I love that I spent more time thinking about the politics of the world I'm creating than about the magic creatures and magical system
And guess which one is more important to the plot?
You guessed it, the magic creatures and the magic, politics are just a subplot and I wanna kill myself

I kind of want to throw my entire novel concept out the window because I dislike world-building.

me: oh gosh. i dont want to just use boring latin words for all this crap
me: wait! but if i create a few simple conlang rules, and use them on the latin, then they will no longer be boring latin words, but something different! excellent. this will be easy
me tabbing over to look at a list of phonetic symbology:

Do not tag my original art with your ocs or fandom tags, I find it extremely offensive and dismissive of the time and work I put into my art.

I hate that in the popular vision of biopunk, "biological machines" and biotech look like gross body horror nonsensical pieces of crap with no rhyme or reason

(bioforges from Orion's Arm)
When the most efficient "biomachines" we know, able to turn mere air water and sunlight into all sorts of useful products, look like this:

Notes on food, fish, and translation errors.
Hán and Ankiusk are good friends, but during the time that they’re getting their medical certifications they’re both still learning the Galactic Standardized language. That combined with Ankiusk’s lack of a jaw to make the click (!) letter, there are a lot of communication issues.
And I mean… what do you call an alien animal in an alien language so that a third alien can relate it to yet another alien animal. Language may be evil but comparative xenobiology is even more so.

I love that Calamity introduces us to the city of Avalir as like the epitome of a wonderful advanced civilization in an age of opulence and yet towards the end of episode one so much about what the city represents feels so hollow. Yes the city is still beautiful and far ahead of anything that we have seen in any of the three main campaigns but it’s really small things like they can’t grow real flowers in their gardens or the people experience weather for a very short period of their entire lives
Even the people themselves (at least those in higher society) have such extreme contempt for people who worship and champion the gods. I cringed during the entire scene when Purvan was present at the gala and he was turned into a spectacle of how quaint and backwards people who don’t live on Avalir are and was being mocked because of his status as Champion of the Raven Queen and no one even gave a shit if they were rude to this one man who was just doing his job because they wanted to have a dick measuring contest against a goddess who frankly has more important things to do than appease the whimsies of vapid mortals
Really it’s like what Brennan and Travis say at the beginning of the episode: it’s a beautiful day in Avalir but not on the inside

hogwarts schooling is so confusing it’s somehow simultaneously incredibly difficult and way too easy. they have to write their essays on parchment and are given measurements for how long it should be which is crazy bc you’re gonna have essays that are wildly different lengths depending on handwriting size like that makes no sense. and then they have a brand new teacher for DADA every single year and they all seem to just wildly change the curriculum however they please? like remus and hagrid can just DECIDE to bring in live (DANGEROUS) magical creatures for them to handle? the teacher decides on the books for the class too?? like do they not have a national curriculum they have to adhere to? and their solution to a student wanting to take every class isn’t to provide additional private lessons or anything like that (which they do seem to offer cause harry has private lessons) or even just to tell her she can’t no ofc not they just allow her to TIME TRAVEL. also they literally always have SO much homework why does every class give them so much homework every single day?? why are they ALWAYS writing an essay? do they get graded on those cause it doesn’t really seem like it?? but then no one ever really seems to fail?
and don’t even get me started on them only having ONE teacher for every single subject for the ENTIRE SCHOOL they’re teaching 20+ classes by themselves !?!?!

