hey this is gonna be super random but just wanted to say fuck the loki series, i'm glad i'm not alone in thinking that shit sucked and treated his character so dirty. i'm quite past my mcu phase at this point, i still like some of the movies but that show was one of my last straws. i used to be a big fan of loki and still love the character but knew at that point that disney was not concerned with doing him any justice anytime soon :/
anyway random rant over now lol, hope you have a great day/night friend ^o^
This made my entire day, you have no idea 🖤💚. I'm so so glad I'm not the only one who feels like this.
I hate what they did to the character and the entire franchise for that matter. I tried to watch season one of the loki series but I just couldn't. I didn't even finish it. It was SO out of character imo. I truly don't get why people love it so much. Loki is my all time favourite character but I just pretend 2013 was his last canon appearance and ignore the rest. Even ragnarok, taika waitity made the characters grotesque and it all went downhill from there.
Thank you sm for this again, hope you have an amzing day/night too ^-^

I gotta rant a bit about Loki
I have not seen season 2 of his show, but season one killed my love for MCU Loki
Let's start with the movies. The first two Thor movies are usually regarded as some of the worst MCU films (especially the second), but what I like about them is at least Loki has a consistent character arc throughout them (along with the first Avengers film). Loki learns that he's a part of a race that is treated like monsters on Asgard, and this destroys him. He tries to off himself at the end of the first Thor movie, only to end in the hands of Thanos. He went through so much shit throughout all three of these movies, and Thor 2 ends with him on Asgard's throne, leaving the audience wondering what he will do now he got what he thought he wanted.
Then Thor 3 happened. Look, I like Taika Waititi, and Thor 3 is an enjoyable film, but it destroyed Loki's character arc. He's just a silly guy now. Why does he try to backstab Thor? Because he's silly, no other reason. Plus, after Odin has lied to Loki for his entire life, he tells him that he loves him and magically all that trauma about him being a frost giant is gone! In fact, I think the MCU has forgotten that Loki is a frost giant at all! (Shut up, I know about What If). Ok, but what about the next movie. Thanos has finally come and now Loki can confront the person that gave him the mind stone to take over Earth- and Loki's dead.
I really don't like how they killed Loki. Loki is not a character you kill off to show how dangerous this villain will be. Mostly because the movies had forgotten to finish his character arc, but I guess everyone had forgotten he had one at this point.
Did anyone cry when he died? I sure as hell didn't, and I'm a crybaby when it comes to my faves dying. I was more shocked, and I convinced myself that this was another fake out. Honestly it may seem like cope with all these fans believing that he is still alive, but he has faked his death before, and nobody wanted to believe that his story will end in a dumb way that felt like the writers not believing that he mattered as a character.
But he did, and now we have season 1 of Loki. I honestly thought the writers realized how loved Loki is and they would finally finish his character arc. I mean, the show takes place after Avengers 1, and that's when Loki still hated himself for being a frost giant.
But no, Loki is silly again. Thor 3 has really ruined Loki. I understand that the first 2 Thor movies weren't as beloved, but I loved all the Loki scenes. There's a reason why his character became so popular despite the movies not.
Anyway, the first season of Loki isn't all bad. I love that it gave Loki a friend, and Mobius plays off him really well. And... yeah, I think that's all I like about it.
Now on to everything else. To start off, I really don't like Sylvie x Loki. Not only does it give me incestuous vibes, I really don't think Loki should have a love interest at this point (I don't ship Mobius x Loki too because of this point, but I will admit they have way more chemistry than Sylvie x Loki). But as I said, the writers didn't care about his character arc and so they forced a romance they had no time to build up, leaving me confused on why they had them fall in love in one episode, and ohh boy, the episode is super fucking dumb.
They established that you can do anything in an apocalypse situation and there would be no anomalies detected, SO WHY DOES LOKI AND SYLVIE FALLING IN LOVE CAUSE AN ANOMALY??? Because the plot said so, I love lazy writing in the show with my favorite character!!
God, and there's the queer baiting. Now, I can excuse the train scene because daddy Disney can't have shows say the word bi, but the scene where Loki asks the other Lokis if they ever seen another female Loki, and they say no???? WTF!?!? Is Loki gender fluid or not! Also, this is a stupid ass line that didn't need to be in the show? There are an infinite amount of universes, but only 1 female Loki who got caught by the TVA?? That doesn't make sense!
I'm done with Loki and I'm done with the MCU. The only good MCU show I've seen was WandaVision, and they still botched the ending and had a horrible follow up movie.
I heard Loki season 2 was better, but I still don't know why I should even bother

