cute vets, pets, and boys
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pairing: Quackity x reader
Pronouns: Gender neutral
Description: Tiger needs to go to vets. Over there, his owner meets a cute veterinary assistant (yes, I mean you)
Notes: Doctor Anderson is the name of an actual doctor I shadowed I couldn’t think of anything else okay, leave me alone.

His knee bounced up and down impatiently. The place was unusually packed today.
Tiger sat in his basket, loafed and with his eyes closed. Quackity’s heart ached for the small cat, the poor animal had stopped his regular eating habits. When he filled his bowl, it was only half finished, which was abnormal, since Tiger was usually finished within 10 minutes, and then meowed for some more.
He glanced at the clock, sighing after calculating that he had been been waiting for almost a whole hour, until a vaguely familiar man walked into the room with a clipboard. He was a middle aged man, grey hair and and stubble. He wore giant glasses with black frames. It was only when Quackity’s eyes landed on the name tag pinned to the pocket of his white lab coat, did he realise this was their regular vet.
“Alex!” He called out, looking up from his clipboard and locking eyes with him
Tiger hadn’t been to vet in ages, and when he did, it was usually his mom who took him, so to see him so enthusiastic, or even remember his name, startled him quite a bit.
He stood up, clutching the handle of the cat basket and lifting it off the floor.
“Doctor Anderson?” He tried to play it off as if he wasn’t reading his badge to remember his name.
“How have you been?” The doctor asked him.
“I’ve been good, busy, but good,”
“How are you? How is your mom?”
Quackity tried to be polite, answering all the questions he had. But in reality, he didn’t care about catching up with his vet, especially after waiting an hour of waiting just to even be spoken to while his cat sat miserably in his basket. It had entirely ruined his mood. He just wanted to know what was wrong with his cat.
He was relieved when Doctor Anderson finally ushered him into the room.

The doctor walked in with another man, he looked young. This man was going to be the final patient you assist before finally finishing the veterinary experience course. You took a deep breath and approached them both.

The other guy looked you, not in a weird way, but just to curious to who you were. You offered him a kind smile, and when you started to think wasnt going to, he returned it. Doctor Anderson watched the interaction from across the room.
“This is [Y/N],” he introduced, putting a gentle hand behind your back. “They’ve been shadowing me for the last 2 months, today is their final day,”
Quackity nodded, glancing towards you again, but less soft. Your smile dropped. You started to assume he wasn’t in a good mood today, especially since he probably had a sick animal with you. So, you resorted to standing in the corner of the room, just to observe.
“So then, how can I help you?” The doctor asked him
“I don’t know,” You watched him as he distressedly pushed his hair away, alongside fiddling and adjusting his beanie anxiously. “Tiger just hasn’t been eating lately and it’s been worrying me,”
Doctor Anderson opened up the basket and took out a small tabby cat who you now knew was named ‘Tiger’. Your heart awed at the cat, you loved cats. I mean, you loved animals in general, which was the reason you wanted to help them.
You watched as he started to check the cat, feeling his fur and his body for any irregularities. His face was fully focused, eyebrows furrowing. You could tell the owner was nervous since he was rubbing the seam of his shirt aggressively between his finger and thumb.
“Has Tiger ever-“
The door suddenly swung open with a loud creak. All your heads snapped towards the entrance, another doctor stood there, her face a little sweaty and she was huffing, completely out of breath
“Doctor- we need you please, it’s urgent,” She stated.
The doctor looked at you, and then looked at the cat, and then looked back at you. You felt yourself freeze in fear. You knew what he was asking, and you frantically shook your head, pleading with your eyes that he didn’t leave you alone.
“You’ll be fine,” he whispered, before taking off and dashing out the room,‘following the tinder woman. He accidentally slammed the door a little hard that the noise startled Tiger. He let out a small and scared meow.
You pursed your lips, looking down sympathetically at the cat. You then looked at his owner, he was giving you a blank, expressionless stare, his brown eyes told you he was a mixture of tired, irritated but concerned. You wondered how long he’d been waiting.
Tumblr media
Quackity was nervous around pretty people, he was far from confident. After the way you smiled at him, he felt himself heat up. He’d be lying he if he said he didn’t find you cute.
If you weren’t in such a formal environment, he’d be initiating some sort of casual conversation with you to start things going, if he even knew how to. But now, especially since he had a sick cat with him, wasn’t the ideal situation. Your voice interrupted his train of thoughts.
“So,” you gnawed at your lip nervously. “He’s lost his appetite?
Quackity nodded slowly.
You hummed, observing her on the table. He was a cute little cat, his eyes were glossy and wide. You felt a pain in your chest at the poor thing. You had never been left alone with a patient before, so you were anxious to say the least.
“Has this ever happened before?” You asked
He shook his head. “Uh- no. No it hasn’t.”
You stroked her, he immediately nuzzled into your palm. You and him both locked eyes at the adorable moment.
“He’s cute,” You stated.
“Yeah,” he chuckled. “He is.”
He picked up a mental note of your interaction with him. It was uncommon that Tiger relaxed at someone’s touch so easily, usually he would do that at-least within a week of knowing or playing with them. He was also quite aggressive, living up to his name.
“You don’t need to worry, you know, I’m sure he’s fine, the worst it could be is like- kidney disease or something,”
His eyes widened
“Not that it is!” You took back, wishing you could swallow your words back up again. “I didn’t mean it like that, I was just saying that he could-“
He raised an eyebrow at you, this time out of confusion of your rambling.
“I’ll stop talking now.” You muttered to yourself
You felt ridiculous, being so nervous. You couldn’t tell if it was from the pressure, or the fact he had a strong gaze on you.
“I’m going to check his teeth, if that’s okay?” You asked
Quackity stepped back abit from the table. “Yeah, yeah, of course, do whatever you need,”
You patted her head before positioning her so you could look at her mouth. You gently held her head and used your fingers carefully to pull her jaw open. It all looked pretty normal, until your eye fixated on one of her canines that were looking black at the root.
You sighed, observing it a little longer. You smiled, thankful that you found the problem. It was funny to you how this guy hadn’t even thought to check her mouth before-hand.
“Well, we’ve found the problem,” you said. Quackity stepped closer and watched to where you finger was pointing. “Just a bad tooth, it most likely hurts when he eats,”
You smiled at him reassuringly and he relaxed. His Tiger was going to be just fine
“So now what?” Quackity asked you, petting Tiger. He quietly purred
You ran your tongue at the seam of your lips. “I don’t know, I guess. I don’t think if it’s legally permissible for me to diagnose anything or 8 anything- I think,” you spoke awkwardly. “It’s better to just wait for the doctor to come back,”
He nodded again. The silence in the room was making it a little uncomfortable for the both of you, the only thing making it less... weird, was the cute little cat laying on the table.
“So, how long have you been shadowing him again?”
You bit the inside of your cheek, he was clearly just trying to make conversation with you to diffuse the awkwardness.
“For two months,” you answered. “Today is actually my last day.”
“Seriously?”
“Yeah, kind of disappointed actually, this experience has been quite nice. Now it’s back to textbooks and PowerPoint presentations, it’s like being stuck back in high school”
“I get that. Law school is just case after case and it can get boring sometimes,”
“Law school? Holy crap,” you said, before throwing a hand over your mouth, remembering he was still just a patient. “Sorry, excuse the language,”
He giggled nervously. “Don’t worry about about it,”
Conversation with him from then on was easy. It flowed quite smoothly, from talking about about school to other general things.
He liked the way you listened, Quackity knew that he waffled on about certain subjects a whole lot. But you seemed to actually be interested, your face lighting up every time. You found it sweet the way he talked so passionately about things, for a stranger, you were pretty intrigued.
You enjoyed his company for the next 30 minutes, still waiting for Doctor Anderson to come back after rushing out of the door. To be fair, It was nice to have conversation during the day that wasn’t with a fifty five year old man for once.
Tumblr media
“But we have restaurants here like Chipotle, or Taco bell!” You exclaimed, now sitting beside him on one of the blue chairs.
“They’ve never been as good as the ones I’ve had in Mexico,” he told you.
“Well then I guess-“
Again. The noisy door swung open. Both your heads simultaneously turning towards it. The doctor walked back into the room, his hair was a little ruffled and messy. He came in as if he was looking for a certain something, and then his eyes landed on you.
“[Y/N]? What are you still doing here?” He questioned, looking at his watch. “It’s past four o’clock,”
You took out your phone from your back pocket. Damn, time really flew by and you didn’t even realise.
“We were just talking about Tiger, he’s got a bad tooth,” you said
The doctor smiled at you. “Good work, [Y/N]!” He said, pride overtaking his voice. “But it’s really time for you to go home. You can pack up your things now and relax! You’re finally finished!”
“Oh-,” you said, feeling the slightest bit disappointed as you looked at Quackity. “Thank you,”
You stood up and hesitantly slipped off the spare white lab coat, folding it up and placing it in on a nearby counter.
You looked at Quackity again, his eyes were almost saying ‘sorry’ for you having to leave.
Quackity watched you leave the room. His mood dropping straight away. He knew he wasn’t going to speak to you again after this.
The doctor started talking to him again, giving him advice for Tiger and how they would deal with the problem. However, the unfortunate problem was, his attention was focused on you. You know sometimes you talk to someone once and then for the rest of the year you constantly think about that interaction? Yeah, that’s how he was feeling. He had no idea why you had suddenly invaded all his thoughts.
Too bad you’d left without so much of a goodbye.
If only he built up the courage and asked for your number.

Word count: 2,209
A/N: You’re gonna hate my ass because I have zero intention to finish the smut on this one shdhd. Maybe when I’m less busy I’ll come back and update it (although not atm). There are typos galore too so I’m sorry in advance!

The infamous Bubblegum Bomb Incident of 1972. Casualties: one.
During Year Two, Sirius had resolved to get revenge on Cissy’s insufferable boyfriend ever since he tripped him in the halls to get a laugh out of his Slytherin lackeys; and what better way to do that than ruining his precious platinum locks.
It was suppose to be a quick and untraceable procedure. He’d get to personally serve Lucius his own brand of justice and the job would be completed without having to suffer detention.
If only you hadn’t been rushing through the halls that day.
Lunch had just ended, and you were haphazardly ducking and dodging through the wave of students, on your way to visit Remus. He’d been sentenced to a strict, three day period of consistent bed-rest in the infirmary after a particularly bad transformation.
You’d just wanted to bring him a slice of his favorite Hogwarts style coconut cream pie, but one wrong turn and you were suddenly bombarded with three quick pelts of homemade exploding bubblegum bullets.
Sirius had designed them to be quick and lethal with their distribution of rubbery goo so that the target's hair was sure to be ruined.
The first shot sent the small plate in your hands completely airborne. The next two hit you square in the chest, knocking you fully onto your back.
The aftermath was so extreme that it took the combined effort of Professor McGonagall, Professor Flitwick, and eventually, the guiding hand of Madam Pomfrey to free you from the sticky sludge and off of the stone pavement.
By the time they’d got to the infirmary, your entire head of hair had been deemed unsalvageable by sweet Poppy, and the only thing she could figure to do was shave it clean off by hand.
You’d spent the next two days unexpectedly alongside a tired Remus, confined in the sick bay, crying your eyes out hysterically. You’d had no idea who had done this to you or why.
That was until the third day, when Poppy finally allowed visitors in, in hopes of lifting your spirits.
Your guests included:
An empathetic Lily and Mary, both girls bringing you and Remus an abundance of flowers from the greenhouses, with explicit approval from Professor Sprout; alongside the homework you’d missed and plenty of junk foods.
An overzealous Marlene who’d spent the entirety of the three days drafting up and collecting signatures for a petition to permanently ban disruptive joke shop type inventions.
And lastly, an uncharacteristically stonefaced James and solemn Sirius who both quietly observed the crucially placed scarf on your head meant to distract from your current state of baldness.
“Go on then. Tell her, man. It’s only proper.” James said abruptly with folded arms, for the first time ever foregoing his usual impeccable home-taught manners and any form of courteous greetings altogether.
You watched confused as Sirius stood some several feet away, staring directly down at his shoes. After another coarse verbal prod from James, he stepped forward, eyes wide and brows furrowed.
“I- You have to understand, I couldn’t have known, Y/N! It happened so suddenly and before I knew it, it was too late!” He pleaded desperately and you weren’t quite understanding what he meant.
“I don’t follow, Sirius. What are you on about?” You asked, watching as he began wringing his hands.
He looked over to James again, seemingly pleading for aid that wouldn’t come. James looked positively severe, intent on standing by his decision to have the boy do this by himself.
“I- I was the one who blew the gum bullets.” Sirius finally whispered, looking positively terrified of your reaction. “But I didn’t intend on hitting you, I promise! It was for that git Malfoy! Remember when he tripped me in front of all of those sixth years last month? I’d been working on a way to get him back ever since! You’ve got to believe me, Y/N!”
But you’d stopped listening after the initial reveal. Your blood ran cold and it was hard to focus on anything in particular before suddenly all of your senses came rushing back in, and you were furious.
And even though James and Remus had been gauging your response, neither could have been quick enough to match the speed at which you pulled off both of your slippers and hurled them at the older boy’s face.
Successfully managing to clock him so hard, he reflexively reached up to clutch his sore, but still intact nose.
After that day, you had deemed Sirius public enemy number one, he managed to outrank even the silver-spoon fed Slytherins and that antagonizing blight, Peeves.
While there were tonics for quickening hair growth, you cursed Sirius Orion Black, every time you had to awkwardly apply a plethora of random oils to your scalp and walk around campus bald for an entire semester.
When he looked your way, you glared back mercilessly. If he dared to even address you, your responses were far from being deemed PG-13.
He’d spent the first six months wearily but consistently trying to apologize, however the damage had already been done, and it’d destroyed any semblance of friendship he’d crafted with you beforehand.
So after a while, he gave up. If you were going to hate him regardless of his actions, he figured he might as well stand up for himself during the bickering matches that transpired whenever the two of you were less than six feet apart.
Over the years, you’d remained bestfriends with Remus and James, though they could never hang out with the both of you at the same time.
For example, if you were eating breakfast with the two boys in The Great Hall and Sirius arrived late after sleeping in, you’d promptly roll your eyes and slide away to talk with Lily.
——
“That most definitely is not healthy, James.” You grimaced, tilting your head back laughing. The book in your lap, long since abandoned from the moment your bestfriends entered the common room.
“Muggle five second rule, Y/N! You were the one who told me about it to begin with!” He grinned from his spot sitting cross-legged on the floor in front of you.
You couldn’t help bursting into a fit of giggles, desperately trying to respond. “Rem- Remus! Please! Inform him that it doesn't apply to dropping a sandwich down an entire flight of stairs!”
“Believe me I tried, but he seemed pretty determined to eat it, hair and all after catching up to it.” Remus replied softly, a fond smile playing on his lips as you began making gagging noises of disgust.
“No! James Fleamont Potter, tell me you didn’t actually eat hair!” You laughed, extending your socked foot to shove him.
“I will suffice by just saying that, there may or may not have been a stray hair or two on it when I picked it up- Oh! Sirius, how was detention?” James trailed off to greet a certain boy and your demeanor immediately soured.
Your textbook on alchemical runes suddenly seemed like the most interesting thing in the world.
“It was worth it. Mcgonagall must be getting tired of me because she had me choose a book and read for three hours. Don’t let me interrupt the fun though. Looks like you’ve finally coaxed the Ice Queen to defrost for a bit. Shame I wasn’t here to see it.” He remarks, and you didn’t need to be looking at him to know he was wearing that infuriating smirk.
“Don’t worry, Black. I’ll never be able to truly relax knowing you’re still out running amuck. Next time you get written up, I’ll be sure to beg Mcgonagall to keep you chained outside with the rest of the wild animals.” An acute look of disgust etches across your face as you close your book, promptly shoving it into your bag.
“If you’re so desperate to see me in a collar, the person you need to be begging is right in front of you, doll.”
You could not have rolled your eyes harder at his remark. In a huff, you tug the strap of your bag around your frame and stand indignantly.
“You’re actually right for once. James? Keep your mutt on a tighter leash, before I’m forced to be the one that puts him down.” You sneer, flipping your hair over one shoulder and striding up to the girls dormitory before he can get in another word.
Remus sighed, unhappily leaning back against the couch he was currently sprawled across. “You just can’t help yourself, can you?”
Sirius watched as your figure disappeared up the stairs before turning to the boy, a dumb smile playing on his lips.
“She doesn’t hate me nearly as much as she tries to make you believe.” Was all he offered giddily before skillfully changing the subject.
———
Much like the infamous playboy Sirius Black, you were known for how frequently you broke the hearts of anyone you hooked up with. They found that sex with you was a spiritual experience, but were usually crushed when you made it clear you weren’t interested in recurring partners.
When Gryffindor’s Quidditch team won a mid-season match against Ravenclaw, James was relentless in persuading you to come to the after party. And though you weren’t originally keen on the idea, you figured it’d be an ample opportunity to relieve some stress.
The night had gone well. You’d garnered a nice buzz from the punch James made in his dorm and had your eyes fixed on Theodore Nott who’d been snuck in by Marlene.
Sirius, who was working his way onto his third cup of punch, watched you make eyes with the Slytherin boy from across the room.
He sat silently seething as you adjusted in your spot on the couch, crossing your legs while holding that snake’s gaze. In the end, all it took was the simple curl of your index finger for Theodore to hand his drink to an unimpressed Marlene and approach you.
Sirius watched as the two of you exchanged a handful of words before you sultrily dragged the boy away by his collar.
It took a minute for him to register that the styrofoam cup in his grasp was crushed.
After grabbing a napkin, he irritatedly ran a hand through his hair and his breath was ragged.
Why did he care that you were probably seconds from fucking a random guy? He definitely wasn’t one to judge, he’d been with plenty of people over the years.
However, no matter how many times he rolled the idea around in his head, he was getting angrier by the minute.
Remus approached him to spark up a conversation, but he was already slipping past him, towards the direction he watched you disappear to earlier.
He found you in the hallway, lip-locked with Theodore who had a grip on one of your exposed thighs. Meanwhile your hands were tangled in his hair.
Sirius’ body switched into autopilot, moving at such a speed that his brain couldn’t even keep pace.
He had harshly pulled the boy off of you, slung you onto his shoulder and made his way to his dorm. Partygoers standing confused as you beat his back, yelling at him to let you go. Once he’s on the stairs away from prying eyes, he delivers a sharp slap to the exposed skin on your thigh.
“Stop screaming bloody murder, Y/L/N.” is all he says and you bite your lip at the sting.
By the time he locked his door and tossed you onto his bed you’re looking at him like he’s insane. Scurrying to get off the mattress but he quickly grabs you ankle, pulling you back to where he dropped you.
“What the fuck has gotten into you!?” You hiss, watching him run a hand through his locks.
“I’m tired of waiting for you to stop being a brat and realize you like me. Tired of watching you hop on random dicks that aren’t mine. You want to get laid tonight? Fine, fuck me then.” He growls and you’re instantly overwhelmed.
“Did a screw come loose in your head? I don’t know what the hell you’re on but I’m not fucking you all people!” You respond by grasping a pillow from his bed and chucking it at his head. He easily catches it with a roll of his eyes.
“I’ve loved you since our first year, Y/N. And I’ve observed you long enough to know if you genuinely hated me or not.” He confesses and you freeze. His eyes were crystal clear and you’re at a loss of words so he continues.
He gently grasps one of your hands, bringing it up over his heart. You can very faintly feel his heart racing and your brows furrow. He was actually being genuine.
“You want fuck me so bad you’ve officially gone stupid?” You ask but he sees the tiniest smirk on your lips. And for whatever reason, you actually let him move in to kiss you.
He jumps a bit when you bite his bottom lip and you giggle before he’s pressing you back onto the bed.
It’s a fight for dominance, neither of you wanting to be the one that relents.

