Returning to the topic of the Fallen and Tarn.
In rid15, the Fallen had quite a time convincing Steeljaw to do what he wanted, as Steeljaw was already a pretty "why should i listen to you?"-ey thinker. In the tfp au, Tarn is miles easier to manipulate. On the other hand, in rid15 there was scrap and pieces of the Alchemor just lying around unattended. In the au, resources are being watched far more strictly as on paper the war is still ongoing. It's going to be a lot harder for Tarn to sneak off and build the shit.

You Are in Control
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
A long post ahead, so I put a cut to save space for you all. I hope this helps. A bit nervous posting this and I get a little ramble-y, so apologies in advance for that.
We try to control our external world by focusing on our results, but by doing so we give up our actual control.
Have you ever heard the philosophy that you can't change others, you can only change yourself? The same applies here. You cannot change the outer world without changing your own inner world and mindset.
The only thing you will ever have 100% control over is yourself and your internal world. No one has control over your belief system, as much as people will tell you that what you believe is not wrong, it's still yours.
On Traumatic Events
That being said, I want to talk about traumatic events in relation to manifestations and reality shifting, since I've seen a lot of people posting or talking about it recently.
I think people misunderstand that when we say our assumptions make up our reality it means we are therefore responsible or the cause of bad things that happen to us, including traumatic events or abuse.
This is simply not true.
I think it's incredibly cruel to tell people that their abuse or their trauma is their fault. It's not.
Imagine you are going through life with a blindfold over your eyes, but you are unaware that you have a blindfold on. You think you can see, you are not aware that you are blind. So you continue your life, falling over, getting hurt, running into things because you just simply do not have the awareness to even realize that you are blind. How can you be responsible for getting hurt, how can it be your fault that you were hurt if you couldn't even see the path in front of you?
Then one day, you experience something that causes you to become aware of the blindfold. It could be another person telling you about it, it could be just through random circumstances that you felt your face and realized, "holy shit, I'm blind!" Whatever the circumstance is, it does not matter.
So you take off the blindfold, and you suddenly notice that you have total control of your path, and now you can avoid all pain or dangerous outcomes.
This is sort of how I view trauma or negative experiences... And I am aware that my blindfold analogy sounds a bit "culty" because of the whole, "open your eyes take off the blindfold" shit but it's the best analogy I've got, so I'm sorry for that. I am NOT trying to sound like some bullshit person who blindly believes in the law without acknowledging traumas. Traumas are real and they happen to people.
Sometimes we are blinded, and unaware. And when we are blind and unaware, we don't have control. And it's not our fault for being unaware, because think of how you were before you knew about the law or about shifting. You were just living your life, you were letting life lead you. You were in survival mode. How can you blame someone for just being in survival?
That does not mean that you are the cause for any bad things that happened to you because at the time, you were unaware of the control and power you had. And that's perfectly valid and okay, whatever may have happened to you it was not your fault.
It is now up to you whether or not you want to stay in that state, and because you are now aware of the control you have over yourself it is so much more freeing. The blindfold has been removed, you are no longer stumbling through life simply trying to survive. You are free to create however you desire.
As a side note, I want to express that it is absolutely possible to heal from traumas. It is hard, it is very very scary, I know because I've been there myself. But it is possible... And the moment you do, the moment you free yourself of whatever happened to you, you will understand that it was never your fault. If anyone is reading this who has been through something painful, difficult, or traumatic... You didn't deserve that. You will lead whatever life you desire, whether it's manifesting a better life here for yourself, or shifting to a whole new reality in your DR. It's not about deserving or not, everyone deserves their own version of their reality regardless of the person you are. There is no good or bad, there is only a state of being.
I just wanted to end on this note because I think people can sometimes blame themselves far too easily, and sometimes we need reassurance and to understand that we're not responsible for what happened to us, but we are responsible for handling our own healing.
No one can heal you but you. Just like no one can change your reality but you.
You are in control. Do not ever let anyone take that away from you.
This post from 2022 in the Neville Goddard subreddit has a take that I find very helpful in also understanding that you are not the cause of your traumas.
If you've read this far, thank you for your time. Whether we agree or not, I hope everyone remains respectful.

hello, I don’t really understand your request situation right now so if I’m sending this at the wrong time I’m sorry.
But, I just read your post about Slender’s dark secrets, and I really liked it! So I was wondering if you could talk more about them.
Have a good day!!
I decided to dive into the bit about the...things Slender has done to the earlier residents.
