you know what hate crimes md enjoyers, idk if this has been done before but i wanna start like a little tag game: i wanna know your favorite seasons in order, what you think is the best episode each season, your personal favorite ep from each season, any honorable mentions if you have them, and your least favorite/worst episode in your opinion. i'd also like to have you sort the main characters/fellows from favorite to least favorite, plus tell me your favorite ship (and optionally, a ship you enjoy and think is underrated)! feel free to toss in any explanations for why you chose what you did. (: kinda long, but oh well – feel like it'll be fun.

i'll go first (so you can see the format) – listing seasons from the best imo, to the worst, and the episodes.

Seasons:

1. Season 3

Best episode: one day, one room (?)

Favorite episode: merry little christmas

Honorable mention(s): cane and able, words and deeds, family, needle in a haystack

Least favorite episode: que sera sera (?)

it was hard to pick the best bc i'm biased towards merry little christmas, but i don't know if it would be the best of the season exactly. as for que sera sera, nothing really wrong with it but honestly i had a hard time picking a least favorite too. great season – to me it's like the classic house season.

2. Season 5

Best: birthmarks

Favorite: under my skin

Honorable mention(s): the softer side, last resort, both sides now, painless

Least favorite: big baby (?)

i literally just barely remember big baby compared to the rest, i think, no matter how many times i see it. amazing season though, honestly so up there with s3 for me that it became a tough choice.

3. Season 6

Best: help me

Favorite: wilson

HM(s): the down low, broken (part 1 & 2), baggage, lockdown

Least favorite: epic fail, remorse (?)

help me is such an amazing episode, it always makes me cry. epic fail is extremely annoying tho and idk why, like after i watched it more than once or twice i started having a hard time rewatching it. and honestly every time i watch remorse i get pissed off on thirteen's behalf and it's just not a fun feeling. not a bad episode though. i know a lot of people don't like s6 but i love it.

4. Season 2

Best: euphoria (part 1 & 2)

Favorite: no reason

HM(s): skin deep, distractions, hunting, clueless

Least favorite: sleeping dogs lie

i recently rewatched euphoria and it's so fucking good i legitimately cried. sleeping dogs lie isn't a bad episode, it just is frustrating to watch for many reasons. another classic house season.

5. Season 4

Best: house's head/wilson's heart

Favorite: house's head/wilson's heart, 97 seconds

HM(s): mirror mirror, you don't want to know, frozen, living the dream

Least favorite: the right stuff

nothing really wrong with the least favorite – it was honestly a tough choice. also i couldn't pick a favorite, it was so tough. i honestly really like this season despite how short and different it is.

6. Season 1

Best: detox

Favorite: detox

HM(s): three stories, histories, control, mob rules

Least favorite: heavy, everybody lies (pilot)

the pilot being orange just makes me laugh the whole time so it's hard to watch, and chase's insane fatphobia in heavy is just disturbing, which is the only reason it's a least favorite. for the best i was torn between three stories and detox, but i think detox is better. s1 is ranked so low bc of general weirdness.

7. Season 8

Best: the c-word, everybody dies

Favorite: the c-word

HM(s): dead & buried, twenty vicodin, nobody's fault, post mortem

Least favorite: we need the eggs

we need the eggs isn't bad, the case is just ??? weird and kinda sad tbh idk. i haven't rewatched the c-word yet but i remember it fondly, so i couldn't really choose a best episode. is picking the finale kinda dumb? maybe, idk. i like a lot of episodes from season 8 surprisingly, like most of them, but it's so different from the previous seasons with cuddy absent and the late addition of two new main characters that it can't be any higher for me.

8. Season 7

Best: after hours

Favorite: after hours, out of the chute

HM(s): unwritten, bombshells, the dig, moving on, fall from grace

Least Favorite: two stories

god i really can't stand rewatching two stories. idk what it is but the fucking kids that house gets stuck with in the principal's office are so annoying ??? probably my least fave episode in all of house. but despite how s7 is at the bottom, it did have some great episodes. just wasn't my favorite season at all, especially as someone who isn't really into huddy.

tho the anime is original content and thus exists in a separate sphere from the CDs. Its entirely possible that they may move ahead and start shaking things up but i doubt it

