The Era Tour: 04. Act II: Fearless

When she disappeared into the stage, Penelope took a second to look around at the stadium and all the fans standing around with phones, digital cameras, even Polaroids!

There was a little girl in the seat in front, standing on her chair so she could see over the person in front of her. Penelope could see she had a few friendship bracelets tied on her wrist. This is when she remembered that she has a ribbon bracelet in her bag. And started to dig it out.

Once she found it, she slowly and steadily hung the bracelet in front of her face.

The little girl let out a gasp of delight, turning around in her spot to look up at Penelope. "Are you giving it to me?" Her sweet little voice and huge smile reminded Penelope of her first concert with Eloise and Violet in her early teens when they saw Take That on their Progress Tour.

"Yeah, I'll tie it on for you, if you want?"

She nodded, holding out her arm which was decently covered with friendship bracelets and glitter. Tying it on, she gave it an experimental tug. "Does that feel ok? It's not loose? I don't want it to fall off."

The little girl proceeded to shake her arm with all her might. Yet, the bracelet didn't move.

"What do you say, Penelope?" The little girl (now identified as Penelope)'s mother asked.

Little Penelope looked up at her with big eyes. "Thank you!" As she reached over for her mother's bag, where a plastic bag of bracelets could be seen.

"You're a Penelope?" Big Penelope asked, to which the little girl nodded. "So am I."

Little Penelope gasped again, reached up and wrapped her arms around big Penelope's neck. "Hi, Penelope!"

"Hi, Penelope," Pen replied, gently setting her back down on her seat, as the little girl opened up the plastic bag - offering one to Pen. Pen reached her fingers into the plastic bag and pulled out a yellow bracelet with 'Love Story' on it. "Look, I got a Fearless one!"

As soon as Pen said 'Fearless', that's when they realised that the set had hanged and yellow-gold sparkles were flying down the screen. The next set was Fearless.

There's somethin' bout the way, the street looks when it's just rained, there's a glow off the pavement. You walk me to the car, and you know I wanna ask you to dance right there, in the middle of the parking lot. Yeah!

Pen stood back up as little Penelope admired her new 1989 friendship bracelet, showing it up to her mother.

Penelope looked over and shared a look with a fellow Swiftie on the other side of Gregory.

She had been so delicate with the little girl, Colin had barely been able to take his eyes off the conversation - especially his Pen.

Colin could very easily imagine little redheaded children who would call Pen their mother and him their... father...

Where did that come from?

Eloise looked over at her best friend, who was having the time of her life - and then up at her brothers and sister-in-law, and Colin had a peculiar look on his face of shock and awe, as he looked down at Penelope.

'Cause I don't know how it gets better than this, you take my hand and drag me head first, fearless. And I don't know why. But with you, I'd dance in a storm, in my best dress. Fearless!

You're on the phone with your girlfriend, she's upset. She's going off about something that you said. 'Cause she doesn't get your humour like I do.

The second song of the Fearless set, was You Belong With Me. One that Gregory knew as he started singing it under his breath.

"I can hear you, Gregory," Penelope says in a sing-song voice. "You have to sing it louder."

And with that, there was no stopping the youngest Bridgerton son.

"But she wears short skirts, I wear T-shirts! She's Cheer Captain, and I'm on the bleachers! Dreaming about the day when you wake up and find, that what you're looking for has been here the whole time!" The pair sang.

Colin looked down at Penelope as she and his brother sang the chorus. "If you could see that I'm the one who understands you. Been here all along. So, why can't you see? You belong with me! You belong with me!"

The third song was Love Story. The most popular and recognisable of hers.

Everyone knew it (Swiftie or not), the lyrics had been ingrained into their brains since 2009!

"Romeo, take me somewhere we can be alone! I'll be waiting, all there's left to do is run. You'll be the prince and I'll be the princess. It's a love story, baby, just say, "Yes"," the crowd shouted, jumping in the stands - almost making the arena shake.

A few rows down, when it got to the bridge, a young man (most likely in his mid-twenties) got down on one knee and proposed to his girlfriend.

"Oh, my God!" Penelope exclaimed when she took her eyes away from the stage for a second.

Their little section erupted into applause as the woman said yes, and a ring was slipped onto her finger.

Colin looked between the newly engaged couple and then down at Penelope. That's what he wanted.

He wanted to spend the rest of his life with Penelope Featherington.

So this took quite a bit of time and help from my sister who knows calculus and literature better than I do, but I compiled a list of VERY interesting potential references to the work of various historical figures that are always listed on those web articles of people thought to have been asexual.

Even if you're not compelled by Acelor, this is an interesting read just in terms of Taylor actually meaning it when she said folklore is based on stories and imagination. I don't see many people actually take that to heart and look for references etc.

Years Go By (2019! Richie Tozier x Bowers! Reader)

The night they all got the call from Mike they had all felt that familiar dread loom over them. The thought of what had happened 27 years ago made some of them sick. They didn't want to relive it, the trauma, it was too much.

Richie Tozier however, found himself sitting just outside the hotel he would be staying at until the childhood fear was gone for good. He ran a hand through his dark curls, he would need a shower as soon as he settled in. He exited the car and grabbed his suitcase, knowing he had some time before he met up with the others at the chinese resturaunt.

Richie entered the small hotel, hearing the light 'ding' of the bell. The woman at the desk looked up from her book and gave a wide smile.

"Alright, sir. And your name?"

"Richie Tozier."

The woman looked up for a moment before weiting down his name and closing the book. Richie seemed a bit off ever since he received the call, not that anyone could blame him if they had seen what he had been through. Sure, he was a successful comedian but even a goofy smile wouldn't cover up the uneasy fear in his eyes.

