Doraemon Vol. 12 from The Complete Works of Fujiko F. Fujio
Tumblr media
The stories here were published in 1979–1985. Once again I don't have many general comments to make, so I'll proceed with my selection of iconic stories from this volume (as determined by my personal experience and biases):
"おそるべき正義ロープ" ("The Formidable Justice Rope", 1980): To deal with Nobita's bullies, Doraemon releases the Justice Rope, which automatically wanders around town and punishes wrongdoers by tying them up. However, trouble arises when it turns out that the rope punishes all types of wrongdoing…
"ションボリ、ドラえもん" ("Dejected Doraemon", 1981): Seeing how much Doraemon has been struggling to look after Nobita, Nobita's great-great grandson Sewashi considers sending Dorami to take his place.
"時門で長~~い一日" ("A Looong Day with the Time Gate", 1981): To help Nobita finish his homework and still have enough time to visit Shizuka afterward, Doraemon slows down time with the Time Gate. As usual, Nobita isn't satisfied with just that and borrows the gadget for his own benefit, which causes all kinds of trouble. The most ridiculous of all is that an action TV show that Nobita is watching ends up having to continue airing the plot of subsequent episodes to fill up the extra time, to the point where the lead actor eventually gets hospitalized from overwork, which is absolutely not how a TV series like that would work, but is absolutely hilarious.
"天つき地蔵" ("Sky-tipping Jizō", 1982): To give Nobita a place to hide his failed exam papers, Doraemon brings out a seemingly bottomless waste disposal, but then falls in himself without his pocket. As he tries to find a way back, his exploits parallel the events in a folktale that Nobita happens to be reading.
"ホンワカキャップ" ("Happy Cap", 1983): Nobita envies adults for being able to drink away their sorrows, so Doraemon takes out a bottlecap that can make any beverage intoxicating.
"ジャイアン殺人事件" ("The Gian Murder Case", 1985): To everyone's surprise, the director of a music school seeks out Gian to record his infamously horrendous singing. Suneo suspects that the director intends to use it as an instrument of murder. (It's actually meant to represent the "before" in a "before and after" style commercial for the school.)

Note
is there anything you don't like in Doraemon or think can be improved?
I think that there are some characters that really deserve more screen time. I mean, Dekisugi and Jaiko, we've known of their existence since 1980 (at most), but we barely know anything about them. I really want more content on these two, as well as Dorami and Sewashi.
I also think the time travel should be more clearly explained. In the main story, when Doraemon comes back to the 20th century, he changes the entire timeline. But, in the Peko and the Five Explorers movie, when the kids were travelling back in time, the timeline didn't change at all. They clearly remembered themselves going back in time, and they saw their future selves. It confused me, to be honest.

Speaking
Jarred (Young/Adolescent) from Deltora Quest
The character appears at 5:21
youtube
Jarred is the blond child and later adolescent in a flashback. He sounds different as a kid and teen (same voice actress though). Don't confuse him for the boy in the "present day" who looks similar.
Speaking times are 5:21, 5:34, 6:20, 6:50, 7:37, 8:55, 9:35-10:55, 11:24, 11:43-12:04, 12:23-13:14, 13:34-13:59, 14:23, 14:43, 15:25, 15:57, 16:57, 17:16, 17:39, 18:30

Hasmodai/Teo from Fantastic Children
Link to YouTube Video with Time Stamps 2:27 - 2:44
youtube
If you don't click the link, go to 2:27 and get out of it after it changes scenes. The part with his voice is short, but...possible spoilers for Fantastic Children if you plan on watching it soon...maybe? I mean, it is the ending.
Original Post
---
Momotaro from Gokudo the Adventurer
youtube
Momotaro has the peach headband.
He speaks throughout most of the video, but some times are 0:11, 0:31, 0:55, and 1:44.
You can hear WW Link in the voice at a lot of parts, but the laugh at 1:08 sounds kind of like Skull Kid.
Original Post
---
Naoto Yamada from A Penguin's Troubles
Go to 1:04 or 1:24
youtube
He's the one with black hair.
Original Post
---
Yūhi Shinatsuhiko from Yozakura Quartet
He appears between 1:47 - 2:45
youtube
Yūhi is the one with a hat.
I could only find French subtitles, so I don't know exactly what they're saying.
Original Post
---
Asagi Cadwell from Mobile Suit Gundam SEED
youtube
Thought I'd include one girl character.
Some times she speaks are 0:09, 0:37, 0:46, 0:57, and 3:07.

Speaking of Shizuka referring to her friends and those she respects with the honorific"-san", I always wondered why Doraemon refers to Nobita and Sewashi with the "-kun" honorific. Is it because he's a caretaker, and thus they sorta defer to him? Or is it out of endearment to those he's close to? I've seen him also refer to Suneo with the -kun honorific before in that one episode where Suneo manages to hypnotize Doraemon into being his best friend with that heart button and remote control button. Though, I think he also refers to some other characters as -kun like the usual companions to Nobita in the movies or even that one-off character Tame.
Yeahhh. That's a darn good point.
But honestly, I legitimately don't even have an answer for that aside from something I already told over here.

Y'know somethin else that fuels my hc that Nobita has self-loathing and feelings of inadequacy? From that one scene where Doraemon was trying to get Nobita to catch a ball in Secret Gadget Museum, Nobita limpens in Doraemon's hold and screams "I can't do anything so I don't want to do anything!" Also doesn't help Sewashi and Doraemon called him useless in that segment as well...
It also seems to show Nobita never had anyone to motivate him to be better after his grandmother passed and before Doraemon came along. So that mindset permeated for around five or so years as his academics and athletics began taking a plunge. Yikes.
Cue this: Doraemon: Oh geez, you never want to study, you never want to play sports! Oh, you never want to want to try harder! And then, you never want to do anythjng! That's why you're useless!
Like, hmmm... I wonder why he never does. No one was there for him.
Like, look how much Doraemon putting that into perspective seemed to really affect him! He almost is on the verge of crying and his face is reddening!
Tumblr media
Furthermore: He has such little faith in himself that he immediately defaults to beating himself up and saying he's useless. As seen here:

And then wants to hole himself up in his room at home to wallow because no one was ever there to cheer him up and tell him otherwise.
When Doraemon berates his behavior, he's struggling and pawing at him to just let him go. But when he calls him useless...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
He immediately snaps and screams he's useless, and is very hostile. It obviously eats him up inside. He gets much more desparate as if a massive wound has been reopened and it stings him. He tries to just flee, obviously not really wanting to hurt Doraemon, but still fights him because his inner demons are on full display from those comments Doraemon made, and he can't handle it.

And this has been a rhapsody of a children's show character that probably isn't that on the nose as I make it out to be!
Thanks for coming to my TED talk.
