I forgot to save the person who sent this house to us, so I credit her, but she said that she passes it every day, hates it b/c it has fake palm trees in Potomac, Maryland (!) and now that she’s seen the interior, hates it even more!
Tumblr media
I must say this is an unoriginal name, “House of Love.” Puh-leeze. If I bought it, those tiles would be chipped right off the wall. It’s for sale for $4.955M.
Tumblr media
It’s soooo white, I’m snow blind. You can’t even see the carving on the fireplace b/c there’s no contrast. How do you get up there to dust that mantel?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
How do you keep this clean? You would need a cherry picker to dust the ornate details, fans and lighting. People can’t possibly “live” here.
Tumblr media
As soon as you enter, there’s a dining room. No sitting room in sight.
Tumblr media
Large room for just a piano.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I’m getting disoriented. The office appears to be off the main hall . Look at the size of that fireplace.
Tumblr media
Can’t tell what proximity the kitchen is from the dining room, but at look those columns and tile work. Wow, 4 ovens in the wall and 2 in the stove.
Tumblr media
Large bar and wine storage.
Tumblr media
Now, this is a sitting area off the kitchen.
Tumblr media
And, there’s another dining area. The whole area is open to another open area.
Tumblr media
And, the open area has steps down to an indoor pool. Kind of reminds me of the center court of a mall.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I’ve never seen such a confusing layout- is that a mural or a movie screen above that wall? Now I’m not even sure if that’s a pool. It looks like a water feature.
Tumblr media
Here’s a glitzy bathroom.
Tumblr media
The main bd. appears to open to the center court.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then, thru these glass doors thru a marble hall is the en suite bath.
Tumblr media
The closet is so big, it looks like a store.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Down the hall is another of the 5 bds. and a bath- there are 7.5 of them.
Tumblr media
Up here is a sitting room
Tumblr media
Look at all the fans- it must be hard to cool this big place, let alone heat it in winter.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Clouds on the ceiling and an elevator.
Tumblr media
Funny that the patio is so plain.
Tumblr media
And, here’s a putting green.
Tumblr media
Here’s the layout and it still looks confusing. I’ve never seen such a complex house.

Get to Know the Blogger
Tagged by @crackinglamb and @serial-chillr – thank you for thinking of me! Your answers are much cooler than mine will be. Stealing Serial’s strategy of telling the story with pictures.
Share your wallpaper: I once downloaded one of those “make your whole phone experience feel aesthetic” apps, and it was quite underwhelming, but I’ve kept the background.
Tumblr media
Last song you listened to: I’m on a Bad Omens kick right now, and at any given moment I’d choose a different song from the new album but I think most recent is Like a Villain.
Currently reading: This range is weird AF, I admit. I’m also listening to ACOFAS and reading CC2 on kindle. Basically my adhd strategy is to have active reads all over the house so if I feel like reading, something is at hand. I had to run around to gather these, ha!
Tumblr media
Last movie: John Wick, which...I dunno man, I’m tired. The first one was so good and now there’s just so much action and so little plot that the action feels tedious. Beautifully shot, though!
Last show: Sanditon season 3. LOVE a period drama, even a silly one.
Craving: Like Serial, I am also really craving spring and warm weather and gardening and hiking and and and. This winter has been SO long.
What are you wearing right now: Way more dressed up than usual LOL. Black cashmere sweater dress, leopard leggings, lined black knee-highs, leather jacket. Usually I’m in joggers and a sweater though. I’m trying to inject some mojo into my life with fashun.
How tall are you: somewhere between 5′9″ and 5′10″ (~177cm)
Piercings: Just ears, and fun fact, they are slightly uneven because I got them done at a mall kiosk when I was 9.
Tattoos: none yet, I have too many ideas and commitment issues.
Glasses? Contacts? Neither, I have annoyingly perfect vision
Last drink: matcha latte, and I am my own barista ;)
Last thing you ate: I am being extremely terrible about food right now but at least I’ve had a piece of toast with almond butter heh...I guess I’ll go downstairs and make lunch
Favorite color: no. I can’t do it.
Current obsession: I feel like I am too absorbed in my MFA to have an obsession outside of it, so I guess historical trends in architecture and design!?!? I’m digging the module we’re doing on Art Deco a lot.
Any pets: Dog and Cat – Grover and Weasel, respectively
Tumblr media
Favorite fictional character: Sybel from The Forgotten Beasts of Eld, by McKillip (as you can see I love McKillip with my whole heart)
The last place you traveled: Just got back from Maryland! I was in Baltimore and DC.
Tagging @ultadverb @thesistersarcheron @soopsiedaisies @skjalla I could keep going but if you wanna do it, consider yourself tagged by me. I love reading y’all’s answers!

I love how every corner of the city carries with it the memory of a moment that feels like a lifetime in and of itself. NE on First between The Postal Museum and Union Station is an old haunt that always creeps up unexpectedly. Euclid occupies a very specific part of my mind. Columbia Rd. for Heather. Glover Park; something like home. left my heart on wisconsin. the whole of Rhode Island Ave.... from Logan Circle all the way up into the state of Maryland is a like a timeline marking the million versions of me I had been back then.
Baby-me grew up on visits to the mall and Georgetown... with the occasional late night stop at McCormick's in downtown to pick up my dad's child support check for me.... Ventures that penetrated DC only an arms length from home. A thether I'd never cut even after having lost my innocence just a couple years later and a couple blocks away. umbilically tied to the idea that I couldn't survive in the city alone, even though I did, night after night (nevermind that I'd been surviving since age 4).
These memories sting just as much as they tingle. I hope I can go back. grieve what I was and what I never became and confront the potential that still persists.
I miss everyone and everything and no one and nothing.

Meet our VIP: Enfys Book!
It's time for another round of Meet Our VIPs, where we introduce the amazing people who make up WordPress VIP!
Meet Enfys Book (they/them), Onboarding Technical Account Manager from Maryland, USA! They've been with Automattic and WordPress VIP since May 2019 (over 4 years!) Q: What is your role at WPVIP? I help our customers onboard to the platform and ensure their launches go smoothly. Q: What's your favorite thing about working for Automattic? Automattic is an amazing place to work because they truly value their employees. Our benefits are fantastic, and our approach to almost everything seems to be "trust people," "help each other," and "we're all on the same team." The people I work with are all committed to giving our customers a great experience and making our solution the best it can be. (Shameless plug: come work with us!)
Q: What's your favorite non-WPVIP brand at Automattic? I mean...Tumblr, obvs. Is this a trick question? Q: At Automattic, we have a LOT of "fun" Slack channels. What's your favorite? I run the VIP Music League, which is a themed playlist-building club with some light competition involved. Our Slack channel for the league is great for sharing new music and congratulating the winners of each round, and I love sharing music with folks I may not work with every day. It's a great way to get to know your colleagues. (You can start your own music league at musicleague.com) Q: What's your favorite word and why? "Oubliette" has such great mouthfeel, and it gets bonus points because I learned it from the movie "Labyrinth," which is one of my all-time favorite films.
