Lets get Married
Summary: On a class trip to Vegas, Peter is determined to make this trip a memorable one, even if it means doing something crazy.
Pairing: Peter Parker x Stark!Reader
Word count: 2911
Masterlist
Note: If you’ve never heard Lets get married by bleachers you are missing out.
Taking a bunch of 17/18 year olds to vegas probably wasn't the best idea. Between Flash's constant suggestions on going to a strip club and being stuck on a crowded bus in 90 degree weather, it was already turning out to be terrible.
"Well someone doesn't look too happy" Peter joked as you rested your head on his shoulder. You could feel a headache forming in your head and the heat was only making things worse. "If Flash doesn't stop talking I'm going to stab him" you groaned trying to block out his loud voice.
Peter chuckled, giving you a kiss on your forehead, "sorry to burst your bubble but it's my job as Spiderman to make sure you don't do that"
You rolled your eyes, "but it's your job as Peter AKA my boyfriend to let me get away with it"
"You do realize you're joking about murder" Mj interrupt as she poked her head above her seat in front of you. "I know you're thinking the same thing Mj". She shrugged before returning to the book.
"I’m very glad we finally got a peaceful field trip I don’t think I can handle another Europe or Washington" You joked looking up at Peter. He chuckled, “Don’t jinx it. I don’t want any sort of trouble to happen”
"Well we could always cause some trouble" you smirked, "I've been researching some casinos"
"Since when do you know how to gamble" He laughed. "I'm Tony Stark's daughter doing risky stuff is in my blood. Plus my dad left me with his credit card" you opened your wallet showing Peter the shiny black amex that was tucked in the pocket.
“I don’t know about this,” He said nervously. You scoffed, “You’re telling me that I made all of us get fake IDs and you’re not even going to let me gamble”
Peter rolled his eyes, remembering the exact day you were talking about. It was almost a month ago when you tricked him and your friends into taking photos that they thought were for the yearbook but turned out to be fake IDs that you needed to get into a party. “I never wanted that fake ID”
“Yeah but you’re beautiful girlfriend got you one anyway” You leaned over placing a soft kiss on his neck, “Please baby let have some fun. You know what they say What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas”
"If you guys are planning on sneaking out, count me in" Mj interrupted, not bothering to wait for a reply before ducking her head back over the seat.
Peter sighed as he shook his head, "Fine but only because Ned has been studying the art of poker for weeks". He pointed to the row next to you where Ned sat reading The Poker Players Bible
“He’s learning poker from a book?” You shook your head in amusement, “He’s gonna lose”
Peter chuckled, “Have some faith in him. I think he’d make an excellent poker player”. You rolled your eyes, glancing at Ned again before looking back at Peter.
"Wanna make a bet?" You smirked sitting up from your slouched position. Peter smiled and nodded. "We'll let Ned play three games of poker. If he wins at least twice I'll do whatever you want but is he loses twice then you have to do whatever I want"
He hesitated trying to figure out whether or not you were joking. He rolled his eyes when he realized you were serious, "deal". He shook your hand, "I need to talk to Ned''. You rolled your eyes and put on your headphones as Peter got up and walked to the row besides you.
You didn't notice but Peter had been nervous ever since the plane had landed in Vegas. He knew you'd always wanted to come here and he wanted to make your first trip here a memorable one. "Hey Ned" he whispered, glancing towards you to make sure you weren't paying attention, "I need your help"
"I thought you said you wouldn't have to do Spiderman things on this trip" he replied in a worried tone.
Peter shook his head, "no it's not that" he reassured, "Y/N and Mj are going to come with us tonight to the Casino, but I've made a bet with Y/N and I need you to win two of three poker games tonight"
Ned smiled, "don't worry I've got this I spent the whole plane ride playing in small online competitions and I've won a few games so I'm pretty much a pro"
"great" Peter chuckled nervously, "I'm just nervous. I still don't know what I'm going to do to make this trip memorable for her" he glanced at you watching as you stared out the window.
"Why don't you just cross out number 4 on her bucket list" Ned said as he looked at his book again.
"What are you talking about?" Peter questioned. Ned sighed putting down his book again, "do you remember last summer when we all hung out at her place and she stole a bottle of her dads tequila and she started talking about her bucket list"
Peter nodded waiting for Ned to explain, "well number 4 was get married in Vegas even if it's just a joke"
A burst of laughter exploded from Peter, "are you insane? I can't do that. Her father will kill me" he whispered trying to avoid the strange looks he was getting from his sudden outburst.
"Oh come on I'm sure he'll find it funny" Ned smiled.
Peter nodded, “Ok yeah I’m gonna do it. I'm gonna marry her”. Ned chuckled, "Great. Now I need to study or else you’re going to lose this bet” He returned back to his book as Peter, who was now lost in his thoughts returned back to his seat, letting you rest your head on his shoulder for the rest of the bus ride.
///
“Ned if you don’t quiet down we’re going to get caught” You whispered as you and your friend piled out the hotel room. It was nearing 11 and all the teachers had forced the students to stay in the rooms for the rest of the night. “Your heels are making more noise than me” Ned joked as you all entered the elevator.
You rolled your eyes grabbing Peter wrist to look at the time on his watch, “Alright we all need to be back by 4:30”
To your surprise the casino wasn’t crowded, then again who is going to a casino on a Monday night. “Ok babe, me and Mj are gonna play craps. I'll leave Ned to practice before you lose this bet” You kissed his cheek before grabbing Mj’s hand and guiding her to the dice table.
“Don’t you think your father is going to question why there are charges to a Vegas casino on his credit card?” Mj asked as you took money out of the ATM. You shrugged, “That’s a problem for another day”. She chuckled as you moved to the table and placed your bets on the game. The dealer handed you your chips as well as the dice signaling to you that the game had started.
It was only an hour later when Peter met up with you and Mj. He wrapped his arms around your waist as you placed your betting chips in their spots, “Are you winning?” He whispered as you grabbed the dice from the table.
“I’ve done pretty good so far. I need a 7” You shook the dice in your hand before turning to him, “Kiss for good luck?”
He chuckled and gave you a quick kiss, watching as you threw the dice. He could sense your nervousness as the dice moved down the table hitting the wall before landing on the lucky number 7.
Everyone at the table shouted cheerfully, happy that they had won the round. You gather your chips from the dealer, “Alright Jerry it's been nice playing with you I hope to do it again sometime” you waved goodbye as you all walked to the poker table where Ned sat waiting for the group to join him before he started another game.
“Alright Ned three games I betting on two loses but Peter thinks differently” You teased as he rolled his eyes, “Prove me right”
If you were being honest you didn’t exactly know what was going on. You’d seen you father and the other avengers play poker before but they never let you in on the game so you hardly knew anything about it, but so far you could tell that you were losing the bet.
Ned was in the middle of the second game and according to Mj, who didn’t have a biased opinion on this bet, things were looking good for Peter. Ned had won the first game and it looked like he was going to win this one. You sighed in annoyance, hating that you had to admit you were wrong.
Peter smiled, wrapping his arms around you, “Don’t worry babe I think you’ll actually like that i have planned”. You rolled your eyes watching as Ned cheered clearly happy that he won the game. You sighed, “Ok what do you want”
“Give me 3 minutes. Stay here” He smiled, grabbing Mj’s arm, leaving you alone at the table with Ned.
“Ned what does he have planned?” You smirked hoping to wean out whatever Peter was going to do. He shook his head, “Y/N I love you but Peter’s my best friend and I can’t just give away the surprise” You rolled your eyes, turning around at watch as Peter talked to Mj.
“Please Mj” Peter begged, “I want to make this trip memorable and i'm only asking you because her father doesn’t know”
“You’re insane” her eyes widened at the thought of you and Peter getting married this young, “You guys are 18 do you seriously think getting married is the best idea”
“It’s been on her bucket list for years” He pointed out trying to justify his plans. “Please Mj if not for me then do it for the happiness of your best friend”
She took a deep breath, “Fine I will walk Y/N down the aisle”. Peter smiled pulling Mj into a tight hug. “You’re the best”
///
“Guys I don’t appreciate surprises” You joked as Ned guided you through the crowded sidewalk. “Don’t worry we’re almost there” He reassured you. You sighed and kept walking as all your friends laughed.
You came to a sudden stop as Peter grabbed your hand, “Ok Ned you can uncover her eyes” he chuckled. Ned took his hands off your eyes stepping back as you looked around in confusion. Peter was on one knee with a nervous smile plastered on his face. “Y/N I love you”
“Peter what are you doing?” You looked up noticing the small chapel you all stood in front of, “Please don’t tell me-”
“I love you and I know this is on your bucket list so” he kissed you hand, “Will you marry me?”
You stood silent for a moment, shock taking over your body, “Peter-” His face dropping, thinking maybe this was completely ridiculous. You smiled through as sigh, “Yes I will marry you”
He stood up quickly, pulling you into a hug. “Alright well we better hurry because it’s already 3 and we need to be back at the hotel soon”
You nodded your head as everyone walked into the small chapel, “Hi I made an appointment online” Peter said nervously as you walked to the front desk hand in hand, Mj and Ned trailing close behind you.
“Peter?” The short lady said. He nodded, grabbing his ID and handing it to her. You did the same as she typed the information in the computer. “Ok boys you can go through there and stand at the altar, girls you can come with me”
She smiled guiding you and Mj into a separate room, “Ok so we have different dress and veil options for you to pick from but you don’t seem like an extremely flashy girl so I'm going to suggest the little white dress option”
She handed you a hanger that held a body con white dress with glitter details, it actually looked like something you had in your closet at home. You nodded your head moving to the dressing room to put in on. You locked the door behind you taking this time as a moment for you to take everything in. You were about to get married. Even if it was just a joke it was still a crazy thing to do. You weren’t nervous that you’d regret it, you loved Peter with all your heart, but you were nervous about everyone else's reactions. I can do this, You whispered to yourself putting the dress on before walking out the small room.
“Alright here goes nothing” You smiled nervously and you grabbed Mj’s arm. The song over the speaker began to play as you slowly walked down the aisle. Peter turned to look at you, shocked at how good you looked in all white, a color you rarely ever wore.
"Wow" he muttered as you stood in front of him, handing your bouquet of fake flowers to Mj as she stood behind you. "You look amazing" You smiled grabbing his hand.
"Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today to witness and celebrate the union of Peter Benjamin Parker and Y/N Y/M/N Stark, in marriage. In the years they have been together, their love and understanding of each other has grown and matured, and now they have decided to live their lives together as husband and wife" the short lady read from the thin book in her hands. "Do you Peter Parker, take Y/N Stark to be your lawfully wedded wife, to have and to hold, from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, until death do you part?"
Peter smiled, looking you in the eyes, "I do"
"Do you Y/N Stark take Peter Parker to be you lawfully wedded husband, to have and to hold, from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, until death do you part"
You nodded your head enthusiastically, "I do"
"Then I now pronounce you husband and wife you may now kiss the bride" the room filled the applause as you pulled Peter into a quick passionate kiss. Only pulling apart when you realized your empty fingers, "wait we don't have rings"
"Oh i got that covered" Ned said cheerfully as he pulled out two contained of rings, the ones you usually get from the quarter machines, "they were the only ones I could find on short notice"
"they're perfect Ned", you chuckled, pulling out the pink and purple rings, "Dibs on pink"
Peter rolled his eyes forcing the small ring onto his finger, "I don't think I'll ever be able to take this off" he joked
"That's the point of a wedding ring" you grabbed his hand, "you can't get rid of me that easily"
"Alright time for pictures and then certificate" the short lady appeared with a Polaroid Camera snapping pictures of you and Peter.
"Are you happy?" You looked up and smiled. "I'm married to my favorite girl in the whole world. Why wouldn't I be happy?" Peter smirked before giving you a quick kiss.
Time flew by so fast. After the certificate was signed, a bottle of champagne was popped leading you to get extremely tipsy. By the time you all got back to the hotel it was already 5. Peter carried you up the stair bridal style watching as you moved sleepily in his arms.
"What the hell" Flash said loudly startling everyone. You all turned around watching as Flash stood in the hallway in his bathrobe surrounded by two girls who definitely weren't students. "Go to bed Flash" you mumbled, cuddling further into Peter's arms.
"You guys snuck out?" He said in a shocked voice, "Oh I can't wait until you guys to get caught"
Mj chuckled opening the door to the hotel room you shared with her, "Flash do those girls know that you're 16" she lied. The girls gasped quickly walking away from the angered boy. He took a deep breath before stomping back into his room. "Gosh I hate that dude" Ned said as you all walked into the hotel room.
Peter placed you in bed, taking off your shoes before tucking you in, "I'll see you tomorrow morning Mrs. Parker"
You smile tiredly, "I love you Mr. Parker"
///
"Well well well if it isn't the newly weds" Your father said angrily as you walked through the elevator doors. You kept your composure not wanting to give you and peter away
"What are you talking about?" You said through a smile
"Don't act dumb" you father said as he pulled out a piece of paper from his pocket, "I'm the one who gave Peter the emergency credit card I can see everything he buys"
Your eyes widened, Peter took a deep breath, "Mr. Stark-"
"Im gonna give you ten seconds to run" Your father said as he threw down the paper.
"I'll talk to you later babe" Peter quickly kissed your cheek before rushing out the room. You father quickly trailing behind

