Vil: Did you manage to resolve the issue?
MC: Yes. It was a bit difficult at first, but the client listened in the end.
Vil: …
Vil: You shouldn't have disclosed that you used to work as a concierge.
Vil: Now everyone is bothering you.
MC: *smiles* That's better than doing nothing.
MC: I'm not here for relaxation anyway.
Vil: …
Vil: Anyway, I received news from Dad. A director, who is a friend of his, needs a stand in.
Vil: And he wants to hire you for this.
MC: Huh?
Vil: What do you think?
MC: …
MC: Is physical appearance a requirement?
Vil: He didn't specify. Although he might need you for doing action stunts.
MC: …
MC: Alright.
Vil: Hm. Great. We'll be meeting him this afternoon to discuss it.
MC: Okay.
The casting director: *after seeing MC for the first time* Oh my seven…
MC: …
The casting director: Their face, their eyes, their built… *turns to look at Vil’s dad* Oh, Eric! Where did you find such a fine specimen?!
Eric: *chuckles* They're a friend of Vil.
The casting director: *turns to MC again* Do you have any experience in acting?
MC: …
MC: Yes. But it was a long time ago.
The casting director: Oh? How come I've never seen you in any movie?
Vil: They usually played as a double at that time, especially for action scenes.
The casting director: A double? With this gorgeous face?
Eric, MC, and Vil: …
The casting director: Oh sweetheart, you are straight out of a fairy tale!
MC: Um…
The casting director: Everyone! We found our protagonist!
The staff: *cheers*
MC: …
MC: *smiles* We might've some misunderstanding—
The casting director: Thank you so much, Eric, for bringing me this one!
Eric: *chuckles* You're welcome.
Vil: …
Vil: Dad.
Eric: Er, I didn't know she was looking for someone to be a protagonist.
Vil: …
Vil: *has managed to convince the casting director to do a screen test first before deciding on MC*
The casting director: MC, don't be nervous. Okay?
MC: *nods*
The actress: Good luck. *smiles kindly at them*
MC: *smiles back* Thank you.
The casting director: Okay! Let's roll the camera!
Vil: …
The casting director: Action!
MC: *looks at the actress with a gentle gaze* *then subtly smiles*
Vil: …
The actress: …
The actress: *ends up blushing*
The casting director: Cut! Cut! That is perfect!
Vil: …
The actress: I-I’m sorry.
MC: *feeling slightly embarrassed* It’s alright.
Vil: …
Vil: Looks like you'll be doing separate work now.
MC: Yes. But I won't still be neglecting my duties here.
Vil: …
Vil: Have you told the news to Che’nya?
MC: Yes. *smiles* He was really happy about it.
Vil: …
Vil: I haven't congratulated you yet. Let's have a toast?
MC: It's already late and you have an appointment tomorrow.
Vil: You're right.
Vil: Let's do it tomorrow then.
MC: *smiles*
MC: Why are you still awake, Che’nya?
Che’nya: I wasn't able to call you all day, nya~.
MC: Yeah, I'm sorry. Something unexpected happened.
Che’nya: That you got scouted for a movie and received the protagonist role?
MC: …
MC: How did you know?
Che’nya: Nyaha~ The actress you practiced with is Neige’s co-star before!
MC: I see.
Che’nya: Congratulations nya~.
MC: *smiles* Thank you.
Che’nya: When will the taping start?
MC: In the next couple of weeks.
Che’nya: Hmm… Does that mean you have to stay there longer?
MC: Hm. Yes.
Che’nya: …
Che’nya: Nya love~
MC: Hm?
Che’nya: I miss you nya~!
MC: *chuckles* I miss you too.
Che’nya: *squeals* So sweet~! Bye-bye~! *ends the call*
MC: *smiles*
Neige: How did it go?
Che’nya: Nya love has no idea we're here!
*Both of them has arrived to the airport*
Neige: Oh Che’nya, I told you to inform MC.