remember guys! you can ask me to tag them on future updates
Summary: The idea of a soulmate is well known, they will come to you one day, either as a lover or a friend. A single bond made of invisible thread is what will let you feel their emotions, joys and worries, to experience their pain and for them to feel yours.
But beware, for not all blessed unions are meant to be, if you were to hate and push them away, a slow death shall consume them and a garden will bloom within their chest, the flowers will fight and push to feel the sun from the outside, a poetic dead of a broken lover. A beautiful dead for your hollow existence.
You know that your mother was never a good person, or so you have been told.
Miranda meet her when she came from the city to the village, four months pregnant and with the false story of being “sick”, her sickness? She decided to cheat on her rich husband and she wanted to have you away from prying eyes and possibly abandon you here. Your birth giver was upfront about how "Having a bastard could ruin my lifestyle!", Mother Miranda smiled sweetly and had Alcina give your mother refugee and help during the birth, the Lady agreed and housed the woman.
On the night of your birth, Alcina held you in her arms, begging Miranda to let her keep you, but she denied. You were hers and hers alone.
As for your mother? Only Miranda knows what happened to her, but you suspect, that her body is buried somewhere in the forest, alone and forgotten, you couldn’t care any less.
Miranda was the one to raise you, to love you, the one who would be there when you were sick, to kiss your tears away when nightmares woke you up. She was the one to break your body apart and scream in our face how much of a failure you were, just like Alcina or Donna or those pesky lycans running amok outside, but within your failure, she saw minimal success, you were quick to learn how to care for her experiments, which were the signs of cadou rejection and how to treat it, at least, you could be useful until she placed you in the mansion the villagers were building for you.
You have seen so many people been brought to the lab, so many lives being taken for a selfish reason, that you grew numb, there was no anger or pain, you felt no grief when the test subjects saw you and begged for help, you did nothing for there was nothing inside you.
You are surprised when Miranda begins to show interest in a kid, you know he was brought here years ago and somehow had managed to survive the horrors your mother put him through. Interest grew into an obsession and then into pride, hope, you will forever remember how hard Miranda screamed when her golden child came out a failure too, cursing at the skies and asking why? He had been so close to being her perfect little boy and he turned out to be yet another fuck up.
But she doesn’t throw him away, her favoritism shows when she moved him from the medical area into a room in her private chambers, never allowing you to go close to him, slapping you and kicking up a storm whenever she saw you too close to his door, even if you were passing by. But you never resent him, you can’t hate him or her, all you can do is nod and go away.
But curiosity is something hard to get rid of, and so you waited for days almost a month until Mother left to meet up with Alcina, using the moment to sneak into his room. A beautiful room, compared to yours, he had a big bed with a canopy, the thick curtains prevent you from seeing him, it feels like a fairy tale when you part the curtain to peer inside.
Truly like a fairy tale...a beautiful boy lays there, his golden hair is going gray, probably out of stress. He has a couple of scars on his face and some new ones on his arms. You feel like reaching inside and kiss him to break the spell, but it feels...wrong, like if you could tarnish him even further by touching him, like if your mother would appear and toss you aside for laying one of your dirty hands on his skin. No matter how bad you wish to be his Knight and save him, the terror you feel over defying Mother Miranda’s orders makes you stay still.
And then, it happened.
It began as an agonizing stab in your chest, it made you trip backwards painfully slamming your head against the wall, gasping for air when the pain as a needle began to pierce through you slowly making its way to your heart, a pitiful sob left your mouth, rendering you useless while your body overcomes the initial discomfort. It takes all of your willpower to get straight and look up at the ceiling through your tears, the light it's blinding and it leaves you dizzy, almost ready to empty your stomach.
Karl Heisenberg, age eleven, lays on his luxurious-looking bed, his entire body shakes painfully, breaking through his mouth, and the fever that's racking his body is the only thing keeping him from noticing that, his soulmate is standing a couple of steps away from his bed.
But how do you even know this?
Because Miranda told you about the concept of someone blindingly loving you for all eternity, who would be your other half and the missing piece to your broken existence, Dimitrescu once said that those stories were silly little fantasies, that love should be won over and one should prove to be the right person for someone else and not just have it “hand it over”.
You used to dream of the day you would feel the connection between yourself and another person, of being able to experience their joy when their eyes fell on you. But this is far from what you wanted, what you always wished for! All you can feel is pain, radiating from so many places in your body, rendering you useless, overwhelmed with anger, grief, sorrow for “yourself”.
Everything quickly piles up, so consumed by what Karl is feeling that you don’t hear the tray that falls and the porcelain plates that shatter, you vaguely register the sting of Miranda slapping you and the distant sound of her screams.
She drags you out of the room and into the cold world outside her home, across the heartless forest and you wonder...if you might end up like your mother, buried under some tree to be forgotten. But Miranda keeps walking until she throws you at the feet of Lady Dimitrescu, speaking to the tall woman and leaving you under her care, forever.
When you were younger, you used to fear the Lady. She was imposing and so strong, a self-made matriarch, but she's so careful when helping you up and guiding you through her beautiful home, her hands are so kind when she helps you to undress and sit in the tub filled with warm water, racking her fingers through your messy hair...so this is what a mother truly is like?
She only leaves you alone when she goes to fetch anything you could wear, looking displeased when she hands you a maid's uniform "We must send for the seamstress, I cannot have you wearing those shabby clothes" that, for some reason gets you to smile.
Later, her movements are soft as she runs a brush through your hair, the fire makes the wood crack and explode, filling the room with a nice warmth, something you never lacked off but that never truly permeated your body.
"Y/N, care to explain why mother Miranda was so angry, earlier?" you hear the concern in her voice, a bit of worry hidden in a stern tone.
Alcina can see you shrink a bit, as if ashamed of what you had done “I saw the kid mother keeps in her chambers” it comes out like a whisper, scared of Miranda appearing at that moment to slap you again “I think he’s my soul mate, Alcina!”
Lady Dimitrescu chuckles lightly and smiles when you turn around to look at her ”Your soul mate, some dirty man-thing? Oh my sweet girl I hope it isn’t real and you were just revolted by the sight of a man!”
“But I felt his pain and his emotions...it was scary, but maybe he will love me!”
“Just because you can feel what he feels, doesn’t mean everything will be alright. That’s why those romances are so volatile, darling! There’s no real reason for them to work beyond being stubborn and tell yourself that it will work out” the lady is classy and gracious in her movements as she poured herself another glass of wine “That the other person at the end of your bond will fall to their knees the moment they see you, but in reality, they might resent your sole existence and end up killing you!”
“Killing me?” that comes as a surprise, you have never heard of this.
“Yes...a cruel and unjust dead” Alcina brings you to her lap letting one of her hands spread over your small chest with a sorrowful look on her face “Your lungs will get infested with flowers, a bouquet of throe will bloom within your body, each day the garden will grow and fight to see the sun beyond your mouth and it will rob you of all air and kill you in no time”
She sees you wonder about it, a million questions that you wish to ask, everything falling apart when her curious daughters come into the room, moved by the rumors some maids had shared about their mother adopting another child. All too eager to know their new sister.
After that day, the topic is never brought up.
You grow and learn everything under Alcina’s guidance, the woman is hellbent on making a lady out of you. She teaches you how to read and write, about math and how to sing, applauding when you show her the gift the cadou in your stomach gave you, Midas' touch.
Her daughters and your self-appointed sisters, all laugh and joke around you, treat you like if you were another human when you are no different from their mother, another failed creation, a remainder that Miranda was cursed to not have what she wants. But the love of your little family drowns those thoughts, leaving the happiness of your existence in a nice home and the ever-presence of pain and resentment in the back of your head.
As you grow you notice, each cut and wound that leaves a scar on your skin turns to gold when made by you, but looks as pale lines when made by Heisenberg. You can’t help but laugh when the idea of being a piece of pottery repaired via kintsugi pops in your head, and for a moment you ask yourself if Heisenberg also has golden scars to match yours?
You cry the day when you finally leave the castle, trying hard to convey your love for your mother and sisters with hugs and kisses, in low whispers, promises of coming over as much as you can. The Lady kisses your forehead and sends you off with some final words of advice.
"Never lower your head and always do your best, remember you have us and we would never let you fall"
You are eighteen when you become the miracle worker of the village, crafting medicines with alchemy, signing at the church when the congregation asks you to, turning anything into gold with your touch, smiling with grace, and claiming to have been blessed with a precious gift by Mother Miranda to help the poor and keep the village off absolute agony. In the end, everything tastes like vile and ash, the forced smiles and the sweet tone of your voice make you gang behind the long veil that covers your face.
The days when you sing at the church, are the only ones when you can feel all his hatred directed at you, each painful stab making your eyes tear, yet you keep on making the people happy with hymns crafted before you were even born. If you could let him feel how similar your anger for Miranda is, perhaps the pain in your chest would dissipate, but you can't because you are hollow.
Among the villagers you are Lady Y/N L/N, the golden touch child, you are adored and blindly loved, Miranda smiles radiantly whenever she hears nothing but good words from her cattle, how much they dote on you, ready to serve without a thought, the eagerness to work under you. You may have been a failed vessel but you are a success as a flycatcher, bringing the sheep down to the slaughterhouse to be sent to the other Lords.
On meeting day, the pain and emotions that you feel seem to amplify the closer you are to Heisenberg.
As you sit beside your adoptive mother, your smaller hand in hers, while Mother Miranda speaks and praises each one of her children, lingering a bit too much on her golden child. The pressure in your chest grows, it feels like when you submerge in the tub as if your lungs were being crushed under an invisible force, ready to cough and gasp for air.
Across from you, he sits, posture closed and annoyed beyond belief when Miranda asks him to stay a bit longer after the meeting is done, you feel relief when Lady Dimitrescu gets up, opting to ignore Heisenberg in favor of bringing you back to the castle for your scheduled visit.
You two aren't even halfway through your journey back when you notice you are missing something, a small gift for today's reunion, a bag of fine jasmine tea.
"Mother, I need to get back. It seems I misplaced something, you go ahead!"
There's no time for Alcina to respond before you volt back to the church, the soft lace of your veil beautifully flying behind your hurried steps, slowly dropping your speed the closer you get to the entrance of the building, from it you can see Miranda, she as shed her mask off and is touching Heisenberg's face the way you have seen brides or wives touch their husbands' faces.
A pulse of repugnance and despise make you stumble back, pressing your back against the outer wall, it feels like the first time you met him, it's blinding and leaves you disoriented for a second, a hand flies up to your mouth when a wave of nausea hits you. He's not only pissed, he feels filthy and is suppressing a murderous intent behind a mask of indifference.
The sensation grows and grows until it's crushing you. One look up and you see him standing before you, a hand caging you between him and pillar.
"What are you doing here, freak? The tall bitch sent you to spy on me? tell her to fuck off" this isn't the first time you hear his voice, but it feels like it, even if his words are filled with malice, they taste like bitter wine for you.
"NO!...I mean...no, Lord Heisenberg. I came back because I lost something, a small bag"
"So you are afraid the dog stole from you, are you calling me a thief?" your mouth opens to explain to him once more, but the burly man only growls and steps away "Think whatever you want, I can't care any less for whatever the scum thinks of me"
Later, in the solitude of your home, you will call yourself an idiot, asking yourself why you reached for his empty hand when he turned around ready to leave, why you didn't revealed who you were, why you didn't cried when the man slammed your body against the wall.
"DON'T YOU DARE TO TOUCH ME, BITCH!" Heisenberg's tobacco infused breath hits your face, the painful stab of hatred felt like if your body were being torn apart "I CAN'T STAND PEOPLE LIKE YOU, YOU MAKE SICK!"
This time, when he turns around to leave, you don't reach out, you stay there, gasping for hair and coughing like if you were drowning, a slick sensation in your throat makes you gag and cough harder than before, both of your hands are cupped over your mouth, scared at the idea of throwing up.
Thank God you don't.
The moment passes and your body calms down, but your eyes grow wide when you see what made you gag.
A single yellow carnation petal covered in spit rests between your hands.

Catnap {Diavolo x Reader/MC}
A/N: a fic in which i wanted diavolo to experience PAIN but also know he is L O V E D because i couldnt help but remember that he once said asmo never invites him to parties and it broke my frozen heart,
{Diavolo x Reader/MC}
Diavolo’s eyes were downcast as he walked along, listening to Barbatos drone on about his schedule for the rest of the day. Of course, he knew it was important and definitely something he needed to do as it was his duty, yet, he couldn’t help but long for a sense of freedom. He longed for a time he could simply be himself, not worry about his princely duties—he longed for something, he just wasn’t quite sure what. Of course, he knew Barbatos was simply doing his own job, but it didn’t stop the prince from zoning out. He could hear the shorter man give an exasperated sigh before repeating his last few sentences. Maybe a walk around R.A.D.’s campus would help him focus.
It wasn’t helping. He sighed during the entire walk, each time getting a little more dramatic; he hunched his shoulders and slouched a bit more with each heave, dragging his feet along the ground as though he were a toddler throwing a temper-tantrum. His pitch was whiny, and he secretly did feel bad for his unbecoming behaviour towards Barbatos, but he couldn’t help himself.
As though it were a beam of light on a cloudy day, something had caught his attention from the corner of his eye, and turned his entire mood around. Without raising Barbatos’ suspicion—or so he thought—his gaze honed in on a small, stray kitten walking along the path behind the shorter man. His face instinctually turned to one mixed with shock and adoration, both attempted to hide behind the thin veil of collectiveness. Golden eyes kept flickering from his butler to the tiny mammal behind him.
“As I said before, after meeting with Lucifer to go over the budget for...” Barbatos scrunched his nose before interrupting himself. “My lord, you aren’t paying attention again.”
“What?” Diavolo’s shoulders stiffened as he let out a half-hearted laugh, “Of course I am!”
“.....What are you distracted by?”
“It’s nothing! Wait--”
Before Diavolo’s outstretched hand could stop him, Barbatos turned to lock eyes with the kitten that had caught his liege's attention. He held his stare as if the two of them had a contest going without so much as a word, until the kitten had meowed up at him.
“It’s talking to you!”
“I wish it wouldn’t.”
“Don’t be mean to it, it’s cute!”
“My lord, we do need to get through this schedule for the day--”
“I’d much rather sit with this kitten.”
Diavolo quickly jumped at the chance to get down on all fours to level with the kitten, ignoring Barbatos’ pleas for him to not ruin his uniform. He cooed as the kitten rubbed against his face, meowing softly at him in response to his badly-attempted meows, and rolled onto its back to play with one of the pendants hanging off of his coat. A genuine laugh erupted from the man as he pet the creature.
“I’m glad you’re thoroughly enjoying yourself, Lord Diavolo, however we do need to get going now--”
“I’ve decided to keep it!”
“Absolutely not.”
“What!”
Like a child who was told no in the toy store—or a better comparison would have been a kicked puppy—Diavolo looked up at him with pleading eyes and a pouting lip. He mumbled to himself, about being the prince and frankly doing whatever he’d like, as though he truly were a child.
“My lord, a cat in the castle would be a terrible idea. You are too busy to see to one--”
“You could do it!”
“--and I’m too busy ensuring you’re taken care of to worry about the cat as well.”
Diavolo groaned and rose to his feet, keeping his back towards Barbatos. After agreeing that he would be right, he attempted to walk off and change the subject towards the schedule Barbatos was so adamant about, only to jolt to a stop as the butler cleared his throat.
“My lord--”
“I thought you said we were busy!” Diavolo chuckled, attempting to continue again, “Let’s go!”
“The cat, my lord.”
“It ran into the bushes--”
“Please take the cat out of your coat pocket.”
Hanging his head as he was caught, he placed the kitten gently onto the path, watching it scamper away, chasing after some sort of bug. He crossed his arms and jutted his lip out into a pout, keeping his glare just a tad icy towards Barbatos. Again, he was aware he was just doing his job, but the kitten was so adorable and just the distraction he felt that he needed, and his friend simply just wouldn’t allow him to have it; so, he listened. He listened intensively, absorbing each word Barbatos had thrown him and repeated key points to prove he had listened. His eyes, however, flickered to the small animal who kept running in and out of the bushes, tempting his willpower and attention an embarrassing amount.
Before he had realized it, however, one of the seven brothers had also been walking along campus. Noticing the two of them talk, Satan minded his own business and only stopped as a kitten randomly appeared in his path. Without so much as a second thought, he scooped the animal up and kept on his way, not realizing the heartbroken, utter shock that had washed over the Devildom’s prince.
“That seems to be the end of it, Lord Diavolo. Shall we move on to our meeting--”
“Did you see that!”
Barbatos tilted his head and looked behind him where Diavolo had been pointing; he used all of his might not to raise an eyebrow at his boss.
“See... what, exactly?”
“The--”
“If you’re going to mention the cat again, then please forgive me for cutting you off. We simply cannot have the cat.”
“But Satan took it!”
“Ah, then you should take solace in knowing that cat is well taken care of. Now, moving on to our meeting, my lord.”
Without so much as another word, Barbatos ushered Diavolo off towards their next location, the cat never left his mind.
***
By the end of the day, MC had noticed something weighing on the prince. He seemed sluggish, lost in thought, a million miles away in those eyes as they sat across the room from him. During the rare moment he sat alone, MC approached him casually.
“Hey,” they leaned against the edge of his desk, “something on your mind?”
“Oh? Was it obvious?”
“I’m just a really good guesser.”
Diavolo leaned back in his chair and shot them an award-winning smile, the hearty, whimsical laugh he’s known for followed suit.
“Then that must be your version of magic, interesting. I’ll admit there is something on my mind that I just can’t shake.”
“Care to tell me what it is?”
Before MC could even get the last syllable out, Diavolo slammed his hands on the desk and stood instantly. He leaned in towards them with wide eyes and a slight pout, not noticing that his sudden closeness caused MC to swallow hard.
“Satan took my cat!”
“..... I’m sorry, what?”
“My cat! He took it!”
“You... had a cat?”
“Yes! No! Kind of?”
“Diavolo, not to sound rude but... I’m really not following.”
He sat back down and bit the inside of his cheek, sighing heavily before explaining himself.
“There was this kitten, outside, it was absolutely adorable. The roundest little face, big eyes, soft fur—it was tiny, too! Just the perfect little thing, and I wanted to take it home! Take care of it! But--”
“But?” MC dragged out their syllables.
“But,” Diavolo mimicked their actions, “Barbatos said it was impossible to take care of a cat as of now. He refused to let me take it, and not only that, but I had to watch in silence as Satan came along and took the cat as his own!”
“Well, if Satan took it--”
“Then it’s in good hands, yes, Barbatos said the same; that isn’t the point!”
Diavolo held his tongue on what truly bothered him, hoping that MC-the-great-guesser wouldn’t take notice that his burst of emotions dug much deeper than just a little cat he met outside. A thought passed his mind and it clicked for him—a plan—he'd have to think more about. He composed himself, stood up and straightened out his coat before shooting another large, fake smile towards the human.
“Anyway, I have other meetings to get to, unfortunately. It is my duty, after all. My apologies for being so... emotional, but thank you for lending me your time.”
MC’s eyes followed as he stiffly walked from the room. He may have been the prince of Devildom, but MC couldn’t hide the smile on their lips towards his childish behaviour they grew to find endearing. They did wonder what deeper emotions were hidden behind his need for the cat, however.
***
Relaxing by the window, MC was startled to hear a light knock against the glass in the middle of the night. Terrified, they very slowly turned their head to meet face to face with a disheveled prince, smiling from ear to ear. Tossing fear and confusion aside, they rushed to open the window and called out to him in a hushed tone.
“Diavolo? What are you doing here? I mean... here, and also, at my window.” They grabbed his hands and helped him start to climb in. “There is a front door, you know. I’m pretty sure Lucifer wants you to use it. Should I let him know you’re here--”
“No!” Diavolo cried as he fell forward through the window. He sat up as though nothing had happened. “I’m here in secret, please keep it between the two of us!”
“Al...right, but why exactly are you here? Not that I’m not happy to see you, but it is the middle of the night, and you know it seems...” They couldn’t finish their statement due to nerves and turned away to keep the red on their cheeks hidden.
“Hm? Oh, about that!” He stood up suddenly, “I’m going on an adventure! Come with me!”
“Shh! You’re the one who said this was a ‘secret visit’, so keep your voice down!”
“Right!” He lowered his voice, “I’m going on an adventure, so come with me.”
“Where exactly is your adventure going to lead us? Does Barbatos know--”
“No, he does not and he doesn’t need to!”
Diavolo’s eyebrows were drawn together, nose scrunched in irritation. He sighed and shook his head, forcing an apologetic smile on his lips.
“My apologies, I mean, this isn’t a matter that concerns Barbatos. I came to you for assistance this time, I thought perhaps we could have some fun; what do you say?”
MC twisted their lips to the side, eyeing whatever the tall man was hiding; it didn’t take much to see that he was, in fact, hiding something... but what was it? They nodded, agreeing to whatever plan he may have, knowing they couldn’t just let the prince of Devildom run off and make childish mistakes on his own. MC would get in trouble with Barbatos at that point, and they shivered at the thought of being on bad terms with him. Once they silently agreed, Diavolo captured their hand in his—blind to the eruption of blush across their face—and quickly slipped into the hall.
They were dragged along as Diavolo tiptoed dramatically, peeking around corners and hiding in the shadows. MC was flung around as though they were some sort of paper doll. Diavolo seemed way too out of his element to sneak around properly, so MC called out to him quietly to have him take a moment and explain just what he was doing.
“Stop, stop. You’re terrible at this. Where are you going anyway? The front door isn’t up the stairs--”
“Our destination is, though!” He said in a hushed shout, his movements a bit antsy. “We have to go up.”
“To where, exactly?”
“Hush!”
He covered their mouth with his hand, oblivious to how it caused their heart flutter, he focused his attention to the sound of walking in the hallway behind them. Diavolo rushed them along, stopping at a door and quickly attempting to jiggle his way through the lock. MC faced the hallway, wary of the approaching footsteps and faint voices as they kept watch; Diavolo simply used magic to unlock the handle, and pulled MC in so quick he literally swept them off of their feet. Both of them held an ear against the door and heard as two of the brothers made their way back to their rooms. Before MC could give a sigh of relief, they could hear Diavolo cooing at something in a baby tone. A light bulb went off in their head as they slowly turned to face the room, a look of distaste, disbelief, and irritation graced their features.
“We broke into Satan’s room.”
“Yes!” Diavolo held the kitten up to his face, laughing as it give his cheek a few kisses.
“A cat.”
“Yes!”
“We broke in... to Satan’s room,” MC put heavy emphasis on Satan being the owner, “to steal a cat.”
“Yes.”
“Diavolo!” MC shouted before quickly quieting back down, “We’re dead if we’re caught in here! Well, I will be. You’re the prince of Devildom, you probably won’t be. But I will be. Satan is going to get pissed, oh my god, I’m going to die, aren’t I? I am. I’m going to die. I’m--”
Diavolo held the kitten up to MC’s face, the latter stopping their rant in their tracks as the kitten gave their nose a few kisses. They couldn’t stop themselves from getting red at how cute the prince seemed to smile at them, but they forced disapproval on their features.
“He had the kitten I wanted. I couldn’t simply ask him for it, even if he agreed, Barbatos would make me return it.”
“What difference is that opposed to stealing it?”
Diavolo sat on the ground and stared at the kitten in his hands, a faraway look of longing replaced his usual cheerful smile. MC refused to let him play it off again.
“What’s actually eating at you?”
“The difference, I guess...” he couldn’t meet their eye and instead focused on petting the cat, “is the adventure. The ability to do something so ridiculous for the thrill and fun of it all. Throwing aside the fact that I’m the prince, for once. Just being a person, since people don’t tend to treat me that way. I thought... if I could have this cat, even after being told no, I could have a sense of freedom. It sounds absolutely ridiculous hearing myself say it out loud. Definitely not the presence a ruler should have, huh?”
His sad smile broke MC’s heart in two. Without a word, they moved next to him; he thought they were going to pet the cat so he offered it to them, but their hand landed on top of his head instead. Their voice was quiet and filled with honey, each word dripping with sincerity.
“I dunno. I think you’re pretty neat. I like hanging out with you, as you are.”
It was Diavolo’s turn to look dazed with wide eyes and a blush across his face. He quickly composed himself with a tender smile and a whimsical laugh; there were quite a few things running through his mind that he wished he could say to MC, but nothing would come out clear enough. Instead, the two of them resided in a peaceful silence, his smile and relaxed shoulders showed how thankful he was to hear that from them. They had gotten lost in the peace, petting the kitten and playing around with the spunky little thing, they hadn’t heard anything come up behind them, nor had they felt the frightful aura shift in the area.
“What are you two doing in my room?”

Midnight Adventures–Zac Efron
Tumblr media
Zac's been across the sea filming his Down To Earth episodes. We haven't had much communication. A few crappy service Facetimes, slow text messages, and rare emails were all we had. In every email I got from him, he promised to call me when he was on his way home.
Zac and I met while filming Neighbors. He was Teddy and I was someone in the background. The first day we met, he had accidentally bumped into me, almost knocking me down. He caught me and from that day on, things changed.
We started going to lunch together, hanging out on the weekend, and constantly texting. After the movie came out, we kept getting lunch together, hanging out on the weekend, and constantly texting. It was just a friendship, but a lot of people thought it was more.
I got back from my run to see a voicemail from Zac. As I got my things together to shower, I listened to the message.
"Hey, Y/N," Zac's voice came through the message. "You told me to call you and let you know that I made it home safe. Well, I made it home!"
My heart skipped a beat when I heard him laugh. "We aren't home-home. We're at the airport."
Suddenly, there was an awkward silence on the line. I heard Zac sigh and clear his throat.
"I know it's late, but can I come by? I really need. . . want to see you," he quickly corrected. "These past few months, I've been feeling a little weird. I don't know. I'm not. . . It seems like. . . I haven't been that. . . I don't really know how to explain it. All I know is that I really need to see you, Y/N."
When the message ended, I slowly pulled my phone away from my ear. Zac left me that message 40 minutes ago. I tried texting him, but he hasn't responded. I replayed his message, the tone and shakiness of his voice making me nervous. When the third call went to voicemail and the twelfth text went unanswered, I gave up and decided to shower.
                                * * * * *
I hung up my towel before walking out of my bathroom. As soon as I stepped into my bedroom, I heard a soft knock. I looked over, holding in a laugh when I saw Zac on my balcony. I walked over and opened the door, leaning against the doorframe.
"I'm surprised you're here, Troy," I teased. "Don't you have early practice tomorrow before school?"
"Ha-ha," he fake laughed. "No 'Welcome Home, Zac' or 'I've missed you, best friend'? Not even a hug. Straight to the insults."
"How else are we supposed to act?" I joked.
I walked over and wrapped my arms around him. He laughed as he wrapped his arms around me. I felt him slightly relax into my arms.
"I've missed you," he whispered.
"I've missed you too."
I pulled out of the hug and froze. It was then that I realized what he was wearing. I bit my lip as I playfully hit one of the balls.
"What is on your head?" I asked, trying to hold in my laughter.
"I got it in Coast Rica," he said, playing with the pieces hanging down.
"It's very fashionable," I said, struggling to hold in my laughter. He sent me a glare before breaking.
"Let's go," he said, still laughing.
"Go where?"
"On an adventure," he said like it was obvious.
"I don't know what time it is in Costa Rica, but here it's past midnight."
"And?" He shrugged. I opened my mouth to say no, but he cut me off. "Fortune never smiles on those who say no."
                                   * * * * *
As we drove in Zac's car, I noticed him oddly awake. I looked over and saw him eagerly bouncing his knee.
"I see the jetlag is still in the works," I smirked.
Zac looked over at me and sent me a playful wink. He turned his attention back to the road as we kept going. A few minutes later, I found myself struggling to stay awake.
"Are you going to tell me where we're going?" I sighed, leaning my head on the headrest.
He glanced over at me, his eyes softening when he saw the tired look in my eyes. He reached over and grabbed my hand, instantly intertwining our fingers.
"I know it's late," he said, his voice dropping as he turned back to the road. "And I'm sorry. I just wanted to see you."
I didn't push him any further on the subject. I forced myself to sit up in hopes of staying awake. Zac didn't let go of my hand the rest of the way. I looked over at him confused when we pulled up to a hiking trail.
"Umm. . . Zac?"
"Yeah?" He said, turning towards me.
"Isn't there like. . . Doesn't hiking trails close when it gets dark?"
"Most do," he laughed as he got out of the car.
I stayed in the car as he got out and jogged to my side. He grabbed my hand and helped me out of the car. He kept my hand in his as we looked at the path.
"I did some research and this hiking trail is well lit," he started to explain. "It's known for late-night hikes. People take this trail when they want to hike under a sky of stars."
"But. . ."
"Y/N," he said, turning towards me when he sensed my nerves. "This is completely safe, I promise. I wouldn't take you somewhere you could get hurt."
I took a shaky breath that Zac responded to by squeezing my hand. "Besides," he whispered, "we aren't going to get separated."
"What if. . ."
"I won't let us," he quickly interrupted me. "I promise, Y/N, I'll be right by your side the entire time."
"Okay," I sighed, still a little nervous.
Just like Zac promised, he was by my side the entire hike. In fact, he never let go of my hand. When we got to the top of the trail, it was worth the midnight hike.
"Wow," I whispered when I saw the view. There was something both beautiful and eerie about the city at night. Only a few lights were on and the moon lit the rest.
"I know," Zac chuckled.
He tightened his grip on my hand, slightly pulling me closer to him. After a few beats of silence, I finally asked him the question that's been bouncing around my head since he showed up at my place.
"Can I ask you something?" I hesitated.
"Of course," Zac laughed. His smile fell when he saw me wrapping my arms tightly around myself. He quickly took off his zip-up and wrapped it around my shoulders.
"Thanks," I whispered. He smiled as he zipped it up.
"So," he cleared his throat. "You had a question for me?"
"Yeah," I stuttered. "Why did you knock on my balcony door at midnight and ask me to go on an adventure?"
"I missed you," he shrugged.
"If you missed me, you could've come over in the morning. Not at midnight as soon as you got off the plane. What's going on?"
"I wanted to take my best friend on an adventure. What's wrong with that?" He laughed.
"You left me this weird message before you got on the plane and then showed up at my place, begging to take me on a midnight adventure. That isn't normal, Zac. You've been gone three months filming and. . ."
I gasped as he cut me off and pressed his lips to mine. Once the shock wore off, I started to kiss him back. The kiss was soft, slow, and almost hesitant.
Zac slowly broke the kiss, leaning back so he could see my expression. Our breathing matched as we tried to get it under control. I opened and closed my mouth, struggling to figure out what to say. Thankfully, Zac spoke up first.
"The reason I needed to see you when I got home was because I missed you," he whispered. "But not the normal amount. I spent every day the last few months, wishing you were with me. The show was amazing and I had some incredible experiences but they would've been better if you were there to experience them with me. The more I missed you, the more I realized why."
Instead of continuing, Zac leaned in and pressed his lips back to mine. Our lips immediately started moving in sync as we stood at the top of the trail, looking over the sleeping city. He broke the kiss and leaned his forehead on mine.
"Why did you miss me so much?" I asked, my voice barely a whisper. Zac chuckled as he leaned back and wrapped his arms around my waist, pulling me into his chest.
"Because I'm in love with you."
The way he said it was so simple, it felt like it was something we both should've known for a long time.
"You're in love with me," I slowly repeated. He smiled as he reached up and tucked a piece of hair behind my ear, his hand lingering on my cheek.
"Yes, I am." He said firmly. His smile slightly fell as he let go of my cheek. "I don't know when things changed, but I know they did. I hope I didn't ruin our friendship by doing this or. . ."
I cut him off by standing on my toes and pressing my lips to his. I felt him smile against my lips as he started kissing me back. I let out a small moan as he tightened his arms around me, pulling me closer to his chest.
I slowly slid my hands up his chest and wrapped my arms around his neck. I giggled into the kiss as he picked me up. We broke the kiss, Zac still holding me up.
We stared into each other's eyes as we caught our breath. Zac slowly put me down but didn't let me go.
"I'm in love with you."
"You're in love with me?" He repeated. I smiled at the smirk on his face.
"I guess so," I whispered as he leaned in and pressed his lips to mine.
Once we broke the kiss, we decided to head home. We walked back down the trail the same way we did on the way up, hand-in-hand, but it was different.
When we got to his car, I smiled as he held the door open for me. We headed home, the only sound coming from the radio. I smiled when he reached over and grabbed my hand, intertwining our fingers. Right as I was about to fall asleep, I heard Zac whisper something.
"See? It wasn't a bad midnight adventure."