New Scaremester Invisi Billy Diary
8.1
I am not a ghost, or a spirit, or a phantom. I am invisible. I was at the die-ner today with Scarah just hanging out, having a piece of pie, when Nefera accidentally locked her keys in the car. Nefera came inside, marched over to our booth and asked me to stick my arm through the window of her car and hit the unlock button. I told her I would be happy to if she would just roll it down so I wouldn’t hurt my hand. Then she totally yelled at me and pulled the “Do you know who I am?” card. I tried to be calm and tell her that I wasn’t a ghost and I couldn’t help her the way she needed me to, but that I would be happy to call a tow truck for her, which only made her angrier, “I’m going to have my father buy this place and you’ll never be allowed to eat here again!” Some days it seems like I just can’t be invisible enough.
8.3
I got to go to the set with dad today. He’s been working on this big action film that’s all about who will be the next king to sit on this throne made of bones. There are lots of frights in shining armor and castles and battles and stuff. It’s pretty clawsome! Today he was doing a special effect for his big scene where one of the heroes throws a dagger and cuts a rope that drops a drawbridge so the good frights can come in and save the day. The director is totally old ghoul, though, and doesn’t want to turn the dagger into a digital effect. So my dad basically “flies” it to the target. I’ve watched him do things like this since I was little, and I still think it’s scary cool. It’s what I want to do, too, when I’m finished with school. I think dad is okay with me disappearing in his footsteps, but he’s pretty hardcore that I concentrate on school first. I can see his point of view, so I’ve taken what I’ve learned from him and I try to use it in our MH stage productions. Mr. Where has been pretty creeperific about choosing productions that have special effects so I can use my skills.
8.5
Since I’ve unlived here my entire life, and I’ve gone through both the elementary and middle schools before starting at MH, I’m pretty familiar with the school and all the teachers; because I am so familiar, Headmistress Bloodgood asked me to be a student ambassador. It’s fun to meet the new ghouls and guys and help show them around so they don’t feel so lost on the first day. Today, as I was waiting for my first group to show up, three upcoming student bodies walked walked by playing the “super powers” game. It’s the game where you get to choose one and only one super power from the list of super speed, super strength, flight or invisibility. Once you chose your power you have to tell why you picked it and what you would do with that power if you had it. I always wanted to replace invisibility with invulnerability, buy you don’t just go changing rules on a classic because you don’t like them. Anyway, I usually picked super speed ‘cause I thought it would be creepy cool to get all my chores and homework done in under a minute, which would leave 23:59 in a day to do whatever I wanted. I definitely have never thought that invisibility was a super power unless being ignored, forgotten, knocked down and accidentally sat on would qualify. Some of the guys use to say, “Dude! Invisibility must be the bomb - you can sneak into movies and concerts, listen in on the ghoul’s conversations, leave class early or whatever you wanted.” All that’s true, but then I’d be a super villain, and I always wanted to be one of the good guys.
8.9
Met Twyla at MH to find out which new students we would be the ambassador/tour guides for. I didn’t recognize the monsters Twyla was guiding, but I heard they were an unusual group of creatures that were transferring in from another school. I ended up being the ambassador/tour guide for Gigi and Catt, and I was really nervous only because Gigi was once a powerful genie that could grant any wish and Catty was/is an international pop star. I’m surprised I only managed to get embarrassed twice during the tour. The first time it was because I had a really hard time not calling Catty by her full name, and apparently I must have been referring to her by both names during the whole tour because at one point she and Gigi started giggling and Catty said, “Billy, if we’re going to be friends it’s okay for you to just use my first name.” Embarrassing moment number two came as a result of me saying, “I wish!” several times when they asked me questions. Gigi obviously picked up on this and kept saying things like, “I’m not sure you’d like the way that would turn out,” and “Nope - you can’t have that one, either.” Finally I realized what I was doing and I got totally flustered, but they’re both so creepy cool about it that I started laughing, too, and before the tour was over it wasn’t like I was giving a tour, it was like we were old friends just fanging out.
8.10
Today was student ID picture day, and I told Scarah we’d meet up at MH, get our pictures taken and then go grab a coffinccino at the Coffin Bean after we were done. When I got there Scarah was in a bad mood about something she didn’t want to talk about. I made it my mission to cheer her up. Now I can become visible when I want to, but I usually stay invisible because it’s easier since I don’t have to think about it. I became visible when I sat for my picture, and as the photographer got behind the camera I faded away. He snapped a picture, looked at it, looked at his camera, made a little grunting noise and asked to take another one. I could see Scarah’s mouth start to twitch. It was totally on after that as I made everything disappear except my right eye, then my left ear, then half of my face, then half my body. Scarah was barely keeping it together. The photographer had changed lenses three times and was mumbling about vampires and ghosts. Finally I heard, “Invisi Billy behave!” I looked over to see Headless Headmistress Bloodgood standing in the doorway. She was trying to look stern and not doing a very good job of it. I finally appeared, got my pic taken, and when Scarah got hers she was ready for that coffinccino and a chance to talk about what was bothering her.
8.17
I opened my locker today, and a four-leaf clover fell out. I picked it up, touched it to my nose and then put it in a little box with the others. Scarah always leaves one for me if she knows I have an upcoming test or big event where a little “luck” would be helpful. Then again, sometimes she just leaves one to let me know she’s thinking about me, which is pretty cool considering she’s a telepath. That’s how we first met...kind of, sort of. I was dodging through the hall trying not to get knocked down/run into, and Scarah was dodging through the hall trying not to read anyone’s mind, and bam...our thoughts met head on. I’m not an innate, or trained, telepath, but Scarah says I project what amounts to an SOS (Sorry-Oops-Sorry) signal when I’m trying to navigate through a crowd. She stopped right in front of me, and we did the thing that happens when you try and dodge someone but end up dodging in the same direction. We both laughed, and as I walked past I heard a voice in my head saying, “Of course I’d say yes if you invited me to the Coffin Bean.” I’m pretty sure I blushed through my invisibility that day. We’ve been dating ever since, and I hope she doesn’t have to read my mind to know how I feel about her.

Summer Fling
Pairing: Lee Jeno x reader Word count: 1.8k
Synopsis: Was it really him, or someone who looked like him? You didn’t care, you just needed answers.
“J-Jeno?” you looked at the boy and his gang. He simply gave you a look, but the gaze in his eyes was so cold you shivered. No, it couldn’t be him. The Jeno you knew was a nice, kind and smiley boy. He definitely wasn’t a-
“Y/N” he called out your name and you turned. Was it really him? Did he really remember you?
“You dropped this.” He picked your ID card off the floor and held it out to you. You took it from him and walked away quickly as he turned towards the boys. However, even as you walked away, his eyes stayed on you. He did remember you, but it wasn’t the right time yet.
“What happened?” Mina saw your disheveled state as you walked into your dorm room. Your face was pale and you had pinched yourself until your forearm became red.
“I think I just saw a ghost, Mina.” you pulled the curtains away to look at the boy who leaned against the blue Audi and joked around with his friends. His eyes formed crescents as he smiled and laughed.  You were reminded of the laughter you had fallen in love with that summer.
“Oh, those boys? They’re big trouble, Y/N. Especially the boy with the white hair. His name is Lee Jeno, and he’s the biggest troublemaker out of all 7 of them, Or was it Zhong Chenle? Either way, don’t go near them. I heard they come from rich families and can basically do whatever they want here.” You fiddled with the necklace around your neck. You hadn’t taken it off since he left, hoping that when he came back and saw it, saw you, he wouldn’t forget. But, he did.
“The cutest and nicest and sweetest out of all of them is Huang Renjun. He’s so adorable and..” her voice trailed off as you wandered deeper into your memories.
Jeno. Lee Je No. The name itself made you feel things you’ve never felt before, all because of that night two years ago. But why was he back in your life now? What did the gods above want? For you to suffer again? For you to feel pain again? You’re over him. ‘He was just a summer fling..’ you reminded yourself.
You pulled away from the window and buried yourself deep in your schoolwork. You still had many assignments to complete and it wasn’t the time for you to be distracted.
---
“Watch out!” You looked up and saw a basketball flying your way. Someone ran in front of you and caught it.
“Thank you.” You looked up. It was Jeno. And his crescent eye smile. You  smiled then walked away as fast as you could.
For the next few days however, it seemed like the gods had planned for Jeno to be your prince charming. Every time you were in trouble, he was always there to save you.
“Yah, I think Lee Jeno has a thing for you. He’s been staring at you since we entered.” you didn’t bother looking up in the boy’s direction as you sat down with your tray of food.
“He’s coming over! Y/N he’s coming over!” Mina hit your arm repeatedly, and you couldn’t eat properly. You gave her a glare and she immediately stopped. You had been skipping mealtimes because of your assignments and she was the one who insisted on having lunch together but also wouldn’t let you eat.
“Hi.” It was Jeno’s voice. You didn’t look up at him and focused on your meal.
“Y/N he’s talking to you.” you nodded then looked up.
“Is there anything you need from me Mr. Lee?” It took you all the courage within you to not run away from him. You had to face him. It was now or never..
“I..” he looked to Mina and she ran off, grinning excitedly as she took Jeno’s seat next to Renjun. They already had everything planned, and your best friend ditched you for a guy. Great.
“What is it?” you had your arms crossed. He looked at you, then looked around. All the attention of the students in the cafeteria were on the both of you.
“If you have nothing to say,” you got up to leave and he did the same. He held your thin wrist tightly but you pulled away from his grip.
“What do you-” he carried you over his shoulder and walked out of the cafeteria. He placed you down in his car and locked the doors.
“Let me out, Jeno. I have no time to be playing games with you.” He sat in the driver’s side.
He reached across you and you slapped his hand away. “Seatbelt.” he reminded you. As soon as you were buckled up, he drove out of school. You didn’t say a word during the ride, and stared out the window blankly. He stopped the car by the beach and got off. You followed him and sat on the beach beside him.
“What do you want?” He turned and pressed his lips against yours. You tried to push him away, but when your arms landed on his firm biceps, you knew you were going to lose. You let him kiss you and when he was done, your lips were swollen. You slapped him.
“You disappeared for two years after that night, and you come back and do nice things and kiss me. Who the fuck do you think I am, Lee Jeno?! Your toy? I thought you died, Jeno. I thought you were gone since you didn’t even give me a call.”
“No, Y/N, I.. Let me explain first.” You waited for him to explain. You at least needed to know why he left you without saying goodbye.
“I didn’t want to drag you into my affairs. That night when I left you alone, I felt so guilty. I wanted to bring you along, I wanted you to be with me but I didn’t want to drag you into my sick and twisted world.” he paused.
“I love you, Y/N. I never stopped loving you. I was just.. scared.” he admitted, “ I was scared I would lose you like I lost my parents that night.” he stared at the waves, and the sky as he told you his side of the story.
“A rival gang was after them, and the goods they were transporting. That night, I received a call and rushed back. I had no time to say goodbye because there were so many things happening all at once and my mind was just.. a mess.” he held his face in his hands and you didn’t know what to do.
At first, you were worried because you thought he had died. And since the day you met him again, you were angry with him, thinking he had left you that night because he found someone else, someone better and totally forgot you. You reached a hand out and pat his back. How lonely had he been all these years? Even though he had the boys with him, was he able to share all his feelings and thoughts with them?
“I’m sorry it took me so long to show myself to you.. I should’ve explained everything and come back to you as soon as I could-” You tapped his shoulder and he looked up. You planted a kiss on his cheek.
“It’s okay, I forgive you. I understand now. It would’ve been better if you explained everything to me, but you must’ve been busy..” he was still in shock and hadn’t recovered from the kiss. His hand traveled up to his cheek and he held it there. His eyes were bright again and his lips broke into a smile that spread from ear to ear.
“Thank you.” he pulled you into his lap and hugged you tight.
“Yah, yah, I just forgave you. I didn’t say anything about hugging me.” You turned. He ignored you and buried his face into the crook of your neck. You could feel his abs and chest muscles through his thin shirt as he pressed your body into his.
“Do you know how long I’ve wanted to do this? How many times I imagined you being in my arms and hugging me. I dreamed of you every night, and now you’re finally right here.”
“Okay loverboy, we need to get back to school. I have a class soon.” he whined and hugged you tighter.
“Tell me the name of your teachers.” he mumbled.
“Why, what are you gonna do? Threaten them to give me prefect attendance or their families would be in danger?”
“N-No..” he waved behind him at the men, telling them to abort the plan.
“Jeno..” you warned him.
“Fine. I won’t threaten anybody. Let’s get back to school..” he got up and helped you up. As he was driving, his fingers drummed against the steering wheel and that’s when you saw the ring on his finger.
“Jeno?” he hummed and turned to you, “What’s this?” you pointed at the finger on his hand.
“Oh..” he took the ring off and gave it to you. Your name was engraved on the ring.
“There were many girls trying to hit on me, but as soon as they saw the ring and your name, they backed off.. Do you have a secret that you’re not telling me?”
“Hmm? What secret?” You gave it back and avoided his gaze.
“I’ll get it out of you sooner or later.” you got off the car and walked towards the cafeteria with your fingers intertwined.
“Wait,” you stopped Jeno, “you have a ring. Where’s mine?”
“Isn’t someone a little too eager to call herself Mrs. Lee?” He gave you a look and you rolled your eyes.
“I want the ring, not your last name.Wait, did you give it to some other girl? Lee Jeno, I swear if I find out you have another girl, I’ll-” he interrupted you with a kiss.
“Silly girl, you’re the only one in my heart.” He let go of you and you walked to Mina. Renjun looked a little uncomfortable with his fangirl by his side, and you dragged her off to get to class.
You sat in your seat and she took her place beside you.
“So, what happened?” you sighed. So much had happened in the past one hour, and you didn’t know what to-
“HE PROPOSED!?” huh? You looked at her then at your hand. On your left ring finger, there was a silver ring with his name engraved on it. How did that get there?
“No, this is..” she squealed, and caught the attention of the other students walking in, one of which was Jeno. He took the seat beside you and held your hand.
“Did you like my present?”

