Do you think you might ever open up an online shop for prints for people who can’t make it to conventions?

I've been wanting to open one for a while, I had plans to last year but they got shelved for a bit as I still had a lot left to figure out. One of the biggest hurdles I've been sorta kicking down the road is figuring out shipping, as it's never really been my strongest skill LOL Just the logistics of it all is kinda hard on the brain in addition to every other thing I'd have to setup. I know I can do it, it's just trying to get through that mental block of figuring it all out and getting it setup properly.

Other than that, I also have to make sure I have the proper equipment. I have a printer that's pretty decent, but I'm kind of in the market for something that's a bit more ink-friendly as the one I have currently chugs ink like I chug shorty's on a Friday afternoon LOL So I'm weighing my options when it comes to printing as it's a toss-up between "do my own printing so I can print on demand and not have more stock than I need" and "pay someone else to do my printing for me so I don't have to buy printer ink but potentially have to deal with bulk stock that I can't move". And that's not even getting into the manufacturing costs of my other products like my stickers and keychains - that's all stuff that I usually have to order in bulk, so I'd wanna make sure there's enough interest in buying them before I open a shop for them so I don't wind up with a bunch of unsold merch!

Needless to say, running an online shop is complicated and a ton of work! So I wanna make sure if and when I do open one, I do it right in a way that benefits both buyers and myself for the purpose of self-care :' ) I also wanna get out of the funk I'm currently in as creating standalone illustrations has admittedly gotten harder over the past couple years. Drawing comics is no problem because I have direction through the script, drawing illustrations from scratch on a blank canvas suddenly makes my brain short out @.@

But yeah! TL ; DR yes I would LOVE to open up an online shop for the folks who wanna buy my original art! It's in the works and I hope it's something I can bring to you all soon <3 <3

That being said:

MACHINE PICKS: - high end: bishop power wand packer ($1200 for full set, $649 on sale at kingpintattoosupply.com rn for the machine itself which would require purchasing a separate battery) - midrange: FK Irons spektra xion ($574 on painful pleasures, requires power supply or battery) - beginner: MAST archer ($179 on Amazon) Be aware that with this machine, the battery is rechargable but NOT replaceable, so if the battery dies, the machine dies. IMO not a big deal at $179 tho. You can also get coil machines from just about anywhere but they're less foolproof and you need to know how to tune and maintain them, and they aren't cordless so there's much more risk of dragging the clip cord through contaminated material which is gross and dangerous

POWER SUPPLIES: - Critical is kind of my go-to for everything. If you buy an RCA compatible machine, you would need a critical RCA Battery which comes in two configurations, the regular one gives you about 10 hours of running tattoo time and the shorty gives you 5.

BLACK/WHITE INK PICKS: - Allegory BLAK - Dynamic black - Empire white COLOR INK PICKS: - Electrum (flows nicely, doesn't crust over if left exposed to air in the ink cap for a long time) - SOLID Ink - (flows nicely, highly pigmented, haven't used this much) - Eternal ink (good all rounder but most of their opaque highly pigmented colors tend to go thick over time and do not flow easily)

you also need like at least some cursory drawing skill and the knowledge of how deep to go in skin to prevent blowouts and faint lines! There are lots of folks on youtube who can give you the rudimentary knowledge you need to get started, but the best way to get into tattooing professionally (if that's what your after) is to build up a portfolio of flash pieces that you feel best express your style, and to start getting tattooed at local shops by artists you like & respect.

Pac is the type I could trust to write anything and I know I'll absolutely love. Her advent fics, in particular, I especially adore. The writing is very visceral and I will not admit how many times I've reread these.

On The Book

I had not intended to bind any book/s for @renegadepublishing's binderary because of my hectic schedule, however FOMO won over and this book was born. It was a relatively quick design and typeset (I really do better under pressure lol). I wish I could say the same for when I started the actual binding though. This is the 8th book I’ve bound and I had expected it to go relatively smoothly, but this book fought me every step of the way and I'll indulge in expressing my distress on this post.

First, the print place I go to messed up my typeset, thus me having to travel back home to use our old crappy inkjet (that took 3 hours to print). And because said printer is crappy, I had to use 100gsm short grain to minimize show-through, and well, you can imagine how stick straight the pages are. Second, I made the case too small (I worked on the book after a toxic 12 hour lab day and was not in the right state) and instead of redoing the covers, I re-trimmed and repainted the fore edge (at cost of my lovely margins ..wails). Third & last, the vinyl refused! to stick to the cover and I proper burnt the HTV as well as my finger on my iron. In the book's defense, it was my first time using leather paper and I forgot to test their chemistry.

