Three days had passed and little words had been exchanged between the two of them that weren't small talk. It was his fault, he knew that and he was sure it hadn't gone unnoticed by the other men. He'd drunk no more than usual that night but the conversation had taken a turn and now he was unsure if he was reading too much into it - if he was allowing himself to feel something that would end in him being the fool.

The road home to Cookham had been quiet, they'd talked amongst themselves whilst he had ridden up front and allowed himself to get lost in his own head. He was tired, perhaps not from battle this time but from the war that continued to rage on inside his mind. His intention hadn't been to ignore Finan nor had it been to give him the cold shoulder but his mind continued to linger and he couldn't look at him without his head spiralling. What if?

He'd caught himself watching his friend when he wasn't looking, on occasion a smile would form before he caught himself and stopped.

The first night home he'd intend to rest and sleep and he'd opted not to indulge in any ale or entertainment. But instead of sleeping he found himself laying awake again, unable to settle knowing Finan would only be a few doors way once he returned home. He waited and waited a little longer until he heard the familiar noise of them all leaving the tavern. Then he waited a little longer before leaving and making his way to the others room. Uhtred knocked on the door once before he opened the door to step inside, slowly making his way towards the bed. He'd made the assumption he wouldn't be asleep, not yet at least, a hand reaching for the others shoulder to give it a gentle shake. " Finan? "