Part 3
EMT: “Vitals and BP are 76/55 a neighbor found her in her yard unresponsive. Unfortunately we could not find a form of identification, the police are working on the warrant to search the residents”
Dr.Lyn: “BP is low for her age. Any ideas why”
EMT: “ we found 3 bottles of alcohol at the residence”
Dr. Lyn: “well 3 bottles of beer could not have done her this much harm?”
EMT: “it wasn’t beer Doctor, it was 3bottles of Stella Rosa”
De. Lyn: “she’s going to need her stomach pumped, but before we continue, get radiology down her to preform an X-Ray to figure out why she can’t breath on her own.”
Nurse 1: Dr. Lyn Detective Mitchell is here to speak to you.
Dr. Lyn: great send him in.
Mitchell: Doctor we have contacted the owner of the residence he is on his way now. I need to speak to the patient when she regains her conscience.
Nurse 2: Dr. Lyn our patient blood pressure is dropping, radiology has confirmed that there vomit in her lungs.
Dr. Lyn: prepare suction tube to get it out of her lungs. Order an ultrasound. Look detective right now we are focusing on keeping her alive. If you could please get her information that would really help.
Nurse 2: Dr. Lyn you need to come see what’s on this ultra sound.
Dr. Lyn: Alright what is it.
Nurse 3: we went to get the vomit out of her lungs but we can’t preform the gastric suction, because we believe her appendix is about to rupture.
Dr. Lyn: let me see, run it over her right mid side. HER APPENDIX HAS RUPTURED WE NEED TO PREP HER FOR THE OR STAT! Let’s get her there now everyone let’s get her going, page Dr. Davis now.
Nurse and doctors rushed to get Emily into the OR. Meanwhile Calum was being held in the waiting room while he got his ID check, and so he can prove to the hospital that he knew who you are.
Mitchell: Calum Hood?
Calum: yes that’s me what is going on?
Mitchell: I’m Detective Mitchell I was called into this case when we found her at the residence. Now I need to ask you a few questions? Starting with her name, where she is from and any other information.
Calum: uhh okay yeah, her name is Emily Blanco, she from Las Vegas, and she is a full time student at UCLA, she on the girls soccer team.
Mitchell: and how do you know her?
Calum: she’s....... she’s my girlfriend, well ex girlfriend. Where is she I want to know I want to see her?
Mitchell: you’ll see her soon but as for right now you need to tell us how you can identify her tell us about her physical features so I and the hospital know that you are who you say she is.
Calum: okay. She has long dark almost black hair but it’s dyed blonde at the ends, She has brown eyes, a nose ring, a red dragon tattoo on her back, she 5’8, and she has a a birthmark on her left thigh.
Mitchell: alright I’m going to go work this information to the nurse and I want you to relax man. I’m going to give you my card if you have any other questions.
Calum: thank you detective.
——————————————————
I was just about to start my day when I got the call saying that there was an incident at my house. I never bothered changing the name to hers because I know she didn’t want to see me. She made that clear when I last saw her. I was going to give it some time before I would try to at lease speak with her. But I found myself not wanting too anymore.
Well now it felt like it was to late. I still don’t even know what happened. The lady I spoke with this morning only told me that they needed to search the house for their investigation, and that Emily was in the hospital and I needed to give out any information I know about her. Then that’s when I came directly here. I know that it’s Emily. But I myself, still have not processed what exactly is going on. I felt like I was in shock. I couldn’t hear anything, or feel anything. I now felt prisoner in my own conscience.
“Hey man is she okay? Have you heard anything yet?” Then my trance was broken. Ashton now appearing in my private waiting room. He didn’t look to well either. He seemed sad, worried, not his usual self. He damn well felt hundred times worse then I did. And that is what made me feel guilty.
“No man, they have not told me anything, I did get interrogated though. They’ve already built a case the house is getting searched right now” I don’t know why I felt this sort of way. I felt like I should not be here. Like I’m not that important. Her family should be here not me. I’m supposed to cry and feel anxious to hear from her, but I don’t. Now that is what made me a bad guy.
Ashton on the other hand was bitting his nails. A habit of his that he only does when he is anxious. Ashton was the first one to meet Emily. She was his roommate for 2 years before her and I got together. Ashton knew her from the inside out. Probably even better then I did. She was like his little sister. They never looked at each other anymore then that. Then when Emily and I started dating Ashton became distant with her. He both told us that he never wanted to get involved with our relationship because he strictly was never going to choose sides if we ever did split.
“Fuck man, I just hope she’s okay, I feel terrible for not checking in on her” he feels terrible about not speaking to her. About leaving her alone when she needed friends the most. About leaving her in the dark while I was out with someone new, all while she was trying her best to keep it alive. And Ashton was the one who felt terrible. I felt terrible for not caring. For feeling selfish and wanting to walk out right now. That how much of a piece of shit I am.
I took the past month of my life and moved on. I moved on so fast that I never let myself grieve over the lost of her love. Time and time again I let her down. She didn’t deserve that. She didn’t deserve a guy who spent his time lying and cheating on her. She didn’t deserve to wasting her time waiting up on me to come home, all while I was out sleeping in some other girls bed. She took care of me while I was sick. She picked me up from airports and parties when I couldn’t drive. She showed my parents the city of LA while I was working. She stayed through all the tours and was patience when we went on months with out seeing one another. She did it all. Just for me to forget about her so quick. I ditched her the moment things got complicated for me.
I wanted to so badly just get up and leave. To never step foot any near a place she was at. I wanted to permanently make myself forget that this ever happened. But if I leave now it would only prove I was the bad guy. I never use to let my ego control me. I never had much of one until I started seeing Haylee.
Haylee Bell, she was the blonde who took up most of my time. Haylee was my escape. I could fake that she needed me. That would be my ticket out of here. Ashton would have to buy it. I could just tell him that she was not feeling well and that I have to go see her. That would get me out of here. The only thing is that if the detectives came to find me here I wouldn’t be here.
“I got to go Ash, Haylee isn’t feeling to well”
“You’re just going to leave Cal? Aren’t you worried?”
“I am Ash. I just need to go handle Haylee first, I got to clear my mind up a bit” it wasn’t a complete lie. I was worried but I just needed to leave. Maybe if I convince myself that everything was fine it would turn out fine. I just needed to see Haylee.
————————————-
“Come on babe, you know you want too? Go to Steven he can get you a score” her sweet words had me at my knees. I needed to relieve my stress and get myself high. To get this weight lifted off my shoulders for just a few hours.
As always Steven met in the back ally by her apartment. It was always a causal deal. I take out the trash and see Steven taking out his. We exchange a quick hug and then we hand off. Nothing more. Then I make it back to Haylee’s.
“Good your back now let’s do this” words like that should excite someone, usually they’re tied to sex. But now for us. Ours excites us more. It’s like a kid opening his Christmas gifts and seeing that he got all that he wanted and more. This is what keeps me alive. Without it I would be down in the dumps. I first started it when I met Haylee. It was at a club on sunset Blvd. It was only two lines. Then as started seeing her more it tired in to three, then four, now five. As the effect starts to fade. That’s when I go in for another round. Nothing can bet the feeling then finally getting to fucking score off on drug.
I don’t love Haylee. But I now only use her as my anchor. I’m tied down here because she she knows the best dealers in LA. She’s a fucking decoy for my one love. I love cocaine.

Day 1
It was just like any other dull morning, minus the fact it was December first. Michael didn't hate Christmas per se, he just never had a good memory of any past Christmases. His childhood was all sorts of fucked up, a family that never really gave a shit about him and who quiet literally threw him out onto the streets. He bounced around from place to place not really staying for long, never fitting in, never belonging anywhere. As he got older, now in his early 20's he's made a name for himself. Sure it wasn't of the best circumstances but how he saw it the world chewed him up and spit him out like he was poison, so he figured why the hell not and became the poison the world thought he was. He wasn't a fast acting "poison", no he was one of those classy poisons. He never bothered to get his hands dirty, he had people to do that for him. He also wasn't a bad person but if someone pressed his buttons the wrong way they had hell to pay. After his rise to power everyone stop looking at him like the freak no one cared about and started trying to be the biggest kiss ass, trying to get on his good side but he saw through their facade.
(Y/N) was a 22 year old sophomore at college who was just barely scrapping by. Her home life growing up wasn't the best but it wasn't the worst either, her dad left when she was in middle school leaving her mom to raise her alone. Her mom had a steady job so money was never really a problem. Once (Y/N) graduated high school her mom gave her two options, either go to school or be kicked out. So weighing her options she opted for school but her mom was no help really, yeah sure she would send a carepackeage every 3 months or so but that was it. Thankfully she got a full ride thanks to her high test results but that only pays for school. She was stuck with paying for her own place and food, which she was barely managing to afford with her 2 jobs.
Her day was going just as shitty as it could be, she was late to class, got chewed out by her professor and on top of everything her mom called and threatened to disown her because she got a B- in one of her classes. She had just made it home from job number one only to realize she didn't have her wallet on her, "Fucking good one (Y/N) that had all your money in it." She said to herself bitterly.
Michael had just walked out of the small coffee shop when his foot kicked something, "What the hell?" He questions looking down to see a wallet. He bent down picking it up and he opens it, inside he finds an ID that told him the owner of said wallet, one (Y/N) (Y/L/N). Also inside the wallet he found only about $100 max along with credit cards and a few business cards. Turning on his heels he heads back inside to ask, "Um excuse me does anyone know (Y/N) (Y/L/N)?" He asks as he leans against the small little counter, it coming to just above the middle of his thighs due to his towering form.
"She works here, how can I help you?" A guy Michael assumes is the manager comes forward wiping his hands on his apron.
"I'm an old friend, and I just got into town I was just wondering if you had her address wanted to drop by and surprise her." Michael say flashing that charming smile he knows works on everyone. Sure enough the manager nods grabbing a napkin and he writes down the girls address.
"Here you go, she's lucky to have a friend like you." He says shaking softly and Michael smirks enjoying how much power he has over anyone he comes into contact with.
"Thank you." Is all he says before dropping his smile and he turns and walks out of the shop.
"You lost your wallet?" Rachael asks (Y/N) as the dinner rush calms down.
"Yeah it fucking sucks it had all the money I had left for the rest of the week." (Y/N) groans cleaning off the plates she had just picked up.
"Do you know where it is?" She asks and (Y/N) shrugs leaning against the counter looking at the clock.
"My other job, or any where between there and home who knows." (Y/N) says taking off her apron getting ready to leave.
"Well I hope you find it." Rachael says and (Y/N) nods collecting her stuff.
"Thanks Rachael." (Y/N) says giving her a hug before heading home.
Michael knew he shouldn't have entered her house, magic or other wise it wasn't right. When he got to her little apartment he was just going to leave her wallet on her door step with a little note but when he got there he just felt the urge to go in. He chocked it up to not wanting to just leave her wallet out for anyone to take, so he took it upon himself to enter and leave it on her coffee table. He was going to leave right after, he really was but once he got a look around her apartment he noticed she was worse off than he first thought. Not really much food in her pantrie or fridge, a small couch and a small tv on the opposite wall. Not really any decor, it was all just so plain. He cursed himself for entering because now he felt the urge, no the need to help this complete stranger. So he did the best he could do for the time being, he found an envelop and put $500 inside with a little note. Then like that he left not leaving a trace anyone was there and on his way out of the building he told the person at the front desk to put the envelop in her mail box.
"Really good job (Y/N) You can't find your wallet anywhere." She says to herself as she enters her building. She pulls out her keys and goes to her mailbox pulling out the stack of envelops and magazines. She sighs turning and making her way up to her apartment. She opens her door and turns on the light and enters before closing the door behind her. She throws the mail on the coffee table and turns to go walk into the kitchen when she stops and turns back towards the table. There she saw it, her wallet sitting perfectly in the center of the table, right where she had thrown the mail. She walks around her couch and she takes a seat picking up the wallet and she opens it, sure enough it was hers. She laughs shaking her head, had it been here all along? She questions in her head as her eyes shift to the mail and she sees an envelop that simple reads "From A Friend." She sets her wallet down and picks up the envelop and she examines it. She notices it's kinda think and heavy but she shrugs as she opens it. She nearly throws it when she sees the money inside, tears form in her eyes as she takes out the little note.
"I know you don't know me yet, but I've noticed you struggling and I felt the need to help. So I've left you $500 dollars hopefully that is enough for now. I have a feeling this won't be the last time you hear from me or the last times our paths cross." It reads and she sees it's signed with two simple letters, M.L and a tear falls from her eyes.
Day 5
"Ms. Mead I have a job for you." Michael says sitting back in his office chair as his adoptive mother stands on the other side of his desk.
"Yes, what is it?" She asks placing her hands behind her back and he smiles up at her.
"I want you to keep a tab on (Y/N) (Y/L/N) and report to me anything you find out about her." Michael says folding his hands into his lap and his pale icy blue eyes shine with wonder.
"Right away." She says but she gives him a questioning look to which he waves her off.
"Thank you Ms. Mead." He calls after her as she closes the door.
"Do you know who this person is?" (Y/B/F) asks as her and (Y/N) relax at her place.
"No idea but he has left small little gifts after that $500." (Y/N) shrugs placing her drink on the coffee table.
"It sounds like you have a rich, powerful secret admirer." (Y/B/F) teases causing (Y/N) to blush.
"Oh as if." (Y/N) fires back slapping (Y/B/N)'s shoulder.
"So any news?" Michael asks later that night as he gets ready to leave.
"Her favorite color is (Y/F/C) and her favorite flower is a (Y/F/F)." Ms. Mead says and a smiles finds its way on to Michael's lips.
"Perfect." He whispers to himself, grabbing his jacket and he leaves making a beeline for the nearest flower stand.
"How can I help you tonight sir?" The lady at the stand says and he can see her check him out. He scoffs giving her a once over before waving her off.
"I would like a bouquet of 12 (Y/F/C) (Y/F/F) for my girlfriend." Michael says stressing the word girlfriend. It seems to do the trick considering she looked down disgusted.
"That will be $10." She says handing him the flowers and he smiles handing her the money.
"Thank you." He says very curtly before he walks away.
Michael makes it to (Y/N)'s apartment and a small smile pulls at the corners of his lips as he sets the flowers on the door step and knocks on the door before turning and walking away. He sees her open the door and then he sees the biggest smile appear on her face as she picks up the flowers. "There's my beautiful girl." He whispers to himself softly before turning and walking back to his car.
"Was it him?" (Y/B/F) asks from the couch and (Y/N) nods closing the door.
"Yeah it was." She says a smile plastered to her face.
"You're so hopelessly in love with him and you don't even know what he looks like." (Y/B/F) says and (Y/N) rolls her eyes.
"No I'm not." Is all she says setting the flowers on the table as she gets a vase and puts water in it before placing the flowers in it. Little did she know was she was destined to meet her secret admirer and little did she know she will fall so helplessly in love with him and he her.

Current Episode: The Retract
You know... The older you get, the more you value your alone time. Or just time in general. I remember a much younger me, going out to party pretty much all weekend. Drinking copious amounts of booze, looking for a crush that same night. This weekend I spent alone, entirely getting high and sleeping, resting for the week ahead. Adulting man...it’s weird. I bet a bunch of you, much like me, would go back to their younger selves and say, “Don’t ever say, ‘I can’t wait to grow up’“. I made this blog as a venture to express myself to complete strangers. None of my family or friends know about this and I kinda wanna keep it that way. There’s no right way into living life. Infact, the only way to learn life is to make mistakes and learn from that or others. We get older and compare ourselves to others, mainly our parents or friends. I now find that less is more. Less people around me equals more happiness. With life, the more you think you know, the less you’ll understand. Keep that in mind. Right now I’m going through a weird moment in life. I’ve cut all my friends out; they are just one giant disappointment after another. In fairness, a combination of life issues, plus their cock ups have created a giant snowball effect which I’ve decided to avoid by becoming a recluse. At times I catch myself thinking about suicide, but a few things are stopping me from actually doing it. One: I’m too good looking to kill myself. I mean, I think i’m good looking and I’ve never had an issue with women or sexual confidence. Two: who’s really gunna take care of my cat if I die? Like I’m thinking about that now and kinda peeved if someone gets my cat and doesnt take care of her. Three: I’m not a God fearing man, but being raised Catholic to some degree has taught me that suicide and renouncing God are the only two ways into Hell. I don’t really wanna take that chance nor have my last living action condemn me for the afterlife I’d be so fast to head to. Damn mythology from the Church! Curse you! I guess I’ll lay it out there for you. My government is suing me for unpaid student loans. Nothing crazy. Something like 12k, but it’s gotten to small claims court and lawyers and well....this is a first experience for me. If you don’t know, I do not do well with first experiences. There’s a learning curve and a coping issue when it comes to first experiences. While my recovery time has greatly increased since I was in my twenties, it still takes a few days for me to see the larger picture of things and regain a level head. To each their own. At work, I was dealing with becoming a fresh new leader among the new and old set of crews. Another first experience, which I managed to flub, atleast I feel that I flubbed it up. There was a moment when I called out three co workers for their lack of ...well...work ethic. You’ll have seen it or been through it. You’re working and you’re working hard. Just grinding, but others are kinda lolly-gagging and gingerly moving when you need post-haste movement. Sure it was the first show; Sure I made the inappropriate call over the radio for a meeting. I had to express myself to these guys that whatever it was that they were doing that day, was complete garbage. I alienated them and myself. Coulda chosen a better way to approach it really. That same night, pretty much broke down in front of my boss. Humiliating in retrospect, but the build up of things got to me. The fact that my landlord refuses to fix a wall in my place, so when it rains heavy, mushrooms grow outta the baseboards. MUSHROOMS! INSIDE! How the fuck... it’s only been six months since I reported the first of three incidents. Who know’s what’s behind and under those walls and floors. Who knows what spores i’ve been breathing in. Then I get to work and I’m put in this situation where I have more responsibility and I’m being relied on to do more and lead a motley crew. These guys and I came up together and now symbolically, I’m above them but they just aren’t taking the things I take serious, serious themselves. You know how frustrating that is?! When you need to get the job done and they are like, “Yeah, okay hummm”. Main problem of that stemmed from the fact that some new guy, a real new aged stoner complainer type, created a stir with me over absolutely nothing. I’m trying to help this fool and he snaps at me, goes behind my back and tells my boss i’m bullying him?! The man is 40 something and at best, a pan sexual imp. If he can’t handle direction or control his sensitive side, then I suggest he apply to Wal-mart to become a greeter. The guy legit goes out of his way (and brags about it) to sue people or corporations where he can. That should tell you what type of character he is. He was the first one I cut out this year. I’ll let him be someone elses problem. As for the other co-workers I disciplined with that meeting, we seem to be on better terms, but realistically since they won’t know, or understand my responsibilities going into this new season, I’ve quietly backed away and kept my own counsel towards things and people.  Oh my phone screen broke at work. Managed to go several phones without having that issue and boom; it happened. My boss said he could fix it, if I got the spare parts. I did! Then he lost my phone! Can you believe that?! Lost my broken phone... He claims he found it and fixed it, but that was day’s ago... Funny how when you’re phone goes MIA, life turns upside down. In my case, it took a while. I deleted all my social media weeks ago. That’s means I was using my phone as an actual phone. Also tells you how pissed off I was with people and the world. One disappointment after another. I figured I needed to recharge my batteries and focus on myself again. Of course the sudden deletion of social media prompted others to bother me on the daily if I was, “okay”. Unbeknownst to them, each time someone asked me if I was, “okay”, I felt more and more uneasy. I really questioned there for a good solid moment how much I had left in the tank. So a broken screen on a phone wasn’t a bad thing. My boss losing my phone after having it for two days...kinda irked me. But what irks me more is that I believe he fixed it and hasn’t give it back to me. I say that because I went into the office and saw my phone charging. Atleast I think it was my phone. It has no sim card in it, so when I touched the home button, and saw it had no sim card, but a fresh new screen, I began to think.... “Why? Why hasn’t this been given to me?!” Esp after the intense, painstakingly slow process it took to back up my old phone to new software and the back up. The process of removing apps and pictures and songs to acquire the capacity space needed for the restore. The endly prompts telling me the restore didn’t work, to log in for this or that ID. Like fuck! A good solid two hours of my life, gone! Reading about how to fix iTunes and error codes, just to load information onto my burner phone, when I likely have a perfectly good phone, not being used or given to me?! HELP!!! As you can imagine, when I got served my papers, I had to rethink and redo all my budget. The end result was losing a lot of savings money to off set a credit card. Fine, I did it, it’s outta the way and done for. I’m thankful for that, but a lack of money has always made me...moody. Without money, you can’t pay for rent or food or anything! Money is freedom and you understand it better as you get older. Add all the issues I just stated above and you get a fuck storm. So to recap: -Got sued -expunged most of my money -Strained workplace relationships -People & friends letting me down consistenly -Broke phone -Boss lost phone trying to fix it -Several mistakes made which I was hard on myself and that’s been how it’s going of late. I’m dealing with it better; having no social media actually helps. But for fucks sakes, I use the whole being sued thing just floats on. They are not disputing my payment plan and want me to pay more. Like fucking blood suckers. I know happiness is a choice. I know tough times don’t last, tough people, But all I want to do right now is disappear....

