I'm trying not to let the "nature" system bug me too much. I just started playing Pokemon Sword and I realized that my starter has a kinda shitty one way too late. Thankfully it's not a terrible thing to have a hindering nature because it isn't brought down far below the average. It still sucks, though, and I'm the type of person to be bothered by that sort of thing...

I know we all positively *lost it*, hats down because, truly, what an episode:
Tumblr media
Prof. Cerise is a big kid at heart and I respect that.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
yeah, a nice legend!! ☺️☺️ (bless this child, he’s too pure)
Tumblr media
research fellows count! (I just really love it every time their work is acknowledged)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
in today’s episode of Ash’s hero complex is gonna get us killed one of these days ⬆️
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
you see my child’s face in these??? you see the split second decision he makes and how he is immediately determined to keep Suicune safe??? that is the resolve of a hero !! there was no greed and no premeditation, just quick-wit and a lot of heart. I’m so proud.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
imagine being so in sync with your partner that they immediately know what you were trying to do, and have values so well-aligned that they’re ready to put themselves on the line so you can achieve your common goal. the stuff of soulmates, that.
Tumblr media
I've seen you do this a handful of times this gen around, and it doesn’t get old. I love you, gods I love you. thank you for having such a big heart and being such a knucklehead. I truly adore you.
Tumblr media
big sigh no comment they’re truly the perfect partners aren’t they. ugh. love.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
bless you, Sobble, you were really gonna risk it all for your trainer, weren’t you, little one? (seriously though these two jumped to protect their trainer from a hostile force in a nanosecond, and prior to this Cinderace actually instinctually jumped to protect Suicune, talk about being in sync with your partner!! Cinderace is so good at reading the environment!! he’s a protector by nature !! and good at following its instincts, too !! proud !!)
Tumblr media
it was all about character development so let’s also appreciate how my boy can now climb by himself !! his boyfriend wasn’t there to take his hand and pull him through but Goh is now an athletic boy as well and he did this with only a little sweat. kudos to that, too.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ash had counted but invaluable moments in this episode. can we just take a moment to admire how he was stressed as well (balled fist and stealth pose), but still had the leadership to comfort Lucario??? this is the stuff Pokémon masters are made of, I've heard.
Tumblr media
I'm in a lot of trouble and hiding but I still have half-the-mind to think of my better half, who is also in a lot of trouble and hiding, I really love him I hope he’s all right...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Raichu !! babygirl where have you been, good to see ya. I've also been racking my head trying to understand if Goh actually carries that big-old backpack empty on the regular? but he also magically manifested the sprays from within the backpack some moments later?? there’s a hanging pouch at the top??? I’m looking too much into it?? definitely. all in all kudos to his smart mind and his big heart.
Tumblr media
was Goh trying to contact Ash here??? Officer Jenny?? my bet is on the former bc, well,,, of course. he sounded so worried, it must’ve been Ash. (Who has a phone for the kicks, it seems, because he never freaking picks it up...)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
He literally just captured it, but is already so worried for their well-being, and you dare tell me this boy hasn’t grown?? that he doesn’t care for his Pokémon?? HÁ (also, two Pokémon in a day! kudos on a positive catch day for Goh)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
my blood was boiling at watching those poachers attacking Suicune while it was already down. I'm in agreement with everyone else here who noticed how much Goh cared, how worried he was, and how his growth from chapter three until now shines in this moment.
bonus for his surprise/relief the moment he heard his friends to the rescue.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
this sequence was power. also, Goh’s mantra count !! (no, but seriously, they are so impossibly well-matched for one another it’s not even funny anymore, I’m just a mess over their relationship).
