. “I’m not sure.”
“Okay.” Gil said. I heard him set his cup down and footsteps move to the door a bit.
“Wait. How is that okay?” Malcolm asked, chuckling nervously.
“It’s not. But you know you’re not okay, so...that makes it okay.” Gil stated.
“I’m not exactly following.” Malcolm said.
“You need a vacation. Someplace with a beach.” I heard Malcolm sigh. “I know it’s not easy for you to slow down, Malcolm, but I want you to try. Go hop on a yacht or a helicopter or whatever else they’re doing on Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous.”
Malcolm laughed. “Thats... thats totally not a show anymore.”
“Thats a shame.”
Malcolm chuckled again. It was so nice to hear him laugh this much, Gil really knew what he was doing.
“I don’t wanna see you around the precinct for two weeks, you hear me?” Gil stated.
“Loud and clear. Malcolm responded.
“Maybe take Y/n with you, I’m sure she could use a break having to worry if you are going to be alive the next day or not. Sometimes I think she likes being there as much as you do.” Gil joked.
“Yeah, thats not such a bad idea.” Malcolm said. “Hey Gil. I was wrong. It’s not because of you. I’m sorry.”
“I know, kid... I know.”
I heard Gil get closer to the door, opening it he looked down at me and smiled. Shutting the door behind him he took a step towards me.
“Hey.” He said.
“Hi. How is he?” I asked.
Gil sighed. “He’s not okay, but now he knows it. So, I guess thats a start.”
I nodded, making my way up the stairs, before I touched the door I felt Gil grip my arm. I looked down at him, waiting for him to speak.
“You help him, Y/n. I know sometimes it may seem like he’s losing it, but when you’re with him... he almost acts-”
“Let me guess, normal?” I chuckled a bit.
“Complete.”
I stopped myself, staring at Gil for a moment. “Complete?”
Gil nodded. “He thinks he can only cope his trauma with cases, but I think he has yet to realize that he has been slowly getting better when he’s around you. I don’t know what it is, but being with you is probably the most sane and happy i’ve ever seen him, and he doesn’t even have to try.” At that, Gil left me to be by myself.
It took me a moment to gain all my thoughts, but when I did I opened the door to Malcolms apartment, shutting the door behind me. When I walked inside I slipped off my shoes, looking around for Malcolm. I spotted him on the couch, his back was to me and it didn’t seem like he noticed I was there.
“I know you’re there.” Malcolm said. I was about to say something thinking he was talking to me but he continued to speak. “I get it. You’re a manifestation of my subconscious.” Now I knew, he wasn’t talking to me. “It’s all so devastating.” Malcolm looked over to his right, as if he was talking to someone on the couch, but nothing was there.
“He tired to kill us.” Malcolm spoke again. All of a sudden Sunshine came and flew and landed on Malcolms cast, chirping softly. “I’m a civilian now Sunshine. We’re gonna have lots of time together.” He sighed out. “Just you, me and...” He looked to his right again, but whatever he saw before must have been gone now. “We’re gonna be okay.”
I smiled sadly. This was so hard for him. He had everything crashing down on him at once. But what did he mean, he tried to kill us? He couldn’t possibly mean John Watkins? Maybe someone else? I would ask him later but for now I thought I should make my presence known.
I walked towards the couch. “Mind if I join you two?”
Malcolm turned around smiling at me, he motioned for me to come sit. I made my way over, seating myself next to him, turning my body so I could face him completely, crossing my legs.
“You look comfy. Not very often I see you without the tie.” I brought my hand to the coller of his gray sweater, it was soft and fuzzy, very nice fabric.
Malcolm took my hand in his. Bringing it up to his face he kissed my knuckles, brushing his thumb on top. “I’m sorry, I scared you... Twice, actually.”
“Twice?”
“Once with the doctor and his gun and then...” He stopped himself, thinking back on his stunt he almost pulled. “ I heard you. Calling for me I mean. I could tell you were worried.”
“I was beyond worried, Malcolm. I was scared, I had never seen you and Gil argue like that before, and then to find out you did a shock treatment? What exactly where you trying to forget?” I gripped his hand tighter. His eyes looked at me sadly. He was so tired.