Q: What's your favorite fandom? LoadingReadyRun. They're Canadian comedy streamers with an amazing online community. My favorite LRR things are these super-short sketches called Crapshots (CW for gun sound and imagery as part of the branding at the beginning and end of each sketch.) They've made hundreds of them, and once they had 512 of them a fan created a single-elimination tournament to find the best Crapshot (@thecrapshotbracket) I was extremely devoted to voting in every single round. They've also raised millions of dollars for Child's Play Charity through their annual multi-day streaming telethon called Desert Bus for Hope.
Q: What's your biggest claim to fame? I'm briefly visible in Britney Spears' "Behind the Music" episode, because I was helping with her autograph signing at the Mall of America in 1998.
Q: Who would win in a fight: giant pizza, aliens, or crabs? Why? Crabs, 100%. Carcinization comes for us all. Q: What are your hobbies outside of work? I'm in a weird band called the Misbehavin' Maidens (@misbehavinmaidens) that sings funny, filthy, feminist, fandom folk music. I'm also a published author in the "metaphysical nonfiction" space. I'm currently working on three more books to be published in the next couple of years.

Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I am finally curled up in my bed in the back of my car and I feel really happy. Only a little bit stressed because we got a carabineer stuck in Jesse's hatchback but we will solve that tomorrow. Today was a good day and I won't let something small like that ruin it.
I slept really well last night. I only remember waking up a little before James left for work. I remember lots of face kisses and being told how much I was loved. And then I slept for two more hours.
When I woke up I was in a little bit of a fog. My ears were all closed up. I wasn't my best. I would slowly start to feel better but it was slow going for sure. I texted Jess and took forever to get up but I would and things would start to feel better.
I got washed and dressed. I made a nice breakfast. And I made my plan. I decided I would drive to the museum on my way to the highway to say goodbye to James. And then take the longer way to avoid some tolls. Arriving in North East Maryland at 1. This would not work out.
Because of my brain fog I would forget a bunch of stuff. Not a ton but enough. I said goodbye to Sweetp and went down to the car to take the cooler and move some stuff around. I had to head back up to get my drink. And then was off. Thinking I had everything.
Making it half way to the museum when I realized I forgot the car outlet. We don't have an electric hookup at the camp site so to charge our stuff and to use the air pump for our mattresses we would really need that.
So I would have to go back. I went to hug and kiss James first. Said goodbye to them. Told them how upset I was about forgetting stuff. And then back home.
I got my outlet and left. And would make it back to the highway when I realized I forgot the other lantern and also the peanut butter j was suppose to bring. So I felt really dumb and was not happy. But it wasn't worth it to turn back.
I would end up taking the toll route because I didn't want to arrive a half hour after Jess. But the drive ended up being really nice. And I had a good time. And though there was a little traffic I would arrive almost exactly the same time Jess did.
I got a little stressed with parking because this tiny town had so much traffic for some reason. But it was a beautiful day and I was excited to be there. I walked the couple blocks back to where Jess was parked. And we would walk all over this little main street. We went to the coffee shop for donuts and an ice tea. We walked all over the antique mall and saw some fun stuff. The woman at the front desk was a character and collects doll eyes and taxidermy. Jess would buy a few things. And we told each other lots of work stuff and it was really just good to be with my best friend.
We would walk around a little longer before deciding to go to lunch. And we chose a little diner which was perfect.
We shared a salad and talked about I told her some of my anxiety lately. I am lucky I can be so honest with her. Because I have been very hard on myself lately and I don't want to project that on her when she's not actually upset with me. I am just worried about upsetting her and punishing myself which is dumb and not helpful to anyone.
Our waitress was so nice too. I told her we are camping and asked if it was possible to have some butter packets to take with us and she not only gave us that she also gave up napkins and utensils and she was just so sweet. Love when people are kind.
We knew we were coming into a spotty service area heading to the camp site. So we made sure we had to same address and Jess would wait for me there.
I walked back to my car and saw a duck nested up on the side of the bank?? It was super surprising and lovely to see. And then back to the car. I made sure I sent out messages to James and my parents. Especially since tomorrow is Easter. And then it was time to get to camp!!
Jess beat me by a couple minutes. And very soon we were heading into elk neck to find our camping loop. Which was very deep in. I think when I stayed here before we were in the second loop. But we have a good spot and I was excited.
We have neighbors. But no one is to close. Jess pulled in first and I backed up so we could set up the canopy between us which has been perfect. She got a real tent for her trunk and I have my mosquito net. We moved the picnic table to be under the canopy and got to work setting everything up. And it took a while but it was fun. Settling in. Sorting out everything we brought. I got the mattresses inflated and I love the new one. I wasn't sure it was going to work because I sleep on my side and it's very thin but it's actually excellent and I'm very happy.
After everything was set up we would also set up the hammocks. Which was the first time Jess has used hers and it was incredibly staticy for some reason. So we kept getting shocked and screaming and laughing.
We would take a walk around the loop to see everyone's set ups. I always love seeing what people are doing. There are a few youth groups who are hammock only camping and I always think that's cool but none of them have under covering and their butts are going to get so cold tonight. I hope they are all having fun. I enjoyed hearing them laughing earlier and some of the teen girls said me and Jess's set up is very cool so that made me proud of us.
When we got back from our walk we had hammock time. We read for an hour and it was nice being cozy in our hammocks. I liked watching the birds too. I just love being out here.
We would take another walk around the next loop. And when we got back I collected sticks and fixed my necklaces I accidently ripped off my neck. And we would try to start a fire but we couldn't get it to stay lit. Maybe we will try tomorrow and see if we have better luck.
Jess tried so hard though and that was really sweet. We used like half of the matches I brought though and after many failed attempts we gave up. Instead moving on to the new single burner stove. Which works so easy and I love so much?? It's way easier then the Colman we used to have and is self lighting. It's exactly what I wanted so I'm thrilled it worked out.
And since we figured that out so easily we made quesadillas for dinner and had apples to go with it. I was very proud of us.
After we ate we went to wash up and change into PJs. And would sit in the front seat of Jess's car to watch a movie while I knit.
And it was a lot of fun. Jess has a very complicated medication and nighttime routine. Like me but I don't do all of it when I'm not home. She has to do the medications so I waited for her in the bathroom. And I joked about her being so high maintenance. And then we tried to eat popcorn during the movie but it was stupid spicy so we gave up on that. Instead just critiquing the movie the entire time comparing it to the books. Which she just reread this year and I haven't read since I was like 15. So it was a fun couple hours.
We went to finish getting ready for bed. Brushing teeth. And turning on the string lights we had strung up in our cars. Jess wanted to see about closing her hatch and this is where we discovered that we couldn't get the carabineer out. Basically to trick the car into thinking the trunk is closed I push a carabineer into the latch. We learned that on our road trip and it works great to save the battery from dying. But her car is newer then mine and it won't give it up. And we also done had enough service to try to Google an answer. She was able to look s little if we stand in the right spot but nothing she found is working. And we very very much don't want to break her car.
