So because I'm in the mood for spooky stuff I'm once again here posting an idea for a supernatural fic but this time I'm making it Hetalia (YAY LETS GO BACK TO THE ROOTS)

I came up with this like months ago (in June) when I was barely getting back into hetalia(because of PRIDE) but left it there until I realized Hey this is perfect for the season and also who I am kidding this research paper isnt getting written anytim- ANYWAY HERES MY FIC IDEA JUST AS I TOLD IT TO MY BESTFRIEND!

For reasons Italy and Germany (it's important that Japan isn't with them) are playing with sobrenatural stuff and Veneziano ends up accidentally breaking something that triggers some kind of guilt curse and becomes haunted by the ghost of HRE seeing him sneaking around and of course freaking the hell out.

It's most probably Japan's old stuff they are fucking around so it makes sense its magic/spiritual and that they want to keep it a secret. (Also guilt onis are very in tone with japanese mythology).

Italy being Italy doesn't talk with anybody about it (HE WONT DARE TOUCH THAT THEME) and just gets scared outta nowhere and whimpers and cries and is miserable to the point he isolates himself in his house.

Nobody knows what's up with him.

Nobody except Germany.

Germany of course gets worried and suspects it has something to do with they thing they did as it was then when everything started but he's not surewjy or how so he tries to reach out and eventually goes to Italy's house to drag him out himself...except...

Except when he gets there he sees a child.

And not just any child. Lol nop

He sees a child version of himself.

Germany is rightly confused.

What is a child version of himself doing there???

He tries to chase the boy but he is unable to catch him and also Italy still doesn't answer to him so he decides to keep coming both to try to talk with Italy and to figure out what's up with the kid.

And finally on one of those days he goes he hears an interesting conversation...

Roderich (Austria) and Erzebeta(Hungary) being the closest thing Italy has to guardians strong arm their way into his room (obviously Hungary is the one who does most of the work) and force him to talk to them so Italy reveals he has been seeing HREs ghost

Hungary and Austria are like 'BUT THATS IMPOSSIBLE ITALY! YOU KNOW HES..." and yeah he knows he's dead. He knows France himself killed him (Austria and Hungary looking super uncomfortable during the whole conversation) but he's there, following him and everytime Italy sees him his heart constricts and he can't bear to look at him.

Austria and Hungary get outta there believing Italy's is having some kind of late response to repressed trauma. That he's having hallucinations.

And it makes sense!

Of course they know the boy has been developing feelings for the German and they also know how much he loved HRE... It can't be easy to fall in love again after going throught something like that

And OH GOD THIS WAS LITERALLY THE FIRST TIME THEY HAD EVER ACTUALLY TALKED ABOUT HRE WITH ITALY AFTER HIS DEATH* AND FUCK THEY DONT EVEN KNOW HOW HE KNOWS HE DIED....

Of course Italy would try to find out, of course he would do his research... canonically-sh it was France who told him but italy also has his own historians and he looked into it until he couldn't anymore and FUCK THEY CANT BELIEVE THEY REALLY FELL FOR ITALYS CHEERY FACADE AND HAPPILY LET HIM DEAL WITH THAT ON HIS OWN.

THEY WERE YOUNG YES BUT THATS NOT AN EXCUSE

No wonder Italy is having issues...

Especially when taken into account that Germany...

..they never were sure... and-

NO ERZEBETH

THE PAST IS IN THE PAST.

THERES NO POINT IN DIGGING UP OLD CORPES.

HRE IS DEAD. HE WASNT THERE TO HELP HIM AND THATS ALL THERES TO IT -Roderich argues, practically screams, the guilt still gnawing him in his insides

All they can do is help Italy go through his issues now.

Germany of course only hears the last part of Italy's conversation with Hungary and Austria before he has to hide so he only learns that yes its the kid, his child self, the one that's causing Italy to suffer so much and

FUCK

Fuck

He knows

(Kinda? )

He knows he had a troubled childhood but he really wasn't expecting just the sight of him could cause Italy so much grief...

In fact... why is his child self even haunting Italy in the first place? Shouldnt he be haunting himself?

Germany tries to confront the child, he chases and chases the child and it's not until he corners him and orders the child to get away from Italy that he gets a reaction

"ITALY IS HIS!" The child screams with all his might

"He won't ever leave Italy!" and "Who does he believes he is to try to separate him from Italy?!" are some of the things the child keeps screaming

And boy Germany might not remember much of his childhood but he's pretty sure Prussia had never told him he was such a brat

But at least this brings a little more of light on the issue.

Germany isn't dumb, he knows himself.

He's aware of his... complicated feelings towards the italian. The memories of a failed valentine date coming to haunt him...

BUT

He also knows he can be a little too selfish and ambitious.

A war mongering state fully capable of starting wars just to get what he believes is his.

A fact he isn't proud of himself

Fully capable of hurting others.

A fact that causes him a lot of guilt to this day.

So, he concludes, his child self somehow became aware of his own feelings for the Italian, latched onto them and is doing what he knows best.

Chasing after the Italian. Unwavering, unstoppable. Hurting him in the meantime

But what's he's supposed to do now?

The child won't leave Italy's side.

He doesn't know how to get rid of him.

He could try distancing himself from Italy.. see if the child somehow also senses this and gets away from the italian... but he isn't sure.

But he can't think on any other option

Now Germany believes he's the one being haunted and that Italy's suffering because of him.

In the meantime Japan as all the other countries is confused as to what the heck is happening.

Suddenly his friends started acting strange with Italy locking himself in his house and Germany looking more and more stressed every day

Of course he found the broken vase in his house, the one talking about a guilt oni.

But canonically Japan doesn't remember magic was an actual everyday thing in the ancient times.

To him is just another of his many relics.

The only thing that made special this case was how well preserved it was despite it being really old, back from his young days he barely remembers

From when he was still under china's care.

But Japan doesn't have any other clue.

All he knows is his friends started acting strange after they visited his house and that the vase is somehow related so he has no choice but suck it up and go ask China.

China whos ancient and remembers everything, even the times when magic was real, immeditaely recognizes the vase and goes OH NO.

"So... Who did you say was closest to the vase when it broke?" China nervously asks.

"I don't know. I wasn't there when it broke" Japan calmly responds, unsure why that would be important. "It could be either Germany or Italy. They both were there."

China who knows he's is in front the remnants of the broken guilt oni container yelps: "Germany?! FUUUUUUUCK"

China also isn't very willing to talk about what's happening with Japan.

Talking about the jar would mean talking about magic with Japan, and THAT would mean talking about old times they both would rather ignore ever happened.

China knows this is also part of the guilt oni doing but fuuuuck he really doesn't want to talk about this.

And because the guilt oni/curse spreads like an illness, infecting everybody that's gets close with guilt and feeding from it, growing and growing until there's no more...

There's another player in this.

Prussia

Prussia who doesn't regret what he did.

Prussia, who, if he were put under the same circumstances would do it again and again. 1000 times over if it was necessary.

