Ooh I bet your goblin friend is so cute! How is she taking the changes?
She’s great! She’s really embraced her changes. It’s probably easier for her because she has a whole tribe down at Nexus for support. Seriously that place was a super spreader event, I think there something like 200 goblins and a handful of orcs over there. So she’s got plenty of support from them.
She’s roommates with our other friend Naomi, who low key likes the change, because she got Jen-Jen to give up her room and move into Naomi’s laundry hamper lol. It’s like she owns the whole place and has a goblin butler, and Jen-Jen still pays half the rent! But Naomi does take care of her, and make sure Jen-Jen keeps up with all the human things she needs to do.
She used to be kind of our leader, so the biggest change for all of use was dealing with how submissive she is now. Like aggressively submissive, wanting to please everybody, pour our drinks, stuff like that. But she was really encouraging to everyone and encouraged us to all be bold and have fun and that’s all still there! All the stuff we loved about her to begin with.
Plus she’s much easier to shop for now. She’s a rich bitch, and you just couldn’t buy her anything, because she had it newer, better, and two of them. Now For her birthday a few months ago we all gave her a pair of our dirty socks, and she nearly cried, so that’s a plus!
So as always, same but different. Same great and caring spirit, now just stinky and smol!

We Were Robbed: The Biggest Missed Potential of the Nexus Invasion
Aka Regal should've been on team WWE with Bret. It's rambling time babies!!!!
Aight. Let me give you a recap of the beginning of the invasion because holy shit is this story is convoluted and because holy shit it's been twelve years.
Heres a good full Nexus video.
The year is 2010, right? It's a wild ass time. Bret Hart is Raw GM (Yeah, bet you didn't remember that either, huh?) Season one of NXT finishes up.
Tumblr media
I just think he's neat ♡
Okay, Now. The day is June 7th, 2010 on RAW the main event. Cena vs. Punk for the WWE championship. It's going well, it's vibing, the fans are going coo-coo bananas (props if you get that reference).
And then, it happens. IT HAPPENS. Wade Barret, NXT season one winner comes down the ramp, spectating until the other members creep down.
And they beat the kentucky fried fuck outta EVERYONE AND EVERYTHING. Cena, Punk, Jerry, they tear up the ring they hurt announcers ALL HELL BREAKS LOOSE.
It's the next week, June 14th. Bret fires Wade Barret.
And later the same night, Cena comes out, and confronts the Nexus on the mic. In the ring. Alone. And of course, they come outta the crowd, circling the arena like sharks. It looks like he's fucked. But guess what? Lawler, yes freaking Jerry "the King" Lawler, slides in to back him up! And then Evan Bourne, And then....WILLIAM REGAL????
Tumblr media
THERE HE IS THERE HE IS
Yup! Regal was apart of the locker room team that went to help Cena!
But wait? Why is he defending Cena? isn't he a heel? Yes! At this time, it was months after ECW ended and his run as Skip Sheffield's PRo on NXT ended so he returned to RAW as a heel, still chilling with Vlad, former Ruthless Roundtable member. He even backs up big time fellow heel the Miz against the Hart Dynasty, which by the way, is pretty much the only time we ever see William Regal and Bret Hart in the same Arena at the same time. (I know. I know.)
Okay. So. Crazy. What happens after that?
Nothing. Jack squat. Well, actually, not exactly nothing. You see, the Nexus attacked both Bret Hart and V*nce McMahon, leaving the show without an authority figure. So guess who replaces them?
The fucking anonymous GM. Yup. This is where it all started.
Okay, so where does Regal come in again? That's the sad part. He doesn't. You think it would make sense for at least half of the team that later combats the Nexus along with Cena and a returning Bret at Summerslam would be composed of the Pros from that season, right?
Tumblr media
The Season one Line Up
Well.... We did kind of get that.
But, uh, Stuff happened.
But hear me out. here's my idea: Regal should have been on team WWE.
We could've finally had Bret and Will in an actual match together!Think about it. This could have led to a face turn before he went to NXT. He can still be a villain! There are faces who do scummy stuff (*cough* Edge *cough*) but how interesting would have been for Regal, just coming out of ECW, to keep up the momentum after helping Cena and decides that since Skip was his pro, he feels weirdly responsible? Why else would he have helped Cena? They don't particularly like each other.
It could also be respect for Bret. either way, the more he helps, gradually...he could realize he liked being apart of a team. For once he's not the common enemy people are fighting against.
Anyway, injuries happen, yada yada, this is our team.
Now don't get me wrong, the match still SLAPPED.
But imagine Will confronting J*richo who at first didn't care about any of this at ALL.
"In case you've forgotten, Barrett was your rookie, and now he's leading the group destroying our show! Don't you feel even a tad bit responsible?
"Nope."
"Well, I do."
He joins forces with Cena, and then a returning Bret. Along with the members of the final team we got at Summerslam.
A REGAL FACE TURN. BRET AND WILL ON THE SAME TEAM. WE COULDVE HAD IT ALL FOLKS.
TLDR: The Nexus invasion fucked but would've fucked more if Regal was a part of it and we finally got him and Bret in a ring together.
....Okay Bye ♡♡♡♡♡♡

how many timelines did the TVA have to "reset" because Loki can't keep his hands to himself when it comes to the Tesseract? legitimate question to think about.

Mobius' backstory delay = a really good sign for Lokius
The writers didn't just pull showing us Mobius' family from S1-- they likely shifted all the storytelling they wanted to do with that family onto the Other!Mobius we just met at the end of the S1 finale...
...and all of that is very, very good for Lokius.
How, you ask?
Consider that the one big difference from the Other!TVA to the one where we spent the rest of S1 is that they all know that a variant of He Who Remains runs the show. That heavily implies that none of the Other!TVA agents, including Mobius, are kidnapped variants. They all *just work there*. It's a regular, bureaucratic 9-5 job. No need to kidnap & brainwash people in this timeline: people are just recruited & work of their own free will. They have choices and their own lives. They go home at night when their shifts are over. Some of them likely have families. If you think the show just kicked Loki in the teeth over him realizing that he's in another timeline and this Mobius isn't his Mobius, wait until he meets this Mobius' *goddamned perfect, totally sweet, equally cinnamon-roll-y f*cking romantic partner*...
Other!Mobius: Oh, Agent Loki! I don't think you've met my other half yet. Honey, meet my new partner on the time force.
Ben Stiller (lol): So, you're the guy my husband can't stop talking about!
Loki: *dying a slow death inside* Ah, I do believe I hear B-15... Barbara... whatever her name is... summoning me for ah, some very important reason!... lovely to meet you!...