“John Watkins told me something about Dr. Whitly. I just keep thinking about it, and then I start hallucinating-“
“At the crime scene and at the precinct. You had that look in your eye, almost the same look you get you wake from one of your nightmares.” I nodded understanding. “You’re seeing things when you’re awake now.”
“Y/n, darling.” Malcolm sighed, leaning his head down on my shoulder. “I should have never said your feelings don’t matter, that anybody who cares about me doesn’t matter. I just- I can’t stand the thought of more people dying because of me. I trust you. I trust everyone on the team, and I know I need to work on keeping things from you all, I promise I will. I just-“
I didn’t really need to hear anymore. Grabbing Malcolms face I made him look up at me. I pecked his nose lightly before kissing him fully. He moved his arm to go behind my back, pulling my body towards him the only thing I could do was get on top of him.
I moved my leg to the other side of him, resting between the arm of the couch and his waist. I was straddling him now, feeling his hand draw light circles on my back. He pulled back, to which I protested. He just laughed, moving his hand from my back to my face, pushing some little hair that fell in my face behind my ear. “God, you’re beautiful.”
I groaned out, feeling my face getting warm from his staring. Malcolm had some of the most beautiful eyes I had ever scene, but when he looked at me a certain way with them. I was lost.
Hiding my face in his neck I refused to let him do this. I felt Malcolm body shake from laughing at my embarrassment. He moved his neck to kiss the top of my head, he wrapped his arms around me in a hug.
“Hey.” I said looking up at him. “I trust you, completely. I have absolutely no doubt about you. I love you.”
Malcolm smiled at me, kissing my forehead he looked back down. “I trust you, completely. I have absolutely no doubt that I love you. Thank you, for putting up with me.”
“We will see how I feel next week depending on how many times you almost get yourself killed.” Holding on to him tighter, I tucked myself back in.
“Heh, sure. Next week.”

I haven’t been on Tumblr much the last few weeks for a few reasons.  Partly because I haven’t yet watched any of the What If...? episodes and I didn’t want to see spoilers. Partly because I want to re-watch the Loki series again and see what I think of it after taking a break - the amount of time and energy it took to keep up with an episode a week was surprisingly exhausting!  And I kinda want to give the series the attention it deserves, and I just haven’t had the energy for that.  But mostly it’s because we’re back in lockdown again and that’s challenging in its own way. (Yeah, this is going to be a post about real life and Covid, so if you’re not here for that you probably won’t want to read the rest of this post.)
New Zealand has kept Covid out of the country for most of the last year and a half.  We had one nationwide lockdown in March-June of 2020 and a couple of shorter less intense local lockdowns in our biggest city, Auckland in August last year and again in February this year. But in between it’s been life pretty much as normal, unless you wanted to travel overseas in which case you have to quarantine in the government-run hotels for 14 days on your return for $3000+ and rooms are hard to book because there’s a limited supply.
On Tuesday the week before last someone at work read out an article from the news online in the early afternoon that said not much more than that a case had been detected in Auckland and everyone in Auckland travelling on public transport should make sure they were wearing a mask that afternoon.  More details to come. An hour or so later reports that the Prime Minister was flying back to the capital, Wellington, for a Cabinet meeting at 4.30pm, and we knew it was serious.  They generally only do that if there’s an alert level change coming.  We’d all expected another outbreak at some point, and people were particularly on edge watching the outbreak in New South Wales, Australia, grow beyond their ability to stamp it out. We’d been warned that if an outbreak should happen it would likely mean an immediate move to our highest Alert Level.  So I packed up and went home early, as most people in the office did, as we made a point to say goodbye and wish each other luck. I began packing my suitcase full of everything I could think that I’d need for a month or more and waited till the official announcement at 6pm. We were right - it was Alert Level 4. Alert Level 4 means we all must stay to our household bubbles and no-one except for essential workers can leave for reasons other than to go to the supermarket, the pharmacy, the doctor, or for a vaccine or a Covid test. Or to do a bit of exercise near your home. I live in a small apartment alone and did the last lockdown alone so this time I drove a couple of hours north to stay with my parents for however long it might turn out to be.
