#i definitely don’t think they can fit everything in the manga

I’ve seen you post some labru stuff and I’m curious what your thoughts on it are. personally I don’t see it? I can buy Kabru having feelings for Laios, but I think Laios wouldn’t be interested in Kabru, so it makes me wonder why so many people ship them. (Tbh I feel like Kabru has more chemistry with Mithrun anyway)
Sorry if this ask sounds rude, I just genuinely don’t understand the appeal of the ship, but I want to understand and I trust your analysis of characters very much :] maybe there’s something I’m missing
I really like both ships, actually!
For labru, there’s sooooo much I could talk about. The inherent homoeroticism of being narrative foils. The inherent homoeroticism of being the king’s advisor. All of chapter 76. The fact that Kabru has mask upon mask upon mask, and Laios is the first person that made his facade absolutely crumble.
Kabru struggles with being genuine!!! Everything he says and does is so perfectly calculated, even when he sort of means it. But since Laios doesn’t get social cues, Kabru gets thrown for a loop.
I get so frustrated when people act like Kabru still hates Laios by the end of the manga!!!!! He killed those corpse retrievers for being corrupt, and yet he couldn’t bring himself to kill Laios. He has such a strong sense of justice, and knew that killing Laios would be a mistake. Because, after meeting him, he could tell he wasn’t actually evil. He’s strange, sure, but not evil.
Kabru DEFINITELY wants to be friends with Laios!! He was not lying about this!!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
But this last comic shows how much Laios wants to be friends with Kabru, too. He’s so nervous after calling Kabru his friend 😭 he doesn’t want to be presumptuous and fuck it up again.
Laios does show an interest in Kabru, at least when Laios thinks he’s interested in eating monsters too. Like,, what was up with THIS
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Laios’s gaze is LINGERING. Plus, (this is before that bit at Thistle’s house when he forgets his name) he brings up Kabru when they first form their plan to eat Falin.
Tumblr media
And maybe this is just because of my own personal experiences, but Laios reminds me a lot of my own girlfriend. I think they have a similar flavor of gay/aspec & autism combo where, had I not asked her out first, she probably never would have considered being interested in me. But she was very down when I did.
The tricky part about labru is more the political aspect. Regardless of whether you see Laios as aroace or not, he’s in a situation where he will probably get married. He had a fiancée before he was age 13, likely betrothed since he was a baby. He’s already comfortable with the idea of getting married because He’s Supposed To.
However, Laios is king, and could make gay marriage legal if he wanted to (He would probably do this for his sister and Marcille before considering it for himself ). But at the same time, I think Kabru would object to Laios making whatever policies he wants without considering the repercussions of how other kingdoms might react, especially when they’re just getting Melini off the ground and need lots of support from other countries. Laios and Kabru getting gay married anyway and dealing with the aftermath could make for a really compelling story.
I do think Kabru would be a good ruler. He’s already fit for it. He speaks a dozen languages, he knows people and their motivations, and likes politics. The manga already joked about Chilchuck’s daughters trying to marry a king, so it seems like noble blood isn’t too important, but Kabru’s foster family IS nobility. When it comes to heirs, I do like trans Kabru headcanons, but at the same time, I think it’d be cute if they adopt anyway. Kabru seems like he’d have strong feelings about adoption given,,, yknow.
The alternative version of labru to this is Laios gets straight married out of obligation, and Kabru is his mistress hdhdhshsj. I don’t know if I could see Laios doing that? or if Kabru would risk the scandal of being outed as Royal Advisor and Regent trying to seduce the king. It could go SO downhill. but maybe that would be fun.
NOW FOR KABUMISU.
I knew people shipped them, and I could see the basis for it while reading, but I wasn’t really sold on it until the very end. There’s something about “I had no desires left. I decided to create new desires, and one of them is you” that’s really charming.
There’s also something funny about “the demon ate my heterosexuality so I’m gay now”
I think it’s interesting that Kabru hates elves. He was raised by them, and he hates them. He hates feeling patronized by them. He made absolutely sure that elves wouldn’t take control over Melini, not just for his sake, but for Rin’s.
But Mithrun’s interactions with Kabru are founded on more mutual respect. Though, that’s not to say that Mithrun doesn’t still have his biases towards short lived races..
Tumblr media
Where Laios doesn’t understand social cues, Mithrun does but just doesn’t care. For that reason, I think Kabru would enjoy spending time with Mithrun. It’d give him a break from his compulsion to calculate all of his social interactions. But at the same time, Kabru is the KING at bottling his emotions. Mithrun is blunt, but also doesn’t care enough to pry. If Kabru had anything bothering him, I could imagine him seeking Mithrun’s company to avoid thinking about it. Could make for a fun dynamic.
I do think it’s funny that Milsiril 1) took care of Mithrun for potentially 20 years and 2) is only four years older than him. I imagine this could lead to funny situations.
I don’t ship things for no reason! I think both of these could work platonically, romantically, one-sided, or even “requited but they don’t do anything about it.” Their relationships compel me and I think it’s sort of bad faith to brush off either like they’re nothing more than baseless yaoi pair-the-spares. To me, I see just as much of a foundation in the source material as farcille.
After all, dungeon meshi isn’t a story about romance, but it IS a story about love. It’s a story about life and death and grief and the love that comes with it. Regardless of shipping, these characters love each other!!! And I love talking about it!!

Dmc 3 Dantes design is AMAZING in a storytelling aspect but does NOT work outside of dmc3 AND I’M SICK OF SEEING IT USED IN CROSSOVER MEDIAS !!!!!!
Long ass yap under cut
Dante has always been one for over the top outfits and designs. In the dmc1 novel one of the first sentences is talking about how Dante is flamboyant. At the end of dmc3 we see he has his dmc1 outfit on with all the layers and vest and everything. NOT shirtless.
At the start of dmc3 bro was getting out of the shower, like you hear the water and the shower faucet. You see the water droplets and steam coming off of Dante. And when he answers the phone he says the shop isn’t open yet. Dude was having a lazy day.
Dante did not have time to put on a shirt, he wasn’t planning on going out anywhere or doing anything, he was just eating pizza and chilling. I see SO MANY people (including cannon media like the dmc3 manga) just assume he regularly does not wear a shirt…. like he does! he just didn’t have time to put one on before Arkhams bitchass showed up with his demons.
Don’t even get me started on those pants…. light brown has never been a part of Dante’s color scheme so light brown pants definitely seem weird right? Also he had no belt despite clearly needing one.
Tumblr media
Like look at this render, you can see how far his hip is from his pants. He probably just threw on some old pair without thinking about it. And with no belt too, every other version of Dante has at LEAST one belt. So seeing Dante in light brown pants, alone with no belt is definitely strange.
Yet it WORKS SO WELL for the overall design in 3. Reducing the amount of black in his color scheme to better focus on the red and establish him as a much lighter character compared to Vergil ties in perfectly with the dark reflection trope Vergil and Dante play into.
The most iconic thing about Dantes design has always been that red coat. No argument there. So taking away the rest of Dantes more extravagant parts of his design to better focus on the coat is perfect especially for dmc3. Another thing that ties back into the dark reflection trope of Dantes and Vergil is that cutting down on Dantes design makes Vergil and Dantes personalities reflect in their designs so much more. Vergil is very well kept, with a much more complicated outfit and slicked back hair. So Dante being the opposite of that with a lack of shirt, pants that don’t match, no belt, etc. (while still being flamboyant with that red coat) shows their differences in maturity.
Tumblr media
You look at this guy and you KNOW he put so much time and effort into his look. He exudes elegance and effort. Meanwhile Dante’s just thrown on a coat and called it a day.
Tumblr media
My point is. This design is great for the storytelling aspect of dmc3 as well as the symbolism and metaphors in dmc3. However, we know Dante doesn’t usually dress like this. He wears shirts. So I get personally annoyed when I see Dante portrayed as that one dude who never wears a shirt. I head cannon that around the shop when he has nothing planned he won’t wear a shirt (saves money on the water bill cuz less laundry) but if he plans to go out or have the shop open or whatever, he’s putting on the full fit. Shirt, belt, coat, and plenty of other accessories.
Also here’s the second paragraph from the dmc1 novel cuz I just love how he’s described not only as flamboyant but also adorned with a lot of jewelry:

