Songs I'd give to Lucy if she was a Kpop soloist and why:

title is self explanatory and some of these might just be based on vibes and sound rather than as a whole but I tried to keep it also based on the general dance/performance and lyrically aswell. idk this is just for fun because ive thought about this a bit lol ALSO i tried to keep these as soloist songs but i think a lot of group songs fit her so most of them are just group songs lol

ALSO a lot of these are nalu based but thats unavoidable because theyre very intertwined lmao

also also this ended being a longer post than i expected and i dont think anyones gonna read everything but yeah

I mean first of all the title is LITERALLY called Heroine like... come on. This song for me is very nalu core like whenever i hear this song the lyrics scream nalu from a Lucy POV, for me anyway. Mostly the lyrics about a hero, lucy herself has agreed that natsu is kinda like her hero in the RAVE x FT crossover little comic if you didn't know. I would said the sound kinda fits lucy its not too brooding but not too crazy and hyper and its a good middle ground that I think would suit her :)

POP! by Nayeon

Okay so I was deciding between killin' me good and pop for this list because I think they both fit her in diff ways but I think pop is better for her because its whimsical and silly and happy with a bit of cunty and that's very lucy for me <3 but in general I think both songs would work for her but anyway yes pop is very silly and fun and cute and i think thats very fitting for lucy and she would rock the pop m/v outfits

Queen of Hearts by TWICE

Okay this one is both based lyrically and vibe vise. I think it sounds like something lucy would perform its a powerful song but not too over the top and a good middle ground that would suit lucy. anyways the lyrics from the first chorus:

its VERY fitting for lucy leaving her old life behind and starting new and becoming bigger and better yes yes yes and the lyrics about being a queen yes she is a queen and she will rule the world!!!

BONVOYAGE by Dreamcatcher

i loveee this song and honestly a lot of dreamcatcher songs I imagine nalu scenarios in my head to them because theyre songs are sooo catchy and fast paced I can imagine the craziest things,, anyway the reason I chose this song was mostly the lyrics i mean things like

i cant explain it but this is definitely them theyre soulmates and the "maybe you dont but i love you" definitely suits lucy i specifically thought of the line in 100yq of her thinking natsu doesnt like her in that way but you know she loves him anyway and they'll be together forever in his words etc etc

again i cant really explain how this is them but if i had to i would say the way theyre really close and best friends and yet have fallen in love with eachother but are hurting eachother going in circles with their relationship and not confronting their fears about losing each other either quite literally or their relationship and it's gonna build up until it explodes lol

okay last part these lyrics really remind me of the ending in dragon cry when lucy tells natsu that even with the different conflicting parts of him she knows him and she knows that even with all of that hes still just natsu and its what he needed to hear and she just knew that so :)

and also other than the lyrics I think the song can be very lucy sounding,, to me anyways :D

enchanted night ~ 白夜 by Billlie

Okay after the essay on the last one I wanted to do a song that has a more simple explanation,, so Billlie have amazing songs theyre one of my favourite kpop groups and if you haven't listened to their songs they bang so hard please listen <3 anyways the lyrics are all based around of course an enchanted night with lines like "The moon is freaky, the stars are dreamy" etc etc which of course suits lucy due to the stars and such but also the moon part made me think of the galuna island arc and of course the whole eclipse gate and such so yeah! (also the song sounds soft and pretty like lucy.. (: )

Playing with Fire by Blackpink

another song based off of lyrics being very nalu i mean... playing with fire as a title is very nalu,, but also the lyrics are about going too far in love and getting hurt getting burnt etc etc which like you know that one scene in 100yq and like the whole slow burn thing they have,, its very fitting to me imo and also the sound suits lucy its again middle ground powerful but not too overwhelming to the point where its too powerful that it wouldnt suit lucy (not saying she isnt powerful she has her moments which is why i think a middle ground is good)

Queencard - G-IDLE

this might be a hit or miss for some people,, but hear me outtttt... I wanted to add a song thats very high confidence and powerful but a lot of songs in mind were too dark and serious but and I feel like this fits the most,, its feminine and fun with confidence and cunt slayage and its silly and fun and its so lucy to me its so so so lucy too me. I need to draw lucy in a queencard stage outfit like yesterday thank yew also i know a lot of people thought the lyrics were cringe and this that blah blah blah but i think adds to the fun and it kinda fits lucy sometimes shes a little silly and girlfail and thats okay we love her for it

