Accidently cooked up a silly little au the other day that I am very much enjoying gonna. talk about it under the cut because4 the FUCKING WORMS
OKAY so basically. literally everythign is the same except for the fact that. Ed got entirely yoinked instead of Alphonse. I dunno why that happens but. It does because I say so. Anyways. So this basically mean that Ed gets bonded to an armor instead of Al, and because I desperately wanted the secondary set of Armor to see some light I thought it would be funny to bond Ed to that instead. I haven't fleshed everything out, but as I'm working on that I wanna add a few of the different things in here just because. And I still might tweak things if I think it doesn't make sense. - Al lost his arm first, then traded his tongue and his eye to bond Ed to the armor, making him effectively mute. He's learned ASL and Ed has to translate for him a lot. Although in my hcs Al is a foodie so like. major bummer for taste buds. He likes fun textures and stuff though. I gotta figure out what problems this poses though so we'll figure that out. - Al most likely is going to go into being a state alchemist just for the fact of staying somewhat close to the storyline and stuff. and I don't know, insert random reasoning in here. Yeah - just a little design note. uhmmmmm I thought the cross thing on Ed's head/helm was cool and I had the bright idea of like "hey what if I put the emblem like. through the cross yk" and I might not do that. But at the moment it looks cool to me. so yeah. I'M STILL TOYING WITH THINGS. . . I have to figure out what happens and designs and stuff. but yeah. I think that covers. what I have for now. p sick. scuttles away

Welcome to the second part of my Pit Babe novel commentary aka "hey this isn't so ba---wait where's Babe's sudden daddy kink even coming from??"
And I try (oh my god do I try). 🤡
I'm now at chapter 10, trying to pace myself because the (auto-translated) translation I'm reading is apparently a WIP. I'm on the edge of my seat. The plot is beginning to thicken.
Previously, Charlie was being sus and Babe was catching feelings, but most importantly there was a lot of pwp and very little racing.
Now there's more racing. Babe even brings Charlie (he still has to wear a mask and a hat) but gets too distracted by his presence (he's apparently addicting enough to kiss through the mask) and promptly forgets to check his car before the race (even though Charlie warns him against it but such is the power of scent - or lack of scent in this case. I don't even know anymore - neither does Babe but at some point Charlie states that's he's now in an alpha rut which I suppose means exactly what it says on the tin).
But, oh no! Babe runs into trouble during the race. He loses the lead and his car gets increasingly difficult to control until it crashes and bursts into flames. But it's okay, Babe jumps out of the driving car just in the nick of time (have you ever seen a supercar outfitted for racing? It's difficult enough to climb into one - funny how I'm apparently okay with omegaverse shenanigans but I draw the line at wonky motorsports physics 🤣).
Anyway, the track marshals are doing a really shit job because somehow they 1. let Charlie on the track to singlehandedly try and rescue Babe and 2. they also completely miss that Babe has literally jumped ship car and is lying on the track. He ends up with a broken wrist and a sprained knee (or was it the other way around? anyway, he's wearing several casts) which means he won't be able to finish the season and lose the title of King (all because he was too horny to check his car... but yeah also apparently it was sabotage  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ).
So much for the racing part.
Babe needs weeks to heal so naturally he needs Charlie to pamper and feed him and dick him down several times a day but what else is new. No offence to the the dicking down part but ugh I hate this trope. Maybe it's just because I dislike the dynamics but I don't like the way Babe is taking on more and more cliché omega traits. If I have to read one more time about how much smaller he is (or about his "rounded" hips... are you ok google translate?)...
Oh, and btw. There are omegas in this! Charlie gets flirted at by one (which Babe absolutely hates) and he does have a scent and all. Later, when Charlie is busy being extremely sus again he meets up with a childhood friend, Jeff (Pon's character in the series is called Jeff - oh. oh no...), and if I'm not mistaken he's an omega as well. Jeff cautions Charlie against being with Babe and displeasing his father (which also seems to be Jeff's father? Dude sure has a lots of adoptive kids...) but Charlie argues that he knows what he's doing and he doesn't want to stop anyway.
Later on he tells the exact same thing to his (adoptive?) father, and why do I get the feeling that this might be the same father Babe mentioned earlier when he was telling a feverish Charlie a story to get him to sleep:
In his story, Babe mentions how when he was very small he used to go hungry every day because his mum was out of the picture and his father didn't even make enough money bring food to the table. One day the hunger was so bad that he passed out and woke up in the hospital where a stranger told him he'd be his new family. With little choice in the matter, Babe accepted and went on to spend the rest of his childhood well-cared for and in elite schools etc. That is, until he turned (presumably...) 18 and discovered that his father didn't adopt him out of the kindness of his heart but for ulterior motives that Babe doesn't explain any further because at that point Charlie has fallen asleep.
So yeah, what are the odds that Babe's "father" and Charlie's father are the same person (no spoilers, please)? Because if so then... that's disturbing, especially since Charlie's father seems to want Charlie to lure Babe back home. I mean, Charlie seems to have his own plans but it's not like his father throws him out after their secret meeting. Sus, very sus.
Meanwhile, Babe is slowly losing his heightened senses (the novel doesn't mention it yet but I'm pretty sure this is Charlie's doing) but he doesn't seem to mind because he's too busy falling in love. There's a lovely scene where Charlie and he spend the night stargazing, and this is when Babe realises that something's different because usually his heart only beats this fast when he thinks about racing (lmao).
Cue to them not having sex for a week because Babe feels like he's going crazy.
Meanwhile, it's been decided that Charlie will finish Babe's racing season for him because ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ and I'm sure he'll win the title too because he's Charlie, alphaest of alphas. Or something.
So one night Babe officially introduces him to the rest of team X-Hunter (and curiously Sonic and North seem to be racers in the novel as well) but things go awry when Babe is too busy fooling around with Way (no you cannot be affectionate with a male friend in a BL novel it is forbidden!!). Charlie and Babe argue and proceed to ignore each other for the rest of the night until they make up (and out) during the official X-Hunter sleepover (with Way and another poor dude sleeping in the same room).
They're polite enough to seek out the indoor pool (this isn't even their house - have you no shame?) and talk it out. And by talk it out I mean there's an inappropriate amount of daddy-calling and Little Mermaid jokes. This is where Charlie claims Babe. Yes, there's knotting (I think? like I said, I'm not axactly an expert and auto-translate is a bit vague, bless its little AI heart). Charlie threatens (I'm sure it's all meant very lovingly 🤡) to impregnate Babe if there's no other way to show others that he's his. To which Babe replies that that's impossible anway.
It's impossible, right? Right??