Tumblr media
the ring of the intercom and the bustling life of students. the clatter of shoes against the blue tile and chatter of passing conversation, definitely fell on deaf ears. your form slumping against the desk, and the weight of your face leaning into your palm.
it'd been a couple days since your last run in with tobio, and the whole ordeal of the bathroom incident. the thoughts of him still living rent free in your mind-- at how his eyebrows scrunched up. pursed lips and the weeping tip of his cock, almost blushing the same shade of rose that graced his cheeks.
wait. you shook your head. no. you told yourself you wouldn't think of him like that anymore.
tobio doesn't deserve to be a rebound. he deserves to be treasured, and loved correctly. your job was to keep that awkward, wobbly smile on his face when sipping on his milk straw. you were to worry about his studies, and whether he goes straight home after practice.
the last thing that should be bothering you is the voice at the back of your head. tethering your mindset elsewhere, and questioning why he was jacking off in the school bathroom in the first place.
what made him so frustrated that he went during class?
did he like someone that much? was it someone you knew?
was that someone perhaps you?
"so will you do it?" hands slamming down on your desk, you bolt upright in shock. snapped out of a day dream, you're met with the sight of michimiya, captain of the girls' volleyball team. a crumb or two still on her face, her lopsided grin holds hope when she stares down at you.
"h-huh?" you barely register her words to respond, still alarmed. "i asked if you were willing to drop off our gym's keys after practice. i need to hurry home to do something-- but…" she retracts her hands and props them on her hips. "... are you doing alright? you've seem out of it these couple days. it's not like you."
"if i could turn back time and fix what i did, i would."
your nose scrunches up a bit at the impromptu flashback. "just peachy."
"oh really?" a tinge of sarcasm sprinkled into her reply, you luckily miss the flash of pity in her eyes when you finally look up at her.
 almost as if she knew.
"well, i hope things get better for you."
"yeah, yeah." you wave off the topic. "but you said you needed me to drop off keys or something?"
"ah, right!" her usual go-lucky smile making an appearance. "sawamura asked if he could borrow our gym after practice for the last couple days, but i have to promised to run some errands back at home. i was hoping you could swing by the club room after student council, and drop off the keys for me?"
you bit back a laugh, trying to keep the best poker face you could- as the pleading expression on her face looked like something out of a cartoon. "i don't know…"
"oh my goodness, please! i already promised sawamura, and it's already hard enough, trying to get all the members to get to practice and-"
you grab her shoulders, halting the blubbering, and frantic look in her eyes. "calm down, yui! i was only joking- of course i will."
rain was something tooru despised.
his complaints were one of a child, as it ruined his hair. it made everything sticky, and smell like wet dog. being out too long would make him sick, and if there was too much of it- it would turn into a storm. it could turn into a hurricane. or even a typhoon.
and it's honestly ironic, even as you hold your bag over your head. your rubber sneakers hitting the mud and pavement, rushing to get under the roof of the club building. much to your luck, the reminiscent squeak of rubber isn't heard, as the gym doors were shut. letting out a huff, the sheer amount of relief that pours over you when the familiar screech of the metal door opens is a blessing.
"hey! you made it-- oh my gosh, get inside!" he cuts off his warm greeting, as he grabs your wrist, pulling you into the room before the door slams behind you. "holy crap, you're drenched."
"thanks for stating the obvious, daichi." you snarkily remark, but still giving him a small smile.
you knew daichi for a lot of reasons. being the karasuno boys' volleyball captain, he's been noted as one of dependability. a solid rock in a foundation, and everything the student body says about him is relatively positive.
but even as a third year, you can still remember his shenanigans like it was yesterday. how he dashed past you whilst racing the basketball team's captain, and accidentally hitting the fire alarm. you couldn't even count how many times he'd had a run in with the principal's toupee.
but even now, in his plain tee and black shorts-- there's this responsible look in his eyes. a quality only built up by experience, and you mentally applaud him. especially when you learn the sheer amount of siblings he had.
"here's the keys for the other gym." you drop the keys into his open palm.
"ah, thanks." a hand moves to the back of his neck, a tell tale sign of his nervousness. "but i thought michimiya was dropping these off."
"yui had something to do today, so she asked me to. hope you don't mind it being me instead of your girlfriend."
his eyes widen, beginning to frantically shake his hands in front of him. "n-no! that's not what i meant at all! she's not even my girlfriend, i-" he cuts himself off at the sound of your laugh, as you clutch a palm on your mouth. a grin peaks through his annoyance. "hey! why're you laughing so bad?"
"i'm sorry but what the heck is this?" you push past him to point at the poster at the far right corner of the room.
"bikini girls? really?"
the blush that comes over his face is absolutely hilarious. "t-that was-!"
"man, who knew sawamura daichi, captain of the volleyball club was a boob man! wait until yui hears about this!" you almost double over in laughter, watching steam puff out of daichi's ears in utter embarrassment.
"don't you have somewhere to be?" he tries to divert the subject, only to hear a crack of thunder beat you to a response. the onslaught of rain beginning to hit the window panes at full force, and the lights flickering. "... nevermind."
"i meant to ask, is it okay if i'm in here?" looking down, you fiddle with the hem of your skirt. "this is the boys' club room after all."
unfortunately for daichi, the implication doesn't go over his head. and the fact that you're confused about why his face seems to flush a further shade of red seems to seal the deal.
that man, does daichi hates being a guy right now.
his initial intent was to simply shield you from the rain. the simple connection that he didn't want you to get further drenched, and fall sick because of the favor he asked for. but now?
he feels guilty when his eyes draw lower, the tune of your laughter and friendly banter playing like background music. he swallows at the translucency of your uniforms while dress shirt. how the faint blue shape of your bra cups your chest, and how the damp fabric seems to cling to your skin. the jealousy of the water droplets that run down your neck and into the divet of your collarbones.
you're in the boys' volleyball club room right now. clothes and gym bags strewn about, the smell of teenage cologne, and all alone.
"t-the rest of the club is in the gym with the coaches." daichi stutters, before coughing to clear his throat. "we can just wait until it lightens up and make a dash for it."
"sounds like a plan! how's tobio doing with sho-- achoo!" you start, only to sneeze mid way.
"crap, your clothes are soaked from the rain." you hurry to wipe your nose, as daichi hands a set of spare clothes toward you. "here."
you raise an eyebrow. "why do you have another set of gym clothes?"
"after hinata puked at our seijoh game, i'm not taking any more chances-- oh shit, wait!" he explains, before his eyes widen at your fingers undoing your blouse buttons, and hurriedly turning the other direction.
you giggle at his panic stricken face, before proceeding to peel the dampened cloth off your body, and your mind still processing the fact he had to have mentioned seijoh. but then a voice chimes in from the back of your head, crying out desperately.
"if i could turn back time and fix what i did, i would."
it's truly unfortunate. and you genuinely sorry for daichi, as you dig into the pocket of your soaked blazer, and pressing the lone button on the stop watch. the pattering of the droplets against the window, halting in its path. the swirl of winds silencing, and the thunder strike through the air, simply pausing at your fingertips.
you're not stupid. you knew where daichi's eyes trailed, especially as you drop your underwear and skirt to the floor, altogether. stepping out of the clothes and bounding toward the captain, sinking to your knees, and staring up at the frozen crimson tint of his face.
you knew the moment you were pulled into this room, that this was a bad idea. and right then and there, your entire consciousness told you that this was your chance to be a good person.
… but was tooru ever a good person?
you let out a small gasp as you grab at his clothed bulge, already half hard through the cloth of his shorts. feeling yourself salivate, you begin to slowly pump. pawing at his size, coaxing him into a full erection.
and honestly, you wonder what would go through daichi's head right now. what would this man think as you pulled down his athletic wear, and how you stared at him in pure wonder. what would he do when his cock lewdly slaps against his abdomen, and falls shy of your lips? what would he do when you swirl your tongue over hips tip, lapping up the weeping cry of arousal, and savoring his taste? taking him deeper, peering back up through fogging vision, as your struggle, and choke around him. coating him in spit, saliva dripping down your chin, and making an utter mess.
you coo at how responsive he is, even when unconscious. the frozen look of his face is one of guilt, but the tips of his ears are the same shade of his cock. you wish to tell him that it's alright, as you were definitely more of a sinner than him. popping off of his length and heaving a full breath, you stand. cupping his face by the cheek, and gently nudging his face to meet yours.
"sorry." your whisper fans hotly against his face, as you continue. moving his limbs almost like a doll, laying him against the floor, and having your legs on either side of his hips.
but if you were going to have fun, it's only fair you'd share it.
the thunder strikes far from where you are, and the heavy breeze makes the windows wobble. but daichi doesn't seem to care- as everything hits him like a truck.
the slick of your mouth, and the choke of your throat. the pumps of your soft hand against his shaft- and how you brutally sink your weeping cunt onto him. the ungiving clench and sheer heat of your pussy had his hands flying to your hips. his eyes widening at the sight of your hands against his chest. fucking yourself onto his cock, moaning his name like a mantra, and lust blown gaze staring right back at him- his eyes roll back as everything becomes too much.
he cums. rope upon rope of milky essence spills from him, legs shaking and earth shattering. daichi almost screams, as the pleasure is borderline painful. the sight of you was too much to handle, and undoubtedly made him double over. "ah shit-!"
daichi doesn't know how you paused time once again, just to make sure he doesn't cum inside you. he doesn't know how quickly you dropped to your knees, mouth wide open, and how he releases down your throat. how you milk every single drop out of him before freezing the world at will.
all daichi knows is confusion and the fuzziness his head pounds with. when suddenly, you're not on top of him anymore. his form is turned, facing the wall again. shaky legs, and not laid against the floor.
"daichi? are you okay?" you call out.
he coughs, turning toward you. "y-yeah…" his confusion etching even more as you're wearing his spare shirt, still in your skirt, and a tilted head facing him. "... i think."
you laugh, hitting his shoulder playfully. "goodness, does the lightning scare you so bad? you look like someone just sucked the soul outta ya!"
he thinks you don't know a thing. the sight of your walls sucking him in fresh in his mind makes heat, and guilt simultaneously pool at his gut. he thinks you're the most innocent soul on earth when you lean in toward him, pressing your palm on his forehead, and giving him an eyeful that makes his breath hitch, before taking a step back.
"don't get sick on me now, captain. you take care of everyone else, so who's going to take care of you?" you tell him off with a wink, only for him to hum an incoherent response, and his mind still buzzing.
was that all his imagination?
"oh look! it's lightening up!" you snap him out of his train of thought when you smile, grabbing his hand, pulling him forward. "let's make a run for it!"
"w-wait!" he stops your other hand from turning the door knob.
you turn toward him, eyebrows raised. "huh?"
it definitely catches you off guard as daichi leans in to look into your eyes. you feel your heart pound in your ears when you stare back. the caramel shade of his skin and the dark pupils trying to analyze you- trying to figure you out. "d-daichi?" you stutter out.
"a-ah… sorry." he pulls back before muttering something under his breath. something about it feeling real.
and it almost hurts as you facade innocence, letting go of his hand and racing toward karasuno's second gym. bags over your heads as you pound against the door, and laugh heartily as kageyama messes up a serve in your presence. it almost hurts as your cunt weeps arousal, and ruins your new, navy blue set of panties.
because it's ironic at how much you told tooru how much you loved the rain. how fun it was as a child to jump into puddles, and dance. how the pattering felt like the knock on a door and a call out to play. how easily rain covered for all the moans that daichi never got to hear when you came around him, walls creaming him in your slick. how the wind howls loudly so that no one could hear you babble your gratitude, and at how thankful you were. and how rain was the best excuse for your tears. the most viable excuse of why your face was an utter mess the other day.
and how it seemed to rain the same day tooru broke your heart in two.

Be Quiet (Harry Potter x Reader) SMUT
Tumblr media
Request: Can you write a story where the reader (Slytherin) and Harry fall in love with each other and have their first time (smut pls!) and at the same time Sirius and the reader find out that’s she’s his daughter? Xo
Pairing: Harry Potter x FemReader
Warnings: Smut, very slight mentions of death, unprotected sex
Word Count: 2389
A/N: I forgot to specify the reader’s house! 😭 Also I didn’t do a whole lot of set up, let’s pretend their slightly older in Order of The Phoenix and this is set in when they’re staying in Sirius’ place? -S
———————————————————————
(Y/N) rapped quietly on the door, she supposed knocking on the door at all kind of defeated the purpose of trying to be quiet, so she abandoned her efforts and attempted to open the wooden door with minimal squeaking. “Harry? Are you up?”
Harry was quick to appear and open the door for her to come into the room. Honestly, he felt kind of bad, because it had been his intention to come to her. She had just beat him to it, but he supposed that wasn’t too surprising; she had always seemed to be more sure of herself than Harry had. “Yeah, come in. I was just about to go look for you.”
She didn’t need to be told twice. Harry was probably her best friend...or maybe Hermione, but that would only because she couldn’t share EVERYTHING with Harry (despite her desire to do so). She plopped on the bed and let out a sigh, a dramatic, but justified one. “This is a lot, right?”
“It’s a bit much sure… not entirely bad though?” Harry knew immediately what she’d been referring to. A bombshell for sure. One thing they had been able to bond over was the fact that she grew up without her parents, Harry was thankful that she had a much more loving and tolerant aunt and uncle though. She never knew who her father was, and her mother had died around the age of 3. She knew who her father was now though… the notorious Sirius Black.
(Y/N) knew that she had been kept in the dark for her own good. Most people still thought the man was a murderer and she knew her aunt and uncle just didn’t want her to grow up knowing that they shared the DNA. “I mean I guess not… Sirius is cool and all.” It definitely sucked that his name hadn’t been cleared to anyone not in the Order, but while not seemingly knowing a lot about what he was doing he seemed eager to try as much as he would be able to.
“I feel like I’ve been lied to my entire life and I get why they did it, but I wish I would’ve known.” (Y/N) sat up and laid her head on Harry’s shoulder. He’d sat down beside her after she’d laid back. “I suppose nothing really changes that much though.”
He could definitely relate to some extent. Harry constantly felt like he was playing catch-up, and he was always a step behind everyone in knowing about himself and his life. “Right.”
A silence fell over the pair. Harry wasn’t sure what (Y/N) was feeling, but he felt content. She always had a way of making him feel that way. Hermione kept pushing him to say something, and as much as he wanted to he always found a reason not to do so. Now for example would be incredibly inappropriate, she was already so overwhelmed it just wouldn’t be fair to add the weight of his feelings for her onto her shoulders.
“Can I ask you something completely off topic?”
“Anything.”
“Do you like me?” (Y/N) felt bad for blurting out the question. Now probably wasn’t the time and that probably wasn’t the best way to go about it, but at that moment it seemed like the most appropriate option.
Poor Harry was happy he didn’t have a mouth full or butter beer or pumpkin juice because there was no doubt that he would’ve probably spit it all over the bedding and the floor. He used to say that they were close enough that she could never surprise him, but that clearly was a lie. He often wondered if she was a Legilimen, because she seemed to have some sort of innate ability to read his mind. She also knew when he was lying to playing dumb probably wouldn’t be too much help in this situation, “Uh...yeah. Hermione says it's bloody obvious.”
(Y/N) chuckled and smiled, even though he wouldn’t be able to see it, “She says the same to me if it makes you feel any better.”
“You fancy me?” Harry always had a small suspicion, he didn’t think that Hermione would be constantly trying to get him to confess his feelings if she thought it would end badly, but still he had his doubts.
“You might be the chosen one, but you can be pretty thick sometimes…” She sighed and lifted her head from his shoulder. When he turned to see what was wrong she just planted a soft kiss on his lips. He immediately melted into it, he didn’t need to be told twice to kiss her back. He’d been thinking about doing it so long that it just seemed second nature.
Their foreheads stayed pressed together even when the urge to break away to breathe came. Her eyes were still closed, but Harry kept his open (he just needed to make sure this wasn’t a dream). “Would it be too soon to say that I’m in love with you?”
“I don’t think I’d use the word soon at all.” (Y/N) teased with a soft laugh.
Harry pulled the girl back in for another kiss, the second was even better than the first (which he hadn’t previously thought to be possible). She tasted like mint toothpaste, which probably now his favorite flavor as his tongue swept across hers. (Y/N) wrapped her arms around him, an act partially meant to pull him closer and partially meant to keep a grip on him so that when she laid down he’d come tumbling down with her.
Her back hit the mattress with a soft thud, and she found herself mildly impressed with Harry’s ability to gracefully follow her. His body resting between her legs and his hands on either side of her head. She wrapped her legs around his waist and pulled herself further into him, earning a small groan. Her lips curled into a smile against his skin, and she set herself on a mission to elicit a similar reaction, but not before whispering to him, “You have to be quiet, apparently my dad is in the other room.”
Harry rolled his eyes at her, but soon found himself forgetting what she’d said. Instead he was more focused on the feathery light kisses being trailed down from his cheek to his neck. He took a deep breath when she began to kiss his neck, her ministrations on the skin a new and very enjoyable experience. He didn’t even notice her hands sneaking under his shirt. He shivered slightly from her cold hands, but relaxed into her touch when she ran her palms across his chest and torso. “Whatever you’re doing for Quidditch is clearly working.” She hummed into his ear.
Harry chuckled and leaned up, pulling his shirt over his head and then helping her out of hers. He was kind of shocked by how not nervous he was. There was just something about her, he doubted there was anything in the world she could do to make him think less of her and he just had a hunch she felt the same (or least that’s the way she made him feel). There was little light in the bedroom, but he could still see her (barely, but he could). He hadn’t even thought about the fact they were in her pajamas and she probably wouldn’t be wearing a bra… she definitely wasn’t and he felt his voice catch in the back of his throat.
“This is the part where you tell me how good I look.” (Y/N) whispered playfully to him. She worried that perhaps she might’ve been ruining the moment with so much talking, but she also knew that Harry was aware she liked to make jokes to ease her own nerves. He was often the only one not taken aback by the sometimes poorly time sentiments.
“You’re bloody gorgeous.” His voice held no trace of jest and he didn’t even give her a chance to respond before he went back in for another kiss. The kiss was chaste, because honestly he wanted to give her a taste of her own medicine. When his lips met the skin of her neck (Y/N) found herself having to bite the inside of her cheek to keep her voice down. However, whenever he dipped lower and found her chest the action was futile. A sharp gasp tore through her throat at the new sensation and when to shower her breasts in kisses she no longer found holding back a moan a possible option.
The sound was like music to Harry’s ears and he began to crave hearing more like it was a song stuck in his head. He switched between her right and left nipple, carefully trying to pay the same amount of attention to each one, and he only found himself willing to stop whenever she rolled her hips upward and brushed herself against the erection he was now painfully aware of. To be honest, he wasn’t quite sure what was exactly expected of him. He definitely wasn’t entirely stupid on the subject, he knew WHAT happened, but maybe he was skipping an important step in the foreplay that he wasn’t aware of. He didn’t have much time to think too much about it, because (Y/N) wiggled out from under him. He would’ve been worried that he’d done something wrong, but when she began to shed the rest of his clothes those thoughts abandoned his mind. Really the only thoughts left in his head was her… and how she looked. Completely bare. In front of him. Merlin, he wasn’t sure there was ever a sight more beautiful and he doubted he’d ever be able to think of anything else.
“Care to join me?” (Y/N) hoped she wasn’t being too forward. This really was probably too soon… they’d just had their first kiss not even an hour ago and now she was lying on his bed completely naked. She’d been imagining this for far more than a few hours though. It was definitely not a fleeting thought… well it wasn’t to her. She hoped Harry felt the same.
“Oh! Yeah!” It occurred to him how lame it must’ve been that he was just sitting there looking at her and he quickly shed his left over layers too. Now they were both naked, and still just staring.
“This is okay with you right?” She drew closer to him again, careful not to touch him until she was sure that he also wanted this.
“Yes.” He thought she was bloody insane to even ask him that, but he wouldn’t say that to her (at least not right then).
That was all she wanted to hear, (Y/N) kissed him again, but this time it was different. It was full of anticipation and desire and their lips just moved together instinctively, because they were both too focused on the feeling of their bodies being pressed together.
This time (Y/N) didn’t have to pull Harry on top of her, this time he carefully laid her down and hovered over her. The tip of his cock brushed against her core and he was worried that he’d lose it right then and there. She whimpered and raised her hips to meet him. Their eyes locked and there wasn’t a need for words to ask permission or any questions. They both knew this was exactly what they wanted. Harry reached between them and drug the tip of his cock across her folds, his eyes closed when he slowly began to press himself into her.
Immediate pleasure washed over Harry and to put it bluntly it was far better than any late night with his hand. (Y/N) felt it too, not quite as intensely as she was still adjusting to the foreign feeling of being so completely stretched by him. The thought alone made her shift her hips. He was trying not to give into the desire to just completely ruin her, the thought had crossed his mind more than once if he was being honest and now that he was presented with the actual opportunity he was doing his best to be a gentleman.
“Harry,” He had always enjoyed hearing her say his name, and this was no exception. It was at least 10 times better when it came out more of a moan than an actual word, “Move already.”
He grunted a bit at the order, but obliged nonetheless. He pulled out slowly and then resheathed himself in her again. Each time a little faster and every little whimper or moan that came from her lips egged him on ever more. It didn’t take long for the somewhat uncomfortable feeling to completely disappear and soon her weak noises became a little louder. Harry would’ve been happy to have her screaming his name, the noise echoing through the hallways, but she was right. Her father was in the other room, as well as other people who would not approve of their display of affection.
“We have.. To be.. Quiet… remember?” His sentence was broken up by the thrusting of his hips, unable to find enough concern to completely stop his movements. Knowing he was right (Y/N) roughly kissed him. She wasn’t entirely sure that it would keep the noises at bay, but it was the only thing that she could say would have the potential to work at the moment. She was getting close, she could feel something like a spring in her body being twisted tighter and tighter with every thrust and then POP. A wave of relief and pleasure erupted through her body and a moan that sounded more like a strangled sob was let out. As cliche as it sounded, it completely undid Harry and he held her close, his face buried into her shoulder as he found the same pleasure she did and his hips stilled.
“Harry?”
“Yeah?”
“That was my first time.”
“Mine too.” He answered honestly.
“We’re pretty good at this.” She let out a quiet laugh as Harry pulled himself out of her and collapsed on the bed. She laid down beside him, her head resting on his chest.
“Honestly… I think we could go for a bit more practice.”