(I will leave it there for now but theres defo more songs out there for this but I dont want to make this toooo long and obv i included these songs a lot because I like them and some other people may not like the songs or agree that they suit lucy but its how I view them and its just for fun :)

also sm is very good at solo careers, like it is so so so incredibly rare for most group members to do even mildly well when they go solo but sm is so good at it. like shinee? literally every single member has an extremely successful solo career. and like you could argue that hybe (bts) or yg (bp) have that too but genuinely 90% of the views and streams on those are from fans that would stream even if they screamed into the mic for an hour, but sm has even people who arent into kpop tuning in. like taemin? some people genuinely didnt know he was in shinee because they knew all his solo songs but never heard of shinee itself. and taeyon from snsd with invu? joy with red velvet with annyeong that literally somehow went viral on tiktok with ppl who dont even know kpop?? AND WHEN EVERY COSPLAYER KNEW "SHOW ME" BY KEY FROM HOW FAMOUS IT GOT!!! for all their faults you can never criticise sm when it comes to music itself

and that's saying nothing about how i think baekhyun is the best selling soloist of all time currently?? obvs and also boa, but she's always been a soloist. the fact that less than a decade ago they decided they were gonna try to launch a solo career from a group and it popped off so hard that they've been able to do it with every other group since is ASTOUNDING

if u hate this song you hate fun tbh! the thing i loved about this song is that it felt less like a debut song and more like a comeback song. we love you viviz.

i had to pretend like i didnt get it on the 1st-and-a-half listen bcuz i was still very much in my txt anti era. but now im normal so i can appreciate what this song means to me ❤

i cant even tell you how much joy i get out of seeing most of the izone girlies thriving. yena, yuri, chaeyeon, and eunbi all made fantastic solo songs, wonyoung, yujin, chaewon, and sakura are tearing it up in ive and le sserafim respectively, and I even got peeks of nako and hitomi throughout the year. like, my tiny heart cant take it.

I reluctantly got into boy groups this year

I got into kpop back in 2013 because the goth bar near me had a monthly kpop night. the bartenders were mean as fuck but made unbelievably strong drinks, and they would project the music videos onto a huge screen and my roommate and I would get sloshed and try to twerk to HyunA. It was a simple and beautiful time. but. the DJ who ran the event was such an unabashed EXO stan and we would spend half of the night drunkenly talking shit about her not playing enough girl group songs.

it makes zero sense for me to still have this chip on my shoulder, especially in a year where pretty much everyone agrees that girl groups dominated the industry, but I've been admittedly ignoring boy groups for the majority of my time as a kpop fan and it just started to feel unfair.

drag me for this but Blessed-Cursed got its claws into my brain. I was sick of not knowing what naega byeonhae meant. I liked doing the silly anime pose choreo during Thunderous. I'm like, vaguely aware of who the members of Seventeen are. wow. truly in my growth era. dont ask me about nct tho

Fifty Fifty had a no-skip debut mini. higher is fantastic dizzying bubblegum pop, log in is?? cyber girl crush?? lovin me is smooth af, this mini is just so polished for a debut

CSR ohhh myyyy goddd are they filling such a sorely needed niche in kpop right now. I couldn't get into pop? pop the fuzzy effect sounded vaguely horror movie to me, but loveticon is wonderful I can't wait to see what they do next.

my izone bias line is literally half the gosh dang group. sigh.

#i mean sorta #i'll be a joyuriz bias until the day i die #but i do have three other members that i like sub-bias #cause at this point all three joyuriz members are ults of mine lol. not just within izone but in all kpop in general #a long time ago i would have said yena was my bias and my sub-biases were yuri and chaewon but now theyre all ults #and i have non-joyuriz sub-biases lol #its interesting to me tho cause ive given each joyuriz member a time in the spotlight lol #yena was my first bias and yuri was my second favorite and chaewon was definitely in third. i liked her but idk #and then chaewon like suddenly became number one at some point. lmao. and tbh she's still there. and i dont think that will change #but with yuri's solo debut and everything... ive been focused a lot on yuri and im glad <3 she's so great #i really wish they had stuck together as a trio #but its okay #two soloists and a member of a hybe girl group... it'll be interesting #most likely this means that yenyul will interact a lot since theyre soloists but chaewon might be harder to contact #even when this hiatus of hers is over..............#yenyul and ssamyen both mean the world to me. i havent seen enough ssamyul interactions but i know i love that too #anywayyyyyy shut up gwen

You're already packing your things and preparing to leave the meeting room when your phone buzzes with an incoming text message.

Furrowing your eyebrows, you sit back on the office chair and open the YouTube link your manager forwarded to you. You bite your thumbnail while waiting for the video to load, nervous suddenly. One of the new YG girls? You can only guess he's talking about a BLACKPINK member, considering the fact they were the newest girl group that debuted at the company.