24. What are your favorite episodes?

The only episodes I've really watched are TMWWBK (which is my favorite episode and I'm certain would still be my favorite if I watched every single one because it has the only SPN character and the only SPN line), The French Mistake (which was funny enough but honestly in the Just Okay category for me, which makes me pretty sure I wouldn't enjoy actually watching SPN if this is one of the funniest/highest-rated eps), and Reading Is Fundamental (my best friend was watching it and asked me if I wanted to hop on Discord, I thought it might be fun to see Kevin's first introduction but instead this ep found the two of us taking like 90 minutes to get through it bc we kept pausing and screaming (derogatory) as the model minority stereotype jokes piled up and up and up... Unfortunately not a favorite even if we got Meg AND the "pull my finger" joke AND the "Sorry" shot). Other than TMWWBK, from clipping and transcript-reading, I like Wayward Sisters (who doesn't?), The Things We Left Behind (Claire!!!! Cas trying to be a dad! The diner scene aka my favorite destiel scene of all time bc being in love just looks so good on Cas! Also the parallels between Claire and Randy and teen Dean and the adults at that club in his story... woof.), Golden Time (Eileen gets to be HERE and be sad and loved and fight people with ghost powers and Cas gets to do a cool speech and a stabbing and do the Asian community a favor), and Lucifer Rising (just immensely sexy on all counts for Ruby, Sam, Cas, and myself). Also I am SO fond of Steve!Cas so I'll add Heaven Can't Wait even if I barely know anything about it.

30. What is an unpopular opinion or headcanon you have about the show?

Ooh okay hm I think. So I adore confession scene, but I don't think the "I cared about the whole world because of you" is like. The Objective Truth the way that most bloggers seem to take it. Cas was lobotomized tons of times before he met Dean, he was described as coming off the line with a crack in his chassis, he's always been the weird little angel who likes humanity too much! I don't think Dean came first, and although gay love was part of what helped Cas invent free will, he *Ruby voice* didn't need the feather to fly, Dumbo! I do think Cas believes what he says in the moment, but I also think he sorta... made himself believe it? This is probably just me deciding that cas-coding should go both ways, but like. I very much crush as a coping mechanism and I very much overascribe my actions to love because it simply seems more noble/poetic to do so. Being miserable because school is hard is cringefail but being miserable because of unrequited love is Good Shit. And I have been in unrequited love with my best friend for at least 7 years (probably 9 but I didn't realize it earlier) and if you asked I would 100% say that she taught me love and defined love for me and that she will be my first and last, but I also know that that is not entirely true; it's just the narrative that I like for myself. And I think that being in an Empty deal contingent on whether or not he LETS himself feel happy would lead Cas to do plenty of mental maneuvering, which I think involved intentional self-poor-little-meow-meow-ification via overascribing his choices and happiness to Dean (and I also think he'd already been doing that for a while just because of personal self-worth issues and because it's a nice narrative). I know as Cas's last Moment on the show it was probably written to be The Objective Truth, but I am perceiving him and I say no.

44. If you could write an episode of Supernatural, what would happen?

Oh scream okay! This is a fun one! I am going to start out with two ideas from other people:

1. Months ago Nate from the pocnatural discord had the idea of an episode from the "monster"'s perspective where the Winchesters are just clearly the antagonists while not doing anything different than they usually do. I think the idea was that all these supernatural beings live in a self-regulating community together and we have one Very Likable pov character who's a member of this community, but one of the newer members messes up one day and kills someone and the Winchesters come on a case and wreak havoc on this Very Much Functioning (there was going to be a whole rehab and reparations thing for the new member who messed up!) system and kill pov character and in the end you just HATE Sam and Dean for it.

2. It's hard to adapt anything from bad moon rising (aka my favorite spn fic) very well because the point of an Arab Winchesters season 1 rewrite is that it doesn't really work with the white characters we have now, but I think I could see a version of chapter 2 adapted as long as Haley (an Ojibwe hunter who lives in the area affected by what Sam and Dean are hunting) takes the lead. I'd especially like to see this section:

Dean laughs, a little disbelievingly. The question has never crossed his mind. “Do you like it?”

This gives Haley no pause at all. “Yeah,” she says. “I mean, it’s not really about killing monsters, though, for me. Or, it’s not always about killing monsters. It’s about community. Not violence. It’s a spiritual thing to build a home, you know?”

“Oh,” Dean says. He can’t think of anything else to say. It has never crossed his mind before that hunting could be compatible with a community.

I don't have any original episode ideas to add to the hunting discourse, so we're on to my ideas about character-driven eps. I think I would like to see a version of my sastiel possession fic (ty again for beta-ing that! you're a real one) as an ep around the time of 9.11 because Sam deserves to work through their trauma, but idk what the Dean plot should be for that. Another thing I would like very much is TFW drunk history storytime (so like. Tall Tales bass boosted), where for some reason they all need to go over what they were doing during Stanford era but each of them is telling someone else's story. It's gonna be either Sam->Dean->Cas->Sam or Dean->Sam->Cas->Dean. It starts out very funny (they all have terrible wigs and makeup in the flashbacks. Cas is Jimmy wearing a giant mask with googly eyes on it.) but as it goes on it gets increasingly sad how much these three don't really know each other.

