"(Y/N)!" Your Orc partner roared.
Where had you gone? It was a routine raid, you should have stayed back and help everyone move supplies.
The fire that had been set to burn out most of the humans (your idea) licked the sky, buildings collapsed with a plume of ash.
It had all gone wrong. The whole point of the fire was to get human beings running and out of the way so that the Caravan could run in, take what they needed and leave.
But that wasn't what happened. The humans had fought back. They had started to drag up water from the well, and tossed it over the fires. The Orcs had no choice but to retreat.
But the humans drew their swords. And the Orcs had no choice but to defend themselves.
Bloodshed had ensued and the fire had gotten out of hand. Once your Orc had retreated to go and get you out of the fray, you were gone. You should have been hiding by the treeline, away from the madness.
"(Y/N)!" Your boyfriend shouted again. He ran past bodies, bodies of his own and humans too. The blood that had spilled made it difficult to maintain your boyfriend's balance. He slipped, and caught himself way too many times.
But he reached the centre of the town, he saw you. You clutched a bucket of water to your chest, soot smeared across your face while another Orc barked at you.
"(Y/N)!" Your Orc Boyfriend bellowed.
You jumped, but the other Orc snatched your bucket before you dropped it. He ran off as your Orc Boyfriend approached you.
"I-I..." you began but you couldn't finish.
"What are you doing?! You need to get out of here, now!" He snapped.
"But the Orcs, they're injured-"
"Don't worry about them, get to the wagon at the other side of town, my others will keep you safe." When you didn't move, your Orc barked, "now, (Y/N)!"
You gritted your teeth. You knew this was no time to argue, but you didn't want to just leave him here. But as a collection of angry human roars echoed from the other side of the village, you flinched.
"Go, now!" Your Orc turned away from you and to the human mob getting closer and closer.
"I'm not-"
"I'll be fine! Now go!" Your Orc Boyfriend shoved you away from him. Once you had the momentum, you took off into a sprint. You knew he was right, there was no way that you could defend yourself from that many people.
A few other Orcs ran past you to join the fight. You still didn't turn back. You knew if you turned back now, you wouldn't be able to keep running away.
The wagon, holding a couple of barrels came into view. The only Orc standing, beckoned to you, "come on!" He bellowed.
Your lungs burned, your legs ached, your arms were sore from helping the survivors. As soon as you reached the wagon, the Orc grabbed you and sat you amongst the barrels, providing you good cover. Should the humans decide to use bow and arrows.
You dared to look back. Where was your partner? Where'd he-
An answer appeared before you could even finish your thought. Your amazing boyfriend, barrelled out from a cloud of smoke, brandishing his axe. Humans nearby flinched, screamed, some even roared and swung back in defence.
The wagon had started to move, drawn by the Orc who had put you on the back of it.
A few humans sprinted to keep up your boyfriend, waving torches and pitchforks. But they only fell further and further behind as your Orc raced to catch up with the wagon.
You leaned forwards, holding your hand out to him, "hurry!"
With one final leap, he grasped onto your arm and crashed onto the wagon.
The wagon creaked under his massive weight. But it did not break. The supplies that the Orcs had stolen rustled as your boyfriend adjusted himself.
He lay on his back, panting, huffing.
"Damn human bastards." He breathed. "The others were good diversions. They said they'd catch up-"
You flung yourself on top of him and squeezed him tightly. Your heart thundered hard in your chest, adrenaline still rushing through your system.
Your Orc said nothing, instead, just placing his large hands on your back and holding you there.
It was a close call. Too close. For either of you.
"Promise me you'll never do that again?" You looked up at him. "Please?"
Your Orc Boyfriend looked at you and huffed, "Only if you promise to never go into another raid like that again."
Nodding, you settled your head on his chest again. His heart had slowed to a dull thumping.
As the voices of the angry humans died out, you felt yourself relax. You were both safe. And that's all that mattered.

GENERIC FANTASY PROMPTS *  assorted dialogue for any fantasy setting
you are a descendent from an ancient royal line.
can you joust?
this is not a question of bravery.
are you too cowardly to take a life?
hand me my sword.
the sheets feel scratchy.
you could have got us killed!
if you had kept to the plan, those knights might be alive right now.
together, we have a chance to take back what is ours.
would you ride into town with me?
you're playing with fire.
you should be on the throne.
perhaps we never should have come.
did you bring your bow?
you take one more step, traitor, and i'll chew you to splinters.
are you fit to compete, or shall the forfeit stand?
thank you, my lord.
i will deal with you when this is over.
you have to go alone.
we have some work to do.
it's an ambush!
why are they all staring at us?
were you robbed?
clean your sword.
i must look for a suitor.
i know where your allegiance lies.
pick up your sword.
you're not going to kill me?
what do you propose we do, your majesty?
the path takes us through there.
i will probably die on this quest.
even the peasants can marry for love.
your people love you.
i just learned this spell. can i show you?
are you with me?
how many more must die for the throne?
why don't we discuss the matter later?
what are you wearing to the ball tonight?
do not shush me!
be careful on those roads. there's been a report of bandits.
i'm not worthy of the throne.
how do i know your promise will be kept?
take the sword to the tower.
is that your horse?
i hear there's going to be a royal ball.
it was said to be magic.
no one has ever taken that castle.
what a waste of brandy.
is there a way down?
do you hear talk of a dragon?
you knowingly endangered a member of the royal family.
on a horse, with a lance... you're unbeatable.
some day, i'll be a knight.
there's an army out there, and it's ready to follow you.
hold your tongue or lose it.
you're no longer a myth. you're starting to mean something.
admiring the castle again, i see. isn't it beautiful?
tonight, evil has met its match.
you make me feel like a poet.
i'll ride with you.
this kingdom is better off without the lot of you!
why were they trying to kill you?
no one ever comes back from the woods.
i think it's time we found out what's going on.
i will not lose.
how about a little target practice?
you were right to fear the woods.
choose your last words carefully!
the time for pleasantries is through.
run, and i will run with you.
they wanted to arrange my marriage.
will you dance with me?
i'm sure when i'm older, i'll understand.
you know what we have to do.
what do you think? now that you know what i am?
you speak of what you do not know.
my parents were peasants.
we have a long journey ahead of us.
we should have killed them when we had the chance.
you might find this land a more savage place than you remember.
do you even know how to use that thing?
you have to be of noble birth to compete!
i didn't want to be at the celebration.
i can do magic.
are those catapults?
do you know any spells?
i'm not supposed to be seen with people like you.
minotaurs? they're real?
try and take them then.
help me fetch my arrows.
i'm afraid i'm not worthy of you.
i hear you have a quest for me.
sit with me and drink.
that's a bit of a long story.
there is no way that i am fighting.
i challenge you to a duel.
i wonder who lived here.
maybe it's time you had this back.
you have a traitor in your midst.
meet me in the castle gardens tonight, after the sun sets.
the king sent me.
you stole from the castle?

Iconic elements of Film!Boromir's character that everyone remembers;
Very into Aragorn, has multiple meaningful scenes with him where he is clearly disarmed, awed, unnerved and yet eager for his approval and companionship. His acceptance of Aragorn's right to the kingship is treated as a vital part of his character arc and even his last words before his death are entirely about Aragorn.
Awkward, often stalling or stumbling over his words, says things that leave uncomfortable silences and often makes loud declarations of intent, very earnest in all his mannerisms and always says everything in a guileless way. Very upfront and open about his emotions, to the point of making Aragorn uncomfortable in his attempts to connect with him about his fear for Gondor's safety and his own inner turmoil surrounding his father.
Immediately ring-obsessed. He argues with Elrond about the Ring's usage and clearly is not swayed by further arguments, in fact is sent by his father specifically to get the ring and so is technically a traitorous element in the fellowship from day one. Eagerly ensures he has a place in the fellowship at the Council of Elrond and is blatantly suspicious with his treatment of both Frodo and the Ring from then on. No one in the fellowship trusts him and for good reason.
Kinda a liability! Doesn't really offer anything to the Fellowship other than another sword arm, and one that seems sub-par in comparison to his comrades considering his underestimation of the Hobbits and the multiple times he has to be saved in Moria. Has no real expertise or wisdom to offer, barring obvious declarations like 'this will be the death of the hobbits'. Indeed the one moment of apparent unique wisdom he offers 'one cannot simply walk into mordor' is so widely viewed as foolish advice that it's one of the most enduring memes of the internet to date. Only has one moment of apparent skill in his final stand against the Uruks where he kills about 5 by himself before he is hit by 3 arrows and rendered helpless. Very much characterised as 'the normal guy' and 'the himbo'.
Has a nice, supportive and loving relationship with Faramir, his little brother that looks up to him adoringly and with a sense that he could never measure up to Boromir and that Boromir is his better. Protective of faramir.
Hah that was fun and now, completely unrelated, here are TRUE AND IMPORTANT FACTS ABOUT BOOK!BOROMIR!!
Has one (1) line of dialogue about Aragorn and his kingship that essentially reads 'Well I don't care about Kings but if mythic heroes from legend could come and help my people we'd be grateful (press x to doubt)' and then he NEVER! VOICES A SINGLE OTHER OPINION ABOUT ARAGORN! FOR THE REST OF HIS LIFE. This includes his very last words which don't mention Aragorn or the Kingship once.
Clear-spoken! Makes concise speeches full of relevant and important information when in an official capacity. Always has a tone of well-meaning half-humourous sarcasm, making casual and comfortable jokes at his own expense or sometimes lightly teasing his fellows. Otherwise restrains his disagreements to darkly humourous complaints, strained and weary reactions or clear unemotional declarations of his concerns depending upon the recipient. Takes the phrase 'you'll have to pry my feelings from my cold dead hands' entirely literally, NEVER reveals the true extent of his internal struggles until the moment he is literally dying. In fact is entirely silent whilst Aragorn is asked to describe Gondor and waxes so lyrical he doesn't even notice Boromir get up and leave.
Asks one (1) clarifying question at the Council of Elrond about why they aren't using the ring, accepts the answer entirely and never mentions it again UNTIL Galadriel tempts him with it in Lothlorien. Doesn't even WANT to go on the fellowship and is more dragged along by Aragorn with the pretext that 'Gondor is on the way to Mordor so we'll tag along.' Is utterly trustworthy and has no ulterior motive in arriving in Rivendell other than his search for an answer to his prophetic dream. In fact his whole behaviour and personality changes immediately after Galadriel's mental interrogation and he BECOMES awkward, unnerving and unsure in his speech all of a sudden.
Has a WEALTH of knowledge, experience and personal skill that he uses to save the fellowship multiple times. Saves them all from freezing to death on Caradhras through his preparedness, his arguing with Gandalf and his personal durability. Hacks the head off wargs when they are attacked in the night. Remains lucid whilst the fellowship is paralyzed with fear by the Balrog and stalls it's approach using his horn to allow them time to flee. Fights alongside Aragorn at every opportunity, including charging with him at the Balrog as Gandalf is fighting it. And not only that, he regularly is proven right in his advice (that is rarely heeded) and is well informed on both his own peoples history and Rohan's position, even against Gandalf and Aragorn's doubt of their character. Actually saves Merry and Pippin initially from the Northern orcs whom he drives away entirely before he begins taking them back to the others, is only stalled when they are ambushed by Uruk-Hai. Continues to fight on even with far more than three arrows in him and actually yanks a few out before collapsing against the tree. Definitely not a normal guy, nor a himbo, just exceptional in a more mundane way than everyone else in the fellowship (except the Hobbits).
Never mentions his brother a single time, somehow got him to stand and defend the bridge of osgiliath with him whilst knowing that it would likely kill them both so not all that protective. Faramir meanwhile cannot say a single uncomplicatedly complimentary thing about his brother and in fact cannot stop telling Frodo (a man he has imprisoned for half a day), about what a stupid, reckless and prideful man Boromir was and how he's far better in every single way.
WOW HAHA ISN'T THAT INTERESTING! COOL! Book Boromir is my favourite character by the way haha I'm suffering incomprehensible horrors :)

Do a personal ranking of every damage type in dnd 5e
13. Bludgeoning. now this may strike some of you as controversial but here at that-house it's our heartfelt belief that hammers are for pussies
12. Piercing. arrows and spears? also for pussies
10. Poison. if i wanted to Not Deal Damage i'd be healing people. half the statblocks in the game are immune to this shit. hell, half the commoners in the game probably picked up at least a resistance somehow
9. Thunder. what
8. Fire. look, fireball is nice and all but again. i'm here to HURT people. this is DAMAGE types. stop resisting me. places above thunder damage because Meteor Swarm, like the birgus, fucks hard and fast (that's right, i cited my sources. thank you hbomberguy)
7. Cold. A lot like fire, but, strangely, hotter.
6. Acid. What poison wishes it was. like if fire was a juice. Sexy and destructive. oh yeah baby melt the flesh from my bones
5. Lightning. fuck, man, i just really like lightning. it's probably the most used damage type in my campaign, purely by accident. helps that one of the PCs is immune to it, so he gets to feel cool
4. Necrotic. liches are hot. don't question that previous sentence ok. let's move on
3. Radiant. if you're cool, that's nuclear radiation. if you're cooler, that's pure rage, cleansing wrath in damage form. if you're lame it's basically fire damage but borrowed from god, and that's still pretty cool
2. Slashing. Swords are fucking awesome, man. I'm gonna go live by one sure hope nothing bad happens
1. number one... it's gotta be Force babey!!!!!!!! least resisted/immune damage type, eldritch blast, what can't she do? the F in Force Damage stands for "fuckable" and the M in Magic Missile stands for "i'M gonna use a legendary action to magic missile your unconscious body so that you fail three death saves instantly that's right bitch it's force damage time i'm playing hardball"

I just binged all your Rolan x Tav fics on here (about to go to A03 and give kudos ❤️) and just wanted to say 😩😩 Perfect! AND! I saw you wanted suggestions! i would love to see the first interact/first meeting of Rolan and Tav from his POV if you felt inclined! No pressure! Thank you, keep up the good work! ❤️
I've grown so fond of this vague fem Tav I keep pairing with Rolan...so I hope these pronouns are ok for this request! Tav gets her name finally. (Cal and Lia also barged their way into this one in a big way)
Blades and Spells
A sanctimonious soldier isn't Rolan's idea of a good person to know, but is seems Tav is doing her damnedest to prove him wrong. The day of their first meeting at the Grove.