"Alright, I'll be putting you in Room 237. I can show you to your room, if you'd like?" The woman turned and grabbed the key from the wall, turning back to meet Richie's eyes. The man nodded, seemingly not wanting to talk much. He just wanted to be in the room alone for a bit.

"Yes, I think that'd be nice.." He said, grabbing his suitcase. The woman nodded and walked from behind the desk. She gestured him to follow her as she walked to the stairs, walking just a few feet in front of him. As she walked up the stairs, Richie kept his eyes on the floor beneath him rather then looking up to accidently see up her shirt.

"You're a long ways home, Mr. Tozier. What's the occasion?" She asked him, grabbing his attention. Richie gave a light chuckle. He was positive that no one in Derry watched tv much, they were always stuck in the past. It surprised him to know that someone knew where he was from.

"Oh, just a reunion, ya know? Old friends wanting to get together, I couldn't turn them down."

"Oh? I thought you were going on tour soon?" The woman stopped at the top of the stairs and waited from him to catch up with her. Richie shrugged.

"I guess you could say that these friends are more important.. they're the best friends I ever had." Richie looked to meet the women's eyes.

"Even leaving the wife at home?" She asked. Richie gave a nervous chuckle, shaking his head.

"Oh, no.. I'm not married.." He assured, showing that he had no wedding band. The woman smirked.

"Well isn't that a treat?" She continued walking down the hall until she reached a room. She paused when she noticed that the door was open and the room service cart was sitting just outside the door. Richie was at first confused till he heard the woman give an annoyed sigh. "I apologize, do you mind waiting out here for a moment?" She turned to the comedian, a forced smile on her lips. Richie shook his head.

"Not at all.." With that the woman entered the room, leaving the door opened further than before. Richie stood by the door, leaning in and sneaking a peek to what was going on. He saw the woman at the desk walk up to a woman in a pastel uniformed dress, with an apron tied around her waist. Ah yes, house keeping. It seemed to appear that she was either running behind on the rooms or she was in the wrong room.

"(Y/N) Bowers.. I hope you won't be too much longer in here. There's a man outside waiting to use this room.." The woman that greeted Richie, her cheery voice suddenly blunt. Richie's brows furrowed. Did he hear that name right? Bowers. That name made Richie nervous. He knew that name. Until recently, (Y/N) had been slower than usual, lacking the enthusiasm she had once. Not that anyone would've liked her job, she cleaned after people and was ordered around. She was the hotel maid, what fun was that?

"Oh. I'm sorry, Holly. I'll just be a few minutes longer. All I need to do is change the sheets and wipe down the windows to the balcony. I shouldn't take too long if he doesn't mind waiting here.." The maid explained. Holly gave another sigh, rubbing her temples. (Y/N) didn't know why she was so uptight. Sure, she was running the hotel when the boss wasn't around but rarely anyone came to Derry and stayed the night. That wasn't the kind of place it was.

"This really is unacceptable. I'll just take him to a different room." Holly went to turn and walk out but stopped when she noticed Richie standing in the door way.

"I don't mind waiting.. honestly, I don't want to cause trouble and I'd rather settle in now than wait for a different room when she's almost done.." He said, giving Holly a smirk. Holly quickly covered the annoyed look with a smile, it was too forced.

"I have no problem giving you another room, Mr. Tozier. In fact, for this little.. incident, I'd be more than happy to give you the suite. You are a celebrity after all." (Y/N) looked up from what she was doing and met eyes with Richie. Tozier. Richie Tozier. "And you know what they say, 'Stars Never Pay'." Holly chuckled. He didn't understand why she was smothering herself up to him but it was getting uncomfortable quickly. Richie gave a nervous chuckle.

"Thank you but I think I'll just take this one. Plus I'll have a bit of company before I have to leave for dinner." Richie looked towards the maid who seemingly looked shocked he was talking about her. Holly looked back at the maid and pushed down the urge to protest. She simply nodded.

"Of course." She handed him the key. Her cheery facade dropping. "If you have any concerns or needs, feel free to contact the front desk. I'll be more than happy to help you." She gave a short smile before exiting the room, leaving the comedian and the maid alone.

"I promise I won't take too much time here, I'm just running behind scedule today.." (Y/N) said as she started changing the sheets to the bed, rolling the dirty ones up and laying them on the floor. Richie set his suit case on the vanity and leaned up against the wall.

"No, it's fine. I don't mind a bit.." He stated, watching her as she put fresh sheets on and tucked them in. "So.. Bowers.. You wouldn't happen to have been related to Henry Bowers." The comedian read the look on the maid's face. The name made her uneasy too.

"He was my older brother.." She stood up straight and the two kept their eyes on each other. "Were you.. one of the kids he hurt?" She asked, her fingers playing with her apron. Richie slightly shrugged and nodded.

"I mean.. yeah, I am.. he deffinantly tried to kill us a while back.." He rubbed the back of his neck as though he was embarrased. The subject was completely awkward. (Y/N) bit her lip as though looking for something to change the subject. There was nothing that would have fixed the awkward silence. "How has he been? Is he.. still with us?" Richie didn't want to flat out ask if the childhood bully that literally pulled the rope from the well, trapping them down there was dead or alive. Not that he would've cared if the son of a bitch was rotting six feet under but for the sake of his sister.. perhaps it wasn't rude to ask if the man was alive and doing well. (Y/N) nodded, grabbing the dirty sheets.

"Still at the institution.. after he killed those kids.. I think he'll live his remaining days in there.." She stated, walking towards the cart that stood outside. Richie nodded.

