Detention with Umbridge

pairing: Ginny Weasley x Ravenclaw! reader

warning: my first fic so it probably sucks also im not sure how to add the “keep reading” button so sorry that it’ll take up like the whole screen

summary: reader gets detention with Umbridge and Ginny comforts them (sorry for the bad summary too)

U trudge down the hall to Defense Against the Dark Arts, making a point of not looking at anybody, especially your fellow Ravenclaws. Out of all the people who were doing bad in that class, why did Snape have to pick you to ridicule?!There were people doing even worse than you! His horrible voice still echoes in your head: “oh my lord, (y/n), what is this foul looking liquid?! I expected more from a Ravenclaw. 10 points from Ravenclaw for this horrible...thing.” His sneer, the cruel way he laughed, and worst of all, worse than the fact that your classmates were laughing at you, was that she was there to see it all. Her. Ginny Weasley. With her beautiful, crimson, fire colored hair, and her stunning freckles, she was the one you cared about and loved the most. Not to mention her laugh, which made you feel weak whenever you heard it. Everyone in your house who knew disapproved of your crush, it got in the way of studying, or Quidditch. “Who has time for a relationship when we have a 3 foot essay by Monday?” “Statiscally, it’s gonna fail anyway” sometimes you hated being so smart, because you had to face facts instead of being optimistic. “Hey, (y/n), wait up!” You’re jolted out of your thoughts by none other than Ginny’s voice. You turn around and it’s all you can do to not gape. Even though everyone wears basically the same robes and stuff, Ginny somehow manages to look amazing in them. Everything about her just seems to...shine. “Yeah Ginny?” You ask, trying to pass as nonchalant as to hide that anything’s wrong. Ginny however, sees through it. “Don’t act fine, y/n, what Snape did back there was bloody awful.” “Listen Ginny, I don’t want sympathy or pity. I probably deserved that. It was really bad.” Ginny looks like she might argue, but then just says, “Well, we both have that toad, Umbridge next, so want to walk together?” as you walk towards Umbridge's class, you warm up to each other and start talking about just random things. Quidditch, how horrible Umbridge is, what you think your O.W.L years are going to be like, etc. A few times your hands brushed up against each other, and it caused a chill to run up your spine. When you finally arrived at your class, it was normal for about 30 minutes. But about 30 minutes into the class, umbridge pulls out some sheets of parchment and says, “I thought you all might be getting a tiny bit bored with our daily schedule, so I decided to spice things up a bit with a pop quiz!” The entire class just looks at her in shock. One kid raises his hand. “Yes mr. Finnigan?” “Well, ms, it’s just that pop quizzes are more of a Muggle thing.” Seamus says. “Well how else would you test your knowledge?” She says, almost daring someone to speak back. “Oh I don’t know, maybe by actually doing the spells ourselves?” A voice says. Too late do you realize that voice is yours. “Sit down, (L/n), unless you want a detention.” Umbridge says menacingly, her eyes narrowing. Out of the corner of your eye, you see Ginny mouthing don't push it. But at this point getting in trouble is something you don’t care about so you say, “are worksheets going to stop Voldemort then?” “detention in my office at 8 tonight, (L/N), don't be late.” after class Ginny catches up with you. “Why did you have to land yourself in detention, (Y/N), and especially with Umbridge?” “I mean it can’t be that bad, it’s probably just lines or something.” “well they’re not ordinary lines, like have you seen Lee recently?” “are you trying to make me feel bad about my place on the social ladder?” you ask, sorta offended. “No, but he got detention with Umbridge the other day, and he came back with his hand bleeding profusely. He wouldn’t tell us exactly what happened, but his descriptions were pretty bad.” you sort of waved it off, saying you would be