"We don't even know these people—"
"They're the closest thing we've got to kin, and you know it!"
The bright and promising midday had been punctured by a bloody ambush at the gate. Kanon was dead—a goblin booyagh's arrow and a nasty fall behind the front wall. No doubt his body was still cooling just a short walk from where the three siblings stood inside the shaded mouth of the Grove.
Their caravan's brief respite was shaken by the attack. Zevlor had retreated to strategize; the other Tieflings were on edge, a few downright panicked, the fresh tension around them only fueling the siblings’ words.
It had been weeks since he and Lia had a proper fight—Rolan felt all the pent-up anger rolling out now.
Lia stood with fists braced on her hips. "And what about the goblins? I know you're handy with a spell, Rolan, but I seriously don't fancy our chances alone on the Risen Road."
"Did you not see what just happened?" Rolan said, casting an arm behind his sister toward the gate. "That treasure-hunting idiot just led them right down on our heads. There’s bound to be more, and I don’t want us sticking around to find out how many."
"That’s all the more reason to stay!” Lia’s voice rose to match his. “These people aren't fighters, Rolan. We’d be cowards to leave. We can protect them—we should—"
“Or keep making a scene,” Cal said from the sidelines, to no one in particular. The other Tieflings had grown used to their bickering many miles ago.
Lia was undeterred. "Is this about your precious Lorroakan? Because I promise you, Rolan, he'll still be there when we finally get to Baldur's Gate."
Rolan's voice dripped with sarcasm. "Oh of course not, why would I want to achieve my lifelong dream, see my family finally be safe and provided for along the way—"
"Don't put this on me and Cal," his sister warned. "It's all the same excuse, you'd have left these people yesterday—"
"Because they're not my kin!" Rolan practically shouted, not caring how far his voice carried. "No matter how many times you say it! I'm not going to risk all three of our lives, our futures, on people who can't seem to keep themselves alive. How do you think I'd feel if I let anything happen to you? Either of you?"
"We know, Rolan," Cal interjected, trying to bring a little understanding.
"If you care about me and my future—" Lia jabbed a sharp nail at Rolan's chest—"you won't ask me to turn my back on these people when they need our help."
As Rolan opened his mouth to respond, he caught motion in his periphery. He turned to see an unfamiliar face standing at the edge of their conversation. The stranger rested a hand on her sword pommel, looking on quietly curious at the scene.
"Yes?" Rolan snapped at her. Sticking your nose into a private conversation hardly deserved politeness.
“Wait," Cal piped up beside him. “I saw you at the gate after the goblins."
Lia was quick to follow, disagreement all but forgotten. “You fought out there just now?” She sounded practically jealous. “Sweet hells, that must have been a rush. We owe you.”
"Good timing, that’s all," the stranger replied, shifting her weight a little. From real or false modesty Rolan couldn't tell.
He finally recognized her then—the one he saw speaking with Zevlor for quite a while immediately after the attack. Judging by the flecks of wet blood on her equipment, and on that of her companions behind her, these were the surprise reinforcements he'd already heard other refugees chatting about in energetic tones.
They weren't so impressive in person. Scrappy, in Rolan's private judgment. His eyes passed over the pouting cleric, the murderous-looking Githyanki with a massive sword on her back, the elf who was glancing around himself as though trying to decide which element of his current surroundings he disliked most.
The other wizard looked sane enough, Rolan allowed. He could practically feel the ripples in the Weave all around the man's shoulders. Perhaps Rolan would have a chance at an intelligent conversation in this place after all.
As for the one in front—she smiled pleasantly at Rolan despite having just walked from a goblin ambush. That, to his mind, marked her as the most eccentric of all.
"Tav," she said, extending her sword hand. Rolan glanced down at the dark stains on her fingers.
Wasn't this hovel filthy enough? His clothes already smelled of smoke and grease from days in close quarters; he drew the line at smearing them with goblin blood.
Tav tracked his eyes, letting out an awkward laugh as she moved to wipe her palm on her pants. From beside him, Lia firmly intercepted the handshake.
"Lia. Forgive my brother, you know how wizards are about their robes." His sister's tone was light, but she shot him a look from the corner of her eye.
As if Rolan cared what some passing stranger thought of him. If he’d had his way, they wouldn't be here to have this conversation at all. But Cal introduced himself as well, looking a bit starstruck.
“Well met,” Tav told them, Rolan included. “Sorry, I know I’m interrupting.”
Perhaps sensing Rolan was about to agree, Lia jumped in. “Please. It’s a pleasure to meet people willing to risk their necks for a bunch of strangers, especially Tieflings. You all heading to Baldur’s Gate?”
“Aye. Same as you, I imagine—”
The inanity was enough to drive Rolan mad; it was like their first days on the road from Elturel all over again. He crossed his arms and zoned out as she and his sister made their meaningless smalltalk. He'd rather get his tail stepped on than do this painful getting-to-know with one more person they’d never see again.
Then he heard Lorroakan's name, and his ears perked up.
“He’s taken Rolan as an apprentice,” Cal was telling Tav proudly.
"Have you met Archmage Lorroakan?" Rolan asked her, suddenly interested in the conversation again. Tav looked at him with hesitation.
"Not personally. Gale said—" She glanced down the slope deeper into the Grove, and Rolan realized that the companions behind her had all trickled away in the short moment he hadn’t been paying attention. Seeking rest and recuperation, no doubt. "Gale was saying he's heard of him."
The human wizard, Rolan gathered. Hearing a stranger speak the archwizard’s name somehow rekindled the fire in Rolan’s chest, one he hadn’t realized had grown so low on fuel. He clenched his fist beside his robes and felt the crinkle of Lorroakan’s letter there in his pocket.
Tav was regarding him with a quizzical expression. "I mean, if an archmage that famous has an apprenticeship waiting for you…I guess I can’t blame you for wanting to move on sooner than later."
"Naturally," Rolan said, a bit stiff. It annoyed him that this newcomer could see more sense than his own siblings.
Then she continued. "But Lia's right. You three seem like you can handle yourselves, and I'm not sure the same could be said for everyone here. We'll need every fighting soul to defend against that goblin nest. Especially you—" Tav directed the comment to Rolan. "Having another Weave caster could make all the difference."
Well, so much for sense. Speaking of we and us as if they all had the same goals. A transparent tactic. Rolan wasn't sure what altruistic world Tav had waltzed out of, but he'd heard enough rousing speeches on kinship and unity from people like Zevlor to last him a lifetime. He wasn't about to listen to one from a stranger.
She was correct, however, to acknowledge the value of his skills. No one on the road here had displayed anything close to what Rolan knew he was capable of.
He glanced one more time between his siblings. The set of Lia's jaw told him her mind was well made up. Cal just looked hopeful for a resolution.
Rolan swore. "Fine. We've only taken our damn time getting here, what’s a few more days lost? If we’re lucky, we’ll reach the city with a good story, at least."
"Thank you, Rolan." Lia was meek now that she'd gotten her way.
“You must be quite skilled,” added Tav, sizing him up a bit. "To catch the eye of the Archwizard of Baldur's Gate."
Rolan didn’t miss a beat. "I am.” Cal rolled his eyes over Tav’s shoulder, but Rolan ignored him. “I’ve been manipulating the Weave since I was a child.”
“It’s true,” Lia confirmed. Still feeling guilty about winning the fight, perhaps.
“Really?” Tav broke into a grin, clearly impressed. Rolan drank in the admiration. "Good thing you're staying, then."
Behind his pride, Rolan couldn't help but feel a bit manipulated. Perhaps Tav wasn't the unsophisticated sellsword that she’d appeared at first.
"Well, I should go find the crew before they make too much trouble.” Tav was turning to leave before she paused, sheepish. “Say—don’t suppose druids keep a blacksmith around? One of those worgs’ teeth put a big scratch in my baby here.” As she spoke she looked down at the sword belted to her hip, almost like an indulgent parent.
“Dammon can fix you up,” Lia told her at once. “He’s one of us, a Tiefling. And he’s damn good. Take a left down the hill and you can’t miss him. Follow the loud noises,” she added, with a grin to match.
“Cheers,” Tav told her. “See you all later?”
The three of them watched her figure disappear deeper into the Grove.
"She stabbed a warg right up close,” Lia murmured, sounding morbidly inspired. “That’s incredible.”
Rolan scoffed at her. “Better to kill it from a distance and not damage your most valuable piece of equipment in the process.”
“Hey.” Cal glanced over to his older brother. “Did you even tell her your name?”
Rolan wasn’t concerned. “I’ll tell her later, if she’s still around.” She and her companions would remember his name soon enough—them and all of Baldur's Gate.
In these cramped quarters, it didn’t take long before they encountered Tav again. Her hands swung a bit awkwardly at her sides, as if she didn’t know what to do with them. Her scabbard clanked empty against her greaves; presumably, Dammon was hard at work repairing her blade.
Cal and Lia practically swooped down beside her as she approached. Rolan tried to hide his scowl at their eagerness.
"Have you been around the place yet? Cal and I can show you around, if you’ve got time.”
“I’d like that,” she told them both with a genuine smile. “Perhaps later, if you’re willing? Zevlor told me about your…druid problem. I promised him I’d have a talk with Kagha.”
Who had elected her emissary? Rolan glowered. "I assure you, the druids will tell you it's a foulblood problem."
It wiped the smile from her face, and Rolan found it difficult to feel bad. She wanted to dig through other people's problems? She could get used to uncovering ugly things.
"Yes…well. I'd prefer to keep an open mind," she told him evenly. With another small comment to his brother and sister, she continued on toward the deep clearing where the druids were gathering in preparation for their rite. A place strictly off-limits for Tieflings.
Lia rounded on him. "I swear, you embarrass me worse than Cal sometimes."
Cal frowned. "Hey—"
"Because you care too much about what people think," Rolan answered his sister. "Believe me, she and her people don't care about us. Didn't you hear her little speech before? She only wants more bodies for the fight."
Internally, Rolan was still bristling at the idea that Tav had complimented and cajoled him into staying at the Grove. He didn’t truly believe that was the reason for his decision, but the fact that she’d gotten to him at all unsettled him.
“Come on.” Lia knocked her arm against his playfully, an effort at reconciliation. “I’m just saying, Rolan. It costs nothing to be a bit nicer to people around here.”
Rolan heaved a sigh. Even he was growing weary from all the bickering they’d done today, though he’d never admit that to his sister. “All right. I’ll try, if it makes you happy. But believe me—people like her look after themselves. And I intend to look after us.”
Tav hadn’t been in the heart of the Grove for more than ten minutes before she reappeared, practically stomping up the path from the Kagha’s inner sanctum. Apparently the emissary work wasn’t going so well. Without her sword, her hands were clenched at her sides in empty fists. Her expression was thunderous.
“Have you seen Zevlor?” She asked the three of them as she approached, bypassing the smalltalk Rolan was beginning to expect from her. He directed her back toward the carved door in the corner of the cave.
“Everything all right?” Rolan asked, curious in spite of himself.
Tav exhaled sharp through her nose. “Kagha was having a grand time interrogating a hostage. That little girl, Arabella.”
“What?” Cal’s voice rang with alarm.
“I guess she tried to steal the druids’ carving of Silvanus,” Tav told him. “The one they need for their ceremony. Her mother was nearly out of her mind…the child’s all right,” she added in haste. “Back safe with her parents now, but shaken up.”
Lia quivered with outrage at Rolan’s side. “Thank the hells you intervened.”
“Of course,” Tav replied at once, as if the situation called for nothing less. “I understand it’s the idol of their deity, but by all the gods…Kagha was ready to call her asp down on a terrified child.”
“That fucking viper."
Cal wasn’t referring to the snake; his siblings both glanced at him in surprise. He was a gentle soul, but if Cal cared about anything, it was protecting the young ones.
Tav seemed of the same mind. “There’s something about her,” she agreed with a dark look. Abruptly, she wheeled on Rolan. “What do you think?”