"Well that's good." He shook his head. "Not that he's, ya know, locked up forever but that.. well, I mean.. fuck, um.. well, he's alive.. so.. that's good.. for you, I mean. Cause he's.. your brother.." Richie fumbled his words, making the situation almost unbearable to watch. (Y/N) seemed to get what he meant and chuckled. "Gosh I'm making things really awkward for you.. it's just.. funny to see you again.."

"Funny?" The maid set the sheets in the cart and turned to Richie, a confused expression on her face.

"Not funny.. um, nice? I don't know.. it's been 27 years since we last saw each other.."

1989

(Y/N) stood on her front porch as the coroners wheeled her father out on a gurnee, wrapped up in a body bag. Her father didn't make a sound when he died at the hands of his oldest, Henry. He bled to death on his recliner while his ten year old daughter played with her imaginary friend; Bob Grey, upstairs. Butch didn't think too much of it. His daughter was upstairs, his son outside with his friends. He had a rough day and needed a nap. He didn't know he would wake up to a switch blade in his neck while his son stood above him, no words or even eye contact. It's like it wasn't even Henry.

The police soon found Henry. They arrested him when he tried coming back home to his younger sister, saying nonsense and doing all he could to reach for her. The police didn't let him get 5 feet from her before they took him down. Henry was screaming about the murders of the missing children and how he wasn't finished. He promised he would come back for his sister. He promised.

Not too far from the scene were the kids who belonged to the Loser's club. (Y/N) looked over to see them coming from the barrens. They were roughed up and she remembered the stuttering one was carrying a yellow rain coat that one of her classmates use to wear. She remembered his name being George, but everyone always called him Georgie. He had gone missing around 6 months ago. She kinda missed him in class. He was kind, not like the other rowdy boys in her grade. They shared recess often with each other. He was a friend.

(Y/N) made eye contact with the dark haird boy with the thick frames. Ah yes, the trash mouth. She use to hear about him from Henry often when his friends were over. Talking about how to broke his glasses after having them for a week or that he tripped him into the jewish geek during lunch. She never understood her brother's hatred for those kids. They were just kids. What was so damn special about them that he needed to hurt them so much?

"I wonder what's going to happen to her.." Stan said, his hands by his side. Richie shrugged, taking his eyes away from her.

"Foster home.." He was right. She had no other family that wanted to deal with an orphan, especially one that came from a domestic household.

"S-Surely s-s-she has o-other family that at-will tak-k-ke her.." Bill held the rain coat close to his chest as he watched paramedics approach the girl. Eddie shook his head.

"It's so fucked up..none of this should happen to her." He was angry about the situation. No one should have to go to foster care. Richie never had to experience it but he might as well have. Sure his parents were still around, but were they really?

"There's nothing that we can do for her.." Beverly looked down at the ground, she couldn't look. She was lucky to not go to foster care, that she would be living with her aunt soon. It didn't help knowing that Henry would face punishment for his crimes, but so would the young girl that had nothing to do with him. They didn't see her after that day.

2017

"It has been a while.. I barely remember much of that day.." (Y/N) walked over to the doors to the balcony, spray bottle and a rag in her hand. "The day I found my father in his recliner, a hole in his neck and blood seeping into the carpet.. " She prayed the door and began wiping the smudges of the glass." The day that child care came and took me to some random building and there I had to start a new life..going to a different house almost every year. New faces. New lives.. My life was shitty before but Christ.. I had family that loved me at least.." The maid gave a scoff as she finished the doors, turning to Richie with a pained look in her eyes. Richie stood in silence, returning the pained look. He understood it. The lack of any parental love. The absence of them and having to find some way to get by. He had felt her pain before.

(Y/N) realized that she had to ranting about her life to someone that was basically a complete stranger. Her brother bullied him for years, even tried to kill him and she's the one talking about a rough childhood. She lowered her head and started making a B line for the door.

"I'm all done in here, sir. Spare towels are in the cabinet below the sink. Have a good day." She was just about to leave when Richie started chasing after her.

"Now hang on a sec." He stood in front of her cart, his hands taking a hold of it, preventing her from going forward. She seemed shocked that he stopped her, and far more shocked that she was letting him. Richie found himself speechless, he had nothing planned to say after he stopped her. So here, they stood in another awkward silence. "I.. uh.."

"Yes..?"

"Okay so.. I didn't have anything planned after chasing you down but.. uh.. Why are you here..?" He asked, his brows furrowed. The maid seemed confused.

"Um, I work here..?"

"Yeah but why in Derry.. what the fuck made you want to come back here?" Richie shook his head, a bit frustrated with himself. (Y/N) gave him a sly look.

"What made you want to come back to Derry?" She asked, flipping the question. "I figure a famous comedian wouldn't want to come back to a town that barely exsists.."

"I have specifically different reasons.." He slight alifted his chin up as though to avoid really answering. She wouldn't believe it. The maid arched a brow.

"Exactly.." She pulled her cart from Richie, making him stumble. "Maybe I'll answer your question over coffee, um, tomorrow at 10?" She smirked, pushing her cart past Richie. The comedian was taken back at first but caught on quickly. He didn't see the Bowers sister much of a 'date' type of girl. But she clearly saw something in him and frankly, he was attracted to the thought of coffee with her.

"Tomorrow at 10 then.." He backed up into the door way and felt the corners of his lips turn upward. Was he really going to have coffee with Bowers? He watched the maid continue down the hall, the rolling of the wheels filling the empty silence.