Fic Request: Sam’s First Month at Stanford
Word count: 6,662 Pairing: Sam x Brady Warnings: Mention of child abuse, Homophobic language
Author’s Note: This was written to be set within The Uncomfortable Adventures of Sam in Law School AU, but it’s also intended to stand on its own just fine.
Hope you enjoy it :)
It’d taken him four days of hitchhiking, hustling pool, and bus rides to get to California.  The journey had been slower than normal because he’d tried to avoid illicit shortcuts like pickpocketing people for funds or the like.  He’d gone so far as to take a can of lighter fluid with him when he left, then had a bonfire of his fake IDs and credit cards.  From then on he was gonna live legitimately.  He might not have much money, but he’d come by it through legal, mundane means.
Sam walked through the hallway of his dormitory looking for his room.  Clutching his duffel bag to his side, he suddenly felt self-conscious.  Everyone else seemed to have multiple suitcases or cardboard moving boxes, meanwhile everything he owned was contained in the bag he was holding.  Many of the students had their parents with them to help out and share the momentous event.  Seeing one dad help carry his son’s boxes up a flight of stairs, Sam was struck painfully by his own lack of support.
Telling his family that he was leaving had been the hardest thing he’d ever done.  His dad had yelled at him and called him a coward—said it would be his fault if anything happened to them because they wouldn’t have enough backup.  How could he be so selfish?  He’d never amount to anything as a civilian, so why even bother wasting his and everyone else’s time.
When he’d attempted to pick up his duffel bag, John had pulled it from him, then thrown the bag across the room.  For a moment Sam had braced himself for a physical fight.  His dad had even been armed, but didn’t bother drawing the knife from the sheath on his belt.  Sam hadn’t looked at Dean, who had silently watched everything from the far wall.  Sam tried to ignore them both as he quickly collected his duffel bag from the ground, then walked out the door to his dad shouting for him to never come back.
Despite knowing that he’d done the right thing, he still cried several times a day.  He’d called Dean’s cell phone twice, though both times he was sent to voicemail.  It hadn’t been his intention to completely sever ties with his family.  He’d figured that was a risk, but it had never been something he wanted.  Distance and the freedom to figure himself out had been his dream, for as long as he could remember.  He was finally getting the chance, though the reality of his situation wasn’t nearly what he’d dreamt of as a kid.  In reality decades of trauma and unhealthy relationships had a way of coloring even a fresh start in the form of a free ride at a top-tier university.
When he discovered that his dorm room wasn’t shared with another student, he decided to call it an early night thanks to his emotional exhaustion and lack of boxes to unpack.  He slipped his protection charm into the bottom of his pillowcase, then knelt beside the bed to pray.  His upbringing had been a strange mixture of nondescript Christian and traditional Anglo-Greco hunter.  He’d pray to Artemis more often than he’d pray to God, but the Great Huntress almost exclusively received canned piety.  When he really needed a little customized help he turned to God—though in that moment he felt like an apology was in order.
He withdrew a knife from his duffel, placed it on the top of the mattress directly in front of him, then rested his right hand on top of it.  The rite called for touching his favorite weapon, but he hadn’t been able to take his bow from the Impala before he’d left.  The knife was the only weapon he still had, so it would have to do.  At least he tried.  His dad never prayed before bed and on the rare occasion that Dean did the rite it was never done justice.
“I’m not sure if you can hear me anymore.”  He wasn’t sure if she ever had been able to.  “I’m sorry, but I couldn’t do it.  I couldn’t stay in your service.  I need to find my place, wherever that is.  From now on, that’s my hunt, my pursuit.  I hope you can forgive me.”
He wished someone would forgive him, that someone would tell him it was alright.  In his heart he felt like he’d made the right choice, but doubt whispered that he’d never be able to have the life of a civilian.  He pushed the unsettling thought aside, then continued to the standard prayer.
“Please give me strength and patience.  Give me the will to endure my trials and the mind to overcome them.  Protect me…”  He pursed his lips in hesitation. “...and my family.”  Before finishing, he added, “Please watch over me even when I’m lost… even when I don’t speak your name.  Please... remember me.”
Lying in bed, he stared up at the ceiling.  He would be waking up to stare at that same ceiling every morning for at least the next eight months.  The thought made him strangely frightened.  It was so long.  He’d never been anywhere that long.  What if he couldn’t do it?  Maybe he was trapped by his upbringing?  He’d never heard of any cradle-to-the-grave hunters retiring.  In that moment it wouldn’t have surprised him to find out that people like him couldn’t cut civilian life.
He got up from the bed, took his desk chair, and wedged it under the doorknob to secure the door.  Then he moved his pillow and a blanket onto the floor in the corner, so that he could see both the door and the window.  He curled up with his knife by his pillow, ready to grab in an emergency.  His first night on campus, he fell asleep on the floor, crying into his pillow.  It took him three nights before he tried sleeping in the bed.
Adjusting to his new life was harder than he’d anticipated.  He knew it’d be emotionally difficult, that being apart from his family and the hunter lifestyle for the first time would be difficult on top of all the assorted trauma he wasn’t yet prepared to look at head-on.  But he hadn’t foreseen several other challenges.  Thanks to having spent his childhood living on the road, traveling from hunt to hunt, he had certain disadvantages—socially and financially, many of which hadn’t even occurred to him as issues.
Social anxiety hadn’t really been on his radar as a problem that he might have.  For years he’d been used to putting on a false smile and playing various roles in order to help with witnesses on a hunt, or maybe just to work a hustle.  He could be charismatic when it came right down to it, but there had been a sort of comfort in knowing it was all fake and insulated from his actual life.  But now he wasn’t playing a part; this was his life.  He felt suddenly exposed and vulnerable to others’ judgment in a way that he’d only ever felt at hunter gatherings.
The first morning at the dormitory he decided to take a shower.  He hadn’t bathed since leaving his family and was in desperate need of self-care.  His skin felt oily even if it didn’t look too bad and no matter how many times he’d washed his hands he still had a sneaking suspicion that there was dried blood somewhere on him, even if no longer under his nails.
He walked to the co-ed bathroom with a towel that he’d stolen from a motel room.  He was wearing full-length pants and his hoodie.  A few people glanced at him in his state of ample dress while he waited for a free shower stall.  Everyone else was wearing minimal pajamas, shorts, swimsuits, or maybe even just a strategically wrapped towel.  Some students whispered to each other, though he couldn’t tell if it was his imagination that they were talking about him.
The fact of the matter was that he didn’t want anyone to see him with his shirt off.  Large bruises covered his shoulder, torso, and upper legs.  Worse, there were still two dozen stitches holding him together below his left arm.  He had no good explanation for them and dreaded the thought of what gossip might grow out of it being seen.  Slipping fully dressed into the shower stall, he pulled the curtain, took off his clothes, and examined the injuries.  With a little luck they’d be the last scars to mark his body.
After hanging up his clothes as best he could so they wouldn’t get wet, he began washing himself.  He could hear a man in a neighboring shower singing classic Motown.  He’d never heard someone singing in the shower before—he couldn’t even remember hearing someone singing in person at all.  As unusual as it was, it was kind of charming to know that somebody was comfortable and happy.  He let the warm water pour over him, washing away as much of the unpleasantness of his past as it could.  For a moment it was deeply soothing… until his pants fell off their hook and were soaked.  He picked up the soggy jeans, then checked his injuries again and wondered how much longer he’d need to keep covering up on the way to and from the shower.
The fourth day brought with it Sam’s first public embarrassment of his college career and the subsequent breakdown.  He’d been in the student union buying some lunch when another student had accidentally bumped into him.  The recently-buffed floor and sudden impact caused them both to slip and fall down, spilling Sam’s plate of food and costing him a precious, scholarship-sponsored meal.  The scene drew the attention of a few dozen bystanders.  The sudden motion had torn one of his stitches, causing Sam to clutch his side.  Two people went to help him up, but the combined pain and embarrassment triggered his memories from his youth, inducing an anxiety attack.  So when they grabbed him to help him up, he panicked.
Their hands on him reminded him of the way his dad used to grab him and shove him around.  Just a few days before leaving, he’d been slammed into a wall while being yelled at for taking so long to finish off the last werewolf they’d been fighting.  The impact had made the fresh slashing wound on his side sting and dribble blood.  Their dad had instructed Dean not to help suture the injury—Sam would have to deal with the consequences of his poor performance and could stitch himself up in front of the bathroom mirror.  It’d taken an hour and all the willpower he had to get through all twenty-four stitches before he drank himself numb.
Sam pulled away from the students and their bizarre attempt to help him.  He scrambled across the floor, then ran out of the student union clutching his ribs.  When he got back to his room, he locked the door and propped the chair against it before sitting on the floor in the corner.  There was a little blood on his shirt… one of only six that he owned.  He took it off to examine the damage.  The injury hadn’t opened up too much and he wasn’t sure how to even do anything about it without a first aid kit.  So he settled for stealing an unopened box of tissues and a roll of duct tape from his floor’s janitorial closet and just cleaning up the mess until it stopped bleeding.  After forty-five minutes, when the bleeding had essentially stopped, he covered the wound with tissues, then applied some duct tape to act as a bandage.  From then on, he’d take it easy.  He’d avoid people touching him.
On the fifth day he was running low on clean clothes.  He decided to finally bite the bullet and go do some laundry.  With so little in the way of clothing, he was able to stuff it all in his duffel and carry it down to the dormitory lounge.  He found the RA playing on her laptop at a desk and approached her.
Once he’d caught her attention, he asked, “Do you know where the nearest laundromat is?”
“The laundry room is in the basement.”  The RA stared at the clear plastic baggie of quarters he was holding, then looked up at him with a raised eyebrow.  “You… uh, you know you don’t need to pay to wash clothes, right?”
Sam could feel his ears turning pink with embarrassment, but he didn’t want to admit that he’d never had access to such services for free outside of when he’d stayed at Bobby’s.  “Yeah, I was gonna get a soda.”
She gave a little shrug at the explanation, then went back to her game.  After a little searching he found the laundry room.  It even had a supply rack full of detergents and cleaning products that were completely unattended.  He started his single load before sitting down by the machine.  About ten minutes later, several students entered and complained to each other about having to do their own laundry.  It was hard for Sam to imagine who else might have previously done their laundry, if not them.  When they were done starting their machines, they left.
For a moment he furrowed his brow at the reckless abandonment of their clothes, then he realized that people there weren’t worried about someone stealing their stuff.  He was at an expensive private university.  Most of the students were probably well off.  If their clothes had ever been stolen at a laundromat, they’d probably just bought new ones—Hell, most of the students probably had had homes with washers and dryers in them.  He considered leaving his clothes to go do something else, just like any other student might do… but he wasn’t quite prepared to risk it yet.  Maybe someday.
The stark financial contrast had struck again the next day while he was shopping for class supplies.  When he’d arrived on campus he’d had $512.75 in cash on him.  That amount was intended to last until he could find a part-time job, though he’d given himself permission to play a little pool if he really needed the additional funds in the meantime.  Unfortunately, he’d overestimated both the number of pool halls in the area and the amount of free time that would be available.  At that point his current savings were only $485.96, which had seemed like a lot… until he went to buy his course materials.
Sam stared at the $320 textbook.  It was over one thousand pages of pristinely curated knowledge complete with twenty detailed flowcharts and a fifty-page bibliography.  Unfortunately, its most prominent feature in his mind was the fact that it, along with the rest of his course materials, wasn’t covered by any of the handful of scholarships he’d cobbled together.  He flipped through the pages to see how densely written the text was in an attempt to guess how long the reading assignments might be.  About two-thirds of the way through the book was the security sensor.  An old reflex reminded him that he could easily slip the sensor out of the book, then steal it.  But he wasn’t that kind of person anymore—he’d always hated being that kind of person and he wouldn’t return to that sort of life.
“Excuse me,” he said to get the attention of a nearby employee.  “Is there some way to set up a payment plan or something?”
“Sorry, we don’t do that sort of thing.”
“How much are all of the required books together?” Sam asked as he handed over his course list, then followed her to one of the register computers.
“It looks like…”  The employee chewed her lip while totaling it up.  “$1,076.32 with tax.”
He stared at her, completely dumbfounded for a few seconds.  Those were just the necessary books and it was more than twice the amount of money that he had.  He could hurry and try to find a few less-savory ways of make some money, but even at his best that much would be hard to scrounge up over any less than a few days or a week.  He’d hoped to have his books in time for the first days of classes, which began in only two days.  Not to mention, he needed to buy other supplies like pens and binders, since he didn’t own a laptop.
“How… how long do I have to buy them?” he asked, voice tinged with disappointment.  “I mean, if it takes me some time to get… things together—how long are you gonna keep them in stock?”
The bookstore employee’s eyes took in the handsewn  patching on the elbow of his hoodie, which he anxiously tried to cover.  She gestured for him to come a little closer, then leaned forward so that she could speak to him in a voice that was soft enough so that no one else would hear.
“Talk to your professors and ask them if older versions of the textbooks will work.  The library should have a few copies of older textbooks or you can try to buy them off past students.  Check the bulletin boards,” she suggested.  “If you really do need the latest version, we should have them for another week.  And talk to financial aid.  They might partially cover the books if you really need the help.”
He nodded at her words and his voice broke slightly when he eventually managed to say, “Thank you.”
When his medical insurance through the school became effective, he decided to finally take advantage of those services.  He’d of course been to a hospital before, but as far as he could remember it’d only been for a few trips to the emergency room when his or Dean’s injuries had been too severe for their dad to mend himself.  Though, they’d never left the ER in a typical fashion, instead having to sneak out before Child Protective Services were called or the bill was delivered.  Despite having more legitimacy through the presence of coverage, he still opted to go to the dentist first as his small step into civilian wellness.
The receptionist at the dentist’s office handed him a clipboard full of intake forms, then gestured for him to take a seat in the waiting area.  Only a minute after sitting down and starting the paperwork, he got up to ask her a clarifying question.  He’d never had insurance before and didn’t want to mess anything up.  Before fully returning to his seat, he spotted another unclear instruction and turned back to her.  He ended up just standing at the counter while filling out the intake paperwork with her help.
He felt profoundly embarrassed.  There he was having his hand held through basic medical forms while going to college for pre-law.  A few pieces of paper should’ve been the least of his problems.  But he was an outsider trying to navigate a new system.  He tried to remind himself that he was a quick learner, and that the only way to learn was to tackle the unknown... even when it was disheartening.
At some point he’d make an appointment to see a doctor, but first he wanted to remove the remaining stitches from his side.  He didn’t know how to explain away such an obviously unprofessional attempt at treating a noteworthy injury.  Technically he was eighteen and was free to make those sorts of poor decisions, but quite a few recent scars hinted at damage done while he was still a minor under his dad’s care.  He had no idea if John could get in trouble for it at that point, but he didn’t intend on testing his dad’s limits.