Che’nya: Nope! I'm surprising my spouse! :3

The way Boston visibly loses his confidence in the second half of ep 12 and never gets it back. Idk how that made me feel but it made me feel some way.
actually you know what it’s not lack of confidence exactly it’s. It's UNCERTAINTY (with a bit of guilt and hurt feelings mixed in.)
he’s left with questions. he's uncomfortable. he's at the end of one thing and the start of the next... he's had some self reflection. he's had some honest conversations with nick. he's offered to be better for his friends—or try to be. he's gone through the process of feeling awful about how he ruins things and treats people: unlike everyone else. it's a sad moment, but he is, essentially, at the beginning of a journey about growth? (echoed by Nick, who leaves in order to find himself again—to love himself and think more deeply about his choices.)
the whole ofts gang has been THROUGH it. lord knows Boston has been THROUGH it. and now he’s feeling the weight—and recognizing the weight— while everyone goes on to confidently ruin their lives again. (hi mix :D)
anyway I hope Ton and Nick succeed in moving forward.

What I really think media with ensemble casts, especially those in a traveling group of some kind, are missing are big, blow-out arguments between the group. Especially when there's a conflict of interests, I am such a sucker for when two or more characters disagree so strongly that they realize very little is actually holding them together as a group, and wonder if it's time to go their separate ways.
I feel like a lot of video games, specifically, just kind of assume once the traveling band is "complete", it's forced to stay together until the player expressly permits it, but I don't really find that very compelling and a lot of times it feels more like they're relying on some kind of immediately strong bond that hasn't really been earned. Which is a shame, because in my opinion one of the best ways to strengthen that bond is to have the characters disagree and argue. Maybe they realize they're only being superficially held together and so they temporarily split up, only to then realize how much they've come to care for the others in the group. Then they reunite, make-up, formulate a plan to go forward, and boom, the group bond is that much stronger. Or maybe they don't even split up, and maybe they never learn to like each other, but they decide whatever cause their working toward is more important. Something else, bigger than them, is holding them together.
It just feels like a lot of potential is going to waste to just skip straight to the intense found family bond, without earning it.
#there are exceptions of course#like I thought it was clever how bg3 did it where the group didn't necessarily intend to be traveling together this long#and then once they learned about the tadpoles and the artifact it turns out it's either stay together or die#but a disagreement between them every once and a while instead of assuming they're all insta-besties couldn't hurt#and DA2 kinda circumvents this by Hawke not really going anywhere#so if Fenris isn't having a good time with Anders he can just like stay home and vice versa#but games like Octopath Traveler 2 would really benefit from some stronger disagreements#like my first playthrough Castti's ch. 4 and Osvald's ch. 5 lined up right next to each other#and like vague ot2 spoilers#but what I would give to see them hash it out#over whether to save thousands of people Castti doesn't know potentially at the cost of saving one person Osvald cares a great deal for#or vice versa#especially with how hardened Osvald's become it would have been soooo juicy#i get that would've been difficult to implement and that's probably more the job of fanfic#but that's just an example of what I mean#idk I just think more creators shouldn't be afraid to have their characters seriously argue with each other#because not every disagreement is a dealbreaker and can in fact strengthen their bonds#and like not every game cast needs to be found family! but if you want that found family effect you have to show them arguing like a family#poe1 is a good example of a group that travel together and don't necessarily have this tight bond#they just feel like good friends (mostly)#i had other examples that I can't think of now and may add later#I feel like I was going somewhere with this but yeah it's just something I've been thinking about#let characters fight sometimes. conflict is what makes stories good#edit: FE: 3 Houses was the other example I was thinking of!#like things get pretty dire in the Blue Lions route and Dimitri has some pretty questionable moments#but with the exception of like Felix hardly anyone calls him out on it they just kind of go along with it#and lo and behold Felix is one of my favorite 3H characters and his friendship with Dimitri is extremely compelling#bc their friendship was tested and survived#marie speaks

???? Bitch how could it NOT be about the fires are you shitting me. Yes you are correct it's a love song like what are they gonna say?? "Uhh uhhhh fire is bad and I don't like it burning my countryyyyy" for people to understand???