Who is more villainous – Anakin Skywalker\Darth Vader or MCU!Loki?
There’re two trends in Marvel and Star Wars media – ‘Loki is such a bad person, worst of all’ and ‘Anakin never did anything wrong, he was the best Jedi ever’. Both have sad and tragic backstories, both turn bad, both iconic villains. So I decided to have my own small investigation – is Disney justified in their attitude?
What are Loki’s crimes?
1.Setting up his brother (coronation situation) – ‘to delay his idiotic rule for a while longer’, as Thor obviously wasn’t ready. Evidence from the movie show that he didn’t even want them to go down to Jotunheim – he expected to be stopped by Heimdall and even sent for a guard to tell Odin about their departure [1 - 4.12]. For the sake of ‘Loki making bad decisions’ – count.
2. Usurped the throne – no! Frigga gave it to him [2]. Don’t count.
3. Almost killing Thor – frankly, when he gives Thor a slap with the Destroyer, it looked as if he wasn’t trying to actively kill him, more like lashed out. Still, count.
4. Killing Laufey, his biological father – count.
5. Attempted genocide of the Jotuns – * sarcasm* nevermind that he was doing exactly the same thing as Odin (slow murder is still murder. I’d say Loki even shows more mercy – at least he’d kill quickly, not slowly making the planet decay for a thousand years.). Not trying to say the idea was good, just pointing out the hypocrisy in- and out-universe. Count.
6. New York – in ‘Captain America: Civil War’ we learn that 74 people were lost during the invasion. ‘80 people in two days’ per Natasha are mostly on Fury – Loki had no way of knowing the place would be destroyed. It’s clear from the movie that the facility was already unstable due to tinkering with the Tesseract. Why didn’t Fury stop the experiments and start evacuating people? And the most important factor – mind influence [3, also], though it’s unclear to what extent, and coercion. For the sake of ‘Loki killed innocent people’ – count 154 ( + Coulson, but looking at 7 seasons of ‘Agents of SHIELD’, I find it hard to count him in.).
7. ‘Loki killed his mother’ bullshit – all he did was lead the Kurse out of the prison a little bit faster. Anyway Malekith already knew where the Aether was, it was him who killed her. Why not blame Thor or Odin with the same vigor as Loki? So, don’t count.
8. Loki usurped the throne – he offered Thor the throne, Thor refused [4]. Of course, he lied to Thor pretending to be Odin. I’ll give it half a count.
From the moment Taika Waititi came, it becomes hard to count, as he never cared about canonical portrayal of characters and actively hated Asgard [5]. Both Loki and Thor are absolutely different from as they were shown in pervious installments. I cannot value the movie where a) the director never watched any of previous films and b) improvised 80% of the movie [6]. But to see the full picture of Original Loki (however askew it becomes from this moment), I’ll be brief.
9. Loki being a bad king – paying attention to arts and giving freedom of self-governing to other planets is bad? Don’t count. And yes, Ragnarok is on Odin – Loki had no way of knowing about it, just as anyone else except Odin himself.
10. Loki betraying Thor all the time – this was improvised, such as ‘the snake story’ and ‘obedience disk’ moment [7], thus can’t be seen as direct continuation of character consistency. Don’t count.
I’m absolutely going to ignore whatever crap Michael Waldron did in the Loki series. I refuse to take into consideration the writing of a person who a) never watched an ounce of Loki-related media and b) just rehashed his own original script [8]. And anyway, he’s a Variant!Loki, not OG!Loki, they’re different people.
Sum up: kind of set up his brother, almost killed abovementioned brother, killed his biological father, attempted genocide, killed 154 people, kind of took the throne.
What are Darth Vader’s crimes? (I count everything that he’d done while he was still Anakin. No matter how Disney tries to pretend, Anakin IS Vader, not two separate entities [1].)
1.Slaughter of the whole Tusken camp, including women and children. Yes, they killed his mother. No, still murder. Count.
2. Torture of a prisoner in ‘The Clone Wars’ s2 ep.8. Good guys don’t torture anyone (yes, looking at you, TR!Thor). [Frankly, if we speak about TCW, the situation is a little bit difficult, because war. I pointed out the torture moment, because you can’t claim the character is perfectly good if he knowingly tortured someone with the Empire’s melody in the background.] Count.
3. Beating up his wife’s ex to the pulp in s.2 ep.4, knowing that she’s flirting with him not because she wants so, but because of the job. Count.
4. Slaughter of younglings in the Jedi Temple. Count.
5. Betrayal of the clones. Leading a brainwashed army (who presumably were his friends) to kill his family (Jedi). Count.
6. Choking his wife. Even better, pregnant wife (doesn’t make it acceptable if she weren’t, though.). Count.
7. Trying to kill his best friend / master / father figure, twenty years later succeeding. Count.
8. Slaughter of all the remaining Jedi across the galaxy, destruction of their culture. Yes, Palpatine manipulated him, but he could have helped Mace Windu [2], and none of that would’ve happened. He didn’t, thus making his choice clear. Count.
9. Maintaining the fascist regime across the galaxy for more than twenty years. Count.
10. Choking his subordinates. Count.
11. Trying to kill his Padawan (‘Rebels’, s.3 ep.22), almost succeeding. Count.
12. Maiming his own child and trying to kill him when he refused to join him. Count.
In case of Vader, lots of his kills remain off-screen, and here go speculations. Different sources (Reddit, ScreenRant, Youtube bloggers) name different numbers from 55 to 69 direct kills throughout all the movies\TV series (not counting tie-in comics). Everyone killed directly and indirectly off-screen hard to estimate – from what we know, numbers can go up to millions.
Sum up: killed at least hundreds of innocents throughout the galaxy, killed or tried to kill members of his family (at least 10 Jedi + Luke), children murders, tortures, completed genocide, maintained a fascistic government.
Interestingly, everything Vader is accused of – true. I couldn’t find any instance where he was blamed, but in fact was innocent. Yes, originally he was trying to save Padme. But a) at what cost? b) save her for her or for his own feelings for her? [3] He was choosing being as he was for many years, he wasn’t mind-controlled or anything.
Also it’s interesting to count the time span of their villainy. Loki committed his crimes in short period of time, after that going into ‘antihero’ mode, helping Thor more than harming. Anakin, on the other hand, took the chance of stopping his villainous acts only once – in ROTJ. Loki – roughly 2 years of his 1053-years-long life. Anakin – 23 years of his 45 years long life.
So, after this investigation, I believe the winner is obvious.
Before anyone says anything about my personal preferences and biases: I like both of them, but also try to be objective – both of them have done bad things, although they’re both sympathetic. Of course, we can delve into Loki’s and Anakin’s mental traumas – but I deliberately didn’t dive into this, because I went into ‘crimes are still crimes’ mode, and giving full psychological portraits wasn’t the goal anyway.
But for me it’s weird that a ‘family-friendly’ company tries to ‘forgive and forget’ Darth freaking Vader and simultaneously blames Loki of all the things possible, even those he’s never done. In terms of crimes committed Anakin wins without questions, so – why?

👀👀 what's ur beef w/ ragnarok?
SO MUCH lmao
Okay, but seriously, the answer is long and complicated, so strap in for this salty ride.
My #1 issue with Ragnarok isn't that it's a horrible movie, but rather that it's a horrible movie within the framework of the MCU. There are many casual Marvel viewers who don't care about the continuity or tone of the larger series, and that's perfectly okay! Ragnarok is probably a very entertaining film for many of those folks.
However, I am not one of those people. I do care (or, rather I did lol) about the hot mess that is the MCU. And Ragnarok just fucked all the characters from the Thor series sideways, along with Bruce. Nobody seemed to notice because it was flashy and fun and lighthearted! The perfect cure to the first two Thor movies, which were dull as dirt except for Loki, if we're gonna be totally honest.
Taika Waititi has been extremely open about the fact that he did not give a flying fuck about the existing canon and that he hates Loki. He was there to make his movie with no regard to the fact that it's within a goddamn series, and it has to make sense beyond its own 2 hours. He's also ableist and sexist af, arguably anti-Black wrt Tessa Thompson, violates his actors' boundaries on set, and generally has an ego the size of Jupiter. But nobody wants to talk about that :))))
Ragnarok is a tonal mess. Serious moments are given no room to breathe, and the humor kneecaps itself because it's overdone. I mean, when Asgard is destroyed--we're talking about the total annihilation of Thor's home planet--we get about 5 seconds to absorb that before somebody cracks a joke. I felt more about the destruction of Asgard while watching Loki learn of it (in the Loki show) from reading a file than I did while watching it actually happen on screen in Ragnarok.
Love and Thunder is currently getting panned for overused humor that undercuts the stakes of the movie, a predictable but poorly executed plot, empty character arcs, and failure to deliver the significant queer rep we were promised. Which totals up to a completely skippable chapter of the MCU.
All of that applies to my feelings about Ragnarok! So, that's my beef a;sdkfjiertj;aslkdfj