Hey bbg, I’d like to request Fluff headcannons for yuuji, todo, gojo and Toji!
-🧀
JJK men as your boyfriend! —
☆ pairing(s): yuuji x reader, todo x reader, gojo x reader, toji x reader
☆ part two!
☆ content warning(s): straight Fluff, mentions of ass slapping, and boobs groped bc of toji and todo. a little manga spoiler on toji’s! (?)
☆ A/N: i didn’t know if u want fluffy boyfriend headcanons but that’s wut i’m doing! hope u enjoy bae :] AND SORRY THERE ISNT MUCH FOR TODO. i don’t know his character too well. Mans disappeared in the manga lowk where is he? 😭 also lmk if there’s any errors!! oh and my request are OPEN
Tumblr media
YUUJI —
yuuji loves to cuddle after missions, he loves it so much. he can’t help that he misses you so much. especially when you’re only with gojo because of your cursed technique
yuuji can’t help but make you feel overwhelmed in a good way with compliments.
yuuji feels like he must protect you and you the same! it’s a mutual thing because of your love for each other!!
yuuji loves to squish your stomach, butt, everything. he likes you.
yuuji LOVES to cook for you! he’ll even clean up after for you!
whenever you’re sick, yuuji knows immediately. he will take care of you all day. he makes you soup, he feeds you. he gives you medicine, he forces gojo to leave him and you alone for a week (if even…)
yuuji feels so safe around you! whenever you’re in one of your rooms’ alone, he feels so vulnerable and sometimes if he’s alone in his room, he cries. he cries because of how overwhelming his love is for you. he can’t believe he has you!
he loves to take care of you but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t like to be taken care of either!
whenever you take care of him and get worried of his wounds, you might scold him but you’re so worried you can’t help but just baby (?) him in a way.
he loves you… his heart actually might explode
he spends so much time with you, sukuna just bullies him about how smitten he is for you.
sukuna finds you cool. he uses your name actually, he respects you but he doesn’t care much to talk to you if you don’t talk to him.
yuuji wants to be with you EVERY second of the day!! he wants to be at your side and hold you!
yuuji loves whenever you see him and your eyes light up.
he loves whenever you talk about something you love.
he wants to hear all the rants you have and he wants to know what your current obsessions are! especially if it’s him
— TODO
todo is very much an ass person (sorry. i have to.) he definitely slaps your ass when he comes to see you.
surprisingly actually super caring. especially if you’re having a bad day, instead of trying to be super “gym bro” vibes about it. he’s taking care of you and asking what you need
lowk this guy would be a gym bro and a “the boys” type guy. I’m Sorry.
todo definitely carries you around everywhere
he’s the type to lift you up in air and just throw you over his shoulders and walk you to your room even if you’re 2 steps away.
he makes note of what drinks you like and buys them for you!
whenever you’re in tokyo, you love to mess with megumi but todo gets a little possessive in a sense because he thinks megumi is boring and not interesting. he doesn’t even care for women with big butts mane. (megs is a respectful kid.)
makes fun of you whenever you fall on your face
i would assume this relationship would have kissing but i feel like it would be more of a joking type of relationship.
GOJO —
MENACE ALERT. he steals everything from you. EVEN YOUR CLOTHES (ESPECIALLY IF THEY DONT FIT THEM BECAUSE OF HOW HUGE HE IS.) if they can fit like a crop top he wears them. but if you’re plus sized and always have those baggy shirts (me too bae!!), he wears them bc your scent is on them.
he’s always eating sweets, it makes you have a sweet tooth too now because you’re always with him.
toru loves you squeeze you! you’re just so cute!
he’s totally trying to get you to stop ignoring him at work. he wants hugs and kisses but you won’t even budge. the students start to wonder if their teacher was lying about being in a relationship with you.
that’s until they saw you give in when you thought you were alone. they saw him trying to kiss you and when he calmed down, you finally gave him a kiss. you better bet he was begging for more and also knew the students saw.
this guy has zero shame, no remorse, and no sense of PERSONAL space!!! he doesn’t care. what’s his is yours and what’s yours is his. he wants to be all on you. he loves being everywhere near you. gosh he’ll smell you like a little weirdo.
the students think he’s a creep, but in reality, you love satoru so much. you just try to keep social, romantic, and work life balanced. it’s hard when you’re arguing with higher-ups and you can’t go to your boyfriend who doesn’t care if his students see you both hugging and kissing. you just want the students to be comfortable and also their teacher not distracted like an idiot.
when the kyoto students see you for the first time, they wonder who you are, because you’re always on missions, you never met the students from the other school.
satoru was late, so you filled in before he came and introduced yourself! then he came and you just wanted to leave but toru made you stay because he wanted you.
you and satoru lay down at bed at night and he sometimes cries because he doesn’t know why you’re with him. he wonders what he has done right because he was a little bit of a bully in high school, he has a bad personality and he’s always being targeted. by the higher-ups and cursed spirits…
he just loves you so much and he never wants you to leave. it would break him completely. he can’t let you leave him.
though, you won’t ever. you’re always cuddled up in his chest and before you sleep, you always trace hearts on him
satoru liked PDA. the amount of PDA he tries to give in public is hilarious. he loves to poke and tease you as well.
satoru is actually a good cook btw! (he’s good at everything he does. an actually fact.) he made a dish for you while sick and you appreciate that even when he’s the strongest, he makes time for you. he makes yuuji and megumi check up on you too.
megumi has grown an attachment to you ever since satoru took him in. megumi literally loves you and tells you everything.
satoru loves to hear you complain about work because he’ll just agree with whatever you say. he just wants to hear you talk about something. he loves you so much and it shows.
satoru buys you gifts all the time!! he loves to buy you your favorite things! he also buys clothes for you! he loves to buy clothes for you!!
he also loves when you wear his. he doesn’t always wear tight fitting clothes because he doesn’t like it (but you’ve definitely convinced him to wear a compression shirt once!! it was Gorgeous.)
after a long day, he loves to shower with you or take a bath. he’s good at massages and loves when you take care of him like washing his hair. he loves whenever you take care of him (you do it every second of the day).
satoru is just super caring and loves his baby so much!! he wants to marry you. he’s so lovesick.
— TOJI
toji isn’t the best man! he’s super broke yall..
he does care for you, but he definitely misses megumi’s mom over anybody. like that’s his one and true love.
he might end up comparing you to her but he loves you too.
toji hugs on you because he’s afraid you might slip away from him.
he’s an ass slapper. he also definitely stares at your boobs.
you’ll get your ass slapped and boobs groped out of no where because of him.
he loves when you make food. it’s always so good
whenever he comes home and you’re not there, he gets super anxious but it turns out you took a quick trip to the store!
he loves to go everywhere you go if you let him.
when he comes home all bloody and needs treatment, you’re always there. he loves that you take care of him.
toji wants to take care of you but he doesn’t know how to show it. he’s afraid.
(SPOILER?) the man can’t even see his son so he abandoned him type of afraid.
toji loves you though, he kisses your cheek and hugs you all the time.
he has a major soft spot for you.
he lowk wants you to have his kids!! (again!!!)
toji can’t take you out on dates because he barely has money. you’re the one who does that.
you do a lot so the least he can do is try to make you feel loved.
you know you’re loved by him though. you see it through him.
you guys love each other and it’s noticeable. the lovesick!toji begins!!!