No but actually!! I understand sometimes lyrics can be up to interpretation and have double meanings and I also understand how people could listen to that song and it could remind them of personal stuff in their own life but like. that doesn't change the fact no one was lying when they said it was a song dedicated to the fires, it's actually very clear cut... no conspiracy here.

today in the wild I came across a phrase to the effect "...And this [pair of ethical axioms about what constitutes quality of life for purposes of discussion about disability and coma prognosis, based on the opinion of one person who has not ever been in a coma or disabled thereafter] suggests that maybe, just maybe, [relevantly comatose or recovering or disabled] people may have quality of life sufficient to make them ethically relevant"
that's ... not, um, normally considered to be what makes people "ethically relevant" in the world where all the people are and there's sunshine and grass and things, but, you know what, ok jennifer, A for effort! :) gold star for you, philosopher extraordinaire, moral lodestar for people unsure what to do with granny, paragon of ethical conduct!
#they had to put me in a coma because i declined really fast after pediatric brain surgery#it was not a long coma by most standards but i had to get so so much physical and other therapy about it#like i was out here relearning to walk and speak it was a really long recovery#people like this are of an opinion that people like me are ~simply suffering too much~ to be ~ethically relevant~#which i think is a particularly shit form of pseudobenevolent ableism#what degree of pain do i have to experience before the invisible hand of Ethics decides i shouldn't be resuscitated if I fail#how much does my life get to suck before jennifer here decides it isnt worth living and what will that décision mean#objectively of course i was doing all of this in ukraine so the opinion of this ethicist-panelist would not have been worth anything at all#but i was so close to like being euthanized like a little mop dog#not formally exactly but my mom told me once that she thought about smothering me a lot while i was in recovery#and it was entirely because she was terminally theorybrained about suffering and life-quality in the same type of way#and if it were a medical availability i probably would not be here because i was so absurdly difficult and expensive to raise#and its just like man. i am begging you to remember the humanity of the subjects when you put these things in science papers#im having an ok morning globally i just want to blog about this on the internet to get the thing it brought back to me out of my system#i grew up with meaningful and painful disabilities + the fact that my neurology miraculously knit together into something “more workable” i#totally coincidental actually. what if it didnt? if it didnt + i was still in pain from the sun and wobbled like an earsick kitten then???#that was the thing here like there was a 70/30 chance I would have needed a talking board and power chair#i am glad i do not but i am also very sensitive about this type of covert desire to decide about their right to live for people who do#i dont remember a lot of my childhood but i remember a lot of that pity laced with something i can now identify as revulsion to my pain#and i remember that i didnt understand it and that all i wanted was to be like other kids who were wanted and hoped for and believed in#and i dont know like its an individual thing its a family thing whatever but yesterday i had a weird trauma memory moment#that was about being displaced a little bit#which is an awfully vulnerable thing to put here but i am not asking for your sympathy i am just saying i was tender and a bit insane#and then i stepped on this rake! good morning insane asylum 《sunshine》#today will be a better day than this#im going to make the tags froshgriping and froshplaks for my bitching and personal sniveling feel free to blacklist them#froshgriping#froshsniveling#froshplaks

one day i might want to make a master post with all of my AO3-user tips because (and this is a toxic trait of mine ik) i get REALLY irritated with a lot of ‘advice’ posts that just repeat the same basic information in a patronizing way without offering like... actually specific input.
and i think ao3 as a whole is a relatively easy site to use you just gotta get the hang of it. in a sense i would really liken it to tumblr because one of the things about tumblr is that you can’t just join the site and then hit an explore page directly, that’s not really how this place works, you usually have to populate your dash with blogs. with ao3 it is significantly harder to just search up ships and works imo, it’s best if you already have favorite tags and how you do that is finding specific fics and then going from there and exploring in a branch off method. so once you use it for a while it’s extremely comfortable and remarkably convenient it’s just not really the easiest from the get go.