Tumblr media
“ - and don’t worry, I’ll look after Satoshi”
Tumblr media
proud husband smile
Tumblr media
Shoutout to lil Pikachu saluting Officer Jenny! sweet little thing, you.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
IMAGE BEING SO IN SYNC WITH YOUR PARTNER THAT THEY IMMEDIATELY KNOW WHAT YOU’RE TRYING TO DO, AND HAVE VALUES SO WELL ALIGNED THAT THEY LOOK AT YOU THIS FONDLY BECAUSE THEY KNOW, THEY’VE BEEN HERE AS WEL AND THEY GET IT, AND THEY ARE SO PROUD.
the stuff of soulmates, that.
Tumblr media
prolly gonna print this one, too. to remember how proud I am of Goh every single day.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Imagine --- well, you get it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
in case you missed it, Mr. Voiceover reminds us what really happened on this episode, Goh formed a bond with Suicune, he proved himself as a good partner/trainer, and earned Suicune’s trust. that’s what happened. he’s pure and kind and worthy of a legendary Pokémon’s trust, and he’s gonna continue growing and keep working hard towards his dream. he’s been mature and wise and big-hearted, and I love him. and that’s it.

Placing a gentle hand on the right-hand side. The ball seemed to shiver at your touch as if frightened by the sudden pressure. Carefully picking up the ball in your hands, you looked up at the Professor with a smile. The Professor nodded without saying a word, whereas Donghyuck picked up the most energetic ball in his hands. His grin rivaled a thousand suns as he called for Scorbunny to leave it’s pokéball. Scorbunny leapt from the ball and hopped over to Donghyuck. You looked down at the ball in your hands and sat down on the ground.
“You don’t have to rush; I know this is happening so suddenly. You can take your time; I know we will be great friends in the future,” You spoke softly to the Sobble inside it’s pokéball.
“Y/N ah, why won’t your Sobble come out,” Donghyuck complained as he can his Scorbunny chased each other around the room.
“This is a big change for the little guy, Sobble needs time to adjust to this change. After all, he didn’t ask for this. I will not force him if he is not ready to meet me,” You explained as you held the ball in your hands.
“Y/N hurry and become friends with Sobble, Scorbunny and I want to battle,” Donghyuck sighed as him and Scorbunny settled down.
“Battling is not always a priority. Anyone can see that you and Scorbunny have an instant connection. However, some partnerships need time to develop to their fullest potential,” You explained as you put your pokéball gently in your bag.
“Do you two know where you want your journey to go?” The Professor leaned against her desk as Grookey hopped up on to her shoulder.
“I’m not sure where this journey will take me,” You answered after a moment.
“I want to challenge the nine brothers!” Donghyuck jumped up and posed for the security camera in the corner of the room.
“Ah yes Donghyuck, you’re very ambitious. The nine brothers are all very talented in their art,” The Professor nodded with a smile.
“Can you tell us more about the nine brothers?” Donghyuck asked excitedly.
“I suppose I can, you will need some information about the Nine before you run into them on your journey,” The Professor and Grookey walked behind her desk to a black bookshelf and picked up a small, framed photo.
“I’ve known those kids since they were young and ambitious, Donghyuck reminds me of the younger brothers while you remind me of the older brothers,” The Professor chuckled as she handed you the framed photo. Twelve people smiled in a field surrounded by different types of pokémon.
“The three adults in the photo are me and their adoptive parents. The three of us were friends in school, quite close. We were all very interested in the scientific side of pokémon. Unfortunately, their parents passed after an accident involving the research of the Dynamax evolutions of the Galar region. Since then, I worked hard to give those boys every opportunity I could, eventually I was given the professor title alongside Aciano. Just when I thought things were coming together, Aciano was caught doing horrible experiments to innocent people and pokémon,” The professor looked away from the small, framed photo to look at the Grookey on her shoulder.
“That’s so sad,” You mumbled as Donghyuck came over to look at the photo with you.
“Indeed it is, yet the boys proved to push through their difficult beginning. Look at them now, they have no doubt made their parents proud,” The Professor smiled again.