The case numbers were a bit of a shock for us. It started with one man who had no known links to the border but quickly grew to 30, 50, 80 people a day.  Now I know that sounds tiny to most people, but we’re a small country, a ”Team of 5 million” TM. And during the first global wave of Covid the highest number of cases a day we peaked at was 89. So this was a bit scary, particularly as we’ve been warned for a while about the high transmissibility of the Delta variant. More worrying still is that the case numbers just kept going up past the point where we were expecting to see a stabilisation.  The thing is, we don’t know if what we did the first time around will work against Delta. We think it might, but we can’t be sure like we have been in previous outbreaks. And unlike other countries where the virus was in the community, we’ve been slower to get and administer vaccines. Bookings were only starting to open up to people outside of the vulnerable categories and border workers a few weeks before this outbreak.  I won’t have my first shot till mid September.
But today we had some good news.  We’ve now had two days of lower case numbers. Yesterday’s were the results from Sunday which traditionally has lower testing rates so we couldn’t read too much into that, but today was lower again at 49 cases. So I feel we can take some heart from that. Though there is still quite a way to go.
Tomorrow most of the country moves down to Alert Level 3, which is pretty much the same as Level 4 but with contactless takeaway food and coffee (I mean it’s more than that, but for the average person those are the main differences). Auckland will stay in Level 4 for another two weeks at least.  So it’s looking like I’ll be staying up here for 6 weeks or so (because inter-regional travel is prohibited until we get to Level 2). I’m lucky because I can do my job from home, but it’s hard to concentrate and I almost wish I couldn’t work from home so I wouldn’t have to deal with the stresses of work as well as lockdown, but I know there are people in much worse situations all over the place so I’m grateful.
The thing that this has really brought home to me is that we’re going to have to have a difficult conversation soon.  One that Australia is having now.  If we want to have higher numbers of people travelling to and from New Zealand we’re going to have to by choice let the virus in.  And this is going to mean that we will lose the sense of normality and safety that we experience on a day to day basis between lockdowns.  And it will mean choosing to allow people to die from this disease, looking at the data from other jurisdictions, even if we reach an incredibly high vaccination rate of over 90%.  I would hate to be the person who has to make a decision like that. I know there are new treatments being developed and a second generation of vaccines that may be more effective, but then the virus is also changing and who knows what the situation will be like at the end of the year. Yay uncertainty. lol
So yeah, that’s where I’m at right now.

ok... i require genshin team comp assistance if anyone is willing to help ;;;. under the cut so i don’t feel like im bragging for the whole world to see. if anyone wants to help me decide who my team should consist of, it’s greatly appreciated!
so... i got hu tao today and i’m sitting here realizing i have no fucking clue who my team should consist of.
here’s who i have as my main team currently:
lvl 80 c2 barbara. she’s running w/ lvl 80 mappa mare and maiden’s beloved set. ideally, her catalyst could be better.
level 90 c0 keqing. she has a refinement rank 2 lion’s roar (lvl 80) that will soon be level 90 once i get enough mora. 2 pc gladiator, 2 pc thundering fury. she’s in a good place and is currently the bulk of my damage. i feel like she’ll probably be on my team no matter what due to her sheer strength right now.
level 80 c5 xiangling. i just got dragon’s bane (lvl 60) and have been working on getting xiangling higher. she has no good artifacts yet (i have fragile resin to burn, dw) BUT with the arrival of hu tao, i’m thinking of replacing xiangling with hu tao?
level 80 c4 fischl. she’s kind of my situational -- i’ll switch her out if needed. she’s running 2pc wanderer’s troupe and 2pc thundering fury and a r3 stringless. i pretty much use her for oz then switch to someone else.
however, i also have the following:
c0 childe who has a skyward harp. i literally just have no idea how to incorporate him into the team.
c0 qiqi --> is it worth it to level her up and grind for artifacts just to replace barbara? is she that much better?
c0 jean --> same issue as qiqi, although i feel like jean would synergize with my team better.
c0 xiao --> i feel like i should work on getting this guy good artifacts since i’ve seen people do big dmg with him, but i’m not really sure where or how he’d work well with my team. i know barbara or jean would help him a lot.
c0 hu tao --> 4pc crimson witch on this girl in tandem with keqing would be absolutely insane because of the overloaded bonus. i plan on leveling her up, but idk if she should replace xiangling or fischl?
