#i had a fire type... i had a slugma you can get as an egg in violet city

Note
Hello Professor! To make a long story very short, I have ended up with a slugma egg in my possession. Already I can feel its incredible heat growing, to the point it can barely be held with oven mitts. I have tried researching care for its species but surprise surprise, it is not the most popular choice of pet (to which I say, who wouldn’t want a portable volcano?). I realize the best course of action would be to give it to a ranger to find it a suitable home, but I’ve already developed a bond with it and am willing to put in the work it would take to raise it properly. I was wondering if you had any tips or advice, for example do any laws exist that prohibit the slugma line from inhabiting populated areas, since I imagine it wouldn’t be the safest pokemon to have around in public? Are they even able to live happily outside of well, volcanoes? Thank you very much!
The egg itself will be almost unbearable to hold, they get SUUUUUPER hot when they’re close to hatching. Once out of their protective shell, the Pokemon becomes more use to ambiently controlling its temperature. Most fire type are capable of not burning things should they not want to, the most obvious, and famous example of this is ponyta, who’s flames simply warm you should they like you’re company and trust you. This is exactly the case for your slugma. Give them time to come to you, and when they hatch get some heat proof/fire proof gloves. The first hour they’re out and about they don’t have control. It comes eventually. They’ll be able to crawl all over you without burning a thing in no time. I must warm you, this Pokemon, if not aware it’s going to get a pet or be touched, may burn you. Simply avoid this by asking them if it’s ok to touch them, or alerting them to incoming attention and love, so they can turn off the heat and not hurt you or others. This should be told to your family or friends that may interact with them too, so let folks know to not spook a fire type.
Personality wise they’re patient, and very level headed on average. They are herbivores, and will need the odd volcanic rock to goop their body over in the day. You can purchase these from any good Pokemon-pet-store. They will take trace nutrients from this rock, and should they evolve eventually, they’ll have a shell colour much like the rocks you gave them in their early years. Your Pokemon will prefer different ones, so maybe get a few small bits to test and try first, then once they know what they like, go buy a big chunk. Some specialist can carve troughs out of this rock, making a very appropriate bed, that their magma can pool in and do no damage. Think of their bed as a sink with no holes, they really do need at least a 6cm thick trough, so they can really relax. They do puddle when they sleep deeply, so make sure they don’t overfill their bed space. Some are known to test their heat on things they find, trinkets and lost items, if the item survives the flames they keep it, if not....well it’s ash now so it doesn’t matter. Keep this in mind and try to expose them to a lot of stuff. Eventually they get the idea that metal things melt, rock stuff sometimes doesn’t, wood will burn. Toys for them are tough to get, but you can get tumbled gems and rocks that roll nicely like a ball, or they do thrive with lots of little tasks to complete, so long as they have adequate nap breaks in between.
Local area leaders will know the restrictions on certain species, but as a whole having one Pokemon doesn’t tip the balance. If you aren’t breeding them then it should be just fine. Some areas advise you don’t let them go out alone, and in this case I would agree. They can startle and cause a lot of damage, potentially hurting Pokemon and people alike. Check with them for specifics, but it should be fine to have them as a partner, even in urban areas. They don’t tend to cause trouble, unless provoked to do so.
As for living outside of volcanoes, yes they can, and do, a lot! I get them munching on my lettuce crop here and we don’t have any volcanic activity near us. They are their own volcanoes, they produce their own magma core, and maintain their own temperature. They LOVE to be in volcanoes yes, but they don’t need it to be happy and healthy.
As a rule, all fire type trainers should double check their fire alarms, and test them regularly, set up a phone reminder or something to stay on top of it. I advise you buy a water based extinguisher, and a fire blanket, as well as a fire-proof apron or set of overalls. They will burn eventually, but it gives you valuable protected minutes to get to a safer position. I would also stock up on burn heals, and perhaps ask a local nurse or doctor, or even just google how to treat minor burns for humans. Research is everything when dealing with safety. I can’t say it’s never going to happen, at some point everyone gets burnt if they keep a fire type. It’s just the way it goes, BUT you can be ready for it, and avoid serious damage or issue with the correct safety items in place. Always ALWAYS think safety first, I can’t stress that enough.
Don’t be nervous, they’re hardy, and their body runs at such a heat, they don’t get a lot of sicknesses, they’re too hot to be a host for most things. They can still of course get sick but this is usually obvious in how it presents itself, and you can act fast, return the Pokemon to its ball and get it to a local doctor or nurse. They make good friends, they have loving natures, and are actually very sweet little things with a lot to offer as partners.

So I had a second attempt at a Pokémon X nuzlocke and beat it this time
For those who don't know, a nuzlocke is a self-enforced game mode of Pokémon where you can only catch the first Pokémon you encounter on a route, you must nickname them to encourage closeness, and if the Pokémon faint in battle, they are dead: you can no longer use them. I added an extra rule onto the route rule: I can catch the first Pokémon that comes from a rock smash on a route, since that's something that can rarely be done on routes anyway, and also I'm prone to killing Pokémon so I needed a fighting chance at this. With the rules sorted, we can move onto my second attempt at a nuzlocke (with my best friend Mar (@serpentine-fxrtune) beside me to help name my Pokémon and mock my dead ones with bonus friends Bread and Ariel (@catboy5000))
I played as a male named Takehiko because me, Mar, and a couple other friends have a Pokémon fan project thing going on between us and Takehiko is one of my characters who is Kalosian. When I was offered to be nicknamed Big T at the beginning of the game, I could not refuse. I picked Froakie to be my starter and already had naming issues, so I consulted Mar for a nickname. She suggested the French word for frog, and I just went with it because, yanno, Kalos is based on France. And so, I gained my first Pokémon, Grenouille. I go to route 2 and encounter the obligatory Pidgey (which doesn't count as my first encounter, I don't have any Pokéballs at this point) and sit through Serena teaching me to catch Pokémon (who btw I forgot existed in this game) by talking to Mar about something I remembered.