So we aren't exactly sure what to do but also it's nighttime and this has to be a tomorrow problem. And I'm sure we will solve it. Even if we have to go talk to the camp host and see if they have access to bolt cutters. Something has to go wrong and if this is is it's honestly not the worst thing. I just feel bad because I'm normally the problem solver and I don't have a solution yet.
But we are both tired and there isn't anything else we can try. We will have to try again tomorrow. So she is asleep in her car. Hopefully warm and comfortable. And I'm am cozy in mine. I have one extra blanket I'm going to try to get because it's going to drop down to the 30s and I don't want to wake up cold.
I know this will be posted late. Maybe on Sunday if we get somewhere there is service. But if not you'll see this on Monday. I hope you all have a great weekend and are keeping safe. Until next time!!

Welcome to Aurora Bay, [ALARA DEMIR]! I couldn’t help but notice you look an awful lot like [RABIA SOYTÜRK]. You must be the [TWENTY-FIVE] year old [SEAMSTRESS]. Word is you’re [CREATIVE] but can also be a bit [NAIVE] and your favorite song is [OCEAN EYES - BILLIE EILISH]. I also heard you’ll be staying in [AURORA BAY DRIVE]. I’m sure you’ll love it!
Tumblr media
With her parents emigrating from Turkey before Alara was born, she grew up in Washington. While she didn't love the hustle and bustle of a huge city, she enjoyed the opportunities it provided. It was in school that Alara was first exposed to sewing in her home economics class. It wasn't something that she'd ever really taken notice of before, but she found herself being surprisingly good at it, and enjoying the creative aspect. Alara had always had an affinity for cute clothes, though usually found items through thrifting as her parents never had the money for expensive mall trips. However, sewing was her way to create her own clothes, something she did all through high school.
It was during this time that Alara struggled with her phys ed classes, finding herself unable to keep up with others her age. After getting terrible marks in the class, her parents heard her concerns and decided to take her to a doctor for a check up. Some investigating later, Alara was diagnosed with cardiomyopathy. Her heart muscles weren't quite strong as they should have been. This scared the whole family, however the doctor assured them that medications would help for now, but it was certainly something to be aware of and monitor in the future.
Alara thought she was making friends when people approached her to make them custom items, Alara creating them for a fraction of the price they'd pay in stores. But really, these people were just using her, not paying her for her time and skills, just for the materials she used. Too trusting of people, wanting to believe they really liked her for her, Alara kept doing these favors for the other kids in her class. None of these so-called 'friendships' lasted though, and Alara tries not to look back with disappointment.
After graduating, Alara applied to the Maryland Institute College of Art, doing a course in textile design, specializing in costume design. She found designing and creating costumes to be her passion, a legitimate reason to use glittered fabrics, add as many ruffles as she wanted, and shower an outfit in sparkles.
At twenty-two, after a few different placements, Alara joined the circus. A statement she still finds hilarious. But Cirque du Soleil was an absolute dream job and she couldn't believe that they'd accept her. She was mostly just mending costumes under the supervision of others, but occasionally she was allowed to sit in on costume design sessions and always loved that.
It was during this time that Alara met Amy, who was also apart of the crew, working in set maintenance. The two got along really well, and Alara found herself in a romance that made her heart flutter. It was so exciting, to be doing her dream job, to have a girlfriend, and thinking that everything was just perfect.
But that fell apart when Alara discovered that Amy was cheating on her. Heartbroken, Alara ended things, but the emotions triggered a cardiac event and Alara ended up in hospital. After that, she decided she needed a break from everything, though she didn't want to go home. Alara had always known she had a cousin in Aurora Bay, reaching out to him and asking if she could stay with him for a little while.

┈✁✃✁✃✁✃✁✃✁✁✃✁✃✁✃✁✃┈
“Rise and shine, kiddos!” Rain’s scratchy sarcastic morning voice woke the two up, keeping her eyes on the road as she drove through the busy highway at rush hour.
“Urgh. Are we there yet? Or at least close by?” Echo asked groggily, rubbing her eyes.
“Gods, not even close.” Rain shook her head “We are driving from Rhodes Island to Maryland. It’s an approximate seven and a half hours drive.”
“I am going to get motion sickness,” Echo said matter-of-factly, frowning
Rain reached from inside her bag and tossed a pack of Dramamine to Echo, “Should help with motion sickness.”
Echo took it and sighed, “I’ll just sleep through the hours.” She thanked Rain before looking out the window.
“Excellent way to waste the time,” Moon rolled her eyes “Instead, you can study for the upcoming test for the math class.”
“Yeah. And that’s much more fun than sleeping.” Despite her words, Echo reached inside her bag and extracted her emerald green bullet journal and flipped through her notes.
To fill the empty silence, Rain took out her phone and connected it to Bluetooth. Soft jazz music filled the vehicle, setting a calm ambiance.
Blue Champagne - purple shadows and Blue Champagne
With the echoes that still remain I keep a blue rendezvous
“That stuff has to be from the 1940s.” Moon groaned, looking up from her ochre yellow grid journal
“It is,” Rain hummed along “Blue Champagne by Jimmy Dorsey from 1941.”
“I mean, I understand why you like forties music-” Moon’s hand flew to her month, almost spilling Rain’s secret
“Why?” Echo asked curiously, narrowing her eyes at the two of them. “Is there something you’re not telling me?”
“No, no. Not at all.” Moon tried for a smile, desperately trying to cover her slip-up
Bubbles rise like a fountain before my eyes
And they suddenly crystallize to form a vision of you
“Rain, pull over somewhere. Now.” Moon said suddenly, leaning forward in her seat.
Noticing Moon’s serious tone, Rain nodded and turned for the exit on the highway. After what seemed like one or two minutes, they arrived at the nearest shopping mall. Rain parked the car and turned around, looking at Moon concerningly.
“Are you okay? What’s wrong?” Echo turned to Moon, “Are you hurt?”
“No, but Rain is basically half asleep.” Moon said, scowling at Rain.
No one except Moon had noticed, but visible bags were under Rain’s eyes, and she was yawning every twenty seconds. Every ounce of her was desperately trying to stay awake but her brain kept convincing her that, no, she was not exhausted.
“Take a nap. Moon and I will go for a two or three hour shopping trip while you sleep.” Echo said kindly while Moon nodded
“I love you guys. Now get out of my car.” Was all Rain could manage before turning away, a small smile on her face
All the plans we started, all the songs we sang
Each little dream we knew seem to overtake me like a boomerang
The two chucked, climbing out. For a long time, despite how tired Rain was, she just couldn’t close her eyes. There was a feeling of unsettledness and being alone. In fact, after meeting Moon and Echo, she could not remember a moment when she was left purposely alone by any of those two.
This is a first The snarky voice in her said
Shut it She told it firmly I’m trying to get some sleep, you inconsiderate idiot
The snarky voice in her head disappeared, only to be replaced by small whispers always lurking in the back of her mind.