She sought his opinion as a wizard, he realized. All three of them were watching him, in fact, hanging on for his answer.
“Ritual magic is quite different from the Weave,” Rolan replied carefully. “Especially druidic magic. I don’t have the same feel for it. But Kagha…”
He cast his mind back to the first day their bedraggled caravan arrived in the Grove. The lot of them exhausted and bloodied after fighting off goblins and gnolls just up the road. Halsin, the massive elf who was then First Druid, squaring his shoulders above the smaller woman who somehow seemed to tower to his same height.
“She’s powerful,” Rolan decided. “Quite. Where it comes from, I couldn’t say.”
Tav was staring at him with an intensity Rolan hadn’t seen on her face yet. She looked far more intimidating than she had to him before.
But then she let out a thoughtful hum, and her features were back to their usual lightness. “I guess that’s one more reason to find this Halsin sooner rather than later.”
They all watched her take her leave toward Zevlor’s makeshift war room, the stone door sliding shut again behind her.
As the sun dipped below the horizon and a stiff evening breeze picked up at the cave’s entrance, Rolan and his siblings settled toward the insulated back wall of the Grove where Okta was tending hearth. Whatever the old woman had simmering in her massive cauldron smelled a bit like damp wool, but the warmth of the coals underneath was toasty and wonderful against the skin on Rolan’s face and hands.
Cal and Lia were in wistful discussion on either side of him—something about which landmarks of the city they wanted to visit first. Rolan let the feel of the conversation wash over him without hearing the words. His eyes were on the glowing coals, but his mind was also on Baldur's Gate—that and its great archwizard.
You are fortunate, young Rolan. The flourish with which Lorroakan had written his name floated through his mind's eye. Even the parchment itself was heavy and fine, almost promising of better things. Rolan’s fingers brushed the hip pocket of his robes again as if to assure himself. He still carried the letter with him everywhere, though he’d long since memorized its contents.
From behind him Rolan heard the sounds of a friendly disagreement and turned to look. Tav again. He shouldn’t be surprised; the woman seemed to be everywhere today.
Across the path, she was engaged in a polite argument with Dammon at his tent. The smith held a hand up as if refusing something. Rolan caught sight of the polished sword pommel back in her scabbard once more, and surmised that Dammon must be turning down payment for the repair job after her help at the gate today. That seemed like his chivalrous style.
Indeed, Rolan watched her tuck her leather coin purse away and offer a hand instead. Dammon accepted and shook it with a warm smile.
As he continued watching, the two struck up a friendly conversation. Rolan supposed a soldier would find much more to talk about with a smith than with an apprentice wizard. Her hand was draped at rest over her sword hilt again; that seemed to be an idle habit of hers.
He remembered the city guard back in Elturel displaying the same gesture while posted at watch, and wondered whether she might be in a similar line of work. Back in…wherever it was she hailed from.
Insipid questions that Rolan nevertheless filed away in his mind to ask her at some point. If nothing else, it would make Lia happy to see him making an effort. Being nice.
Rolan glanced again at the dark stains on her fingers. She hadn't taken time to wash and rest yet since the fight. It was all over her, goblin blood and human, small flecks of it visible on her clothing and chestplate and even on the side of her face. Didn't she find it unpleasant? It would drive him mad. But it didn't seem to concern her, and Dammon certainly didn't look bothered.
The smith said something that made her laugh then, and a dimple appeared in Tav's blood-spattered cheek.
Dammon had an easy way about him that always seemed to earn him fast friends. Right now, Rolan found he was a bit envious of the trait. He didn't intend to come off as such a prickly ass, as Lia so affectionately liked to call him—though time and again he seemed to manage it.
The constant setbacks between them and Baldur's Gate had just soured Rolan's mood in recent weeks, he told himself. His apprenticeship was all his mind could dwell on at rest, and each delay was harder to bear than the last.
But none of that was really Tav's fault. Inwardly, he could admit that Lia would have talked him into staying on her own anyway. Rolan found himself hoping that he'd made a non-terrible impression on the newcomer.
An elbow in his ribs broke his line of thought. "What?" Rolan looked around, rubbing the spot with a hand.
"I said, you're staring," Cal repeated. He and Lia were both looking at him—Rolan didn't like the expression on either face.
"Shut up," he said, though neither of them had spoken. "She's got blood all over her, who wouldn't?"
"I'm just saying." Cal put up both palms, his eyebrows raised. "From your face, you didn't seem that put off."
"Maybe she’d like to see your Thunderwave, Rolan," his sister suggested.
"You're both idiots." Rolan turned around with arms crossed, watching Okta pluck a dead chicken as though it might be interesting. The idiots on either side were not so easily deterred.
"There’s something about a woman in armor, isn't there, Cal?"
"I've always thought so." Cal leaned a forearm on Rolan's shoulder, sounding quite sincere. "Hey, you could offer to magic the bloodstains off her stuff for her. Use that presto—presti—"
"Prestidigitation," Rolan supplied, eyes still on Okta's cooking. A shockingly good idea from Cal. But it would be strange to offer that to a person he'd just met; Rolan dismissed the thought.
"She should've just taken the time to clean it herself before it all dried," Rolan said aloud. "The way her companions did, no doubt. Instead of running back and forth back here all day."
"Yeah," Lia drawled. "Saving little girls from pit vipers. What a waste of time."
“Well, only one way to find out if she’s interested.” Cal turned around and cupped a hand to his mouth. “Hey, Tav—”
Rolan would have smacked the back of his brother’s head had the woman not already turned toward the sound of her name. She approached their spot near the hearth looking politely curious.
“Lia was just wondering,” Cal started in—leaving Rolan’s name out of it, a smart choice for his skull— “won’t it take a long time to get all the stains out of your armor?”
“Oh.” Tav sounded taken aback, but glanced down at herself as if just now noticing the state of her equipment. “Oh yeah, this’ll cost me a good half hour at least. And probably both my elbows,” she added with chagrin. “Damn. Got distracted by everything, I guess.”
“Because Rolan can magic it off in a second,” Lia said in a rush.
"Really?" Far from averse, she was looking at Rolan with sudden enthusiasm. "I didn’t know magic could—I mean, of course it can. I guess. Why, are you offering…?” She glanced between him and his siblings then, as if finally picking up on the strange energy between them.
Rolan felt all three pairs of eyes come to rest on him. He could hardly back out now. “If you’re interested,” he told her.
“Hells yes,” Tav laughed. “Are you kidding?”
Lia clapped her hands together softly. “Excellent. Well, since Tav’s interested—” She placed a strange emphasis on the word, one Rolan hoped only he noticed— “Cal and I should get going to set up camp. See you both later?”
“Right,” Cal agreed at once. With that, the pair of them slipped off in a few flicks of the tail.
What a couple of damned children. Rolan let out a heavy sigh; they seemed determined to try every last slip of patience he had.
Tav followed him to a spot closer to the back corner of the Grove, a bit removed from the sounds and smells. A stream of cool air seeped in from somewhere outside the walls, and Rolan breathed in gratefully. He had found it hard to concentrate in the stale surroundings of this place.
“Right.” She stood opposite him, looking a bit unsure. “How does this work, exactly?”
“Just keep still,” Rolan advised her. This would be easier if she took off the pieces of her half-plate first, but asking her to do that seemed unthinkably familiar.
She did as he directed. “Sure you’re not going to transform me into a pigeon or something? Give me wings?”
“This is the simplest spell there is, I’m not an idiot.” Rolan’s tone was irritable, but it only made her laugh. He realized that she was teasing him.
Regardless, Rolan steadied his stance and reached out to the Weave. Whether or not it was technically correct, it was the way he’d taught himself.
Breathe in—quiet each thought—feel the air above and the ground below—
Like a warm embrace from the oldest friend, the Weave flowed as a golden light into his cupped hand. Rolan formed the clear intention in his mind and guided the magic toward her.
“It tickles,” Tav said in surprise, but he could tell she was doing her best to keep still. Her eyes were squeezed shut for some reason.
Rolan blinked at her, not sure how long she had expected this to take. “You can—it’s done.”
“Really?” Tav looked across her chest and shoulders and the greaves on her legs, admiring their new shine. “Wow…neat trick, that. So you’re saying Gale’s been watching us polish our armor and weapons every night when he could just use the Weave for two seconds?”
“The manipulation does take energy,” Rolan told her, not wanting to discredit a fellow wizard while he wasn’t here to defend himself.
Her expression changed a bit. Then she reached a hand to his shoulder. “Thanks for this, Rolan. It might be simple to you, but—” She dropped her arm and cast around with a tired laugh. “Life has honestly been…kind of terrible lately. Thank you for making it better.”
Rolan felt he could stand to hear more of that story, but he doubted she'd want to tell it. “You’re welcome,” he told her instead.
It was a bit awkward traveling back through the winding Grove together toward the entrance, but it could hardly be avoided. Their camps were both in the same direction.
The night patrol were watching vigilantly from the wall; the massive carved gate raised before them as if in anticipation. Rolan stepped out into the dark, cool evening with another grateful breath.
Beside him, Tav sighed wearily. "Well, 'night. Off to enjoy my extra sleep," she said with another smile to him before she turned away.
No such easy goodnight for him, Rolan knew. He imagined Cal and Lia perching awake on their bedrolls, eager to hear what chaos or embarrassment or both their meddling had caused for him this time.
More concerning to him right now was the way his shoulder seemed to radiate where she'd placed a grateful hand before. Rolan rolled his arm a little, trying to shake the tingling warmth near his collar bone. It didn't quite work.
But perhaps he'd think about that tomorrow.

Protectbur HC's
A/n: Protectbur is just something I call a very protective C!Wilbur. Maybe it'll catch on after this who knows 💅
Summary: Situationns where some of the -Bur variants get a little protective 🤍
<><><><><><><><><><><>
Vilbur
"Alright Wil, I'm going to Manberg to see Niki."
"Woah woah woah what? No you're not!"
"Wil it's just to see Niki. She's on our side, besides Schlatt isn't even around right now."
"I don't care! You're gonna stay right here where I can see you."
gets very worked up over little things like this
Going out to hunt, mining trips, etc. He doesn't want you accidentally finding one of his detonation sites or setting one off
Mostly his own paranoia rather than him actually trying to protect you
Revivebur
You'd be chatting with Quackity in Las Nevadas or just outside and Wilbur would spot you guys. Him being Quackity's nemesis and your lover would definitely create some immense tension
"Stay the fuck away from Y/N you two-bit capitalist."
"They came to see me!"
"They would never. They know you're a wanker, and a bloody liar. Stay away from them or you'll lose your other fucking eye got it?"
Very violent. Very unhinged
Phantombur
Fancy boi losing his shit? Don't mind if I do 💅
I don't really know the lore in Origins but I know that Fragrance Man is supposed to be sort of a creepy guy and I know there's something with Evilza so I'm looking into it. For now we're just using Fragrance bc we love Schlatt as a villain.
"Mind letting me go?"
"No no no, you smell strange. I need you to come with me so I can investigate."
Basically he'd try and kidnap you and guess what it's dusk so your boyfriend comes swooping from the shadows with a warning shot.
"Where the fuck did the arrow come from?!"
"Where do you think Arachnid?" Phantombur would reveal himself very dramatically and have an arrow notched already pointing over your shoulder into Fragrance Man's throat
"Hey now, no need to get violent there Wilbur."
"What the fuck were you doing with my darling huh Fragrance Man? Care to explain?"
Very menacing, especially with the green eyes glowing and the unfiltered rage
We love a spooky bitch
Simpbur
Obviously he's here. It wouldn't be a protection hc without our favorite yandere-ish variant
"I will blow your fuckin head off if you don't back the FUCK up right now."
Kind of a combination of Vilbur and Revivbur. Very violent and loud and commanding despite his usual background personality
Scares people off very easily with his height and anger. The first time he protected you you didn't know who he was
"Thanks and all but who are you?!"
"Wil Soot. Wilbur really, at your service."
Very formal despite his hammering heart. Kind of had been a stalker for a while so he knew very well how to make you smile
He landed a date with you after this so all's well that ends well...
It didn't end well for the guy that was harassing you to say the least
Ghostbur
Oh...you didn't think ol' Ghostbur could get protective did you? Never underestimate me my dears
"Y/N watch out!" Someone would try and warn you but be a little too late. Well they would anyways. Ghostbur's never late for his darling
"Didn't anyone tell you to stay away from things that aren't yours?"
Very smiley while he tends off whoever tried to harm you. This is the first time he's wielded a sword since he died so you'll have to pardon his disheveled appearance once he's done
"Are you alright?"
"Yea Ghostbur, I-I'm okay now. Thanks."
"Anytime darling."
Huffy puffy Ghosts Boy but he's smiling like a fool now that you're safe

I wanted to throw my 2 cents in before tomorrow about this image. I'm just gonna go over everything that catches my eye and brainstorm a bit about them.
Tubbos skin: As I'm sure we've all picked up on, this is his old skin. It makes me think that this photo might take place in the past? Or maybe the POV person has outdated info? I thought it might have been someone from Tubbos past, but that brings into question the question mark on his photo... does the POV character know Tubbos' name? Or is it another way of questioning his whereabouts?