Friends
"Why the Hell would he do that? That's a fucking strong assumption to make, Jeff." An offended tone slapped the walls of the Rec Room, unusually empty besides a proxy and a infamous killer.
Jeff and Toby have never really clicked well. Something about Toby has always managed to rub Jeff the wrong way: his walk, his love of talking too loud, his abrupt tics, and his unkept hair, for a few examples.
Jeff just didn't want anything to do with him. But that didn't mean that he hated the poor bastard. Even so, they had more in common than they thought. Not that Toby knew that.
"I'm just saying, it all makes sense, right?" Jeff faced his palms up with a casual shrug from the beanbag chair, "He killed her. And I'm not just saying that to piss you off or anything. I mean look at what he did to Kate. She's terrified of him."
Althought Toby wasn't entirely close to Kate, it was obvious how much she avoided pissing Slender off, and always happened to be missing whenever things got tense around the manor. Her burns...had he also been the cause of them?
"Just because he may or may not have done something to KAte doesn't mean that he's an evil creature. Why would he kill a random chick in Michigan? Slender wouldn't do something like that-" Toby refused to believe it, not after Slender had took them all into open arms.
Jeff pinched the bridge of his nose before dragging his palm down his face. He crossed his arms as he stared up at the proxy. "Toby, who the fuck do you think cut the breaks in Lyra's car? Who drove Tim's friend to insanity? Jack's culty origin? Fuck, even Jane. She didn't have a violent bone in her body until my incident. I mean, think about it, doesn't it all just lead back to him?"
"It doesn't matter!" Toby didn't flinch at the mention of his sister, but then again he didn't have anything backing up his claim. It made him angry. He knew he was right.
"Then ask him, Toby." Jeff nonchalantly scratched his neck, "And you'll come back not remembering a damn thing like last time." He rolled his eyes toward the brunette. "And the time before that, too."
"You're fucking with me."
"'Fraid not." Jeff tsked and wrestled himself out of the beanbag chair. "Start leaving notes for yourself, Tobs'. That's how I figured everything out."
___
"I'm not quite sure I am comphrehending your accusation, Toby. Do you believe I had something to do with Lyra's passing?" The Tall Man sat at his great oak desk, his spindly fingers clasped together on his desk mat.
"I-It's just sketchy. I mean, my memory is spotty, yeah, but right after I caught The Sickness, she died." Toby adjusted his seat on the leather office chair, scooting to the edge. His leg bounced. His nails were wearing thin from the abuse of nervousness.
"Toby, why on Earth would I do something like that? In no offense, it would be pointless to me to harvest such a small soul. From my recollection, Lyra did not have any great power that would have ade her a sustainable feeding victim." Slender suddenly furrowed his brow line, his head tilting ever so slightly, "You should know this Toby. Are you feeling alright?"
"I've been a little under the weather, I guess. I'm sorry for pointing fingers, everything has just been so confusing lately. I'm loosing track of time, and I can't remember what I did yesterday." Toby ran his hands through his slightly gready hair, and took great effort in slouching into the leather.
"Perhaps it's time for a mental health day. I'll adjust your schedule to fill in Kate for your shift in the next three days." Slender opened one of the larger cabniets in his desk, pulling out one of the many vintage tabloids he used to schedule his proxies. "And if we see no improvement, then we can adjust or change your medicine if needed."
As Slender set the tabloid down, Toby noticed a familiar face peeking out from under one of the many loose papers among the mess of a busy desk.
"Why do you have Brian's folder open?"
Slender paused, craning his head to eye the headshot picture. "I'm simply refreshing my memory of his medical history. No need to wear your heart of your sleeve, Toby." Slender quickly dismissed, waving Toby's concerns away. He seemed a bit more hasty to modify the schedule.
Toby's voice dropped into a gravely tone.
"Are you sure?"
Slender slowly lifted his head to look at Toby, who seemed to be fixed on a leaflet.
Kate. More specififcally, Kate's fresh burns from so many years ago, all photographed and on display. The nights of restless sleep must have finally caught up to Slender, and forgot to tuck them away before allowing Toby to burst in.
"Did Brian do that to Kate?"
"I will now be asking you to leave, Toby, this is a breach of confidential information on Kate's behalf. I'll adjust your schedule. Have a lovely vacation." And even though the words seems so considerate, Slender stood at full height, a tendril slithering around the front of the desk to tuck any pictures under loose papers. "Leave."
Maybe Jeff was right.
Toby stood quickly, and pivoted on he heels to walk out of the room. But something stopped him. An unforeseen force keeping his body in place.