What makes you guys think rules don't apply to you? She scolded the whispers sternly
Everything seemed to go quiet once more, but thoughts kept running in tracks. She paid them no mind, though. After what seemed like an eternity, her eyes fluttered shut, her mind finally at peace.
Blue is the sparkle, gone is the tang;
Each old refrain keeps returning as I remain
“Should I get this?” Moon held up a copper compass for Echo to see, “It’s her birthday in two weeks anyways, and we might not get the opportunity to go shopping again.”
Echo inspected the compass and nodded appreciatively, “Should get two more so the three of us can match.”
“Goodness gracious me! We should visit other stores before our time is up.” Moon checked her watch, looking at Echo.
The two paid for their items and left the shop. Yet just when they were about to enter another one, a shout made the both of them jump. Two women were wrestling on the floor, yelling furiously at each other. People were beginning to crowd around them, half of the crowd telling them to cut it out, the other half cheering them on.
“Break it up, ladies! Break it up!” The security ran over, pulling the two apart.
“Geez. Let’s leave before one of them decides to tackle us.” Echo shuddered, grabbing Moon’s hand and walking away.
With my memories and Blue Champagne
To toast the dream that was you
“Rain! Sleepyhead! Are you awake?” Echo’s obnoxious voice woke Rain suddenly from her peaceful slumber.
Not being fully awake yet, Rain instinctively reached up and punched her square in the face. Moon laughed at Echo, who was rubbing her nose.
“Sorry, sorry.” Rain apologized profusely, guilt showing on her face. “Normally when people wake me up like this, it normally means that there’s a battle to be fought.”
A sense of understanding washed over Moon, soon followed by a wave of melancholy. She nodded silently in understanding, making Echo sigh.
“If there’s something going on, will you just tell me already?” She asked, exasperated.
“One day, Sora. One day.” Rain forced a smile, turning away.

...."First off let me say this: If I am ever trapped behind enemy lines or wander accidentally back into Gilead, there is only one person I want with me to fight off the hordes of evildoers, just one soldier in the foxhole who has my back and if necessary will throw themself on the hand grenade so that I may live — and that person is Nancy ”Thor” Pelosi! I’m talking about the 82-year-old “Don’t-Fuck-with-Biden?-NO-DON’T-FUCK-WITH-ME” Nancy Pelosi!!
That newly released raw footage from January 6th we saw yesterday — shot by the brilliant documentary filmmaker, the Kathryn Bigelow of nonfiction action films, Alexandra Pelosi — showed us the first ever female Speaker/Slayer in full superhero mode. When she hears Trump on TV order the mob to raid the Capitol Building, Pelosi exclaims, “I hope he comes — I’m gonna punch him out! This is my moment. I’ve been waiting for this — for trespassing on the Capitol grounds…” (and then she launches into a very detailed description of what she’s going to do to Trump as if she HAS INDEED thought about this moment for a long time). “I’m gonna punch him out and I’m gonna go to jail and I’m gonna be HAPPY!”
I got so excited I thought someone offstage was going to toss her a bazooka and a red beret and she was going to break out in song!
But then, as if straight from a scene from “A Very Pelosi Family Thanksgiving Special”, grandson Paul Pelosi is looking out grandma’s window over our Nation’s Capitol and shouts, “Grandma! Grandma! The fascist mob is coming up the Mall!”
And sure enough, it was.
Grandma Nancy had invited her whole family to come to the Capitol that day to witness history. Not hang Mike Pence.  So she leapt into action.
First, she got the family and staff to a safe place. Next, she loaded a fresh clip into the Glock she keeps strapped to her ankle. Then, to confuse the idiots who would soon ransack her office, she placed a few nice things out on her desk for them to see: A copy of Betty Freidan’s “The Feminine Mystique”. An open laptop with the “Critical Race Theory” website left up on the screen. A half-written love note to Angela Davis. And Her personal “To-Do List:” 1. Take away everyone’s guns.  2. Burn all Confederate flags.  3. Ban the NFL.  4. Appoint only ppl under 30 to Cabinet.   5. Remove testicles (on a need-to-know basis).
Her staff tried to whisk her away. She asked them, “Have you called the National Guard?!”
“Yes!”, an aide replied. The “yes” did not sound believable, so she would ask this question three more times.
For the next 11 minutes, while walking to wherever they were taking her, she showed no fear. She just kept working the phones. She called the Acting Secretary of Defense to tell him to send in the troops. She called the Acting Secretary of the Army to send in other troops. She called the governors of Virginia and Maryland to send in their National Guard. Then she thought for a moment and said “Let’s call the head of Prince George’s County!”, thinking they may have some extra troops, too. Next, from her secure location, we see her and Chuck Schumer badgering the Attorney General (Acting) to tell him to call Trump. Eventually they were calling every (acting) Trump appointee and tearing them each a new hole. It was like a symphony they were conducting, albeit one for the devil. It was a wonder to watch.
And through it all, Pelosi kept repeating her mantra: “If we cannot get back in there tonight and finish our business, then they’ve won.”
“They can’t win!!”

What name do you go by most often? - Kaylie
Is that your real name or a nickname? - Real name
Has your birthday come yet this year? - Yes, it was back in March
Where is your mom right now? - Upstairs watching Under The Banner of Heaven
What were you doing at 4pm? - I was watching Leon Lush YouTube videos
Are you a good speller? - Yes
Who was the last person to give you a ‘high-five’? - I have no idea. It's been so long. I feel like it was probably someone at work.
Would you consider yourself a shy person? - Yes.
Can you play the guitar? - No, but I wish I could so badly.
Three things you ate today? - Apple pie, hot dog, and liquorice. Very healthy choices.
What did you do last Sunday? - I can't remember that much. I think I went out with my mom maybe to the mall??
How many orange shirts do you own? - I don't think any?? I think I have one that has orange in it but not a true orange shirt.
Are you currently taking any prescription medications? - Just cipralex
Do you like skim milk? - No. I used to drink Almond milk, but now I just kind of avoid milk. If I drink it, it's regular 2% (but I'm lactose-intolerant so I try to avoid it as much as I can lmao)
How did you bring in the New Year? - I don't remember. I think I just went to bed lol
Are you missing anyone right now? - Not overly. I was missing my dad yesterday, but it's not so bad today.
If you could relive one moment in the past week what would it be? - I was super inspired and motivated last night and would definitely love to relive that short lived moment.
If you could spend 30 minutes with someone who is gone, who would you pick? - My dad
Biggest mistake to date? - Letting my cat outside at night back in June a month ago because she got hit by a car so we had to put her down :( Literally will never forgive myself.
Where did you go to grade school at? - Mattie McCullough
Have you ever lived in Tennessee? - No
Idaho? - No
Nebraska? - No
Maryland? - No
Texas? - I'm not American.
Does anyone in your family smoke? - A couple people. Some of my cousins do and my aunt does. I think she quit for a time but I also think she took up the habit again.
