Calibre - Look & Feel

After setting up Calibre, setting up FanFicFare, it's now time to change the User Interface so to personalize Calibre at its best.

The standard Calibre UI can be changed by going to Preference -> Look & Feel menu:

Main Interface

In the Main Interface menu you can play around the various options:

You can choose if you want to display the calibre style (and in this case if you wish to trigger the Night Mode, under "Color Palette") or your system default.

You can check and change the icon theme, by clicking on the "Change Icon Theme" button. Select the one you wish to try out and click on "OK"

Close the Look&Feel menu and the new icon set will be used instead of the standard one.

For example, this is the look of "Monstre" theme:

If you wish to have no icon at all on top, you can disable them. Or you can make them smaller (or larger). You can decide if you want to have the text displayed or not:

Finally, you can change the Interface font.

For example, if I don't want to have icon on the menu, and I want to use Comic Sans, this will be the final result:

Cover Grid

Calibre has two options to view your books list: the List View we talked about up to now and the Cover Grid, which shows the covers.

In the Cover Grid, you can tweak how you want your Cover Grid to look like. If you want to show additional information (the Title, or the Author, or whatever else), the background color/image, the size, etc.

In the "Emblems" tab, you can choose to had an emblem to each cover following a rule. For example, let's say you want to show a "Completed" icon if the FF has been completed.

Go to Emblems, activate the "Show emblems next to the covers" option and then click on "Add rule"

When you click on Add Rule, you need first to upload the emblem you wish to use. You can search and find for icons on the web.

Then you can add your rule. When you click on the drop-down menu next to "If the", all your columns will be listed. Remember the "look-up" name of the column you want to test and select that one.

In our example, we want to test if a FF has been completed, so we will need to find the "#completed" column.

Once we selected the column, in the field next to "column" we can add the condition. Calibre automatically detects the type of data we are dealing with, so in this case we already have as option "is true"/"is false"/etc.

Confirm and go back to your books list. Click on layout on the right bottom bar and select "Cover Grid"

And here we are the final result:

Book details

In the Book Detail tab, you can flag which infos are shown in the Book Detail (quickview) that is shown on the right side (if you are using the "Wide" layout option defined in the Look&Feel tab) or at the bottom (if you are using the "Narrow" layout option). If you are comfortable with CSS you can change the CSS, you can also order how the metadata should be shown, and select which action should Calibre do as default when you click on the Author name:

In the "Narrow" layout, the final result will be shown at the bottom:

You can change its size (just drag the "three dots" around), or you can disable the "Book details" view from Layout -> Hide Book Details

Edit Metadata

The Edit Metadata tab is useful if you want to change the order of your custom fields in the "Edit Metadata" function and how they are displayed (separated from the standard one or together)

Tag Browser

The Tag Browser defines how the tag panel on the left side is customized:

You can select which tags you want to be shown (you can hide/show tags also by right-clicking on the browser tag itself and hide/show the various tags). More importantly, you can decide to hide any tag that has no value

In the "Hierarchy & Searching" tab you can define which of your tags have a hierarchical structure.

By default all tags considered at same level, but Calibre allows hierarchical tags by interpreting the dot as your hierarchy separator.

For example, if you want to create an "Era Setting" and use this hierarchy:

Hogwarts -> 6th Year

Hogwarts -> 7th Year

Hogwarts -> 8th Year

Post Hogwarts

Others

You will need to create a custom column (#hp_era_setting) and flag it as Hierarchical in the tag browser.

If you fill data as "Hogwarts.6th Year", Calibre will show the hierarchy like this:

Cover Browser // Quickview

I'm skipping this two tabs because I have never changed anything there. They can be used to change the Cover Browser and Quickview tools you can find under "Layout" icon (the same one you use to switch to the Cover Grid and to Show/Hide the Books details)

Column Coloring

Column Coloring tab is used to define how to change colors of a field based on any kind of rule.

For example, let's say you want to change the color of a row from black to gray if you have already rated a fanfiction.

You need to create a rule like this, in which you change the colour of all columns for all records in which the column "Rating" has been set

Here the result:

You can add multiple rules. So for example you want to change the color of your stars?

You need to add a rule in which you change the color of ONLY the Rating Column if a Rating has been set:

Column Icons

The last tab, "Column Icons" will allow you to add icons to column based on rules.

For example, let's say you want to show icons for the rating. You need to have rules like this one:

In which you are setting an icon (without text, if you don't want to see the actual column value) if the Content Rating value is "Explicit",

The result will be like this:

Changing the Tool Bar

You can also change the Tool Bar to add/hide menu options you are not interested in.

Changing the icons on the Tag Browser

You can change the icons in the tag browser by right-clicking on the tag you wish to change and selecting the "change icon" option:

Further customization

You can fine-tune the look & feel of your library through JobSpy Plugin.

JobSpy is a super complex plugin (which I won't pretend I know much about to start with) but for our needs we just needs two things:

Open the "Customize GUI Tools"

and scroll down till you find the GUI Colors: Library View, Tag Browser.

Here you can choose your color scheme and activate it:

2. By default when you change the icon on the Tag Browser, the new icon is used for all the items. But maybe you want to change the icons to match your "Column Icon" rule.

Select GUI Tools That are Look & Field Related -> Customize User Category Tag Browser

Select the tag you want to customize and the plugin will detect all the values currently used:

Browse your pc for the related icon and assign it to the value. You can review the assigned icon in the table.

Flag the option to apply them at Calibre start-up, and here you are the result:

Calibre Integration with GoodReads & your e-reader

In the next post I will go through some basic tools to integrate your calibre library to goodreads, to download goodreads cover and to set up your e-reader.

while I find it incredibly useful to know exactly what’s affecting you so that you can figure out proper coping mechanisms/systems in order to live life more effectively or accomplish your goals (such as realizing that a lot of your bad feelings stem from ADHD and not anxiety like you thought or whatever), I do think that deciding to move forward with your life by wholly identifying yourself with your disorder(s) and proudly proclaiming yourself to be that kind of person online can end up being very damaging.

Trapped and Forgotten Part 2

Part 1 here

Warnings: torture mention, arguing, bullying, hurting animals (scorpian), stab-like wound, blood, pain, manhandling and restraining, hunting fish, poison, force feeding, implied character paralysis and death, nightmare (not that creepy)

Well that wasn't exactly expected.

Hero assumed that Supervillain had a plan of torture that had something to do with whips, starvation, isolation, drowning or whatever evil scheme went through the pea brain.

Well that "pea brain" definitely had other ideas about what to with their newest additon to their prison.

The prisoners could barely resist as Supervillain's men attached heavy chains to their ankles and wrists that restricted any quick movement. They couldn't resist as they were dragged to a beating airplane and strapped in. Hero didn't really mind it. They were a hero after all. In about a week, the government would send people to rescue them and Sidekick, arrest the twins, and all would be back to normal. No stinky cells, no Supervillain, just Hero and their freedom. All they had to do was stay calm.

Calm and all would be all would get better.

It did not get better.

After a horrible plane ride with Villain rambling on and half-drunk pilots, they were mercilessly dropped (and when Hero means dropped, they mean thrown out of the plane and tumulting eleven feet onto the ground). If it wasn't for Sidekick's burly body as a cushion, Hero was sure they would've broken half the bones in their body.

Villain and Henchman were luckily dropped into water, but Hero still flinched when they heard the sharp splash of ocean as they hit it stomach first.

"Oh my gosh," Sidekick muttered and heavef themselves off the ground. Hero noticed their shaky limbs and helped them to their feet. They gave Hero, also known as the one who got away with just a bruised funny bone, a smile of gratitude.

Hero and Sidekick made themselves comfortable on the beach and allowed the sun to soak into their chilly bodies. Supervillain, for some apparent reason that was beyond Hero's cognitive skills, kept the plane at a freezing temperature.