Y'all, Our Loki is going to have spent time during S2 in an alternate timeline where Mobius has a sweet guy and maybe a jet ski and probably a dog and maybe possibly a kid and definitely all the free will he can imagine and will be a lovely guy as all Mobi fundamentally are but won't be *Loki's* Mobius and won't have the experiences specifically that Loki's Mobius has that specifically make him the man who he is, who is also the man that Loki loves. All the boldly gluttonous amount of angst that the show wants to play with by giving Mobius a family around Loki just as Loki is realizing he wants to be Mobius' family is now something I'd be willing to bet they're doing with Other!Mobius in S2... for the express purpose of pushing Loki into action when he reunites with his Mobius.
The show spent time in S1 setting up the idea of Mobius regaining his memories and even had space to explore that in. I predict it was a consideration for Episode 5, when they all spent some time chilling in The Void and there was a strong theme in that episode in particular surrounding family and found family. Could they have had Mobius get his memories back and given him a family and would there still have been hope for Lokius? Of course. Mobius was almost certainly a younger adult in the 1990s, which means giving him a family without an express ability to get back to that family without, y'know, destroying the fabric of time (at least at this point in time) would have resulted in a really good, angsty plot. Or, hell, he could have *had* a family and might have even if we see his memories at some point. Maybe that husband from the other universe that Loki theorizes could be the love of Mobius' life in every universe? Maybe Loki's theory isn't wrong. He could enchant Mobius and we find out that the partner died or something. Ben Stiller could well be an universal constant, y'all, and even that might not even destroy Lokius. That's just truth.*
The point of doing anything with Mobius' various backstories on the show is going to be to advance Loki and Mobius' relationship in the present and that's going to be true even if these stupid time agent idiots don't just kiss at some point. It's true of their friendship as well as any potential romance. I think that learning what Other!Mobius' life is like in the other universe is going to lead Loki to continue to act very selflessly when it comes to his Mobius' happiness when they reunite (continuing off of having told him he was a variant in the first place in S1) and to make sure that he knows about IGiveUpOnCallingTheHusbandAnythingButBenStiller in the other universe. Loki will offer to enchant Mobius' memories back to try to reunite him with this potential long love. This'll kill them both dead inside, of course, as Loki was last seen doing the Rom Com Run of Love Awareness and Impending Confession at the end of S1 and Mobius had a scene so overtly jealous of Sylvie that they named the damn score to it "Lokius" so these two, by the time they reunite, are well aware that they are in love with one another but haven't *told* one another that yet.
Hell, this could even be how they do. What if Mobius' response is just to tell Loki that he doesn't need his memories back because who he was then isn't who he is now and he knows that he doesn't love Ben Stiller because he loves Loki and he knows without a doubt that he's never felt like this before?
Yeah, oh yeah, Lokius Nation, we're going there...
What else is the point of admitting that Tom & Owen, I mean, the writers!, decided to scrap the idea that Mobius has a guy waiting for him in a Texas Blockbuster in 1997 if not for making sure that, while there can be angst a-plenty, there ultimately isn't somebody else that our Mobius decides he has to honor his commitment to and shatter Loki into pieces over? The writers want to play with all the pain of these two, for sure, but this is Marvel, not The English Patient. (I'm making all the '90s references here, I know.) There's plenty of tragedy already here in this show that has an unusual obsession with hinting that they're steering this boat towards a version of Peggy & Steve's Endgame ending in the short term.
Kate Herron said they cut Mobius' family because they aren't sure what exactly his backstory is yet which is a way of saying that the one thing they *are* sure of is that they don't want him to have had a normal family life in the past-- otherwise, they would have just done that already. Why would you yank out all that angst when it's clear you still need to play with it because of the nature of Loki and Mobius' relationship? Why toss it to another Mobius to have the family and provide that scenario for Loki's development and his and Mobius' relationship development when there was an option to give it to our Mobius? Easy answer there:
they need a clear romantic path for our Mobius to Loki.
One could still have existed-- and still will exist-- if they give our Mobius a family in S2 but it's really suspect to me that they had plenty of opportunity to do that already and decided they didn't want to give him one and just said basically "we'll figure out exact details of his life as we go next season but it ultimately doesn't matter what the specifics of those are when it comes to our overall S2 story plotting because we know what we want the *jist* of it to be and that's that Mobius isn't missing a heck of a lot in his past life-- that the loneliness and need for adventure that he has that we know in the present is possibly also some spillover from who he was before-- and that whatever he's going to find in his memories are not going to ultimately impede furthering his relationship with Loki."
He can have a jetski empire or have been a private eye or was an accountant whose nexus event was trying to kill himself, who the hell knows-- it'll all be *interesting* when we see it but the second the writers decided that Mobius wasn't a man with a wife and 2.5 kids in '90s Texas... that's the moment that the path to Lokius just became quite a bit easier and I say that as someone who is fully aware that the two characters I am discussing are presently trapped in different timelines.
So yeah, just some writer's two cents but we'll see.
*Ben Stiller as Other!Mobius' husband in a jealous-off with our petty God of Mischief... no wait. WAIT. Ben Stiller as Other!Mobius' *Loki variant* husband... not sure how that works since this universe doesn't seem to have Lokis that we know of yet but let's deem it so and will it into existence...

Saw ep 4 earlier today and I have some thoughts:
Not to be looking at this with shipper glasses but I did not see any “chemistry” between Loki and Sylvie, at all.
What I did see on Lamentis and later in front of the TimeKeepers and was Loki attempting to comfort Sylvie and also maybe tell her that he believed in her. That she could be who and what she wanted to be
Sylvie’s nexus event was I’m betting her wanting to be a Valkyrie—someone who saves people. Someone who could be a hero. And I can’t see the timekeepers being in favor of a Loki who was a hero. They wouldn’t get a Loki that people are made better by in the same way.
Like think about it. The Avengers came together to defeat loki. Thor grew past what he had been with Loki as both foil and mirror. But in both of these cases Loki is used as a foil. Something the Avengers negatively fought against. And Thor for all he loves Loki still viewed him through the lens of occasional antagonist.
A Loki who grew up knowing they want to protect their people… that might have been too much for the TimeKeepers.
So no I’m not on the Loki/Sylvie train, but I am on the boat of them being disaster siblings and I really want them to go find the Thor after the events of Endgame and take him on wacky space time adventures. Please and thank
Mobius my petty king you dropped this👑
Like yeah the angst of him being a bastard to Loki for half the episode was a lot. But I mean he was jealous as fuck. It’s obvious he has feelings for Loki and his reaction to Sylvie and Loki’s admiration for her was *chefs 💋 *. He just decided that Loki was into Sylvie romantically without really listening to Loki like at all.
Casey still doesn’t know what a fish is and if we end the season without him finding out I’m going to personally sue marvel
Detective Mobius was a mood. Him finding out what happened to C-20 made me want to see him and Loki in a noir detective story.