fine. “W-well, yeah, but i was kinda hoping to-” she caught herself halfway through her sentence and said, “I-I gotta head to class… so see you later.” see you later. She actually wanted to spend time with you. Snap out of it, you told yourself, she just likes you as a friend if at all, and she's not just doing this out of pity. The rest of the day passes uneventfully, and after dinner, you head to Umbridge's room to do your detention. You enter the room and almost run out again when you see it. It's full of weird cats and is pink everywhere. Umbridge, the fat ugly toad is sitting at her desk to your left. “Now, lets go over what your detention will contain.” you shudder, thinking about what Ginny told you about Lee. “you’re going to be doing lines, and you're going to write with a special quill of mine, so no ink is needed.”she says, a bit too happy for you to feel comfortable. “So, Ms. Umbridge, how long am I supposed to write these?” you ask, uncertain if you even want to know the answer. She smiles evilly. “Until the message… sinks in. you will be writing ‘I will not speak back.’ you may start.” you have barely begun when the pain starts. You had kinda put together what the detention would be, but you never imagined how bad the pain would be. But you just gritted your teeth and kept writing. After a bit over an hour, the blood was actually dripping onto the table. You hummed the song “Sucker for Pain” quietly while you thought about what you had done. All this just to impress some girl who would never like you back? All in all though, standing up to Umbridge felt really good, so maybe it was worth it. At 10:03 however, it was too much. Your wrist hurt from the writer's cramp and the words on the back of your hand were bleeding so much you let out an audible gasp mixed with a small cry of pain. Umbridge inspected your hand and said, “since it's only your first time, I’ll let you off with a warning.” you walk silently out into the hall, hand hurting like Satan had risen from the depths of hell and stabbed you just for fun. Surprisingly, Ginny is waiting outside. Her eyes brighten when she sees you, but then fill with concern at the sight of your bloody hand. “Oh god, (Y/N), this is even worse than Lee.” she says, grabbing your hand gingerly so as to not hurt it. And even though her touch is soft, it sends another chill up your spine. Every thought you had about her doing this out of pity leaves. You realize she might truly care. However, you know that actually being with her is never going to happen. For the second time today, you jolted out of your thoughts by Ginny saying, “let’s head over to Gryffindor Tower, I can get you fixed up there.” and before you realize what she was saying, she's grabbing your other hand and dragging you there. The Fat Lady looks at you and Ginny quizzically, then breaks into a knowing smirk. “Mimbulus mimbletonia, and not a word.” she says to the Fat Lady. as you enter the common room, you can hear her saying “Ah, young love.” and you can feel your face turn as red as Ginny's hair. She sits you down on a couch and comes back with Murtlap Essence and tells you to put your bleeding hand in it. You guys start talking a bit, (mostly about Umbridge) and slowly, your free hand and her hand move closer together. Before you knew it, you were holding hands, her head was resting on your shoulder, and your head slightly on hers. Her hand was soft but cold. When you realize what's happening you get startled and get flustered saying, “ O-oh, sorry, I didnt-I didnt mean to-” but you never finish because Ginny silences you with a kiss. It was a sweet kiss, one that made your insides feel warm. “I like you alot, (Y/N). I want you to know that.” “I… but out of all the lowly people, why me, the worst of them all?” Ginny giggles at this response. “that's just the thing, (Y/N), you're not.” She kisses you again, and when she pulls away she says, “there's a trip to Hogsmeade in a few days, would you like to go together?” “I would love to.” you say back, now beaming at her. “Well I gotta go to sleep now, (Y/N), Love you.” “Love you too, Ginny.”