Me: I just wanna talk about SKZ's English names, specifically Changbin's name. Like it's normal, it's just Lewis, but CHAN TRIED TO CONVINCE HIM TO BE CALLED BARTHOLOMEW, THAT'S LIKE IF I TRIED TO GIVE BREAD AN ARABIC NAME AND CHOSE TO NAME HIM ABDUL RAHMAN, THAT'S NOT EASY TO SAY.
Me: Should I name my first Pokémon Bartholomew, for what Changbin could have been?
Mar, ever the enabler: Sure, I can't really stop you.
So I named the Weedle I caught Bartholomew, and proceeded into Santalune forest.
So we move on (and I'm just ignoring rival battles because they're just not it) and out to route 3, where I caught a Fletchling. Following on from my SKZ English names talk from earlier, I named the bird Sky, because Seungmin's English name is cute goddammit. So when I got to Santalune, I ran into a problem: I had no Pokémon that could be super effective against Viola. I head over to route 22 nearby after grabbing the roller skates to try and get Riolu for a first encounter. Instead of that, I got a Bunnelby.
Me: You are not Riolu... so you shall be named Not Riolu.
So instead of fretting over the type advantage Viola had on me, I chose to grind for higher levels to beat her Pokémon up with power instead; this is when the first casualty came in.  Sky, the poor child, got killed by a Riolu using counter because peck didn't do the job of making it faint. Sky was the first to join the graveyaed (yes this is how I spelled it in game). Sky, though you were technically not Seungmin since you were female, you will be missed.
Also forgot to mention: Batholomew is a female too. Moving on-
So after spending a long time grinding, being a bit more careful this time, I finally felt like I was ready for Viola, and I was. I swept the floor with her, Grenouille carrying the team as he was a higher level than the rest. Upon reaching Viola's sister, Alexa, before route 4, I got an exp share, and then she reminded me of what happened in my first attempt at the nuzlocke.
Me: *says a thing about something being sad*
Me and Mar, at the same time: Alexa, play Despacito.
Mar: Name the Pokémon you catch on this route Despacito.
Me: Okay *gets a Flabébé*
Future me: *pockets memory for future Flabébé*
On route 4, I encounter a Skitty, but as I mentioned earlier, I am prone to killing Pokémon and end up killing the Skitty before I could catch it, so I just make my way over to Lumiose to get a Kanto starter after beating up all the trainers on the route.
So this was my conversation with Mar about which Kanto starter to pick (I have a grudge against Ch*rmander okay), and through this I chose its name too: Zekrom 💙
Tumblr media
So on route 5 I catch a Furfrou that I nicknamed Floof because it floof and made my way to Camphier, where I went off with Shauna to get the Poké flute to get rid of the Snorlax blocking route 7. I collect the item, and on the way back I catch an Oddish that Mar named Pea for me. I got rid of the Snorlax by running the moment I interact with it - there was no way I'd fight that thing. Onto route 7, where I go into the purple flowers in hopes I get a blue Flabébé, but instead I got an orange one. Regardless of the colour, it was gonna be called Despacito.
In the connecting cave, I catch a Zubat that I named Ciel because I wanted to honour Sky by naming a bat the same thing, just Italian. I move on to route 8, where I get Shelly the Bagon, Shinju the Cubone from the Glistening Cave, and Itzy the Amaura from the fossil I got. It was on the other side of route 8 where the first of 2 rock smash Pokémon emerge, and I'm not sorry for killing the Binacle, it was Dwebble or nothing. In the Twitter thread I forgot to mention that I also caught a Helioptile that I nicknamed Frilly on route 9, but enough of that, now to Grant, the gym that killed my first Pokémon X nuzlocke...
Grant scared me a lot because of how I've always struggled to beat him even when I played normally: he's way too strong to just be a second gym leader. However, thanks to way too much grinding, I was able to beat Grant without any casualties.
So I can't remember how it happened, but at some point in route 10, Shinju died, I can't remember what caused it but it happened and ig I wasn't sad enough about it to remember. On route 10 though, I did get a Snubbull that I named Berri (Mar wanted to name it Ugli but I said No.)
So skip over Geosenge and off to route 11 and Reflective Cave, where I got Zappy the Dedenne and I then killed a Roggenrola by accident because, despite its sturdy ability, it still got hurt by Despacito's rocky helmet and fainted. Unfortunately this is where I lost 2 Pokémon. Kumi died to a Wobuffet that, idk what it did since I wasn't looking at the screen, but I'm assuming Kumi just couldn't take the counter, and fell to the same fate Sky did. Then, Itzy died too, by means I can't remember, but tbh it's me I probably did a dumb type matchup.
Either way I started making Itzy jokes to ease the pain of losing 2 Pokémon consecutively, like "maybe she just wasn't Icy, just on fire all along", and Ariel goes "perhaps she was just a wannabe... 💔".
By this point, my team consisted of Grenouille the Greninja, Zekrom the Charmeleon, Frilly the Helioptile, Despacito the Floette, Pea the Gloom, and Not Lucario the Diggersby (I renamed him from Not Riolu since it evolved).
Eventually, I get to Shalour and get the Lucario from Korrina, who I appropriately named Not DiggersB (Not Diggersby didn't fit so I improvised), and replace Not Lucario. I beat her in battle (without trying either I hadn't noticed I won until I was talking to Korrina again).
I gave up my route 12 encounter to get the Lapras the Pokémon breeder gifts you at the beginning of the route if you speak to him, and Mar named him Lettuce (because iceberg lettuce), and quickly grab myself a Tentacool from Azure Bay that I named Booze because it's water poison. It's when I'm grinding on route 12 for Ramos where I get my biggest casualty so far: Zekrom. Zekrom, the fully evolved Charizard, ready to take on the world, got killed by a Miltank that survived 2 hits from Zekrom and was able to land a bide on him.