I saw Thor: Love and Thunder and I have so many things to say, so my thoughts (SPOILERS UNDER THE CUT)
#Please keep Taika Waititi away from the Thor world
PROS:
I love the “Jane Foster has Cancer” storyline they used from the comics. It was emotional, made me cry, and really gave Jane such amazing character development with Thor.
I loved everything with Jane and Thor and Valkryie.
The screaming goats are my spirit animal, especially towards this movie
The main villains motivation made sense and was actually kinda cool...
Jane meeting Heimdall in Valhalla
CONS:
Taika Waititi, the same person, in my opinion, who gave us the shit show that turned out to be Thor: Ragnarok is back at it again, making me wonder what the fuck I just watched and why I did after telling myself I wouldn’t, but I decided to give it a chance and....well, here we are...
Despite the fact I love that they followed the “Jane Foster has Cancer” storyline from the comics, they *sighs and facepalms* BUTCHERED IT in the fact of saying that the hammer is killing her and then killed her off anyway, when in fact in the comics, it was the ONLY thing keeping her alive. Kay....cool.
I just still hate the New Asgard storyline from Thor: Ragnarok. And it gets worse since this time they turned it into a fucking TOURIST ATTRACTION OF A JOKE.
IF I hear that Guns N’ Roses song ONE MORE TIME....
How Lady Sif was treated in the movie. LIKE SERIOUSLY!? They haven’t seen each other in how LONG, and everyone thought she was dead, and they pull this? She’s a legacy character from the 1st film. Instead, they give us a Quick cameo. You lost an arm and almost died, but not a warrior’s death that would get you into Valhalla, so say fuck that and be stuck to train little kids. Kay...The Warriors Three must be rolling in their graves.
WHEN THE FUCK DID HEIMDALL HAVE A KID?! No, sorry, no. I’m not buying it. I just see a convenient writing plot point, nothing more.
I honestly hated the Thor Play in Ragnarok and I hate it even more here....it at least made more sense happening in Thor: Ragnarok because of Loki putting on a dramatic play about the his life. In Love and Thunder it just feels like a joke at this point.
JANE FOSTER DESERVED BETTER! SO. MUCH. BETTER!
Why the fuck did Zeus not die with having a damn lightning bolt be shot right through him, but every other God dies easily, including Asgardians? And no, you can’t tell me that it’s because he’s a god that he lived. AGAIN, ASGARDIANS!
And what the fuck was that ending? So it was all about Thor and the main villains daughter all along? Oh dear sweets gods *facepalms*

so, Chris Hemsworth and Taika Waititi are seemingly going out of their way to ignore Loki’s huge presence in Thor’s life--like, they were completely dismissive when asked in an interview what it was like to do a Thor movie without Loki, and they just did a new spot summarizing Thor’s MCU arc in 30 seconds and apparently (I say because I haven’t tried that hard to find it and watch it myself, mostly because I’m pretty sure it’ll just irritate me more) didn’t mention Loki once, which is...really challenging the whole benefit of the doubt I was trying to have about both of them in response to some over-the-top hate here, in terms of them not actually being assholes about Loki’s character and about Tom as a person. because, you know, it kind of seems like Hemsworth in particular is getting absolutely everything he ever wanted where Thor is concerned, and he’s...I dunno, still jealous that Loki and Tom also have fans, or something?
my fondest wish is that every single review says something, even in passing, about missing Tom’s presence. it would make me feel better, and also it would serve them both right for being...ungenerous. sadly I realize that’s pretty unlikely.
anyway, embarrassing as it is to admit, I’m kind of tempted to write a straight-up character-bashing fic where Thor is every bit as awful as some people in the Loki fandom have been saying he and Hemsworth are, because it might be sort of satisfying, but I’m almost certainly not going to do that because a) I don’t like character-bashing fics, b) I actually did mostly like Ragnarok, and c) that would be a lot of effort that would not actually make me feel better, because it would just be a lot of time spent dwelling on the negative when I could be doing literally anything else, like focusing on Loki + portrayals of Thor I do like

I'm bored. Time to do my extremely Marvel fatigued takes on every MCU... Thing.
-Iron Man: Holy shit it's a movie! It's actually a movie!
-Captain America: The First Avenger: ROCK SOLID. Shoutout to Agent Carter for being cool enough for her own spinoff series
-Thor: there is nothing remotely Norse looking about any of this
-Iron Man 2: -10 points for Elon Musk, whole thing is freakishly libertarian, but I like Justin Hammer as a villain
-The Avengers: Look, you can hate on Joss Whedon all you like and probably be correct, but this was the gold standard of superhero movies for a good while and with good reason.
-Iron Man 3: Character development??? In MY bloated superhero movie franchise????
Captain America: The Winter Soldier: trying to be deeper than it is when really it's just Steve fighting hydra again
Thor: The Dark World: well, that sure was a movie.
Guardians of the Galaxy: James Gunn's skill with the needle drop rivals Quentin Tarantino. Not just in this film but in all of his actually
Avengers: Age of Ultron: oh god why is the ROBOT quipping please make the robot stop quipping. Oh look Quicksilver's dead.
Ant-Man: this would be really good if it was directed by a director instead of two million overworked VFX artists
Captain America: Civil War: Hey, y'know that actually fairly interesting character conflict we brought up about government regulation of superheroes? What if we pretended it never happened by act 3 and then completely ignored it for the rest of forever?
Was there another movie here or did I make that up?
Doctor Strange: I love it when rich assholes meet poetic justice and the costume design on this film was unmatched. Although I still think it should have been directed by Lana Wachowski with Michelle Yeoh playing the ancient one but that's just me
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2: teaching your dipshit male protagonist that toxic masculinity isn't something to strive for and showing him how to be better? FUCK YEAH. Also found family in a shitty spaceship my beloved 💖
Spider-Man: Homecoming: this is the closest the MCU has come to an accurate portrayal of Peter Parker, it's only downhill from here. Wait, why is Ganke here?
Thor Ragnarok: It's all the humour of a Taika Waititi movie with none of the compassion. Man's gone on record to say he only makes Thor movies for the money so if this is the price we pay for Jojo Rabbit, Reservation Dogs, and Our Flag Means Death, I'm okay with that.
Black Panther: hey maybe having your villain and only your villain saying racism is bad isn't such a good idea
Avengers: Infinity War: HE CAST TOO BIG FOR HE GOTDAMN MOVIE. Time to strip all these characters down to their barest bones because we don't have the time to do anything more nuanced!
Ant-Man and the Wasp: My Favorite versions of these characters will always be from the 2010 animated series and these ones just don't compare
Captain Marvel: we made a feminist girl power movie! What's particularly feminist about it? Carol gets catcalled exactly once and that's about it!
Avengers Endgame: is it over? No? Oh no.
Spider-Man: Far From Home: Peter Parker is not the "next" Iron Man, he's Spider-Man. Just let him be Spider-Man. Also seriously this is the wrong spidered man for Ganke why is he here
WandaVision: I am completely ambivalent about WandaVision
FATWS: are we supposed to believe that Sam and Bucky are friends? Also didn't fans give Wyatt Russell the 'non white male actor in a star wars movie' treatment for some reason?
Black Widow: 😐
Loki: Started strong and wandered off into the wild blue yonder of selfcest
What if: HEY WHAT IF...? YOU PAID FOR SOME DECENT ANIMATORS INSTEAD OF WHATEVER NERDS WITH BLENDER YOU CAN UNDERPAY AND WORK TO DEATH YOU MULTIBILLION DOLLAR CHEAPSKATES
Shang-Chi And The Legend of the Ten Rings: A post-endgame Marvel Movie that ISN'T hot garbage!
Eternals: couldn't be arsed
Hawkeye: Just different enough from My Life As A Weapon to avoid giving credit to Matt Fraction and David Aja
Spider-Man: No Way Home: Lots of things have been adapted into movies over the years: classic novels, comics, TV shows, plays, even video games! This however, is the first time a comic-con panel has been adapted into a movie. Also, no Spider-Man anywhere ever would EVER say "I just want to kill you myself" get a grip. I think I've now made my point about stealing Miles' best friend and giving him to Peter
Moon Knight: that's not an exciting Easter egg, that's an essential part of the character that you completely cut out and grafted on to the end
Multiverse of Madness: Nothing nowhere all at once. Themes? Character development??? PLOT??? Are you INSANE???? A good movie is one that's nothing but cameos and references to OTHER, BETTER MOVIES!
Ms. Marvel: Y'know, Kamala being a shape-shifter was kind of important because, comedic irony, top text learns she doesn't need to change for others, bottom text is a shape-shifter, you know how it is
Thor: Love and Thunder: haven't seen it, don't really want to
She-Hulk: Attorney at law: please just... Stop.
Comics are very good though! Read some comics!