On The Bind

Everything else went swimmingly, aforementioned shit aside. I tried not to make this book scream Christmas and leaned into a more subtle theme through color choices. I finally got to use this lovely red leather paper from Itoya, which my parents bought me during their trip in Japan. Many thanks to @celestial-sphere-press for helping me out with the shops to visit!

The design cover was made on Illustrator. The words are actually the fic prompts which I arranged in concentric circles, inspired by the arrangement of the advent candles in our local church from years back. I have no idea what paper my print place used, but it has some nice pulp to it.

As I said, I melted the HTV and certain parts refused to stick, so I peeled all of it off, except for the spine title (which miraculously stuck) and used my foil quill pen instead. I used an off-brand one and it's really good!

I also did this sort of strip across the edge which I learned is called a "river" as Nic @bindsbymunchkin called it. The side near the spine though, looked asymmetrically empty, so I added the foiling. And as this is an anthology, the punctuations was a design choice to convey the start and end and pauses in-between stories (and mostly because they just look fancy lol).

Like my last bind, the edges are gold which is comprised of an undercoat of diluted dark gray Sakura acrylic paint and many layers of Liquitex iridescent gold acrylic ink.

Endbands are made with alternating colors of cream, gray, and gold DMC cotton threads, however I'm learning I don't very much like how sewn endbands look on small flatbacks.

The endpapers are my fave. I had already tipped in plain cream cardstock but then I was like: this book needs MARBLED PAPER! so I ripped off the one I had stuck and replaced it. It's actually not real marbled paper HAHA. I sourced it from this site, printed it on some heavy paper, and oh my god I believe the universe really meant for me to find this pattern because it coincidentally matched the colors of the endbands!!

On The Typeset

I wanted to keep things cohesive but also give each story its own character. Libre Baskerville was a lovely typeface to do that on.

For Les Pelerins, I wanted to mimic the silhouette of the establishments in Montmartre, hence the varying heights of the letters. If I wasn’t on a time crunch, I would’ve spent more time editing the headers but alas this is what we get. INLWIWY is more straightforward– a pinecone, which was a recurring theme in the story. And I think OTVOIB is my favorite. I drew tiny gold cracks onto the coal rock which is a significant element in the story. It still gives me that stomach flip whenever I reread it (iykyk).

your custom cassettes are really really cool! ive been thinking about making custom cassettes for a bit, would you be willing to share what kind of paper you used for the label stickers and j-cards? also where do you get blank cassettes from? ive been looking at cassettecomeback but i was wondering if there was a better option.

So full disclosure: I run a merch shop for my webcomic and I make most of my stuff myself in my studio. I've been doing this for the better part of ten years and over that time I've accumulated quite a bit of specialized, expensive equipment like the photo printer and cutting machine I use to make my cassette ephemera. THAT SAID mixtapes don't necessarily need all that!! Unless you're running a bootleg business on etsy or somethin I don't think you and your friends gotta run out and spend a ton of money to make these (beyond tracking down a deck and a player, obviously).

Unfortunately most of these items are found on Amazon because I'm a professional artist trying to Live, but if that's something you'd rather avoid buying through I'm listing the brick and mortar places I can find them when I need to for whatever reason!

My j-cards are just the 8x10 glossy photo paper from Pen & Gear, it's usually less than ten bucks a pack at walmart lmao. I use it with an inkjet photo printer! There are plenty of laser printer options out there though, which is probably the type non-artists have access to. Honestly I think the look of black ink on colored copy paper is super cool for handmade tapes, especially between friends.

My sticker paper was a bitch to find and I'm not sure if it would be useful without my specific equipment, but it's this glossy adhesive photo paper from some rando company called LDProducts. Literally just called "Sticker Photo Paper" pf. It's more expensive but I get it in stacks of a hundred because I print tons of stickers for my shop. Again, glossy adhesive paper might not be useful without a big boy printer but MATTE sticker paper is everywhere, that's also pretty common to find at walmart or at the very least at an office supply store; you can print on it or even get out some markers (not sure i'd suggest anything besides ink tho, I'd be worried it could come off and damage the player). I design the labels in clip studio and then load them into cricut so it's super easy to get the right shape every time, but if you're Determined you could get out a measuring tape and an xacto knife and get similar results.