Mar asked about Zekrom earlier because I got mocked for his death, and idc about it now but like, it hurt when it happened (yes I did threaten murder but my threats are empty, I'm not edgy I just swear a lot).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So I went and got rid of the Pokémon population of route 12 before *almost* going to Ramos. I noticed that I could go to route 13 before battling him, and it was there I could get a Slugma from the second (and final) use of the rock smash rule I had in place.
*over call*
Me: I'm gonna go take a risk and hope that I can get a Slugma on route 13 using rock smash.
Mar: Slipknot?
Me: *laughing* No, SLUGMA.
Mar: Oh, well you're naming it Slipknot now.
Needless to say, I got very lucky and got a Slugma on first encounter, and named it Slipknot. Unfortunately for me, however, catching Slipknot meant even more grinding for levels. Luckily, Courmarine is where you can get a lucky egg, which gives the holder more exp from battles, and with the use of Pokémon Amie, Slipknot caught up in no time (and evolved into Magcargo). Tbh the thing that took more time was bringing up Slipknot's affection on Pokémon Amie since you literally can't pet Slugma, which eliminates the main way to gain affection. The amount of times I played Tile Puzzle and Head It was quite a lot (never liked Berry Picker, stressful).
So I beat Ramos after pulling a risky move to protect Slipknot from Gogoat's ground move by bringing out Lapras and using ice beam to beat it. I bring the lights back to Lumiose city and go to beat Clemont, where the next big casualty happens - Not DiggersB. I had overestimated Not DiggersB's defense and lost him to an Ampharos that used thunder punch a bit too hard. This was a really bad death since I had a whole ground type in my box just sitting, waiting to be used, but nooooo, I had to used the fighting steel type with bone rush.
Not Lucario, in revenge for his counterpart, destroys Clemont's team, and we're off to Laverre. On route 14 I immediately catch a better ground type (Not a Fish the Stunfisk) and Not Lucario is relegated to the box again, the dirty HM slave. This means more grinding, passing the lucky egg over to Not a Fish, more PokéAmie, and more destruction of the Pokémon population (while also tryna level up both Pea and Despacito enough to get giga drain and moonblast respectively before evolving them into Florges and Bellossom).
To explain Pea and Despacito quickly (and Zappy too), they only evolve into their final forms when they are met with a sun stone (for Bellossom specifically and Heliolisk) and shiny stone (for Florges). I did have a sun stone but used it to evolve Helioptile int Heliolisk so I had to wait until I got to Anistar to get another sun stone, and I only got a shiny stone at the end of route 13, so I saved it until Despacito reached the right level for moonblast, then evolved it (thank you Mar for being the one who knew this info, I'm actual shit at Pokémon).
Anyway, I make it to Laverre, beat Valerie (and almost lose Pea that battle gave me a heart attack), beat up team flare in the factory, get master ball and big nugget, blah blah blah, get better clothes for Big T (which isn't much better male clothes in Pokémon is shit). I get a Foongus on route 15, consult Mar on a name because, once again, naming issues, and she names it Amanita for reasons I've honestly forgotten, and go over to Dendemille, where I redeem heart scales for better moves for Grenouille and Slipknot, and beat up more team flare.
Before I make my way over to Anistar though, I quickly go to route 16 to collect an obligatory Pumpkaboo (that I called Jack). I did (or tried to do in some cases) Pokémon Sword runs for my part of the fan project's E4 and on every file, I've caught a Pumpkaboo so it's tradition.
On route 17 I failed miserably at trying to catch a Delibird, which I wasn't upset about. I use the place to grind a bit more before I make it to Anistar. I grab the sun stone there to finally evolve Pea and just completely destroy Olympia with Grenouille.
So the game's plot "thickens" (aka Lysandre outright says he's the one in charge of team flare) so I do my protag thing, saving the world, when I have to deal with the most heartbreaking and stupid death ever.
Xerneas: *appears*
Me: Okay just master ball it.
Me: *accidentally picks quick ball*
Me: it might be okay it's the first turn anyway-
Xerneas, not expecting to battle so had moonblast ready for fun:👁👄👁  *kills Grenouille*
Me: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.
This genuinely hurt me so much I wanted to cry, I was so close to getting Grenouille through it all and he dies to a misclick?! Luckily I got Xerneas in a master ball immediately afterwards. Since it counted as it was the only Pokémon I got in Geosenge, I aptly named it "YOU KILLER".
So I grind a bit more for Xerneas and make my way over to Snowbelle. On route 18 I got a Durant that I named Ditant because I couldn't spell, then got a Sliggoo on route 19 while grabbing sludge bomb for Pea so that she, along with Despacito, can be called the fairy killer.
Tumblr media
Despacito the Dragon killer and Pea the Fairy killer honestly sounds so intimidating until you find out they're just a big flower patch and a weed, but they are scary, and can and will kill you without hesitation. I make it to Snowbelle and have to make my way to the Pokémon Village to grab Wulfric to be swept by a heavy metal band, and get myself a Trevenant I named Tree on route 20, and a Zoruark, that immediately replaced YOU KILLER in my party, from the village, and I named him Nuh. Nuh is basically the Muslim name for Noah, as in Noah's Ark Noah, so I did a grammatical joke based on that.
Nuh's Ark = the ark that belongs to Nuh
Nuh's Ark = Nuh is (Zoro)Ark
So I spend my time on route 21 accidentally killing the Ursaring I could've had and then ridding the waters of Lombré and Floatzel for Nuh using Pea. If someone had told me at the beginning of my nuzlocke that my star Pokémon would be a Bellossom, I would've laughed. After a while though, I felt ready. Pea, Despacito, Lettuce, Not a Fish, Slipknot, and Nuh (who I got a heart scale for to learn foul play) were all ready to go down Victory Road and beat the Pokémon League. On the way, I caught a Lickitung, my final Pokémon, that I named Balloon.
