Explain the shift: the left-brain method.
This is one of the easiest ways to shift I ever found, and it can be used to manifest too (in manifestation, basically the void state).
Tumblr media
This method takes advantage of the fact that the body takes from 15 to 20 minutes to fall asleep.
HOW TO DO THIS METHOD?
The most important step is to lay still in a comfortable position, not move, and start to visualize your DR, visualize about the memories and scenes of your DR. You can say positive affirmations too. inevitably, you will fall asleep. When you wake up, you will be in your DR
Tumblr media
IT IS THAT EASY! BUT LET ME EXPLAIN WHY!
This method, as said before, takes advantage of the fact that our body falls asleep. Our body falls asleep, but our mind doesn't. Our left side of the brain is the side in charge of the logical thinking and processing of information. Once this side is turned off, not only are we more inclined to believe in shifting, etc., but we also become more connected to it.
Salvador Dali, a famous painter, was often inspired by his dreams for his paintings. He used to fall asleep on a chair with a key in hand and a silver plate at his feet. Once he falls asleep, his muscles will relax and let the key fall on the silver plate, causing him to wake up and start to paint right away. All Salvador Dali did was turn off his left side.
Tumblr media
As always, I will love to hear your thoughts! and if you have any questions, I will be more than happy to answer them! If you liked it, leave a comment or reblog (that is always appreciated!). and have a wonderful day or night!

Thought Trail: Midnights in Paris
Karlie has been mentioning Paris a lot and now that we know the title of TS10 (or TS12 depending on your preference) it makes me think there is a Midnight in Paris connection worth exploring here
Below are the the konnections I see to support this clownery 🤡🤡 bare with me…
In 2022 alone Karlie has just not let up on Paris references and posts like yes to me it feels more than usual
Examples:
Karlie’s Eiffel Tower joke made three separate times
Via ig story ig post and tiktok
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Karlie posting a tiktok the same day Taylor posted about the VMA nominations throwing it back to this smoking hot look from Paris back in July
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Karlie doing the teenage dirtbag tiktok challenge specifically focusing on her time in Paris at 15
Karlie doing a tiktok sharing 5 things about herself and saying she speaks French really well then mispronounces Français lol
Tumblr media
And then I thought back to the old IG posts from 2012 and 2013 where she used the caption Midnight in Paris
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
For the September 2013 post she included a clock 🕰
And we know she was there that night to do a shoot for the VS Holiday Commercial in Paris
This was shortly before Taylor and Karlie fully met at the VSFS on 11/13/13
Also I dare someone to tell me the “wan wan wan” in Don’t Blame Me doesn’t sound like the “wan wan wan” in Waiting Game by Banks (the song in the 2013 VS holiday commercial)
Then I thought about Taylor doing the City of Lover concert in Paris that was filmed in September 2019 and making Paris and French like the focal point of Me! And some of the Lover album rollout:
And the collage art murals with the Eiffel Tower and the locket (I can’t add anymore pictures to this post lol)
And then most recently Jack wearing a Paris tshirt on 8/31 in his ig story when we kinda know he likely produced some tracks on Midnights
Tumblr media
This theory all came together based on my vague memory of this old Vogue Model Wall interview Karlie did in 2012 where she said she was excited to see Midnight in Paris
Tumblr media
Summation
I just feel like Midnight in Paris is a thing. I know Karlie goes to Paris Fashion week every year and is always working with French designers so some will say it’s not that deep. And maybe its not but I just feel like this was a fun trail to travel down.
How does this tie into Midnight in Paris the film:
The movie is all about a screenwriter who hallucinates that he goes back in time to the 1920s every night where he meets and hangs out with all these famous artists, musicians and writers from back in that time. And his fiancé name is Inez (remember betty) in the movie (played by Rachel McAdams). He meets Zelda and F Scott Fitzgerald (the Great Gatsby - there were plenty analyses about folklore/evermore and gatsby), Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dali (TLGAD), Ernest Hemingway (the Sun Also Rises - someone can do a whole analysis on this novel) and others.
I just feel like there is something here with Taylor using escapism in folklore and evermore that was inspired by books and stories and now Midnights that is her late night writings that just feels connected.
This is just my clownery 🤡🤡

“Brian [Jones], as one might expect, was dressed in typical rock musician gear: long scarves, beads around his neck, a wide brimmed hat and dark glasses. Tara [Browne] was dressed in a lacy, frilled shirt and purple velvet suit, which might have come straight from the time of the Restoration. I was wearing a miniskirt and boots. Our entrance didn’t go unnoticed. I immediately stumbled on a couple of friends from London, John and Dennis, identical twins, both beautiful and bronzed from a holiday in Spain. They were sitting at a long table presided over by Salvador Dali and they asked us to join them. The Master was sitting on a kind of throne, surrounded by his adoring courtesans and favourites. I couldn’t resist the idea of meeting Dali in the flesh. He rose to greet us, went through the motions of kissing my hand, then exclaimed pompously: "How do you do? I see the heavenly twins have done a good job." Without asking our names he introduced us to his Court: “Mademoiselle Ginesta, the Rolling Stone, Lord…you must be a Lord aren’t you?” Tara tried not to laugh and Brian, behind his dark glasses rolled his eyes in disbelief.  I had the distinct impression Dali was making fools of us and said huffily, "My name is Amanda, not Ginesta, and ‘His Lordship’ is Tara, and the Rolling Stone is, as I think you know, Brian Jones.” "But of course, the famous musician." His English was comical and he rolled his r’s in an exaggerated fashion. "Amanda!, What a pretty name!" We’ve never had an Amanda at the Court. We have a Saint Sebastian, a Red Guard, a Unicorn, a Cardinal… sit down beside Louis XIV, I beg you. She speaks excellent English. Did you know that Louis spoke English in New York with Greta Garbo?” Louis XIV turned out to be a blonde woman, dripping with jewels, who did ask me one or two questions in English. Dali was balding and slightly overweight. I found him pretentious and, to be quite honest, ridiculous with his waxed moustache and gold lame waistcoat. To add emphasis to his words he brandished a gold-topped cane… Early into the evening Dali got up and announced that he was going to bed - “Gala doesn’t like me to stay up too late” -at the same time insisting that we stay on as his guests. Louis XIV and one of the young girls also rose to leave. As he departed, Dali kissed my hand emphatically and asked if I was free for lunch the following day. Without waiting for my answer, he continued: “Bring your friend. I shall be waiting for you at Lasserre’s. You know it? See you at one o’clock on the dot.” Then he was off in a wake of tuberose; he wore a bloom behind his ear, while the young “virgin” solemnly carried one in her hand like a candle. Brian was thrilled. “He’s crazy, man, completely crazy!” "The following day Tara was eagerly awaiting our lunch at Lasserre's so I made myself up carefully and picked out a mini-dress in violet silk, knee length boots and put on all my lucky charm rings.
Dali was seated at a long table by the window. One could see that he touched up his famous moustache with black pencil. He scrutinized me by the light of the window. "Are you Chinese?" "No, English." He suddenly asked me point blank if I was a lesbian. I was speechless. "All girls have a bit of lesbian in them, just as all boys have a little of the homosexual. I bet your friend here likes boys, like all well-bred young Englishmen." Tara laughed nervously. As for myself, I was never able to accept this need to shock at any price. It was, of course, a surrealist's gambit but which I always felt unnecessary amongst friends.... The meeting with Dali had left me worried. Until then Tara had been the most important person in my life. He still was, but I was suddenly beginning to realize that outside my world of rock music, drugs and fashion there was a whole new world waiting to be discovered...and Dali had given me a glimpse of it.”