I know it's rare for ANY translation to do so, especially English to/from Japanese since the languages are so dissimilar, but can you think of any time where a translation added to a scene, or made it better in your opinion?
Oh plenty of times! There’s even one in this chapter. I try to call them out when I notice them because I appreciate them myself. I don’t have a specific tag for them, though.
The thing is…
Sorry, Anon. You accidentally triggered one of my rants. If you just wanted an answer it's up there ⬆️
Good translations are not rare. Good translations aren’t even rare in manga anymore. The reason a lot of people think of all translations as bad is because people used to not take translations of manga seriously. They wouldn’t give it any care or attention, they’d just whip off whatever sounded close enough, and if they got whole-ass words wrong here or there then it didn’t really matter. Because it’s just comics, right? Who cares about that kiddie crap.
Translation - good translation - is HARD. It’s not just understanding two languages. Linguistic differences between source and translated language are not the reasons translations turn out bad. It’s cultural differences. You have to understand the literature and art and history of both languages, because that informs the environment that the author wrote in and the environment the readers are reading in. You have to make sure someone can just pick it up and read. Giving people cultural context in asides and footnotes and a glossary is great and all, but the experience of reading should be about the TEXT, not about the language. A good translator has to know about cultural and regional backgrounds and tensions in both languages.
Turning a Kansai accent into a Southern accent is a great example of what NOT to do, because the two regions have vastly different cultures that aren’t comparable. An easy illustration is that the stereotype about Southerners is they’re very polite and gracious and charming and speak slowly, while the stereotype about people from Kansai is they’re blunt and aggressive and outgoing and speak fast. But it was the industry standard for years to just slap a “funny accent” on any character speaking with a dialect.
On top of all of those concerns, comics has the additional limitation of space. The translation must meet all of the previous requirements, and also fit into a speech bubble. There is no getting around that. You have to sacrifice meaning somewhere in situations like that, and in an ongoing series with as many twists and late reveals as One Piece it can be hard to guess which word is the one that is crucial to the plot.
There are times I definitely think the translators did a great job, it's usually most noticeable with wordplay and puns, but I'm not sure "better than the original" is how I'd describe that. I think it’s very risky for a translator to try to make the work “better.” The original Swedish translation of Dracula did that back in the day and what they wound up publishing was basically fanfic. (It’s supposed to be really fucking good, though. It just has no more than a passing resemblance to Dracula.)
What does “better” look like? Is it when everything makes sense and is easy to read? But maybe the author wanted this scene to be challenging so you’d slow down and think about it. Is it when you take that random joke out of the serious scene? But maybe that joke was there to balance out the tension of the scene. Is it when the characters always act the way you expect them to? But characters, like people, have contradictions and inconsistencies, and if you take those out the character will be flat and boring.
That’s why I think a good translation is one where the translator is invisible. If they’ve done their job right, you should never think about them. But then, if they’re that good, it’s easy to forget how hard they work to get the product that good. And that’s when people start to think we don’t need translators, we have language learning models and machine translation… But that’s a different rant for another time.
Side note, Viz still pays actual human translators for their work. So do Yen Press and Seven Seas, last time I checked. I’m not about to tell you to NOT pirate shit, but if you buy one of their books you’re actually paying for a person to translate it.
Anyway, sorry/thank you for giving me an opportunity to rant about this. As you can see, it means a lot to me.

You know... I was just joking when I said everyone is after Shiki's body.
I didn't think that statement would ever become something so cursed (pun not intended). Not only do centuries old entities want to get inside her (pun intended), but apparently so do young aspiring clan heads like Naoya and the Kamo reject. I suppose the only saving grace here is that Gojo Satoru has taken to the trope of the overprotective big brother a little too well.
On a brighter note (so many puns), it was nice to see Shiki channeling her inner Hinokami Kagura for the Obon ceremony. Does this mean we'll see her performing consecutive Black Flashes in the shape of a dragon head? I think we should call it the "Black Halo Dragon Head Dance."
Tumblr media
;)
Although on a more serious note I can easily imagine how this ceremony might factor into Shiki's development as sorcerer. From Satoru's explanation Jujutsu is mostly an instinctive art, there are few things that sorcerer's techniques have in common other than universal techniques like the aforementioned Black Flash.
Thus, it stands to reason that performing a ceremony which honors the dead will have a profound impact on Shiki's own technique, which revolves around death. Perhaps setting her up for her eventual Domain Expansion?
Haha Shiki is rather popular, isn’t she? (Whistles)
It is indeed a very lucky thing that she has Gojo Satoru on her side watching out for her. Makes you wonder what would happen if he was taken out of the picture, right? :D
I actually wasn’t thinking about Hinokami Kagura at all when I was writing the scene (more JJK0 than anything, really) but in retrospect it’s actually?? Kinda fitting I guess? I already have an idea in mind for Shiki’s Black Flash! Nothing to do with dancing, unfortunately. Assuming I don’t change my mind on it, we should be seeing Shiki use Black Flash before she officially enrolls as a student at Tokyo Jujutsu High.
And now I want to write a Demon Slayer AU again, oh no…
Canonically we know that jujutsu is, like, 80% innate talent? People can use simple shikigami and barriers, which seem pretty universal, but cursed techniques are something else entirely. I don’t recall if we’ve seen simple shikigami in the manga, but the paper dolls in zenith of stars would be an example of that haha.
But anyways, Shiki’s cursed technique! Aligns very nicely with the ritual and the dancing, hence the ‘unique phenomenon’ that occurred during the okuribi. The light show and her realizations during it do relate to her cursed technique (and thereby her domain expansion), but there’s still a ways to go before we get everything clearly spelled out and I’m definitely looking forward to writing that. :)