(I did have to leave victory road a few times because there's bits where you need to use strength, so I had to fetch Not Lucario because there was no way I was teaching any of my party a HM move this late in the game other than Lettuce learning surf and waterfall).
Going up Victory Road was a breeze (minus the multiple encounters in the caves), and I quickly made my way over to the Pokémon League. I went in, after healing my Pokémon, with an abundant amount of full restores to use freely (I had like P300k the money wasn't going anywhere).
I took on Siebold first, since he's the poetic guy and I wanted to show off Takehiko's abysmal fashion to him first. Needless to say, Pea beat him to a pulp (with Lettuce coming in clutch for his Gyrados by using thunderbolt). Siebold was by far the easiest E4 member.
Next was Wikstrom, whose Probopass had always worried me. It had sturdy, so every time Not a Fish tried to beat it, it'd just survive. Eventually, Wikstrom ran out of full restores, leading to it's untimely demise. Slipknot and Not a Fish cleared out the rest of his team easily.
I took on Malva next, who I legit didn't care about, and just had Lettuce spam surf until I beat her. It worked, of course, so that meant I only had one more battle to go: Drasna the dragon lady who, fun fact, is related to Iris, and is also therefore related to Leon and Hop!
I already knew Drasna would start with Dragalge, a danger to my dragon killer, so I sent out Not a Fish first just to get rid of it. I then sent Despacito out for her Altaria and Noivern, of which Noivern was actually able to land hits on Despacito, getting her in the yellow. Luckily for me, I had Pea learn Dazzling Gleam just in case I needed it, so I switched out Despacito for Pea when Druddigon came out, just to protect my big flower. Pea quickly handed Druddigon its ass as she beat it up without a hitch, and with that, I had finished the E4.
When I was checking if I needed to use my not so abundant amount of ethers and elixirs on my Pokémon, I was glad to find that I really only had to use it for Not a Fish's earthquake: I didn't have to use many moves against the E4, and earthquake was only down because of Wikstrom.
With my Pokémon healed up and ready, Despacito leading the party, I was ready to take on Champion Diantha. Her Hawlucha was up first, of which Despacito beat using moonblast in one fell swoop. She then went to beat up her Tyrantrum, who also fainted to a moonblast. She brought out Amourous next, aka what Itzy could've been, and Despacito used petal blizzard to beat it. The Amourous survived but didn't cause problems. I went to use petal blizzard but Diantha switched out for her Goodra, whose attack got boosted thanks to the grass type move.
Unfortunately for Diantha though, Goodra was a dragon type, so that thing fainted immediately afterwards thanks, once again, to moonblast. She brings back Amourous, who finally faints after a second bout of petal blizzard, and next up is her Gourgeist. It's at this point I finally let Despacito rest, bringing out my newly acquired Nuh, who comes out disguised as Slipknot. Nuh beats the Gourgeist in one move, meaning that Nuh's illusion is still up. Diantha brings out her final Pokémon, Gardevoir, and the battle is almost over.
I think the funniest part of the entire game for me was messing around with Nuh, because when Gardevoir used a psychic move: "It doesn't affect Slipknot..." Which is very funny considering it SHOULD affect Slipknot, it just doesn't affect Nuh, who's pretending to be Slipknot. Nuh takes the opportunity and uses foul play (as Slipknot, which also looks very peculiar) to take down Diantha's Gardevoir, and with that, I had beaten the champion. The nuzlocke was over...
Tumblr media
Or was it?
Me: *getting fussy because the other 4 Sycamore pupils were getting credit for me single-handedly beating team flare*
Mar: NOONA THERE'S STILL A BATTLE LEFT, YOU NEED TO BATTLE AZ!
Me: oH
So the nuzlocke was *almost* over.
AZ was very very easy, the only issue I had was Lettuce not being up first to beat his Torkoal. His Sigilyph and Golurk were both very easy to beat, and nothing else really happened in the battle. With that battle over I had truly beaten my second attempt at a Pokémon X nuzlocke.
If you read this far, congratulations! You have read the equivalent of 75 tweets in (possibly) one sitting! Twitter kept capping me off every 25 tweets, so now I understand why Twitter au writers don't post abundantly. This was honestly so much fun, even though I did grieve over my dead Pokémon.
I wanna thank Mar for sticking with me the whole way, even though I was such a nuisance for asking every single time, without fail, what beats poison type Pokémon whenever I encountered one. When I said I'm shit at Pokémon, I wasn't lying: I'm Very Bad™ at the game.
I also wanna thank Bread and Ariel for just popping in during my run every now and again, even if all you wanted to do was mock me for Zekrom's death (which btw I don't get why you're still holding that to me? I'm more shocked you're not talking bout Grenouille lmao).
Would also like to thank my team, Pea the Bellossom, Despacito the Florges, Not a Fish the Stunfisk, Slipknot the Magcargo, Lettuce the Lapras, and Nuh the Zoroark (who, despite being a super new addition, pulled his weight very well). I wouldn't've won of not for y'all  (Idc that they're fictional and can't read my thanks, I love them okay???).
Anywho, thank you for reading this if you chose to!

MY FIRST NUZLOCKE: DAY I’unno, 5?
Right, so I learned of a gift Pokemon you can get in Violet city, so, using the internet to figure out the apparently randomized secret password based on your trainer ID, I was able to obtain an egg containing a Slugma. Her name is Hot Goo. I spent a long time training her and she’s currently at level 24.