"Absterge rasa, a medietate prius. Mote fiat."
Toby turned, his brows furrowed in confusion. "Y'know, your German sometimes sounds really weird!" He laughed, "Anyway, I gotta drop that paper off to Jeff, you said he's in the Rec Room, right?"

- introduction to writeblr -
Tumblr media
p e r s o n a l i n f o
hi !! i'm em, i'm 18, almost 19, and i use she/they pronouns. writing's always been part of my life, i've just never actually believed i could do it. so, here i am, yada yada yada more cheesy shit. anyways, i'm in college so my activity levels are all over the place, i'm hoping having a blog to even myself out and make myself stay consistent will actually work. i love all things dark, gloomy, scary, and puzzle-ey, which goes without saying that my hobbies follow the same tragectory. i've been playing piano since i was four years old and i love writing music, solving puzzles, writing and reading (goes without saying frankly).
a b o u t m y w r i t i n g
let’s get into it, shall we? i really like a blether, and by that i mean i’m indecisive beyond words. my most common genres in the overarching sense is urban fantasy combined with cosmic horror, and high fantasy. i love worldbuilding don’t come for me i’m sensitive.
but in terms of smaller little motifs and themes, i love delving into folklore (slavic and north african, gotta stick to my roots), low fantasy and surrealism, political intrigue, dark romanticism, gothic horror, monster girls, lesbians, a good ole butch/femme dynamic, dead people, ghosts, generational stories, and of course, anything you could listen to depeche mode while reading.
w i p i n f o
jesus it’s uh, um, it’s a mess in here, please ignore the state of my mind rn, all titles are subject to change, for now i'll be titling them by vibe and vibe alone, these will probably be their tags for the forseeable future, also they're all gay
no guts, all gory
a story of suspicious internships, monsterous girls, the desire for knowledge, dead people, things man was not mean to see, and lunch dates with your coworkers. [ low fantasy / surrealism / cosmic horror ]
baba yaga's moving castle
a story of matriarchies, political intrigue, slavic folklore. [ high fantasy / multiple povs ]
gas station prophecies
a story of gas station prophets, things in the fog, shadows in the woods, spooky towns and liminal spaces, odd summer vacations, and some very important realizations. [ low fantasy / surrealism / gothic horror / coming of age ]
saints of nothing at all
a story of secret societies that are worse than they seem, culty schools, ✨cunty✨outfits, mean girls, meaner lesbians, himbos, ballroom dancing, and just a little bit of a roll in the uncanny valley. [ surrealism / hauntings / gothic horror / academia ]

Y'know, some people have been complaining about the culty nature of thrawn's forces, saying it don't make sense, because thrawn's "pragmatic" or something
I think it makes perfect sense
For one, they've been stranded and cut off for a decade, things are bound to get a bit weird, just look up what happened to real life explores stranded or cut off far from civilization
And cults of personality are very common in military dictatorships
Shockingly, that's what thrawn is running here, he was not elected
And building a cult of personality around himself is a good way for thrawn to maintain order and authority over his forces
They have been cut off from the rest of the empire for a decade, there's no one higher up in the chain of command like Vader, Tarkin, or Palpatine to affirm his authority (and those guys are dead too), and thrawn does not have the power to personally and physically enforce his control, so he must resort to other means
And as we see in mando s3, not all the remnant factions are so keen about thrawn as leader, so having a force of fanatic loyalists could come in handy
Also consider what thrawn is offering to the imps:
"Through loyalty to me there will be salvation, a return home and restoration of the empire"
Sounds pretty culty to me
And consider thrawn's alliance with the Nightsisters
Is it not possible that he could be styling himself as the subject of a prophecy (whether it's real or made up by the mothers on thrawn's behalf) as a means to an end for ensuring the faith and loyalty of his soldiers?

I feel like if Charlie had actually ran as himself and not Gegg than he would be winning in a landslide. He’s so smart and actually makes such great points, the only problems are the bits he has committed to.
Because he has to only use signs and only say a few words at a time, his freedom of speech is very limited making it harder to make his points. He has to constantly be writing things down and if no one decides to read what he wrote it can be completely ignored. Seen when he was trying to argue with Celbit and him just not reading any of the signs (mostly because he was busying arguing with others at the time and probably just didn’t notice them.) Charlie has a really good voice it’s strong and he’s very charismatic. We’re not seeing a lot of that with Gegg though, Gegg’s voice isn’t commanding like Charlie’s can be, it’s scratchy and hard to understand (which is the point but still) it makes it difficult to want to listen to it. Charlie has played several characters and has the ability to make his voice very loud, or threatening as well as soft and very happy go lucky. This can be very beneficial for his campaign as he can participate in the debates more.