Henchman collasped on the ground next to Sidekick. Villain stayed back. Hero could tell that they were exhausted from the swim, but they refused to show any sign of weakness. Not that it mattered. First, Hero saw them practically paralysized and just lying there after being shocked, and second, they had bigger things to worry about.

Like, where the heck were they? And why?

"Let's go Henchman," Villain growled and stormed back to the group. Hero raised their eyebrows, what exactly did they mean by that?

Henchman let out a groan and gave their twin a look. The two regarded each other carefully until Villain broke eye contact.

"Look," they glanced at Hero. "We are stuck here. You hear me? There is no way out and I personally do not want to be within a two mile radius from dumb and dumber." They looked at Sidekick and "dumb" and Hero at "dumber".

Before Hero could say something or throw a very pathetic insult back at them, Sidekick spoke up,

"Us dumb? Villain, you were the one who got us into this mess."

"Me?" Villain stepped forward and pointed at themselves. "Me dumb? Are you seriously saying that I, Villain, is dumb? I, I repeat," they pointed at themselves vigorously here, "I am not dumb. Not like you. I-i."

After a slipt second to recompose themselves, Villain snarled, "I am the smart being here. Henchman, let's go and leave these two to sulk in their lack of intelligence."

Henchman didn't move. They blinked at Villain very slowly, then looked at Hero. Hero couldn't help but chuckle lightly. Even Villain's twin sibling did not think they were using their thinking cap.

"Now Henchman!" Villain yelled and grabbed their sibling's arm. They pulled, but Henchman curled up in a ball and rolled uselessly to their sides.

"Knock it off!" Villain screamed and clenched their teeth.

Sidekick nudged Hero and twirled their finger by their ear. They let out a whistle, "Wee woo."

Hero bawled out laughing and smacked their friend lightly on the shoulder which added to Villain's anger. They clenched their teeth even harder and shoved their finger in Hero's face.

"Listen," they growled. "Knock that smile off your face or I will do it for you." The murderous look in Villain's eyes actually made them want to believe them for a second, but Hero could see the fight dying in there somewhere. Maybe they were finally coming to their senses.

"Hear me!" Villain hollered and grabbed Hero's shoulders. This was the last straw for Sidekick who stood up and grabbed the collar of Villain's leather jacket.

"Stop this Villain," Sidekick said in a near whisper. "You are out of line."

"Me?" Villain shot back. They might've intended it to be full of confidence, but Hero could hear the slight break in their voice.

"Yes you," Sidekick replied calmly. "Now settle down before you attract all sorts of creatures."

Villain struggled against the stronger's unyielding grip, only to fail and give up. Sidekick placed the defeated mess next to their sibling.

Sidekick sat back down next to Hero with a sigh. In sinc, they both looked at the villains. Henchman put their arm around Villain's shoulder, hiding their face and holding them dearly.

"Sibling love," Hero murmured to Sidekick. Now that the angry Villain scenario was over with, they took in the situation. Villain was right about one thing, they were stuck there... with each other which was not the most ideal thing ever, but with the current conditions, they would be forced to work with it. Unless, of course, Villain and Henchman left. 'That's not a bad idea,' Hero realized, thinking of the tad of freedom they would get if they did not have to babysit Hormonal Teenager and their killing counterpart.

"Those two are running," Sidekick said suddenly. Hero looked up to see the twins sprinting across the sand.

"Should we run too?" Hero asked. They really just wanted to take a long, warm, peaceful nap in the sun contemplating what to do than have a P.E. class on the beach.

"That would be a good choice," Sidekick yawned and heaved themselves to their feet. Hero did the same, and immediately regretted their life choices... again.

They could feel a presence right behind them and when they turned, they half expected to wake up from a horrid nightmare.

Because they were staring eye to eye with an enlarged scorpian.

Villain thought of themselves as the sneakiest bastard in the history of bastards. They saw the scorpian thing the second Sidekick very rudely set them on the ground like a toddler.

Maybe they weren't acting their age, maybe, but a tussle with a creepy, disgusting, ginormous bug that was most likely lethal would be a great way to get back at them.

Awesome payback. Villain almost called it their best plan ever if it wasn't for the fact that there was two.

Yes, two scorpians.

Henchman and Villain skidded to a stop. Even if they were far from a genius (which Villain denied with a passion in their hopes to be the best), Villain excelled at fighting. The scorpions seemed to have a strategy which was an an immpossible idea.

'Scorpians don't have enough brain to attack with a seemingly planned strategy,' Villain told themselves over and over as the enormous bug crept closer.

Maybe bigger bugs had bigger thinkers? Villain glanced at Henchman who was also coincidentally looking at their twin. Both knew what they were going to have to do.

They would have to fight.

Villain waited for the scorpian to come to them. It walked as if it had many tricks up its sleeve, or endoskeleton.

Or was it exoskeleton?

"Hey Henchman," Villain said as the scorpian made its first move. A swift attack with its tail that Villain easily dodged.

"Kinda busy at the moment. What do you need?" Henchman asked smoothly as they pushed away one of the scorpian's claws.

"What's the definition of an 'exoskeleton'?" Villain asked.

"Outer protective covering like what you find on crustaceans and insects," Henchman replied. "Why?"

"Just wondering," Villain grunted and dodged another attack. "Define crustacean."

"Like crabs or lobsters."

"A scorpian?" Villain asked.

"A scorpian is an arachnid," Henchman answered without a moment's hesitation.

"So it is incorrect to call them a bug?" Villain asked.

"Shut up."

"Okay." Villain missed the casual conversation after a few seconds of fighting in silence. The twins fought blow for blow as if it was automatic. Which it was in a way. Villain sort of wished that Hero was watching them. They could just imagine the awestruck look on their face, but they knew that they were busy fighting their own crustacean, or arachnid... or whatever.

Whether it was scientifically correct or not Villain decided that "bug" was the easiest the say.

"How did you pass biology?" Henchman asked suddenly as a huge claw nearly smacked them in the face.

"I cheated," Villain answered and shot their twin a smug look.

"Off who?"

"You."

"How didn't I know this?" Henchman asked in an exasperated tone.

"Don't know actually," Villain laughed, kicking at the scorpian's fangs. "I also stole the answers from the teacher."

"All those times-"

"Yes," Villain interrupted. The two continued to fight in silence until they drove the scorpian into the water. They kicked, punched, tackled, did everything they could until it was half-drowned. They stepped back and gave each other a brisk high five.

Strangled grunts interrupted their victory. Villain turned around to see Hero and Sidekick fighting their scorpian about five yards away. They couldn't help but feel satisfied that the scorpian was winning.

The scorpian flung Sidekick into the water, leaving Hero to fend for themselves. The scorpian and the hero fought like they were old enemies and knew each other's tricks which was another impossibility that Villain felt that they had to overcome.

The scorpian got the upper hand and started shoving Hero down into the ground.

Something unexpected clicked in Villain. They ran to Hero and pushed them out of the way, shielding them as the sharp stinger at the end of the tail stabbed them.

Only it didn't hit Hero. It hit Villain instead, right in the shoulder. They bit back a cry of pain and grabbed the scorpian's head. It thrashed and tried to get out of Villain's iron grasp, but Villain kneed it in the face. They could feel fresh blood pouring out if the wound, but they ignored it.

Henchman and Hero joined Villain on the other side. All together, they dragged it into the water and left it by its injured buddy.

"You idiot!" Hero yelled after they caught their breath. "Your childish yelling drew them here. It's your fault."

Villain gave a wobbly smile as they staggered backwards into Henchman's arms.

"What the heck is wrong with you! You-" Hero stopped scolding when they noticed the crimson liquid staining Villain's shirt. "Oh gosh are you bleeding?"

Henchman delicately laid Villain on the warm sand. Hero and Sidekick rushed to Villain's side and examined the wound.