I wandered around as far as I could before taking on Morty, exploring, capturing, training. Turns out, from Ekrutek city, you can reach Olivine, do the light house, and reach Mahogany town and go all the way up to the lake of rage before ever even setting foot in Morty’s gym. So I did just that.  North of Mahogany, I captured a Girafarig, which I wasn’t too interested in until I realized all of Morty’s Pokemon were weak to psychic, and Girafarig’s normal typing made it immune to ghost moves. Naming the griafarig “Rig” I added it to the team. I spent a while in this area training Girafarig and the others up some. In the process, Mr.FUCK, my Eevee, evolved into an Espeon. When I was satisficed with the levels of the henchmen, we took on Morty, and, as I’d hoped, Rig absolutely demolished his ghosts.
Now with the ability to surf, I did a little backtracking to previously unreachable areas, to get some items before heading to Cianwood. However, in Olivine, I decided to wander around town and talk to NPCs. One wanted to trade a Voltorb for a Crabby. I didn’t have one, so I left. Soon after I obtained the good rod. At the beach just outside Olivine, I fished up a Crabby, captured it, and decided to trade it for the Voltorb, as I already had a water type on the team, who was named Billy. When I totally didn’t cheat and look up Chuck’s Pokemon’s levels, I decided yet more training was in order. Now with the ability to surf, I decided to go back to the lake of rage. I captured the red Gyarados, and, to my surprise, was able to take on the Rocket’s hideout (Turns out its available as soon as you have the ability to interact with the Red Gyarados) Taking on team rocket’s hideout proved to be beneficial, as the ensuing battles resulted in many levels gained, and the evolutions of both Voltorb and Croconaw. We were ready for Cianwood.
I almost lost Rig to some serious monkey business from Primape spamming its double team. It managed to land a focus punch that, shockingly, didn’t kill Rig, but left her on 3 HP. Thankfully, she moved second, and her psybeam landed, finishing off the monkey.
Poliwrath was next, and while he also managed to bring Electrode into the red, Electrode’s charge beam payed off and raised his Sp. Atk twice in a row, allowing Billy to fry the tadpole.
I now plan to do a lot of training outside the safari zone before taking on the next two gyms. Hot Goo is still under levelled compared to the rest of the team, and her only fire-type move is Ember. I don’t think she’ll be terribly useful in the steel gym. It might be time again for Mr. Needle to shine with his now-signature move, Double Kick But his stats are beginning to lack, as he is unevolved. I’ll need to train him up even more if he’s to stand a chance.

im gonna talk abt tf2 and pokemon again bc i can.
scout of course would dig fast pokémon!!! he's probably got a jolteon he loves dearly, maybe even a crobat he was given (as a zubat) in childhood. from who? eyes emoji there are faster pokémon, sure, but a lot are legendaries or bugs- and he's still trying to warm up to bugs. when/if he did, you KNOW he'd be all over ninjask or accelgor. he usually fawns over pokémon he thinks would make him look cool or fit his fight style (ie hit ur opponents the hardest first & dont get touched) but has a weak spot for some of the "cuter" ones. probably tried to lick a vanillish. as staunch a believer i am he'd be from castelia city, i like the idea that he used to be a rocket grunt, or someone who wanted to join team rocket at one point. i was trying to decide if he'd have a type preference but i like to think he's a mixed bag, mostly because every pokémon is cool and exciting to him! if you did ask & he did have to pick, it'd definitely be electric. wait, dragon, obviously... nah, fighting is good. no wa
soldier's partner is obvious! zigzagoon! mostly bc its a raccoon-like lil dude... he probably gives nicknames to every pokémon he sees, not necessarily just the ones he tries to catch. because lets face it, his zigzagoon is the ONLY pokémon that matters to him. well, that and any that catches zhanna's eye. his zigzagoon carries an everstone and is probably stupid high levelled but nobody really keeps track. soldier does initiate a lot of battles, but they're more fun when zhanna's with him too! theyre an inseperable group who probably wreak enough havoc to be considered their own team of hooligans, but who's to stop a happy couple with their adorable op pokémon? also i kinda wrote all that down super quick buuuut zigzagoon also works as a support pokémon for him when his stability gets extra rough, laying on his lap and helping to keep him grounded. he doesnt have any desire to keep more pokémon since he's fine with just 1, but if he had more i think he might get along with loudred or chatot. (chatot would DEFINITELY take some warming up to on his end but i LOVE THE THOUGHT)
pyro loves fire types of course!!! theyre probably the only one brave enough to pet their hotter ones. engineer probably made em special gloves just so they could play with their slugma... its hard to pick favorites, but the ones theyre closest to are slugma and monferno. they also have a solosis who just loves to play! unlike other people who usually just have one pokémon walking with em at all times, pyro tends to keep all three of theirs out of their pokéballs. they worry about them getting cramped or bored, and while its good exercise, sometimes its difficult to wrangle them when solosis has someones hat and slugmas melting through the furniture and monferno found spy's disguise kit.. theyre a big happy family though!! i think pyro would also like fairy types a lot, but if they got a fourth pokémon, theyd probably keep it at a daycare for the sake of themselves and the rest of the team. just in case, they might really want a sylveon or snubbull.
demoman and any pokémon knowing any explosive moves is an obvious fit! i initially liked him and electrode for this, but since part of their biology is exploding unpredictably... maybe that ones saved for battling. or at least not kept at any of the bases. i like the idea of him keeping his battle partners & normal team separate. when he's not drunk, he's a very skilled trainer and actually took a handful of gym challenges when he was younger. of course it started getting tough to balance work and training, but he never intended to get far in gyms anyway- to him it was just a fun challenge where he got to bond with his pokémon. other than his electrode, he's probably also got a charmeleon (whos either causing mischief with pyro's monferno or keeping demo company while he works/naps) and a honedge (who he will spar with sometimes). he used to have several other pokémon, but he eventually didn't like keeping them all abandoned in pc boxes, and ended up rehoming a lot of them. scout probably has a meowth from him, but he wont tell you.