Advice to Work on Yourself 🏊🏼‍♀️ in August 2023: Virgo
9 Wands - Ace of Pentacles - 3 Swords
Regarding: Queen of Wands
You’re needing to draw realistic boundaries with someone, while still being nice. For many, this is someone you’re dating and you’re talking about moving in together, getting more serious…or this person has mentioned it, and you know it’s coming eventually. For others it’s a friend, roommate, sibling, whoever, could be a fire 🔥 sign. If not, then it’s someone that’s kinda pushy, bossy, possibly “just decides” on things without you and doesn’t communicate or…ask. Especially if it’s theirs too, whatever it is. It’s also possible that this person is planning on moving someone else in, a friend in need, a sibling, the kid down the street, a person from work down on their luck or something. And you’re like HOLD the phone 📱 *panic mode* You do not think so ma’am/sir, but you don’t want to be aggressive or rude about approaching this with them, or let them know how bothered you are.
I don’t get this has actually happened yet because it’s still in planning or talking stages - 2 Wands. Your person may be making plans with other people and you don’t even know about it, leading to a wtf moment. 9 Wands shows you as feeling like you have to guard your home, your relationship, what’s rightfully yours, and be the voice of reason. Especially financially, you’re worried about the finances involved with these things more than anything. If this is a romantic connection, you’re still seeing it as pretty new, you don’t know how this person operates their life, like do they even have lists, savings accounts, or are we yoloing on 20 different tv subscriptions and a daily Hello Fresh delivery because NO.
I do get an extravagant or freely spending vibe from this person, that raises all of your flags. I get you like them, love them even…newly, Ace of Cups, but you’re hesitant to *combine* lifestyles just yet. If they’re trying to bring in a friend or something it’s just absolute no in your mind, but you know Queen of Wands doesn’t hear “no”. 3 Swords is this coming to a point of painful, some outside factor is causing big problems here. It could be religion, for someone, or outside people being invited to crash on your couch and you’re like “did you even do a background check because honestly…”, there is a major difference in beliefs, lifestyles, or ideals that comes between you as the “3rd” energy. And that’s a big deal! Though they may not feel so.
The advice I’m getting for you is - they can be them and that’s fine - BUT: you are you. And that’s fine too. You get a say in your life, your finances, and your couch. You also have beliefs and preferences you expect to be respected by someone you’re teaming with, however you are. You will not be dominated, manipulated, ignored, or bossed around, period. But that doesn’t have to be said in a mean way, because you really don’t it to. Salvador Dali being reversed, for you is about facts, and Justice is giving a similar message. ASK every question you’re worried about. How many subscriptions? Do you cook? How is your credit? Do a background check if you want, it’s your life, they have to know this to like/love you right? If you want answers, get your answers, and then once those are satisfied, make a decision together that you both feel is most fair for you both. If they can’t do that, it’s their way only, there’s your red flag 🚩
Animal Oracle: Condor 🦅
“You’re too enmeshed in this situation, so step back and see the bigger picture before making any decisions or taking action.”
You’ve lost perspective here because you either believe there’s something you absolutely need to have happen or else you’re simply being too stubborn to let go, step back, and take a fresh look at your circumstances. It’s the forest vs the trees dilemma. You’re too close to clearly discern the reality of what’s actually taking place. So make practice of detachment. Most people think of this as a cold, sterile way of responding, but nothing is further from the truth. It’s worse to remain so utterly involved and entangled that you lose perspective - and sometimes even yourself. This familiar pattern stems from the guilty feeling that somehow you’re not doing enough unless you’re completely immersed in a person or situation, continually trying to fix the problem, person or situation or rescue people. While this gives a temporary sense of satisfaction, it also creates unhealthy dependencies.
True detachment is objective compassion, where you still care very much but are distanced enough so you’re not under the illusion you can control the situation or person through your intervention or participation. 1st, be present and attentive. 2nd, speak your truth or remain silent. 3rd, keep the focus on what really matters. Lastly, let go of any attachment to an outcome. This is how you keep perspective. You can state your preference without insisting you get your own way. Express yourself, while honoring & respecting others, and see what happens.
Artist Oracle: SALVADOR DALI (reversed)
- Never make an appearance without controversy.
- Tap the unconscious and pray it isn’t boring.
- Being Dali is inspiration enough.
Advice:
- Create a Financial Vision
- Upgrade Your Couch Time
Charms:
Dragonfly 🦋 on 4 Wands is about transformation and this is what you’re afraid of. You like things how they are! You don’t appreciate people telling you what you’re gonna do with your own possessions, home, family, what have you. Back up buttercup. But nicely. Your worries seem valid, you desire fairness, I don’t see you asking too much, but it’s possible that you’re feeling too rigid on some things too.
Cross ✝️ on Justice is possibly religious, your person or you could use beliefs or something like that against the other person, or in favor of their side. This could simply be referring to karma, especially being Justice, and equal give & take. It’s possible you’ve been through a difficult situation in the past relating to something like this one you’re going through currently, involving a lawsuit, divorce, squabbles, you seem to have a very good reason to take 10 steps back from jumping all in to this person’s desires.
Dress 👗 on Create a Financial Vision is one example of spending you’d like to get clearer and more organized on. It could be dresses, shoes, going out, takeout, hobbies, what does this person spend on “extras” and how will that affect you? It wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t something they probably spend a lot of money on. They want your commitment or agreement. You want Excel spreadsheets, and receipts. You’re probably going to have to meet in the middle and compromise if this has a chance to improve.

Story of Shin Megami Apples
This game has a story. Shocker, I know. I’m not going to spoil anything about it, but I do want to share a bit of how it came to be.
Tumblr media
A background used in the second area.
The first pitch for the game was a simple story of “Oh noes! Stephanie’s time machine broke and now she needs to get back home! Travel past and future and... get back I guess”. Just a justification to make the game a basic adventure, and meeting fun characters.
Tumblr media
Some of the first Stephanie doodles!
But, for the final boss, I thought it would be really funny to make the final boss a god, because you can’t have an RPG without killing a god at the end. So I searched gods of time and I found the concept of the kairos, the eon and the chronos of Greek philosophy and the idea of the game came to me almost instantly.
With that idea, Thomas, her boyfriend, was added to the story instead of being a Steph solo-adventure. And since his deal was that he could cook pies, I thought to myself “apples”. And that’s why this game is apple, love and time. Like pulled from a hat, I wouldn’t have it any other way.
After that, I just started researching more mythology. And what I learned helped me make the story. For example, the first area was originally going to be just the tutorial area, not much more. But then, I learned of the norse goddess Idun and said “A goddess... of apples?? I have to add her in” so I did, and based the first area on her most important. Plus, that gave me an excuse to add golden apples as collectables and... c’mon, that’s cool. Having stuff to base the characters on makes it so much easier to come up with ideas. Shocker, I know.
As for the areas themselves, they are each based on art pieces! The first one is very clearly based on that very famous melting clock one plus other surrealist pieces from Salvador Dali and Rene Magritte, the second area is based on many expressionist and impressionist paintings, and the last area... well, it’s the one that gave the idea for making everything be based on art pieces. It’s a painting that I saw and inspired this whole ordeal.
Tumblr media
An older version of the first area BG, but it was just too distracting for my liking.
Why is it based on art? Aside of it just being cool, the art references do tell a story too! It’s not, like, crucial to the game, and some of the reasons are very surface level, but I do feel it makes the areas stand out more. Plus, it helps me make backgrounds and decorations easier.
If I could add *anything* to the game, whatever I want, how do you even start? By basing it on the themes of the game and/or art pieces, it narrows down the scope of backgrounds and decorations, and helps me get things done. In general, I think themes are the most important thing to figure out from the beginning if you don’t want your own projects to be generic, but maybe I’ll talk about it another time.
It’s also an excuse to learn about nice art, nice cultures and mythology and not-so-nice art history and not-so-nice history .
If you wanna see the game and ask yourself “Why is Mercury a dog” you can do so here.

“I am not strange, I am just not normal.”
“I abhor averages.  I like the individual case.  A man may have six meals one day and none the next, making an average of three meals per day, but that is not a good way to live.”
“I always find that statistics are hard to swallow and impossible to digest.  The only one I can ever remember is that if all the people who go to sleep in church were laid end to end they would be a lot more comfortable.”
“Statistics are like bikinis.  What they reveal is suggestive, but what they conceal is vital.”
“Statistics are like prisoners under torture: with the proper tweaking you can get them to confess to anything.”
“Before the curse of statistics fell upon mankind we lived a happy, innocent life, full of merriment and go and informed by fairly good judgment.”
“I could prove God statistically.  Take the human body alone—the chances that all the functions of an individual would just happen is a statistical monstrosity.”
“Do not put your faith in what statistics say until you have carefully considered what they do not say.”
“The two most abundant things in the universe are hydrogen and stupidity.”
“There is more stupidity than hydrogen in the universe, and it has a longer shelf life.”
“The fine flower of stupidity blossoms in the attempt to appear less stupid.”
“There is no idea so stupid that you can’t get some professor to believe it.”
“Only two things are infinite—the universe and human stupidity, and I’m not sure about the universe.”
“We are all born ignorant, but one must work hard to remain stupid.”
“The greatest lesson in life is to know that even fools are right sometimes.”
“He may look like an idiot and talk like an idiot but don’t let that fool you.  He really is an idiot.”
“Style that shows is only decorating.”
“Style is a natural thing and has nothing to do with taste.”
“Many intelligent people, when about to write books, force on their minds a certain notion about style, just as they screw up their faces when they sit for their portraits.”