The other bit is the whole we are Gegg thing, which I understand is more of a we are all one but it comes off as weird, kinda culty. It just struggles to come across as Charlie wants it to because of Gegg, his constant referring to stuff as Gegg-something or something-Gegg makes it hard to understand the point. If Charlie wasn’t Gegg then this point could be better construed.
The last bit that really damns him is the whole burn the world. If toned down a little of not the whole world but mostly the government then it might come better across or at least explained better. Also by him running as Gegg a lot of people have taken it as a joke, meaning they might not even consider Gegg to be a real opinion.
On the other hand if Charlie has run as himself it would make winning harder too, especially when going against the others.
People shut up when Gegg gets his turn because he writes it all down, if it was just Charlie speaking there is a lot more of a likelihood that he will be talked over or interrupted like the other candidates.
Also being an egg gives him more of a sense of security, despite everyone knowing that he’s Gegg, they still treat him like an egg when it comes to certain things. They jump to his aid a lot faster and have more of an instinct to protect him.
Maybe it’s Charlie himself or Gegg but a lot of people also just go with the bit with him. He’s funny to them and it makes them play along more. No one’s calling out the whole burn the world thing because it funny, it’s this little egg that wants to burn shit. It makes his actions less questionable.
All together both of them have their ups and downs. Which is why it would have been cool to have them be co runners. In all actuality it would be hard to pull of especially with Charlie not wanting people to know he’s Gegg but if they could have Charlie sometimes talk in his actual voice at least for arguing parts or explaining things better it would be a lot more helpful. Listening to Charlie talk to BBH and seeing how easy Charlie seemed to get him on the same page makes me think if Charlie was talking then they could convince a lot more people of their standing.
Also I wish that they would have everyone speak in their actual languages and have the translators fixed. It would solve a lot of issues. People would most likely listen more and they have to read what’s said like with Gegg and it makes it more comfortable for those who don’t speak English. It’s hard to get points across when you don’t know the right words.

the serpent files (teaser)
[clears throat] "Let’s get your statement, then. Do go on as coherently as possible, please. It will all be… it will all be tickety-boo, I’m– I hope. The sooner we record this, the sooner we can try to, to look into it, to help you. But to help you, I really need to know what happened, Crowley. Please. I do so want to help. You’re a… friend.”
[audible inhale] “Okay. Okay, I’ll try. [laughs nervously] Tickety-boo?”
“Alright. Let’s begin again. Statement of Anthony J. Crowley, regarding strange occurrences in relation to an ouroboros necklace with a sword pendant. Original statement given May 31st, 2019. Audio-recording by Az Fell, Head Archivist of the Eden Institute, London. Statement begins:”
“Okay. So. It all started a month ago. Boss gave me this assignment – well, not directly, he sent Hastur and Ligur.”
“Full names, please.”
“You think I know their full names? This is a crime ring, not a family. I mean, I know my boss as Lucifer Morningstar, but I really don’t think that’s his real name.”
“Doubtful. Fair enough. Full names wherever possible, please.”
“So Hastur and Ligur called,  wanted to meet up. In this stupid graveyard of all places, just their style. They’re the kind of people who, dunno, lurk? Like some kinda wannabe villains. Professional lurkers. Is that a thing? Lurking contests? Dunno. Well, it’s the only thing they’re actually good at. Uh, were. Suppose. I keep forgetting. Weird, because I also can’t forget at all. Fucking haunting, actually. But back then they gave me this package, said they had a job for me. Assignment, that’s what we call it, for some weird culty reason, I guess. Then Ligur said something like ‘Ciao, Crowley, wow you look so cool, why are you always so cool and impeccably dressed? I’m so jealous of you Crowley, I wish I could–”
“That’s not what he said, is it.”
“Perceptive, angel.”
“A-angel?”
“Uhm. Az Fell. Angel, Azfell, tomato, tomato. Mumbling, bad habit. No, it’s not what he said. Was trying to, mh, lighten the mood. You look so nervous.”
“Me? I’m not nervous. [pause] Crowley, it’s normal to be troubled by all this. [shuffling noises] I understand. [long pause] Ready to go on?”
“Y- yeah. Uh. Thanks.  I’m okay, really. Not like I cared about them or anything. But what happened… talking about it, remembering, reconstructing, it’s a bit like looking where the furniture isn’t. Like, like chess pieces on a board without black and white squares."