“The Photo is foreshadowing who they have become in the future. Starting off on the left side Sehun, Chanyeol, and Junmyeon will be the first gyms in your journey. Sehun has an infinite connection to Grass type pokémon. The only pokémon I know that will be on his team for sure is Leafeon,” The Professor explains as Grookey climbs down to inspect the photo.
“Right! The Nine as considered to be the best of the best, rumor has it that each of them has their own eevee. Although from what you have said I’m assuming this isn’t a rumor?” Donghyuck asked as he looked up to the professor.
“You are correct, Donghyuck. It’s not a rumor, each of the nine has an eevee that they had since they were young. Each of them has a different connection to the special type pokémon, their eevee’s have evolved according to their connection with their trainer,” Something about this statement doesn’t make sense. If this were true, why would Baekhyun be the leader of a dragon type gym rather than a normal type gym?
“So therefore, Junmyeon will have a vaporeon and Chanyeol will have a flareon,” The Professor stopped talking as something about your atmosphere interrupted her.
“Your explanation doesn’t make sense with the Champion,” You looked up from Baekhyun’s smiling face to face the professor. She smiled and nodded, thinking for a moment.
“Baekhyun has always had a special connection to the sky. His connection to dragon type pokémon is something I’ve never seen before. The only connections more important to him than his dragon type pokémon is to his partner pokémon and to his brothers. He’s always known that his eevee would never naturally be a dragon type, until the emergence of the Star Stone. Although it never stopped him from being a great trainer to his eevee,” The Professor defended the Champion.
“How about I take you two to the pokémart down the road? You’ll need some items for your journey from now on,” The Professor stood up and the Grookey quickly climbed up to her shoulder again. You and Donghyuck stood up, you gently placed the photo on the professor’s desk and followed her out of the Research Center.
“Professor, the Nine are older than us, right? Yet, you are older than them? You don’t look as old as what you’re saying,” Donghyuck rambled slightly as the three of your walked down the street to the pokémart.
“I’ll take that as a compliment, Donghyuck. I am quite old, although I still feel young,” The Professor chuckled softly. The doors of the pokémart opened up quickly.
“Now go gather some items for yourselves, I will take care of the bill this time,” The Professor pointed to the three different areas of the pokémart. You knew from stories that the woman straight ahead can heal a team of pokémon no matter their state after a battle. The blue area to your right is where you can buy potions of different types and some pokéballs to add to your bag. You weren’t quite sure what the area to your left is, but you figured you would find out sooner than later. You walked over to the blue area and picked out two dozen pokéballs and two dozen potions.
“Thank you for shopping with us, the bill has already been taken care of!” The two men behind the counter nodded their thanks and began speaking with the next customer as you took your items and put them in your bag. A small pressure on your shoulder grabbed your attention. Sobble snuck out of his ball and he crawled up to your shoulder.
“Ah hello! I’m so happy to see you’ve come out. Do you want to meet Donghyuck and Scorbunny?” You asked the little Sobble. The Sobble seemed to shake a little bit, but it made its way to your bag and made a little home for itself outside of its pokéball. You smiled and made your way to meet up with the others outside of the pokémart.
“If you continue on this path, you will reach Route 1 and 2. The first city you will reach is Zinnia City. The tall grass is where most wild pokémon will hide, try and make a small team before you challenge Sehun’s gym,” The Professor advises you both.
“Alright, but before we go anywhere, I challenge you Y/N!” Donghyuck is going to get his challenge before the two of you begin your journey.

Here’s my unpopular opinion
I will be spoiling it under the read under and tagging it so anyone who DOES NOT want to see it or spoil themselves like I did- here’s your last chance.
You have been warned:
The current generation that’s on its way looks fabulous and let me tell why I think people are pissy about the whole starter thing. They’re scared of either being called monster fuckers (which tbh, there is a group out there) or they’re just being cynical about the whole THEY LOOK LIKE HUMOONS spheal (lol).