The clip finally loads, and your heart skips a beat at the image. It's a short video from a recent episode of Running Men, with BLACKPINK making their first ever appearance as rookies.

The title reads, BLACKPINK Rosé admits she is the biggest fan of Sm Entertainment's Y/N L/N!

And sure enough, Rosé goes on to ramble about your most recent album and her favorite songs, even mentioning your upcoming drama, for almost three minutes straight.

"Ah, if there's one soloist I really wish to collaborate with, it's her," her eyes wide with excitement, "Even though she only debuted recently it really feels like she knows what she’s doing. I really respect her.."

Everyone in the room awww's and oooh's as Rosé cover her face with a giggle. The MC points at the camera and suggests: "Is there anything you'd like to tell her; in case she’s watching?"

"Y/N -unnie! Oh, I hope you're not actually watching this, I'm really embarrassed now..." she looks around the room as everyone erupts into laughter once again, "But-- yeah, I'm really looking forward to your next album and... I'll listen to it a lot when it comes! Just like I always do!"

The MC and her members all clap while still laughing, as the clip ends, and the conversation naturally flows to a different topic.

You only realize you're smiling once you hear the door open and see an intern walk in. "Ah, Ms. L/N, you're still here? Mina is already in the car waiting for you outside." she pauses once she catches a glance of your face, "Are you okay? You seem a lot cheerier than before."

Grabbing your things, you politely wave her off before heading for the door. "Oh, it's nothing. Everything is just fine."

You and Rosé immediately hit it off-- after you get in touch with her using the phone number another idol in your agency gave you and arrange a few meetups, it feels as if you've known each other for ages.

She's so easygoing and easy to talk to that you never struggle to find topics for discussion. This, however, often gets out of control when you stay up until early morning hours to text each other despite having busy schedules the next day. Even now, sitting on a chair in the hairstylists trailer on the set of your drama, you find yourself typing replies to her endless text messages.

"Close your eyes please," your hairstylist interrupts your train if thought as she shakes a bottle of finishing spray, ready to send you off for filming. You do as you're told, but your mind is stuck elsewhere. This would be the first time you'd get to see Rosé's apartment, and you were rather curious.

"Okay, you're all done." she runs a comb through your hair one last time, "come back at 1 PM please, I need to re-do your hair for the lake scene. Okay?"

You nod, getting out of the seat and mindlessly grabbing your script from the vanity. Throughout filming and the remainder of the day, your thoughts are scatter all over but always manage to circle back to a certain someone, no matter how much you try to focus on your role.

"And... Cut! Everyone pack up for the day." the director shouts and the dimmed set is immediately lit up by halogen lights. You squint your eyes and politely smile at your co-star, pulling away from his embrace. The romantic scene you were currently shooting involved your characters sitting on a picnic blanket, watching shooting starts.

You didn’t mind shooting intimate scenes, but this time you felt detached from your character no matter how much you tried to focus. You could barely look into your co-stars eyes without zoning out—it was almost embarrassing.

You know your performance today wasn't the best, and it seem the director noticed as well: "Y/N? Can I talk to you for a second?"

You waddle along to his seat behind the camera, while putting on a robe cover-up one of the interns handed to you. "Yes?"

"I just wanted to check in to make sure you're okay. You seem really distracted today,"

"Ah," you nod, "I think it's just the exhaustion getting to me. I'll snap out of it over the weekend, I promise."

He purses his lips, as if he was trying to make himself believe you, "I trust you and I know you’re a great actress, but please make sure to focus on your work only while on set, okay?"

Once you nod, he continues: "Great, now go home and rest. I'll see you Monday."

You quickly get changed and pack all your things, not bothering to take off your makeup. You grab your phone to call an Uber, only pausing to check the time. 23:16.

For a moment you consider just going home instead. Was Rosé even still awake? Maybe the whole thing would be awkward and uncomfortable and weird...

Before you can think any further, a new message pops up on the top of your screen.

R: are we still on for dinner tonight? :)

You bite your lip and type up a reply.

Y/N: yes i'm on my way :)

R: i'll be waiting! x

Rosé buzzes you in her apartment building and tells you to go to the third floor. Her front door swings open before you even have time to knock, "Y/N!" she pulls you into a hug with the biggest grin on her face.

"How was filming?" the heavy wooden door closes after you two and its only now that you realize you're in her apartment --her private and sacred space-- for the first time ever. It's big and airy, with dark wooden floors and cream colored walls, with plant pots hanging from the ceiling and nestled in every corner.

"Your home is gorgeous." you cant stop looking around as she leads you down the hallway.