... i also have a c2 bennett who would work well with childe, but he’s a bit of a different story with the fact that i have 3 different 5* healers i could do before him.

Can’t Quite Quit You - Chapter 1
Synopsis;
It appears that Mr Stark once had a Mrs Stark in his life that certainly wasn’t his mother. Tony and reader must work around their rocky path for the sake of the Avengers and the work the must focus on together once again.
Tumblr media
Warnings: Language. Mentions of past relationship. That’s about it for this Chapter.
Words: 2,840
Pairing: Tony Stark x OC (past), James ‘Rhodey’ Rhodes x OC (platonic)
_______________
(A/N: This is a separate series I will be working on. There will be confusing changes to the characters, original plots and relationships between people. For example;
Tony stark will have been previously married to OC
Morgan will be in existence at the age of 5 in this for a plot that will happen in future chapters
I have set direct ages for some characters like Tony and Rhodey which will respectively be 45 and 46
Tony and Rhodey will have met before they canonly met
Any further changes to things that I feel will need to be discussed, I’ll add them before the chapter begins in an authors note.)
(A/N 2: I will foreseeably not be posting on Thursdays and Fridays. I WILL continue to write during those days though ((if I do not have college work to complete during those nights)) and post them any other days of the week. Also, Chapter three of The Glitch should be up Saturday. Read chapter 2 here.)
_______________
She took one last look around her home that was now vacant and clear of all her belonging, dark from the late hours of the night. Chloe sighed through her nose softly and lugged the last box in her arms through the threshold, closing and locking the door behind her, posting the key through the letterbox then proceeding to head to her car.
One Nick Fury had requested her scientific knowledge to be put to use helping the Avengers. It took a lot of persuasion on Fury’s and Rhodey’s part. Rhodey and Chloe are practically life-long friends with how close they once were, knowing each other for many years, still regularly keeping in touch. So, when Fury approached him about about recruiting her to the more scientific and engineering department of the Avengers, he had contacted her immediately in the hopes of convincing you to take up his offer.
She was renowned in her work as a scientist and robotic engineer, although, no one would truly know it’s her. She gave herself an alias, disliking the attention and wanting the focus to be purely on her work.
Usually, Chloe wouldn’t need to be sweet talked into such an amazing opportunity but certain circumstances with a certain someone had left a bitter after-taste in her mouth and, if you hadn’t picked up on this yet, that certain someone is, let’s just say, closely involved with the Avengers.
We’ll get on to whom she refers to later.
Placing the last box into her Vauxhall Wagon, she climbed into the drivers seat and began her journey to compound, leaving behind her comfortable and solitary life where she focused solely on living and work. As she drove down the desolate dirt road, her eyes drifted to the rear view mirror, noting the stand alone house surrounded by fields upon fields, slowly fade away as she put distance between it and herself.
Her mind wandered as she travelled, wandering into crevasses she wished would not be explored, memories she thought she had locked away behind barriers and chains well enough.
Chloe thought of him, what his reaction will be when he sees her for the first time in 13 years. If he’s changed, if he thinks she’s changed which admittedly, she had.
She knew what he looked like recently, of course she did, he was all over the fucking news. She couldn’t even open up Google on her laptop without his bloody face showing up but she hadn’t the slightest clue on what was going on in his life apart from being one of Earths mightiest heroes and quite frankly, she didn’t want to know either.
As she pulled up to a red light, she leaned back into her seat and closed her eyes as she exhaled loudly. A million scenarios passed through her head at how the interaction could play out. She knew things would be fine though, Rhodey would be by her side, a comforting presence helping her through the ordeal.
Her eyes were open once more as she watched the lights change. She turned her radio on, hopeful the loud 80′s rock blaring from the speakers would drown her thought out, remotely giving her a peaceful 10 hour drive.
“Fuck. Me.”