Author’s note: First of all THANK YOU that really means a lot to me! Second of all I decided to not go for a certain religion because just as with the name things I want everyone to relate to this. I don’t want to limit it to certain things such as names for example. I hope you can understand that. Gifs aren’t mine. x

You knew that dating and Idol would come with getting some hate from ‘fans’. Even though the majority of the fandom would eventually warm up to the idea and accept it, there’s always some immature people who feel the need to tell you that you’re not worthy of dating him and that you should kill yourself. This happens in every fandom and you were prepared to get some hate, but you weren’t prepared for this. You always thought sending people you don’t even know hate just because they’re dating someone you like them as well was total bullshit and you still think that up to this day. But when every comment on your social media is filled with negativity it’s not hard to doubt yourself. Doubt if you’re indeed even worthy of dating him. Doubt if you’re indeed ugly and fat. And doubt if you shouldn’t just end it to get rid of all the hate.

Your boyfriend knew that you got hate and that really hurt him. However, he didn’t know what kind of hate you got. He thought it was just immature stuff like calling you fat and ugly but when he saw that his ‘fans’ told you that you should kill yourself he really started to worry and ran up to your room. Not even knocking on the door before opening it. When he saw you curled up underneath the covers, sobbing uncontrollably he felt his heart break into tiny little pieces.

Seokjin:

It would hurt Seokjin that people felt the need to send you hate. They judged your relationship based on what they saw not what it was like in reality. Besides, they didn’t even know you and the things they sent were just really immature stuff. However, Seokjin knew that getting a lot of hate for a certain period of time could really knock someone’s confidence. So he wasn’t surprised when he found you curled up underneath the covers in your bed. He sat down on the edge of the bed as he pulled the covers down enough to gently run his fingers through your hair. He loved his fans but he didn’t approve of them sending this immature stuff just because you were dating him. They didn’t even know you and he was sure that if they did, they’d love you. Seokjin moved you so your head was resting in his lap as he gently stroked your hair, trying to calm you down a little.

“I’ve read the comments baby. I know what they’re saying to you. Please know that they’re just jealous and that this is absolutely ridiculous. I love you and they should know that. If they feel the need to send you this type of stuff they’re not real fans. I’ll tell them what I think about it tomorrow, okay? Just please know that I’m here for you if you want to talk about it.”

“So you don’t agree with them?”

“Of course not Princess. You’re absolutely beautiful and I’ll love you no matter what.”

Yoongi:

Yoongi knew hate comments were a part of it and he got used to it after a while. He knew the haters were just jealous and immature people, but that didn’t mean their words didn’t hurt. Yoongi learned how to shrug them off over the years but you didn’t. You hadn’t gotten used to it and figured you never could get used to it. It just really hurt you that people would send you still like that just because you were dating Yoongi. So when you read that you should just go and kill yourself you cracked. You ran up to your room and hid under the covers, sobbing uncontrollably as you let all your sadness out. Yoongi’s heart broke at the sight of you looking so sad. He didn’t expect you to take it so badly so he climbed in bed with you and pulled you against him. Gently running his fingers through your hair as he pressed soft kisses all over your face, kissing away your tears.

“Why are you so sweet to me? Don’t you agree with them?”

“Of course not Jagi. They’re just immature people who think sending you hate will get me to break up with you, which isn’t gonna happen.”

You flashed him a soft smile as you nuzzled your face against his chest, wrapping your arms around him as he rested his chin on top of your head.

“I’ll never let go of you Jagiya, no matter how much hate they send. I love you.”

“I love you too Yoongi.”

Hoseok:

Tears filled Hoseok’s eyes as he saw you curled up underneath the sheets. He knew getting hate was hard, especially when people told you that you should just kill yourself. Hoseok wanted to make sure that you knew how special you were to him. So he wiped his tears before joining you in bed, straddling your waist and tickling your sides. You whined as you tried to push him off, which obviously didn’t work. You couldn’t help but laugh as he continued attacking your sides. Tickling had always been one of your weaknesses and he knew that. Hoseok felt a lot better seeing you smile and wiped your tears before pressing kisses to your cheeks. You giggled at the feeling as you stared up at him. Your eyes were still showing sadness but there was also another emotion visible, love.

“Y/N, I know it’s hard but please don’t listen to them. They really don’t know what they’re talking about.”

“How do you know that?”

“Because they don’t know you, or us.”

You sighed in defeat before letting your head fall back against the pillow. Hoseok moved to lay down on top of you as he gently brushed your hair out of your face.

“Maybe we can do a livestream tomorrow and talk to people about it. I think that could actually help and give people a clear image of what we’re really like together. It will probably stop some of the hate.”