In the Sam->Dean->Cas->Sam episode, Sam's telling of Dean's past veers wildly between "crushing pussy and killing things" and "feels like absolute shit all the time" and it's funny but Not Right and afterwards Dean goes "I didn't know you thought of me that way" and Sam says "... I am basically reading off the voicemails you left me back then" and Dean has to sit there and contend with the mythology he himself wrote for Sam to believe in. Dean->Cas provides the comedic beats for the episode as Dean awkwardly narrates Cas's Life As A Weird Little Guy who watches trees grow and heals babies and in the end Dean goes "so how did I do" and Cas is like "well actually I was either getting lobotomized or murdering people so like 3/10?" The moral of this plot line is that Dean is bi. Cas gives a fairly faithful retelling of Sam living her trans little life at Stanford and veering between trying to be Normal and being a total weirdgirl and feeling guilty and angry and happy and free. It becomes clear that Cas admires Sam a lot (but also feels like. guilt and some self-recrimination for not being that) for rebelling from their dad and exploring their queerness during a time Cas was still to his knowledge in total soldier mode, and Sam is having an a_good_soldier's Thesis 5 moment about how she failed the kid she used to be and how very sorry they are about all the things that happened to them, and Dean hates that this is the first he's hearing about so much of this but is also quite emo about the parts where Sam is struggling. The ep ends with them all in the same room not looking at each other and not knowing if they want to group hug or never talk again.

Dean->Sam->Cas episode is similar but the storytelling dissolves a lot faster as it becomes clearer way faster how much their own emotions are getting in the way. Dean is upset that Sam could leave their family so easily and probably swing a normal life, Sam keeps wondering what it would be like to live millennia just KNOWING that you were right and good and clean, and Cas is gay and veering between fitting Dean's life into a larger Righteous Man narrative and just being very tender (and sad and angry) about Dean's pain. Episode ends in a rather cathartic shouting match where they all end up apologizing to each other for many things.

Oh also I would like to see Cassie again but I don't have an episode in mind there. Also would love to see Kaia adjusting to life in Sioux Falls and befriending the others and dealing with Bad Place trauma.

hi Maggie! This is kinda a Super Specific Ask but hopefully it’ll help other people too??? So how do you decide to write something as a book format or a script? I figured I ask you bc you have both experiences but I’m really at a loss rn like I started formatting a comic during quarantine but then I was like omg that’ll take so long and idk maybe I’ll make it into a movie script since I have a good amount of outlining and now I’m like but what if I have so much detail that it just makes more (1)

(2) it makes more sense for it to be written as a book but also I can see everything so visually so maybe script again and honestly it’s just been a whole debate over the last few months and I just need to decide. So how should I go about this? How do you decide and go about this? Sorry if this makes absolutely no sense but thank you anyways because you’re always such a help 💓

hi there friend! thanks so much for your patience on this. i know i said i was going to make a video for my new channel on this topic -- which i still plan to do! -- but my channel will be on hiatus for a little bit while i’m visiting family and i felt bad leaving you hanging, so i thought i would give you some starting thoughts here and then maybe i’ll have more to say or elaborate when i create the video. i hope that’s okay!

so to start, i completely empathize with this issue. it can feel like a lot trying to just figure out what medium would best serve the story, and i really do think that the right medium is important in serving it! sometimes you’ll just read a book or watch a movie etc and have that thought of like... hm... i think this would’ve been much better if it were ___ you know? so i totally get this concern.

here are some starting thoughts i tend to think of when i’m brainstorming early on in my own process to sort of determine which direction to take it:

does the concept / idea require a lot of visual elements? like is it highly cinematic, incorporate a lot of cool visual moments? it’ll need a visual medium (film, tv, comics)

similar, is the idea very fast-moving and plot-based? does it not require a lot of rumination or thought-process from the characters to move forward? again, i’d lean visual (film, usually). the key about writing screenplays is that they’re very sparse, economical about space, and don’t waste time on character’s thoughts or beats of introspection. the rule of thumb with scripts is that anything you want to be understood, you need to make sure it’s stated or implied via the dialogue or action. you don’t get any room to layer in subtext through thoughts or prose (which is something i struggle with, as a very novelistic screenwriter, yet cinematic novelist LOL).

of course, that’s not to say that a novel cannot be plot-driven. it’s more about like... what will be most efficient for that specific story.

on the flip side, does your idea rely on the innermost thoughts of a character or major details of a world? will the story be more impactful if we get a more intimate understanding of the protagonist? in this case, i think novels are prime. i think the reason many middle grade and young adult coming-of-age concepts are super successful as novels but sometimes flop as film adaptations is because what makes those stories so successful is getting to be in the head of that character. seeing their innermost thoughts and feelings, surrounded by their perspective, experiencing their introspection as they do -- you lose a lot of that nuance when trying to translate to screen.