Prussia whose only regret is knowing it would break his little brothers heart (and maybe even more) to learn the truth

Prussia who one day comes home to find his little brother clearly trying to hide how much he's freaking out and after hours and hours of pushing and poking finally manages to get him to spill the truth

And when Prussia hears from his brothers lips that Italy is being haunted by his child self he's running out the house as if being chased by the demon himself screaming about ghosts and how super scary that is.

And don't be mistaken.

Prussia isn't a bad brother.

He's an awesome brother who will support his brother in his time of need but first....

This is too risky.

WAY TOO RISKY

As much as he loathes the idea of poor little ita chan suffering he loathes more the idea of what could happen to his brother...

No way I'm hell he was going to take that chance.

He would rather never see Italy again than to lose his brother.

If he couldn't do anything back then when he was powerful much less now than he is barely more than a mere mortal/a shadow of his former self.

And here Gilbert/Prussia is exaggerating.

As much as it would break Germany to know he wouldn't disappear, he's too solid of a state for that...

But Prussia was there.

Prussia saw the last days of HRE. He watched him agonize and no way in hell he's going throught that again.

No way in hell he's abandoning his brother. (No way in hell My boy doesn't have trauma over this)

No, Prussia will deal with this on his own.

He will fix it, just like he has done before.

He will fix it before anything happens and he will be there for his brother once all this is over.

But first he needs information

So, knowing Erzebeta and Roderich had been able to speak to ita chan, he goes and sneaks in Austria's house and has his worst fears confirmed when he hears ita chan has been hallucinating with HREs ghost.

Except now he's the only one who knows that that isn't an hallucination and that both Italy and Germany can see him.

And if Hungary catches him sneaking around and demands to know what he's doing there he will only say that that he was there to execute a surprise attack on the uptight austrian.

And Hungary tries to bring up the card of long formed warrior bonds to get him to talk about that , that that shall not be talked about and he would divert the theme and laugh to her face

Because this is something he is planning to take to his grave.

And that's what I got so far.

*it's my head canon that HREs death became something of a taboo topic in the house. Everybody knew but nobody dared to speak about it. Hungary and Austria never found the way to sit down with Italy and talk with him and Italy while he was still in Roderich's house never asked them not wanting to hear it coming from their mouths, preferring to be in negation and pretend he's still waiting for him to come back even though he knew it wasnt going to happen

Eventually the truth will have to come if they want to get rid of HREs ghost but aint no way in hell Prussia will reveal it so Italy and Germany (and others) have no choice but to face the demons of their past and discover it themselves

The whole every country has a deep seated guilt and the guilt curse will spread like an infectious illness was a nice surprise for myself.

They way it touches on everyone ...

Italy and Germany dealing with the ghost (the lover Italy lost, the reminder that Germany really know who he is and what he is capable), Austria and Hungary's not being able to save HRE nor help Italy. Japan and China having to deal with their broken relationship...

PRUSSIAS EVERYTHING.

God just thinking about Prussia also facing HREs ghost, the failure to save him, to what could happen to Germany if the truth comes out... the ANGST IS SO GOOD in this one.

Even France and Romano (and therefore Spain) could enter into the game with Romano feeling guilty with not knowing how to help Italy despite being his brother and heck even the potato dumbas seemed to know more about what was going on with his brother, as always romano being the last to know his own brother... and Spain is just there watching romano suffer knowing he's partly responsable for the distance between the Italy brothers and once Hungary and Austria learn it was France who told Italy about HREs fate they will eat him alive.

Except France won't stand for that.

1 it was centuries ago when France told Italy that! It's not his fault what's happening to Italy now and 2 Italy deserved to know! He loved him! They loved each other! He wasn't going to stand there and keep quiet for centuries just like Austria and Hungary did.

He wouldn't stand for such disservice to love .

And Frances is obviously being dragged down by the guilt of causing HREs death. France might be Prussia's best friend but i highly doubt Prussia would let him know what really happened with HRE considering the circumstances... Then again even if it hadn't been Frances fault it really is the thing Prussia is the most secretive about.

He himself could have told France that HRE died. Specially because if HRE was super weak and had too many enemies that wanted him dead it would be convenient for him to spread the rumor of his death and who better than France, who both had struck the fatal blow and was connected to every part of the world and had such a stronghold on knowledge after his revolution, to do it.

Once the truth comes out i really need a scene of Germany approaching Prussia and asking him to tell him how was he before... when he was... How was he back then?

And Prussia who has never talked about this with anyone.

Prussia who for centuries kept all that happened to himself.

A burden to never share.

Who even now that the truth is out still doesn't want to talk about it relents.

Because it's his brother who asked. And he will always do whatever Germany asks him

"Truth be told he isn't that different now from how he used to be" he says his heart breaking a little when he sees the brief glimpse of desolation crossing Germany's features.

"He isn't that different but he enough for it to matter. To be another person" Prussia ammends quickly. No way he isnt aware of Germanys identity crisis.

"He has always been serious. Too dutiful for his own good. But... he wasnt as guarded as he is now. It was easier to know what he was feeling.... Even the foot soldiers knew about his crush on little Italy" Prussia says snarking while recalling the last part

And yeah that.

Germany is really surprised to know it turns out he has loved italy his whole life... Then again if he thinks about it it isn't really that surprising. It makes sense

It makes sense even if he's now avoiding the Italian as much as he can since the truth got spilled.

Germany can't help it. He doesn't think he would be able to tolerate it if he sees disappointment in the italian eyes, yearning for a person who doesn't exist anymore.

"Try as he might he wore his heart on his sleeve... And that was part of the reason for his downfall." Prussia keeps saying, wondering not for the first time if Germany had unconciously developed the way he had as a defense mechanism. "More feisty, easily flustered."

"Unlike Germany who was a well behaved boy, HRE wouldn't listen to Prussia... Not in the sense that he would ignore him/dismiss whatever he said but rather than unlike Germany who did whatever Prussia asked him to do without question HRE would have to ponder it. HRE would have to consider all the options and act according to what he deemed best....He had to. He was the head of the empire. He was in charge of all of them... Highly capable and yet so weak. A fragile constitution" Prussia says with finality.

They were nearing on hard topics he really REALLY didn't want to talk about. The brief talk already taken it's toll on him and as much as he owe it to Germany he had already pushed himself too far in one day.

Germany understood it. They had time.

Despite Prussia's worst fears that have been proven wrong... they had time after all.

A huge relief washin over prussias entire being, the relief of putting down a burden he had carried for so long.

They could keep talking about it later

And here the mic drops.

i dont normally send asks but i came across ur blog and you have some really cool ideas when it comes to personification stuff,, ur like one of the few other ppl ive found that actually includes polandball and countryhumans in personified fandom stuff so id love to hear ur ideas abt them!! as someone with a fascination with fandom history id be down to discuss stuff more with u if u wanna

uh *checks notes* I am going to assume you mean their dynamic/hcs about each!! I’ve never delved very deeply into Countryhumans fandom history/her dynamics with the others because. Controversy but I still do have lots of ideas about her. And she is *the* quintessential Canonless G(A) fandomspirit to me, probably because she’s the first one I was part of. You get into G(A) through Hetalia, Countryhumans, or Polandball mostly and they’re the faces of the whole place so,,, very well defined House triad here.