heavy never cared too much about setting up huge teams or amassing a large collection. he never carries pokéballs, but his party is made up of some impressive pokémon. unlike most of the team who catch their pokémon through normal means (trade/gift, fishing, etc), he befriended his naturally. its easy to say one is ursaring, so of course im going to say it. he wont share how they met, but i wanna say he found its egg abandoned and raised it from there. they probably wrestle a lot but theyre always careful not to seriously injure each other. he befriended his mamoswine (then swinub) shortly after, then his abomasnow much later, in between him busting his family out of the gulag & leaving to find work. he left all three in siberia in the care of his family, but has a teddiursa from his ursaring to think of them all by. probably spoils the crap out of em all every chance he gets though, he loves his pokémon as much as his human family and saves recipes for poképuffs & poffins.
engineer wasn't always on board w the idea of a partner pokémon, mainly because he was always into engineering and was sure he'd be too caught up in it to focus on.. well, anything else. sure, when he was younger, he was like most kids and dreamt of being a league champion, but it always seemed to fall through.. until he discovered steel types. he started his journey later than most, but more than anything he's thankful because they help immensely with his work and lighten the load. he has a magneton who.. isn't that bright, but he's cute and thats what matters. he's also got a rotom who occasionally helps experiment with new machines, but mostly just possesses dispensers and rubs itself on everyone and everything. yum, static cling! engie didn't get into battling as much as he thought he would, but he's essentially working his dream job with his best friends (and 8 other dorks) so things are pretty good. this doesnt mean he wont go for human help when hes stumped or burnt out, though! other partner thoughts i had were torkoal, raichu and porygon2.
sniper is probably the biggest pokémon expert out of everyone on the team (well, aside from medic probably.) he's basically a walking pokédex and can tell you all about type matchups. he's also way closer to his pokémon than people realize, and especially closer than any real people. this is especially noticeable with his baby kangaskhan- although with a heavier origin than simply "abandoned", he ended up bonding with heavy over the ordeal. even with more technical aspects memorized, raising this baby was a completely new venture- not one he hated though! he also collects bug pokémon (that he lets scout get close to,when he tries to get over his fear) & has a slakoth that just kinda.. fell asleep on him one time and just never went away. other choices include koamala or krokorok.
medic is like a pokémon professor but fucked up. while he was primarily a human doctor, after losing his medical license, he started to dedicate time to studying pokémon. he doesnt run inhumane experiments on them because i said so. he's working on filling up his pokédex more than anything, and loves listening to others talk about their partners or other species theyve seen. he has his own pokémon too of course! as the team healer its only natural he has healing pokémon like audino and blissey, but he has a soft spot for flying types, specifically the birds. he has way too many pidove. he probably has a massive aviary separate from his medical lab where he keeps more birds, namely pidgeotto, fearow and some starly. he used to travel a lot (especially after being chased out of his hometown), but he saw it as more chances to discover new pokémon. probably has a very illegal form of the pokémon boxes with no storage limit. also probably heard the stories about mew and mewtwo and actually got inspired. probably owns the most pokémon merc, specifically stationery- hey, if ur getting some unethical experiment performed on you by the german guy you tried to rob earlier that night, are you going to pay more attention to his shit eating smirk or his cool ass holographic pikachu pencils??? or perhaps the cutesy eeveelutions stickers on the back of his clipboard???? thats what i thought.
spy looks like the guy who would probably be the least into pokémon, but that couldn't be further from the truth. he's not as wild as scout or medic by any means, but back in his day he was "pretty decent" (a gym leader.) i like the idea of zoroark being his partner, but you know who else is cool??? cofagrigus. gengar. banette. probably the only one on the team to actually get into mega evolving. and the only one with a shiny, but its gengar so we dont talk about that. i wont imply he loves his pokémon over his own family, he's just had a lot on his plate. remember scouts crobat? while hes got a more methodical approach to battling, he doesnt do it nearly as often as he used to. he still keeps his gym team, and though they tend to be more serious than the other pokémon in the base, they do on occasion get into trouble with others, namely pyro's solosis and scout's jolteon. not misbehaving on purpose, just being curious :0 probably uses luxury balls to catch all his pokémon and has an unused love ball with scouts moms name engraved on the bottom. (either for the novelty, or maybe hes trying to find the right one to catch for her??)

Replaying Pokemon HG
Doing an all Fire type run that started with me SR for a shiny cyndaquil. First of all, any other type would have been better bc turns out the only fire types I can get until Kanto are the secret Slugma egg, Growlithe, and Magmar. Also I had to choose growlithe or flareon bc it’s super fucking hard to get fire stones in the game. Like I had to wait until tuesday to compete in the pokeathelon and get 2500 points to buy one, and until kanto thats the only way. If you want a real challenge, Mono Fire HG is the way.
But besides all that, I think I finally get it now. This is challenging but super fucking fun! The most fun I think i’ve had with pokemon for a long time! (Besides shiny hunting.) The challenge makes me want to actually replay this game again after this! I feel like i’m accomplishing something other than destroying everything in my path with little effort. I always defended the New EXP share, but now I don’t think I can. Play older pokemon games and set challenges like Nuzlockes or Mono Type. Hell Maybe a MonoTypeLocke! You could do it in newer games sure, but it won’t be nearly as much of a challenge.