in terms of character, is your idea very ensemble-heavy and driven by the dynamics of said ensemble? for me, television best serves this type of story. basically everything i write is ensemble-based, but the true ones that clearly fit television are those which have a core cast of 4 - 6 main characters. by using television, you’re able to spend more time across the board with each character and transition more seamlessly between them. it’s possible to do point of view swapping in novels (and i enjoy it when done well, and am aiming to do it with quincy willows future installments), but it can feel jarring and harder to follow because in prose we’re so used to nestling into the perspective of a home character. with television, you’re sort of inherently omniscient, so it’s much more flexible in jumping around from character to character. it’s just... roomier, in a way.

to this point, i think focusing on character and how it functions in your story can be very key to figuring out what sort of format you need. like when i first outlined quincy willows, i had structured it as a 10-ep first season of a television show, with ideas for future seasons on the backburner. and even though i still think of qw as overall an ensemble piece, i realized that jonah lee really is the central protagonist and our home character as an audience. so it made more sense as novels (that could become a show in the future), where we enter the world from jonah’s perspective and then build out from there.

but i think qw is a good example of how you honestly never know if the format is right until you start getting things down. i have written an entire 8-ep season arc and pilot for a show idea, only for a couple of trusted friends and betas to suggest that maybe it would be better as a novel. ages ago, a million moons in the past, travellers started out as what i wanted to be a book series, before it just slowly morphed into television format and really found a rhythm there (which was great, considering it’s so ensemble).

so honestly, aside from all the above thought processes (especially how visual is your idea and how important is character / who are your central protagonists), i would honestly recommend just committing to a format and seeing where it takes you. easier said than done, i know, but just see if you can get through the idea in one format all the way through. then chew on it, let other people take a look, and you’ll be able to figure out through their feedback and your own feelings on it if the structure feels right. like this sounds silly, but the story will let you know if you’re on the right track. but you have to give it the chance to breathe first!

Narcos: Tata Escobar, I mean I already loved her in S1, but I feel s2 gave more depth to her character, and I loved watching that, and I love her inner conflict between her love for Pablo, and having to think about her children safety. And how brave she is. How that doesn’t mean not feeling afraid, because she is always afraid, but she doesn’t let that paralyse her, she pushes through that fear and tries to protect her family as best she can, and ughh I love my queen so much! I miss her! <3

Bates Motel: Emma, but then again I don’t like her character in any season.

Breaking Bad: I’m thinking ep 12, Crawl Space. It’ soooo good it actually feels like a season finale.

Rome HBO: Well, my interest for Ancient Rome came back again a few years ago, and I have always had this show on my list to watch, but never got around to it because the copy I had was bad, but I was able to find another copy, more decent and decided it was time to finally watch it and it was one of the best decisions I ever made djsdjsds.

Breaking Bad and Rome HBO: hmm, I don’t think so? maybe for Walt’s caracter individually? he has the intelligence, ambition and ruthlessness of the many characters on Rome HBO, so maybe it could work out for him, idk.

Bates Motel: Actually we had that, with Emma and Dylan, I never thought about them romantically, and at first I didn’t think it was going to work out, but then they ended up becoming strangely fine. I never care for the ship, but they were ok together, that much is true.

overall, which show has the better storyline, 3 or 5?

Rome HBO or The Borgias: Both have it imo, but I’ll say the Borgias just because I enjoy the overall storyline better. I love Rome, but I think I should say that I only really loved the part that covered the “elite” and their lives. The part that deals with Vorenus and Pullo is one I just didn’t find interesting.

which has the better theme music, 2 or 4?

imma keep it real with you anon, i havent even watched most of ns11 yet. the only ep i actually watched all the way through was the first ep, and only once it had english subs, and then i got about halfway through the second ep before i just gave up. some of my other friends kept watching and gave reports on the episodes as they released and basically the whole time the story has been "this is really awful but there are fun gags or bits of plot sometimes" and like thats the very antithesis of what i watch ninjago for. tbh i probably will never watch the fire chapter at any point because every time i see a new ep has dropped i just have a little conversation with myself. it goes a little like this:

me: hm theres a new ep, is watching it self care?

because like, from the beginning i have watched the show almost exclusively for the parts where things get Real and Raw and Emotional and every time ive sat down to watch a season its always been a gamble on whether or not the good parts of the season will outweigh the garbage i have to watch to Get to them or if they'll even exist at all, because there have been more than a few cases where they havent.

ninjago's structure as a whole feels a lot like a large-scale version of episode 34. the first half is garbage to set up plot details. the second half is raw and real and visceral and just goes so hard.

but like. when i rewatch episode 34 i just skip all the garbage at the beginning and get to the good part.

when watching new seasons, it's always like im taking a gamble on whether it's worth watching the garbage at the beginning to have the context to understand the good parts at the end. sometimes, it is. sometimes, it isn't. sometimes, it really really isn't.

and like if i just list off my favorite seasons you'll see that they're the ones that are worth it in this respect vs the ones that arent. ns1, ns2 (the very definition of "frontloaded with garbage", but still it at least tried), ns5, everything that was retconned about ns6, ns9, ns10.

