here's something i never really twigged before. so rung is initially set up as a really obvious buttmonkey character; he's the slightly harried nerd who constantly winds up getting beat on and you like him so you feel bad for him. you can see where the character is likely to go, it sets up his dynamic with the much more action-hero Skids, etc. all good, as expected, we see the archetype the moment he is introduced getting whacked upside the head, bless him. let alone the subsequent scene with ratchet fixing him and the broken-hands gag.
but the actual way that it gradually builds and builds until we get to the genuinely shocking moment of him getting shot in the head actually has not ever struck me before this reread. it's still black-comedy funny when rodimus uses him as bait (rodimus being That Asshole, the knowledge he's absolutely gonna be fine, just the general ridiculousness of the whole thing) but it has bigger stakes because that arc is a horror pastiche with some legitimate 'oh jesus' stuff in it. and that moment of 'oh my god, rodimus, are you for real' that gets hammered home when magnus chews rodimus out for doing it afterwards. then we get to Interiors and you have the cutaway moment where Max rips his thumb off and we see the aftermath. and it's really, actually nasty now, and not even slightly funny; rung is no longer the skinny dweeb who gets unlucky, he's the vulnerable character surrounded by ones who are very much able to outmatch him with ease. and finally we get swerve accidentally shooting his head off, and that completes the shift in tone away from the comedy to it driving home in a really shocking way that people who are not themselves covered in guns and still living weapons post-war are, you know. very much at a disadvantage.
it's really good gradual build up! we begin by being endeared to rung as the underdog, and by the time we get the big payoff, we get a perspective on what it means to try and live peacefully in this society after so long at war, by way of now genuinely shocking example. and the stakes being raised from slapstick to serious gives us that first hint at the fact rung constantly being beat on but surviving unscathed is more than a gag, but actually going somewhere.

I need to discuss the insanity that is Harry Potter’s trauma. So without further ado, I’ll delve in.
General childhood trauma:
-Orphaned and raised from age one in general neglect and abuse
-Specifically: confined to a Cupboard, denied food, physically and emotionally abused, full on neglected
-In the end and throughout via Dumbledore/Hogwarts: Under constant life-threatening situations, subject to authority figures disabusing and denying his realities, used as “pig for slaughter”, and having truths constantly withheld from him.
Deaths witnessed first-hand:
Mom and dad
Cedric
Sirius
Dumbledore
Hedwig
Dobby
Crabbe
Snape
Other deaths, unwitnessed but still v. emotionally damaging:
Mad-Eye
Tonks
Remus
Lavender Brown
Colin Creevy
Fred Weasley
Kills:
In first year! Quill, however unintentional
Peter, same but during war
Voldemort, nuff said
And I mean…Harry walked willingly to his own death after all of this…Wtf? It’s not even that surprising he was able to embrace it, heartbreakingly. In my mind Harry’s fatalistic… like, yeah, this has been a 17-year shit show, fuck it I’m done. But also the opposite…isn’t he also like, I’ve suffered enough, give me a goddamn break? What do I even owe you, you assholes? And he just takes it. Truly a testament to a character who embodies heroism and selflessness to an unhealthy degree.
Anyways, all of this equates to the most fucked up human ever IMO. PTSD galore on so many fronts and I don’t even know where to begin but so desperately want to write a fic that encompasses dealing with all this trauma (it’s soooo much Aaaahh!) It seems near impossible to do without a ridiculous amount of trauma-dumping.
Which is also to say: I have a problem with canon-compliant, post-HP stuff. It’s all too pretty-with-a-bow-on-top, even considering the Cursed Child story-line. Harry marrying Ginny, having three kids and becoming an Auror is just…absurd. At least without some otherness. Be it crazy trauma porn or something smaller that devolves his present/future scenario into chaotic nothingness turned into something else far more sturdy. Because in no world do I feel Harry ever should be an Auror, at not least long-term. (Which isn’t to say I don’t enjoy well-written fics where he is an Auror for the duration or not, don’t get me wrong!)
But thank god for fandom exploring all these things. Because TERF JK prettily wrapping things up does not compute to the insane amount of trauma she’s introduced.
Fight me. Agree with me. Land somewhere in between. Curious about your thoughts! 😘

TW: internalised abelism (but it gets worked on!)
Thinking about a fic where Harry was raised by Remus and Sirius, and after the war, Draco struggles with energy levels. Maybe that's because the Cruciatus curse left him with some damage. Maybe that's because he spends so much of his day panicking/anxious he's low on spoons for other things. Maybe he has ME/another chronic condition/pain. Up to you. But it means when he finally starts adulting properly for the first time, he struggles not only to adjust to life post-war, but to keep up with demands of cooking, cleaning, working etc.
Somehow, he and Harry are friends. Maybe Draco defected to the Order. Maybe 8th year was brilliant for them. Again, I don't really care, reader's choice. All I care about is Harry somehow learning Draco is resorting to not feeding himself because it's too much energy to stand and cook. Or because he has energy at random times and not food appropriate times. And Harry, having lived with Remus, who was used to fluctuating energy due to his little furry problem (hey, maybe Draco's a werewolf!), is like ??? Well why don't you just sit down and cook?
And Draco is flabbergasted.
He can't fathom it. It's not the done thing™. Malfoy's just carry on, limits be damned. But Harry rolls his eyes and just gets him to try it.
It works, obviously, and so Draco starts to think about all the things he could do differently. Eat whenever he's hungry? Because eating at some point is better than missing the window? Huh. Maybe that's possible. Carrying a water bottle with enough fluid to last a few hours? Wow. Making food when he has spoons, not just at the 'appropriate time'? Who knew that could be okay.
Little by little, Draco unlearns all the abelist bullshit he internalised growing up, and learns to work with his body, not against it. And if at every point he gets encouraged by one Harry Potter, falling in love along the way, then that's a bonus.

Disclaimer
(Especially for those who are particularly focused on Harry Potter canon and/or certain dynamics.)
In my headcanons and posts, I will stretch canon pretty thinly. I will rewrite and redo huge chunks of what we know as the Harry Potter canon. This includes huge changes in the history, the timeline, and the ethnicities of a lot of characters (read: majority of the characters we know in my AU are now BIPOC). Everything I am doing is purely for my own enjoyment and I just wanted to share the things I made with anyone who wanted to have a read.
I do not follow any Marauders fandom headcanons nor do I consider myself part of the fandom . This means my Lilys and Jameses will have vastly different friend groups than what you're used to if you're from the Marauders fandom .
If you're particular about dynamics, I am a fixed DMHP account . I don't post NSFW on this blog since I focus on worldbuilding and more SFW character building, but I'm just throwing this out there :3
Have a good day ! (My AUs under the cut)
Current AUs
Nandhini's Legacy - my main AU and the reason why I made this blog in the first place ! This is a Harry Potter AU where the Potter family are South Indian (specifically Tamil [James] and Telugu [Lily]) and the Black family are SWANA . New elements in the story include entirely new fancasts for the entire cast, the introduction of a Magical British Museum (the new primary antagonist besides Lord Voldemort), OC siblings for characters like Harry and Pansy, and several timeline changes .
Related Links : Families Masterlist, Fancast, Main Tag
pls ask me abt this au i have so much to say
Son of Hecate Harry AU - a PJO x HP crossover AU where Harry was born to Lily and James but with the additional blood from Hecate . In this AU he was taken away from the Dursleys by a satyr and raised in Camp Half-Blood . By the time he arrives at Hogwarts, Harry has already undergone one quest and is only at the institution because of another prophecy (not Trelawney's) . He is accompanied by fellow demigods and witches Yurika Haneda (Slytherin, Hermes) and Poppy Caxton (Hufflepuff, Athena)
My Mortal Companion - the AU in which post-War, Harry retains his title as Master of Death and believes his next destiny is to be the sole Unspeakable in the Death Room since he's the "only one who could do it" . Features Harry's relationships and dynamics with various psychopomps and death deities of diverse pantheons
Related Links : Main Tag
Favourite of the Fae Harry AU - an AU where Harry is highly favoured by the Fair Folk of Great Britain, but only in the way a human might highly favour what they deem a particularly cute pet . Includes tidbits of Harry being his mother's son because Lily was their previous favourite, and Harry having difficulties with socialising in the "proper" human way because he was used to the constant transactional socialising of the Fae