Ravonna we knew you were shady but that was cold as hell what you did to Mobius.
Hunter B-15 is the MVP of the episode. Love her so much.
I’m not gonna lie, even though I knew it was coming I gasped when our boys got got.
Sylvie is going to be burning down the TVA next episode with B-15 and I’m here for it.
💕Croki my beloved 💕
Okay all I want from the next episode is Mobius and Loki to find each other. (And a hug would be nice)
I’d also like the other Loki’s to be like supportive family members watching their reunion.
I mean is it too much to ask for the Loki’s to ship Lokius?

Israel’s National Security Council has assumed control of a massive bird flu outbreak in the Galilee, which scientists warn could become a “mass disaster” for humans.
Over half a billion migrating birds pass through the area every year, heading for warm African winters or balmy European summers, making this a catastrophic location for a major bird flu outbreak—right at the nexus of global avian travel.
The virus can be deadly if it infects people. The World Health Organization says more than half of the confirmed 863 human cases it has tracked since 2003 proved fatal. Most strains or variants of avian flu, H5N1, are relatively difficult to transmit to people.
Yossi Leshem, one of Israel’s most renowned ornithologists, told The Daily Beast, however, that it is the ability of these viruses to mutate into new strains that poses such a threat, as we have seen with the coronavirus.
“There could be a mutation that also infects people and turns into a mass disaster,” said Leshem, a zoologist at Tel Aviv University and director of the International Center for the Study of Bird Migration at Latrun.
So far, at least 5,400 wild cranes have died infected with the new H5N1 avian flu, which Israeli authorities fear could expand into a global emergency.
Of the 30,000 Eurasian cranes passing this winter at the Hula Nature Reserve, 17 percent are dead, and scientists fear the worst for their surviving brethren, at least 10,000 of which appear to be ailing. The infection of the cranes is the same strain of avian flu which infected chicken coops throughout northern Israel, and led to the cull in recent days of nearly 1 million birds.
Israelis will be without their beloved chicken schnitzel—and without eggs—until a supply chain of imported birds is established.
The deaths of thousands of wild birds in the Hula Nature Reserve, one of the world’s premier bird sanctuaries, “is an extraordinary event with global ramifications,” warned Tel Aviv University Professor of Zoology Noga Kronfeld Shor in an interview with Reshet Bet Radio.
Shor, who is also the chief scientist at Israel’s Ministry of the Environment, noted that the carcasses of other waterbirds, such as pelicans and egrets, have already been found.
Israelis have been warned not to approach any wild bird that looks sick, and not to touch any bird droppings.
Yoav Motro, a specialist in vertebrates and locusts at Israel’s Ministry of Agriculture, said that for now, H5N1 is presenting “like the opposite of COVID. Compared to COVID, the chances of [humans] catching this are very, very slight—but unlike COVID, the risks of dying from it if you do catch it are very high.”
“It is a tragic ecological event,” he said. “And we simply do not know how it will end, or where it will lead.”
Israeli scientists don’t yet know the full scale of the die-off in Israel because of the dangers inherent in fishing around marshes and wetlands. Observing birds that shy away from human contact and the urgent matter of retrieving bird carcasses is proving even more challenging because of the lack of waterproof protective gear currently available in the arid country.
While the disaster is evident in the Hula Valley, in Israel’s fertile north, crane mortality has also been observed in other sites, though not yet in Jerusalem, according to Yotam Bashan of the Jerusalem Bird Observatory.
“There is no way to know what is going to happen,” Motro said in an interview with The Daily Beast. “When you identify avian flu in chicken coops you kill all the chickens and disinfect the coops. In the wild, at this level of infection, I don't know where it will lead. I’m worried.”
Shalom Bar Tal, an experienced wildlife photographer, told The Daily Beast that he was one of the only people allowed nocturnal access to observe the dead and dying birds. “It could turn into an ecological disaster no less significant than the corona epidemic,” he said.
For now, no Israeli is known to be infected with H5N1, but Israelis who were exposed to wild birds are taking the antiviral Tamiflu.
Both Motro and Bar Tal noted the heartrending scenes of weak, infected cranes leaning over their dead. Cranes mate for life and live in strong family units, Motro said. “That means that when one dies, the rest of the family—I don’t know how to define it—but it mourns.”
The cranes’ close physical proximity to one another and tight-knit family structure almost ensures, he said, that when one crane dies, “a close family member will be the next to die.”
“There is no treatment,” he said, “no way to help.”
We can only hope it doesn’t mutate and jump species.

Star Trek: Discovery Season 3 Episode 7 Easter Eggs & References
https://ift.tt/eA8V8J
This Star Trek: Discovery article contains spoilers for “Unification III.”
It’s Spock time! In “Unification III,” Star Trek: Discovery has continued a story that The Next Generation began in 1991. And, in doing so, the series has created an episode of Trek that is both nostalgic as hell and also forward-facing and new. Back before we even knew what Discovery would be like, we were told Michael Burnham was Spock’s adoptive sister. And now, Spock’s sister has come home!
From TNG vibes to sweet nods to the reboot films, to a lot of references to Spock, here’s all the Easter eggs and shout-outs we caught in Star Trek: Discovery, Season 3, Episode 7, “Unification III.”
New Starfleet Logo on USS Discovery
During the opening moments of the episode, we see that a newer, more rounded Starfleet insignia adorns the shuttle bay of the Discovery. This feels commensurate with the upgrade we saw the ship get last week.
USS Yelchin
One of the “black boxes” Burnham recovered is from an “old” Federation starship called the USS Yelchin. This feels like a huge tribute to actor Anton Yelchin, who played Chekov in the Star Trek reboot films. Tragically, Yelchin died just before the release of Star Trek Beyond.
Two-Dimensional Thinking
Tilly tells Burnham that mapping all the Burn data works fine in two-dimensions, but not in three-dimensional space. This could be a slight nod to Spock in The Wrath of Khan. In that film, Spock points out to Kirk that Khan’s strategies indicated “two-dimensional thinking.”
Vulcan becomes “Ni’Var”
The new name for the planet Vulcan — Ni’Var — comes from OG Star Trek fan culture. In the 1968 fanzine called Spockanalia, fan writer Dorothy Jones came-up with the word “ni var,” which she claimed was a Vulcan word that referred to “two forms.” This is not the first time this word has made it into canon though; in the 2002 Enterprise episode “Shadows of P’Jem,” the NX-01 encountered a Vulcan ship named Ni’Var.