"Stop!" Villain screamed when Sidekick poked it. They withered around and scooted next to Henchman on their feet.

"Lay back down Villain," Sidekick sneered. "It's your own fault that you were so careless."

"No."

"Stop backtalking," Hero ordered and grabbed Villain's wrist. "You are gonna bleed out and I don't want that on my hands."

Villain pulled their hand back and cowered next to Henchman. They didn't care that they looked like a child scared of a spider, but neither did Hero. They grabbed Villain viciously and shoved them onto the ground.

"Hero be gentle," Henchman warned and put a hand out to block Hero from pulling Villain around even more.

Villain whimpered and grabbed onto their twin like they usually did when they were hurt. Pain pulsed through their body like being hit with a whip in the same spot over and over again. It wasn't that being whipped was too unbearable for Villain (personallly, they would rather be whipped than shocked), but it quite obnoxiously annoying and painful.

Henchman put their forearm on their chest as Hero pulled their arm through the sleeve to expose the wound. 'Please stop,' Villain wanted to plead as another wave of white pain overcame them, but they bit their tongue.

Villain allowed their head to loll towards the side. They could the pressure from a hand on their cheek, making sure they wouldn't move. Not that Villain would, they just allowed everything to happen to them without their sarcastic complaints.

"Hey," a soft voice murmured. "Sleep okay?"

Yeah no, not happening.

Villain squirmed and shot the owner of the voice a sharp glare, but only got a light chuckle in response.

Pain engulfed Villain again and they jerked upwards, finally crying out. Someone shoved them back on the ground again, not as kind as what they would ideally want.

"Sorry," a sarcastic voice sounded. Sidekick. Villain clenched their teeth. How dare they take advantage of them when they were like this?

Hero held Villain down quickly the second they began to whimper. Sidekick already tied a tourniquet to halt the poison flow. Or the assumed poison flow.

After it was all done and Villain remained still, Hero finally relaxed. Their hands were covered in blood and so was their face. 'Gosh is Villain tough', Hero realized admirably.

"We are gonna have to get that posion out somehow," Sidekick said and gave Hero a long look. Both knew what it meant, but neither had the courage to say it.

"Yeah," Hero agreed. The two sat in silence and watched as Henchman comforted their twin with hushes and strokes.

A twig snapped and Hero looked around. They were way too exposed on the beach, but moving Villain would cause an uproar.

They studied the woods that were lined next to the beach as far as the eye could see. Oaks and elms mostly, with the occasional pine. As Hero observed, they could see squirrels and curious deer watching them.

"Hero," Henchman said suddenly. "We need food."

Yeah, no kidding.

Hero stood up and joined Henchman next to Villain who was getting paler by the second. Their face was contorted with pain and they wouldn't make eye contact as they lost focus. Hero could tell they were losing the fight to remain aware and awake.

"Stay awake," Henchman murmured and nudged their twin. Hero gave them a quizzical look. Wouldn't it be better if they slept off the sickness?

"When Supervillain was close to us," Henchman gestured at the half-conscious Villain. "They spoke of this... animal. Actually, come to think of it, it was a scorpian. Anyway, they said that the posion got worse as the victim slept because it caused drowsiness. Villain knows this." Both looked down at Villain who was staring at the tree line, silent apart from the pained whimper that escaped their lips every now and then.

"So we take shifts?" Hero asked, thinking about how tired they were going to get if they had to do it alone. No, they erased that thought. Not everything was about them, Villain would be sicker in the morning. Especially since they weren't able to clean the nasty wound. Hero peered at it. They could see the gnarled flesh that was ripped up as the barbed tail yanked itself out of Villain. The shoulder bone was likely hit and caused multiple chips. Not to mention the torn ligaments and tendons...

Hero looked away. The more they thought about it, the worse it seemed to get.

Henchman cupped their hand around Villain's other shoulder and sighed. "I know what you are thinking Hero," they looked at them with teary eyes. "They may not make it."

Hero gulped. That thought had indeed entered their mind once or twice. It was hard not to expect Villain losing their battle. Even though the injury literally just happened twenty minutes ago, they had to realize that there was no medical care on the island, probably more bizzare creatures that Villain could not run away from, and other environmental factors that made everything more and more difficult.

As night neared, Sidekick went into the ocean to try and catch some fish. They succeeded with a large salmon that the quartet shared. Even Villain ate a couple morsels, or more realistically, Henchman stuffed it down their throat.

They decided on a shift with four hour intervals. Sidekick's smartwatch still worked, so they used that.

Hero took the fourth watch. Their "savior instincts" told them to stay up all night long, but Sidekick convinced them that it wouldn't help Villain being exhausted in the morning. So, Hero consented and fell into an uneasy sleep.

Villain was standing still. A silhouette against the setting sun. It was a gorgeous sight. The sky was a bright orange with red and yellow highlights. There was even pink and purple streaks throughout the sky. The sun was huge as it dipped behind the city's skyscrapers.

It would be beautiful if it wasn't for the fact that Villain used canes. Two canes for each arm, but it didn't help them. They couldn't walk, couldn't talk, couldn't function as a normal human being.

Their body wouldn't work for them, so when they turned to walk back where a car was waiting for them, they tripped and fell.

Hero woke with a jolt, shaking. They glanced upwards and saw Henchman tenderly shaking them.

"Your turn," Henchman yawned and laid across from Sidekick's snoring form. Hero groaned and crawled over to Villain. With the moon reflecting in their wide eyes, Hero couldn't help but admire their courage. After all, they did protect Hero whether either admitted it or not.

Hero gently shook Villain as their eyelids began to droop. They did this almost every minute. The whole time they couldn't stop thinking about their nightmare.

IS JIKOOK REAL?

In light of everything that's happened over the course of the month: Taekook in the Soop, the missing birthday post on Jimin's birthday and the following silence that's ensued in its aftermath- we are all still waiting for Jimin's birthday VLive; every Jikook fan past and present, deep and shallow, I feel, is left wondering whether Jikook was ever as real as bigfoot and the Easter bunny, a figment of our imagination. Is Jikook real, we all wonder.

Now, I can't answer the later with Vim and Vigor without opening myself up to all kinds of law suits under the sun- I don't care much for the skepticism and ridicule that usually follows. Nor can I in good conscience come out here and outrightly out these two that I feel are in fact a couple and dating. That would be very hypocritical of me.

The best I can do in this instance is to stream my consciousness and share with you why I believe them to be a couple? Let the records show, I am full on delusional. *smiling.

I think when it comes to Jikook the universal consensus within the fandom is that they have a really special bond. We can all agree on that much. Their bond is unique and just plain beautiful; the days of disclarity and obscurity over whether they even like each other long gone.

Thus I refrain from indulging in any conversation that calls to question the intentions of either party towards the other when either act in a certain way that most find displeasing. Such as, questions about why JK didn't promote Promise or Friends, why he didn't wish JM a happy birthday. Is Jk envious of Jimin or vice versa, etc.

Such questions as simple and as innocuous as they may seem are always hard for me to answer. JK promoted Promise, had the funniest reaction video to it. He promoted Lie, every chance he got with teasing Jimin's dance moves in Lie, literally had a gun to Jimin to perform Lie in run and that hand on his heart said it all. Is that not promotion enough?

We heard serendipity, you are me, I am you and the many tireless times JK has talked about it- he won't shut up about it. What more does he need to do to show he loves and supports Jimin's career?

I find when people ask these kinds of questions that they are operating on the mentality that JK doesn't love Jimin *enough* or worse that Jikook ought to love each other in a certain kind of way, their own arbitrary ways and to their own satisfaction.