_______________
After a gruelling 11 hours and 45 minutes drive, the compound came into view as she passed the trees surrounding the large, sleek building. Chloe noticed the many people training on the grounds, making the assumption that they were employees of S.H.I.E.L.D., agents training to maintain their fit-for-field-work physique.
As she closed in on the compound, she noticed three figures standing near the entrance. As her eyes adjusted, she was able to recognise Director Fury, whom she had seen through her laptop screen when they first made contact, and Captain America himself stood beside a woman she did not recognise.
Her car slowed to a stop, becoming still then silent as she killed the engine. She huffed out a breath as she unbuckled her seatbelt and opened the door, swinging her legs out first, happy to finally stretched her legs and exit the vehicle finally.
She breathed in a the fresh air as she stoop up, momentarily closing her eyes to give them a well deserved break, adding moisture back into her green orbs. She quickly recomposed herself and closed her door, rounding the car and taking a few small paces forwards to meet the trio.
“Doctor Miller. I’m glad you took me up on my offer.” Fury extended his arm towards the woman for a handshake which she shook with firmly with confidence. As he retracted his hand for hers and began to gesture to the two beside him. “This is Agent Maria Hill and I assume that you already know who this man is.” He gestured over towards the fellow brunette and the Nations favourite super soldier who both gave the woman a friendly smile.
“You assumed correctly.” She mused as she thrust her right hand towards each other them to shake as her left slides into her front pocket of her jeans. “It’s good to meet you both.”
Steve was the next to speak. “It’s good to meet you, too. A few of us have been informed of your work and I believe you’ll be a great addition to the team, working in the labs.” He sent you a charming smile. “I think you’ll fit in nicely with the others.”
“I’m glad you think so.” Chloe sent him a smile back. They noted the lack of shyness, she exudes confidence and is clearly prideful of the work she has put out into the world.
“We should introduce you to the rest of the team in the living area.” Maria speaks up, catching the attention of the other three. They nodded simultaneously in agreement. “If you hand me the keys to your car, we can collect your stuff and take them on to your floor. We’ll move your car into the a secluded area for safe keeping as well.”
Chloe nodded but spoke before handing her keys over. “Let me just quickly grab something and we can get moving, I guess.” Maria gave a curt nod of her head and Chloe walked back towards the Vauxhall.
She opened up the front passengers side door and reached in to retrieve a box off of the passengers seat and her back pack from floor in front. Satisfied she’s grabbed everything of real personal value, she straightens herself out, closes the door with her hip and makes her way back over to the trio who was patiently waiting by the entrance.
She swiftly handed her keys over to the agent of three before following Fury and Steve through the doors and towards an elevator at one end of the large space.
“Would you like any help with that bo-”
“NO!” She cuts the captain off quickly, emphasising loudly. She cleared her throat before continuing. “Uhm, no, thank you. Sorry, the stuff in here is really important to me and I’d rather not put it into the large hands of a stranger, no offence.” She smiles up at the man bashfully. He smiles at her apologetically in return.
“No worries, sorry.”
As the elevator finally arrived, they stepped inside and rode up to the main communal floor all the Avengers use. The ride was relatively silent, until Fury spoke up. “Rhodes has been quite excited to see you, you know.”
She smiled at the mention of her friend. “I’ve been pretty excited to see him too. Not seeing him in person for 12 years is a pretty long time.” She chuckled at the thought.
Steve smiled as he watched the woman speak kind words about her friend, voicing how, after all this time, she would seemingly still be excited to see an old friend.
They fell back into a comfortable silence, listening to the hum of the elevator as it works to ascend pass multiple floors. A simple ‘Ding’ cut through the silent machinery and soon after the metallic doors slid open, reveal the mixed group of people as they turned their attention to the three now steeping out.
The silence was daunting as the team watched them walk towards them. The silence was soon broken once again as Rhodey pushed passed the few stood in his way, a massive smile had broken on to his face. “Hey there, Pip.”
She grinned at the use of her childhood nickname. “Well, if it isn’t my favourite Lieutenant Colonel.” She sent him a playful wink as she placed her back pack and box gently on to the ground before surging forward, engulfing the man in a long awaited hug.