On July 11th 1274 Robert the Bruce was born in Turnberry Castle, Ayrshire.
Sorry for the lack of posts yesterday I was out the house all day, I am showing friends round Edinburgh today but will try and get a few posts scheduled, this first one is of course a "biggie"
I don't like repeating the same old story, especially on posts like this, The Bruce turns up so often in my posts that it isn't any wonder he is part of the Scottish Psyche. In 2006 Robert the Bruce came third in a poll of ‘most important Scots’, behind William Wallace and Robert Burns. Leaving aside what that says about the nation that produced, among others, David Hume and Adam Smith, Alexander Fleming and John Logie Baird, there can be no doubt that a king that ruled 700 years ago is still very much remembered by Scots today and, even more pertinently, that his life and achievements are deemed to be profoundly influential. It is hard to imagine Edward III or Henry V of England being similarly admired.
Not a lot is known about Robert's early life so unfortunately I do end up repeating parts of his life.....
Looking into how he came to be our Monarch, Bruce’s grandfather had come off second best in 1292 to a rival claimant to the Scottish throne, John Balliol, who then reigned for four years until Edward I deprived him of his kingship in 1296. John Comyn of Badenoch, as Balliol’s nephew, had both an arguably better claim by blood and certainly by power, influence and track record than Robert Bruce, for his own ambitions, whether it be just to become King, or for the sake of ridding Scotland of Edwards army Robert had to ‘deal’ with his rival before seeking the throne for himself.
In this fracturing and fevered environment, the would-be king turned to Bishop Robert Wishart of Glasgow, a man who had shown himself consistently motivated since the 1280s by a desire to keep Scotland intact and independent (though he, like most Scots, had on occasions been forced to acknowledge King Edward as ruler of the northern kingdom). We do not know that Bishop Wishart made Bruce ‘swear upon the Holy Gospels and the tomb of St Kentigern’ to pursue the cause of Scottish independence with his life, if necessary. Equally, no chronicler at the time mentions the introduction of elements of sacramental kingship that the Scots had long sought from the pope but been denied thanks to English claims of overlordship on the day that Bruce finally did become king.
If you've seen the new film about The Bruce, you will know it is all about the man himself, rather than the historical facts in his reign, and that's why I liked it, I mean come on, we ALL know the story by now and if you don't what have you been doing for the past few years as you haven't been reading my posts!
Robert Bruce, was a man possessed with the ability to think laterally and effectively on almost every issue but saddled by his own hand with one of the most dodgy starts to a successful reign as any in history. Some say he learned to think this way after observing William Wallace, I also like to think this, but he had enough savvy himself to be his own man.
The problem with looking at Scotland in those heady days is that, unlike England, we hardly wrote anything down, Edward and his constant war waging meant he had to raise money for these attacks on Scotland and Wales beforehand, so the English always had that extra layer of bureaucracy, while historians can look at some of their records to glean information about Scotland, we mainly have to look at Chroniclers, like Lanecrost, or the likes of Blind Harry, the author of "he Actes and Deidis of the Illustre and Vallyeant Campioun Schir William Wallace" And John Barbour who wrote "The Brus". In the first case Harry wrote his epic over 150 years after William Wallace's murder. At least Barbour was living in an age where The Bruce was alive, albeit for nine of the years, but events and stories were still fresh and must have been repeated often about our Kings heroics in unting Scotland and vanquishing the English. But Barbour was never going to write anything negative about Bruce, it was Robert II, the first of the Stewart line, that asked Barbour to write the poem, it was always going to be a great propaganda exercise.
Okay let's go back a wee bit, there has been some debate about where Bruce was born, some mischief makers even suggest he was not born at Turnberry, after all we have no diminutive proof, but at Writtle in deepest Essex. The Bruce family owned swathes of land down south, and there is no doubt the young Robert would have spent time in the depths of the English royal courts, he was not uncouth Scottish brute, he grew up in a world of fluid identities, no doubt speaking a number of languages, and with easy access to both the overtly powerful and impressively formal English court as well as the highly personal and personable style of kingship still preferred in Scotland.
One of the things Robert the Bruce may very well have learned from the English and used most notably was the commandeering of noble seals to be attached to documents of state in order to present a veneer of unity to the outside world, this is most notable in the 1320 Declaration of Arbroath, it has been argued he took this inspiration from King Edwards, Ragman Rolls, Edward I’s large-scale demand for Scottish seals to acknowledge his right to rule Scotland in 1296.
After Bannockburn and the Declaration of Arbroath King Robert’s genius as a lawmaker and diplomat to rival his undoubted skill as a military leader has also been admired, he had a fine line to tread, while he had gained the upper hand against Edward II's army, many Scots fought against him that day, or at very least supported the English. Even after his death some of those families on the losing side that would come back to try and regain lands and titles from the second Bruce monarch, his son King David II.
The pics are King Robert's statue at Bannockburn and two reconstructions of how Turnbery may have looked, by my Twitter friend Andrew Spratt.