Y/N L/N AND THE HALFBLOODS
Percy Jackson X Reader -Y/N L/N met Percy Jackson and everything was now ruined.
CHAPTER 8: I Really Hate Water
Tumblr media
The next few days I settled into a routine that felt almost normal, if you don't count the fact that I was getting lessons from satyrs, nymphs, and a centaur. Each morning I took Ancient Greek from Annabeth and sometimes Luke, and we talked about the gods and goddesses in the present tense, which was kind of weird. I discovered Annabeth was right about my dyslexia: Ancient Greek wasn't that hard for me to read. At least, no harder than English. After a couple of mornings, I could stumble through a few lines of Homer without too much headache. The rest of the day, I'd rotate through outdoor activities, looking for something I was good at. I had struck around with Percy the whole time unless it was dinner time or night where I spent with Luke. Chiron tried to teach Percy and I archery, and we found out pretty quick he wasn't any good with a bow and arrow. He didn't complain, even when he had to desnag a stray arrow out of his tail. It was hilarious. While I on the other hand, could compete against Merida and Hawkeye with wining in favor of me. Foot racing? He sucked. The wood-nymph instructors and I left him in the dust. I told him not to worry about it. They'd had centuries of practice running away from lovesick gods. But I guess, it was a little humiliating to be slower than a tree. And wrestling? Forget it. Every time he got on the mat, Clarisse would pulverize him. Luckily I took some martial arts class back then and stood some chance against her. "There's more where that came from, punk," she'd mumble. The only thing he really excelled at was canoeing, and that wasn't the kind of heroic skill people expected to see from the kid who had beaten the Minotaur I guess. But hey, He's better at canoeing than me. I don't even know how I drowned all the time. Percy had to save me a couple of times. I knew the senior campers and counselors were watching us, trying to decide who our Olympian parent was, but they weren't having an easy time of it. I was as strong as the Ares kids, or as good at archery as the Apollo kids. I have Hephaestus's skill with metalwork, luckily I didn't have Dionysus's way with vine plants. Luke told me Percy might be a child of Hermes, a kind of jack-of-all-trades, master of none. But I got the feeling he was just trying to make him feel better. He really didn't know what to make of me either. Despite all that, I liked camp. I got used to the morning fog over the beach, the smell of hot strawberry fields in the afternoon, even the weird noises of monsters in the woods at night. I would eat dinner with cabin eleven, scrape part of my meal into the fire, and try to feel some connection to my real parent. Nothing came. I tried not to think too much about my mom and dad, but I kept wondering: if gods and monsters were real, if all this magical stuff was possible, surely there was some way to save them, to bring them back.... Even D/N would do...
I started to understand Luke's bitterness and how he seemed to resent his father, Hermes. So okay, maybe gods had important things to do. But couldn't they call once in a while, or thunder, or something? Dionysus could make Diet Coke appear out of thin air. Why couldn't my parent, whoever they were, make a phone appear? Thursday afternoon, three days after we'd arrived at Camp Half-Blood, I had my first sword-fighting lesson. Everybody from cabin eleven gathered in the big circular arena, where Luke would be our instructor. We started with basic stabbing and slashing, using some straw-stuffed dummies in Greek armor. I did okay. At least, I understood what I was supposed to do and my reflexes were good. The problem was, I couldn't find a blade that felt right in my hands. Either they were too heavy, or too light, or too long. Luke tried his best to fix me up, but he agreed that none of the practice blades seemed to work for me. We moved on to dueling in pairs. Luke announced he would be Percy's partner, since this was his first time. And then my turn after his, so I had to train with another kid from the cabin. "Good luck," one of the campers told us. "Luke's the best swordsman in the last three hundred years." "Maybe he'll go easy on me," Percy said. The camper snorted. By the time he called a break, I was soaked in sweat. Everybody swarmed the drinks cooler. Luke poured ice water on his head, which looked like such a good idea. I turned to talk to Percy and he had done the same. "Okay, everybody circle up!" Luke ordered. "If Percy doesn't mind, I want to give you a little demo." I wanted to try going against Luke as well. I wasn't confident with my skills. The Hermes guys gathered around. They were suppressing smiles. I figured they'd been in his shoes before and couldn't wait to see how Luke used Percy for a punching bag. He told everybody he was going to demonstrate a disarming technique: how to twist the enemy's blade with the flat of your own sword so that he had no choice but to drop his weapon. "This is difficult," he stressed. "I've had it used against me. No laughing at Percy, now. Most swordsmen have to work years to master this technique." He demonstrated the move on me in slow motion. Sure enough, the sword clattered out of his hand. "Now in real time," he said, after Percy had retrieved his weapon. "We keep sparring until one of us pulls it off. Ready, Percy?" He nodded, and Luke came after him. After a while of clashing, Percy tried the disarming maneuver. His blade hit the base of Luke's and he twisted. Clang. Luke's sword rattled against the stones. The tip of Percy's blade was an inch from his undefended chest. The other campers were silent. He lowered his sword. "Um, sorry." For a moment, Luke was too stunned to speak. I had a huge grin on my face. I had no idea why, but I was proud. I was so close on giving him an encore and all that. "Sorry?" Luke's scarred face broke into a grin. "By the gods, Percy, why are you sorry? Show me that again!" I didn't want to. The short burst of manic energy had completely abandoned me. But Luke insisted. This time, there was no contest. The moment our swords connected, Luke hit my hilt and sent my weapon skidding across the floor. After a long pause, somebody in the audience said, "Beginner's luck?" Luke wiped the sweat off his brow. He appraised at me with an entirely new interest. "Maybe," he said. "But I wonder what Percy could do with a balanced sword... ." My time with Luke wasn't as amazing as Percy's was but I wasn't that bad. Friday afternoon, I was sitting with Grover and Percy at the lake, resting from a near-death experience on the climbing wall. Grover had scampered to the top like a mountain goat, but the lava had almost gotten me. Percy and I's shirts had smoking holes in it. The hairs had been singed off our forearms. We sat on the pier, watching the naiads do underwater basket-weaving, I was resting my back on Percy's since I felt like any moment they'd drown me. Percy then ask Grover how his conversation had gone with Mr. D. His face turned a sickly shade of yellow. "Fine," he said. "Just great." "So your career's still on track?" He glanced at me nervously. "Chiron t-told you I want a searcher's license?" "Well... no." I had no idea what a searcher's license was, but it didn't seem like the right time to ask. "He just said you had big plans, you know... and that you needed credit for completing a keeper's assignment. So did you get it?" Percy said. Grover looked down at the naiads. "Mr. D suspended judgment. He said I hadn't failed or succeeded with you yet, so our fates were still tied together. If you got a quest and I went along to protect you, and we both came back alive, then maybe he'd consider the job complete." "Well, that's not so bad, right?" "Blaa-ha-ha! He might as well have transferred me to stable-cleaning duty. The chances of you getting a quest... and even if you did, why would you want me along?" "Of course I'd want you along!" Grover stared glumly into the water. "Basket-weaving... Must be nice to have a useful skill." I tried to reassure him that he had lots of talents, but that just made him look more miserable. Percy and him talked about canoeing and swordplay for a while, then debated the pros and cons of the different gods. Finally, I asked him about the four empty cabins. "Number eight, the silver one, belongs to Artemis," he said. "She vowed to be a maiden forever. So of course, no kids. The cabin is, you know, honorary. If she didn't have one, she'd be mad." "Yeah, okay. But the other three, the ones at the end. Are those the Big Three?" Grover tensed. We were getting close to a touchy subject. "No. One of them, number two, is Hera's," he said. "That's another honorary thing. She's the goddess of marriage, so of course she wouldn't go around having affairs with mortals. That's her husband's job. When we say the Big Three, we mean the three powerful brothers, the sons of Kronos." "Zeus, Poseidon, Hades." "Right. You know. After the great battle with the Titans, they took over the world from their dad and drew lots to decide who got what." "Zeus got the sky," I remembered. "Poseidon the sea, Hades the Underworld." "Uh-huh." "But Hades doesn't have a cabin here." "No. He doesn't have a throne on Olympus, either. He sort of does his own thing down in the Underworld. If he did have a cabin here..." Grover shuddered. "Well, it wouldn't be pleasant. Let's leave it at that." "Why though? What would children of Hades do then? How would they fend themselves?" "I-I don't know... Its not my idea not adding Hades!" He shrieked as if he was at fault and felt guilty. "But Zeus and Poseidon—they both had, like, a bazillion kids in the myths. Why are their cabins empty?" Percy changed the subject. Grover shifted his hooves uncomfortably. "About sixty years ago, after World War II, the Big Three agreed they wouldn't sire any more heroes. Their children were just too powerful. They were affecting the course of human events too much, causing too much carnage. World War II, you know, that was basically a fight between the sons of Zeus and Poseidon on one side, and the sons of Hades on the other. The winning side, Zeus and Poseidon, made Hades swear an oath with them: no more affairs with mortal women. They all swore on the River Styx." Thunder boomed.. . . . . .. I said, "That's the most serious oath you can make." Grover nodded. "And the brothers kept their word—no kids?" Grover's face darkened. "Seventeen years ago, Zeus fell off the wagon. There was this TV starlet with a big fluffy eighties hairdo—he just couldn't help himself. When their child was born, a little girl named Thalia... well, the River Styx is serious about promises. Zeus himself got off easy because he's immortal, but he brought a terrible fate on his daughter." "But that isn't fair.' It wasn't the little girl's fault." Grover hesitated. "Percy, children of the Big Three have powers greater than other half-bloods. They have a strong aura, a scent that attracts monsters. When Hades found out about the girl, he wasn't too happy about Zeus breaking his oath. Hades let the worst monsters out of Tartarus to torment Thalia. A satyr was assigned to be her keeper when she was twelve, but there was nothing he could do. He tried to escort her here with a couple of other half-bloods she'd befriended. They almost made it. They got all the way to the top of that hill." He pointed across the valley, to the pine tree where we'd fought the minotaur. "All three Kindly Ones were after them, along with a horde of hellhounds. They were about to be overrun when Thalia told her satyr to take the other two half-bloods to safety while she held off the monsters. She was wounded and tired, and she didn't want to live like a hunted animal. The satyr didn't want to leave her, but he couldn't change her mind, and he had to protect the others. So Thalia made her final stand alone, at the top of that hill. As she died, Zeus took pity on her. He turned her into that pine tree. Her spirit still helps protect the borders of the valley. That's why the hill is called Half-Blood Hill." I stared at the pine in the distance. The story made me feel hollow, and guilty too. A girl my age had sacrificed herself to save her friends. She had faced a whole army of monsters. "Grover," Percy said, "have heroes really gone on quests to the Underworld?" "Sometimes," he said. "Orpheus. Hercules. Houdini." "And have they ever returned somebody from the dead?" "No. Never. Orpheus came close... . Percy, you're not seriously thinking—" "No," Percy said. "I was just wondering. So... a satyr is always assigned to guard a demigod?" I looked over to him warily. "Not always. We go undercover to a lot of schools. We try to sniff out the half-bloods who have the makings of great heroes. If we find one with a very strong aura, like a child of the Big Three, we alert Chiron. He tries to keep an eye on them, since they could cause really huge problems." "And you found me. Chiron said you thought I might be something special." Grover looked as if I'd just led him into a trap. "I didn't... Oh, listen, don't think like that. If you were—you know—you'd never ever be allowed a quest, and I'd never get my license. You're probably a child of Hermes. Or maybe even one of the minor gods, like Nemesis, the god of revenge. Don't worry, okay?" I got the idea he was reassuring himself more than us. "What about me?" They looked at me. "Chiron said you didn't know I was a half-blood..." "We didn't. When you didn't forget who... Mrs Dodds was. We thought you just saw through the mist. Then when I saw you with Percy that night... and your parents aware of me and the camp. I assumed you were... a half-blood." "How about now? What do I smell like?" He looked at me gingerly then at Percy, "Nothing. You smell too human. Even for a very minor god. That's why there are plenty of satyrs then are confused as to why there's a human here. That night after dinner, there was a lot more excitement than usual. At last, it was time for capture the flag. When the plates were cleared away, the horn sounded and we all stood at our tables. Campers yelled and cheered as Annabeth and two of her siblings ran into the pavilion carrying a silk banner. It was about ten feet long, glistening gray, with a painting of a barn owl above an olive tree. From the opposite side of the pavilion, Clarisse and her buddies ran in with another banner, of identical size, but gaudy red, painted with a bloody spear and a boar's head. I turned to Luke and yelled over the noise, "Those are the flags?" "Yeah." "Ares and Athena always lead the teams?" "Not always," he said. "But often." "So, if another cabin captures one, what do you do— repaint the flag?" He grinned. "You'll see. First we have to get one." "Whose side are we on?" He gave me a sly look, as if he knew something I didn't. "We've made a temporary alliance with Athena. Tonight, we get the flag from Ares. And Percy's going to help." The teams were announced. Athena had made an alliance with Apollo and Hermes, the two biggest cabins. Apparently, privileges had been traded—shower times, chore schedules, the best slots for activities—in order to win support. Ares had allied themselves with everybody else: Dionysus, Demeter, Aphrodite, and Hephaestus. From what I'd seen, Dionysus's kids were actually good athletes, but there were only two of them. Demeter's kids had the edge with nature skills and outdoor stuff but they weren't very aggressive. Aphrodite's sons and daughters I wasn't too worried about. They mostly sat out every activity and checked their reflections in the lake and did their hair and gossiped. Hephaestus's kids weren't pretty, and there were only four of them, but they were big and burly from working in the metal shop all day. They might be a problem. That, of course, left Ares's cabin: a dozen of the biggest, ugliest, meanest kids on Long Island, or anywhere else on the planet. Chiron hammered his hoof on the marble. "Heroes!" he announced. "You know the rules. The creek is the boundary line. The entire forest is fair game. All magic items are allowed. The banner must be prominently displayed, and have no more than two guards. Prisoners may be disarmed, but may not be bound or gagged. No killing or maiming is allowed. I will serve as referee and battlefield medic. Arm yourselves!" He spread his hands, and the tables were suddenly covered with equipment: helmets, bronze swords, spears, oxide shields coated in metal. "Whoa," I said. "We're really supposed to use these?" Luke looked at me and laughed. "Unless you want to get skewered by your friends in cabin five. Here—Chiron thought these would fit. Do you want to be border patrol with Percy or come with me?" I smiled at him, "Tempting offer but I think I'll stay with Percy." "Your lost." He smirked then ruffled my hair. I went over to Percy who was holding a shield was the size of an NBA backboard, with a big caduceus in the middle. Our helmet, like all the helmets on Athena's side, had a blue horsehair plume on top. Ares and their allies had red plumes. "Looking at real good." I laughed. He frowned at me. "Like you look that different." "I am sporting this helmet just fine excuse you." I said picking up a dagger from the table. Annabeth yelled, "Blue team, forward!" We cheered and shook our swords and followed her down the path to the south woods. The red team yelled taunts at us as they headed off toward the north. Percy and I managed to catch up with Annabeth without him tripping over my equipment. "Hey." She kept marching. "So what's the plan?" Percy asked. "Got any magic items you can loan me?" Her hand drifted toward her pocket, as if she were afraid I'd stolen something. "Just watch Clarisse's spear," she said. "You don't want that thing touching you. Otherwise, don't worry. We'll take the banner from Ares. Has Luke given you your job?" "Border patrol, whatever that means." "It's easy. Stand by the creek, keep the reds away. Leave the rest to me. Athena always has a plan." She pushed ahead, leaving me in the dust. "Okay," he mumbled. "Glad you wanted me on your team." "I don't want to be near the creek." I said anxiously. "Maybe I should just go with Luke..." Percy then took my hand. "Since when have I ever let you drown? Don't worry. I'll be there for you." He smiled. With a pout and a worried look I stuck out my pinky said, "Promise me." "I swear I will never let you drown. I will save you with all I can." He swore connecting our pinkies. "Everyone knows pinky promises are better than Styx." We laughed and made our way to our station not letting go of each other's hands. It was a warm, sticky night. The woods were dark, with fireflies popping in and out of view. Annabeth stationed us next to a little creek that gurgled over some rocks, then she and the rest of the team scattered into the trees. The bronze sword, like all the swords I'd tried so far, seemed balanced wrong. The leather grip pulled on my hand like a bowling ball. There was no way anybody would actually attack me, would they? I mean, Olympus had to have liability issues, right? Far away, the horn blew. I heard whoops and yells in the woods, the clanking of metal, kids fighting. A blue-plumed ally from Apollo raced past me like a deer, leaped through the creek, and disappeared into enemy territory. I lied down on the ground. "This is so boring." "Stand up, who knows when an enemy will show up." He scolded pulling me up. "I don't know... I think I'd rather shrivel and die." I shrugged. "Plus I know I got a knight in shining helmet to save me." "I mean yeah of course you do." "Luke's like few meters away after all." I smirked. He turned to me with a frown and a 'not funny' face. Which made me laugh. Then I heard a sound that sent a chill up my spine, a low canine growl, somewhere close by. I stood up and Percy pulled me behind him as he raised his shield instinctively; I had the feeling something was stalking me. Then the growling stopped. I felt the presence retreating. On the other side of the creek, the underbrush exploded. Five Ares warriors came yelling and screaming out of the dark. "Cream the punk!" Clarisse screamed. Her ugly pig eyes glared through the slits of her helmet. She brandished a five-foot-long spear, its barbed metal tip flickering with red light. Her siblings had only the standard-issue bronze swords—not that that made me feel any better. They charged across the stream. There was no help in sight. I could run and leave Percy. Or I could defend myself against half the Ares cabin with no more than 9 inch dagger and Percy Jackson. I managed to sidestep the first kid's swing, but these guys were not as stupid the Minotaur. They surrounded me and Percy, while Clarisse thrust at us with her spear. Percy's shield deflected the point. My hair stood on end. "Electricity. Her stupid spear was electric." Percy groaned and I pulled him back. Another Ares guy slammed me in the chest with the butt of his sword and I hit the dirt. They could've kicked me into jelly, but they were too busy laughing. "Y/N!!" Percy yelled but he had a sword pointed at his throat. "Give her a haircut," Clarisse said. "Grab her hair." I managed to get to my feet. I raised my dagger, but Clarisse slammed it aside with her spear as sparks flew. Now my arm numb. "Oh, wow," Clarisse said. "I'm scared of this guy. Really scared." "The flag is that way, let her go!" Percy told her. "Yeah," one of her siblings said. "But see, we don't care about the flag. We care about a guys who made our cabin look stupid." "You do that without my help," I told them. It probably wasn't the smartest thing to say. Someone took a hold of Percy so the sword was no longer pointed at him. Two of them came at me. I backed up toward the creek, tried to raise arm, but Clarisse was too fast. Her spear stuck me straight in the ribs. If I hadn't been wearing an armored breastplate, I would've been shish-ke-babbed. As it was, the electric point just about shocked my teeth out of my mouth. One of her cabinmates slashed his sword across my arm, leaving a good-size cut. Seeing my own blood made me dizzy—warm and cold at the same time. "No maiming," I managed to say. "Oops," the guy said. "Guess I lost my dessert privilege." "Y/N!! I will kill you all!!" He was thrashing around. "Let her go! She can't swim!!" "It's fun seeing your girlfriend suffer ain't it?" Clarisse laughed. The guy finally pushed me into the creek and I landed with a splash. They all laughed. I figured as soon as they were through being amused, I would die. I was sinking. I couldn't breathe. The water was pulling me for what felt like 10 meters deep. Blood were coming out at every wound I had. I was loosing consciousness. Help me. Please... -With Percy- Clarisse and her cabinmates came into the creek to get you, but you weren't there. "Hey, she's missing?" One of the cabinmate said. "What? It's like 3 meters deep. She's just there." Clarisse scoffed. "I's telling you she's can't swim! Water pulls her down! I will kill you if she doesn't survive!" Percy managed to get power from somewhere and got out of the hold. He knew what to do. I swung the flat of my sword against the first guy's head and knocked his helmet clean off. I hit him so hard I could see his eyes vibrating as he crumpled into the water. Then he jumped down. Hoping to see you somewhere. Muttering your name over and over in hopes to catch you. Save us He heard from his right. When he turned he finally saw you at the bottom. He swam with all could and got a hold of you. To haul you up. Finally surfacing, Percy panted and laid you of the ground. Pumping your chest. When the water finally came out of your mouth. Percy turned to glare at the people. Ugly Number Two and Ugly Number Three came at me. He slammed one in the face with his shield and used his sword to shear off the other guy's horsehair plume. Both of them backed up quick. Ugly Number Four didn't look really anxious to attack, but Clarisse kept coming, the point of her spear crackling with energy. As soon as she thrust, he caught the shaft between the edge of my shield and my sword, and I snapped it like a twig. "Ah!" she screamed. "You idiot! You corpse-breath worm!" She probably would've said worse, but Percy smacked her between the eyes with his sword-butt and sent her stumbling backward out of the creek. -Back to you- Coughing myself awake. Water came out of my mouth. "Percy..." I called. He turned so fast that I was surprised his neck didn't snap. "Y/N!" He ran to me and pulled me in a hug. I couldn't move, I felt tired and weak. "I want to sleep." I could feel my wounds stinging. Cold air hitting it. I felt sore despite barely moving. Then I heard yelling, elated screams, we both turned and I saw Luke racing toward the boundary line with the red team's banner lifted high. He was flanked by a couple of Hermes guys covering his retreat, and a few Apollos behind them, fighting off the Hephaestus kids. The Ares folks got up, and Clarisse muttered a dazed curse. "A trick!" she shouted. "It was a trick." They staggered after Luke, but it was too late. Everybody converged on the creek as Luke ran across into friendly territory. Our side exploded into cheers. The red banner shimmered and turned to silver. The boar and spear were replaced with a huge caduceus, the symbol of cabin eleven. Everybody on the blue team picked up Luke and started carrying him around on their shoulders. Chiron cantered out from the woods and blew the horn. The game was over. We'd won. Percy carried me still with an angry expression and tense body. I wanted to reassure him but I knew it wouldn't work. Luke looked over and saw us. I could see his sudden shift of emotion. He wanted to approach but he was surrounded by every cabin. We then heard Annabeth's voice, right next to us in the creek, said, "Not bad, hero." I wanted to turn to see her but I couldn't. I could barely keep my eyes open. "Where the heck did you learn to fight like that?" she asked. The air shimmered, and she materialized, holding a Yankees baseball cap as if she'd just taken it off her head. She was now in front of us. I felt Percy tense up once more. "You set us up, You put us here because you knew Clarisse would come after me, while you sent Luke around the flank. You had it all figured out." Annabeth shrugged. "I told you. Athena always, always has a plan." "Because of you, Y/N is like this." The venom in his voice were obvious. "I came as fast as I could. I was about to jump in, but..." She shrugged. "You didn't need help." "I didn't. But Y/N did! And what did you do?! She could've died!" Percy was shaking. I could feel it. "Calm..." I managed to whimper. "What's that?" Annabeth pointed at Percy's neck. "A sword cut, obviously." "No. It was a sword cut. Look at it." The blood was gone. Where the huge cut had been, there was a long white scratch, and even that was fading. As I watched, it turned into a small scar, and disappeared. "I—I don't get it," Percy said. Annabeth was thinking hard. I could almost see the gears turning. She looked down at our feet, then at Clarisse's broken spear, and said, "Step out of the water, Percy." "What—" "Just do it." He came out of the creek and immediately I could feel myself better. Percy almost fell over, but I managed to hold him. "I got you." I panted. "Oh, Styx," she cursed. "This is not good. I didn't want... I assumed it would be Zeus... ." Before I could ask what she meant, I heard that canine growl again, but much closer than before. A howl ripped through the forest. The campers' cheering died instantly. Chiron shouted something in Ancient Greek, which I would realize, only later, I had understood perfectly: "Stand ready! My bow!" Annabeth drew her sword. I drew my dagger and pushed Percy behind me. There on the rocks just above us was a black hound the size of a rhino, with lava-red eyes and fangs like daggers. It was looking straight at me. Nobody moved except Annabeth, who yelled, "Percy, Y/N, run!" She tried to step in front of me, but the hound was too fast. It leaped over her—an enormous shadow with teeth—and just as it hit me, I was pushed aside as Percy stumbled backward and its razor-sharp claws ripping through his armor, there was a cascade of thwacking sounds, like forty pieces of paper being ripped one after the other. "Stop that!!" I screamed and somehow managed to grab her. She turned to me sharply and stared me down. As if she was waiting for the perfect opportunity to jump me. It approached me and settled down at my feet, sitting down as if she was an obedient dog. She watched as I catch my breath. From the hounds neck sprouted a cluster of arrows. The monster fell dead at my feet. By some miracle, I was still alive, and wasn't even hurt. I instantly turned to look uat Percy. His chest wet, and I knew it was badly cut. Another second, and the monster would've turned him into a hundred pounds of delicatessen meat. Chiron trotted up next to us, a bow in his hand, his face grim. "Di immortales!" Annabeth said. "That's a hellhound from the Fields of Punishment. They don't... they're not supposed to... How did..." "Someone summoned it," Chiron said. "Someone inside the camp." Luke came over, the banner in his hand forgotten, his moment of glory gone. Clarisse yelled, "It's all Y/N's fault! Y/N summoned it!" "Be quiet, child," Chiron told her. We watched the body of the hellhound melt into shadow, soaking into the ground until it disappeared. "You're wounded," Annabeth told Percy. "Quick, Percy, get in the water." "I'm okay." "No, you're not, Y/N get him to the water," she said. "Chiron, watch this." "No... She doesn't do well in water..." Percy choked. I carefully swung his arm around my shoulders and without thinking twice, I stepped back into the creek, the whole camp gathering around us. Instantly, I felt weak. I could feel the pulling me down. Some of the campers gasped. Percy who could barely stand few minutes ago got a hold of me. I could feel my consciousness loosing once again. "Look, I—I don't know why," Percy said, trying to apologize. "I'm sorry... But I need to get out of here. Y/N---" But they weren't watching Percy's wounds heal. They were staring at something above our head. "Percy," Annabeth said, pointing. "Um..." By the time I looked up, the sign was already fading, but I could still make out the hologram of green light, spinning and gleaming. A three-tipped spear: a trident. "Your father," Annabeth murmured. "This is really not good." "It is determined," Chiron announced. All around us, campers started kneeling, even the Ares cabin, though they didn't look happy about it. "My father?" Percy asked, completely bewildered. "Poseidon," said Chiron. "Earth shaker, Storm bringer, Father of Horses. Hail, Perseus Jackson, Son of the Sea God." Percy looked down at me. I wasn't sure what but I had the feeling it was somewhere along the lines, 'I am the reason you drown every time you step on water.' "You're claimed..." I managed to squeak. Percy stepped out of the water. "Congratulations." I smiled weakly.