#nightmare.personal#i think a LOT of people talk about like. don't over tag. but idk do people know when they should and shouldn't overtag?#that's a specific thing i think about because. i mean TLDR i think when it comes to characters and ships#you tag them if by removing them from the fic you would lose a substantial portion of the fic's content#like a fleeting mention to a background character eh you don't need that#but if a background character is not directly pictured but is repeatedly referenced then yes i do say you tag that#though you can note them as being mentioned and i think that's a tag that filters into their main so#just helpful as an indicator#also as i was saying earlier you can tag pretty broadly#bc ngl there are a Lot of Really Specific Tags on ao3 but they honestly lack a LOT of tags that i at least commonly use#derealization and dissociation iirc aren't formal tags there so i kind of do my best to tag that anyway and then#clarify in the beginner's notes. notes are SO useful#i think when you approach something like a series of drabbles in one fic that gets a little more difficult to explain but#i think you can find a way to manage that too#it would just mean only tagging the most critical components of the fic or things that are sweepingly occurring#so like a several chapter dump of drabbles might warrant a whump tag if like 4/10 are whump centric#but if like 1 character appears in the background of only 2 of them i wouldn't say tag that#also having a table of contents chapter or very descriptive (non artsy) chapter titles + beginner's note is super helpful

Look I hate conservatives just as much as the next guy but I'm deeply uncomfortable with the "you can't reason with them they aren't even people" rhetoric that's really popular on this website. Anyone can be rehabilitated. That doesn't mean everyone will, but anyone can be.
#*distressed porg noises*#yeah really not a fan of the rise of. i guess i'd call it moral calvinism? the idea that like there are Good People and Bad People#and we just have to get rid of the Bad People in order to make our utopia#really shouldn't the goal be to remove people who would cause harm from the position to cause that harm?#if it takes violence to remove them from that position.... then that's just what it takes#but the whole ''you can't reason with them you just have to kill them'' mentality is. not encouraging!#maybe it's just because i was raised conservative. don't take that as me saying i have any kind of loyalty to that side bc that's not it#what i mean is that being raised on ''there are Good People and Bad People and we need to get rid of the Bad People''#then growing a community with the people i had been raised to believe were ''Bad People'' only for years later many of that same community#to then have those same people turn around and say ''no we need to get rid of the Bad People but it's different this time i swear''#makes it difficult to believe in the whole thing#i'm oversimplifying of course but i am tired. of. everything#and because no one really reads these i guess i can say here#that the whole ''they never really change they're not even human they can't be rehabilitated'' mentality that i see a lot here#is what drives a Lot of my suicidal thoughts. because i know what i've been and i'm not proud of it#hell scroll back on this blog enough and you'll see the evidence. not that i would encourage that#but sometimes i do wonder how many of you would be secretly glad that there's one less of me in the world

An important message to college students: Why you shouldn't use ChatGPT or other "AI" to write papers.
Here's the thing: Unlike plagiarism, where I can always find the exact source a student used, it's difficult to impossible to prove that a student used ChatGPT to write their paper. Which means I have to grade it as though the student wrote it.
So if your professor can't prove it, why shouldn't you use it?
Well, first off, it doesn't write good papers. Grading them as if the student did write it themself, so far I've given GPT-enhanced papers two Ds and an F.
If you're unlucky enough to get a professor like me, they've designed their assignments to be hard to plagiarize, which means they'll also be hard to get "AI" to write well. To get a good paper out of ChatGPT for my class, you'd have to write a prompt that's so long, with so many specifics, that you might as well just write the paper yourself.
ChatGPT absolutely loves to make broad, vague statements about, for example, what topics a book covers. Sadly for my students, I ask for specific examples from the book, and it's not so good at that. Nor is it good at explaining exactly why that example is connected to a concept from class. To get a good paper out of it, you'd have to have already identified the concepts you want to discuss and the relevant examples, and quite honestly if you can do that it'll be easier to write your own paper than to coax ChatGPT to write a decent paper.
The second reason you shouldn't do it?
IT WILL PUT YOUR PROFESSOR IN A REALLY FUCKING BAD MOOD. WHEN I'M IN A BAD MOOD I AM NOT GOING TO BE GENEROUS WITH MY GRADING.
I can't prove it's written by ChatGPT, but I can tell. It does not write like a college freshman. It writes like a professional copywriter churning out articles for a content farm. And much like a large language model, the more papers written by it I see, the better I get at identifying it, because it turns out there are certain phrases it really, really likes using.