You are way too nice to Death Eaters. Honestly you should probably check on that. Like, canonically both Blaise and Pansy didn't take the Mark but were supportive of Voldemort's side and benefited from the blood purity thing and in your posts it's always "There's two sides to every story," and "Everyone has a different perspective," which is right! But one of these side is very much the Wrong Side and I'm not sure you see it clearly. (This isn't an attack, I love your fanfic very much but it's a genuine concern.)
So,
The point of saying that there are different perspectives is not to say that therefore everyone's actions are justified. It is to suggest that most situations are far more complex than we give them credit for, that it is incorrect to believe that your reality and my reality are identical. That is what is interesting about exploring a story from multiple perspectives, you get to see how it changes based on everyone's personal view of the world. That doesn't mean no one can ever be held accountable for anything. It simply complicates traditional narratives which usually have a singular voice (a protagonist) telling the story. The whole point of hlayk (where Blaise, Pansy and Draco are concerned) is to take a group of children who were raised in a bigoted environment, and in the middle of a war, and show them as adults, several years after that, trying to come to terms with what happened to them and what they did.
Like:
It was stupid of him to think they could make this work. Stupid of him to think that George would be able to forgive him. Most days he can’t forgive himself. How had he gotten sucked in? Why hadn’t he seen it sooner? The darkness, the violence, the hurt. Why hadn’t he stopped Theo? Or Draco? He had stood by and watched the people around him destroy themselves. Stood by and allowed himself to be destroyed. And he can say that he’d been young but so had George. So had Harry. So had Ron. And yet they managed to figure it out. To this day Blaise can’t come up with a satisfying answer to the question of why. Why his first instinct hadn’t been goodness and kindness and bravery. Why those seem to be things he has to work on, build up to. Why. Why. Why.
I am very much trying to deal with what they did. This whole story is about grief and healing and Blaise and Draco and Pansy trying to figure out how to live with themselves, is a huge part of that.
While on the topic of things I'm trying to do with this story. Another big part of this, is looking at the ways in which men specifically are radicalized. The ways that traditional conceptions of masculinity make men more susceptible to this kind of fascist rhetoric / thinking. Blaise, Draco and Theo are three boys all struggling with what it means to be "a man" and they're doing so in this very politically charged context. "Manliness" is presented to them, as it is presented to many people, as being about domination. You are the strongest. The biggest. The loudest. The most important. People serve you. You'll notice that, if you look at propaganda for things like empire (in the British imperial sense) the language is very "masculine". Colonizing people is a very "manly" thing to do, it will help you realize your full "manly" potential etc. etc. etc. Blaise's chapter in this fic deals a lot with the ways that these boys get sucked into this extremist group in an attempt to prove that they are "men". Another reason that I like to have different POVs is that I don't really believe in redemption arcs in the sense that, I don't think redemption is something universal, I think individuals decide whether or not someone can be redeemed. There is a moment in this latest chapter where Hermione and Draco have a conversation and he is repenting and he's changed etc. etc. and she's like "dope, sick, love that for you, but I don't forgive you" and he accepts that. Different people, in different positions, with different life experiences, will be able to forgive different things. However, not a single person in this story doesn't think that the Death Eaters were bad. I feel like maybe that also needs to be cleared up. Like I am not, nor have I ever, presented the Death Eaters as anything but morally reprehensible. All I have tried to do is show that the ways people (especially children) get sucked into these things can be very complex. And that, I do believe, that we have to allow people to grow. That we have to allow people the space to say "I did the wrong thing and I now recognize it was the wrong thing and I would very much like to stop doing it" because otherwise what is the point? Like literally what is the point. Blaise says some horrible shit when he's sixteen (hlayk is not canon compliant BUT if it was) and then he just never gets to grow from that? He doesn't get to try to be better? He's just stuck? Like what does that achieve? How is that good for anybody? For what it's worth, I do try very hard not to engage with serious subject matter carelessly.

“What is this, Louis?” Royce asks, exchanging a look with Hunt.

Suddenly, their eyes met. A strangled sound came out of Louis’ mouth as he got caught staring, his lips still parted as he scrambled to find something, anything, to say. The alpha preceded him.
“Cazzo,” he cussed, the glass he was holding in one of his hands almost slipping from it. He looked as surprised as Louis felt.

M*A*S*H - Viewguide, S6
Are you interested in the long-running anti-war situation tragicomedy M*A*S*H (1972-1983), but there are simply so many asterisks and so many episodes?
Well I can’t help you with the asterisks, but nor can I help myself: I started watching all 11 seasons of M*A*S*H, and bringing back for you my viewing selections, chosen for The Qualities.
— — —
Would you like to hear a little secret? I watched the first three episodes of Season 6, and then the next day, I just flipped back and watched them again. I was so happy. I was on CLOUD NINE.
Here are some things that have happened this season!
(1) Charles! We’ll get to it!
(2) After a two season absence, the surprise and I’ll offer glorious return of two of their most regular directors from the markedly more chaotic, but wild & wonderful first three seasons, along with a handful of new writers who clearly really loved some things about that era that they’re eager to bring forward into this 25% new cast (150% new among the top-billed officers, at this point), and a reprise of some of that early days energy played over the last couple seasons’ greater steadiness underfoot, could make something like my platonic ideal M*A*S*H.
I was going to say I kept this to 10 but that’s not going to be true, it’s gonna be 12. Once again the order is adjusted a bit to what I think would be the optimal sequence in which to watch these, because I love you, and M*A*S*H (1972-1983).
M*A*S*H - Season 6 Recommended sequence
6x01-02 ‘Fade Out, Fade In, Parts 1 and 2’ - This terrif two-part premiere turns out to be the only one key Seasons 2 & 3 architect Hy Averback comes back to do this season, but a particular director just doing the first episode to set the tone is a long-standing tradition in television, and it sure seems to hold here. PLOT: Frank Burns is out, Charles Emerson Winchestahhh is in. In just one season, Charles has established himself my favorite technically on our side but it’s a technicality (most of the time) intra-community antagonist since Deep Space Nine’s Quark. He is a sublimely hilarious frenemy optimally designed to make me scream into my hands every episode in west coast public school-raised, New England private college-degreed flashbacks, or specifically: a Boston Blue Blood. Good lord I never saw this coming. It’s so specific??? I'm So happy.
6x04 ‘Last Laugh’ - And now we bring back director Don Weiss too! Not for nothing, this episode also brings back the more ostentatiously queer (all historical meanings) Hawkeye who tucks his chin into the crook of his roommate's neck and drunkenly asks the clerk to kiss him and hollers his availability to sleep with his male coworkers in front of superior officers. Meanwhile, Klinger has an invisible camel named Habibi, and BJ has gotten embroiled in prank war gone too far with his childhood friend, young James Cromwell. SEASON 6.
6x06 ‘The Winchester Tapes’ - I like the innovation on the letter-home format here, where with the way Charles is recording his to phonograph, instead of just VO narration overlaying loosely connected vignettes, we’re frequently just watching his live reaction to scenes that have just happened—which are largely him being unaware BJ is mounting a campaign of psychological warfare against him. This is more the kind of musing I usually save for the note posts, but BJ’s quietly maniacal streak has been an interesting development for him. [Ed. note from the future: oh, hang on babe]
6x12 ‘The Grim Reaper’ - Hawkeye battles Death (the Army statistician who predicts casualties). I could include this one almost entirely on the merit of Harry Morgan’s performance as Sherman, Midnight, Annoyed. He and Hawkeye also just fully start calling each other Dad and Son in this one. I like this; Henry was Radar’s dad, Potter is Hawkeye’s. Yes Hawkeye just has two dads. You know this to be true.
6x03 ‘Fallen Idol’ - This was that third sequential episode that had me spinning. Alan Alda writes & directs very possibly my favorite thing he’s done yet, if not even flirting with my favorite episode entirely. The script, the performances, some of these cuts—I yell! One physical injury kicks off a cascade of emotional injuries, and it’s all because they love each other, but somehow it’s all coming out wrong and everyone's so distressed. God! And it’s so funny! This is my ideal. Charles says the line “Where is the badinage of yesteryear?” The Heller of it all?!
6x15 ‘The Merchant of Korea’ - Can’t believe I’m writing this, but I’m actually not including the And They Were All So Cold episode of this season, in favor of the opposite: And They Were All So Hot. BJ wears capris. Hawkeye wears his arm cantilevered across BJ’s thigh for most points in a conversation where he’s not doing a full this
And that’s right: it’s a poker game episode :)
6x17 ‘Patent 4077’ - The Gang Invents A New Vascular Clamp. Sort of apiece with the one where Hawkeye & Trapper are trying to get an incubator so they can run their own blood cultures—I always like these Supply angles. Plus a good little Margaret side plot with Klinger & Co. trying to fix something for her too. This one is just pretty cute, I think is what I'm getting at.
6x19 ‘Your Hit Parade’ - Sometimes it happens to me in a season that there’s an episode where it isn’t, but also it kind of is my favorite? A quiet favorite, different than a favorite-favorite. That’s ‘Your Hit Parade’ for me. There’s so many small things I enjoy in this one, and they all pile up to a cumulative effect of me just feeling very fondly toward it. A lot of that freewheeling early seasons energy but on that steadier mid-seasons frame, the thing I’ve so loved about this season. Casualties are pouring in, Margaret and Charles are at odds and hilarious, BJ and Hawkeye are being charmingly ungovernable, and Radar is DJ’ing over the PA system the whole night with a bunch of jazz records that have just arrived. This episode itself: it’s jazzy.
6x20 ‘What’s Up, Doc?’ - Very good Hawkeye & Margaret episode. While it does not actually do the thing I thought holy wow are we gonna do, SO much does it feel like we could have that I often forget we didn’t actually do it. Some kind of ‘70s broadcast sleight of hand maybe.
6x22 ‘Temporary Duty’ - Hawkeye is banished this week to another MASH with Nurse Bigelow (who rules—shout out to Nurse Bigelow in the one where they’re all reading the mystery novel) on some sort of surgical technique exchange; they send in trade an impossible buffoon to stress BJ & Charles into shared schemery (thrill), and Margaret’s old bestie???! (THRILL)
6x23 ‘Potter’s Retirement’ - Someone is sending nastygrams to I-Corps or whatever about Colonel Potter’s leadership, and he’s like ugh maybe I’ll just QUIT. Spoiler alert: he does not do that. The most moving bleakly earnest line I’ve seen yet, and a Derby party where BJ has, incredibly, I believe come in character as Tennessee Williams. I swear, this season...
Season 1 • Season 2 • Season 3 • Season 4 • Season 5 • Season 6 • To be continued

