Stop Kicking Elain out of the NC
She doesn't want to go. She doesn't want to leave her family. The cauldron turning her into high fae was unfortunate, but in typical Elain fashion (my favorite quality of hers) she made the best of a terrible situation and adapted to her new home, her new body, her new life. She has friends. She glows with health. She is mending the relationship with her sisters. The male she loves is there.
Why would she want to leave?
And if anyone brings up the fact that Cassian said she couldn't pull off a black dress - I swear to god I'll be convinced you've never read a book before. Cassian, the Miranda Priestley of Velaris, declaring Elain doesn't look good in black does not mean she is being rejected by the Night Court.
Do people not read? Did you not read how Nesta had to stand out to be Eris-bait, and if Elain, gorgeous, sweet, with beauty-that-could-bring-a-king-to-his-knees Elain was done up like the rest of them, the chances of Eris following after Nesta would have been slim? They had to make her look muted, to purposefully fade her into the background. That is ALL.
Tumblr media
Now let's get into the even worse arguments for booting Elain out of the NC. Specifically,
She belongs in Spring (with Lucien)
She belongs in Day (with Lucien)
She belongs in Autumn (with Lucien)
Do you see what all those have in common (other than being surface level awful arguments)? They all center around Lucien. Who currently, Elain avoids like the plague. But I'm getting ahead of myself, lets go one by one, slow and steady:
Elain does NOT belong in spring
Why is this a thing, even? Because she likes flowers and Feyre said "oh elain would like it here?" That's it? Are we reducing people down to their hobbies now? Nesta likes books, should she also move to Day? Mor likes...wine I guess, should she move into a tavern? Amren likes puzzles, ship her to Dawn? Azriel likes Elain, let's put him in the Prison??
Or, oh wait, Tamlin should lose his court and Elain and Lucien will rule? How. Genuinely, how? Lucien is already an heir to Day Court & Autumn Court. How would the magic pick him of all people if Tamlin somehow dies/gives up his court? Wouldn't it pick someone...of Spring Court descent?
P.S Flowers also grow in the Night Court.
Make it make sense.
2. Elain does NOT belong in Day
First of all, right now, nobody knows about Lucien's parentage except for Feyre/Rhys and LoA (maybe). Helion doesn't know. Lucien himself does not know.
For Lucien to become high lord of Day, y'all realize Helion would have to die, right? Why would you ever kill off such an icon? And even if he just casually lives there while Helion still rules...a lot of things would have to happen for this to occur, like: Lucien's parentage is revealed, Helion accepts him as his heir, likely a blood duel between Beron/Helion over LoA, If Beron wins THEN Lucien becomes HL of Day, but if Helion wins then Eris becomes HL of Autumn...all of this would have to be covered in one book before they can even think about moving to Day and living happily ever after. You know, if Elain ever actually gives him the time of...day.
Don't even give me the "but Elain needs sunlight"!!
P.S. The NC also gets sunlight
Elain is not a plant. She does not undergo photosynthesis and need to go to the Day Court to physically be alive. Elain does not need light she IS the light. What's not clicking folks? Her name literally means LIGHT. Some variations say fawn/deer, but mainly she is light.
3. Elain does NOT belong in Autumn
This argument is more rare, but I don't understand it either. Why would she go live in Autumn as the reluctant mate to the 7th son of the awful Autumn HL? Autumn court cannot be this interesting to y'all, that you would be totally okay with not hearing from feyre/rhys/nesta/cassian/any of the IC, just to read a story about Elain avoiding Lucien in different climate/setting? Autumn exists in the NC too, you guys. She can ignore him when the leaves change color there, just as much.
And all of this, is only centered around Lucien. Because if you just asked this sweet flower child what she wanted, I can guarantee you, her answer would be to stay right where she is: home.
If she weren't mated to Lucien, would you still be sending her away to Spring/Day/Autumn?