I keep reiterating that this is their love and their relationship. Ours is just to observe how they are choosing to express that love for eachother and uWu while we are at it. Lol

That's not to say that we shouldn't have certain expectations of them if we believe them to be a couple. Expectations are important and necessary to sustaining our belief in them as a couple. But that expectation should be reasonable and should be determined by the patterns of behavior we see in them towards eachother, towards the group and with consideration to their values, culture and beliefs- stay with me.

If our expectations of them is that they are not loving eachother enough or in a way that satisfies and appeases our spirits then that's no longer expectations. That's projecting.

Thus, I'm often discombobulated by the questions i recieve on the quality of love they express towards each other because quality is relative and highly subjective.

Jikook only have so much room to express their love and affection for eachother since they are not out yet and so we may not fully be privy to the extent of the love they express for each other much less to ascertain its quality.

The space they inhabit is a working space and when the cameras turn on it is work and business...

That being said, what they are not doing within this constricted space they have is equally as important as what they are doing within this space. Whereas questions of the quality of their love is irrelevant, to me as an Alt shipper at least, I find questions of the degree of love between them highly important.

Jikook's special bond is indisputable. The conflict then has always been about labels, whether or not that bond they share is purely platonic, romantic or something in between- the degree of love between them.

And I see there are different schools of thought on this matter. There are those who operate on the assumption that Jikook are just special friends and reserve the possibility that they could be something more to them.

Then there are those who believe they are real or could be real but reserve the possibility that they could also not be real.

These are the conventional shippers. They play it safe. Good for them. But then there are the full on delulu folks such as myself who are risk takers and go all in or nothing- alternative shipping.

To me Jikook is real or I am not shipping them in the way that I ship them at all. Lol. Chileee, I prefer Yoonmin, Minimoni, Jihope, Vmin, Jinminkook, Vminkook as conventional ships for fun and what not. Jikook has always been that alternative ship for me.

And as an alternative ship, what Jikook do for eachother is equally as important to me as what they do not do for eachother. If Jikook are real then I think it's imperative that we have reasonable expectations of them in the way that they behave with eachother, enough to distinctify them as a couple within the group.

Couples are expected to behave in a certain way marked and defined by the couples themselves but that also set them apart nonetheless. Some people choose to be in an open relationship, may be friends with benefit etc but will still exude certain patterns of behavior definitive in itself that it distinguishes them from mere friends.

If Jikook are a couple they will define their relationship in a way that sets a standard for them such that this standard sets them apart from the rest of the group. And I think I have mentioned some of those standards as intimacy, speaking eachothers love language, exclusivity and the right to claim amongst others.

Yes JK loves JM and vice versa but are they loving eachother as friends or lovers? What are the patterns of behavior they put up or not put up to distinctify themselves as a couple within the group if they are one?

Yes Taekook are friends, but are they putting up distinctive characteristics that set them apart from Jikook? The answer is a resounding no- atatattatatatat, no buts. I'll bitch slap you. Lol

Tae cuddles Jimin and shares a bed with him but that is ok because they are besties soulmates. Vmin cute. Tae cuddles JK and suddenly the fandom is in uproar? Chilee, what's y'all on?

This is why I shy away from conventional shippers- well, some. The tendency they have to dismiss certain certain moments when they happen or import standards into Jikook's dynamics based on their own understanding of intimacy and romance without taking into consideration what Jikooks understanding of romance and intimacy is baffles me.

These are the people who would scream why is Jimin blowing kisses at Suga here, why is Jk cuddling Tae there without considering whether skinship with others is a deal breaker for Jikook. JK does skinship with Jin, Tae and suddenly they are questioning whether Jikook is real- I really can't relate.

If skinship is not a deal breaker for Jikook then such reactions to moments like these are nothing but censorship of JK and Jimin's behaviors and goes to question the quality of their love which as I said is irrelevant to the determining of the realness of Jikook.

If you think these skinship they do with others are disrespectful towards eachother then indirectly you are saying Jikook's relationship is toxic- but toxic relationships are still relationships and so that doesn't invalidate Jikook's relationship or disprove it.

If you expect JM to behave in a certain way because you think he is in a relationship with JK or vice versa that is no longer reasonable expectations of them but blatant censorship.

Put censorship aside, the question of the quality of their relationship aside, our own personal idiosyncrasies aside and hopes- what do you see?

REASONABLE EXPECTATIONS

I mentioned above how it's imperative to have reasonable expectations of Jikook if you believe them to be a real couple because without these expectations Jikook is no different from any other ship in BTS.

I talked about what constitutes reasonable expectations though and attempted to outline what doesn't count as reasonable expectations but allow me to shed more light on it for the sake of dissolving any ambiguity around the term.

Unreasonable expectations are those expectations we have that result in us questioning the validity of Jikooks relationship without cause. They often result in us assuming something is wrong between Jikook because we feel there is something we ought to see in their interactions because we are used to seeing them in Jikook dynamics.

Unreasonable expectations is drilled in us by false conditionings. Some of these false conditionings are external to Jikook, such as our exposure to analysis videos or edited videos. They often condition us to think Jikook are in BTS to screw eachother seven ways through the roof all year round. We tend to forget quickly that when the cameras turn on it's all work for them.

The worst part is, we get used to the slowed down gazes, the two seconds lingering stares and touches that go on for minutes in these edited videos and so whenever we are exposed to actual content from BigHit in real time we feel JK didn't stare too long, JM didn't laugh at JK's Jokes therefore something is wrong.

Some false conditionings are induced in us by Jikook themselves.

Take for instance, Jimlous and Jeonlous. Are these something to be considered reasonable expectations for us to have of Jikook because we see them do this all the time? Absolutely not.

While jealousy is an integral part of the Korean dating culture- allegedly, it is subject to the mental state, personal values and growth of Jikook.

As they mature, they may outgrow certain behaviors not limited to Jimlous/Jeonlous. It is thus unreasonable to expect these of Jikook all the time.

Coupled with long exposures to edited videos, we soon become conditioned to expect Jk or Jimin to react strongly to when the other seemingly crosses boundaries with others- aka skinship.

If you expect JK to pout each time Jimin smiles at another member and they don't, it simply means you are stuck in the past and aren't growing with them on their love journey. It doesn't mean something is wrong with Jikook or that Jikook is not real.

That doesn't mean Jeonlous is not important. It is a distinctifier. In my opinion.

Jikook are able to enforce boundaries with each other because they have the right to. I keep saying they are the only pair in BTS that has and exercise this right of claim over eachother. Jimlous/ Jeonlous is how we know they feel a boundary has been crossed and depending on the situation or environment they would often exercise that right of claim.

I have said, the only times I feel they don't and can't exercise this right of claim is if they are not a couple and just friends- when they are broken up. I saw this because even in official settings they seem to have this right of claim even if they are not exercising it.

What I'm trying to say is certain behaviors and patterns of behavior in Jikook are distinctifiers in that they set them apart from the other pairs and those distinctifiers can be reasonably expected of Jikook and so if we don't see those in them- over a period of time mind you, then questions and brows ought to be raised as high up as possible. If Jikook is not real then frankly I want to know. I'm not about to believe in bigfoot.

What I'm saying basically is, whereas Jeonlous and Jimlous are not a distinctifier perse as such shouldn't be reasonably expected of them, right of claim is a distinctifier and should be reasonably expected.

Skinship is not a distinctifier- if I have to repeat this one more time I swear to god imma wield JK's pan on y'all. Lol but deadass.

Now, is JK wishing JM a happy birthday openly on social media reasonable expectation? Come now, Y'all don know I had a complete meltdown over this on my TL. Of course I'm gone bring it up. Lol

Jikook wishing eachother a happy birthday on social media is reasonable expectations to have if it is a distinctifier or something that sets Jikook apart from the rest of the members. Is it? The answer is a flat ass no.

I mentioned that one of the reasons I believe Jikook is real is because I feel out of all the pairs in BTS they are the ones that speak eachother's love language.