Royals|1| Weasley Twins
*I hate everything that JK Rowling stands for, I just like playing with her world a lot. And I have always thought that Sirius, Remus, Tonks and Fred deserved better so here this is. Cross posted on ao3, ff.net, neobooks and wattpad.*
masterlist
Fred and George Weasley have always been there for Celeste Diggory in one way or another. From finding out that her real father was an escaped prisoner who killed Harry Potter's parents to her older brother's death in the Triwizard tournament to the second war that tore what was left of Celeste's life into tiny pieces.

One
I have never seen a diamond in the flesh
“Celeste! Can you come down here?” Amos Diggory called to where his children were working on the rest of their summer homework, and Celeste was behind due to a week-long trip she had with the Weasley Family in Egypt. Her mother’s idea said it would be good to focus on one child at a time. “Yes.” She called back from her room, there was a series of loud noises followed by an ow before she appeared at the top of the stairs, ink smeared on her cheek and her dark hair in a ponytail that was falling out of its holder.
“Yes?” She questioned again.
Amos flattered, he didn’t want to tell her that they had a visit from the Ministry of Magic right before she returned and he didn’t want to tell her that she wasn’t really a Diggory, that she was a Black. And her real father had escaped from the wizarding prison. “What’s wrong Dad?” She prodded as she started down the stairs and her older brother Cedric exited his own room and looked at his sister, “What did you do now Cece?” “Nothing.” She returned quickly, “I haven’t been home long enough to cause any trouble and the twins are still in Egypt.”
Cedric raised his eyebrow at her, trouble making seemed to be in her DNA, and she never intentionally set out to cause trouble it just kind of happened. She was like Harry Potter, it just flocked to them both. “Really Ced, what do you think I am, a Weasley?”
Her tone was teasing and there was a glint in her eye that was always associated with her doing something that she shouldn’t and in detention.
“Come down both you please.” Anna Diggory said from behind her husband, “This is really important and it can’t wait.”
All the color drained out of Celeste’s face as she came down the rest of the stairs, her brother stepped behind her, his own worry clear on his face.
**
“I am not your real father,” Amos said quickly, figuring it would be best to get it all out there at once and he instantly regretted it when he saw the stricken look on the younger Diggory’s face. “Are you joking?” Celeste asked as she sat up straight tipping her cat off of her lap along with the knitted blanket she had covering her knees. “What do you mean you aren’t my father?” Cedric was silent as he reached over and grabbed a hold of her hand squeezing it, he was just as surprised as she was at this. “Does that mean Mum isn’t my mum?”
“No darling,’ Anna started, “your father had a sister Aurora, who was killed in the first wizarding war.”
“So my real mum is this Aurora person?” “Yes. She was together with Sirius Black for many years.” Amos answered, pushing up his glasses, his eyes on her.
‘The bloke that has been in Azkaban for 12 years?” She had vaguely heard of him once at the Weasley house but that was about it. “He has escaped from Azkaban.” Anna answered, causing Celeste to stand up and shove her fingers through her now loose hair, “So is he my dad?”
Amos and Anna were both quiet and Celeste fought back a sob that rose up, “Why did you wait 15 years to tell me? Were you ever going to tell me?”
“We were when you turned 17, but there has been a change.”
“That he bloody escaped?” Her voice came out more shrill and hurt and Cedric rose from the couch and went over to her side and put his arm around her shoulders trying to offer her some sort of comfort, comfort that they both desperately needed. He was hurt on a different level than she was, he had been led to believe that she was his sister from the start and finding out the truth hurt. He wondered if this was going to change their relationship, there was already a rift between them at school, he was in Hufflepuff and she was in Gryffindor. She was a troublemaker, and he was perfect.
They couldn’t have been more different.
“That and we don’t know if he is going to go after you or after Harry.” “Potter?” The two asked at the same time. Celeste was more familiar with him than Cedric due to her being in the same house with him and being friends with the twins who were Harry’s best friend Ron’s older brothers.
“Yes, he is Sirius’s godson, and you are his daughter.” “Then why come after me?” She asked, her voice still shrill and hurt, “Harry is the one that he wants.”
“See Cece, he doesn’t know about you. When you were both he and your mother were on the outs for good, we were in the middle of the war and she didn’t feel right telling you about him. The only people that knew were us and the Potters.”
“That’s bloody ridiculous.” Celeste started, “A father should who is his child is, whether or not he is a damn murderer. Aurora was trying to take the easy way out.” She saw a sting of hurt flash in Amos and Anna’s eyes, their pain still clear over the loss of Aurora 13 years prior. But she didn’t care, she was hurting too. She wanted an answer but all she was getting were more questions.
“Excuse me.” She muttered before going back up the stairs and slamming her bedroom door shut.
***
Once in her room and knowing her uncle and aunt wouldn’t come up after her, she sat down at the desk and penned a letter to the twins, though she was dating Fred, she was close to George too, he was her best friend. And they would be serious about the news for a few minutes and then would crack jokes. And that’s what she needed.
She was halfway through the letter when there was a knock on the door and Anna stood in the doorway, a faded leather book in her hands, “I know you are upset Celeste but it was Aurora’s last wish that we kept you safe from him.” Celeste turned in her seat and looked at her, “Still doesn’t change that it hurts.” “I know and I am sorry love.’ She took steps into the room and extended the book towards her. “What’s this?” She hesitated about taking it.
“It's a diary that your mother kept, there are pictures and stories about her. And about your dad.”
“He isn’t my father.” the words came out more firmly than she meant to.
“I know, just read it and make your own decisions about it. Amos isn’t a fan of Sirius because of how much he hurt Aurora. I am sure Cedric would be the same if Fred ever hurt you.” That got a sad laugh out of her, “I think George would beat him to it.” Anna laughed and pressed a kiss on her forehead, “I will finish your letter. I am sure the boys are waiting for you to write them.” “Thank you, mum.’ Anna smiled and left the room leaving Celeste alone once again. She paused before opening the book to the middle of it, unsteady, “Here we go.”