Once I think you're using ChatGPT I will be extremely annoyed while I grade your paper. I will grade it as if you wrote it, but I will not grade it generously. I will not give you the benefit of the doubt if I'm not sure whether you understood a concept or not. I will not squint and try to understand how you thought two things are connected that I do not think are connected.
Moreover, I will continue to not feel generous when calculating your final grade for the class. Usually, if someone has been coming to class regularly all semester, turned things in on time, etc, then I might be willing to give them a tiny bit of help - round a 79.3% up to a B-, say. If you get a 79.3%, you will get your C+ and you'd better be thankful for it, because if you try to complain or claim you weren't using AI, I'll be letting the college's academic disciplinary committee decide what grade you should get.
Eventually my school will probably write actual guidelines for me to follow when I suspect use of AI, but for now, it's the wild west and it is in your best interest to avoid a showdown with me.

r/ukvisa is a treasure trove of useful info and experience and has saved me so many times by digging up home office policies buried on the website that could get a visa rejected but boy does it not take a lot for several people on that sub to throw disabled people/"illegal" immigrants/asylum seekers/the entire concept of taxation and socialised healthcare/etc under the bus
#yes it fucking sucks that we have to pay the ihs#it sucks double that you have to pay the ihs even when you are paying national insurance#i do not like being taxed twice when the tory besties with millions barely get taxed either!#the solution to that is not 'get rid of the nhs it barely works and move to private healthcare entirely' can you actually hear yourself#or to say 'well i shouldn't have to contribute to the nhs as i never get sick ever and i pay for private healthcare when i do get sick'#or 'the government is so busy bleeding money from us the Good Legal High-Earning Immigrants Who Deserve To Be Here and ignoring the people.#... crossing in small boats who don't deserve to be here'#i am not even paraphrasing much lol 'this government hates people who want to be here legally' is a running comment on the sub#my good pal they hate ALL immigrants#they hate some of us less than others but they're not after us bc they have some sympathy (???) for asylum seekers they're doing it bc they#see a cash cow that isn't their besties and are trying to make it ridiculously difficult to get in the country. bc they don't like immigran#this coupled with labour's announcement today that THEY would actually be good and harsher with small boat crossings and i guess kill more#asylum seekers as though that's a matter of fucking pride#has pissed me off ok#rhetoric in this country towards 'less desirable' immigrants and asylum seekers and refugees has always been vile but god#have suella braverman and priti patel really done a number on it bc it's so so unabashedly violent in the last few years#i'd also like to point out that people struggling to be in the uk 'legally' (quote marks for a reason) & resorting to other means is a#direct consequence of the hostile environment and how hard it is to get a visa logistically financially etc#anyway i don't understand the 'it is hard for me therefore let me make it fucking harder for everyone else instead of attacking the people#in charge who made it this way and benefit from us being screwed over'#the model minority thing got in our heads and infected us you gotta cut it out and stop trying to be the good immigrant and ffs don't do th#tories job for them#i am. mad. ok i'm done now#ukpol#immigration#abolish borders today pls#2023 is an experience#my post

I really like your stories, and I had an idea. I wanted to ask you if you could write a story where for some reason some of the Spiderman, like Gwen, Hobie, Miles, Peter P. With Mayday, Pavitr, Y/n and Miguel must take a car and Y/n has to sit on top of Miguel because there is no space left, Hobie is driving and he takes a lot of potholes, so Y/n bounces a lot on Miguel and he gets hard, so you know.. it's kind of difficult for them. If you know what I mean.
If it's not a problem thank you in advance 💞 anyway don't worry 🕷️🕸️
bumpy ride — miguel o’hara ( nsfw ). longer name. stuck on miguel’s lap in a car.
Tumblr media
“a car?” miguel asks, staring at hobie who's leaning against an old fashioned plymouth barracuda. “mhm,” hobie hums, raising his brows with a smirk. “why can't we just...you know...web sling to the evil guy?” peter asks, watching as miles walks up to hobie and the car clearly already fine with the idea. hobie pats miles shoulder, pleased. “come on...we're tryna be subtle.”