Saru and Burnham have no idea that Romulans have pointed ears
When Saru learns the Romulans are sharing the planet formerly known as Vulcan, he says: “The Romulans were considered enemies in our time.” Vance points out that “history forgot this in your time, but Romulans and Vulcans were two tribes of the same race…” All of this is true, but the funny thing is that because DISCO’s point of origin happens in 2258, that’s a full eight years before the events of “Balance of Terror,” in 2266, in which Kirk, Spock and pretty much everybody in Starfleet, learned that Romulans looked a lot like Vulcans.
Spock and “Unification III”
The title of this episode is a reference to the two-part episode in The Next Generation, “Unification Part 1” and “Unification Part 2.” However, in the TNG days, some of the multi-part episodes were styled this way; meaning the onscreen text read “Unification II” not “Unification Part 2.” This was also true of episodes like “Redemption II.” It was not the case with “The Best of Both Worlds,” “Time’s Arrow,” or “Descent.” It’s also not the case with the title of Discovery’s first episode of Season 3, “That Hope Is You, Part 1,” which very clearly spells-out the “Part 1.” That said, Discovery is the first Trek series to not actually show the episode titles during the opening credits, a tradition that continued with Picard. (Although Lower Decks used the TNG style and has the titles spelled-out in the credits.) That said, “Unification III” is the very first time an episode title in one Trek series directly posits itself as a sequel to an episode title from a totally separate show.
Spock’s “death”
Vance mentions that the reunification of the Vulcans and Romulans “took centuries after [Spock’s] death.” To be clear, this is a presumed death. Starfleet’s records would show that Spock fell into a black hole in 2387, right around the time of the Romulan Supernova. They have no idea he actually went back in time to 2258, and also slid sideways into the J.J. Abrams universe in Star Trek 2009. Then, he eventually died in an alternate version of the year 2263 (Star Trek Beyond), which, in the parallel Prime Universe is like two years before Kirk and Spock even meet.
So, Spock “died” in 2387, according to Starfleet records, but really went back in time to an alternate 2258, which in the Prime Universe, is the same year from which Michael Burnham went into the future. If you count Spock’s “presumed” death established here in Discovery, and his temporary death in The Wrath of Khan, and his “actual” offscreen death in Beyond, Spock has died three times. Starfleet’s recorded death of Spock being false when time travel was really involved also echoes Starfleet’s incorrect records of Spock’s bestie James T. Kirk, who everyone thought died in 2293 on the Enterprise-B (Generations) but, really, time-traveled via the Nexus and died with Picard in 2371. (It’s like space-poetry. It rhymes.)
Finally, it should be noted that all of Sarek’s children end-up as time travelers, except for Sybok, who, in The Final Frontier, touched the face of an evil space god, and got esploded.
Multiple Spocks!
The flashbacks we see of Michael talking to Spock (Ethan Peck), as well as kid Spock (Liam Hughes), come from the Discovery Season 2 finale, “Such Sweet Sorrow Part 2.” Combined with the archive footage of Spock (Leonard Nimoy) from TNG, this is the only episode of Star Trek, ever, in which Spock appears three times, played by three different actors and in none of the scenes is the character “alive” in the present. This is also the only time Ethan Peck and Leonard Nimoy appear as young and old Spock in the same Star Trek thing. That said, there are oddly several precedents for Trek episodes or films in which multiple Spock actors appear in the same story.
In the TAS episode “Yesteryear” Spock (Leonard Nimoy) meets himself as a young child (Billy Simpson.)
In The Search For Spock, Leonard Nimoy appears in the same movie with four other Spock actors, Carl Steven, Vadia Potenza, Stephen Manley, and Joe W. Davis. All of these other Spocks played Spock in his various stages of hyper-aging on the Genesis planet. But, don’t get it twisted, like Billy Simpson and Liam Hughes, these Spocks are canon!
In The Final Frontier, Spock (Leonard Nimoy) is in the same scene with an infant version of Spock. We don’t know who that baby was, but it’s a good bet that it wasn’t archive footage of Nimoy’s actual birth.
In Star Trek 2009, Leonard Nimoy obviously appears alongside Zachary Quinto, but you also have a third, child Spock played by Jacob Kogan.
In Star Trek Into Darkness, obviously, both Quinto and Nimoy appear.
In Star Trek Beyond, two still photos of Nimoy exist in the same story as Zachary Quinto as Spock.
In the Star Trek: Discovery episodes “Light and Shadow,” and “If Memory Serves,” Liam Hughes plays child Spock in the same episode that Ethan Peck plays an adult Spock.
Anyway. That’s a lot of Spocks! Does any other Trek character come close to having this many people play them? Second place seems to be a tie between Jean-Luc Picard and Christopher Pike, who have each been played by four distinct actors. Oh, and don’t even get me started on Molly O’Brien.
The Spock flashback!
By now, it’s obvious, but just in case you missed it, the scene in which Michael views archive footage of Spock comes from two different scenes in “Unification II.” One scene, where Spock alludes to “closed minds” happens fairly early in the episode. The rest of the speech, however, happens at the end of the episode. In both instances, Spock was talking to Jean-Luc Picard.
I never finished the command training program
Tilly mentions that she never completed her command training. This was a major plot point in Discovery Season 2, specifically the episode “Point of Light,” when we saw Tilly win the Command Training Program half-marathon.
Graduate of the Vulcan Science Academy
Burnham mentions she is a “graduate of the Vulcan Science Academy.” This is something her brother did not complete. We saw Burnham’s graduation day in the Discovery Season 1 episode, “Lethe.”
“Since the time of Surak”
Burnham mentions Surak, the founder of Vulcan logic. The first canonical reference to Surak was in the TOS episode “The Savage Curtain,” in which Surak fought with Kirk and Spock, alongside Abraham Lincoln.
Qowat Milat and “absolute candor”
We learn that Burnham’s biological mother, Gabrielle Burnham, has become a member of the Qowat Milat. This references the Romulan warrior nuns, introduced in the Picard episode “Absolute Candor.” Like Elnor, Gabrielle Burnham has a sword on her back. This episode was written by Kirsten Beyer, who, along with Michael Chabon, Akiva Goldsman, and Alex Kurtzman, co-created Star Trek: Picard.
The Temporal Accords
The Vulcan president, T’Rina (Tara Rosling) tells Saru: “Your jump to the future is not widely known, even within Starfleet.” Saru tells her that’s because they don’t want to be “polarizing, given the Temporal Accords.” This references Enterprise, in which Daniels told Archer that the Temporal Accords prevented time-travel from being used illegally. But, it also seems to indicate that Vance hasn’t told all of Starfleet where Discovery is actually from.
Essof IV
Burnham’s mom mentions that she landed “right back on Essof IV.” This references the planet on which the Discovery crew tried to “capture” the Red Angel. Presumably, Dr. Burnham didn’t land “right” back on Essof IV. She also, clearly, journeyed into the future. How long has she been living on Ni’Var? We don’t know. Long enough to become a warrior nun!