And now I get to write about my devout baby, my strange fish, and the current love of my life. Big time spoilers under the cut!
So obviously the first thing we need is a little eye candy!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
All right, meta time, here we go!
By far my favorite character, and tied with his sister for the most interesting, Manaaki Kokiri was made in a blender to be my kryptonite. He’s got the religious conviction, the layers of guilt, the war trauma, the sincerity, the dumbassery, the ‘oddness,’ the sad eyes, he’s got it all and I love him. I’m not the only one either; he seems to have a way of winning the hearts of the white people around him without even trying.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Unless they’re clearly being framed by the text as Bad News like Miss Violet here, of course!)
Tumblr media
Of course I have to talk about the religiosity first, because where else would I start, right? Characters with religious convictions, especially male characters with religious convictions, are irresistible to me, and here comes Bible-totin’, Scripture-quotin’ Manaaki, on an errand from his Prophet (I’ll talk a lot more about Manaaki vis-a-vis the Prophet when I get to the speculation at the end). Like I said, I don’t know exactly where under the Christendom umbrella his religious beliefs are, but he’s got them!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And even when his life upends and he clearly can’t go back to the home where his religious self was born and nurtured, he still holds onto that religiosity because I think it’s the closest thing to ‘home’ he has left - though the pitch of that religiosity shifts, has much more gravitas by the end.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(I can’t do gifs, screengrabs are the best you’re going to get.)
And I don’t know how much of this is actually in the script and how much of it is the acting, but he’s just. he’s so. I know I can’t keep just slapping the autism label on every character I come across, but look at him! He normally takes care to be polite (when he’s not furiously trying to shame his sister) but seems to need minor social nudges - Charlie has to tell him to take off his hat inside the hotel, and both Cissy and Will Chambers call him ‘odd.’ He also has a very sincere manner - whether as a result of writing, direction, acting choices, or all three - but I find it very sweet.
And he’s a dumbass! Awa told him in no uncertain terms that she didn’t want to go back to the compound, that she didn’t want to be tied down as some man’s broodmare, and yet the moment she showed up all wide-eyed claiming that ‘oh I said I was leaving my director and he frightened me 🥺” he totally believed her!
Also, stereotypes about violent brown men are bad and harmful, but at the same time, brown men should get to be a little feral sometimes as a treat. Awa obviously knew Manaaki had it in him, what with the way she turned him loose against Alonso, even if it did end up majorly backfiring on her. And of course that feral side came allll the way out on the war front. Such are the things that happen when we go to war, you know.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(We’ll come back to No Man’s Land, don’t you worry.)
He’s as sexist as any other of the other dudes around him, of course, to the point that he has no problem being a judgy bitch to the sister who literally raised him. He obviously thinks the best treatment you can give a woman is to lock her down into marriage and see that she’s materially provided for. He clearly doesn’t get what Bea means when she says ‘women aren’t horses,’ and even refers to Cissy as a ‘pretty mare.’ (I’m gonna say more about Manaaki and Cissy in another meta, because boy do I have a lot to say about that pairing!)
We’ve gotta talk about Harry. Oh boy have we got to talk about Harry! I’ve already made this clear in the screengrab posts, but to me Manaaki and Harry are the show’s real gay soldier ship, so much so that one of them even dies - in combat, no less! (This in contrast to the canonically gay twinks that, to the show’s credit, do both make it out of the war alive and back into each other’s arms. Like, this show purposely avoided the bury-your-gays with its actual gays ... only for Harry’s death to feel like a bury-your-gays!)
Let me just give you a few screengrabs.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Please watch the show, you really do just have to see them together. The chemistry is. Wow.
And of course a major part of the appeal is that they’re so opposite, character-wise. Harry, a gamblin’ good-for-nothing shit-stirring contrarian scalawag, and church boy Manaaki (wink at @vintonharper). And even in the field, it’s Harry who’s running a little black market on his own while Manaaki’s out here Scripture-checking the chaplain and disobeying orders (technically) to avoid using a gun, at least the one time. And Harry gets Manaaki to drink, to accept black market ... onions, I guess, little things. You’ll never convince me they didn’t explore each other’s bodies at least once offscreen.
And I’m not going into detail about That Moment, or about what Manaaki did, because I have nothing to say. Nothing. It wrecked me, okay?
But the larger effects of the war on Manaaki are actually why I would argue that WWGTW is really his story. This is where the arc really takes shape. “Does the Bible not say it is a sin to kill?” he asks at the Smiths’ dinner table with all the certainty in the world. Then comes the death of Alonso, and the text really leaves it up to the viewer as to how much responsibility Manaaki actually bears for it, and it shakes him up; he initially goes to war desperately trying not to actively shoot anyone ... and then this moment.
Tumblr media
There’s a breath, after the gun goes off for the first time, and then the switch happens, and he’s a sniper now. Later when the detective first comes by and he runs to Awa in distress, he calls himself a murderer - “I’ve killed many men!” - and tells Cissy that he feels like a corrupting influence. And when Detective Blaine asks him directly if he would kill again? He nods. And later he goes back to the war front.
(Now this is where the show is handicapped by how short it is, because there isn’t time for Manaaki’s church boy half and traumatized killer half to really integrate so that he can become a whole person. It feels a little rushed, watching Ghost-Harry vanish into the night during the evacuation; it doesn’t feel quite right, watching him read Cissy’s letter and smile while the framing implies that he’s going to go home and start co-parenting his son soon.)
And the way he essentially falls into the arms of the Smith family after Harry’s death can be read as slightly unhealthy, their glomming onto him as a repalcement son/brother when he’s at his most vulnerable, and yet.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
That traditional greeting/farewell that Manaaki gives Bea especially, with the warm glow of the sun over their shoulders, absolutely wrecked me and I love it with all my heart. God, the feels it gave me! That ‘smith family loving manaaki for 1000 minutes’ tag exists on my blog for a reason, and I wouldn’t give it up for the world. Awa might prefer (or just have gotten accustomed to) a life of emotional reticence, but Manaaki doesn’t seem built for that.
(That there autism, see. Contrary to popular belief, we’re usually deeply social, we just need people in our lives who are kind to us when we’re not masking.)
Okay, time for some speculation!
I have a theory that the Prophet was a major father figure to Manaaki after the departure of the elder Mr. Kokiri. The bright-eyed reverence with which Manaaki refers to ‘my Prophet,’ the fact that the Prophet clearly knows he can deploy Manaaki to bring Awa back, the way Awa talks about how the Prophet intends to reward him - there’s a relationship there, and it didn’t happen overnight.
This relates to what I theorized about Awa and why she fled, because it sounds to me like the Prophet seized on the opportunity to groom two orphans, and Manaaki was young enough to be successfully molded where Awa wasn’t. Which also suggests that Manaaki’s growing closeness to the Prophet was a big wedge between them, and that the Prophet perhaps leveraged that closeness to get at Awa. Thus her (likely) cutting off direct contact with Manaaki after she left (“You found me, you clever bugger.”).
I don’t know how big a role the Prophet plays in Manaaki’s spirituality, though. He continues to be actively religious even after he’s lost the chance to go home. Clearly the Prophet gives himself leave to all the sex he wants, but Manaaki is pure as the driven snow when he meets Cissy, which is hardly the norm for young men who grow up with that kind of religious entitlement.
Because the Prophet clearly shaped how he views women and sexuality, Awa included; he reacts to the loss of his virginity with guilt, and yet he doesn’t seem to think less of Cissy for her clear desire for him. (Although I could be giving him too much credit, and the lack of conflict around Manaaki losing respect for Cissy could just be another result of the absurdly short runtime.)
Well, there’s more I could say and will say about Manaaki, but I think I’ve hit a lot of the highlights. He’s an amazingly layered and complex character, performed to perfection by Alex Tarrant.