You can sense she’s blushing without even having to look at her face, "Ah, thank you. It's good to have my own place for once."

When you finally reach the joint kitchen and living room, she points to the luxurious looking sofa, nudging you to sit down: "So, I know I said we could cook tteokbokki together but I thought you might be too tired, since you had a busy day of filming."

You open your mouth to reassure her that it's okay and you don't mind, when she turns around, holding two bowls.

"I thought it would be easier if I just made it myself," Rosé startles when she sees your face, "Gosh, I hope you're not angry... Y/N, I promise I'm a good cook!"

You shake your head and laugh, taking one of the bowls from her hand.

"No no no Rosie, I'm not angry. I-" you glance at her, "You're too nice to me."

Rosé sits on the couch next to you and lightly puts her hand on your shoulder, "You deserve for everyone to be at least as nice to you as I am."

Suddenly overly aware of the closeness of your bodies and the warmth of her hand on your skin, you swallow dryly. "Yeah."

Her gaze slips from your eyes down below and your breath hitches in your throat. The room is deadly silent, her perfume sweet and her hair frames her face like a painting.

Suddenly a jolt of pain jolts you awake, and you pull away, your skin burning. Rosé pulls away, just as surprised as you are.

“Oh gosh, I’m so sorry.” She gasps when she notices the fresh stain on your blouse, sauce still dripping over the brim of her bowl and onto the floor.

“Ugh, I’m such a klutz,” Rosé stands up and reaches for a box of tissues on the toffee table. After wiping the floor, she grabs the dirty bowl and swiftly slips out of the room. She returns soon after, with a wet towel in her hand.

“Ah, no that’s okay,” you start putting your palms up to stop her, “Please don’t worry about it.”

Rosie shakes her head: “Nonsense, this is all my fault. Let me help you.”

You realize there’s no point in arguing and so you let her press the damp towel onto the fabric of your top. She’s so close you can feel the warmth of her beath brush against your neck, her fingers brushing against your collarbone as she gently wipes the fabric.

You notice that she furrows her brows and bites her bottom lip when focused on a task. Why do I know that? Stop staring at her so profusely, you think and force yourself to turn away and glare at the vase of flowers on her TV stand instead. Who got her those? Did she buy them themselves or were they a gift from someone? A boyfriend? Or a..

Before you let yourself wonder any further, Rosé puts her hand on your thigh for support and stands up from the floor. “I did my best but I think it would be better to put it in the laundry right now while it’s still wet. You can change into one of my shirts in the meantime, if you’d like?”

You nod, “I would really appreciate that, if it’s not too much of a bother.”

Rosé playfully rolls her eyes and pulls you up from the couch, “Come on, I’ll show you my closet. And you don’t have to be so formal with me all the time, we’re friends aren’t we?”

She guides you to the other side of the apartment and towards her bedroom. You feel shy all of a sudden, realizing that you’re entering even further into her private space.

Her bedroom is decorated in shades of gray and smells of coconut air freshener. Rosé has you sit at the edge of her bed while she searches through her closet. You carefully lean against the freshly washed bedsheets and look around the room. You see pictures of her and her members framed on her vanity and hung all around the walls. You notice a collection of vinyl records on one of the shelves, alongside a few copies of your albums. You feel oddly flattered, She really wasn’t lying when she said she was a fan, huh?

“Here you go,” she smiles while handing you a folded shirt, “This should do for now. I’ll put your blouse in the laundry and make sure the tteokbokki it doesn’t leave a permanent stain.”

It takes you a second to realize that she’s expecting you to change right here and now, in front of her. You feel stupid asking her to leave her own bedroom so you could change, so you bite down your timidness and reach for the buttons on the shirt. Only after you unbutton the first three does Rosé inhale sharply and turn around, heat rising in her cheeks. She pointlessly shuffles through a drawer in her vanity, pretending to look for something. You quickly slip on the t-shirt she gave you (oversized with a band graphic on the front) and hand her the blouse: “Thank you so much, Rosie. You really don’t have to do this.”

Rosé finally turns around, her eyes soft when they meet yours, “Yes I do.”

You show up to work next week just like you did all the previous months of filming, but your hearts not really in it. For the first time in almost your entire career, you struggle to connect with your character, either forget your lines or can’t deliver them properly. After the third failed retake of the same scene, the director yells “Cut!” and you grab your robe from one of the interns with a bit too much vigor before hurrying to your trailer.

Y/N, what the fuck is wrong with you? you scold yourself as you pace around the room. Failure, or even mediocrity, are things you weren’t familiar with. You always excelled at everything you tried from the get-go in an almost effortless manner. What were you doing wrong?