“You think?” “I’m sure.”

“Okay, let’s do it.”

Namjoon:

As someone who’s dealt with a lot of hate himself he knew exactly how you were feeling. You know you should just get over it but when you get so much hate every single day it doesn’t take long before you start to believe that what they’re saying is actually true. What he didn’t understand however was why people told you to kill yourself. Was that really all because you were dating him? Namjoon didn’t even want to spend his time on immature people like that and instead focused on making you feel better. He knew you weren’t exactly confident and that this must have only made you more insecure than you already were. So when he saw you hiding underneath the covers he let out a deep sigh before lifting you out of bed. Namjoon knew that laying in bed the entire day would only make you more depressed than you already were.

So he took you downstairs and sat you down on the couch. He went to the kitchen to make some tea for you before he pulled you close and put on a nice movie. He knew he’d have to talk to you about this eventually but right now didn’t seem like a good time. You were very emotionally unstable and at this point he just wanted to make you feel better, not worse. Once the movie ended you felt a lot better and Namjoon knew that this was a good time to talk to you about it.

“Maybe I can talk in an interview about it and try to explain to the fans how much I love you? That way they might realize that sending you hate is just stupid and unnecessary.”

“You’d do that for me?”

“Of course baby. Anything to make you feel better. Besides I do not tolerate this kind of behavior from them. This is just crazy.”

Jimin:

Jimin knew exactly how you felt when he saw you laying underneath the sheets. People told him to lose weight and when he finally did they said that he should get abs again. It took him a long time to realize that it shouldn’t matter that those people thing, just as long as he’s happy with himself. But he also knew how hard it was to realize that when you got hate comments like that every single day. Let alone when you got hate comments saying that you should just end it. He didn’t understand why people felt the need to do that. If they knew what you were like they’d absolutely love you. He was sure about that. So Jimin tried to come up with a way to let the people know that they should stop sending hate and that he loved you very much.

Once you had calmed down from your breakdown he pulled you in your lap and snapped a cute photo of you two together before posting it on Twitter. He made sure to add that he loved you dearly and that the people should stop sending hate comments. Surprisingly it worked. After about 5 minutes Jimin saw nothing but love in the comments. A bright smile spread across his face as he showed you the tweets. You felt your heart warm at the sweet comments as happy tears spilled down your cheeks, making him chuckle.

“Jagiya! I’m trying to cheer you up and now you’re crying again!”

“I’m sorry! I’m just not used to people saying nice things about me and this is just really sweet. I love you Jimin. So much.”

“I love you too Y/N. You know that.”

Taehyung:

Taehyung took a deep breath before gently pushing your hair back and climbing on top of you. He removed the covers from your body so he could see you and pressed kisses all over your face and neck, making you giggle. Taehyung felt a lot better seeing you smile again but he knew he had to so something. He simply couldn’t handle seeing you like this more often. Especially when he coudl fix the problem. “I just want to say that I’m really happy with Y/N and it really hurts me that some people feel the need to send hate to her. I love her so much she doesn’t deserve this. She really is amazing and I wish people could see that.”

“You’re really happy with her aren’t you?” The interviewer asked, making Taehyung smile brightly. The others laughed at their friend’s behavior as they all looked at him with fond smiles on their faces.

“I definitely am. She means everything to me and despite all the hate she gets she still manages to see the good in people. I really do admire that in her.”