dang fighting gym leader took out half my team, my three strongest pokemon, in my soulsilver nuzlocke. i went into that fight thinking it would be a breeze, because i didnt even take a single hit against the gym trainers. i had a fearow that was like way overleveled and it just killed all their fighting types before they could even get a hit in on me. but this fucking dude.... so my flying move didnt kill his poliwrath and i was like eh thats fine i’ll get it next turn but then he used hypnosis and it fucking hit? i mean come on... come the fuck on... and so i was like welp okay i’ll switch out to my bayleef because grass beats water, you know, blah blah blah. that fucking fighting gym leader killed three of my pokemon with focus punch. focus punch. it’s a strong move, but you almost never see it actually work because it only works if the pokemon using it doesnt get hit. this should have been a joke of a fight lol. but i switched out, so i was doing nothing that turn. bam, bayleef dead. i was like fuck okay uhh maybe fearow will wake up? so i sent it back out. it didnt. welp. i sent out raticate for some stupid reason (it was actually my second highest leveled pokemon, but still), i guess thinking i would be able to attack first, but hyper fang fucking missed. it missed. bam, dead. i only managed to beat it by poisoning it with a lower leveled pokemon and then just kinda chipping away at it, hitting it with little hits so it couldnt do focus punch. that move shouldnt have beaten any of my pokemon and yet it beat three... because it put one to sleep, i switched one in (and so it couldnt do anything that turn), and the other one just... missed. god what a mess. i still have some options left but im really hurting, i really have to go back to the drawing board now. man, that sucks lol fuck this game, fuck this way to play this game. why do people do nuzlockes? this sucks lol
#dont bother reading this lol its not important#im just mad#fuck you Chuck#i have a dratini that i got from the goldenrod game corner (im allowing it because fuck you lol i want to)#and that'll help#but i cant put all my eggs in that basket because if i do and my future dragonite dies then im fucked again#i need to have three or four decent pokemon at a time... at least#and like i only have three gyms left... and the legendary and team rocket stuff....#i should be approaching a team of six by now#i have like... two or three that i plan on using currently. dratini gyarados and poliwrath#except i dont have a gyarados and a poliwrath i have a magikarp and a poliwag#so i gotta train that magikarp and i gotta do the fucking pokeathlon thing enough times until i can get a water stone#and those are both water types! ugh my coverage just sank into an abyss#i had a fire type... i had a slugma you can get as an egg in violet city#it died yesterday though#i had a zubat which would come in handy cause crobat actually rules#it died too#im not using duplicate clause for things that died though only things i still have#meaning i could still catch a zubat/golbat and use it because i currently dont have one#but on the other hand that means if i go into a new area with zubats and thats the first thing i see... im forced to get it#instead of something better. so its a double edged sword. crobat does rule though so honestly im hoping i get another zubat#preferably a golbat so i dont have to grind it. most of my stuff that has died died from grinding#sigh#im gonna stop the nuzlocke once i beat the elite four#and i'll do all of kanto non-nuzlocke-ly. i'll think of it like beating the elite four let me ''unlock'' the ability to revive pokemon haha#because honestly i just dont think it would be fun to do that whoooole thing nuzlockely#the trainers are close to you in level but none of the wild pokemon are so it would just suck to have to catch things#and defeating red would be a nightmare if i had to grind up like 30 levels in a nuzlocke run#so yeah i'll stop the nuzlocking once im done with elite 4 (the first time). i wont get any of my already dead stuff back tho#cause ive already released them. i just wont release anything that dies after ive beaten the champion lol

So, after yesterday’s crushing defeat, time to take on Lavaridge Gym!
Here’s the team!
Chickweed the Combusken | level 32 | male | Blaze | Serious, takes plenty of siestas | Flame Charge, Peck, Double Kick, Cut | starter
Agapanthus the Pelipper | level 30 | male | Keen Eye | Modest, a little quick-tempered | Water Pulse, Wing Attack, Steel Wing, Quick Attack | found route 104
Snowdrop the Mightyena | level 30 | female | Intimidate | Lonely, loves to eat | Ice Fang, Bite, Odor Sleuth, Rock Smash | found route 101
Sequoia the Gyarados | level 26 | female | Intimidate | Bashful, nods off a lot | Splash, Tackle, Bite, Dragon Rage | found route 106
Edelweiss the Skarmory | level 22 | male | Sturdy | Gentle, very finicky | Assurance, Steel Wing, Sky Drop, Fury Attack | found route 113
Moraea the Spoink | level 21 | female | Own Tempo |  Quirky, quick tempered | Psybeam, Psych Up, Confuse Ray, Magic Coat | found Jagged Pass
Moraea and Edelweiss still have a fair bit to catch up. They’ll get there!
So this’ll basically be Aggie’s last big battle! Once I get Surf, I’ll give that to Sequoia, and Edel will be my main Flyer.
Huh, an egg. I’ll pop that in the PC for later!
“I heard that an Egg was found when two Pokemon were left at the Day Care. That’s great. I’m envious. Wish I could lay an Egg...” I’M KINKSHAMING.
Ayyy a charcoal. Nice!
ON TO THE GYM. Oh yes, I remember how this one works! First up, Kindler Cole! He leads with Numel, level 23, then Slugma, also level 23. Two OHKOs for Aggie!
Oh hey, Ninja Boy Hiromichi in the water. Ew, Koffing. Level 24, Moraea is a bit under that level, but worth a crack. Yup, down to the reds, next one handles it! Good job, Moraea!
Kindler Axle has a Slugma, level 25. Aggie OHKOs it. Man, the trainers here have such attitude!
Battle Girl Sadie has a Meditite, level 26. Aggie gets to use Wing Attack instead, haha. Oh huh, it had Fire Punch. Did fuck all against Aggie, second Wing Attack takes it out.
Ace Trainer Zane leads with Slugma, level 24, then, for a change, a level 26 Kecleon! Chickweed can take this one, takes it out with Double Kick!
Kindler Andy has a Numel, level 25. Bye!