You pinch the bridge of your nose, trying to figure out what it was that had been throwing you off your game recently, what sort of distraction has been on your mind so much that you couldn’t manage to focus on anything else…

There it was, the answer, as bright as day. Rosé. Somehow, you found it increasingly difficult to forget her laugh, mannerisms, the warmth of her skin against yours. You couldn’t even take the blouse you washed at her apartment from the bottom of your drawer—it smelled so much like her it became almost unbearable.

You swallow dryly at the realization. Whatever these... feelings you were experiencing meant, they weren’t doing you any good and only posed a threat to your career: which has always been something you valued over anything else. I’ll get over this. I need to get over this.

Taking a deep breath to center yourself, you walk back on set and towards the directors chair.

“Y/N?” he looks up from the pile of documents he’s reading through, surprised at the amount of determination written on your face, “Is everything okay?”

“I’m ready to do the scene again,” you tell him, “Properly this time.”

He hesitates, “Are you sure? I don’t mind if you need some more time to run over the lines or—”

“No,” giving him your most convincing smile, you gently shake your head. “I’m all ready.”

You know you did a good-enough job of faking confidence when he reciprocates your grin and calls for the staff to prepare the set again: you were an actress after all.

The next few days pass by in a blur. You manage to block out everything and solely focus on your role—pushing to film long after the director suggests to take a break or going over the script until early morning hours. You even try out a few of the things he suggested when you first started filming, such as spending more time outside of work with your co-star Eunwoo to “improve your chemistry on-screen”.

Eunwoo was conventionally attractive and a fan favorite, you knew that, but you still found yourself struggling trying to replicate any sort of organic attraction to him on set. But who’s to say a few friendly hang outs can’t fix that? You two arranged to go out for dinner a few times after work, dates which you can’t say you didn’t enjoy, but which arguably didn’t do much to improve your chemistry or make you want to rip his clothes off.

Additionally, you had to ignore the articles that popped up in all local tabloids the morning after every single one of your dinners. “Co-stars from an upcoming romantic drama, Y/N L/N and Cha Eunwoo, seen at a romantic dinner late last night—maybe art truly imitates life after all?”

Seeing another one of these pop up on your news feed made your stomach twist every day, but when Eunwoo asked to see another movie tomorrow night, you didn’t refuse.

You couldn’t let yourself think about the reason why you threw yourself into work so completely, what, or who, made you fill your schedule with appointments and meetings in an effort to keep your mind busy enough to push her to the brim. You had been ignoring Rosé’s messages and not returning her calls for at least a week now, and every time you saw her face plastered on a magazine or billboard, you felt your heart sink further into your chest.

It was a Saturday morning when, one of your few days off in a while, when you woke up to the sound of your phone ringing on your nightstand. Barely pulling the sleeping mask off your face, you grabbed the device and picked up without bothering to read the callers ID. “Yes?”

“Y/N?” the sound of the voice on the other side of the line gave you goosebumps, “It’s Rosie.”

“I know,” your morning voice is still raspy, but you feel more awake than ever, “Are you okay? What happened? Why are you calling so early?”

“Early? It’s 10:30 AM… were you still asleep?” you can almost hear the smile forming on her lips.

“No! No, I wasn’t,” you sit up from your bed and walk around the room, too nervous to stay still, “So what’s up?”

“Oh, right. I have a lunch reservation for 1 PM and Lisa cancelled on me so I was wondering if you’d like to join. I would have texted instead of calling but…” you had been ignoring me like the plague, her voice trails off with the words left unsaid hanging between you two.

You try to come up with an excuse on the spot, your brain still not fully awake and functioning. “When did you say it was for? 13:00?”

“Yes,” her voice is soft and quiet, almost shy. After pondering on the thought for a moment too long, you sigh: “I’ll be there—just text me the address.

After overthinking what to wear, how to style your hair and which lipstick shade matches your skin tint better for hours to no end, you finally arrive at the restaurant Rosé suggested. You walk through the café into the back garden, the black sunglasses sitting at the bottom of your nose bridge doing very little to conceal your identity. You find Rosé sitting at a table for two positioned under a cherry blossom tree. The summer dress she’s wearing makes her look even more breathtaking than usual and her newly bleached hair shines like a halo in the sunlight. You feel a tug in your chest and seriously contemplate just turning around and going home when she spots you walk in and waves you over to the table.

“Hi, sorry I’m a bit late.” you begin to apologize as she pulls you into a hug, the scent of her perfume you tried so hard to forget hits you like a brick.