Hi ^^
Could I request some headcanons with Omen, Yoru, Cypher [separate] that comfort crying reader?
Thanks <3
Omen, Yoru, Cypher comforting a crying reader
Warnings: short mentions of injuries and violence | Reader is GN
Tumblr media
ㅤㅤㅤㅤ ㅤㅤㅤㅤ ㅤㅤㅤㅤ ㅤ ㅤ˙·٠•●♥ Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ ♥●•٠
❝Omen:
At first you didn't even know he was there, in the shadows, watching you cry
It was when you felt a heavy blanket being gently placed around your shoulders that you realized you weren't alone.
He doesn't say much, but you know he's worried. The way his form shakes more than usual, he is very worried about you
Omen won't pressure you to tell what happened, but he would be happy to know.
If someone said something mean to you, he'll pretend he forgot for a while and one day, that person just disappears without leaving any trace of what happened.
If you accidentally hurt yourself, he will constantly remind you to pay more attention after that.
For now, he'll stay by your side if you want company. Literally by your side or hugging you if you prefer.
His cat will also join the two of you as well, just enjoying each other's presence.
He won't force you to be happy and go around doing things like nothing happened, sometimes people just want to be quiet and reflect a bit; but if you want to go somewhere, like go shopping, he'll make the effort to accompany you
It's a little funny to see this faceless figure, almost 2 meters tall, following you around the stores in a mall like a puppy, people are horrified
When you finally smiles again, you can hear a gentle "Hmmm.."
❝Yoru:
When he walked into the room and saw you crying, he froze
Fuck
What happened? You better tell him
He just doesn't know what to do to help you feel better.
Don't get me wrong, he cares about your feelings and loves you so much, but it's hard to translate that into words and actions.
Awkward pats on your head and rubbing his hands on your back, hoping it will comfort you in some way.
If someone said something mean to you..they’re going to regret that very badly later. Yoru it’s going to take care of that
If you hurt yourself, like bumping into the furniture or cutting your finger, please, be more careful, he gets worried
If you’re stressed about life n stuff, he can’t do a lot, but he will be there for you.
He might not be the best expressing his love and admiration, but he's amazing at listening, paying attention to every detail you talk about, and more often than not, being a strong pillar to help you stay confident
“Don't listen to that バカ*, you are amazing just the way you are.”
That’s the best you can get of him verbally, but he’s so sweet though
He takes you for a ride on his motorcycle all over the city. This helps him clear his mind when he's stressed, it should help you too.
He will not give up until your mood is better
*バカ - idiot
❝Cypher:
“Oh no, sweetheart! What happened?”
So sweet and soft with you
He is by your side in a second, already drying your tears with a tissue
Cypher loves you, that's why he subtly convinces you to tell him what happened, without lies or excuses.
If someone said something that made you sad. Oh..they're going to have ALL their information leaked for everyone to see and use.
If you end up accidentally hurting yourself, he'll give you a pretty big lecture about how you should take care of yourself and pay more attention to the things around you.
Anyway, his whole schedule is off for the rest of the day just to be with you.
Will make two cups of his most expensive tea just for you to share
Want to watch a movie? Say the name, in a few minutes he will have a copy on his computer.
Want to go online shopping? How convenient! The stores you love are suddenly on sale.
If you just want to be close without doing too much, yeah, he can do that too, anything that makes you happy.
Amir is an experienced man, he has been through a lot in his life, if you need any advice, about anything, he will try to help you as best he can.
when I said a lot, it's a lot. He's been through some pretty dark times in his life, he'll do everything he can to not see you the same way he did

I recently bought the jp volumes of Hellsing along with the guidebook, and since I'm reading the series in its native language for the first time I might as well share some random things that stood out to me in no particular order.
This isn't meant to be an analysis of translation differences, I'm too lazy for that. Also it's been 12 years since I've watched the anime and read the low quality fan scans of the manga so some of these comments are just "Lol, forgot this was a thing"
Volume 1
Tumblr media
... I really want to know who this guy is at the beginning, yelling at Alucard in overly familiar language to "Get your shit together!" and "You're the only one we can count on!!". We know from the style of speech that it's a dude, probably just some Hellsing rando, and maybe it's not all that strange since he has probably been working with the same soldiers for years--but it's still funny.
"I know, it's just so nice out :("
Tumblr media
..The way "HELLSING Organization" is spelled out like this reminds me that apparently the name is supposed to be an acronym. No really.
Tumblr media
...
Tumblr media
God they're so silly.
Now that I think about it, the only thing Seras has done this chapter since being turned into a vampire is say "I'm sorry" over and over.... girl you got shot in the lung, why are you apologizing
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Not a huge difference, but what Integra actually says here is "Leaving a corpse here for 20 years... You're a terrible person too, Father" and not "What were you thinking, Father?" as the Dark Horse translation suggests (note the lack of question mark in the raw version). I thought that might be of interest to some.
Something else I thought was interesting is the first line Alucard ever says to Integra, and how uncharacteristically polite he sounds.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
O-kega wa gozaimasenka- That's two honorific 御's back to back! (He even said them in kanji, even Walter isn’t that straightlaced and he’s literally the butler.) This is also the only time Alucard uses this overly flowery gentlemanly language with her, and good thing too because it would be so annoying if he spent the whole manga ending his sentences with ~gozaimasu.
What I'm trying to get at is, after seeing this sentence in the Japanese version, I'm like 100% sure he actually heard her when she was mumbling to herself about hoping to find a knight in shining armor, and he was totally going the extra mile in playing into that role for their first encounter. Which is kind of sweet.
Tumblr media
Lol they misspelled Alucard on the top left... or rather, they incorrectly spelled it right?
One would normally expect Alucard to be written アルカード, and indeed pixiv dict lists アーカード as a misspelling (the u sound is weak in Japanese, so it's easy to mishear arukādo as ākādo). Hirano was definitely aware of the correct spelling though, since he used it in the pilot chapter and in his old character sheets. It was only when the manga officially began that he switched to the アーカード spelling. I doubt it was because of copyright issues because there is already a long precedent of vampire characters named アルカード in various old manga, OVA, and games in Japan that have coexisted without issue (like this guy Hirano mentions in volume 1's afterword).
Most likely Hirano simply thought it looked better, or was a means of differentiating his character from the others somehow. It certainly makes life easier for Japanese fans searching for fanart since アーカード is only going to bring up Hellsing and not the Castlevania character.
Jan Valentine even pokes fun at the spelling discrepancy later in volume 2, but since there wasn't a good way of expressing this in English it was left untranslated.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Speaking of spelling inconsistencies, there's a lot of minor details I'm noticing now, like half the time the furigana for 吸血鬼 is written バンパイア and the other half it's ヴァンパイア... anyway)
Tumblr media
Um, just noticed literally everyone's wearing glasses What should I do
Hirano's habit of jotting random comments underneath his panels is one of the underrated perks of reading the manga
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Dark Horse translation almost makes it sound like she's looking forward to seeing this battle play out, while in the Japanese she simply sounds apprehensive. Almost as if she's worried about them? And she's going out on the field personally to make sure nothing bad happens? Aww
Ok this is a weird tangent, but I just noticed the scans of the Dark Horse version I've been looking at use a slightly larger image range than the Japanese version does. It was only noticeable when I got to this part:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The second image is what the Japanese version of the scan looks like and I can confirm that this is what it looks like in my physical volume as well. You shouldn't be seeing the messy borders of the inking on the bottom like that.
Tumblr media
Manga manuscripts are set up so that there are a few millimeters of bleed border around each page. You're supposed to color and line all the way up to (4) while keeping in mind that printing and paper cutting may result in the image being trimmed up to (3).
Either Hirano didn't color his lines all the way to (4) (this man has been drawing manga for years but this is Hirano we're talking about so it's very possible), or Dark Horse didn't honor the original bleed borders of the manuscript. I'm kind of leaning towards the former since there was a Hellsing exhibit in Japan a few years back where you could look at Hirano's original manuscripts and there's one where you can clearly see that he spilled a mug of tea or coffee across the entire page
Anyway, it's weird, and I'm curious to see if someone that owns a physical copy in English can confirm whether theirs actually looks like that. It's volume 1, page 141.

I think people in the fandom get confused with the stat charts, more specifically some have no idea what words means and it gave space to a lot of mischaracterization. First of all, wisdom is not equating to intelligence.
The definition of wisdom :
Tumblr media
While it is linked intelligence it is not the same thing at all. It is more close to knowledge, so with this in mind it's most likely to refer to the characters literal wisdom and/or their knowledge as someone staying in Eridia. Remember that knowledge is a currency there. It doesn't make Mhin stupid to have low wisdom. They are most likely the youngest of the bunch, AND an outsider so low wisdom makes perfect sense.
As funny as low wisdom Leander stat chart sounds, I have to reind you all he is a mage and magic is taught. He grew up in Eridia in a rich family and was meant to enter the Senobium. Do you really think he'd be low on wisdom ? I think not
Also on Kuras' low "empathy" stat : it doesn't make him devoid of morals, and it's stated in the description that he isn't going out there killing people nilly willy. He has a hard time understanding humans as an other-wordly being, nothing more nothing less.
I know media literacy is dying but please at least READ. Words have meaning, thank you
Edit : I know and understand some of us aren't native English speakers and sometimes gets a word's meaning wrong or lack vocabulary (I'm not an English native speaker for example) and that maybe not everyone of us double check or know where to look for accurate translations (Google translate sucks I know). But there is a difference between this point and my point being about media literacy and jumping to conclusions way too quickly.
Also because I don't gatekeep, what I use for single words translation are Word Reference and Reverso. They're good and have a handful of languages (tho from what I've seen it's mainly for Latin European based languages) ! Idk if there is other sites with more languages available tho, but if you look around there might be some !