How many of the people you live with are over 21? - All 3 of us.
Who do you wish you could talk to right this moment? - I guess my dad? I always wish I could talk to him one more time.
How many clocks are in the room you are in? - Zero, except for the one in my phone.
Do you use MSN messenger? - I used to in middle school.
What time will it be in 6 hours? - It'll be almost 5 am I think.
Have you kissed anyone in the last week? - No
Do you enjoy classic rock? - Depends on the song. Generally not my go-to.
Have you ever been told you looked like someone famous? - In passing, but not as a true comment or compliment. When I was in middle school, sometimes I got people that told me I looked like the lead singer from The Band Perry but that was only because I had blonde hair and my hair was slightly curly/wavy from a fading perm lol. (Truly I don't look anything like her)
Are you anemic? - I was in high school. I think I still am, but I'd have to get tested to see.
At Christmas, do you have a fake or a real tree? - Fake, because my mom always said that real trees are too messy and they get sap and needles everywhere lol. I also think fake trees are prettier because they have less gaps between the branches.
Do you usually go watch fireworks on the 4th of July? - Again, I'm not American. (I also don't usually go on Canada Day because I don't have anyone to go with and I kind of don't care)
Do you remember when the game Oregon Trail was really popular? - No
Does anyone have your heart? - A bunch of random fictional men
What did you do last Valentine’s Day? - I think I worked, but even if I didn't, I was probably at home not doing anything.
Can you count to 20 in any other language? - No. I could at one point but definitely not anymore
How old were you in 2001? - 3
In 1973, how many years was it until you were born - or were you born? - 25 I think?
Have you ever had a crush on someone, and found out they liked your friend? - No
Have you ever been liked by someone you didn’t expect would like you? - I'm not sure? There was a guy in high school that I think liked me but that was never confirmed so I only suspected, but I could've been totally wrong. If he did like me, then yes, and only because we were in separate crowds.
Who ended your last relationship? - I've never been in a relationship
How do you feel about that? - I'll answer according to MY last answer lol. It's low-key embarrassing never having dated or even kissed anyone because it makes me feel like there's something wrong with me OR it makes me feel like OTHERS think there's something wrong with me.
Do Mondays get you down? - Not really. I work in retail so Mondays just mean a slower day which means less crazy or rude people.
How long have you been at your current job? - Almost four years which is INSANE. I don't know how I've lasted this long. I've been saying I want to leave for two and half years but it's not the worst job so I've stuck it out until I have a sense of direction of where I actually want to go. Tbh, just as a vent moment, my job wouldn't be so bad if corporate wasn't so strict and then in turn, we didn't have such high-expecting and can't-be-impressed managers.
Have you ever been fired? - No
How many times have you been pulled over by the cops? - Never! I'm so scared of this so I always drive the speed limit even if my mom is riding shot gun and telling me to stop driving like a grandma.
What is your mood like right now? - I feel really upbeat and content for a change.
Where did you go today? - I went out for a quick grocery stop at Co-Op and then about an hour ago I went out for a small walk with my mom around our neighborhood.
Do you know anyone who is pregnant right now? - Not personally, but what a weird/great question
Do you cut the crusts off your sandwiches? - No
Do you prefer sweet or unsweetened tea? - I don't really drink tea but I love sweet things so probably sweet?
Who did you last embarrass yourself in front of? - Oh my god. I don't even want to relive this but I will for the sake of this survey. I had a zoom interview for an editing mentorship and she sent me the wrong email (which is kind of her fault) so I was worried that I had the time wrong so I joined and she was in the middle of another interview and I was so embarrassed and felt so bad. She was cool about it and took fault, but I'm also very blessed to have social anxiety so I, of course, replayed the moment over and over again in my mind and tortured myself with it for nine or ten hours. Maybe to anyone else it wasn't embarrassing, but I was humiliated and so flustered for my actual interview.
Would you rather meet the president or win $500 dollars from the lottery? - Money please.
What was the reason you last smiled? - Joking around with my mom and sister.
A Little About Your Friends List 8 Good Friends: - My guy, I can tell you right now that I don't have eight friends.

Overwhelmed
Life has been mentally exhausting lately. Work has almost been overwhelming in my life. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love my job. Sometimes I just feel like its consuming my life. I only work 4-5 days a week. I feel like its all I talk about and all I know in my area.
So I'm from Maryland. I moved to Fredericksburg, VA in 2018. I was 23, turning 24 later that year. At the end of 2018, I met who is now my girlfriend. I was working at a pool hall and she was building a store in the mall across the street from my work. Her and her crew are from the grand state of Ohio. Long story longer, I'm now living in Ohio.
Since being here, I haven't really ventured out much. We're right outside of Youngstown, which is the halfway point between Cleveland and Pittsburgh. I've been through Pittsburgh and on the outskirts of Cleveland but I've never been to either city.
I started my job before I was even completely moved up here from Maryland. I've now been there for 3 years and I don't remember the last time I requested off. I was supposed to request off this past Saturday and I forgot because I never do. A few months ago I got promoted to assistant bar manager, so now if I request off I feel like I'm inconveniencing my bosses because my position is literally right below the owners. It's like I've developed a severe "people pleaser" mentality. I know that sometime soon I'm going to need a small vacation because I can feel myself getting burnt out.
I want to spend great quality time with my girlfriend, go on adventures with her, and just have that bonding time. Right now we only hang out after work (she works 6 days a week) and on Sundays.
I'm just afraid of work consuming me. Thanks for coming to my ted talk

But professor… - c.7
Tumblr media
Summary: Penny discovers something
Professor!Walter Marshall x Penny Townsend (Asian ofc)
Wordcount: 3.3k
Warnings: Mentions of sex
Masterlist // But professor… masterlist // Previous chapter // Next chapter
It’s February now and I officially quit school. Never in a million years did I think that I would be good enough for it anyway and when I went back after Christmas break, I realized I wasn’t in the right place at all. Ever since I dropped out, I have been looking into cosmetology school and how to tell my parents about this sudden change.
Walter is getting ready to teach for today and is going to drop me off at the mall, because I need to buy a few things. Since I have yet to move out of the dorm, I need at least some boxes and just some other items.
‘Princess, you look absolutely gorgeous,’ Walter says, patting my butt through my jeans.
I squeal, before turning around, slapping him across his chest. ‘Don’t do that,’ I laugh.
‘Why not?’ He wraps his arms around my waist and lifts me up. ‘You’ve got a cute butt.’
After I triple checked if I have everything, the two of us leave his loft and walk downstairs towards the garage, his hand securely wrapped around mine. Like usual, he opens the door for me and kisses me the second he got in his truck as well. It’s becoming a thing now and it’s weird if he doesn’t do it.
Walter holds my hand as he drives towards the mall. ‘Princess, how about you and I get you moved in the middle of the night? So I can help you carry some boxes.’