He immediately responded by wrapping his arms tightly around her shoulders, closing his eyes to bask in the loving moment between friends for as long as time would allow him. “You’ve grown.” She mumbled.
“You’ve shrunk, short ass.” She pinched his back through his shirt and his chest vibrated as he laughed.
He leaned back, looking at how she’s aged well in person. A few frown lines are scattered across her forehead and dark bags from lack of sleep evident on face but he couldn’t help but notice that she still had that same beautiful, youthful features that remained from their 20′s.
A cough from behind Rhodes brought them out of their small reunion, forcing their attention on to the group awaiting anxiously for an introduction. “Oh shit, right. Avengers, this is Chloe Miller, Pip, these are the Avengers.”
They all flashed her a welcoming smile as she drank in all of their faces.
‘Too many damn people. I’m not gonna get used to this quickly.’ Chloe thought to herself as she continued to study the heroes before her.
“Maybe we should actually start introductions instead of standing here looking like a bunch of mute dumbasses.” The man she recognises as Hawkeye spoke with a hint of sarcasm. “I’m Clint.”
He began to point at individuals as he recited their names to her. “That’s Natasha, Bucky and Sam. Over there we have Wanda, Vision and Thor. And finally, Carol, Stephen and Scott.”
“Lady Chloe, it’s a pleasure to meet you.” Thor boomed as he quickly made his way over to her in just two large strides and proceeds to pat her shoulder.
“Yeah, nice to meet you too, Salt.” She winced slightly as she rolled the shoulder the God had previously touched with his large, powerful hands roughly, referencing the Angelina Jolie character with long, blonde hair.
“I apologize for my rough housing, lady Chloe.”
“All good, buddy.” She patted his arm to show there were no hard feelings between the two.
As it looked like Thor was to reply yet again, Steve decided to interject. “There’s a few more of us but they’re currently either out, busy in the labs or away for other matters, personal or other.”
“Cool.” She simply replied to the man. As formalities and introductions continued to be exchanged between the group she noticed a small girl peer from behind Scott, she appeared to be young, like 9 or 10.
The young girl wasn’t necessarily shy in any way, she just chosen to stay out of the way as the adults talked. Chloe tilted her head towards Rhodey who still stood beside her. “Didn’t realise you guys were a fucking day centre.” She joked quietly, causing the man to let out a chuckle at the crack.
“That’s Scott's kid, Cassie. It was Scott's weekend and she really wanted to stay at the compound. She’s a sweet kid.” Rhodey informed her. she nodded in acknowledgement before making the decision to take a step forward and lower herself down to the child's level.
“Hey there.” She smiled sweetly at the girl. “I heard that your name’s Cassie. I think that’s a super pretty name.” This caused the young girl to send a smile to the 43 year old and step closer.
“I think your name is pretty too.” Cassie spoke in a sweet voice, tone laced with a childlike chirpiness.
“I think we’re gonna get along great, Cassie.” She stuck her hand out towards the girl to finalise their meeting. Cassie grasps Chloe’s hand into her small, dainty one and shook it lightly.
Chloe straightened herself out and sent one last smile towards the girl before stepping back to her original position next to Rhodey. The man smiled sadly as he watched her in the corner of his eye, a knowing look in his eye as he noticed the smile that didn’t quite match the solemn look in her eye as she continuously glances as Cassie.
_______________
The group of people had migrated to the couches within the living space, continue to conversate with the newest addition to the building although, Scott had taken Cassie out to get food and have some daddy-daughter time.
As they continue to get to know each other, the elevator dinged once more, signifying the arrival of more people. Chloe peered over, seeing one Doctor Robert Bruce Banner, whom she was a big fan of, and a young male at his side.
‘Seriously. How many kids do they let in here?’
“Ah, Bruce, Peter. We’d like to introduce you to Doctor Chloe Miller. She’ll be working in the labs with you and Stark.” Steve spoke to the two. Chloe stood up, ignoring the mention of Anthony and met them halfway, shaking Banner’s outstretched hand.