Richie went back into his room and closed the door, shaking his head and taking a moment to take it in. Yeah, she just asked him on a date. There's a difference between having coffee.. and having coffee. Richie looked in the mirror and scoffed to himself.

The others weren't gonna believe him..

(Deffinantly will need a part two and maybe part three if this story really goes anywhere, we'll just have to see!)

Hi Taylor!! Can you believe that I'll be seeing you VERY VERY SOON??? Because I definitely can't and I'm so so SO excited!! I thought I'd take this chance and do a little timeline post thing so you can get to know our friendship (you're my best friend even though you don't know me ok lol) a bit better 😂 I'll keep it nice and short and focus around the theme of tours hehe

Soooo our story began in 2009 when I first heard Love Story on radio and instantly fell in love with it, and very quickly you became like my best friend and big sister that I feel like I could share everything with, and you taught me so many valuable things about life through your music, and getting to see you in person became something that I so desperately wanted.

Unfortunately I couldn't attend the Fearless tour when you brought it to Australia in 2010 because my parents just straight up said no since I was only 12 and too young :( and I missed out on Speak Now as well, because both my parents and my friend's couldn't take us, and watching the tickets sell out slowly was the saddest thing for 13 year old me :(

BUT flash forward to 2013 and I FINALLY GOT TO SEE YOU FOR THE RED TOUR!! I still remember how insanely happy I was when my parents said yes and the moment I bought the tickets to Red Tour Melbourne was one of the happiest moments of my life. I remember going to school the next day and screaming and spinning around with my friend who also got tickets and we fell on the ground just laughing because we were SO happy :') I went to school every day counting down the days with my friends and it was the best thing. Here's a photo from the day (it's literally one of the only like 3 photos we took because we were too excited to take pictures and wanted to fully live each moment), and what I posted on facebook after I saw you hehe I was clearly VERY happy and excited hence how incoherent I was lol

But yeah FLASH FORWARD ANOTHER FEW YEARS to when I saw you for the 1989 tour!! Originally I couldn't afford good tickets but my friend Karen (in the photo below with me she's an ANGEL) offered to pay for a portion of my tickets and I ended up being able to see you from the front half of floor 😭 that night meant so much to me, and the fact that you surprised us with Long Live was one of the best things ever, being able to sing it with you then meant the world to me. I had quite a few rough years going through from 2013-2015 and getting to hear the Clean speech and singing the song with you meant so so so much to me, you have no idea just how much that song means to me, and seeing you that night made me the happiest I've been in a while 💕 Once again we didn't really take pictures and my friend didn't want her face shown sooooo here's the shirts we made plus me, Karen and a huge rainbow LOL

But yeah this is getting really long so I'll wrap up here by saying I'm so so SSOSOSOSO EXCITED TO SEE YOU ON THE 26TH OF OCTOBER IN MELBOURNE!!!!! The show will be held at the same stadium where I saw you for the very first time for the Red Tour so it'll be so special hehe 💕 But yeah can't wait to reunite with you and get to sing and dance my heart out with you under the lights and confetti, I'm so proud of everything you've already achieved with this album and tour, seeing you smiling as radiantly and happily as you are now makes me the absolute happiest 💛 but yeah in case you're wondering, my seats are in section A9, row BB, seats 6-9! Can't wait to see you, I love you to the bottom of the ocean and back @taylorswift x

I honestly can't believe I'm making a tour post, something I never thought I'd be able to do, but here it is!

10 years! For 10 years I've been a swiftie and for 10 years I've been dreaming of seeing Tay live and guess what?! It's finally happening!!! I honestly cannot believe it!!!

Throwback to awkward me when I bought my 1989 album/shirt:

On August 28th I will be seeing my one and only queen for the very first time and I can't tell you how much this means to me! Taylor was there for me when no one else was, she has helped through A LOT and honestly, I don't think I'd be where I am now if it weren't for her. She's really the reason I have decided to go to college, something I wasn't going to do before because the thought of going into debt scared me so much. But Taylor has shown me that sometimes all you need to do is take a leap of faith and everything will work out!

November 10th, 2017 😍:

I'm so so so excited for the Rep Tour because not only will it be my first time seeing Taylor but I'll also be attending with my mom! My mom, Elaine, is almost as big of a swiftie as I am so we're both freaking out! It's honestly going to be so fun for us to be able to bond over Taylor together!!!!

hey @taylorswift we haven't met but I feel like you've known me for a while. I grew up in Mississippi where everyone listens to country music. I remember hearing Our Song for the first time in the backseat of the car when I was in third grade. I grew up when you did too, from Love Story to Blank Space. Last August I got tumblr and my first day of having it you were trending because you had deleted everything off your social media accounts. I wanted to see what the buzz was about, and not long after I became a casual fan, and by Rep's release had my tumblr account dedicated to you.

I know I haven't been here as long as some other people and there a lot of other dedicated fans that are so worthy of meeting you, but I have convinced some friends of mine to come with me to your Nashville show! While there, we should definitely hang out if you aren't busy hosting any big shows.

We're all FIVE saving up to hear you and to get T-shirt's made! We're broke as heck but we're gonna pull it off, I promise. Like we're literally going door to door selling baked goods Saturday just so we can raise money to go to rep tour. jsudhsjdhdhd. We are sad beautiful tragic poor!!!