Jimin loves to be made to feel special. Jk makes Jimin feel special. I mean he did gift JM a present without doing same for the others so it's safe to assume he gives Jimin special treatment on his birthdays- as should he. Mr Park set the standards high for his man.

Y'all know I was on my personal agenda with this whole JM birthday thingy. I was hoping Jk was going to post but only for Jimin and make a statement with it- a girl can dream.

The fact that he didn't post doesn't mean he didn't make JM feel special on his birthday. Had JM and BTS not talked openly about JK buying JM a present when he didn't do that for the others, frankly we wouldn't have known he ever did that for JM.

It sort of leaves you wondering what goes on behind the cameras. I mean if memories 2019 is anything to go by, Jikook is closer than we think.

Jikook show us a lot but there are a lot more we don't see.

In their early dynamics he used to do alot for JM that he seemed uncomfortable showing openly. We only knew of those moments through Jimin who seemed giddy and excited about them and would often overshare those information.

Personally, I feel whatever they did for Jimin on his Birthday is going to show up in a Bangtan Bomb or something in the future.

Due to BTS' inability to hold physical concerts due to the virus, I feel BigHit are on an agenda to increase demand and patronage for BTS content online by creating scarcity and making BTS less available and accessible- demand and supply, economics 101. They ain't slick. Bless them.

Social media is an outlet for Jikook. In my opinion. It is one of the means through which they express themselves individually and as a couple. But it's my understanding that Jikook use these outlets in different ways.

While JK uses it as an outlet to express his feelings because of his introvertedness, Jimin uses it as a means to connect with his fans and build their platform.

What I mean is, if JK is feeling happy he is going to come on here and tweet, cup of milk let's rock and roll. When Jimin doesn't pick up his calls, he's gonna come here and tweet it's hard to love. And when JinMin leave him out of a VLive he's gone drag his man's ass to film an impromptu live with him- bless him.

Jimin I find doesn't show up on social media on impulse as JK does- we all know what happens when he does. Thats when the multiple tweets and misspelled names roll in.

Jimin's presence online is often curated, in my opinion. He will often make time to talk and share his thoughts and feelings with Army to connect with them. It's the quality time love language bit in him.

Together, they use social media as an outlet to tease their relationship as a means to relieve the stress that comes with hiding their relationship. Their relationship. They do this through the flirty banter thingy they do on line- posting after eachother, responding to each other's messages etc.

An example is the recent Weverse thingy JK did which I posted about. And more recently, the D5/D4 posts they shared on Twitter where JK posted a picture of his mic on stage, an Army Logo and a purple heart. Which together read, JK purple's Army.

Jimin responded with a complimentary post of himself performing in a black and white photo with the hashtag Jimin, I miss Army. Now you don't need me to tell you what that means and if you think it's a coincidence- sorry to you.

When JK does these things, he is often connecting with Jimin, reaching out. Not every post he sends is about Jimin or intended for Jimin. I find usually the ones that are about Jimin, Jimin responds to them through his own posts or that they will have something in them that indirectly points to Jimin.

Like the 123 song recommendations or even recently the pinky ring, sky and cup of milk photo he posted after his birthday VLive.

A lot of people kept saying perhaps the chrome heart ring he wore on his pinky was a gift from Jimin. It could be. But I think the pinky was reference to the pinky ring Joke he shared on stage when he took Jimin's ring and put it on his pinky.

The blue sky reference, well... you know. But I was more concerned about the blurred out yet visible tags on the buildings in the background- this is weird for me to say out loud but I felt the message of that post was we are not hiding. Don't mind me.

Jimin loves to flaunt their bond and flex it on social media. He gets giddy and excited when Jk shows his affections, interest and attraction to him.

I have said JK and JM have two different personalities and while often Jimin is loud, open and overwhelmingly affectionate, JK is equally intense with his affections but at his choosing. They both have intense feelings and passions for eachother but they express it in different ways due to their different personalities.

Jikook are together but they are on their own unique personal journeys of growth as well. And as much as they start certain traditions, they also end certain traditions. This is especially true for JK.

He is the one who started their 123 coded flirty banter and he is the same person who ended that tradition with the ending scene post he shared on Twitter.

Because JK likes to retract and conceal aspects of himself, often I value and pay more attention to the things he does share than the things he don't.

And because Jimin is very loud and forward with his expressions, I value and lay attention to the things he does not share more so than the things he shares.

Often I hear people say Jimin acts the same with everyone, he is so openly affectionate so certainly his love for JK doesn't go beyond platonic feelings nor can it be exclusive to JK.

That's just the thing with JM's persona. It is so loud it blurs the line between his true self and his idol self.

The boy in love with Jungkook is a facade. That is the role Jimin took on at debut. If you don't know this you've been played. If you dislike JK's brand of love, his way of expressing his love for Jimin because of this persona Jimin has you owe Jk an apology.

That one person who loves Jungkook unconditionally in BTS is just a performance. All BTS were given roles, a marketing role to sell the bromance and sell the fans. Most of them have since out grown those persona's and those kinds of performances- especially JK.

JM still holds on to his persona compared to the others in my opinion: that hypersexualized, aigyo cute persona, a bit brazen, confident, shameless etc. He projects a lot of himself into this persona but I feel often he injects bits of this persona into his real identity as a way to break himself out his limitations as Park Jimin-That never mind tattoo is there for a reason.

And so when he is being loud and daring and a tease that's not when I find his love for JK. His love resides in the calmness of his storms. In his moments of quiet when he isn't screaming and disappearing while he laughs; when he is staring at JK, taking in his visage as if he is the most beautiful thing on earth- that's when you see all the love he has for him in his face. He never does this with any of the members.

When JK is injured and he switches off his loud persona, that's when you see the real park Jimin.

I don't know which is worse, people who believe this sick persona of his is real or the people who see this persona for what it is but fail to look deeper than that.

Then there are those who believe they are dating but then dismiss certain questionable things when they happen in their dynamics. Isn't that why some people believe Taekook is real? in spite of Jikook? How can you believe a ship to be real when the existence of another ship calls into question the entire ship and not just aspects of it? It beats me.

Are they any ship in BTS that calls Jikook into question? I'll leave you to answer this.

My Dean Blunt Rotation aka High Fidelity Left A Bad Taste in My Mouth

For the past 2 to 3 months, my listening habits were teetering to an end; mostly via burnout by spontaneously listening to local artists daily and less likely of a musical discovery drought, whereas my interests of a certain artist or genre hasn't found its, sort of, "eureka", moment per se. I've been feeling less enthusiastic over the things i listen to since my friends have gradually lost their flare when it comes to discovering/exploring untapped parts of the music realm. Thus, in return, my enthusiasm not being reciprocated. It leaves an empty feeling from someone who has been yearning social interaction, may it be media being latched on the topic - it's a feeling that's been guilt-tripping me ever since I was stranded in the other end of the metro. I feel closed off, exposed to the crippling loneliness the lockdown has punished us: a defacto solitary confinement in a national level. Our act of staying online is also an act of staying alive outside.

To be fair though, it's a valid move to not boomerang compliments/gripes over an art you haven't consumed due to someone's autonomy. Your able body being to consume the art you wish to finish with free time is a luxury in of itself. The art is then failed to serve its purpose to reach its goal: You have squiggly lines heading straight to oblivion rather than swirling in the earlobes of a wandering cyber nomad. We, eventually, need to find something that could help us exit, rather than escape, from capital. We, in return, do not shut ourselves from the outside. Instead, we then tend to avoid the stress of protocols and outdoor fascism; Not avoid the indoor liberalism that is eating us alive and online. It's a capital punishment we never knew we signed up for ever since the onslaught of the virus and the state. Art for art's sake is nonexistent now, always has been, it seizes to ever since we went inside. Feeding off of a holographic meatloaf coming from a glowing screen. We have a real-life Karen acting as a nightlight in our rooms.