“Doctor Banner, it’s wonderful to meet you. I’ve read all your papers. Your thesis's are impressive, to say the least.” He smiled sheepishly at Chloe. She noted he was quite the humble man.
“Thank you, Doctor. I look forward to working with you in the lab. Young Peter here works alongside us in the labs sometimes.” He directed her attention to the teenage boy that stood to his left.
“P-Parker Peter. I-uh-I mean, Peter Parker.” He wiped his hands on the front of his jeans before reaching to shake the woman’s, stumbling over his words.
She chuckled at the young boys behaviour and sent him a comforting smile which seemed to have helped him significantly. “Don’t worry kid. It’s nice to meet you. You must have a bright mind to be working alongside Banner occasionally.”
He beamed at this as he flushes a light shade of pink at her compliment. “I mean, I’m okay, I guess.” She laughed at his also apparent humbleness.
“Sure, kid.” She patted his shoulder gently before moving to sit beside Rhodey again.
Bruce and Peter joined the others on the couches, sitting in any space that was available. As they settled into their seats, Natasha spoke out over the small murmurs between people. “Tony still in the lab?”
“Yeah, he should be up in a few minutes though.” Banner replied then looked over towards Chloe. “Doctor Miller, have you met Stark before?” He questioned.
Rhodey and Chloe shared a look, almost seemingly having a miniature conversation telepathically that didn’t go unnoticed by the group. “I guess you could say that I have.”
Before the scientist could ask what she had meant by her statement, the elevator dinged once again, announcing a new arrival. “Why is everyone so damn quiet? Who fucking died guys?” He spoke as he walked further into the space, not looking up from the tablet his eyes were glued to.
Chloe didn’t even need to look to know it was him. His voice hadn’t altered that much over the years.
Tony’s eyebrows furrowed together when his question was met with silence. He tore his gaze away from tablet that displayed plans for one of his new suits and looked around at each person sat on the couches. He did a double-take when his eyes reached a a certain brunette from his past, a brunette he hadn’t seen in 13 years.
“Chloe.” He breathed out, multiple emotions are on display in his eyes alone but the most noticeable of them all is shock which is etched across his face.
She stood up straight, looking him directly in the eyes, her face stoic but voice laced with many emotions. “Stark.” She spoke with anger, malice in her tone.
Tony quickly recomposed himself before draining his face of emotion to match Chloe’s. “Don’t say my name with so much hate, Pip. After all, it was yours as well at some point in time.”
Rhodey closed his eyes for a brief moment as he sighed softly before joining the pair in standing, staying close to Chloe as he knows he needs his support most right now.
The rest of the Avengers, excluding the pairs best friend, looks at them in confusion, unsure of the true meaning behind his statement. “What do you mean you used to share it?” Wanda spoke up, her accent thick and laced with curiosity.
Then suddenly, it’s as if the newly gained information and witnessing the interaction between the two had made something click, everyone’s features change as quickly as a flick of a switch.
“No fucking way...”
“You guys are...”
“YOU GUYS ARE MARRIED?!”

Frog Pile #37, in B major
Written for Nurseyweek2021 Day 7: Free Space
its also on AO3 if you’d rather read it there

Normally, Nursey loves living in the Haus.
It’s close to his classes and Faber, and there’s a lot of pies, even after Bitty graduates and Jerry’s delivers now. There are enough people in the Haus that make enough noise to knock him out of his writing sessions and remind him to eat. There’s always someone willing to watch a movie or something with him. He never has to walk home from a kegster, he just has to make it upstairs.
Plus – both his best friends live in the Haus too – easy access if he needs something and he’s close by he can tell when either Dex or Chowder need a friendly face.
However, it’s January.
And no matter how much work Dex does to the Haus, it is still, fundamentally, an 80-year-old house – and that means its drafty. Winter in Massachusetts means lots of snow, and Dex insists on the Frogs being the ones to shovel to set a good example, seriously Nursey, what if someone falls on their way here? And Nursey is all for reducing the chances of himself falling on his face, but – and not to be dramatic – he hasn’t been warm since like, October.