‘I can ask someone to help me,’ I say. ‘Maybe just call someone from one of those services. Please, I don’t want to risk running into someone I might possibly know.’ When I notice he isn’t liking it, I say: ‘Please, Walter, don’t sweat it. I can move out myself.’
‘I know, I know,’ he grumbles. ‘It’s just that I want to help you out.’ He presses a kiss on my hand and leans back in his seat. ‘You look beautiful.’
‘Do you need to tell me that every opportunity you get?’
‘Yes,’ he simply says. ‘Come on, princess, scoot a little closer.’
It’s been a few weeks since he got the truck fixed, so I could sit closer to him. I unbuckle myself, before sliding over to his side. He wraps his arm around my shoulders and I close my eyes after I strapped myself into the seatbelt. ‘You’re so needy,’ I chuckle.
‘I’m not needy, I just love you. Need you as close as possible, darling.’
His arm feels heavy on my shoulders and when we’re close to the mall, I say: ‘Do you need anything?’
‘Maybe some snacks, but I’ll leave that up to you.’ He gives me a long kiss, before I get out of the truck.
‘I love you,’ I say.
‘I love you too, princess. Text me when you’re back at the loft, okay?’
‘Will do.’
✎ ✎ ✎
Shopping was nice, until I had to throw up. That never happened to me before. I think in my entire life I have vomited only once, until today. I stare at the stomach contents that are floating in the toilet. I can’t think of eating anything that has made this nauseous I need to puke.
Why would anyone vomit? The only reasons I can imagine is food poisoning, a stomach bug or being pregna—
Oh.
Could it be?
I flush the toilet and with the moving boxes that I have yet to fold into boxes, I walk through the shopping mall to the drugstore. I ask the woman behind the registry if I can have a pregnancy test and she simply nods. I don’t know what I was expecting (maybe the woman first completing a three hour interview before handing me a test, I don’t know), but after I paid for it and hid it in my purse, I walk out of the mall.
What if I’m pregnant? I mean, yes, I did skip a period, but that is not new to me. I mean, I’ve been pretty regular all my life, minus a few times. Normally me skipping a period didn’t make me suspect anything, since I wasn’t having sex, nor was I the next virgin Mary, but now…
Walter and I have been having sex quite a lot. I mean, it’s always with a condom of course, but even those are not one hundred percent effective.
I might be naive from time to time, but I’m not that stupid to unrealistic about the effectiveness of condoms.
The bus ride back to the loft couldn’t be any longer and when I finally arrive at Walter’s place (soon to be ours), I quickly text him I’m home, before hiding into the bathroom. Buying one was weird, peeing on a stick is weirder.
As I wait for the two minutes to pass by, I think about what to do. Would I have a baby at this age? I mean, I’ve always wanted kids and maybe now is a good time? Okay, no, it’s not absolutely ideal (the timing couldn’t have been more off), but… I’m not in school right now and—
Oh no, that’s just me being selfish and only thinking about my situation. I haven’t even thought about Walter yet. We never spoke about having kids, because I don’t think you are supposed to do that this early on in your relationship.
Right?
Oh my goodness, this is too much for me to think about. Let’s just wait until I see what the test says. I mean, there is a possibility I’m not pregnant and just a little bit late with my period and caught a stomach bug. Why think about all sorts of scenarios when there is a chance that it’s not applicable to me.
I grab the test and discover it has two strips. After a quick examination of the box I discover that…
I’m pregnant.
✎ ✎ ✎
Six hours. Six hours have passed by since I took the first test. In that time, I went back to the drugstore, to buy another one and peed on that one as well. They say there is no such thing as a false positive, but I’d rather be too sure.
And that one was also positive.
So naturally I spend my time wisely until Walter came home. I’ve been pacing through the loft, looked online how to tell your partner that you are pregnant and I ate some watermelon.
Walter walks in with a deep frown between his brows, but that disappears when he sees me. ‘Princess,’ he says, ‘you have no idea how much I missed you.’ He sits next to me on the couch and gives me a kiss. The frown appears again when he takes in my expressions. ‘What’s wrong?’
‘I’ve got something to tell you.’
He nods. ‘Are you okay?’
‘Yes, it’s just that… I don’t know. It’s kinda huge.’
He places his arm on the backrest, while his other hand takes mine. ‘Tell me, princess.’
Don’t beat around the bush, just tell him. ‘I’m pregnant, Walter.’
If it were possible, I’d suspect someone pressed on pause, because Walter completely froze. He tries to find some words for it, however nothing seems to leave his lips. I mean, what am I expecting from him? I’m trying to figure out whether or not I should be happy or scared.
‘Oh,’ he finally says. ‘And you’re planning to keep the baby or not?’
I nod. ‘I do and I understand that it’s too soon for us and that you won’t want to stay. I really understand that, Walter. I’m so sorry.’
Walter scoffs and actually looks super offended. ‘I do not understand why you think I wouldn’t stay, because I’m going to be right by your side, every step of the way.’ He squeezes in my hand and says: ‘You will never get rid of me that easily, princess.’
I let out a nervous chuckle, realizing how stupid it was of me to actually think he wouldn’t stay. I mean, we’re talking about Walter here. ‘I’m sorry,’ I say, ‘for just assuming. It’s just that my brain is working overtime. I might be a little scared.’
He nods. ‘I understand. It’s quite a lot, but let’s think about one thing first, okay?’ His lips curl up into a smile and says: ‘We’re going to be parents.’
When someone else says it, it’s even more meaningful. My eyes fill with tears as realization hit that I am indeed gonna be a mom and that Walter is staying, thus becoming a dad.
Walter pulls me closer and gives me a kiss on my forehead. ‘Princess, it’s okay.’
‘I know, but it’s so scary. So much is gonna change.’
He nods. ‘Nothing we can’t handle though.’ He pulls me on his lap and gives me another peck, this time on my lips. ‘Now we really need to get you out of that dorm. This weekend I’ll make sure someone is gonna help you with moving and you’re gonna stay right here with me.’
I smile. ‘I can’t wait.’
‘And,’ he says, ‘do you really want to go to cosmetology school now? We can always arrange something when the baby is here.’
‘I kinda want to focus on the pregnancy first, since I have no idea what to expect.’
‘Alright,’ he says, ‘then we’ll wait with that.’ He places his hand on my flat stomach and says: ‘Oh shit, Penny, I’m gonna be a dad.’
I can’t help but squeal when I think about it a while longer. ‘And I’m gonna be a mom.’
✎ ✎ ✎
It’s only obvious that we have to tell my parents. After I had my first scan, I realize that I really shouldn’t push the matter and just tell them, especially because the baby is healthy and I’m out of my first trimester at fifteen weeks of pregnancy. Besides, I also officially live with Walter and those nerves are slowly becoming less and less prevalent.
My bump is minuscule, but that doesn’t stop Walter from continuously placing his hands on it when he can. It doesn’t matter what we’re doing, his hands are always on my stomach, but that’s okay. It’s sweet to see the demeanor of the detective change from someone who always has a figurative thunderstorm hanging above his head, to someone with childlike happiness.