The COVID lockdown made us listen to music — both for better, for worse. For one, it made us pass most days. You could say the same for any sort of media: film, mixed media art, or whatever pre-Covid activity that sprung up during our time in isolation. For music, however, there was an uptick of new listeners that made others Wheel-of-Fortune the fuck out of their music discoveries in sites like RateYourMusic, Bandcamp, or even Sophie's Floorboard. We've continued to expand and became more open change of opinions and be less of a jackass towards someone else's opinions. On second thought, our opinions have been catalogued, leaving more notes than actual footprints of our previous listens. Our new discoveries made new bands and re-emerging bands, bands who faded to obscurity, crawl back in the surface with newfound interest from younger listeners (ie Panchiko, Jai Paul, and Dean Blunt) and this glowing, previously unseen and unexpected overwhelming support from fans of departed artists (ie SOPHIE, MF DOOM)

For the other, we've hogged gratuitous amounts of media, resulting into losing our primary direction as to how we want to consume our media based on the preconceived notions of what we want in our art. There is goodness in becoming directionless when you think about it, but there comes a cost to our identity as music listeners. Instead, we end up widening our tangents, falling in endless rabbit holes, having zero chances to emerge from the surface. In fact, i refuse to call it a "rabbit hole" instead i'd rather call it a "pipeline" of sorts — transitioning casual music fans into a full on, different, unique versions of themselves that would define them when laws and protocols have eased in the outside world. Our act of staying online has either made most of us break our character or enliven our past selves. The music pipeline is now more apparent, stretching the norms of what was once alienated by a silent majority, but now accepted as an acceptable form of expression. The more music we are exposed to has made casual listeners stranged out or react in ways that our personality have betrayed us or deemed not as acceptable to them. Still, not changing anything that was prominent pre-pandemic. Liberal cop behavior is stronger, now more dangerous than it ever was once perceived by the outside world.

HIGH FIDELITY? NO, THANK YOU.

Imagine a situation inside of a record, pre-pandemic of course, where you do not feel like lifting a record out from the shelf, instead, you window shop just for the sake of windowshopping. Capital and media made us think that going to record shops is a semi-productive activity. The age of discovery has died ever since High Fidelity romanticized and normalized the incelage of horny record diggers. Does this movie age well, yeah sure it does, for old 90s nerds at least. But did it translate well over in the past 20 or more years of events and tragedies that unfolded in pre-9/11 America? No it didn't. It was an age of free expression, only liberals would dream of whenever they take a sip of Guinness beer in their favorite dive bar.

Mind you, over a couple of months ago, it was my only chance in seeing why this movie was the talk of the town back when it was released. There's music, yeah, and attractive leading leadies, yeah, it has everything a 90s kid would love to salivate and drop their gonads over while they watch this movie. I obviously did not live to see the movie on opening day but i could imagine the scent that came out of that movie theater with attendees donning windbreakers and The Who shirts with popcorn dressing stains on their plastic cups. If there was a Filipino counterpart to this movie, i'd bet corporate champions Eraserheads and Rivermaya would soundtrack their music over and have either Tado or have Boy 2 Quizon, but i sense it to age like milk more than it could age like fine wine due to the senseless jokes one can execute in a Cubao or Cartimar record store.

John Cusack is obviously the incel in question here: a damaged, vengeful ex who constantly fails to live his partner's expectations and weaponizes his personality over the situations that has nothing to do with his interests. I spent the entire time being absolutely disgusted over the spineless responses of John Cusack's leading character. The movie then treads on flashbacks with John Cusack's failed relationships and what he could do to move on from each and one of them. If i could stand a SONA for 3 hours then I can't stand John Cusack being the dull entry point to incel, making more reasons why you should hate record store clerks who don't give an iota of shits to someone's inviting rapport. High Fidelity is opium for massive music circle jerks who can't take a single breathe of fresh air or a single quota of touching grass. There's more targeting weak and inferior guys and hot women who dump dumb overconfident dudebros more than the actual "music recs" in the entire movie. The more I think about this movie, the more I realize how our personality is in line towards Dick, the record store being unmercifully dunked on by the movie's two leading characters. He's an angel in the world of cynical bastards, witnessing both demons pitchforking record store customers in the ass while they're purchasing the latest Sonic Youth album.

I believe that Jack Black, the dark horse of High Fidelity, has a pleasing personality more than an irritating demeanor due to this behavior in the record store. In fact, outside of the record store, Jack Black doesn't seem to take the business is your pleasure act pretty seriously. Unlike John Cusack's character he brought his obsession over involving a record in an important memory/point of his life. There is so much stuff that has happened outside of the record store, so much for Rolling Stone and NME being the bible of music at the time, endlessly christening and shilling artists that believe to become the second coming of the Beatles. The music references here however are treated as fluff than it is a mechanism that would drive the senseless plot forward. If anything, there are events pointed out in the event that doesn't have anything to do with the life of the characters.

If anything, this movie did a great job at capturing the feeling of music bros being dumped on the wayside by a mature set of characters and how their current conditions aren't perfumed by the studios' liking of having to Cinderella story the shit out of a bunch of normal record store owners. The reality is in the reaction of one's social capital being invaded and we're here to witness how those reactions panned out in 2021. This is a villainous depiction of music nerds being the salt of the earth, the bane of all media discussion, still reflective of the insufferable salt of cyberspace found in music forums like 4chan and RYM. High Fidelity is a pipeline of 90s musicology, a dreaded fever dream of an owner waiting for the decade to end, trends ossifying and re-emerged by the hands of nostalgia-savvy individuals. It was, at its time, every music-movie nerd's excuse equivalent of Scott Pilgrim VS. The World. There are memories worth remembering and cherishing, and this movie isn't one of them.

DEAN BLUNT, WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK

In the past two weeks I've been fancying myself into sitting down and listening to different projects from the ever elusive, UK-based sound artist Dean Blunt. The first time i chanced upon his music wasn't too long ago - albeit a recent one in the time of COVID - was when I randomly stumbled upon his records at a Spotify recommendations section under John Maus (yeah lol i know the implications whenever his name is mentioned) - but then i was enamored by his online presence so quickly I put everything down and dedicated an hour or two researching about this man's music.

Other than the fact that his album "The Redeemer" wasn't the best record to start off in journeying through his discography: ending up disgusted and borderline bored even and I was more likely to lambast this record's aimless, pretentious art-pop inflections. By the end of the day, it was a preference long solidified by his undying fanbase. According to his hardcore fans, the music isn't really music, evaluating it as a free form of sound art, rather than sticking to a structured and conventional cues; the genre is nullified by most analysts of the arts. The growing interest of the general public towards Dean Blunt's pranks and antics have long appealed to my tastes as a chaotic neutral individual. Pranks that are well executed to piss off UK gallery connoisseurs and entertain ironic attendees who'd shit on the art piece rather than participate in it.

More of the resources I've found about Dean Blunt online: numerous aliases and collaborations that lasted around almost 2 decades. The most notable of all them, at least for my money, are either Hype Williams, a duo consisting of Dean and frequent collaborator Inga Copeland, and Babyfather, an art performance parodizing the pirate radio culture in the UK. I have not delved enough in Blunt's body of work to evaluate everything and what i could synthesize from it. For now, I enjoyed it as a form of entertainment. Well, color me impressed because Dean Blunt isn't clowning around, he, in fact, makes blissful and transcendental music from left to right.

Dean Blunt was the only few artists that made me want to binge on their discography. His movements in his music has attracted this pesky listener who thinks that being mysterious is a plus. I mean, look at me who thinks The Paul Institute, Panchiko, and Burial are the greatest artists that have walked the face of the earth.