Jungkook would be hurt that people would sent you stuff like that. He simply didn’t understand why they’d hate on such a sweet and lovely girl like you. Was it really all because you were dating him? He just didn’t get it at all. It broke his heart when he saw you sobbing so he needed to come up with something to make it stop. Jungkook knew that you were in no rational state to talk to people so he sat down next to you, rested your head on his lap as he started Vlive. I HAVE TO WRITE SOMETHING DOWN ABOUT LAST NIGHTS EPISODE OF PRETTY LITTLE LIARS AND ALL THE EMISON OMG

I dont really know where to start cause words can not express how much last nights episode meant to me omg. So let’s start with the whole Alison is pregnant with Emily’s baby thing. When they actually made this canon in the previous episode I was feeling alot of emotions at once. I was happy because that would mean they would become mommies together, but the Paily kiss completely ruined it for me and made it seem like they were trying to force Emison back together. This episode however they perfectly portrayed what we had all been hoping for Emison when we were theorising about Em’s eggs being fertilised and used to impregnate Ali. We saw both of them really trying to listen to each other, understand eachother and basically acting like a maried couple. The love and the caring for one another couldn’t have been more obvious: The way that Emily kept feeling like she was not aloud to have a say in it because she didn’t want to put that kind of pressure on Ali, and the way that Ali eventually decided to keep the baby because Emily really wanted her to. Now I have to give the writers of this episode and especially Troian, for directing it, alot of credits for the way they portrayed Paige this episode. I hated Paige and have so since the beginning. I hated how she never showed any signs of big character development and idk I just couldn’t stand her. This episode however, she probably showed one of the biggest character development out of all the characters on Pretty Little Liars (apart from Alison but we’ll get to that later). She handled everything so very mature and respectfull towards both Emily and Alison. And when she sortof broke in to Alison’s house to show her remorse, I actually liked her. I also appreciate her asking whether Alison loves Emily (BECAUSE ALISON FINALLY ADMITTED IT BECAUSE OF THAT BUT ILL GET TO THAT LATER OMG) but because it shows that she just wants to check and make sure she leaves Emily in a safe environment. Now Alisons reaction to when Paige asked her whether she loves Emily is sO IMPORTANT OMG. At first you see how she immediatly shuts Paige out, and closes herself off. This just shows how afraid Alison is to let anyone come close and how little practice she has had with opening up. But after Paige stays kinda calm and touches the vulnurable spot in Alisons heart (the fact that Emily does love Alison and that might have made her so afraid and have her do such terrible things), she finally opens up fot the first time in 7 seasons. She was so increadibly vulnurable at that moment. And even though she did not say the words “yes, I love Emily”, she described exactly what it feels like to be in love. In her eyes and in her voice you can hear and see how afraid she is of these feelings, but you can also see a clear realisation: she now knows she does love Emily. And honestly Sasha did such a great fucking job in this scene omg. For me, Alison admitting her feelings for Emily is so important and I can not use enough words how much this scene meant to me. I cried like a baby the whole scene and mostly for the rest of the episode as well. When I first had the guts to admit to myself that I liked girls, Emily was the first and only representation of myself that I had yet seen or known. Emily and her whole coming out storyline plus the rest pf her storyline therefore hold a very special place in my heart. The fact that Emily found out she liked girls after realising she was in love with one of her best friends made me identify with her even more, since the exact same thing happened to me. This is also why Emison holds such a special place in my heart: wanted to see my story represented further and get a happy ending. Because I felt so represented by Emily, I also simoultaniously fell in love with Alison. And to be honest, Alison’s character development is by far the best one on this entire show, maybe even the best character development I have ever known. As Hanna Marin would say: “people change, they grow”. And boy did Alison grow into a better and more beautiful person! (And now we know she did it because sHE WANTED TO BE THE BETTER VERSION OF HERSELF THAT EMILY ALWAYS SEES IN HER SO SHOW IT OFF TO EMILY OMG) I also think it was very important for Alison to admit these feelings to Paige first. This was her first step to realising and admitting she is in love with Emily, and she knew Paige would not laugh at her or judge her because Paige feels the same way about Em (sometimes it was kinda hard to tell though but whtever). Everyone who is angry and sad that Ali should have admitted these feelings to Emily in person, Relax. She will, in time. A process like this, whether you wanna call it coming out or just admitting to yourself that you have been in love with someone for 10 years, takes time. Ali has never learned how to open op to somebody and to let someone truly get close, so she will do this step by step. I honestly hope that Emison gets a happy ending because both Emily and Alison deserve to finally be happy whilst loving eachother. And now Im gonna stop talking cause ive rambled alot and my fingers are hurting because im typing so agressively😂

