Next Time
Peter Parker x Rogers!reader
Summary: You and Peter make plans for "next time", not realizing just how quickly they would happen.
Warnings: none! Just fluff :)
Word Count: 3504
a/n: My first real Peter fic! So this is a sort of sequel to 16 hours isn't enough. I was just feeling inspired, but this focuses more on the readers relationship with Peter! You don't have to read the first part to understand this one.
Masterlist
Tumblr media
“I’m gonna go out with Ned and MJ tomorrow, celebrate our day off. Do you wanna come?” You and Peter had just gotten back from patrolling, and it was already 2 am. He's hopeful that you'll want to spend more time with him, but given the guilty look on your face, he doesn't think your answer is going to be positive.
“I would love to, but I need to sleep for at least 15 hours. Maybe I can come next time? If we ever have another day off.” He can't help but laugh, completely understanding the feeling.
“Trust me, I get it. Next time works. Add in a 16th hour, you deserve it.” He smiles at your yawn, thinking about how cute you look when you're tired.
“Thanks Pete.” You both laugh when you yawn again. “16 hours might not even be enough.” He relishes in the feeling of your hug before heading to the elevator.
He decided to head back to Queens tonight so he could sleep in a little longer. He can definitely relate to your need for sleep, being a teenage avenger is an exhausting schedule to maintain.
-
The next morning, nearly afternoon, Peter finally gets out of bed. Having slept for 8 hours, he definitely understands what you were saying last night.
Still, he's a little bummed he won't be seeing you today. He gets ready anyway, texting MJ and Ned. The three of them decide to go to Delmar's for lunch and wing it from there.
After ordering their usual sandwiches, the trio heads outside to eat.
"I thought you were going to invite Y/N?" MJ starts the interrogation as soon as the three have sat down.
"I did, but she was exhausted, said she was going to sleep all day." He's bummed again at not seeing you, but he still understands.
"Oh man, I'm sorry dude." Ned responds, feeling bad for his friend.
"It's fine. I get it. I definitely could have slept for another 8 hours." Peter shrugs it off, not wanting to dwell on it.
"What should we do now?" Ned poses the question, looking at his friends.
"I don't know. Something fun though, I never have free time anymore." Peter complains, although his friends can tell he's mostly joking.
"I haven't been to Coney Island in a while. What if we go ride all the rides and make fun of the scaredy cats?" MJ suggests.
The two boys agree, finishing up their sandwiches and heading to the subway.
After a horrendous 2 hour subway ride, the three teens finally arrive at the theme park.
MJ drags the two of them from ride to ride, excitedly- but subtly- pointing out the strangers who look like they're going to puke.
Peter does his best not to think about you while he's there. He can't help but remember all the times you told him about going to Coney Island with your dad though. You absolutely loved your father daughter days.
"Dude, isn't that Y/N?" Ned smacks Peter on the shoulder, pointing toward the line for the slingshot ride.
"I thought you said she was sleeping all day..." MJ worriedly looks toward where Ned's pointing.
"Um, yeah. That's what she told me. It probably just looks like her." Peter doesn't want to turn around. He doesn't want to know.
"No, dude. That's definitely her." Ned keeps gawking, trying to get Peter to look. "Why is she with Captain America?"
Peter perks up at that, understanding what must have happened. "He's here too? He was supposed to be on a mission until Tuesday!" He finally turns around, easily spotting you and your dad in line for the ride.
He can't help but stare at how beautiful you are. His smile grows as he takes in your tired, but excited expression.
"Um, care to share your findings with the group?" MJ shoves his arm, trying to get his attention back.
"Huh? Oh! Right." Peter laughs at himself. "He wasn't supposed to be back until Tuesday, they must be having a father daughter day. She told me how they used to always go to Coney Island as an escape from the superhero life." Peter grins, remembering the first time you told him about missing spending time with your dad. He's happy you're finally getting just that.
"What?! Why didn't you tell us she was Captain America's daughter? That's so cool!" Ned finally turns back, staring wide eyed at Peter.
"I introduced her as Y/N Rogers... I kind of thought it was implied." Peter looks back and forth between his friends. It's clear MJ knew, but Ned is genuinely surprised.
"I'm honestly not even surprised you didn't put that together Ned." MJ shakes her head at the boy. "Now, what should we get for dinner?"
"Ohh, hot dogs! It's a Coney Island classic!" And just like that Ned's attention has been diverted. Peter can't help but steal one more glance at you.
You're clearly having a good time. It looks like you've finally convinced Steve to go on the slingshot if the cautious smile on his face means anything. He watches as you jump up and down, hugging your dad with a big bear hug.
He smiles at how happy you are before turning and following his friends to the hot dog stand.
-
Peter didn't see you at all on Sunday. Normally, the two of you would at least do some homework together, but you hadn't responded to any of his texts.
Around 10 pm, his phone finally dings indicating two new texts from you.
I'm so sorry! I slept so late today, I panicked and forced Tony to help me with my homework so I could get it done faster.
Did you get yours done? I can try to help you :)
haha, I thought you were going to sleep all day yesterday? And, yeah I got mine done. Thanks for the offer though! 😄
I was definitely planning to sleep all day. My dad got back early and surprised me with a father daughter day though. I didn't have the heart to tell him I was exhausted. 😴 I powered through a full day of hot dogs, amusement park rides, McDonald's, and a movie 😊
He was about to respond when another text came through.
Okay, admittedly I fell asleep halfway through the movie... but still
Honestly, Peter was glad to hear the confirmation that you hadn't lied to him. He didn't think you would, but it still calmed any unnecessary anxiety to know exactly what happened.
Well, I'm glad you got caught up on sleep today then. I actually was at Coney Island on Saturday too, what a crazy coincidence 😂
Peter...
Did you see me at Coney Island?
Damn, you know me too well... I did, but I saw your dad too so I figured you were having a father daughter day!
I just didn't want to sound creepy... 😳
Not creepy, just a coincidence...
we should go together sometime 😊
Peter nearly dropped his phone when the second text came through. Were you asking him out? Was it just a friend thing? Shit, he really needs to respond.
For sure!
Peter can't help but think he sounds like an idiot. "For sure?" Who says that?!
I mean, that would be great. Our next day off?
For sure! 😉
Oh god. He was definitely in for it now.
-
Yours and Peters next day off came a lot faster than he expected. Normally, you would go months without a whole day off.
Maybe Steve was worried about you, or maybe it was Tony. Maybe it was just a lack of bad guys, but not even two weeks later you were both given a day off.
"So, do you still want to go to Coney Island?" You were nervous to be asking Peter about your conversation a few weeks ago, but you wanted to spend time with him.
"Yeah, definitely! You'll have to show me all your favorite rides." he smiled, glad you brought it up so he wouldn't have to. "I can pick you up tomorrow at 8?"
"Sounds perfect. Not too early, but still early enough to get there before the crowds." You smiled. If he wanted to pick you up, maybe he thought it was a date...
You hugged him, lingering a little more than usual in his arms. "i'll see you tomorrow, Pete."
He blushed at the nickname, as usual. "Goodnight, Y/N."
The two of you went your separate ways, each freaking out about what the other was thinking.
-
The next morning, you were pacing around the kitchen in the compound, freaking out. You didn't want to make a fool out of yourself on this maybe date.
"Morning, sweet pea. What's on your mind?" Your dad walked in, getting ready to make his post-run smoothie. One look at your frazzled pacing, and he knew something was up.
You froze instantly. You hadn't even thought about telling your dad. "Oh, um... nothing?" You winced, knowing hoe unconving that was.
Steve laughed, even more intrigued now. "Come on, you can tell me. What's going on?"
"Well... I maybe have a date today..." You said the words slowly, unsure of how he would react. You hadn't talked to your dad much about dating.
His first question surprised you. "Maybe?"
You breathed a sigh of relief, glad he didn't immediately freak out. Unbeknownst to you, on the inside he was screaming.
"Well, yeah. I don't know if it's a date or not." Your nerves were back, displayed by your continued pacing.
"Do you want it to be a date?" Again, his question was calmer than you anticipated.
You didn't even need to think about your answer. "I do, but I don't know if he does. That's why it's a maybe."
He nodded, seeming to think about your predicament. "Nat! Can you come in here for a minute?"
You froze again, unprepared to share your maybe date plans with another Avenger.
"What's up, Cap?" She smiled at you, clearly having an idea as to what this could be about.
"Y/N maybe has a date." Her smile grew, clearly her idea was on the right track.
"Maybe, huh?" She turned back to Steve, trying to figure out why exactly he needed her help.
"Yeah, so can you help us figure out if it's an actual date?" You smiled at your dad, surprised but thankful for his actions.
"Of course! Tell me everything, how did you plan it?" She sat down at the island, listening intently as you explained your text conversation with Peter that day, leaving out only the fact that it was Peter.
You went on to describe the conversation you had with him yesterday, again leaving Peter's name out of it.
"Well, from what you described I can definitely see why you're confused. You've been friends with this guy for awhile?"
You nodded, even more nervous to hear your confusion is justified. She nodded to herself, seemingly pondering all the information that was presented.
"I think it's a date." You froze for the third time, unsure if that made your nerves better or worse. "But, you'll know for sure when he picks you up. If it's just a friend thing, he'll probably wear what he always wears. If he thinks it's a date, he'll probably dress a little nicer. He'll want to impress you." She winked as she rose from her chair.
"Thank you!" You rushed around the island, pulling her into a hug. Now you've at least got a plan as to how to figure out if this is a date or not.
"No problem, kiddo. I'm happy to help with girl stuff." She winked at Steve, heading out of the kitchen.
"So, you gonna tell me who this maybe date is with?" There's the questions you were expecting.
Before you could even think of a response, the doorbell rang. "Gotta go, love you!" You planted a kiss on his cheek, rushing out of the room before he could question you.
As you ran out, Tony wondered in just in time to hear Steve ask "Friday, who just rang the doorbell?"
"Mr. Parker, Captain."
Steve nearly choked on his smoothie.
"What's that about, Capsicle?" Tony asked, taken by surprise at the man's reaction.
"Peter Parker is taking my daughter on a maybe date." He said it with a sense of caution, unsure how to feel. To his joy, Tony nearly choked on the water he was drinking.
-
You were nervous to open the door, but excited to test Nat's theory. It made sense when you thought about it. you yourself dressed a little nicer than normal for your day with Peter.
Instead of jeans and a tee, you opted for a colorful t-shirt dress. It was still casual, and comfortable enough for a day at a theme park, but nicer than normal.
You flung the door open, immediately pulling Peter in for a hug. "Hi!" You were slightly out of breath from running from the kitchen, but Peter didn't say anything about it.
"You look really pretty." Peter blushed, squeezing you tightly.
"Thank you. You look very handsome." You couldn't stop the smile from growing as you took in his outfit. He had on a pair of khakis and a long sleeve button up. He still looked casual, but definitely nicer than normal.
"Thanks. You ready to go?" He held his arm out when you nodded, guiding you to the car when you took it.
You didn't know what to expect on the car ride, so you were pleasantly surprised when Peter put on some music. A few songs in, you recognized it as a playlist you made him of your favorite songs. Your heart melted a bit at the realization.
When you arrived at the park, Peter rushed to open your door for you. It was a tradition you never understood, but you blushed anyway, accepting his hand as you rose from the seat.
"What do you want to do first?" He lead you toward the entrance with a hand on your back, again taking you by surprise.
"Oh, well it makes the most sense to do the big rides first, before the lines get too long!" You were instantly in planning mode, creating the best route for you to get on all the best rides.
You eagerly pulled Peter through the park, holding his hand to guide him. It wasn't uncommon for you to grab his hand and drag him somewhere, but you felt a little bolder today. When you got to the first line, you intertwined your fingers, continuing to hold his hand as you waited.
The next few rides went the same way. You pulled Peter from one roller coaster to the next until lunch time.
"Do you want to get some lunch?" He intertwined your hands this time, causing butterflies to erupt in your stomach.
"Sure! Let's go to Paul's Daughter, yeah? Dad and I had hot dogs last time." You scrunched up your face at the idea of eating more hot dogs.
Peter couldn't stop the smile from growing on his face as he took in your adorable expression. "I had hot dogs last time too."
The two of you just stared at each other smiling until someone bumped into trying to get around the boardwalk.
You laughed, squeezing his hand. The two of you strolled down the boardwalk until you made it to the restaurant.
You happily ate your burgers and fries, talking about anything and everything that came up.
After eating, you continued to walk along the boardwalk, giving yourself time to digest before doing anything else.
"Did you want to go to the arcade area?" Peter questioned, trying to make sure you did everything you wanted.
"Sure, we can play some games! Fair warning, I've had lots of practice. You can't get mad if I beat you." You couldn't help but tease him a bit.
"Darling, you wound me." He playfully slaps his hands over his heart, giving you his best puppy eyes. "Did you forget about my spidey senses?"
You laugh alongside him at his antics, genuinely having fun with him. All of your earlier nerves seem so unnecessary as you stare at his smiling face.
"Yeah, yeah spider boy. Let's see what you can do."
Unsurprisingly, Peter beat you at nearly every game you played. You might be a force to reckon with in hand to hand, but when it comes to throwing rings at bottles, he's got you beat.
True to every rom com ever made, Peter wins you a giant blue elephant. You're not even annoyed at losing, having experienced it over and over with your dad.
It's going on 8 pm when you finally finish playing games. You gave most of the prizes to little kids you passed, only keeping the elephant. You wanted something to remember this day by.
"Is there anything else you want to do?" You smile at Peter, letting him decide your final activity.
"I've always wanted to ride the ferris wheel..." He answered honestly, leaving out the part about kissing you at the top.
"Then ride the ferris wheel we shall!" He laughed at your over the top expression, smiling as you again dragged him by his hand.
The two of you slid into the last open seat on the ride, sitting next to each other with the elephant across from you.
You gleefully looked out over the park, smiling and pointing at all the lights.
"We never stayed this late when I was younger. I was always so tired, so we'd leave and get McDonald's on the way home." You smiled as you remembered countless father daughter days. "The lights look so pretty."
"Absolutely breathtaking." Peter whispers, not having taken his eyes of you for the duration of the ride. When the ride stops, the two of you are at the very top.
A slight breeze cause you to shiver, leaning into Peter for warmth. He puts his arm around your shoulders, pulling you closer.
His other hand reaches up to brush your hair out of your face, and just like that you can barely breathe. His hand lingers on your cheek, eyes roaming your face.
You both lean a little closer, ready to take this next step when the ride jerks, causing each of you to jump back in shock. You lean your head on his shoulder for the duration of the ride, cursing the bad timing.
When you get off the ferris wheel, Peter guides you back to the car. Again, you're half expecting the ride to be a little awkward, but Peter doesn't let it happen.
The two of you continue talking about life, reminiscing on stories from when you were younger. Before you know it, your back at the compound.
Again, Peter gets out to open your door, taking the chivalry thing very seriously. He walks you to the door, painfully aware of your almost kiss on the ferris wheel.
"I had a really good time today, Pete. Thank you." You lean in, kissing him ever so lightly on the cheek.
You purposefully linger close to his face, willing him to give you a sign that he's on the same page.
His hands frame your face as he pulls you in for a kiss. You melt into each other, eagerly reciprocating the kiss until you need to pull away for air.
"Goodnight, Y/N." Peter whispers, his face still only millimeters from yours.
"Goodnight, Peter." You whisper back, planting a final quick kiss on his lips before going inside.
You lean back against the door, relishing in the feeling of his lips on yours. Eventually, you walk through the compound, heading for the elevators.
Unsurprisingly, Natasha, Tony, and your dad are all sitting in the common room you have to pass through.
Before you can ever utter a greeting, your dad is talking. "Parker, really?" Your not surprised that he figured it out, he probably just asked Friday. You are surprised at his tone of voice though. It almost sounds approving.
"Yeah..." Your answer is cautious, unsure of where this is going.
"I'm happy for you sweet pea, he's a good kid." You hug your dad, glad to know he's not going to ban you from seeing him. You wouldn't have expected him to react so drastically, but you’re still surprised by the calmness.
"Thanks, dad. I love you."
"I love you too." He rubs your back until you pull away, ready to head to bed.
Before you can leave the room, Nat asks the question all three adults have been wondering. "What's the verdict? Date or not a date?"
You were nearly out of the room when she asked, looking over your shoulder when you reach the doorway. Your face betrays the answer before your voice does, wearing a small, but loving smile. You involuntarily squeeze the elephant closer, hugging the giant stuffed animal closer to your body.
"Definitely a date."

Your hand reaches for the other side of your bed, feeling the soft silk of the cold pillow lying next to you, lonely, abandoned. It doesn’t even smell like him in here anymore. When did he come by the last time? You can’t remember.

“Good morning, beautiful.” Chan opened the door to your bedroom, croissants and coffee in his hands. The soft sun rays of the morning sun hit your face, tickling you awake. You give him a sleepy smile, pulling your blanket closer, trying to keep the comfortable warmth of your bed. “Good morning, love. What you got there?” you ask, making Chan smile shyly. “Breakfast. I went to the small bakery around the corner and prepared some coffee. Want to eat here or in the kitchen?” he replies. “No. Cuddles, please.” you reach out for your boyfriend, making him laugh lovingly at your cute antics. “My baby wants some cuddles, huh? Who am I to say no to you?” he cooed at you before slipping under your blanket, pulling your warm body close to him. “How late is it, Channie? Don’t you have to go to the studio?” you ask, nuzzling your face into the crook of his neck, inhaling his scent. “No~” he whines, snuggling even closer to you, “I don’t want to leave. Want to stay here.” You pat his soft hair, giving him a peck on his cheek. “I’ll wait for you here. Come on, I’m sure the other members are waiting. Get out, baby.” you push him out of your embrace. “Fine, I’ll see you later then, Y/N. I love you.” he kissed you goodbye. “I love you, too.”

You rub the tiredness out of your eyes as a big sigh leaves your lips. You pick up your phone and hover above your latest chats. No new messages. You tap on Chan’s chat to read your messages once again.