Rosie just shakes her head and smiles, ever so forgiving. Both of you order a meal and a drink and then she goes on about her newest project. She mentions how excited she is for your drama and how you and Eunwoo make such a lovely couple (a statement that makes you choke on your lemonade, but which you decide not to disprove, for whatever reason).

You only chirp in when she directly asks you a question, otherwise concentrating all of your energy on not gawking at her like a creep for minutes at a time—a task which you find increasingly more difficult. Instead, you make yourself look around the restaurant, take a sip of your drink and a bite of your food every now and then, all while ignoring the heat in your cheeks and your uneven heartbeat.

Somehow, you manage to get through the lunch without any casualties and insist on paying for Rosé’s meal.

“Let me just ask my manager to come pick me up,” she grabs her phone and starts typing a text message.

Feeling bad for being such bad company throughout the meal, you force yourself to offer her a ride, “I could just drive you; my car is parked out front.”

She looks absolutely delighted, but only agrees after you’ve reassured her that its “absolutely no bother” about a million times.

If you found the lunch a bit uncomfortable, then the drive home is absolutely unbearable.

You both stay silent the whole time, and the radio playing quietly in the background does very little to break up toe awkward atmosphere.

It is only after you stop in front of her apartment building that Rosé turns to you, her face drained of any color whatsoever. “Y/N, I wasn’t going to say anything but… I’m not sure what I did wrong, but I understand that you’re upset with me. I—you’re one of my closest friends and I know it’s a bit ridiculous because we only met a few months ago...” she takes a deep breath and looks up, her eyes glossy with tears, “What I’m trying to say is, I really care about you. More than I’ve cared about anyone before. I don’t want to lose you so if I did something to upset you then please tell me. If you don’t want to be friends with me anymore, I understand and I’ll just..”

Your heart breaks as you watch her hands shake and eyes pool with tears. All this time you only thought about what would be best for you and what would make you the most comfortable—and for the meantime, that meant shoving your feelings deep inside instead of facing them head-on. It’s only now that you realize that’s how people get hurt: people you weren’t willing to hurt in order to stay blissfully ignorant.

“I’m not dating Eunwoo.” you cut in.

Rosé stares at you, taken aback, “You’re not? But why did you—”

“I just didn’t really want to delve into that.” You fiddle with your bracelet nervously.

“So you don’t like him? At all?”

You swallow dryly and shake your head: “No. I never liked him like that. I don’t… I don’t think I’m capable of liking anyone like him in that way.”

Her mouth hangs open as she stiffens in her seat, “Y/N..”

Without letting yourself think too much about your actions or their consequences, you reach over the center console and kiss her. Her lips are soft and taste faintly of champagne. Your mind feels perfectly clear for the first time in weeks—and yet the only thing you can manage to think about is Rosé. Her lips on yours, the scent of her perfume that still doesn’t fail to make you feel dizzy and the fact that she’s kissing you back.

Rosé puts her hands on your cheeks to pull you closer, the feeling of her skin sending shivers down your spine. She only phe pulls away at the sound of her phone ringing with an incoming call, her lipstick all messed up.

“Eunwoo is definitely out of the picture?” she smiles sheepishly.

You giggle, grabbing a tissue from your purse to fix her makeup, “He was never in it to begin with.”

She declines the call before putting her hand on the door handle, “That was my manager—I really have to go now but I’ll call you later?”

“I’ll be waiting.”

Rosé gives you a quick peck on the lips before slipping out the car. You watch her turn around when she reaches her front door, waving at you wildly as she disappears inside. And now, the heavy feeling in your chest returns, but for a completely different reason.

Yup! You got it! Wendy has a more standard kpop voice, and like Taeyeon she has the range that sm likes (*though the caveat I think is that Taeyeon has a really strong middle range that the Korean gp loves) so just on top of being a technically proficient singer, she gets more lines. The big tell is that Seulgi is a stronger TECHNICAL singer than Irene-but Seulgi gets very specific parts in red velvet songs similar to Jessica-but Irene in general gets more lines/or full versus versus the "umph" parts. And a good example of technical skill not really mattering all that much after having one or two proficient singers is that Joy and Irene are evenly matched, just that Irene simultaneously has the Kpop visual thing/A brighter tone-so who gets more lines?