Oh yes i can say this with certainty but the webcomic with my all-time favourite artwork by far is 榴花不及春 https://www.manmanapp.com/comic-1404769.html. it's not just that the art is beautiful but the way the artists create mood and tone is just jaw-dropping. I actually got chills a few times while reading it from the art alone and that's not something that i can recall happening when reading a lot of webcomics, or actually any fiction in general. there's such a elegance to the line weight and movement of the art that brings life to the characters. the artists' use of lighting adds such depth to the scenes, sometimes creating a warm and inviting atmosphere and other times a haunting and foreboding chill. the time i've spent with this comic is not something i'll soon forget(edited)

Cronaj (Whispers of the Past)

This is such a difficult question for me. Gahhh, so many pretty comics out there.... I guess, in regards to artwork alone, my favorite is the 2015 version of Countdown to Countdown by Vel. (https://tapas.io/series/Countdown) Just... such beautiful work. I'm a sucker for detailed painterly styles I will admit, but also the color and lighting is phenomenal. The way Vel sets up the mood with color and movement is amazing. The textures and brush strokes are simply gorgeous! Unfortunately, Vel rebooted the comic to a new style last year, and while it is still really gorgeous, I must admit, I don't like it nearly as much as the original. (What can I say? I have a bias for painterly styles.) Still highly recommend it! (https://tapas.io/series/CTC) I do want to point out some honorable mentions for me: * Ghostblade by WLOP (https://tapas.io/series/GhostBlade) - another painterly comic * The Sixth Dalai Lama by Ze Zhao (https://tapas.io/series/thesixthdalailama) - discontinued as far as I'm aware, but painted traditionally with watercolor! * Wind Rose by Sfera (https://www.webtoons.com/en/challenge/wind-rose/list?title_no=54306) - Painterly again (later on as the artist improved) but also great expressions I will say, I also love deliciously detailed lineart, but I don't see it a lot (especially in webcomics), and I cannot think of one right now :/(edited)

ahh ghost blade is a great choice @Cronaj (Whispers of the Past) and while i agree that countdown to countdown's new art isn't as sumptuous as it used to be for a comic it works better and the simpler art style allows vel to release at a more consistent rate without injuring herself so i really respect the change(edited)

I can't pick just one! But to start off I love the art of Lost Honey (https://www.losthoney.com/), everything about it is so soft, the linework, the colors the character designs, the panelling, it all has such a nice feel to it. The creator's use of color is sooo easy on the eyes, it fits so well with the comic. The linework has such a nice flow and movement, there is never a feeling of stiffness, it almost reminds me of water. Also I'm a complete sucker for traditionally drawn comics. Even though it's discontinued as far as I know, Thicker Than Blood also has really nice aesthetics! (https://tapas.io/series/Thicker-Than-Blood-), it has such a unique style almost like classical art mixed with glass. The designs are detailed yet highly stylized. The quality varied from time to time, given the amount of work that goes into them, but overall I really liked the look of this comic. Carciphona is another one I like aesthetically. (https://tapas.io/series/carciphona) The art of this one has improved immensely since it started, and while I'm not a fan of the look of the earlier pages, I'm loving how their work has evolved. The style is very Japanese inspired, there is a lot going on sometimes, but has its own unique look and is very well crafted. Also I love the action scenes, how they're handled makes the scenes look intense, sometimes grandiose.(edited)

Hands down it is Black Out Cityhttp://blackoutcity.ca/lvl10.php Jay does these amazing illustrative panels when they introduce a new chapter and it has me hooked on each update! The way that the title is incorporated within the panel is beautifully done, and their attention to detail and effective use of contrast is breath taking. Definitely a huge inspiration of mine! I also want to shout out to O'Sarilho by @Capitania do Azar . The palettes she uses are unique and dynamic, and the layouts read like the comic is animated (there's even animated parts in it!) the way she draws action and portrays horrific parts is phenomenal!https://sarilho.net/en/