Y/N [Tuesday, 5:20 PM]: Are you coming over today? I can order take-out for us Y/N [Tuesday, 9:31 PM]: Good night, baby. I love you. Y/N [Wednesday, 8:30 AM]: Hey, are you busy today? I want to see you. Y/N [Yesterday, 10:33 PM]: I miss you [Read: Yesterday. 10:40 PM]

Your phone locks with a quiet click. You get up and drag yourself into the kitchen. The cold air hits your bare arms and you hurriedly close the open window, shielding you from the cold winter air. You turn on the stove to make some of Chan’s favourite food, which is honestly just anything edible. He’s just too busy, you tell yourself. You need to get his mind off of things, take him into your arms. You throw some meat into the frying pan, trying to push the sting in your chest away.
      ┈     ┈     ┈     ⋞ 〈 ⏣ 〉 ⋟     ┈     ┈     ┈
“Oh? What’re you doing there?” Chan asks, wrapping his arms around you from behind, putting his chin on your shoulder to get a better look. “Food. You basically snacked on everything you could find in my apartment for the last 30 minutes, so I figured my baby is hungry.” you turned around to press a soft kiss to his cheek. “Wow, are you trying to make me propose to you? It smells great, my baby is a great cook.” he praised you, drawing figure eights into the sides of your hip. “Chan, I’m boiling water. What are you smelling that’s so delicious, huh?” you laughed. “I was trying to be cute, okay? Do you need help with anything? Need me to chop some vegetables or something?” he took one of the big knives from your kitchen counter, rolling up his sleeves to showcase how ready he was for this. “I would love that. But maybe try using the right knife.” you said, handing him the smaller knife you used to cut vegetables. Chan took the knife with an embarrassed smile on his face, taking out some scallions to get to work. “As you wish, chef.”  “Wait! You need to wash them, first!”
      ┈     ┈     ┈     ⋞ 〈 ⏣ 〉 ⋟     ┈     ┈     ┈
You put the food into a container, packing it up neatly, putting on something warm to head out for the studio. You took small steps towards your destination, dreading your arrival. You were dying to see your boyfriend, hug him, kiss him. You didn’t know what it was, but something in you told you to go back home. Your body seemed to become heavier with every step you took towards the building, your stomach feeling as if you swallowed a ton of stones. You tighten the grip on the little package you prepared for Chan, trying to shake off these weird feelings.  The employee greeted you with a warm smile, leading you to the elevator that would bring you to the studio. You pressed the button to the right floor, worrying your lip between your teeth. Why did you feel so nervous about this? You used to come by almost every day, hanging out with the members, keeping Chan company while he was producing. Why did you feel so out of place now? You stood in front of the door, contemplating if you should knock or just leave again.
      ┈     ┈     ┈     ⋞ 〈 ⏣ 〉 ⋟     ┈     ┈     ┈
“Hey, guys! Missed me?” you asked. Chan and the rest of 3Racha were all hunched over the computer, trying to compose some new songs. “Y/N! Hey, of course we missed you. Chan is hiding you too much from us, so selfish.” Changbin shouted dramatically, jogging over to you.”What are you talking about, Bin? She’s here all the time. You just saw her two days ago! Hey, baby.” Chan waved at you cutely, puffing out his cheeks at Changbin’s accusations. “Hey, I missed you.” you walked over to him, pressing a small kiss to his lips, your eyes crinkling from the smile that appeared on your face the second you saw him. Chan felt the same way, smiling into the kiss, enjoying your presence around him. It was like this every time. You both lighted up each others world, all the worries of a stressful day subsiding as soon as you shared something as simple as a kiss.  “Ew, get a room. Why do my innocent eyes have to see this every day?” Jisung complained, throwing a pillow at Chan and you, making you giggle. “You’re just jealous, Han. Get off my dick and get a girlfriend instead.” Chan teased him, earning an exaggerated sigh from Jisung. “I’m not jealous! I’m just not a fan of your PDA.” he explained, making Changbin laugh. “What’s so funny, midget?” he narrowed his eyes at the smaller boy. “You’re the king of PDA, you don’t even need a relationship for that. You really should get a girlfriend, squirrel boy.” he replied, making Jisung pout. “You all love my cuddles! Don’t even try to deny it, right Y/N?” he looked at you, eyes pleading for you to back him up. “Of course, Sungie. We all love your cuddles.” you reassured him before turning your attention back to Chan. “Anyways, are you hungry? I prepared a little something.” you said, raising the package you prepared earlier. “Alright, now I am jealous.” Changbin said, looking at the big box of delicacies you placed in front of your boyfriend. Chan’s eyes lit up, giving you a little peck on the lips.
“Thank you baby, I’m the luckiest guy in the world.”
      ┈     ┈     ┈     ⋞ 〈 ⏣ 〉 ⋟     ┈     ┈     ┈
“Hey” you said quietly, averting your gaze to the floor you were standing on. Chan didn’t even turn around to look at you. “What are you doing here?” he asked, too focused on his computer screen to pay any attention to you. “You haven’t come around for a while. I missed you.” you said, hope spilling from your voice. “Yeah, I noticed that. I’m busy though, could you come back another time? Thanks.” he replied coldly, his tone making you flinch. “Ah, I see..” you said, taking a few steps closer to him. “You’re working too much, baby. You should take a little break, I made some food for y-” “Y/N, I said I’m busy, is that so hard to understand?” he cut you off, turning around to look at you. “I-I know but, I thought-” you stammered, feeling intimidated by the tension in the room. “Yeah? Well, you should stop thinking so much then. Just leave me alone for once, you’re so goddamn clingy, it’s annoying.” he went on, not even noticing how your eyes got watery. “I understand.” you sniffled, trying to compose yourself. “I’ll leave you to your work then.” you said with a strained voice, putting the box of food down on the table before scurrying out of the studio.  As the door clicked shut behind you, you leaned against the wall, letting out the tears you tried to hold back oh so desperately. Your chest got heavier with every breath you took. You just wanted to disappear right then and there.  Chan got up from his chair slowly, taking the box you left in his hands. He felt the soft fabric you wrapped around it, a big sigh leaving his lips.  “I fucked up.” he said, quietly, taking out his phone.
      ┈     ┈     ┈     ⋞ 〈 ⏣ 〉 ⋟     ┈     ┈     ┈
You were sitting on a bench in one of the busy streets, looking up at the sky. The stars twinkled above you, lighting up the pitch black night sky. “Hey, baby, I’m back. Are you cold?” Chan asked, holding two cups of coffee in his hands. “Hey. Yes, a bit. Thank you.” you took one of the cups, pressing it to your cold cheek. Chan sat down beside you, pressing a light kiss to your hair. “It’s warmer now that we’re together, right?” he said, putting one of his arms around you. “Wow, cheesy.” you replied, giggling, making Chan look at the floor, smiling shyly. “Maybe, but I can’t help it. You make me say cheesy things.” “How so?” you looked at him, leaning into his touch. “I don’t know. When I’m with you I’m so happy, I can’t help saying this weird stuff. I guess I just really fell for you.” he replied, looking into your eyes, making you blush. “I guess that makes two of us.” you whispered to yourself. “I hope all of this never passes.” you said, looking at Chan softly.  “It won’t. I will love you forever, I promise.”
      ┈     ┈     ┈     ⋞ 〈 ⏣ 〉 ⋟     ┈     ┈     ┈
You sat down on the bench, holding a cup of coffee in your hands. The coldness seeped into your body, making you feel numb. You took a small sip of your coffee, wincing at the bitterness of it. Your phone was buzzing for a while now, demanding for you to take it out of your pocket.

Channie~ [8:40 PM]: i’m gonna wait in front of your apartment until you talk to me Y/N [8:41 PM]: no, leave Channie~ [8:42 PM]: no, we need to talk Y/N [8:44 PM]: i have nothing to say to you Channie~ [8:45 PM]: then listen to me! Y/N [8:48 PM]: i don’t want to, not now Channie~ [8:48 PM]: tomorrow then? at the café? please. Y/N [8:55 PM]: fine. leave.
━━━━━━━━━ ▼ ━━━━━━━━━
The way to your apartment didn’t take you long. You stood in front of your door, still smelling Chan’s perfume, his presence still lingering in the air. You pull the blanket over your body, pushing your face into your pillow, trying to silence your crying. Was this your fault? Did you ask for too much? Did you make him turn into what he had become over the past years? Maybe your love just wasn’t enough. Maybe you weren’t enough for him to keep loving you. Maybe he never really loved you. Your eyes were burning from the amount of tears that poured out of them. Every breath you took hurt, feeling as if your lungs would rip at any given second. After what felt like hours in this position, your tears finally stopped. You were completely drained, exhausted, tired.
The sun harshly shines in your face, making you flinch away from it. You got up and looked at yourself in the mirror. You looked like shit. Your eyes were red and puffy from crying, your hair was a mess, your skin looked pale and dead. You put your hair in a loose bun and wrapped yourself in a few layers of clothes, but you didn’t stop shivering. The coldness wouldn’t leave your body.
You arrived at the almost empty café not too long after, squeezing yourself into one of the empty booths. You absentmindedly flipped through the menu, ordering a coffee without even looking up at the waiter. It was as if you were on autopilot, not paying attention to any of your surroundings, until you heard the soft ringing of the doorbell.
      ┈     ┈     ┈     ⋞ 〈 ⏣ 〉 ⋟     ┈     ┈     ┈
You were sitting at one of the tables, fixing your hair excitedly. It was your second date with Chan, and you couldn’t wait to finally see him. Him being a little late only added onto your nervousness until you heard someone running through the door, huffing for air. “Hey, Y/N! I’m sorry for being late. Did I make you wait for a long time?” he said breathlessly. His cheeks were red, be it from running so fast, the cold air outside, or because you looked stunning in the soft morning light. “Don’t worry about it, I didn’t wait that long.” you giggled. “But are you going to keep standing there or will you sit down with me?” you asked, looking up at Chan, who was still trying to catch his breath. “Oh, I- sure.” he laughed, taking the seat across from you. “You look beautiful, Y/N.” he said, his face glowing with happiness. “Thank you, you look.. a little short on air?” you laughed, making him grin sheepishly. “Sorry, I just got out of the studio. It won’t happen again, I promise.” he explained, taking your hand in his. His touch sent waves of electricity through your whole body. The two of you would often go to this café from this day on, almost making it your own little morning ritual.
      ┈     ┈     ┈     ⋞ 〈 ⏣ 〉 ⋟     ┈     ┈     ┈
“Y/N?” You snapped out of your daze, looking up to find Chan. His appearance resembled your own, his eyes red, his voice raspy from crying. You acknowledged his presence with a small nod of your head, gesturing for him to sit down. “First of all, I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have said this stuff. I didn’t mean one bit of it, I’m such an idiot, honestly. You’re not annoying, please forgive me one more time. I love you.” he said, his hands reaching for yours, trying to look into your eyes. “Is that all?” you asked, moving your hands away from his. His eyes filled with worry and fear, confused by your reaction. “Yes? I mean it. I really do, Y/N.” he said, his hands still reaching out for you. “No, you don’t.” you say, coldly. “The problem is not what you said yesterday. It’s not just ‘the past few weeks’. I do believe that you love me, Chan. I really do. And I really love you, too. Even after all this, I still love you.” You felt like crying, but your eyes refused to spill more tears. You were empty. “But we can’t go on like this. I can’t go on like this. This isn’t the first time you pushed me away, and you know it. It’s not the first time you discarded me like trash. And maybe you’re right, maybe I’m too clingy.” you explained calmly, folding your hands. “No. No, this isn’t right. This isn’t what I wanted! Y/N, please, listen to me.” He sounded desperate. His eyes teared up, the pain in his throat intensifying. “Chan, please.” you looked up at him, your eyes laced with pain. “I can’t do this anymore. It hurts too much.” “But you love me! And I love you. Please, don’t do this. We can work through this, together.” he rambled, his tears finally flowing down his cheeks. Seeing him like this hurt. Every tear that fell from his eyes felt like a dagger to your heart. But this was for the best. This had to stop. “Let’s break up, Chan.” you said, your voice finally cracking. His sobs came to an end, his head hanging low. “Please.” he said, his voice merely above a whisper, “Please don’t leave me. I will change, I promise. I’ll do anything.” “I’m sorry.” you said, watching his tears fall onto the table before leaving.

tiny swap part three: gretchen and janis part one , part two
Monday, 7:10 am
Janis crossed her arms, blowing a raspberry to Damian.
Her friend, obviously, did not seem to take this as a serious insult as he chuckled, turning is attention elsewhere. "Okay, Jan."
They all shared a first period, one that Janis normally slept through with Damian.
But she was not with Damian and there would definitely be no sleeping since Gretchen sat in the very front row.
Fucking hell.
Damian said goodbye to the group as he made his way to the back and Janis frowned, wanting nothing more than to go with him.
Nothing against Gretchen.
Just-
She trusted Damian more.
A lot more.
Gretchen sat down and Janis allowed herself to be placed on the table, mindful of Damian's warnings earlier.
Just one week.
Tuesday, 7 am
Walking into school on Gretchen's shoulder felt new. Even in middle school, she would be with Karen.
Gretchen's right shoulder was reserved for Regina George and Regina George only.
Yet here she sat.
Janis threw Regina and peace sign for good measures and laughed as the girl returned a middle finger.
No real feelings hurt, Janis knew that.
Even Shane Omen didn't seem to know what to think of it as they passed him in the hall.
That was real power.
Janis didn't care for ruling the school.
But if sitting on Gretchen's shoulder as she and Karen walked the halls was all it took to stop getting harassed, she would have done this long ago.
Gretchen actually wasn't bad at the whole walking with a tiny on her shoulder. She had definitely improved since middle school at least.
The giant stopped at her locker, slipping books in while talking with Karen- something about boys.
Gross.
Janis gave no useful commentary to the conversation. The plastics didn't expect her too.
Maybe this week wouldn't be the most god awful thing.
Wednesday, 8:56 am
Janis frowned at her phone.
Regina was asking if she and Aaron wanted to stay after school just to talk. Call it English help.
Well, the nickname didn't make sense anymore since their giants knew what it entailed but, sure, Janis will humor her.
"Hey, Gretchen?"
The giant looked up from her school work.
"I got after school help today. Can you give me a ride?"
Gretchen sighed knowingly. "I haven't dropped you yet, dude. What could you have to whine about."
"Hey!"
Gretchen laughed, nudging Janis with her pencil. "Yeah, I can drive you."
Wednesday, 4 pm
"Thanks for giving me a ride, Gretchen," Janis said as the plastic stepped into her car.
"Of course, I wasn't just gonna let you stay at school overnight."
Janis smiled. It was only Wednesday but, she had grown to trust Gretchen a lot more this week. Gretchen hadn't dropped her- yet- and she was open and easy to talk too. It was something Janis never really noticed when she was always with Damian.
Huh.
Gretchen turned on the car, a pop song playing softly. She scooped up Janis, pacing her in over in the cup holder and buckled up.
"If something happened to you because you were on my shoulder Damian would never forgive me." She explained when Janis gave her a questioning look.
"I won't fall! I can take care of myself."
"Uh-huh." Gretchen pulled out of the school parking lot. "So, what did you talk about?"
"Oh you know- bitchin'." Janis grinned.
Gretchen knew full well that Janis couldn't tell her.
The specifics at least.
Hey, bitchin' wasn't a total lie.
But that was par for every meeting.
Maybe this week wasn't so different after all.
Thursday, 11:30 pm
"So," Gretchen's voice was a bit robotic as it came through the phone.
Janis sat at her easel, painting. "So."
"How was this week?" Gretchen asked. "I'm no Damian but I'd like to think I wasn't awful."
Janis smiled. "No, you weren't awful. At all. This week was great, actually. Regina is lucky to have you"
"-You think?"
"Yeah! Why wouldn't she?"
There was quiet on the other end. "I dunno. It's stupid but like-" Gretchen sighed.
Janis lowered her paintbrush, turning her full attention to her phone. "Gretchen, you talking to Janis Sarkisian about feelings. I guarantee it's not gonna be stupid. "
Gretchen laughed. "I know Regina hates all things that require feeling and having a heart. But I know she loves me and trusts me anyway I just- wish she'd show it more. I dunno. Is that selfish?"
"I don't think so?"
Gretchen continued. "Just, Cady and Aaron are so open with each other. You and Damian- well sometimes I'm convinced you share the same mind. Regina just won't let me in. Like- I can see something is bothering her, but she won't tell me what. I just wanna help."
Janis sighed sadly. "What you're saying now- it sounds a lot like a talk I had with Damian about a year into our friendship. After that, I worked to be more open. I tried to let him in more. And look at us now. You just gotta talk with Regina. I promise you it's not stupid."
"Thanks, Janis," Gretchen said. Janis could almost hear the smile. "Now I got to get to bed but- please don't stay up late painting."
"Oh, I will. I get Damian's pocket again tomorrow, I plan to pass out at lunch and sleep for a month."
Gretchen laughed. "Alright. Good night then."
"Bye, Gretchen."
Friday, 12 pm
Gretchen pushed her way past crowds in the cafeteria, steadily making her way to the gang's table.
Janis leaned closer to her neck as they passed. No matter who she was with, crowded hallways and cafes would forever be a no no.
Gretchen sat at the table first, nobody else was here.
"You excited to see Regina?" Janis asked as Gretchen lowered her to the table.
"Yeah. You ready to see Damian?"
"I'm ready for a nap."
Gretchen laughed. "I told you you should have gone to bed."
"Oooo! Look what we've got here!" A taunting voice cooed from behind Gretchen.
Janis can't see over Gretchen's head, but its a voice she knows all too well.
"What can we do for you, Shane?" Gretchen sits up straighter.
"I was just wondering how long you think little Space Dyke is gonna last?"
"I'm sorry?" Janis frowned as Gretchen stood up next to Shane.
"She's obviously replaced Regina. You really think she's gonna last long, Gretchen?"
Extreme distance filled Gretchen's features. "Janis didn't replace Regina."
"Then why have you been carrying around Space Dyke?"
"I'm allowed to carry around other friends." Gretchen crosses her arms, standing up straight.
Gretchen was short. There was no denying that.
But when she drew herself to full hight? She was intimidating. You just never saw it because she let Regina do the talking.
Janis blinked in disbelief at the argument going on in front of her.
Gretchen looked-
unnerving.
Shane didn't seem to feel the same uneasiness as he glared down at Gretchen. "What's it matter to you? This is is between Space Dyke and I."
"It's not space dyke. It's Janis. And Janis is my friend."
Shane rolled his eyes. "Why don't you leave caring for the worthless tiny to that gay kid?"
Woah woah woah. Janis frowned, standing up, but Gretchen beat her to the punch.
"Damian? Yeah, he's got a name too. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt, maybe you didn't know! I mean, I know because I know everything about everybody. I know things about you that can get you expelled. I know things about all your friends that could diminish Northshore's giant football team. I know shit. Maybe you don't! So I'll let you know right now. It's Damian and Janis. And you better leave them the fuck alone."
Shane rolls his eyes. "You wouldn't do shit without Regina George's permission."
Janis was vaguely aware of a crowd starting to form around the table. She didn't like it one bit.
They had done so well this week! No one was dropped nothing went wrong. Of course, the period they are supposed to switch back everything goes to shit.
Janis tried to ignore the crows around them and the way she felt suffocated.
"I don't need Regina's permission to destroy your reputation," Gretchen said, her voice was dangerously low, almost a growl.
Shane swallowed, and momentarily, his bad boy look faltered, revealing a truly threatened Shane Omen. Only momentarily.
"Stay in your own fights." He said, glaring down at Gretchen.
A low 'ooo' admitted from some of Shane's friends in the crowd.
Janis stiffened.
Shane smirked, seeming filled with a newfound confidence now that he was backed up by the crowd. He turned to Janis, the familiar malice in his eyes turning her blood cold.
This was just supposed to be a fun week, a nice experiment if you will.
This wasn't supposed to happen.
Shane reached forward and Janis instinctively stepped backward.
She couldn't back up fast enough, Shane was quicker.
Shit shit shit.
A hand slammed in front of Janis, blocking Shane and shaking the table.
"Fuck off." Gretchen all but snarled.
Janis stared wide-eyed at the hand in front of her.
Holy shit.
She felt nauseous from the spike of adrenaline and her body was shaking involuntarily.
Shane chuckled. "Seriously, Gretchen. Learn your plac-"
Gretchen reached forward, slapping Shane across the face.
There was a gasp as the crowd fell silent.
All Shane's friends who were there to back him up stepped backward into the crowd.
Janis hugged herself slightly, pulling her knees to her chest. There was still a crowd around her and it felt like too much.
Too many people.
Too much noise.
Her breaths felt shallow.
"Did you just- slap me?"
Gretchen nodded, stepping forward as Shane stepped backward. "You leave my friends alone."
"Psycho bitch." Shane spat, turning and disappearing into the crowd.
Gretchen didn't turn around immodestly, she just watched Shane walk away.
Janis wrapped her jacket tighter around her, like that could protect her or anything. The crowd had dispersed but it left the cafeteria buzzing again and everything felt too loud.
She was vaguely aware of two more tinies on the table, people sitting all around, but her brain couldn't comprehend.
All Janis could do was tug her jacket tighter and tighter until it wouldn't go anymore. She stared numbly at her hands, knuckles white from pulling her jacket.
Fingers wrapped around her torso and Janis gasped, her arms shotting out to push at the fingers.
No no no.
"Jan- Janis. It's me."
Damian. Janis relaxed, the last of her adrenaline fueled fight leaving her body. She allowed herself to be gently scooped up as Damian raised her to eye level.
"You okay?"
"I- yeah. I think?"
"You think?" Damian frowned.
"No like- Shane didn't touch me. I'm physically fine. Just shaken up, I guess."
"We were so close to a problem-free week." Regina comments from the table. She walks back over to Gretchen who picks her immediately.
"Yeah." Janis sunk into Damian's hands. "So close."
Damian drew his hands to his chest, wordlessly holding Janis close.
Janis squeezed her eyes shut as she leaned into Damian's shirt, trying to will herself to calm down.
"I hate Shane Omen." Gretchen mumbled.
Janis laughed dryly, turning to look at her friends across the table.
Regina and Aaron had obviously already found way to their giant's shoulders and Gretchen was holding her hand against her cool water bottle.
"You okay?" Janis asked.
Gretchen grinned. "I hit him a bit harder then I meant to."
"Fucking good!" Regina said.
Janis grinned. "He deserved it."
"Agreed." Damian said, his voice rumbling through Janis.
She grinned, leaning into Damian's warmth.
The week itself wasn't bad. Yeah, it was a rough ending but it was in no way Gretchen's fault.
If anything, it would have been worse without her.
Janis grabbed onto the edge of Damian's jacket, pulling herself out of his hands and using folds in the fabric for leverage as she hoisted herself into the familiar pocket.
"Jesus, Janis. Are we back at this again?"
Janis popped her head out of the jacket. "I held back all week just for you. But I'm not with Gretchen anymore."
Damian looked down at her but a small smile played on his lips, betraying his disappointment. "Just be careful."
"Always am!" Janis gave a salute to the table before sinking into the pocket, getting comfy.
At the end of the week, while all the giants were her friends, Damian was her giant. And she never wanted to do this little experiment again.