This gentle-person right here made me revisit the Volume Covers.
What I didn't notice was Sae's crumbling chains:
Tumblr media
And am I being an overthinking again or there is some hidden meaning behind the crumbling chain and the golden chain part?
And his broken chain further made me do a quick search:
Tumblr media
"Chain of ignorance," fits well you know.
And this one articulates what I want(ed) to say even better:
Tumblr media
What is said above is exactly what happened if we take in the case of Hiori—he suddenly feels so changed you know. He was always shown as like a soft boy, but if we take a look at him after Ubers match, then we can clearly see how much free he seems.
So, it makes perfect sense to say that those chains and cuffs represent a thing which is holding back a player from achieving his true state—the concept of 'originality'.
And I want to add him again too:
Tumblr media
You see the number of chains?
Yes, four.
And you know what the number four represents in Japan?
Tumblr media
Don't take it in its literal meaning tho—I don't think Ego is chronically ill.
It could symbolise the death of his ego as a soccer player which stopped him from pursuing that career further.
Or it could be entirely something else.
One thing that even I overlooked was how Anri even got a hold of Ego in the first place.
If we were to glance at the very first chapter of the Manga, then we have this panel:
Tumblr media
"This is the indispensable coach...."
Coach...
???????????
Sometimes, during translation, meanings/words might change and I can't read Japanese, but if we were to accept that she did say coach, then the question still remains: How she got a hold of him?
Okay, suppose she used to be his fan or she randomly bumped into him or a series of event just made her meet him, but then another question arises: Why she wants Japan to win the World Cup so badly?
You know, we don't give her the credit, but she is the most mysterious character to be honest—we literally know nothing about her. I understand that there is nothing wrong in wanting your country to win in something, but the amount of efforts she is putting into achieving the dream of hers is commendable.
I just adore that Goddess. She is the backbone of Blue Lock. I love her so much.
.
.
.
I find it funny that Ego x Anri shippers, sometimes, say that he loves her romantically because he uses -chan honorfic, like come on, there's a limit of being a delulu too—Ego calls me Darling, but do I go around saying that I'm his wife? No, right? It's because I'm Noa's wife.
(it's sarcasm/joke if you are a bit slow. Don't attack me please.)

"ENGAGEMENT RING" WAS NOT SOME WAYWARD TRANSLATION BUT AN ACTUAL LINE IN THE JP MANGA?????? I always thought the reason some translations said, "engagement (ring)," where others used, "prenup," for Illumi and Hisoka's contract was because it was one translator's whim to cause chaos???? Like. It could be read as either of those, but was not necessarily the whole definition.
Tumblr media
(x)
But no, I've input the kanji into every translator I could find and they all said roughly the same thing—prenuptial contract. Meanwhile, the furigana (AKA the reading aid consisting of smaller kana printed either above or next to kanji or other characters to indicate their pronunciation), spelled out engagement ring.
I know this might be old news to some but I was today years old when I found out it was so literal????? Togashi really spelled it out in a way ensures we can't misunderstand yet somehow the implications still fly over a few people's heads???????
Idk about y'all but if I was an assassin born and raised on the ideology that an assassin does not need friends and some powerful magician mf just dallies around, telling every person he fights that he's my friend—I'd have killed him by now. I wouldn't trust him with my family secrets. I wouldn't do him any favors.
Or if I was a power-hungry fighter always striving to grow stronger, who grew up in the literal slums and betrays people left and right, I wouldn't put my trust on this pretty assassin either. Even if it's all just manipulations in the end, I wouldn't have any reason to call him, and only him, a friend. I wouldn't give him many, if not all, of my earthly possessions if I were to pass away—even if he isn't the one to kill me.
That's the thing about the contract too, Illumi gets his, "engagement ring," regardless of who kills Hisoka. Illumi's insured, whatever the outcome of this fight may be, so long as Hisoka dies. The funny thing about prenups is it could also be treated as a will of sorts—should one person die, I think it's more commonplace for prenups to include that all valuable assets be given to the widow by default??
Hisoka really did not need to do that, in order to hire Illumi???? Does this mean Hisoka knows and accepts the inevitability of his death on the Black Whale??? Or did his touch with death after fighting Chrollo open his eyes to the fact that he still needed a beneficiary, someone to take his belongings when he dies???? Either way, it's telling that he chose Illumi, of all people, to uphold this extremely important contract...
Anyways. Whether you wanna acknowledge it or not, Hisoka and Illumi have grown to become a pair in the Hunter X Hunter universe, have become the most unlikely, if not terrifying, friends and while the, "engagement ring," or the, "prenup," may not be explicitly romantic, the connotations and the possibilities are still there.
In conclusion, these insane mfs are gay and married, good for them!! 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍🌈

A post about the time Hawks made Kacchan really, really jealous.
When I watched this scene in the anime I found it amusing as hell. Kacchan’s behaviour felt kind of strange/off though, but after I saw the panelling of the scene in the manga recently, it only seems even more funny and bkdk driven. His behaviour also made more sense. I’ll breakdown the scene and go into some of Kacchan’s deeper issues after.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
They meet with Hawks after he helps them bring down villains. Izuku is star struck from the get-go and nervously greets the rank #2, who likewise recognises him from the sports festival.
Tumblr media
Hawks tells Izuku he's heard about him from Tokoyami... then backtracks and says, "No, actually... (even without that) I would have liked to have worked with you, too, but..."
Tumblr media
However, before he can finish explaining himself... he feels a "sakki", meaning bad feeling or literally "killing intent." (But the anime didn't show this part of their interaction! or how noticing the sakki interrupted Hawks' speech. So this is another one of those little flavourful nuances anime watchers(me) missed out on)
sakki (殺気  The individual kanji are pronounced satsu and ki, respectively, but due to Japanese grammar rules, the -tsu in the former is dropped and the consonant in ki is geminated, turning it into sa- + -kki.), which is primarily used by practitioners of Ninjutsu; "Killing Intent" is the most literal translation, with "Bloodlust" as a close second. The Chinese equivalent is sha qi - x
Which is kind of funny, considering Katsuki's soon to be revealed hero name which also had “Satsu” in it. Dai Baku Sasshin Dynamight. (Great Explosion Murder God Dynamight)
Tumblr media
Hawks turns to the source of the "sakki"... and it's Kacchan staring bloody murder at him, challenging him! After the stuff Hawks said, it feels like Kacchan is even more annoyed at Hawks for taking a special interest in Izuku, by saying he wanted to work with him (despite being so busy he left Tokoyami in the care of his sidekicks). I think in Kacchan's mind this means a scenario where Izuku would have been with Hawks at his hero nest instead of with Kacchan at Endeavour's agency... 👀 How territorial! I think Hawks also noticed something was off and taunts him, just for fun. 🤭
Also, this is only a funny coincidence, but after Hawks says something that feels like he's wanting to 'take Izuku away,' Kacchan just happens to say “About before, I got in faster than you." It could mean absolutely nothing, or it could be the slightest nuance for "I was here first. Deku's already been mine since childhood, so back off.” Like an inside joke Hori made for himself, knowing he was writing bkdk to become the main canon couple in the series.
I'm /hj ofc but… you never know! It's wild that Kacchan is even this hung up on what Hawks did in the first place, so I might be trying to make it make more sense! understandably, right?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When Hawks leaves, not only is Izuku swooning over him again... now Shouto is too! Kacchan can't stand it! I don't know about you, but if Kacchan's intense reaction is only that Hawks showed them up, it’s a severe case of the punishment not fitting the crime. Not to mention, it began when Hawks started chatting up Izuku about getting him to intern with him and got even worse because Izuku went full fanboy mode LOL
Tumblr media
Later at the agency he’s still filled with rage from their meeting, making up an insulting nickname for Hawks that can loosely be translated as “smiling birdbrain” (Hawks wears a carefree smile on his face and Katsuki doesn’t like it. He thinks he’s being smug - which he was, but only just a little… so again… punishment ≠ crime which is why we can theorise there was something more to his jealousy.)
Lmaooo listen. Think of a really possessive boyfriend who can’t stand their lover checking out other people and commenting on how attractive they are. And you've literally got how Kacchan feels about being a hero in front of Izuku.
Kacchan's gotten jealous like this before, when Shouto declared war on Izuku at the start of BNHA. That's how he got involved with the Todoroki family drama, because his jealousy drove him to follow them sneaking off alone together. And again in the third movie, at the very end, when Kacchan's boyfriend stayed back to say goodbye to Rody, and he glared at them the whole way going up the escalator lmao
Tumblr media
Jealous Katsuki "needs Izuku's attention on him always" Bakugou has three modes: “Why aren’t you looking only my way you shitty nerd.” “Forget this other bastard, what about me??? I’m ‘sugoi’ right?!!” and our fave (😂) “Just keep your eyes on me, shitty Deku!”
He responded with SO MUCH irritation at Hawks simply because Izuku’s fanboying over somebody that’s not him.
Poor Kacchan has to compete with all other heroes for Izuku’s affection because he’s an otaku that grew up worshipping all quirks. 😂
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Meet Katsuki Bakugou: From the age of four, he was told by family, doctors, teachers, hero loving society and the next door neighbour's cat that his quirk is the embodiment of excellence. What a guy! He will go far in life so we should let him do whatever he wants, it’s fine! He can be my sidekick! In a world where a person's character and value are measured by the power and usefulness of their quirk, Katsuki was the king.
Then there’s Kacchan: Grew up alongside this shiny doe eyed shitnerd who was always watching him, walking behind him, telling him stuff like he's sugoi and his quirk is so cool and he is so cool and wouldn’t it be cool if he also got a quirk as strong as his... And years later, Kacchan is (unsurprisingly) triggered that his Deku is reacting to everyone else and their ‘inferior’ quirks in almost the exact same way that he does with him. He has the biggest LOVE (ONLY!) ME DAMNIT vibes with Izuku! good lordt
Tumblr media
The main issue Katsuki encountered after entering U.A and the world of pro heroes, was suddenly not being the obvious choice for best anymore. His usual status of being society’s king was completely upended after his world opened up to people like Iida, Shoto, Enji and Hawks. Something that was so effortless to him before, now required a lot of hard work, if he was going to rise above even the outstanding.
And I think a big reason he feels insecure around other talented people is because a part of him will always want to stay the coolest and strongest in Izuku’s eyes! That’s why Izuku acknowledging others sets him off a little. He knows what Izuku’s like… but he still wants to be the coolest to him, unquestionably sugoi and stay Izuku’s #1.
Tumblr media
And sometimes it’s almost like, unless Izuku is the one doing the praising and fanboying Katsuki and only Katsuki, there's just no meaning to any of it for him.
** .•° ✿ °•. ❀。• *₊°。 ❀°。 ೋღ
It was only ever Izuku.
Growing up, surrounded by admiration from people who never dared to stand up to Katsuki... ultimately, it was only ever Izuku who valued his own set of principles and stood up to him when he was wrong. Because Izuku... was always honest with him, about everything. He let Katsuki know when he didn't approve of his behaviour, which meant the times Izuku did praise him was something that could be trusted. It didn't feel like the empty praise from everyone around him who only saw him for his quirk. It didn't feel like a lie.
Katsuki eventually realised the reason Izuku faced him was because Izuku genuinely cares. He saw all of him and despite intimately knowing his weaknesses and flaws not once did Izuku stop believing in him... so before Katsuki knew it, Izuku became the only person whose attention and approval actually meant something to him.
Can you blame him, though? Izuku’s the one who has been faithfully at Katsuki's side his entire life, sharing his dreams, believing in the best of him, gently encouraging him to do better than his worst, teaching him kindness of the heart and heroic sacrifice and finally… what it means to love someone so fiercely, you could give your everything and call it by their name.
Tumblr media
Katsuki’s forever hero who always comes running to save him, no matter what. His one and only constant. How could he not become completely intertwined with him and fall hopelessly in love?

I just realized that I forgot to send what I wrote to the translator, so I'm writing again .I really like the ideas of a dear with such poor eyesightthat she can hardly see beyond a couple of centimeters . This is very convenient for Yandere, because if she behaves badly, they just need to take off their glasses. + makes an escape attempt very difficult Sorry to write this again 😭
You're fine! I actually know like a very small amount of Russian so I was like trying to challenge myself to read without using Google and managed to recognize a few words which was fun 🤭
And that's literally me, I remember the first time I went to the eye doctor as a teen and tested my sight he was literally so baffled he outright asked me "how have you gotten by this long like this" 💀💀
---
Obviously the worst would be either Kaeya or Childe because they find your impairment very cute and will make your life all the worse for it. Taking your glasses away is not even so much as a means of control for Childe, he just genuinely finds it funny and endearing to watch you struggle. It's just one of many things he does to mess with you, along with putting things you need way out of your reach and hiding your stuff and making you do favors or say sweet (and embarrassing) things to him to get it back. Because it's less a control thing and more pure amusement, though, he's more likely to occasionally relent and give it back to you when you need it.
For Kaeya its both control and amusement, so the same is not true — in fact, he most likely outright throws them away for good. Anything you really need that your natural vision prevents, he can just do for you, and now you'll be forced to ask nicely. But he absolutely will do little things to mess with you.
Diluc just decides you've seen enough for one lifetime. Off they go. You wake up one day and they're not where you set them down and he just shrugs off any accusations from you, but doesn't deny them. It's actually a part of his borderline obsessive fixation with moulding you the perfect wife-y version of you he's constructed in his head. That version of you has no need for them. What do you need good vision for? Seeing things?? Looking at other people?? Navigating the world outside? None of these are approved activities. You don't really need great vision for cooking and cleaning and laying on your back with open legs and other more suitable things. You'll adjust just fine.
If you're farsighted and really want to read a book (which, as long as it's approved reading material, is fine, ideal even as it's a sedentary activity), you may ask very nicely and you may temporarily have them back. You can, however, "negotiate" with him by making it backfire on him, such as "accidentally" getting juice confused with rat poison you give to him. Do this sort of thing enough times and he may relent to let you have them a little bit more often... but still only with permission.
Albedo is actually similar to Childe and Kaeya in that he finds it amusing. He's just not as outwardly teasing about it, rather, he tends to quietly observe with a faint smirk watching you struggle. Him taking them away shouldn't really come as a surprise though, seeing as he's the worst candidate for limiting your capabilities in general. Like, having your glasses taken away actually kind of pales in comparison to being rendered permanently lame or having your entire body temporarily paralyzed when you're being mean to him. He already takes every conceivable opportunity to render you as helpless and dependent as possible, this is just another aspect of that, and the primary reason for doing so. Doesn't mean he doesn't also find it cute, though. He's just not going to outwardly say anything to belittle you about it... unless you're being bad, in which case, a few dry-humored jabs might be warranted.
But most surprisingly, Baizhu of all people has the audacity to use it to his advantage. Total betrayal from someone you would have thought understood Universal Glasses-Haver Solidarity. But perhaps that is why he does it, he knows just how inconvenient and limiting it can be, thereby viewing it as a fairly strong leverage in his favor. Besides, you did earn it when you tried to poison him. Have fun reading labels on the medicinal jars on high shelves now.
Should you ever bring up the inherent hypocrisy of keeping you deprived, he merely says it was a necessary act for your own well-being and his alike. He has a tendency to bounce back and forth between how strict he is — he has a soft spot for you and wants to be lenient and trusting, but his self-awareness of his own physical condition and potential weaknesses make him paranoid enough that once he's decided on something like that, he likely won't go back on the decision.