Everyone’s entitled to their opinion, THEIR opinion; here’s mine-
I actually could care less for the whole aesthetic diatribe surrounding what could be potentially interesting pokemon. Naturally, it took me forever to choose since each starter has its own style. However, I am picking scorbunny- because lets be honest it grew on me. I was debating between grookey and sobble, both popular and good in their own right. Yet, the leaks only made things a little easier and then I realized that I haven’t chosen a starter yet.
Sobble’s evolution line is pretty on point with the dour middle lad and the slick gex looking mf. Ya’ll mad at them for having the balls to overcome their anxieties and be unapologetically sassy. So much so that you are willing to switch it up last minute it seems. You cry ugly tears and this gecko will suck them dry from those eyes without blinking. That’s the smug confidence of someone who suffers from anxiety telling you to cry mad about it.
Grookey’s an energetic drummer who just’s living his dreams as he grows up to be the biggest ape in the jungle. His mid stage is actually one of my favorites to be honest. This whole line reminds me when I played gen 6 for the first time, I picked Chespin since much like Oshawott- got cucked by Fennekin and Froakie. Chestnaught was an absolute unit and 10/10 was fun as balls to play with. I get that from Grookey but more BOOM in his bass.
I didn’t choose Sobble because despite being a cutie, I wasn’t into the whole group hype being spammed all over tumblr. That and I already had a water starter last gen (popplio represent).
I didn’t choose grookey because despite the fact he was in the top running, I had a lot time to think it over. In any other game, yeah he’d be the guy. Maybe second play through.
Does this mean I think less of them, oh absolutely not. Scorbunny despite initially being my least favorite grew on me. He grew like a weed and then the leaks happened.
Now, don’t go all YOU CHOSE THE LEAST UGLY LOOKING FINAL!! Oh no my dear dudes- the reason behind my selection was in truth- I saw my boy combuskin in this bunno. You heard me, my subconscious sort of put the two together and made me see that it’s been 5 whole generations since I ever actually chose a fire starter on the first try. Hence, I’ll pick scorbunny.
Regardless if these forms are legit or they’re faker than some of the folks, I love and appreciate each starter for what they are. Same goes for the rest of the pokemon, I for one look forward to pokemon shield when it comes out next week.
This has been my ted talk, thanks for listening and good morning.

Pros and cons for Sword and Shield
Okay since I’m pretty much done with the main story now and have caught most of the Pokémon I think I can give some thoughts. SPOILERS AHOY.
Pros:
- The Pokémon. They are awesome. I honestly can’t think of one new Pokémon I outright dislike. There’s a few “meh”s in there sure, but overall they’re cute, cool and Cinderace.
- I also gotta give some extra props to the Galar forms. There were a lot I weren’t even expecting and several of them even have alternate evolution (like Meowth and Yamask) or just new evolution altogether (like Farfetch’d and Corsola).
- The storyline isn’t super-intrusive, demanding you to do this and that all the time before you can enter the next gym... typically if you’ve reached the gym you can just go challenge it right away. The storylines haven’t been great in general in older games and this one’s no different, so I prefer less focus.
- You can actually catch Pokémon before you get the Pokedex. Its not right away, but you do get pokeballs from your mom after your first little excursion (even though she doesn’t tell you she’s given them to you so that’s a little weird).
- The Wild Area...I barely know where to start with this... So much awesome!
- Once upon a time I had a wish for Pokémon that they’d release a game where you could actually see other players walking around in the overworld, kinda like an MMO. Never thought it’d happen though... but then it DID.
- You can change a pokémon’s “nature” and even teach them egg-moves...so if you have a shiny you really want to use but its nature is shit and competitive battlers keep telling you it’s gotta have this and that move or you’re doing it wrong, well first of all tell them to shut their faces and play the game however you want, but then you can just go right ahead and give them a nature-changing candy, give them those egg moves and do some Hyper Training while you’re at it. Haven’t tried this system yet since it requires BP that I don’t have, but its there.
- Raid battles. They’re pretty cool.