I've only found my tapes on amazon unfortunately, and it's been a while since I bought any because I sort of inherited a bunch of sealed ones when my dad died and i'm still going through them lol. Almost all my custom ones are 90 minute Sony High Fidelity, last I checked you could order them in packs of five or ten but I'm not sure what the prices are like rn. If you REALLY want to get fancy with colored shells/custom lengths i did find this cool site you can order from, Duplication.ca, but the shipping is kinda rough. One of these days I wanna make some cassettes for my webcomic and I'll drop some money on some pretty ones then, but for now the Sonys are treating me fine so I haven't dug too deep.

I hope something in here is useful! I'm always happy to share what I know but again, I'm very fortunate to have access to quite a bit of stuff most people don't and I try to be up front about it alskdjf. Cassettes are best when they're sorta janky and handmade tho, it's kind of the whole point, and if they're just for you or someone you care about then marking them with a sharpie and masking tape is just as cool in my opinion. probably cooler. everybody should put music on physical media and trade it i think.

May Status Update

It’s May! well basically like an hour into it lol 😆, anyways I wanted to write an entry about stuff and the progress on my current commission batch!

I recently finished some notebooks I was working on since the beginning of this year, and I’m hoping to be able to sell them on Facebook maybe? I don’t intend to make too much with them since, they’re still far from very professional looking notebooks 😅, but I’m also wanting to invest on more supplies, and I’m taking notes as well to keep learning how to make these better!

I certainly learned a lot during the process of making these XD, I made a lot of mistakes as well lol 

Also, here you can see the 2 designs I did, I did another one but the printer ran out of ink and I couldn’t use it lol, (another thing I gotta invest in the future is inks or maybe a new printer lol) and you can see here my Cinch machine! 

honestly I’m super tired, I finished these today and I had to store all materials and such again... and ugh... I seriously NEED a shelf to put all these machines and supplies, every time I’m going to use them I gotta take them all out of boxes and they are all under more boxes...gotta put them on boxes again and put everything again in order next to my bed..it also doesn’t look all too nice in there, so I’m going to start seriously looking for shelves next month 😆 

Other thing I wanted to ramble about, I recently got into Inkblot!  it’s a new art site, it has like around 1 year I think?, it’s still in development but so far it’s been pretty alright, Here’s my site so far:

I’ve been wanting to use it to put all my commission art, I’ve finally catch up to last year’s work, so I can start posting this year work! I also want to put my other works here, kinda using it as a general gallery like the one I had with Deviant art.

There’s still so much I haven’t put here, but slowly filling with art! still doesn’t feel as my old DA’s gallery and sometimes the site loads pretty slowly, but I want to give it a chance since it’s still pretty new, I look forward to see how it evolves. the community part at least seems pretty chill so far! 

also has this very cool feature, where you can make comparisons!! it has a sort of thing that you move it and you can see the difference between both pictures. 

I’ll definitely still be using Tumblr for art gallery as well, I already have posted a lot of art here anyways lol, I’ve managed to organize a lot of my art with the tags as well, although I think I’ll also be separating commission art without background and with backgrounds, that way they are all not too mixed up! 

Oh also, I’ve learned about Neocities! recently people were talking about it on Twitter, and seems like a cool option for a personalized website! although may first have to learn more about html coding 😆

Neocities is an open source site, you can own a site here and customize it however you want, but you gotta do it from scratch! it’s honestly pretty cool, I think customization of Tumblr themes is pretty close to this,

but even so, if you check the sites from here just for fun, THEY ARE FANTASTIC! it’s like taking a look at internet in 2008, the customization value is so cool!

I personally find very fun the customization options like this, I may want to give this a try some day 😄

ficbinding: Chinese stitched binding

BINDING COMPLETED! of my own fic 翻雲覆日回天明 / Best Of. I chose this binding method because 1) Chinese, 2) easy, and 3) cheap. You know how much this fucker costs??

Text block (A4, 17 sheets of Nice™ paper): 105 NTD

Cover papers (2 sheets): 20 NTD

Embroidery floss: 25 NTD

Awl: 45 NTD

Glue: 35 NTD

Total: 230 NTD, which is not even 8 US dollars. I mean alright, there were other miscellaneous items needed like a ruler, a needle, a slab of wood for puncturing, and something to hit the awl with, but for the slab of wood I just used an old Daiso wood trivet and for the “mallet” I grabbed a rock and wrapped it in old underwear. There is the optional step of cutting the edges of the book, which I did here, that adds additional cutting pad & xacto knife costs. Also material costs are very low in Taiwan lol. BUT STILL.

Anyways progress pics & things I would do better under the cut:

I think this was 150 or 200p on the right, SO much thicker and funner to touch than crappy printer paper lmfao. Makes the book feel nice and hefty. Folded easier too.