When the examination was done, Sam was informed that he had numerous cavities from a lifetime without trips to the dentist and that his teeth were severely damaged from grinding while he’d slept.  The dentist suggested that it might be related to stress and that the damage had probably been done over the course of several years.  Repairing the damage would take multiple visits that would inevitably have to be spread out so that he could manage the $50 per visit copay.  In addition to that, at night he would have to wear a mouthguard to prevent the grinding until his anxiety improved.  He would also need to use a retainer at night for several months or years in order to correct the alignment problems that had resulted from never having braces as a child.
That night before bed he popped in his temporary mouth guard.  He felt a bit silly about the fact that he’d soon be wearing a retainer, which was the sort of equipment he’d previously associated with kids.  But he was having to go through many of the basics that well-off civilians took for granted and got out of the way in their youth.  Eventually, he’d have to go easier on himself.  All journeys had beginnings; it was okay for him to start there.
Classes started a week after he’d arrived.  Finding a new routine was profoundly welcome.  The predictability was something he could finally rely on and it was a distraction from his fears.  He’d always loved school as something to consume his mind— something other than worries about monsters or memories of his dad’s hurtful words.  School had been the place where he’d had his best chance at being himself.  He’d even had his first kiss with a boy at school when he was in seventh grade.
In many ways college was different than he’d expected, in some ways for the better and others for the worse.  To his delight he could generally set his own challenge level through switching to harder classes, taking on a larger course load, or by doing extracurricular activities—granted he hadn’t attempted to join any clubs or the like.  The prospect of being surrounded by civilians that were his own age and working in close proximity to them was still a bit intimidating.  He’d always been a bit socially awkward at school, not catching all of the pop culture references and being uncertain how to relate to other kids' mundane troubles.
On the plus side, it seemed that in college generally other students were happy to leave him alone.  Despite the loneliness that gently nibbled at him through the days, and gnawed more prominently when he lay in bed with insomnia at night, he was grateful to be left alone.  He wasn’t sure how to make friends; he’d barely ever had a real one.  The change from hunter life to student life had been too recent and traumatic for him to even begin analyzing how to make friends.  After a few weeks, when his nerves were a bit better, maybe he’d observe some of his classmates during the seminars and see if he could find someone who might share some sort of common ground with him.  Then he could figure out a few topics to discuss and an introduction.  From there he’d have to wing it, but with his experience charming witnesses as someone else, surely he could figure out a way to be somewhat likeable as himself.
In the meantime, he was too vulnerable to risk more than a sentence or two of social interaction.  He could feel his undiagnosed anxiety manifesting in his trembling hands, pounding heart, and the painfully long, sleepless nights.  There was this terrible feeling that something was wrong and waiting to spring upon him—it was like he was perpetually caught in the moment just after entering a haunted building and hearing the door close behind him.  His senses were strained, searching for signs of danger, and he was ready to run or fight.  On his sixth day of classes, the extent of his fear had hit him hard.
He’d stayed in the library to do all of his homework until close to midnight, but his sleep-deprived mind wasn’t thinking clearly enough to make any progress worthwhile.  When he was walking back to his dormitory he could hear sudden movement behind him.  The slinking, scratching sound reminded him of something—undoubtedly a hunt.  His mind started racing, trying to identify the sound, whatever was stalking him.  He reached into his bag and clutched his knife, but before he could turn around he heard snickering.  The noise had been a couple making out against a wall and only of their shoes had slid on some gravel.
For a moment his fear had gotten the better of him and he’d nearly pulled a weapon.  He wasn’t chasing monsters anymore, and they shouldn’t be chasing him.  The odds of him running into anything was so small that it was more dangerous for him to be armed than not, especially while he was struggling with his past trauma.  When he got back to his room, he put his knife away in his nightstand.  As much as he felt naked without it, he wouldn’t carry it around with him anymore.
He wasn’t sure what he was supposed to do to deal with his fear.  What did civilians do with their fear?  They didn’t have it as much—at least some of them.  He supposed some of the civilians could just call the police and rely on that to protect them.  Regardless of the fact that he was a white man, he’d never really felt like he’d had access to the protection of police before.  Even at school he’d always been armed, which could’ve easily gotten him into serious trouble.  When he was out on a hunt, he was almost always breaking at least a handful of laws.  And even just being at a motel was problematic considering the illicit goods his family kept.   He’d always been in incriminating circumstances.  His dad had raised him to be wary of the police because if he wasn’t conning them like a top hunter, then they would catch him and either arrest or kill him.  Law enforcement couldn’t help him with his problems; growing up he’d known that.  Whether that was still true or not, he felt it.
“You’re a civilian now,” Sam whispered to himself.  “You’re in their system….  You’re in the system.”
A week later, Sam was sitting against the base of a tree, enjoying its shade and reading.  The temperate weather was such a welcome change from any number of other places where he’d spent his Augusts, baking in the unbearable heat.  He’d taken to studying outdoors whenever possible, outside of his claustrophobic dorm room and near the cheerful voices of follow students—near, but never close enough or in a posture that might invite interaction… or so he’d thought.
“Hey, big guy,” someone called in his direction, making Sam look up.  A group of four large, male students were approaching him.  Three of them were dressed in vaguely athletic clothes prominently featuring the Stanford logo.  Aside from their overall aesthetic, the way they carried themselves and their overly confident demeanor screamed ‘jock,’ which wasn't inherently a problem….  Though he did feel some heartburn coming on.  “You new here?”
“Yeah,” he replied, unsure of what they wanted.  For whatever reason, the sight of them made him painfully aware that he was unarmed.  It was probably the fact that he was sitting on the ground and they’d, intentionally or not, positioned themselves to be standing over him, surrounding him with his back against a tree.  He tried to take a calming breath or two, but they weren’t really helping and it just made him worry that they would spot his fear.
“We’re holding tryouts for the football team.”  One of them pitched the idea.  “You should swing by.”
“Thanks, but I’m not interested,” Sam replied with an attempt at a polite smile.  He looked back down at his book, but they didn’t leave.
“Have you ever played?” asked another one.
“A little, back in high school—“  It had just been for a few weeks during a physical education class, but the group didn’t give him a chance to finish his explanation.
“Come on.  Just try out.”
“I don’t want to,” Sam said more firmly than before.  “I have to focus on my classes.”
“We all take classes and play.  You can do both.”
“Listen, I’m just not interested.”
“You’re new, so maybe you don’t get what being on the team would mean for you.”  One of them grinned in an unsavory way, then boasted, “You have no idea how much pussy you can get—“
“I don’t care about….”  He couldn’t bring himself to talk about chasing pussy no matter how much using their vernacular might’ve helped him.  “I’m not interested in chasing women.”
He’d meant it in a more general way, expressing his disinterest in pursuing any sort of social excitement, but he realized that his words had missed the mark.  The four men all shifted uncomfortably, probably torn between their prior attempt to woo him and the thought that he might be attracted to them.  In a particularly unwelcome moment, they all seemed to realize that their positioning had left Sam’s head at roughly the same level as their crotches.  The players took a half-step away from Sam, and took stances that bordered on defensive or hostile—almost as if he’d somehow entrapped them rather than them encircling him.
“Fag,” muttered one of the jocks.
Sam’s heart was pounding.  He wasn’t sure what to do.  There hadn’t been anything inherently queer about his statement, but being incidentally outed was still being outed.  Though he wasn’t sure whether the slur had been more hyperbole and his visible embarrassment would be the thing that really gave him away.  He was trying to compose himself, to recover enough to respond or even just to gather up his things and flee—though he wasn’t sure what he’d do if they started following him.  In theory he could take them in a fight, but that might’ve been the last thing he wanted to do.  He wasn’t sure if he was willing to take a beating in order to pretend to be a civilian.
“Hey, assholes!” shouted a blonde guy standing a few yards away.  “He said no, so leave him alone.  What are you, three-year olds or rapists?”
Being called rapists made the football players suddenly recoil even more.  There were enough scandals about college sports players committing sexual assault in the news that hurling that accusation had been a direct and effective hit.  The four guys all retreated from the tense situation to find someone else to solicit.
Sam realized he must’ve been visibly shaken by the encounter when his rescuer slowly approached him and asked, “Are you okay?”
“Yeah.  Thank you.”
Sam rubbed his face and ran his fingers through his hair as he tried to shake off as much of the adrenaline as he could.  Unfortunately, now that he could see the blonde guy better, his heart was pounding for a whole new reason.  He was beautiful, with a lean build, messy hair, and intensely light blue eyes.  His clothes were fit jeans and a t-shirt that somehow managed to be a flattering cut.  But despite the casual clothing, his watch and leather laptop bag hinted that he was at least somewhat well-off financially.  Sam hastily got to his feet so that he wasn’t staring up at the guy… or impulsively checking out his crotch.
“Sorry about those guys.”  The rescuer held out his hand to Sam, which he accepted in a quick shake.  “I’m Brady.”
“Sam,” he replied, thankfully minus any nervous squeak to his voice.  “Do you know them?”
“Those goons hassled me yesterday.  Well, I’m not as big as you, so they weren’t nearly as aggressive.”  Brady smiled.  “What are you, 6’3”?”
“A bit over 6’4” last time I checked.”
“Wow, I bet you’re popular with the ladies.”
Sam made a non-commital noise.  Historically he hadn’t flirted with women much, except in front of his family when it seemed necessary to meet expectations.  It’s not that he didn’t find women attractive; he just liked men more and had more experience with them.
Back before Stanford, he’d sneak off to gay bars whenever he was in a large enough city.  There he could relax without fear of his family finding him and that feeling of freedom had led to a lot of experimentation that had been almost entirely with men.  Upon arriving in the San Francisco Bay Area, he’d searched online for gay bars and was surprised to find that there were many more than he’d seen elsewhere in the country.  There was even a significantly LGBTA+ community in a neighborhood in San Francisco called the Castro.  Someday he’d have to work up the nerve to visit.
“Well, maybe you’re just popular all around,” Brady amended after seeing Sam’s hesitation.
“Not quite….  I’m new around here, and uh,”  Sam chewed his lip a bit, unsure whether to say anymore.  “I’m not exactly good at talking with people.”
“So far you don’t seem to be doing too bad.  Maybe you just need a little practice?”  When he didn’t immediately decline the invitation, Brady picked up Sam’s book and backpack from the ground, then handed it to him.  “Today is too important for you to be spending it studying.”
“What’s so special about today?” Sam asked, unsure of what major event he’d forgotten.
“It’s the day we met.”
They strolled around campus for almost three hours, then walked the short ways to downtown Palo Alto for a few more hours of aimless wandering.  Brady was probably the most charming person he’d ever met.  That was the only explanation for how they could’ve talked so long.  Sam had barely spoken to anyone for more than fifteen minutes at a time, but hours—he never would’ve imagined something like that.  Brady was also a freshman, focusing on chemical biology and pre-med, but he seemed to know everything about anything.  And he made jokes.
Sam didn’t know anyone who had that sort of lightheartedness.  The entire feel of their interaction was different than what hed previously known.  There was such an ease to the whole thing, that when Brady hooked Sam’s arm in order to redirect them, the surprise contact hadn’t triggered any unpleasant memories or a mild panic attack.
“Come on, I know this great Thai place just down the street,” Brady explained as he pointed in the new direction of travel.
Sam stopped walking, slipping his limb free from Brady.  He couldn’t go out to dinner; he didn’t have enough money for that kind of indulgence.  His scholarship included an on-campus meal plan and that was what he had to live off of until he could find some source of income.  He was ashamed of his circumstances and didn’t want to let the lovely day end so soon, but he couldn’t just walk into a restaurant knowing that he couldn’t pay for his meal.
“I shouldn’t….”  He anxiously pulled away from Brady and held his arms to himself while avoiding looking his guide in the eyes.  “I mean, I can’t….”
“I’m driving you crazy, aren’t I?” Brady guessed.
“No, you’re not—anything but that.”  Sam gave him a reassuring smile.  “I mean, I’d like to go get dinner with you.  It’s just I haven’t gotten a job yet and with books and everything....”
Brady just stared at him for a second, processing the fact that his invitation was being declined over finances.  Sam could feel himself turning pink.
“It’s my treat,” Brady offered, then added after seeing Sam’s discomfort at the act of charity, “You can pay me some other time—we’ll figure something out.  Anyway, I don’t have anything else to do.  You’re really doing me a favor by keeping me company.”
“You seem like the kind of guy that doesn’t have a problem making friends,” Sam observed.
“I have high standards.”
“Then are you sure you want to have dinner with me?”
“Without a doubt.”
Sam continued blushing for reasons completely unrelated to embarrassment.  His mouth curled reflexively into a smile and he had to look at a ground for a moment.  He bashfully tried to redirect Brady’s attention away from his physical tells.
“I’ve never had Thai food.”
Brady’s bright blue eyes lit up.  “Well, now I need to take you to dinner.  Not knowing what pad thai is is just criminal.”
It was the best meal he could remember having.  Not only was the food delicious, the company continued to be enchanting.  At one point while they were chatting over dessert, their feet touched under the table and Brady’s fingertips delicately traced the rim of his wine glass.  The moment made Sam’s stomach knot in a strange new way that he enjoyed.
After dinner, they walked back to Sam’s dormitory, stopping in the hall, just outside of his room.  Brady moved a little closer, testing whether he would pull back or if there were any mixed signals.  Sam felt a bit faint at the realization that that incredible guy in front of him might’ve been posturing for a kiss.  Brady candidly glanced down at Sam’s lips, then smiled slightly.  Sam titled his head and leaned in a little, ready to convert the maneuver into a stretch if he’d accidentally misread the situation.  But Brady took a half-step forward and kissed him.
Sam had never kissed another man so publicly before.  It was mildly terrifying, yet more than that it was thrilling.  He didn’t have to be scared of having his family find out, and despite the awkward interaction with the football players, the overall environment seemed more tolerant.  After all, Brady was more familiar with the area and he felt safe sharing a kiss where any number of other students might see.  When Brady cupped the back of Sam’s head, their kiss became more passionate, making Sam grateful that all of his hunter paraphernalia was hidden and his bed was clear of weapons.  And, thankfully, he’d taken out his last stitches two days earlier.
Brady reached into his pocket—almost certainly to check for a condom.  Sam was grateful.  He hadn’t expected to need one so soon after moving and hadn’t yet located a Planned Parenthood where he could get some for free.  The whole outing with Brady had been great, though not what he was used to.  A quick one night stand would be some welcome familiarity.  But instead, Brady pulled out his cell phone.
“What’s your number?”
Sam stared at him for a moment, completely thrown by the question.  This guy wasn’t just trying to have sex with him.  He wanted them to see each other again.  To Sam’s surprise, he realized that they’d gone on a date or something, and it might not be the only time they did it.  No one had ever asked for his phone number before.  It took him a while to remember and recite it.
Brady immediately texted him, then said, “There.  You’ve got my number now too.”  He gave Sam another, longer kiss before pulling back and smiling slyly at him.  “I’ll see you later.”
Sam went into his room, tossed his backpack onto the floor, then lay down in his bed.  His dick was partially hard and his whole body was shaking from nerves or adrenaline.  A few tears ran down his cheeks—not tears of fear or sadness….  Okay, maybe a little fear.  He had a thing for someone.  More importantly, someone had a thing for him too.  As startling as the development was, it was a good thing.  Things were finally beginning to get better.
His phone buzzed.  When he checked it there was a text message from Brady.  “Want to get breakfast tomorrow and compare our schedules?  I still need to pick out two more elective classes.  Maybe we can take something together?”
“Sounds great,” Sam replied before starting to touch himself to the thought of the smart, beautiful man who wanted something more from him than just sex.