i’ve been thinking about haikyuu name meanings again, so i thought i’d share two of the name meanings that make me smile a lot :)))
木 boku - tree 兎 to - rabbit (?) 光 kou - shining, glory, pride 太郎 tarou - “great” son or first son 赤 aka - red, communism (??) 葦 ashi - reed (?) 京 kei - ten quadrillion; other readings (kyou, tokyo), capital city 治 ji - govern, regulate
so i’ve purposefully kept the direct kanji meanings, even tho most of them are simple and/or non sensical when applied to bokuto and akaashi’s character. but i've done so to replicate my own confusion and (hopefully) eventual satisfaction when i’d worked tho the many layers of word play.
so the first character of bokuto’s name 木 (tree) i originally thought was supposed to tie him to owls, yknow bc owls are often sitting in trees, and that might be part of it, but when 木 is used in adjectival constructions (so instead of ‘tree’ it might mean more ‘wooden’) and applied to people it often carries pejorative connotations of stupidity, close to the english ‘blockheaded’ - which i have to admit. did make me chuckle. (note: i thought there might be some connection between boku and boke the insult kags is always launching at hinata but they seem to be unrelated go figure)
兎 (to) was another confusing one, since ordinarily 兎 is the character for usagi (rabit), but when read as to there didn't seem to be any real mean associated with it, which is funny because most of the names in hq!! have more thought put into them then that. i was just about to write it off, when i looked up the two kanji together on wiktionary and-
木兎 mimizuko - alt. spelling for eagle/horned owl
Tumblr media Tumblr media
see above: eagle owl and bokuto koutarou for comparaison.
so basically in bokuto's name there is both a pun calling him a bit thick and a pun with the type of owl that inspired him how fucking incredible is that??? i personally love it
光太郎 (koutarou) seems to be a bit more of a traditional name, and we also have a very clear in-universe explanation for it's meaning. bokuto is the youngest of three with two older sisters, and it seems mr and mrs bokuto were very proud to finally have a son (ehhh patriarchy sucks sorry it is what it is) and wanted to give him a name that reflected their feelings. however, i do also think that 光 can also be taken to represent bokuto's presence in the series as a whole.
the first meaning of 光 being 'shining' obviously makes me think of the most bokuaka line in all of canon "we are the stars of the world" (ik some translations use protagonists in place of stars but shhh i'm being symbolic plus the vers i read used "stars"), because bokuto is such a star, he shines so brightly, and motivates so many people (the least of whom being akaashi and the rest of fukurodani). bokuto was always destined for glory and stardom in volleyball, but i think he's also just. so bright of a person. like yes, ofc he has his moods and his caprices, but that doesn't change how much he just, well, shines, brightens up a room. i don't know how much of this was intentional or accidental, but i like it.
~
like with bokuto's name, i ran into a bit of trouble with 赤葦 (akaashi) at first. literally, it means red reed, which didn't really seem significant. although 赤 (aka) also means 'red' as in 'communist' so now even tho it is certainly not at all the intended meaning i now and forever will headcanon akaashi as being a communist or someone at the very least well versed in communist theory. however, like with bokuto, akaashi's name is actually a reference to アカアシフクロウ (akaashi-fukuro) or アカアシモリフクロウ (akaashi-mori-fukuro), so another type of owl
Tumblr media Tumblr media
i've already talked about what i find so amusing about 京治 (keiji) in this post, but to summarise here (actually maybe this counts as an expansion?), the most relevant part to akaashi's character is the second kanji 治, meaning to govern or to regulate. 治 is sometimes used on it's own, but it is also often used in compounds related to peace, healing, (and politics, my commie akaashi headcanon wins again hahaha).
i think akaashi's character evolves from what it was intended to be, and i'm not sure how accurate this meaning is by the time we reach the end of canon (or maybe i've just been reading to much bokuaka fic and it's skewing my perception of him), but akaashi started out a bit like bokuto's external emotional regulator. for someone with as insane mood swings as bokuto, mood swings that other people struggled to understand and react to, he must have had quite a hard time, and indeed we're shown that his difficulties managing his emotions seriously and negatively affects his performance on the court. enter akaashi. akaashi, who through careful observation, quickly learns to not just react to bokuto's mood swings, but to understand them, their causes, and even eventually to anticipate them, effectively giving bokuto the tools he needs to learn to control his emotions and continue giving his all like akaashi knows he can.
i think it's relevant that 治 is also used to talk about healing and peace, (and not just governing which has rather unfortunate implications of control and coercion that i don't particularly like) because that is what akaashi's presence in bokuto's life ultimately provides, as evidenced by bokuto's growth by the end of the series ("hey look guys i'm just a normal ace!" meaning he's learned to manage his emotions by himself, something that i think would have been a much longer and harder journey without akaashi's influence).
when i said i'm not sure how accurate 治 is when applied to akaashi's character by the end of the series, i mean that i think it downplays the reciprocal nature of bokuto and akaashi's relationship, because for as much as akaashi helps bokuto manage his mood swings, bokuto also provides a lot of emotional support and motivation to akaashi. and i'm not sure this was something that furudate had already taken into account when first coming up with these characters.
i think there might be smaller symbolic meaning relating to akaashi's position as a setter, but that's really only a minor detail i think...
anyways, there you have it! bokuaka kanji meanings and thoughts!! do let me know if you have different interpretations, or if i've missed something, i really really reallyyyyy like talking about things like this but for now brb i am going to go read like a dozen bokuaka oneshots xx

Regarding your post about censorship: I'm like 90% sure most of this is not censorship (they left the entirety of buddy funny as it was. I refuse to believe "partner" is where they draw the line). I've played tons of Japanese video games in official English; the usual standard for translation is, in practice, that it shouldn't be obvious it wasn't originally written in English. Imo, this is the actual difference between "the miles i fell in love with is so cool!" (Not grammatically incorrect but not how actual people speak) and the official. As for it having romantic connotation to begin with, lol you said you got that from looking it up but Google the same thing in English and you will still get only romantic advice because it just assumes you're asking when the appropriate time to say I love you in a relationship is.... It could've been a joke, or a gay allegation, an anime way of speaking, or even nothing. How would you know which? I absolutely do not mean this in a rude way and I'm really sorry if it comes off like that but. I don't think you can comment on the connotations of words or level of casualness without speaking the language yourself.
Same with minoharu; it's (unfortunately) not canon. If she actually said "I love you!!" Regardless of dictionary definitions, it will be read as a romantic confession by most players, and you often say the game likes ambiguity so I take it that's a no. "I like you!" Is rather an awkward thing to yell in english, though. So "you're the best" is what they substitute.
(Please don't blame the translators for stuff this insignificant tbh. Some things in early game may sound clunky, but they've really smoothed out over time in terms of word choice sounding natural (...event names notwithstanding). I've done translations between my first language and English for fun; if you linger on every last word and it's connotations, you will go /insane/ reallyyy quickly. Imo no two words in different languages have the exact same meaning, connotation, use case etc. Ever. Differences of this level are utterly inevitable when games have so much text.)
Anyway. Thanks for all the effort you put into this blog, it's a fantastic one and it's not my intention to be harsh, if it comes off like that please just delete this ask. Don't feel bad about something some stranger on the internet said.
to be honest I don't think it's all censorship either, i just kinda went off on a tangent about things getting removed in translation and i did put in the post reasons why these translations actually are valid (aside from Toya woao because they did leave that one in the card name so it was a deliberate choice to remove it from the story, thereby also removing the reference in the card name). That Asahi post is old and I have done more research into it since, because my JP isn't good so I've gotta make up for it somehow, and literally every dictionary definition and anything I can find for that word frames it as romantic. For the extra mile I checked Japanese dictionaries for languages other than English. It is romantic. Even if he's just talking about the character and not Tsukasa, it is romantic and removing it was a deliberate choice. "The miles i fell in love with is so cool" might sound a bit rough, but it could have still been translated to keep the original context no problem. You could've just done something like "well of course it was cool. i fell in love with miles for a reason" or "it was so cool! as expected of the miles i love". the thing is with writing for a game like this is sometimes people need to say things that in real life you would probably just say in your head. the POV character for this event is Rui so we can't just take a look at the thoughts of the characters, which is why what they're feeling needs to be conveyed through text even if it sacrifices a bit of the realism. especially in a visual novel styled game like this because the characters are limited to a 2D model with limited movement and expression. if this was an anime you could probably get more leeway with what they say because you can convey the character's feelings through various other means (eg: the animated MVs that don't have any dialogue but could convey a story and emotion much better than looking at the in-game version of the scene with no dialogue). Don't worry I don't think you came off as rude and I know I shouldn't really talk about a language I don't speak but I hope the research can at least kind of make up for it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Minoharu isn't canon I know but it's very obvious that what Minori feels for Haruka goes into romantic territory, whether you like the ship or not. And sure, if you put "I love you" most people would probably read it as romantic by default, but that hasn't stopped the translators before. "You're the best" honestly is a valid localisation that still conveys pretty much the same meaning I just find it odd that "I love you" is removed here, a flashback scene from a point in time where minori and haruka didn't know each other, but is translated with accuracy in multiple interactions between An and Kohane in present day. If Minori and Haruka don't know each other it's slightly less likely that people will interpret it as romantic and slightly more likely that people will interpret it as a simple idolisation but with An an Kohane actually knowing each other and having a close and affectionate relationship the go-to is probably gonna be romantic (which isn't necessarily wrong considering the events of BFST and Wishing for Your Happiness, but still sticks out that they left this in here but change it for another couple with heavy romantic subtext).
I'm not blaming this on the translators, they're just doing their job and obviously with localisation you've gotta lose stuff, it's just that some of these are very specific things to cut (eg: any indication of Asahi feeling romantically towards Tsukasa's character and ambiguously Tsukasa himself is completely absent in the official translation). I'm blaming this on the higher ups at sega who get the final say on what is and isn't included in the translation. You can't translate everything directly because languages don't all work exactly the same, especially english and japanese. obviously due to these differences, you're not going to be able to translate everything directly and localisation is necessary (regardless of language) to make it accessible and easy to read for an audience outside the country of origin. but there are gonna be questions raised when a scene is localised to keep the same nuance as the original text aside from one line that removes notable queer subtext. because if they can keep the rest of toya's speech in line with the original but they specifically remove the part about him wanting to stay side-by-side with akito forever and change it to wanting to perform side-by-side, despite the fact they left in the "now on and always" part in his card name, that was removed from the story intentionally. they kept what asahi says to tsukasa with the same meaning as well, but any indication of asahi feeling romantically towards the other is completely gone. the issue is that sega seems to be intentionally removing queer subtext from the game.
don't worry anon this wasn't harsh, and localisation is something that actually interests me and i've read into quite a bit, so i enjoy the opportunity to talk about it. and thank you as well!