The "Where are you?" Note: To me this note implies either that this isn't anyone we know since Tubbo isn't exactly hiding or that this is something that happened in that past before Tubbo and everyone got out of the freezer prison.
Arrow & Sword: The main thing I find interesting is that the weapons present seem a little low tech for the federation, like I don't think I've seen a member (that's not a player) use stuff like swords, it's usually guns and tazers and stuff like that. So it makes me wonder if the POV character here is actually with the feds, like maybe they defected or were kicked out or something?
Fred's clothes: I know a lot of people think it's Fred, but unless this is in the past, the "Where are you?" Note wouldn't make any sense. I do think Fred will be involved in the event tomorrow, but I'm not convinced that they are the POV character here.

Aaaah i leave it to you 😫
a/n: I tried to put all my work into it, but I didn't really like it. I hope you will have a different opinion and you will like it, because I rarely write such great works BUT feel free to ask more

Life has taught Y/N to be attentive. The way and where she lived made her grow eyes on the back of her head, as every step of the people around her could become fatal for her. Even though she was worth her weight in gold here, it would be foolish not to be afraid.
Y/N did not know how to handle a sword, fought absolutely terribly and generally preferred quiet walks to noisy feasts. But on the other hand, it was she who pulled out arrows and fragments of swords from the warriors of Kjarton, healed deep wounds and cuts, set dislocated limbs and prepared drugs for the wild hangover that ale brought on the warriors.
It was difficult to find a good healer, but Kjarton succeeded, and he was ready to take care of this girl like hundreds of chests of silver. Like the apple of an eye.
And the healer Y/N enjoyed respect and even some reverence, which seemed to be shared by everyone except Sven.
x x x
Y/N sat at a table in the darkest corner, while the hall and people were drowning in a feast. With her head propped on her hand, she examined the shiny apple, thinking about whether to bite into it or throw it at someone's head.
- Such a holiday, and the little healer is sitting alone, - someone plopped down next to her on the bench, wrapping his arm around her shoulders. -Instead of having a good time.
-Sven,- Y/N turned, clenching her teeth and clenching an apple in her hands. - Fuck off, okay? I'm not in the mood to have fun.
-What about entertaining? For example, me? - Sven grinned nastily, moving closer so that his blond beard tickled her cheek. Y/N twitched, trying to wriggle out of his grip, but it didn't work. But this action made Sven laugh a lot.
-Come on, Y/N, - Sven whispered. - You're so beautiful, so cold... I just want to warm you up a little.
From this phrase Y/N wanted to die on the spot from horror and disgust.
-Go, take a dip in a barrel of water, you drunken pig.- A metallic voice came from opposite.
Opposite, resting his hands on the table, and hanging like a kite over his prey, stood Sihtric. From his look and tone, he clearly wasn't saying this in a friendly manner, rather he was waiting for an excuse from Sven to use his knife.
-Find yourself another girl, you bastard,- Sven waved him off. Y/N twitched even harder, feeling anger rising in her throat.
- You, piece of shit, told you to get lost. Otherwise, the feast in honor of the holiday will turn into a feast in honor of the funeral. Sihtric jerked sharply towards Sven, causing him to cowardly recoil from the girl.
- That's it, I understand. - He raised his hands, got up from the table, looking at Y/N for the last time and silently left.
Y/N also jumped up from the bench, dropping an apple on the table.
-Thank you, Sihtric.- She thanked.
He didn't answer, only nodding his head, still glaring at the healer with hostility.
- Will you walk me to my room? If it's not difficult for you?
He immediately nodded without thinking for a second, and Y/N and Sihtric strode down the empty corridors to the healer's room. Sitric was silent.
- Sven is an idiot. - said Y/ N, quietly. Sihtric made a strange sound.
-He wouldn’t have climbed to you if you had made more efforts not to see him next to you.- The warrior replied low.
Hearing these words, Y/N stopped.
-What are you talking about? -She was indignant. -Do you want to say that it's my fault?
-I said something else, you just...
-I'll go by myself. And I will think about how to make more efforts in order to save my life from drunken freaks. - Y/ N twitched away from Sihtric, feeling like she wants to cry at his unfair words.
-Y/N, wait.- Sihtric breathed heavily, remaining standing in the corridor, realizing how big he screwed up.
x x x
-Hurry up, Y/N! - the maid was dragging her along the corridor by the sleeve.
-Yes, what is it, Oda, what's the hurry?
- Sven sent me for you. He received some serious injury, a healer is indispensable.
Y/N rolled her eyes, but tightened her grip on her supply bundle.
They went downstairs to the main hall, where several of Kjarton's men were sitting.
-What happened? -Y/N frowned, going up to Sven, putting his things next to him.
- Call to Eir, healer, - Sven's voice was so feigned that I wanted to cry. - It seems... It seems that my arm was broken, and the pain pierces my body. Save me, beautiful maiden!-He grabbed Y/N by the waist.
-Don't talk nonsense,- Sihtric approached them, slapping Sven on the shoulder, which supposedly hurt. - You just tripped over a root and fell into the hole like a bag of shit. Go, Y/n, you are not needed here.
Y/N's eyebrows twitched. She turned slowly to Sihtric, burning him with her eyes. He looked anywhere but at her.
- No, Y/N, don't go. I didn't let you go.- Sven grumbled.
- I have patients with more serious problems than lying in a hole, Sven. I'm really leaving, thanks for the tip, Sihtric. -Y/N gathered her things and hid in the doorway.
The first snow fell from the sky, it was cool. Y/N twitched her nose at the smell of frost.
-Wait,- Sihtric caught up with her.
-Wait.-Y/N stopped abruptly, turning to face him. -What to expect? So that you say something nice again, how can you?
Sihtric rolled his eyes.
-I just want to say that you see how Sven behaves. Can you just...just not give in to his provocations? You're a smart girl, but you're acting like a little fool who doesn't understand what's going on.
-Since when do you worry so much about this?- Y/N chuckled.
Sihtric rolled his eyes.
-Apparently, you really are a fool, Y/N. - He spat sharply, turning around and leaving.
The blood boiled in the veins of Y/N. Why has he been acting like this lately? What's going on with Sihtric?
- Sihtric!
x x x
Y/N hasn't seen Sihtric for several days. But she saw Sven perfectly every time she left her room. And every time the Gods sent Y/N more and more fears, the soul told her that something was brewing.
Y/N looked out the window. The snow was falling even harder, turning into a snowfall. The trembling made its way to the very bones, the frost pinched the skin, I wanted to sleep.
-You will freeze and die.- Sihtric said as he approached her.
- Yes ... it’s sad to die a complete fool. - Y/N answered.
Sihtric exhaled noisily.
-Come on, tell me that everywhere and everywhere I am to blame, Sihtric. And tell Sven the only time he can hit on me is when I learn how to kick him in the balls.
-I was rude to you...
-That's putting it mildly! -Y/N turned to face him. -All you've been telling me for the last month is that I'm a fool who is to blame for the fact that my master's son, a one-eyed bastard, wants to turn me into a comfort rag doll. Thank you Sihtric, I've heard that from you before.
-I got excited.
-Thanks for acknowledging. I will comfort myself with this.
Sihtric opened his mouth as if about to say something. He tightly gripped his ax in his hands, looking at Y/N's face.
- We'll talk later, Y/N. I still have things to do.” He lowered his head as he said it low.
-But…-Y/N's shoulders slumped, and her eyes widened in disappointment, as if expecting what Sihtric hadn't told her. -But I…
But Sihtric had already left, burning with the desire to open his chest from his own stupidity, tear out the heart and present it to her. Instead of a thousand words.

Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3
Part 4
Warnings: Violence, Blood
Y/n had no idea how things escalated so quickly. It was supposed to be an easy rescue mission. Since it was already late, they could use the darkness as an advantage.
Deviants were slightly dimwitted, but they were known to have the best and strongest weapons the community could ever have. The Avengers used to steal from their weaponries during rescue missions until one of the first Avengers, Tony, learned the art of being a Blacksmith, and had by far crafted weapons that stood equally against Deviants' own.
The temporary camp the enemies had set up was already quiet, snorings and the crackling of fire filling the air. Bottles of  rum were strewn on the ground, giving the conclusion that they just did a whole night of celebration.
The Avengers that were captured by the Deviants earlier were placed inside man-made cells along with the witches.
Before infiltrating the site, Y/n learned that the Deviants had once again attacked a nearby village who had witches residing — witches who had disguised themselves as humans for years. Apparently, Deviants had begun sending out assets just to spy every village, pretending to be a citizen, be it a lone stranger looking for a place to sleep, or a group of individuals introducing themselves as a family.
Clint, the leader of the assigned Avengers sent for the mission, and a lot of others failed to evacuate the people during the attack when one of the witches hesitated to cooperate. They were short in arms when the battle started earlier. Some Avengers had managed to escape and brought the news back to the camp. Henceforth, backup was urgently requested — backup in which Y/n, her best friend Yelena, Pietro and some other volunteers joined.
"And there goes the last Deviant," Yelena whispered with a soft chuckle, watching the Deviant taking the nightwatch fall unconscious to the ground, the empty pint of beer slipping from his hands. "I think we're clear to go."
The blonde stood up from her crouching position and began her descent towards the camp. But before she could leave, Y/n held her wrist.
"Be careful," Y/n said, concerned for her best friend's safety.
"You be careful. Don't forget, I am better than you in real combat," Yelena replied, a smug smile on her face.
Shaking her head while laughing softly, Y/n let the blonde go.
"I'll signal you once done."
Y/n nodded, watching Yelena go forth. The human had her hands ready on her bow and arrow, ready to shoot if ever things go wrong.
Yelena was assigned to steal most of the Deviants' weapons within reach just to bide time in case all hell breaks loose. The blonde was an expert at being stealthy, quiet as a mouse.
"I'm sorry about my sister," Pietro spoke beside Y/n, making the human lose her focus. "W-Wanda can be stubborn when she wanted to be . . . But I swear she didn't mean to say those things to you earlier—"
"There's really no need for you to apologize on her behalf," Y/n cut him off, her eyes directed at Yelena picking up the fallen swords from the sleeping Deviants. "She has a right to her own opinion, to whom she'll give her trust. And if I'm not that person or any human for that matter, well, it's okay."
Pietro let out a sigh, loosening his hold around his sword. "Wanda has a traumatic past as much as me, with what happened to our parents and all. But she never got to go outside her own world, she never got to meet and know good humans like you and the Avengers growing up, so she pretty believed that all humans are Deviants in nature."
Y/n pursed her lips, remembering the witch that has been consuming most of her thoughts for the past few days. In all honesty, she had given up trying to make amends with Wanda the second she said those harsh things about her earlier. If the witch didn't want anything to do with Y/n, so be it.
She had other important things to worry about, such as the current mission.
Y/n was about to reply to Pietro when the first torch was put out by Yelena. Then the next, and the next, until the last one where Yelena finally gave her the look — the signal.
Clint was still wide awake when he noticed the torches suddenly went out. He was in one of the nearest cells from the entrance.
He could see Y/n and the others began creeping their way into the camp. He waved towards them, then gestured a hand signal warning that there were two sleeping Deviants guarding beside the cell.
Y/n immediately began to work, tiptoeing across sleeping Deviants just to get to the cells. And when she had finally reached where Clint was situated, she began to silently pick the lock to his cell.
One thing Y/n was also good at besides archery was picking at locks. She actually learned on her own when she was just a kid, what with a lot of experience being locked up in her bedroom by none other than her own brother whenever she wanted to go out with her friends for late night mischiefs.
Once opened, Clint nodded in gratitude towards her before he led the witches out the cell in an orderly quiet fashion.
Y/n moved towards the next man-made cells, carefully opening the locks without making any noise. The other Avengers assisted the rescued ones after the cells were opened. Terrified witches followed with haste, wanting to get away from the awful place.
Everything was going well so far. They had somehow managed to evacuate most of the captured until in one last remaining cell, Y/n was immediately attacked by one male witch who jumped and strangled her the moment she managed to open the doors.
"You normies are the reason for all this," he spat, nostrils flaring as he gripped Y/n's neck tight. "We were just peacefully going through our day and you humans came along and destroyed it, destroyed our homes."
Y/n held the witch's wrists, conserving oxygen. "S-Sir, this is certainly not the time for an argument, w-we're actually here to save all of you—"
"Why should I believe any lie coming of your mouth, human?"
"Vision, what the hell?" Pietro silently hissed behind them.
The male witch named Vision let Y/n go when Pietro pushed him off her. "Piet? You're one of them?"
"We've got to hurry—"
"Avengers!" Someone shouted through the air, causing a loud commotion as Deviants had awaken.
Y/n immediately ducked the three of them when three flying daggers almost hit their heads, going through the tree trunks behind of them instead. "Stay low and get the others to safety, Piet," Y/n ordered.
Pietro nodded as he led the other witches out from their cells, Vision following him behind with hesitation. Hopefully, he wouldn't cause any more trouble to the group.
Yelena hiding the enemies' weapons bought the Avengers some time for the others to escape and for Y/n to get to the best hiding spot where she could cover for them.