lolololol fine, twist my arm why don't you, here are my Gabrielle and Imogen thoughts.
Ok, so, one thing I like to turn around in my mind and talk a lot about is how Gabrielle’s moral confidence was shaken after the Rift (for non-Xena-fan followers, this was a series of events that put Xena and Gabrielle at odds and culminated in Gabrielle’s demon-spawn daughter killing Xena’s son, and Gabrielle having to kill her daughter like, twice (neither one stuck)(lol)). She went from having a very strong concept of her own internal moral framework to being unsure and casting about for something she could adhere to in order to regain some sense of knowing The Right Thing To Do. She became even more vulnerable to culty people like Najara and Aiden and Eli, because she was desperately seeking an external scaffolding to hang her morals on because she no longer trusted herself. This lead directly into her misguided pacifism arc, and then into her decision to ultimately put aside that search for her own path in order to follow Xena’s full warrior path, which is really the great tragedy of her character.
Imogen does not reach that point through the same means, of course, but she likewise struggles quite a bit with trusting her own moral sense. She is constantly asking others whether people or actions are good or bad, and second guessing her own actions and worth and motivations. She desperately wants the answers to be easy because they never have been and she is exhausted. She thinks she might be tainted; how can she trust herself to make the right calls? And I think that makes her more likely to both want to believe in authority figures and to be particularly let down by them not being all they’re cracked up to be. Had the Vanguard found her before Laudna, it’s very possible they would have been able to recruit her against her better instincts. I don’t think she would be a true believer and would ultimately rebel against the human cost of the project but without the Hells and Laudna in particular she too would be very much vulnerable to cults.
In both cases, they do actually have strong beliefs and a core desire to help rather than hurt people. But they don’t trust themselves to do it correctly and that gets them in trouble. In both cases, too, the strength of their love is also seeded in this weakness. Gabrielle refused to believe that Hope could be intrinsically evil. Imogen wants so badly for her mother’s actions to come from a place of care. But that lack of self-trust means that when they lean too far into their ability to understand the motives of and have compassion for others, it becomes paralytic instead of balancing.
I hope that Imogen’s arc takes her on a different path than Gabrielle’s; as I said, I think Gabrielle’s ultimate decision to model herself on Xena more fully is a very tragic one. I don’t think she ever quite manages to regain full trust in herself. However, since Imogen’s arc started from a place of self doubt and since that lack of self-worth is the core problem in the Hells generally, I am hopeful that she will develop in the opposite way and ultimately gain a firmer trust in her own ability to do the right thing as best she can.

yknow. while theres obvs a whole host of deliberate references saltburn pulls from mythology and classic literature, theres a lot of more contemporary, probably unintentional parallels i noticed could be drawn as well! (mainly my own faves bc my favorite hobby is projection)
so, in no particular order:
saw 2004. this ones a bit of a stretch but i mean, cmon. homoerotic bathtub. also the twist villain (ish), themes of vouyerism, playing games with peoples motives, pitting people against each other and exploiting power dynamics+dirty laundry. and the class disparity between the two love interests (yes saw is also a gay romantic tragicomedy to me. sorry)
dark shadows (the movie not the show) oliver is very vampire coded (i need to make a whole separate post abt that tbh) so hes barnabus collins. pamela is the redheaded dr. cotton whose overstayed her welcome. "the eggs are made for you. everything else is on the side"🤝"we dont have horses. we have a chevy". tragic gothic murder-(almost)-suicide romance. ig this makes felix josette, venetia carolyn, and farleigh the spooky little kid who can talk to ghosts,,,,,? eh yea ok its not a 1:1 ratio
hereditary. elspeths scream finding felixs body in the morning. the tendency to just fully suppress trauma until its impossible to ignore at which point it spills out in the most ghastly ridiculous ways. the undercurrent of intergenerational mother-son trauma. the way they both seem to juggle two focuses at once, one focus being interpersonal dynamics, the other being class commentary (or supernatural horror in hereditary, though id argue saltburn succeeds at this where hereditary falls flat) also the twist that its not in fact the family thats scary and culty and weird and ultimately the biggest threat, but an outsider (hated that twist in hereditary, loved it in saltburn)
sucker punch. again the theme of vouyerism! also consent, sexuality, and hypersexuality, getting by on charisma in a losing battle when surrounded by those with systemic power over you (farliegh ily mwuah), the fine line between desire and glorification and dehumanization, and how it forces the audience to do the uncomfortable work of reconciling our desire to take the eroticism presented to us at face value and sexualize the characters and their relationships, with the power imbalances and therefore inherently dubious consent between them (and us, the audience)
a girl walks home alone at night. this ones mainly just the title, but again i just really like the subversion of expectation that oliver is gonna be the one helplessly sucked into this whirlwind of danger, when in reality, hes the threat. and both the cattons and we ourselves as the audience wholly underestimate him due to the implicit biases it forces us to reconsider
the hunger games. more vouyerism, the way it catches the audience in wanting to focus on the romance because its comfortable and what we're used to, rather than actually look beyond the surface and engage with the power imbalances, particularly the classim and racism commentary. also that scene where oliver looks out the cab window and sees saltburn for the first time reminded me a lot of peeta and katniss looking out the train seeing the capitol
euphoria. ik yall noticed the jules and felix parallel w the angel wings, and duh jacob elordi is in both. but can i also pose that they both have themes of coodependancy and love as addiction and favorite persons and not loving someone as a person but simply loving to be loved. and also body glitter and cocaine

The Aid Masterlist
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Cover pics sourced from Pinterest
(18+, MINORS DNI!)