Needs of the many
Saru and T’Rina briefly debate about the maxim: “The needs of the many, outweigh the needs of the few.” This originates in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. That said, in The Voyage Home, Spock’s mom, Amanda, pointed out that Spock’s friends believed that “the need of the one” — specifically Spock — was “more important to them” than the needs of the many. Amanda raised Michael Burnham, too!
Vulcan gongs and fire reference “Amok Time,” and The Search For Spock
When Burnham invokes the T’Kal-in-ket, some very retro Vulcan-ceremony vibes. The gongs and fire are not only evocative of Spock’s “wedding” in the TOS episode “Amok Time,” but also the ceremony in The Search For Spock, in which Spock’s Katra was put back in his body.
Tilly and Burnham still share a room!
After much speculation, it seems very clear now that Tilly and Burnham still share a room. This is because Burnham makes a joke about Tilly asking her to “switch my bed to the other side of the room.” This means that they have been roommates since “Context Is For Kings” in Season 1 of Discovery. Is there just not that much room on the ship? Or do they just like it?
“Live long and prosper”
Somebody doing the “Live long and prosper,” thing isn’t exactly an Easter egg, but it is the first time we’ve seen Saru give the famous Vulcan salute. Saru joins several other non-Vulcan Starfleet captains who have flashed the famous hand gesture, including Captain Picard and Captain Archer. Is Saru the first non-human and non-Vulcan to do it? It seems so.

Rumor has it that Darth Akori'ira has a pet nexu.
Thank you! This turned into a rather long response, but I’m happy with it!
The Caraboose (posted on AO3 as well!)
Feelingthe warmth of the ceramic mug seep into the palms of her hands, Lanasettled back into the overstuffed armchair across from theall-but-named Director of the Sith Academy on Korriban. Well, one ofthem, at least. Her appointment had been to meet with both of theAlliance agents, not just one. But, Cytharat had been called upon tosettle a rather deadly dispute between acolytes. Some things neverchanged, it seemed.
Sheallowed her eyes to take in her surroundings – the mismatchedfurnishings, the mishmash of artwork gracing the walls, the two desksset back to back…one perfectly ordered, the other a perfectlyordered mess. Everything that spoke of two complete opposites beingstuck together. Yet somehow, it worked. Lord Cytharat and the Wrath were quite the team. They played ‘Good Cop, Bad Cop’ like professionals. They got results, and they got things done.
Shesipped her tea in silence, regarding the tightly wound woman beforeher. One knee bouncing over the other, a sheathed sword aching to bedrawn. The Twi'lek may have hated being forced to sit idle, impotentand useless, or so she called it, but she certainly had a way ofmotivating people into action. And Cytharat played off of her more‘extreme’ nature perfectly. It was the perfect cover. Rebuild themight of the sacred institution of the Sith, and recruit for theAlliance on the side.
“Haveyou identified any more promising new pros-” Lana’s words caught inher throat mid-sentence as she felt a cold, wet somethinggraze over the side of her hand. She looked to her left, nearlyjumping out of her skin (which by her standards meant a slightwidening of the eye…perhaps an arch of the brow…certainly nothingthat would actually give away her surprise) at the sight of a verylarge, very hungry-looking nexu smiling at her. “Oh, hello there,”she stated, as if the concept of having a nexu snuffling at one’sshoulder was the most normal of occurrences in the galaxy. “I’dheard rumors that you’d taken on a new friend, Lord Wrath.”
“Oh,Shake n’ Bake?” At the sound of her voice, the nexu let out alumbering chuffle and promptly trotted-paced-stalked the few stepsover to sniff at the Wrath’s shoulder. Nudging a giant clawed paw offof the arm of her chair, the Twi'lek had to lean to the side to seearound the feline’s imposing frame.
“Shaken’ Ba-?”
“Don’t.Ask.” The Twi'lek shook with laughter, her amusement clear as dayas she took in the sight of Lana’s rather righteous version of aquirked eyebrow. “But no, she’s not mine. This…this is Nik’sbaby,” she added, giving the thickly muscled cream-colored hide aseries of patting slaps with the palm of her hand.
Atthat point, the over-sized tooka took it upon herself to try andclimb into the Twi'lek’s lap, which did not work. Letting out asurprised screech at being stepped on, Lord Akori'ira ratherunceremoniously grabbed at the nexu’s jewel-encrusted collar anddirected her off the of the chair, pushing a hand firmly against theanimal’s rump to prompt her to sit down.
“C'mon,Bacon, you’re acting like a spoiled brat,” she scolded.
Lanahad to hide the curl of her smile with a sip of tea, thoroughlyamused at the scene before her. Here was the Empire’s Wrath (orshould it now be changed to the Alliance’s Wrath, even though itdidn’t have the same menacing ring to it), a woman who was well knownfor her short span of patience, coddling a three hundred pound housecat like a child.
“Sohow exactly did our nefarious pirate associate end up with…”Seeing that Shake n’ Bake (that was simply ridiculous, but whatever, she could do for a laugh) had finally settled down on the floor, lolling a very large head up against the Twi'lek’s calf, she let herwords trail off, and instead finished her sentence with a wave of herwrist in the animal’s general direction. Nexu were not exactly knownfor their friendly natures, and were generally best left alone in thewild.
“Well,to hear him tell it, he’s had Bacon for a long time…sinceshe was just a cub,” she began. The Wrath let an arm hang off overthe arm of the chair and idly stroked at the bristly fur at the topof the animal’s head. “Back when they were on Taris for the firsttime, him and Nox…” she shifted in her seat, her restlessnessgetting the better of her momentarily, “they came across along-dead female, caught in a trap. Her mother…” Bending to theside slightly, she looked down to see that the feline was nowengrossed in the process of washing her two giant-sized front paws.“From what he said, Bacon was half-frozen, three-quartersstarved, completely covered in parasites, and probably wouldn’t havemade it another night on her own.”
Leaningback in her chair, Lana took another sip of her tea, legs idlycrossed in front of her. “She’s still a wild animal though…”
“Ohyes, she has to run. A lot. And hunt. Otherwise, she gets toodifficult to handle.”
“Theycouldn’t possibly have kept her on the ship for long.”
“No,she was on Dromund Kaas, and then when Nik bought the estate onAlderaan, he had her moved there. Plenty of room to run and nobodyfor miles except for herds of deer and nerf to hunt.” She chuckledthrough her nose, her single lavender eye staring off at some distantspot well below the stone floor. “I bet he bought that land just asmuch for caraboose here, as he did for Nox. He’s a sack of mush whenit comes to his girls…don’t let anybody tell you different.” Hergaze came back to focus and she looked Lana right in the eye, a grintugging at the side of her lip. “Don’t tell him I said that, though,” she laughed.