Notes on In Stars and Time Japanese Translation, from someone totally unqualified
Hi, I've been learning Japanese for like, 1.5 years and know a little bit but have mostly been muddling through the game with a dictionary to figure stuff out. Here's some fun stuff I've noticed in the dialogue in Dormont and a little of the dialogue in the House. (As you might have guessed, I will probably get some stuff wrong, so full disclaimer here)
Personal Pronouns
- Siffrin switches between two different pronouns-- when speaking aloud, he uses 僕 (boku), a casual masculine pronoun. In his internal dialogue he uses 自分 (jibun), which reads as a bit more distanced and reserved and is typically used by young men.
- Mirabelle uses 私 (watashi), the ‘default’ pronoun. Polite, could be read as feminine or a little formal among friends.
- Isabeau uses 俺 (ore), a casual masuline pronoun. Comes across as a little bit ‘tough guy’.
- Odile also uses 私 (watashi).
- Bonnie uses オイラ (oira), a casual masculine pronoun which has a ‘rural’ or ‘country’ vibe.
- I… think Loop uses 僕 (boku) as well? The pixel font is really hard to read for me so I’m like 60% sure.
Other Notes
- Odile doesn’t get a special honorific, they translated ‘Madame Odile’ into katakana :( I get why but I was hoping she would get a fun Academic honorific.
- I'm pretty sure Bonnie refers to Siffrin as ‘オマエ’ (omae) in Dormont, which is kind of a rude pronoun to use with someone older than you, but could also just be very familiar. Knowing Bonnie I think it’s probably a dig, though.
- The Running One refers to Siffrin as キミ, which has potentially an overly assuming energy to it hence the katakana. Most of the Dormont villagers seem to use きみ for Siffrin, which makes Dormont feel very friendly. Most of the party uses きみ for Siffrin too.
- Odile uses masculine grammatical forms, notably だろう(darou) and ending her sentences with ぞ (zo).
- The King is referred to as 王 (ou), which just means ‘king’, but it’s pronouned ‘ohh’, which I think is kind of funny considering…… the King….. ooohhhh….
- Siffrin refers to everyone by name instead of with a pronoun, as far as I've seen.
- Isabeau uses the particle な instead of ね, which feels a bit more tough and informal.
- Isabeau refers to the Favor Tree as ‘かっこい’ (kakkoi, ‘cool, stylish’) which I find kind of funny.
- Bonding is translated as ’人と人’ (hito to hito), literally ‘person and person’ which is really sweet.