*About 9 days ago, on May 22nd, 2018, I had just arrived home from your Seattle show at CenturyLink Field. It was 4am and I couldn’t sleep. I had so much on my mind and was still on a high from your show. So, in the early hours of the morning, after my friends had long gone to bed, I began to write. I’ve revised my original note quite a bit since then. I’ve also had the opportunity to do some additional reflecting since tour, and I have some thoughts. So, I guess this is the end-result of a mash-up of 4AM overly-emotional rambling, combined with well thought-out, fully coherent, mature writing. I feel like I really over-explained this. I could have been a lot less-awkward in setting this up. Let's just get into it:

[SO. I just got home from your Seattle show. It's 4 am and I can't sleep. This was my 6th tour, and I made what seems like an infinite amount of unforgettable memories with a group of incredible people I call my ‘Swiftie Fam” (the name needs work...). There's Cecil (my long-time, Canadian Swiftie friend, you’ll see him in earlier posts), Wanda (Cecil’s wife), Kaeden (7. Cecil & Wanda’s son. Major Swiftie. His first concert!), and finally the beautiful Maile (a recent addition to the fam, and now a life-long friend!).  It’s hard to explain in words, but we all have developed a connection that’s special and unique because of what we experienced together. I couldn’t have asked for a better group of people to stand by my side tonight. We danced, laughed, and cried together… I don’t think I’ve ever felt more understood. These people ‘get’ me.

Not surprisingly, I screamed every single lyric at the top of my lungs and subsequently lost my voice almost IMMEDATIELY. With that in mind, I suppose a more accurate description would be: I wasn’t so much singing, as I was gasping for the remainder of the show. I literally danced with until I was out of breath. I cried (ok, SOBBED) all of my make-up off (a Long Live/NYD mash-up… are you kidding me?! I FEEL ATTACKED). 

By the end of the night, I resembled a pathetic, overly-emotional, glittery, drowned rat.

and I was living my absolute best life.

Also, I was REALLY proud of our outfits this time around! I think we did a decent job of recreating your Direct TV commercial, with my rainbow two-piece, and Cecil’s interpretation of Olivia Benson dressed as a Caticorn (I can’t say I ever thought I’d use that in a sentence). It consisted of around 8-10 hours total of gluing, painting, and hand-sewing, leading up to the show. Everything turned out awesome, way better than expected. Totally worth the man hours! Wanda hand-made matching these adorable matching t-shirts for her and little Kaden (Big Rep & Little Rep), and Maile constructed a beautiful MASTERPIECE from the mountain LYWMMD outfit- it was freakin’ incredible and HOT!

There was something a bit different about this tour for a couple of reasons:

[The production.] I don’t think I’ve experienced such sensory-overload in my LIFE. The whole time it was like a constant stream of frantic, internal dialogue with a lot of run-on sentences, like, “WHAT IS HAPPENING SHE’S GIVING US CHOREO OMG YAAASSS WERK HONEY IF A MAN TALKS SHIT WE DON'T OWE HIM A DAMN THING OH MY GOD ITS RAINING CONFETTI I MUST COLLECT IT I HOPE THESE MULTI-COLORED FLASHING LIGHTS DON’T GIVE ME AN EPILEPTIC ATTACK WHERE THE F-CK DID THESE GIGANTIC SNAKES COME FROM THERE ARE LITERALLY STAGES EVERYWHERE I’M OVERWHELMED OH SHIT SHES PULLING A SPEAK NOW BY WALKING THROUGH THE CROWD WHAT'S GOING ON OH GOD F-CKING FIREWORKS THESE VOCALS ARE LIT THO I'M SWEATING I’M DEFINITELY GONNA NEED THERAPY AFTER THIS NEW YEARS DAY/LONG LIVE MASH UP IS THAT A FOUNTAIN WHATS HAPPENING OH GOD IT’S REAL WATER AND SHE’S IN THE FOUNTAIN I’M HAVING A 2008 SHOULD’VE SAID NO ACM AWARDS FLASHBACK MOMENT HOLY SH-T MORE F-CKING FIREWORKS SO MUCH PYRO IS THIS EVEN LEGAL” I’ve gotta say, you have BEST band (Paul, Amos and Mike..OGS), vocalists (Eliott and Kamilah…the TALENT), and all the dancers. Every single person on that stage was on FIRE, and their talent, passion, and individual personalities made the night sparkle.

[The fans.] I freaking adore this fan culture. I’ve never met a Swiftie who wasn’t ridiculously friendly, welcoming, and super relatable. The vibe was so positive. I’ve never smiled, waved and taken pictures with so many random strangers in my life. It felt as if we were literally in a different world that day. It felt like home.

[YOU!.]  We need to talk about this major GLO UP you’ve got going on, honey. You exude SO much confidence and you're just pure sunshine. When I think about the way you’ve carried yourself these past couple of years through all of the BS drama, I can’t help but feel damn proud. You’ve successfully converted pain into art, into music. Real music, that’s poignant, raw, and just BAD ASS. Your lyrics continue to foster a special connection you maintain with the audience...a connection that often times breathes life into brokenness.

I felt like the luckiest girl in the entire world tonight. 

This may have been my best concert experience ever, which is actually pretty ironic because:

Unlike Red, I wasn’t in the Pit

I didn’t have VIP seating, like 1989

You weren’t close enough for any potential high fives, waves, or eye contact like I experienced at Speak Now at B-Stage

We were not chosen for Rep Room (or T-Party, Club Red, or Loft 89)

…But, it was OK. It was way more than OK. It was truly a dream.

Listen: Something I've always deeply admired about you is that you make it a priority to maintain a personal relationship with the fans.  It’s clear you want to meet as many of us as possible, and you make a conscious effort to do so. You get to know us as individuals and you CARE, and that means everything us and makes such an impact. I mean, you invite us into your HOME for crying out loud, you walk through massive crowds and give high-fives, you lurk our Instagrams and Tumblrs and interact on social media, and you always make a notable effort to meet as many of us as possible at tour.