It didn't even take that long when the Deviants had already managed to get their weapons back or they seemed to have backups in hand.
Fighting then ensued.
Avengers fought against the Deviants, steel clashing against steel. Y/n stayed behind a bush as she helped. Arrows were quickly reloaded from her quiver, making its way to the targets in front of her. It was so easy, Y/n could literally smell victory when she had managed to shoot Deviants without them knowing where she was.
One of the Avengers was cornered when his sword was sent flying to the air, but Y/n was quick to hit the attacking enemy. It seemed all too good to be true.
Unaware that one of the Deviants had already found her hiding place, Y/n was not fast to avoid the dagger that went to her sides.
The human staggered backwards as she looked at the weapon lodged into her, slowly getting away from the enemy. Her only weapon fell from her clutch. But the Deviant only laughed, managing to corner her before taking the dagger off from her body. Like a wine bottle being unscrewed open, blood erupted from her skin, the blinding pain shooting through Y/n's entire body almost instantly.
That's a weird sensation, Y/n thought, her hand gripping the wound tight as she eventually fell to the ground.
Down her mask went and the Deviant abruptly stopped on his tracks, as if suddenly consumed with fear upon recognizing her face.
Another Deviant made an appearance behind him, wondering what was taking him so long.
"What have you done?" the man asked in disbelief.
"I didn't know it was her!" the attacker argued, his voice breaking.
After a moment, the man began shouting to the group, "Fall back! Deviants, fall back!"
Avengers were left in confusion as the retreating Deviants hurriedly left the area.
Pietro immediately went looking for Y/n, who he found already sprawling on the ground just a minute later, bleeding to death.
Kneeling before her, his hand instinctively went to put pressure on her wound as he tried to stop the bleeding. It was as if she was cut open for the amount of blood coming out of her.
"Y/n, hey, look at me," Pietro slapped her face, the human already losing consciousness. "Wake up, Y/n!"
With wide eyes upon seeing his friend sputtering blood from her mouth, he then began screaming for help.
WANDA hadn't slept since her brother left, waiting anxiously at the camp's entrance or in her brother's tent for their return. When one of humans suggested for her to get some sleep, she finally relented. She also couldn't handle another minute listening to Layla gossip about how Y/n courted her.
However, sleep didn't come naturally. Tossing and turning on her bed, she groaned in frustration, her mind filled with fake scenarios of Pietro getting hurt. Then came Y/n's face — her annoyingly adorable pretty face.
When Pietro told her about Y/n's family and that they were killed by witches like her, she couldn't extinguish the guilt she felt. Y/n was no different than Wanda and Pietro, yet Y/n was still nice to her. And if something happened to her during the mission, Wanda wouldn't be able to forgive herself.
Wanda didn't mean anything she had said to the human. Of course, Y/n was capable to fight and defend herself and the group. But why was Wanda still worried?
Wanda was able to get probably half an hour of sleep when she woke up suddenly to the sound of a commotion outside her tent.
When she hurriedly barged outside, Pietro was about to enter his own tent.
"Piet!" she called, making the twin look at her. She immediately ran towards him, arms looping around for a hug.
It was early dawn when the Avengers had returned safely to the camp. Or so Wanda thought before she pulled away from the hug and noticed the blood on her brother's tunic.
"Are you okay? You're bleeding." Wanda further checked to assess the damage but Pietro wasn't flinching at all. He held Wanda's wrists to stop her.
"It's not mine, sis," was all he said, his voice deflated.
"What do you mean it's not yours?"
Pietro hesitated for a moment, but Wanda knew her brother as if she could read his mind.
"Where's Y/n?"
"Wands, she's—"
But Wanda was already making her way towards the nurse's tent without waiting for a reply, Pietro calling and running after her.
The moment Wanda saw Y/n being tended by Pepper inside the tent, which was also filled with other injured individuals, she felt like fainting on the spot. She didn't know why a human could affect her this much.
Maybe Y/n had warmed her way into the witch's heart after all.
Wanda released a breath she didn't realize she was holding when she saw Y/n's chest rise and fall. Relief flooded her.
The witch instinctively went inside, just to be there for the normie, only to be stopped by someone with blonde hair she recognized as one of Y/n's friends or girlfriends.
"Visitors are not allowed inside while Pepper is at work," she warned.
"Is she going to be okay?" Wanda asked, worried.
"Y/n is a tough one," she replied, her voice softening. "Yeah, I think she'll be just fine. Your name's Wanda, right?"
Wanda could only nod, her eyes not straying away from you.
"I'm Yelena, Y/n's best friend. She told me a lot about you."
Her eyes averted to the blonde. "She did?"
Yelena smiled. "Yeah, she said you have the most angelic voice she has ever heard, maybe you could come sing during dinner serenades at the pavilion."
Wanda's heart rate accelerated as her face blushed. She was thankful that it was still dark, for it would have been too obvious.
When Wanda saw Pepper perform something more like a spell, she gasped in wonder. "Is Pepper a—"
Yelena nodded yes without waiting for her to finish.
Wanda had no idea Pepper was a witch. And if Y/n trusted a witch to be the healer of the entire camp, Wanda should also trust that not all humans were as ruthless as the Deviants.
MEANWHILE, in one of the Deviants' headquarters, a tall man with long dark hair was found eyeing the dark forest ahead the murky vast glass window. The place had a strange aura emanating towards the surroundings, with dead trees circling outside as if the soil was cursed and anything within reach would only succumb to death. Black crows were perched on dry twigs, watching the gates before them, acting either as guards or spies.
"I'm so sorry, Master, I didn't know it was her, it was all too fast," someone behind the man spoke in a hurry. The man, master, only let out a long sigh as he finally turned to look at the source. The accused man was kneeling before him, head bowed down just to avoid his eyes.
The master only pursed his lips, looking left to right, followers standing in front of him trembling in fear. After a moment, he said, "It's okay."
All the Deviants looked at him, confused. Until he went on further, "It's not your fault you're stupid."
Then he signaled to the one beside the kneeling man to proceed. The follower didn't hesitate another second before slicing the head off the sinned man with his sword.

Nimona appreciation post (Part 3 of idk even know how many)
Tumblr media
Hi guys, I'm back with Part 3. Sorry about the delay, I tend to procrastinate even if something has to do with my newest hyperfixation lol (Pic for attention, like always lol)
at the beginning he says to Amb that he's not brooding and now he tells Nimona that "Knights don't mope, they brood."
"Murder him, murdder her, murder everyone!" aaand there is Amb standing int the door and Bals pose XD
Amb lil smile when he sees Bal. He probably thought that he killed Bal and seems glas that he's not
Also him just looking at Bals arm
Nimonas lil "Gesundheit" is way better in the english version ngl
Nemesis 😈
"Oh, look! It's Gloreth!" and the knights behind them actually look in the direction she pointed at
Amb acting like he was about to draw his sword and looking like they just caught him doing something forbidden like I don't even know
Bals almost defeated face at the beginning of the closet scene
Nimona just casually ripping that pipe out of the wall
Bals hamster cheeks when she grabs his face
that die-in-the-closet-dialogue felt very strange to me but I still don't completely understand how people can hate people who have a different orientation than them (sexual or not, I don't know how to say that exactly but I hope you kinda understand me?). There shouldn't be a problem about dying in a closet in real life and I really understand why people are so close-minded and this is still happening, I guess. Why does this "kids movie" motivate me to think about this kind of issue so much? But I guess it's a good thing, I'm probably/definitely not the only one who watched Nimona and really started to think about this (and the other themes of this movie)
also Nimona literally coming out of the closet (as a shape-shifter) is like really nice, I love little things like that in movies that you maybe not even register at first
I like to think that the axe opening the door is a little "Shining" reference
Nimona casually catching the arrow before her face
Bal being the competent idiot that he is grabbing the first thing his hand finds to use as a weapon without even looking
"Even if you see the horn?"
"I will not freak… Uhhh" with that face XD
I just looove her line "This is the part where you run.", how she looks at the knights and how they start to panic
Bals face while getting out of the closet is like: What the everloving hell did just happen/is just happening?
"Yeah" "Oh no! Stay away! Get back! No! This is not happening!" XD
Amb just being bamboozled and proving that he's at least a bit of a Nerd (who other then a Nerd or a Zoologist would call a Rhino by it's full name)
"Leave that guy alone!" "Take that" bonks him away with her horn lol, they are such a good duo
Stairs are either your best friend (Nimona seemingly) or your worst enemy (Kungfu Panda)
Bal just being completely like a fish out of water by what is happening during that chase is also kinda hilarious
Also him still having the brain to tell her she needs to go right in all of this mayhem is very competent of him, I stan him just a bit ngl
the whale
hey def needed a meeting table that round, they are a kingdom of knights
loving that Todd gets the tiny d*** joke, one of the best jokes in the movie and this movie has a lot of good ones
THE MUSIC <3
Now he wants the staircase, Bal really should make up his mind XD
I'm a bit sad that the original BlueSky-Scene where she changes into a dragon didn't make it in there but this is also fine, I guess
How did Bal survive that fall?
also loving how he just slides the last few metres face down lol
Nimona looking at Bal before she says her "Something, something, something, we win." was kinda cute
Explosions! "Metal" Also: stuff like this reminds me of a kind of old scetch from a comedian (I know the guy from some youtube vids of different poetry slams but he is a comedian now) I like pertaining bear catapults (I def will get myself some tickets if he ever does a show near me, the guy is hilarious)
Bal looking kinda chill (he prob has a concussion and isn't quite there, I guess) at the different things that fly towards them and then focusing on that little bit of debris that knocks him out (and the sound he makes when he gets hit) lol
Sooo, that was it for part 3. Short I know, but I think I will try to get these posts out and ngl my attention span is a bit short at the moment… with this kind of post thats more on the short site I believe I can stay on the topic and not procrastinate that much. Maybe there will also be some longer ones inbetween, we will see. Have a good one guys ^^

A Player's Aid: Chapter 11
Fandom: Legend of Zelda, Linked Universe
A/N:....I'm just sorry OUYDBUDHD but also my tag list got lost, if you could please say if you'd like to be tagged in the comments! (I know I can look at previous chapters but I lost some new names and it would be easier to build from scratch so I have it HDOCDHJ)
Warnings: Foul language, descriptions of gore, violence and mentions of injuries
Enjoy!
The effect was immediate.
The sound of many boots against concrete was deafening and your vision blurred as Hyrule tugged you along, his grip still tight as you stumbled after the men in the direction of the castle.
The Hero's instinct is what you deduced, it’s what powered these boys. To jump so readily into action, unafraid of what was to come- these men had a mission to protect the people of Hyrule and you admired everything they did for them. Not even Wind flinched at the scream, didn't hesitate like the others as they raced away from the Sacred Ground, you tumbling along almost unable to keep up with Hyrule's speed (Jesus christ these fuckers were fast-)
You finally broke through the treeline to see the scene before you- horrid and bone-chilling as it played out.
A lone adventurer had seemed to be downed, blood running down a deep gash on their arm in rivers as they tried desperately to claw away from the behemoth of a creature, hissing and spitting towards them as it stalked closer, the giant skull on its back just as intimidating as its many eyes and snapping fangs.
Skulltula were always intimidating enemies in theory. Spiders were already scary, making them the size of a horse with a withering skull on their back, legs similar to knives and pincers dripping with what you could only guess to be venom only made them even more terrifying- you didn’t want to shame the Zelda graphics, but there was no way, from the deepest and darkest depths of hell they could even begin to bring justice to the creature that stood before you all.
"Not a fucking Skulltula…" You whispered in a blood-freezing horror, ducking behind Hyrule when it turned towards your group, seemingly hearing your words. "Christ on the cross, set it alight."
With another hiss, it dashed in your direction, your whole body locking up only for it to cry out in pain as an arrow landed right in one of its many eyes, the group dashing forward with Hyrule removing something from his pocket and pressing it into your hands: a dagger.
"Stay here." He held your cheek softly. "I'll be right back."
He turned towards Wild, situated in front.
"I've got them." The blonde reassured, sending him a knowing look. "Don't worry."
With a firm nod, Hyrule ran to the group sword at the ready with a pat on Wild’s shoulder, your eyes wide in awe as you watched him hurl a phantom red projection of his sword right at the gigantic monster, its shrill calls making you cringe.
As its wails pierced the air, you could vaguely see Sky raise the Master Sword with a calculating look on his face, an almost holy light climbing up the length of the sharpened blade until a familiar sound reached your ears and the hero slashed across the air, the sight of a skyward strike cutting through the lengths of grass and slicing one of its many legs clean off its body, the appendage flailing before disintegrating into dust as the monstrous bug got even louder.
Sickening to see this close.
"Stay behind me." It was a soft order but you weren't about to defy him, slightly ducking behind him as he continued to aim at the Skulltula, the men fighting valiantly. "I promise to keep you safe."
You dug your fingers gently into his tunic. "I know you will, no need for promises."
His ears fluttered subtly at the words.
Watching the guys fight up close was much better than watching from afar, you could have only imagined just how amazing the fight from the riverside bokoblin must have been- breathtaking would have been too small a word to use, there wasn't any word the dictionary that could begin to perfectly describe how the boys fought. Calling it a movie scene would have been underrated, no, it was an art piece even with something as pathetic as a Skulltula, these men looked as if they had just been plucked from the Renaissance itself and you almost went breathless as you continued to bear spectacle to the scene.
