"BELL RINGING" - REVIEW
This drama performed extremely well, reaching #1 in viewership among currently airing short dramas and remaining in the top 2 spots through its entire run. Due to its good results, it stopped being only a webdrama and was broadcast on Chinese national TV and satellite TV as well! 🎉IMO, these accolades are very well deserved!
Plot Premise: The story takes place in Silver Bell Island, pastoral and peaceful with a hint of magic. Chi Ye, who, near the beginning of the story becomes the island's mayor, harbors a secret that none but his assistant know: he is immortal and has lived for hundreds of years, awaiting the return of his beloved, Shen Qi, for whom he made a sacrifice that not even he fully understands the depths of.
Present-day Shen Qi is a happy and carefree young woman, well loved by the community. She plans events and takes care of everyone, as they took care of her when she first arrived at the island. One day, she meets Chi Ye and falls in love at first sight, but, inexplicably, he always makes himself scarce around her. Thus begins her plan to "chase and capture" the reclusive Chi Ye.
✅Recommend! ✅Beautiful visuals, camerawork, etc. ✅Well-written, good flow and pacing ✅Interesting story ✅Good acting from almost all cast ✅Combination of ancient/modern was fun ✅Good characterization despite short length
❌It would have been nice if the second couple was developed more, but this was probably due to time restraints; it would have required a longer drama.
📺Where to watch: MangoTV website/app or MangoTV's official YouTube channels ("MangoTV Drama" and the language-specific channels)
Review (No Spoilers)
I was very impressed with this drama. It was very well written and the production and direction were excellent. Definitely one of my two favorite shorts/minis.
The writers managed the time restraints really well - I haven't read the novel it's based on, and yet I didn't feel like I missed anything at all for comprehension. I really, really liked how it's written like a long movie instead of a series of short episodes. In this sense, it's like a full-length drama, but shorter. This makes it stand out from among other short dramas: the flow is excellent, the plot and the two main characters have depth to them; so you do not get that feeling of superficiality that you see in most mini dramas.
The visuals also stand out. Despite being a modern drama, it has a magical, fairy-like feeling, with soft colors and lighting, rural and village scenery, lots of flowers (LOTS OF FLOWERS!). The camerawork impressed me, because the panning and zooming made even still scenes (like when the couple is just lying in bed) feel very dynamic, while contributing to mood and ambiance. Lots of people have described the drama's visual ambiance as "refreshing" and "healing," and I feel that's correct. The video above really shows a good sample of the feeling you get while watching the drama.
That said, plotwise, this is a very emotional show, and I think the juxtaposition of the peaceful scenes and the emotional turmoil was performed flawlessly. Life and death and fighting against fate are major themes, and the actors really make you feel for the characters.
The main story is set in the present time, with flashbacks to 500 years ago sprinkled throughout. The switching between the two time periods is done very well, and is neither obtrusive nor confusing. The viewer discovers and peels layers of what happened in tribal times as the characters themselves do. This layering is an integral part of the plot, and was written and executed very well.
Storytelling, camerawork, and post-processing filters come together seamlessly once again to create mood in the scenes leading up toward the end. The ending itself is very well written, too, and manages the viewers' feelings well.
Trivia: I forgot to add that voices are everyone's own and were recorded on-location, while filming the action. Recording studio work was limited to when characters were "thinking" and things like that.

FINALLY. someone else who thinks 302 is boring as hell. i only ever see people talk about liking it like the majority of it isnt 2 different segments of 3 Rooms With One Music Track Looped For 45 Minutes (Or More)! that being said i love the concept and the astral projection framing device and i love that the remaster is giving maximus his stupid little newsboy hat. and of course there is the ending leading into 303 😁
ITS NOT JUST ME!!!!! oh my god ive never seen people talk about it at All i didnt even know if people liked it or not. People Like It? it’s like………. it’s All Setup. it has very little going for it on its own its just setup for the rest of the game. i’ve always wondered if it’s more fun to Play than to Watch, when you’re actually trying to Solve The Puzzles, but i do doubt it. it’s just. eh. eh. “the devil’s playhouse is such a great game one of my favorites” i say and then i consider one of its episodes an exhausting nightmare. the rest of the game is good but they did not do a very good job with that one i think. they flopped a little
BUT GOD. IVE ONLY HAD MAXIMUS WITH HIS HAT FOR 1 STILL IMAGE AND ALREADY SEEING HIM HATLESS IN THE ORIGINAL GAME JUST LOOKS SO WRONG. I CANNOT FUCKING WAIT FOR THE REMASTER AND HIS SILLY LITTLE NEWSBOY CAP!!!!!!!! THERE IS A GOOD AND JUST GOD (MAXIMUS HAT RESTORED)
this is only tangentially related but that just reminds me how excited i am to see any other changes/additions like that in the s3 remaster…. the Graphics/Lighting/Modeling/Animations updates are nice but s3 doesn’t need them as much as the first 2 did. it does extremely look like it was made in 2010, and it’s not as nice looking as the remasters, but visually it does totally still hold up, it’s Got good lighting and camerawork, no one’s opening this game and thinking “man this looks like shitty wet cardboard”. (and i’m Always going to be frustrated by the remaster having less Grit and Realistic Textures and being more smooth and vivid and cartoony. but it was a little jarring going straight from s2 to s3 and suddenly the buildings look like this game was made in gmod.) uhh i lost track of what i was saying. Oh right well anyway. aside from the Graphics Updates the other thing really fun about the remasters is all the stuff like… like giving maximus his hat from the concept art. like widening the hole into flint paper’s office and angling the camera through it. updating the Christmas Future scenery in 201 to be consistent with how they actually model that scene in the last episode. Doing all these things that they wanted to do the first time around but couldn’t because of technical limitations and now they can! So I wanna see what other things like that they might do in the tdp remaster……. this could’ve been its own post but i already got this far.
anyway hell yes for 302 having a really cool framing device and really cool ending 👍👍👍👍👍👍 hell no for how its so boring i would rather be looking at pretty much anything else 👎👎👎👎👎👎 and another hell yes for maxs dead grandpas gay little hat 👍👍👍👍👍👍