Bad summary (I suck at these): Set in the near future, an ability wielding telepathic-empathic 18-year-old sells himself into high-class slavery to support his family and to escape the wrath of an impeding Regime that has overthrown the US government, as well as avoid the growing numbers of the ravenous blood-thirsty hoards of afflicted. Stripped of his name, The Aid serves under a Southern Californian socialite, Madame Eleanor, the prestigious Sullivan family matriarch, for five years before being given to her Sadistic Son, Wyatt, after her untimely death. He now must fight for survival in a war-torn world and rediscover who he is, and hopefully, he’ll make a friend or two along the way.
What you can expect: A long, slow-burn type story with undertones of family war-time drama, multiple POVs (in the works), multiple parts, and Whumping of all kinds. Too many themes and lots of insane shit. This story is the first of many in my chaotically crafted BBU-inspired original AU (although it is very different). It’s a bit of a mess rn, I’m figuring it out as I go along and it’ll all tie in and make sense eventually. And oops this may turn into a “multiple book” situation. Oh I’m sorry, you wanted a simple whump story? Too bad, take a never-ending series instead!
General vibes: post-apocalypse desert horror meets torture den meets psychedelic 60s and mid-centruy modern aesthetics (plus a lot more other shit that will come in wayyyyy down the road).
General content warnings:
This is a heavier story with little to no comfort and constant levels of hurt (physical and emotional), including NSFW themes, heed any TWs & CWs listed at the beginning of each part! This is not a happy story (at least right now and in the near future, but he will have a happy-ish ending I promise), if you want something nice n’ fluffy, this isn't it!
*Not all of these themes are explored yet, but they will be. I’m trying not to give away spoilers while also being upfront by what to expect here.
20+ year age gap between Whumpee & Whumper
Former (elderly) lady Whumper (dies at 73)
Institutionalized slavery in a post-war/ post-apocalyptic AU
Culty & conspiratorial religious extremism (not the main focus of this story, but it’s there in the background and connected to above bullet point)
Cannibalism (the “afflicted” are basically stand-ins for zombies)
Non-con & dub-con (varying degrees of each, anything explicit will be marked as such!)
Red room whumping (working up to it, this feels like a spoiler)
Addiction & substance abuse + general use & mentions (prescription & illicit drugs, alcohol, gambling, porn), + noncon drugging
Caretaker turned Whumpee (“Caretaker” as in literal caregiver)
Sadistic/creepy/intimate/verbally and mentally abusive Whumper
Death threats, attempted murder, and murder
Discussions of mental health including suicidal ideation
Multiple Whumpers (& eventually multiple Whumpees— wow this also feels like a spoiler)
Long-term captivity, and conditioning— I’m talking 5 + 4ish more years (but this does not mean the MC is completely helpless and always compliant and doesn’t snap back!)
Medical & lab whump (this is probably more medical malpractice and just bad healthcare, but there’s some experimental drugging!)
Starvation & subsequent issues with food
Manipulation/ emotional whump
Defiant & angsty Whumpee(s)
Paranormal encounters
Family trauma & drama
Idk what to call this, but MC has some special abilities but it’s not necessarily magic. I wouldn’t consider this magic or fantasy whump by any means and the story does not revolve exclusively around this, although it plays a personal part for MC.

So I just went to see Madame Web and ...