Hello, different anon~! Pls Don’t assume I am the last one, I am just a Honobono oshi who reads & analyzes the original japanese text 24/7, and therefore, overtime— have become Hifumi oshi! So sorry if I come off disrespectful, as I am not good at formalities. (;ω;)
Slug i admire you as a translator but i feel youre becoming way more biased over time. The way you talk about Hifumi is unprofessional, and you change so much in your work. it’s a glaring issue. It became clear during Positive Is My Life, as you have done nothing but directly change the lyrics to his song— change the meaning of his words, and change everything down to his opinions of Honobono. YOU have translated Hifumi actively saying he is against the idea of forgiving Honobono and just wants to understand her, but now you’re pushing a weird idea of him forgiving her that is nowhere near intended? He didn’t say he wants to be her friend, he said that he IS her friend. That is directly what he said. in the nicest way possible, I feel like you’re missing alot of social cues when it comes to Hifumi. Hifumi being effeminate(Read; Effeminate. Not Feminine, as not being masculine doesn’t make you feminine. The definition of effeminate is “having characteristics and ways of behaving traditionally associated with women and regarded as inappropriate for a man”.) is a key part of him as a character. I understand you resonate with him as a cisgender man, but he has literally taken upon himself a more traditionally feminine role IN the Side F.P & M Bonus Drama Track 1 . He actively took upon himself in the Doppo & Hifumi Karaoke duet the role of “Woman/Wife”. I think you actively putting your bias into him is a big issue that needs to be fixed. It’s completely okay if you don’t personally like that he is effeminate, but you are not an official writer. You are a manga only translator. One of the key parts of HypMic is the way things are said, and it feels as if you are actively weaponizing the fact you are a trusted translator and Manga-Onlyer to push an agenda about Hifumi. Your personal interpretation of Hifumi is not relevant, as he is not your character and this is not your manga nor your series. Hifumi expresses very non traditionally masculine ideals with the way he talks/dresses himself/carries himself— as a key part of him and Doppo as characters is not fitting the societal norm, especially with their relationship. Nothing about Hifumi is traditional. If you try to change Hifumi’s effeminate behavior, you strip Hifumi of his personality, and I fear that’s whats happening. This is for the sake of the amount of people I have seen make complaints as I understand it can be stressful, as you are a busy person— but please. Do better, and try to take less creative liberties. You are not an official translator, nor an official writer, nor an official anything, so you have to understand you cannot speak on these characters as your own. Everything you see for them are just personal interpretations and headcanons coming from someone who has not consumed all possible content. It doesn’t make sense to be translating something like a song, as you aren’t equipped for that, and not even in a rude way. You’re good at manga translation, and that’s okay. You just need to think inside the box a bit more, as for HypMic— you barely even know what’s inside said box.
Not to mention, bringing up misogyny for his line about wanting to do the Princess Playstyle in games (not exclusive to japan, fyi. people do it in the states all the time.) was gross to me, as a woman myself. That was nowhere near anyway it could be intended by any sane individual, especially if you’ve actually perceived the lyrics in Japanese— so to say that, while not even being a woman is… Gross. It comes off bad, and the only personally who really saw it that way was you, since everyone else I’ve seen talk about that line when properly translated by Takumi (I think that was the translators name? my apologies. I am better at formal spanish.) just perceived it as cute, which was the goal of the line, and you can tell. Again, apologies if I can’t articulate well, as I’m more used to speaking formally in spanish than english.
Thanks very much for your thoughtful comment! I'm sorry to have upset you, and I'll keep this in mind moving forward.

Would you mind elaborating on your views on the villains as a disillusioned youth? It’s such an interesting take and it feels so genuinely accurate I haven’t been able to stop thinking about it and how that framing changes how I perceived their characters
Ah, well, I'll do what I can. At some point this'll dip into a subject outside my wheelhouse though.
To me, the League of Villains notably fail to stand for any message. They just become whatever messages they absorb. Tomura specifically does this when he allows Dabi and Toga to join, and AFO comments on how he’s just using Stain’s ideals which Tomura doesn’t buy into. But by co-opting Stain’s message, Tomura gains allies. This sort of thing happens throughout the entire series--where they cooperate with the yakuza in order to gain their tech, or they allow Tomura to become a symbol of freedom so the meta liberation army will follow him. Tomura is not swayed at all by Stain’s ideals or the yakuza’s or the MLA’s, but he allows these people into his fold regardless. And you basically have this again with the mob at the hospital in the most recent manga arc. The LoV capitalize on the emotions of others in order to earn others’ strengths for themselves. So they’re not representing any real message or philosophy. They’re not “villains who have a point” in the traditional sense. They’re representative of something else.
In a story about kids going through academia to become heroes, wouldn’t the villainous corollary have to be something similar? You need the “villain academia” counterpart, basically. What do the LoV all have in common? They’re outcasts left behind by society. This is the part where I get into something I am definitely no expert on, so please go research this more before you fall back on my explanations: one of Japan’s famous major social problems is its “lost generation” that resulted from the economic stagnation of the ‘90s. With the aging population and the economy in a...very weird state, a lot of the youth in Japan have felt abandoned and lied to by the world around them. We’re sort of going through something similar in the west, especially Gen Z in the USA, but Japan has been ahead of us on this trend for a few decades now (a canary in the coalmine, so to speak). Basically, the Japanese youth go through academia, work really hard to study and pass grueling entrance exams and go to a big name university that is supposed to guarantee them a high-paying corporate job they won’t ever be fired from and fulfill the expectations of society. Yet so much about Japan’s rigid, traditional structure leaves many of these children by the wayside by the time they make it out of school. There is a large contingent of “failures,” the children who couldn’t follow this one true path, or those who did everything they were supposed to and still got screwed anyways. You end up with a generation full of people society broke its many promises to.
So that’s what I see when I look at the League of Villains. I see a contingent of youth who were screwed over by their society and its broken promises to them. I see society’s “rejects” that society pretends it didn’t create and is content to ignore and vilify. I see an angry, discontented swath of abandoned people who demand to be seen and heard, even though they don’t have some cause to rally behind or message to convey. I see a ball of disgruntled emotion, a problem society caused, a problem society must change to fix. I see the kids who wanted to fit in but were excluded, so they rejected the norms to save themselves.
And so that perspective informs how I think the heroes must address the villains, or rather, why it’s easier for the student heroes to address these villains than for the pro heroes.

Hey
I am Re-requesting a Match up and this time i better aware of the rules.
I would like a personality match up, As before , I am an ambivert, I can talk with people but i do have a burn out point, I always try to think outside of the box and when i get interested in a subject I loose myself in it, I would class myself as loyal and caring though i can be dense when it comes to others also ive been told i can't pick up on sarcasm, i guess my main negative trait is my tendency to apologise too much and i self sabotage when things are going well for me, I also wear my heart on my sleeve I also enjoy a drink from time to time .
I am Bisexual and I am Nonbinary, My pronouns are She/ her, they/ them, In the match up I would like to request a male character.
My likes are: Anime and manga (a given), geek culture, listening to music whilst i draw.
My dislikes are: (i know i might get hate for this) Pineapple on pizza, Baked beans, tomatoes, conflict, sudden loud noises, I absolutely hate it when people say one thing and do the opposite.
My hobbies are: writing even though i never publish much on here, and I enjoy running as to me its the best way to take my mind off things, I would like to learn how to cook so in the future i guess cooking.
I do hop this time around my request is more in fitting with your rules and my deepest apologies if not and thank you again for hearing me out
Hi friend! I’m so happy you reached out and decided to reach out and resubmit. Don’t feel bad at all! I should probably have a separate post for just rules. Anyways…. Since you were extremely nice about everything, I’m giving you a perfect match and personality matchup! Let’s dive in! We will start with the perfect match!
You got…
Portgas D Ace!!!
Tumblr media
He values loyalty very much, so having a loyal partner would be important to him.
He’d love to here you talk to him about everything you love. And I have a feeling you’d do the same for him!
When you feel like you need to get away from people, he’d come with you to make sure you were okay and to spend time with you!
He’d never order pineapple on a pizza for you! Probably because you don’t like it and it would be like eating Marco (lol get it! Because Marco looks like a pineapple)
I feel like dates would be him taking you on his striker (his favorite way to get away) so that you two could run somewhere!
He’d love that you wear your heart on your sleeve because he knows that you love everyone but most importantly him.
You are most like…Sabo!!!
Tumblr media
You both seem to like to talk to people, but you also need time alone!
He’s a writer, but technically he never published anything!
He’s not great at understanding when someone (Koala) is mad or sarcastic
He hates people who lie.
We all know he’s a giant geek!! Don’t tell me otherwise!!!!!
He’s definitely one of the most loyal and most caring people in the show! And I bet you are super loyal and caring like him!
I hope you like it!!!