Case in point, he is currently trying to get warm on his own bed. Three blankets, his green beanie, a scarf, and a mug of tea complete the picture. But he’s still cold. Normally, he’d just yell until Dex or Chowder showed up, but they are both out for a while. Chowder is walking Farmer back to the volleyball house so she can do homework and Dex is being the most captain ever to captain and checking in on literally every member of the hockey team that doesn’t live in the Haus. Even the other upperclassmen.
WTF aren’t here either, not that it would mean they would cuddle either. Well, Ford and Tango would, and they would drag Whiskey with them, but there’s no need to make that guy more uncomfortable than he still is. It doesn’t matter because they’re all on a date at Annie’s, and their collective body heat isn’t available to him.
Maybe he’ll just become an ice sculpture, fused to his own bed until Spring.
Just as Nursey is thinking about googling hypothermia symptoms – Dex knocks on the doorframe.
“Feeling a little cold there, Nursey?” he smirks.
“Fuck you. It’s 3 degrees out without the wind. And you made me shovel today,” Nursey says.
“Awww, poor baby,” Dex looks him over critically, “Do you want me to come cuddle?”
“Dexy! You’d do that? For little old me?” Nursey pretends to swoon. It’s less pretend than he likes, but whatever, Dex probably doesn’t know Nursey’s in love with him.
Dex rolls his eyes at the dramatics, like always, but still says, “I’ll even text Chowder and have him stop saying good-bye to Farmer and come cuddle as well. Double warmth.”
And if Nursey wasn’t already in love, that would have done it. He’s so gone. Luckily, he has lots of practice dealing with the gay panic that comes with hiding his feelings for Dex, so he sounds normal when he says, “YES! Frog Pile! Dex you rock!”

“Oh wow, it’s so cold outside you guys! How do you stand it?” Chowder whines when he comes in to Nursey’s room 10 minutes later.
“Well Dex has that Maine man lobster fishing cold immunity built up. But I’m a delicate tropical flower and so I shrivel up and die when not on the ice.”
“Ha. Ha. Very funny Nursey.” Dex is back upstairs and Nursey fist pumps when he sees Dex has brought up the latest batch of cookies from Bitty with him. The three of them have definitely earned those. He passes them off and the three of them arrange themselves in Nursey’s bed. Through a lot of trial and error, they found the perfect arrangement. Dex likes to be on an end because he usually has to leave first for captain duties or his job. Chowder takes the other end for the back support. Which leaves Nursey free to sprawl all over his best friends with his legs tangled with Chowder’s and his head in Dex’s lap so they can all see the laptop on his desk.
He really loves his friends.
Dex is rubbing the back of his neck as Nursey is musing about what they should watch, which Nursey has learned means that he has an idea, but is embarrassed about it for some reason.
“Out with it Dexy. I don’t have any strong opinions about movies today. My brain is too cold to think.”
Dex clears his throat softly and says, “Well I thought, if you guys want, maybe, we could watch The Mummy?”
“Dex why would you be nervous about that suggestion?” Chowder asks, “That’s like, one of my favorite movies!”
“The reason is dumb.”
“Deets, Dex, you can’t just leave us hanging with that,” Nursey says.
“Ugh, fine. I thought of The Mummy because it takes place in a desert. So we could try to trick our brains into thinking its actually warmer than it is,” Dex says, flushing.
“Dex!!! What a great idea! Let’s do it!”
Nursey’s so soft for him. It’s a problem. One he might actually do something about soon. Maybe.

“Well Beni, I think you’re on the WRONG SIDE OF THE RIVERRRRRR”
It’s probably better that the Tadpole are out right now, they definitely wouldn’t appreciate hearing the Frogs scream that line along with Brendan Frasier. This was such a good idea.

“You know who can get it? Like universally?”
“Who, Nurse?”
“Ardeth fucking Bey.”
“You’re so right!”
“He’s definitely the reason I knew I was bi,” Dex offers.
“Hard same, dude.”
He’s totally gonna marry that freckly red head. The couple that lusts over horse-riding, tattooed, secret warrior society badasses, stays together. But for now, he has the rest of this movie. He has this Frog Pile. He has Dex absentmindedly playing with his hair. He can wait.
He’s finally warm.
