Are you proud of me, Father? Galadriel asks quietly.
Her father turns slightly, and Galadriel looks into his eyes. There's desperation in her words, desperation she masks so skillfully; she searches for something, searches for a slightest hint.
Her father's eyes are full of sad, mute grief. He steps closer. Say you're proud of me, she begs, whispering. Say all of this wasn't in vain. Say this had a meaning. Say I didn't leave you for nothing.
He's by her side, and Galadriel sobs when he cups her cheek with his hand - a gesture so familiar, yet so strange all at once; she leans into his touch and cries, having no strenght to resist left. He tugs her into her embrace, hugging her shoulders, hushing quiet reassurances. I love you, yeldenya, he whispers, and presses a kiss to her forehead. I love you. I never stopped loving you, not even once.
There's no meaning, she sobs, no meaning to it all, no meaning to go forward - Father, how can I go forth? How can I live on?
Go home with me, her father says. Go home with me - your mother forgave you, and your brother laughs again; go home with me, yeldenya, it's that easy - please!...
It would be easy, Galadriel thinks, to give in to his wish; to bow her head and sail West, to kneel before her mother and to cry with her brother; and for a second, she wishes to do so.
For a second, her father hopes.
For a second, they're back in Araman, and Galadriel pulls back. Forgive me, she whispers. Forgive me.
She hugs her father again, and tries not to think about the quickly passing night - tries not to think about the tickling time.
Yeldenya, her father repeats, rocking her back and forth. Yeldenya.
Galadriel tries not to think about the sadness with which he said that word.