Revisiting AnWL’s Original Bachelors
Before I state my own opinion on the bachelors, I’d like to address this:
So with everything else in AWL, the game’s original three bachelors (Rock, Gustafa, and Matthew) have received a facelift and slightly updated dialogue/cutscenes. I’ve seen a lot of back and forth online on whether people liked the big changes made to Matthew and Gustafa’s appearance (Rock’s appearance changed very little from 2004 to now) and I, for one, welcome our new(old?) bishie overlords. To really put this topic in perspective, I think we gotta keep in mind that when Another Wonderful Life came out, it was more-or-less 98% the same as A Wonderful Life, just with a re-skinned female PC and male marriage candidates. I have the strong suspicion that Gustafa, Rock, and Matthew (Marlin in the OG) were never originally designed or written with the intention that they would become the hottest bachelors in a female-led game. A lot of this can be seen just by comparing them to their female counterparts - all of the bachelorettes (aside from Nami) have a traditionally cute appearance and warm personality. The bachelors don’t follow this pattern as rigidly. Matthew is stand-offish, if not outright rude; Gustafa isn’t handsome; and Rock is.... well, flakey?
This isn’t to say the bachelors didn’t have their own charm at all. Rock shows his inner heart of gold on occasion, and is always honest. Matthew is a hardworking man just trying to contribute to his sister’s farm, and dealing with his own baggage. Gustafa is light-hearted and easy to please.
I think their facelifts in the most recent game just signals Marvelous’s commitment to appeal to more players within their target age range. Gustafa and Matthew look younger and bishie. Rock’s dialogue has him slightly more sympathetic. I don’t think these changes could be considered bad at all - just a sign of different times, with Marvelous understanding their players better.
Anyways, on to my opinions on the latest version of each of the three original bachelors: (I’ll give Gordy, the new bachelor, his own post later!)
Tumblr media
Matthew is the first I wanted to talk about, because on the outside, he’s definitely changed the most. Gone is the bad-boy 90s delinquent hairstyle and demeanor that seemed more fit for a shonen manga than a farming sim - now he’s an office-worker bishie, but still struggling to make his own way in a new village, just like in 2004. Unfortunately, his updated looks don’t save him from his crappy attitude. One of his first rival cutscenes is him yelling at you for simply trying to carry on a conversation with Cecilia. You only get, like, two sentences in before he jumps down your throat. Ugh. That on it’s own way enough to discourage me from continuing to pursue him as a love interest. It’s just obnoxious and possessive. Would you believe this guy is 32 and still acting this way? In traditional fashion, other NPCs don’t call him out on his behavior, even Vesta, who knows how ‘he can be about Cecilia’ - and you’re just supposed to put up with it. I’m not sure if further cutscenes eventually remedy any of this, but his behavior is off-putting enough that I didn’t care about finding out.
Tumblr media
Gustafa remains as chill and groovy as ever. He’s looking a little more John Lennon than elf/leprechaun these days, but the overall aesthetic is the same. They took his original shrugging animation away and replace it with the same generic arm-wave as everyone else, but not everything can be a victory. He has some expanded dialogue that freshens his character up a bit, and the love song he sings during the romantic cutscenes makes more sense in this translation than the first game. Gustafa was always my favorite in the first, and he continues to be so in this remake - always gentle and kind, and a good spouse and father. If only he could play more than one melody on his guitar. I just hope he bathes more often this time around.
Tumblr media
Ah, Rock, the would-be playboy of Forgotten Valley. Still getting up at noon exactly. Still getting chased by the dog. His dialogue has been reworked to make him a little more humorous this time around, instead of mildly-annoying like before. The translators did a good job with him, and I was always interested in what he had to say, even if it was useless. Unlike Matthew and Gustafa, his design was almost entirely unchanged - his pants are slimmer and that’s it. His voice has also mysteriously deepened... though I wouldn’t put it past him to use a voice changer to try to entice the ladies. Just like Gustafa, his unique animation of gesturing with both hands was also removed for the generic arm-wave. He’s genuinely fun to talk to, just to hear what he has to say. His slacker attitude is off-putting as far as romance goes, though, even if none of the marriage candidates actually work on the farm. It’s about the attitude, people!

And for the last fandom for this fandom prompt, I'm hitting a fandom of mine that kind of desperately could use a lot more love than it currently gets, Nanbaka! It's part of why I love creating for it so much, because I do feel it doesn't get the love or attention it should! For anyone wondering, my lovelies, I have about six more fandom prompts I plan on throwing up soon and then I'm hoping to get at least one, but possibly two, good quality responses to a request out before shit-posting some gif reactions/non-gif reaction headcanons for various fandoms that I have kicking around.
Send me a fandom and I will name a character:
Who I will protect at all costs: Nico is a precious treasure. He’s gone through so much that he shouldn’t have had to but he’s still so cheerful and sweet and pure and just…ugh, I want all the good things for him.
Who deserves better: Shiro! So many people seem scared of him but he’s just a gentle giant who loves cooking!
Who was killed off too early: Nobody. Absolutely nobody that my mind can come up with at all. Nanbaka really did start out as a comedy, after all.
Who I used to hate but now I love: I hated Honey at first. Just something about him really irked me with his first appearance but I did really grow to enjoy him. I don’t quite love him as much as some other characters but he definitely grew on me.
Who I used to love but now I hate: There’s nobody who fits that bill because, while there’s character’s I mildly dislike, there’s none I absolutely despise, to be honest with you all.
Who needs to be killed off asap: I think it’s just because of my own personal feelings, but Inori could disappear forever, and I genuinely would not care.
Who is unfairly hated: There is really nobody, either by the writer or by the fandom. I won’t question the writer’s decisions for their own story, and I firmly believe that everyone has the right to feel however the feel about fictional characters, love or hate!
Who is unfairly loved: See the answer above.
Who needs to sort out their priorities: Oh, so many but I’ll go with the notable one. While I understand a lot of where Enki was coming from and why he did what he did, I also feel there were vastly better ways to handle it all. The way he did what he did was shit and it left lasting repercussions for those around him.
Who needs a hug: Samon. I really feel Samon would benefit from a daily hug. He really does get the brunt of it and isn’t respected enough. Also, the group from his building that we see a lot of, that is Liang, Qi, and Upa, also qualify for this.
Who needs to get out of their current relationship: Either Elf or the man with the scar. Those two together are toxic and take everything horrible about the other and amplify it, at least the way I view and see it, with the headcanons I have.
Who the writers love: Honestly, it’s Jyugo. However, he is the main protagonist, so it is only natural and they definitely don’t fall into the trope of making him just this incredible person with no flaws. I actually really enjoy his character and don’t mind the amount of focus he gets, though my heart, as with most of my fandoms, belongs to the minor characters.
Who needs a better storyline: A lot of characters honestly. I’m not fully caught up in the manga, so there is a chance a lot of the characters got more fleshed out and got character development, but a lot of the minor characters could use more focus. Even ones we really should know more about, like Mitsuru, don’t really have full storylines or fleshed out characters yet. However, Nanbaka did start out mostly as a gag manga, so I can get the reasoning behind why they don’t.
Who has an amazing redemption arc: I don’t think it counts as a full out redemption arc, considering there wasn’t really a lot of backstory or build up to it, but I liked seeing Qi’s character growth from his introduction to where he is now.
Who is hot as fuck: No lies, there’s just something about Rock that really does it for me.
Who belongs in jail: So yeah, funny thing…most of them kind of are in jail? Or guarding a jail. So, this question for this fandom is kind of a moot point, haha!
Who needs to be revived from the dead: I really don’t have an answer for this in this particular show/manga, honestly. The only person I can think of that I would really like to see more of, that doesn’t get much screen-time and could kind of fit this category, is Jyugo’s father. I feel like there’s a really interesting story there that would be well worth reading or watching.