So you think the Crown is correlated to the Golden Cap. Are you leaning to that making everyone the Winged Monkeys or that Qrow and Raven are pulling double duty parallel wise? Because what's biting at me is that Raven never actually says what Ozpin did to her and Qrow. She shows the bird form - which would be a classic loophole around "Don't tell anyone" orders. There's an incongruity with the narrative siding with Raven thematically in Oz keeping secrets and especially missing details
Before asking for agreement See Pyrrha and being targeted to become the Fall Maiden - and how the Bird Transformation by itself is swept under the rug quickly by Qrow and Oz. And Raven has no reason to not say more if there is more to say if she can that I can think of. Especially with her trying to convince Yang to stay with her/not sign on with Oz
so, the golden cap. cliff notes backstory:
there’s this princess-sorceress named gayelette whom everybody loves, regarded as a good sorceress who uses her magic to help people and never “to hurt anyone who was good,” but she’s sad and lonely because all the men are too stupid and ugly to be worthy of her
she finds a boy named quelala who is handsome and “wise beyond his years”
like literally a child
she decides she’s going to marry him when he grows up and takes him… to her palace… to raise him… (😬)
once he is old enough she “hastens to make everything ready for the wedding” (😬)
the day before the wedding, quelala goes for a walk along the river, dressed in finery. the king of the winged monkeys thinks it will be funny to drop him in the water
they do that
quelala is fine, he laughs and swims to the riverbank
as he’s climbing out of the water, gayelette comes running out and sees that his fine clothes are sopping wet
she FLIES INTO A RAGE AND ORDERS THE WINGED MONKEYS TO BE BOUND AND THROWN INTO THE RIVER TO DROWN
the king and quelala plead with her to be merciful, so at last she agrees to spare the winged monkeys if they allow her to bind them to the golden cap, which is quelala’s wedding present, as slaves
they accept this bargain because… what else can they do?
she continues to fly off the handle whenever she sees or thinks about the winged monkeys, so quelala uses the golden cap to order them to keep away (instead of hanging around to serve him) which they’re happy to do because they’re all terrified of her
quelala never uses the cap for anything else. after him it falls into the wicked witch’s hands, and she uses them to conquer winkie country. then dorothy brings it to glinda, who breaks the curse by giving it to the king of the winged monkeys.
the oz books are, you know, written for children and very lighthearted so it’s Not That Deep. (😬)
but rwby brought a shovel. (see also, glinda laying siege to the emerald city) so.
gayelette was “known” to be a good sorceress who didn’t use her magic to hurt “anyone who was good.” but (unlike most good witches in oz, and also unlike glinda who is regarded as neither good nor bad but right), her actions DO NOT match her reputation. she adopts a literal child and raises him to be her perfect husband. she is fully going to murder all the winged monkeys over a harmless bit of fun and only relents when they agree to be slaves and then continues to be so mad about it that the Literal Child she groomed to be her husband feels obliged to exile them for their own safety. the lady was a wicked witch who knew how to perform benevolence in public.
and then the golden cap itself grants the wearer three chances to command the winged monkeys to do anything, which the winged monkey are bound to obey. so just in terms of mechanics, the way it might be translated into rwby’s crown of choice is obvious. like the lamp’s question, you get three wishes. or three times you can compel people to do as you say, or make another person’s choices for them. whatever.
contextually, if the crown of choice is the golden cap, then the god of light slots into the role of gayelette and ozma is (loosely) quelala, the manipulated pawn to whom the enslaved winged monkeys are given. and the literal winged monkeys would be the spirits in the relics, although symbolically the winged monkeys here are all of humanity—gayelette’s ultimatum is “become slaves or die,” the god of light’s ultimatum is “obey me or die,” and like quelala, ozma is desperately interceding on mankind’s behalf via guiding them toward redemption, whereas salem like glinda thinks remnant ought to be freed.
it all tracks very neatly.
the wicked witch first uses the golden cap to conquer winkie country, and second to drive the wizard out of the west.
ozma wore the crown during the final battle of the great war, whereupon even his allies bent the knee in surrender. and when he and qrow explain the bird thing: qrow says “we made a choice, we wanted this,” and ozpin, “everyone has a choice. the branwens chose to accept their powers and the responsibilities that came with them, and later, one of them chose to abandon her duties in favor of her own self-interest. now, all of you have a choice.”
the wicked witch used her second wish to drive the wizard out of the west. ozpin gave the branwens the ability to turn into birds so they could act as scouts, spies, in service of his war against salem.
(for the sake of completeness i will note, also, that in the musical adaptation of wicked, the wizard tricks the witch into giving the monkeys wings so that he can use them as scouts and spies. this is the one [1] thing in rwby i think might be a nod to wicked.)
on the plain strength of the allusion argument and how many times ozpin reiterates “choice” once confronted on the bird thing i am convinced that the branwen shapeshifting actually derived from the crown, not ozpin, and that he used the second of his three wishes to grant it to them and just straight up lied about how. (if there is a hard “three wishes per person” limit on the crown and it doesn’t reset like the lamp, would explain why the claim of finite and dwindling magical power, which i Don’t Believe. he’s not running out of magic, but he only has one wish left.)
of course, if he pulled off secret use of a relic to do this that puts a practical limit on what he could do to compel them to silence (because if he did he’d have to come up with an explanation or else not tell them and hope they never noticed the magical binding on what they were allowed to say, because THAT would not go well for him). the danger inherent to becoming known as shapeshifters and that getting back to salem was probably enough on its own to keep them quiet. i think raven’s show-don’t-tell approach was motivated by knowing they weren’t going to believe her unless they saw it with their own eyes, sprinkled with a bit of hoping to get them interested enough to stay and hear her explanation rather than go to qrow.
what i think is most likely—given how ozpin frames it as the twins “chose to accept their powers and the responsibilities that came with them”—is that the birds were a “we can fill you in on the details once we know you’re with us” deal in the same vein as pyrrha. ozpin laid out that he could make them shapeshifters and needed a pair of scouts to gather information in preparation for a vague looming threat and only after they agreed and received this power did he explain the actual situation.
once they could turn into birds it would have been much harder to back out and his “finite, dwindling magic” is one hell of a manipulative trump card: he entrusted them with some of what precious little magic he has left because they promised him they could handle it, how can they even think about backing out now? the time to leave was before he gave them magic. never mind that they didn’t know what they were getting into because he didn’t tell them. they still made their choice.

IVE BEEN A GOOD KID AND IVE ACTUALLY LET MYSELF LIKE. THINK ABOUT THE OFFICIAL TRANSLATIONS SO. HERE WE GO BITCHES.
(Along with some other things bouncing around, implications of togachako because of this chapter, maybe even a prediction? This is my FINAL THOUGJTS POST, unless ofc I notice something and I say it BUT HOPEFULLY THIS IS THE LAST AND ITS JUST GONNA BE ME BEING SILLY AND POSTING FANART)
1, i find it funny that Caleb said lickitung than Pikachu since that… totally doesn’t make sense nor was why Twice suggested the name. IDK IM A POKÉMON NERD AND AN MHA FAN SO I JUST FIND IT A LITTLE SILLY.
Like I think Horikoshi chose Pikachu bc it’s the most recognizable Pokémon, along with Himiko’s “chu-chu” noises she makes when she drinks blood ofc, but it was also probably suggested bc… Pikachu has the same blushies that Ochako has…
Tumblr media
Not to mention the fact that Pikachu is also representative of Toga’s colors, those of course being red and yellow.
Tumblr media
Lickitung makes no sense other than the fact that it paralyzes people/Pokémon by licking them and making them uncomfortable. It’s such a… random gen 1 Pokémon idfk. I can see WHY he chose it, because lickitung is supposed to be a friendly Pokémon that accidentally makes people uncomfortable, but I think Pikachu being said instead just makes far more sense; Pikachu is supposed to be a cute Pokémon. It’s origins in gen 1 were, “I want you to make the cutest Pokémon you can” and the artist Atsuko Nisida had to go through 3-5 iterations of pixel art (bc they would make the pixelated version for the game first AND THEN draw the Pokémon from that) before finally settling on what people call “fat Pikachu” which looked like this
Tumblr media
Lickitung works ig by being a Pokémon that ultimately is harmless to people but just accidentally freaks people out and makes them off-put by them, but Pikachu fits much better in a chapter where Ochako calls Himiko’s smile, something we’re supposed to see as creepy, perfect/pretty/beautiful. Comparing her and her cuteness to something like Pikachu just seems like something twice would do anything bc he’s a sweetie like that.
ALSO ANOTHER THING FOR PEOPLE WHO KNOW NOTHING ABOUT POKÉMON: reguri is I think the most popular ship? That might be beat by Selena/ash and misty/ash, but regardless it’s super popular and also is EXTREMELY SIMILAR to bkdk.
This does depend on which version of them you’re talking about, but personally when I read pokespe (the most popular official Pokémon manga, there’s others but that’s just the most well known one) I always thought bkdk were so similar to red/blue to the point it was uncanny. At the time I thought “eh that’s just gay rival tropes there’s tons of other characters in other anime/manga/tv that are similar to them too” but after the mention OF Pikachu and Toga’s purposeful similarities I do wonder if horikoshi was a Pokémon fan in the 90’s during his childhood. That wouldn’t surprise me seeing as the games were such a booming success in Japan (literally it’s the most sold Pokémon games ever nothing has beat it since), so it would make sense if horikoshi was a secret Pokémon fan.
I mean, blues hair is even similar to bakugous but idk, maybe it’s a stretch.
Tumblr media
They’re not childhood friends in pokespe, but they are childhood friends in the games, blue bullying him as they got older and pushing red away, red goes and has an emo arc on mount silver by himself without telling anyone, eventually comes down from that mountain in black and white 2 where red and blue are starting to be friends again, and I don’t think they’re seen again until sun and moon where they’re on vacation together in alola. There’s other outside game content that has just… progressively gotten more gay.
AGAIN, IM NOT SURE IF HORIKOSHI HAS READ THE POKESPE MANGA OR IF HE PUT THIS MUCH THOUGHT INTO IT! However I WILL say that if you enjoy bkdk you will probably enjoy reguri and the pokespe manga, especially since it has a more interesting plot than the anime or games, along with being less corny. It’s a lot more… I don’t wanna say graphic but honest? It wasn’t really made in mind that it would be targeted overseas like all the other Pokémon stuff, so it’s just more honest about environmental issues and pet abuse and things like that. Red and blues character arcs and friendship, along with Leaf’s character arc is very interesting just by itself, highly recommend.
MOVING ON… my Pokémon nerdiness aside, I love Himiko’s defiance to conform to hero society especially as a villain. Will she go against this vow because she sees herself as a full fledged villain? I wasn’t really sure.
She didn’t, which is great, but I also think those themes of pity and feeling like Ochako is still looking down on her… remind me exactly of Katsuki.
I also find this page and what toga says quite interesting.
Tumblr media
Saying that she KNEW ochako was sad too, that’s a VERY interesting observation to make when thinking of someone you “hate”.
And I like the distinction that Ochako wasn’t afraid of Toga because of her smile being creepy, or that she was trying to harm her or tsu, but because she couldn’t understand why she was smiling during a fight.
Tumblr media
More bakugou vibes/lines
Tumblr media
If/when they ARE canon, explicitly and completely and all that, then that would make mha a, and idk if it’s the first, shonen GL + BL. That would be fucking crazy.
Tumblr media
ALSO THIS? THIS IS ABSOLUTELY NOT AN IZU//OCHA MOMENT… let me explain.
It’s a couple of things: Ochako is not explicitly saying how she wishes she could talk about her love with Izuku, instead it seems to be more framed as talking ABOUT Izuku.
He’s not even looking at her, and she’s not looking at him; no, instead Ochako and Himiko are looking at each other, and talking about the importance to talk about your feelings openly, how she admires that quality to Himiko.
In a way this is Ochako saying “No, don’t become like him, this is why I admire you. That trait makes you admirable, it’s a trait I love in you.”
Tumblr media
And lastly, that marriage proposal. Is it REALLY a marriage proposal? How romantic or platonic is this this scene?
Well, I went back and read chapter 348 to find out, and a little detail disregarded, not only by me but everyone else, was the line, “If you ask me, being a couple means being one and the same. Makes sense right? Nothing else… would fulfill my desires.”
Tumblr media
And then ochako in 393, purposely bearing her feelings to Himiko and offering her blood to her? Even with this knowledge? The knowledge that Himiko would see this as a confession? Fucking crazy.
For all her flaws, I can perfectly picture why Ochako would prefer someone who sees romance like she does, openly unapologetic about her feelings like she is, over someone who can’t even see a teenage girls confession as an actual confession of love. Way to be selfish Izuku.
(God he would be SO offended at all the shit talking I’ve been doing to him recently HAHA! BUT HE NEEDS TO HEAR IT BC HES AN IDIOT WHO SHOULD BE TAKING HIS FEELINGS SERIOUSLY. How are you going to let the hot headed blonde kid that bullied you be better at this. HOW.)
So yes, I think this is so explicitly romantic, I literally thought this scene would never fucking happen because I KNEW how gay it was, how gay everyone KNEW it was—but god damn. Horikoshi you mad man.

