Give me strength. I will finally attempt to read the two books by Brian Herbert concluding the original Dune series.
I have always refused until now to read them because I read House Atreides, House Corrino and The Butlerian Jihad and utterly loathed every word of it. But I just finished my periodic reread of the original series and my library had the audiobook of Hunters of Dune available.
So... I'm barely an hour into the audiobook and already so goddamn sick of it. I'm not at throw-book-at-wall levels of rage yet (that honour belongs to House Atreides), but it reads just as terrible as my memory of the other Dune books by the son: like endless, boring recaps of action, just to recap the recap ten pages later, and everything is infinitely more stupid.
I love Dune. Say what you want about the original books' content, but they were smart, imaginative and interesting. The son's books are neither.