Another bnha rant!
I sometimes see ppl say that the reason there’s so much fanfiction for stories like bnha is because they’re just ok but have a lot of potential that’s being wasted so fan-creators step in. This is definitely the case for some fandoms, but for BNHA, I just don’t see it. Everyone has their opinions on how it could be better for them as a story, but I think everything is really well executed. This may just be because I like a lot of the stylistic devices used and the character arcs/development. For example, I’ve seen opinions on the first few chs. in regards to Deku receiving OfA. ‘Wouldn’t it be a better message if he could make it on his own despite everything?’ I disagree, that’s a very typical moral of the story. I think it’s more interesting to show that to succeed, help is needed. Also the way that each Todoroki child reacts to Endeavor’s abuse differently. Or the use of humor to purposefully tone down the seriousness of an action, making us readers react to something like Bakugo being chained up to the podium during the sports festival the same way all the bystanders did. Plus, there’s so many little details everywhere….. I can go on so many rants.
Anyways, I think BNHA is a masterpiece. The reason people want to create so much fanworks for it is because it has a lot of potential that would be impossible to tap into while still maintaining the pacing of the story. There are just too many characters, all of which are so well-written, to fit every detail into the plot. Horikoshi actually does a pretty impressive job in regards to how you can see character development in the background, in changes overtime with body language, who a character is standing next to… all of it. But that still doesn’t tell the whole story. So it’s really fun to make up stories based on these little points we can see, and there’s so many for us to grasp. Additionally. We are at the point in the manga where characters keep getting hurt with no comfort yet, so a lot of people like to read/write their characters being ok or having a life that wouldn’t bring them this much pain. Also, the characters are just cool, so people will want to see how they’d work in different AUs etc.

okay okay so what’s your favorite Shikai command, Bankai (the way it’s said) ,Bankai name, and Bankai visual? Also just what’s your favorite all time Bankai in general?
𓈒 𓈒 𓈒 💭₊˚ෆ ohh yeees, hii anon!!
ok ok so! this is honestly a piece of cake (i’ve totally thought abt this b4 ໒꒰ྀིྀི ੭ ˃̵ᴗ˂̵ ꒱ྀི੭ ) let’s goooo . . .
my favorite shikai is definitely—without a doubt— “shatter, kyōka suigetsu” ! it is just so beautifully done. like the whole “shatter” fits the work of his shikai. it has the ability to control all five senses to the point that the person can misinterpret another persons form. creating a simple or complex illusion to deceive his opponents, such as creating a decoy of himself !! kubo is such an amazing mangaka, he did an astonishing job with every command, all are well written, but aizens definitely stood out from the rest!
my favorite bankai (the way it’s said) is no other than how ichigo says it ! it’s one of the most iconic lines and the va did such an outstanding job! you can hear how he says it from the bottom of his heart &’ puts all these emotions into that simple word. aaaand!! it’s the whole pause! oml the pause!! it’s that tiny pause that he does that makes it all much better. “BAN—KAI” !
my favorite bankai name is “minazuki”. unohana’s simple one word bankai name leaves me in awe (although her bankai is far from simple). there are different ways how one interprets the meaning of the name, but the one i like most is “all things end”. it goes well with how her crimson blood-like whip ‘blade’ which could’ve had acid due to the bubbles and hisses— which then dissolved and destroyed everything around her.
my favorite bankai visual? easy. it’s byukuya’s. the pretty swords that turn into pretty pink petals when given its command? count me in! i don’t think there’s much to say besides it’s so breathtaking! when it first appeared in the soul society arc, i was all giddy! plus it suits his so well, a pretty bankai for a pretty man!
my all time favorite bankai is and will always be uraharas. firstly, his shikai commands are mwahh: awaken, cry, &’ call out. the way he says “bankai” with his distinctively calm voice is a chefs kiss. the name of his bankai??! ugh so so good. “kannonbiraki benihime aratame” meaning “modification of the crimson princess dissection at doors of avalokiteśvara” (if you look into the meaning of it you’ll see just how much that bankai suits him) aaand omg the visual?? i can’t wait for his bankai to get animated, in the manga it was so beautifully drawn and when colored . . . oohh myy gossh. overall in general, uraharas bankai is my all time favorite. from his shikai commands to his bankai visual. absolute masterpiece !!