It's why kpop fans, but people in general look very silly doing those vocal rankings to anyone that has ACTUAL history doing music, or using their vocal/musical training to essentially shit on people lol. It absolutely doesn't matter that so and so is breathey as long as they get the note out-its about if the SOUND is nice to you. And even then that's so subjective. It's like when people get at Rose damaging her voice. She's just using more air-and she sings, like in a group of FOUR ppl, seconds to maybe 1 minute of a 3/4 minute song. That's a perfectly fine way for her to sing lol and that "nasally" sound is most likely on PURPOSE. Yg isnt making her damage her voice lol. (A big way to tell if someone knows what they're talking about is vocal nodules-Mariah Carey/Whiteny Houstan/Adele ect have all had them-its not a sign of poor singing-most people have them lol. It's a sign if vocal fold use-and singers just use them more- Mariah Carey kept hers for years because she thought it made her sing better). It's all about vocal tone/affect-and in pop music especially it seems like such a silly thing to fight Abt when people are trained/guided/vocal souped to sound as similarly to each other as possible.

omg yes i agree, some popular singers dont sound like that plain wendy/etc sound but theyre not worse than her/those plain types just bc they sound unique. do you think there is still a place for the vocal rankings that go really into the study of vocals as an instrument, e.g. finding ppls breaks and whether they can support different registers? i dont know enough about that theory but i think that is still interesting on the technical side, altho maybe that style of ranking is biased towards like "classically" singing in a specific way.

im watching the universe behind rn (fortuitous bc that song has been in my head for days haha), and i can definitely see that even more than usual theyre cutting and jumping around the recording sessions with different people - seems they had trouble getting the right vocal parts with this song. and also the part where doyoung flubs the high note and he says smth like "did you guys do this to everyone else too" and the pd says "yeah its been like this all day." its so fascinating, the voices of other people are basically another instrument that is co-played by the vocalist (if their musicality is appreciated by the pd) and the pd. again... im still high lol... but i feel like u can see with dy/hc they have ideas in terms of musicality/interpreting a phrase but ultimately are mostly accepting and quickly integrating pd feedback for the final tracks. and then theres ppl like yangyang jaemin shotaro who shouldnt even bother bringing in a pencil to take personal notes bc the pd is completely controlling their vocals (unless theyre like me and forget feedback lol but that would be an especially sorry commentary on their vocal skills). im gonna appreciate more those soloists who try their hands at writing/composing etc and are on smaller labels, yes the production cant always be so slick and doesnt go thru as many ppl before it goes out but i kind of like that.

do you have any commentary on how seventeen and stray kidz "self produce" songs? how much of that is actually self-production? and it has obviously been a unique niche and successful choice for sm to be the least authentic of its peers in terms of letting idols have basically any input in recording, but why do you think they went in that direction/have been strict about it with some (girl) groups and more lenient about letting other (boy) groups write their own stuff?

edit it seems like mark has the most ideas out of all of them but in this instance it doesnt seem like pd kept most of em! jeno has a few ideas too and seems to be good at implementing feedback but then he says "idk how the mix will sound but i wish i could have done something more" ... plus dy saying "thank god i get to do something this time" what do they MEAN???!!! also why is favorite playing in the bg at some point

edit 2 there are points at the end of that vid where doyoung straight up misses 2 of the chorus melodies like it looks like its his first or second time hearing the song ever and its while hes already in the production booth. he is super facile with the song all the other moments in that video except for that moment and thats so curious to me. i guess i assume ppl walk around listening to their song before they record it like in drag race LOLLL

You talking about looking for a main character just made me realize thats probably why the center position is a thing in some groups. I've always thought it was a bit weird and annoying having one member send out and literally be the focus point but it does open the door for new people to get into the group by focusing first on one idol and slowly getting to know the others. It does fail its purposes sometimes when most consumers dont look past the center/main face and end up only being familiar with them, but thats a risk maybe worth taking. I noticed you also mention a lot of soloists in your stuff and wanted to ask what are your thoughts on Chungha? For me she's incredibly talented but back on her ioi days you couldn't really see her standing out as much, almost blending in too much with the other girls as opposed to Taemin, who, once he's with shinee he steps back a little and adds to the group performance but not without cancelling himself out. Maybe that happened with Chungha because of how ioi was built around produce's golden first place. Or maybe she's fine with group performances too and its been too long since i've watched an ioi stage lol but i do remember thinking that at some point

ding ding ding! that’s exactly why center position is a thing! it’s also why ‘visual’ is a position too; there has to be a hook to get people interested, and an extraordinarily pretty face is an easy way to do that. i dont know that i would classify it as a risk per se, since debuting a group just one very big risk anyways, but having an established center used to be how most first and second groups were formed. probably a lot of third gen groups also. it's really only been recently (i think? at least from what i’ve seen) that there’s been groups with no set positions. but also the truth of the matter is that even with an egalitarian system, not every member of the group has the capacity to carry center.