Luna has issues with the step mom but it should be with her dad. Shes biased and sees him as he was when she was growing up. He has a new life, chose a younger wife, new "hobbies" and probably didnt expect a new kid, but it cant all be put on the wife. If his mom is coming up short then it's up to the dad to pull through. Onew just has to ride with it lol (I cansee him nodding, reading his paper "yes dear shes terrible"). Poor Taemin just wants to be at home with his parents like everyone else.
After Taemin is picked up by his father on Tuesday (he hadn’t made it home in time to pick him up from school, naturally), Luna starts ranting to Onew for hours. He’s sitting at the kitchen table, twirling a mug of decaf between his hands and staring at the cookies sitting on the counter. He wants one so bad, they’re right there, but if he gets up and grabs one while Luna is on this tangent, she’s going to just throw a towel at him again.
“Uh-huh,” he hums when she pauses.
Then she starts up again. It’s going to be a very long night. Maybe he should call out sick tomorrow.
“Have you ever thought,” Onew starts once the clock reads 10:23 pm, “to maybe talk about this with your dad?”
“And say what, exactly?” she scoffs. “Hey Dad, your wife is a terrible mother and it’s traumatizing my baby brother, just thought you ought to know.”
“I meant,” he says, trying to stay patient, “talk to him about him. I know you don’t like your step-mom, but she’s not Taemin’s only parent.”
“Are you saying this is my dad’s fault?”
“I’m just saying he might be a contributing factor.”
Luna looks like she’s going to explode. He gets that she’s upset, that Taemin and her dad are a very sensitive subject for her, but he does not want to be sitting at the this kitchen table all night. The chair is starting to hurt his back.
“Maybe just sleep on it?” he suggests. “Take some time to think about it?”
Luna nods, but then she leans against the counter and holds a hand up to her mouth. She lets out a muffled cry, and Onew is quick to stand up and hug her.
“I’m just so worried about him,” she admits. “He’s just a little boy.”
“I know,” he says softly, hugging her tight. “But I think that’s why you need to talk with your dad about it.”
“You’re probably right,” she says, her voice shaking.
“Here, have a cookie, it will make you feel better,” he says quickly, grabbing one for her and one for himself. She scoffs and laughs, but she takes it. They spend another hour trying to figure out what to do about all of this, sitting on the couch. They finally get to bed around midnight, but Onew doesn’t bother calling out the next morning. He goes to school anyway, but takes note of how Taemin is absent. He had, after all, heard his father-in-law mention that he would keep Taemin home for a “special bonding day.”
What’s worrying is that Taemin isn’t at school on Thursday either, or Friday. He tells Luna as such every day, and on Friday, she finally calls her dad.
“Are you still keeping Taemin home from school?” she asks. “Is he sick? Onew said the office at school told him Taemin had a cold.”
“We went on a little vacation!” her dad says over the phone. “The three of us! We’re at the lake house, we’ll be home on Sunday.”
“Oh,” she stutters. “Okay then. Have fun.”
Then he hangs up. It’s very strange. Luna and Onew don’t have a very good feeling about any of it.
The following Monday, Onew goes out to the school yard before classes start to look for Taemin. He finds him running around with Kai, and he doesn’t miss the way Taemin frowns when Onew calls him over.
“I didn’t do anything,” Taemin whines when he comes stomping over. “School hasn’t even started yet!”
“You’re not in any trouble,” Onew says gently, and he kneels down. “Luna and I just were worried when you didn’t show up to school last week. Did you have fun with your mom and dad?”
“Am I in trouble for missing school?”
“No,” Onew assures him. “If your parents want to keep you home, that’s their own business. And I won’t tell anyone where you were.”
“Oh,” Taemin mumbles. “Yeah, it was fun. For a little bit.”
“Only for a little bit?” Onew asks. “Weren’t you there a few days?”
“Yeah,” he mutters. “But Mommy and Daddy went out a lot at night, and,” his voice gets very quiet, “I got scared.”
“They left you alone?” Onew asks, holding on to Taemin’s arm. “At night?”
“Yeah,” Taemin mumbles, “on Thursday and Friday and Saturday.”
“That’s not good,” Onew sighs. “But you’re okay, right? You’re feeling okay?”
“Yeah,” Taemin huffs. “And Daddy bought me lots of new toys and a new bike and more video games and stuff.”
“He did?” Onew asks, clearing his throat. “Really? When?”
“He had lots of stuff in the car when he picked me up,” Taemin tells him, looking a little happier. “And then when we went up to the lake, he got me a new bike, and then on Friday we went and bought more toys and stuff with Mommy.”
“That’s fun,” Onew says carefully. “You’ll have to show me some time.”
“Yeah,” Taemin says, playing with Onew’s sleeve. “Can we play Dungeons and Dragons again next time I come over?”
“Sure,” Onew says quickly. “I’ll even call Uncle Key and Uncle Minho to come over the next time.”
Taemin smiles really big at him, and Onew is just glad to see him happy.
“Thanks!” Taemin says. “Can I go play with Kai now?”
“Yeah, sure,” Onew says softly. “Go play. I’ll see you later.”
“Onew?” Taemin whispers. “I can still talk to you whenever, right?”
“Of course,” Onew says gently. “You can talk to me anytime. About anything.”
“Kay,” Taemin mumbles. Then he smiles again and turns to run back towards Kai.
If Onew was worried before, he’s completely concerned now. But Taemin looks happy running around with his friends, especially since Ravi and Moonkyu have since arrived and joined. He’ll bring it up with Luna later. But he’s definitely not happy about his father-in-law trying to buy Taemin’s love; that’s a huge red flag.

A Thousand Miles, Chapter 4
Tuesday Night, August 28
'What am I thinking? Of course I want to live! I can't leave my brother here to try and survive alone.'
I walked out the door to look for Keegan.
"I'm sorry, Keegan. I'm just worried. And scared."
He gave me a sad look.
"I know, Ariana. We both are. But we have to stick together in order to make it through this. And you have to have hope. We both do."
He gave me a reassuring look, and we walked back to our house.
"Okay, let's look for any supplies we could use for this storm. I think our best bet is to go to the restaurant down that way," Keegan said as he pointed to the left of our house.
"We'll find everything we think we can use and then we'll head down there. They have offices above the restaurant, and we need to get somewhere high above the ground."
"I agree. Let's start looking."
We looked around the house for thirty minutes before deciding we had everything we could possibly use. We started our trek, bags full of supplies on our backs, and headed towards the restaurant.
When we reached the building, it was completely empty. We looked around outside to see if we could find anything lying on the ground that someone might have left when they were in a hurry to get out of town, but found nothing.
We entered the building in search of a place to go. The restaurant was completely deserted. I had never seen it so empty, but of course no one would be there. We took the still-working elevator up to the third floor, the top of the building, and went to the office that was in the middle of the building.
This was our first hurricane experience, and we were alone, so to say that we were unprepared was an understatement.
"So, I guess now we just wait, huh?"
"Yeah I guess so. Look, Ariana, I know this is terrifying for you. It is for me too. But I'm glad that we're in this together because I would not make it through this without you."
I smiled at Keegan and said, "Me too, Keegan. I don't know what I would do without you. Thanks for always being there for me."
We decided that we would move the desk in the office to one side of the room, close to the door, and then we would set up the sleeping bags we had brought from home. As if we would be able to sleep through that.
When we finished setting everything up, it was time to wait. We had a weather radio and a regular radio we found in the garage at our house. We also took Matt's iPad, just in case we could get service and access the internet or weather apps from it.
'Okay, here we go. I can do this. We can do this. We'll make it through this,' I thought to myself.
"What time is it supposed to come? Do you know?"
"Hang on, I'll check," he paused as he tried to get service on the iPad, but failed. He turned the knob on the weather radio so we could hear what was going on in hopes of figuring out what time the hurricane would hit.
All we could hear was static, so we decided to listen to the normal radio. In a way, the music was calming because it made us forget somewhat about what was coming. We sat, listening to any station that would connect, for about an hour before we heard anything.
As Keegan flipped through the channels, we heard several different stations. We finally decided to stick with "Smooth Jazz Hits" in hopes that it would help calm our nerves.
It surprisingly helped. They played covers of songs like "I Will Always Love You" and "Don't Stop Believin'", which made Keegan and I laugh as we sung along. It reminded us of when our older brother, Mark, would sing for us. I still remember it like it was yesterday. Mark would gather us all up in the living room and would give Mom, Dad, and Matt panels to judge him with, like a singing show. He would get all of the other kids to do something too and would make it all into a talent show.
Mark would sing my favorite songs to make me laugh, and would then sing Keegan's favorite songs because he would always get mad if he couldn't listen to his favorites'. We were six, Keegan and I, and Mark was ten.
Mark would always start the show, and after him would be Sophie. Sophie was only a year older than Mark, so she would tell jokes, teasing him about being younger, and when the judges would tell her to "get on with it", she would perform the dance she had learned from ballet class that week. After Sophie, David would go. He was always more quiet and reserved, so David would go up and would try to dance, but eventually found out that he could juggle, so started juggling. It was awesome.
Jack was after David, and he and Keegan would always tag team on a talent and would perform a song. David would play on his keyboard, and Keegan would play Dad's guitar. Up next, it was me. I would always go up there, feeling excited and as talented as a superstar. I would make up stories and tell them to the judges, and I even won once. After I would go, Mark would finish the show with "We Are the Champions" because it was his favorite song. Hearing these songs reminded me of my family, making me miss them even more.
My thoughts were interrupted by a low buzz from the weather radio. Buzz, buzz, buzz, followed by a high pitched hum. An alert.
A hurricane warning remains in effect for the southern Louisiana coast. Hurricane Isaac, a major and extremely deadly hurricane is expected to hit the coast at 8:52 pm tonight.
I looked at Keegan with fear in my eyes, then at my watch. 8:00. We had 52 minutes to prepare.
Evacuation orders are currently in effect for the following parishes: Jefferson, Lafourche, Orleans, Plaquemines, Saint Bernard, Saint Charles, Terrebonne...
The voice continued for what seemed like forever until he was finally finished reading off the parishes.
If you live in the listed areas and have not done so, evacuate now.
Keegan and I looked at each other, both terrified for what was to come.
Even though we were in the center of the building, I could hear the wind start to pick up. I stood up and walked out of the room.
"Ariana, where are you going?"
Keegan followed after me quickly and grabbed my arm before I could go any further.
"I'm going to check what it looks like outside. I'll be careful."
"No, you're going to stay here. We both are. You heard what the radio said. And since we can't evacuate, we need to stay away from the windows."
He let go of my arm and we started to walk back inside the room, but I quickly got away. The curiosity had gotten to me, but also the need to know what was going on. Keegan ran after me, but I was already watching what was happening.
Wind hit the windows with a great force I had never seen before. We were in for a tough ride. Keegan and I walked back to the room and sat down on our sleeping bags.
I didn't know what to do anymore. I felt hopeless. I started to cry as I faced the wall, and Keegan came up behind me and hugged me.
"I know, Ariana. I'm scared too. But you're not alone. I'm here with you."
I held onto him as the tears started flowing like rivers down my face. I couldn't stop them and I didn't know why. I was strong. I always had been. I never cried, so why was I losing my cool now?
Because there was a storm coming. And I was terrified. Because I was separated from my family, and my twin brother and I had to keep each other safe.
Suddenly, I stopped crying. I remembered what Mom had told me when I was younger. I had gone to the store with her and was lost. I was crying my eyes out and people were gathering around me to help. When I found her, just a few aisles down, I hugged her as if I hadn't seen her in years.
When we were in the car going home, she told me, 'Ariana, I don't want you to be scared if you get lost, okay? You just find someone and they'll help you get to me. Even if you and I are worlds apart, I will always be with you in there,' she pointed to my heart,' and in here,' she pointed to my head, 'telling you my words of advice, even if you don't want to hear them.' She gave me a wink and looked back at the road.
Although that moment was somewhat cheesy, it stuck with me for forever. And I would never forget that she was always with me.
"Keegan, I know what we have to do."
He looked up at me, a confused look on his face.
"What do you mean? We're sitting here and waiting the storm out."
I gave him an evil grin and started to stand up.
"No, we need to move. Let's get out of here! Let's go try and find Mom and Dad! We can find a car and try and drive it to them."
"Ariana, what? We can't do that! We have to stay put so we can stay safe! What are you on today?"
I sat down, defeated. He was right. I guess my thoughts of Mom made me want to be a hero.
I checked my watch. 8:30. Already?
I got inside my sleeping bag and closed my eyes. I couldn't sleep with the lights on, but I was going to try.
I squeezed my eyes shut for what felt like an eternity, but turned out to be 10 minutes. I opened my eyes to the sound of Keegan saying, "Oh!"
The lights had shut off. The power was out. Well, I guess that helped my sleeping situation. I turned over to face Keegan, who was lying down now.
"I love you, Ariana, and I'm glad that we're facing this storm together. I'm lucky to have a built-in best friend."
"I love you too, Keegan."
We sat there smiling and soon both closed our eyes, only to open them minutes later to the sound of sirens. I looked at my watch. 8:51. I guess the storm was coming early.
Thanks for reading!