- Vitamins (like protein and carbos) can now be used more than 10 times on the same Pokémon. (Still costs a ton though...but so long as you buy the game before January you will get a pretty decent money-maker in Gigantamax Meowth.)
- The music. It just keeps getting better I swear. I can’t stop listening to the Gym Theme.
- I like how the Pokémon League works in this game. The gyms borrow some features from Sun and Moon by having you go through “Gym Tests”, that are basically various minigames like herding sheep or a weird pinball game. But at the end its still the same old Gym Leader Battle. The tournament is also treated more like an actual sports tournament in real life would work, all your battles (including the League itself) are done in front of an audience and you even get fans. There’s also no Elite Four anymore, instead there’s an actual tournament with your rivals and the Gym Leaders.
- The starter that isn’t picked by you or your rival still gets a time to shine.
- I’m not 100% sure on this but I feel like they’ve changed the gender ratio for Eevee and the Starters...cuz I got a female Scorbunny after only three tries and I caught a TON of female Eevees. (Bonus: You can also catch Eeveelutions in the wild area).
- Speaking of Eevee they simplified its evolution. Specifically Leafeon and Glaceon, they now evolve with a Leaf Stone and Shiny Stone respectively. Sylveon also appears to evolve via friendship now so remember if you want an Umbreon or Espeon, delete its fairy moves.
- Pokémon camps are adorable.
- The game isn’t bogged down with legendaries. In fact there’s only three.
Cons:
- We gotta talk about the elephant in the room...
Tumblr media
No...not that one.  I’m talking about the lack of a national dex.  To me its not a deal-breaker, it still has 400 Pokémon in the Galar dex and there are apparently a few more that exist in the data (mostly previous starters and some legendaries) that can be transferred over from earlier generations, but... Fennekin isn’t available. That’s a shame. (Where did Leon get his Charizard from anyway...as far as I’ve seen you can’t catch Charmander in the wild...The player gets one as a gift from Leon if you were wondering.)
- Haven’t found an IV judge yet. Could have just missed them though. If anyone knows where they are let me know.
- There’s no easy way to EV-train your Pokémon at least to my knowledge.
- When you’re in the Pokémon League you’re automatically healed between each battle. It may sound like a nitpick but part of the challenge of the League was always that you had to face each enemy WITHOUT healing...so it kinda takes away from the challenge.
- You can only catch Pokémon up to a certain level. Again this wasn’t a big deal for me, as I usually don’t go looking for super-strong Pokémon anyway, but it felt a bit restrictive. So yes you could technically go challenge a level 30 Onix with your level 10 Sobble... but you’re not gonna be able to catch it no matter what you do.
- The Catch rate is too darn high. I don’t know what they did to it but it feels even harder to catch even the most common of Pokémon. (Despite the fact that I caught Zamazenta with the first Quick Ball.)
- While it was nice that it didn’t focus too much on a grand storyline this time, it also meant the plot kinda just comes right out of nowhere at the end of the game, and suddenly you gotta fight a final boss you never knew existed. That’s a little awkward.
- You gotta do WHAT to evolve Galarian Yamask??
- The animations in the cutscenes are a bit awkward at times... There’s a sequence where you watch Hop try to catch a Pokémon but he’s clearly not holding a Pokéball for example... you have animations where he’s throwing a ball Game Freak...
- No more walking with Pokémon...
- The Day and Night System is only active in the Wild Area. The rest of the game time changes based on where you are in the plot.
- There’s no GTS. What the fuck. I know it was pretty broken already in the last gen what with people asking for a shiny Marshadow for a Rattata before Marshadow was even officially announced, but it was a pretty good way to get game-exclusives. Now I actually have to go out of my way to TALK to people to get them, and I can’t even do that in game.
- SO yeah my next problem is that while you can SEE other trainers in the overworld there’s no way to communicate with them.. but that seems to be a problem with Nintendo in general. They are terrified of people communicating it seems...