these days the pilot is nigh unwatchable, ns3 is Very Bad except for the last 10 minutes of e34, i have no opinion about most of ns4 since i never watched the second half of it due to fandom burnout at the time (and i probably never will go back to watch it at this point), ns7 is average but very forgettable, ns8 is even more forgettable since its basically an entire season devoted to setting up ns9, and ns6's ending sucks so bad that if it hadnt gone down that way it might have been my favorite season period. (interestingly, it's the opposite problem of ns3 - ns3 was complete garbage and the last 11 minutes elevated it slightly, and ns6 was god tier and the last 11 minutes completely tanked its appeal.)

anyway, all of this is completely beside anything having to do with this season. and when i get down to it it's really just about how like? ninjago has this problem where they just don't act on the interesting things the writers have set up and have to intentionally disregard any elements that would have made this shit easily avoidable. julien was taken out of the story in ns3 because the writers realized the whole story hinges on julien not being there to say "hi son i love you and also i built this thing that will make all of the technology good again" so they just had him ~mysteriously disappear~ between ns2 and ns3 because reasons. another prominent example is ns6, i.e. "hm we kinda wrote ourselves into a corner here how are we gonna undo all this damage ooh i know just retcon it". and then there's my theory that's like "ns3 is really rushed and bad and shorter than all the others because the hagemans wanted zane gone so the ninja would have an excuse to join the tournament in ns4, but couldnt find a way to justify zane being gone as anything other than a season finale", which is basically the same thing on a season-wide scale.

i don't really know or care about the details of the whole arrangement, whether julien is the ice emperor or the prisoner or whatever, but bragi has basically given himself a silver-platter excuse to bring julien back after he was shoved on a bus for 50 years and i want him back and most of the fans do too. i would have written more for this but turns out its already long and also this posted accidentally bc tumblr mobile doesnt have a draft option for asks. :/

Ryusoulger Episode 1 reactions! Aka, the episode that decided to come for my life.

In no particular order:

Okay, so maybe it’s a little ‘hm’ that Kou pilots the mech entirely on his own. But it’s not the first time anyone has piloted a mech alone--including non-Ranger allies. The first person who springs to mind is Commander Aya from Jetman. In GoGo V, the robot assistant Mint piloted the robot alone once. And besides, it’s only the first episode. We’ve got plenty of time for the others to get in there.

I’ll be honest. I knew the Masters were probably going to die. At the very least, I knew something bad was going to happen to them.

What I was NOT expecting was THAT.

Ryusoulger scores one for on-screen death and incineration.

First fight of the new Robo Suit Actor (I feel so bad I forget his name). Thank you for your service Kusaka Hideaki, I wish you all the best.

But let’s go back to the beginning!

Dramatic ceremony that apparently no one else is around to witness.

Wait, so if Mynasouls/Minusouls are already being made/Druidon already showing up, and just have never reached the tribe before... Does that mean Touwa and Banba have just been doing a really bang up job of fighting them off? I mean, I expect the stakes are raising sharply now, but... Could cause tension in the team if there’s a ‘the only reason you guys had a peaceful life for so long was us’ sort of thing.

Also, Kou having a little bit of prankster in him is super cute. Are you and Touwa going to get into prank wars that drive the others nuts?

Random fact I didn’t notice before? In the opening, when the others are flying all over the place and Banba is just sleeping? He’s holding two RyusoulKen. The boy is freaking holding his brother’s sword for him, that’s so cute.

I’ll see if I can’t use this video to get a shot of the pendant looking like it’s changing colours and put it at the bottom, okay?

It has since come to my attention by rewatching this that Mystery Scarf Person is standing next to a torch that looks similar to the ones used in the ceremony scene this episode, which could indicate that he is Gold. Or... Related to the tribe, at the very least.

But the most important question to ask as to whether he’s Gold... Does he has Chainsaw?

I am never going to get over that chainsaw thing.

Also looks like we may have Druidon we haven’t seen yet, which doesn’t surprise me. Tank dude is clearly going to be Kou’s rival, but maybe one of the other Druidon was responsible for what happened to Banba and/or Touwa’s Master? (assuming Touwa had one and wasn’t solely trained by his brother)

I’m loving that little shot where it’s Ui sitting alone and then the others come over to her and it looks like they’re encouraging her (well, Banba just stands in the back bc he’s a grump but also solidarity) and then they all look at the sky. I live for the implications that there’s going to be a theme of companionship in this series bc I LOVE FRIENDSHIP. I LOVE FOUND FAMILY. And given how they trio (and possibly the brothers, too) lost people so important to them at the start, I think they’re all gonna need it.

I like them cutting the logo free. I also like the way it looks like stained glass for a hot second before becoming the usual red and yellow.

Sentai mooks continue to be distracted by pretty lights and it remains their downfall.