Ok that post I reblogged made me really think about Gamings localization and I try not to think about it too much buuut... English slang and phrases DO NOT mix with his character AT ALL.
I get why localizations happen but I also feel like sometimes they are kind of unnecessary and drift from how the character is meant to be. Sometimes the "equivalent" is so far off its unrecognizable and makes them seem like a whole different character
So I put the voice lines that really bothered me into the DeepL translator to see what the literal translation might be.
This is also just my opinion and not meant to cause drama. Personally I'm just not a fan of a lot of localizations and think they should only be used where absolutely necessary and should stick as closely to the translation as possible. Or just add a note explaining it. This is not a hate post, I really love Gaming. I just wanna make a post about it.
This will be in a couple parts
1. "When Thunder Strikes"
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Complete difference. No need to localize this? Perhaps it was too similar to other characters or its an incomplete portion of a phrase in Chinese that English players won't understand the reference to.
It does show his more energetic personality however I personally don't like the phrases used. I will admit it is funny.
2. "Good Evening"
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I feel like the literal translation " so if you're here, you cant eat it" makes sense just fine? Perhaps if people aren't used to reading things like that it could get confusing.
Its literally just "if you dont come with me you will really miss out" "you'll miss out on a great opportunity".
I just dont like the phrase "use it or snooze it" bleh
3. "Hometown"
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hoyo please remove "dope" from your vocabulary.
I dont mind "nibbles" too much but it wasn't even there in the first place?
4. "Chongyun"
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I actually really wanted to talk about this for a while not because of the "for real" but because of "heatiness" aka "Yeet Hay" which is mentioned alot since chenyu vale was released.
I am weirdly obsessed with this concept because it perfectly describes something I couldn't explain to other people about food and nobody seemed to understand. And I just love that it's getting mentioned in Genshin more because it's great and I wish others would learn about it.
First just get rid of the "for real"
Now the best way I've learned to describe "heatiness" is by trying to find an example the person im explaining it to may have experienced. If that makes sense. But this is a post so I can't do that.
You know when you've eaten a lot of it and for some foods it kinda coats your throat and you start feeling really weighed down and coughing more? Thats yeet hay. Its this feeling of discomfort and warmth.
Some time ago for a time I had quit drinking soda and started drinking more tea and felt a lot more energized. The soda made me feel really weighed down and I found that I stopped coughing so much after not drinking it for a while. Same with beef. Ive replaced most recipes that contain ground beef with ground turkey. Not only does turkey absorb flavor better its not nearly as greasy and is even softer than beef without fat. I really like it personally.
But learning to identify "Yeet Hay" foods and trying to consume them in moderation has improved my health and general wellbeing
Those are obvious examples but I don't eat a lot of seafood or tropical fruits so I can't tell you if they do anything. But I have noticed the effects of yeet hay and I do try to understand it because doing so has improved my life and how much I actually enjoy eating food I make.
You can learn more about it and "Hon Loeung" in this link
I think that website explains it pretty well. Even if you cant grasp it fully, you should still be able to understand that some food need to be eaten in moderation or it will affect your health. And anything to help you learn to identify those foods, i think, is good.
5. "Qiqi"
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Fuck "munchkin".
I think it's so cute for him to call QiQi "little sister". Forever mad at localizations that get rid of it and people that think referring to others as "aunty, older brother, little sister ect." Means they are family. American-centrism makes me mad in general but I digress.
I dont know why the chinese version is
一二七七…二二七七…
Yi er qi qi... Er er qi qi
Perhaps I'm not far enough in learning Chinese to understand it? Or maybe he is saying her name? But he says "qi qi" on the CN voice over. I wonder is this what Qiqi actually says? I dont know.
Also idk why it translated as "bu bu lu" but that sounds so cute.
Thats all the photos I can fit in this post so ill see you in the reblog

not trying to be rude at all, im a fan and a follower...but i didn't focus too much on yuri, just thought he was a background character, playing the same siscon role that almost every anime seems to have...sorry but can you give me a brief maybe? of your pov? cause most people seem to hate him
hey hey,, no my lovely it's completely okay, don't apologize :3
the central idea of yuri briar is that he's here just for comedic relief, and obviously, he's such a siscon and this and that, right?
and i don't blame people for thinking that in their minds, because of the way the animators and some of the writing board seem to set him up...
even endo, had said that, he just wanted yuri to be a sweet little brother people would adore, but the writers made him like this, and well, you know.
anyway, even with this personality, his character's backstory provides a lot of justification to his behavior,, like sure, at first he might seem like the comedic relief type of character, who's inappropriately in love with his sister, but actually, it's not like that at all...
in the anime, they've sort of butchered his character more,, from the changing of the lily bouquet for his sister to the rose one, and then obviously the little translation mistakes here and there.
now, let's just get to the point.
in the scene where yuri calls yor and talks about the party, he asks her if she wants him to introduce her to someone, and tbh he seems very genuine with it.
in the scene where he's meeting loid for the first time, he tells yor he can't just accept this marriage. which is so fair, because imagine your literal blood, someone you grew up with, the only person you've really ever known, gets married, and then doesn't tell you for an entire year. like, that's gotta make you upset and question things right?
i do agree, that his attachment and his admiration and obsession towards his sister is unhealthy, but hey, at least give him a second. understand his perspective right? he was just a boy, who lost both his parents to a war and grew up with his sister being the only one who went above and beyond to get him basic essentials.
and, obviously, you'd love your sibling if you were in this situation right?
so it's just that he's not really yet grasped how to normally love yor,, now this doesn't really mean that he loves her abnormally lol.
im sure that the writers will continue to develop his character as the manga continues. he's already developed a lot, and while the overly obsessed brother trope is quite funny and well-used, especially in this manga,, i still believe he has more of a personality then they show us.
and the only thing annoying is that people seem to judge him and then make posts about how he's just so creepy and weird,, which proves that they've obviously not paid enough attention to his character details to understand the reasons behind it yknow?
anyway.
