the reason you can use ao3 tags to figure out what fics you wanna read is because you already know the characters and the basic format of the story but that just . does not work with an entirely new world with entirely new characters it just doesn’t 😭😭

#i feel like ive been bashing fanfic a lot recently im sorry dhdhfj #i really do think fanfic is wonderful for readers and writers alike #but people need to realize than fanfics and books are written differently for different reasons and it just #does not work when you treat them the same way #the entire basis of fanfiction is that You Already Know The Characters #and even if its an au all of the relationships and world events are probably going to mimic what happened in cannon to some degree #but you dont have that info with real books #and descriptions are meant to pull the reader in so they’re interested/hooked BUT DONT KNOW EVERYTHING YET #thats why just telling me ‘enemies/lovers coffee shop angst’ doesn’t do anything #bc i am going in blind and you did not tell me anything about why i might actually enjoy that #great it has enemie/lovers #is it done well? #is the pacing and writing good? #is it interesting? i wouldn’t know because you did not tell me