I love how everyone seems so surprised that “Thor: Love and Thunder” sucks so much ass.  Like man, I told everyone years ago, when “Ragnarok” came out, that the movie was horrible, and if Taika Waititi was allowed to keep directing the Thor films, they were only going to get even worse, they were only going to be drowned and destroyed by this fools particular brand of infantile humor.  But everyone kept going on and on about how great “Ragnarok” was.  “Oh, it made Thor cool!  It was so funny”, blah, blah, blah.  Since when is Thor supposed to be funny?  He’s a Norse God, for crying out loud.  He’s not supposed to act like some fucking clown.  He’s supposed to be noble and powerful and wise.  You can have humor, but it should be done with some amount of subtlety and nuance, not what they did here, and yes, what they did in “Ragnarok”, which was to undercut every moment of drama with idiotic jokes and have every character act like a brain dead asshole.   Taika Waititi is an asshole, so he makes movies about assholes, even when it means taking a well-established character or characters and making them completely unrecognizable, because he’s also a narcissist who needs to make everything about him.  Every character needs to be him.  I just... swear.  I hate this mofo.  He really ruined such a great character and franchise.  If only Marvel wasn’t the cesspit of mediocrity that it’s become, maybe they could have convinced Kenneth Branagh to come back.  Well, that ship’s sailed long ago.  The writing was on the wall with “Ragnarok”.  It’s only going to get worse from here.  The second season of “Loki” is going to be even more epic trash than the first, I bet.  Blah.

i just feel have not seen a single post/tweet/etc about taika waititi or love and thunder that has felt normal or like a reasonable/proportional response to the film. (this post got way too long and i feel embarrassed and cringe about it so its going under a cut)
i see a tweet criticizing him for poking fun at the cgi in a clip used as promo, and like, okay the phrasing of the tweet kind of exaggerates how cruel he is being (about a character that he literally plays), but the points being made about how vfx artists are overworked and underpaid is absolutely true. but the tweet is made by a zack snyder stan account positioning taika waititi himself as the poster boy of the MCU and the symbol of the companies treatment of vfx artists as a whole. which is weird. i think.
i see a post on here about the same clip, half the notes are diehard loki stans who already view taika as the devil incarnate because he “disrespected” their baby boy in ragnarok talking about how hes an asshole and they hate him because he has a huge ego etc etc. and more posts using these moments as the core basis to talk about the MCU and why its bad as a whole and i just. since when was he the face of the MCU?? i know he made the movie that most recently came out but i am just.
we KNOW that the directors barely play a role in these films we all reblogged that article about how half the movie is made - not just written, but literally the scenes have been created digitally etc - before the director even signs on and we KNOW ragnarok is an outlier (and from what i hear this film is more standard MCU fare, though i also hear it reads like a kind of parody of that, which i could absolutely believe, but i need to see it for myself ofc). but suddenly when its a guy we’ve decided needs to get taken down a peg its ONLY his fault?
like obviously i like taika waititi a lot i have Feelings for him and also i like his work!!!! but the point of this post isnt to be like omg defending taika online isnt enough i need a sword im just like. why do i need to defend him?? what did he do??? he clearly doesnt give a shit about marvel like i think thats what it comes down to at the end of the day. marvel movies will never be truly good no matter who makes them so he made a(n apparently) bad movie and got his paycheck. obviously i don’t actually know him or his motivations etc etc and im not going to die on the hill of defending a fucking marvel director or whatever but the intensity of the backlash just feels. genuinely weird to me.