Seriously, THAT was the toxic hellfire that's destined to sink Sony Films' ongoing attempts to ignite their live action Spider-Verse?
I mean, honstly, that wasn't really ANYTHING LIKE that bad, people. It is BY NO MEANS a great movie, it's definitely flawed and clunky, but it's also NOTHING LIKE the very worst of the Marvel movies I've seen in my time, especially in recent years ... it's DEFINITELY nowhere near as mbad as the GENUINELY abyssmal stinking stillborn mutation likes of Morbius or Elektra, nor is it EVEN quite as bad as those much more simplistic throwback Marvel movies from the pre-MCU days that have nonetheless still become beloved culty guilty pleasures for their kitchy campness, like Ghost Rider, Daredevil or the Thomas Jane Punisher movie.
In fact, once it gets going, it's ACTUALLY a pretty enjoyable movie, with quite a bit of charm. One of my strongest benchmarks for whether a movie is WORTHWHILE or not is if, by the time it counts, generally in the third act when the stakes are suitably raised, I have become sufficiently invested in the main characters for me to actually CARE about them making it through whatever terrors the big action climax has in store for them, and I DEFINITELY got that here. Dakota Johnson may not be the greatest actress out there, ESPECIALLY after the torturous (ahem) depths of the 30 Shades saga, but she's got a certain affable charm that won me over here, and Cassie Webb definitely has a scrappy, stubborn attitude that I really warmed to over the course of the story, while the trio of teenage girls she becomes reluctantly responsible for are likeable enough too that we can excuse their making some pretty dumb decisions at times - besides, they're TEENAGE GIRLS, why are we surprised that they don't always THINK before they act? And besides, getting to see my girl Araña brought to the screen PRETTY MUCH as I remember her from the comics was definitely worth my time.
Then there's Ezekiel Sims ... as screen villains go, the great Tahar Rahim has actually got something pretty strong to work with here, investing the character with impressive menace and a certain seductive charm despite having no real redeeming personality features at all. We could have done with at least A BIT more of an insight into his motivations, but he's a strong enough antagonist here all the same that he works gangbusters here, proving to be a genuinely palpable threat throughout the action.
And how could i POSSIBLY have been left cold by the way they handled the connective tissue to the larger Spider-verse so well? Adam Scott as a young Ben Parker? Genuinely CHEF'S KISS, I swear. Suddenly the way Peter's SO cut up about losing his uncle/father figure makes perfect sense ...
In the end the film definitely won me over by giving me plenty of what I LIKE in my storytelling. I love a strong found family dynamic, and capable, smart female lead protagonists who learn to stand on their own or together against potentially ovewhelming threats are TOTALLY my jam, man. So I can easily forgive all the hokum, shoddy superhero origin story character development gimmickry and varying levels of visual effects quality, as well as a criminally LOW LEVEL climactic showdown, because the film was MUCH stronger than I expected it to be where it counted FOR ME.
So was it a great movie worthy6 of comparison with the best that Marvel has to offer? NO. Not even close. But was it the massive steaming SHITSHOW most of the critics are making it out to be? DEFINITELY NOT.
Go check it out, give it a chance. Reckon you might be pleasantly surprised ...

Hello! Sorry for the message. Sometimes I worry about fictionkin stuff specifically being too close to cultish stuff (eg: the final fantasy house stuff) and someone posting about that last night in the tag made me more jumpy about it. Do you have any thoughts on memories, abusive kin spaces that take advantahe of this and people who say anything past life is inherently culty or bad? (or in the case of fictionkin also ridiculous/implausible?)
The problem is not the fictionkinity or the past life stuff. The problem is how people behave around it. (And, if I'm thinking of the same person, I went to trawl their blog a bit when I first saw their posts about this because I had the same :\ reaction you did and they also seem to agree with this, they're just a little more aggressive/wary about it.)
The problem is that people take advantage of desperation, and someone who deeply misses their species and their home and the people they used to know can often become desperate for any form of connection to those things - and that's something that can be taken advantage of. (This is the same reason p-shifter cults have been a huge problem historically.) There have been approximately eight million community guides about how to avoid this problem, summing up to
Don't let yourself feel obligated to a relationship (any kind of relationship) with someone because of a relationship you had in a past life. Just because you were friends or lovers or whatever then doesn't mean you're compatible now.