Opted for two-hole ties when first securing the text block. I think it worked—kept the stack more tightly held together throughout the rest of the assembly. I used paper string and then pounded them as flat as I could on both sides before gluing them down.

First Mistake: starting immediately with the title page. Next time I layout the text I’m gonna put one half sheet in front because the cover has to glue onto something. I sandwiched the text block with printer paper, which was another mistake—you can see how shitty it is on the left compared to the page on the right. Next time, I’ll either leave one extra page on the front and back or use nicer end papers.

Second Mistake: fam, ,,,trimming is so hard ,, ,Okay no I got the hang of it more or less the second and third time around (and you only trim three sides), but the first time? in the immortal words of Bob the Drag Queen, mama that was garbage. Look:

...yeah guess which one’s the ugly triplet ;; Anyways it’s VERY IMPORTANT YOU STAND UP BEFORE YOU CUT. That’s the lesson I learned today. Also, if using 6-ply embroidery thread, the awl puncture holes don’t really give you enough room to double up when stitching the book together! I tried but ended up going back to binding with a single thread because the needle just stopped going through the holes at one point.

But anyways binding this was a workout and it was so much fun. I might get real ink and redo the label ‘cause it just ain’t quite right. But this is for real habit-forming. I wanna do so many more fics now.

2. Why do you regenerate ink faster in your ink? Is your ink tank like a sponge?

3. Why does walking in enemy ink damage you? Why doesn't it splat you?

4. Why doesn't the Slosher use more ink? The bucket needs a lot of ink to fill and you more or less empty it when you attack.

5. On a related note, how does the Splattershot Jr. have a bigger ink tank? Is it literally just a bigger ink tank?

Thanks for the questions! most of these are agonizing. Several of them are things i've been wondering about for literally years and they may be solvable, but you literally need to understand sciences to make some kind of good conclusions, likely chemistry... which I don't, lol.

If enemy ink hurts you, why doesn't ally ink? Technically, they are both foreign ink and could be harmful.

yeah. This is something that's genuinely annoying, lol. I think in the manga there actually is an instance of ally ink splatting somebody, but the manga also isn't canon-aligning (Inklings don't dissolve in water, for example), so it can't really be used as reputable reference in a lot of cases. If a liquid being "foreign" is enough to make it harmful, that SHOULD also make octolings and inklings incompatible with each other's inks BY DEFAULT given that they are completely different species and there's no way their inks are literally identical. but you know, game's got to work.

So we don't have an answer to how the ink even changes color in the first place. It's probably either chemical-based, OR it's chromatophore-based, like the Inklings' skin (which i have no clue how the hell that would work in a liquid that isn't really part of the body, and shouldn't be directly nervous system controlled like an organ). With it being chromatophore-based, it also makes very little sense that different colors of ink would be harmful to Inklings with other colors.

I had a stand-in theory for it before in which the reason being covered in enemy ink made you unable to battle was because the body automatically adjusts to whatever color of ink it's surrounded or coated in, which would make you the enemy color and obviously then you couldn't fight. But it's a flawed theory that not only doesn't take into account the actual physical effects being splatted has (although they could be worked in), but also ignores some holes in it like... a lot of other game mechanics that work around splatting in which a color change wouldn't really matter at all, not to mention it wouldn't explain why a teammate couldn't just shoot you again to get you back in action immediately. (Granted, my current theory shares some of these same problems, but there's a limit to how much sense you can make of splatting without it becoming paranormal.)

The more sensible answer would be that the ink color changes are chemical-based, which would make all ink colors roughly the same chemical makeup based on which color-aligned chemicals and bits are metabolically smart to manufacture by a cephalopod en masse. Of course, I have zero ideas on what those chemicals would be, and it's most likely that the ink colors would be mixed from different quantities of a few separate colors, much like a printer. Different chemical makeups would make sense for why enemy ink is a foreign liquid as opposed to ally ink, which in being the same (or an extremely similar) color would be extremely similar to your own ink. I'd like to think ink colors that are further from each other would have a much stronger reaction against others, which is one of the reasons turf war team colors tend to be starkly different. If you had a fight between Light Blue and Cyan, for example, the colors might be so similar that no one ever got splatted unless hit REALLY HARD with a ton of ink at once.

(The most sensible explanation for the colors and effects would be that different colors are in very different parts on a pH scale, but that would mean some ink colors would be a biohazard and others would be highly corrosive acids that would just obliterate everything and ink is clearly neither of those. It has been stated to be safe to even drink, which pH 2> acid usually isn't.)