Nakey version and Lore below the cut in case people dont like alien boobs

"Humans* were a bipedal species that rose from the depths of the glacial caverns to colonise the surface of their frozen world. Their ancestors had splayed feet for the snow and horizontal pupils for scanning the ice sheets, lined by dark markings to protect their eyes from the glare of the light scattered everywhere. Like most ancient fauna, they were typically dark in color to shield against the ultraviolet rays of their unstable sun.
Human hair evolved from sensory tentacles that helped navigate the underground, covered in bioluminescent photophores to signal to companions. It's not uncommon to still have feeling tentacles above the eyebrow and around the mouth.
Like most fauna, humans were simultaneous hermaphrodites. They possessed four mammary glands—believed to have eventually influenced the association of the number Four with abundance and later gluttony.
Most human societies frequently modified their bodies, decorating themselves in body paint, with any "impurities" often cast out and replaced with cybernetics. Sometimes, appendages were deliberately removed and replaced in the belief that an artificial body inspired less attachment. Children had their ears cropped in anticipation for frequent mask usage: a necessity in the iterator cities, where higher elevation means thinner air. Surface dwellers were able to get by without masks for a while until the air below became suffocating with the increasing humidity, not to mention a breeding ground for air and waterborne disease.
Most masks double function as headphones and AR interfaces. The modern human would have experienced the world in a way only accessible by their mask; an AR internet that disappeared along with the rest of them."
*I call them humans because there arent any real names for them. The basic etymology for 'human' is 'of the earth,' and it could be assumed that they had their equivalent. But im not gonna conlang for rain world nuh uh so yall get the translation instead

everybody’s always complaining about wot’s lengthy descriptions like speak for yourselves,,, I was personally on the edge of my seat everytime the characters travelled to a new city and sighed in relief when robert finally started describing the food and popular fashion, detailed the city’s unique architecture and the kinds of tiles used for roofing, described the weather, the various modes of transportation, gave a rundown on the governing system, and explored the endemic social tensions. then I would reread those descriptions all over again.

Chrome Butterflies Worldbuilding:
Prison systems have been replaced with entertainment farming, with varying levels of danger, with short appearances on reality TV for low-level offenders, up to gladiator battles as the harshest sentence.
These gladiators are called Rankers and can earn their freedom if they become popular or high ranking enough. The top 1% are basically A list celebrities.
Drinking alcohol has mainly been replaced by a synthetic drug called Ethendust, which can be consumed in several ways and has the effect of alcohol but without the hangover.
The Grid refers to the AI that basically runs society. Physical labor is pretty much the only job being done by humans. The Grid runs the economy, government, communication, entertainment industry. Basically anything you don't need a physical body for.
Body alteration/augmentation is very common. Sometimes in response to physical disabilities, but also for convenience, appearance, entertainment. Also done against people's wills quite often, mainly to prisoners like Rankers.
This body alteration requires the Stemlink, basically a chip in people's brains that connects them to The Grid.
Gridders are a cult that is spreading that worships The Grid. They try to connect with it as much as possible, generally through as much augmentation to their brains and bodies as possible. Basically cyborgs. Also tend to be addicted to "griddle", a hallucinogenic drug that makes people suggestible.
Blooders are the opposite of the Gridders and want to dismantle The Grid and return to the old ways. It's an underground movement and very secretive because they're basically seen as terrorists and getting caught basically forces you to become a Ranker and either die, or survive but now you've got the Stemlink in your skull against your will.
Separate countries aren't a thing anymore but there are rumors of a place without The Grid.
Climate change has gotten really bad but The Grid is getting it under control... maybe.
People mainly spend their time working physically demanding jobs to the point of exhaustion. To cope with this, many use a Stemlink to let The Grid control their bodies while simultaneously entertaining them with Ranker Battles or shows or whatever.
Rankers and other prisoners are free to do what they like with their free time and aren't contained in cells. They're provided pods to live in, which are basically small, bleak studio apartments with nothing to do but watch entertainment. They're free to leave and wander, since escape is impossible with the Stemlink.
Much of the world's biodiversity is gone. A region will have three main crops or food sources and very little variety in food.
There is an upper class but no one knows much about them. They mainly appear in commercials promoting certain forms of entertainment.
People go missing all the time and there's not really any recourse except to report it to The Grid.
School is not really a thing. Neither is voting. Travel is very rare.
Currency is all digital and people are paid through the grid. But there's a thriving black market where everything is traded through barter.
Also all these names for shit is just holding names I'll come up with something better