Their footwork, their swings, the looks on their faces- they were heroes alright, not a doubt in your mind would refute that. Wild's steeled gaze and the way he handled the bow were just so amazing to you, he was a professional of course but there was an energy about him, not the goofy wild man but the hero that bore the Triforce of Courage.
You were in the presence of some of the strongest men in the current world…
Twilight and Warriors had rushed over to the fallen victim while the others had continued with the battle, arm over each shoulder as they had hauled them further away with reassurances of safety, appearing close to your side as they fished into their bags for a potion to deal with their wounds. The gash on their arm was horrible but the apparent one on their side was worse, bleeding profusely and long, your stomach churning at the mere thought while Warriors called for their attention, deeming this “no place to die.”
…You weren’t about to see someone die, were you?
The idea sickened you to the core.
A cry echoed out as Hyrule used a nearby boulder to leap onto the back of the great beast, the shrill shrieks of the horse-sized spider bloodcurdling as the Hero raised his bejewelled sword and thrust it into its head, tainted blood gushing onto the grass below leaving a bloody mess.
Your heartbeat pounded in your own ears as the monster screamed.
A horrid sound, disgusting and gut-wrenching, you felt even more nauseous as you were able to hear the faint sound of a popping squelch as your hero dug the sword deeper and deeper, blood spurting onto his forest green tunic and catching some of the other boys also.
From your vantage point on that cliff, the destruction of these creatures wasn't something that had gotten to you but seeing this was way worse than your own imagination, no matter how majestic the men looked as they fought, this was still disturbing when the valiant filter was pushed aside. This wasn’t the pg-rated game any more, the one you would play for hours when you were younger, not a care in the world as you gathered the convenient drops- this was real life, these were real living things-
And this was real gore.
You gagged, hiding your face into Wild’s shoulder to force away the morbid curiosity as the other heroes continued to beat down the monster, its shrills engraining into your mind as one of the boys dealt the finishing blow.
(It had been Legend, watching Hyrule flail about as the Skulltula tried to rid him of its back, the man sliding down beneath the monster while digging his weapon into its stomach as he skidded against the grass, opening a mortal wound that had entrails spilling from its underbelly)
The familiar sound of a monster’s corpse poofing away was what brought you back, shyly peaking over Wild’s shoulder as you watched Legend stand, the stains of his tunic a gruesome eyesore that dusted away in the wind along with the smoke of dark magic that was once the Skulltula, Hyrule’s own caked clothes cleaning in a similar fashion until both were free of the thick, murky substance that was monster blood and huffing from the fight. The two looked at one another, conflicting feelings dancing on their faces until they nodded at one another, a sign of acknowledgement in their tense times.
You felt embarrassed at the shaky sigh you released, Wild looking back at you worriedly as you took a step back to compose yourself.
Why were you even scared? It’s not like you contributed to the fight in any way.
“Are you well?”
“Y-Yeah- yeah I’m good.”
His brows furrowed, his hand coming to hold yours. “You can talk to me.”
Your thumb gently danced over his knuckles. “It’s just…scary seeing them up so close.”
Cringing at his soft expression, your free hand moved to rub at the back of your neck.
“Monsters are a disturbing sight to many, you don’t need to be embarrassed for your reaction.”
“I know I just don’t like being some sort of damsel- I can’t fight but I’ve got enough sense to know how to protect myself and it just feels ridiculous and sad hiding behind you like some scared kid.”
It wasn’t a fault of yours, of course, especially in the presence of such skilled fighters it made sense but you couldn’t help it- you felt inferior, you felt weak, you hated having to hide behind your friend and you wished that you could at least stand beside him, a partner more of a cowering fool.
Wild hesitated, his mouth pursing in thought when both your attention drew to coughing close by, the presumed random traveller spluttering as the ranch hand and Captain pulled them into a seated position, the group circling her.
“Are you alright?” Twilight asked, a supporting hand on the person’s back. “Are you able to speak?”
“Yes.” The young woman coughed, covering her mouth with her arm, “Yes, thank you, I thought those moments would be my last.”
A shiver run down your back at the thought of something as hideous as a Skulltula being the last thing you saw before your body grew cold and stiff- would it eat you in that state? Could Skulltulas even eat?
“Do you know of what became of the people here?” Straight to the chase, Time leaned down to the level of the woman, face gentle similar to your shared first interaction, a show of support from such a traumatizing moment. “It was filled with many but now it lays barren.”
Her face curled in confusion. “You mean…you’re not here to help us?”
Your stomach dropped.
Help with what?
She continued. “The head of the people sent a bird not two days ago- we were attacked, by these things-”
“The Skulltula?”
“Yes- they came in every direction, there were so many, we couldn’t run so we held up in the castle-” Warriors rested his hand gently against their shoulder, a soft mutter of ‘breathe’ leaving his mouth as the person panted, her shaky breaths slowing in an effort to calm her racing heart. “There was an opening and I took it when no one had responded then I got caught by that monster- I- I thought you were responding to our call-”
Time’s face had hardened with each word, his scowl like his sharpened sword. His anger was evident, the lingering tension in his shoulders shown even under that heavy chest plate; you knew why, everyone did, it was very much obvious this was the work of the Shadow, predictable and vile, coming for the public like the coward he was to draw out the many heroes for his own gain and entertainment.
This was a trap.
And a very obvious trap.
And he dragged innocent civilians into this mess.
“Can you stand?”
The woman stumbled over herself before nodding, pushing to her full height with the help of the other elders.
“Good- leave to the nearest Inn, we will clear the castle.”
Your mouth dropped at the words, looking towards the towering Hyrule Castle in horror.
The whole thing!?
“T-The entire castle?! But that’s not possible!”
Not possible for most, but then again these were the Links you were talking about, heroes of the times- if they had fought against Ganon, Demon King and bringer of Darkness, of course, they could fight off a few Skulltula.
A few dozen sounded a bit of a stretch though.
“We’ll be fine.” There was a cocksure attitude to Warrior’s words, his smile confident and eyes sparkling with his fighting pride. “A few giant insects won’t be getting the best of us.”
Oh yes, he did sound very cocky indeed- you wondered if the woman was judging him silently from his tone, god knows you would have had you not known he was a great hero.
She tried to argue more, stumbling over her words and trying to reason however it reached deaf ears her stance slowly falling as the group began to discuss their next plans- Wild was the focal point of this, after all this was his home and he knew it like the back of his hand, planning a rescue mission was going to fall to him.
You studied her for a moment now that you could- pale skin, black hair and dark eyes, just a regular-looking adventurer who seemed to be caught on the wrong side of things.
Something felt…off though. Maybe it was just your skewered sense, or your simple wary nature after being thrown through a magic portal by a magic shadow.
It felt like one of those scenes in movies: discovering the wounded adventurer, aiding them in their time of need and watching as the hero lets them accompany them on their quest, after all, it’s not a hindrance right? Betrayal would usually follow, disguised by that weak damsel now shown to be their deceitful enemy this whole time, tearing apart the group by the seams and leaving them all to rot with nothing but a prideful cackle.
Yet, that was the work of fiction, this was real life (such a strange thought now that you pondered it) and so nothing like that would happen, right?
“Please, let me at least join you!”
…right?
Your eyes narrowed, watching the expression on her face then shifted to study the rest of the men, sharing uncertain glances with each other.
Did they feel a similar unease or did they simply want to keep this woman safe?
“I don’t think that’s for the best-”
“My family is in there! My friends too! I’m not just gonna sit by while they’re suffering!”
Any persuasion was met with refusal, the woman becoming only angrier with every second until Time let out a sigh, steeling his gaze as he looked down at the woman.
“Your name?”
She stood taller, “Maggie.”
“Do you even know how to handle a weapon that hangs off your hip?” This was a test, you could tell, the complete shift in his personality was a warning of sorts for what was to come- you would reasonably back down from such a hard look and you were positive that was what Time was trying to do. “Fought any monsters? Been in any battles?”
It didn’t work, as shown when Maggie glared right back. “I’m fully capable of taking care of myself.”
“Seems you can’t.” Legend quipped and Time sent him a scolding look, the pink-streaked blonde throwing his hands with a look of surrender. “I’m just saying we saved you.”
She flushed a deep red “I was by myself but if I’m with you guys I should have a chance- strength in numbers.”
Your eyes stayed trained on Time as he listened intently, the others sharing different glances with one another as they waited for their chosen leader to finalise his decision, your shoulders dropping when he sighed in defeat, dragging a hand down his tired face.
“....Maggie, I will be responsible for you if you venture back into this castle with us- so, you must stay close and not stray far, no matter what you see, is that understood?”
“Yes, sir.”
“Good, we move now.”
“Old-” Twilight’s mouth snapped shut, eyes averting from the flaming ones of the eldest. “...”
With a sigh, the man backed off, whistling for Epona who perked up happily, trotting back over to the forest. "I'm not taking her in there."
And you couldn't blame him, not with the threat of something like Skulltulas lurking around the castle halls, Epona could be jumped without a second thought- but leaving her alone wasn't an option, someone had to watch her just in case, right? So taking Gilda gently from your hair, you gestured her over.
"It'll be safer for you with her."
She crossed her arms. "(Name), I've been in more fights than you."
"...Gilda please-"
"I'm just teasing! I'll keep an eye on her, you've already got your fairy by your side~"
Had Hyrule been in hearing range you knew he would have swiped at her, so you spared her a chuckle and watched her whizz off after the ranch hand with a shake of the head.
"Should have guessed these fairies were just as cheeky as the fae."
Time glanced back over to Maggie, gesturing her forward once Twilight had returned, adorned with weapon and shield. “I want you to lead us, if you were able to escape then there may be a good chance that it was a blindspot to the monsters.”
You didn’t trust this, not a single bit. Your radar was going haywire, your body pumping the adrenaline into every little crevice within your body, hands shaking as you watched Maggie take the lead, the others slowly but surely following behind her until you were trailing right at the back with your fingers tightly secured around the dagger Hyrule had only given you moments ago.
The traveller had rejoined your side in haste, eyes ahead as his hand came to grab your own protectively, Wild marching on your opposite with a similar protective sense hanging over him.
“He’s got a plan…”
Hyrule muttered more to himself than anyone but Wild wasn’t far behind with his scepticism.
“A dangerous one- thought that was supposed to be my job?” The comedic tilt in his voice did not aid you at all, Wild’s face pinching in worry at your expression. “We’ll keep you safe, I promise.”
You knew they would, they were your heroes and you knew they would do anything to keep you safe.
Yet something told you that it wasn’t going to be that simple.
~~~~~~~~~~
You wouldn’t say you suffered from arachnophobia. Sure, you weren’t a fan of the things, but not in a way to say you had a fear of them. They were certainly freaky looking, eight eyes, eight legs, could produce cobwebs and drunk the blood of flies and other such small insects- but a true fear of them was not what you had, nowhere near. You had seen someone with the phobia, their dropping jaws and the way they raced to the opposite side of the room-
To avoid the tiny money spider that hadn’t even gotten close to them.
That was true fear- that fear would have had them dying right on the spot at the sight before you at this very moment.
The webbing was huge, like sheer curtains decorating the old stone walls of the castle, the few egg sacs a disgusting sight as the men cleared them out, the many Walltula shrieking and spitting fiercely only to die by the steel of the heroes’ blades, monster smoke almost thick enough to choke on.
It was terrifying how quickly the monsters had seemingly taken over, not a place in sight was free of the streams of natural mesh, over the carpets, over the paintings, over the windows and in the doorways- suffocating was the best way to describe it all, especially from the number of times you had walked into the cobwebs, spitting and waving your arms in a horrid frantic boogie to be rid of the texture.
Wind could only laugh so many times.
“Shut the fuck up, Wind.” You had whispered harshly, patting down your tunic once again. “You’re only laughing because you’re too fucking short to get hit by them.”
He waved off your insult with another hushed laugh. “You just look so fucking stupid when you do that.”
You flipped him off, pushing your finger into his face harshly and jerking back when he tried to nip at the skin, calling him another colourful nickname in which he elbowed you painfully in the side.
Fucking hell he was strong for a fourteen-year-old.
"Just around this corner here." Maggie's voice brought you back in, focusing on her head between the many others.
The feeling still hadn’t gone away, not with you and certainly not with the others- you all knew you were walking right into a trap. The signs were evident to them all, a reason as to why Wind had been sent to the back with you three.
“The old man says as soon as anything sketchy happens he wants us to split!”
“Isn’t that dangerous? What if you guys get hurt?”
“Have some faith, (Name), we’re stronger than you make us out to be!”
You knew that- of course you did! Yet the threat still lay bare to the world. Skulltula were probably surrounding you at that very moment and it was clear that you could all be ambushed at any time, the further you walked into the castle, the deeper and darker it got only certainty grew in your brain that the upcoming fight would be inevitable if you were caught in a small corner.