So basically this part of the ask got really long without answering much of anything yet. I honestly don't have any solid answers for this question, lol. I wish we got word on it! Moving on...

2. Why do you regenerate ink faster in your ink? I think this one goes hand in hand with my reasoning on why Inklings have very porous skin. The short answer is that they're able to absorb ink from their environment back into their bodies while in swim form, and in this case the environment is of course the floor. So their bodies are basically a sponge, and it is very likely that being in swim form, especially being IN ink, stimulates their bodies to produce ink faster. Of course, the layer of ink on the ground is typically not much, but ink is thick enough that there will be some color left even if you pass by and absorb half of it back.

3. Why does walking in enemy ink damage you? Why doesn't it splat you?

Okay this has always been really annoying. Your player inkling really hates being in enemy ink. LOATHES it even, they are literally in Physical Pain TRUDGING through that ink. The ink is STICKY and it HURTS and it's like you're going across a fucking swamp. How much of that is gameplay and how much of that is real?

Bestie, you literally have SHOES ON in the game. Point 1 of why it has always frustrated and confused me that you take damage in enemy ink. You literally have shoes on, it's not in contact with your BODY. The best assumption I've been able to make is that different colors of ink stick to each other, whereas similar ink colors mesh with each other and have no such issue. Which is why you're able to slide on ink of your own color, but not enemy ink - it just trips you up because your body is coated in ANOTHER ink color, which sticks like glue.

As for why walking through enemy ink sucks? My best guess is that your character's shoes are usually coated in your team's ink, so when you walk onto enemy ink it's like you just walked into a vat of glue. The downside is that logically, walking back from enemy ink to your own ink should then have the same effect, but I'm not going to be too much of a stickler about it because this is just trying to make in-universe sense of nonsense game mechanics right now.

Still haven't touched on the ink literally damaging you though. I'm just ignoring that as being a game mechanic, because again, your BODY is not in physical contact with the ink - just your shoes are (unless you're not wearing any). Running around in enemy ink you might get tiny splatters on yourself but that shouldn't really add up unless you're doing so for a really long time. If anything, Inklings might just become very distressed in enemy ink as they've just entered Glue Zone and that's something that heavily limits your movement options (which is scary). So that might make them less stable overall, making them easier to splat?

4. Why doesn't the Slosher use more ink?

Okay but this one. seriously, this leads into a discussion about the ink economics of a lot of weapons being COMPLETELY unsustainable, lol.

This is the Slosher. Look at the size of that thing and how much ink is hurled out in ONE SINGLE SWING. If we were being real, with a container that's like the same volume as an Inkling's whole torso, that should be at least half the ink sac GONE in like one swing and that's assuming the ink in the ink sac is extremely pressurized.

But this is a game and their ink producing abilities being grossly unrealistic is something that's necessary for gameplay so there's like not much you can do about it. My best justification for weapons that take up way too much ink (mostly heavy weapons, ESPECIALLY the Hydra and E-Liter) is that the ink is insanely compressed in the ink sac of an Inkling, and weapons have technology that thins the ink out by a LOT, so whenever bullets are fired it's actually a very small amount of ink stretched out to achieve a lot more than it normally would. We know that ink oxidizes, expands and even explodes in contact to air (bombs, Blasters), so using ink to thin it out and still end up with a lot of usable bullets could work.

Also, in terms of some weapons, I think some of their balancing wouldn't exist in the game world. For example, the slosher is a 2-shot-splat, but in-universe you CANNOT tell me that just one swing wouldn't be enough to splat like 80% of the time. A lot of the balancing definitely doesn't exist in-universe with the battles itself also having a lot more chaos and other elements going on, such as weather conditions, wind, shot deviation, inherent changes in weapon performance based on how beat up it is (Inkbrush is a very good example with the tube that needs to be replaced often). Basically the Slosher might realistically consume way more ink than it does in the game, but it would also be stronger as a result...

Oh, or the devs could drop the info that the Splatoon world is using infinite ink technology in some of the gear and that's how there's so much ink everywhere all the time, like how the Ink Tank magically refills from the bottom and Steel Eels have infinite fish slime fountains or Flooders have infinite ink or Spreaders have infinite ink or Spawn Points... you get the picture. Probably not, I honestly HOPE NOT because that would result in a lot more questions about why the Splatoon world is so archaic (ON OUR LEVEL PRETTY MUCH) if they have insane world and physics-defying science. But it WOULD make my job a whole lot easier when trying to justify how you'd even produce enough ink in 6 seconds to swing a Dynamo Again.