Someone is grounded after getting spotted at Kings Cross. He didn’t seem to mind the scolding he definitely got much when Hermione brought the daily prophet up article up though.
I will raise my eyebrow at the order leaving Sirius alone unsupervised in the house with all the PTSD he’s going through. Yes, it’s a war and you all need to act quckly, but he is one of you, and he is literally at the headquarters. I would be very afraid of him doing something careless.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
See my heart breaks here because as much as the kids are right, Sirius just wants to spend time with you, Harry. He wants out of the house and the memories and the ptsd, sure. But he also wants to feel like he’s doing something meaningful. Honoring your father’s last wishes, and his legacy.
He’s also afraid of you moving on and forgetting him, as he cannot be there for you most of the time. He suggests Hogsmeade because from his POV you really enjoyed having him nearby last year. While him not wanting to lose you because he doesn’t really want to be alone is unfair, as Remus is literally living with him and you not wanting him to take risks comes from your love for him, it’s understandable. Sirius lost so much to Azkaban. He doesn’t have a lot going for him in his life right now. Keeping the things he does still have is really important to him.
Tumblr media
And here is the famous part. My heart breaks for him. Seriously (no pun intended). Harry loves you so much, buddy. No need to be so insecure. Nevertheless, he’s wrong.
Here’s the thing. I’ll bet any amount you want that Harry isn’t the first or the last person to tell him he can’t just do whatever he wants, because he needs to worry about going back to jail. I’m fact, I’ll bet he hears that at least ten times a day, which is precisely what set him off. Similarly to what Harry says earlier in the chapter (it’s on my previous post), Sirius thought he and Harry understood each other deeply. Especially because he shared with Harry things about his past, the abusive relatives, and how trapped he felt in that house, not being able to help with the order. And here is where the projecting part comes in as well. Harry stops being Harry and becomes Sirius’ dead best friend. So when Harry tells him “you need to worry about Azkaban”, he doesn’t take it as the heartfelt worry that it was, he takes it as betrayal. As Harry (James) treating him like everyone else.
And here’s the other thing I’ve been meaning to talk about for ages but never really found the space to. Sirius is 34, but he did not get to live a day past 21. So emotionally, that’s how old he actually he is. This is why he still comes across as rash and careless, and childish too, compared to the other adults. The world moved on, but he didn’t. So on top of everything else he’s dealing with, there’s this.
Which is why instead of handling it as an emotionally intelligent adult and a father, he snaps at Harry. In a very bad way too, may I add. Using his dead father against him is a low blow so big James himself would be mad at Sirius. It’s also not even true, because James too had lines. Remember the prank, pads? Yeah. I will call your bluff that he would have wanted you to risk being killed (because that’s what the minister ordered for you. The kiss. Not jail.) just so he could have you near for a few hours.
Even if it was true (which it’s not), but even if James was that level of careless, Harry is under no obligation to live up to it. Harry is Harry, and James is James. They are two separate people and are allowed to behave differently in different situations. So unfortunately Sirius, even though my heart is breaking for you, you were wrong here. But I think you know that too. You know you were throwing petty blows, and you should really apologize to your godson next time you pop your head back in that fireplace.