We’re driving to Maryland now and we’ve been on the road for a mere forty-five minutes, when I say: ‘I have to pee.’
Walter starts to laugh loudly. ‘Again? Princess, you went three times back at home.’
Home. That shouldn’t make me giggly, but sure does. ‘I know, but I have to go again.’
‘Lucky you there’s a gas station right here.’ He gets off the road and parks his car. ‘Want something to eat, princess?’
‘Some orange juice, chips and chocolate.’
He simply nods and tells me to stay put. As usual, he opens the door for me. He was already very chivalrous when we just started dating, but pregnancy has multiplied it by a hundred. He securely places his hand on the small of my back and like the true detective he is, he checks everything and everyone in the gas station, before he says: ‘I’ll be right here, princess.’
I squeeze his hand, a silent thank you, before walking off to the restrooms to pee. After I washed and dried my hands, I exit the restrooms, to see Walter is already waiting for me, with all the snacks I wanted and even some more.
It’s nice to know that he still loves me a lot, even after we spend so many weeks together.
Once we’re back in the car, I let out a deep sigh.
‘Princess, you okay?’
‘Yeah, I’m good. Just tired.’
‘Why don’t you sleep?’ he suggests. ‘I’ll let you know once we’re close.’
I groan. ‘No, because that is so boring and I’ve been boring for so many weeks now.’
He scoffs. ‘You’re not boring, you’re pregnant. You’re allowed to be tired, princess and please just catch up on some sleep now.’
I hold his hand in mine, as I close my eyes and drift off to a light sleep. Walter doesn’t need to wake me up, because after an hour or so my eyes flutter open and I smile. ‘We’re almost there?’
‘Maybe an hour?’
I grab some of the snacks and feed Walter, as he continues to watch the road. I once saw how he drove, because we were video calling then. It was fast, hasty and in my opinion not very safe. When he drives with me, he doesn’t ignore the speed limits and is very very safe.
Imagine if there’s a child in the back, I bet he’ll drive just as safe, if not safer.
He places his hand on my stomach and says: ‘I’m not gonna lie, but I’m kinda nervous to meet your parents.’
‘You are?’ I ask. I thought nervous wasn’t in his dictionary. ‘Why?’
‘I don’t know, it’s just nerve wracking. Not only have I never met them, but I also got you pregnant. That usually doesn’t do well.’
‘Oh, I wouldn’t worry,’ I say. ‘My parents are very open minded. Besides, my mom and I used to watch Sixteen and Pregnant and she always said that despite not having to worry about that since I lived like a nun back then, she’d love a grandchild. So, I think we’re good. Also, my dad is probably a little scared of you. He is not that tall.’
Walter chuckles. ‘Well, maybe this’ll go well.’
‘It’ll go splendid, Walter,’ I say, ‘really. If my parents see how well you take care of me, then there is nothing to worry about.’ I place my hand on his and whisper: ‘They’ll love you.’
He smiles. ‘Good. Alright, let me get this straight one last time: we met at a coffee place, right?’
‘Correct,’ I chuckle.
The last part of the drive goes by fast and before we get out of the truck, I put on a sweater to hide the little bump. Walter unbuckles himself and his hand slips underneath the thick fabric, placing it on my tiny bump. He leans forward to press a kiss on it and says: ‘I can do this forever. I might have to quit my job, so I can do this whenever I want.’
I roll my eyes. He has been taking this dad thing so serious and while sometimes it’s very cheesy, I love him for it. Really, I couldn’t have asked for a better man to start having a family with. Is it pretty short notice, being only together a little over four months? Yes, of course, but that’s okay. I feel like the two of us can actually handle it. ‘We should go.’
We get out of the car and when we walk up to the door (Walter holding our luggage, since my mom insisted we stayed in the house I grew up in) my parents open the it and mom runs up to me.
‘Oh, honey, there you are!’ She gives me a hug and I hold back a little, so she won’t feel my bump against her body. I give my dad a hug as well and they look both hopeful and a little nervous when they see Walter.
‘Mom, dad, this is my boyfriend Walter. Walter, these are my parents, Lance and CC.’
Walter is polite, a role that fits him so well, yet I barely see it. He is always so sweet and kind to me, so grumpy and annoyed when it comes to my classmates and so neutral when it’s others. Now it changes a bit. He smiles, he shakes my parents’ hands and from the look of their faces, he isn’t over squeezing it (I actually had to tell him that). ‘Nice to meet you,’ Walter says. ‘You have a lovely looking home.’
‘Oh, aren’t you a dear.’ Mom ushers us to come inside and Walter places his hand on my back, as we follow them inside. I give him a little nod, a sign that it is all going well.
And, it actually goes really well. My parents are in love with Walter and he is slowly warming up to them, eventually even cracking some jokes. We talked about how the two of us “met”, what Walter does for a living (currently he is working at the police department in New York and not as professor at NYU) and a little bit about my parents’ work. Of course, the subject school came up once or twice, but I kinda chickened out telling them I actually quit.
I clear my throat and say: ‘I actually have some news.’
Walter finds my hand underneath the table and gives me a reassuring squeeze.
‘What is it, honey?’ mom asks.
I look at Walter, whose eyes say it all: I’m ready when you are. ‘Well,’ I whisper, ‘I… I’m pregnant.’
Oh no, they’re silent. Oh my gosh, how are they going to react? I bet they’re mad. Oh, shit, my dad is clenching his jaw. They are totally mad.
‘Are you serious?’ my mom asks, blinking a few times.
I nod. ‘Fifteen weeks.’
‘Oh my goodness,’ mom says. ‘Honey, that is amazing. I am so happy for you.’ She stands up from the table and walks over to me. I give her a hug and she whispers: ‘You’ll be a fantastic mom.’ She pulls back and squeals something about becoming a grandmother. She places her hand on my stomach. ‘Oh my, a little bump. Honey, this’ll go fantastic. I am sure you and Walter will become magnificent parents. That reminds me, Walter, give me a hug. You’re officially part of the family, now. Congratulations, sweetheart.’
Walter stands up and gives my mom a tight hug. Dad walks up to me and holds my face in his hands. ‘You’re gonna be an amazing mother,’ he says.
‘You think so?’
‘I don’t think so, I know so.’ He gives me a kiss on my forehead and says: ‘Is this also a right moment to tell me you quit school?’
My eyes enlarge. ‘How did you know?’
‘You can maybe fool your mom, but you can never fool me, sweetheart. You know, you focus on your pregnancy now. You can always go back to school.’
I let out a sigh of relief. Thankfully he is pretty cool about me just quitting. We’ll talk about eventually going to cosmetology school a little bit later on. ‘I love you, dad.’
‘I love you too.’
✎ ✎ ✎
That night, Walter and I are in my old room, squeezed in my two person bed (that is a little slimmer than the one back in the loft) and we reminisce about the evening. It went more than splendid, even when my mom forced me to take off my sweater so she could see the bump. She called at least ten friends to tell them she is gonna be a grandmother and that the child will be gorgeous and lovely, though they have yet to be born.