Surrealism
Hello! welcome to my first blog post of the surrealism series. For the next three weeks, I will be posting about Surrealism and topics related to it.
The Beginning
What is Surrealism - Surrealism aims to revolutionize the human experience. It also balances a rational vision of life with one that asserts the power of the unconscious and dream
Why Surrealism Important- Surrealism taught the world to see art not merely visually and literally; but to appreciate it on a subconscious level as well
Co-Founder- André Robert Breton was a French writer and poet. He was best known as the co-founder of surrealism. His writings about surrealism are included in his Manifesto, in which he defines surrealism as "psychic automatism". This means the thought in the absence of all control over moral or aesthetic concerns.  The artwork below is titled Egg in the church or The Snake, the media is a photographic collage. He describes the title and subject of symbolic cryptic Surrealist/ dreamlike interest in the female body as form, as well as an interest in themes concerning sexuality and religion

Surrealism dreamlike Imaginary
Intro- Surrealist dreams-like imagery is probably the most recognizable element of the surrealism movement. Each artist relied on their motifs through their unconscious mind being painted. At its basic, the imagery is perplexing and even uncanny, as it is meant to complex the viewer's mind. Some motifs that artist use in their works Include:  Max Ernst was obsessed with birds and Salvador Dali include ants or eggs.
Tumblr media
Die Verwandlung (The Transfiguration) – 1977
Artist #1- Speaking of Salvador Dali, was a Spanish surrealist artist renowned for his technical skill, precise draftsmanship, and striking and bizarre images in his work. This piece is titled The Persistence of Memory, he described the melting watches are a senseless symbol of time and space, its also thought of as the collapse of knowledge of cosmic order. He said he was inspired by Albert Esiten’s theory of Special relativity.
Tumblr media
The Persistence of Memory, 1931
Artist #2- Max Ernest is a German painter, sculptor, printmaker, graphic artist, and poet. This piece is titled The Triumph of Surrealism he stated that he tried to create a sense of chaos and destruction because He forces the viewer's mind to think of these elements in a biblical sense. Ernst draws his audience to imagine the angel in the painting as if it were the angel of death from the seven plagues.
Tumblr media
The Angel of the home,1937
War Effect on Surrealism
Intro- Most surrealist artists had to change their art to help express their moods and their unconscious minds about certain wars or periods. What was originally sweet-like dream settings become more monster-like and depressing.
Artist #1- Another painting by Salvador Dali and its titled Soft Construction with Boiled Beans. He created it to represent the terror of the Spanish Civil war, he also painted it only six months before it began. He claimed that he was aware the war was going to occur before it began because of the power of his subconscious mind. He also described it as the monster pulling its body parts, like my country is being pulled apart by the civil war.
Tumblr media
Soft Construction with Boiled Beans, 1936
Artist #2- Max Ernst, who fought in the trenches during World War I, began his painting "Europe after the Rain II" in France in 1940, before leaving Europe and arriving in New York in 1941. He said he wanted to show  emotional desolation, physical exhaustion, and fears of the destructive power of total warfare combined - after the rain of fire
Tumblr media
Europe after the Rain II, 1941
Surrealism in 3D
Intro- The newest form of surrealism was being formed and had to do with the sculpture's media, called assemblage. Surrealists believe this had the power to puncture the thin façade of our reality and tap into our minds. They also stated to aid the structured insanity of all the senses.
Artist #1- This piece is called Breakfast in fur created by Méret Oppenheim, who is a German-born Swiss Surrealist artist and photographer. She wanted the piece to cause the viewers different feelings within like for one she described the object to be relaxing but not causing aggression because of the fur or when the fur is nice to pet or touch but uncomfortable if drinking.
Tumblr media
Breakfast in Fur, 1936
Artist #2- This piece is called Dining Table and was created by Michael Beitz who is still alive he does sculptures, drawings, and functional designs to examine his relationships and anxieties. He described this piece to look at "the silent tension that often exists between close people and the inability to communicate." He says loves doing surrealism in the real world because he loves to change everyday items and change their structure
Tumblr media
Dining Table, 2011
Artist #3- This piece is called Knot and another one was created by Micheal Beitz, he described this piece as the need the cancellation within the sofa and it represents the no longer comfort and leisure. How he describes his works are very serious but somewhat pleasing to the viewer and funny and funny. This is stated isn't true the only thing funny things come from uneasy places.
Tumblr media
Knot, 2011
Surrealism and Graphic Design
Intro- Companies try to strive to craft refreshing items, this new refreshing can be a surrealist technique because it is an element of surprise for the design world. Customers can be caught off guard by a contrasting color palette, unusual pairs of images, and typefaces that stretch how a letterform can bend. Because of these wacky elements, it can create a unique language and viewers out of their traditional experiences into a different world.
Artist #1 This logo is created by KisaDesign and is titled Sandbox, it was for Sandbox Films which is a production studio that illuminates the art and beauty of science. The logo is creating a surreal look by changing the sand into the mountain.

Artist #2 This logo was created by Yiying Lu who is an award-winning artist, entrepreneur, educator, and bilingual speaker. She was named a “Fast Company's Most Creative People in Business” I couldn't find who she design this look for but again created the dream-like motif of making you second guess yourself. Couldn't find what the logo was designed for but this an example for of her surreal work