This isn't even a ship thing at this point, like...Lucien doesn't currently have a home right now? Why are we tearing Elain away from her home to go live with a mate she does not want? If Elucien ever did get together, it would make so much more sense for Lucien to just move to the NC instead. Because Elain sure as hell is not going to live in her ex-fiance's manor, far away from her sisters, with a mate she didn't ask for and his rude bestie who literally made a r*pe joke about her (yeah, not understanding the Jurian & Lucien friendship here either).
Stop kicking my girlie out of the night court. She's staying where she belongs. If she leaves, it will be her choice. Not because her mate lives somewhere else. Not because she likes flowers. If she stays, it will be because that is her choice.
I thought it was obvious.

Feel free to ignore, but you mentioned that the fandom landscape has changed drastically from twenty years ago, and I’m curious what that means for you. I’ve seen lots of posts on the topic, but am interested in your experience if you want to share.
I absolutely can share!
Twenty years ago, I found fandom through bulletin boards or message boards (depending on what you called them). Trekbbs was my first one, and it's still standing. High speed internet was relatively new, and it was easy to keep up with "threads." Whenever you logged in, it would take you to where you left off with any given thread so you could catch up. (Discord does this...kinda, but Discord moves at warp speed where BBS's moved at impulse power.) It was easier to stay connected, to get to know people. Also, the boards were (and are) heavily moderated. Trolls were banned, and folks who got too heated under the collar were usually temporarily banned until tempers cooled. So it was generally a safe environment.
Oh, and I forgot to mention that the vast majority of the boards were grown-up only. That's not to say that minors didn't sneak through, but they were on their best behavior lest they get found out and kicked off the board.
And from the boards, we learned where to find fanfic. Back then, even though FFN existed, fic was primarily archived on private sites. There were no such thing as likes and kudos back then. It was fandom etiquette (at least for my corner of the Trek fandom) to leave a comment/review if you read a fic (and be nice about it!). It was the era of Kink Tomato (your kink is not my kink and that's okay) and don't like don't read and simply fun. We had challenges, did round robins—where someone would write a chapter of a fic, then another author would write the next, and so forth.
Even when I made the switch to posting more on FFN, it was pretty normal to send a message to someone to thank them for favorite-ing your story even if they didn't comment. And often they would message back, telling you what they enjoyed. I have some friendships born from this! It was normal. Writers weren't called "needy" and "self-absorbed" for hoping for more interaction with their readers. We were all in this together.
I also did yahoo groups for a time, and had a fantastic time with my friends in an email chain.
LiveJournal was kind of the peak of fandom, IMO. I think it was the first "public" website, rather than something privately owned, where we could build communities (private or public) as well as have our own pages (private or public). Some of the best fandom events happened on that site. But LiveJournal ended up imploding. (Cyber attacks then the new owners started wiping out entire communities without warning for violating the new terms of service. It was horrible.)
So we all moved to Tumblr. (And we were slowly moving to AO3. Some also moved to the site formerly called Twitter.)
Tumblr was pretty awesome back then. Because fandom people took the same community with them when they came. We didn't have replies back then, but dagnabit we screenshot tags or reblogged comments and posted them with replies. It was easier to follow tags and even some fandoms created blogs that were archives for fics. (Myself included.) The downside was, and continues to be, lack of moderation. Not that I think fandom should be gatekept, but it isn't as easy-going when you do have to worry about putting up with trolls as a rule rather than the exception.
Alas, life happened and I had to step away for a few years. When I came back...it's so much quieter. Significantly less interaction. Less comments on fics. There's just...less connection in general. People tend to flit in and out of fandom more often. And on top of that, there is the odd movement that fanworks shouldn't contain anything that would make a reader/viewer uncomfortable or is unrelatable to the general masses. As a fanworks creator, there have been times I felt more like a monkey dancing for a demanding audience rather than a squee-ing fan sharing things with fellow sqee-ing fans. I seriously questioned for a long time whether I would bother anymore.