HisGirls. Lana had to hand it to Andronikos, if it wasn’t for hisincessant hounding about Darth Nox’s definitely-not-deaddisappearance, the Alliance would have gotten off to a much differentstart, or perhaps not at all. From the pirate himself, to the Wrathherself…along with the Wrath’s twin sister (who was currently onTython seeking out candidates from the other side of the galaxy), toCytharat, and even Theron Shan…and all of the contacts they broughtwith them…they were all there because of one person who was hiddenaway, unreachable and likely frozen in carbonite. All but dead.
Lanahad worked with Darth Nox for a time, though she felt that she’dnever really gotten to know the woman. Know of her yes, butshe’d never been allowed into the Inner Circle in the same way thatothers had. They’d never fully trusted each other (which shegrudgingly had to admit was probably Theron’s fault, in part).Perhaps it was for the best…someone had to stay objective andpractical about matters. And practicality dictated that one personcould hardly seem worthy of such trouble. Surely they could findsomeone else to put up as a figurehead for their little undergroundoperation.
But,the person she would have chosen to lead, the person who would havekept the Empire together without the need to form a separate faction, was dead. Darth Marr’s death had left the Empire crippled by a powervacuum. And Sith did as Sith always do…they fought amongstthemselves, rather than focusing on the true threat – the EternalEmpire.
Ifthey couldn’t have the man himself leading the vanguard, then theycould at least have the woman he personally groomed to lead. Theloyalty that Darth Nox inspired in those who chose to share theirlives with her…that was what they needed.
“That’snot like you, Beniko…”
“Hmm?”Lana murmured under her breath. “I apologize, Lord Wrath, it justgot me thinking…”
Shaken’ Bake suddenly sat up on her haunches, poised as if she’d heard avery interesting noise off in the distance. She made a snufflingchuffle again, her split hairless tail swishing back and forth on thefloor behind her, then started to lap at the white fingers danglingby her face.
“It’seasy to forget that we weren’t the only ones uprooted by this…turnof events,” she mused. Grimacing, the Twi'lek pulled her fingersaway from the slobber and promptly wiped them dry on the side of thechair. “Nik told me that Nox used to joke around about Baconbeing a total daddy’s girl, but ever since she disappeared, thecaraboose has needed extra attention. It’s been a couple years now,but she still knows something is up.”
Lanaleaned forward to help herself to a second cup of tea, yet anothertug of a smile pulling at her face when she thought for a momentabout the seeming miracle that the table and tea service it borehadn’t gone crashing to the floor from the nexu’s meandering. “Isthat why she’s here with you, then?” she asked with no lack ofcuriosity on how the beast got on with all of the acolytes…or ifthere had been any accidents sinceher arrival.
“WhileNik and Theron are off playing Find the Spy, or Hunt the Spy, orwhatever Spy Stuff they’ve been up to? Yes. For whatever reason, sheseems to like me,” she chuckled. “Who would have thought thosetwo would have ended up thick as thieves?”
Nodoubt it was a surprising turn of events, considering Lana hadbeen present the first time the two men had laid eyes on eachother…with Nox standing in between them waiting for all hell tobreak loose.
If looks could kill…well, for the Force-blind at least.
“Andthe acolytes…there haven’t been any…?”
TheWrath laughed, leaning over to slap-pat Shake n’ Bake’s side again.“They know she’s off-limits,” she responded, shifting in her seatso that she could reach to scratch at the base of her tail, apparently a much-loved rub spot, if the beast’s grumbling purr wasany indicator. “She gets her daily run down in the lowerwilds…harasses the tuk'ata. Drives Lord Renning crazy. And if shetakes a liking to any particular acolyte? Well, those are the ones wesend to you.”
“That’squite an interesting selection process…”
“Isn’tit though?”

Save these 2019 for Shale Directories Seminars
Utica Midstream March 21, 2019 Walsh University North Canton, OH
Upstream PA 2019 April 17, 2019 Penn Stater Conference Center State College, PA
Latest facts and a rumor from the Marcellus, Utica, Permian, Eagle Ford, Bakken and Niobrara Shale Plays
Appalachian Storage Hub Location.  I have heard from different sources that the Appalachian Storage Hub will be located in West Virginia.  The Parsons Corporation was selected by the Appalachian Development Group to evaluate the five locations identified by the Benedum Study.  The two West Virginia locations in the study are located in these counties: one site covers Tyler, Doddridge and Wetzel counties; the other site covers Roane, Jackson, Putnam and Kanawha counties. I’m betting my money on the Roane, Jackson, Putnam and Kanawha counties.  (RUMOR) More Permian Consolidation.   Multi-billion-dollar acquisitions have made headlines this year, as Concho Resources acquired RSP Permian, and Diamondback Energy is about to complete its purchase of Energen Resources. As the Permian’s unconventional shale play matures and shifts into manufacturing mode, experts said companies will need to scale up to continue their success. That’s an assessment agreed upon by panelists at the recent Executive Oil Conference presented by Hart Energy “Consolidation will continue for the next year, year and a half,” said Mike Marziani, executive vice president and chief financial officer, Tall City Exploration III. He said 10 or 15 names could disappear, “not just in the Permian Basin but across the E&P industry.” While he said that could sound like a negative, “those same dynamics offer opportunities for small companies like us” that can take advantage of the non-core assets shed by the larger companies. James Walter, co-chief executive officer of Colgate Energy LLC, said “the Permian Basin has always had an independent mind set. We’ll see the independents regroup and come back.” Chris Atherton, president, EnergyNet, said activist investors appear to be driving at least some activity in the mergers and acquisitions market. “Activist investors are sable rattling with the public companies, particularly Delaware Basin companies, to divest their lesser acreage,” he said. Added Walter, “Companies are starting to recognize the value of high-grading their portfolios.” Marziani said that some acreage doesn’t meet thresholds where they’re worth selling. His company recently launched its third iteration, backed by up to $500 million in equity financing from the private equity firm Warburg Pincus. “Our team is focused on the Permian Basin, east of the Midland Basin to west of the Delaware Basin and everywhere in between,” he said. “We’re dedicated to new play concepts. The first Tall City leased in Howard County, 60 miles from the Wolfcamp play. We say there are still places to explore.” He said with the Permian offering five to seven benches of drilling inventory, there will be opportunities in the churn of acreage as leases turn over because wells weren’t drilled in a timely manner. He said Tall City’s team also “doesn’t shy away from step outs. We’ll take the fairways; we’ll go places that aren’t leased. We also explore three-dimensionally. This basin has scale, and the fact it still has surprises, offers opportunities.” Walter said Colgate got its start in 2015 putting together a three-section block in Reeves County. As companies consolidate, said Atherton, “You have this behemoth of a company with inventory they won’t get to for 30 years. They can spin that off to other companies.” ETP Going to PA Government to Defend Mariner East 2 Service Date. Energy Transfer LP representatives are heading to Pennsylvania’s capital on Thursday for a hearing before utility regulators to defend the company’s