ToTWD 1x06: La Dona, Part 1
Okay, so this episode was weird. That’s the first thing I said to my fellow theorists after watching it. This episode is so weird. I’m not even sure what we’re supposed to glean from it. And that doesn’t happen very often. It’s very bizarre. Feels like a supernatural horror flick. I knew I’d need to watch it a bunch more before I really “got” it. But I was busy the first part of the week, and @galadrieljones beat me to the interpretation of it. So, I’ll give you predominantly her observations today, and then I’ll do mine tomorrow. Enjoy!
@galadrieljones:
So first off, this episode begins with some extreme psychological disorientation re: the exaggerated crane shots that sort of spin around over the woods and then zero in on Dali and Eric climbing a steep hill. I saw this as them sort of clawing their way out of hell, in a way, and I knew immediately that things were not going to be as they seemed, once again.
Tumblr media
That brings me the names. This was very interesting to me!! Idalia is actually of Italian origin, meaning “of the sun.” Further, the nickname “Dali” conjures the Spanish surrealist painter Salvador Dali, who painted “The Persistence of Memory,” or the painting with the melted clocks, inspired by the theory of relativity. I think the allusion to the Surreal here is purposeful.
Tumblr media
The melting clocks, too, are so loaded for me, in terms of all the ways tptb likes to use clocks, and to mess with time.
There are a couple instances of blatant Find Me callbacks—notably the isolated cabin in the woods, the screened in porch, and this painting of a fall landscape with a river running through it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(I had to brighten up the shot of the painting considerably. But I do see a distinct river.)
When you were writing about the non-linear storytelling of Davon, @twdmusicboxmystery, I was thinking about Find Me and how it’s also told out of order. I thought of the railroad spikes and how they’re also out of order (we see three and then two). Something is going on here. They’re teaching us to appreciate stories being told out of order, via flashback, and also through goggles of extreme disorientation, memory loss, repressed emotions, and psychological trauma. Do with that info what you will. This episode informs Find Me. Ann I also agree it reminds me of “Ghosts.” It somewhat reminds me of “On the Inside,” thought the twist in “On the Inside” is that all of it was actually real. Everything in “La Dona” is a delusion.
In terms of the timeline, I can't prove it, but I get the sense this is happening relatively soon after the turn. Like within a year maybe. They were with a community and things went bad. The dialogue in the end is vague but it sounds and seems like something went bad with the woman named Maria, that Dali killed her, and the other ppl in the community were asking questions, so Eric killed them. We see him killing humans in his flashbacks just before he “sees” Maria “alive” outside the gate.
In terms of characterization: The roles of the characters are deceiving. Both seem like the antagonist at some point. At first, it seems like Eric is unhinged and indifferent to human life, but later it seems like Dali has somehow deceived him into killing for her, that she has some sort of control over him.
Tumblr media
Eric really reminds me of Chris from Fear. He even looks like Chris. Chris wrestles with indifference, Darwinian thinking, and he has a very hard time coping with the fact that his dad “killed” his mom (who was bitten). This causes him to overcompensate as a “protector.” He kills Reed, a member of the hostile pirate group who tries to commandeer the Abigail, and after that, everyone starts to view him differently, and he’s never the same. He slowly starts creeping everyone out, esp Alicia. At Celia’s compound she’s convinced he’s going to kill her, and it’s all based on a huge misunderstanding. Eventually, Chris, who is super confused and struggling to cope with the realities of the new world, begins to think that nobody trusts him, and in this, becomes a person no one can trust. He eventually gets himself killed when he falls in with a rough crowd who, after he is terribly injured in a car crash, execute him. Chris is a cautionary tale. He’s the bizarro Carl. He’s Carl after the prison if Rick had not had Hershel as a mentor. A lot about this episode feels cautionary, or as usual, inverted.
Eric also seems like a kind of alternate version of Daryl, like a younger version of Daryl, if Daryl were more confident and sure of himself. Or maybe if Daryl were who he is in "Alone," but all the time, and with awareness of how charming he actually is. Eric is handsome and aloof. A classic bad boy. This is affirmed by the parrot: “Hola, guapo," ie: "Hello, handsome." One of his outfits later in the episode even reminds me of Daryl's outfit in Alone: Black jacket over tan/neutral shirt. I personally thought the actor was super hot, too. Lol. But that's just my opinion.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Dali is a less obvious character to me. She’s not a clear Beth proxy, just as Eric isn’t a clear Daryl proxy. Eric is the one who wants to “live” and not just survive, but Dali has a spiritual connection to this place and seems to be in touch with the powerfully feminine “witch” forces at work in the house. There are subtle implications that she herself may be a bruja or have some connection to Alma, or like she has some sort of “powers” that she doesn’t understand. I think it’s just illusion. I don’t think there are actual paranormal things happening in the episode. It’s psychological horror, like that old story “The Yellow Wallpaper.” She has “witch” energy. It’s unclear what her role was in the events from before La Dona. She blames Eric for something really bad that happened, but he says they did it “together.” How much is she controlling him vs. how much is he controlling her? It’s unclear.
I don’t know if perhaps Eric and Dali are being drugged. They do eat the soup, and they do drink the water. Toward the end, Eric comments that the water tastes bad. There’s a whole to-do in the beginning, too, about how the water “works.”
Tumblr media
This would bring us back to "What We Become" and the possibility that Daryl may have been drugged or drinking too much alcohol during Find Me. All the mushroom symbolism, Carol dosing the caffeine pills in "Ghosts," etc.
Okay, so as an “Alone” replay, or more if an “Alone”-gone-wrong situation: Things really crystallized for me when Eric basically proposes to Dali, asking her to “settle down” with him in “this sick ass house.” The sick-ass house reminded me of the suck-ass camp, as well as Alone as a marriage allegory. In Alone, Beth and Daryl come upon an undertakers residence and a funeral home. It’s been lived in, but the owner isn’t there. They eat some of his food, but leave some, too. Daryl proposes that if he comes back, they just “make it work.” In La Dona, Dali leads them to a bruja’s house. How she knows about this place is questionable and has something to do with Maria, the walker who is following them. Inside, Alma offers them food but no more. When Eric shows he’s unwilling to “make it work,” she “dies,” seeming to “curse” them. The house is filled with ominous, Catholic iconography, some of which seems to be alive with malice. The funeral home, on the other hand, is a genial, warm place. It feels physically and spiritually clean, with the funeral room uplifting and full of music. Even as the home is situated in a cemetery, it doesn’t feel haunted at all, or, like I said, Beth and Daryl are “new haunts.”
Toward the end of La Dona, there are framed photos of Eric and Dali lying in bed, but it looks like they’re lying in coffins. In Alone, Daryl lies in a coffin and refers to it as a bed.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now this is the one where I like laughed out loud as I was nursing my baby. When Eric names the bird Paco, he says he's naming it after his sister's dog. I said to myself, this better not be a one-eyed dog. And then...it was lol. Yet another moment where I felt tptb were talking directly to us. Eric calls the bird Paco, after his sister’s one-eyed pug. The one-eyed disposition of the dog along with the parrot actually meet, too, via the pirate theme. The parrot is a proxy for the one-eyed dog. Both also provide warnings to the characters.
Another interesting Alone parallel happens when Dali is slashing at imaginary walkers in the heavy fog. This is an allusion to the other half of Alone, when Maggie, Sasha, and Bob fight off a bunch of actual walkers in very heavy fog.
Tumblr media
In Alone, I always took that as a metaphor. There are many hidden dangers in this episode. Beware. Ofc in "La Dona," the dangers aren't merely hidden. They're imagined.
On a simpler note: The Bruja as a figure of Mexican folklore fits with the Chupacabra as well as La Lechuza, from Fear. I haven't worked this one out yet. There is a lot of crossover with the Native American imagery in this episode, like when Alma's voice can be heard whispering "Get off my land," or something to that effect.
Um, so...the Jesus frogs. That was crazy? Idk what to make of that. Does anyone have any ideas on what the heck was going on with those hopping Jesuses?? They DID look like frogs, and frogs are a thing, ofc. "Go Tell it to the Frogs" and "Them" both have big frog themes. Frogs are a Biblical plague, etc. Maybe it's that simple. Idk. But it was crazy and I was not expecting that!! Also, Ann, I thought of you fondly when the peacock feathers in the wallpaper started blinking like creepy eyes.
Here's something else I wasn't sure of. Eric seems to have two dots tattooed (?) under his right eye. I thought they were maybe just freckles but the actor Danny Ramirez doesn’t have freckles there, so that’s a choice.
Tumblr media
My final note is on folie a deaux.
Tumblr media
This is very interesting to me. It's the type of disorder that Gina thinks she and Blair are sharing in Blair/Gina. It's a kind of shared psychosis between two people, or MORE. If you read the above snippet you'll see folie a deaux can be shared across many people, and the delusions are usually brought on by an "anchor," or one person who originates and "spreads" their psychosis to others. It's a real phenomenon.
This episode seems like a strong play on folie a deaux, or a shared delusion, except neither one of them is sure who the anchor is. Eric says, “You’re the one seeing things. Don’t start planting seeds in my head," which makes it seem like it's Dali who's the anchor; however, Eric is having his own brand of hallucinations, tied mainly to the bird. In the end, it doesn't really matter, as they imagine they are being sucked into an abyss of walkers and sucking vines, but the truth is, they are actually stabbing each other to death.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
With the episode aligning so closely to Alone, I am now wondering how the folie a deaux works into the Alone template. I’m still thinking about it. I really don't know. But I think it could also be tied to "Coda." We've talked so much about how Coda is from Rick's clearly skewed point of view, and how in the episode, he seems genuinely out of his mind...
Anyway, that's all. Sorry for the length. I found this episode to be truly fascinating. Interested in any/all thoughts and additions!!
@twdmusicboxmystery:
This is wonderful! Thanks so much for posting it. And honestly, other than some of the clues you mentioned, I wasn’t sure exactly how to interpret it. I kind of wanted to do with this episode what I did last week with Davon (watch it like 4 times, lol). It was only after watching it several times that it really came clear to me. But I haven’t returned to La Dona yet.
I do have some of the things you said (and laughed at) in my notes. Like when Eric said he wanted to stay (I thought of Daryl wanting to settle down as well) and I picked up the one-eyed dog reference. Definitely felt like a twisted version of Alone to me. But a lot of these other things, I missed. I’ll try and watch it again later tonight, but you’ve given us a good direction for interpretation here.
I love the fog pointing to the Maggie/Sasha/Bob side of Alone. The foile a deux reference is super compelling. I hadn’t thought to connect that, but no way Blair and Gina randomly mentioning is and a few episodes later we have a couple with a shared delusion, is a coincidence.
Actually, I love that because it shows they were using one episode to foreshadow another, seemingly irrelevant episode.
Tumblr media
I’m not sure what to make of the Jesus frogs, either. You could see it as a really twisted resurrection symbol, I suppose. And she definitely rejects them. I’ll think about it more as I rewatch.
I’m also thinking about what you said about Maria. Even though she’s not a “main” character in the episode, I kind of think she might be pivotal to the interpretation. Not sure why yet.
@wdway:
Great job of explaining this episode. I needed this. You guys are so much better at this type of thing than I am. I've only watched it once but I think I'll wait till after I read @twdmusicboxmystery’s notes and then watch it again and have a much better understanding of what tptb wants us to grasp from it.
@galadrieljones:
I’m glad my notes resonated!! When Alma’s voice says to Dali “This is my land,” that just reminded me of that weird thing Leah says in Find Me. She asks Daryl what he’s doing out here on “[her] land.” Is Leah a “witch?” What does she mean by that? Alma has walls. Leah just has a cabin? What “land” is she referring to?
Tumblr media
I know we’ve talked about her as Hecate/Huldra, like a keeper of the dead. Wondering if this isn’t a more pointed way of making that same argument. And then there’s Trail of Tears stuff, the Chupacabra, both Daryl symbols. Idk where I’m going w this, but I feel this ep has a lot to do with both Find Me and Alone.