Just watched Thor: Love and Thunder.
I'm in awe of all the symbolism. The goats, the formation of Yggdrasil in the kids when they get their weapons and temporary powers granted by Thor, the love Jane has for Thor, literally fucking killing her by accelerating her stage fucking 4 cancer.
I'd also like to talk about Gorr, the God Butcher and the parallels between him and Jane. Gorr loves his daughter, more than life itself. His entire planet was gone. He and his daughter were the sole survivors and he prayed for rain, for food. But his god was arrogant.
If I were in Gorrs shoes, I would've done the same shit. His hate and anger was justified. I can't imagine the pain of losing a child, due to negligence of a person who promised protection, food, water, shelter. And having it be a joke to them. A farce. Gorr was justified. He could've wished to end all Gods. But he didn't, after seeing Jane's love for Thor.
Jane was a woman of science. She was always solving and finding answers. She followed her logic, something indisputable. But when her cancer wasn't getting better, when she wasn't getting better, she started seeking out alternatives. Mjølnir. It offered health, power, a promise and a hope.
When Gorr got the Necrosword, it offered him power, justice, a promise and a hope. It gave him opportunities to kill those who've wronged their peoples. Who neglected them and left them to suffer. He truly saw this as ending their pain and misery. He was doing them a kindness in his eyes. He was helping them. He was offering them alternatives.
Jane kept giving and giving, until she had nothing left to give. Until she needed to take a break. Was forced to take a break. Her cancer was killing her. But she wanted to fulfill one final mission. Save those children. So she did. She did what was right, even at the expense of herself.
Gorr kept having things taken from him. Until there was nothing left to take. Except the grief of his daughter and being a hull of himself. When he was interacting with the children he stole, he was trying to be a dad. Trying to remember. How his voice pitched up, giving a diminutive to a poor creature, "Octy." He was trying to relate to the kids, but couldn't due to the corruption of the Necrosword. His mind was far too warped. He scared the children.
Jane made a promise to Gorr, in Eternity. That his daughter, Love, would be protected by Thor. So as the two lay dying, in the arms of those who loved them most, they were surrounded by love.
Personally, I love how Taika Waititi showed this idea of "Love conquers all." It's a choice every person has to make. It's not a magic spell. It's not some mystifying power. It's people. It's family, friends, partners. It's all of us.
With the temporary power granted to the kids, in the shape of Yggdrasil, it's an acknowledgement that children are the future. They're always going to be learning, discovering, knowing, playing. They continue to learn even when adults refuse to. It's such an amazing moment in the film and definitely my favorite.
I'm glad Thor finally has someone, he's able to reforge a family, after having lost his. If Loki were still alive, they'd be teaching Love all of the magic. All of it. Sharing embarrassing stories with Love about them and Thor. Dressing up as a bride to stabbing Thor disguised as a snake. On several occasions.
TL;DR, I loved this movie. It's great. I'd recommend it.

So, there’s that whole thing going on about quips in movies and how they’re all bad now, and for the most part, that’s correct! But it’s not universally correct. Because it’s easy to do it, I will use the MCU as reference for this post.
So, I don’t know what’s going on with Joss Whedon and him suddenly being hated so much, and honestly I don’t care too much. He’s just a great example here. When he made Avengers, the entire movie landscape got shifted in a major way. Suddenly, every single movie wanted to be the Avengers movie. The MCU had every character making quips at every turn as well. But, no movie actually managed this properly, except Thor: Ragnarok. Thor also had characters all making quips all the time, but Taika Waititi got right what Joss Whedon got right (Is there also issues with Taika, or did people just REALLY not like the new Thor?)
So, what did these movies get right that every other movie isn’t getting right?
Character. In Avengers, every character makes different types of jokes. Tony Stark has a quick and snappy humor, Steve Rogers is confused, Bruce Banner doesn’t want to be there, Nick Fury is sarcastic, etc. In Thor: Ragnarok, Thor is awkward, Hulk is a child, Loki is frantically trying to get the upper hand, etc. These movies have so many different styles of jokes that the jokes don’t get too stale.
In all other MCU movies, EVERY character gives the same quips. They all take after Tony Stark, and they give the same style of quick, smart jokes that are designed to make a quick laugh. There is no style put into the jokes, it’s all the same. By the end of the FIRST act, the jokes are stale, and you can start guessing what the next joke will be. The ONLY thing that can carry the jokes at that point are the actors, and it’s not often that the actors can manage it. RDJ can do it, but Jeremy Renner can’t, for example. That’s why Iron Man was so much more popular than Hawkeye. Jeremy Renner played the part better as the straight man, who DIDN’T always have a smart comment to say.
THAT’S the problem with quips. And, there’s a way you can get this back! Give actors more control back to their parts! The movies that all did the best in the MCU, and oftentimes cinema in general, are the movies where the actors are given liberty to improv some lines. The actors will know their characters better than the director, so let the actors dictate their small actions. THAT’S where you get the best reactions. THAT’S where you get Tony Stark eating berries while being too casual about a serious conversation. That’s NOT where you get Steve Rogers taking a serious situation lightly enough to make a stupid joke while fighting himself.
Sorry for all the MCU references, they’re just an easy punching bag due to the sheer amount of quality differences between all the movies.

I was wondering what you think of loki and Sylvie's relationship? personally I love them together but the hate they get is worse than any other ship I've ever seen
Ok, I haven't really said anything about the show here since it ended but, trust me, i have a lot to say. So, before I write an essay below, let me start off by saying that this is nothing but MY opinion. Because I have heard RUMORS about Tom and the other actors getting a lot of hate on social media which is not cool at all or even fair because they're just doing what they were told.
So, here we go...
I don't like Sylvie at all. I think she's a very bland character. And the acting wasn't very good to me. I don't know the actress and this is just an opinion (again) but i just don't connect with her acting.
But the whole series is a complete mess.
Listen,
I finished film school a longgg time ago, nonny. So it is impossible for me not to analyze a movie or series when I am watching it, and it's impossible for me not to detect directing or writing mistakes.
I did not like the Loki series at all. I find it very inconsistent, very underwhelming, and like it wasn't even about Loki but Sylvie instead. I know I sound like a broken record (Because I actually have talked about this before in here) but here it goes again, if you re-watch Thor 1 & 2 and Avengers, you will realize that Loki was an actual villain and much darker. Then Ragnarok came along, and, as much as i love Taika Waititi, he + the writers in charge, turned Loki into a clown. And I can prove it to you if you re-watch Infinity War. The writers of Thor the Dark World (Which had the best version of Loki in my opinion) returned and were in charge of the character again and you can see the darkness and depth he had before Ragnarok once more.
I was hoping, because of the moment in time Loki escapes and the show begins, that the writers of the series would pay attention and keep that version of Loki of when he was actually a villain. But no. They went for the Ragnarok version and it just... sucked.
Now, there's a HUGE difference between a character's arc... and writing inconsistencies.
There were so many writing and directing mistakes throughout the 6 episodes that by the time the loki/sylvie kiss happened, it was just the last predictable mistake they would make. OF COURSE. The cherry on top.
There's no chemistry between them. This is not a romantic show. There's little action in the show, and to make things worse, the last episode consisted of "he who remains" talking for over 10 minutes while Loki and Sylvie just sat there listening with their swords in hand.
How many times did we see Loki using his full power? (Classic Loki proved what younger Loki could be capable of IF THEY FOCUSED ON HIM)
How many times did we see Loki in his frost giant form?
I mean... you really don't have to be a space engineer to detect this type of mediocre content in a Marvel show that's supposed to be filled with action and show us WHAT THE MAIN CHARACTER CAN ACTUALLY DO.
Another huge mistake... SYLVIE. To this day, we're still not 100% sure if she's a Loki variant or not. Because the actress said she is, and the show seems to confirm it but then the director said she's not. At this point, i don't give a fuck anymore. This show is a series of missed opportunities. They should've given us the actual Lady Loki (*COUGH COUGH* EVA GREEN *COUGH COUGH*) they should've given us at least a glimpse into a same-sex affair Loki had in the past, they should've given us more president Loki or just Loki's actual story throughout the years... not this boring bland pseudo-disney princess Sylvie crap.
This show is not about romance. I don't ship Loki and Sylvie in the same way i don't ship Loki and Mobius (Which at this point would've been a 1000 times better) because i am tired of writers forcing romantic relationships into every film or series.
Have they not seen The Queen's Gambit???
They should. And try to learn from it.
People have every right to be angry. Because they're paying a subscription to watch good quality content. Add to that the hundreds of dollars they have spent on merch, movie theater tickets, dvds, etc. But in any case, they should go to the writers' social media and politely complain (lol)/Demand quality content. Not hate on the actors who are literally just reading a crappy script they were given out loud.
I know Disney might be to blame too... but it's not like they can't make a good villain, i mean:
Tumblr media
For God's sake.
Need more proof on just how utterly inconsistent it is?
Loki killed his own father (Evil or not. He K I L L E D his own father)
Almost killed his adoptive one
Indirectly killed his adoptive mother
Has tried to kill his adoptive brother Endless times
Has betrayed everyone a bunch of times
killed 80 people on earth in 2 days
For the majority of the episodes, Loki, literally just stood there or walked next to Sylvie doing NOTHING.
I am sorry but... i loved Loki the way he was before Ragnarok and there's just NO NEED to turn him into a hero.
There are people out there who love heroes.
And there are others who love villains.
We wanted this one show about a villain we love and we got... nothing.
~A.Wölf.