Despite all that though I like the game and have been playing almost non-stop the past weekend XD Heck this was the first time I just went ahead and bought both games on the release date.. and I don’t regret that decision. I played Shield normally and now I’m doing a Nuzlocke on Sword. (Case you were wondering how I’m treating the “catch only the first pokémon-rule” when you can see them, I close my eyes and run in circles till I encounter something.) I also don’t care about the trees. Pokémon models are more important than trees.

Hey, If You Are Rating One Of The New Pokemon (Impidimp) Can You Rate All Of Them? (Grookey, Scorbunny, Sobble, Wooloo, Gossifleur, Eldegoss, Drednaw, Corviknight, Yamper, Alcremie, Rolycoly, Duraludon, Zacian and Zamazenta). pwetty pwease
Omg ok cracks my knuckles
(Also reminder these r just my silly opinions nothin serious)
-Grookey: 10/10 i have a monkey brain so naturally I must pick grookey
-Scorbunny: 6/10 they’re cute! I’m like usually so/so on rabbits in general but.. I wanna see the evolution I’m saving judgement. If he turns out like king kazma from summer wars then shit I’m... I’m sold lol
-Sobble: 10/10 I fuckin love chameleons... it’s really up to the evolutions now to see whether or not I’ll be picking grookey or sobble tbh.
-Wooloo: 10/10 I love sheep 🐑 I will have them hang around my mareep always
-Gossifleur: 5/10
-Eldegloss: 7/10 cuter!!
-Drednaw: 8/10 a blocky boy I love
-Corviknight: 8/10 theyre cool but I’m always like just ok with a lot of bird types.
- Yamper: 7/10 cute!!! Wonder if its stand alone or has an evolution
- Alcremie: 5/10
-Rolycoly: 9/10 CUTE... I’m hoping it’s evolution will be good
-Duraludon: 9/10 they’re NEAT! Shape is interesting.
- Zacian and Zamazenta: 6/10 legendaries are usually just a solid ok to me and both are good boiz but again they’re just like.. the obligatory legendary made for the game that I’ll catch and put in my box lol
Yeah there u go! I think by now a lot of my followers know like I don’t really care for a lot of “cute” Pokémon I naturally gravitate toward ones with odder designs hahaha

Pokémon Sword Avatar Challenge Playthrough Part 2
Greetings and welcome back to my written Let’s Play of Pokémon Sword: Avatar Challenge.  For those of you unfamiliar with Avatar Challenge, a quick guide to the rules is available. Avatar challenges are the only types of Pokémon challenges I do, and this time I’m doing Water Tribe since it’s my third playthrough of Sword and the only starter I haven’t used yet is Grookey.
I’ve been doing Avatar challenges for several generations and always have a lot of fun with them! Because you’re limited in the Pokémon you can use and need to get creative with your dual-typings, it can actually lead to you using a lot of Pokémon you haven’t used before.  They’re a very beginner-friendly challenge for those looking to spice up their replays.
If you missed Part 1, it’s available HERE.
In Part 2, we’re diving in to get a sixth member of our team, explore the Wild Area, and get our first Gym Badge.  Ready? Let us commence.
We finally made it to Professor Magnolia’s house just in time for her and Leon to discuss this generation’s one-off mechanic, Dynamaxing.  Because we’re already over Mega-Evolving and Z-Moves – those are so last generation.  I kind of liked Mega-Evolution at first, but then I got over how gimmicky the whole thing was.  Let alone Z-Moves and Dynamaxing – just let my Pokémon Pokémon, you know?
We go grab the Great Ball to the side and TM57 “Payback” behind the house then get ready for a “spectacular” battle with Hop.  I mean, we have two more Pokémon than he does at 1.5x to 2x his level, but points for enthusiasm I guess Anyu the Grookey one-shot his Sobble, so.
Suddenly there’s an amazing Wishing Star.  Total coincidence.  (I’m going to rag on this game a lot.  Just so you guys know, I do enjoy it.)  We sleep over at a complete stranger’s house because Hop’s brother knows her so I guess it’s okay.  But she gives us the super dope Dynamax Bands.
