So for those who haven't seen, AL posted a new Insta story earlier today featuring video of Michael. I subsequently saw this post in the tags and felt like I needed to write something about it:

What obviously stood out and angered me about this was the "chunky Welsh salt-and-pepper boyfriend" in the caption. This seems to be the latest in a line of recent instances of people commenting on Michael's weight/fat-shaming him. The difference in this case, however, is that the post above is directly tied to AL's Insta story. Here is a screenshot of the story, for those who haven't seen it (the full video is linked above):

And what stood out to me here is AL's caption of "Can't take him anywhere," followed by the "You're welcome" (suggesting that we are all supposed to fall over ourselves to thank her for posting video of Michael). Given that the video shows him playing with Lyra in a toy store, this would have been a perfect opportunity for Anna to write a caption about Michael being a great dad, or how much he adores his daughter.

Instead, however, the caption/video is all about Anna, and once again plays up the disingenuous "long-suffering partner of a bumbling man" schtick, which is what many of her Insta stories about Michael have been recently. So when you look at the Tumblr post above, you start to get a feeling for the vibe that her posts/stories are putting out. That if it's okay for AL to make comments about his appearance (as we know she has done for the last several years), then others feel no compunction about doing it, too.

There are plenty of ways to interpret all this, but to me, and especially looking at everything cumulatively, none of this speaks highly to the state of their relationship. The "can't take him anywhere" is another example of AL using an Insta story to insult Michael, to convey that--despite the fact that he is literally very sweetly playing with their daughter--she is embarrassed to be seen with him. When you look at the Tumblr post next to AL's Insta story, you can tell what people are picking up on, which means that these posts and stories are not bringing out the best in her, him, or their relationship.

Again, this is all my own opinion and thoughts, but I think it bears repeating that if someone made a Tumblr post like the one above about Anna, or commented on her weight gain/loss, people would be losing their minds. I'm tired of comments like those and hers getting a free pass because Michael is a man. I'm tired of her making him out to be a ridiculous buffoon who she "has to put up with." And I'm really tired of her thinking his fans don't or won't care as long as she provides new content. Because even though this might just be me, I'd rather have no new content of Michael at all than content where his own girlfriend is repeatedly putting him down...

I know there's a lot of people out there that think Dark and Light should have a romantic relationship, but, hear me out...

Twin siblings. Make 'em twin brothers. Yin and yang, what have you, but they're basically total opposites in some very key ways. One example, Dark is easily flustered and takes things to heart a lot. Light is more unflappable and clearly settled into his own skin. Makes arguments the most frustrating things ever for Dark given that he'll be all ready to bleed off the resentment he has from being thought of as 'the bad one' and Light just, doesn't match his energy. Doesn't get mad. Absolutely sees the projection for what it is, and Dark is just no no no no I wanna be pissed off at something LET ME BE PISSED OFF!

And meanwhile Light's like sure, man, you can be pissed, but not at me because my existence isn't what's wrong here. We both know you're not mad because of ME specifically.

And Dark gets huffy because he's not gonna be able to correct all instances of nyctophobia on planet Earth. Though Light lets him rant a bit anyway because, hey, better than the guy stewing in private.

When demo got first hired by pauling he was like very shy and introverted at some point where everyone wasn’t like… that conjoined and besties as how they are now. And i feel like he got a pretty rough time to even start to talk with his teammates or get a tiny friendship with them.

And he often times was very threatened by small lady in glasses that liked to be strict with them in their first day since… it was business only ofc

but by the time when pauling got a bit more soft with them, and got also a bit friendly with demo i feel like at some point he started to develop a tiny crush with her since she was the one who often talks more with, and i have this other hc that also he would fell easily with people that befriends him (not like anyone of course it really does depends the person for him)

so you know pauling it’s nerdy and a bit sensitive (she cries very easily) and she is very friendly or a bit more extrovert if she gets to, but like in a sense where she is more ambivert too. uhhh idk she is just talkative with people if you get her chance where she’s not busy and will tell you to go to hell. rough lady

and he liked that! i think he thought they both shared some stuffs along and can infodump their love for guns and for the work they are in and then if they can go a bit personal with some drinks and he liked that he could share this stuffs with her all chill and cool

but i feel like he just had this side secret crush with her and stopped those want to be romantic feelings because he really saw she is not like, up to those stuffs, she is so focused on work and also stressed and depressed like him and he could just understand that she just only want someone to listen to her but she will not like, pay that much attention about romantic relationships and he could completely understand that once he get to know her more deeply. and he just couldn’t do that to the one who also considered a friend and he probably guessed she will not feel the same for him but that didn’t like hurt him and is not like he ever confessed to her. he just had those secret feelings for her for a time and then realized she was not really like the one for him to be in a relationship

and that’s where i thought of him now having a more soft spot for her and caring her like a sister (not like literally but in a familiar soft spot sense, but that’s ofc his friend)