plan to put the Sunoco Mariner East 2 natural gas liquids pipe into service by year end. Energy Transfer wants to temporarily connect an existing 1930s-era 12-inch (30.5 centimeter) pipe to the parts of its long-delayed 20-inch Mariner East 2 pipeline that it has already completed so it can start transporting liquids for customers. Those customers have been waiting for more than a year to ship liquids on Mariner East 2. When Energy Transfer first started working on the $2.5 billion project in February 2017, it had planned to put the 350-mile (563-kilometer) pipe into service in the third quarter of 2017. Mariner East 2 and another Energy Transfer project, the Rover natural gas pipe from Ohio to Michigan, were delayed over the past year in part because the projects together racked up more than 800 state and federal permit violations while the company raced to build them. Those opposed to Energy Transfer’s plans for Mariner East 2 asked the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) to stop construction on Mariner East 2 and also stop the company from transporting liquids on the existing Mariner East 1 pipeline. The administrative law judge at the PUC scheduled to hear the case on Thursday is Elizabeth Barnes, the same judge who heard a case earlier this year that sought to stop the Mariner East project. In that case, Judge Barnes ordered Energy Transfer to stop transporting gas on Mariner East 1 and stop work on Mariner East 2 in West Whiteland Township after sinkholes were discovered near the pipeline. In the latest case, seven residents of Delaware and Chester Counties in southeast Pennsylvania argued Energy Transfer did “not provide adequate notice of procedures sufficient to ensure the safety of the public in the event of a leak or rupture.” In response, Energy Transfer spokeswoman Lisa Dillinger said in an email “We do not believe the claim is valid...The integrity of our Mariner East 1 and 2 pipelines has been verified in the last few months” by state and federal regulators. Mariner East transports liquids from the Marcellus and Utica shale fields in western Pennsylvania to customers in the state and elsewhere, including international exports from Energy Transfer’s Marcus Hook complex near Philadelphia. Cyber Security Importance. A hot topic of discussion in companies today is cyber security -- and the energy industry is not immune to all the issues that revolve around cyber security, according to Jim McGlone, chief marketing officer of Virginia-based Kenexis Consulting. Cyber security is a global issue that affects everyone, he said, addressing the audience at the all-day program entitled "Kallanish New Horizons: Appalachian Basin," presented Thursday at the Southpointe Business Park, south of Pittsburgh, presented by Kallanish Energy. “It’s complicated, changing, global and uncertain. Everyone has the problem. It’s a challenge,” McGlone said. “It’s ever-changing and there really isn’t an answer.” There are, he said, lots of "nasty" people in the world who are willing to "mess with you and your company for reasons that often cannot be explained," he said. McGlone, a certified industrial cybersecurity professional, suggested basic steps conference attendees could take to boost their own cyber security, and alternatives they might consider. That includes microprocessor-based switches and other non-hackable safeguards. And changing the password for their in-home router. He also questioned whether it is really necessary to connect everything via computer systems that could be hacked. Winter Gas Markets Rig Higher (Thank you, BTU Analytics) At the end of August 2018, the level of concern about the upcoming winter seemed muted as the December 2018 Henry Hub futures contract traded around $3 despite the fact that US gas storage levels were about 600 Bcf behind the 5-year average at the time. The consensus view could be summarized as new pipeline capacity was coming online in fall 2018 which would allow producers to grow supply to meet winter demand. Fast forward to November 14, 2018 and new pipelines are online (Nexus and Atlantic Sunrise, for example) and production has grown (Appalachia pipeline production receipt flow samples have consistently sustained over 30 plus Bcf/d this week).  But, like the flick of a switch as the winter gas market rips higher, we are in a demand driven winter gas market where the Henry Hub prompt futures is up over $1.30 this week to $4.80 per MMBtu today. Gone is the summer 2018 gas market where pipeline constraints limited supply area growth, while supply area basis was weak and summer demand was met with futures not budging above $3 per MMBtu. In the current market, demand has grown faster than producers can respond with production gains. What has changed in the market going into winter 2018-2019? Supply, demand, and pipe capacity have all grown. As shown below, monthly modeled supply has grown across many supply basins year-over-year, with Appalachia leading the way at 4.0 Bcf/d thanks in part due to new pipe capacity. The challenge is demand has also structurally moved higher. Looking at a demand sample (deliveries off of interstate pipelines) of regional demand by facility type, comparing November 2017 vs 2018, the 4.0 Bcf/d of Appalachian production growth is being soaked up by 3.4 Bcf/d of either Appalachian demand or adjacent regional demand to Appalachia, as shown in green below. The Southeast power, LDC and Atlantic Seaboard LNG (Cove Point) components represent the three largest year-over-year gains. With Transco connecting Appalachia, the Atlantic Seaboard, and the Southeast, we can see below the impact on pipeline flows as winter demand has ramped up. Atlantic Sunrise started service October 6, 2018 and the increased volumes can be seen as flows south at the Virginia-North Carolina border approached 2 Bcf/d. As the recent ramp in demand has started (and note we are only talking about ‘November cold’ here) flows south on Transco have dropped by about 700 Mcf/d. It seems the market finally cares about the 600 plus Bcf storage deficit to the five-year average and how much producers can ramp supply going into winter as the winter 2018-2019 strip is now priced over $4.50 per MMBtu, while the summer strip 2019 is below $2.80 per MMBtu. What does this mean as we roll into the peak winter months of January and February? How much inventory are producers carrying into winter? Important PA Supreme Court Ruling.  Justices to decide whether rule of capture applies to fracking. The Pennsylvania Supreme Court is set to determine whether the rule of capture, which precludes trespass liability for drillers where oil and gas drains from surrounding lands in the course of conventional extraction from an underground pool, applies where shale gas is extracted through hydraulic fracturing. In an apparent case of first impression, the Pennsylvania Superior Court ruled earlier this year that it does not. On Nov. 20, the high court issued a one-page order agreeing to consider a single question on appeal: “Does the rule of capture apply to oil and gas produced from wells that were completed using hydraulic fracturing and preclude trespass liability for allegedly draining oil or gas from under nearby property, where the well is drilled solely on and beneath the driller’s own property and the hydraulic fracturing fluids are injected solely on or beneath the driller’s own property? “The case has drawn heavy amicus interest from industry organizations including the Marcellus Shale Coalition, the American Exploration & Production Council, the Pennsylvania Chamber of Business and Industry, the Pennsylvania Independent Oil & Gas Association, the Independent Petroleum Association of America and the American Petroleum Institute. Real Trouble for Atlantic Coast Pipeline.  