“The controversial modern art” - an opinion
While roaming on YouTube in the spring of my free time, I stumbled upon a video from Business Insider. An episode of beloved series “So expensive”, titled “Why Modern Art Is So Expensive”. Allured by an intriguing painting showed in the thumbnail, I decided to spare it a few minutes of my attention. I didn’t expect, at all to become so angry, sad and frustrated. Not at the contents of the video, but at the comments pinned below.      Video had 5.2 mln views, and that one comment had 43K likes. The most liked comment. “I feel bad for all the artists with actual skills and creativity being unnoticed out there”. “The moment you realize that every preschool toddler is an artist with work that can sell for potential millions”. People were hating on the whole genre of art, saying it's not showing a skill, they don't feel anything. It's a waste of someone else's potential, that actual skilled people are doing something else. Said that this art is not beauty (and doesn’t have to be), just money, only made for business (which ofc happens) and thousands of people liked those thickhead comments.      It made me so mad and annoyed. I disagree to believe that it’s thousands of artistically informed people who know their taste. That it’s not because of one eccentric painting they didn't fancy. I don't want to make myself think that. Can't lie to myself that they are not people who, challenged by a Gottlieb painting, declared they hate or not understand modern art.     Modern art branches into impressionism, expressionism, surrealism, abstract art, cubism and many more. Modern art is Van Gogh, Picasso, Salvador Dali, Matisse, Le Corbusier. And “a more demanding for an average consumer, Pollock”, too. It is meant to make an impression, extract a certain set of emotion from the watcher, with putting an emphasis on individual perceptions. This is why modern art is subjective. So many of artists, so different in expression, with artwork so drastically various. With it's many styles, rearranged by hundreds of individuals that create a category of modern art. All passes by, ignored and spit on by a bunch of lazy humans. They make comments about a skill, but ignore the context of the style, history, message, the progression of change an artist went through, the composition, colors, contrasts... So many things, feelings, contents, nuances go by unnoticed after being dumped into a category of “I can’t feel it”. The lack of will to learn, makes a person not have an access to a whole branch of human expression, and that mindset doesn't make space for them to realize that that makes their lives indigent.      People who appreciate art as only worthy, when it’s made with a certain skill to create realistic artwork. In a form of mastery, with pretty, detailed portraits and biblical scenes and other magnificent pieces. It's okay to prefer that, it's great to know this makes you feel the experience, but it's ignorant to say you hate or prefer something when you didn’t ever try to gather the tools to understand the different experience, and you have too little information to make a competent comparison.     I disagree with blind, ignorant denying of a whole spectrum of tools for expressing emotions. I classify style as a form of communication, exactly the same as books are. Because styles in arts are like genres of books. You can't dislike one subgenre, (like vampire-werewolf romance), and declare you don't understand all of the genre (romance). That will make you miss out on “Pride and Prejudice”. Or “Gone With The Wind”. Or “The Notebook”. You block yourself against a wonderful world of art, filled with different sensitivities, various creators. As paintings are like books. And in this artistic modern world, for sure you would find something for yourself. But after being challenged, you resign. That's a lazy habit we are all guilty of, sometimes.     So don’t be an old sponge. Have some mind capability, go read and check, look around, before making an opinion on a non-explored subject. Don’t be a sheep and stay curious. Bitch.
Thank you very much for this opportunity to speak, take something for yourself. btw. Modern art is only a controversial topic because it's misunderstood by a mass of laymen who decided to speak out unasked and uninformed. But, if they want to learn - it’s the best they speak out. Then they shall be informed. Let that sink in. :)

August 26th 2022
I am writing this for the love of writing. It’s a passion that proceeds from the welling of my heart. The heart is a flower of music. It’s an orchard of poetry. Feelings run like a river in my soul. I am feeling so contented and happy. What must I write, I know not! I imagine my body to be pen, a narcissistic blush. I am very much happy with my fictional self. It is a self of the women I have loved, the poems that I have written, and the cigarettes that I have smoked, the philosophers that I have loved. Yes I would like to transcend all what I have read and epitomize it into an art. Beauty is the soul of love. It is a forest of blossoms. It’s a soul of rhythm. A writer has to defy death. Words have to flow like an ocean. Desires become the tapestry of art. Yes, I have done poetry with her, poetry of songs and rhythms, and a soul of beauty. Beauty to me is a passionate flower. Sometimes my writing is Kafkaesque. Like Kafka I have had a dominating father. Why do I think that I have to accomplish great things as writer? I am not egoistic. I write for the love of writing. Writing is a song of the body. Yes, Nietzsche’s theory of art is so poignant to me. My pen has the harmony of Apollo and the rhythms and beats of Dionysus. My pen is an aesthetic phallus. Yes, the meaning in life is to become a perfect art. Writing is the tapestry to overcome the nihilism of death and suicide. Camus and Sartre were right, we have to authenticate our existence.  We have to become the muse of inspiration. Beauty, you are my lover and companion. Time flows with the rhythm of streams of consciousness. Joyce lived the life of streams of consciousness. Yes, I am closer to Joyce and Wolf. Yes, I am a Ms. Dalloway of consciousness. Yes, why am I writing, I wonder why? I keep asking the question again and again. Writing is muse-music of a work-out. Yes, I long to do poetry with her. Yes, I long to feel the bed of ecstasy. Another one of my favorite authors is Maurice Blanchot a French novelist and philosopher. Yes through writing one has to become a death of defying death. One has to reincarnate with a life of a muse. Writing has to defy the self. It’s grandiose to live the life of a fictional self. Writing is a therapy of existentialism. The Philosopher Sartre has said: ‘man is condemned to be free as he is responsible for the choices he makes’. Yes, responsibility is monster beast of hell. Responsibility is an awesome shmuck. Yes, I live life as a poetic soul. Beauty is congruous with harmony. Writing accomplishes the dream of the body. Writing is a futuristic opera. Yes, I love the beatniks and the ways in which they have lived their life, experiencing life with drugs, alcohol and permissiveness. Ginsberg’s howl is an allegory of cathartic Buddhism. How can we describe the minuteness of life?  I love reading Van Gogh’s letters written to his brother. It is ironic that in his life time he was able to sell only a few of his paintings. But today, he is acclaimed as a famous painter.  It’s wonder to me why he cut his ear for the sake of a prostitute? Yes, I love to watch Van Gogh’s Sower. Van Gog’s painting sower shows a man casting seeds on to a yellowish field.  The Sower can be taken as an allegory of the Messiah Jesus and the seeds his Words. I also like Van Gogh’s Sunflower. The Still Life is a vista of visual poetry. Yes, I also love Salvador Dali very much and his painting: the persistence of memory. The frozen embryo and the melting clocks reflect the inner time of living moments and it also show the mystery of space and time. It could also be a reflection of narcissism of an oedipal conflict. Yes, words are beautiful reflections of poetry. Yes, with words, I melt into a becoming of nothingness. Again I ask why I should write. Writing is an art of poetry and the prose of rhythm. To fall in love with oneself is an aesthetic scandal. Yes, I’m falling in love with the orgy of writing. Writing is actualizing dreams into reality. Writing is a narcissistic mania. Writing is the muse of the pen. I want to live the life of a bard. I want to make love to the paper with my pen.