Okay for me it's two webcomics One of them is Tracy JB's Lackadaisy https://www.webtoons.com/en/challenge/lackadaisy/list?title_no=39790&page=1 https://www.lackadaisycats.com/ Everything she does is wonderful; colour, expression, character, plot.....her art inspired me to embark on expression work. I remember being younger and being so inspired by her webcomic. Hands down can't find a flaw. The other one is Muted by anidoodles https://www.webtoons.com/en/supernatural/muted/list?title_no=1566 I was introduced to her from her Heather animatics on youtube. I love how her inking and cell shading is simple but VERY effective; the use of bold bright colours and watercolours was amazing. My art style is heavily inspired by hers and overall, I love how she captures people's attention with it.(edited)

Recently my favorite art and coloring style I've been inspired by are: - The Glass Scientists https://www.theglassscientists.com/ Some of the pages are well executed, I like the character designs, fantasy with alchemists, werewolves and more. Ghost Teller https://www.webtoons.com/en/horror/ghost-teller/list?title_no=1307 I enjoy QTT use of gradient coloring and spooky atmosphere, it looks like alot of time were used to make each strip. I like how the characters are linked to each story, it's not as spooky as more dramatic. They are all short stories Gourmet Hound: https://www.webtoons.com/en/drama/gourmet-hound/list?title_no=1245 When I think of slice of life with a soft pleasant color palette, this story comes in mind. The art is immensely detailed in ways that are relevant to the world and story, has beautiful color choices, beautiful compositions, amazing light effects, great backgrounds, and so on. And just overall the skill level is so high I'd need another 20 years experience with art to even be able to begin to point out a single flaw.

Gonna add this before this prompt changes. I think Oren's Forge has the best artwork I've ever seen done in a webcomic. Every panel has a setting that's so bold and pristine in color, layout, and background that it begs to be animated. Every color used paints a different mood to show character development and the style of the characters is so stylized and interesting to look at. Even the story is interesting enough that it gets you hooked and wondering what will happen next. A Midas List VC on the problem with the Midas List

Earlier this week, Forbes produced its annual Midas List, whichshowcases who the outlet believes to be the top investors in the world. Stuart Peterson of Artis Ventures was on the list very fardown, behind the many VCs whose refers are instant recognizable to founders, like Chris Sacca and Peter Fenton and Mary Meeker.

The way Peterson tells it, thats the way he likes it. Theres a intellect he didnt gave his appoint on the door 17 years ago when he left the hedge fund Cypress Funds in L.A. to open his own house in Silicon Valley. Im not crazy about being the center of attention. I never wanted to do this by myself. I think you can be successful if youre part of a successful team.

Certainly, Artis has assured its share of success. In one of its most remarkable copes, it invested in YouTube before the company sold to Google in 2006. A family connection seemingly helped. At the time, Artisemployed David Lamond, son of renowned VC Pierre Lamond, who invested 30 times with Sequoia Capital, another early YouTube investor.

SP: You had Zynga and Groupon and Twitter and all these seemingly overnight achievers that had raised very little capital and were producing enormous restores. We felt like maybe theres precisely one YouTube and now its time to move on.

TC: VCs surely would agree with you at this point. I dont envision a week moves withoutanother house jumping into biotech endowing .

SP: Trust me, if[ Benchmarks] Bill Gurley ran after these targeted therapeutics and he was successful, he would have asmuch liquidity as he could imagine. Sequoia is trying. Kleiner is trying. Either these conglomerates swivel or theyll disappear. They only wont be relevant.

TC: Youve money an display of firms from different industries. Are you saying youll merely do life science transactions now ?

SP: We look at everything. We preceded a $35 millionround in[ the networking companionship] Versa Networks. Were about to lead another round in a healthcare company thats in stealth and well probably create $35 million for them. We invest in about a dozen companies each year. But theres no authorization.
