i have grown to like my (slight) rhotacism and accept it as a distinctive part of how i talk but the one problem is back when i was in middle and high school and it was more severe people would think i was british or sometimes australian even though literally everything else about how i talked was very much Aggressively Bay Area Californian but ppl heard the less pronounced “r” and were like non american spotted 🫵🏻

Actually, whenever I think of Tim Drake in my head, I always give him the poshest British accent I can think of, just the absolute most “early nineties cartoon villain” voice I can think of.

Tim in, like, every other timeline we see him in either dies or becomes evil (then dies). Tim was introduced by being a dark figure stalking Nightwing and Batman. Tim in the Young Justice comics has constant awareness of all of his teammates to the point that, while they do trust him entirely, none of them would be surprised to find out he murdered someone.

Tim should have a cartoonishly villainous voice. Just, he should. Take my word for it. Every single Tim line is improved tenfold by reading it in a British accent, try it.

so fully incredibly wholly annoyed that the year i finally muster up the courage to try out for the yearly play at my school they choose peter and the starcatchers.

#1. all but TWO roles are for guys only and one of the not guy roles is able to be a guy if they choose (i am not a guy) #(the one Only Girls role they have is literally the Main Character which i do not think i would be chosen as bc i have no real experience) #2. IT HAS SINGING. we do a play and a musical every year and the play is supposed to be for people who cannot sing (me) BUT THIS HAS SINGING #3. the characters are like 11. high schoolers are 14 at the minimum (i look 18) #4. it’s just Questionable. like i’m reading it and it’s not very good. there are definitely some good elements but mostly it’s just Meh #5. all of the characters have british accents (i am not good at accents) #i also can’t read music idk how to sing the audition song bc of this #if i don’t try this i won’t be doing any theater next year (which is very very sad) bc theater 3 didn’t fit in my schedule #and i only have one more play i can try out for after this #L after fucking L #ash rambles #rant over i’m just sad #ash.txt

There are many horrible realisations a person can have.

My first was realising I pronounce a lot of words similar to Philip Wittebane, and my second, which I have had just now, is realising I also pronounce a lot of words similar to Percy de Rolo (this I specifically realised in a conversation about the movie Chicken Run).

These two facts lead me to the third, most horrifying realisation yet: I have a stereotypical British accent to the highest degree.

Every time I read my own stuff and get David dialogue it’s so funny to me only one person ever went “Okay but David’s phonetic script isn’t actually an English accent. It’s clearly Scottish,’ which is absolutely true, and I truly don’t know if it’s funnier to me only one person ever called me out on that or asked why it was that way, or that it was Rowan the friend who is part Scottish that did.