Thor trailer- Ephiny’s thoughts
OOC: Just watched it (Thank you @worthystill for posting it). And... Okay. I couldn’t listen to it (at work), so I could only watch the visuals. But it looks great. It really does.
Can we talk about how Valkyrie slays that outfit???
I’m not going to post any spoilers about it, I’m not.
Or, well, okay, I’m not going to mention anything else specifically that is in the trailer.
So, I am excited for this movie. MCU Jane is not my favorite character in the movies, so originally I was going to only see it so I can watch it with my bestie who is my IRL Loki and because Jamie Alexander is supposed to be back as Sif in this movie. But this trailer looks great. It really does, and I’m looking forward to it, but...
I’m also scared.
Tumblr media
I am scared and nervous. Sif is one of my favorite Marvel characters, and she is my favorite in the Thor franchise. Hearing she was coming back is originally the second-to-main/only reason I was going to see this movie in theaters.
And I’m really afraid of them either killing Sif a la the Warriors Three in Ragnarok or pulling a Dark World to only use her as angst over a possible rekindling of a romance between Thor and Jane. My girl does not deserve either of those options. And the closer it gets to the premiere, the more nervous I get. Because I’ve seen stills and such of the other characters, but I haven’t seen boo with Sif, and while I love Taika Waititi and his style, I was very disappointed how he handled the Warriors Three. Which, again, makes me more nervous about Sif.
I’m pretty sure I’ll get some messages from Thor/Jane fans who hate Sif, or Thor fans who’ll tell me that she’s not a major character so I shouldn’t hang everything on a movie about how they’re going to handle a “minor character”, but...she’s my favorite. I don’t care if she’s a main character or not, she’s MY favorite, and given the MCU’s track record with Sif, I’m worried about what will happen to her in this new movie.
I’m still going to go see it. I’m just...probably going to scream in the theater again like I did during my first screening of Infinity War.