Walter turns to his side so he can look at me and says: ‘Okay, I have a proposition,’ he says, ‘and I want your honest opinion.’
‘Okay.’
‘How about, you and I move to Maryland?’
Is he serious? ‘Really?’
‘Really. I could see how happy your parents were with the pregnancy and maybe… Maybe they’d like it if you would be closer to them. Besides, I can arrange something and work in Maryland. It’s not like I’m bounded to New York. For that matter, I actually really want to leave that place, because if I see that slimy ass Fitzgerald one more time…’
While I start to laugh because of his personal vendetta against Fitzgerald, my hormones are also all over the place, because I bawl my eyes out only a second later.
‘Princess, don’t cry. This is good news.’ He presses kisses on my temple and cheek, kissing my tears away. ‘But I’ll take that as a yes?’
I nod. ‘I would love that, Walter. Thank you.’

How did Dalton react when he saw the famous Kathy interview with Niel Kev and Riko? I’d like to see how he reacted to that and all the post game interviews (especially the iconic Kevin one where he “has never gone skiing before”). I think Dalton must have come across one interview and just went down the rabbit hole. Maybe even Neil’s roasts?? Sorry this is a looong ask post
no i LOVE this!!
he knows he shouldn’t, not unless kevin says it’s okay, but dalton googles kevin after he leaves maryland to go back to south carolina.
it's not like he’s going to find anything bad.  and plus, he loves kevin.  and kevin loves him.  he’d just told him this week for the first time.
the top result is a buzzed article titled “kevin day had a near photoshoot with fans in times square, and we’re definitely jealous”.  below it are the most recent things like him coming out, and videos of him playing.
dalton refines his search.  specifically to last spring and fall.  his first year stepping onto the foxhole court as a player.
the first thing to come up is an interview with kathy ferdinand, neil josten, and riko moriyama.
dalton knows enough about riko moriyama for it to make his blood boil.
he also doesn’t realize that the brunette in the cover photo for the video is neil until he watches him get introduced to the stage.  he’s known from the second he saw neil that he’d been through some tough shit, but he didn’t realize it was all from last year.  the neil in the interview is clean.
also, he’s gawking over neil by the end of the interview.  he has to rewatch it to fully get it all.  kevin’s talked about neil and his attitude, and dalton’s experienced it maybe once, but holy shit he tore riko moriyama to shreds.
the only reason he isn’t laughing at how badass it is is because he can see how traumatized kevin looks.  if he hadn’t known him, he wouldn’t have noticed, but dalton knows his body language by now.  seeing him truly terrified with his abuser right there makes dalton want to wrap his arms around him.  he wishes he wasn’t already back in south carolina.
he runs his hands over his face and reruns neil’s words in his head.
“i don’t think you’re telling Kevin to sit out because of his health. i think you know this season is going to be a disaster for your reputation. you and kevin have always played in each other’s shadows. you’ve always been a pair. now you have to face each other on the court as rivals for the first time, and people are finally going to know which one of you is better. they’re going to know how premature this was. i think you’re scared.”
it gives him more insight on kevin and riko’s relationship, and while he wishes he never had to see it recorded, he’s glad he does.  with the way neil’s talking, it seems like he’d known all about it, too.  or else he wouldn’t openly be hating on riko the way he was.
after that, and after calming himself down from literally seeing kevin’s abuser and thanking god that he’s dead, he continues on.  the majority of the other videos are from press duty after games, and he clicks on a reoccurring one titled “KEVIN DAY NEVER BEEN SKIING???”  dalton knows this, and he also knows that the public thought that he’d broken his hand in a skiing accident, so he’s curious enough to click on it.
he gasps so hard.  it’s just such a blunt statement that so obviously dumbfounded all of the press trying to interview them.
he keeps going.
and they’re never-ending
“every time kevin day yells to neil josten in french”
or “29 times andrew minyard comes up behind kevin day but just stares into the camera”
“kevin day being approached by fans”
“kevin day and riko moriyama speaking japanese”  he doesn’t watch that one.
“compilation of neil josten being a pain in kevin day’s ass”  that one’s twenty-eight minutes long.
“kevin day looking stressed every time neil speaks”
“kevin day yelling neil’s name, except every time he does the pitch gets higher”
“kevin day’s fist pump every time they win a game”
“i ran into kevin day every time i went to eden’s nightclub last fall and had the same conversation about how to say croissant’s every time”  there’s videos from each time, some with the phone camera unknowingly recording him, some with the view of their chins from below, and some of the floor as if she “wasn’t recording”.  he doesn’t seem to remember her from before in any of the videos.  at the end there’s 7 pictures of them, with the same pose, all from different nights.  drunk kevin is funny.
dalton wishes he could see it, but he knocks that thought right out because he’s proud of kevin for being sober.
“speaking french with kevin day at the mall: AWKWARD”  that one is from this summer with subtitles at the bottom.  the girl goes up to him, and he doesn’t seem to see her coming until she’s in front of him.  “bonjour!”  kevin says, “oh, hello.”
when she continues in french to ask how his day is he makes the switch.  “do you speak english?”  “yes, i just knew you spoke french, sorry”  “oh… it’s okay, uh, do you mind not recording me?”  she lowers her phone a little.  “it’s still recording.”  “it’s not, anymore.”  “okay, well, i’ve got to go”  neil calls him you can see his feet shuffle.  “bye.”
then there’s one’s where he’s roasting interviewers.
“why don’t you smile for us?”  “smiling won’t make a difference in any of my answers.  next question.”
“you came out, just this week, to be dating a man.  any change in positions, if you know what i mean?”  she laughs.  kevin leans back, catching matt’s eye.  “what an embarrassing question.  that’ll be all.  matt, let’s go.”
“i’m sorry about the death of riko moriyama, but the way.  to have someone of a brother go in such a way must have been hard for you, yes?”  “well, good thing we were never brothers.”  he adds on.  “i don’t appreciate you actively trying to get a reaction out of me.  i think we’re done here?  yes?”
“now that he’s off his drugs, is andrew minyard a threat to the team?”  “why would you think that?”  “well, we all know his timeline, his history”  “time is a social construct.  i’ll go find andrew to take my spot, if we’re not going to focus on the game.”
“surely you guys must get plenty of girls drooling over you, with what such an intense workout regimen does!”  “girls aren’t animals.  educate yourself, please.”
that’s the one that dalton sends to carmen.  he can’t help it.   she loves it, texts him back a series of keyboard smashes and heart eye emojis.  A FEMINIST.
the next time dalton uses his laptop it’s to look up a tutorial with kevin.  he stops and turns the screen when dalton scrambles to open a new tab.
“so how much have you seen?”
dalton cringes, but sinks into kevin’s side.  “kathy?  and... the croissants,” he whispers, and-
“jesus christ.”  kevin gets up and heads to dalton’s bathroom to shower.  “it’s pronounced croissant!”