Dan seems pretty fussed that Druidon showed up. But... If he knew that the other two had gone to fight them, shouldn’t he already know that?

What I love about this fight is that Master Red and Kou are clearly worried about each other. Red yells for Kou when he’s thrown, and Kou tries to protect his mentor. It’s cute!

Is Kou ever gonna be able to hear ‘Tata Soul’ again w/out thinking of this?

God... It was a gut punch when Red got hit by those slashes, but I was not expecting Pink and Blue to get fire breathed.

Also, yeah, there were better ways to do that, but that’s always true w/ diving saves. Maybe they didn’t thank they could pull them out of the way in time?

The complete silence was a good choice. IS this the same director responsible for that scene in Build where Misora tells the others Kazumi is dead? Bc this reminded me of that. If so... Man, you do ‘characters losing someone indescribably important to them’ very well.

I’m still not entirely convinced we’ve seen the last of them. Maybe only in flashbacks or as spirits, but you’re telling me you hired Sailor Moon, Tuxedo Mask/Kamen Rider Ibuki, and even an alternate version of Hongo Takeshi/some other dude from Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon (?) to kill them off in one episode? After those press announcements? Maybe they were trying to cover up what was gonna happen, but I’m not convinced. I mean, maybe their previous parts aren’t that big a deal, but it really seems like the went for a bit of name-recognition there... Are they gonna throw that away after one ep?

I will not deny I was emotionally encouraging Kou to get up and kick Tank dude’s ass right there. You can do it, sweetie!

Also I guess Tyramigo does talk, but... He seems fairly... Well, he doesn’t talk much. He’s got, like, two lines. I’d kind of like a serious, more ‘stern’ red rex. Hmm... Maybe the personalities of the Kishiryu reflect the predecessors’?

So here’s the jam. Doe you predecessor have to die for you to be the ‘true’ inheritor of the RyuSouls? Did Elder know this? If so... You dickwad.

Kou giving Tyramigo pets on the nose was super cute. I think I would kill for Tyramigo.

Also pretty sure I would kill for Kou, he’s very cute and now I love this actor.

Still very distracted by the way the Elder’s wig does not match his beard. What the hell, costuming?

So here’s my question. Do the special coloured Souls absorb the souls of the Ryusoulgers who die while tied to them? Are gonna have an ep where the team have to go ‘inside’ them or, like, summon the souls out of them, AtLA style? Are we gonna meet the original Ryusoulgers at some point?

Okay, but... The Elder uses the word ‘nakama’ when telling the trio about Touwa and Banba? At least, I think he does... Doesn’t that usually have ‘friendly’ connotations? Makes it seem like the two are less straight up ‘deserters’ and just... I dunno, went through the apparently necessary rite of passage of having your mentor/predecessor die before the others and were allowed to leave? I’m confused.

I don’t know why we needed to transform here, but I love the dancing mechs.

Also they did do a ‘three swords’ version of the ‘swords of justice’ thing. I am literally going to start crying--for very different reasons than this time--the first time all five of them do it together.

Still sad I didn’t get to see my boys in the preview, but at least I know they’re coming soon.

Also still can’t get a read on whether we’ll be hiding our identities this season. I kind of like it when they do do that, it adds another layer of tension to things, but it’s fine if they don’t, too.

Looks like Pink is gonna be yeeting her boys.

I’m liking this so far and I can’t wait for all my children to get together.

On the ED: I live for the dancing mechs. I could spend hours analysing everyone’s reaction to the cartoon Soul meteors. That was adorable. Still don’t know why Banba has different dance choreography, but it’s cute.

All in all, I’m enjoying myself. I don’t usually cry at shows, but I just... I wasn’t expecting it to go that far. This is someone who directed some of Build, I suppose. I think we’re in for more agony.

When did you jump aboard the Blindspot train: towards the end of season 1, I had binged the episodes that were on Hulu at the time and watched the rest of s1 live, (maybe 3 or 4 eps) and then was just hooked so I kept watching it throughout season 2 and now 3!!! its so amazing. 

Other fandoms you’re in/TV shows you watch: grey’s anatomy, supergirl, wynonna Earp, Brooklyn nine-nine, those are the mains… criminal minds too. 

Favorite Blindspot characters (main): I love all my girls, honestly, Jane, Patterson and Tasha. 

Favorite Blindspot characters (guest or recurring): I mean who doesn’t love rich? and also I was really digging Hirst as being the big bad this season OH AND ALLIE I CANT FORGET HER I ABSOLUTELY LOVE ALLIE!!!

I googled it to figure out what it was but its the “eight slim grins” aka Jane’s (Remi) navy seal tattoo that was hidden under a plain black tattoo in 1x03 this was definitely my favorite tattoo because it started showing us really who Jane was and like it was really cool

Favorite whatever you want: um, my favorite scenes are usually of Allie and Jane whenever they work together (it was like twice I know) but the first time when Allie was pregnant and like her and Jane were each other’s back up that was like such character development for them both because Allie was pregnant with Kurt’s baby and Jane and him were pining after each other and like they worked together flawlessly. 