A week and a half ago, my old friend JJ passed away. He told me about his cancer diagnosis…I’m not sure when, I feel like it was only a couple months ago. Last I talked to him, he sounded like he wasn’t doing bad at all. He asked me to help his family out sorting through his collection, in the worst case scenario. And the turnaround on that was, much faster than I expected, than anyone expected, I’m sure. He had only just turned 41 a few months ago. I’ve known him for about twelve years. We went to college together, took Japanese together. His influence definitely helped shape me into the massive dweeb I am today.
I knew his family, was over at their house a few times, I also knew was his sister and her husband pretty well. Today, I came up to help out with the estate sale. I’ve been absolutely dreading coming here for the last week. This is the first time I had seen any of his family in at least three years, and everyone is understandably miserable, grieving, and trying to do all the stuff a situation like this demands as best they can. So far, at least, I don’t feel nearly as awkward as I thought I might, so that’s something.
Now, if you had asked me before today, I would have told you that JJ was quite the collector. Big fan of action figures, model kits, robot toys of all sorts, not to mention a wide selection of anime dvds and manga. But uh, he had -much- more than I thought he did. Between his bedroom, the basement, the storage unit down the road, there is, an almost unfathomable number of items. Many of them, by sheer dint of sitting around long enough since he purchased them, are now worth a small fortune. At the very least, with my assistance identifying many of the more niche items, selling them all will cover the expenses typically associated with dying, and hopefully also get everything to homes where they’ll be appreciated.
Before I came here, I went to the local hobby store, partly to buy a Qubeley for another friend of mine, but mostly to ask them, if they’d be willing to buy JJ’s backlog. They were nice enough to say yes, which is good, because selling model kits online is such a pain. Having someone buy the whole kit backlog without having to ship out all those big boxes will probably have the same net profit, with substantially less hassle. But somehow yet again, I drastically underestimated how much stuff he had lying around. The trunk of my car is almost full of 30 Minute Missions, Sisters, SMPs, and all sorts of other kits that were purchased, put in the basement, and never built. And somehow there’s still more. I don’t know if it’ll all fit in the trunk. But it has to, because the back seat is covered in boxes upon boxes of Star Wars, Marvel, and He-Man collectibles that I’ll be taking to another one of my local shops that deals in used toys.
The other day I was telling my mother about all this I was going to do today, just making conversation, letting her know what I’d be up to. She told me, very emphatically, that I was not to take anything home with me. In fact, she said I shouldn’t even bring any of the items the family asked me to resell into my house for any length of time. Which, even for my mother, is a really weird thing to say. I’ve already got enough stuff of my own, to be sure, but I set aside the SMP Layzner figures, since that was a show JJ and I watched together. (Not to mention, trying to sell built model kits is typically a fool’s errand. People want to build them theirselves!). If I can find them, I might also take the Armored Core kits he had me build ages ago, when I had no backlog and he wanted to customize the final product without the extra steps.
JJ had all this stuff, and almost none of it was out on display. He had one detolf in his bedroom with some nice scale figures, and everything else was in various sized plastic boxes. I think somehow this has actually made the process of sorting and identifying -more- difficult. Took an hour today to not only figure out which Nendoroid went with what accessories, but which display base was theirs. All we had to go off of was the copyright info on the back of the base, which was anywhere from somewhat to completely unhelpful, depending on how many kanji were involved.
We found a selection of animation cels under his bed. Lots of good stuff from good shows in there, it’s a shame they were left like that for who knows how long. Somehow, it was seeing a frame of Gije Zaral from Space Runaway Ideon that made me closer to breaking down crying than I had the rest of the day. Realizing that, I had finally finished watching Ideon, JJ’s all time favorite series, and never got to talk with him about it.
To summarize, I’m feeling a lot of wildly different emotions right now. Missing my friend, most strongly. He wasn’t religious, and most days I’m not either, but I hope he’s found his way into a pleasant afterlife, or at least an enjoyable isekai fantasy type deal. There’s definitely a twinge of “oh no, do /I/ own too much crap?” and some generalized world-weariness as well. But it’s not all bad. I got to pet a lot of cats today, and one of them snuggled with me for long enough that I think I’m wearing more cat hair than clothing now. And tomorrow, after some more sorting and pricing and organizing, I’ll head home and have a nice holiday weekend with my wife and some friends.
I’ve been typing for an hour and have no idea how to wrap this up. If anyone has actually read this far, thank you, it really does mean a lot. I hope you are also experiencing a fluffy cat and maybe a warm blanket. Here’s to a full night’s sleep because it’s way past my bedtime.

" or for Isagi to stop looking at Rin's thighs whichever is easier" I- 🤣. ( this was so noticeable in that leg extension machine scene he had no reason to go and check up on him, stop him from overworking and prompt him to take rest but he DID)
I thought I was crazy for thinking that abt that one Rin panel but I'm glad I'm not the only one, since Kaisagi is rising in popularity esp w/ Hiori's comments abt the in-universe social media. Idk whether to lament over the lack of rinsagi or absolutely LOSE it over Isagi's reaction. Like it wasn't the kind of cute denial that Raichi was saying it was, bro was so OFFENDED. I can't.
Then again, it makes sense since public has seen more of Kaiser-Isagi than with Rin. I wonder what Isagi's reaxn would be if it had been Rin's name that had come like that 👀. Definitely not visceral disgust to this level.
Besides, recent chapters had carved a place for kainess in my heart and I feel like those 2 should cuddle and go to therapy. ( Any thoughts on recent chapters, that choking scene was disturbing...).
Do u think the light novels and profiles are not written by Kaneshiro? Bcz while they weren’t bad at all( they were quite great) there was this missing spark in them. Like with Isagi, they made him out to be able to see mosquitos across a room and note the temp change in the air as a BABY?? I-??????. I am very confused.
And in a profile, he has 200 level or smth eyesight?? Normal is 150 so.., idk maybe I am just being extremely dumb.
But to me, manga Isagi was so loveable and inspiring bcz he was a normal person who was willing to break and challenge himself to reach his goal, forging a will that was strong enough to withstand all the pressure. Not superpowers.
And in his profile, his type is someone who smiles a lot and it fits bachira but to me it sounds like another way to fit in to what people expect of him. There was a meta on Isagi and anger expression floating around in tumblr. And it says how Isagi loved Noa's style bcz of how brutal it was and through football he was able to exert anger in a socially acceptable way instead of being the peace maker and going along with Ichinan style football and just agreeing with Tada's decisions and blue lock is a release frm that. And like you said, isagi isn't as driven abt bachira as he is about him. Narratively too, that is a good thing, allowing bachira to make new connections and new bonds in Spain instead of being fixated with Isagi. And frankly, I don’t think it's healthy for Bachira to get with the first person to be his friend. Let him experience life first.
Well then, I am so excited for Pxg VS BM. The potential match ups, Kaiser most def knows Sae so some interesting conflict w/ Rin if he mentions that like Luna did. The Isagirin matchup, I'm just so excited. Also ,"# Stop looking at Rin's thighs challenge."
P.S. - I wrote a Rinsagi fic, so plz check it out.
How can I read your fic if you didn't send a link lol
Kaneshiro-sensei literally addressed the Kai//sagi shippers in the chapter: nope, not happening, no way, via Isagi himself. He may subvert this later on, but as far as I can tell, given the story's trajectory + Isagi's own character arc, it won't happen. Kaiser will most likely be coming back as a rival/enemy in the U20 World Cup arc too. There simply is no motivation for Isagi to ally with him at all.
Rin's spotlight and turn is coming up, so again, I'm not worried about the current lack of Isagi and Rin moments. It is supposed to be THE highlight of the NEL arc for good reason. And yeah, I doubt Isagi would be as offended if fans had been saying that about him and Rin. On the down low he really is fond of and respects Rin, whereas he despises Kaiser for just about everything besides his skill in soccer.
Truthfully, I've grown a little bored of the recent chapters. Not so much that they aren't good chapters, but more that there's a lack of variety to the characters. IMO Kaneshiro-sensei has hit a bit of a wall on character cast and variety - Ness' backstory is a touch too commonly seen for me to really get into, and feels lacking in effort, though tbf Ness is at best a tertiary character in-series who's there to prop up Kaiser's story.
No real thoughts yet on the choking scene. Currently it's only a sign of Kaiser's desperation to me. The throne he thought he had secured might well be about to collapse from underneath him due to Isagi's growing skill. Seeing how he'll match up against Rin is also interesting, seeing how Rin is actually very much self-sufficient as a striker, while Kaiser thus far seems quite dependent on Ness. I also believe that the PXG match will bring Kaiser into direct confrontation with Loki, who is posited as thus far the best U20 striker we've seen, given how he's a master for the PXG team, rather than simply a fellow player. Fingers crossed that Loki smokes all of them, including Noa, if he comes out to play too.
No, the light novel most likely isn't written by Kaneshiro-sensei, given what I know of the industry. The bulk of it is likely by Moegi Momo-sensei; with credit given to Kaneshiro-sensei because he's the OG creator of the Blue Lock series. That said, there's a good chance that Kaneshiro-sensei provided Moegi-sensei with story ideas and rough character backgrounds who then developed it into proper stories for novelization.
The character profiles are more likely to be done by Kaneshiro-sensei himself, though I am going to point out that it's published as 'supervised by', rather than 'written by'.
Emphasizing this: I generally don't care about light novels, character profiles etc. in terms of my interpretation of the story. To me, what appears in the manga is the only canon there is. Everything else that's official are canon-adjacent and supplementary; fun to read and get an idea of how the characters' personalities and relationships are off-page, but otherwise unimportant unless explicitly referenced in-story. Whatever is not depicted in the manga proper is free real estate.
As for Isagi in the light novel. Well.
Tumblr media
He reads as autistic, from that apparent hypersensitivity + his hyperfocused interest in football, and as I've mentioned before: Isagi is also written very much as a tabula rasa, a blank slate of sorts, for target readers to be able to slip themselves into. I think that the emphasis is on Isagi having very clear vision, his personal advantage, amongst the rest of the cast, but again, to me, the light novel is not as important as what we see depicted in the manga proper.
No comments on Isagi's type in the profile, and how it could be Bachira. They're decently written together, and I understand why people would ship them, but they are also just kind of 'meh' for me. Kaneshiro-sensei may intend to write them as a pair, but they are a pretty run-of-the-mill standard MC + best friend ship, with the highlight being Bachira's personal growth via his relationship with Isagi. There are more satisfying ships for me in Blue Lock, and better romances in other animanga series, and while I am fond of shipping, I'm not reading Blue Lock for the shipping. It's just a nice bonus that I find Isagirin's relationship so damn interesting that I've stayed invested.
I haven't read that meta, but that's an interesting interpretation of Isagi's character. Blue Lock is somewhat of a meta commentary on the failures of the general Japanese culture's need to conform to societal pressures and not 'rock the boat', and how it has led to an under performance in football. Isagi as a whole has also been growing more assertive and more confrontational with others, though Kaiser's the only one whom he views with solid enmity.
In the light novel, Isagi's idolization of Noa stemmed from how Noa bypassed the opposing team one after the other, and then from how Noa would rather 'lose a game by a hat trick than win one with an assist'. And doesn't that sound quite like a certain someone, lmao.
Cheers to having PXG match to look forward to next year after the hols!!