What I do say is CH is PB and Hetalia’s conceptual daughter (her premise is kind of both of theirs mashed together) but Hetalia and the other two are separated by the Canon-Canonless divide (and the fact that he has a husband) and thus don’t talk as much. (Which is funny because his two actual sons, Fandomstuck and Socialstuck, are both Canonless.) Also, he gets into Reality more often because he has more cosplayers. But their dynamic is more like older-younger sibling, they swing back and forth between working together well (sharing headcanons and Netizens) and actually beating each other up (raids). From what I’ve seen, and I’m mostly saying this from CH’s POV, he’s more likely to start it than she is.

Both of them are a little scared of each other, PB because he has a lot of overlap with her and is the closest to seeing inside of her brain (he’s read her writing before) and is uncomfortable around it, CH because she can never tell when PB is being sarcastic and when he actually means what he says. She usually assumes he’s being serious.

Also, fandomspirits don’t get as possessive of their people as much as OTJs do, which, considering the way they feed, is probably a good thing. So they don’t fight about who gets the food; they’re content, and CH even likes receiving less because it’s made her swings less severe.

I have no idea what’s going on with her right now because I can’t check her tag and no longer use Wattpad (her Wattpad room is way more active than her AO3 room from what I remember) for personal reasons, but is the Save the Countryhumans Fandom thing still happening?

Fun fact: she’s the second fandomspirit of Countryhumans. The first one was the Country Guardian, Nadia. She got thrown into temporary leave for killing another Guardian which she felt (feels) guilty about even with most of her memories wiped.

CH’s rooms in G(A) are vandalized to hell and back. She’s used to it.

What I meant about swings: she has periods of making shipping Whatever the Hell She Wants (btw in the personifverse G(A) is technically RPF) and then periods of feeling incredibly guilty about it.

Wikipedia, Britannica and JSTOR are her favorite places.

All of her spin-offs (Statehumans, Planethumans, social media humans (subordinate of Socialstuck in the twins’ journalism business)) live in her head but can manifest bodies at will. Planethumans is the most independent one.

She’s jealous of Centricide because they get to unironically ship Nazis and Communists without people yelling at them.

Actually she’s jealous of pretty much every other G(A) member.

Physically 14 because that’s what everyone sees her people as. Russian-Brazilian, I think? Russian definitely (VK). But no one knows exactly where she came from. Also Korean. Maybe. Everyone sees something different.

Oh!! Oh!! She’s thinking about sending ambassadors to Collab Horror (where SCP lives). I’m the result. I’ve been tasked with giving her another child :) I’m trying I know I don’t talk to her a lot anymore but I still love her

I know you came here half for PB but I don’t have many headcanons about him :( he is definitely the face G(A) would most like to show to the public, and really good at art (terrible at writing) except he can’t be bothered to try mostly. (I’ve been on some of his subreddits some of the pictures are pure eye candy)

I hope this doesn’t spark an argument because I don’t want this to be the third site I kick myself out of.

Barb (my oc for hotwheels) is the estranged daughter of Dr. Tezla. Her parents divorced when she was 4 and it was only when she was 16 that she met her father again at the Highway 35 race

I ship Kendrix Tennyson wh Varian bc they work so well together I can't explain it but Varian would go for someone like her and he's the only guy she can really stand besides Albedo but that's purely platonic

Tallulah an oc I made for Monster High id part werewolf which technically makes her a monster but she can't turn into one. She doesn't even had werewolf traits she is human. Her sister on of the other hand can turn into a lycan.

In my au Lloyd's mother is not Misako but a lady named Bashira. She was frozen in stone and had Lloyd taken from her bc her village feared her son. Misako and Wu tried years to find him and that's where the first season comes up where Lloyd learns of his mom. Also bc Misako x Garmadon is so fucking BORING

Jora's dad offered the Incurseans frog legs as a sign of peace...didnt go very well but in his defense he don't know shit about aliens

Because of the shoddy way Arcee and Blackarachnia were written it motivated me to give my female OCs complicated backstories and personalities that didn't revolve around a guy or manpain

After s8 and such Lord Garmadon comes back and shacks up with Odette's family. Her sister Leilani befriends him and Garmadon may have a chance to redeem himself even if he can't access his human form anymore.

In my version of The Amazing Spiderman Gwen Stacy lives because it's my oc Vesta that gets kidnapped by Green Goblin and dies. She comes back in Homecoming as Wolf-Spider in a grand rescuing Michelle from a similar fate; reuniting with Her world's Peter but can't be with him bc she's now helping guard the multiverse from Scarlet Bitch

On plan I had for Rosslyn (my oc for alpha teebs on machines) was for her to be a clone of Mr. Lee's late wife Rosanne. But this was scrapped bc it was too obvious a twist plus I doubt Lee would clone his own wife.

Noelani was originally conceived as Chris Thorndyke's teenage sister and would replace him as the main human. I changed so much of her by then especially to distance her from that shitstain.

An idea I had for Jojo Part 9 was for Jolyne Kujo's mother (Jotaro's ex) to be the main antagonist. Her goal was to avenge Jolyne's death by leading a campaign against stand users seeing them as too dangerous, as well as plotting to wipe out the rest of the Brando family so they can't hurt anyone ever again. My main JOJO, Josephine "Josie, wouldve opposed her alongside her friend Gia Brando (Dio's granddaughter), Josuke 8 and Yasuho.

I have a himbo fetish since some of my personal f/os are himbos

CANON MONSTERFUCKING Amani is dating a Mummy Pharaoh, my self inserts date mummies, and monsters and robots yeah we having a great time

Uh- hello- i have an ask based of that writing question game but like my own i guess. So I’ve been wanting to get into writing for Hetalia for a while now, but I dont really know what to write or even when i do I dont have any motivation. So Im mostly asking how did you start writing for this fandom? And any other tips-

Oh no problem. Happy to help!

So I started writing probably like 2 and half years ago after reading a book called Fangirl in which the main character is a fanfiction author. After reading that book I was like "now I want to write fanfiction." I narrowed down what character and then what pairing I felt the most comfortable writing for. I knew from the beginning I wanted to write for England because he was my favorite character and often times in fics (at least the ones I read at the time) they would characterize him in a way that I didn't care for or outright disliked. Around this time I had just finished watching Erroneous Epilogue and was really big into GerEng (I say that as if I'm still not really big into GerEng lol) so while thinking of a pair I ended up deciding on GerEng because I didn't feel like I could write well enough for Feli or Francis (my OTPs at the time for Ludwig and Arthur respectively) and it didn’t have a lot of fics especially on Wattpad which is where I started writing fics. And then I just...started writing.