(This also doesn't mention how streaming and binge-watching series rather than weekly releases have affected fandom. It's different when you get one episode a week for an entire season of 20-24 episodes than when a streamer releases the entire 8-10 episode series at once.)
A part of this is me, too. I don't have nearly as much time to invest in fandom as I used to. I can't be too critical of the changes in fandom, but it is different.
And so I hang onto a few of the friends I've found (like you!) and continue to find here and there. I write whatever I want and delete rude comments. I always reply to the others. And I keep plugging on!
Thank you for asking! And thank you for being part of what I love about being on Tumblr even after all these changes! (Sorry I got a bit verbose!)

Hello, I'm new to the jujutsu fandom, I've already watched season 1 of the movie and I'm in season 2 of jujutsu, I also follow the jujutsu manga, I liked your tumblr and started following you, I like your analyzes and you make me understand more jujutsu, thank you. I have a question, don't you think Sukuna is a boring villain, sorry, but he's too annoying, even Mahito is more interesting than him and it's impressive that Mahito gave more weight to the work than Sukuna, Sukuna killed Gojo and his death It had no significance in the work, it's something terrible, I think the author got lost.
Hi back at you, Anon! I'm, too, new to the fandom myself. I was already interested in the anime when it first released and then read the manga, but it's only since the latter half of 2023 I became more active in the fandom.
I said it before, but it does still shock me to have people tell me they like my posts. Half of the time, I'm surprised folks understand them because I ramble in them since I write on whim. I do my best to be clear about what I'm saying though!
Thank you for that, glad you're enjoying them.
**
I don't think Sukuna is boring. He's actually my favorite villain to the story. And honestly, I don't think any of the JJK villains are boring.
Now for a second, I'm going into writer Kiya mode and without the bias of "Gege hates Gojo and favors Sukuna", like, throwing that outside for a second here.
Mahito definitely played his part well as a villain. He was a major problem in the first season and during the Shibuya Incident. And he did hold a lot more weight than Sukuna did in those arcs.
But on Gege's part, I think it was on purpose. I don't think Gege actually wanted to show Sukuna a lot, especially during the first half. Mahito and the other Disaster Curses, I think of them as obstacles that needed to get over first. They were the big bad villains during their time of the story until it was time for their parts to come to a close.
Had Gege put a lot of Sukuna in the first couple of arcs, it would have been too much going on. Imagine him randomly taking over Yuji's body to kill people while at the same time Yuji had to deal with Mahito.
Instead, Sukuna was more in the backseat and would often pop up to antagonize Yuji like an annoying sound in his ear while commentating about Megumi in his thoughts, that setting up for what he will later in the story.
Also, it wouldn't have made sense when Sukuna was regaining his strength. The Finger Bearer Curse, rethinking is now... I don't think that was just a display of what he can do. It felt more in setting up for how Yuji was going to change and Sukuna's plans for Megumi. Sukuna needed his fingers to get that power back.
Unlike the Disaster Curses who weren't tied to any objects. They could actively go about causing destruction while growing in strength, as we seen with Mahito during Shibuya.
Something told me that Mahito and the Disaster Curses weren't going to last in the story because how they were set up. But they did leave an impression on me.
With the Gojo's death, maybe Gege did get lost. I write, so I understand that feeling. (It also doesn't help that fandoms tend to not help at all with being how they are. You know, their judgments and harrassments putting pressure on the creators.)
People would say it has to do with Gege not liking Gojo, but again, factoring that out. What if it was supposed to feel disappointing?
I think about the reactions of how Toji died, who died similarly to how Gojo did. By the hands of "the strongest", standing up, wearing the tight black shirt and white pants combo, upper half gone and thinking about the people they care about.
Fans were disappointed Toji died because he was such a great character to have. When Gojo died, I saw the same thing.
Thinking about it, would it have made sense for Gojo to have killed Sukuna? When Yuji is still present, the actual protagonist?