{Special} College!AU Momo
major: photography / concentration: commercial
minor: dropped her dance minor because she realized she liked her own style way more than taking classes on it,,,
sports: urban dance team
clubs: cooking club (except she doesn’t cook she just tastes everyone else is making), reviews restaurants with jeongyeon for the campus blog, and sometimes gets asked by dance minors for help which shocks her because she’s like “how do you guys know i dance,,,” and they’re like “we see all of nayeons snapchats of you!!!!” and momo is like,,,,,,,,,,,clueless
ever since she was really young everyone assumed momo was going to pursue her career in dance,,,, she’s just always been so good at it and loved with a passion that people were like you hAVE to major in dance or theater,,,, be a PERFORMER
but momo,,,,,was hesitant with it because as much as she adores it,,, something about making it her chief discipline,,, took out the fun in it
so when she entered college and chose photography everyone was like ??? because since when did she like taking photos
or doing anything aside from laying upside down from her bed watching dramas or being in a practice studio,,,,,,,
but momo’s simple answer was “food”
“what about,,,,,,,food?”
“i want,,,,,,,to take photos of food.”
which im not kidding, is an actual career like who do you think takes those videos for mcdonalds or those nice pics for restaurant menus like this is a lEGITMATE business and momo is like “i heard sometimes you can eat the food after,,,,,,,if it isn’t fake :       )”
jihyo: oh that’s why you want to do it, to eat right
momo:,,,,,,,,,,,
momo: ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,yes
she tried doing rookie shots of jeongyeon’s cooking or her sisters and ,,, the photos didn’t turn out half bad so she decided it’d be something she could see herself doing
plus it would still give her time to practice dance for her own leisure,,,,,,
to be honest,,,college was a bit of challenge for her - momo isn’t the most schoolwork motivated and she has habits of slipping into her hobbies more than her schoolwork
cue: moms jihyo and jeongyeon reminding her that she has finals and projects due
and momo crying over the prerequisite biology course
but hey,,,,,she has a dream and she wants to be able to follow it (and make money,,,,as all college students dream of some day LOL)
plus,,,,,if anything,,,,,,she makes money on the side tutoring dance and being in small performances set up by friends or dance majors so you know ,,,,,, it isn’t like she gave up the thing she really loves
she’s just being realistic
but she does get lost on her way to class like all the time,,, like she’s been on campus long enough to know where the buildings are but she zones out and ends up outside of the library and not the art department
do you know how many times sana has found her there??? too many to count
keeps getting scouted by different uni sports teams while she’s at the gym because she’s FIT and has a more grueling workout then some of the dudes on the football team
but the only team she’s on is an urban dance one because she’s friends with the leader who lets her choreograph parts and it’s the only group that lets her ,,,, like?? break the rules??? of what people think dance is about
but yeah even though she can sleep for 16 hours straight and eats unhealthy snacks in class,,,,,,she can probably run laps around half the people on campus
nayeon calls her ab-god and momo is just like “i can make my abs dance wanna see” and nayeon is like YES im gonna put it on instagram and jeongyeon has to pull momo’s shirt down before it can happen because quote on quote, “stop exploiting her for likes nayeon”
shares her dorm with jeongyeon’s and you can see who lives on which side
because one is perfectly clean, with a new-looking monitor on the desk and textbooks staked by class and bed sheets white and crisp
while the other is,,,,,,,mismatched sheets,,,,,,,30248 teddy bears,,,,,,,and a desk that has empty chip bags on it and momo’s sweater that she wore a week ago
who cuts out photos of pretty food and tapes them to their binders??? momo
everyone in her class is like ,,,,,,,,,,,, oh and she’s like “this is a photo of a hotdog. a hotdog,,,,,,i would die for”
most definitely sleeps in class when she can LOL
you first see momo  on your way to pick up a friend’s films from the photography department
she’s standing outside of the entrance,,,, where you have to swipe an ID to get in looking glum and you wonder if maybe,,,,,,she forgot her ID?
you don’t want to be weird and just ask her but it’s obvious the way she’s looking at the machine and the people passing through
it’s even more obvious when mina walks by, and goes “no ID?”
momo pouts as mina swipes herself in and shakes her head “cant help you momorin,,,,,,,,,start using the wallet we gave you!!!”
momo sighs,,,mumbling to herself that dropping her money and cards into her huge backpack has always worked before - todays just an unlucky day
you feel bad and so you walk over and go “h,,,,hey im going to be going inside and i can hand you my ID after i swipe it if you want???”
momo’s eyes light up,,,,,,,she does a little clap and thanks you
you swipe yourself in and then discreetly hand over your ID to her so she can do it too
once inside momo grins,,,,,her smile is so cute and she takes your hand to shake it,,,,,thanking you again
with that she rushes off,,,, realizing she’s late now for class and you stand there a little bewildered because something tells you she isn’t,,,,like a lot of other people is she
you learn quickly that you’re right - she’s not
because the next day as you’re leaving the photography department you see momo again
and she doesn’t have her ID,,,,,,,,,again
and you swipe her in and she’s all stars in her eyes thanking you!!!! till she goes “oh,,,,,,,,,,,,but i think i forgot my camera in the dorm oh no,,,,,,,i have to go back,,,,,”
you watch again, amazed, as she dashes out of the building you try to think of something to say but you just call out “take your ID too!”
she does something of a nod,,,,,,disappearing out the doors
this goes on for a bit,,,,,,,momo seems to never have her ID and you always bump into her at the entrance
sometimes a friend or someone else will swipe her in, but for a while it seems like she’s looking for you
when she sees you,,,,,she calls your name,,,,,,,,the smile of hers is really simple - it’s not big and bright
but it’s, it’s got this subtle beauty
even a bit of a sleepy beauty,,,something that reminds you of warm blankets and lazy afternoons
even though you’ve seen her run,,,,,like she’s part of the track team and get up and all worried about forgetting anything else before going in,,,,,,,for the most part momo’s energy is always dreamy
and you,,,,,,you think it’s cute
at one point you’d been handing her your ID when a girl,,,,with short hair and a stern expression swatted your arm and went “don’t give it, she needs to learn to stop losing her ID!”
you had looked at her and momo had frowned “jeongyeon,,,,,,,,they’re being nice,,,,,,,,,,,,,”
jeongyeon has narrowed her eyes and went “momo told me about you,,,,,,stop swiping her in! she needs to start bringing her ID! doesn’t it bother you that she’s always here?”
your gaze had shifted to momo,,,,,,to be honest nothing about her bothered you in the least,,,,,,,you’d swipe momo in for the rest of your academic career if she wanted
but you didn’t even have to say that,,,,,jeongyeon just huffed and went “i see you’ve been won over - you’re hopeless!”
turning to momo she’d pinched her roommates nose and went “stop relying on being adorable and start getting organized - we’re going to clean our WHOLE dorm till you find your ID”
with that jeongyeon had pulled momo out of the building,,,,,,momo had went willingly,,,,but turned and waved to you
shyly you’d brought your hand up to wave back,,,,,,,but jeongyeon’s words kept rattling in your head
‘you’ve been won over  - you’re hopeless!’
you got stuck thinking about it so long that someone had to ask you to move out of the way so they could get through skfljda
but it’s true,,,,,,she really had in some ways,,,,,,won you over
a couple of weeks passed by and momo had vanished from her spot near the entrance,,,you were a little upset,,,,,you wouldn’t lie
but you were happy thinking that she had probably finally gotten her ID back
until you saw her again,,,,,,
“do you need me to swipe you in?”
momo shakes her head,,,,,the way her hairs up in a messy bun and the oversized hoodie hanging over her frame,,,,,you wanna CRY she’s so damn cute
“jeongyeon made me get my ID remade,,,,and i haven’t lost it because-”
proudly she shows you the lanyard around her neck, from the bottom hangs her ID pass and you look at it,,,,it’s pink,,,,,with little dogs on it
(see: you’d cry she’s so frea K I NG CUTE)
“so what’s up?”
momo motions to the door with her hand,,,,you give her a confused look but she goes “i wanna take you somewhere i really like,,,,,,do you want to come?”
she doesn’t tell you the name of where you’re going or where it’s located, you just follow her as momo takes your hand and excitedly talks to herself about how she’s been craving this food for a while,,,,,,,
you end up seated in a small family-owned restaurant,,,,momo is on a first name basis with the lady that takes your order and even knows about her kids and husband
momo seems like she’s at home,,,,,not even looking at the menu since she orders her “regular”
you try to see if there’s anything you’d like but momo urges you to get what she is - she promises you’re going to love it!!!!!!
and you’ve never seen her so animated and excited about something
her usual daydreamy like expression turns vibrant
and she tells you that this place is her favorite,,,,she’s been coming here since she was a kid
and you’re like,,,,,,,,still not sure why she’s taken you here and what this is like is this a thank you for you helping her swipe in all those times?? is this just new friends hanging out???? is this a date,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
the idea makes your heart do a ! and you’re not sure how to calm yourself down
but momo is thankfully distracted because when the food comes out,,,,,,it’s like a whole new person is in the room with you
and you reach over but momo is like “wait! let me take a photo!”
she takes her camera out,,,,,not her phone,,,,and you’re like “should i pos-”
but she instead starts snapping pics of the food, admiring it and smiling to herself and she’s like “oh! we should take one too!”
you flush bright pink as she moves over to sit beside you
she’s squished up against your arm,,,,,the smell of strawberry scented shampoo and her pretty profile up close is enough to send you into a mini heart attack
but momo just comfortably throws up the peace sign and giggles for you to do it too
the food,,,,,,like momo said,,,,,,, is exceptionally good!!! you and momo don’t talk, both totally immersed in the flavor
but once you’re done,,,,,finishing what is a serving for four people,,,,,,you go “thanks for taking me here! i never knew this place existed!”
momo nods, patting her stomach “i only show it to people who i like”
those words make you freeze,,,,,,like,,,,,,,,,what kind of like,,,,,,you’re so confused,,,,,,,
momo’s ability to say things like that with no change in expression makes your head spin because what??????? does?????? this???? all???? mean???
momo suddenly gets up to pay and you try to get some bills from your wallet but she’s just like “you don’t have to, ive racked up points!”
confused you look at her pull a card from her pocket, the name of the restaurant and holes punched all throught it except for the message that says ‘come 10 times and get a free meal!’
you gwack and momo hands it to the lady from before who asks “do you want another one?” momo just smiles in obvious response
and when you two are back on the train to campus,,,,,you practically jump from your skin when momo softly lays her head on your shoulder and falls asleep
her mouth open in just the slightest and her hand tightly holding yours,,,,,,
you feel even more nervous when you guys are standing together in front of the dorms,,,,,,momo isn’t say anything
and you’re so worried you did something wrong that you’re trying to come up with an apology in your head when momo just goes
“we should ,,,,,,, do this again”
you nod,,,,almost too fast,,,,,,,your excitement makes you embarrassed but momo just seems to find it cute
then she takes a step closer and adds “if you ,,,,, want we should also ,,,”
her hands come up to hold your face,,, your eyes dart back and forth and you feel your heart spin but you close your eyes
and momo kisses you ever so gently,,,,,,the same sensation of when a snowflake falls on your skin
but it makes your whole body tingle because,,,,,she did it,,,,,,she kissed you
and oh god you don’t want to do anything else for the rest of your life but kiss hirai momo,,,,,,,,,
you say your goodnights and you go home on cloud nine,,,,,,momo falls face first into her bed and jeongyeon is about to tell her to at least take of her shoes first
when momo turns her head, smiling and goes “jeongyeon,,,,,,i found someone i like,,,,,,,,,,as much as i like food,,,,,,,,”
jeongyeon almost doesn’t believe it LOL
the first act of dating momo is you two swipe yourselves into the photography department while holding hands and it’s so c*rny,,,,,,yet sweet
well i mean jihyo finds it sweet and nayeon says it’s corny but you know whatever
you actually get you and momo matching lanyards to wear for your IDs and you’re too shy to give it to her but when she finds them hanging on the wall of your dorm
she grasps them and is like !!!!!!! cute !!!!!
you got one with peaches on it because momo told you that’s what her name means and you didn’t say that either,,,,,,but momo somehow just Knew
momo is the comfortable college gf meaning she loves wearing baggy jeans, big t-shirts, uni sweaters, and sneakers
but sometimes when she has a dance competition to go to or sana makes her go shopping with her
you get to see momo in cute shorts or dresses and wow ok,,,,like i know we established how adorable she is but momo is hot,,,,,,and you’re like oh my,,,,,,,,,,,god and everyone is like “don’t drool” and you’re like excuse me but my gf is killing me????? do you see how good she looks??????
but to momo it doesn’t really matter what she wears, she’s fine showing up to get cereal with you in the campus dinning hall at 3 pm in her goofy pajamas like she’ll do it
but no matter what she always has that,,,,,strawberry scented shampoo,,,,,and this laid back aura that makes you feel that spinning heart feeling anytime you see her
you get to see momo’s photography and she’s pretty good,,,,,she’s definitely more careful with product photography then she is with like taking photos of people
see: all her pics of food for her portfolio are amazing, top quality
you ask her to take one photo of you and it’s a blurry nightmare
matching coffee mugs over matching phone cases
she unapologetically eats off your plate if you’re eating,,,,,,like even if you’re just unwrapping some gum she’ll break half the stick off
but you don’t mind,,,,,tbh you start carrying snacks with you because you know momo’s going to eat like half of yours LOL
when you first see her dance,,,,,you can’t even believe it’s her,,,,,,,
the same girl who just kissed you on the corner of the lips because she missed your mouth because she was still sleepy,,,,,,looks like the most fierce girl on stage
you know everyone else in the group is doing good,,,but you can’t look away from momo,,,,,,her impact is TOO strong
and afterword, sweaty and being flocked by people complimenting her - momo finds you in the crowd and sluggishly falls into your arms for a hug
“you did amazing, i never knew you were that good!”
she rubs her face into your neck and just goes “im hungry,,,,,,”
that’s momo as a gf for you; affectionate and hungry aksdlskjg
but really,,,being with her is so chill and you get worried because you want to do more for her, take her somewhere fancy or get her something expensive because she means a lot to you
but momo is totally fine with cuddling and a movie,,,,,,,,+ three different types of popcorn
and she just wants to kiss your face and not get up from the couch
also she never fails to amaze you because you once went to a dog cafe because you thought momo would have fun since she loves animals and cafe snacks
and an hour later, with a big dog sitting in her lap momo turns to you with a big smile and goes
“im actually allergic to them”
you almost yELL because oh GOD WHAT but she’s like not deathly!! she tries to hug the dog again but you’re like um excuse me let me get my gf out of her before she sneezes herself into a coma or something oh god
studying with momo consists of you quizzing her on stuff and giving her candy if she gets it right but every once in a while she just pushes the flash cards from your hands and asks to get all mushy instead
and you can’t resist her at all
jeongyeon is like “you’re wearing momo-colored glasses, all you ever see is her” and you’re like,,,,,,,yep,,,,,you right,,,,,,,,,i love her so much
you and momo looooove just laying out in a park after an exhausting week of school and work and everyone else and you guys share headphones and listen to a playlist you made
and there’s a song that goes ‘you are my peach, your are my plum’ and everytime it plays momo wiggles closer to you and mumbles that it’s your song,,,,,,,,because she’s your peach,,,,,and you’re her plum and ok is it the cutest thing ever? yeah. yeah it is
momo getting you to come to the gym with her and you’re like ,,,,, cant we just be slOBS together and go get some cheetos,,,,,,,
but momo is like it’s fun!! and you’re like idgi how can you like exercising but also not moving for 24 hours straight
dahyun: it’s her talent, the duality of les momo
you guys eskimo kiss and momo tickles you with the ends of her hair and it’s so damn soft,,,,,,,
momo is a horrible texter but it’s ok because she makes up for it by just sending the same heart emoji over and over again and then randomly you’ll get a selfie from her that makes you want to frame it and put it up in the moma she’s so damn gorgeous
she’s also the type of girlfriend to point to two cute animals cuddling and be like “us”
but also point to french fries stuck together and be like “ U!!S!!!!!”
you catch her dancing to herself and forgetting she’s in a library full of students and just so people stop staring at only her you start trying to dance along with her and ,,,
ok you love her so much and momo loves you ok she probably just blankly stares at you for 30 minutes before going “you’re pretty” and then passing out on top of her textbook