GerEng was very easy to start up with because I had some good material with the Christmas Truce and even before shipping GerEng I liked the idea of Arthur and Ludwig getting together around Christmas time and having a soccer/football match each year. So adding a bit of romance to that I was able to write my first fic and started up the GerEng One-Shot Collection (now that I’m looking, it doesn’t look like a posted that fic to ao3. Imma have to fix that). And I’ve been writing ever since. Eventually, once I came to Tumblr, I began to expand the characters and ships I covered with the help of accepting people’s prompts, but that was after I became comfortable enough with just GerEng.

So if you end up posting your fics, Wattpad is a pretty good place to start. It’s very user friendly though I rarely read fanfic on there anymore because a lot of it isn’t really my taste (plus there is not a lot of content for most rarepairs compared to ao3). Another downside is that I feel is that the way things are presented, there is more pressure to get a lot of votes/readers/commenters because they’re so clearly displayed and they literally show where you rank in a certain tag. That may be just me though. I found after moving to ao3 I didn’t care as much anymore, though that could have been because I had matured some. Ao3 is my favorite fanfic platform to post to. It has a surprising amount of content for rarepairs like GerEng. Not huge, but large enough to keep me occupied for a little while. I find writers on ao3 to be a bit more mature and more experienced with fic writing most of the time, but frankly the user base seems older compared to Wattpad (which seems to be primarily used by young teens) so it makes sense. It can be a bit overwhelming though. You have to request an invite, it took longer to get used to compared to Wattpad and so on. But it’s great once you get the hang of it.

So tips...I am in no ways an expert, but this is some things I’ve learned through writing and things that worked for me. This got kind of long so I’ll put it under the cut:

Don’t push yourself. Take breaks, take all the time you need to finish a fic. This isn’t your life and you shouldn’t feel rushed to finish. You make the deadline for it and you can push it back as many times as you need. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. (Unless your in an event. That’s a different story. But even then, don’t push yourself and plan ahead as much as you can)

Write for YOURSELF first and foremost. I started fanfiction for a rarepair I really loved and wanted to see more fanfics for. Likes, reblogs, comments, etc. are great and one of the best motivators, but I find I’m happiest with a fic if I can go back and reread it over and over again because I love it so much. Those are the fics I’m proudest of. I always write for myself first thus fic writing never feels like a chore.

Don’t take it too seriously. By this I mean don’t worry about if it sounds clunky or you aren’t describing things properly, or your grammar isn’t perfect. As a perfectionist I know this is sometimes hard for people, but I’m learning to be gentle with myself, reminding myself that I’ll be happy as long as the character interaction is cute and that it’s not like I’m being graded for this. Most people won’t care as long as they can understand what you’re saying, you break it up into paragraphs and in Hetalia fics specifically, you don’t write in the accents (ex. writing Zhe instead of The to reflect a French or German accent). After all, you shouldn’t feel stressed and you should be writing for the fun of it.

Speaking of having fun, if you find yourself stressed take a step back and try to figure out what about fic writing is stressing you out. Are you pushing yourself too hard? Then take a break and remember there is no deadline for fics regardless of what others say. If you feel short on ideas, read others fics, listen to music, come up with headcanons. There are so many ways to get ideas flowing and that list is what I find works for me. Are you trying too hard to please others? Focus back on you and what you want out of this fic. Sure consideration for your audience is good to have, but again, focusing on your own wants first usually reduces stress. Are you focusing too much on things like sentence structure, grammar, etc.? This is where most of my stress comes from most of the time especially since I’m now an English major so I need to care about this stuff for school. When that happens and I don’t know exactly how to fix it, I tell myself that this clunky or incorrect part is just one part, and most of the time I can get myself motivated again by focusing on the fluffy interactions that are usually to follow (which is what matter most to me when it comes fanfiction).

If you are worried about your grammar, technical aspects, etc. have a beta reader or someone give you feedback. Personally I never did this, but others have. I would be happy to beta read for you if you choose to do so. If you’re too nervous to reach out to others (like I am), you could also use Grammarly. They help with basic issues like comma usage, spelling, etc. and may catch mistakes you as the author don’t always pick up on or your doc program doesn’t pick up on (Google Docs’s autocorrect is not the greatest speaking from personal experience). Also, reread your fic before posting to make sure you’re saying what you want it to. So many times I go back and realize I used the wrong word in a section. Like most could probably understand what I was trying to say, but it makes me cringe every time. A lot of times Grammarly and spell/grammar check in the doc program your using won’t catch these things because they are spelled right and sort of make sense in the sentence. But don’t be too hard on yourself if this happens, this is just something I wish I knew when I was first writing fics. Plus, going back and rereading may give you new appreciation for your fic.

Your fic is not as bad as you think it is. So many times I’ll be writing a fic and think “This is horrible” “the characters are occ” “it’s clunky” etc. But then I’ll go back and reread it either in editing or after it’s been posted and I’ll be like “Holy shit this is actually one of my best fics.” That’s how I felt about “For You I’ll Try.” I literally almost didn’t finish it because I thought Arthur was ooc. Then I returned to it a few months later and realized it actually was pretty good.

Don't feel pressured by things like is this character ooc. Especially in fandoms like Hetalia where a lot of traits are left to be filled in or molded by fan headcanons, it's hard to make a character ooc. Even though I hate on 2012 fanon Arthur, I still strongly believe that those fic writers can write Arthur that way if they want. I just personally don't like it and rant about it to people who have similar opinions as me. At the end of the day these are fictional characters that you get to play with and mold as you see fit.

Handle serious topics carefully. Mental health, historical events, etc. should be researched and written with care. Even with the best intentions, things can go wrong, so sometimes it’s best just to steer clear of those topics entirely (like I do with WW2). If you really wanted to, there is always the option of writing it, but never sharing it publicly.

Write down whatever ideas pop into your head or that you’ve found around you. This is advice I got at university when it came to composition. Write down quotes, phrases, plot points, whatever comes your way that may act as inspiration for a fic. You may use it right away, later or never. But it’s best to get it down so it’s there. It really helps if you don’t have the motivation to write and it’s a laidback way to keep your creativity flowing without consuming a lot of time. Also outlines. Outlines help when I don’t have the motivation to write out a full blow fic, but I have a lot of ideas I want to write.

Talk to people. Not always the easiest or necessary, but a lot of my fics were inspired by aus or headcanons I’ve discussed with others. For example, my Vampire, Werewolf and Merman au which is basically my baby at this point was inspired a lot by my discussion with Lycuriz. I don’t know if it would have become as expansive as it is if it wasn’t for those discussions between Lycuriz and myself. I would be happy to do this with you if you would want or the GerEng server would also be a good place if you want to talk to others.

And that’s all I think. These won’t work for everyone of course, but they have helped myself and others and hopefully they can help you too as well as others who see this.