If someone's claiming to have known you in a past life, withhold certain details that you already are at least relatively certain of and ask them about those things to see if it actually matches up or if they're just "yeah I totally remember that"ing anything you say. If you're really not sure, say something you know is false (but which isn't an obvious lie) and see if they agree with it or if they go "hmm, that doesn't feel right to me". Do not be ashamed of testing people this way. Do not let them MAKE you feel ashamed of testing them this way.
Even if they pass these tests, uphold internet safety and stranger danger safety regardless. This is, functionally, a stranger on the internet - even if you truly did share a past life together, you've both got an entire lifetime between then and now wherein you have changed as people. Don't let them talk you into giving personal information.
When it comes to past life memories, be wary of the power of suggestion, just in general. It is insanely easy for your brain to just make shit up and modify memories away from what actually happened, even this-life memories. Just in general this is a good rule of thumb, but when it comes to dangerous people and situations, if someone starts trying to guide your "memories" and encourage you to "remember" specific things, you put your foot down once about it, and if they don't stop, you book it.
As ever, trust your gut. If someone feels off, don't be afraid to ignore or block them. They can find someone else to talk to.
Just... general internet safety guidelines, really. Do not let yourself forget that the person you're talking to is A Stranger On The Internet and should be treated with according wariness at all times.

I just went through your tag John Lennon the hip hop fan and I had no idea I’d be so interested in this! it absolutely makes sense as far as headcanons go where do you think he’d fall in the famous feuds? I.e. Kanye vs Jay z, biggi vs pac (I know biggie repped his city but Tupac was so funny I mean this is so John coded https://youtu.be/30_lTWtGMaE?si=xDgkqFfgSOPb6efN ), Nicki vs literally every female rapper 😭 (unless he’d one of those dudes who doesn’t take female rap seriously so just does not care)
wait are kanye and jay fueding? i thought jay just dropped him because of....y'know...all that. nevertheless, i stand by my original theory that kanye would start shit with john after john said he thought the culty sunday service stuff was kind of lame. although, he was so susceptible to cults, maybe he'd get into it a bit and they'd fight later.
idk where he'd land on biggie and tupac. i actually don't think he'd necessarily care about the regional aspect of it, so maybe he would be on tupac's side initially, and then change his mind when that made him uncool with the bad boy crew lmao. and you're so right about that interview. it brings up a more interesting question though which is what would john think of suge knight??
i think he would have the azealia banks perspective on nicki (she's too good to be embarrassing herself like this, but bitch when moment 4 life comes on). he'd roll with cardi b's whole thing though, i feel like he'd take her side on that one.

You know, looking back at the empathy discussion of years back with the benefit of 1. Good old hindsight and 2. A better awareness I personally was interested because as a child I despaired of my mom ever fully grokking that I wasn’t motivated by the same things as her, I’m struck by something:
People argued a lot about the idea that people can perform altruistic actions without fuzzy feelings. “I’ve studied the best way to optimize the money I donate and decided malaria nets do the most good.” Which is… true? People can sometimes approach morality like a math problem and come up with the right answers. There can be multiple good reasons to perform a virtuous action.
But the thing I never really saw was any kind of curiosity about high empathy people and HOW we look at moral dilemmas. It always seemed to boil down to just “emotions are fickle, the consequentialist calculus is not.” Or, always and ever, research that showed empathy means you only care about your in group, without rigorous examination of what in groups are or how we form them or if they’re fixed or they can change/expand if we work at it.
Which is odd. If other people are doing things wrong, shouldn’t it be important to study why? To develop ways to talk to them and help them to shift their paradigm a bit?
If they’re not doing things wrong, shouldn’t that be fascinating? There are multiple ways to arrive at the same answer! How are they? That’s neat!
And of course if they’re more frequently right, “let’s study that” goes without saying, as it would help you to optimize.
I dunno. I’ve just been thinking about this and just really intrigued by how incurious people seemed. Wondering if that might itself have been a product of low empathy, even. Why should I need to know about your flawed reasoning system versus wow, I want to better understand how you see this, it’s fascinating.
I dunno, the further I get from EA the more it seems like it was… kind of culty is part of it, yeah, but honestly like people were using it as a way to aggressively reassure themselves “I’m autistic and that’s okay and maybe even makes me superior” rather than “I’m studying moral choice and motivation and have decided after much study that this is a better motivational system for all humans, including the neurotypical ones.”
And having something that aggressively helps you feel your neurodivergence is okay is good! I’ve got several! But it’s important to not confuse “this is an emotional security blanket that soothes my Big Feelings when others put me down as crazy or creepy” with “this is a rigorous rational analysis of human motivation that leads me to think there’s one best system for all.”