“and you think...” gwen gazes around at everyone. “...like, seven spider-people driving in a car is subtle?”
“eight.” hobie gestures to mayday who's hanging upside down in the baby strap attached to peter. miguel sighs. “we don't have time for this. just get in the car.” he begrudgingly walks towards it, making hobie's smirk widen. “where did you even find it?” you ask, beginning to step closer as well. “he probably stole it." whispered pavitr, as he walks beside you. you hold back an amused smile at this.
“nah, i di'n't steal it, mate.” hobie says, eyeing you both as everyone began to find seats. “i've always been a good cit'izen.” he watches as pavitr slips into the back, scoffing. you raise your brows at hobie, you seeming to be the last one to get in. “and you're definitely not someone who changes their personality 24/7. just for the fun of it.”
hobie shakes his head, that bloody side smile still present. “oh, i luv stayin' consistent, babe.”
liar.
when you opened the car door, looking in for room you realise that all the seats are full, gwen in the passenger seat (miguel having claimed that he really didn't want to see hobie drive up close), while everyone else almost squished in the back. your gaze fell on the closest person to you. miguel. he closes his eyes for a moment seeming to think, before he reaches for your wrist, pulling you down to sit. straight on his lap.
your breath hitches at the fast movement, your body tensing. then his breath is by your ear. “relax...what do you think i was gonna do?...break your arm?” you manage a scoff, shifting slightly so that you could a find a comfortable sitting on his thighs. “no...i thought you were reaching to shut the door in my face.”
“maybe i should have.” miguel mutters just as hobie drives off. throughout the ride your friends talk about a mixture of a plan to defeat this anomaly and how terrible hobie's driving is. and it...was pretty bad. he seemed to like the feel of the excelerator a little too much, as the car drove through radom small potholes. your hand had been gripping the back of a seat, while you occasionally bounced and were forced to shift on miguel.
miguel's grip had slowly moved to your waist, his claws digging in a fraction when you would move right along him. now at first you couldn't really feel miguel's growing bulge, one that made him slightly bare his teeth in a silent snarl. “are you trying to break my hips?” you whisper in question to him, leaning back slightly against his chest to reach his ear. he stiffened, you practically against him entirely. and god was your moving making his chest rise and fall a little quicker.
you had to stop moving so much, or... “i will if you keep moving like that...it's annoying.” he says, trying to seem unbothered. “i can't help that hobie drives like this.” you hiss quietly back. “and you know what's annoying? taking off my suit to see your claw marks.”
you shouldn't have said that, because the visual of you taking off your spider suit and the thought of you being marked by his claws made miguel's hard on grow. now he was annoyed, and turned on. extremely. he purposefully tightened his grip around your waist, now wanting to leave marks as he subtly kept your back to his chest, mouth moving to your ear. then you feel it, and your eyes grow wide in realisation.
thank god your friends were too busy talking (arguing) over something rather loudly, because miguel's hands began to very slowly move your hips along him. butterflies swarm your stomach as you hear a quiet groan in your ear, clearly only meant for you. “miguel — ” you whisper in shock and question.
“shh.” miguel whispered in your ear, your cheeks now feeling flushed. his breathing was harsh, as pleasure shot through him, feeling you rub against him, his hands still slightly moving your hips. “just a little relief...” he almost muttered to himself, but his mouth was still by your ear. “what are you...” you drift off, gulping down your own arousal at the situation, because the small back and forth rubbing of your pussy against him is beginning to make you wet.
“mm...eso es...” miguel quietly mutters, wishing he could move your hips harder against him, but knowing that that'll catch the attention of your friends. you tried to hold back a small groan of your one. “shh, you gotta stay quiet for me”
“w-we shouldn't...” you choke out in a whisper. but miguel's grip hasn't let up, his mouth slightly opening in a silent pant by your neck. “i didn't think you'd feel this good, cariño...carajo.”
“so...good.” he mutters, most of his words sounding as though he's speaking to himself. “i — i can move to someone else's lap...” you suggest, trying to keep your voice normal. miguel shakes his head, his lips brushing your neck. “no...y/n...you're staying right here.” and now you're sure your waist is tainted with miguel's claw marks.