One Piece And Originality
youtube
When I saw this video I immediately thought of One Piece in how it’s a story with many before seen archetypes, story beats, and characters you’ve seen in other series, but in a creative and original “execution”. When I say “original execution” the series puts a twist on common trope that not many would think about but it can still be considered that trope on paper. For instance, it’s a pirate series but what is considered a pirate can be varied.

It can even go for other groups like both people in this group are assassins.

And let’s not even get into the devil fruit- the power system of the series. The series is all about how how creative and original they can get with the powers. Something that could look innocent and non-threatening can easily turn into something that can make someone into a powerhouse due to how creative they are. The categories of devil fruit are paramecia, zoan, and logia. Paramecia are a plethora of powers that don’t go into either latter powers, zoans allows the user to become a certain animal and a hybrid of it, and logias which are considered

Take for example, Luffy the main character the ability to stretch doesn’t seem to be that impressive until you have seen the abilities he is able to do with it because he stretched the definition of what rubber is.
Tumblr media
These are the Gears they are the most powerful moves of Luffy and spoiler for Gear 5, they also reveal the true nature of what his real power is. Because Luffy’s power is not just being rubber but he is a based on the god of liberation. It also throws out everything we knew about the fruit’s classification because it isn’t a paramecia but a zoan. And one called a mythical zoan that allows the user to turn into a mythical being who often has great powers attached to it. However, in order to attain those powers Luffy had to have a creative mind to access them.

And in many ways it’s a turn on the chosen one aspect because due to the fruit being based on the god of liberation, Luffy could be seen as the one who will liberate the world from the world government. But it was the fruit himself that chose, and Luffy isn’t the reincarnation of the last user of the fruit. But he’s just the will career and the perfect candidate. And funny enough, instead of it being spelled out in the beginning he’s a chosen one the story gradually shows how Luffy by chance was able to do it and fit the bill. And funny enough he didn’t come to liberate the world, but just happened to do it by accident because people were messing with those he calls friends.

Also the series does stuff unlike other manga which is embrace the weirdness. This includes being willing to make all sorts of weird character designs who would be joke characters in another series but end up being more powerful or important than they look. Some of them even end up being major villains or people with sad backstories that can make the audience cry. But for One Piece it stays unique due to never letting a character be judged because they can often be more crucial than they appear.

This also includes the places that serve to highlight the arcs and the themes shown during that arc. Even in small towns you can see little details that Oda puts to emphasize certain cultural differences between towns. But everyone of these towns put an memorable impression and makes the series give excitement to where the strawhats will go next.

SYA Extended Notes Ch. 5
Excerpt from "See You After" Chapter 5: June 2: Todoroki to Bakugou
There was a little girl there. I think she’s about Eri’s age. Her parents were at work so a nurse was looking after her. They were feeding the koi and asked if I wanted to join them[...] She seems really smart. Kind of reminded me of you, but I think that’s mostly because she said my hair was funny and called me a peppermint.

I don't remember what inspired this bit originally. I think I just wanted to give Shouto a quiet moment that he could write to Katsuki about and while I was writing the draft the little girl and the koi fish just showed up on the page. (I think Shouto awkwardly but lovingly interacting with kids is super cute and we need more of it.)
藤谷病院 (Fujitani Hospital)
Tumblr media
Obviously, I'm inventing my own facts about the hospital for the sake of this story but I didn't want to invent a whole new hospital and I like the idea of Shouto being able to spend time with his mom while he's recovering. There are other things that went into the thought process but those are the main reasons.
Legend of Korra reference
Tumblr media
I'm not sure how this scene from Legend of Korra popped into my head while I was writing this fic because it's been years since I last watched it but the sentiment of this particular scene really fit what I was going for in Shouto's letters in the beginning of this arc.
Shouto's current struggle with his quirk is somewhat similar to Korra's inability to enter the Avatar State and in both cases they isolate themselves from their friends but eventually reach out to one person who will end up becoming their romantic partner.
This is what it turned into in "See You After"
Please don’t tell the others. I’m pretty sure Aizawa Sensei told them I’m okay but I’m not really in the mood for visitors and I don’t want to hurt their feelings if they find out I’ve only been writing to you and not them.  -Shouto to Katsuki
The reality is, when you're hurting so badly, it's hard to reach out to people even if you know that they care. But sometimes, if you're lucky, there will be one person you feel like you can talk to.
(That doesn't mean the responsibility is all on that one person, of course.)
BNHA Canon references
Writing fanfic for a piece of media while said media is ongoing and is in the middle of an exciting time is a Journey™.
(For context, I'm posting this right after Ch. 404 was released. Further thoughts with spoilers below the cut)
I think I said this before but nothing in the plot of "See You After" has actually changed based on the recent manga chapters.
The only edit to this letter that I made after chapter 404 came out was that one sentence about Katsuki saving All Might. The previous draft had a vague thing about him saving Izuku and continuing to fight because I was trying to hedge my bets since I'm still trying to keep things as close to canon as possible.
I was originally on the fence about giving explicit spoilers but then THAT happened and I couldn't not include it because they definitely would have talked about it.
Tumblr media
I also wanted to reference, Shouto's scene in Ch. 390 where he finally makes it to Touya and realizes that the whole family is there.
Tumblr media
His words were fitting for his character and yet so heartbreaking because even after everything he did, after the burden that was placed on his shoulders, he still makes a point of saying that he couldn't have done it alone.
Also, it sounds an awful lot like Touya's words back in Ch. 351 when he accused Shouto of depending on everyone else (as if that's a weakness rather than a strength)