If you were a Blindspot character, who would you be: uhhhh I would love to say I’m a badass jumping buildings and shit like Jane but lbr, I’d probably be in the field very little so Patterson, the brains behind it all

One scene that left you with your jaw on the floor: ouuu the end scene where Jane picks up the envelope from Rossi under the doormat saying she has a kid. that I was speechless bc I didn’t know that was happening. I’d missed spoilers and stuff for it and was thoroughly shocked. 

One dead character you would bring back: mayfair. or no actually I wish Taylor shaw was alive and was brought back to see the dynamic between Jane Kurt Sarah and Taylor. 

One guest star (who has appeared in less that three episodes) you want to come back: uh? I guess cade? idk and imbd says Blake has only been in 3 eps, so def her, I’m interested in her story and roman etc. 

One recurring character you’d love to have promoted to regular: tbh, Allie. I hated hated hated her at first, but she reminds me character wise of Addison on greys, I hated them both for interfering with my otp. then realized I loved them separately and they both helped get my otp together (ok even tho I don’t ship merder anymore but at the time) anyway, I really love Allie. 

One actor/actress you would love to have guest star on the show (and what would they play): ou interesting… I woulda loved when castle was still airing, stana Katie guest star as Kate Beckett. or maybe Mariska Hargitay as Olivia benson, since the show is the same network and set in NY. otherwise, um, I’d love to see chyler Leigh play some kinda pawn in roman’s game or maybe someone who worked with Jane like to help free the kidnapped people (thats what Jane did in some of those 18 months right?) 

One forgotten storyline you wish they’d bring back or answer: I can’t think of any right now? I just maybe want Sarah to be back a little more? and definitely have Allie back. again, I love her. 

One country you want Roman to visit this season: ouuu, Russia might be interesting. I almost said Germany but I then realized Berlin is in Germany so…. or maybe London too? nah, definitely Russia.

Hm, you know, the more I think about it, the more I hate everything about Ren and Stimpy and its existence and its effect on popular culture.  I honestly can’t believe how contrary Ren and Stimpy is to pretty much everything I value in a story.  Yes it’s had some good impacts but honestly? I blame it for the reason I can hardly find western animation that interests me.

First off I’m gonna say I’m gonna be harsh here because I have no respect for the creator.  He’s a piece of shit.  However I have nothing against fans and especially not against people who enjoyed it while growing up.  I didn’t watch it as a kid, but I did watch the cartoons (looney toons, tom and jerry, ect) that inspired it and its existence.  So I guess call me a hypocrite for liking those, idk?  But there’s a reason those weren’t originally made for television.

You see, Tom and Jerry and the Looney Toons were designed as pre-movie shorts in theaters.  I don’t know exactly how these shorts worked in regards to making profits, but my point is that their original intended purpose and profit was more akin to a pixar movie than Spongebob.  Television animation is much different than movie animation for a reason.  Movies directly make their profit based on how many people watch the movie.  That’s how profits work.

I don’t know if that’s how television works.  I know advertisers pay more money to have their advertisements during prime time hours or during big events, but I don’t believe that the amount of money they pay changes after the advertisement is aired.  I really don’t know, but based on what I’ve heard, that’s how it works.

That’s why, for years, animated kids shows were primarily long commercials.  Pretty much all 80s and early 90s cartoons were just toy commercials meant to market toys to kids.

Educational TV was one response to this, to create a safe space where kids were not bombarded by constant manipulative advertisements.

However, and I don’t know if this was due to laws like the educational TV movement or if it was just a natural response, there was another countermovement in the form of kids TV shows that didn’t care about marketing toys.  This is where shows like Ren and Stimpy came in and also why they were so influential - things weren’t simply as cut and dry as EVERYTHING being 100% a commercial and nothing else, but it was still pretty uncommon and revolutionary at the time to have a show with so little merchandise surrounding it.  Especially given how the show pushed boundaries in other ways.  Grossout cartoons weren’t a thing back in those days, and heck I don’t even know if censors let the old Tom and Jerry cartoons air reruns due to their violent nature.  Ren and Stimpy had both, and completely abolished previous standards of cartoons.  Not to mention, the fluid art style was radically different from the rigid styles of the past.