A Strange Life: Chapter 2
Chapter 2
Déjà vu
I glanced around the room; my eyes wide. What the fuck just happened? I—I was in the bathroom, Cinder shot Yang! But... my eyes went immediately to Cinder, who was quietly listening to Professor Taurus droning on about Alfred Hitchcock. But she’s right here. And I just heard this lecture!
The clatter of a pen on the ground drew my eyes to Velvet, who bent down to pick it up and brushed her hair out of her eyes. I turned toward Mercury in time to see him throw a wadded-up ball of paper at Penny, who flinched as it bounced off her head. Penny’s being harassed again. If Cinder’s phone vibrates? This is real.
He continued to lecture the class, not a word changing from before. “Now, can you give me an example of a photographer who perfectly captured the human condition in black and white?” As before, no one responded and with a roll of his eyes he said “Anyone? Bueller?”
Cinder’s phone vibrated on cue. I jerked back despite expecting it, my hand smacking into my camera and it fell to the ground with a cracking noise that had my clench my fist. I looked down to see glass scattered on the ground around the camera. No! I broke... okay, Blake. Let’s think. You were in the bathroom. Yang got shot. And now you’re back in the classroom... did I actually travel through time? How can I do it again?
As before, Cinder ended Professor Taurus’s growing annoyance by raising her hand and saying “Diane Arbus.”
I focused and raised my left hand, feeling something flowing as tension grew between my temples. The room slowed and stopped before things started to move backward in time, quicker and quicker, until finally my camera shuddered and jumped to return to my desk. My gaze went from the camera and to my hand and back, and I turned it over to look at the lens. It was intact. Nothing seemed wrong.
Cinder and Professor Taurus were talking about Diane Arbus once more and dark corners as my mind raced. Either I was going mad, or I’d just become a human time machine. And that meant... I glanced back at Cinder who was now commenting on Robert Frank. It meant she had a gun. But I could still save Yang. But how?
My first thought was to just intercept Yang before she went into the bathroom, but what if I missed her? And why would she want to talk to me? I’d abandoned her for five years. My heart clenched, remembering Yang falling to the ground, her tank-top staining red with blood. No. I had to be in the bathroom. And I had to remain in hiding. Hell, I’d have to replicate everything I did before, any small change could disrupt things.
Okay. First thing’s first. I waited until he was once more talking about Salvadore Dali and self-portraits and again pointed my camera at my face, taking another photo. It clicked and whirred properly and my heart unclenched. Part of me had been worried that, time travel aside, it would still be broken.
Professor Taurus paused his lecture to stare at me and again shushed everyone. “I believe Blake has taken what you kids call a ‘selfie’... an idiotic term for a wonderful photographic tradition. And Blake... has a gift,” he said, and I let my thoughts drift again. Okay. My camera broke, but I fixed it. Obviously, I can change the future. So, I can save Yang. I just need to get to the bathroom to prepare . He made his “selfie-expression” comment and again I managed to avoid rolling my eyes. “Now Blake, since you’ve captured our interest and obviously want to join in, please tell us the name of the process that resulted in the first self-portraits?”
Keep to what you did before, no matter how tempting it is to steal Cinder’s limelight! “I— um...” What did I say last time? I blew the answer...
My indecision was good enough to set him off. “You either know this or not, Blake. Is there anyone here who has bothered with reading the texts?”
Cinder gleefully responded with “Louis Daguerre was a French painter who created ‘daguerreotypes,’ the process that resulted in portraits with a sharp, reflective style, much like a mirror.” She turned toward me and sneered. “I’m surprised you didn’t know; you are stuck in the last century after all.”
Yeah, sneer at me all you want. I’m not letting you kill Yang! I ignored Mercury’s laughter while Professor Taurus returned to lecturing us. “Good, Cinder. The Daguerreian Process showed fine detail in people’s faces, which made them quite popular from the 1800s and forward. Robert Cornelius did the first American daguerreotype self-portrait. You can read more about him...” the bell rang and his voice petered out as the bell rang and everyone grabbed their books. “In your textbook. Or even... online. Don’t forget to submit your photos for the ‘Everyday Heroes’ contest by Monday morning at the latest. I’ll fly out with the winner to San Francisco where you’ll be feted by the art world. It’s great exposure and can kickstart a photography career. So, Velvet, Pyrrha? Get it together. Mercury, I’m waiting for your entry too. And yes, Blake, I see you pretending to not see me.”
Once more Cinder walked over to talk to Professor Taurus while I quickly gathered my things. A quick glance at how miserable Penny looked and I took a moment to talk to her. “Hey. Are you okay?”
“I am just thinking too much.” She paused and then looked at me. “How about you? Is something the matter?”
I blinked. This was different from before. “Um.. Sorry. I’m just stressed.”
Penny nodded, looking sympathetic. “I know the feeling.”
“I wish we didn’t I have to get going, but we can talk later if you want?”
Penny smiled hesitantly. “I will see how I feel. Thank you, Blake.”
Once more I headed toward the door hoping Cinder would distract Professor Taurus, but his gaze was too sharp. “I see you, Blake Belladonna. Don’t even think about leaving before we talk about your entry. I’d never let a future star of photography avoid handing in her picture.”
“I didn’t want to interrupt Cinder. Besides, I don’t have a photo.”
He rolled his eyes, but fortunately this time didn’t approach close enough to loom over me. “Given the number of selfies you’ve taken, you have to have a thousand pictures by now. Why not follow my suggestion on how to incorporate your old works into this one? I’m sure you have it in you.”
“But... the photo is about heroes , sir. I’m... no hero. And my best works are nature photographs, which isn’t in theme for the contest.” Cinder was looking increasingly impatient and I gave him a pleading look. “I have to get going, can we talk later?”
“Blake, don’t wait too long. John Lennon once said that ‘Life is what happens while you’re busy making plans.' Go on now, don’t let me stop you. But I’ll expect your photograph on my desk Sunday afternoon at the latest.”
I took advantage of his dismissal to hurry out the door. He’d be brushing off Cinder soon and I needed to get to the bathroom before it was too late. I rushed past Pyrrha and Jaune with Pyrrha calling him a dork, while Cardin was trying to shake down Ren for money. Ozpin was even out mopping a spill near the main office. But none of them could help me. None of them would believe me. I fled into the bathroom and toward my destiny....

Last night I dreamt that I saw my aunt and uncle who passed away and also my one childhood friend who died. I had previous dreams where I said goodbye to each one of them and watched them cross over into the after life. But last night's dream has me confused from seeing each of them again.
Why did you come to see me? And how did you come to see me?
I've had very surreal dreams that remind me of Salvador Dali's paintings. Very open and expensive settings but then small areas that have a lot of detail but also aren't what they appear the longer you look at them as they morph and change. The more you try to define what you see the more it changes making you never certain of what it is your looking at.
I think about death almost every night. I have a reaper tattoo on my shoulder because I do feel that I have an odd connection to the dead from how many times people have passed away have come to me in dreams and said their goodbyes. It often feels like I'm some kind of gatekeeper to the dead who they have to visit to be able to crossover. Feeling like the grim reaper who I believe doesn't have eyes from having spent an eternity weeping as he watches the dead passover.
But I continue to question the afterlife. What is the surreal painting that I saw in my dreams in the distance when I found my aunt and uncle sitting together, waiting for me to say goodbye? And is that painting a place where they reside but also a place where we can still feel and be with them? Are dreams the gateway between the living and the dead? A place where the ones we loved can give us their spiritual presence after death has robbed us of their physical one?