However, this can sometimes turn into a bit of a "Catch 22" situation for people. The downside, is that it’s honestly SUPER easy to fall into the “trap” of being consumed with the possibility of meeting you after your shows. Due to the fact that the “selection” process is both intentional, yet also random. To be transparent, it's quite difficult to not obsess with the idea of ‘trying’ to get chosen. I witness this behavior so often, in others and in myself just as much, if not more. Selfishly, I often feel not only jealous, but UPSET when I see photos/read experiences of other fans meeting you. I sometimes feel like the only one who hasn’t yet gotten the opportunity.  It can quickly turn into a mind-game if you're not careful, which has the potential to become toxic if we allow the idea of meeting you to rule supreme over what it's actually about...which is the MUSIC. And, this amazing show you put on for us night after night. And somewhat understandably so, I've witnessed the obsession with being chosen to meet you become a main focus point for a lot of us (including myself a bit!). It's pretty stressful, and can easily dampen or cheapen the concert experience, if you're not careful. As dramatic as this probably sounds, Tumblr (and social media) can be brutal within this fandom, and dare I say ‘cut-throat’ at times. It's easy to get upset watching (what seems like) literally EVERYONE get that opportunity, except you. 

That said, I had a wake-up call/mini-epiphany recently, which manifested while driving home from your show at Midnight on May 22nd with my friends, feeling so amazing and so grateful for what I just experienced…but also a little guilty because I feel like I’ve spent way too much time worrying about the possibility of meeting at you when you come to Seattle, how to get the attention of Taylor Nation, where to find Mama Swift, getting that guitar pick from Papa Swift, and this time was no different. Granted, my intentions are 100% pure and it’s only because you’ve meant so freakin much to me for so many years, and it's almost as if my life won’t be complete until I finally get to tell you in person. That said, there is certainty a valuable lesson to be learned here. I am confident that you and I will come face-to-face one day (hopefully with my Swifie fam!). The stars will align at the exactly the right time, and I will have my moment with you, and it will be SO worth the wait. You can't "force" stuff like this, you know? The privilege of meeting you is almost ‘sacred’ in a sense. At least in my opinion. Anyway, my point is: I refuse to a continue to attempt to “create fate” by attempting to "earn" my worthiness in fandom. It’s not productive, it's not healthy, and it’s not cute.

Alright, this is getting out of hand. I need to wrap this up. 🤣 I’m not sure whether or not you’ve seen any of my throwback photo-posts I posted the week leading up to the show. They definitely explain a lot more about me, and my history being a fan. Either way, I must reiterate how grateful I am to have you in my life, and that support you 100% and will always be here. The amount of hope, joy and comfort you've given me over the past 10+ years is insurmountable, and I'll never be able to repay you for that. And I mean that in the most sincere way. Not a lot of things make me as happy as you make me (especially lately). This experience was the ‘boost’ I needed, I think. And like I said, the relationship I have with my friends/Swiftie Fam is invaluable, and I look forward to making memories with them at your shows in the future. You’ve brought the most random group of people together and created a bond that’s unique, unconditional and unbreakable, and I think that’s so cool.

Getaway Car

The song is about Taylor using an affair to get away from a bad relationship. Before Midnight's High Infidelity dated the events as prior to the 2016 Met Gala and before the 1989 TV Vault had lyrical similarities it was widely accepted as about the PR relationship with Tom Hiddleston. Poor Tom was rather surprised, considering they dated for a few weeks, it was after Taylor and Calvin split up and more than a year before Reputation came out.

Getaway Car is written to the muse who Taylor had an affair with, someone who is surprised and she is sorry for hurting. For context, her relationship with Calvin and his behaviour can safely be called problematic (x, x, x, x, x, x and x). CH really 'Got out some popcorn / As soon as her rep starting going down, down, down'. Her mental state:

Getaway Car is a pithy and fun but honest about poor choices. Although a year later it's closer to 29 April, 2016, with more hindsight Taylor was warmer towards to the 'other man' in High Infidelity on Midnights:

Do you really want to know where I was April 29th? Do I really have to chart the constellations in his eyes? [and] Do I really have to tell you how he brought me back to life?

Taylor also describes Reputation as a love story, many songs on which are about Harry, as are those on Lover which also express regret. I think the alleged affair would have been motivated from getting out of a situation which was not good for Taylor, however as we know from Harry's Debut it really hurt him. Lover and Folklore express a lot of regret, and I think they have both moved on.

And Taylor's longer, curly, darker coloured hair. To me, this looks like her hair in May and June 2017. Getaway Car was (at least in part) written and recorded in 2017. I think this adds to a song with more storytelling that diary writing, I think Taylor was quite affected by trying to get out of the relationship with Calvin, one she's sung about little and never warmly.

You can read Jack's comments about the video. It's interesting Jack commented on why it was being recorded, it seems Taylor did that a lot in the Rep era, and TBH it seems good practice to prevent any copyright claims, she also talks to the camera to note the lyric.

Live Performances

Getaway car was the first song in the Reputation Encore, it followed the Why She Disappeared poem. The tour visuals were reminiscent of I Knew You Were Trouble, the Reputation stage is an X and shot to showcase that here. The motel is called "Last time motel" which is reminiscent of The Last Time. It ends on Taylor getting into a black vintage convertible reminiscent of Blank Space.

It was an Era's surprise song 27 May 2023, Jack Antonoff joined Taylor on stage and added a nice sarcastic "oh yeah, we're both sorry." The last time Taylor was seen with MH was the 18th May, the break up was reported 5 June 2023.