Reasons to renew Fantastic Beasts
The franchise’s future is uncertain, we can only hope for the making of a fourth and a fifth movie. While Fantastic Beasts 3 could end the franchise without the fans being frustrated over the ending, I feel like there’s still so much to see, so much to discover, so much of the story to tell. This post has no ambition of trying to convince WB to give Fantastic Beasts a chance, though I would very like them to do so, this is just something I wanted to do for a while.
You are free to add more to the list!
The summer of 1899
We need to see flashbacks of the summer of 1899. What the HP canon and Dumbledore told us in FB is so little to what actually happened. We need to see Albus and Gellert's first meeting. How they befriended each other because they're two solitary genius sharing the same ideology (more or less) and the same interest for the Hallows. We need to see them falling in love with each other, maybe sharing their first kiss (one can dream) and how it fell apart, how they drifted ways. I need to see Albus feeling trapped and frustrated in his own home until he finally met the one who completed him and understood him the most. I need to see how the Dumbledore siblings had to live on their own, the Dumbledore brothers having to take care of themselves and parent an unstable younger girl, without adults being around. We need to see Aberforth distrusting Gellert and how Albus neglected his family for Gellert. We need to see the three ways duel that resulted in Ariana's death and Gellert's departure
Gellert’s past
We also need to see flashbacks of Albus and Gellert before they met each other. We know next to nothing about Gellert's past. Who was he really? Where did he come from? Did he come from a pureblood family and raised with supremacist ideals? What did his parents think of him getting expelled from school? Mads Mikkelsen believe something happened to Gellert while he was young, or his family. Was it true? If so, were Muggles implied in this, thus explaining his hate for Muggles (it would also be a reason why Albus and he bonded, something tragic happened to them or their family because of Muggles). What were exactly Gellert's experiments so Durmstrang, a school reputed for its practice of dark magic, expelled him? How did he came to learn about the Hallows? Was Nurembarg a family castle or was it something he build for his quest?
Albus’s past
It would also be interesting to see the Dumbledore family before and after Ariana's attack, how it shaped Albus to be the young man he grew up to be when meeting Gellert, how he felt the status of secrecy prevented his family to have justice for what happened to Ariana. How he cared for his sister yet felt him having to take care of her after Kendra's death would mean having to sacrifice his brilliant future. How he came to have that ideology of controlling Muggles for the greater good and breaking the status of secrecy.
The 1945 duel
To see the 1945 in CGI (is that the right word?). The duel lasted three hours, what could possibly happened during that time? What led to that duel? Did Gellert surrender like Rita Skeeter suggested? Why? Was love the reason why Gellert lost the fight? We may get flashbacks during that duel, Albus and Gellert remembering their past together as they fight each other. Could you only imagine the moment where Albus won the Elder Wand? How Albus fought to have Gellert alive and imprisoned, rather than killed? Did they share a goodbye kiss? There are so many possibilities!
Newt and Tina
We know Newt and Tina end up getting married... how did they get there? Would we see the wedding? The long awaited kiss?
Jacob and Queenie
We need to see more of Jacob and Queenie's story. Their story isn't finished just because they got back together and got married. Will Jacob take part in WW2 or will he help during the war against Grindelwald? What about Queenie who betrayed Grindelwald and his followers and left them to join Jacob and Dumbledore's side? Won't Grindelwald and his followers try to get revenge? Not to mention, Queenie may have been able to read Grindelwald's thoughts. As skilled as he is, he must have slipped something from time to time without him noticing, so what could have Queenie possibly seen? Something that may help defeating Grindelwald.
Grindelwald's rise to power.
He may have lost during FB 3, but this isn't over yet. We have yet to see more of his rise to power and his reign of terror. He was the greatest dark wizard until Voldemort, and Voldemort only was active in England, unlike Grindelwald. Also, his defeat in 1945 isn't a coincidence... (I just hope they won't make him a wizard Hitler). The war against Grindelwald was most probably tied to WW2. If so, how?
Dumbledore's plan and tactics to try and stop him.
Now that the blood pact is broken, how will Dumbledore move against him? The blood pact broke in 1927, yet Dumbledore only really defeated Grindelwald much later, in 1945. Maybe there were a sort of chess between the two of them, trying to twart the other without facing each other in a duel.
The other characters
Secondary and tertary characters still have room for development, such as Lally, Yusuf, Theseus, as well as Grindelwald's acolytes. It would be interesting to see a couple of them being more than just acolytes, like Vinda. We might also get other characters introduced, either new characters or characters from the Harry Potter series, such as Bathilda Bagshot (she introduced Gellert and Albus to each other, she’s Gellert’s aunt… what does she think of her nephew now? Have her and Albus stayed in contact?), Hagrid, Slughorn, etc.
Nagini
We need to know what happened to Nagini. She went with Newt and co at the end of FB2. She would be most probably anguished about Credence joining Grindelwald and then dying, and would be angry against Grindelwald and pure-blood wizards whom she saw as the enemy. If so, how come she came to meet and stay with Voldemort as his most faithful companion. Did she pity him because he was an orphan? How come she stayed stuck as a snake?
Tom Riddle
It would be interesting to see Tom Riddle. Maybe in a cameo as he read with fascination the news on Grindelwald's reign of terror, or maybe even reading about the chamber of secrets. The chamber was first opened during Grindelwal's reign. Could you even imagine Dumbledore's state of mind? Him busy with the war against his former lover and Hogwarts, a safe haven for him and his students, being threatened by the opening of the chamber, him suspecting Tom but knowing he has no proof.
The fantastic beasts
To see Teddy the Niffler and Pickett and discover new fantastic beasts, maybe some of them will take an active part in the story, a bigger role, like the Qilin did.
Tina and Queenie
Seeing the sisters having their much needed reunion. Yes, it was important for Jacob and Queenie to find each other, but could you imagine what the sister had been through, away from each other? Tina, the head of the AUROR, knowing her sister joined the enemy, being afraid she lost her sister forever and having another, more personal reason to fight Grindelwald
Tina Golstein

Stranger: Is this man annoying you?
Albus, glancing at Gellert: Yes, but he’s my husband. I signed up for this.

*Rant Post and Harry Potter Spoilers*
Unpopular opinion, Dumbledore is worse that Voldemort. At least Voldemort made his intentions known since day one. Dumbledore was not only manipulative but also a horrible person in general. He raised Harry just to fucking kill him, like some pig to slaughter. And then when Snape confronts him about it he has the audacity to say ‘when did you start to care for the boy’. He puts all this pressure on Harry, a kid, by making him think that he is the only person who could possible kill Voldemort because of something he did when he was a baby. Not only that but he left Harry in an abusive household. I don’t care about some sort of blood protection spell or how ‘growing up famous is worse’ or some shit because there is no reason to EVER leave a kid in an abusive household. I’m not even going to start with how he let the one person who had any claim to him go to fucking Azkaban for something be didn’t even do when they could have just used Veritaserum to see if he was lying or not. In the first wizard war Dumbledore allowed for so many unnecessary deaths and that fucking angers me. He also allowed for Umbridge to abuse his fucking students. I mean I’m the movies there’s a scene where a kid is crying after having detention with Umbridge and George and Fred are patching him up while wearing matching scars. Where was Dumbledore when this happened? Hiding because helping his students might ‘cause suspicious’. I mean even after he died he was still chasing issues. I could go on and on about all the shit that Dumbledore did but this rant is already getting long enough so this is where I sign off.

Review of the Umbrella Academy - Don't take it too seriously
Spoiler alerts in this review. I binged the three seasons of the Umbrella Academy recently. I found it good fun, which is enough for a science fiction story based on a comic book to attempt to be. The three seasons strike me as very different in tone. I liked season two the best and season three the least- although I was emotionally invested in the characters by season 3 to not be too annoyed by some of its faults.
I couldn't help but delight that there were many nods to my favorite series The X-Files, but it never pretended to be even attempting to be the kind of high drama iconic series that The X-Files is. So the nods and winks were simply part of the fun. Begin with the premise that 43 women across the world who did not start the day pregnant gave birth at noon on October 1, 1989, and that the resulting children all had supernatural powers of some type. An eccentric billionaire adopts and raises seven of them in what he calls The Umbrella Academy. I didn't watch it when it originally aired because I thought the premise was a bit too much like Harry Potter meets the Magicians. However, while there are flashbacks to childhood in all three seasons, the story opens with the adult children, estranged, returning to the family home upon the death of the father. The son with the ability to time travel returns in the form of the child he was when he first left the home, despite after going to the future post-apocalyptic world where he has aged 45 years, been recruited by a commission to oversee assuring time travels doesn't alter the timeline (shades of Star Trek) and now has left the commission in order to join with his family to stop the end of the world which is about to occur within days of the father's death. The dynamic of the eldest of the children being in the body of a teen provides a lot of humor. Aidan Gallagher is delightful in this role.
Season one balances the over-the-top humor of traveling assassins in cartoon masks, a 1950's style robot "mom" and a man who has been given ape genes for survival and has now become large and hairy and confined to the moon with some frankly serious subjects such as childhood trauma, the consequences of being seduced by power, drug addiction, and the unexceptional sibling being the most powerful. The acting, special effects, and some beautiful shots make it a fairly good start.
The second season sees all the siblings trapped, apart at first, in the early 1960s when something wrong in the timeline forces a nuclear war shortly after Kennedy's assassination. The backdrop of the civil rights movement and the President's assassination along with a gay awakening storyline are the serious foundations of this season which allow the siblings and their effort to stop the end of the world to be all fun and silliness. In addition to The X File's repeated nods of The Truth is Out There is a cult founded by a brother through the use of Destiny's Child's lyrics. It is well worth the binge for this season and the comedic acting of Robert Sheehan.
The third season is something else again. There are great dance sequences and funny karaoke scenes. The series uses that actor Elliot Paige came out as transgendered between seasons two and three to transition Vanya into Victor in a way that asks the important question of why all coming out to your family shouldn't be easy and painless. I, also, appreciated the fact that the series tried to outdo Twin Peaks' weirdness with Hotel Oblivion and that the siblings learned the lesson that maybe they didn't have to be superheroes. However, I didn't like the addition of seven different siblings in the Sparrow Academy or how the child with autism from season two grew up to be a "monster" in season three. What a lost opportunity to explore the concept of exceptionalism among all the siblings and this character with autism without the trope of all characters with autism must die. In general, there is more meanness in this season, more gratuitous blood and cursing, and confusing mythology twists without good explanations. Although the ending where everyone lives and now doesn't have their powers and can just live life was worthwhile.
So in summary - season one - is a well-balanced series introduction of humor and drama with a prevailing mood of horror. Season two is an exquisite over-the-top time-traveling comedy-infused season with enough serious subjects to tug at the heart. Season three - odd, mean, bloody, confusing with shades of season's two humor on occasion and some serious life lessons along the way.