i’ve been thinking about the future of the mcu and realized there’s a LOT that i didn’t know/didn’t remember in terms of where things are going so i figured i’d sum it up incase anyone else was in the same boat!!
quick recap of (unresolved) mid-credit scenes:
doctor strange: mordo (a sorcerer that is one of strange’s mentors, who by the end of the movie becomes disillusioned with magic/the ancient one and quits) confronts pangborn (the paraplegic who healed himself with the mystic arts, who tells strange about mystic arts in the first place) and steals his magic because according to mordo, there are “too many sorcerers." of note, this guy is typically a villain in the comics but hasn’t been thus far...
gotg2: ayesha (leader of the sovereign, a golden skinned alien race obsessed with genetic purity), after spending most of the movie chasing the guardians for stealing some stuff, is revealed to have created an artificial being named “adam” which is presumably, adam warlock. (other stuff that is less relevant: kraglin appears to take up yondu’s mantle; the ravagers regroup and several old and obscure comic book characters are introduced [charlie-27, aleta, martinex, mainframe]; the watchers are watching things.)
far from home: j jonah jameson basically tells the whole world spider-man’s secret identity, and frames him for what happened with mysterio....making him public enemy #1. ALSO, turns out nick fury and maria hill in the movie were ACTUALLY the two skrulls from captain marvel (talos and soren) attempting to do their job, while the real fury (and presumably hill) is ... up in space on some spaceship!!!
wandavision: monica (who we can assume is photon) is called by “an old friend of [her] mother’s,” up in space, which presumably means fury, talos, or carol. ALSO, wanda sits in the middle of nowhere reading the darkhold and hears the voices of her children who.. by all accounts, should not exist.
aaaaand what we know about future movies (i’m not even going into the tv series.....):
black widow:
takes place after civil war
nat confronts a “dangerous conspiracy with ties to her past,” likely has to do with taskmaster who has apparently taken over the red room where nat was trained as an assassin
prominent new characters: yelena belova, who will take over the mantle of black widow after this; alexei shostakov aka red guardian, an ollllld marvel hero analogous to captain america except for the soviet union.
tony stark will make an appearance... SOBS
shang-chi and the legend of the ten rings:
shang-chi has never been seen in the mcu before, but he is, essentially, a superhero that is a master martial artist, and in some adaptations can also create duplicate (fake) versions of himself to confuse opponents
main villain will be the the mandarin who we have *sort of* seen before... he is the leader of a terrorist organization called “ten rings” whose main goal is to destroy world peace. brief history -- in iron man 1: one ten rings cell kidnaps tony stark and tries to force him to make weapons (he of course, makes his suit instead). stark and ten rings become enemies and fight a bunch. nat and nick fury fight them too. in iron man 3, the villain aldrich killian hires a dude to pretend to be the mandarin and claim responsibility for a bunch of stuff, but its not the ten rings or the mandarin at all. this makes the mandarin v mad and he has a dude kidnap the faker to punish him. they also briefly show up in ant-man, when a ten rings agent tries to buy the yellowjacket suit that darren cross is selling. BUT IN SHANG-CHI....... looks like we are FINALLY going to see the real mandarin after over a decade!!
the villain razor fist will also show up, he is lesser known... he has no superhuman powers but he has surgically replaced his hands (1 or 2, depending on the version) with a steel blade, and is highly skilled at hand to hand combat.
besides the presence of these characters, the only bit of plot we know is “shang-chi is drawn into the ten rings organization and forced to confront his past.” so... yeah. we don’t know much at all.
eternals:
quick explanation: the eternals are an immortal alien race who have been secretly living on earth for thousands of years. they were created by the celestials, who are most prominently in gotg2.
more entirely new characters!!! their names are: thena, who can form any weapon out of cosmic energy; gilgamesh, who can make a super strong exoskeleton out of cosmic energy; ikaris, who has superhuman strength, flies, and can project cosmic energy out his eyes; kingo, who can shoot cosmic energy projectiles from his hands; makkari, who creates sonic booms, has super speed, and is deaf; phastos, who has enhanced intelligence, and is also gay (and married with a kid!); ajak, who has healing powers; sprite, who can project illusions; sersi, who can manipulate matter; druig, who can mind control; and dane whitman (black knight), a human with a mystical sword.
regarding the plot... it seems the eternals have kind of dispersed, but have to come together again to fight the deviants, who are their “evil counterparts” (also created by the celestials, though i’m unclear on why). thena and gilgamesh have apparently been in exile, unclear why; sersi, who is posing as a museum curator, has apparently been in love with ikaris for centuries and it seems as if their love story may be central to the film; and kingo is a bollywood film star in his spare time. aaaaand that’s pretty much all we know.
directed by chloé zhao of nomadland fame!
spider-man no way home:
based on the post-credits scene in far from home, peter parker will now be known as spider-man to everyone. unclear if he’s going to be seen as a bad guy due to mysterio framing him, but i guess we’ll see!
jamie foxx is electro, and alfred molina is doctor octopus; which is VERY interesting considering they played these roles in other spider-man franchises, once again stirring up excitement for possible multiverse.
there have been *multiple* reports that andrew garfield, kirsten dunst, tobey maguire, and emma stone will be in the movie but tom holland has repeatedly denied this... so... who knows.
there are also rumors that matt murdock / daredevil (from netflix) will be in several scenes! not confirmed though.
MJ is still his girlfriend and i hope it stays that way!!
doctor strange will be featured in the movie, taking on the mentor role now that tony stark is gone :( this will be interesting as i.. haven’t really seen them interact much before. because of this inclusion some people speculate that the film may draw inspo from some comic storylines where peter’s secret identity is restored with magic.
doctor strange in the multiverse of madness:
scarlet witch is essentially co-starring!!! it’s going to be really interesting to see if they bring vision or the twins into this at all, though i’m not counting on it.
seems like mordo will be the main villain -- recall the ds1 post credits scene where he is apparently running around trying to steal people’s magic.
america chavez will make her debut!!!!!! i have no idea how this plays into anything but i am so excited!!
regarding the plot, all we really know is that strange has been researching the time stone, mordo messes with him, and this results in him accidentally unleashing “unspeakable evil.” presumably there will also be heavy involvement of the multiverse, and who knows what kind of craziness that will bring!!
initially was going to be directed by scott derrickson who did ds1; however he stepped down to being just EP due to “creative differences.” i am presuming this is because derrickson really wanted to make this more gothic and horror than disney was comfortable with. i REALLY hope they keep some of those elements though and don’t erase the idea entirely! anyway, it will be directed by sam raimi now (of evil dead and spiderman 2002 fame).
the film also reportedly ties in with the loki series (will loki show up!?) and spiderman 3 (which is obvious enough, given that strange is in that movie and those curious electro and doctor octopus castings...)
thor: love and thunder
directed by taika waititi again, hell yeah!!! and he has stated, the film will be “so over the top now in the very best way" and would make ragnarok look like a "run of the mill, very safe film" .... so.... oh god
so many great returning players!!! including.... valkyrie (now the king of new asgard), jane foster, lady sif, korg, star-lord, mantis, drax, nebula, and kraglin (takes up yondu’s mantle after he dies in gotg2)
in this movie, thor isn’t thor anymore.... it’s JANE!!! she gets cancer :( and is undergoing treatment while simultaneously being thor. i’m a little nervous how this will be handled, but i’m excited. (it’s based off an amazing comic series by jason aaron)
the big bad: gorr the god butcher, played by christian bale! the gist of it is, this dude HATES gods because nobody helped when his family was dying and in need. his weapon is “all-black the necrosword,” forged from the head of a celestial, and allows the user to create wings and fly at extreme speeds. honestly, he sounds cool as fuck.
valkyrie is going to be made canonically bisexual!!!
it will explore more of korg’s backstory, and also include... space sharks!?!?! an alien race from the comics.
taika has called the script “very romantic” so take that as you will
black panther 2
will again be directed by ryan coogler
not much is known at this point, does not have an official name
t’challa will NOT be recast (which i’m happy about) so..... honestly no idea what to expect for this one. i think we can probably expect shuri to have an expanded role. all we know so far is they will be “exploring the world of wakanda.” not clear to me how this is different from the upcoming wakanda D+ series.
tenoch huerta has reportedly been cast as a villain, but no one has any idea who. there’s also rumors that donald glover is in “informal talks” to play a role. note all of this is unconfirmed.
captain marvel 2
will be directed by nia da costa (candyman!) and written by megan mcdonnell, who is one of wandavision’s best writers!
will take place in the present day
will feature kamala khan / ms. marvel, monica rambeau / photon!!! this will be so interesting.... kamala is a huge fan of carol’s in the comics, she is her mentor/idol. the ms. marvel series will also resportedly lead into cm2. and monica, well, monica knew her when she was a little kid. wandavision implies that there’s some bad blood between carol and monica though, not sure why. maybe because carol left and never came back? (until endgame)
post-credits scene of wandavision appears to tie into this, having monica go up into space at the reqeust of her “mom’s old friend.” again, not clear who that is. this could also be a tie in to secret invasion though, so we’ll see. or both.
zawe ashton has been cast as an unknown villain... a lot of people are actually speculating that she may play rogue? which would be fascinating, as there’s a comic arc where rogue steals her powers and memories. BUT there’s still no confirmation that X-men exist in the MCU so for now i remain skeptical.
they are looking to cast a ‘john boyega’ or ‘michael b jordan’ type which makes me wonder if they are going to create a new character, a “younger” war machine to be her love interest? (note: carol and rhodey are a huge thing in comics!) carol obviously does not look her age but her and don cheadle.... that just doesn’t work. which is why i wonder.
ant-man and the wasp: quantumania
in addition to scott and hope, pretty much all the major players are returning including: luis, hank pym, janet van dyne
cassie lang has been recast with an actress 5 years older, which is really making me wonder if they are going to make her stinger in this movie! (aka one of the main young avengers)
the villain: kang the conqueror! this dude time travels. original name nate richards. in the comics, kang travels back in time to rescue his younger self (nate) from an attack that would help shape him towards a life of villainy. kang also gives him some fancy armor. his younger self actually is like, what the fuck dude? and renounces his destiny, becoming a hero. and he makes his armor look like iron man, calling himself iron lad. who is a young avenger. which also makes me wonder about cassie lang.
otherwise not much is known!
guardians of the galaxy vol. 3
james gunn is returning, i’m mixed about this...he really does *get* the guardians though.
based on the gotg2 post credits scene, i think we can assume adam warlock will be a HUGE part of this. there are multiple versions of him, some villainous and some heroic, but no idea how this is gonna turn out.
no word yet on whether thor will be involved, or if those ravagers they introduced will be involved.
fantastic four
will be directed by the spiderman guy, john watts.
otherwise we know literally nothing.
aaaaand that’s the roundup!