Late Night Surprise
A/N: I began writing this in August 2017 and I just finished it?? wildt.. I tend to forget about my works a lot lololol. .. I feel like this piece is a bit hard to follow and is kinda bad overall hhs sorry :c I tried my best to fix it but I’m not sure how good of a job I did. Hopefully it’s alright and you enjoy it~
Pairing: Jongho x fem reader
Genre: fluff, high school au
Words: roughly 2.2k
Warnings: none, just some cussing.
*Tuesday, April 14, 2019. 11:33:37 PM*
An exasperated sigh escapes your lips as you read the date and time on the top right corner of your laptop screen.
You have a Spanish essay due in two days over a book you were assigned to read throughout the month of October, and you've been procrastinating your work. The book was an easy read and didn’t take you too long to finish, and the essay question wasn’t particularly hard, yet you still put it off until the last minute. You’ve just been so stressed lately by other school work, extra-curriculars, scholarship applications, etc., that this essay was the last thing you wanted to worry about.
You are so close to being done, having left to only revise your essay and make sure it’s absolutely perfect. You can’t turn in garbage; your teachers’ expectations for you are set high—an obvious result of you being in the top 10% of your school. To add onto that, you’re a senior, so you have to make your last year in high school the best in all terms.
But your head throbs. You’ve been working non-stop on this damn essay since yesterday, and you need to take a break before you lose all sense of reality. Saving the file and then closing your laptop, you stand up from your chair and throw yourself onto your bed. It’s just then when you hear something lightly hit your window, but you don’t really think much of it. A few seconds later, you hear another something hit your window. Weird.
You turn to your side, facing the wall where your window lay, and just stare out of it.
*Pab*
Huh? W-was that a..? Did a pebble just hit your window?
*Pab*
And there was another one??
Your eyebrows knit together in confusion as you get up and walk towards your window, going to inspect just what might be disturbing your very much needed peace.
You proceed to open the window and are met with the crisp night air and a slight breeze which brushes against your skin. You look out, and then down, but there’s nothing strange to catch your attention.
“Pshhhhh.. Y/N~”, you hear a voice whisper out to you from your right, and your head jerks right towards it, eyes landing upon… Jongho?
“Jongho!!??”, you shout in a whisper, eyes wide in surprise and your heart skipping a beat. Are your eyes playing tricks on you? Have you finally lost your mind thanks to that damn essay?
He shoots you a sheepish smile, “Could you let me in? I’m kinda struggling here..”—and that’s when you realize he is crouched onto the branch of your tree.
Your heart beats just a little bit faster as you move away from the window to give your boyfriend access, but mostly due to him hanging onto your tree the way he currently is. You know he’s strong, but things could still go so wrong, so fast.
As Jongho carefully crawls through your window, you quickly stretch your hand out towards him, and he takes a hold of it for extra support. Once he’s safe inside your bedroom, he proceeds to take off his shoes while still holding your hand.
“Hi baby~”, he croons, bringing your hand up to his lips and pecks the back of it. This guy…..
“Jongho, what the fuck—“
“Hey, watch your language. Your parents are downstairs sleeping, you’re gonna wake them up!” he warns you, and you shoot him an incredulous look.
“Me? I’m going to wake them up?”, you scoff at him, “Jongho, you can’t just show up to my house without any previous notice. Do you know what time it is!? Why aren’t you sleeping?” you ramble, a bit shaken up by the fact that your boyfriend was actually here right now.
Jongho looks at the ground while biting his cheek to keep from laughing, but a chuckle escapes, causing you to frown.
He can’t help it, you’re just too cute when you get flustered and scold him for the silly things he does.
He then looks up and pulls you towards him, letting go of your hand and opting to wrap his arms around you, holding you tightly. He rests his chin on top of your head, and muffles “I just missed you, is all”, into your hair, and then kisses the top of it. Now this made you melt, and you were sure that your heart forgot to beat for a couple seconds.
“I missed you too”, you reply with a small smile on your lips as you leave a chaste kiss on his jawline.
Last week had been hectic for you, spending your free periods at tutorials which your teachers offered, and lunch in the library working on upcoming assignments. After school was much the same, as you would drive straight home as soon as the release bell rang to lock yourself away in your room, studying into oblivion. You barely got to spend time with Jongho, as the moments you saw him in the hallway or lunchtime were short and rushed. So it was fair to say you missed him, because you did. You really, really, missed him.
And so did he; he missed the scent of your sweet, delicate floral perfume which makes him feel as if flowers are blooming in his lungs every time he hugs you. He missed your voice and bright laugh, which has his heart burst whenever he hears it. He missed your long, soft hair, and how it feels between his fingers whenever he runs his hands through it. He missed your pretty, pink lips, which somehow always taste like strawberries and have him want to have his against yours forever.
He missed you—everything about you—and he couldn’t spend another week—hell, second—without seeing you. Even if it were for 10 minutes, he had to see you. Properly.
You two stand there in each other's arm for what feels like 2 seconds, when in reality has probably been 5 minutes, taking each other in, before you hear footsteps up the stairs. Shit.
“Jongho, fuck, ah—oh my gosh, get in my closet! I think my parents are coming upstairs, oh shit“, you blurt out in a whisper, so fast that Jongho was slightly impressed. Grabbing his hand you pull him towards your (much too small) closet and push him in.
“Hey, no noise. Understood??”, you command him, before closing the door.
Jongho hums, signaling that he understood you, and you rush to sit at your desk and open a textbook, pretending to be studying. There are two knocks on your door before it opens, and there stands your father.
“Y/N?”
“Hey dad”, you smile sweetly at him, “I thought you were sleeping”, you say.
“No, but I am going to bed now. Just wanted to check up on you first.”
“Oh ok”, you reply, hearing your heartbeat in your ears.
"What are you working on?”, he questions you, looking over to the book in your hands.
“Oh, you know…just some last minute studying,” you nonchalantly answer, and he hums, acknowledging your answer.
What’s he doing?, you think to yourself, is he stalling?
Your father then walks towards your bed and sits on the edge of it, facing your closet. Shit..
“What’s wrong, Y/N?”, your father asks you.
“Hm?” you hum quickly, taken by surprise.
She’s caught off guard, Jongho thinks to himself; He instantly knew by the way you answered your father, and by the slight quiver in your voice.
He can only imagine how you look, eyes wide and probably playing with your necklace, the one he gifted you for your one year anniversary, which you never took off. Every time you got nervous you would play with the music note charm, a reminder of him, and Jongho guesses that you are nervous right now. He can just tell.
“O-oh, nothing, I just realized how late it is now.” you respond immediately, recollecting yourself from being caught off guard by your father’s question, and you eye the clock on your bed stand.
“Oh, what a lie,” Jongho thinks to himself, and a small smirk forms on his lips.
He knows why you are nervous; you’re uneasy because he is in your room, late at night, and your parents don’t know—you don’t want them to find out, especially your father. Just imagine what a messy situation that would be! Your father would think all the wrong things, and you would probably be grounded for life and prohibited from seeing Jongho ever again. You really don’t want to risk that.
“I should go to sleep,” you mutter, letting out a fake yawn, and right when you say that is when Jongho somehow realizes that your father is sitting across from where he is hiding.
Fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck.
Jongho’s mind is running wild, and he’s thinking of all the possible scenarios.
Please leave…please please please, he repeats to himself, becoming stiff as adrenaline pumps through his veins.
Your father stands up and hums, and Jongho hears this.
Is he facing me?? Shit, is he going to open the closet? Fuck, oh god, help me,
Jongho's heart races and he’s almost positive that your father can hear it. God, his heart is about to jump out of his chest by how hard it’s beating. It could probably be heard miles away.
“You should”, replies your father, “goodnight, Y/N.”
“Night, Dad,” you respond, and Jongho hears your door close, signaling your father’s disappearance. Finally.
After your father left, you wait for five minutes to pass, just to make sure that he won’t disturb you once again.
You sigh in relief and stand from your chair, walking towards your closet. You then open it and find before you a very flustered Jongho, who stands up immediately upon seeing you and dramatically falls into your arms, knocking you over.
A small squeal escapes your lips as you topple over onto your bed and Jongho follows, landing on top of you. It’s not your fault your boyfriend is 10x your size.
Your faces are centimeters apart and your dumbass boyfriend leans in to peck your lips.
“You are such an idiot, Jongho!” you exclaim, which causes him to burst out laughing, his face scrunching up in pure entertainment.
“No, no, I’m not playing around”, you say, biting your lip in an attempt to keep a straight face. Why is it that every time this boy smiles or laughs you can’t help but do so too? His smile was making you feel warm and your heart dance, and god, you hated that right now because you just want to scold him for doing something so immature and—
Jongho leans in again and captures your lips with his, having all your thoughts halt.
Your chest feels on fire, and your eyes flutter closed. You appreciate the feeling of Jongho’s plush, soft lips against your own and relax underneath him, taking it all in. How could you have nearly forgotten how wonderful it feels to kiss this amazing boy before you???
Your lips mold perfectly together, and move against each other’s so exquisitely it’s mouth-watering. Jongho brings his hand to gently hold your chin and begins to take control, moving his lips just slightly faster and pressing against yours harder now, letting you feel how much he missed you through his kiss. You separate from him and hold his cheek softly, and he leans into it, looking down at you.
“I really, really, missed you...” you mumble, admiring the small twinkle garnishing his eyes, “you know you have really pretty eyes?” you ask him.
He lets out a short scoff, smiling goofily at you,
“Oh do I?” he teases, and you hum in response.
You pull his face down towards yours and hover your lips over his left eye, and he flutters it closed. You press a gentle kiss against his eyelid, and then do the same to his right.
“Very pretty..” you trail off, “looks like you got lil stars in em” you smile softly at him, and Jongho feels his cheeks heat up.
“They light up only when I see you.. they’re lit up by the fire that ignites in my chest whenever I’m with you,” he replies back, smirking down at you, and now it’s your turn to blush.
“Stop being so poetic,” you smile shyly, kissing his cheek.
He smiles sheepishly at you, “you are my muse~” he says, and you laugh out, a sudden shyness coming over you.
“Com’ere” you say, and wrap your arms around his torso, pulling him towards you to lie down with you.
Jongho lies on his back and you roll over, resting your head on his chest and tangling your legs with his. He gently strokes his fingertips through your hair and you close your eyes, finally feeling at peace.
“Can we stay a bit like this?” you ask him, hoping he won’t leave you now.
“I wouldn’t want anything else,” he replies, and you two just lie there in each other's arms, finally after what felt like years of being apart.

On Highway 12,  Tuesday, 10:00 PM
~~
I stare lazily outside into the night sky; the view of trees turning into a sea of green as we drive down the highway to our new home in Cedar Cove.
“Are we there yet?” I ask the driver. My dad briefly looks at his phone.
“No. Don’t worry , we’re almost there”
“That’s what you said two hours ago” I groan. He chuckles slightly. My mom chimes in.
“We’ll be there before you know it. Take a nap sweetie.”
“Fineee” I grab my ear buds before leaning back in my seat and rest my head on the window. I shuffle my playlist before falling fast asleep.
“ All of this could have ended differently. I screwed everything up back at Bowie. I lost all connections I built with my IB friends… and most importantly, Devin; my crush”  I sniff softly “Maybe moving away… was the best choice” I thought before falling into a deeper sleep.
A brief memory of Richard comes across my mind in my sleep; a memory that I wanted to delete from my memory. He marches towards me, furious.
“You!” He seethed , jabbing a finger in my face “You caused this disaster!” This really wasn’t the time for confronting me.
I scowled. “Excuse me?! You know I was just following your orders!”
“I DON’T WANT TO HEAR IT! THIS IS ALL YOUR FAULT!” We were now face to face “Now because of you, we lost the competition and the funds to support the IB program!”
I was one second away from punching his face. “If you give me a momen--” Before I could finish, he turned away.
“Fuck you, you piece of shit” he growled “Lets go “ He ordered everyone else. After that, rumors started to spread around the school; that I was the worst person in the entire school. Cold glares and isolation was only the tip of the iceberg. I came across Devin one day from the opposite direction. At Least I have one person that could brighten my day, or so I had thought.
“Oh. Hey Devin!” I greeted.... A moment of silence, not a single glance in my direction” Devin?”
He grunted. “ Get away from me.” This wasn’t his normal behavior and I made the mistake of confronting him.
“Wh-- Please don’t tell me you believe the rumors that's been going around these past few weeks.” Devin gritted his teeth and pushed me towards the lockers. “Ow- What the hell was that for?!”
“I’m not gonna say it again. GET.AWAY.FROM.ME. I don’t want to see your face anymore” He threatened.
That was when my world started to break into a million of pieces. Richard’s words echoing through my mind. “THIS IS ALL YOUR FAULT!”
Gritting my teeth,“SHUT THE FUCK UP!”  I scream back, waking up. A moment of silence pass as I try to  regain my composure. “Oh”. I look up to my parents staring back at me from the front mirror.
Turning back,“Oh honey, another nightmare?” My mother asked, face slightly frowning in concern. “You were thrashing back and forth again.”
“I-... no...maybe” I sigh “It’s nothing really”.
“Are you sure Ben? You’ve been having a lot of these night scares recently ever since we moved.” My father asked, throwing a concerning look in the front mirror.
I shrug. “Just a bit stressed from the past few weeks. Don’t worry.” Life was hectic for all of us due to sudden changes at my parents’ jobs and it showed. “Once we get to our new home, I’ll be all better.” I cleared my throat. “How far are we away from Cedar Cove now?”
“Well..” My dad looks at his phone again “We’re not too far away now. About ten minutes. We’ll probably see the sign for the city along the way.” No sooner than he said, we pass a sign with Cedar Cove in big letters. The sea of green gradually shifted to buildings and highway lightings.
“Ugh ten more minutes until I can sleep in a real bed--”
Suddenly, the car came to a jolting stop to a stop light.
“Woah!” I gasp, thrown out of my seat. “What was that for dad?” pouting as I got back up.
He chuckles. “Haha, sorry about that. Just tired from all the traveling, didn’t see that stop light”. My mom elbows him from across. “Ow! Sorry Sorry” he laughs. “We’ll be in Cedar Cove and to our new home soon..”
I roll my eyes “ ugh just save me from this nightmare already.” I grumble as I look out into the night sky.
We drive down the streets of Cedar Cove, taking in the view of the town. The town looked pleasant enough.
“ Turn left and your destination will be on the right.” The GPS stated.
The car came to a stop as we arrived to our new driveway. “FINALLY! WE’RE FREE!” I shout as we get out of the car. “Hey mẹ* . Can I borrow your arms?” I hold onto her hands and lean back to stretch my spine. Crack, Crack. “Wow … that must have been one long ride” I thought. We stretch for a bit longer before dad came over to hand me the keys to the house.
“Don’t go losing the keys now.”
Rolling my eyes“When have I ever lose the house keys?” I joke. He chuckles.
“Anyways, the moving truck should be here tomorrow . Go help mom bring in the beds and call it a night. Tomorrow is going to be one busy day.”
I nod. “The sooner the better” I laugh as I help my mom bring in the beds into our new house. The house didn’t look half too bad, in my opinion. It was smaller than our old home, but it had that familiar quaint feeling. At last, I chose my room and dropped my bed in a corner. I took out my phone and checked the time. Yikes, 11 P.M. I flop onto my bed.
I flop onto my bed.“Good night mẹ”
“Good night darling, rest up. We have a lot of stuff to do tomorrow” I groan a reply before falling asleep.
Beep. Beep.Beep. I half open one of my eyes to look at my phone.8:45 AM. “Ughhh, too early for this” I roll across my bed. “5 more min--” I mumble before the door to my room suddenly opens.
“GOOD MORNING SQUIRT!” My dad beams. I really wasn’t in the mood for this. I squinted.
“Good.. morning to you to dad” I mumble as I lazily wrap myself in my blanket.
“Time to rise and shine! We have a lot of stuff to do.”
I don’t know how he’s so active in the morning. “Yeah.. i’ll,rise and shine in like 5 min--” I start before he yanks the blanket away from me.
“AHH! Fine i’m up.” I complain.
He laughs “Go get some breakfast and i’ll see you in a bit”. I yawn before getting out of bed to do the usual morning routine. Afterwards, I plop down on one of the makeshift chairs in the kitchen with a bowl of cereal.
“So what’s the plan for today?” I ask before eating a spoonful of cereal.
“Well” My mom takes a sip of her coffee”The moving company is arriving this afternoon. Then we have to head to the local dealership to get you a car and  we’re going to shop around for furniture.” She hands dad a cup of coffee.
Finishing the last bite of my cereal and gulping the milk down. “I see and by we, you mean you and dad?” She playfully slaps my shoulder.
“ Yes dear” rolling her eyes
”We’ll handle the moving stuff, in the meantime you’ll drive around town and visit your new high school” My dad states.
I felt a knot form in my stomach. “Fantastic. What’s the address to the school?” I lend my phone to my dad as he types the address in. “Oliver M. Berry High. Not too far away from here.”
My mom chimes in “ We contacted the principal before hand, and she’ll get you settled.” Both of them finishing their cup of coffee. “Ready to go?”
“Yep. Give me a min to change into some clothes and i’ll see y’all at the car.” I got up and walked back to my room.
Berry High, eh? Let’s hope it’s better than my previous school I thought before changing out of my house clothes. We drove to the local dealership to rent a car for me. I’m not entirely picky when it comes to cars, as long as it gets me from point A to B. We drive up to the entrance and a employee comes to greet us.
“Good morning there! Welcome to the Cedar Used Car shop. How may I help you today?”
“We’re here to buy a car for my son. We just moved into town today.” My dad says.
“Oh! Welcome to Cedar Cove. Please come this way to view our selection”
We spent two hours or so testing out the multitude of cars available. We decided on a 2005 Honda Accord. My parents signed the papers and soon I find myself inside my car.
“Drive safe son” He hands me the keys to the car. “We’ll take care of the rest”
“I will.” I look at the time on my phone, 11:30 AM. “ Oh it’s almost time for me to go. I’ll be back later tonight.” My parents nod. “Have fun shopping” I joke before driving away.
“ Your destination is on the right” my GPS stated.
I glance over to my right and came across my first sight of Oliver M.Berry High school. I furrow one of my eyebrows in surprise.
“Huh… this school looks a bit smaller than Bowie” I thought in disappointment. I searched around for a guest parking spot to park my car. “Well, this is my new car now. Better than nothing I guess”. I parked my car and got out “ Well here goes nothing. “ I took my first steps on Berry High’s ground. A small grin comes across my face.
“Wow this place looks a bit better than I thought it was” I thought as I observe the environment. I opened the front doors of Berry High and a woman in a yellow blouse came to me.
“Good afternoon , young man! You must be Ben Burton, our new student.” She offers a handshake, smiling.
“Uh… Yes I am.” I shook her hand “and you must be?”
“ I am Principal Hughs and I welcome you to your new home.”