The Old College Try (Lin/Reader roommate AU)
Summary: You spent the summer before your freshman year of college thinking your roommate was going to be a girl named Lin. When you get to campus, that’s not what you find.
Part One: In which there are rooming assignment mishaps, salsa dancing, and Lunchables.
You can find Part Two here!
You can find Part Three here!
Note: Write-a-thon Day 1! This can probably stand alone, but I’m tentatively calling it Part 1 out of 3. College!Lin is hard to walk away from, and I have plans for him.
Rating: T
Words: 2803
“What’s your roommate’s name again?”
You were crammed in the backseat of your parents’ car, all of your bags that didn’t fit into the trunk stacked precariously around you.
“The housing assignment letter said her name is Lin, she intends to be a theater major, and she’s from New York. That’s really all I know, mom,” you responded shortly, tired of repeating the same information over and over again.
“Theater is exciting, and it’s nice that she already knows what she wants to study!”
You ignored the pointed remark and looked out the window. Your parents meant well, but they could be exhausting, and you really wanted to enjoy today. You had spent the entire summer anxiously awaiting move-in day and it was finally here.
Your excitement ratcheted up when your car turned into the beautiful campus that was going to be your home for the next four years. Your hand was pressed against the car window as you rolled past the old buildings in search of a place to park. Your parents finally found the lot near your building, and you left them to start unloading the trunk while you signed in and got your room key.
After meeting your R.A and collecting your key, you found your parents and the three of you trekked up to your room, balancing suitcases and bags in your arms. You fumbled with the key but got your door open, and walked inside the pleasantly cool dorm room.
“Wow, this is fantastic,” your dad exclaimed as he took a look around the room.
You had to agree. Your room was much larger than you had expected, and it was in one of the newer buildings, which meant things actually functioned. You had beaten your roommate here so you also had your pick of the furniture.
After getting all of your belongings into your new room, you exchanged teary hugs goodbye with your parents and started unpacking. You had gotten most of the big stuff done when a girl from down the hall knocked on your door.
“Hi, I’m Tess! I just wanted to know if you wanted to come with my roommate and I to grab some lunch.”
You both laughed as your stomach growled. “That’s embarrassing, but I guess it also gives you your answer!”
Tess introduced you to her roommate, Lanie, and the three of you used your campus map to locate the nearest dining hall. You showed your student ID cards at the door and grabbed a tray to fill with food.
“Have you met your roommate yet?” asked Lanie.
“Nope, she must not be coming until later in the day. It’s been just me all morning.”
“Hopefully she’s cool. If not, you can drag your bed into our room,” teased Tess. “We won’t have room to walk, but it’ll be like a sleepover every night.”
The three of you spent the rest of the afternoon wandering around the campus, trying to get a feel for where everything was. Tess and Lanie were both hilarious and you were beyond relieved to have made two friends already.
“What do you guys want to do tonight?” asked Lanie. “There’s supposed to be a ton of stuff going on.”
“You guys can make plans. I want to see if my roommate ever showed up and then maybe the four of us can meet up later?”
The girls agreed and you made your way back to the dorm on your own. The door to your dorm room was unlocked, and you felt a little nervous as you realized that meant your roommate was there. You took a deep breath and walked inside.
“Hey, I’m-” you started to introduce yourself but abruptly paused when you saw that the person in the room wasn’t your roommate but was instead a guy with dark eyes. “Oh, sorry. I thought you were my roommate. Do you know Lin?”
The guy in question cocked his head in confusion and grabbed a sheet of paper off the desk. “This is room 625, right? Building B?”
You nodded, looking equally confused.
“And this is your room?”
“Yes…?”
He held out a hand for you to shake. “Hey, roomie. I’m Lin. Lin-Manuel, actually, but Lin is fine.”
“What?” you asked, baffled and frustrated. “You’re my roommate? You’re a guy!”
“You’re observant, I’ll give you that,” he teased, an unreasonably amused smile spreading across his face.
You ripped the piece of paper out of his hands and confirmed what he had just told you. His room assignment put the two of you together.
“How did you not notice something was up when you saw my name? you asked.
“I moved this summer and I guess the school didn’t update my information fast enough. I didn’t get that paper until this afternoon when I showed up at move-in, and honestly, I didn’t read past my room number.”
You nodded and sighed. “Well, obviously they’ve dropped the ball big time. We’ll have to go to the housing office tomorrow.”
“We could do that, or…”
“Or?”
“Or we could not. It’s just that one of us is gonna have to move, and this is the only air conditioned freshman dorm. Plus it’s a corner room, so it’s huge. Wherever we end up will be way worse than this.”
“Are you kidding?” you asked through a laugh. “You’re not, are you?”
“I have a sister, so living with a girl doesn’t bother me as much as living in a tiny, sweltering room would,” he shrugged. “I’m not gonna, like, watch you change if that’s what you're worried about.”
You laughed again. “I wasn’t worried about that until you said it.”
He started laughing with you and you finally noticed that he was actually kind of cute. You thought of Tess and Lanie and figured you’d at least have somewhere to crash if you needed it.
“This will probably be a disaster, but okay,” you gave in, throwing up your hands. “I honestly just don’t feel like packing up all my stuff again, and I’ll admit the air conditioning is nice. You know we’ll have to keep this quiet, right? Otherwise goodbye fancy room.”
“Secret roomies. Sounds kind of cool.”
Just as Lin got his sentence out, Lanie and Tess both flew into the room.
“Hey, we just got invited to a party and wanted to...oh, hi. Our new friend over here never mentioned a boyfriend,” Lanie teased, looking at you with her eyebrows raised.
“That’s because there’s no boyfriend to mention. This is Lin.”
“Shut the fuck up,” laughed Tess. “As in your roommate Lin? I’m suddenly disappointed with Lanie.”
You noticed Lin flush, and smiled to yourself. He really was cute.
You introduced Lin to the girls and both of you explained the mix-up together. Lanie and Tess both promised to keep the information to themselves, and help you keep the situation quiet however they could.
“So, you were saying something about a party?” asked Lin.
“Yes!” exclaimed Tess. “Non-freshmen don’t move in for another two days, but apparently fraternities and sororities are here already. We got invited to our first frat party!”
“So a bunch of frat guys and drunk freshmen? Seems like a bad time,” you reasoned.
You got hit with double puppy eyes from Lanie and Tess. “Come on, it’ll be so much fun. We can’t go without you. We promise not to get too drunk!”
“Are you in?” you asked Lin, who shrugged.
“Could be fun,” he answered.
“Okay,” you sighed. “I’m in.”
Tess and Lanie were full of shit, as it turned out. Both girls proceeded to get completely plastered almost immediately, leaving you mildly annoyed and fully stressed out.
“You know you don’t have to babysit them, right?” Lin asked.
He had blessedly stayed mostly sober and although a few girls had asked him to dance, he stayed by your side. “I kind of do, though. The most sober friend always has to watch out for the drunk ones. Welcome to life as a girl.”
He winced. “Right, you’re right. Sorry. I’ll help.”
You looked at him out of the corner of your eye and grinned a little. “You’re kind of nice, you know that?”
You laughed as he knocked his shoulder into yours. “I don’t love how surprised you sound.”
“I have a feeling you're going to be full of surprises.”
“Babysitters can have a little fun, right?” he asked, holding his hand out to you. “We can watch them and dance at the same time.”
“Lin, I am stone cold sober. I'm not dancing.”
“Come on,” he teased, moving his feet and hips in a way that was not entirely unattractive. It was actually completely attractive, if you were being honest.
“Are you...dancing salsa? In a frat house?”
“I am, and so are you,” he responded, grabbing your hand and putting the other on your waist.
“Lin, I don't know how!” you shouted, giggling out of both amusement and nerves. “I'm going to embarrass myself.”
“I think we’ll be embarrassing ourselves in front of each other plenty. Now follow my lead, I'll teach you.”
Before long your hair was flying all over the place and you were laughing as Lin twirled you while you clumsily tried to mimic his movements. He dipped you just as the song came to an end and smiled widely as he brought you back up.
“Not bad for a beginner. We’ll have you in competitions by the end of the year.”
You snorted. “It's cute that you think I'm ever doing this again. Adorable, actually.”
“Oh admit it, you were having fun.”
As soon as he said that, you realized you had lost eyes on Tess and Lanie.
“Oh shit,” you mumbled to yourself as you scanned the room. Lin must have realized what you were doing, because he started looking around, too.
You and Lin split up to look for the girls and you were eventually the one to find them. They were in the kitchen, somehow even more drunk than before, and surrounded by a group of guys who were handing them shots. You felt a little sick to your stomach as you ran through ideas to get them out of there without causing a scene. Just as you were about to give up and just drag them with you, Lin walked into the kitchen.
“Yo, cops are coming,” he said loudly, resting a hand on your back.
Everyone started taking off, and Lin intercepted Lanie and Tess as they tried to leave with the group. You each took a girl and led them out of the house, Tess belligerently grabbing a six pack on her way out the door.
The fresh air felt incredible on your skin after being packed in a stuffy house for the last few hours. “Are cops really coming?” you asked Lin after taking a few breaths.
“No,” he snorted. “I just figured it was the best way to get those assholes to leave a few drunk girls alone without a fight. You looked about a second away from trying to take them all on.”
“It wouldn't have been my best plan,” you conceded as Lin smirked at you.
You were glad the distance from the party to your dorm was a short one, because Tess had several inches on you and supporting her weight was becoming a trial. Once you made it inside, you fished the key out of her pocket and Lin helped you put the two roommates to bed. You told Lin you could take it from there, and he went to your room while you pulled the girls’ shoes off and covered them with a blanket. After leaving them with water on their desks for the morning, you joined Lin.
“Look what I stole,” you said, holding up the beer Tess had taken from the party. “I probably shouldn't now, though, I'm starving and foodless.”
“I have just the thing,” he answered, rolling off his bed and walking over to the mini-fridge. “Pizza or nachos?”
You laughed out loud when you saw Lin holding up two Lunchables. “Nachos, please.”
He tossed you the box and the two of you sat cross-legged on his bed, eating elementary school snacks and drinking cheap beer. As you traded the chocolate bars in your box, you were hit with a rush of gratitude for your roommate.
“Hey Lin? Thank you for everything. Tonight could have gone really differently if you weren't there.”
“I just did what anyone would have done,” he said, seeming a little touched but waving it off.
“No,” you shook your head. “Believe me, most guys wouldn't have helped me liked you did.”
“I don't know if that's true, but I promise to have your back whenever you need me,” he said and raised his beer to clink against yours in a toast. You had only known him for a day, but you believed him. “And you traded your superior Crunch bar for my Hershey’s, so we can call it even.”
Lin grabbed your trash to throw away outside while you grabbed your things to take a shower. By the time you got back to the room, Lin had already changed into pajamas and was listening to music, the volume low so as not to annoy anyone in the rooms next door. He shut the music off completely when he saw you getting into bed and then laid back down on his own.
“You don't have to do that,” you assured him. “I'm not really going to sleep yet.”
“I'm not tired yet, either. Want to talk?” he asked, rolling onto his side and looking at you from across the room.
You smiled to yourself as you looked at his face. He was clearly lying, because the boy looked exhausted. “You sure you don't want to go to bed?”
“I'd rather talk to you.”
And so you talked. You told him about your parents and your friends from home. He laughed at what you thought he'd be like when you still assumed he was a she. He confirmed he was going to study theater and shared some stories about his many performances as a kid. It was around four that morning when his eyes started to close against his will. You let the conversation trail off and he finally drifted off to sleep, you following him soon after.
You woke up late the next morning to the smell of coffee and a gentle nudge on the shoulder. You blearily looked up at Lin, who grinned at your sleepy expression.
“It's eleven, so I thought you'd probably want to get up. I'll leave your coffee on your desk.”
“Thank you,” you croaked. “That was really nice, how much do I owe you?”
“You can get the next ones. I'm going to take a shower,” he replied, grabbing a towel.
You drank your coffee and got dressed before going to check on Tess and Lanie. Both were awake, miserable, and highly apologetic.
“We’ll never drink again,’” swore Lanie.
You raised a brow at her and Tess jumped in to clarify. “We’ll never get that drunk again.”
“That's probably also a lie, but I'll take it,” you laughed. “The night wound up being okay, anyway. I'll forgive you.”
“Yeah, your hot roommate got to play protective boyfriend all night. What are you complaining about?” joked Tess
“Shut up. He was just being a good friend, to me and to both of you.”
“Oh, I'm sure he wants to be a very good friend to you,” replied Tess suggestively, making Lanie giggle.
“You guys both suck and I hope your hangovers last forever.”
You left their room without saying goodbye and walked back into your own just as Lin was tugging on a shirt. His hair was damp, and between that and the conversation you had just had, you were flustered.
“We can't hook up,” you spat out without thinking. Lin looked completely bewildered and you rushed to continue. “I'm not saying that you want to! Or that I want to! I just mean that sometimes things can happen, and if we’re living together, we can't accidentally do anything. It would make it weird.”
You wanted to die when you finished blabbering and saw the smirk on Lin’s face.
“Worried I might try to seduce you?” he asked teasingly. You flushed beet red and you tried to cut him off but he kept going. “Okay. I promise to try and resist your womanly wiles if you think you can manage to avoid falling under my spell. Promise?”
Your embarrassment faded as you laughed at his antics. He held out his pinky and you linked it with yours. “I promise.”
He lifted your pinky to kiss and you suddenly wondered if it was a promise you could keep.