'It was the best of times, the worst of crimes' is a reference to Charles Dickens A Tale of Two Cities. The cities being Paris and London. This quote is in a passage that describes Taylors 2016 quite well: “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, [...] it was the season of darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair” It reminds me of "This Summer is the Apocalypse".

'Worst of Crimes' is similar to Where do broken hearts go "All the rest of my crimes don't come close"

"Struck match and blew your mind" is similar to "Strike a match, then you blow it out" in Say don't go. and Right Where You Left Me: "Matches burn after the other"

The ties were black, the lies were white In shades of gray in candlelight I wanted to leave him, I needed a reason

"Ties were black, likes were white" appears to point to the Met Gala, and I do think that is the intention of the line (and relationship) Taylor also was at the Black-tie Vanity Fair Oscar Party in LA on 28 February 2016, the day Harry tweeted (in LA) an Elvis Stuck on You Lyric "You can shake an apple off an apple tree." Harry was not at the Vanity Fair party, however he also has leaks from this era that refer to picking his muse up and driving them home. I did something bad and Sweet Creature have more on that time.

The shades were grey is similar to 50 Shades of Grey, which Taylor wrote I don't wanna live forever for about Harry. Candles are also in New Years Day "Candle wax and Polaroids on the hardwood floor" and Hunger "Candles burnt down to the floor"

'X Marks the Spot where we fell apart' is line from Hilary Duff Breathe in. Breathe Out which Taylor said she liked in an Tumblr post 25 June 2015 and used the melody of in Paper Rings and title in Labyrinth. It's a song and line that is sad about the relationship not working out with someone untruthful. In the 2015 timeline the timing of this post is a little interesting.

'Poisoning the well' is meaning Calvin ruined the chance of this affair by discrediting or ridiculing it, with the diss track Ole.

An Old Fashioned is whiskey, also in Gorgeous "Whiskey on Ice, Sunset and Vine, you’ve ruined my life by not being mine"

Never had a shotgun shot in the dark is similar to Say Don't Go: "I've known it from the very start / We're a shot in the darkest dark"

The line "think about the place where you first met me" is also often referred to in reference to Taylor meeting Tom Hiddleston at the Met, which again I think is with intention. Though there is not a particular reason to think someone at the Met Gala would do this.

It's also generally assumed Harry and Taylor met at the Kids Choice Awards in 2012, however neither has confirmed this, and it is simply the first time they were seen together by fans. As 2011 timeline outlines it seems Harry and Taylor were already connected then. These lyrics indicates their first meeting was brief (Holy Ground), she was not over Jake (Begin Again) and she was not looking for love (Suburban Legend):

Let’s get to the band members first!

Andy McCluskey

Here’s the bossy one. As he puts it, he’s the butcherwho cuts off the raw materials of the song; the director who basically tellsPaul what to do, the one who sees the big picture, while Paul is the surgeonwho splices the details. He sings, plays bass, and writes the lyrics for mostof their songs. And he always dances madly, even in the recent years! For a58-year old guy with bad knees, he’s VERY energetic. So as you can see, he’sthe dominant one. Powerful, loud, cheerful, salty as fuck, thoroughly hatesrock ‘n’ roll, claims he hates cliché love songs but writes them anyway. I lovehim nonetheless

Paul Humphreys

THIS IS MY FAVORITE GUY OFF OMD. MY LOVE. MY HANDSOMEHAMSTER. HE’S CUTE ISN’T HE? Alright, so… he’s the keyboardist, the creativeand technical one. He’s the one who usually comes up with a melody and thenAndy directs how the song should turn out. He’s the one who does most of thesynth sounds! In the old days, he used to build his own “noise machine” bymessing with the circuits and such of old, broken radios. Don’t tell me that’snot badass. He also sings in a couple of OMD’s songs, most notably in“Electricity”, “Souvenir”, “(Forever) Live and Die”, and “Secret”.Personality-wise, he’s the complete opposite of Andy. He’s more quiet, shy,soft, and just lovely overall 

Other members are MalcolmHolmes (the long-haired one in the picture above) who was the drummer from the beginning of the band until 2013. Inthat year, he had a cardiac arrest and temporarily died so he had to retire.From 2013 onwards, Stuart Kershaw tookthe drummer position. Another member is MartinCooper (the one with the blue shirt), the saxophonist/keyboardist/occasional bassist. He’s still with theband until now! Except when OMD broke up because he and Mal went along withPaul instead of Andy, but I’ll get to that later…

They embrace the “punk” attitude in terms of music. Youknow, making music as simple as possible. They always say this joke of “We’rethe punks of electronic. Punk plays with one chord, we play with one finger!”

Now, it’s history time. Let’s go back to the 70s

Andy and Paul had always been the hipsters of that era. Theylistened to electronic bands like Kraftwerk, Neu, La Dusseldorf (Kraftwerk,mostly) while their peers listened to prog rock. Andy was in a band and Paulwas the roadie. Despite always being in the same school, that was when theynoticed how they shared the similar interest towards Kraftwerk, so Andy quitthe band and formed his own with Paul that we now know as the pretentiouslynamed Orchestral Manoeuves in the Dark

They started off as a supporting band fo Joy Division inEric’s Club in Liverpool. They didn’t expect to have a longlasting career… theyreally thought it would be their first and last gig. They just wanted to provethemselves and their mates that they dared to go on stage doing somethingdifferent; doing weird electronic music, hence the odd band name. With such apretentious name, they wanted to show the audience how they were doingsomething different