“Hello?”
“Hey, so! I forgot to tell you when you came by to pick up Tobio earlier, but a little bird told me an embarrassing secret of yours...”
(muffled laughter)
“Who do I have to kill?”
“So violent!”
“I asked a question: Who do I have to kill?”
“Really, Tsukki? You’re gonna murder your own son? Your only offspring? The apple—I mean—blueberry of your eye? The –”
“Okay, I get your point, please stop talking.”
(sigh)
“What did Tobio say now?”
“Oh, nothing much... just that you reeeally liked me before we started dating.”
“I can hear you grinning over a verbal conversation. How is that possible?”
“Aw, baaabe! You didn’t deny it! You had a crush on me!”
“We’re already dating.”
“Still!”
“Dad, why is Kuroo-san making weird noises?”
“Because he’s weird.”
“Oh, Tobio’s there? Hi, Tobio!”
“Hi, Kuroo-san.”
“He just finished his glass of milk before bed so he came to say good night.
“Yeah.”
“That’s good, kid! Keep drinking milk and maybe you’ll be as tall as me one day! Anyway, Tsukki, don’t change the subject—you’re very cute and totally had a crush on me.”
“He really did.”
“Tobio!”
“See!”
“I think that’s enough from both of you now. Good night, Kuroo.”
“‘Night, babe! You too, Tobio! Have sweet dreams about me!”
(grumbling)
“I said good night!”
“Muah!”
“Good night, Kuroo-san.”

“Yes.”
“Hey, buddy! What’s up? Why are you on your dad’s phone?”
“Dad’s sick.”
“Oh no! Is he in bed right now?”
“Yes. He’s asleep.”
“That’s good. He needs plenty of rest.”
“...”
“Hey, uh, Tobio, how did you call me? Are you learning how to read in school now?”
“Yeah, but also your picture is on Dad’s phone.”
“Really, huh! Do you remember which one? Can you check for me?”
(rustling)
“Uhhh, the one where you’re showing off your arm.”
(muffled)
“That just made my entire day, oh my god.”
“Kuroo-san? I can’t hear you because you’re talking too fast.”
“Oh, sorry, Tobio! Just got distracted. Anyway, was there a reason you called me?”
“Dad’s sick.”
“Yes, you told me, kiddo. Is Akiteru-san taking care of him?”
“Nuh-uh. Aki-jiichan had work. He said he was gonna get someone but since no one’s here yet I took Dad’s phone and called you.”
“Oh. OH! You need me to come over, Tobio?”
“Yes, please. I don’t know how to heat up my lunch.”
“I’m on my way, kiddo. I’ll check on your dad too, okay?”
“Okay. See you, Kuroo-san!”
“Bye, Tobio!”

Tsukki <3 is calling...
“Hello? Tsukki, already calling me? I just left your place –”
“Kuroo-san?”
“Oh, Tobio! Hey, kid, what’s up?”
“Thank you for coming.”
“Oh, it was no problem! I’m glad I could help!”
“Dad forgot to say thank you earlier so I’m calling to tell you.”
“Tobio!”
(rustling)
“Tobio? You still there?”
“Sorry about that. Tobio took my phone.”
“It’s fine. You got a smart kid there.”
“I’ve got a kid who’s out to make my life hell is what I got.”
“You love him though!”
“Wouldn’t trade him for the world. Still, I did not tell him to tell you I said ‘thank you’.”
“Great! So that means you can tell me yourself now!”
“Seriously, I cannot believe I can hear you grinning on a phone conversation. How are you doing that?”
“Doesn’t matter! Now tell me ‘thank you’!”
“No.”
“Please, Tsukki!”
“Dad, you should tell him ‘thank you’.”
“Listen to Tobio!”
“Quit it, both of you.”
(sigh)
“Um... thanks, I guess, Kuroo.”
“Laying it real thick there, Tsukki. It almost sounded like you weren’t having your teeth pulled.”
“You’re the one who asked!”
“You did, Kuroo-san.”
(muffled)
“Tobio, can you play in your room please? Dad’s gotta have a conversation with Kuroo-san.”
“Okay.”
(rustling)
“A ‘conversation’, huh? You’re voice still sounds too rough to be talking, you know.”
“I have tea with me right now, I’ll be fine.”
“Good! And you’re welcome, by the way, I was happy to help. You can call me next time too, you know? Instead of asking Akiteru to do it.”
“I told you I thought Yamaguchi was coming over. I didn’t know nii-san asked for you instead.”
“But he did and now you can too! So just, you know, ask.”
“... I don’t like depending on people.”
“I know, Tsukki, but I swear you and Tobio can count on me, okay?”
“You can’t promise that.”
“I can: I promise I’ll be there for you and Tobio. There, just did it.”
“You can’t guarantee that.”
“Maybe not, but I’m gonna try my hardest anyway.”
“... I couldn’t stop you even if I wanted, huh?”
“No.”
“Please stop grinning—I can still hear you.”
“Wanna see it?”
(8:01) *image attached*
“That is the derpiest look I’ve ever seen, oh my god.”
“Glad you like it!”
“...”
“...”
(sigh)
“I. I guess I’ll count on you... sometimes... or whatever.”
“TSUKKIIIII!”
“Don’t yell when you’re on the phone, jeez.”
“I love you!! You can totally count on me!! Tobio too!!”
“Oh god, what have I done? Whatever, it’s late and I have to put Tobio to bed still. Good night, Kuroo-san.”
“‘Night, babe!”
“‘Night... I love you too.”

Prompt: She’d never known how badly she’d wanted it until the moment it happened.
Sorry it took so long BUT here we go!!
Corn Dogs and Oreos
also on ao3
Rey Jakken was a woman who was always happy with what she had. Growing up in the American foster system had her appreciate everything she had in the moment because it was never certain when she would have it next. When she finally aged out, she was able to pursue a degree at Coruscant University due to two scholarships she received: one covered her tuition, the other covered her housing and meal plan. She was required to live on-campus all four years, but it allowed her to work a part-time, instead of full-time, job to cover her textbook and other expenses.
At the end of her second year, she was set up on a blind date with her lab partner’s childhood best friend. Much to Rey’s luck, the boy ended up being a very respectable, albeit awkward, guy. And they hit it off. Two months later they were dating. It was a weird adjustment for Rey because she was only used to having to think about herself (and her friends), but having a boyfriend meant making plans for family dinners and dates and functions--all of which she wasn’t familiar with.
The family dinners ranged from tense to hilarious, and at the functions, Rey and Ben could always be found in the corner judging the patrons of whatever the function was for that month. The dates were always their favorite parts, though. It was a time where they could just be whoever they wanted that night and enjoy the time with each other without having to put up any act.
There were fun dates and formal dates and Netflix dates and all kinds of other dates. But there was one date that always stuck with Rey: the night they went to the carnival.
--
“Ben, will you please just tell me where we’re going?” Rey sighed.
“That would ruin the fun, bug. You look fine, and it’s going to be fun, so just take a chill pill.”
“Can you give me a hint?”
“You’ve never been to this before.”
“Ben, that’s a lot of places.”
“Then I guess it’ll just be a good surprise.”
Ben glanced over at her, taking one hand off the steering wheel to place it on her thigh. He gave her a reassuring squeeze, then brought his hand back up to the wheel and put on the blinker to turn. Rey sighed in defeat and looked out the window, hoping for some kind of clue as to where they were going.
Hapes County Fairgrounds, a sign they passed read.
“No way,” Rey said, breathless.
Ben looked over at her and cocked an eyebrow.
“Are you taking me to the fair?” Rey said excitedly.
“If I am?” Ben smirked.
“Ben fucking Solo, I love you so much.”
“We’ll be there in about seven minutes,” he smiled.
For Rey, that was the longest seven minutes of her life. As a child, she never got the opportunity to go to any fair that came through town due to her lack of funds and no parent willing to pay the entrance or for tickets.
Pulling into the parking lot, Rey seemed to be vibrating in her seat. Ben pulled into a spot and put the car in park. Grabbing his wallet, unbuckling, and exiting the car, he made his way to Rey’s side of the car, opening the door for her, holding a hand out for her.
The moment they entered the fairgrounds, the air smelled like a mix of fried foods, sweat, grass, and dirt. Ben and Rey walked toward the ticket booth, purchasing as many tickets as two twenty-dollar bills could afford.
“Where to?”
“Food?” Rey said, looking up at him. “I don’t know what smells so good, but it definitely has made me so hungry.”
Ben offered out his arm, and Rey took it without hesitation.
The duo grabbed their food and sat down on a picnic bench set out between the hordes of food trucks. Kids are running around with their parents in tow, high schoolers are either with a group of friends or on what looks like a first date. Rey had dove into the food she got (a corn dog--her first one ever) and Ben was about to start on his order of fried Oreos. Every bite Rey took sounded more obscene than the last and Ben sort of wanted to take her behind one of the rides and kiss her silly, making sure that the next time one of those noises came out of her it was directly because of him, but promptly decided against it when she looked up at him and smiled with just a bit of ketchup on the corner of her mouth. He just leaned over the table and wiped it off with his thumb and Rey’s smile seemed to get larger than it was already.
“When you’re done, do you wanna go play some of those games? I’m pretty good at them,” Ben said, sitting back down on the bench.
“That sounds like a plan.” Rey shoved the rest of her corn dog down her throat. “I’m ready!”
Ben laughed at her eagerness, but gathered the trash and found the closest bin. He grabbed Rey’s hand and led her toward the game tents.
“This is my favorite one,” Ben said, dragging Rey up to one of the booths.
This booth was a water gun game where they had to hit the target long enough for one of them to hit the goal at the top. Ben handed enough tickets for both of them to play, and they grabbed the last two spots in the row of ten-some other kids. The host of the game said some obnoxious intro, but then the game began. Despite having fast reflexes, the seven-year-old three seats down won the game, getting to choose which stuffed animal he wanted. Ben walked over to the host and handed him more tickets. When he came back, Rey looked at him with a cocked eyebrow.
“I’m going to win you one.”
“Ben, that’s not necessary.”
“Of course it is. Now let’s get ready for the next round.”
It took Ben three more rounds, but eventually, he won. After letting out an excited yell, Ben stalked over to the host and picked out the absolute largest stuffed animal he could get and brought it over to Rey.
“You look like a lion who brought in a good kill, Ben,” Rey laughed.
“Only the best for my lioness, then,” Ben said, handing her the large penguin he picked out. Rey grabbed it and his hand and reached up to kiss him one on the lips and once on the cheek.
Using the hand she had grabbed, she led him around to other various rides around the fairground. The tilt-a-whirl was by far her favorite, and she went on it six times. Ben only made it two times before he had to go hug the bin nearest to the ride, giving Rey a thumbs up for the remaining four times she rode it by herself.
It was nearing the end of the night when Ben realized there was one thing they hadn’t done yet, and it was the one thing he really, truly wanted to do when he planned this night.
--
“Hey, Rey, how do you feel about heights?”
Rey made a noncommittal shrug while eating her funnel cake.
“Wanna go on the ferris wheel?”
“That sounds like fun,” she smiled. Ben noticed a bit of powdered sugar on the corner of her mouth and, instead of letting her know, licked the tip of his thumb and leaned over to wipe it off.
Once she threw away the plate that the funnel cake came on, they made their way to the ferris wheel. The line was, surprisingly, not long, probably due to it being a Tuesday night and almost 10 pm. It took maybe ten minutes to get through the line and on a gondola, and off they were. Eventually, they were stopped, and though not at the top, they were facing out and able to see the skyline.
“This is gorgeous,” Rey said, entranced by the view.
“I love you,” Ben replied.
Rey’s head snapped to look at him.
“Huh?”
“I love you, Rey,” he said once more with more emotion in his voice.
They both sat in silence with the sounds of the remaining children screaming in joy, the music filling the air, and the bells and whistles of the games and rides in the background. Several seconds passed with nothing said between the two, and it was obvious that Ben was starting to panic.
“I do too,” she finally broke the silence. “I love you, too.”
“Oh, good,” Ben breathed in relief.
“Did you think I wasn’t going to say it back?” Rey smiled, scooting closer to him on the bench in the gondola.
“Sure seemed like it for a second there.”
“Well, I do. And I never realized how much I wanted to hear that until you said it.”
Rey placed a hand on his cheek and leaned up to kiss him lovingly.
“I love you so much, Ben Solo.”

Shit happens, and what of insight, and of gratitude?   10-11-20
"It doesn’t matter if your glass is half full or half empty as long as half is filled with gratitude" - Harlan Wheeler (?)
What do we do when life happens? Because it does.
It always does. Right in the middle of something that feels (un)interruptable, it does. Life always happens right at the head of some of the most intricate, “looking forward to”, planned events.
In the moment, it can still .
 . . get me,
 . . get at me,
. . get to me. That’s probably the better fit.
The life I live, that I share with so many, keeps my well-intentioned plans strong and our life full. Like full, full. It’s been this way for quite a while now. Really, ever since I moved back from Washington, but even more so these last few months. Needing a day planner and event style calendar at home just to keep up with all the fullness. Lol no lol
I wouldn’t have it any other way though. It is absolutely the whole reason I moved back in the first place.
Making sure to plan down days, or weekends alone, can be trying sometimes, but those limited deathbed regrets can be ever so satisfying, so long as they don’t overwhelm us. For the most part, I, or we as it were, now, do pretty well.
This whole thing in my head started the other day as we had this big full day planned for this weekend at a pumpkin patch with all the kids, and grandkids. Some couldn’t make it, or changed plans because as we said, life happens, plans change, and not just for me, but for any and every other person in my life, … in the world actually.
So what do we do with things we can’t do anything about? Well, duh, we continue onward with our optimistic lifestyle as best we can. Which for me, is slightly above par, and more positive and optimistic than a lot of others I suppose. Bouncebacks are easier for me these days too though, which is good considering I still fall short of the bar a lot. It’s the curbing of the over reactionary parts that I still need to work on.
Being frustrated, or stressed, or disappointed are all things I’m trying to limit. But, it’s why I write about them so much. I need them fresh, and at the forefront of my mind, and of course, my heart. It’ll all be second nature one day if it kills me. Lol
Outside of canceled, rescheduled, or interrupted plans my life is still on course for more than my fair share of good things, and amazing people to be grateful for. My life is nothing more than blessings or lessons, for real. I call what I see, for how it holds my truth. Like not exaggerating at all for me to see what I need at the time I need it, which isn’t always in "my" time.
Life sets its own time, its own pace. Sometimes I’m only along for the ride. My downtimes or slipped moments rarely last very long anymore anyways. It helps to really recognize that everything really does pass. It’s all only temporary, so finding the goodness in everything is my everything. Its why our short time here, together, is so precious. Short, but on point.
Please continue to share the love and laughter with the world around you. You already know, I will do the same from here. We can still change the world, together, one small act of kindness at a time, huh?? Civility, only where true kindness doesn’t quite fit, for which there are a few.
Shit happens? The sooner we realize that its life, and not shit, and that it does just happen, the better off we’ll all be.
Until next time;
“I am convinced that the world is not a mere bog in which men and women trample themselves and die. Something magnificent is taking place here amidst the cruelties and tragedies, and the supreme challenge to intelligence is that of making the noblest and best in our curious heritage prevail.” - Charles A. Beard
It's strange, ya know? This life of ours. I feel like I am finally starting to understand some of the more misunderstood parts of it though.
I wrote the above entry toward the beginning of this week, like maybe Monday or Tuesday.
It was my way of getting through stress and mild frustration of the plans getting "undone", before they even started. It was a push for myself in the direction of acceptance. So much. So needed.
It is now Sunday morning. The Fun Farm pumpkin patch trip is today at 2 pm, with about half our kids and grandkids. Half was the whole problem the other day, as some of them started pulling out of today's plans.
We made concessions that turned our Saturday into a much more full day with the ones that weren't going to be able to make today.
From breakfast to lunch with all of them out in the country, and even added a couple of hours to see, or help our mommas for a couple of hours. Then my youngest granddaughter came to spend the night, then her daughters brought her grandaughter over for a few hours as well. A very full evening to match the day. We didn't lack any quality of time I assure you. Frozen 2 with fresh, warm cookies and ice cream too, and the girls played together.
When I wonder what my role is in the lives of those I love, I am constantly reminded I am right where I need to be, doing exactly what I'm supposed to be doing for each and every one of them. To just love them, and do my very best to make sure they know it.
I am doing life ok I think. I wouldn't change any part of any of it.
I'm one half of a whole idiot, and I love it.
I realize this makes this entry terribly long, but it feels terribly worth the addition. If I just stay out of my own way sometimes, things turn so much better than I thought they were going to be in the first place.
It's full, not flooded. lol
Again, until next time;
“These mountains that you are carrying, you were only supposed to climb.” ~ Najwa Zebian

(11:07) Why the fuck would you do that.
(11:08) im a rational guy (11:08) but when things happen (11:09) they happen
(11:10) I changed my mind. (11:10) I’m not letting Tobio anywhere near you. You are the worst role model for him.

(11:23) I’m a research assistant.
(11:24) doesnt mean you dont know how
(11:24) Amber DNA is too deteriorated for any type of resurrection.
(11:24) but if you could (11:25) would you
(11:25) Yes.
(11:26) million dollar question which dino though
(11:27) Velociraptor, duh.
(11:27) not a t rex?
(11:28) T-rexes were lumpy potatoes with useless arms. (11:28) Velociraptors had claws on their hind legs for disembowelling prey. (11:28) You tell me which one’s superior.
(11:29) youre so fired up its great (11:29) keep talking dinos to me
(11:31) I would but I have articles to type up before tomorrow.
(11:31) what an aDULTY ADULT (11:31) doing his JOB AND HAVING PROSPECTS

(11:37) That was very poetic.
(11:38) you like poetry?
(11:38) I don’t mind it.
(11:39) hypothetically (11:39) could bad poetry seduce you
(11:40) Hypothetically (11:40) No.
(11:40) damn
(11:41) I bet you’re the type of person to fall for sappy crap like that.
(11:41) damn right (11:41) in elementary school a girl wrote me a poem (11:42) we dated all the way from recess to lunch

(8:15) Oh, you mean Akiteru taking Tobio to the recreation centre?
(8:15) I SAW STARS IN HIS EYES TSUKKI
(8:16) Tobio said he had a lot of fun. (8:16) I’ve never seen him so animated before.

(8:17) Don’t spoil him.
(8:18) no promises (8:18) your blueberry son is everything that is good and pure in this world (8:18) im so proud of you
(8:19) Me??
(8:19) well you made him
(8:19) You must’ve slept through Biology in high school because making a child is a two-person job.
(8:20) clearly tobio got his good looks from you
(8:20) We literally look nothing alike.
(8:21) are you telling me tobio has two beautiful parents (8:21) lies (8:22) pics or it didnt happen
(8:22) ...
(8:23) i just realised how that sounded (8:23) and i in no way meant to ask you for a picture of you sleeping with tobios mother

(8:31) She gets that a lot.