5. On a related note, how does the Splattershot Jr. have a bigger ink tank? Is it literally just a bigger ink tank?

....yes! Well, it wasn't in the beginning of Splatoon 2's life cycle, and I honestly don't know (or really care) if it still has an increased ink tank. But some time throughout Splatoon 2's life, when Splattershot Jr was given a bigger ink tank, it literally WAS GIVEN A BIGGER TANK.

To my knowledge, it doesn't have this baby bottle tank anymore, but yes, the change is literally physical. And yes I think from a gameplay perspective this was like the dumbest thing they ever did because it gave birth to some of the most annoying weapon gimmicks ever to exist on this planet and if it was intended to help new players, they should've just made this tank something that's exclusive to like, players from Level 1 to Level 10, applied regardless of weapon... or something. Instead of giving one weapon infinite freaking bombs.

But TL;DR yes, the Splattershot Jr. has a bigger ink tank, physically!

Half scale paper test for Pochita :D

Ended up roughly double the sculpt haha. I made the front leg a bit wider but overall I think the pattern is good to move forward!

I have the first tests for all the embroidery files set and the pattern is 90% ready to print. Just polishing up some bits and changing some templates to match what I'll actually cut out for embroidery (for more consistent placement the face pieces will be cut larger for ex. and then the actual piece outline is part of the embroidery file) plus my printer has no colour ink rn so I'm just making the pattern black and white friendly lol. Some lighter areas when I chose to convert the colour version to greyscale just.. decided not to print 💀

Plan to test the legs in fabric first to make sure they have the shapes I need when stuffed and then it will be on to the full test!

Artemis sat, slouched, over his desk in his darkened study, lit only by the harsh, biting light of the computer monitor. He rattled out a cough before sighing, and rubbing his temples. He was working on a project with Foaly. Foaly would have said that Artemis was working for him, and Artemis that Foaly was working for him. Both were reluctant to admit their mutual respect for the other.  

The light of the computer screen began to bite at Artemis’ eyes, making reading the calculations upon it almost impossible. So, he reached out towards his stack of printer paper, and began to write down his ideas. They came out in a near incomprehensible scrawl.  

The discarded packets of Lemsips and many a cough sweet had done little to lessen the insistent pounding of his headache, like his skull was holding his brain prisoner and it was trying to break out. Yet again, Artemis reached up and began to massage the headache away, which did nothing, but the acknowledgment of the pain was appreciated by his body. The action also led to a smear of ink staining itself across his forehead.  

Something about the number 4 lol ig 

Artemis stared at the page, willing himself to be able to concentrate for just a little bit longer, just enough to make this work. All the numbers on the page swirled together in an intricate pattern of meaninglessness and then a sea of fours. Shortly after he began inventing new numbers in his head as a result of slight deliriousness, he inched closer to the desk, before slumping into a rather uncomfortable sleep.  

In the black abyss of sleeping, numbers and calculations were unwanted interruptions of streaks of colour as if the screen he had been staring at in his waking areas had bleached itself into his brain.  

A few hours later, it was Juliet who found him, he looked freezing and frankly uncomfortable. But Juliet decided against waking him up because she knew that he was guaranteed to be frustratingly stubborn about going back to sleep in a more conventional and comfortable manner. Not that Artemis Fowl was especially known for being either.  

Instead, she opted to drape a blanket around him, and went to find Butler who, less afraid of the stubborn nature of Artemis, picked him up and carefully maneuvered him to the bed. They also left a glass of water on his bedside, hoping it would encourage him to sit and look after himself for a while longer.

Artemis woke to the tone of a communicator he shared with Foaly. There wasn’t meant to be any communication between him, and well anyone else below ground, but the needs of the project had felt like they could work around it. Artemis now regretted this. He coughed and picked up. 

“Foaly?” it came out as more of a crunchy croak than a composed young man but it was the best he could do. 

“Mud-boy! Have you finished your calculations? I got all the materials we need, and made some fun things whilst I wait for you. But you didn't send anything over last night.” 

Crap. Artemis could almost hear the ticked off flicking of Foaly’s tail. Last night. That’s why he had been so insistent on staying up. If only it was finished, Artemis could have stayed asleep. 

Artemis cleared his throat, “right, yes. I’ll send them ov-” He was cut off by his own tumble into the floor after both trying and failing to stealthily go to his computer. Cursing he used the bed to pull himself upright and then into his desk chair.  

“What was that?” 

“Mud-boy, you, okay?” Holly’s voice, her tone was mostly joking but there was a healthy smattering of concern in there. 