was kinda nervous about this last meeting with my direct report because I had to pitch a semi-radical rewriting of both of our job descriptions to her and wasn’t sure how she would feel about it or if she would be comfortable saying no if she really hated the idea. but I think I did a good job of setting up for the conversation—just like giving her all the info in advance, asking her to take time to think about it and reflect on which parts of her current role she really didn’t want to give up + what she felt was missing/wanted more of from her work life, and then making clear that 1) this was just one of several possible directions we could go and 2) I’d already made it clear to my boss that we weren’t going to make sweeping role changes without input from everyone involved. I think it went really well… she was really excited to talk about what she wants to do more of in her work slash which of her skills she thinks are being underutilized in the current role, and we ended up drafting a new draft position description together in our meeting that she seemed super excited about. PHEW!!!! I mean I assume that sometimes when you’re managing people you just have to tell them to do things and accept that they may not be thrilled about it, but in this case there actually was room for us to brainstorm together and negotiate the bigger picture stuff and I got the impression that she felt really happy about being included in the process. so I think it was good for building trust between us and securing buy-in on her part as we navigate this big shift and also just making sure she understands the why behind it (and feels like she was part of articulating that why). so yeah that all felt good!!! there are some personality differences between us slash little places where I’m sure we kinda grate on each other but I think on the whole we really work well together and I feel lucky to have her on my team.

#I also just value like #big and small moments in working relationships where you can demonstrate that you are worthy of trust #I always thought about that with students #you can talk as nice as you want or act like a sweet friendly lady or whatever #but people watch what you do and how you treat them and how you make decisions or exercise your authority over them #and (as with students) I am trying to build up lots of big and small moments where I am using my authority responsibly #and demonstrating respect for the other person #I just want to be consistent you know #I want what you see to be what you get in terms of being treated fairly and in a calm non-reactive manner #and in a way that actively solicits the person’s input #anyway! just wanted to record a small success/learning moment that was fun to figure out how to navigate

ill say it again im a firm believer that ed’s (all versions of him) default state is relaxed, happy, and friendly (as opposed to grumpy, off-putting, jerky, etc). we just see him at his worst/reacting to worst case scenarios. but even 03 ed, who is Depressed Supreme, in his day to day life where we don’t see him as viewers, i firmly believe embodies that kid with a gigantic grin we see in so much official art and occasionally onscreen. and its not just a smile through the pain kind of grin. for a kid who suffers so much, i think it’s nice to headcanon him as a generally happy and optimistic person. he just gets in his moods sometimes that are the result of trauma and being a rebellious snot nosed teenager that give him Bad Mental Health Days. And of course, his hair trigger temper. But default state=happy and energetic and nice to people and quick to bounce back from bad things that happen to him because that’s just life and he likes living it

I mean like what if they’re not made of metal, they’re made of visible energy looping around small and random gravitational spaces at such a high velocity that they look solid to the naked eye

It’s why they also just vanish when disturbed, because the energy pulled to that specific gravitational point is disrupted and disperses. If a living being (or anything else that consumes energy) is the one disrupting it, the energy immediately flows into them as the next closest pull aka “path of least resistance”. They also flicker out of existence when dropped, vanishing (or rather dispersing) into thin air

It’s also why there’s a ring limit, because the body can only handle so much extra energy

Also, it’s why rings can “respawn” because over time, ambient energy in the environment are slowly sucked back to those gravitational pulls, restarting the cycle. The energy can be dispersed and disturbed, but given enough time, it will regain its natural shape

Disclaimer: I don’t actually know how science works. My knowledge is high school level. Also i don’t think “gravitational” is the correct word here. Maybe “magnetic”?

i know i complain about my job but that's bc it IS a job not a hobby alas there are silver linings to it and one of those by far is how genuinely happy my work friends are to see me whenever i come back from uni. like the one girl im really close with gave me a massive hug and was fuming with me when i told her im only back for the one shift (she also tackled me to the kitchen floor and all the chefs conveniently 'didn't see anything' when i appealed for witnesses 😐) and the Bar Boys as they've come to be named like a fucked up pub boyband (we obviously have a lot of bar staff but there's a couple lads that are there most often and are also around my age and are all like. the really endearing actually sweet kind of fuckboy? strawberry guy is one of them. im not proud of myself) were all so happy to see me bc a lot of us went out together on new year's and they all get weirdly excited asking about how uni is etc and it's all very flirty but like. the jokey platonic kind yk. and the kp that's SO rude to almost all of the waitresses except her favourites literally shouted 'oi where the bloody hell have you been???' over several other people when she saw me and she's so chatty to me to the point it impacts my work lmao and i was joking with all the chefs bc im mates with a couple of them and there was a lot of 'oh god she's back' from the lads and just excited squeals of my name from the girls and strawberry guy came over to me when i was having a drink at the bar after work and tried to convince me to come in tomorrow to see him again before i go to uni even though i live miles away in the sticks and yeah. i love them lol

what's nice about written correspondence is that I can take the time I need to organize my thoughts, subtly look up a pop culture reference I didn't get, or quickly double check the meaning of a word before I use it. I also like having records of conversations, partly because I'm sentimental about literally everything and partly because sometimes your mom will try to send you mail without including your apartment number and then irritably INSIST that YOU must have never given it to her in the first place