And then they were offered a second gig in Manchester.That’s where they met Tony Wilson, and he signed them up to Factory Records.Then “Electricity” was recorded, and Tony sent it to various major labels, oneof which was Virgin Records, so they moved to Virgin. It was in 1979/1980 Ithink? And with their 1980 album, Organisation (their second one. Their firstone, the self-titled one, was released in the same year) – which they claim asbeing influenced by Joy Division, so this album is basically the child of JoyDivision and Kraftwerk – which included “Enola Gay”, they became well known.They got even bigger with the Architecture and Morality album, which has“Souvenir”, “Joan of Arc”, “Maid of Orleans”…

They commercially dropped dead with Dazzle Ships (1983). Itwas an experimental album, which I personally think sounds great, but probablynot acceptable enough at that time. Despite having quite successful hits like“Telegraph” and “Genetic Engineering”, that album almost single-handedly killedtheir career. So they took a safer path in their next album, Junk Culture(1984), embracing a more pop-ish sound. It can be heard on their catchy hitsfrom Junk Culture, like “Locomotion” and “Talking Loud and Clear”

Their 1985 album, Crush, was produced by Stephen Hague, whowas also the producer for New Order and Pet Shop Boys. They finally got intoUS’ charts with that album, I guess?? Regarding that album and that year, theyoften say something like “We were trying to break America, but America broke usinstead”, so I can’t be quite sure of what happened… commercially, it waspretty successful, I think… with singles like “Secret” and “La Femme Accident”

It was also in circa 1985 where their most notable song, “IfYou Leave”, was also made. Fun fact: they only wrote it in a day, because JohnHughes changed the ending suddenly and called them and said, “Hey, the song youwrote won’t fit to the new ending, could you write a new one?” right beforethey went on tour. The track that was initially going to be used in Pretty inPink, “Goddess of Love”, was later put on The Pacific Age (1986). Speaking ofwhich, that album has “(Forever) Live and Die”, which is a BANGER and is sungby my handsome hamster, Paul

Then they broke up sometime in late 80s. 1989, I think. Theyowed the company a lot of money, so they made a Best Of album. But even thatwasn’t enough. Their choice was either to make another new album (which canmake money, quite possibly, but due to their past experiences, they barely gotany money left because the touring expenses, royalties to their manager, etcwere so expensive) or to stop and just wait for the money to come from theirprevious albums’ royalties (I’m not really sure about this one, they’ve toldthe story a couple of times during interviews but I could never 100% understandthe story). This is where Andy and Paul went their separate ways. Andy chose tocarry on while Paul chose to stop. So Andy carried the name OMD alone (underhis stubbornness). A couple of years later, Paul, Martin, and Malcolm formedThe Listening Pool. Both were obscured by the new trend in 90s that was Britpopand such (Andy often implies that he blames Britpop for the obscurity ofelectronic bands and I loathe him for that smh I’m a Britpop hoe, fuck youAndy). Andy (as OMD) released 3 albums on that decade, tho. Later on, he formedAtomic Kitten

And then they were reunited in 2006/2007, because they wereasked to perform in a German TV. Then they thought, “Oh, people still like us.Maybe we could make music again.” And so they did… they released History ofModern in 2010, English Electric in 2013, and their latest record, ThePunishment of Luxury, was released a month ago! Unlike the 80s, they are nolonger pressured by their record company, so they’re really doing this purelyfor fun. By the way, their latest single off their latest record, “What Have WeDone”, is sung by Paul and it’s fucking glorious. You should listen to it ifyou haven’t

On a more personal note, I find it weird how they’re bothvery influential and infamous. I mean… they don’t only influence other synthpopbands, but also an alternative like Radiohead. I heard that “Fitter Happier” byRadiohead was influenced by “Genetic Engineering”, and now that I think aboutit, “Fitter Happier” does sound like something out of Dazzle Ships. I’ve been aRadiohead fan since 2011/2012 and yet I literally never heard of OMD until thisyear; not until I got to New Order and was getting more cultured regarding 80ssynthpop acts

Lastly, here are some trivia you might not want to know butsounds like fun to share:

Before realizing that they could be actual musicians, Andy wanted to be an archaeologist, while Paul wanted to be an electric engineer

Atomic Kitten was basically Karl Bartos’ (Kraftwerk) idea. Andy wanted to keep writing songs, but he wasn’t confident enough to perform the songs as OMD, so he thought of just handing them to someone else. Then Karl suggested that he should create a pop group where they would sing his songs. Andy thought, “What’s the most popular group nowadays? Oh, I know, 3-piece girls!”

In the recent years, OMD often have underwears thrown at them lmao. Especially during “(Forever) Live and Die”. Poor Paul having to deal with nasty fans (but honestly… I’d do the same). But sometimes they have hazardous shits thrown at them too. One time, Paul had his head hit by a glass bottle (I’LL FUCKING MURDER ANYONE WHO DID THAT. HOW DARE THEY HURT MY BABY). And Andy almost got decapitated when someone threw a metal tray aimed to his neck. Terrifying

Somehow, when they were touring, the bus they rode on resemble a group of terrorists’ bus, so they were surrounded by guns… and luckily, “Enola Gay” was already a big hit, so Andy just waved a magazine with their faces on it and said “’Enola Gay’! Pop stars! Not terrorists!” jesus Christ

There’s actually a version of “Souvenir” where it was sung by Andy. In 2015, Paul was hospitalized in New York, but he insisted that they should do this gig in Perth, so they did, only 3 of them… “Souvenir” was on the set, and Andy sang it. It was… okay, I guess. I’m so used to Paul’s soft voice singing that, so it’s kinda weird to hear Andy’s powerful voice singing it