Something nameless is growing between Steve and Eddie. Steve wonders how long it'll take until this thing has a name, but for now, it's enough that it's just something. Something good. Something just for them. A secret of the most delicious kind.
He doesn't necessarily want to lie to Dustin, of course, but he doesn't really know what else to do. Not as long as this thing between him and Eddie is still nameless and Dustin is basically cornering him in the Hawkins High parking lot, way too enthusiastic about the fact that he's there to pick up Nancy.
'No, it's not a date, you little shrimp,' he repeats for what feels like the millionth time. And that statement couldn't be more true: he and Nancy are long past their weird post-breakup-end-of-the-world confusion. It's been good to reconnect with her and he's glad that they can truly be good friends, now.
Dustin shoots him an unimpressed glare and Steve groans in frustration when the boy opens his mouth to retort.
'I'm actually seeing someone else,' he says before Dustin can speak again. If he has to hear him say one more time that he should date either Nancy or Robin, he might actually punch him in the face. And he doesn't want to do that. Not really.
Dustin gasps.
'Why didn't you tell me?!'
'Because you're being annoying as shit about my love life,' Steve shoots back.
Dustin already opens his mouth for some smartass reply, but they get interrupted by a high-pitched scream. Steve whips his head only to find Eddie dramatically running towards them, limbs flailing and a huge grin on his face.
'Stevie!' he shouts out while crashing into Steve like a cannonball. Steve huffs, but is all too happy to catch him in his arms. He knows he shouldn't let his touch linger too long, not with Dustin right there, but it's really fucking difficult to pull back within an appropriate timeframe.
'What are you doing here?' Eddie looks hopeful, like he's suspecting that Steve came to the school for him.
'I'm meeting Nancy,' he admits, feeling almost guilty about it.
'He was just telling me about this girl he's seeing!' Dustin exclaims. 'Can you believe he didn't tell me? Did you know about this, Eddie?'
Eddie's smile falls off his face within a split second, and he takes a stumbling step backwards.
'You're seeing a girl?' His voice has gone cold. Betrayal shines from his big brown eyes.
'Eddie,' Steve starts, but he doesn't know what else to say – not with Dustin standing right there and hearing every word of their conversation.
'Go fuck yourself, Harrington.' He spits the words out and turns around, leaving Steve frozen and Dustin open-mouthed.
'Eddie, wait!' Steve calls out behind him, but Eddie only throws his arm up to flip him off, without looking back.
'Shit, fuck, damnit,' Steve mumbles under his breath as he runs after Eddie.
'Eddie, listen.' He grabs his leather-clad arm, but Eddie breaks himself free from Steve's grip with force. He finally looks at Steve again, tears in his eyes.
'I don't wanna hear it,' he says with a trembling voice as he reaches his van and climbs inside.
'But Dustin was–'
'Dustin was pretty damn clear.'
'No, it's all a –'
But Eddie slams the door shut while the word misunderstanding dies on Steve's tongue unheard. Steve watches helplessly how Eddie roughly wipes a hand over his face, puts his keys in the ignition as if he's stabbing someone, and drives off.
'Steve, what the fuck,' Dustin's voice says; when Steve looks to his right, he sees that Dustin has appeared next to him. 'He thought you were his friend! Why didn't you tell him about your girl?' It sounds accusatory, and Steve can't fucking deal with this right now.
'Why didn't you shut your goddamned big mouth for once in your life?' he snaps at him.
Dustin's eyes go wide with the surprise of Steve talking to him with that much venom in his voice; it's clear that he finally realizes he did something wrong.
'Steve, I – I didn't mean to – I didn't know he'd get mad!'
Steve sighs, long and heavy.
'Go home, Henderson,' he says stiffly.
He wishes that the genuinely apologetic look on Dustin's face would be enough to make it all good, but it isn't. Not as long as he still has the look in Eddie's eyes when he drove away burnt on his retina.
'I'm sorry, Steve.' And with slumped shoulders, Dustin turns around and trudges towards the bike racks.