"The Game Begins with an Idea" The Art of Game Design, 2nd Edition Chapter 6 Written by Jesse Schell Published by A K Peters/CRC Press In Chapter 6, the author discusses the ideas and inspirations for designing games, as well as how to solve the problems that arise in game design. They summarize the perspectives of brainstorming techniques and subconscious techniques. I want to analyze from these perspectives.
Firstly, for inspiration, the author narrates through a small story to express their true thoughts. The author believes that inspiration does not come from imitation but from exploration and discovery. Finding one's own interests and integrating knowledge can stimulate one's own inspiration and change creativity.
The second is to solve problems. There are many problems with game design ideas before implementation, and good questions can not only explain the goals but also the limitations of the game. Therefore, I also raised questions based on my own game design goals. How to create a mobile game that Chinese people enjoy playing? How can most Chinese and other foreigners have a better gaming experience? List the advantages based on the questions. Firstly, for Chinese people, the design style and concept of the game should be more inclined towards Chinese culture and narrative, to attract Chinese players. Secondly, advanced technology can improve the quality of games and increase their smoothness. That is to say, the four elements mentioned by the author: are technology, mechanism, story, and aesthetics. Based on the knowledge learned before, designing a game also requires analysis from various perspectives: what kind of narrative? What direction of strategy? Can there be transmedia and intertextuality? What are the emotions and personalities of the characters in the game plot? What is the overall representation form of the gaming environment? Is there a cultural or racial conflict in the background of the story? And can future games develop into VR gaming products? As a game designer, this is something I should consider.
The author discusses the importance of sleep, and as a game designer, my work and social experiences agree with the author's viewpoint. "Sleep is crucial to the process of idea generation - a good designer uses the menu power of sleep to its maximum advantage" The author also cited Salvador Dali's work as an example to prove this. It has been proven that short-term sleep can indeed improve memory and stimulate inspiration. ".The answer comes clear only when you consider where your ideas come from." The human subconscious will gradually emerge.
The author later mentioned the creative subconscious and imagined it as a virtual image. This image is a Can't Talk, Impulsive, Emotional, Playful, and Illusionary. I think it's possible to imagine such an image, but its practicality is not high. This subconscious needs to be experienced by people themselves to truly feel it. Afterward, the author puts forward several subconscious viewpoints: 1. Pay Attention. Listen to its habits and thank it. My understanding is to consider one's own thoughts, feelings, and ideals more, and not be heavily influenced by the thoughts of others. 2. Record Your Ideas. During brainstorming, people may generate a lot of ideas, but sometimes they may flash by. The best way is to record them, so that your mind becomes more rational and generates a framework, and all the content is stored intact in your brain. The author proposed a tool called a "tape recorder" that can quickly be memorized and be organized again after the meeting. 3. Manage Its Appetites (Judiciously). The ancient Chinese said that food was the paramount necessity of the people. Although eating is important and requires nutritional supplementation, wise management of diet is also crucial. Maslow's hierarchy is a pretty good guide here - if you don't have food, safety, and healthy personal relationships, it will be hard to do self-actualizing creative work I completely agree with this point. During my work and study, I often have my creative inspiration and thoughts affected by family or other trivial matters. 4. Sleep. As mentioned earlier, sleep is a process that can better categorize and reorganize the brain's thoughts. 5. Don't Push Too Hard I have to say that I have personally experienced this, just like the author. Sometimes I think of a person's name and am very familiar with them, but I just can't remember it? When you let go of this thing and do something else, the answer suddenly comes to your mind. I also think it's amazing. In fact, the subconscious of the brain is still working, it has found the answer and passed it on to you. So don't be overly nervous about doing something, slow down the process, clarify the importance of the problem, and let your subconscious help you complete the work. The answer may come quickly or slowly.
In addition, the author brainstormed based on the questions raised by their subconscious and summarized some techniques:
1. The Write Answer. My understanding is that it is somewhat similar to the technique of the subconscious. The difference is that one is to record ideas, while the other is to write answers. Both can improve one's memory ability, and the latter is a summary of one's own ideas. 2. Write or Type? The author points out the methods and methods of recording, and everyone has different memory techniques, such as writing, sketching, typing, annotation, and so on. Choose the one that best suits you. 3. Sketches. I think the author may prefer to use sketches to express ideas, as he finds it easier to remember his own ideas. 4. The Toy. author believes that placing toys can stimulate the creativity of designers both visually and tactilely. I think this technique is only effective for some designers, and for me, placing toys may not have any other ideas, perhaps because the appearance of toys limits my imagination. 5. Change Your Perspective. Changing Thinking about games from different perspectives will yield different rewards. 6. Immerse Yourself. To gain a deeper understanding of the game content or storyline you want to play, you need to experience and enjoy similar environments from real life. 7. Crack Jokes. I think there are similar sleep methods, both aimed at relaxing the mind and completing work happily. 8. Spare No Expense. the author believes that developing a game requires a significant amount of cost, and does not limit your ideas and creativity due to the price of technology or poor materials. 9. The Writing on the Wall. The author believes that writing and sketching on a whiteboard during work can record the thoughts of all team members, and even after many years, opening it can still bring back beautiful memories. 10. The Space Remembers. The author refers to the book The Art of Innovation by Tom Kelley and proposes to convert their ideas into spatial memory, as people's ability to remember lists is less than their ability to remember spatial positions. The method is to write down your different ideas on paper and paste them in different rooms around you, which can make it easier to remember the content. I agree with this, but the method is too impractical. If I have a lot of ideas, should I buy and rent more rooms? 11. Write Everything. The author believes that what people hear and see can generate ideas and creativity in the brain, but it quickly flashes by. The method is to write it down, don't hesitate! This is difficult for ordinary people to achieve, and I think the author thinks it's just a brainstorming technique. 12. Number your list.13. Mix and Match Categories. I have to admit that this is a very good habit. People who do things like this are generally rational and do not blindly do things. 14. Talk To Yourself. I have to admit that I am a person who talks to myself. My parents say I am foolish and I feel like I can't let go of things and really want to speak up. In fact, the author believes that speaking out loud is more authentic than thinking in the mind. I admit it's foolish, but it does work. 15. Find a Partner. The author believes that brainstorming with multiple people has both advantages and disadvantages. Exchanging ideas can lead to better solutions at work, but some people are good partners and others are not. Bad partners will lower your efficiency. The author believes that a group of no more than 4 people is the best, as it allows each person to unleash their creativity without taking up a lot of time and allowing for better decision-making. I think the author has indeed provided us with many methods, and based on these methods, game designers can generate many ideas. However, truly selecting ideas and ideas that are useful to oneself requires a lot of experimentation and accumulation. I also believe that these ideas enable game designers to create high-quality, highly creative games.

New recording 57–”Random” Jan 6 2017
Um......
Hmmm.
So did my spell on new years ever work?
(Ok….so this all started because I was told by “Random” on New Years Eve day that Blond had been doing spells on us, and that I needed to do something to make them stop. So this technically was the first time I ever touched magick, other than following the Tarot Reader’s instructions of keeping candles for the Baby, or the communication candle she had me burn in the hotel. But I had never done a spell before. I think I went to Enchantments and bought a cauldron. Fake Random led me straight into the spell; told me what to google, etc. )
yes.
Strongly worked.
That’s good. I was scared.
I know how to mop the house now. Which i should do once a week, ...probably.....would be a good idea. Think i’ll stick to that. Which means i need to do it tomorrow.
So...has Blond calmed down?
Does she still have the darkness in her?
No.
So this thing about me and katie and the picture...you knew it the whole time.
And it’s true.
And it’s why Katie and I are so connected. Has there been anyone else....has there been anyone else who has been reborn...who has been nusch eluard, or sonia mosse?
So is there anyone elsr who has been born that has been paul eluard besides jakk?
And Blond is picasso?
And has there been anyone else who is picasso besides blond?
Is anyone else in the world picasso, besides chloe?
There are other people?
Why is that?
Because picasso....was a great..
So there are certain people....what about brenda? Because brenda was lee miller, right? Was anyone else lee miller?
Was anyone else salvador dali besides chris?
But i was the only one who was sonia mosse. And katie was the only one who was nusch eluard. And jakk was the only one who was paul eluard.
......
Did hearing this give blond....number one, when Blond heard this...did it give her...some peace?
And some understanding why she had all this energy towards me?
....
Was their divorce finalized yesterday?
...
So Nusch, Jakk and I are a thing.
And is...is Blond going to be able to have some peace now.
(a long pause)
Was she really touched when she heard that? How paul had given her this great love?
Had offered up...his wife? So that she (Picasso) could have creative expression again? (what i remember about the story was Picasso was lacking inspiration, and Paul Eluard let him have a sexual affair with his wife because she was one of the major muses of the Surrealism set. It’s true that Dali & Picasso both used Nusch in their work. )
(Looking on her phone)
It gets more and more tragic
And it’s true that when Nusch and Sonia were separated.....Sonia was captured for being Jewish.
And taken to..um, a nazi gassing chamber. And that’s where she put the plastic bag over her head, and wrote the note “find me find me find me find me”.
(Point of reference: one of the first pieces of writing I ever sent Jakk was a prose piece I wrote that was sort of about being stuck between worlds, two people trying to meet, recognizing each other’s souls as having met before, and flying through a portal, though I didn’t know it was called a portal back then. And the last thing the girl says as she’s flying through the air is “find me find me find me find me find me, you’ll be me and I’ll be you and then everything stopped.” When fake katie told me what Sonia’s suicide note said, I lost my marbles. It cemented the possibility that she truly was a past life to me.
But really the mindfuckery was just beginning.)
Tumblr media
Did she really write that note?
Random is that even possible? Like how is that possible?
Are you guys just pulling my leg now?
But she did put a plastic bag over her head. She did die of suffocation.
...........
And she did leave that note?
........
What about Breton?
What about ManRay?
But Jakk was the only.....Paul.
Random, how is it possible? You swear she wrote that note.
(End of tape)
New recording 58 1/6/17
....and she died in Poland.
And she commited suicide?
Did she commit suicide because... they were going to kill her.
Would she have committed suicide......anyways?
No.
She only committed suicide because she was captured as a Jew.
So when.....so when Nusch went away to Velazy, ........Sonia was stricken with grief. But she put all her energy into fighting for the Resistance. And they wrote letters back and forth. Because that was basically where they fell in love.
Is Jakk gonna.....(the work phone rings) Don’t answer that?
(It’s worth noting that a dependency had already been set up. I usually assumed I was speaking with my spirit niece…but by December anytime a work call came through, she said it was one of Blond’s boys sent to get me arrested. So by this time, when the phone rang, I would just check in with her, and 90% of the time, I would be told it was danger. And that’s when she started insisting I needed to go to CT to get away from Blond’s influence…which was when they did the rabbit ritual in my apartment..along with marking it with blood in various places, and setting up the surveillance. It wasn’t until the fall of 2017 that I realized none of those conversations had been Katie at all.)
Is Jakk going to want to know this?
Did....did Sonia write a note....the suicide note that she got to Nusch......hold on.
Hi, who’s this?
You just called me?
I’m sorry?
I’m already occupied. I’m busy.
Did.....did......did sonia write the note for nusch before she was taken away? Before the police took her away.
She gave it to a friend of theirs in the Resistance? With Nusch’s......and the last...and it had Nusch’s address on it because she knew it. And that was the last letter Nusch got, right? .............
That was the last letter. And it said find me/cherche-moi, cherche-moi, cherche-moi. Right? So...so Nusch’s idea in going to Velazy....she said to Sonia, “look we’ll work it out...”
She still had hopes that Paul & Sonia could get along.
(typing) “Got another piece last night. “
Nusch knew that she and Sonia were forever, but that Paul had his work. That’s why she said that she.....Sonia needed her. She was leaving him. Sonia was...”
Was Sonia......sonia had...”sonia was an amazing female artist, and they both incredibly passionate. “
Carcassonne. Sonia.....Sonia and Nusch... (End tape)