Hey! So, I’ve read all the wolfstar fics that you’ve recommended so far and we have the same taste. :) I’m wondering if you have any more? Thanks!
i definitely have more fic recs for you. :)
1) good old fashioned lover boy
@evermoreremus is a fucking genius. professor r j lupin returns. sirius becomes professor black. wolfstar raising teenage harry. i'm over simplifying because i don't want to ruin it for you. I LOVE THIS FIC, I LOVE IT SO MUCH. lots of wolfstar fluff and some angsssst?
(rating: T - status: complete)
2) more than three words
another @lumosinlove piece! sirius cheats on remus. this is honestly just pain and if you're a masochist like me, you'll love it.
(rating: not rated - status: complete)
3) a taste of honey
@biremus combined two of my favorite things: the marauders and the great british bake off (the great british baking show for my fellow americans who are confused). this was so fucking cute and fluffy. there's some angst but its fairly minor(read the tws). i feel like this is a really good one to read if you've just read something that broke you (see fic rec 2) and you need happy back in your life.
(rating: M - status: complete)
4) we were infinite
from @wewereinfinitelywolfstar. this was the first wolfstar fic i ever read. I LOVE IT. its a long ass fic(currently at 107 chapters) slow burn. ANGST, SMUT, and some fluff. its better than atyd (don't fucking come after me okay its my opinion). i've reread this about 50 times now thats how much i love it.
(rating: M - status: incomplete)
5) relic keel
@lumosinlove back at it again with her stellar writing. this is an island au. it kind of has an outer banks feel? but not? i have no idea how to explain this but its fucking good and totally different from any other wolfstar content i've seen so far. lots of angst, you also get some jily, dorlene, and o'kuntzy (which are haz's ocs and I LOVE THEM)
(rating: M - status: incomplete)
6) waves of magic
this is from @xivz. only 3 chapters so a quick read, modern/non-magical au, partial texting fic. reg asks sirius to come home for christmas and remus doesn't let him go alone. agh this is sad and cute and there's smut so there you go.
(rating: E - status: complete)
7) no mum, he really is my boyfriend
fake relationship fic. smut smut smut angst angst angst. also lily is a terrifying pregnant lady and i love that for her.
(rating: E - status: complete)
8) solntse
guess i'm in the mood to hype hazel(@lumosinlove) today, huh? sirius is a russian billionaire. remus is a part time call boy. there is angst and pain and some fluff and smutttttttt. i mean what did you expect when i said remus is a call boy?
(rating: E - status: complete)
9) clandestine
SPY AU?!?! soooo this is not strictly wolfstar... in fact wolfstar is more in the background here however ITS SO GOOD. it's mostly o'kuntzy, i don't feel like you have to have read sweater weather/coast to coast to understand this, and wolfstar is still there i promise okay i'm not totally hijacing this post for this fic, okay maybe i am but just go read it, okay? i binged all 14 chapters in 4 hours today. @heyitssmiller is amazing!
(rating: not rated - status: complete)
(also, if you don’t know, @wolfstarlibrarian has basically a million fic recs for wolfstar. it’s actually a legit operation… unlike me where i just say things like ‘this is fucking good i cried’ and then spam you with random other shit 😅)
bonus round: look, not to suck my own dick or anything, but if you enjoy long fics and slow burns, check out it doesn't change anything. it will cover the marauders time through hogwarts, and the first & second wars with voldemort. (rating: M - status: incomplete)

Exciting news for me to share!
A few select people are already in the loop aka @seriouslysam8 @thedistantdusk @celtics534 @ellieoryan7447 and @bellmel
But after talking to Sam about an idea I had -- which turned into multiple ideas after idea bouncing with Sam -- she helped me decide to make my wonderful world of ASC into a trilogy which I am calling
Kismet Trilogy
1. The First Time Around
Told in snippets and short stories of moments in the lives of the Marauders, from how they first met, to how James and Lily fell in love, to how Peter betrayed them. It will end with Sirius going to Azkaban.
2. A Second Chance
The story that you've all come to love. The story of Sirius only spending 4 years in prison before he is finally given a trial and able to raise Harry with Remus the way he should have. It is the story of Sirius Black and Remus Lupin as they learn what it means to be a father/brother/guardian to Harry while finding love themselves and the story of Harry Potter, a young boy with a loving home who learns about the Marauders from the two men who should have raised him and grows into the man who will lead the war against Voldemort. Slow burn Hinny.
3. TBA Third Story
Will pick up where ASC leaves off and continue into the future of the world and characters you've all come to love.
Why now you ask?
Well, I have Marauder memories that I want to use and sadly, they just don't all fit into my story.
I have ideas on things that I want to do with the future of my living characters in ASC and starting a new story might be the best way to do that.
And finally, because I am really excited to tell you that my world is not ending in the near future and I will provide you with more Hinny goodness and other couples to come.
I am calling the trilogy Kismet which is fate/destiny; a predetermined or unavoidable destiny; the property of being lucky; the, usually unfortunate, way of the world.
I think it sums up what I want to do and what I have done so far in ASC and I am excited to share this news with you all!
Chapter One -- The One Where Muggles are Filth will be posted this weekend (it starts in the year 1965 and is from the POV of Sirius Black). Many of the memories have been mentioned and/or shared in ASC already, but many of them have been extended and many of them are brand new.
I think it will allow those people who love Jily/Marauder a new fic to love in my ASC world and for those interested, it will provide more background on our loveable Marauders and Jily.
If all goes to plan, every weekend I will drop 2 chapters. One from The First Time Around (FTA) and one from A Second Chance (ASC).
Thank you in advance! I hope you like it!