“I’m fine,” Artemis said, not risking a more detailed response giving his current weakness away whilst typing a meticulously pedantic password. 

“You most certainly are not!” exclaimed Butler, who having heard the commotion made his way into the room, “Artemis get back in bed, they can figure this out later you need rest.” 

“But I need to finish this, we’re so close to getting a func-” 

“If you’re all really so desperate then Short can get up here and give you some healing, in the meantime, back to resting,” Butler stated curtly, ending the call with the others. 

Butler had brought some breakfast for Artemis, who was reluctantly relieved to have a proper break from the project which had started to become rather all consuming. 

“Thank you, Butler,” he said, “it can wait, I’m sure they will understand.”

“Ugh humans, so inconsistent” complained Foaly. 

“Butler's right though, I can just go topside and fix him, it is my day off,” said Holly, the thought of getting the freedom to fly being enough of a reason without the benefit of helping Artemis – not to mention having to listen to Foaly go on about how inconvenienced he was by the delay. 

“Well we probably should make sure he’s okay” 

…. 

“Arty, Arty!” exclaimed Beckett as he barreled into the room, “look what we made you” 

Myles followed him with a cup of hot chocolate, Beckett not yet entirely trusted with hot liquids. This led to Artemis propping himself upright and sitting with the twins. One sat on either side, ad Artemis realised he hadn’t been as available as he maybe would have liked. As they sat there, Myles excitedly rattled off an impressive – yet also slightly intimidating – list of his most recent experiments. Meanwhile, Becket tried to guess their outcomes, which he wanted to be explosions. Originally these explosions were hand gestures, but this slowly became hm being more and mor fidgety until each prediction of a fireball became a delighted star jump. 

Although spending time like this was exhausting in his current state, Artemis couldn't help but smile at the antics of his brothers and the time spent without feeling guilty for being way from numerous projects. 

“We’re sorry for getting you sick arty,” said Beckett, referring to how both the twins had been ill the week before.  

Artemis sighed and ruffled his younger brother’s hair, “that’s not your fault, everyone gets sick sometimes. I'm just glad you're both okay now. But I might need some more sleep now Beck,” added Artemis, spotting a slight shimmer near the door. 

“Okay arty” Beckett said. Both boys hugged Artemis before leaving the room. The door closed quietly behind them. 

“Hello Holly” 

Holly fizzled into view, “you look great” she said, a slight curl to her lips as she regarded the disheveled Artemis in front of her. He was paler than usual, with his black hair sticking with sweat in some places, even though as she placed her hand on his, he was cold. 

Now familiar blue sparks danced from her fingertips and across Artemis, targeting his chest and throat and calming the pounding in his head. The thinly veiled mask that had been hiding the pain disappeared as he relaxed properly, no longer having anything to hide.  

“Now, I know technically you’re better. But don’t do anything for foaly until tomorrow. You guys looked like you were having a nice time. You shouldn’t have to be bedbound just for that to happen” 

“Thanks Holly. You didn’t have to come all the way out here”

Also I hate shipping merch, i dont like drawing chibis for charms/stickers and theres no good way to mail posters... it’s easier to ship books at least domestically through media mail. BUT formatting books is kind of tedious I have a hard time even arranging my art into photosets yet alone books. I make more fanart than original art but I need to make a LOT of fanart for a specific fandom before a book feels worth it and idk how I feel about making a multifandom book. And printing them is tough. I don’t like using online printing services but I’ve been moving too often to have a local printer I go to for books.. Final thoughts on this season and the characters:

Carol felt useless and needs a hobby other than telling Gary what to do. I'm honestly sad that her character is feeling flat. I don't exactly know how they CAN fix it as Mrs Claus is very in the background as a whole in the holiday.

Fluffy felt like an unneeded character. His jokes were bland for a comedian. Most of his jokes were about daddy issues, which his character did have, and it wasn't funny tbh. Idk I feel like mad santa could of done better without fluffy being there.

Mad santa and Olga: I love the design and his sass. Olga and him really bounced off eachother well. I loved that Olga didn't put up with Mad Santa and would make fun of him. Olga and Mad Santa were honestly the reason is ticked this far into this reason as they were actually fun.

Cal is a golden retriever with two braincells, and both are thinking about girls. I hate Riley, but she's fits his lack of thought well as she is also head empty. I wish Cal was actually intelligent and not your stereotypical disney boy.

Sandra is the golden child. Sandra, I truly like and was worried she would be as flat as Carol. I'm glad she has magic, but I have no idea where they might go with her magic. Might be interesting if she becomes halloween as that's a legendary we haven't seen.