Unfortunately for me, personally, I don’t like grossout shows, and I’m not a huge fan of mean-spirited shows.  Now granted, if both parties are pieces of shit, or only the piece of shit party is getting their comeuppance, then I don’t quite mind.  But I wasn’t very fond of episodes where Squidward or Tom were unfairly punished by the normally ��innocent” party, who would normally win since they were the “good” guys.  There’s a reason I dropped SpongeBob in season 8 and wasn’t the biggest fan in the few seasons before (and I’ve heard it’s gotten better since then, but the Squidward diaper fetish ep was enough to make me forsake the show forever, sorry.  Still consider myself a fan of the old seasons though, and not even just 1 - 3 bc I grew up liking seasons 4 and 5 too.)  And my opinion on exaggerated art styles depends very much on how well its done and how appealing it is to look at.

I don’t find Ren and Stimpy very appealing to look at, but it’s not bad on a technical level.  The off-model stills make a fluidity of motion, a proper illustration of exaggeration in animation unlike something like SU.  It’s basically the opposite of modern-seasons SU - they’re both off-model, but Ren and Stimpy is ugly to look at while doing it right and SU is tolerable while doing it 100% wrong.  If that makes any sense.

But I’m not a huge fan of the exaggerated, off-model art styles in TV shows.  I wasn’t a fan of Adventure Time’s art style and I’m still not.  I didn’t like early season 1 SU (although to be fair, SU critics give it WAY more credit than it deserves, because it was off model a LOT and not always in a properly exaggerating way).  I just don’t like these “weird” art styles.  SpongeBob starred anthropomorphic sea creatures (well, and a kitchen sponge) so it was easy to come to terms with how they looked.  They were reasonably designed for the world they lived in, and were appealing enough to look at.  Adventure Time’s style is relatively inoffensive but there are other art styles that honestly kinda hurt my eyes.  Like I don’t care if you have a reason for it, idc if it’s okay on a technical level, it’s fuckin Ugly.  That’s another reason I dropped SpongeBob in season 8 btw - all the new characters’ designs hurt my eyes, and I wasn’t even a fan of the revamps of old characters.

In addition to that, again, I said I don’t like grossout shows.  Guess what started popping up absolutely everywhere once Ren and Stimpy showed up?  Not even SpongeBob was safe from it.  (TO BE FAIR, yes there was grossout in the original few seasons, but I feel like I just...wasn’t phased by most of it, or something?  It’s like.  Yeah that’s a picture of a butterfly’s face.  Yeah that’s a hyperrealistic drawing of Squidward.  Nothing made me cringe due to my high levels of empathy because - other than the butterfly, which was quickly patrick and spongebob being silly - it was never grossout towards the characters.  I don’t know, does that make any sense?  It’s like.  Not grossout because grossout is supposed to hurt the characters, and bad grossout often hurts the audience more than the characters but also I just wasn’t grossed out by it so it wasn’t grossout.  If someone WAS grossed out by it then I guess it was bad grossout.  I’m not a hypocrite it just. didn’t faze me as a kid.)

And, apologies if I sound like a capitalist right now, but am I the only one who thinks its actually a good thing when TV shows sell toys?  Like, obviously it shouldn’t come in the way of a good story.  But that’s the thing - it doesn’t inherently come in the way of it.  You market a toy around a story and a good story makes the toy all the more profitable.  Like, look at Digimon.  100% a toy commercial (not good at marketing the toy it was trying to sell, but I digress - that’s another problem entirely) but it’s still beloved by people for its good story and good characters.  There’s NOTHING wrong with that, and in fact I wish it was a more common business model nowadays because that’s the only way I can hope to get 1. a serialized story and 2. enough of a budget for decent animation if I ever apply to a studio with my show ideas.

Ren and Stimpy normalized the idea of both non-serialized stories and non-toy-based cartoons.  Both of which are things contrary to my interests as a consumer, a producer, and as someone who looks at business from a logical perspective.  Non-serialized stories don’t matter, I mean look at SpongeBob, it’s just a personal thing there.  But like...not making shows for toy franchises is kinda?? a bad business strategy??  Why do you think CN plays TTG so much?  It’s because TTG has all the merch and sells all the merch and SU merch and other shows’ merch is superbly hard to come by.  Adventure Time was incredibly popular and well-pushed by the network when it first came out (one of the few things in this I’m saying with absolute certainty, because I was there) and there was quite a bit of merch for it right off the bat.  And as far as I know, it was pretty successful for the first few years.  But now as the show is ending, it’s fallen into obscurity.  AT was CN’s old TTG, just without the quite as ridiculous airing schedule (it was more akin to Nickelodeon and SpongeBob than TTG, if not slightly less than SpongeBob - it was on quite a lot, though).

I’m not saying there isn’t a place for shows like Ren and Stimpy in the world, but like, I can’t BELIEVE how much of the supposedly good things it did aren’t good in my eyes at all.  It’s a personal opinion, but still.  I can’t really think of a single thing Ren and Stimpy did that I liked.  The only good thing I can think of is loosening up censors enough for stuff like SU and other lgbt+ programs to fly by, but even then, all it did was loosen the censors in general - and loosening those censors has made a lot of problems alongside the good.