That being said, I must say that I don't have nearly as many thoughts on Malaysia as Singapore, but here's what I can think of so far:

There is a canon Malaysia, I believe, but he’s a man and I’m sick of men in hetalia so I’m really sorry if that’s what you wanted. 😭 The Malaysia I have in my mind is pretty much entirely lifted from this one fic, Nigh Comes The Tide, which I highly highly recommend. She's a young woman of slightly short stature (maybe 158?) but she packs a punch in a small body. She's tough, fierce and knows what she wants, but hides it behind a generally warm, compassionate personality. She's easy to talk to, but not easy to get close to, and I think people who try often feel that she has her guard up, even though she hasn't done anything rude or cold.

Part of this is because Malaysia has had a tough run with colonialists (i mean, who hasn't though). Her first prolonged contact with the Europeans, as the Kingdom of Malacca, was with Portugal. Because of a myriad of factors (Portuguese influence was relatively "light" and trade based, Malaysia was young and naive, Portugal can spit all kinds of sweet bs when he wants to) he became her first serious romantic interest. But it ended badly, as it was bound to do. The callous way Port treated her (see aforementioned fic) definitely contributed to Malaysia's current guarded nature: when she was younger, she was far more forthright with her feelings, a girl who wore her heart on her sleeve. She doesn't get attached easily, but when she does she falls hard. In mandarin there's a phrase called ren qing, which roughly translates to someone who "recognizes emotion" or "acknowledges history" (as in personal history with someone, not political history). That's the kind of person she is -- despite her best efforts she's someone who can't betray her own feelings and honours personal ties and past attachments with friends and family, even if that emotional closeness no longer exists.

This is the reason I believe she still maintains an OK relationship with Netherlands, the next European power to dominate the Malaysian area. The Dutch East Company ruled relatively lightly as well, and the fact that the Dutch had driven out the Portuguese and that Ned treated her with relative respect (more like disinterest, in reality, though she was okay with that) helped sustain a working relationship. They don't really talk to each other anymore, but if they ever needed a "contact" in each other's areas there's a shared acknowledgement that they go some ways back.

England is actually the one Malaysia is closest to, which is ironic because he's also the one Malaysia has the most issues with. She has infinite opinions on British colonization and the British empire, though you'll need to be pretty good friends with her to hear the whole tirade. Despite this, she and Arthur rarely had an openly antagonistic relationship with yelling and crying the way she did with Port, mostly due to the fact that by the time she came under British rule, both her and Arthur were older and more experienced with such things. Because they're relatively close in age, they also had a more professional than familial relationship. Nowadays Malaysia's friends are sometimes surprised to see her talk uncharacteristically bluntly, or even sass Arthur, but its a sign that they're used to each other. TLDR: they dont have the fluffiest relationship in the Commonwealth, but they have a knowing familiarity that only comes from working closely with someone for decades.

when I started shipping it.

Maybe a year to two years ago? It’s hard to say I can’t really remember. I don’t know what sparked it, but either way I know it started with my friend Lemon. Either we were doing things with the BFT and I had made a joke about baby BFT with Romano, Germany and Canada and it just developed discussions from there. Or it was me struggling between the three proponent ships and Lemon being like ‘why don’t you just make them a poly’ and like sun coming out from behind the clouds it finally dawned on me by the power of citrus. Either way it was something I kept messing with, and the more I talked about it the more people hopped on board with me. We’re still just a raft in a sea of ships but I made this baby and I’m proud of it.

I will say I have had a lot of people talk to me like I made it, and while I do want to take some credit cause I put a lot of time into them, I have heard it used to be a ship back in the old hetalia days. But I haven’t found any old fanworks of it. And trust me I scoured every fic and art site I could think of. Maybe it was something only seen in RP groups so it never got published fic or art but I crave content for it so if it was originally a thing and there’s content around let me know please I don’t wanna take credit for it fully but I have not found another person who shipped it before they talked to me.

my thoughts:

Literally some of the only serotonin I get in these trying times. I love them so much they make me so happy. An unbelievably strong power house trio who could do damn near about anything together. They have it all.

I could go on for hours about small scenarios or aus with them. Like I’m a multi-shipper but fuck man they’re my OTP. I can and do ship other things with them, but man they make me melt with joy.

What makes me happy about them:

Literally everything. Their characters, the dynamics, the growth they create together. They may not work in every story of mine but when they work they really work. They push each member of the ship to grow as a person. Germany finding support he may not have originally had, Canada finding the confidence and support in a group that won’t forget him, Romano finally feeling safe enough to open up to others in a way he didn’t feel safe doing before. It’s just the good fucking food. You can put it in different settings and it just works, they’re able to play off one another in a really great way and pull them out of their comfort zones in ways that other ships don’t hit me as hard with.

What makes me sad about them:

That I am literally one of the only people who makes content for it. I have scoured the internet I can’t find anything, ANYTHING. And often I cannot get people to follow me on it, I’ve been getting more people on board slowly but surely but STILL-- That or they really try to push the whole ‘i ship it with (ship thats similar but with one of the brothers swapped out for the other)’ on me when I’m talking about it and I’m just like. I asked for GerCanMano I didn’t ask for your opinion. I’ve thought about the other ship conbo’s with their other brothers, I just like this one the best.

Things done in fanfic that annoys me:

When this ship is treated as a lesser to other ships around the three characters. People going like well I think it would be better if it was ‘swaps one of the brothers out for the other’ but that’s not the point. Also this is a general problem I have with Germano/GerCan as well but people making it all about their family’s or brothers reactions and how it effects their brothers instead of their relationship. ESPECIALLY between Romano and Italy.

It’s almost always a cheating on their ‘true love’ or some sort of affair fic and it doesn’t focus on their love and living together and more about them bouncing around to avoid getting caught and I just don’t care enough. I just want to see them in a loving happy relationship, and interacting with one another. Prussia, America’s and ESPECIALLY Italy’s reactions don’t matter to me. When it comes to say GerIta fics, there are a few that address Romano’s feelings toward Italy’s relationship, but not all of them. Hell some of them don’t have a mention or hair of Romano, but when the position is reversed with Germano suddenly even if he’s not in the fic it’s all about how Italy feels about it or how it effects him or hiding it from him.

I dont want to watch Germany go back and forth about which Italy brother he likes while dating both. It’s one just not in character and two its uncomfortable. I read this fic for the gercanmano Im not here to hear that Germany’s cheating on and warring with his feelings toward Italy or Canada sleeping around behind Prussia’s back. It’s boring and I’m tired of reading it. I’m digging into specifics of the three component ships cause there are no fanfics of GerCanMano so I can’t talk about what annoys in their base fics.

I had like one person write GerCanMano into their RusPrus fic, which was cool. but then they were a nazi apologist. So I can’t exactly read it anymore. I have nothing else to compare to but the base three ships of Germano, GerCan and Canmano

Things I look for in fanfic I don’t ask much I just want them to exist without me having to write all of them. I wanna find content other people have made, not that I’m lazy and think peopel should make content for me, just that I get bored of reading my own writing. If I wanna be really picky, letting it be a quickly established relationship and getting to see them in the relationship, learning about each other living together dealing with problems together that doesn’t just have them break up after one fight.