An Art of Balance #6
A/N: If anyone’s interested, the perfume Lizzie is wearing is one of my all-time favourites, Aqua di Gioia by Giorgio Armani. It’s really poorly described here because my olfactory recognition doesn’t go beyond ‘good’ and ‘bad’, but well. It’s divine though. Also, bear with me if sth astrological is wrong, this stuff is complicated! Katriona Cassiopeia (aka KC) belongs to my lovely friend @kc-needs-coffee
  Word Count: ~ 2.100

Chapter 6: A New Perspective
As it turned out, Orion’s decision to name Everett Hufflepuff’s new Beater had been the right one. He still had a way to go, but he immediately fell in line with the rest of the team. What he lacked in precision, he made up in strength.
Orion had taking his individual training on himself. As the team’s captain, he saw it as his personal responsibility to ensure every one of his teammates was able to reach his full potential. Everett was a fast learner, but it would take him a few more sessions to even be remotely able to hold a candle to the Ravenclaw Beaters.
Rath and Cassiopeia had been a well attuned team for many years now, both as skilled a Beater as they came. They would need any protection against them they could get, and the match against Ravenclaw was approaching fast.
Although Orion wasn’t the type of person to let his mind be clouded by worries, he had to admit he wasn’t entirely sure they could get Everett into proper form in time. He had been voicing his concerns to Lizzie the other day, during one of their tutoring sessions. If anyone knew what it took to become a Beater in a short amount of time it was her.
Lately, Orion had found himself looking forward to their meetings in the greenhouse, despite his already tightly packed schedule. It was refreshing to discuss their team matters with someone that didn’t flood him with a multitude of statistics for a change. Lizzie had a different approach to things than him, but they weren’t polar opposites like he and Skye. Exchanging views with her had provided him with a new impulse more than once.
In fact, he had come to enjoy her presence in general, even more so than before. They had always been friends but his knowledge about her had pretty much begun and ended at the Quidditch pitch. Seeing her outside team meetings and practise had allowed him to get to know other sides of her. He’d had no idea Lizzie had been part of the duelling club until last year. Or that Arithmancy was one of her favourite subjects. Or that she used a perfume smelling distinctively of jasmine and mint.
Orion had a harder time bonding with her friend Rowan. He hadn’t had any points of contact with her before he had started tutoring them. Now, several weeks later, he still knew hardly anything about her. She seemed to be exceptionally smart, but also equally as shy. Most of the time she would consult her textbook about the plants he tried to teach them about, while Lizzie paid it no mind, listening to his explanations instead.
Orion couldn’t help his impression that Rowan was struggling with his unconventional style of teaching. He didn’t refer to books more than he had to, rather letting his instinct and experience guide him.
Having trained with him for years, Lizzie knew his way of conveying knowledge was not always straightforward. Rowan, however, had a hard time letting go of protocol. She was clinging to the academic theory as if her life depended on it. Following the rules could help with a lot of problems, but she would never master the delicate nuances advanced Herbology had to offer, if she wasn’t willing to tread paths unknown to her.
“And what exactly is the difference between dried foxglove petals and desiccated foxglove petals?”
McNully snapped him out of his thoughts and back to where they were sitting in the Great Hall. It was study time and most of the students were gathered at their House tables, brooding over their homework.
They had been discussing their latest Potions essay, covering the effects sourcing methods had on the quality of ingredients.
“That is what we are supposed to illustrate, I believe.” Orion dipped his quill into the ink bottle they were sharing and tried to pick up where his wandering thoughts had let him off. His eyes wandered casually across the other Hufflepuff students lining their table.
It lingered where Skye and Lizzie were sitting. Lizzie was rapidly flicking through the pages of her textbook with a puzzled expression. Skye was talking insistently at her, looking equally as bewildered.
Several heads shot up as Lizzie audibly slammed her book shut and clambered off the bench. When Skye made no move to follow her, she jerked the other girl up off her seat and motioned with her head towards where he and McNully were sat.
They quietly walked towards the head of the Hufflepuff table. Seeing them approach, McNully reached for his wheelchair that was blocking the way. He moved it aside to allow the girls to join them. Orion smiled.
“What can we help you with?”
Wordlessly, Lizzie held up her copy of Unfogging the Future and slid into a seat between Murphy and him. She reopened the page she had been examining before and gave a frustrated sigh.
“I cannot tell you how much I hate Divination, I really can’t. You’re good at this, aren’t you?”
Orion supressed a smile. “So I am told. What bothers you in particular?”
“It’s those bloody birthstones,” Skye explained. “No matter how often we go over it, Lizzie and I always come to different results and we can’t find the mistake.”
They handed him their notes and Orion quickly gave them a check before returning them.
“That is because both choices are correct. There is more than one birthstone for each of the zodiac signs. You both chose the right stone for the right sign, but in different parts of the time span covered.”
Skye groaned in frustration, earning her a chiding glance from Professor Flitwick, who was supervising them today. “What do you mean, more than one? Why can’t this stuff be straightforward for once?”
“Everyone is different and such is reflected in the stones fortifying our inner strengths. Why should there be so little birthstones when there are so many traits to represent?”
Both girls looked at him with blank expressions.
Patiently, he flipped the pages to one of the star charts at the back of the book. “The astrological year is divided into the twelve zodiac signs. Each zodiac sign is subdivided into three decades, meaning a set of ten days. There are additional factors to consider, but simply put, there are three birthstones for each sign, representing one decade each. That is why you come to different conclusions, you didn’t factor in the time of the month.”
He contemplated telling them about the stones meant to counteract each signs weaknesses. But seeing Skye pinching the bridge of her nose, while was Lizzie trying to process what he had just said, muttering “I hate Divination” under her breath, he decided against it. Better not too much at once.
“How do you know all this nonsense?” Skye was shaking her head in disbelief.
“I know all this because it is explained in the introduction of the chapter you two apparently weren’t reading too diligently.” He turned the pages back to the beginning and pointed at the paragraph on the first page.
Lizzie’ cheeks flushed a bright read as she quickly scanned the text. “I can’t believe I overlooked this.” Embarrassed, she quickly snatched the book out of Orion’s hands and got up. “Thanks for helping anyway.”
They made their way back to their places, the scent of jasmine and mint lingering behind. Orion was always glad if he could help a friend. A few seats down the table, Lizzie was discussing what he had just told them with Skye. He thought back on what Penny and Murphy had said on the train ride to Hogwarts a few weeks earlier.
Lizzie really had changed a lot. She seemed to be standing taller, an air of effortless confidence around her. The blush on her cheeks had made her look really pretty, reminding him of how the rush of the wind brought the colour to her face when she was flying. She was moving differently as well, more graceful and fluently, her hips swaying ever so slightly with every step she took. He had never noticed her hips swaying like that before.
McNully nudged his shoulder. “Uhm, Orion… if you don’t want to rewrite your whole essay, I’d move my quill if I was you.”
He snapped out of it and looked down at his parchment. The ink was dripping from the tip of his quill, forming a large black puddle at the end of his last sentence that was quickly spreading onto the rest of his half-finished essay.
Orion cursed under his breath, immediately drawing his wand to vanish the excess ink. Fortunately not too much of his work was ruined.
McNully raised his eyebrows. “Such a strong language, my friend. I have only heard you curse three times, so far. One time was when you crashed your broom into the commentary box and broke your wrist, the second time when you forgot the time while broom balancing and almost missed your Defence Against the Dark Arts O.W.L. exam and the third time when you burned yourself on your cauldron and spilled Wiggenweld Potion all over Professor Snape. This reaction is 87,9 % surprising.”
He felt the heat creeping up his neck. McNully was right, he wasn’t easily enticed to displaying his emotions verbally. He hadn’t meant to let himself slip like that.
Choosing not to answer his curious friend, he committed himself to restoring the missing part of his essay. But McNully wouldn’t let it pass like that.
He was nodding in the direction of Lizzie. “I wonder if she knows how much attention she is attracting.”
Orion gripped his quill a little tighter, concentrating on finishing his sentence. He fought the urge to follow McNully’s gaze.
“Our friend has a captivating personality, for sure. But would you mind lifting the veil of ignorance from my eyes and tell me how you reached such a conclusion?”
For a moment, McNully smirked knowingly before he directed Orion’s attention over to where their roommates were sitting. He could easily make out what McNully had been referring to. Everett was eyeing the girls up without even trying to conceal it.
“Him, of course. He’s been checking Lizzie out ever since she came over to us.” He smiled innocently at him. “Why, who did you think I was talking about?”
Orion’s brow furrowed in concern. He didn’t like the predatory look on Everett’s face. This guy had somewhat of a reputation.
“Yeah, I don’t like the looks he’s giving her either,” McNully echoed his unspoken thoughts with a scowl. He leaned closer to him, putting his elbow on Orion’s shoulder in conspiratorial way. “I think we should do something about it, don’t you? And by ‘we’, I obviously mean ‘you’.”
Shaking off McNully’s hand, Orion gave him a disapproving look. “And why would I do that? He is our new Beater if you don’t recall.”
“For the sake of the team, of course!”
McNully started reciting his calculations. “I’d put the chance of him going for our little Chaser prodigy at roughly 80 %. There are some variables unaccounted for, but I’d say the chances of Lizzie falling for him lie at something around 54 %. Which would affect the team’s dynamic gravely. And we can’t have that decreasing our- I mean, your odds on winning the Quidditch Cup.”
Orion blew onto his parchment until the ink had properly dried. “You talk as if he was actually hitting her up. All he did was looking at her.”
And there was certainly nothing wrong with looking.
“Lizzie can fend for herself if need be. Besides, who am I to interfere with the course the heart is deciding to take.”
McNully looked at him as if he had lost his mind. “Mate… I don’t think the heart has much to with it if you get my drift. Seriously, do something.”
“Don’t worry, I will.” He stood up and handed Professor Flitwick his work of the day.
McNully raised one eyebrow at him. “And what would that be?”
Orion gathered his strewn books and notes. “Finding balance inside and outside of my mind, my dear friend. See you at dinner.”

Tumblr media
************************************************************************After Spencer had disappeared, JJ was surprised, to say the least.
She held the unsub by the cuffs as he angrily spoke about Spencer's big genius brain solving an equation in 2 minutes which had taken himself a lifetime of work to figure out. She asked him where the machine had taken Spencer and he replied with all of this talk about quantum mechanics, particle waves, split dimensions, and voids. Stuff that Spencer had been info-dumping about for months, regarding the case.
All JJ cared to know about was if Spencer was safe, and to that the unsub just shrugged.
The first thing the team did when you all returned to the BAU was throw the unsub into an interrogation room.
Spencer was quick to volunteer as the only interrogator in the room, he argued this unsub would react the strongest to him.
The rest of the team were still flustered from all of this inter-dimensional information that Spencer had gone on about on the ride back. You had backed him up wholeheartedly and you were seemingly in great health after being gone for 5 months.
"Alright Reid, you seem to be the only one of us that has a good idea of what's going on. We'll watch from here, and if he gets too aggressive, we'll send someone else in," Hotch agreed.
You watched from the double sided mirror, the unsub was looking at it as if he could see you. You clenched your fists. He was the reason you'd nearly lost Spencer. He was the reason that Spencer looked sick from overworking and you had nightmares for 5 months straight.
"Hey, will you be okay in here?" Spencer lowered his voice to ask you. You had refused to stop holding his hand since you got here. He noticed your fist clenching tighter.
"I don't want him to take you away from me again," you replied.
"He's in handcuffs, and his machine is being collected for evidence. He isn't a wizard, he needs that machine like Nikola Tesla needs an inductor. He can't hurt us anymore," Spencer tried to comfort you, using the soft tone he knew you loved.
"Just don't take too long in there, and give him hell for me, alright?" You stood on your toes and kissed him.
He gave you a small smile and nodded.
You slowly slid your hand from his as he turned to walk out.
When he entered the interrogation room, he was no longer soft-Spencer.
The unsub didn't even turn to look at him, he was fixated on the double mirror. His eyes unnerved you.
You crossed your hands over your chest and leaned against the wall, deciding to keep your eyes steadily on Spencer.
"We know who you are." Spencer spoke. You smiled, recognizing that Spencer was turning the unsub's words to you against him.
Was Spencer purposefully trying to make you happy while he was in the middle of an interrogation?
"I know who you are as well, Dr. Reid," his gritty voice made your skin crawl.
"Good, then you should know that I understand the significance of the science experiments you've been conducting, Dr. Arnold Lynch. You've been labeled as a dangerous person to the entire world; a mad scientist." Spencer sat in a chair, his arms crossed.
"Now they listen." Lynch, rolled his eyes, finally looking at Spencer. His unimpressed gaze trailed up and down, sizing him up.
"I was like you once. Young, an impressive mind; maybe if I had found her sooner she would have loved me." Lynch added. He looked back to the mirror, you tasted bile at the back of your throat.
Spencer leaned forward in his chair, putting his elbows on the table.
"You're trying to change the subject." Spencer pointed out. "Tell me how all of this started. Tell me where your partner, Dr. Deborah Tryst, is hiding and how she helped you."
Lynch's eyes widened. "We were colleagues. She helped me build the machine, and I wrote the equations that made it work. We went in together, the first time."
"She tested the machine with you?" Spencer asked.
"Yes, we experimented. We tried to study the void space for years. Then, one day, a crack formed. Through that crack I saw her." The unsub looked towards you, seemingly locking eyes with you through the one-way glass.
"Y/N?" Spencer clarified.
"Correct. She was spectacular, the girl from a parallel dimension. We didn't know why the crack revealed her at first, but then we saw the string. It was barely noticeable, like a fishing line. It led from her dimensional crack to ours. All it took was a tug on that wire to know who the other end of that line connected to."
He was watching me? What a sick creep!
"Who?"
"Don't play stupid with me Doctor, I know you feel it."
Spencer swallowed, his eyes flicking to you for a moment.
"I should have gotten rid of you when I had the chance. My colleague thought differently. Now that the cracks were open, she observed you both, she knew you both would feel-" he sighed, "-incomplete until you were in the same space. She decided to play matchmaker and ruin everything. I loved Y/N first. Y/N was mine and she was a beacon, a magnificent anomaly! I took her back so she could be my pet; so she would never be yours!" He angrily spat, slamming his fists onto the table. Spencer stood, seething. You felt similarly.
"You had no right!" Spencer's voice was deep and angry. You'd never heard him so angry, other than in the show.
"No, Tryst had no right bringing her to you in the first place!"
"Y/N wants to be here. This is her decision. If you're so convinced you love her, you would want what is best for her."
"What's best for her Dr. Reid, or what's best for you? Is she any better off fighting criminals for the BAU? A job she isn't trained for." He cruelly laughed. "Is putting her in danger just so you can fuck her every once in a while off-duty not selfish? You think I'm the selfish one, look at yourself. You're just expecting her to be the lawful Bonnie to your Clyde, how long until you drive her into a hail of bullets?" Lynch smirked.
Spencer's eyes widened and he gripped the table.
No Spence, don't let him get to you.
"That's it, I'm going in there." Morgan spoke up next to you.
Hotch held his hand up to block him; his eyes on Spencer. "Wait, let Spencer speak. He's getting the unsub to talk, and that's good."
Spencer quickly collected himself, his expression going blank.
"Where is Dr. Deborah Tryst?" Spencer asked.
"Ooh, did I strike a chord, Doctor?" Lynch chuckled, leaning back in his chair.
"Where is Dr. Deborah Tryst?" Spencer repeated, angrier.
"Probably playing matchmaker. There are an infinite amount of dimensions for her to play with." Lynch shrugged.
"She's still in the void?"
"Yup, she's the reason the crack sealed when you two went through. She trapped herself in there and made sure I could never go back. Whatever she's doing, we'll never know for sure because it is impossible to recreate the initial crack. You should know just how improbable it was to create one in the first place, Dr. Reid."
"So there is no further possibility of danger?"
"Not cosmically, but, for our impossible girl over there, who knows what kind of dangerous situations you will put her in." Lynch nodded to the double mirror.
"She is not yours and she will never be yours. We're putting you in a maximum security prison where you will never see her again. So you can sit in your cell for the rest of your life and remember that she's with me, not you." Spencer's eyes darkened. You wanted to end this fight and get him out of there. He was only getting angrier.
Hotch walked through the interrogation room door, holding it open. "Reid," was all he said.
That was it, Spencer had gotten a lengthy confession from the unsub. The details would come up during his trial.
Spencer stood up, not caring about the wobbling chair as he did so. He walked out of the room and you went to the hallway to meet him. You met him as he was stomping down the hall away from you. "Spencer!" You called, hurrying to follow him.
He made his way inside an empty meeting space and you quickly slipped in behind him; closing the door.
He loosened his tie and ran his hands through his hair. You let him cool off for a few moments.
"He's right. I am selfish." He sounded beyond angry, even guilty.
He leaned forward on the meeting table, clenching his fists against the wood.
"He was just trying to get the last word in. Don't pay his words any more attention." You spoke, softly; placing a comforting hand on his shoulder.
"You shouldn't work here. You're not properly trained for the high-intensity, high-risk situations."
"Then I can train. Anyways, I doubt Hotch is going to let me work here now that he knows," you said, sadly. You loved working here. You loved helping people and being with your BAU family. You loved Spencer's daily teasing.
"Being with me puts you in enough danger. I couldn't protect you. What's stopping something from happening to you again?" He looked up at you, though he was still hunched over the table.
"All the other times you protected me." You gave him a small smile. "When Chris threatened me, you confronted him. When I jumped into the lake, you stopped me from drowning. When I was stuck in my dimension, you rescued me from a life of being absolutely miserable without you. When the unsub first encountered us, you stood in front of me even though you couldn't see him. You've protected me far more times than you are choosing to acknowledge. I trust you with my life, Spence."
Spencer's shoulders fell as his breath evened out.
"I love you Y/N, I just don't want you to get hurt." Spencer whispered, his grip on the table loosening. He slowly stood up straight to look at you.
"We aren't some alternate justice-duo, Bonnie and Clyde. We're perfectly capable of protecting each other, and we aren't some crazy serial-killing, bank-robbing couple. We're Spencer and Y/N, the BAU's hottest couple." You spoke with exaggeration and winked.
Spencer gave you a small smile. His hair was a mess, his clothing was wrinkled, and his tie was undone.
"It's been a long day. Take me home?" You asked, giving him your best doe-eyes as you reached up to fix his tie.
"Oh. About that- you're apartment and all your money and assets are sorta gone now. You were presumed dead."
"I'm not talking about that place." You rolled your eyes; unaffected by the news.
You were used to being dirt poor anyways and that house was nothing but an empty shell.
"Home, with you," you explained.
"Oh."
Spencer broke out into a large grin. He wrapped his arms around your waist and pulled you into a kiss. His coffee and woodsy-vanilla scent enveloped you like a warm hug. When he pulled away, he held his hand out to you.
"Come on then, I'll take you home."
Home, it was a strange concept. Your now-empty apartment in your dimension was once your home. You'd once almost drowned yourself to try to get back to that place.
Then you fell in love with Spencer, and living with him made you discover what a home truly was. It wasn't where you were from, it was the place you loved to be; the place you felt most comfortable, the most yourself.
Your home was in Spencer's dimension, Spencer's apartment, Spencer's arms, Spencer's everyday gestures, Spencer's smile, Spencer's late night chess games, Spencer's "I love you's," Spencer's raspy morning voice, Spencer's unruly hair, Spencer's hand kisses, Spencer's scrunched nose ticks, Spencer's info-dumps, Spencer's everything.
It was the most improbable circumstance and the one thing you were most thankful for. You got to spend your new life with Spencer.
In the end, Spencer Reid kept his promise; he did help you find your way home. Your way home to him.