Week 12 - Compulsory Question 2
Social engagement & Traditional / Lineages
Revisiting my artistic vision statement, not much has changed. I still share the same aspirations that I did when I wrote this, however, I have come to some realizations on how I will actually make my dreams happen.
There is so much more to being a good student than just doing your assignments well and submitting them on time. Being an art student in particular means that we have to be regularly inspired and immerse ourselves in the world if art. One of my biggest fears is working a big time corporate job, but churning out work that I am not satisfied with. To tackle this problem, I plan to regularly attend art exhibitions and pop-ups, workshops, conferences, as well as read literary works on a wide-variety of styles and media in order to make me able to create works with a variety of style, as well as stay inspired. Furthermore, a common problem that many art students face is art blocks, or burnouts, that mainly result from overworking (McNab, 2023). I hope to be able to prevent this from happening by taking time to myself and allowing myself to relax every once in a while.
Socially engaged design can encompass various aspects, such as designing for accessibility, sustainability, cultural sensitivity, and community empowerment. It seeks to make a positive impact by addressing real-world challenges through thoughtful and purposeful design.
A design that exemplifies social engagement is the Chicken Coop and Herb Zone in a Taiwanese School. This work features a gently curving white fence that encloses a chicken enclosure, which is available for students and staff to observe. They even have some stations in which children can participate in activities such as measuring the chicken eggs. This work serves to integrate children with nature, both by being a mindful observer, but also partaking in the care of these chickens. The work helps children visualize the care of animals, as well as allowing them to be involved in it (Hafner, 2023).
One of my favorite designs, titled Fish Fantasia in Pastels, resonates deeply with me for many reasons. The first being the color scheme, focusing on soft colors, doesn't strain the observer's eyes, which I find tends to happen with a lot of maximalist art. Instead, it's soothing and relaxing, without being overwhelming. Furthermore, I like its minimalistic and surreal elements, which are reflective as to what my dreams are usually like. There is technically no such thing as a dotted sky, or a wave of fish, but those elements seem plausible in the realm of the unconscious. These also reflect on childhood imagination and how we used to imagine these kind of scenarios, such as waves of fish, kingdoms made of candies, and mythical creatures. The element of creativity is in the surrealism of the piece, while the critical thinking is the message I wanted to convey behind the work. Artistic traditions and lineages falls under how this surrealist art style was inspired by many other artists' famous works, such as The Fisherman's Wife's Dream, and The Persistence of Memory by Salvador Dali (Tate, 2022).
Recalling back the field trip from week 4 to the Singapore National Gallery, I saw the various artworks on display and got to enjoy so many of them. Chua Mia Tee's painting in particular, National Language Class, depicted a class of students learning Malay and plays on themes and messages of cultural identity and belonging, as well as assimilation. I was fascinated how so much could be said with so little words, and when I talked about that painting with some of my friends, I was delighted by how they each had their own unique interpretation of that work, further proving that art is subjective and to experience it is incredibly personal.
Wordcount: 430 words.

How Iconic Movie Monster “The Pale Man” Was CreatedBehind the Scenes of Guillermo del Toro’s Pan’s LabyrinthBy David MartíSeptember 21, 2022
With every character I’ve created with Guillermo del Toro, he’s never said, “Right, so, this is exactly what I want.”
He’ll come with an idea and usually some drawings, and from there, it’s up to you to develop the concept. It’s a process.
The earliest take on the Pale Man, from Pan’s Labyrinth (2006), was of a wooden man with drawers in his chest. Inside one of them is a dagger that Ofelia has to find, but if she opens the wrong drawer, there’s a thin, long, slimy tongue that licks her face.
Guillermo was like, “No, no, no. We need something else.”
Next, we came up with a fat, old man, sitting at the banquet table, who suddenly becomes very thin.
Again, Guillermo was like, “No, no, no. Let’s change it.”
He wanted the Pale Man to be stick-thin with hanging skin, and for reference he gave us that Salvador Dali painting of melting clocks.
But he’s like, “I still don’t like it . . . Remove his eyes.”
I was like, “Remove his eyes? What the hell? But OK.”
We removed his eyes. Then Guillermo tells us to remove his nose as well. I’m like, “How is he going to breathe?”
So Guillermo says, “Do a manta ray sort of thing.”
As a director, he’s the most creative person I’ve ever worked with. But as a producer, his first and only priority is the film itself.
So we did those little, round holes. And we were getting pretty close to what we ended up with in the movie. But then Guillermo’s like, “It’s not right. Let’s do this: When Ofelia eats the grape, he’ll transform. He’ll open his mouth, his lips will recede, the screaming skull of a horse will come out, and he’ll turn into a four-legged creature that chases her.”
We were in the middle of pre-production, we had no money left, and suddenly Guillermo came up with something that not only required a make-up, but also a mechanical thing, and then a puppet. I told him he’d have to find someone else to do it and he got mad at me.
The thing is, whenever I talk about Guillermo, I always say the same. As a friend, he’s the best you could ever have. As a director, he’s the most creative person I’ve ever worked with. But as a producer, his first and only priority is the film itself.
We took some time to cool down and met a while later in Madrid. Guillermo backed down from the screaming horse concept, but the make-up was still not quite there. As he has no eyes, I asked, “How is he going to find Ofelia?”
Guillermo said to me, “Close your eyes and try to find me.”
I thought maybe he’d slap my face, but OK, I closed my eyes. First, I felt around on the table on front of me, then I reached out as far as I could, with my hands wide open. Guillermo yells, “Stop there!”
And he comes up to me and draws eyes on my palms. I was like, “That makes no sense! He grabs the fairy with his eyes?”
But he says, “Stop thinking about practical stuff and think about magic.”
I was like, “You’re right! OK. Let’s do this.”
The first make-up test we did was with just the face and the hands. Guillermo said maybe we should add some tattoos or something, but I convinced him we didn’t need more detail. That the simpler the design, the better.
Tumblr media
So Doug Jones is sitting in the chair, playing with the make-up, trying things out. He holds his hands up to his face, like he’s staring at us, then he closes his hands, and opens them again, like he’s blinking. It was just the most amazing moment.
We painted his pointy fingers black, so they’d look like eyelashes. And finally, we agreed: we had our Pale Man!
He didn’t come from Guillermo’s mind, though, or mine. More, a mix of accidents, financial limitations and great ideas from many different artists. Plus Doug, of course, flapping his fingers!
And that’s how we somehow created what very quickly became an iconic movie monster.