Having them in a functioning relationship before the story is over. Letting that relationship blossom past the start or the first date before the fic is finished. It’s sad when a romance story ends with them getting together cause there’s so much more relationship to have-- ;^; what about cooking together and cuddles on the couch and date nights and small fights and family gatherings--

My happily ever after for them:

It’s hard to write a happily ever after for nations or for anything to be honest cause life keeps going, growing, changing etc. But I’d love them to have a wedding and just a calm, slice of life kind of life together. A nice house, a big garden, a pond in the back where in the winter Germany and Canada can ice skate. A nice big garage where Germany and Romano can work on cars, Maybe near the woods so they can all go hiking,

Nothing fancy. A nice place that smells like warm coffee in the morning, that’s lively with sound of loved ones and shenanigans during the day and quiet whispers of affection at night. They get together but meetings are less boring, they have plans with their family and friends. Spain, France and Prussia loving to tease their little siblings/kids about things and make sure they’re doing okay. Veneziano always trying to help Romano come up with romantic shenanigans to use against his husbands. America just being happy his bro is happy.

when I started shipping it if I did: ...im going to be completely honest, im new to atla, but not new to tumblr. i actually had a large tumblr that i made when i was fourteen that was dedicated to hetalia. but over the years i got bored of it, so i stopped updating it, i only looked at the blogs i followed and then one day, someone reblogged some zukka fanart, and i loved it. i knew nothing of the characters, but from the looks of each of them and how it followed the classic red-blue gays and representation that i craved as a young lesbian i decided to give it a watch, still in love with a ship i knew nothing about, so imagine my whiplash that i got when they were two people who weren't even friends until the final season, but i never got discoaurged because of all the tension and the parellels and how if either of them were female-male i definitely felt that zukka would be canon and have so much more hype.

my thoughts: im not the best at describing why i love them, but ill try. i love zukka for a lot of reasons, but mostly because... for me relationships are a partnership, you both get benefits from it where you can rely on eachother, where there is a mutual understanding between each other to the point where you know exactly what your lover needs to hear... and sometimes, no matter the mood your in, they are the only ones who can truly make you happy, and thats what i get from zukka. sokka is very much the older sibling, he goes so underappreciated for so long that when piandao tells him he should be proud of who he is and what he can do... he just doesn't believe him. now, this isnt the fault of katara, aang or anyone else, maybe a little bit hakodas fault i mean he literally left a kid with such high expectations of himself to protect the village by himself with what limited training that he had. even when they listen to his ideas, some of which are very much right but have failed to no fault of sokka like walking because appa is too noticable, katara or someone else pokes fun to these ideas for failing miserable, which they may mean in jest, but can still really hurt, so he needs someone to encourage him that sure, maybe this idea has failed, but its just a learning experience. zuko... my god he has trauma. zuko was this sweet and kind and passionate kid born into an environment where he didnt belong and he was abused for everything that he was. ursa while was a safe haven didnt do enough to protect him, as she too was powerless. his sister turned from this sweet and kind sister to someone who quickly realised that being that way makes it impossible to survive so she began to tease and taunt and turn into a mirror of their abuser. while id like to think lu ten was there for the both of them, iroh and lu ten where getting ready for the siege so they were rather busy... and azulon actively wished that ozai kill him, and ozai, fucking ozai man, is there anything else left to be said? once ursa left... everything when down and he was burned and banished for his wish to protect his people. iroh... for all my love of iroh, he doesnt understand zukos intentions or actions, he thinks hes lost his way but... he doesnt see that zuko doesnt want to hunt the avatar, he doesnt want to stay at the tea shop, what he wants is to be home. hes not safe in the watertribes, not safe in the earth kingdom and while he isnt truly safe at home, its his nostalgia(?) and how everything hes used to is at home, its where his mother memory lives... its where his the remnants of his past relationship with azula and where his baby sister is... its as safe as a home they could get. he knows people doesnt like him and he while isnt okay with it, nothing matters more than getting home. which isnt a good reason for his literally capturing of a twelve year olds, fourteen year old and fifteen year olds, but... it is for him, hes sixteen, still a kid, like the one hes chasing and he doesnt realize that the home he hopes for isnt what he thinks it is, at least not anymore. that his father doesnt love him, that his sister is no longer the sweet kid that she used to be and she too was abused, that his mum is no longer around anymore and he doesnt have a happy life or a happy family. he repeatedly doesnt listen to iroh because iroh doesnt get it. iroh grew up loved and cherished and praise while zuko doesnt, he grows up hated with no chance of change, he... is very much an asshole and doesnt listen to anyone, but hes trying in season 3. and then... the boiling rock happens. my god, its... like my favourite episodes. sokka feels like he has to go alone because he felt like he failed, its his responsiblity, it was his mistake despite the fact that it wasnt, that there were many, many adults who it the fault could fall onto, and the fact that the odds were stacked against them completely, but sokka being who he is, still feels responsible, but wants to go alone. except, zuko wont let him, he understands sokka, because thats what hes felt like his whole life. hes

always felt like a failure, not being able to protect his sister, not being able to protect himself so he knows what sokka is going to do, and, forces himself onto the journey. its awkward, at first, because of course it is i mean this is the guy who was chasing you for half a year and was inadvertidely responsible to two of your closest friends deaths/near-deaths. but once they get past this awkwardness, the banter very much starts when they land. and zuko. zuko who never asked for someones opinion, looks to sokka for guidance and listens and encourages sokka. for me boiling rock is peak sokka for how well he plans. sokka is able to express himself and talk and give advice and when his plan fails, zuko is there to help him through it and see it with a different perspective, and they just... the trust, its there. its already there despite how much it shouldnt be. it just works so well and then sokka defends zuko to hakoda and finally hakoda tells him what he should of and... its up from there. they are just there for each other and its... wonderful. they are both absolutely miserable people but... they make each other happy. it happens so fastly too and its just absolutely wonderful.

What makes me happy about them: honestly, i just wrote what makes me happy about them and how much i love them in the above question.

What makes me sad about them: god. how complicated it will be in the actual universe and how they will have to spend most of their lives seperate from each other. ive mentioned before that im a romantic at heart and it hurts, because despite how realistic it will be to have them seperated for most of their early religion, i mean... zuko will have to stay in the firenation despite how much it isnt home for him anymore and sokka is able to move from the southern watertribe to the northern air temple and to the firenation... so id like to think that when izumi comes around, the soon travel together, as by the time izumi is around, things are getting settled and zuko doesnt need such a close eye on everything.

things done in fanfic that annoys me: listen... i dont have anything that really annoys me, except when they play into babified(?) versions of each other, (zuko beng too soft-boy and sokka... being to "daddy" if thats the correct word.) but what bothers me is the lack of sokka-comfort, all of them have trauma. sokka, too. i love zuko. hes... just my favourite/comfort character and someone who i relate to so much, hes just... ive never related to someone more than zuko, but zukka is a more mutual relationship than anything, and i wish we had more fics dealing with sokkas trauma too.

things I look for in fanfic:

Who I’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other: okay, okay, okay, for zuko, i have many, i just think zuko and sokka both have extreme pretty boy privilege, and while zuko doesnt realize the effortless charm and how pretty he is, sokka most definitely does and uses it to his advantage. so... maiko, jinko, (platonic/relationship) zutara, jetko and sukka. listen. i love yue and sokkas relationship, but they had such a short time together that i could never really ship them. i think sokka mourns her and it is very valid for doing so but i always felt that he mourned his friend and what their relationship could of grown into. also i am a diehard yueki fan.