The most I've enjoyed from Dean Blunt's discography are his mixtapes and collaborations: preferably his Soul Fire and ZUSHI, both of which were packaged as B-sides or supplemental releases rather than major releases such as the Babyfather project or the Black Metal releases. His knack for blurring the lines between genres still fascinate me as of this writing, and it continues to amaze me how he doesn't seize to compromise his art, he's here to prove a point and it sells quite well despite the lack of direction in his music. Blunt's music has more aggressive and hazy texture than the hollow, wide, soulless structure of art-pop/hypnagogic pop released today. He creates terrains from the rubble of his country's current shortcomings. The music overlaps the actual intentions with abstract concepts, becoming deconstructed down the line. In Babyfather, noise music coincides with Blunt's amateurish rapping. In Black Metal, Blunt isolates himself along with the assisted skeletal guitar playing. Both projects throwing all tropes in a vaccum alongside Blunt, who he himself would sought to become a personification of a musical void.

Dean Blunt is an entity that wishes to become one person, but no, this isn't a figure in a specific art form; this isn't Banksy, this isn't Bob Ong, this is made by one person, clearly it is if you listen closely, and it's been entrancing me ever since his presence was felt on the horizons of the internet. Sungho isn't a bad neighbor. You recall complaining to him at some point, amidst trying to focus on a report you had to write up for work, and he apologized for the noise. Many times. He seemed embarrassed, never realizing how thin the walls were in the apartment building, and promised to keep the noise levels down. These promises would last only about a week. Their significant other was quite the complete opposite of Sungho, a loud individual. From what you were aware, the two didn't live together. His significant other would come over daily to stay or visit.

As much as they were loud, they didn't seem to like you either. Looks of disdain thrown whenever you happen to cross them in the hallway, being in the same elevator cart, or when Sungho was trying to be a good neighbor by greeting you. They would pull him away immediately, putting his attention back on them. Sometimes you thought that they were being loud on purpose, knowing that you were next door, and very well aware of the complaints. The reason why? You had no idea. The best guess you could come up with was that they saw you as a threat to their relationship. Which was ridiculous. You hardly knew the male nor could the both of you call each other friends.

Sometimes Sungho left fruits or drinks at your door with little notes of apologies for their rowdiness. And for their significant other's behavior. For the most part, you bared through it or simply did all your work within the hours at your office now and prayed that tiredness would consume you once you hit your bed, blocking out any disturbances.

So, life goes on.

One weekend, you just happened to get home from going out with your friends. It was late, past midnight. You heard arguing through the walls between Sungho and their significant other.

"You're always like this, Sungho!"

Immediately, you felt very uncomfortable entering your apartment. It wasn't something you wanted to hear or should be hearing. Not that you could help it either since you lived next door. You backed yourself outside, considering going to the balcony on the floor for a bit. Stepping back outside of your door, their argument becomes muffled.

Why couldn't the landlord just keep the damn wall consistency the same?

Suddenly, Sungho's door flies open followed by their significant other storming out. You jump up out of surprise, the noise scaring you. They're heading down the hallway, to the elevators, without looking back. Sungho appears at his door not too long after, holding it open.

"Wait-" he calls out to them, his voice faltering.

The male notices you then, staring with wide eyes at him. At that moment, you were able to get a full picture of his current position. The hurt in his eyes.

"Oh...y/n. Are you here to complain about the noise again? I'm really sorry-"

"Uh, no! No, not at all. See, I just was returning home now. Don't worry about it," you said, awkwardly blinking a few times, reaching to grab for your keys from your bag once again.

"Um, I'm heading inside now! Okay, bye!"

You immediately opened your door again, rushing, running into your living room. The door shuts behind automatically and you let out a sigh of relief. You felt bad for suddenly running away, but you weren't about to ask or give relationship advice if Sungho wasn't asking for it. Besides, what if it was only a lover's quarrel?

They'll probably make up soon. Talk about a rough night…

Then the realization set in. The apartment would be definitely quiet for at least another day. A smile rises to your face.

What a horrible thing to be happy over...after seeing your neighbor fight with their significant other. Then again, they weren't all that nice to me.

You shrugged, waving the events aside, calling it a night, enjoying the peaceful silence...only with the slight remaining, lingering tension in the air. After you showered, brushed your teeth, and changed into pajamas, you immediately laid down on your bed. Pulling the covers over, you found yourself thinking. Staring up to the ceiling of your room in the dark.

That argument sounded bad though...ugh. None of your business, y/n. Go to sleep. They'll probably be fine tomorrow…

The next day, as you predicted, was quiet. That you could hear a pin drop from down the hallway. You enjoyed it, a Sunday afternoon peace. It allowed you to catch up on work, eat, watch T.V, write poetry...overall without any disturbances. Sungho, your neighbor, was long forgotten from your mind.

The thing is, it goes on for the next week. You weren't worried about it at all because you were swamped with work. The next reports and presentations came with close deadlines. The silence was appreciated, allowing you to focus; you got lost in piles of work and many cups of coffee.

Worry about your neighbor only returned on the brief encounters when the both of you were heading to work in the mornings. Sungho still greeted you, but only with a brief nod and face expressionless. They would walk ahead first, not bothering to see even if you returned the greeting or not. Sometimes you heard him leaving earlier than you and now you couldn't help but to wonder what his occupation was.

The week turns into two and three. He stops greeting you at some point, or maybe he wasn't very aware of his surroundings; his whole aura was different. Sungho usually would at least do his hair before going out and dress somewhat decently. Now it was always a mess, his bangs left down to cover his eyes, matching with black attire. You saw him up close in his current condition when you were returning to the apartment building one afternoon. The male had collided into you, by accident. Turning around immediately on the impact, once you had regained your balance, you're faced with eyes that were written with sleepless nights, dark circles prominent. At least, this time, he mumbles an apology before moving on.

By the time it reaches the end of the month, your workload becomes lighter for the year, you find more time thinking about the current situation of your neighbor. You called up one of your best friends at your workplace one night. It wasn't the first time you discussed your neighbor with them.

"Yoojung, it's the end of the month. I haven't seen his significant other in awhile. As much as I enjoy the silence, I hate seeing Sungho this dead," you said, a hand gripping onto the balcony railing out of nervousness.

“Note check. You don’t even know the guy. Why exactly are you so worried?” Yoojung on the other end replies.

“Well…I don’t have an answer, actually. I don’t know why I’m worried. Can’t I just be a good neighbor?” you replied.

“Anyways, you’re coming to the group outing for dinner next week right? On Saturday? Please tell me you didn’t forget or you plan on cancelling. We hardly ever get a chance for everyone to come together again.”

“Alright, thanks so much for the advice...I guess...and keep your pants on, Yoojung. Of course I’m coming. Good night,” you scowled at him.

You hung up the phone then, not giving a chance for the other to say his goodbye. As much as he was your best friend, he could be a pain in the ass. Turning around, you exited out the balcony to return back to your apartment for the day.

So much for calling it a night.

Once you make it back, you’re greeted with Sungho at your door, hunched over, using an arm to keep his weight up against the wall. First thought that came to mind: he’s unwell and he came to ask you for help? You immediately approach the male, only to be hit by a smell of alcohol and you jolt back. The second thought you had, only confirmed: he’s drunk.

“Sungho?! Are you okay?” you asked nervously, tapping his shoulder lightly.

The male looks up to you, quite confused.

“y/n? Oh. Yeah...I’m fine. Just trying to get into my apartment...but the key.... doesn’t seem to fit…” Sungho said, words spoken slowly as he tries to stand upright.

“Did...the landlord change the locks?”

“No, no. The landlord didn’t. You’re at the wrong apartment, this one is mine. Uh, do you need help?” you said, raising an eyebrow at him.

“Ah...well, that makes...sense now,” Sungho said, a drunk written smile appearing on his face.

“No, it’s okay...I’m always disturbing you... I’m really sorry...Have...a good night, y/n.”