i never know how to answer a "favourite movie genre" question. i simply do not. wtach enough movies to be able to tell.. my favourite genre
#fern.txt#like i watch movies but they can be anything and i just watch them with one eye open and forget about them#so i always answer well fantasy ofc. i guess. because like. lotr is fantasy right?#and i just rewatch that#but then i fail to name any other fantasy movies i've seen and genuinely enjoyed#i'm not saying everything other than lotr is inherently bad but also that IS what i'm saying AND everything else is simply unmemorable to me#so then i consider what do i most enjoy anyway? other than movies. games ofc. so i still think fantasy is my favourite genre in General#but i could not name any movies#idk. i tend to watch period drama stuff sometimes. but i can’t say i Love everything i’ve seen?#honestly most of the time watching movies i’m unfamiliar with makes me weirdly uncomfortable#so then i end up Not watching new movies i haven't already seen#like i’m not supposed to be seeing them?? and i can’t find it in me to care about the plot/characters either#like i’ve only known you for an hour why should i care about your story#when i watch stuff i mostly just watch it for the general vibe/aesthetic/ambience now that i think about it#i like. cinnamontopography#i like music and nice scenery. camerawork#if those things are cozy to me i will watch the whole thing unaware it has a plot#hm#but apart from lotr i also rewatch pride and prejudice (2005). there is something more about the movie that i simply find comforting#and then i have seen rogue one 3 times which is not the same as rewatching it 20 times a year for comfort's sake#but still it means i loved the movie enough to see it more than once#i've only seen sw twice. it's........ a lot of movies. and i love them but not enough to rewatch them ya feel#but that's about it from me and my relationship with movies

FEATURE: A Vivid Look at JUJUTSU KAISEN’s Second Opening and Ending
Tumblr media
Behind every great anime opening and ending theme is a team of talented animators combining great music and great animation to bring something spectacular to life, no more is that truer than the latest opening and ending of JUJUTSU KAISEN.
As JUJUTSU KAISEN returned from its winter break, the TV anime treated viewers to a brand new opening and ending, complete with brand new animation and more tremendous tracks to enjoy. Both were recently released creditless on the TOHO animation YouTube channel (embedded below) letting fans all around the world enjoy the sight and sound of JUJUTSU KAISEN whenever they want.
Let’s explore who created these two pieces of animation, as well as the meaning behind what we can see.
youtube
The second JUJUTSU KAISEN opening, animated to "VIVID VICE" by Who-ya Extended, is able to ground the series to everyday scenery, doing a complete 180 from the first opening which plays up the mystical elements of JUJUTSU KAISEN.
The team from the first opening return to animate the second — uncommon in TV anime series where the team changes each cour — with Shingo Yamashita returning as the director and storyboarder, bringing his signature style back to JUJUTSU KAISEN. His keen eye for detail and camerawork helps sell the grounded elements in the opening.
The sweeping camera and muted, but still bright, colors grounds JUJUSTU KAISEN’s reality into our own. Every cut of animation in the opening is lit up with such wonderful precision only capable by Yamashita, particularly the way the sun bounces off the buildings reminds me of Tokyo during a wet summer sunset.
Tumblr media
Those colors are once again thanks to ex-Ghibli staffer Eiko Matsushima, who returns from the first ending of JUJUTSU KAISEN. Somehow Matsushima is able to work with the animation style set by series animation director Tadashi Hiramatsu and put her own touch to it and elevate it beyond that seen in the show.
Pokémon: Twilight Wings Episode 5 animation director Moaang also returns to direct the animation in the opening. When brought together with Yamashita’s storyboards and Matsushima’s color direction, all three let the opening make the mundane moments portrayed look spectacular. Tadashi Hiramatsu oversaw the animation as chief animation director, not letting it stray too far from JUJUTSU KAISEN’s overall look.
youtube
The new ending, animated to “give it back" by Cö shu Nie, tells a much different tale than the first one, letting the audience see the students from Tokyo Prefectural Jujutsu High School living their lives as teenagers and showing Itadori feeling like an outsider to the rest of them, mirroring his comeback to the squad.
While this ending might feel like a departure from other Ryohei Takeshita (Eromanga Sensei OP/ED, Wotakoi: Love Is Hard for Otaku ED) directed/storyboarded opening and endings, Takeshita can very much grasp the material he’s working on and reflect the mood of the main character in his work.
Tumblr media
One thing that I absolutely love in anime opening and endings right now is animation replicating how real-life young people see the world they live in. As Yuji uses his smartphone to film, it humanizes the other students around him. Luckily at the drop of the music, the ending shows the rest of the group accepting him for who he is!
Eiko Matsushima once again shows off her skills, this time designating how the colors should look. Having Matsushima work on both the opening and ending gives a sense of cohesiveness to both, but also is nice because she’s really freakin’ good at what she does. Takeshita may have storyboarded the smartphone-like filters and the framing, but Matsushima really made the ending shine.
What did you all think of the second opening and ending to JUJUTSU KAISEN? Let us know down in the comments below!