My happily ever after for them: that they grow hold together, and are able to see their children, (yes, i said children, as in izumi, varrick and senna with trans!zuko) grow and change the world and have their own families.

who is the big spoon/little spoon: dude. dude i dont know. i want them both to be held. i want both little spoon zukka and big spoon zukka. weighted blanket zukka. all zukka sleeping positions. i like to think that like me the both of them cannot stay still while they sleep, they wake up in each others arms but end up at the foot of the bed or something.

what is their favorite non-sexual activity: god... everything, picnics, roadtrips, reading together, stargazing, sharing letters... just as long as they are their together everything is their favourite activity as they spent most of their youth and twenties and possibliy early thirties separate from each other.

lithuania and romano ramblings under the cut, this time in How Do They Love?

something that’s sort of attractive to me about lithuania and romano (both as individuals and in a shipping context) is that they both love in a bit of a masochistic way, and i think that’s really relatable. lithuania’s a bit textbook, always at the service of their loved ones and not knowing when to prioritize themself, and they really struggle to accept others’ flaws- ESPECIALLY if they love soemone. its not even that they can’t see people’s toxic traits, they just sort of can’t accept how bad those toxic traits are. they’re aware that some people close to them are able to hurt them, and they know theyre suffering for it, but there’s a disconnect that keeps them from leaving toxic relationships. i think that’s one reason why lithuania is such an interesting character, even if that’s not 100% historically accurate (im not lithuanian so idrk but i do think their anxiety is somewhat accurate? i think most of it is like. russian empire/ussr based but you could trace the cultural anxiety back to the polish lithuanian commonwealth). they want to trust people but it just so happens that they can’t. anyway then you have romano who’s also super down to love people with his whole heart, but who’s been fucked one too many times to be willing to give love easily. probably due to a combo of daddy issues relating to rome, plus spanish rule, plus the whole north/south cultural divide- he doesn’t feel he can trust people with his love anymore, but boy does he have a lot of it. plus theres the whole catholic guilt aspect, and it’s just so hard for him to be able to trust people. i think theres an argument to be made that he doesnt even fully trust spain, let alone veneziano (which, i really need to make a post about that relationship because its highkey the most interesting in hetalia, imo). and he just. feels so deeply about the people he loves, like he’s sticking with spain forever despite the fact that he can never really be sure that spain sees him as an equal. its full of uncertainty and though they understand each other extremely well, there’s a bit of stability to be desired. and with his brother..you have to love your brother, he’s family, so if you don’t love him then you’re a bad person, and romano’s not quite sure he does love veneziano the right amount. and he also loves in a way that hurts him, though it’s not quite as immediate as loving someone who actually physically hurts you, or who poses a threat to your culture and language (modern lithuanian is the oldest surviving european language, and it’s one of the closest european languages to the indic languages). anyway i think they could love each other in a way that’s kind of healthier for the both of them, platonically or romantically. because romano, despite his prickly tendencies, doesn’t actually hate as many people as he says he does. i dont think hate comes very naturally to him. and lithuania’s just. so honest in all their faults? they’re so hard for him to hate, even if they are annoying sometimes. anyway those are all my thoughts for now, take care luvs <3

Building off 2 other anons, I'd like to add my 2 cents if you're still taking advice and if not feel free to just delete this.

Most of your characters feel more like OCs than Germany alts, but while to me that makes a lot of sense since say if I were to meet a version of me that was born and raised in a different world completely different from my own, he would have a pretty different personality, depending on your theories of nature vs nurture when it comes to building a personality.

But because a lot of the alts feel like OCs (like I would not have thought Aster or Theobold to be versions of Germany if not for the name qnd description of your blog, while siren Germany and LT are more obvious as versions of Germany), sometimes people just don't know how to interact with them. While some OC blogs take off in the fandom, it's usually historical hetalia blogs or blogs that used to be for cqnon characters but were turned into OCs later because the artist left the fandom but still liked their muse.

IMO this isn't a bad thing, it's just one thing that might add an uphill battle for interactions and fan involvement, so I like the ideas of showing more Germany and Lutz to help out on that front.

I agree it's hard to know your audience, and while Tumblr has the set-up to be the best site for interaction, it just isn't for several factors I'm sure people who've been here longer and know about trends more can say better than I can. And as a fellow ace, I get being uncomfortable with the simping thing and want to say don't push yourself in that direction if it makes you uncomfortable.

By what I've seen with blogs that have come and gone, I usually saw the best interaction on blogs that leaned into humour and historical/cultural blogs. For more plot-heavy or backstory-heavy blogs, I usually saw them as part of collaborative AUs, where they helped each other by sending each other questions or interacting with each other, which got people to ask more about what would happen. Independent AU plot-driven blogs usually struggle, from what I've seen.

For this one blog, whose not in the Hetalia fandom anymore but most people knew their PH as being a hws OC before they left the fandom a good while back, I've seen them take questions from Facebook, so they've been cross-posting there. I've also seen people cross-post on DA, taking questions from the comments there as well as Tumblr. I haven't seen people do it with IG or Twitter, but I stayed away from the fandom on those apps even before the more recent drama.

So I rambled a lot, I'm sorry, but here's my bullet points.

- More Lud and Lutz as others said

- AU blogs aren't always popular, which there unfortunately isn't a fix for. It's more information to remember that interaction will unfortunately be lower than you hope BUT

- Cross-posting elsewhere can help get more eyes, and it gives you a good idea on where people are more likely to engage. Just a heads-up that you'd have to figure out how to change up the format for each site.

Good luck, and I hope your muses can find the love they deserve!

The weirdest thing is I always saw the opposite (aus being more popular), but I could never stand historical hetalia so I probably have blinders on in that regard. Nor can it really be helped because I'm not here for gritty IRL history. Not like I can't touch on it but it's just not my forte I like the AU side of the community I just find it more fun.

I don't have anywhere else to cross post, I'm not using twitter, I have an Insta but the whole problem is that most sites other than tumblr dont let you view things in chronological order anymore. So I feel like it would only cause even more confusion. I only really use discord and tumblr. Maybe I could try making one of those ask blog discord a lot of people have? Meh.. who knows.