(8:32) No point. We’re not together.
(8:33) i figured if you were you wouldve said something earlier (8:33) so let me guess (8:33) she cheated on you
(8:34) No.
(8:35) you cheated on her
(8:35) No. (8:35) Do I look like a cheater?
(8:35) hey i dont stereotype
(8:35) There was no cheating. Just unfortunate circumstances.
(8:36) one night stand accidental baby?
(8:36) Yeah, close enough.
(8:37) thats tough (8:37) it happened to my older sister too (8:37) but she ended up marrying the guy (8:37) they were like fuck yeah lets be a family (8:38) so now im the proud uncle of a literal ball of snot
(8:39) That was Akiteru when he held Tobio for the first time. (8:39) He couldn’t stop crying. (8:39) It was gross.
(8:40) dude was holding the future in his hands (8:40) of course he was crying
(8:40) You cried when you held your literal ball of snot for the first time, didn’t you?

(1:33) not... your ex?
(1:34) She can’t be my ex if we never went out.
(1:34) idk you had a one night stand with her
(1:34) It’s complicated.
(1:35) have i reached level five friend yet
(1:35) …
(1:35) im here to listen
(1:37) I guess you might be a level five friend.
(1:37) hell yeah
(1:37) I can’t believe this. I don’t even know you.
(1:38) im hurt (1:38) you just blessed me as your level five friend
(1:40) I don’t know where to start.
(1:40) lets start small (1:40) howd you meet her
(1:40) Shimizu was my senior in high school. (1:40) We weren’t close but we kept in touch after she graduated. (1:40) Study tips and stuff like that.
(1:41) thats cute (1:41) sounds innocent
(1:41) It wasn’t ever anything more than that. (1:42) We just (1:43) There’s a lot to learn about yourself when you’re a teenager. (1:43) And we thought we could help each other out.
(1:44) seems like you two trusted each other a lot
(1:44) We did. (1:44) Do. (1:44) But there was never a relationship. (1:45) We slept together but neither of us really wanted it.
(1:46) what do you mean?
(1:46) I’m gay. (1:46) Shimizu’s ace. (1:46) We both cried afterwards. (1:47) Pathetic, right.
(1:47) i dont think thats pathetic at all (1:47) you bared your vulnerabilities to each other (1:47) and learned something about yourselves in the process (1:48) it takes a lot of courage to do something like that
(1:49) I guess.
(1:50) so tobio was the result of that huh
(1:50) Yeah. (1:50) It was bad. (1:50) Our families were so pissed at each other. (1:51) They talked about abortion and marriage and all that shit.
(1:51) i dont envy you at all (1:51) that mustve been a complete shit storm and a half
(1:51) Shimizu and I considered a platonic marriage. (1:52) But we didn’t want to do something neither of us wanted again.
(1:52) so wedding nay but baby yay
(1:52) Tobio lived with Shimizu. (1:52) Until she got a job offer in America. (1:53) She thought a new country would’ve been too much for him. (1:53) You know how that turned out.
(1:54) stomping sandcastles and chucking buckets (1:54) i still think tobios a champ
(1:55) Dickwad.
(1:55) i love you too babe (1:55) but seriously you and tobio have been doing a lot better (1:56) hes talking to you and his teacher said he was playing with other kids
(1:56) Tobio had (1:56) He’d settled. (1:56) He’d looked at me. (1:57) But one glance at Shimizu today and (1:58) It was like I didn’t exist again. (1:58) Fuck. (1:58) I can’t do this.
(1:58) hey hey hey (1:58) tobio was just excited to see his mum (1:58) four months right (1:59) he wouldve missed her like crazy (1:59) he wants kisses and cuddles (1:59) doesnt mean hes forgotten his old man
(2:00) First of all, I’m not old.
(2:02) ... (2:02) second of all??
(2:02) I don’t have a second of all.
(2:03) LOLOLOL
(2:03) Shut up, I’m emotional right now.
(2:03) naww babe (2:03) youre just overthinking things (2:03) talk to tobio (2:03) hes five but he understands shit (2:04) tell him you love him just as much as his mum does (2:04) then throw in a vball reference or something idk
(2:04) You’re so helpful.
(2:04) even if tobio doesnt understand everything (2:04) verbalising will help sort out your emotions
(2:05) I thought you were doing Sports Medicine, not Psychiatry.
(2:05) i am an old man with decades of wisdom
(2:05) There it is.
(2:05) what?
(2:05) STRANGER DANGER.
(2:06) i cant believe (2:06) i walked right into that one
(2:06) Lol.
(2:06) feeling better?
(2:07) Yeah. (2:07) Thanks for listening to me vent. (2:07) It did help clear my head.
(2:08) thats what level five friends are for
(2:09) I’m still sorry about missing practice this morning. (2:09) Can I make it up to you?
(2:09) how about (2:09) lets do this properly (2:10) and go on a real date
(2:11) I (2:11) You want that?
(2:11) youre intelligent witty and hilarious (2:11) you love your son and would do anything for him (2:12) plus youre the most beautiful person ive ever seen (2:12) theres no reason i wouldnt want to
(2:12) Wow.
(2:12) thats a very lacklustre reaction
(2:13) No, I’m just (2:13) Surprised.
(2:13) good or bad surprised?
(2:13) Good surprised. (2:13) I didn’t expect you to be so straightforward.
(2:14) i have literally been calling you babe and sweetheart and dear
(2:14) I thought flirtation was an integral part of your personality. (2:14) Am I wrong to assume you flirt with everyone?
(2:14) well no (2:15) i joke around a lot (2:15) but i mean it with you (2:15) youre amazing in every way
(2:16) I really don’t know what to say to that.
(2:16) how does this sound (2:16) you me and tobio (2:16) at the park tomorrow (2:16) picnic and volleyball
(2:18) You’d want Tobio there?
(2:18) of course hes my favourite (2:18) and also because hes important to you
(2:18) Nice save.
(2:18) so picnic?
(2:18) Yeah. (2:18) I’d like that. (2:19) Tobio’s excited too. (2:19) He says he’ll help make riceballs.
(2:19) thats the cutest fucken thing ive heard all day (2:19) BOKTUO BRO HIGH FIVE ME IM GOING ON A PICNIC WITH TSUKKI AND TOBIO TOMORROW ADN IVE NEVER BEEN THIS EIXCITED IN MY ENTIRE LIFE
(2:19) Kuroo.
(2:19) uhh (2:20) wrong number (2:21) fuck it NO REGRETS
.
Sunday AM
(9:12) Hello, is this Kuroo?
(9:15) yeess (9:15) whos this
(9:17) My name is Shimizu Kiyoko.
(9:17) wait as in (9:17) tsukki and tobios shimizu??
(9:18) Yes.
(9:18) uhh hey (9:18) not that i dont want to talk to you (9:18) but why do you have my number
(9:19) I took it from Tsukishima’s phone. (9:19) Our last few conversations he mentioned your name and it piqued my curiosity.
(9:19) tsukki talks about me?
(9:20) He doesn’t think you’re a nuisance. (9:20) That’s very rare.
(9:20) what can i say (9:20) im charming when i want to be
(9:20) Tobio is quite taken with you. (9:21) That’s also very rare. (9:21) You’re the exception to the rule; I’m sure you understand why I’m curious.
(9:22) i guess but i dont know if theres much to say (9:22) we all just like volleyball
(9:22) Your influence helped smooth out their relationship.
(9:22) it wasnt much (9:22) i just mentioned vball and things went from there (9:22) it was all them
(9:23) You helped them find common ground in their lives. (9:23) I know how difficult it was for them beforehand.
(9:23) they wouldve figured things out eventually (9:23) theyre amazing as they are
(9:24) You sound fond of them.
(9:24) i am (9:24) tobios a good kid (9:24) and tsukki makes me laugh (9:24) mostly at my own expense (9:24) but i like that he doesnt hold back
(9:25) Tsukishima holds you in similar thoughts. (9:25) He’d never admit it but I know him well enough.
(9:25) so this conversation (9:25) are you basically sussing out whether or not im a piece of shit
(9:25) Yes.
(9:25) how am i doing so far
(9:27) You’re fine.
(9:27) oh thank god
(9:27) I don’t understand. You sound relieved?
(9:27) well youre tobios mum (9:27) and tsukki has a lot of respect for you (9:28) so your opinions pretty important
(9:30) I’m surprised. Not many others would consider that.
(9:31) idk it makes sense
(9:32) I’m glad Tsukishima found someone who accepts our unusual circumstances. (9:32) I was afraid my decision to keep Tobio would affect his future relationships.
(9:32) tsukki wouldnt care about people like that anyway (9:33) hed give tobio the world before he gave it to anyone else (9:33) but who wouldnt for a kid like that
(9:35) I think the same, but I may be biased.
(9:35) tobios earnest and hardworking (9:36) determined to challenge himself (9:36) you raised a good kid
(9:36) Thank you. That means a lot to me.
(9:36) its the truth (9:36) so i have passed your inspection or nah
(9:39) There’s a lot I want to say but I’ll keep it brief for both our sakes.
(9:39) yikes
(9:40) I care for Tsukishima and Tobio so much more than I can put into words. (9:40) I hope it means something that I think you’re good for them.
(9:41) oh (9:41) yeah (9:41) yeah it does (9:41) thanks (9:41) im not eloquent enough for this (9:42) but i care a lot for them too (9:42) and ill take care of them (9:42) for as long as theyll have me (9:42) for as long as youll let me
(9:44) I can see why Tsukishima and Tobio like you.
(9:44) tsukki only likes me for my biceps
(9:44) Funny. (9:44) Tsukishima is actually reading this over my shoulder.
(9:45) uh oh (9:45) is he sulking now
(9:45) A little bit. (9:45) He does have a weakness for muscles.
(9:46) I KNEW IT (9:46) AHAHAHAHAHA (9:46) hes never going to live this down
(9:47) Oh, I shouldn’t have let that slip. (9:47) Tsukishima’s mad at me now.
(9:47) bless his sensitive soul
(9:47) He’s telling Tobio to spike a ball into your face.
(9:48) what
(9:48) Tobio might actually do it.
(9:48) shimizu (9:48) i know were merely acquaintances (9:49) but help
(9:50) Strawberry shortcake. (9:50) It’s Tsukishima’s favourite.
(9:50) thats adorable (9:50) i owe you one
(9:50) Then take care of them. (9:50) Or I’ll take care of you.
(9:51) wh
(9:51) Have fun on your date. (9:51) Tobio will tell me all about it. (9:51) :)