Got a question about Taika Waititi. Do you hate him only in TR or do you just generally don't like him? Because, me personally, I do love some of his movies, I think "Jojo Rabbit" was my favourite movie of 2020, but I also hate Ragnarok and can't stand the shit he did and said about Loki. But all in all, as long as he isn't messing with the MCU, I really don't think he's a bad director, I'd say he's pretty high on my list. I think his forte is just a very, veeeery different style and mood than should ever be allowed in MCU, let alone in Thor franchise, who always had a kinda exalted, shakespearian style (which is what made it good, fresh among the modern-day based films of the rest of MCU). Now that I think about it, I'd like to see what someone like eg. Guillermo Del Toro would do with a Thor movie, because, like Waititi, he also has his own, unique style, but it's totally opposite to TW's.
Hate is a strong word. I don’t hate him. I can’t stand him and I dislike his personality. TR is the only movie I’ve seen of him and that made me dissuade from seeing any other of his movies. I’d planned to see “What We Do in the Shadows” and “Hunt for the Wilderpeople” since I’ve heard they are good movies but after TR I have zero motivation and intention to see them. Same for “Jojo Rabbit”. I’ve heard great things about it but the trailer never impressed me. And I can almost always tell from a trailer that I’m going to like a movie or not. Moreover I think I don’t really enjoy his type of humor. I can usually apply the concept of death of the author to the works which I’ve previously enjoyed without knowing anything about their creator. But not when I know about the author and I haven’t seen the work. That way I won’t be able to see the work.
I agree with you so much about Guillermo Del Toro directing a Thor movie. His gothic and unique style, his obsession with monsters, it would make a truly fantastic Thor movie.

Why I Criticize Taika Waititi More Than The Russo Brothers
No, shockingly enough, it's not some grand, racist conspiracy to bring down a director of colour. 🙄 I am more vocal in my criticisms of Taika than of the Russos for two simple reasons:
1. Necessity
It has been my personal experience that most Marvel fans on Tumblr already agree that IW/EG were a goddamn dumpster fire and the Russos Brothers were the flaming garbage inside of it. The same is simply not true of Taika. The Marvel fandom, for reasons that continue to mystify me, still appears to hold an overwhelmingly positive view of him. If I shit all over the Russos, sure, it may feel good... but I'm not telling anyone anything they don't already know. I've never had anyone ask me why people don't like the Russos. By contrast, I am regularly asked—sometimes genuinely, far more often disingenuously—why Loki fans hate Taika Waititi. A question demands an answer. It's simple economics.
2. Impact
Let me preface this by saying that I hate what the Russo Brothers did to Loki. I hate it. Two years past IW and I STILL filter my tags to avoid gifs of That Scene™. I still can't search for images of Loki without knowing I'm inevitably going to run into it and spend the next hour feeling sick to my stomach. Neither them nor Marvel as a company will ever earn my forgiveness for the brutality with which they snuffed out Loki's life or the glee they displayed in knowing how much it upset us. Those sick bastards literally fucking laughed about it and said our tears were "delicious". Nothing about their treatment of Loki or his fans will ever be okay with me. Ever. Ever.
And yet what Taika did is worse, in my view, and here's why: What the Russos did, while disgusting and unforgivable, was over in a matter of minutes. They tossed him aside like refuse, had their shitty villain break the fourth wall to mock us—but then it was over. As indicated previously, nearly every Marvel fan I've ever spoken with agrees that Loki got fucked over by them. That is wildly different from the response to Waititi's hit job on Loki. Taika spent two hours smearing Loki, humiliating him, rewriting his history—and people praise him for it and say he "fixed" Loki. Excuse me while I throw up in my mouth. The effects of Waititi's treatment of Loki are much longer-lasting and farther-reaching than that of the Russos. He somehow managed to mount such an effective propaganda campaign that half this fandom believes Loki to be someone who is unrecognizable to the other half. He obliterated Loki's reputation in the eyes his own fans in a way that I don't believe can ever be repaired. The Russo Brothers didn't convince anyone that Loki is a slutty, day-drinking twink who needs to be tortured by his brother for his own good. To my eternal befuddlement, Taika Waititi did do that. In order to escape most of the damage that the Russo Brothers did to Loki, all I really need to do is avoid re-watching their shitty movies. And there's some catharsis in knowing that most people feel the same way I do. In order to escape what Taika did, on the other hand, I need to avoid half the fandom. That is not practical. That is not possible to do without leaving the fandom altogether—and, while I'm sure some portion of it would not mind seeing me go, that is not going to happen. I love this character. I relate to him; I empathize with him; I feel for him in a way I have never come close to feeling for another fictional character, and maybe even in a way I've never felt for another actual human being. I don't know whether to thank or curse Tom Hiddleston for this fact, but it is what it is.
If someone came along and systematically destroyed the reputation of my real life loved ones in the way that Taika Waititi has done to Loki, I would punch them in their goddamn face without a second's hesitation—and I largely consider myself a pacifist. I can't punch Taika Waititi in the face. So I'll settle for shit-talking him on the Internet until my fingers bleed. Maybe once the rest of the Loki fandom figures out that he didn't "save" or "fix" anything; maybe once the rest of the fandom stops calling Loki a greasy, whiny, stabby little shit who betrays Thor five times before breakfast every morning... maybe then I'll tone it down a little. In fact, I’d be delighted to. Fighting half the fandom for the right to dislike a shitty movie is actually not my idea of an awesome time, believe it or not. Sadly, though, I'm not expecting that to happen anytime soon.