It’s the first time you’ve seen him smile in such a long time. Of course, it only happens to be when he’s not sober. Also, you’re very aware that drunk people do need help but always deny it. You watch as he turns around, folding your arms and counting down in your head.

The male collapses on the ground, completely knocked out from the alcohol in his system. You blew up at your hair, huffing then, staring down at his figure on the ground.

This night just got a whole lot longer.

The Spirit of The Dark Kingdom Chapter 10

Last time on The Spirit of The Dark Kingdom, the doctor and Anika were preparing everything to make sure the doctor's plan would go smoothly. Once they were set, Anika had seemed to pick up a little bit of cold feet, not wanting to leave the doctor and all she had with him. The doctor had felt the same way, not wanting Anika or Hanabi to leave, but he was focused more on not losing them both instead.

Knowing they weren't going to get anywhere with how they were feeling, the doctor decided to slow down a bit and comfort Anika before leaving the cell. After calming her down, he decided to officially make his move and kiss her for the first time. Sharing a deep, loving kiss, honest final words of affection were said from both the doctor and Anika, finally gathering themselves and heading out of their cell to escape.

During their evacuation, sneaking through the halls, they hear the words of the blacksmith and a maid, the words seem to hit the doctor hard. Continuing their escape plan, they make it to the courtyard with the gates.

Carefully pushing a little further, they almost reach their breaking point, but are caught by King Aireth from above by just the snag of hair and coat. Making it to the gates, they share their final moments, saying their goodbyes and getting ready to save Anika and Hanabi, but before they can, King Aireth and his soldiers surround them and attack. Anika and Hanabi escape, but the doctor gets captured along with Zero and placed into different cells.

Anika and Hanabi are now forever banished from Dark Kingdom, with the execution still going on for the doctor, what shall become of them and the children of Anika? Only time can tell their fates.

Anika had kept running with Hanabi even though they passed the premise lines of the kingdom. Although all of the kingdoms by now have heard word of the commotion in The Demon Realm from The Dark Kingdom, Anika had more than one realm to choose to go to, two of them use to be her home. Looking at her options carefully, she goes to the realm that defines her nature from the day she moved to The Demon Realm, The Realm of Fallen Angels. Hoping for the best, she heads there quickly.

When she arrives, she comes across fallen angels, some more beautiful or darker than others. They look to her and approach with a vicious aura, hinting that they don't want her around.

Anika:*Hello...can any of you help me...?

Fallen Angel 1:*Help? You? Ha! Why would a fallen angel as dark as I help someone who just arrived here?

Anika:*I have my daughter with me and-

Fallen Angel 1:* I'm not stupid. I can see the child. So what?

Anika:* I'm on my own with my daughter and not being followed. I need a place to stay until I can fly on my own... I want my daughter to be safe and-

Fallen Angel 2:*You must be stupider than I thought you were. A child and a broken girl like you? Safe? You know what this realm is like don't you? This is where the broken, fallen, corrupted, dark, and shattered angels go~ You're lucky that we aren't the worst type of angel. Your baby would've been torn to shreds in seconds. With you bound to the ground, you might as well just go to The Demon Realm and let the new king kill you right then and there.

Anika:*I'm not stupid enough to back there....

Fallen Angel 2:* I can't tell. Who's the father of that baby anyways? Are you a human just trying to leave because of baby daddy drama or what~?

Anika:*No, I know my daughter's father..

Fallen Angel 2:*Then go to him and leave us alone! Isn't it obvious we don't need a lost cause like you here?!

Anika:*More than obvious.

Fallen Angel 2:**grabs Anika by the neck and throws her on the ground*

Hanabi:**Starts crying, nuzzling Anika*

Anika:**comforts Hanabi to calm her down. She finally spreads her wings, wincing in pain. Her wings are full of arrows from when she was about to fly out of the Dark Kingdom, but decided to run because she was hit before she could*

Fallen Angel 1:*Oh, now she wants to spread her wings to show she's no human~? What difference does it make, she's weak~

Anika:**a red aura surrounds her* It makes a ton of difference, especially when you see I won't fall to you.

Fallen Angel 2:*Try me~ I'll knock you down again~

Anika:*I'll get right back up too.

Fallen Angel 3:**arrives from the commotion, but gasps when she sees Anika* Anika?!

Anika:**gasps, recognizing the fallen angel* Nani...?

Nani:*Anika, I can't believe it's you!

Anika:*Heh, you're looking straight at me aren't you?

Nani:**giggles* True. You look terrible. Here, let's get you and the baby in your arms away from these bullies.

Nani flies Anika and Hanabi away from the fallen angels after making them back off. She brings them to a clear, empty area with a fountain with gently flowing black water with a figure of a beautiful fallen angel that the water is flowing from. Nani gently hold's Anika's shoulders to calm her down. When Anika is calm, Nani gently speaks to her.

Nani:*Anika, what happened to you? Who's baby is this you're holding?

Anika:*It's too much for me to say without not being able to finish telling you... So much has happened and I don't know what to do... This is my daughter Hanabi...

Nani:*Well, you're baby is cute even though she has one red eye. I won't make you explain, but I at least want you to try to say as much as you can.

Anika:*Nani, look, I'll tell you later, now, I just need help getting a home for my baby and I to live in...

Nani:*I figured that's what you needed, especially if you're trying to move back here to live.. You know that you must see the king first in order for you to live here though and in whichever section of fallen angels he gives you.

Anika:*I know that I do. Can you please take me to him...?

Nani:*Anika, I don't he'll accept you back here if something went on with you...

Anika:*I have to try anyways... for my baby...

Nani:*Well...ok. Come on.

Nani then takes Anika and Hanabi to the main point of The Realm of Fallen Angels. At the main point is a tall arc angel with grey wings, cracks on its face, black eyes and veins on its face, holding a heart that's in shards. They go inside the beautifully mixed fallen angel and find the king in his throne.

Nani:*King Arc-Illis...?

King Arc-Illis:*Yes dear fallen angel?

Nani:*I bring a past resident who left us. She wishes to live with us again and have a home for her and her child.

King Arc-Illis:*Oh? *looks to Anika, slightly recognizing her* What is their names? I'll have to look into her memory and background in order for her to live here.

Anika:*M-My name is Anika. I carry with me my daughter Hanabi...

King Arc-Illis:*Hmm... Your memory and your child's memory please.

Anika:*Whenever you're ready your majesty...

King Arc-Illis gently places his finger on Hanabi's forehead, looking through her memory. he jolts from what he sees, becoming on edge. Not liking what he sees so far, he gently places his finger on Anika's forehead, looking through her memory, hissing aggressively. he and King Aireth are on extremely bad terms with eachother, and the fact she was involved with him, on top of that, gave birth to his children and brought one with her displeases him highly. He glares at Anika sharply.

King Arc-Illis:* Go. Don't ever come back here to this realm ever again or else I will have the corrupted tear you and your child to shreds.

Nani:*Sir! What did you see? What displeases you? Why can't she stay...?

King Arc-Illis:*She and her child are nothing but red flags toward our realm. I will not allow the peasant play toy and unidentified corrupt stay here. She is not to come back as well.

Nani:**looks to Anika* Anika..what happened...?

Anika:**begins tearing up*I...*she can't face Nani and tell her what happened, looking back to King Arc-Illis* Please sir, let at least my child stay here..I wish for her a positive well being... I won't cause trouble or harm-

King Arc-Illis:*NO! I will not allow either of you two to stay here for a minute longer! Nani, you are not allowed to touch her or her child. Leave immediately and you will not be punished. Your friend here is a criminal, no good, and worse than our shattered fallen angels. There is no room for a thing such as her and her child.

Nani:**tears up, tears falling down her face, she looks at Anika once more, then leaves*

King Arc-Illis:*Leave. Now.

Anika:**she can't stop the tears running down her face*Y-Yes your majesty...