SAN
Tumblr media
“It’s just few hours Y/N, few hours…” you whispered to yourself. “Are you ready babe?” asked San, wrapping his arm around your waist. “More than ready, yay…” you said, faking to be excited. “It’s going to be so funny!” he shouted. The group invited you to spend the day on a boat, for their day off. It was a nice intention, so you accepted, of course. And your boyfriend would be there so everything would be perfect. “Oh,” started San. “You are shaking of excitation huh?” he smiled. You nodded and tried to relax your entire body, “you can’t even imagine.” You could feel that San was happy to see you there with him. He didn’t have so much time these days and he was so sorry about that. “Let’s go, we’re going to leave soon.” He said, leading you to his team. You couldn’t make one step without being terrified by the thought of falling in the water. You tried to stay at the middle of the boat as possible, between all of them.
“Let’s goooo!” Shouted San, stomping. “W-Where are we going already?” you stuttered. “We are just turning around but Mingi proposed to go a bit far so we can swim peacefully.” Said Hongjoong. “Swim? In the water?” “You can only swim in water Y/N,” said Jongho, looking at you like if you were dumb. “No- I mean- It’s kind of dangerous no? There’s no one to help us if-“ “We are 9, I think we will be okay,” reassured Seonghwa. You stayed quiet after that, they seemed already excited to their little trip. You didn’t want to ruin everything because of your fear. “Do you think we are going to see dolphins?” asked San, holding your hand. “There’s no dolphins around here San…” said Yeosang. “Too bad, it would be a great experience.” He pouted disappointed, “don’t you think so Y/N?” “Yes sure,” you replied, just wanting to end the conversation. “Wow your hands are moist,” noticed San, giggling at you. “Probably the adventure excitation,” you lied. After few minutes, Yunho shouted that they needed to stop there. It was the perfect location to have a good time in the water. They all started to rush, removing their shirt to jump on by on. “You don’t go with us Y/N?” asked San, seeing you still sitting at your place. “Hm don’t think so, I prefer to stay here and enjoy the sun,” you lied. “Really? It’s going to be fun!” he insisted, pointing at Mingi and Yunho already splashing Yeosang. “It would be funnier for me to stay here,” you replied, avoiding his stare. “Well okay…” he said disappointed. You bit your lip, he was mad. San joined his members, but you could feel that he would be mad at you for few minutes. You facepalmed yourself, you should have told him about your fear of open water. After almost 1 hour, they all get back on the boat, drying themselves. “You missed all the fun Y/N!” said Wooyoung. “It was fun to see all of you having fun,” you smiled shyly. You turned around to see your boyfriend, drying his hair behind you. “Do you need some help San-ie?” “No, thank you.” He replied, a bit too cold for your liking. “Are you mad at me?” you asked straight. He faced you, “yes a bit. I thought that we would get some fun today, but you stayed on the boat the whole time.” You sighed and played with your hair, frustrated. “It’s just that I’m terrified by swimming or just being on water without nothing what there’s inside.” He raised a brow, “what do you mean? Are you talking about shark or something?” “No… the ocean is so deep… I don’t know… it just scared me a lot. Even if I’m not in the water, I’m getting anxious and more when I saw all of you swimming there.” San’s face became more relaxed and calm, “why you-“ “Because it’s stupid. It’s your day off, I wouldn’t ruin everything because of that. Even if I did a bit.” “No, you didn’t ruin everything, it’s already amazing that you put a foot on the boat.” He grabbed your hand, “I was just stupid, I’m sorry.” You smiled, “it’s okay.” “And finally, good thing they would have to see you in your bath suit,” he whispered to your ear. You rolled your eyes. He’s unbelievable.
MINGI
Tumblr media
“Please Y/N!” begged Mingi for the 164th time today. “Mingi, I said no… it’s too dangerous.” “Dangerous? It’s just a jet-ski!” “Yes, but what about you hurt yourself doing that.” You replied, looking for another t-shirt in your luggage. “I won’t! I will be careful! Please please please! Do it with me!” he insisted. You sighed again. Since this morning, he was asking you do to jet-ski since he saw someone doing it yesterday. He never had the occasion to do it. That’s why he was begging you so hard today. Of course, you didn’t decline because it’s dangerous. You know that he would be cautious or Atinys and his members would be sad if he got injured. But when he asked you to do it with him, you freaked out. Since you are child, you are extremely scared of open water. All the horror movies you saw because of your friends didn’t help but knowing that the ocean is really deep or all the creatures below, terrified you. “Okay, you can do it, but I won’t, I’ll record your performance okay?” you said, standing up to face him. “What no, do it with me! It can be so funny!” he said, holding your hands on his chest. “Why? I won’t do anything except holding you.” “Exactly!” he said, smirking. “You are unbelievable,” you sighed. He puts his forehead against yours, “please do it with me.” “Mingi… I need to tell you something.” You said seriously. He stepped back instantly, “are you breaking up with me?” “No idiot.” You sat on the bed. “Do you know what open water is?” He tilted his head, “the movie?” “No… open water, the thalassophobia?” “What the hell is that?” “It’s when you are swimming in a lake or oceans and you suddenly have like a panic attack because you can’t see what there’s below you.” “Oh, I see.” He scratched his head. “But why are you talking about this?” “Because I’m actually scared of this. I can’t just go swimming as you or someone else would.” “Really? I didn’t know it was a big deal.” He said, sitting next to you. “It might be stupid for some people but it’s real and just by the thought of going in the middle of a lake and ignoring what I can find, is giving me anxiety.” “Oh… so that’s why you were against the idea of jet-ski.” He realized. “Yep. But if you want to do it, just go. I’ll watch you, okay?” “It won’t be the same without you,” he said, wrapping his arm on your shoulders to keep your body against his. “It’s just for few minutes! And you will get so much fun, I will film you okay?” you smiled. “Hum… okay.” You raised a brow; he wasn’t too hard to convince him you thought. “Then we should go before there’s too much people.” He said, rushing to the bathroom to wear his bath suit. “This guy is scared of bugs but he’s going in the ocean like if it was a swimming-pool…” you whispered. “Human are strange…” 15 minutes later, you were ready to film your boyfriend the time of his life. “Don’t forget to smile!” you shouted at him. He answered you by doing a thumbs-up and followed the employee a bit more far. When Mingi was about to get on the jet-ski, he yelled and ran around the employee. “What the hell are you doing Mingi?!” you shouted, laughing but scolding him a bit. “Something touched my foot! You scared me with your thalassophobia!” “Stop being a baby and get on this jet-ski!” you replied, louder. “I can’t! What if something drags me under the sea!” You sighed; this boy was not doing better than you.
WOOYOUNG
Tumblr media
You held Wooyoung’s hand tighter than usual. You ignored if he noticed it, but you couldn’t care less. Being on this yatch made you feel uncomfortable and terrified. Wooyoung’s friend, Yeonjun, threw a Yatch party for his birthday. You were with Wooyoung when he invited him. You don’t know if he did because he was polite or because he liked you (as a friend of course) but he gave you an invitation card too. While you were anxious and scared by going on a boat for few hours, Wooyoung was incredibly excited. His voice was higher and louder the whole week. He could probably talk with dolphins at this rate. The entire week, you read and tried to inform about how you could get rid of your fear. Except some articles who advised to take a doctor appointment or to jump right into your fear, you didn’t find the best solution for you yet. You finally opted for acting like everything was fine the whole night and stay in the middle of the yatch as possible. Even if Yeonjun asked his guests to be well dressed, you choose your favorite sneakers. You couldn’t stay the whole night with heels. What if you need to run if something bad happens? “Are you sure everything’s okay?” asked Wooyoung, coming next to you. “Yes why?” you replied, acting like you weren’t terrified. “You seem… uncomfortable.” He raised a brow. “No, I’m fine,” you said, smiling awkwardly. “Okay… If you say…” “Are you having fun?” you changed the subject. “YES! His party is amazing! He really did well this year!” he shouted. “It’s good that-“ you started. “Wooyoung! Y/N!” called Yeonjun. “Let’s do a “water jump” contest!” “Wh-“ “WE ARE COMING!” replied Wooyoung. “What? No Wooyoung!” you grabbed his arm. He faced you, not understanding why you were so reticent, it was not a big deal for him. “It’s okay, I’m pretty sure you will win, what you can’t do!” he smirked. “No, I can’t.” You said, anxious. “Then okay, stay here if you want.” He rolled his eyes. “I’ll get some fun somewhere else then.” Said Wooyoung, leaving you there, alone. What does it mean? That you are no fun? You’re doing almost everything Wooyoung does. Both of you are always laughing no matter what. How could he say that? For sure, he hurt your feelings. Annoyed by your boyfriend’s comment, you climbed at the next floor to avoid the loud music and stay a moment alone. You could hear some of the guest jumping in the water and yelling one by one that they won. To be honest, you didn’t care about who the winner would be. Wooyoung’s behavior really hurt you. You did your best already to be there with him, but he acted like a kid when you say no. But… a part of you knew that it wasn’t his fault since he doesn’t know about your open water fear. But still, it’s not a reason to act like that. You sat on the bench and nervously messed up your hair, “what should I do?” “Are you okay?” asked Wooyoung, standing at your right. “Huh- yes.” You said, avoiding his stare, doing like if didn’t existed. He sat next to you, looking at the large horizon. “I’m sorry, I shouldn’t treat you the way I did, it wasn’t nice.” You didn’t reply. Not because you were mad, or maybe a bit but mainly because you hesitated to tell him about your fear. “I forget that you are terrified about open water.” He sighed, ashamed by himself. “How do you know that?” you asked, facing him. “One of your friends told me about it. She said that you find this fear stupid and want to keep it for yourself.” He summarized. You didn’t know what to say, it was a sudden plot twist. “It’s okay you know, we are all scared about something,” he smiled at you. “We will work on it, so you can be more comfortable about water or-“ You hugged him tightly. It was rare that you show a sudden affection to him, but he didn’t mind, he liked it and above all, he loved your hugs. “Thank you Wooyoung,” you whispered, face in the crock of his neck. He rubbed your back, “it’s okay. I will always be there for you.” Sometimes he could be a brat but most of the time he was so nice and lovely to you.
JONGHO
Tumblr media
You were on an excursion in Jeju Island with your boyfriend and his teammates. Seonghwa proposed the whole group to spend a week to relax and enjoy a good time at a calm and peaceful place. Since you’re Jongho’s girlfriend, he invited you too. And honestly, he didn’t let you enough chance to decline. The first days were nice, you discovered many places and enjoyed the atmosphere here. You visited the most touristic places and ate many delicious meals. Everything was perfect. And of course, being here with your boyfriend was the cherry on top. Sometimes, both of you would escape from the boys and spend a nice and romantic time together. Since your relationship was still recent, you learned many things about each other during these little escapes. But you ignored why you couldn’t manage to tell him that you were terrified by open water. He told you some of his worse secrets or fun facts about him. It wouldn’t be a big deal to say the truth about one of your biggest fear. But you didn’t have the opportunity to escape again till the end of the vacation. The day when you were supposed to go back to Seoul, Yunho and Mingi didn’t want to follow to actual plan. “What about we go back to Seoul with a Ferry and not the plane. It could be really funny!” said Yunho, smiling widely. “Hum… are you sure we can take it? We should have booked it earlier,” said Seonghwa. “I’m pretty sure it’s not full,” claimed Mingi. “I don’t see any bad thing to take the ferry.” Added Hongjoong. “So?” waited Yunho, already jumping by excitation. “The weather is not really good; I don’t think it’s a good idea.” You said. They all looked at the sky. It was a bit cloudy but nothing to worry about. “I think it’s okay Y/N,” said Jongho, next to you. “As Seonghwa said, I don’t think it’s a good idea to go there if we hadn’t booked earlier.” “It’s okay!” Said Yunho, patting your head. They all started to go at the ferry direction, determined to buy tickets. You stopped Jongho discreetly. “I don’t think it’s a good idea.” “Why? I know it’s a bit longer but it’s okay,” he smiled. “Can we take the plane please?” you begged him, seriously. “What’s happening babe?” asked Jongho worried. “I-huh-,” He raised a brow, curious to know what’s going on. “You know you can tell me everything,” he said, trying to help you. “Imactuallyterrifiedbyopenwaterandtakingtheferryisgivingmeanxiety!” you said straight without breathing. “Y/N wait, calm down, I didn’t understand at all.” “I can’t take the ferry! I’m so scared of open water!” you repeated slower. “Really? But you are not swimming or-“ “I know but I can’t. I tried few times, well before we met but I’m freaking out just by thinking about it.” Jongho noticed how scared and stressed you seemed. You were really terrified about it he believed. He never saw you this way. Your eyes were teary, and your hands were shaking a lot. “Then if it’s hard for you, let’s follow the first plan okay?” “But the boys?” you asked, looking at them. “I’ll tell her that you feel uncomfortable,” he simply replied, holding your hand. You nodded, relaxed but disappointed. After few long seconds, Jongho didn’t move, he was still staring at his hyungs buying their tickets one by one. “You won’t tell them now?” “I just wait that they all buy their tickets, to be sure that they won’t bother us.” He winked. You scoffed; he was the baby of the group but probably the smarter one.

I Hate Bullies
Dad!TonyxReader
Word Count: 2,480
Request by @shady80smusicsingercolor - avengers x stark!reader, where the reader is 16 ,and had bad day at school, like the mean girl decided to tell her ugly things ,like are u even good enough to be a stark, reader overhears ,cries, when they get home ,Steve is the first there but haven't notice those tears, but when the reader flinch,he saw them, and ask what happened at school, but the reader denied to answer,so he call the team,Tony ask what's wrong while the rest of team were worried, and told him eventually, team got furious, but calm down,Tony decided to pay the girl visit with the avengers at the end
A/N: If you’re being bullied please don’t be afraid to tell someone about it. You should never feel less because someone decides they want to make you feel less. You have value. You are loved. You are your own journey not anyone else's.
Sophomore year was really sucking, you were beginning to hate yourself for not letting your dad push you up several grades like he wanted. At least if you were getting bullied than you’d be closer to the end of school.
But alas, you wanted to stay with kids your own age because, being with a bunch of older kids was bound to get you bullied, right?
Turns out, no matter how old you were or how smart or even if you were famous, people were still mean.
You were sitting at your usual lunch table when Marissa, a popular girl in a few of your classes, came up to you. Her two best friends at her sides.
“Hi, Y/N,” she said, you could tell by the glint in her eyes that this was not going to end well for you.
You tried to ignore her, but that just made her annoyed.
“I heard a rumor that you have a crush on Cooper.” She said, examining her nails.
You didn’t want to play into her games but you found you needed to defend yourself more than letting her walk all over you. “It’s just a rumor. No need to worry about me trying to flirt with anyone let alone Cooper.” You rolled your eyes.
She glared at you. “Excuse me, freak? Are you insinuating there’s something wrong with Cooper?”
She twisted your words, making you sigh. You were sick of this happening everyday. Everyday she came to bother you. You couldn’t figure out why she couldn’t just leave you alone.
“You’d be lucky if Cooper even gave you the time of day. You have no personality, you think because you’re smart and have the world handed to you that you’re better than everyone and I’ve never seen someone as ugly as you. You are the most bland unattractive girl in this whole school. No one likes you. Why don’t you just leave already? I’m sure your precious daddy would be more than glad to pay off the school and let them bump you up enough to leave. It’s too bad your dad didn’t have a cuter kid. I’d be willing to be your step-mom if you weren’t so ugly to look at. It’d ruin family photos, you don’t even deserve to be Tony Stark’s kid.”
She was on a roll today. And you tried to ignore her, but you really couldn’t handle the attacks on your looks and the fact that she said you weren’t good enough to be a Stark. You weren’t exactly secure in yourself either.
“Oh, look, the ugly girl’s going to ugly cry,” one of Marissa’s friends said and fake boo-hooed.
You bit your cheek, to stop yourself. You wouldn’t cry in front of these bullies. Luckily enough the bell rang. You stood with your tray and went to move away from them the opposite way. Suddenly, there were hands on your back and with just enough force you were pushed forward and fell, straight onto the tray.
The trio laughed and finally left.
Tears filled your eyes as you sat up. Your shirt was completely ruined and you were going to be late for class. There were only two classes left. You decided it wasn’t worth it.
You went straight to your locker, pulled out your gym shirt and went to the bathroom to change into it. After that you went to the nurse with complaints that you’d thrown up in the bathroom during lunch and just managed to make it to her after changing your shirt that you’d asked for a bag for.
She let you rest in her office until the bell rang for the end of the day and you were practically running home.
You finally broke down in the elevator on your way upstairs.
To your dismay about halfway up the elevator stopped and quickly you were wiping your cheeks as Steve stepped on.
“Hey, Y/N,” he greeted, barely looking up from a report he was reading.
Flinching you quickly tried to gather yourself, you’d hoped he wouldn’t ask. “It was fine.”
Steve noticed you flinch and could tell by your inflection that fine did not mean it went well. He finally looked over at you and noticed your cheeks were damp.
Thanking your dad mentally for creating the high-speed elevator it reached the top quickly.
Steve had opened his mouth to ask what was wrong but the elevator dinging stopped him and you sprang from the machine. “Y/N, wait.” His hand fell on your shoulder to stop you. “What happened at school, doll?”
You refused to turn and look at him as your eyes welled with tears.
He could feel you shaking. “Hey,” he tried, but suddenly you were pulling from his grasp and running to your room. He was confused for sure and didn’t know what to do. “F.R.I.D.A.Y.” He called to the a.i.
“Yes, Mr. Rogers?” She answered.
“Call for an Avengers meeting, please.”
/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/
“Okay, now that everyone’s here,” Tony said, once the entire team had gathered in the meeting room. “What’s going on?”
“Well, I wasn’t sure what to do… or who would be the best option to ask for this mission, so I figured it’d be better to get everyone together. About 20 minutes ago, I got on the elevator and Y/N was just getting home from school. At first she seemed fine, but then I asked about school. She said it was fine but she’d flinched like it was a sore subject and when I asked she ignored me, started crying and ran away…”
The team was in an uproar, all asking questions that Steve couldn’t answer.
“You had to call a whole team meeting for this?” Tony asked, already getting up from his seat and heading for the door. “I can’t handle this, thanks. You should have told me 20 minutes ago when I met you here. I was the first one dammit.” He didn’t wait for a response from Steve before he was rushing to your room.
The team all decided to move to the living room, in order to catch Tony once he was finished speaking to you, to make sure you were alright.
Tony knocked on your bedroom door. He could hear your muffled sobs into your pillow and tsked. He knocked gently. “Sunshine, can I come in?”
You ignored him, as you tried to stop sobbing long enough so maybe he wouldn’t hear, but you knew he wasn’t going to grant you that wish.
Your door creaked open and shut again.
“Sweetheart, what’s wrong?” Tony asked, taking a seat on the opposite side of your bed.
You didn’t answer him and continued trying to stop crying.
It didn’t work.
The second your dad was pulling you into him your sobs started again in full force.
“Shhh, shshsh, baby it’s okay,” he whispered. Rocking you and stroking your hair. “It’s okay, daddy’s got you. We don’t need to talk until you’re ready, but I hope you can talk to me when you’re ready. I’m worried about you. Uncle Steve told me you ran away from him and were crying. He’s so worried about you he called the whole team together for a meeting.”
You groaned in embarrassment and pressed your face further into your dad's shoulder.
He stayed quiet after that but he continued to stroke your head and hold you close.
It felt like forever before you were finally pulling away from him, still sniffling.
He wiped at your face with his sleeve pulled over his hand.
You refused to look at him but you did finally work up the courage to speak. “I’m sorry I worried everyone…”
Your dad leaned and kissed your forehead. “No one likes it when you’re sad sweetheart. What happened at school today that you came home so upset, hm?”
You fought off the fresh wave of tears that threatened to come. “It-it’s dumb dad, I’m sorry you had to stop what you were doing to deal with me just being a cry baby…”
Tony tsked at you, “You know I don’t believe that for a second, baby. Something happened and I’ll wait for you to be ready to tell me but I don’t want anything happening to you so I’d like it if you could tell me soon, okay? I need to know this isn’t going to happen again.”
You nodded stiffly. You wanted to tell him, but at the same time you felt Marissa was going to keep this up now that she finally found something that bothered you so much. You swallowed thickly, deciding that you could get the message out loud and clear with a different question and topic. “Is it too late to bump me up a couple grades?”
Tony’s frown deepened. He knew right away what was wrong, and it had to do with your peers. Because you refused so hard to go forward due to you wanting to stay at the same grade level as the kids your age, so if you were asking to go forward, well that meant something happened that you wanted to get away from. Something happened that if he agreed, well it would take away the rest of your high school experience. “What boys ass do I need to kick?”
You looked up at your dad, finally, confused. “What?”
“I’m guessing that whatever happened was probably due to a guy. You’re trying to run away from your problems sweetheart and I don’t want that. So whose ass am I kicking?”
You let out the smallest of chuckles before shaking your head. “No, dad. There’s no guy whose ass you have to kick…”
“Oh,” he said, wishing he was right, because that would be an easy fix. Just threaten the kid to leave you alone or else. But if it wasn’t- “Is it a girl then?”
You hesitated, hoping that wouldn’t be his next question. You sighed in defeat. “Yeah… it’s Marissa again… I-“ tears welled again. “She just really got to me this time dad… normally I can just brush her off but… she was extra cruel today… her-her and her friends shoved me to the floor at lunch and I got food all over my shirt. And she-she called me ugly and like fine whatever I know I’m not beautiful but I don’t need that to be rubbed in my face and I don’t let you hand the world to me and I do all that I can for the less fortunate because I would rather them have a roof over their heads than me having some stupid designer bag like those girls do. And-and I didn’t ask to be a Stark. I-I know I’m lucky to be your daughter and I love you, but her-her telling me I don’t deserve to be your kid? It-it hit different… not to mention the crude joke she made after that and I-I just,” the sobs started leaving you as you came down from your rant.
Tony was silent for a few minutes as he held you. When he finally spoke he surprised you. “Y/N, if anything, every Stark that came before you didn’t deserve to have your name. You sweetheart, are everything I could have ever hoped for in my life. You do so much good. I might save the world from aliens but you really work close to home. You meet those that need help and you do everything you can to give them support. You’re so personal and you aren’t afraid to stand out to do that. You have taught me more good than I ever knew possible. You have given the Stark name real meaning and so much good. I’m beyond lucky that you’re my daughter. I never want you to listen to anyone that wants to tell you otherwise because you are the most incredible Stark there is. You are incredible, beautiful, so smart, and best of all you’re my kid and I am grateful everyday for having a light like you in my life. Don’t let some dumb jealous girl hurt you like this. I’m going to take care of this to make sure she leaves you alone. I never want you coming home crying like this again.”
You sobbed harder into your dad. Relief flooded you as he held you. Eventually you relax enough and fell asleep.
That was when Tony finally slipped a blanket over you, kissed your cheek, and left you to sleep away your stress.
When he returned to the team he was furious. He explained everything to them, to his surprise they were all still there, impatiently waiting for his return to find out how you were.
“We have so bratty little girls to go speak to the team.” Steve stated. Tony hadn’t seen him that angry since the airport battle years ago.
Marissa’s mother yelled at her to go answer the front door. She rolled her eyes and obeyed. When she opened the door to her surprise all the Avengers stood on her front porch and each and everyone of them looked pissed.
Tony didn’t even bother with the girl. He entered the house and found the girl's mother. He was going to tell her directly what happened. Meanwhile, it was Steve that dealt with talking to the girl.
All while the rest of the team stood watching the girl.
She looked like she was going to pee herself with how scared she was. But Steve offered his charming smile and she seemed to relax a little.
Nat smirked and Clint fist bumped her.
Meanwhile Bruce was trying to not Hulk out with Wanda and Vision keeping an eye on him.
Suddenly Steve started to speak as the girl's eyes widened at his low, angry voice. “We will never have this conversation again. So I’m saying this once. I don’t care how awful you think your life is, taking it out on others is disgusting and you should be ashamed of yourself. You will apologize to Y/N, and then you will never even look her way again. It’s not a well known fact, but I hate bullies. And you don’t want to be on Captain America’s bad side.”
Tears of fear fell from Marissa’s eyes.
Her mom and Tony entered the room. He didn’t even cast her a look. “Well Ma’am thank you for your time. We will let you speak with your daughter alone. Team?”
When your dad and the team got home they all hugged you and told you what happened. And the next day at school when Marissa came to apologize, you ignored her. Because you didn’t need to forgive her. She could feel bad about what she did, but she didn’t deserve your forgiveness. You just moved on because you were a Stark, you were better than that.

Christmas Lights
Summary: This is Bucky's first Christmas with your family, & he's trying to do his best to make them like him.
Warnings: Fluff, smut, female reader
“Please?” I said, batting my eyelashes and grinning at him. Bucky shook his head.
            “I don’t think it’s a good idea, (Y/N),” he disagreed. I frowned.
“Buck, you already missed our first Christmas together because you were scared of my parents and because you weren’t ready for my grandparents to meet you. But you’re part of the family now, and you promised that we would spend Christmas together this year.”
“I promised I would go to your parents’ house for Christmas and that I’d go to the family dinner at your grandparents’ place,” he corrected. “I never said anything about putting up lights at your parents’ house three weeks before Christmas.”
I huffed in annoyance. “But that’s part of the Christmas experience!”
“It’s part of your family’s Christmas experience. You’re supposed to be spending time with your family. Your parents aren’t going to want me there, and I don’t want to intrude on any family traditions.”
His voice was quiet, and I realized what this was about. I sat up on my knees and crawled across the bed to him, straddling his lap and taking his face between my hands to force him to look at me. His beard scratched against my palms but his skin was warm, and I watched as his tongue darted out to wet his lips before his blue eyes finally met mine. He looked so sad, it broke my heart.
“You are family,” I told him fiercely, my thumbs brushing along his cheekbones. “You are my fiancé, and that makes you a part of my family. You and I are a package deal now. My parents know that. They’ll have no problem with you being there.”
Bucky nodded, but there was still hesitation in his features. I sighed.
            “What is it?”
“What if someone sees me?” he asked. “Your parents’ place isn’t exactly off the beaten path – So many people drive by every day.”
“Yeah, and they’re driving between ninety and one hundred twenty kilometres an hour,” I interjected. “Put on a toque and no one will have any idea who you are. All they’ll see is an extra person out in the yard putting up Christmas lights.” I pouted. “Please come, Buck. Christmas is my favourite time of year, and this is the first one we really get to enjoy together – and our first one as an engaged couple. It would mean the world to me if you came with me tomorrow.”
I understood his reservations. Bucky hadn’t celebrated a real Christmas since before the war. After HYDRA captured him he spent seven decades as the Winter Soldier, in and out of cryo, and then another three as a war criminal. Even last Christmas, half a year after we’d met, he spent the holiday at the Avengers compound because he was convinced that my family would never accept him as my boyfriend. Although at first they hadn’t been too keen on me dating an ex-assassin, they eventually warmed up to him and I had already vowed months ago to make sure this Christmas made up for the seventy years he missed.
Bucky pursed his lips, but finally he exhaled and nodded. “Fine, I’ll go with you,” he murmured. “But if your mom gets upset that family time is ruined, that’s on you.”
“Yay!” I squealed, throwing my arms around him. “And trust me, she’ll be grateful to have an extra set of hands and someone tall to help string the lights on the taller trees.”
                                           ✯¸.•´*¨`*•✿ ✿•*`¨*`•.¸✯
Just as I had expected, my mom was thrilled to have the extra helper the next day. She had Bucky holding up lights for her as she strung them on the cedar trees outside the living room window. I giggled and nudged his side playfully.
“Normally this would be my brother’s job. If you weren’t the tallest one here you wouldn’t have gotten roped into it,” I teased. My mother frowned.
“Your brother should be doing it,” she said, “but he’s too busy out four-wheeling with his friends.”
“I don’t mind anyway,” Bucky insisted with a small smile. “I haven’t gotten to enjoy Christmas like this in a very long time.”
“Well at least one of us enjoys it,” my dad grumbled as he walked past us with a box of twinkling laser lights for the front yard. I rolled my eyes.
“You complain about it every year, and yet you’d be very upset if we didn’t put the lights up,” I pointed out, which caused my dad to scrunch up his face because he knew I was right.
“Just shut up and come help me with these damn things.”
I laughed and then turned to Bucky. “You alright here?”
“I’m good, doll,” he chuckled. “Go help your dad.”
As I was holding up the box for my dad as he rummaged around for the screws to put up the laser lights, he glanced over at Bucky.
“So he really makes you happy, huh?”
I blushed and smiled. “He does,” I agreed. “Happier than I’ve ever been.”
“And he treats you well?” my dad asked in a gruff voice as he screwed the laser into the post and adjusted it.
“Like a queen.” I smiled privately, knowing that with his supersoldier senses Bucky could hear everything we were saying. “I feel…safe when I’m with him. Like the feeling I get when I’m home. I can’t even imagine life without him anymore.”
My dad nodded. “Your mother and I have noticed how much happier you’ve been since he’s come along,” he said. “We had our reservations at first, but he really is good for you. We’re both happy to see you so happy.”
My heart warmed at this, and I didn’t have to look to know that Bucky was smiling. I grinned.
“You’re not usually so sappy,” I teased, poking at my dad playfully, “but I’m glad you guys gave him a chance. Thank you.”
“Yeah, yeah. Now let’s get these lights up before your mother can change her mind and decide she wants them somewhere else.”
A couple of hours later it started getting dark and the temperature started dropping. My parents were arguing over where to put the last laser light, and my brother had joined us briefly only to abandon us again shortly after to go to the gym. It was no longer mild out and I was regretting not wearing a toque or a thicker jacket.
“You’re shivering,” Bucky murmured, and I frowned.
“Not all of us have abnormally warm body temperatures,” I countered, wrapping my arms tightly around myself. “You could be nice and share some of that body heat.”
Bucky chuckled, and then he was pulling me into his arms and against his chest. His warmth immediately enveloped me and I snuggled closer, pressing my face into his neck. I could feel him kiss the crown of my head and I smiled.
“I’m glad you’re here,” I murmured, and a soft laugh rumbled in his chest.
“Why, because I keep you warm?”
“Because I love you, and I wouldn’t want to spend Christmas with anyone else.”
Bucky pulled away from me, and even in the dying light of the evening I could see the adoration shining in his blue eyes. I was just about to stretch up and kiss him when my dad came out of the garage and my mom rounded the corner. We pulled apart, blushing, and my mom laughed.
“No need to stop on our account,” she teased.
“Did you agree on the laser lights?” I asked, changing the subject. She nodded.
            “Come see.”
Bucky and I followed my parents out to the front yard. They’d set up the lasers so that it looked as if the entire front lawn was covered in sparkling red and green lights, and the big maple tree was completely lit up. I glanced up at Bucky, who looked in awe.
“Christmas lights sure didn’t look like this in my time,” he breathed, and I slipped my arms around his waist.
“Well you have been around for a century, old man,” I teased. “Lots of things have changed since then.”
Bucky snorted, but before he could say anything my mom spoke.
“It’s snowing!” she exclaimed, and we all looked up to see fluffy white snowflakes falling from the sky. The laser lights caught them and they sparkled red and green as they fell. I grinned.
            “It’s so pretty,” I breathed.
“Sure is,” Bucky murmured, and I looked up to see him looking at me. I rolled my eyes and shoved him playfully.
“Listen to you,” I snorted. “You’re such a cheeseball.”
“I hate to interrupt this touching moment,” my dad chuckled, “but we’ve been out here all day and I’m tired and cold. Why don’t we call it a day?”
Everyone agreed, so we cleaned everything up and headed inside where it was warm. Bucky and I curled up on the couch with hot chocolate while my mom made dinner and my dad showered. Elf was on TV, so we watched that.
“Y’know, I’m really glad I’m here too,” Bucky murmured against my hair as I was snuggled against his side. “Thank you.”
“Thank you,” I replied, turning my head to kiss his chest. “I hope this becomes an annual thing.”
            “Me too, doll.”
The snow ended up getting so bad that my parents insisted Bucky and I stay the night. I was already snuggled under the covers of my childhood bed, but Bucky was scanning the books on my bookcase.
“Buck, come to bed,” I whined. “I’m cold.”
“I want to see what kind of books you read as a teenager,” Bucky countered. He picked up my copy of Twilight and cocked an eyebrow. I blushed.
“Don’t even say it,” I warned. “Everyone my age read them.”
            “Mmm.”
I rolled my eyes with a huff of my breath. “Would you just come here? I’m still cold from being outside all day and I can’t warm up the bed fast enough on my own.”
Bucky’s eyes flashed to mine. “What are you implying, doll?” he asked, his voice lower than it had been before. I smirked.
“Well I was referring to the fact that you’re a human space heater,” I replied, “but since you mentioned it…” I bit my lip and patted the bed suggestively. Bucky frowned and shook his head.
“Your parents are right upstairs,” he said. “We can’t…”
            “We can if we’re quiet.”
Bucky snorted. “Since when are you ever quiet? Besides, I’ve just started earning your parents’ respect. I’m not going to ruin that by screwing around with their daughter under their roof.”
Ignoring him, I shimmied out of my shorts and panties under the covers and then threw them, along with my t-shirt, across the room. I was completely naked underneath the blankets, and Bucky was very aware – I watched the muscle in his jaw twitch as he regarded me with narrowed eyes.
“Whoops,” I said innocently. “Now I’m gonna freeze.”
“You’re gonna be the death of me, woman,” Bucky grumbled, and then he was crossing the room and was on top of me within seconds, his lips catching mine in a searing kiss. He yanked the covers from my body and I shivered when the cool air hit my skin, but then he was tugging his shirt over his head and we were skin-to-skin. The heat from his body immediately warmed me and I hugged him to me, but all too quickly he was pulling away to slide down my body until his face was between my thighs. His hot breath fanned out over my core and I shuddered.
“So wet for me already,” Bucky murmured, and then he was bringing up his left hand to swipe his fingers through my folds. The cool metal of his digits made me jump and he chuckled before placing a light kiss to the inside of my thigh. Once he was satisfied with the way my juices coated his fingers, he plunged two of them inside me, and I couldn’t help the moan that slipped past my lips. Bucky’s hand stilled.
“You have to be quiet, doll, or we’re gonna have to stop,” he reminded me, and I bit my lip in frustration, glaring at him.
“Don’t you dare stop,” I warned him.
“Then keep that pretty mouth of yours shut.”
As he spoke, his fingers began to thrust in and out of me slowly and I let out a quiet whimper as I bucked my hips up to try and get him to hit that spot inside of me. He smirked before his head ducked in so his tongue could swipe across my clit. My back arched off the bed as I gasped, and Bucky chuckled.
“I didn’t say this was going to be easy for you,” he said, and I narrowed my eyes.
“Do your worst, soldier. I can guarantee I can handle it.”
“Alright.” Bucky shrugged, and then he began to pump his fingers in and out of me with renewed vigor. He crooked them inside of me the way he knew drove me wild while his lips closed around my clit and sucked, hard. I clenched my teeth and squeezed my eyes shut, every instinct telling me to cry out as he worked me closer and closer to my orgasm. Suddenly he switched, his tongue probing my entrance before slipping into me, while his thumb rubbed circles against my clit. My hands tangled in his hair as my orgasm crept closer, sitting right on the edge and just waiting to push me over. My breathing had become ragged, and I looked down to see that Bucky was watching me while his mouth and hand worked over me. The sight of him between my thighs, eyes blown with lust, was what ended up pushing me over the edge and I came undone, my hips bucking off the mattress as I bit down on my bottom lip to stifle the scream that threatened to rip from my throat.
Bucky licked me clean of my juices as I came down from my high and then he crawled up my body to kiss me. I tasted myself on his lips and a fresh wave of heat spread through me. I reached down to cup Bucky’s bulge through his boxer briefs, causing him to inhale sharply. I smirked.
“This all for me?” I asked him, and he grinned.
“That depends, doll. You gonna be able to take it all without making a noise that’s gonna alert everyone in the house of what I’m doin’ to ya?”
His words flooded my core, and I licked my lips before tugging the boxer briefs from his hips. He kicked them off and then leaned in to kiss me as I pumped his hardened member a few times. He reached down to place a larger hand over mine, guiding me to slide him through my soaked folds a few times before positioning the tip at my entrance. He held my gaze while sinking into me, and we both hissed at how snugly he fit.
“So tight, doll,” he murmured. “I’ll never get over how good you feel around me.”
“Love the way you stretch me,” I breathed in response. “So good, baby. So big.”
He grinned at the praise, and then he pulled nearly all the way out before thrusting back in. He kept this slow pace for a few minutes, making sure I could feel every inch of him, before his hands gripped my hips and he started driving into me with more force. This faster and harder pace soon had the pressure inside me building up, and both of us had started breathing much more heavily. Bucky leaned in to capture my lips with his and I took the opportunity to lock my legs around his waist. This new angle had him hitting me deeper than before, and as he thrusted into me his pelvis ground against my clit, adding to the pleasure. My second orgasm was fast approaching, and I wasn’t sure how long I could hold off.
“Bucky…” I managed to gasp out, and he locked eyes with mine.
“It’s okay, doll, come for me,” he rasped, his voice husky with desire. “I’m right with you, I’ve got you.”
“Kiss me,” I said breathlessly, and with one final thrust Bucky covered my mouth with his, stifling my scream as I came around him. Not five seconds later I could feel his cock twitch and then he was spilling inside of me, his lips still connected to mine. When we were both spent, Bucky’s arms wound around me and he rolled us onto our sides, his half-hard member still inside of me. He pressed a soft kiss to the side of my head as I snuggled into his side.
“You warmer now?” he chuckled, and I grinned.
“Mmm, thank you. I feel much better.”
“Your dad would kill me if he knew what I just did to his daughter while he was in the room right above us.”
I laughed and shook my head. “You were the Winter Soldier, and you’re afraid of my dad?” I snorted. “You’ve faced people a lot more terrifying than him.”
“I never fucked any of their daughters, though.”
“It’s a good thing you’re making an honest woman of me, then,” I murmured, lifting my left hand to look at the ruby-and-diamond engagement ring on my finger. Bucky took my hand in his and then leaned in to kiss me.
“I can’t wait to spend every Christmas for the rest of my life with you, doll,” he murmured, and my insides warmed.
“Me too, Buck. I’ve never wanted anything more in my life. I love you.”
“I love you,” he answered, and then he was rolling on top of me, still inside of me and already nearly fully hard again. “Think you have enough energy for one more round before we go to sleep?”
With a grin, I rolled my hips into his. “I’m all yours, soldier. Give me all you’ve got.”