Finally, to Flannery! Gosh she is so hecking cute. She leads with Slugma, level 26. Aggie OHKOs it. Next is Torkoal, level 28. Another OHKO! Finally, Numel, level 26. Guess the fuck what, Aggie OHKOs it XD
Well that was anticlimatic lmfao. She’s so adorable <3
Ayyy it’s Brendan! GOGGLES ACQUIRED. Oh nice, an instant travel back to Petalburg. BUT FIRST, DESERT. AND IT IS... BALTOY FUCK YEAH. Just what I wanted!! Okay time to get the heck out of dodge, then switch out Moraea for my new friend, Sage!
And back to Petalburg! You know what, Norman’s strongest is level 30, Chickweed is already level 33, let’s go fight Dad!
Alright, let’s try theeee... Accuracy Room! Ace Trainer Mary has a Delcatty, level 28. Double Kick only hits twice, aww. Next round is the charm!
Hmm, Defense or Recovery... let’s go with Recovery! Ace Trainer George has Linoone, level 28. No chance for Recovery there, OHKO ;D
Next is the OHKO room oh god. Ace Trainer Berke has a Zangoose, level 28. DON’T DIE, CHICKWEED. Never mind it was the Zangoose that got OHKOed ayyyyy.
OKAY DAD TIME TO FIGHT. Not gonna go easy on you just because you’re my father~! Leads with Slaking, level 28. Oh goddammit I forgot about Yawn XD It goes down to a couple of Double Hits, and then Chickweed... falls asleep. Vigoroth next, level 28. Use an Awakening, it uses a Retaliate that hits hard, dang. Heal up, it uses Encore, it uses another Retaliate that does much less damage, and with a few kicks, it’s down! Last up, Slaking, level 30 - I’M GOING TO CALL IMPOSSIBLE RECOVERY CLAUSE. One miraculous recovery, because I am not going to have my starter die at the hands of my father. Anything else is fair game, just not this. ...Okay, Aggie, one last stand. Time to spam Water Pulse while it spams Chip Away, I guess? Oh Hyper Potion you dick. Two can play at that game! More spamming, finally down.
Dang.
Okay. Official story explanation is that Chickweed did actually get knocked out, but survived. That can totally happen XD Slaking grew up with Atsuko, you know. Slaking is absolutely not about to murder Tiny Human’s starter.
Oh hey, it’s Wally! And now I have Surf TM yeees. Thank you for your services, Agapanthus, now is the time to retire in glory! A brief trip to Mauville, haha. Who shall I bring back in for now... Milkweed? Okay! She has Mega Drain, so even if it’s not STAB, she won’t be completely helpless against Water. Would prefer a Grass- or Electric-type for STAB, but Milkweed works for now!
Onwards to route 118! First up is Aroma Lady Rose. Starts with Gloom, level 25. Chickweed chargrills. Next is Roselia, level 25, and ditto.
Guitarist Dalton leads with Magnemite, level 16. My level 35 Fire-type takes it out. Next is Whismur, level 16. Coupla kicks this time!
SURFIIIING. ...And no encounters XD Oh well, there’s land on this side!
HEY IT’S STEVEN. Oh! Right, I know this bit :D Time for a new friend! ...Who’ll be staying in a PC box, but oh well XD God can you imagine the protag's reaction to this bit. "Oh hi Steven nice to see you good chat IS THAT A LEGENDARY FUCKING POKEMON."
lmfao the grunt calling Steven ‘that rather alluring gentleman’. Alrighty Stevieboy let’s take ‘em out! Snowdrop, I think, my strongest that’s not weak to Water. Metang OHKOs Grimer, nice stuff, good Steven. Ooh that Slash hit hard. Snowdrop no don’t get into the reds. Emergency heal-up! Again, another Slash, still fine, no crit that time. Keep trying Rock Smash, I guess - STOP HITTING YOURSELF. Bringing in Sequoia briefly to ditch the Confusion - whoops, Swagger on the Metang. And then it takes out Sharpedo! Good Metang!
“I love interesting, strong dudes! That’s why I love my bro, Archie! And that’s why I’m gonna start loving you from now on, too! Next time I see you, I’ll smash you up real good, OK?” Matt you really need to work on your flirting skills.
You know what? The name I used for Latias last time still works. Rosemary!
Mega Bracelet GET. And uh, I’m gonna race back to Mauville to box Rosie, haha. Time to get a route 118 catch! And it iiiis... ...Pelipper XD DUPES CLAUSE.
IT’S AN ENTIRE HOARD OF ELECTRIKE. Finally, got down to one. She shall be named Oleracea, the species name of the Electric Daisy <3
And Chickweed evooolves!
Okay, back to Mauville - again - and switching out Milkweed for Oleracea! She’s very very underlevelled now, oh dear XD;;
Back to the route! Bird Keeper Chester leads with Swablu! Level 26. Snowdrop’s turn! Chomp chomp. Next is Swellow, level 28. Wing Attack does some damage, then Ice Fang down to the reds. UGH Double Team. You know what fine. EDEL HAS SWIFT. YOU’RE DOWN.
Another Bird Keeper, huh? Pelipper, level 29. God I miss Daisy. Snowdrop manages after a bit. Oh, for Sage or Oleracea to be high-enough...
Delinquent Miley leads with Cacnea, level 26. I am so sorry for my ten-levels-higher Fire/Fighting type. Next is Mightyena, level 28. Mine’s better! Double Kick takes it out.
Ooh, route 123! Sure :D Aroma Lady Violet has a Vileplume, level 36. Whoa shit we’re on the same level as my strongest. I might just catch a Pokemon and go XD Chickie takes it!
Ohh, the berry farm! Let’s see. 6x Sitrus, 3x Pecha, 3x Cheri, 3x Chesto, 2x Persim (only had two!), 1x Oran, 6x Leppa. That should do it!
DAZZLING GLEAM TM. YES. No Pokemon gets, but a Fairy move for Sage~!
And IIRC route 119 is really hecking long, so I will leave it here for now!