Hop challenges us to a catch-a-thon, but we’ve got the team I want from here for now so we just accept the loss with grace.  He gives us “Swift” as a consolation prize, so no complaining.  Our moms come to the train station to see us off then we hop (with Hop) on the choo-choo all the way to where the Wooloo herd cuts us off in the Wild Area.
I have to say, I actually do like the Wild Area.  It kind of reminds me of Gens 1/2 where you had more flexibility about where you went when. You can take on something way above your level if you have the guts or else run past all the fully evolved ones that will kill you – whatever you’re up for.
I’ve played “Let’s Go, Eevee!” so I get the free Eevee from the guy in the corner and name him “Varro.” Normal type is allowable for all nations and I can evolve it into a Glaceon, Leafeon, or Vaporeon later depending on what we need so that’s actually pretty handy.  Level 10, so he’s not far behind our team at all.  Ability is “Adaptability” which is… frankly fantastic. 200% on STAB sounds awesome. Relaxed nature like Anyu, so low Speed and high Defense.  I’d rather have this nature on Anyu to tell the truth.  We’ll see what we can do with a slow Eevee.
Our first area is drowning in Combees and Bunnelbys (Bunnelbies?) but neither of those is too exciting even though I did do an Air Nation run with a Vespiquen one time…. Eh, been there, done that.  Varro Quick Attacks down a breeder’s Grookey with minimal damage thanks to Sand Attack, then we switch to Amal the Chewtle for Scorbunny and Rajuna the Skwovet – then to Rorou the Dottler (apparently Sobble has high Defense?) – for Sobble.  Nice way to get the last starter in your ‘Dex.
We go ahead and make some changes to our team.  First we catch a Wingull to add some Flying type to our team, sending Karane the Grubbin to the Box.  We name her Amelie.  She’s level 10 so just a bit behind the rest of the team, but we can take care of that in no time.  Hydration ability which we probably won’t get really any use out of.  Quiet nature, so less Speed and more Sp. Attack, which is actually really not bad.  Still, I’m not sure if I want to use a Gen 3 Pokémon the whole way through, but for now it’s an added type on the team.
Thanks to lucky snow, we also get an early Ice type.  We capture a male Vanillite and name him “Kovali.”  We say a quick farewell to Varro the slow Eevee to keep Skwovet since we only need one Normal type.  He’s level 12 so not far behind us.  Ice Body ability, which won’t actually help us much but that’s okay.  Lax nature, so more Defense and less Sp. Defense.  We’ll see.  At least it starts out with “Icy Wind” as a solid early Ice move.
We do our first bit of camping while grinding a few more levels in the Wild Area.  We make some Fancy Apple and Oran Berry curry that gets acceptable reviews from the team.  We grind up to about level 15-17 just exploring around and picking stuff off the ground.  During this, Anyu the Grookey evolves into Thwackey, which is probably up there for worst mid-stage ‘Mons.
After all that fun and excitement, we finally make our way into Motostoke.  After a stop at the PokéCenter we get our hair cut, grab “Focus Energy,” get a Miracle Seed from Leon, then take the lift up to the stadium.  All this excitement and we haven’t even gotten our first badge yet!  We register for the challenge and (sort of) meet Bede before we’re shoved toward the Budew Drop Inn.
Can I just say how dumb Team Yell is?  I didn’t mind the evil teams right up until Gen 6.  Team Flare was just no (though having an Elite Four member be one of them was neat) but these guys are… yeesh.  Though they don’t pose like Team Skull.  And we get to see Kiss-Fan – I mean Galarian Zigzagoon.  Kovali makes quick work of these goons.  Turns out Icy Wind hits the full far side of the field.  At least Marnie is chill.
We get our first glimpse of the gym leaders then have to head over to Turffield via Route 3.  This game has a LONG lead in before you get to a gym!  We’ll call it here for now and pick back up next time!