The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has suspended a national permit for the Atlantic Coast Pipeline to cross more than 1,500 streams in three states, raising a potential new barrier for construction of the project through Virginia. About half of the 600-mile pipeline would be built in Virginia from West Virginia to North Carolina, but Dominion Energy and its partners are still waiting for federal regulators to allow them to proceed with construction here. The Army Corps’ offices in Norfolk, Wilmington, N.C., and Pittsburgh issued orders late Tuesday to suspend the Nationwide 12 permit’s use for the project’s stream crossings. Dominion spokeswoman Jen Kostyniuk said the company had voluntarily offered to suspend the permit for all three states while attempting to resolve issues from a decision by the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals earlier this month. In that decision, the court issued a temporary stay of the permit for stream and river crossings in West Virginia. ExxonMobil Using Renewables for Electricity in the Permian.  Exxon has inked a 12-year deal with Danish renewable energy company Orsted to buy 500 MW of electricity produced by solar and wind farms to power its oil production in the Permian, Bloomberg reports. Although the terms of the contract remained undisclosed, it is the largest such contract featuring an oil company as a party, Bloomberg new Energy Finance commented. “We frequently evaluate opportunities to diversify our power supply and ensure competitive costs,” Exxon spokeswoman Julie King told Bloomberg in a statement. The company has been the target of a lot of criticism—and lawsuits—regarding its attitude to climate change and renewable energy use. Yet now that solar and wind power is becoming cheaper and demand for the commodity in the Permian is soaring, the time is apparently right for Exxon to start changing. The electricity Exxon will be buying from Orsted will be produced at two farms, one solar and one wind—both which are still under construction. The Sage Draw wind farm will be completed in 2020 and the Permian Solar farm will be launched in 2021. The Permian is the shale play where production is growing the fastest and with it demand for electricity is growing, too. Bloomberg reports that just one part of the Permian, the Delaware Basin, consumed 350 MW of electricity this summer, which was triple the consumption three years ago. This amount is enough to power almost 300,000 households and it is set for another triple increase, according to utilities, in the next four years. New FERC Commissioner.   A Senate committee has voted to confirm fossil fuel advocate and Department of Energy staffer Bernard McNamee to a vacancy on the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, Kallanish Energy reports. On Tuesday, the Energy and Natural Resources Committee voted 13-10 to approve McNamee’s nomination by President Trump. McNamee’s nomination was approved by the committee’s 12 Republicans plus U.S. Sen. Joe Manchin, Democrat-West Virginia. The nomination now goes to the full U.S. Senate and a vote is possible before Dec. 31. McNamee is a former anti-renewables activist who did pro-fossil fuel work at the Texas Public Policy Foundation, a conservative think tank that has opposed wind power projects. He also worked on the Department of Energy’s controversial coal and nuclear bailout plan that was rejected by Ferc last January. That plan has strong support within the Trump administration. OH EPA Seeking Input on PTTGC Permit.  The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency is seeking public input on a second permit for the proposed ethane cracker plant at Shadyside in Eastern Ohio’s Belmont County. The agency will hold a public information session Dec. 12 on draft modifications to the wastewater discharge permit for the $6 billion petrochemical complex proposed by PTT Global Chemical America. A public hearing will immediately follow the first session that night. The Epa said the modifications to the wastewater permit would decrease the levels of pollutants released into the Ohio River, change the locations from which storm water will be discharged and modifies the limits at an internal monitoring station that does not directly discharge to the surface water. The Ohio draft permit is available for public review at the agency’s district office in Logan, Ohio. The Epa will accept comment on the draft wastewater permit through Dec. 19. They may be submitted at [email protected]. Thailand-based PTT has not yet made a final investment decision on the Ohio ethane cracker. It is also seeking an air permit from the Ohio Epa. A public hearing was held last night (Nov. 27) in Shadyside. The plant, if approved and if built, annually would produce 1.5 million tons of ethylene and other materials. The plant would use six ethane cracking furnaces and manufacture ethylene, high-quality polyethylene and linear low-density polyethylene. The EPA will accept public comment on the draft air permit through Dec. 11. Comments may be sent to [email protected]. Earlier this year, PTT approved an agreement with a subsidiary of Daelim Industrial Co. Ltd., a leading Korean construction and chemical company, to conduct a feasibility study and to secure funding for the Ohio petrochemical complex. PTT Global Chemical America is a subsidiary of PTT Global Chemical, Thailand’s largest integrated petrochemical company. Royal Dutch Shell is building a similar ethane cracker in Beaver County, Pennsylvania, northwest of Pittsburgh. The plants would take ethane from drilling in the Utica and Marcellus shales and turn it into ethylene and polyethylene for making plastics. Permian NatGas at $0.  Permian natural gas markets felt a cold shiver this week, but not a meteorologically induced one of the type running through other regional markets. Gas marketers braced as prices for Permian natural gas skidded toward a new threshold: zero! That's not basis, but absolute price, a long-anticipated possibility that became a reality on Monday. The cause is very likely driven, in our view, by continued associated gas production growth poured into a region that won't see new greenfield pipeline capacity for at least 10 months. What happens next isn't clear, but expect Permian gas market participants to be a little excitable or jittery the next few months. In today's blog, "Keep Breathin' - Sky Falls For Permian Gas Prices on Cyber Monday," Jason Ferguson reviews this latest complication for Permian natural gas markets. Mountain Valley Completion Still 4th Qtr. 2019.  EQM Midstream Partners LP said on Wednesday it still expected to complete the $4.6 billion Mountain Valley natural gas pipeline from West Virginia to Virginia in the fourth quarter of 2019 despite a legal opinion explaining why an appeals court vacated a water permit for the project. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit issued the opinion late Tuesday explaining why it sided with environmental groups in October and decided to vacate the so-called Nationwide Permit 12 that allows the pipeline to cross rivers in West Virginia. In the opinion, the court said the project’s proposed construction methods violated a special condition put forward by West Virginia, requiring stream crossings to be completed within 72 hours. The court also pointed to another special condition requiring projects to obtain state water quality certification for pipelines bigger than 36 inches (91.4 centimeters) in diameter. Mountain Valley has a 42-inch pipeline. West Virginia is in the process of modifying the special conditions to allow Mountain Valley and another gas pipe, Dominion Energy Inc.’s Atlantic Coast, to move forward. Analysts at Height Capital Markets in Washington said they expect West Virginia’s Department of Environmental Protection to issue the modified special conditions by the end of year, allowing Mountain Valley to seek a new permit from the Army Corps.