The First One - Bonus scenes in traditional written word
This is a smau and a zukoXreader, although i haven't decided how this ends yet.
Y/n has recently transferred to Ba Sing Se from Omashu university and meets the gaang through a schoolproject they do with sokka and suki.
Masterlist
Bonus 4: Good Morning
The sound of a machine of some sorts woke you up. A look out the window confirmed two things: It was still rather early and Haru’s parents’ neighbours had no idea what an appropriate time for high-pressure-cleaning patios was. Sighing you sat up and looked around. You found your shoes and thought you remembered where the bathroom was.
The short night definitely left its traces on you: Your clothes and hair looked deschevelled, you didn’t smell as fresh as you would like, you had dark circles under your eyes and your voice was rather hoarse. You did what you could without rummaging through the drawers of the bathroom, then you wandered through the house.
There were fotos everywhere. Most of them were of Haru, who you guessed didn’t have any siblings, but some had a very kind-looking couple on them. A wedding picture in which they both laughed at something happening out of frame. It seemed genuine, a true candid shot. He had his hand around her waist and her hand was in mid-air, presumably on its way to fix his tie for the actual wedding picture, but something must have had happened. They both were bending over laughing pointing out of frame looking at each other.
You studied the picture. I made you like the couple. It made you believe in their love and their relationship. It made you want to get to know them. Be a part of that happiness and trust and joy. There was no question why they chose to display this picture. It was amazing!
You watched the couple become parents, buy a house, get older and go through the decades that saw Haru grow from a baby into a smiley toddler, distracted child, unimpressed teenager and openhearted twenty-something. They seemed a happy family. Truly.
The journey through Haru’s life had left you at the front door and wanting some coffee. You found the kitchen empty but quickly discovered a coffee machine. While it was entirely too sophisticated for the broke student you were, you did manage to get it to spew out some dark and caffeinated goodness into a cup you found in the second cupboard you opened. With it you kept on strolling through the house until the living room introduced you to the French doors that lead into the garden. And boy, the garden!
You sat in that little paradise when your phone buzzed and Zuko begged you to talk to him. Apparently, he was at his uncle’s shop working the early shift and there was not a lot to do as it was Sunday. You texted back and forth for a good while.
Yesterday you hadn’t talked to him a lot, outside of him apologising for his uncle and the Sokka-rum-discussion. You know learned that he was a good nephew and studied International Business and International Relations. When you called him out as ambitious, though, he was quick to bring up the words pressure and expectations. You didn’t know him. And whatever those expectations and that pressure were about it seemed you weren’t competent to comment on it or them. Zuko struck you as a private person. You contemplated telling him exactly that. You didn’t. You conveyed the message, though. He seemed relieved. And he liked politics and diplomacy which told you a number of things:
Be wary of any promises he makes. He might be doing that politician thing where he doesn’t keep them
If you ever want to ruin somebody’s life or career, ask him how to do it, he will have learned about it and remembered
If you ever don’t know how to handle a conflict ask him, he’s into figuring out compromises and status-quo-situation
He probably gives good advice. The kind that will be good for you and not too offensive to others
He is smart
He is into reading
He can find the good in the bad.
After all it sounded like his parents made him study those subjects and if he had had a true choice he would have gone for something else. Yet, he found aspects that he enjoyed, that he could use in his life and that he could be passionate about.
He liked travelling
All in all he was intriguing. A lot of layers to peel back. Whether it be the interest in politics – which were a lot of smoothtalking, manipulation, using popular opinions AND ideologies, the fate and future of countries and people and so many struggles or the family history. You could probably have real conversations with him. And you decided you would like to as well.
Another thing you learned about Zuko was that he was Sokka’s secret source for his part of the Worldhistory project. In the past couple weeks Sokka had gone on and on about how much information he had gotten form an anonymous sponsor.
“Sokka made it sound like you were the discovery of a century!”
“Am I not?” No, for all you knew he wasn’t.
Yes, he was intriguing and most likely multi-layered; yes he was tall and dark and handsome and that scar on his face added several facets to that handsomeness; yes, he had that tea-loving angel of an uncle, but he was no discovery of a century. He was some good-looking guy with an interesting background.
“To be determined” Better not alienate him by telling him he wasn’t all that special. You still wanted to be his friend.
Could you have gone on for two more hours talking to Zuko? Yes. Yes. You could have. But you didn’t because there were footsteps in the house. And it sounded like they were coming from the kitchen. You got up to investigate. Hoping you’d find Sokka, Suki, Toph, Aang or Katara in the kitchen, you would have been okay with Haru, but instead you found an agile white haired gentleman. From the fotos you recognised him as Haru’s father. He was doing something to the sophisticated coffeemachine and congratulated himself. Then he turned around, saw you, got scared and nearly let his cup fall and crash on the kitchen tiles. Instead he just made a weird move with his arm that resulted in a wave of hot liquid jumping into the air and splashing on the floor.
“Ouch!”, the man screamed. “Who the hell are you?”
“Sorry, Sir. Y/n. I’m friends with… I know your son. Haru. We helped him pack up the party yesterday and he told us we could stay here. I assumed you knew…Excuse the intrusion, please.”
“Tyro”, he extended his hand. You shook it.
“You’re not intruding. Haru told us that some of his friends might stay over. I just didn’t expect anybody to be awake yet. And we don’t know each other.”
“Again, sir, sorry.”
“That cup empty?” Tyro pointed at the mug you had brought with you.
“Nearly. I took the liberty of drinking your coffee.”
“Do you want more? I can offer you black coffee and black coffee with milk from the fridge. The thing is supposed to be able to come up with all kinds of fancy drinks, but that’s more my wife’s department. I didn’t bother learning about that.”
“Black coffee would make me really happy, Sir.”
Tyro filled your cup and gestured for you to follow him back into the garden. So, you did. He asked about who you were and how you knew his son.
“To be honest, Sir, there isn’t a lot to tell. I moved to the city for this semester. Transferred from Omashu University. I’m studying anthropology. One of the classes I take together with Sokka and Suki, who are friends with Zuko who used to be Haru’s roommate. Aaaaaaand they brought me to the party yesterday. There I met Haru. The end.”
“You helped him tidy up the speakers and all that jazz after having only met him that night?” You nodded your head yes.
“Commendable.”
You carried on talking to Haru’s dad, brushing on the subjects of family, education and music. The band Haru played in was called “Grounded”. According to Tyro they were “just having fun” but they also “sounded like actual musicians”. This band needed to be inspected.
You told him about Gray Sky and Tiff on the Rocks, the pub you used to play. It turned out that Haru inherited his passion for music from his father. Dad all but interrogated you on you average guitar playing and experience with piano lessons, when his wife walked through the French doors.
She introduced herself to you and asked if you wanted more coffee. As she was the coffee-maker-whisperer, you now were offered the entire range of coffee-drinks and gladly accepted a Cappuccino the size of your head. After she mad you happy with that, she sent you back out, with the intention of preparing breakfast. You offered to help but were quickly shut down.
The moment you sat down in the lounge chair by big tree, Haru entered the kitchen, got a cup of coffee from his mum and was surprised to find you in musical discussion with his father. Thankfully, he did remember you and was delighted to hear that you were a fellow guitarist, even though he was likely a lot more skilled than you were. In fact, you said this multiple times, resulting in Haru running inside and grabbing one of his dad’s guitars.
You  started by playing some of the 90's hits that Sokka had massacred the night before, proving that Haru was better than you. You handed the instrument back to him.
"How about You Oughta Know?", he suggested. You looked at him, blinking.
"You said you used to sing in Omashu. Let's hear it."
"Uhm…", you hesitated.
"I'm with stupid", Tyro chuckled. "I'm curious."
"Fine."  You let Haru play a few tacts before you started the verse. He harmonised with you in the chorus, during which Tyro got another guitar.
From Alanis you moved to the Verve; from "Nothing compares 2 u", to "Loser". Haru and his dad loved the 90's. Nirvana, Take That, TLC, Blur, Oasis, Britney, Beasty Boys, you named it they had it. Aang, Katara, Suki, Sokka and Toph joined you three out on the patio, all carrying cups of various coffees and plates full of food. While harmonising to Tyro's lead you remembered that his wife had talked about preparing breakfast. From what you saw on your friend's - yeah friends! - plates, she had not held back. There were eggs and bacon, pancakes, bread, cinnaminrolls and meats, cheeses, jams, butter and honey.
When she herself came out to join the table, she carried a  bowl of yoghurt and nuts, that she assured everyone was an option for everyone. Tyro got his own plate and dat down next to Sokka. He motioned for Haru and you to come eat but you two were determined to finish the decade. So, you did. And then you entered the 2000s. Every now and again you'd pick up the second guitar, while alternating with Haru singing lead and harmonising. You had the time of your life!
Haru's mum topped off your coffees and although your stomach was screaming at you to give it some of the wonderful smelling food, you played and sang for more than two hours. The others enjoyed your efforts and sang along when they were done eating. Tyro relieved his son of guitar duties and jammed with you while Haru diminished the pancakes.
He then took your spot and you praised the eggs, bacon and cinnamonrolls.
"If you're ever desperate  for something to do, you're welcome to my appartment and put on breakfast!",  you said, all but crying, after noon when you had finished. Haru's mum blushed. But die didn't say no.
After you had finished your breakfast, everyone helped clear the table and load the dishwasher. Tyro insisted you all had another round of coffee, during which there was more music and Sokka got the recipe for the hangover cure smoothie that Mrs Haru  had made him as soon as he entered the kitchen.
You left around 2:30 with many "thank yous" and "you're the bests" and "we can help some mores". Although you hadn't slept much you decided to hit up the Jasmin Dragon to see if Zuko had  died from boredom already.