i think chungha is very talented! i named her in my personal favourite kpop dancers answer as one of my top female dancers. honestly i’d never seen an ioi stage before answering this i wouldnt say i have a definitely answer, but there’s a couple of points i can make here. firstly, chungha might have been the second oldest in the group at debut, but 20 is still young, and as a rookie you’re not gonna have your stage presence down pat right away. that’s especially true if you debut in an 11 member group. when you’re in a group that big, no one truly gets a good crack at center position for long enough to work out how that kind of presence feels and what you need to do with your face and body to maintain it. and they had a run of like, nine months. that’s not enough time, especially coming straight out of a high competitive environment like a survival show. these girls have likely been jostling to get noticed for months (i have no idea how long they film the produce series for, i assume it's at least two months) and now that they’ve all made it to the group, its gonna be a while before that mindset fades, especially with almost a dozen people. this probably sounds contradictory but in order to have good presence as as center or as a soloist you need to be willing to step back from that center. if everyone is constantly competing to be seen (when not in center), where is the audience supposed to look? this is one of the things that makes ateez so impressive in my eyes; despite being so young, they have a very cohesive group presence and they don’t fight over center, they all step back when necessary. normally it takes a lot of time and a lot of performances for a group to figure that out.

i think the main differences between chungha and taemin (there are obviously a lot) are that taemin debuted with a permanent position in a small group; he was always guaranteed to be seen, both as maknae and as main dancer. and he’s had thirteen years and a solo career to perfect exactly how much effort he expends in a group performance and where it needs to go. chungha comparatively, had a televised survival show that led to a group over twice the size as shinee, and less than a year of experience with that group, so it makes sense that she faded a little more into the background. but now she’s got a solid solo career, and we love growth and progress!

honestly g7 as grp and individually have won me over with their music style, even if i don't like full album ik there will be 3-4 songs which will be exactly what i like to listen to, all of the music they've released individually i've liked it so much. there is this song of youngjae's, titled "i'm all ears" i had no idea of its existence until it popped up in my spotify i'm so glad it did, it's been in my playlist ever since. there was also a time when i was obsessed with jackson's 'on the rocks' djdjdk.

you grew up in korea and you didn’t really have a good knowledge of english

so your mom made sure you got an english teacher

because she always wanted the best for her daughter

so like you would be able to speak english but the accent was still there

you signed with a korean management group when you were 14

and at first there wasn’t any gigs or anything

but they paired you with 5 other girls

and you guys became y/g/n

at first the girls were like super intimidating

because they were all older

like 21 older and you were considered the baby of the group

but when they got to know you they automatically treated you like they’re little sis

and they were so protective over you and anyone you were interested in

so you liked people but you never really had a boyfriend

anyway your group only became popular when you turned 16

people nominated you for a grammy and even though you didn’t win one

you gained more followers since you guys went

so your management would finally decide to let you guys tour north america

after endless months of practice and writing new songs

you guys were ready for the tour

your first stop was atlanta and you heard some celebs were coming to check you guys out

but you didn’t really know which ones for sure

you were so nervous because it was your first show in america

and the crew was just stressing you out

and in the last practice you couldn’t get any of the dance moves

one of your groupmates, Holly came to calm you down

“ Look, y/n your fine, the house is packed and everyone is coming just to see us. we’re- wait what do you call it”

so after the show the celebs came backstage

and you thanked all of them and since the other members didn’t really know english you spoke for them

and they talked about collabing on a song together

or just getting to hang out

and then the last person came

finn fucking wolfhard

and he would just be raving about your show

and you would be really flattered and you guys would just talk for a long time

so after he would give you his number

giggling or smiling over something someone said

so you planned to get coffee and then go to one of finn’s movies

but you dressed in like a cute summer dress

and you would just talk about your careers and just weird things about yourselves

the way you guys just fit together was crazy

so finn would finally grow balls and hold your hands during the movie and you would just be like blushing like fucking crazy

and he would walk you back to the hotel room

“ um y/n i had a lot of fun tonight with you “

and he would lean in and just kiss you and it would be perfect

until holly opened the door

“ wow locking lips out here huh?”

and you and finn would look at each other

and blush

he would wave to you bye and tell you he would text you later

and holly would have just talked her ass off

and you would be tired and finn would text you goodnight

so you guys have been hanging out in public

and fans always thought you guys were dating

but you didn’t really release anything

until your group was on spill your guts, fill your guts

and james was asking personal questions that were funny.

“ y/n i’m going to give you bull’s penis”

“ james there is no way i am eating that”

he would pick the card up and start giggling

“ you might have to”

you would groan and slap your hand against your head

the entire audience would be laughing

you debated it, you were not eating it