That had to have crossed the old man’s mind, right? Under the blonde head of hair was a smart man, a calculating one so Time must have had a counteractive plan just up his armoured sleeve. He’d get everyone out of here, maybe with a few bumps and bruises, but you’d all come out of this ordeal alive and well with only a little major life-changing trauma- nothing you hadn’t gone through already.
The thought didn’t help though, not really without some partnering action, the weight on your shoulders only growing with each step you took, each room you passed, each corridor you turned into-
…You recognised this corridor.
Rebuilt and better than ever, with the help of the construction team and two years of passing, the winding path that lead to the Dining Hall was almost unrecognisable, the one you had trekked so many times when scouring the castle as you played. You wanted secrets, you wanted weapons and you wanted Korok seeds, if it meant having to lap the entire behemoth 100 times to get what you wanted you were ready to do it, you had practically memorised the route in game but it seemed the rebuilding of Hyrule Castle alongside the millions of cobwebs and the fact you were currently walking through its corridors had gotten in the way of your near photogenic memory of the place.
The archway to the armoury lay only a few feet ahead, along with the following path towards the library-
“The library’s this way, there should be some patrolling but we can easily get through them if we work together.”
The library….
There was a resounding click in your mind, footsteps stopping before they could meet the stone of the walkway, the dawn finally breaking in your mind.
It didn’t make sense- it didn’t make sense.
These hallways were always full, they were the main paths, why would she go through here when they were clearly the most dangerous routes?
Why did she take this way when she could have gone through-
“The secret passage.”
Pause.
You were staring, waiting, watching for that reaction.
And here it had finally come.
Time had been looking for an opportunity, and that had to be it, a broken piece within the glass that was her facade, once pristine and perfect, now so obviously cracked as Maggie finally paused just a few feet ahead of you all, the Chain having stopped when noticing your further figure.
You had given them all they needed.
“Pardon?”
It was cryptic in a way, horror and thriller running down your spine as your body shook with the adrenaline now running its course through your body as you readied yourself for what was bound to come.
“The secret passage, behind the bookcase.” There wasn’t a way they didn’t know about it, Wild had left it open for fuck’s sake, they had been rebuilding, it had to be common knowledge that Hyrule Castle had a secret passage. “In the library, why didn’t you just go through there?”
“I didn’t know there was one.”
Wild looked at you.
You looked at him.
He shook his head.
Liar- as expected.
“I really fucking doubt that.” The Chain had backed up to you quickly, quietly, aware that one false move would have broken the hypnotic spell your words had cast over them all. You licked your dry lips in an effort to stop the dryness from taking over your mouth. “How could you, as part of the restoration, not know about the secret passage in the library?”
“I’m not part of the team.”
Your voice was shaking. “S-So you just stayed ignorant about the place you were inhabiting for the past year or two? Not a single soul bothered to tell you about the cool secret passage in the library?”
“No.”
You grasped Wild’s hand frantically, terrified tears in your eyes.
“You’re a really bad fucking liar, Maggie.”
You could hear the grin in her voice. “I know.”
Weapons were pulled from sheaths, battle faces pulled sharp as you were quickly yanked once again behind them all, their stances deadly as they waited for something, anything that Maggie- whoever this was was about to bring down on you all.
“Are you with the Shadow?” Time called, a sneer on his face. “Or did you just crawl out from one of its portals like the rest of them?”
She laughed, still refusing to turn around as she did, her voice bouncing off the stones and echoing throughout the area- almost masking the rumbling footsteps that were quickly making their way to your direction, a quick glance back the way you had came showing a Skulltula quickly making its way towards you all- no, many were heading over and a quick glance in the opposite direction showed the same.
Fuck you were being cornered.
"Link."
One look and the circle drew tighter.
You were in real danger this time, weren’t you?
“I was just passing through,” Maggie’s voice was quick to change, sinister and cold, curling into this scratchy forced sound as if talking itself was a struggle. "Though I will say that Shadow of yours had an offer too tempting, so I thought why not?"
"And what offer did he give you?"
There was a snap, crack and following pop as Maggie finally turned, your stomach dropping at the body horror of her face expanding to form a snout, skin tearing away to reveal the blue fur beneath and murky gold tint taking over her face.
"The death of the Hero of Courage, of course."
Poof!
The cloud of magic saved you from the horrific scene of the monster’s full transfiguration, dark purple blocking your vision before the sound of flapping wings caught your attention, eyes widening in surprise as you watched the view return to you and replaced what was once Maggie, was a blue bat-like creature also similar to a keese.
"Ache?" You muttered in confusion, backing into Hyrule warily and feeling the man tense beneath you.
Not a common monster, not at all, the eyes of Ganon that hailed all the way from the traveller's timeline- they weren't impossibly hard to beat, well, depending on the Ache of course, a single hit usually was enough to have them out. But that's not what they were for, they weren't exactly fighting monsters, Ache's were pretty much spies for the other foul, grotesque beings, the ones watching for your hero closely so they could snatch him up and use him as a sacrifice for their master: Ganon.
The Ache was here for Hyrule, you knew that and so did Hyrule, so without another thought, you sidestepped to keep him out of its view.
It's the least you could have done.
Even if it was useless in this moment of time.
"I'm not really one for fighting." The creature cackled, hovering a little further away. "So I'll just let them deal with you- no need to worry though, I'll be back soon."
It swooped away into the armoury, just as another group of Skulltula came rounding the arch, their hisses and squeals like nails against a chalkboard.
Shields were up at the ready, swords poised and you, little old you, were in the middle with your dagger at the ready as if you knew the first thing about fighting.
"There's more than anticipated."
"Can we take this many black-blooded?"
"Who's to say they are black-blooded?"
"You think the Shadow wouldn't do that?"
"Enough- stand at the ready, do not break this circle."
The feeling had come back, but then again it hadn't gone away either, crawling up your back, poison seeping into your skin as you glanced around frantically for the feeling.
Something was watching you.
Not the heroes.
You.
Just, you.
And you knew that, because it was the exact same pair of eyes that had stared at you from atop that cliff the other day, menacing, cold and cruel, every dark intention you could think of rolling through your mind space. It wasn't the Chuchu back then, their googly eyes were never that evil, they could elicit a body-numbing reaction, but they could have never brought this kind of primal fear that laid deep into your stomach- not like that night after work had.
Dink was looking straight at you.
But from where? You couldn't see him through the bodies of monsters that the boys were fending off, nor in the Dining Hall, in the shadows of the dark corridor, hell, even the damn ceiling didn't have those red piercing eyes of his.
So where-
Fingers grasped your ankle firmly, nails practically piercing through the fabric and digging into the skin as a deep, breathy chuckle caught your ear through all the noise.
"Got you~"
You didn't have time to scream as you were dragged straight through the portal beneath your feet, catching a glimpse of the others turning in surprise, the feeling of a hand trying to grab yours, a possible scream- before your whole body had disappeared into the absolute black.
It took mere seconds to re-emerge from the inky abyss, spluttering and coughing for stolen breath where your body met the floor violently, cheek meeting the scratchy carpet beneath that tore at your poor, victim skin as you were dragged across the floor, a weird sound echoing through the room before you could take a small glance to see the portal vanish into nothing, leaving a stone wall in its place.
You looked at the area solemnly, wishing it would just open back up to you so you could jump back towards the boys, gut-churning with a violently sick feeling at the thought of looking back.
To make the situation real.
"Awh, are you scared, little guide?"
Yes.
Yes, you were.
My Dearest, ep 6
This show keeps on going at full steam.
It's interesting, because Jang Hyun saying he hates Joseon is not entirely a lie. I think he has a general disdain for how the society functions and he certainly has no love for the king.
The show really doesn't shy away the the brutality of this invasion. Jang Hyun and the singer are in a dangerous situation with the General testing them in various ways.
It also drives home how women are treated in war and the fear they all have
It's somewhat difficult to watch the court scenes with the king or even the fights because this is a war that ends in utter defeat, from the little knowledge I have of this time period. They are unprepared, out gunned (literally as they are fighting with swords and arrows vs guns and cannons), under manned and the king has been surrounded and cut off from provisions
The Khan also has a similar disdain for the king that Jang Hyun has. He notes how illogical it is for the king's court to be so blindly loyal when he's not fighting the war. Yes, he is ill and weak but he's also not doing anything.
A smallpox outbreak?!? What next?
The Crown Prince may be obnoxious about he people he deems unworthy (ie: the monks) but he is right in what he is telling his father. He knows that this will end badly if the king does not leave the fortress. They really have little options if they want to survive. The Khan is there. They might actually invade Ganghwa island. But the king would rather die (and all his people die) than be "humiliated".
It's not an easy situation but if this is historically accurate, the refusal further doomed them and the country.
Now they are invading Ganghwa island, where Gil Chae was supposed to be safe. Gil Chae springs into action and warns everyone that the invaders are coming. She tells the one man who doesn't believe her that he can just die instead of listening to this girl
The choice for the women: get captured and raped, never to be accepted by your family/society again, be killed or
Tumblr media
The invasion is brutal all around.
Gil Che is smart enough to know who they are chasing and how she can use that to get on the boat. She's brave enough to get him and run like crazy. And she knew exactly how to bargain to get on the boat.
How BRUTAL the scene was where Gil Chae stops the mother from grabbing to Jong Jong. The mother who only asked that her child be saved. Then they watched from the safety of the boat while those left behind were slaughtered.
In a short time, Gil Chae has gone though so many trumas and while I don't think she knows it yet, she's and extraordinarily strong person
Jang Hyun after finding out they invaded Ganghwa Island, the place he told Gil Chae to go for safety, and then almost right after seeing the knife that he gave her on that solider is just pure anger, guilt, angst and grief.
Gil Chae knows that the soldier is sending them to their death. He's sending them alone, with a vague idea of where to go. Hope the little prince doesn't starve to death.
Gil Chae and Jang Hyun are on the same island but now he has measles smallpox. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?
But the look he gives her when he sees her is full of longing and love. He takes a step towards her but knows he can't. He saves her from the leader. Then fights everyone else while coughing up blood from measles smallpox.
Gil Chae realizes that it was him that she saw and runs back
I swear, this show does not know how to let us have a breather.
Febuwhump Day 23: Presumed dead
CW: Injury, apparent main character death
AO3
---
"You've got no right to talk to Sky that way."
Legend looked up at Twilight's accusing words and scowled at him. "What are you, his mom? If he's got something to say to me, he can say it himself."
"He's not going to because he's too nice, and I get why he doesn't want to fight back, but I'm still telling you you can't talk to him that way." Twilight meant it; he remembered how Midna had been at first and how that prickly exterior had hidden a genuinely good person, but that had been different. Her barbs had been aimed at him. Sky was too easy to bully and Legend's behavior was a thorn in a group that was still finding a way to work together and Twilight didn't know how anyone else tolerated it.
Legend rose slowly to his feet. He was a lot shorter than Twilight, but still stood as tall as he could to try to get nose-to-nose with him. "I'll talk to anyone I want however I want, Rancher. I'm not one of the snot-nosed kids from your backwater village who think you're hot stuff because you're the only person in town who can use a sword properly."
Twilight bared his teeth. "And don't talk about my home or my family that way either!"
"Hey!" Warriors' voice pierced Twilight's awareness and the captain thrust an arm between them. "Break it up, you two."
"Stay out of this, pretty boy," said Legend. "I can fight my own battles. Let's see if the rancher can."
"Legend -" Warriors' voice held a warning note, but Twilight talked over him.
"I can fight my own battles," he snapped. "And I can fight for people other than myself too: something you apparently don't have much experience with!"
"Twilight, that is out of line!" shouted Warriors, now turning to him.
"You don't know anything about my battles," snarled Legend.
"I'm fine not knowing what it's like to attack people who won't hit you back!"
Warriors caught Legend even as he lunged forward with a raised fist. Twilight was grabbed under the arms and dragged back against an armored chest.
"Walk away," snapped Time in his ear, shoving him towards the other side of the camp. He looked downright disgusted and at that look Twilight felt like a bucket of cold water had been dumped over him. He'd just wanted to tell Legend to lay off Sky a bit. He hadn't meant for it to escalate. What had he been supposed to do, just take it when Legend talked about Ordon and its people the way he had?
But there was no use getting back into it now and just looking at Legend - now on the far side of the camp with his back to everyone - made his blood boil. He walked away.
***
Twilight and Legend didn't speak to each other for the rest of the day or the next morning, despite the efforts of other members of the Chain. Legend made no attempt to approach Twilight and Twilight didn't want to be the first to break the impasse either. He wanted an apology. He wasn't the one who had started throwing insults.
Now he bitterly regretted that decision.
As he sat a little way outside camp, staring out at the surface of a small lake, he didn't notice the black monster blood stiffening the fur of his pelt into spikes. He didn't notice the jarred ache in his right arm and shoulder from catching a moblin's club on his shield. All he could focus on was the images flashing behind his eyes.
Sky falling with an arrow buried deep in his thigh.
The moblin raising a claymore over him.
Legend throwing himself in the huge blade's path.
Legend lying pinned to the ground, the claymore through his stomach.
Sky's screamed denials of what was happening. Time's grim expression. Wind crying. Blood on Warriors' and Four's hands as they eased the claymore free. Hyrule's thousand-yard stare as he laid his hands on his best friend's body.