I'm getting sued from an old car accident? will my insurance pay?

On friday 4/25 my 03 Tahoe was stolen in front of my house it was recovered the following day 4/26 about 9pm?
it was about 2:30am when the vehicle was stolen, the police was called and they came out to the scene. they gave me a file number. Later in the a.m i called the Insurance and reported the auto theft i gave all the current information my statement was being recorded. The insurance inspector came out to inspect the vehicle on Tuesday theyre were alot of damage inside out. He said it was about $4,000.00 worth of damage. It maybe was going to be total loss. I went ahead and called the adjustor to follow up on the inspection he then said he gave my claim to a investigator for further review. I mention to him that my vehicle is at my house when it should be in the tow yard, that it seems they are lacking holding off in helping me with this situation. Can I let somone drive my car who doesn't have insurance? [Ontario]?
So the law says you can let somone drive your car if they have a license. If they get into an accident the charges are on my insurance. Make sure that if you are loaning your car to someone else that you first verify their license or you may be without a car for 7 days while it is in impound. Ref: http://find-a-driving-school.ca/10-ontar But law also states that if you are driving you must have insurance ... right? So for example... can I let my bro drive my car even though he has his G2 and is not insured. What are the consequences? Thanks!

After working things out with my husband, it seems like the best time for us Anyway, my insurance policy will finish in August and I'll have to get new insurance (I won't be able to continue with my current insurance policy for reasons beyond the scope of this question). Will this cause me problems with the new insurance company (I still don't know what insurance I am going to purchase)? Will the NOT cover my pregnancy and delivery and consider it a pre-existing condition? What's your advice? We really don't want to postpone pregnancy any more and now is not the best time for us""

Is it a legal requirement to carry your car insurance documentation at all times?
Okay, this is the second time i've asked a question in the last two days but this forum is really interesting and gets me thinking. While I was at University, I was driving innocently along when I realized I didn't have my lights on. At that PRECISE MOMENT, I saw blue flashing lights behind me and the police pulled me over. He asked ''Do you know why I pulled you over?'' and I said 'Yes sorry! I didn't have my lights on''. He then proceeded to put me in the back of his police car and ask me questions such as name, address, telephone number, mobile telephone number, height, weight etc.. which I believed to be innocent questions.. but then the questions kept going down a quite frankly rediculous route and he asked me ''hair colour, eye colour, what are you wearing?, where are you going? why are you going there? etc etc and I started to wonder if he was taking the mick. Then after all that he asked for my car insurance documentation and driving lisence and I said I didn't have any on me except my lisence. He looked at my lisence, wrote down some information and gave it back to me. He then said ''do you realize it is an offence not to carry your car insurance documents with you when asked to produce them at the roadside?''. Again I apologized and said that I had no idea that this was the case. He then gave me five days to produce my photo and counterpart driving lisence and car insurance documents at the local police station or I would be arrested for failing to produce documents on demand. He then asked me to provide a testimony which would be read in court if I didn't produce the documents and so I said ''I'm terribly sorry for any inconvenience''. He then let me out. Suffice to say, the next day I took my documents to the police station for inspection. Is this standard proceedure?""

Emancipated 16 year old car insurance help?

Anyway my question is it possible to get insurance at 16 years old on your own for a resonable price. If so with what car insurance company. My car caught on fire due to some electrical wiring, im fully comp, and have never claimed before. But sneaky as they are, they have told me that they do not cover electrical wiring faults, which has caused the fire. But the AA who towed my car in has catergorised it as fire damage. Surely they must cover the fire damage. I took it to a repair centre near me, and have asked them to have a quick check, and they also say its fire damage and what not, this has been procrastinated for so long by the insurance company, (claims company rather) that i can't remember what the repair centre has stated. Surely, fully comp covers something like this? THEIR engineers have said that there was no further damage to the rest of the car, but can i trust THEIR engineers? A full check up costs a lot, as they would have to take apart the car ( i believe? ) When i rang up the lady at the claims centre, she had no idea what case i was on, she literally said 'give me a moment to read up on your case' for me, thats a bit pathetic. While speaking on the phone with her not only was she rude, almost shouting at me (as i pressed on further ) . She told me she would send the company policy booklet to show that electrical wiring is not covered, and a letter stating the case was closed and in detail what the whole case is about. A week and a half has gone by (she said couple of days) This is the most annoying thing. She was rude, unhelpful, unwilling to help, and just taking the pee with the whole thing. I just find it sketchy that the letter has not been made, and no further actions or anything has happened (i have also opened another case about another incident - no info .. still) . I think they are just hoping i'd give this up as they are so unwilling to pay out. This is the reason I have insurance. Whats the point otherwise? Sorry for the long read. I have no idea what to do now, can i take it to a small claims court or talk to someone in the city council to further my case? Thanks""

My insurance company doesnt want to pay!!?
I was struck by an uninsured driver on 02-10-11. Because the driver who struck me was uninsured I was forced to file a claim with my insurance company(Omni Insurance). The car was towed to CJ's collision at 6128 n beechwood Philadelphia, pa ,19138 on 02-11-11. Phone number 215-848-2836. On 02-14-11 Omni insurance sent out an appraiser to evaluate the vehicle. They then faxed an estimate on 02-15-11 totaling $5300 to CJ's collision shop. I went to the collision shop on 02-15-11 to sign paperwork giving them permission to work on my car. They then began the repairs. On 02-18-11 the insurance company then deemed my car a total loss. The vehicle is a 2005 Nissan Altima SL with 96,477 miles. The NADA value for the vehicle is 10,995. According to Omni insurance a car is deemed a total loss when the repairs reach 70% of the value of the vehicle. Omni insurance valued my car at 7,415. They then proposed a settlement offer of 5826.40. They deducted 975.00 in prior damages(which I disagree with) and 1000.00 my deductible. The settlement offer included 386.40 in sales tax. After negotiating on 02-28-11 they proposed an offer of 7835.30. The value they gave my car was 9255. Again 975.00 was deducted and my 1000.00 deductible. They including sales tax and tags/registration fee in the offer. I accepted the offer out of desperation because they also stopped paying for the rental car I was driving on 02-28-11. I work, attend school and have a child my schedule requires that I have a car so I paid out of pocket for a rental car until 03-07-11, expecting the payment to be issued to my lien holder by then so I could purchase another car. I contacted them on 03-07-11 inquiring about my payment and was informed they did not pick the vehicle up from the collision shop therefore they were not issuing a payment. The collision shop gave them a bill of 1750.00 for the repairs they did and the storage fees. The insurance company disagrees with this and refuses to pick the vehicle up and issue my payment. They have also stated this may come out of my settlement offer. The insurance company already has the title to the car and all the necessary paperwork to the vehicle but refuses to issue a payment. It has been a month since I filed my claim and I can no longer afford to pay for a rental especially since it seems I will have to purchase a new vehicle. The insurance company is low balling me and also forcing me to pay for repairs they approved then backed out of.""

At the time of the insured's death, the cash value of the insurance becomes the insurance company's and the death benefits are paid to the beneficiaries.""

I've tried contacting them, but spent 20 minutes on hold on a 0845 number, when they told me to leave a message and they'll call you back, but no, 3 days later and still no call.. so whats going on, am i covered and who's in the wrong? I've given them permission to take a direct debit.""
Getting car insurance with a suspended license?
I posted this question a couple days. I thought I would share my information. My son (not having a valid Drivers License) was able to obtain car insurance through a reputable insurance company. Just thought I would share this information.""

Lost and Found
*Loss and possession, death and life are one, There falls no shadow where there shines no sun.
~Hilaire Belloc
4.14.18
It’s 12:30pm and I wake up with a semi-dread. Where is my wallet? Do I have all my money in it? My heart is racing. Relax, I tell myself. It’s just a dream. Like so many dreams though, it feels real, and in this case too real.
In the dream, I am with my mom. She is surrounded by all of the students she taught years ago in elementary school. They are of course, all adults now. I see her face as she takes in seeing all these students. She's overcome with joy. Smiling, deeply happy. They are all laughing and joking. It's a sweet moment.
But I begin to realize that something is not right. I can't find my wallet. I look for it, or perhaps, I stumble upon it (this part is vague in my dream.) What I do know is I walk down a hallway and notice that my wallet is sitting atop a shelf. I reach for it. Nothing is in it. My heart is racing. Full on racing. Trepidation sets in. I get into a panic and begin retracing steps. Where did it go? Where are all of my cards?
Moments later
Not long after, my dream flashes forward to another time where I've lost my wallet. The dread kicks in again and I look for it. I’m searching all over. I need to find my wallet. I finally do. I then open it up, and it appears that nothing is there. My heart races, where are the cards? (Credit cards, identification cards, etc) Oh my god.I’m thinking. I then look again, turning the wallet upside down and on it’s side. Eventually, I notice all my cards are actually hiding inside a pocket on the side of the wallet. Relief sets in.
Moments pass. Now for a third time, I’m thinking about my wallet. How can it be happening all over again? This time, however, I'm awake. Reality sets in - It was all a dream.
Loss and Gain
It’s 12:50pm. I try to make sense of why I had the dream. I’m also wondering if there is any significance of the image of my mom with her students. Well, similar to my mom sending off a child into the world after teaching them (a form of loss), and then seeing them later on years later (a form of gain); my dream includes losing and then finding, loss and gain in the form of my wallet. And, maybe there is a spiritual meaning for this connection. Has my mom been ushered in my dream to channel the idea of loss and gain,  a sort of profoundly esoteric plot twist? Ok, maybe a bit melodramatic I admit.
There is nothing mysterious or imaginative about losing a wallet. Throughout life, I have lost many, many items. Most usually fall in the category of negligible or low cost items: hats, scarves, earbuds, books, pens... that sort of thing. I’ve also lost phones and wallets. In fact, I did lose a wallet about a year ago. But if I’m being honest, it did have an effect on me.
I felt naked without it. It seems silly but it’s a level of embarrassment and apprehension that comes without having it. Especially when you can’t produce a state ID. It’s immense actually. Going without an ID for just one day is anxiety provoking when you think of all the important things you need to do. Worse, if you are asked by an officer to produce one, it is not fun experience. Or there are normal everyday things like driving, shopping when it requires identification, clubbing, etc. Going without my ID for 3 weeks then having to fly to Texas for a trip added to the misery. It means you are dreading any moment you may need it. I spent many days reflecting on the situation - so much I decided I’d write about it someday.
But my experiences with loss typically don’t produce this sort of reckoning. They simply illuminate for me how forgetful I am, and of course how badly I need organization in my life. But my most prized lesson, believe it or not, was 2 years earlier when I was 27 years old.
2 Years Earlier
It’s October 2015 and I’m in Pennsylvania helping my friend Tara move. It was a long and tiring move. But I had plenty of times received the favor. So I felt not just a desire to want to support her, but an automatic duty to do so.
We’ve packed everything now and have safely moved it to her family’s home using a van from a rental company. After a day or so more I head back home. Only when I return, there is a problem. I can’t find my laptop. Like most things, I dismiss it. I’ll find it, I tell myself. It’s gotta be among my things somewhere. I’ll look for it and it will be there, It has to be.
I look and look. But I can’t find it. Oh, it must be back at Tara’s place. I’ll give her a call. Tara looks. Then she looks again. She can’t find it either. I call the moving company. The van was where I remember having it last. No luck. About a week and a half later it’s confirmed that I did indeed lose my laptop. Adding insult tin injury, I’d just paid off the laptop after 4 monthly payments and $2400. I am at first shocked. How could I lose such a valuable item? What was I thinking? Was I thinking? The answer is usually no. I wasn't. Or yes, I was thinking too much. Far more often than not, on things that are not (as) important.
Lessons Learned
When asked by my friend how I felt just a few weeks later, I initially confessed: It definitely bothered me for about a week. Ok maybe two weeks, but after that I had moved on. Was I bluffing? Absolutely not. What was it that made me feel so comfortable with the loss? Surely, I had lost many things before but nothing of this value. I had recently learned the value of presence. Of embracing the is-ness of the moment and being one with it. Perhaps it was preparing me for this situation?
Whatever lessons I learned prior to this situation, none taught me more powerfully than this: losing something costly, very valuable in monetary terms, taught me finite value/nature of all things (temperance), the importance of letting go (detachment), and oneness with self (self-awareness).
Of course, I didn’t voluntarily choose this path. And it would take several times, several years before I could appreciate the lessons it taught.
Typically we believe that if we lose a thing, all we need to do is find it in order for things to be right again. Of course, that isn’t what always happens. Nor is it true that we only need to find that thing for things to be alright. Even if we never find the thing again, we are able, if we allow the loss to be what is needs to be, difficult even painful, it is immeasurable.
Nothing that we lose is really ours
Losing things, even of high value, allows us to be in tune with a greater calling and a greater sense of self. That can only reside in our knowing that nothing can ever truly be lost or gained - so long as we are never attached to things. For when we leave this earth, just as when we enter the dream state, we take something far more with us away, and this is our spiritual being and our essence. Anything that we have material or otherwise, including our bodies, thoughts and even faculties of mind, are the things we borrow while on this earth. If we can learn to live without or with very little, we gain solace in a higher calling - oneness with self.
It’s 5am the next morning. I think I finally figured out what this dream means to me. Presence (gain) is needed in order to be able to function in society, whereas absence (loss) is a reminder that without that function, challenges occur. However, loss has a secondary function - it allows us to cherish that much more the things we do have. Because without them, while we can survive, we are forced to find alternate ways to manage and engage. Therefore, neither is truly good or bad. Both a part of what helps us to grow and learn and be more careful and aware beings.
The dream I had, the image of my mother seeing those children become adults is a harkening of beauty foretold: losing something or someone of so much value is an opportunity to gain faith in their development, in their potential and their value. And seeing them again, like finding a lost wallet of great value, allows us to be transformed in a new way - teaching us the value in all things and the lessons they provide us. Each and every day.

Diary of Invisi Billy
Now you see me, now you...don’t read my diary