PART ONE! PART TWO PART THREE
Your life has been great ever since you got fired. Which was an odd sentence to say but still very true.
After you got fired that day, you immediately vented your feelings out by writing them all down. This is what you went to college for after all, you were a major literature and writing. And writing always made you feel better.
After a couple hours later and a lot of typing, you got an email. You saved your document and leaned back to stretch. As you went to open the email, you recognized the address as Mr. Hamilton’s.
Dear (Y/N),
I know this may seem unprofessional but with the current circumstances of your job I do believe this is appropriate and necessary. I am truly sorry about what happened in the office and Miss Maria Reynolds told me the reasons why Laf and Jefferson had let you go, which is quite preposterous.
You raised your eyebrows. You didn’t know Mr. Hamilton and Maria were close.
I am very good friends with Lafayette and it seems very unlike him to fire someone without any good reason. And although Jefferson and I do not get along, even he isn’t that big of an asshole to do something like this, excuse my language.
You giggled at this.
The reason why I emailed you was because you are truly an amazing person, not just as a secretary, and I am checking to see if you are alright. I enjoyed the talks we had in my office and I will deeply miss them. I hope to receive a reply soon!
Sincerely,
Alexander Hamilton
You smiled sadly as this. Sometimes you would get in trouble because you and Mr. Hamilton would stay in his office and just talk about the most random things. Although most of the time, it was just one of you ranting about something to the other, but you are still going to miss that and him.
You were about to simply type back a “Thank you, I am fine” but instead you opened up your document you were working on and copied and pasted it to send it to him. You added a little note at the bottom thanking him for his concern and saying that you also will miss him.
With that you shut your laptop, the events of the day finally catching up to you leaving you drained of energy. You looked at the clock to see it read 12:48 AM and you laughed.
Only Mr. Hamilton would send an email at this hour, you thought sleepily as you yawned.
With that you dragged yourself to bed and fell into a dreamless sleep.
~
You didn’t know that sending Mr. Hamilton (you now call him Alex) your paper about how you felt about That Day would change your life. After reading it, Alex sent it to his sister-in-law who was the CEO at a big newspaper company. She absolutely loved and asked you to become a writer at her company.
Seven months later you climbed to the top and became a head writer in The Schuyler Times. You couldn’t be more proud of yourself and you wouldn’t trade your job for the world.
You became very good friends with Angelica Schuyler, the woman who hired you, and you became a well known writer across the east coast.
You never missed your old job, but you would miss a couple of the friends you made while working their. Every once in a while you would meet up with Maria and Alex to see how they were doing, but they were the only ones you kept in touch from your old work.
One day, you were writing an article about a local robbery that happened last night when you got a text from Alex.
mr. nonstop: (2:03 PM)
omg u would not believe what i found out
mr. nonstop: (2:03 PM)
(Y/N) answer it’s so important there’s so much drama
mr. nonstop: (2:03 PM)
it’s such juicy gossip
mr. nonstop: (2:03 PM)
PLS answer i must tell you
you: (2:04 PM)
what alex im working i get off at 3
mr. nonstop: (2:04 PM)
OH PERFECT can you meet me at the coffee shop by my building at 330? i believe this will be better if i told you in person :D
Your eyebrows raised at this. It didn’t sound bad, but you knew it had something to do with you, and you can’t resist talking about drama. You texted back “sure” and went back to work.
Time flew by and you hauled a cab to meet Alex at the normal coffee shop you both went to talk shit about people.
You checked your watch and saw it was 5 til 3:30, but you already spotted Alex gulping down his coffee at your normal table while shaking his leg vigorously as his eyes roamed around the café.
The gossip must be very good today, you thought.
His eyes widened when he saw you and grinned mischievously as he waved you over.
“Ok, here’s your frappuccino!” He handed you your drink as you sat down. “Now let’s get to the good stuff.”
You took a sip of your drink and waited for him to start.
“So obviously a couple months ago you got ‘let go’,” He said as he put sarcastic quotations around “let go”.
You rolled your eyes and nodded.
“So since you got fired, Lafayette and Jefferson needed a new secretary, right?” He said with a smirk.
You put down your drink at this, you totally didn’t think about how your old bosses would need a new vict-assistant to hire.
“They hired this one guy but fired him the next week, then they hired this girl who was there for a month then quit, after they they hired a girl who they, no joke, fired the next day,” Alex went on.
Your eyes widened as Alex kept talking about how many secretaries Mr. Lafayette and Mr. Jefferson have gone through.
“…So in total for the past seven months they have gone through twelve secretaries, (Y/N). Twelve!” Alex laughed as he slammed his coffee down. “I feel so bad for the one working right now, I swear they cry whenever Laf barely talks to them sternly.”
You chuckled with Alex but you still couldn’t believe it.
Twelve assistants? Nobody is that picky about assistants.
“But that’s not the juicy part!” Alex suddenly stopped laughing.
“It’s not? Because that sounds pret-ty good to me.” You said as you stirred your whipped cream with your straw.
Alex scooted closer to you, “I found the real reason why you got fired.”
You snapped your eyes up to his, “The what?”
Alex chuckled sinisterly and leaned back against his chair, “They didn’t fire you because you were distracted,”
He leaned closer and whispered into your ear, “They fired you because you were distracting.”
You moved your head away from his and looked at him to see if he was really saying what he you think he was saying.
Alex nodded his head and took a sip of coffee, “Oh yes, (Y/N), they were distracted by you.”
You jaw dropped as he confirmed what you thought he was saying.
“There’s no way!” You gasped. “Who told you this?”
Alex then told you how he eavesdropped-
“Overheard!” Alex would object.
How he eavesdropped on a conversation between Jefferson and Lafayette.
“Apparently they couldn’t handle wanting to jump your bones every time they called you into their office, so they had to fire you. Lafayette kept saying you were ”*une belle fleur” and Jefferson said you were “a sight for sore eyes.”
You laughed hard as he did (very bad) impressions of the two of them and he started cackling with you. Afterwards, you wiped the tears from your eyes, but then you remembered what Alex said.
“So, is that all you came to tell me?” You asked Alex.
He shook his head, “I think you should stop by the office and say hi to a couple friends. I’m sure a couple people missed you, some more than others.” He winked and with that he was off, waving goodbye and yelling he hopes to see you soon. That night he texted you to come “stop by” the office next Tuesday.
You left him on read.
~
The next week came soon enough and you texted Angelica that you’re taking the day off.
you: (7:17 AM)
hey angie im not gonna be at work today i have some…stuff to take care of
angie: (7: 21 AM)
make sure you make them regret firing you ;)
You froze and re-read the text again.
Of course Alex would tell her, you thought. He can’t keep his big mouth shut.
You dressed nice today, not because you wanted to impress people. Oh no, you’re a well-known writer! You can dress whenever you want because you can!
You were walking into your former building when you heard someone behind you call your name.
“Hey (Y/N), dressed to impress a certain pair a people, huh?” Alex asked teasingly as he fell into step with you.
You blushed and grumbled, “Shut it, Hamilton. I can dress nice if I want to dress nice.”
Alex held his hands up in defense and went to press the both button 10 and 11 of the elevators.
Nice to see they’re still working, you thought sarcastically.
As the elevator neared the 11th floor, you quickly became nervous. You started fidgeting with your hands and straightening your shirt more times than you could count.
You felt Alex put a hand on your shoulder, “Hey, you don’t have to do this you don’t want to. I’m sorry if you felt pressured to do this.”
You shook your head a took a deep breath, “No it’s fine, Alex. I think it’s best if I do this. Plus, I really wanna see that new secretary they have.”
Both of you laughed and the elevator dinged that you finally arrived at the Alex’s floor.
Alex walked out while you held the door to keep it from closing. You looked around to see that nothing had changed which made you smile.
You looked at Alex, “Is Jefferson or Lafayette in today?”
“That’s why I wanted you to come in specifically today,” He smiled. “Both of them are here.”
Your eyes widened while Alex smirked.
He’s really enjoying this, isn’t he?
“Alright I’ve gotta go, (Y/N). I have a meeting with Washington.” He said with a wave.
You waved goodbye to Alex and told him you would meet up with him soon.
It only took a few seconds to get to the next floor. The elevator dinged again and you took a deep breath and stepped out. You walked around, trying to find someone you recognized when you saw Maria.
“Maria!”
Her head snapped up from the paperwork she was working up and a bright grin appeared on her face.
You both met each other halfway with a big hug.
“Oh my gosh, (Y/N)! Look at you dressed all fancy and competing in the big leagues!” She said as she stepped back from you hug. “God I missed you!”
You both caught up with each other and she led you around the room until you reached your old cubicle. You saw a woman typing frantically on the computer while talking on the phone to someone and being surrounded by enormous piles of paper. You grimaced as you were reminded of your days being stuck in the same position as her.
“Yeah that’s their new secretary,” Maria whispered into your ear. “Have you heard she’s their-”
“Twelfth one? Yeah I’ve heard.” You interrupted.
You both walked away and passed by both Mr. Jefferson’s and Mr. Lafayette’s office and saw both were empty. Maria noticed your confused expression and quickly explained they were having a meeting with Washington downstairs. The same meeting Alex is in. The same floor Alex is on.
“Y'know Maria? I’m gonna go say hi to Al- Mr. Hamilton and I’ll be on my way. It was so nice seeing you again.” You smiled as you gave her another hug.
You decided to take the stairs down to see Alex since he was only a floor away. On your way down the stairs you texted him asking if he was done with the meeting since you didn’t want to wait for him.
you: (9:01 AM)
are u done with ur meeting?
mr. nonstop: (9:01 AM)
yeah just finished! im in my office come stop by
mr. nonstop: (9:02 AM)
u might hear me talking to people in my office but just come on in it’s fine ;)
You didn’t know why he added the winky face, but you shrugged it off. As you neared his office, you couldn’t help but feel something was off, but you kept moving forward. You opened the door to see Alex and Jefferson yelling at each other while Lafayette tried to calm them down. Alex was the only one to notice you walk in as the other two men’s back were facing the door.
“(Y/N)!” Alex exclaimed as he jumped from behind his desk to give you a hug. “I didn’t know you were stopping by today! What a nice surprise!”
As he hugged you he whispered to play along and you huffed and rolled your eyes.
You pulled out of the hug, “Hey Alex! I was just passing by and I couldn’t miss a chance to see you.”
Alex gave you a wink to signal that you’re doing great.
“Oh Lafayette! Jefferson!” He turned to the two men who were gaping at the two of you. “You remember (Y/N), right?”
Your two former bosses gulped and nodded, still unable to form any words.
“How have you guys been?” You asked sweetly with a big smile.
The two just stared until Jefferson nudged Lafayette.
“U-um…we’ve been f-fine, (Y/N). How about you? Do you have a new job?”
You were about to answer when Alex beat you to it.
“Well actually they work for my sister-in-law! They are one of the head writers at The Schuyler Times and one of the biggest names on the east coast!” He said proudly.
Both men looked even more shocked than before.
“W-wow (Y/N), that’s great!” Jefferson finally spoke.
You smiled, “Well I better be on my way! I’m a very busy person and I just wanted to stop by and say hi to Alex!”
Alex went up and hugged you again, but this time he kissed your cheek.
“Make sure to text me when you get home!” He said as you walked out.
You nodded and walked out of his office, finally relaxing your shoulders. You were about to get in the elevator when a pair of hands grabbed you and shoved you into an empty room. You squealed and saw that Mr. Jefferson had been the one to grab you.
“How long have you and Hamilton been dating?” Jefferson asked you.
Your eyes widened at his bluntness. You peeked over his shoulder and saw Mr. Lafayette staring at you with crossed arms.
“I-well we aren’t…uh…dating.” You stammered.
Mr. Jefferson took a step back from you.
“Then what was with all the hugging?” He asked.
“And him kissing your cheek and to text him when you got home?” You heard Mr. Lafayette spit out as he walked over to the both of you.
You blushed, “I have no idea,” You started backing into a corner. “Alex and I are friends, but he usually is never affectionate like that…”
Mr. Jefferson put his hands on either side of your head against the wall, trapping you.
“Oh so you call him Alex now?” He growled his name.
You furrowed your eyebrows and look straight into his eyes, “Whoever I’m friends with and I date is none of your concern! Of either one of your concerns!” You yell as you look over to Mr. Lafayette and push Mr. Jefferson away. “From what I remember you were the ones that fired me! So I shouldn’t even have to be speaking with the two of you!”
You started walking towards the door but you felt a gentle hand grabs yours.
“Oui, we’re sorry (Y/N). We just…” You heard Lafayette say.
You turned around and motioned for him to continued.
He looked over at Mr. Jefferson for some kind of reassurance and looked back at you, “We let you go because we…like you too much, ma chérie.”
You gasped. You know that Alex told you the same thing, but actually hearing it from them makes it completely different.
“We couldn’t take the way how flawless you looked everyday. With your gorgeous eyes and hair. We couldn’t take how intelligent you are and-”
Lafayette was interrupted when you gasped again, but this time it was because you felt Mr. Jefferson wrap his arms from behind you.
“We couldn’t take the way your hips would move when you walk or how your eyes sparkled. We especially couldn’t take it whenever the word ‘Sir’ came out of your pretty little mouth.”
You whimpered at this, you didn’t know how much more you could take.
“Ma chérie,” Lafayette asked. “Would you be willing for us to make it up to you? You can come over to our house tonight and have dinner.”
“W-well uh Mr. Lafa-” You started to stammer.
“Mon amour, just call me Laf.”
You blushed at the new nickname. You were used to “ma chérie”, but this was new.
You felt Mr. Jefferson kiss down your neck, “And you can call me Thomas, darling.”
You shuddered at his administrations and nodded.
“How 'bout this, darling? You doll yourself up and come over to our place around 8. Then we can treat you to dinner,” Mr. Je-Thomas said. “And then at the end of the night we can make everything up to you.” He whispered.
This time you shuddered and whimpered, already ready for what may come.
Laf pulled you out of Thomas’s grasp to pull you into his.
“Here’s our address, ma chréie,” Laf gave you both his and Thomas’s number along with the address. “We’ll be waiting, mon amour.”
The three of you then walked out of the room, trying to look as inconspicuous as possible. But Alex caught your eye when the elevator doors were closing and winked at you.
This was quite a turn of events for you.
~
When you got home, it took a while for you to comprehend that you’re going on a date. With two men. Who were your former bosses.
When 5 o'clock rolled around, you changed into your favorite “night out” outfit, which made you look sexy but still very classy.
You had to control your breathing as your GPS told you that you were nearing their house.
It’s ok (Y/N), you told yourself. You look hot and you’ll do fine. They’ve seen you at your worst, you’ll be fine.
As you pulled up to park, your mouth dropped. Their house was huge!
It’s not even a house! More like a mansion! You said to yourself.
You shakily made your way up the stair and rung the doorbell. You nervously fiddled with your outfit until the door opened and your jaw dropped.
You know how usually when you see men in suits it usually makes them hotter? It wasn’t true for you since you see men in suits all the time. But behind the door you saw Thomas and Laf in completely normal and comfortable clothing which somehow made then ten times hotter.
“(Y/N)! You look amazing as always, darling.” Thomas said as he and Lafayette led you in.
You looked around at the grand room and couldn’t help but gawk at it.  You were stopped when you smelt something amazing coming from what you assumed to be the kitchen!
“I made pasta for us, ma chérie.” Lafayette told you. “It’s simple but I think you will like it.”
You grinned and nodded at him, unable to contain your excitement for the night.
After dinner all three of you decided to watch a movie. The three of you might have had a bit too much wine since you all ended up cuddling on the couch. You were enjoying the movie until you felt a hand wrap around your thigh. You looked and saw that Thomas was watching the movie as if he had done nothing different, so you shrugged and focused your attention back on the screen. A couple minutes later, however, another hand wrapped your other thigh.
You blushed and knew this was no mistake, but you weren’t going to say no to them. This is was you signed up for.
During the movie, both hands started creeping up your thighs until they reached just under your core.
You were already very needy from before, but this was driving you insane. You needed one of them to do something.
“Ma chérie, shall we continue this in the bedroom.” Laf whispered in your ear.
* une belle fleur = a beautiful flower

Montgomery x Reader Imagine (Part 2/?)
NOTE: Thanks for the good feed back, guys! So here comes part 2, unfortunately I’m stupid and in the middle of writing I realised I wrote this one in first person. Anyway, tell me which person do you prefer (I can try the third next time lol). This one is bit longer than the previous one, I hope you’ll like it xx *** I spent most of the Saturday with Sheri so I didn’t have much time to think about the hot tub thing, but Sunday… Most of the day I sat at my room, reading book, even though better word would be holding. I stared at one page for an hour and haven’t read a single word. Was I too hard on him? I mean, I joked around and made innuendos with all the jocks all the time, including Monty, but leaving him like that in the hot tub is something on a whole new level. Whatever, he started it and he deserved it. But memories of his lips and if his hands on my body still gave me chills. Fuck you, Montgomery, I whispered. Next day at school wasn’t anything special until I came to the chemistry lesson, a little bit late. “Please, take a sit, Ms. Y/L.N”, teacher barely even looked at me. I looked around the classroom and spotted last empty chair. Next to Montgomery.   “You gotta be kidding me”, I mumbled under my breath. “Hey, you”, I sat on my chair. “Hey”, he kinda acted normal, kinda stared at me. “How was the rest of the party, huh? You smoked some weed, play some video games?”, why am I like this, why did I even started this topic. “I had to jack off in the hot tub. Because of you”, he whispered through his clenched teeth. “Ew, does Bryce know about it?”, I prayed for him to shut up, afraid that someone would hear something and honestly, I couldn’t imagine anything some embarassing than people finding out that two of us made out. “You will regret it.” “Yeah, right”, I snorted. His hand went behind me and his fingers started running along my spine. I tensed up trying not to show that it had an effect on me. “Okay class”, teacher finally started lesson, “most of this semester, you’ll work in pairs, so look at your neighbour and say Hi to your new partner”. I slowly turned my head to look at Montgomery, now disgusted even more then when he mentioned jacking off in the hot tub. “What did you get in chemistry last semester?”, I asked. “What do I need to play in the team?” “C average or above”, everyone in sports teams said it like a mantra, it was literally the only condition, that has to be fulfilled to be in the team. “So it was C?”, I guessed. “Well, yeah, what did you get?” “A”, I sighed knowing all the work would be on me this semester. Next day I was in cafeteria, waiting in the line to get my food, wearing my cheerleader suit. “You’re looking good, you know?”, I heard annoying voice behind me. “Why don’t you just get ‘lookin’ good’ tattoed on your face?”, I answered bored. “Besides, you have seen me in cheerleader suit a thousand times.” “Yeah, but last Friday I took a good look at you in bathing suit…” “No way”, I interrupted him with sarcastic tone. “… And now I know what’s under it”, he continued. “What has gotten into you today?”, I asked, little bit shocked with his dirty talk. “I told you, you will regret”, he whispered. “So you gonna sexually harrass me for the rest of my life?”, I turned around to look at him and saw Clay Jensen coming up. “Hey, Jensen”, I said bit louder so he could hear. He waved at me and smiled. “Did you talk to Jeff?”, I asked. “US history and English will be kicking his ass once again.” “Yeah, I spoke to him and yeah I will tutor him”, he said as he walked by. “Thank you”, I gave him a high five. “You’re da best.” “Thanks, Y/N”. “Real MVP!”, you shouted and he laugh. I finally got my food, grabbed the tray and went to the table not waiting for Monty. I barely sat went Jessica came over with a smile on her face. “Okay, bitches, party at my place, Friday, 7pm”, she said, punched my arm and went. “Seriously, you have to stop doing it! Where are you going?”, I shouted. “To spread the news!” Friday came up and I really didn’t feel like coming. Again. “You always complain, but still come go the party and have a great time”, Jess said when we were walking home from school. “So stop making up excuses, or I swear I’ll slap you.” “You can’t fight with an argument like this, I guess”, I sighed. My parents didn’t have anything against the party, they didn’t put much interest in me as long as my grades were good and I was in cheerleaders team. I showed up at Jessica’s at 7, and was one of the firsts, because 7 really mean 9, but it was okay. My plan was to get buzzed (and I really wanted to get drunk that night) before party starts for good and to avoid Montgomery. Good thing was that after Tuesday talk in cafeteria he kinda stopped annoying me. By 10 pm I was properly drunk, so when Justin asked if I want to play spin the bottle with him and few other people of course I was like “Duh, fuck yeah”. I sat the floor between Sheri and Zach. “Hey, Monty, you play?”, Zach asked and moved slightly making place for Montgomery to sit between us. It didn’t really bothered me, because last three days he had been acting normal, so I thought he finally accepted the fact he got played. After few spins bottle pointed at me, I leaned towards Troy and gave him a quick kiss. I spinned the bottle and it pointed Monty. With poker I turned to him and kissed him as quickly as I did with Troy. He spinned and it pointed on me again. “Seriously?!”, I sighed. He quickly wrapped his arm around my neck, turned us, so people couldn’t really see our faces and kissed me stucking his tongue in my mouth. It lasted way too long than typical kiss in the game. “At least first bring her a drink, Montgomery”, Justin said and threw chips in our direction. “Easy, hot head”, I mumbled as I moved away without looking at his face. Few minutes later game was over, mostly because Jessica and Justin turned it into make out session. I got up and went to the kitchen, to make myself another drink and grab something to eat. One minute later I felt someone smacked my ass. “Did you just…”, I didn’t even have to look to know who it was. “You’re fucking disgusting, you know that?” “Maybe, but somehow I think you you’re into it and you like what is going on between us”, he took a sip of my drink without asking. “Oh my God, you’re also fucking ridiculous”, I said with my eyes wide open. “I’m too sober for that shit”, I drank whole drink at once. “You swallow fast”, he said with cocky smirk on his face. “One more word and I’ll throw up at you, I swear”. “Yo, Y/N”, I heard Jeff calling my name.  “Wanna go for a beer run with me?” “With pleasure”, I answered and run to him without even looking and Monty. In the car Jeff told me how he helped Clay and Hannah with their twisted situation, clearly proud of himself that for once he turned out to be smarter than Clay. “You’re good guy, Atkins”, I smiled at him. “All you want is to play baseball, have a good grades and help Clay with Hannah and that’s beautiful.” “Oh, come on, I’m gonna blush”, he laughed. “No seriously, I will tell every girl that you’re the most pure, sweetest cinnamon roll and that you’re different than others and don’t care about scoring". Weird grin showed up on his face. “You already scored today, didn’t you?”, I punched him in the arm. “I take my words back, you’re awful”, I laughed. “How does it happen that everyone make out with everyone, except me?“ “You know…”, Jeff moved in the seat. “It’s probably cause you always seem so… tied… And stressed” “Excuse me?”, I turned on the seat. “Well, you know, compared to other cheerleaders… Look, they don’t give a shit about anything, they don’t give a shit about school, about grades, they don’t give a shit even about cheerleading. And you care about everything and that’s why you seem more stressed than them”, he tried to explain. “Take a chill pill, make out with someone, have some fun”, he punched my arm. (Un)fortunately his words and the drink I drank and once before leaving for beer run, both hit me at the same time. Super drunk me decided to make out with somebody. Anybody. We came back, I left the car and started walking towards Jessica’s home, having big troubles with walking in straight line.   “Y/N, for fuck’s sake, just be careful”, Jeff shouted for me. “Yeah, yeah”, I mumbled getting into the house. I looked around and spotted Montgomery sitting on the couch, doing something of his phone. I went there, sat next to him and put my hand on his thigh. “It’s a party, Monty, put this phone away and have some fun”, I said. “Huh, look who’s gotten friendly”, he looked at me suspiciously. “I know, I’ve been a bitch but I went for that beer run with Jeff, you know, and I realized some things”. “Really, what things, for example?”, he put his arm around me. I didn’t answer him, I stared at his face instead, giggling. “God, you’re handsome”, I said glancing at his lips. “Okay, here’s what we gonna do”, he leaned towards me and whispered into my ear, “I’m gonna go upstairs, to Jessica’s room, and you’ll join me in few minutes”, his lips were touching my ear. I nodded my head, Monty quickly kissed me on the neck and basically run upstairs. “I’m gonna get laid”, I mumbled to myself. “I think I’m gonna get laid.” “Hey Y/N”, Jessica jumped on the couch. “Where have you been, I was looking for you.” “I was on a beer run with Jeff.” “Goood, I was afraid we run out of alcohol, but then Jeff came in like a Superman with sixpacks”, she giggled. “I think I need some water”, I smiled at her and left to the kitchen, I need to get rid of her. I poured myself a water, drank it and run upstairs. When I opened door to Jessica’s room, it was dark inside. I closed and locked the door. “Montgomery?”, I whispered. I heard steps behind me, second later Monty pushed me to the wall, grabbed my wrists put them above my head. His hands went down the sides of my body, until he grabbed my thighs and pulled me up, so I could wrap my legs around his waist. He laid me on the bed his lips went from my down neck to collarbones and started sucking it just like a week ago. “Monty”, I punched his arm. He pulled up, stroked cheek, and said, “Today I make the rules”, shiver went down my spine. “Fuck”, I mumbled. His hand went from my thigh to my breast and squizzed it. The other one pulled dress up, he started kissing my stomach, getting lower and lower, sucked my belly button, probably causing huge hickey around it, but I really fucking didn’t care. His head went up and he kissed my lips again. I felt his fingers sliding into panties which only turned me on more. I started unbottoning his shirt but he grabbed both of my wrists with spare hand. “Keep your hands yourself”, he whispered and slided his fingers into me. I scratched his back. “You like that?”, he asked as he curled his fingers and pumped them again and again. “Fuck, Montgomery, I want you, just fuck me already”, I moaned. “Does it turn you on?”, another pump. I nodded my head and bit my lip trying to not make any noices. It was dark, my eyes were closed, butcould sense fucking cocky smirk on his face. He slided out of me and sat bed. “Monty, why did you stop?”, I also sat on bed and switched the light on. He bottoned up two bottons I had undo and fixed his hair. “What the fuck are you doing?”, I asked. He stood up, leaned towards me and looking me in the eyes said, “Guess you can’t play the player, huh?” “Are you kidding me?”, I shouted. “It was fun, see you on Monday”, he unlocked the door, smiled at me and left the room. I sat there speechless for a few good minutes. “What the fuck did just happen?”, I asked myself out loud. I fixed my hair, took a deep breath and decided to go back to the party. “Fucking bastard”, I mumbled. I went down and sat on the couch next to Jess. “Why don’t you have any drink?”, she asked. “I’m good, thanks”. “You know, to be honest, you look a little fucked, break will be good for you”, she said, even though she was the one who was barely able to speak. “ Where the fuck is Justin?”, she looked around. “He’s playing beer pong with Montgomery”, Alex Standall sat on a chair in front of us. “Cool, thanks Alex”, Jessica got up. “You’re not coming?”, she asked me. “No thanks, I’m good, just gonna sit for a while”, I answered but she was gone before I even stopped talking. “How’s the party, Alex?” “I love her”, he mumbled, looking after Jess. “Oh God”, I rolled my eyes. “You two dated for like two months, year ago, seriously man, get over it”. “It’s love. It’s not logic”, he sighed. “Alex, I’m not saying this because I’m a bitch or because I root for Jessica and Justin. I’m saying this because you’re good and you deserve to be happy, okay? Move. On.” Said me. Person who couldn’t get over the fact that she got played by a player because she tried to get him played. Hypocrisy at it’s finest. I walked around the house, looking for Jeff, who was supposed to drive me home. Instead I bumped on Sheri. I pretended to listen to her while I was discretly watching Montgomery talking to some girl, wrapping his disgusting arm around her. “…are you even listening to me?”, she shaked my arm. “Umm, yeah, I was just… Looking at driveway, but I can’t spot Jeff’s car”, I lied quickly, in the meantime Monty got back inside. “He went for another beer run”. “Okay, I gotta go”, I smiled at her and went to the house. I saw de la Cruz shouting something to Justin as he was walking upstairs and then got into bathroom. I got you, you little fucker, I thought, went upstairs and stood next to door as if I was waiting in the line. “Are you waiting to get to the bathroom?”, Troy, the baseball player, patted my shoulder. “Yeah, yeah, I am”, I had to get rid of him, “Umm, you know… I feel a little bit sick, so it may take a moment…” “Are you gonna throw up?” “Maybe… As I said, it may take a moment. But you can use bathroom downstairs, it’ll probably be faster.” “Good idea, you’re smart”, he pointed at me. “Take care, Y/N” “Bye, Troy”, I chuckled watching him, when he was trying not to kill himself on the stairs. And I heard door getting unlocked. Montgomery opened them and then I pushed him back inside and locked the doors again. “We are finishing it now”, I said, grabbed his neck and kissed him.