Twilight had gone to patrol and make sure there were no more monsters lying in wait. He couldn't face this. Couldn't face the fact that Legend was… Legend had…
Even the thought couldn't quite form in his mind as he stared out at the rippling moonlight.
They'd made camp. He'd kept patrolling. Talking to nobody, ignoring their stares.
He'd been wrong. And he'd never be able to say so.
"Twilight."
The sound of his nickname startled him so much he almost sprang up, but he managed to restrain himself to just looking round as Time came to sit next to him.
"I've been looking for you for a while," he said softly.
Twilight locked his eyes on the water, unwilling to see the disappointment and anger he knew would be there on the old man's face.
"I can't…" he started. "I just…" The words caught in his throat. "I should have… I should have said I was sorry." The catch turned into a sob and he rubbed his eyes. "He's… he's dead and… the last thing I ever said to him… was that he doesn't know about fighting for other people and he only attacks those who won't hit him back."
Time didn't reply.
Twilight kept talking, bleeding words into the silence as surely as the tears dripped down his cheeks. "He sacrificed himself for Sky and… the last thing I said to him was that he… And now I'll never be able to tell him I'm sorry. That I didn't mean it, I just… I was angry and I lashed out and… and then I waited for him to apologize first and he started it but that doesn't matter, I'm supposed to be the adult and now the last thing I said to him…" Unable to bear it any more, he buried his face in his hands.
After a moment, Time laid a hand shockingly gently on his shoulder. "Twilight," he said softly, "I'm glad you realize this now and I hope it lasts past hearing what I came to tell you."
Twilight looked up, confused.
Time didn't look angry; he smiled a little and continued, "Legend's alive. You didn't stay after the battle long enough to see Hyrule heal him. I came looking for you because he wants to talk to you."
Twilight stared at him for a moment, the world seeming to slow just as it had in those horrible moments as the moblin cut Legend down. "He's… he's alive?" he asked.
Time nodded. "Yes, he's alive."
Then Twilight was on his feet, sprinting back to camp. He barrelled past the others, over to where Hyrule sat by Legend. By Legend, he realized, not his body, caring for a wounded man rather than keeping vigil by a corpse.
"Le-Legend…" he gasped, dropping to his knees and grabbing the smaller hylian's hand. "I'm sorry, I should never have said those things."
Legend snorted. "Damn right. But I was asking for it. I'm sorry too."
Twilight sighed in relief, pressing Legend's hand to his forehead, and smiled as Legend wriggled it free, grumbling under his breath. It showed he was alive. It showed things were back to normal.
Keigo Takami x Reader: Rapunzel AU
-------------------
His eyes scanned the room, keeping a lookout for the guards.
They had one shot at this and if they failed they would either be imprisoned for life or be put to death. There was too much at stake for failure.
Touya and Shigaraki were setting up the rope for his drop. The guards were stationed in a large circle around their prize. They would be expecting thieves to come through the doors or one of the many secret pathways, not an ariel attack.
The crown sat in the center of the room on a pedestal. Red cushion fluffed and kept free of dust all these years. You'd honestly think they'd give up. It's been almost 18 years for god's sake, chances of the lost princess returning are slim to none.
It doesn't matter, though, not when he's so close to a life of riches and ease. He just has to make sure he finds the perfect opportunity to drop his colleagues and take off with the headpiece.
Touya sends him a curt nod. It's time. Keigo fastens the rope to his harness and starts to shimmy down through the large, open ceiling.
'How daft can these people be? Making it this easy to steal their precious tiara...' He can't help but shake his head at how unassuming the people ruling his kingdom are.
Quick and silent as a mouse, Keigo is ground level and pocketing the crown. Just as he starts to climb back up, one of the guards sneezes and he can't help but let out a snide little "Bless you" before signaling the other two to pull him up.
"Thanks," the guard sneaks a look back to acknowledge him before realizing what happened.
They're packed up and running across the castle roofs before the alarm can properly start blaring through the streets. Making their way to the farthest wall they could, they slide down the rafters and make their way into the forest.
He can hear the yelling of the Kingsmen and the thundering steps of their steeds as they chase after them, desperate to get the tiara back.
Passing by a tree, he has to stop and do a double take. There's wanted posters with a caricature of their faces, though his in particular is quite insulting.
"Excuse me!? I do NOT look like that!" he squawks. He holds the Wanted poster next to his head as he desperately looks to his companions, hoping they disagree with it.
Touya and Shigaraki share a look before grabbing him by either arm and dragging him along.
"Fine! I'm coming!" He shoves the paper in his bag as he runs.
As they continue to run, dodging arrows and sword swipes, they reach a dead end,
"C'mon guys, boost me up and I'll pull you up after me." Keigo pants.
"Sure," Touya says. "Hand over the bag first."
I- What!? You guys don't trust me?" The two stare at him unimpressed. "Wow... I'm hurt, truly."
He slips the bag over his head and passes it to Shigaraki.
Touya and him link hands to boost Keigo up and over the edge. Once up, Keigo steadies himself and turns to reach down a hand.
Just before Touya can grab it, he pulls it back.
"What the hell, Takami? Help us up!"
"Nah," he grins. He turns to leave only to be stopped by Shigaraki yelling.
"You're really gonna leave the crown?"
"Oh, You see..." He holds up the leather satchel, "I'm not leaving it; good luck boys!"
With that, Keigo disappears into the thicket just as the others are cornered by the soldiers.
He rushes through the trees and bushes a bit longer before he's intercepted by an unmanned horse. He can faintly hear the faint yelling of the name "Bakugou" which he can only assume is the horse's name.
It advances on him like a rabid dog, chasing him through the forest until he finally manages to give it the slip by hiding behind the vines of a cave.
When he hears the horse pass, he lets out a sigh. He turns to venture deeper into the cave, only to find that it's not a true cave. The back lets out to a large clearing with a waterfall and a tower in the center.
Thankfully, he saved a couple of the arrows he avoided. Using them as climbing hooks, he scales the tower.
Finally falling through the, luckily, open window, Keigo slumps against the wall. He pulls the satchel back out and opens it to peak at his prize.
"Alone at last-"
Before he can revile in his success at escaping the swordsmen and outfoxing his fellow thieves, there's a sharp -thwack- and a stinging pain that rings through his skull as his vision goes black.
Daenerys & Jon Parallels: showing strength when they are at their limits for the sake of their people.
"We follow the comet," Dany told her khalasar. Once it was said, no word was raised against it. They had been Drogo's people, but they were hers now. The Unburned, they called her, and Mother of Dragons. Her word was their law.
They rode by night, and by day took refuge from the sun beneath their tents. Soon enough Dany learned the truth of Doreah's words. This was no kindly country. They left a trail of dead and dying horses behind them as they went, for Pono, Jhaqo and others had seized the best of Drogo's herds, leaving to Dany the old and the scrawny, the sickly and the lame, the broken animals and the ill - tempered. It was the same with people. I must show no fear, no weakness, no doubt. No matter how frightened my heart, when they look upon my face they must see only Drogo's queen. She felt older than her fourteen years. If ever she had truly been a girl, that time was done.
ACOK - DAENERYS I
The Wall is mine, Jon reminded himself whenever he felt his strength flagging. He had taken up a longbow himself, and his fingers felt crabbed and stiff, half frozen. His fever was back as well, and his leg would tremble uncontrollably, sending a white - hot knife of pain right through him. One more arrow and I'll rest, he told himself, half a hundred times. Just one more.[...]
"The Wall will stop them!" Jon heard himself saying. He turned and said it again, louder. "The Wall will stop them. The Wall defends itself."Hollow words, but he needed to say them, almost as much as his brothers needed to hear them. "Mance wants to unman us with his numbers. Does he think we're stupid?" He was shouting now, his leg forgotten, and every man was listening. "The chariots, the horsemen, all those fools on foot...what are they going to do with us up here? Any of you ever seen a mammoth climb a wall?" He laughed, and Pyp and Owen and half a dozen more laughed with him."They 're nothing. They're less use than our straw brothers, they can't reach us, they can't hurt us, and they don't frighten us, do they?"
"NO!" Grenn shouted
"They're down there and we're up here," Jon said " and so long as we hold the gate they cannot pass!" They were all shouting then, roaring his own words back at him, waving swords and longbows in the air as their cheeks flashed red.
THE KNIGHT AND THE CREATURE OF THE NIGHT
part one (1,028 words)
My first fic lol. I hope you guys like it 🌬🤍
Also, sorry if there are any writing errors, I use a translator so some words may be wrong.
Tumblr media
It hurts. Everything hurts.
Everything happened so fast... You and your battalion were resting in a forest. A well-deserved rest after days of a bloody and brutal war. You and a few more soldiers were in your tent, already organizing and strategizing the next steps for the days to come. But, your train of thought was soon cut off by an agonizing scream. A scream of agony from one of your soldiers.
You and the other soldiers who were with you quickly leave your tent, and are faced with a bloodbath. An ambush. You see enemy soldiers killing each of your men, who unsuccessfully try to fight back. You see the enemies' weapons piercing and tearing your battle companions, who wither from the inside out after the blows. Enchanted weapons. It all happened so fast... You draw your sword and attack your enemies, but an arrow hits your arm and pierces the hard iron of your armor. A bewitched arrow. You feel the poison from the arrow entering you, and mixing with your blood. Another arrow is shot your way, but one of your allies jumps in front of you, taking the shot for you. Before succumbing and turning to dust, he mutters, weakly. "run..."
And that's what you did, reluctantly, with the little strength you had left, you ran deeper into the forest. You can feel the poison seeping more and more into your blood with each passing moment.
You walks, weak, your vision already going dark. But something in you won't let you die so quickly. Your determination. Your determination to recover, and take revenge on everyone who killed your battle companions. your friends. You continue to walk aimlessly through the forests, and your weak eyes spot a cave. You can hear the sadistic laughter of your enemies from afar. They're getting close. Left with no choice, you walk to the cave, feeling your life slowly slipping away, the poison eating you from the inside out , and gods, how it hurts.
As you walk deeper into the cave, you feel your legs losing strength, but you force yourself to keep walking. You can see the slimy walls of the cave, filled with ancient engravings: several people kneeling, and apparently worshiping what appears to be a... black blur…? you don't quite understand what it is.
You kept walking and walking... until you reached what seemed to be the end of the cave. You can see what looks like a stone altar, and around it, old human skulls.
You may be going crazy, but... you can hear someone... calling you. Someone who isn't there... But suddenly, you howl in pain. The poison. You stagger forward in pain, and fall to your knees in front of the altar. When you look up, you see something that gives you goosebumps.
There's a man behind the altar.
Quickly analyzing his appearance, you can see two red eyes that pierce your soul, and seem to look beyond you. It has huge, pointy fangs, and looking down, you can see claws, also huge. It also has large, powerless horns on its head.
He looks down at you with a sneer, finding your situation amusing. Without bothering to be gentle, he takes his hand to your hair, lifting your head, and analyzing your features better.
"Hm... let's see..." The creature speaks, his voice thick and frightening. "It would be a shame to let something cute like you die in such a deplorable way..." He brings his other hand to your face, squeezing your cheek, and brings his face closer to yours, speaking once more. "I can help you... the revenge you want so much... I can help you with it."
You look up at him, your mind filled with questions. ‘Who is he? What is he?’ You are losing control of your body. You can hear enemies getting closer and closer. your time is running out... You open your mouth to respond to his proposal, but you can't speak, and instead, you cough blood in his face. But it seems that didn't bother him. "Shh.. one look is worth a thousand words, mortal…” He speaks, his smirk growing on his face, becoming more and more sinister.
Your time is up.
Your eyes close, and the pain slowly begins to fade, and death's embrace begins to comfort you. But, suddenly you are pulled from that limbo between life and death, by a kiss. You feel warm and soft lips against yours, and you feel something taking over you, and invading your body.
. . .
The enemies soldiers arrive. They walked around laughing, and talking loudly, making fun of your situation. They observe your body at the end of the cave, on your knees in front of the altar. What appears to be their leader, walks confidently in front, wielding a sword in his hand, towards you. But all the men jump in fright when they see your body contort, and in an agonizing way get up. Your armor slowly begins to take on a reddish hue, and a huge, imposing red sword begins to slowly appear in your hand, and you turn to them. Your empty, ruby-red eyes stare at all the men there.
Terrified, the leader advances towards you, with the sword aimed at your neck. But in the blink of an eye, he is torn apart, chopped into bloody pieces of flesh in a matter of moments.
A scream of terror echoes through the cave.
And so, you begin your killing spree; brutally killing your enemies one by one. At every moment, a sadistic laugh echoes in your mind. A laugh from a being that now you understand what it is.
His original name is unpronounceable, but... His old worshipers called him Miguel.
Miguel, The creature of the night, worshiped for millennia by the angry, vengeful and brutish.
Miguel, The creature of the night, who gives his blessings to those who, in his eyes, are worthy.
Miguel, The creature of the night... who apparently really liked you.
Miguel, The creature of the night... who laughs sterically at the calls for help from your enemies.
And so, you emerge from the cave a new man, and with a new purpose.
Miguel.