La befana, I have mixed feelings on this season. I liked her a lot, season 1, but now she just seems weak and not the powerful witch we thought she was in season 1.

Scott....... needs a longer beard. He needs to get his ass out of his head and actually listen and look at his children instead of what HE wants. I want to see him make toys like he did in the movies and actually be in the workshop.

Betty and Noel leaving makes me sad as they were my OTP and will be sad to see them go. I'm scared who the next head elf will be if they do decide not to return from Kribble Krabble. Because none of the elves we see currently are head elf material. Eddie should not be head elf.

Submitted this piece to the local art guild's big show. It's open to everyone in the area, not just members, so I'm not guaranteed to get in just because I'm a member.

I started traditionally, but didn't like how the ink was going onto the paper, so scanned what I had and finished it up in Clip Studio. Digital rough for kicks. Also of note, I took the photo it's referenced from.

Going digital unfortunately left me with a printing dilemma. I ordered from CatPrint the other month, but they're not going to be able deliver before the show drop off unless I fork over $$$ for an expedited order. Not familiar with printers around here, so I'm not sure who does what I want. I was going to call/go around the local places today, but had another idea this morning.

Maybe it's time to order the new printer??? My printer is pretty much shot as far as color images go. It's ok at solid blocks of color, but they are so off. Even after cleanings. It's probably over 10 yrs old. It's an all in one, so it's my scanner too, but even that isn't working the best on the Mac OS I'm using now. So I spent the morning looking at printers again (I'd looked the other month.)

I had narrowed it down to two, one that printed 13 x 19 edge to edge, and one that printed 13 x 19, with a white margin. The edge to edge one was $150 more on most sites. Then I started looking for paper, because well, I'd need that for this project too. I found a sampler on one site, put it in my cart, and it'd be here by Thursday. Then I searched for the more expensive printer and it was $50 less on the same site as the paper, free expedited shipping, it should be here this week. So I went for it.

This will still give me time to go to a local printer if I can't figure out how to work my new printer, lol. I also need to pick up a new, dedicated, scanner at some point since new printer isn't an all-in-one. I'll keep an eye out for large format flatbeds, but figured my all in one's scanner will work for the time being. Should have done this the other month when all the electronics sales were running, but I ordered a new computer and didn't want to deal with it all at once.

I have decided that this year’s Halloween costume will be (drumroll please) an early 2000s emo kid. I have a very important doctor’s appointment and I need this guy to take me seriously, so no big intricate costume for me this year. I already dress enough like an early 2000s emo kid that I just need to do a little more than I usually do and it’ll work, but it will still be reasonable enough to see a rheumatologist and beg him for help. Anyway, time permitting tomorrow if I get enough homework done, I’m going to try to make a replica of some Bullets or Revenge era MCR merch, most of the stuff I have is Black Parade era or modern merch, which is fine but also I do want some early merch so if I can make some that will be cool. I have some printer compatible iron on sheets for light and dark fabric, and some plain black tshirts, I just need to figure out how to get white space to work on the iron on sheets bc I don’t have white ink and I need to get it to show up but also be visible, I have a few ideas but I’m gonna need to do some trial and error. So we’ll see. I do have a knockoff Bullets era shirt, the haunted castle one that usually has gold foil, but mine has a white decoration and it disintegrated in the washer so it’s all crumbly and leaves little white crud everywhere, but it’ll work if I don’t have time to make anything or I can’t get it to work. (official documentation of my suspicion was the 5th of december between chapters 21 - 23 , if i recall correctly) the suspicious bolded texts about their relationship and viktors lie when asked about yunjins whereabouts /REALLY/ set off some alarm bells in my head , among other things . admittedly i never solved these cases a really long time before the main cast finds out , but i think its still a win , yeah ? honestly it was a bit of a shocker to me when it was revealed yunjin was “playing as” viktor , i never really considered that possibility in my head at the time ! kudos to you my friend , youve successfully plot - twisted the detective ! i'm glad you caught on that yun jin was the serial killer around those chapters! i actually did purposely plan to start making her suspicious around the grad ball arc since it was one of the breaking points of y/n and kuni's relationship, so her having a big role in it makes everything more conflicted and wicked. it's a really nice addition to her character lmao

yun jin playing as viktor was something i myself hadn't expected to do ngl. i have no idea how i managed to execute that perfectly but i'm glad i did, seeing everyone's reactions to it is really comical and enjoyable! i love making people squirm! /hj