A lot of people are saying the number of characters is intimidating and at this point I'm very tempted to cut the cast down, I'll see what happens at this point.

tws for talk of racism, eugen/cs, n*zis, slavery, genocide, etc. read at your own risk but please be aware this message is important. so this isnt specifically related to hetagames but its related to hetalia and i think its important that everyone hear it again just to be sure. im going to shelve my rabid persona for a minute because this is super important and a super serious thing.

making hetalia OCs or 2ps or personifying characters based off of problematic time periods from their history is not okay.

some examples include: -n*zi germany this is so wrong for so many obvious reasons everyone should know by now but for the sake of the post im gonna go into detail a lilbit. so many people were killed and both physically and mentally tortured during this time period, a large group being jewish people. during this time period german schools taught eugen/cs to their children which was a h i g l y racist concept. n*zis basically hated everyone that wasnt a blonde blue eyed ‘pure blood’ german. everyone else deserved to die according to them, and thats just.... not something that you make an anime boy about? like no. please. -civil war era america/the confederacy/the confederate states of america this one some people seem to think is okay for??? some goddamn reason??? no??? okay i know a lot of non-americans might not understand what exactly the civil war was so here we go heres a very watered down explanation. once upon a time there was slavery in america. we all know that. but at one point the public opinion shifted to thinking ‘hmm, maybe slavery is actually really fukin gross and bad? hey lets pass a law to ban slavery.’ and the southern states went ‘wait no we like slavery.’ and they went and said ‘this law would violate our constitutional right to states rights. we should be able to choose whether or not each state has laws against slavery!’ which is bs by the way they just wanted to keep owning slaves but they called it a violation of states rights so they could start a war over this shit. so then the south decided to form the confederacy and then they declared war on the north to try and break away n have their ‘right’ to own slaves. by the way this wasnt just a buncha racists fighting for their right to own people a lot of them also made their slaves fight in the war. so black people were being forced to fight for their own enslavement. lovely. spoiler alert they lost hella bad and the emancipation proclamation was signed which helped pave the way for black people to be free. the confederacy through its entire short life stood for nothing but slavery and racism and that is n o t something that its okay to make an anime boy out of okay please stop this.

-Communist Russia okay look. look. stop what youre going to say and read this. okay? okay. yes i know himaruya kind of wrote about this already. no that does not make it okay. hes human just like anyone else and hes realized his problems and faults and doesnt write that shit anymore. and even if he hadnt thats no excuse. even if he had kept making it that wouldnt make it okay. creators arent perfect and everything they do isnt automatically moral. popular people do stupid insensitive shit all the time and they have to be held accountable for it. anyway if you really need to be told why communist russia isnt good ‘uwu anime boy’ fodder then you really need to read a history book. but in short; genocide. mass starvation of their own people. imperialism. etc. bad shit. lets not.

-Mafia AU Romano okay this isnt really a time period perse but it felt like it belonged on the list so i put it on. its my list i can add what i want. so anyway ive seen southern italian people express blatant discomfort with this before, and from what i remember it stems from both racism and classism to a certain extend and thats just.... uncomfy. i get the appeal of a mafia au ok some people find crime hot but if its blatantly making people uncomfortable then id suggest you stop. other peoples comfort is more important than your fanfic. just make some generic crime lord au or summ instead idk it dont have to be the mafia all the time an it dont have to be romano all the time. if anyone who has a better feel for this wants to expand on it be my guest.

anyway im sure theres many more but these are the things i see the most. feel free to rb and add your own “please dont”s to the list. an before anyone gets on me about “why is this stuff bad but things like ancient rome arent” look ancient rome did about as much bad shit as england did but we dont all cancel mister arthur monster brows do we? the difference is these examples are narrowing a character down to one specific problematic period of their history (or in the case of the mafia thing one single small problematic part of the countrys history) and ancient rome represents the entirety of the countrys existance which did more than just imperialism and murder and shit. ok mun lei out now.

1. Nagito Komaeda (Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair)

I love him so much guys like seriously i love him. He was the most interesting character to me in sdr2 and i just. think abt him a lot. he’s fun and a little unpredictable and best of all, in that sweet moral grey territory! also he’s great meme fodder

2. Roxy Lalonde (Homestuck)

Roxy is a huge comfort character !! and she’s the only thing about homestuck that matters anymore. sorry guys homestuck is cancelled there is only roxy. not to be one of those people but roxy Was the best person out of her friend group and she just worked So Hard to keep that group from falling apart and she’s, in general, very strong! i love and respect her.

3. Wheatley (Portal 2)

this man is the reason i am constantly having to restrain myself from replaying portal 2 for the millionth time (among other reasons). he is so unbelievably funny to me in every way shape and form and i just adore him. he PERFECTED the moron character type. hes just so fucking stupid!!!!! how brave!!!!!! also i think him being a twist villain is hilarious and innovative. anyway PLAY PORTAL 2

4. Mettaton (Undertale)

its about the DRAMA. about the ENTERTAINMENT VALUE. and most important. its about YOU, DARLING! hes so extra and that’s his best trait. hes the funniest character in undertale character to me, too. and, honestly, i just lose it over characters with that much ego and drama. deadass i have replayed undertale 2-3 times JUST to fight him again.

5. (Nyo) America (Hetalia)

I’m counting them as one bc its my list and i get to say so. theyre just!! very positive!! and very stupid!! and i think that’s very cool. also its about the Nostalgia.

6. Alex Kralie (Marble Hornets)

now That’s what i call versatility! im limiting myself to one mh character for this list, and it was tough, but in the end alex won out because he does So Much. he’s easily The Funniest character in the series, easily the most quoted, but at the same time probably the most intimidating. also he has some killer monologues and god knows i lose it over a good monologue. i also think that his character remains interesting, even upon closer inspection. you can feel bad for him while also not liking him as a person and i think that’s neat.

7. Bill Cipher (Gravity Falls)

its basic bitch hours babey!!! he’s evil and he’s having the time of his life being so. i like the way he talks, the aesthetic, the complete lack of emotion driven motivation. he’s just good fun!

8. Gundham Tanaka (Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair)

this man made me CRY. REAL TEARS. i love him. he has THE BEST quotes, in that they are absolutely nonsensical and appeal so much to my affinity for drama. he doesnt drop that whole “supreme overlord of ice” thing ever. NEVER. not even when the killing game gets intense. what a legend!! also did i mention he has four hamsters living in his scarf? who he loves and cares for even when he’s mean to pretty much everyone else? @ gundham i love you <3

9. Mercy (Overwatch)

i like a lot of characters in overwatch, perhaps more than her, but also i have 110 hours on her and legally she has to be the one i pick. i do like her a lot though!! she’s positive, mostly, until she’s sick of that and she decides to bitch. very relatable. also shes really pretty.

10. Aziraphale (Good Omens)

a complex relationship with those in power? an affinity for old clothes? an obnoxious vocabulary? talk about reliability! i like aziraphale’s character development a whole lot bc i feel like its something i personally cant recall seeing a lot of. also!! hes just such an aesthetic. please make az fell and co a real store i wanna go :(