Stray Kids 8 Part Series MASTERLIST
A/N: Hi guys!! Sorry it took me so long to post again, but I’m back, and hopefully I will be able to write more frequently! This story is centered around the changes in Changbin’s appearance and confidence from debut to now. I always feel bad writing members in pain, but this is the story I came up with lol,, I guess the moral of this story is that idols are people who have valid emotions and feelings, and we as fans don’t have the right to dismiss them and treat them like dolls. So on that note, thank you all for reading!!<33
Tumblr media
All throughout his childhood, Seo Changbin had always been skinny. There was never much of a reason for his naturally slim stature other than genetics and a fast metabolism. It always seemed as though throughout his youth, he had never experienced the usual figure changes that a lot of his friends had gone through, whether it was the gain of muscle or fat.
No matter how much food he ate, it never seemed to show on his body. There wasn’t a single part of his body that had excess fat covering the very visible bones. He could never grab a hold of any extra flesh on his body like some of his friends could.
As a teenager, he was always told that it was because he was a “growing boy”, and that he needed a lot of calories in order to grow big and strong. It wasn’t until he was in his early twenties that his stature began to change. He slowly became more muscular, thanks to his countless hours in the gym. Not only that, but he began to notice the faint gain of fat whenever he ate a lot without burning the calories.
In a way, Changbin had always felt like he was blessed to be naturally slim. It was especially appreciated for someone in his line of work. Even after it became easier for him to gain fat, the company had never considered him “too heavy” for an idol. Muscle mass was a different story, however as time progressed, Changbin was able to build the perfect amount of muscle to satisfy the company as well as his fans.
In short, Changbin had always liked his body.
“Time’s up!” Doni called. “Put your markers down.”
Changbin didn’t put his marker down. Giggling like a small child, he avoided the attempts Jisung made at stealing the black marker from his hand, only stopping when the show host called him out on it.
“Changbin’s naughty, he keeps cheating!” Coni laughed.
This was what Changbin loved doing. Making a fool out of himself during variety shows, cheating during games with his members, and overall acting like a child whenever he could.
“We should stop the show right here, Changbin ruined it for everyone.” Doni joked, and Changbin felt Jisung collapse on his back in a fit of laughter, nearly knocking them both off their stools and onto the ground.
“Okay, let’s start with Felix! Show us your drawing,” Doni called, and Felix flipped the notebook he was holding in his hands around.
The point of this segment was for the members to draw a portrait of how they perceive another member.
The entire group as well as Doni, Coni, and a few of the staff members had burst out in laughter at the drawing Felix made of Jeongin.
“Felix, you forgot eyebrows!” Jeongin whined from his spot. Changbin didn’t even notice the missing eyebrows; he was more focused on the teeth that were twice the size that they should have been.
The segment continued on like that, and Changbin felt a swell of pride when the whole group laughed at his drawing of Minho, which looked so scrappy that a five year old could do better. Changbin was having fun.
It wasn’t until it was Jisung’s turn to share his drawing that his mood took a shift.
“And this is my drawing of my lovely Changbinnie-hyung” Jisung giggled from his spot behind his muse.
Changbin took in the piece of art before him. The hair was scraggly, the eyes were small, and the chin looked more like a “V” than a chin.
Changbin laughed at the representation of himself.
“Oh the chin! The chin!” Coni laughed as he made the shape of a “V” with his hands to mock the drawing. Changbin laughed.
“That is the most accurate drawing so far!” Doni commented as he forcefully took Changbin’s face and traced the edges of his chin with his fingers. “Wow, Han is an artist!” Doni cracked as he high-fived Jisung. Changbin laughed.
“He captured Changbin’s face so cleverly!” Coni praised, sitting back down on his stool. Changbin faked annoyance at the hosts and at his band mate. And then, he laughed once again.
His brothers were practically howling at the scene, their voices creating a cacophony of sound ringing in Changbin’s ears. He was happy. He was laughing. So why did it feel as though his stomach was falling through the floor?
For the first time that day, Changbin had to forcefully plaster a smile on his face. He felt the bubbling feeling of embarrassment in his chest for the rest of the filming.
A little while back, Han Jisung had been given a nickname by his fans. Less than a nickname, it was more of a cute comparison. His cheeks had always been unusually large and soft. Whenever he would eat, he would store food inside of them, making them more accentuated than they were before. It was because of this that fans had begun calling Jisung a squirrel.
Jisung liked the connection. Contrary to how he presents himself, he had often struggled with accepting and liking his cheeks. He didn’t like the way they made him look younger and more boyish. He wanted to be perceived in a more mature and manly way.
That was why when fans began to compliment and praise his chubby cheeks, it helped him become more confident in his face.
Changbin had seen the improvement of Jisung’s spirit. Praise for Jisung’s cheeks from fans had helped him improve his self image a lot, and for that, Changbin’s love for his fans had only grown.
He only wished that he could experience the same reactions to his insecurities.
Changbin wouldn’t consider himself jealous of Jisung’s full cheeks and round face. It was stupid to compare oneself to another person based off of superficial things like looks, however it didn’t stop Changbin from appreciating the younger boy’s unique features.
The show aired on it’s planned date with no faults. Changbin watched the program on television, and was fairly proud of the results of the editing process. He had hoped that STAYs would enjoy the hour-long show.
After a few hours, Changbin opened Twitter so that he could get a sense of how his fans appreciated the show. Skimming through fans’ tweets, he noticed a few that stood out to him.
Most of the comments were about Felix and Jisung’s aegyo, or Hyunjin’s random dance challenge. The deeper he scrolled, the more tweets he found about him.
Normally, having a lot of tweets aimed at him would be an honour to Changbin. It usually meant that he was charismatic and funny enough to gain fans’ attention. That was why he didn’t understand the embarrassing feeling that came along with the jokes about his face structure.
That’s all that they were. Jokes. People liked to joke about his chin, so why should he worry? Why did he feel shameful?
Changbin’s stomach continued to drop with every comment he read about his face. Every time he saw that drawing of him, it was like another pin stabbing his chest.
That night at dinner, everyone was talking about the show. The members were talking about the comments that they received, the fans reactions, and how they thought it was a really successful show.
At one point during the meal, Jisung had shoved Changbin in the shoulder and laughed about the drawing that he made and how funny the fans thought it was. Changbin laughed.
Changbin had always been able to hide his feelings well. Especially as an idol, hiding hardships is mandatory. Changbin was good at laughing. It was a sure fire way to make everybody think that you’re happy, when on the inside, it feels like you’ve swallowed a thousand bees.
So that night, he laughed. He subjected himself to be the clown, even though it hurt him. Nobody needed to know about how he let his tears fall onto his pillow while they all slept.
Changbin had thought about how he was working so hard to remain slim and skinny, and how if he were to gain just a little more weight, he could possibly make himself softer and cuter, like his brother Jisung.
He figured that it was worth a try. Sure he might have to fight the company tooth and nail to gain the weight that he wants, but it was worth it. It was worth it to change how he looked. It was worth it to satisfy his fans.
For the next few weeks, Changbin had let himself gain weight. He ate more and stopped trying so hard to burn it all off. He still worked out enough to remain healthy, and he was still trying to gain muscle, but whenever he stepped on the scale and saw that he was a pound or two heavier than he had previously been, he felt his heart swell.
It was an odd thing to want to gain weight. Most idols would kill to be as skinny as Changbin had been, yet here Changbin was, trying to gain weight for the purpose of chubbier cheeks and softer edges.
Eventually, it began to work. Changbin began to wake up in the morning to see that his face was rounder, fuller, and cuter than it had been before. The whole thing made him elated.
It had gotten to the point where he was satisfied with his outer appearance. His chin was much less prominent. A less prominent chin meant that there was less for people to make their jokes out of.
“Hannie, stop!” Chan shrieked just as Jisung smeared a fat glob of vanilla frosting on his cheek.
All of the members were crowded in their living room, celebrating Bang Chan’s birthday with their fans. The energy level in the room was ecstatic. Some members were getting cake violently rubbed into their skin while others were trying to read comments and make the VLive as normal as possible.
Changbin was in the middle of answering a question when he felt a tap on his shoulder from behind where he was sitting on the ground in front of the coffee table. Before he thought better of it, his head was turning and he was met with a face full of frosting from Minho.
“Hey! Minho, get back here!” Changbin screamed, getting up to chase the nuisance around the room.
Laughter filled the room and lit up Changbin’s heart. He thought that nothing could destroy his mood.
It wasn’t until the next day that Changbin had checked Twitter again.
He scrolled through a lot of happy birthday wishes for Chan, which made him smile. He read a few of the messages, and saved the ones that he wanted to show to Chan.
And then, he got to some posts about the live. Most of them were sweet and nice, there were some clips of various parts of the live including the moment that Changbin got his face full of cake. As he scrolled for longer and longer, he got to some comments that were less light-hearted.
They didn’t like the weight he gained. Of course he noticed the comments from fans who had thought he looked healthier and happier, but no matter how many positive comments he saw, the posts from people calling him fat and saying that he was “letting himself go” were far stronger. The people calling him a pig and a fatass and ugly were too loud.
Changbin didn’t understand. After everything he did to satisfy the fans, they still made negative comments about him. He once was too skinny, now he is too fat.
He knew that he shouldn’t listen to people who didn’t show their faces, yet to know that people were confidently calling him degrading names stung him deeply. He felt a hopeless feeling bloom inside of him, and it drove him mad.
Changbin felt the first tear slip down the side of his face as the feeling of his chest collapsing took him over. His phone was thrown across his bedroom, the sound of a screen shattering as it hit the floor being the only identifiable noise in the room.
He wanted to scream. There was no pleasing them. He hated himself. He hated the way that he looked. He hated himself when he was skinny, and he was beginning to hate himself now that he gained weight. But mostly, he hated the way that he was reacting.
This was the job, wasn’t it? None of this should be surprising to him. He had known about the malicious comments aimed at the other members for various reasons, so why was this so frustrating for him?
Changbin fisted his hair to ground himself. He tried to count his breaths in his head, but all he heard was the comments ringing around in his ears.
...He got fat...
...Has he stopped working out?...
Fucking breathe.
...He’s turning into a pig...
...Changbin’s face is so fat...
Letting out his first scream of frustration, Changbin shot up from his bed. If the fans wanted him to be skinnier, then fine. He would get skinnier.
This was for the good of his career. Nobody liked an ugly idol, and if he is more attractive with a slim stature and a pointy chin, then he would work to achieve it. If he gained the weight, surely he could lose it again.
The room was small, and it felt like it was getting smaller.
Wiping the tears from his eyes, he threw open his bedroom door. Changbin grabbed his running shoes from the rack by the entrance, slipped them on, and took off from the dorm that felt like it was suffocating him.
The night air was refreshing against Changbin’s burning skin as he sprinted down the street. Ten o’clock at night couldn’t be considered too late to go for a run, especially when the moon was shining so beautifully in the otherwise pitch-black sky.
Changbin didn’t know where he was going, but he didn’t care. His lungs and legs were burning with the unexpected extortion. The sweatpants and t-shirt he was wearing didn’t make for good running clothes, but that didn’t matter to him.
For a minute, he felt okay. He could even say that he felt good. For a minute, he had forgotten all about the fans and their vendetta against his happiness.
The wind had dried the tears off of his cheeks, and he just became another faceless person in the dark. Changbin didn’t think of himself as an idol, but rather a person who’s tight chest was slowly beginning to take in enough oxygen for his head to stop pounding.
He didn’t know how long he ran for that night. His mind had cleared completely of thoughts, and he wore himself out. He didn’t even notice the warning signs of exhaustion before he was throwing up in a patch of shrubs.
Slowly coming back to reality, Changbin realized he needed to get home. He wasn’t too far from the dorms, so once he gathered some strength back, he began walking.
It was hard to tell how long it took him before he was trudging up the stairs and letting himself through the front door. He tried to be as quiet as possible.
The clock on the stove read 12:24. Changbin knew that if any of the members had realized he was gone, that he would be in a world of trouble.
He took his running shoes off at the door and made his way to his and Felix’s room, expecting to see the younger boy playing video games or getting ready for bed. What he was not expecting was to see Felix sitting on Changbin’s own bed, frowning at the phone in his hands.
Felix’s eyes darted up like a meerkat, relief flooding his features when Changbin entered the room.
“Where the fuck have you been!” Felix sighed, jumping up from the bed to pull the older boy into a hug, “I came out of the shower to see you were gone, you weren’t answering your damn phone, I was fucking worried you asshole!”
Changbin repressed a smile as he pushed Felix away. “I’m fine, don’t worry.”
Felix scanned Changbin, his eyes narrowing into suspicious slits. “Did you go for a run?”
“Yeah,” Changbin answered.
“In... your sweats?” Felix fingered at the pockets of Changbin’s sweatpants, and the older boy swatted his fingers away.
Changbin nodded and flopped down onto his bed.
“Why didn’t you take your phone with you? I’ve been trying to call you,” Felix ran a hand through his hair, “Fucking hell,” he sighed.
“I don’t know, Lixie.” As soon as Changbin’s head hit the pillows beneath him, he felt the exhaustion from his midnight run catch up to him. “You should watch your language, by the way.” he mumbled, cracking a small grin.
“Changbin, seriously,” Felix climbed up beside him, “You’re fucking lucky! I was two seconds away from telling Chan, I swear to god.”
Changbin looked up and saw the lines of genuine concern stretch across the boy’s face.
Felix had always been a caring person. He was always dependable, and he was really a true friend. It didn’t matter if Changbin was older, because he knew that Felix would always be there to protect him.
Wordlessly, Changbin grabbed Felix by the arm and pulled him to lay down beside him. A fond smile graced his face.
“Thank you for worrying,” Changbin whispered, “but I’m fine.”
Felix sighed. There was a beat of silence where Felix closed his eyes, and Changbin had started to think he fell asleep. But then, “Are you okay?”
Changbin was stunned and confused for a second. “Yeah... why?”
“You don’t usually go for runs. Especially not late at night.” Felix whispered.
Changbin snaked an arm around Felix’s torso. “I was just having a bad day.”
Felix was fidgeting slightly. It looked like he was fighting some sort of internal battle about whether or not he should say what he wanted to say.
Changbin smiled at the nervousness. “What?” he encouraged.
Felix’s gaze caught Changbin’s eyes. “Was it the comments? About your weight gain?” he asked in a small voice.
Silence. There was no sound coming from anywhere in the dorm as Changbin processed the question. The smile that rested on his face immediately slipped away.
“I... I saw them on Twitter, and they pissed me off, so...” Felix trailed off, lowering his gaze, “I mean you haven’t even gained that much...”
“I gained the weight on purpose,” Changbin said when he zoned back in on Felix.
“Oh...” Felix’s eyebrows furrowed in confusion, “Why? I mean, not that you don’t look good, but like... Why did you want to gain weight?”
Changbin thought about why he wanted to gain weight. He thought about Jisung’s drawing, the “V” face comments, the constant embarrassment around his appearance, and his own insecurities.
“It’s stupid.” Changbin dismissed, but of course, Felix kept digging.
“It’s not stupid. It’s just me, you can tell me.” he eased.
Changbin sighed. “You know... how people had been making jokes about my face? And my chin?”
Felix nodded, confusion showing again.
“I hated those comments.” he whispered. “I just got so insecure about my looks after people began to make those jokes, and I just... wanted to fix them.”
When Changbin looked at Felix, he saw that the confusion was still etched onto his features. “But...” Felix started, “you always laugh at those jokes.”
Changbin felt like shit for unloading this onto Felix, yet he continued to explain. “I’m good at laughing.”
The boys sat in silence for another minute. Felix seemed to be mulling over what he had been told, and Changbin watched the look of confusion melt into one of realization, and then sadness.
“I’m so sorry,” Felix breathed, “I... I didn’t know you felt like that. I would have never made those jokes.”
Changbin felt his heart crack. Felix almost sounded heartbroken, and it killed Changbin inside.
“But hyung...” Felix said, “you know that you don’t have to fix anything, right? You’re perfect. Don’t let them get to you.”
Teardrops were threatening to fall from Changbin’s eyes for the second time that night, except instead of being born out of pain, these tears were brought on by the overwhelming feeling of being loved.
“Okay...” was all Changbin could muster the strength to whisper. He didn’t trust his voice, so instead, he leaned forward and planted a soft kiss on his best friend’s forehead.
“You know what, hyung?”
Changbin hummed.
“I have dealt with so much hate because of so many things,” Felix sniffled away his own tears, “first they were upset because I wasn’t fluent in Korean, then they didn’t like my freckles, then it was my voice, and I thought that there was just no winning with them.” Felix closed his eyes.
Changbin didn’t even think about that. If any member was no stranger to criticism from online fans, it would be Felix.
The thought was crazy to Changbin. Why would anybody go out of their way to hurt somebody as sweet and perfect as Felix? The thought of somebody actually hating Felix for his mess of pretty freckles still amazed Changbin.
“But you know what I realized?” Felix continued, snapping Changbin out of his own thoughts, “It’s not my job to please everyone.”
“What do you mean, Lixie?” Changbin asked.
Felix opened his eyes again, “Like... I’m doing music for me, right? If people don’t like the way that I look or who I am, then that’s their problem, not mine. Get it?”
Changbin was amazed.
“How are you so young and yet more wise than half of the industry?” Changbin saw the light in Felix’s eyes, and it made him smile, too.
“I mean it still hurts sometimes, but... less now.”
Changbin agreed. He couldn’t see how reading vicious comments like that could ever end up getting easier.
“But now that I know you get comments and stuff that hurt you too, maybe we could... help each other. When it hurts a lot, you know?”
“Like you mean... I come to you when it hurts, and you come to me?” Changbin asked. It made him feel special to know that Felix trusted him enough to want to go to him for comfort. It made him feel like he wasn’t the only one that got happiness out of their relationship.
“Yeah, something like that,” he answered.
Changbin’s smile returned full force.
Felix was like sunshine, Changbin thought. This issue that seemed so horrible and painful to Changbin, now seems less than half as terrible since Felix was there for him. Since now, Felix was there to comfort him.
He didn’t care if it made him weak or less of a man, because he didn’t feel like he had to be strong when he was with Felix. Felix had always been comfortable in his emotions, and Changbin admired that about him.
“If you’re happy with the way that you look right now, you should keep it this way,” Felix encouraged him, “because for the record, I think you look better like this. You look happier.”
“I am happier,” Changbin whispered.
Shortly after that, the two boys fell asleep in Changbin’s bed, happy to have the support of their best friend.
Although it was hard at first, Changbin slowly became more confident in himself and his appearance to not care about how other people wanted him to look. Even when he slipped up, Felix always caught him with a hug, a smile, and a shoulder for him to rest his head.
For a while, Changbin had to fake his happiness during videos and variety shows. No matter how much he repressed it, the worry of how his fans would react to his appearance was always dangling in the back of his mind like an itch that he couldn’t scratch.
But it got better. Changbin found himself worrying less and less about what his fans thought, and more about what he thought. Over time, he didn’t have to fake his happiness. The fans had even noticed how Changbin’s growing confidence affected him.
And perhaps best of all, eventually began to laugh again. It wasn’t a fake laugh, or a laugh to cover his shame. It was a real laugh that honestly held his real happiness. And unlike how he laughed before, this laugh was the product of his self confidence and strength. No laugh could ever be brighter or fuller than his.

"I simply cannot save the world on an empty stomach." - Dawne Lisle, Thirteenth Warp Wizard
When I wake up the next morning, I'm no longer physically exhausted. But I still feel drained, like my soul is exhausted. My magic definitely hasn't returned yet.
It's easy enough to get out of bed and get dressed for the day. I throw on a pair of jeans and a hoodie, hoping that this will be acceptable enough for whatever Cassius and Rowena have in store for me and Tessa today. But just what did they have planned? They didn't give us any details last night. Hopefully, they’ll reveal a bit more at breakfast.
I mentally check the time. Even in a world between worlds, I can still pinpoint the exact time, seven forty-eight. Breakfast would be starting soon, so I make my way to the dining hall.
Surprisingly, and unfortunately, I'm not the first one there. Tessa sits at her usual spot, twirling her sabre, a far-off look in her eyes. She doesn't even notice me until I take my seat directly across from her.
"Oh!" She fumbles with her sword, quickly flipping it closed and putting it away. "S-sorry, I didn't hear you come in."
I sit back in my chair and say nothing. Something's off with her this morning, but why? I don't think I've ever heard her stutter before. Where is her normally cool and confident self? Did last night in the gym really throw her off that much?
Her eyes search mine. I don't know what she's hoping to find, but I do my best to not give her anything. "Did you, uh, sleep well last night?"
"Like a rock."
She nods and looks down. "That's good."
I take a closer look at her face. Dark circles hang under her eyes. Had she not been able to sleep last night? I shake my head and turn away. Whatever, it's not like I care about her sleeping habits. One restless night wouldn't kill her. And besides, it was probably some form of karma anyway.
I keep studying her face. She did seem genuinely upset last night. Devastated actually. Her reaction had been a little over the top given the situation. Is there something else bothering her? Besides the whole 'save the entire space-time continuum' thing. But I mean, that's practically nothing.
I press my lips together. We couldn't keep going like this. We were stuck together and who knows what Cas and Ro are planning for us today.
It's not easy, but I manage to say, "Listen, I don't blame you for what happened last night. You heard Cas. It was my fault."
She waves me off and rests her head on her hand. "No, it's fine. It's not the first time. I always mess things up."
Before I can ask her what she means by that, Sam hurries into the room. He crashes into the chair next to me, nearly pushing me out of mine. "Joe! Thank goodness you're here. I need to talk to you. Last night, in the library…" he stops, panting heavily.
Tessa and I both lean forward. "What?" we ask together.
"There- I saw- we saw," he continues to huff, "a ghost!"
"A ghost?" I ask. I can’t help the doubt that creeps into my voice. Okay, so Sam's not adjusting well…
"Who's we?" Tessa adds. Any traces of her earlier self-doubt or depression are gone. Her usual mask of over-confidence and sassy attitude reappears.
"Juniper and I." Sam rearranged himself to properly sit in his chair. "And yes a ghost." He glares pointedly at me.
"Are you sure?" I ask, at the same time Tessa says, "What did it look like?"
I raise an eyebrow at her. She didn't really believe him, right? But she ignored me, her full focus on Sam and his story.
He nods eagerly and starts talking a mile a minute, "Yes, ask Juniper. She was with me. She was reading these weird books and promised to teach me about magic. Oh! Speaking of weird books-"
"Wait, wait, wait." Tessa cuts him off. She places her hands on the table in front of her. "Did you say June was reading? But she-"
"Doesn't like books, I know." Sam finishes her sentence.
Between the two of them, I don't know if any sentence will be finished. We're definitely not going to get the whole story this way. Part of me wondered if we should even be talking about this right now. Wouldn't it be better to wait for everyone else to arrive? At the very least, Cas and Ro should hear this.
"Okay, Sam," I offer, "let's assume you did see a ghost. Why don't you take a second to breathe and calm down? Then, when everyone else gets here, you can tell us what happened."
He frowns at me, knowing I don't believe him. To be fair, it wasn't like Sam to just make up some wild story like this. Fred, sure, but not him. We had seen some crazy stuff over the years. I guess seeing a ghost inside a magic school isn't too out of the ordinary for us.
"That's not a bad idea. I have a few questions for June anyway." Tessa sits back in her chair and folds her arms across her chest.
I smile to myself. Maybe there's hope for our little motley group yet.
Of course, that thought gets ruined as soon as I think it.
"For the last time, no." Arwen growls and stomps into the room.
Fred trails in behind her, whining, "Oh, come on, why not?"
"Because I said no. I really can't simplify that any more." She plants herself in the chair next to Tessa with a huff.
"Please? Aren’t we friends now? Why can’t I-"
"Shut up!" Arwen stabs her knife into the table. It vibrates in place, barely an inch away from Fred's fingers.
I jump back, staring wide-eyed at the knife. Just how bad did Fred piss her off? It's only eight in the morning. Sure, Fred can be annoying, but that is excessive.
Fred recoils. "I just thought we really bonded last night."
"Sounds like you two had a lot of fun," Tessa says with a smirk. "I'd love to hear more about this bonding experience."
Arwen glares at her. "You can shut up too."
She rolls her eyes in response and offers Fred a pitiful smile. "Don't take it personally. Ari’s not a morning person, and she really struggles with anger management."
Juniper giggles as she enters the dining hall and joins us at the table. "I'll say. Remember that time she lost it on those kids in the park because they hit her with one of their water balloons?"
"That was completely justifiable."
"They were, like, eight."
Arwen groans and buries her head in her hands. "Okay, everyone can officially shut up. It's too early for this."
"Too early for what?" Our final two members finally walk into the room and take their seats at the head of the table. "I hope you're not ready to go back to bed. You kids have a big day ahead of you."
We all perk up at that. "We do?"
Cas nods. "Oh yes, but first, we must eat." He waves his hand. Green mist hovers over the table and vanishes just as quickly, leaving behind a full breakfast buffet.
Easily distracted by the food, I load my plate with a stack of pancakes and begin drowning them in syrup.
I distantly hear Sam cough next to me, and judging by the pointed look he's giving me, it's not the first time he's done it. He looks from me to Juniper, to Cas and Ro. I almost wish I didn't understand his hint.
Setting down my fork, I sigh. Why does he have to be so dramatic? "Can't we eat first? I'm starving."
"Not surprising considering the surge of magic you let out last night," Cas says, eyeing me closely. "We should look you over before we leave today."
I wave him off, hoping my exhaustion doesn't show too much. "I feel fine. Really."
Cas and Ro both give me a look letting me know they don't believe me for one second. Well, it was worth a shot. I don't want to have to go to the infirmary. I was hoping to avoid it this summer. My nose twinges at the memory of last year's injury.
"Anyway," I say, eager to change the subject. I point to Sam. "Sam claims he saw a ghost last night."
I can't help but notice Juniper tense up. Her hair is covering her face, so I can't read her expression. Sam had said she'd been there last night too. But she’s acting much too casual for someone who saw a ghost the night before.
Sam nods so hard, his glasses almost fall off. "It- he looked sort of like an old monk. He didn't feel nice."
Fred snorts. "He didn't feel nice?"
Sam throws his hands in the air. "I don't know how else to describe it. It felt like he wanted to hurt us. And he sort of did. Somehow, he pressurized the whole room. I thought my eyes were going to pop out of my head." He stares at all of us. No one looks entertained by his story, let alone like we believe him. He rubs his hand down his face and glares at Juniper. "A little help here?"
"I don't know what you're talking about." Juniper says, joining the conversation for the first time. She pushes her hair out of her face. "It must have been some trick of the light combined with all that old dust in the library."
"The library?" Cas hums, stroking his chin. "Did this ghost have a really thick beard? And was it wearing heavy robes?"
"Yes!" Sam slams his hands down, practically jumping on the table.
Cas lets out a light laugh. "Oh, that's just old Flamel. He's harmless. In fact, he helped me find my way out of the library when I got lost in there as a kid. Good to know he's still floating around.
Sam's mouth drops open. "Good to know? You knew there were ghosts here and you didn't say anything?"
Rowena shrugs. "We really never had the time or need to tell you."
"Oh, that reminds me." Cas clasps his hands together. "There's a flock of pixies in one of the old classrooms. So, please don't enter any locked rooms. Those things are a pain to catch."
"It took us three weeks to find them all last time," Ro adds, as if this is a perfectly normal conversation to be having.
I blink, a thousand questions running through my mind. Mainly, what are pixies? But also, how often did they get out? Is that something Tessa and I would be doing every month? A heavy sigh escapes my lungs, and I stare at the ceiling. No, Tessa and I have much bigger things on our plate. The universe isn't going to save itself.
"I think we figured out mythic creatures were real last summer when we met the Drake," I point out to everyone. In hindsight, ghosts and pixies, whatever those are, don't seem so strange. Our lives were like a fairy tale, better to swallow that large pill now and move on. "Speaking of summer adventures, you mentioned we had a big day ahead of us?" I turn the conversation to my mentors, hoping they'll give us more information. And that they'll talk enough so I can finish my breakfast in peace. I shove some toast in my mouth before they even have a chance to deflect the conversation back to me.
Rowena frowns at my poor table manners. "Yes, well, today Cassius and I have to go to Mancika. An emergency council meeting has been called, and we can't miss it."
"I thought you two were in charge of the council." Tessa leans across the table to have a better view. "Can't you just reschedule?"
"That's the thing with emergency meetings, they tend to be time sensitive. So, no." Cas replies.
Rowena continues, "While we're gone, we can't simply leave you all to your own devices. So you'll be coming with us."
I nearly choke on my toast. Mancika? As in, the capital of the magic world? I'd seen in it pictures in some of the books Cas gave me to read last year. I probably should have done more than stare at the pictures, but it looked really cool. However, being there, sitting in on a meeting all day didn’t sound very fun. Even if it was for a magic council.
Like she's reading my thoughts, Tessa asks, "You're bringing us to Mancika so we can watch a council session?"
Rowena snorts. "Hardly. Even if you're potential future Great Wizards, council sessions are private, with very few exceptions. We have something else in mind for you."
"Going head to head with magical criminals?"
"Spying on your enemies?"
"Infiltrate an evil dark magic syndicate?"
"What? No," Rowena groans as Cassius chuckles at our responses. She elbows him in the side. "Don't encourage them." He merely rolls his eyes in response.
Their back and forth is kind of a shock. It's the first time I've seen them actually act like siblings. I didn't realize it when I first met them, but in hindsight, I was blind. The two are obviously twins. Other than their eyes, they’re identical. I wonder how that affects their work. I know I couldn't be stuck with Anna like that forever. We'd kill each other. I take a quick glimpse at Tessa out of the corner of my eye. Then again, we aren't exactly off to a great start either. I almost wish my sister was here instead, but she can't do magic.
With a sigh, Rowena explains what we're actually doing today. "We just need you to do some research for us."
A collective groan rises from everyone. They were sending us to the biggest magical city and making us do research? It seems almost cruel to send us there and then just stick us in a library all day. This is definitely busy work to keep us occupied while they get to do the important stuff.
"Now, hold on. We haven't told you what you'll be researching. I promise it's important, and it actually relates to our council meeting today. So it will be useful and valuable information." Cas's hands begin to glow and a cloud of green smoke appears above the table. Slowly a vision starts forming, becoming clearer and clearer until it reveals a news reporter standing in front of a museum. "No doubt you have heard about the recent artifact robberies occurring at several museums and private collections across the world."
Everyone nods. This had been all over the news recently, but it started over a year ago. It’s nothing new.
Tessa and I lock eyes across the table, and I'm sure we’re thinking the same thing. Are they about to tell everyone about the time decay and our role in it? I'm not sure I want that. And why would they pull us out yesterday to tell us about the doomsday countdown clock in private if they were just going to tell everyone about it today? Did they really think a day was long enough for us to adjust to that kind of news?
I chew on my bottom lip and let Cas continue. Tessa taps her fingers on the table, clearly just as anxious as me.
"We need you to sneak around Mancika and see what information you can find as to why this is happening." The vision he'd created changes to an eagle-eye view of a city, presumably Mancika.
The city is laid out in a circle, with clear roads (or are those walls?) that divide it into nine parts. The center of Mancika is an isolated smaller circle housing a few very large buildings. I didn't need to read anything about the place to understand that's the most important part, and no doubt where Cas and Ro are going for their meeting.
"So we are going on a secret mission!" Fred practically jumps up and down in his seat.
"Of a sort. If thinking that way helps you focus on the task at hand, then fine,” Ro says with a sigh. “Welcome to your first official secret mission debriefing."
We all sit up a little straighter at that. Saying it that way made this much more exciting.
Cas clears his throat in a very dramatic sort of way, making his sister roll her eyes. “Your mission, if you choose to accept it, is to discover any and all information pertaining to the disappearance of these artifacts and the corruption of the time periods they come from.
“For some reason, certain periods of time have become unstable and thus parts of history are vanishing. This may be due to natural causes in the space-time continuum, but we have reason to believe that someone or a group of people is causing this chaos and destruction, but we don’t know who.”
Ro picks up where he left off. “That’s where you kids come in. Cas and I are far too well-known and recognizable in Mancika. No one will be willing to tell us any information without fear of getting in trouble themselves. But you all are strangers and will be able to blend in with the locals and listen to any rumors relating to this issue.
“For this to work, you must maintain a low-profile. So no showing off with magic.” She gives me a pointed look. I flinch away. Last night had been an accident. Besides, I don’t think I could summon up that much magic right now even if I wanted to.
“Time is of the essence. As soon as we can put a stop to this, the better. Any questions?”
Um, yeah. About a hundred. My mouth stays shut though, and we all shake our heads.
“Perfect. Joe and Tessa, we have a few more things for you. Everyone else is dismissed. Go pack any items you think you’ll need, but keep it light. If all goes well, we’ll all be back here tonight just in time for dinner.”
All our friends get up and leave the room, chatting excitedly with each other. All the previous tension between them seems to be gone for the moment. I wonder how long that will last.
“That was a very censored version of what’s actually happening.” Tessa leans back and kicks her feet up on the table.
“That’s the point.” Ro flicks her wrist and a gust of magic sweeps Tessa’s legs back to the floor. She frantically grabs for the table, trying not to fall over, and I have to suppress a laugh. “If you want to tell them the truth, that’s a decision you two need to make. Together.”
My laughter dies in my throat. “So this whole mission is just a team building exercise?
“It has multiple purposes. We do need information on the time decay, but you two need to work on your teamwork and leadership skills.”
“Excuse you, I am a great leader.” Tessa puffs out her chest. “You saw how smoothly the Egypt operation went with me, Ari, and June.”
“Yes, but now you have more people to lead and a co-leader to collaborate with.”
I resist the urge to look at Tessa. It figures she would already have more experience than me with magic missions. I don’t know what the “Egypt operation” is, but it sounds like it went smoother than the time Fred, Sam, and I warped there. And it wasn’t even our skills that got us out. It was a cat and some luck.
“So what do you want us to do?” I ask.
Cas’ lips move into a half-smile. “It’s entirely up to you two. We’ve given you a goal, now work together to figure out the best way to achieve it.”
Tessa frowns and looks back and forth between our mentors. “You’re not going to give us any tips or advise?”
“None at all. You have an hour to prepare. Use your time wisely.”