Blink (An AU Fosters family fic) Chapter 60
CHAPTER 60
It’s 10 PM before everybody goes to bed.  Mom made time to take care of his bandaids.  Every night, it feels like a surprise, to be honest.  Jesus keeps assuming she’ll forget.  Or think doing this is making too big a deal out of it.  But she says it isn’t like that.  And afterward, they walk the house and make sure every door and every window is locked tight.
“Good night,” he offers Mom softly, giving her a hug.
It’s getting easier, the more he does it.  And it helps him to be able to accept hugs, too.  Feels affirming.  Like he matters.  Knowing that, he goes to find Mama, and gives her one, too.  He kisses his palm and and lays it on Frankie’s sleeping forehead, as Mariana carries her up to bed.  He circles around behind Mariana, and embraces her from behind, resting his chin on her shoulder.
“What’s this for?” she asks, leaning back into the embrace.
Jesus doesn’t say anything.  Just holds onto her, until he feels like she’s ready to be let go.
Then, it’s back to his room, to check on Pearl.  It’ll be after midnight there, but Jesus is guessing she’s probably not getting much sleep tonight.  So, he’ll call.  If her volume’s down, and she’s sleeping, but if she’s up, he’ll be able to let her know he’s there.
--
Pearl’s wide awake and staring at her phone when Jesus calls.
“Hey.  Are you okay?” she greets.
“Yeah.  You?” he checks.
“Not really.  Can’t sleep.  Can’t relax.  I tried swinging and journaling.  Nothing’s working.”
“Huh.  What if I tell you a really boring story?” he asks.
“Jesus, everything you’ve ever told me?  None of it qualifies as boring.”
“Uh-oh.  What should we do, then?” he asks seriously.
“What did you do tonight?  You’re up late.”
“We had ice cream as a family, and just kinda hung out together.”
“That’s so sweet…” Pearl sighs.  “You guys are like a sitcom family.  Like the Bradys or something…”
“The who?”
“Never mind.  I wish my family did those kinds of things.”
“We do,” Jesus adds without missing a beat.
“God, are you trying to make me cry right now?”
“No, it’s just...I meant it when I said you’re family.  I feel like you’re my older sister.  Like, we have Callie, but she’s practically our same age.  With you...it feels different…”
“Because I’m ancient?” Pearl remarks.
“Because you look out for me.  Because you feel adopted into our family.  It makes sense you don’t live with us because you’re old enough to be on your own. But that doesn’t mean you don’t have a home with us.”
Pearl wipes her eyes.  “I don’t know how you can make me feel things like this on such a horrid day…”
“It’s not, though,” he offers.  “For you, it’s a new day, right?  So you can start fresh.  The fam asked about you tonight, BTW.”
“They did?”
“Yeah.”
“Did you tell them I was a hot mess?”
“No.  You’re not.  How are you feeling, though?” Jesus checks, thinking about Brandon’s question to him.
“Exhausted.  Shaky.  Emotional.  But kind of okay for the moment…Hey, I have a strange request?”
“What?” Jesus asks.
“Could you stay on the phone with me?  I’m about to nod off.  But I hate sleeping and feeling on my own…”
“Yeah.  I’ll be here.  And Gracie will be there, right?”
“She is right here, crushing me with her full weight.”
“Gracie, I love you,” Jesus smiles.  “And don’t worry.  I’ll be here.  I’ll always be here,” he promises.
And even though, five minutes ago, sleep felt impossible, Pearl finds her guard is down enough to drift off, knowing Jesus is here with her.
--
The house is quiet.  It’s the kind of quiet that would usually set Jesus on edge, but now it just feels peaceful.  It’s 11:30.  No one is awake.  Everybody’s still trying to get all the sleep they can since being back in school and work.
Jesus walks the house, loving that it finally feels like home.  It finally feels familiar.  For the moment, the nightmares have faded, and he can just be here.  He walks to the kitchen, searching for paper again.  There’s none in the printer anymore, because Jesus had grabbed the whole stack to bring to the table earlier tonight.
He turns a slow circle.  Doesn’t see crayons or paper or anything there anymore.  But a glance straight ahead reveals that Moms have put the paper on a shelf above the printer.  Crayons are on top of it.  Jesus tries to shimmy the paper out from under the crayons, but the box falls, along with the stuff that was beneath it.
Jesus listens, hoping he didn’t just wake up Mom, the lightest sleeper in the world.  But there’s no sound like that.  He glances at his phone, listens.  Pearl’s deep, even breathing is there, proving that somehow, she hadn’t been startled awake either.
“Amazing,” he mutters under his breath and bends down to start picking up the few crayons that spilled out of the box.  He’s just put the yellow back where it goes, when something else catches his eye, along with the sheets of plain white paper, magazines and mail.
It’s a book.  Small.  Black.  With a little strap to hold it closed.  Except the strap came off the pages in its fall from the shelf.  It’s open, face down on the floor, and Jesus picks it up, so the covers close.  He’s about to put the little elastic back in place when curiosity has him flipping open the cover.  Past it.  To the first page:

Dear Jesus,
I know you’ll be home soon.  I am just making sure you know that we remember it was your turn to pick the movie.  We can watch The Pacifier as much as you want when you come home, okay, bud?  Just come home.
Love, Mama
Jesus is breathless.  It’s like stepping back in time.  He had forgotten all about loving that ridiculous Vin Diesel movie.  Picking it every time it was his turn to pick a movie.
“God, Pearl, you’ll never guess what I found…” he mutters quietly, flipping a page:

Dear Jesus,
Happy Halloween, buddy.  Mariana dressed up as Gabriela from High School Musical tonight.  Brandon was a zombie.   Mom and I didn’t dress up, but I know you probably have suggestions for what we should have been.   B and Mariana counted up all their candy tonight, and set aside their Junior Mints for you.  Come home quick so you can eat them, okay?  I am sending you so much love tonight.  Hoping you get to eat lots of candy and treats.  We can’t wait to see your face again.
Love, Mama
Jesus wipes his eyes.  It’s crazy just how easy he can picture Mariana and Brandon and nine and eleven, Trick or Treating in this neighborhood.  Jesus still can’t remember any times Trick or Treating before then, but his giant smile in pictures between kindergarten and third grade give a pretty strong indication that Halloween had been something that Jesus used to seriously dig.

Dear Jesus,
Happy Thanksgiving.  We miss you so much.  We made LOTS of mashed potatoes for you because we know you love them.  We visited Grandma and Grandpa Adams.  They miss you very much.  Grandma saved the turkey picture from the paper for you and Mari to color together.  Brandon did it with her this year, but we know there will be lots of turkeys to color when you come home.
Love, Mama
Thanksgiving was still one of the most awful holidays to look back on, but Mama writing this made him think of great smells.  Of family.  It made him glad they hadn’t forgotten about him.

Dear Jesus,
In my letter to him I asked Santa if you could come home for Christmas.  He didn’t write back yet but fingers crossed.  I love you.  Love Mariana.
Jesus clears his throat.  The last thing he expected to find in here was a letter from little Mariana.  He thought this was just Mama’s thing.  Jesus wonders how Mariana found it.  Pictures her writing in it with no one knowing and putting it back.
Tuesday, December 25, 2007
Dear Jesus,
Merry Christmas.  We are thinking about you every minute.
Love, Mama
Jesus wonders about the lack of detail.  What is Mama not saying?  What happened that year at Christmas?
He flips a page and realizes they’ve jumped ahead five months:
Saturday, May 17, 2008
Dear Jesus,
Happy birthday.  Hard to believe you and Mariana are 10 years old already.  Double digits.  Mariana didn’t want a cake or presents this year but we are doing our best to make sure she knows she is special and loved.  I hope you always know we love you.
Love Mama
Dear Jesus,
I love you forever.  Love Mom
Jesus,
It’s Brandon your brother.  Happy birthday we miss you.  Hope your having a good day.  Bye.
Happy birthday, Jesus.  Santa did not listen to me.  Can you believe that?  I can’t.  Now that we are 10, maybe that will make a difference.  I am asking again that you can come back for our birthday.  That would be the best present.
Love, Mariana
Jesus chokes out a laugh at Mariana, so offended that Santa hadn’t done what she asked and sent him home for Christmas.  Honestly, it would have been so ideal.  Only 2 months of basement super hell to get over and a month or so of school and one other time Down There.  Hardly anything comparatively.

Dear Jesus,
Two years ago, you and Mariana made me a mom and I am so thankful.  I need you to know, honey, that wherever you are, and whatever is happening, it’s okay.  It’s not your fault.  I will always want you.  I will always love you.  We just want you home.
Love, Mama
Jesus’s nose is burning.  His throat feels tight.  This thing Mama wrote?  It’s almost exactly what she used to say to him inside his head.  Even when the worst stuff was happening.  Back Then, it had been a way he coped, but it fills some empty place in him that Mama really felt this way.
Sunday, September 7, 2008
You have been missing for one year now.  That’s long enough.  You should come back now.  I know I am not always nice to you but I will be I promise.  PS I wrote a song for you.  It doesn’t have a title. It’s just my feelings.  It’s on piano and there aren’t words.  I did not tell Moms or Mariana yet, just you.  It might be the best thing I ever wrote but I don’t care.  I just want you to come home.
Brandon
Jesus is seriously curious about the song reference.  He thinks it’s probably Invisible Boy, but isn’t sure.  Since that one didn’t go up on B’s YouTube until almost a year later.  Brandon’s entry makes him sad.  It sucks they had to be without each other for so long.
Dear Jesus,
Happy Halloween 2008.  This year B and Mariana claimed they were old enough to go Trick or Treating by themselves.  Just between you and me, Mama and I walked behind them dressed as Catwoman and Batgirl.  We stayed back pretty far and your brother and sister did not notice us.  Brandon was Indiana Jones and Mariana was Hannah Montana.  You’ve got quite the collection of Junior Mints going, young man.  You best come home so you can eat them, yes?
I love you,
Mom
Jesus can’t help but smile at the thought of Moms tailing Mariana and B as they went out Trick or Treating, dressed as superheroes.  What would Jesus have gone as that year?  And why didn’t anybody save him their Junior Mints last Halloween?
Tuesday, November 11, 2008
Seriously, hurry up and get back here.  Moms just brought home two new kids.  I’d rather have you. Oh, and in case you are not keeping up with current events - Barack Obama just got elected president last week.
Brandon
Jesus raises his eyebrows.  It never occurred to him that Brandon and Mari wouldn’t be down with Callie and Jude moving in.  It makes him feel weirdly happy.  Like they didn’t forget him.  And Jesus did know about Barack Obama.  Had wanted him to win mostly because He said the rudest things about him.  Which, to ten-year-old Jesus, meant that Obama was probably the guy who should win.  And he’d been glad.  But quietly.
Sunday, May 17, 2009
Dear Jesus,
Eleven years old and I can hardly believe it.  I wonder how you look now.  If you’d be growing tall like Mariana or taking your time, like you do.  Mariana was more open to celebrating this year and we had a pizza party with some of her friends from school - like Lexi - you remember her, right?  I love you, Jesus.  Happy birthday.
Love Mama
Dear Jesus,
New wheels for your skateboard, my baby.  Get back here so you can tear up our kitchen floor, please.  Mama misses the sound and so do I.  Love Mom
Deer Heyzoose i am Jude i am 8 i am your Foster borther.  Happy Bearthday Love Jude
Jesus,
My name is Callie.  I am 11 too.  It is a good age.  I hope you come back soon.  Happy birthday.
I hate that you’re not here.
B
Happy birthday, Jesus.  I hope you are not mad that I had a party without you.  I still thought about you.  I still want you to come home even more than I want make up and stuff.  This morning, me and Moms went out and let some balloons go.  They are orange.  If you see them, they are from us.  I love you.
Mari
It’s super weird to have Callie and Jude leaving him birthday messages when, at this point, Jesus hadn’t even known who they were.  Brandon’s broke his heart.  And he wished like hell he had known to scan the sky for orange balloons…

Dear Jesus,
I have a secret:  you are going to have a new brother or sister.  I’m pregnant.  You’re the first one of the kids I am telling.  I hope this is good news for you.  It doesn’t mean we are forgetting you or replacing you.  I hope you are home soon, buddy, because our family isn’t complete without you.
Love, Mama
Jesus feels his heart flutter in his chest.  He touches the words carefully.  Frankie existed, and Jesus was the first one of the kids Mama told.  He flips through a few more entries about how the baby is growing.  Then, suddenly, it’s April.
Friday, April 2, 2010
Jesus,
The baby was born this morning.  She is really early and tiny.  Her name is Francesca Rose.  We don’t know if she will make it.  Wherever you are can you send good energy to her?  To us?  I know its selfish but we really need it.  I can’t lose another sibling even though I still know you’re out there and you will come home.  Just please, Jesus, I’m talking to you in your head, but you haven’t talked back.  I want her to make it.  I want you to meet her. Mariana
Jesus hasn’t really gotten many details about Frankie’s birth since he’s been back.  Knowing this, makes him feel like he was involved.  Important.  Like they needed him.  He imagined Frankie, small and helpless.  When the next page showed a photocopy of her impossibly tiny handprint, Jesus knew his imagination didn’t come close to creating a mental picture of how tiny she was.
Monday, May 17, 2010
Dear Jesus,
Frankie is six weeks and one day old today.  She is still in the hospital.  She will be there for a while until she’s big enough to go home.  I don’t want to do anything for our birthday.  I just want to be at the hospital with her all day long.  You would think 12 year olds would get to do that but no.  We are still minors.  And I still have to go to school.  Ew.  Happy birthday, Jesus.  I hope we can see each other someday.
Love, Mari
Friday, July 2, 2010
Dear Jesus,
Guess what?  Frankie got to come home today!  She is three months old and seven pounds.  Almost like a newborn finally.  I am so glad she is home.  The only day better than this will be when you come home.
Love, Mariana
Jesus feels cold.  July, 2010 was less than a month after Isaac.  It was such a dark time for him.  So weird that back at home, his fam’s lives were being brightened by Frankie, while Jesus was still just trying to do as much as he could to disappear.
Flipping to the next page, though, makes a smile break across his face.  There’s a picture paperclipped there: awesome baby Frankie, on her first birthday, covered in cake.  Her huge brown eyes staring at the camera.  In the background, there was their photo wall, and the picture of Jesus they used for all the missing posters was behind her.
Tuesday, May 17, 2011
Jesus,
We’re 13 now.  You need to come home.  Because it’s getting hard for Moms to believe it will still happen.  I can’t explain it, but I feel it will happen.  Even if they think I am crazy I know I’m not.  I know you’ll come home.  Happy birthday.
Monday, October 3, 2011
Dear Jesus,
I told Frankie about you and she walked around looking for you all weekend.  Because she saw a picture of you and thought you were Brandon.  I couldn’t let her think that, so I told her you were her brother.  She said, “Buddy?” It was so cute.  She kept looking for her buddy.  The only bad thing is Mom got mad at me for telling her about you.  She thinks it will scare her or something.  She is losing hope, Jesus.  You have to prove her wrong, okay?  Please.
Mariana
Jesus can remember this date.  Because it’s when He took the third kid.  Jesus remembers it clearly.  It’s when he knew for sure that something needed to happen.  That he needed to start really thinking about getting away.  And back in San Diego, Mariana was telling Frankie about him.  And Mom was losing hope.  Ten days later couldn’t come fast enough…
And then, just like that, it’s there, with the flip of a page:

10:33 PM
Dear Jesus,
I can hardly believe I am writing this, but you are coming home!  I love you so much, honey. I can’t wait to see you.  This is everything I’ve ever dreamed but never dared to hope for.  Counting down the hours til I can hold you again.  I love you so much.
Welcome home.
Love, Mama
Jesus has a lump the size of Texas in his throat.  He flips the journal to a blank page and writes two words under the date:
Sunday, January 12, 2015
Thank you.
Then, carefully, he closes the book, and puts it back on the shelf, knowing that they’ll find it when they most need it.
After all, Jesus had.