Gojo's death, disappointing it is (I like Gojo), it may have been written to be the closing for his character (if he stays dead). Gojo was often the "tool" of jujutsu society. He was used to clear problems because he was the strongest. Him dying, it was almost as if the characters now had to get used to not having to rely on one person. It's why they discussed a plan beforehand to deal with Sukuna.
Sometimes, I feel like that what Gege aims for. Certain reactions to the audience and if we'll catch onto what is going on. Honestly, now that Gojo's death happened, it did feel like to me that Toji's death may have foreshadowed that. Coincidence or on purpose, I don't know.
Gege probably does want the audience to be annoyed with Sukuna. Gege wants us to be agitated not for a laugh, but to feel how Yuji and the others feel about him. Anytime Sukuna goes out his way to put down Yuji, I feel annoyed. I feel irritated.
It's how stories are written. It's how stories work. To get the audience to feel a certain way based on what's happening and the tone. I have seen people get mad that JJK is getting so dark and depressing. But one, it's always been that way. Two, it's not showcased as some slice of life comedy. This is the same story where a bullied kid dies.
How the fandom reacts reminds me of how the non-sorcerers are written. Their negative emotions cause problems for those who work to handle those problems. In real life, people will read JJK and not handle their emotions causing problems. Be it arguing with others or going as far as to violently threating the mangaka.
Over fiction.
People got so comfortable now with using KYS to things that they don't like, it's their immediate reaction. I just saw it yesterday with an artist I follow.
It's pathetic, it's sad, it's disgusting.
Ooh, I rambled a little off topic for a bit there, sorry about that.
That's all I really have to say for now!

🎃 PedroStories HallowReads Celebration 🎃
my fic recs for @pedrostories' hallowreads celebration <3
thank you to the wonderful folks over there for putting together this event and helping spread so much love and positivity in this here fandom. coming into this space over the course of this year, first as a reader, then as a writer has been so fulfilling and fun and rewarding and just generally very beautiful.
i've compiled some of my favourites of the year here but please check out my rec tag to find everything i'm reading always.
My favourite fanfic(s) I read this year
the theme is...............polyamory apparently
Title: Catalyst by @ezrasbirdie Description: After falling into bed together on the night of Frankie’s 40th birthday party, you, Joel, and Frankie start a relationship. My thoughts: you ever just love a thing so much it's actually hard to articulate why you love it so much? tragically, that is me with this universe. i wish i could verbalize it properly. it just hits. i would die for all of them.
Title: Adversity by @the-ginger-hedge-witch Description: On your own and far from the home you once knew, you find unlikely allies right when you least expect them and soon learn that they have plenty to teach you. My thoughts: brain chemistry altering in every sense. time for my weekly re-reading of campfire lessons.
Title: Homecoming by @astroboots Description: You and Frankie are Santiago’s closest family in the world, and after years of running to the ends of the world, he finally come homes to be with you both. The polyamorous adventures of 🚛 🍑 x 🐱x 🚁🍆🧃 My thoughts: i am late to the party with this one but i am so, so glad i found this story. wonderful story telling, excellent smut; it is literally impossible not to fall in love with all of them.
A beloved fanfic with my comfort character
you already know it's mr. miller and these fics capture him brilliantly
Title: soft!dom joel by @joelscruff Description: a collection of important moments between you and joel miller, your grumpy new patrol partner in jackson, wyoming. My thoughts: i love this joel with my whole entire being and i want him to be so happy and loved forever (i also want him to call me a good girl)
Title: Short Days, Long Nights by @frannyzooey Description: Part of a band of travelers, your party is slowly picked off one by one, until there are only two of you left. Finding an abandoned cabin in the woods, you decide to make camp there until you figure out your next move. As the seasons change, the nights get longer and longer… My thoughts: literally the first ever joel miller fanfic i found in this fandom. a downright formative reading experience for me before i started writing myself.
A fanfic I wish more people knew about
Title: pretty little wife by @beardedjoel Description: follows snippets and days in the seemingly perfect life of husband!joel and his housewife. My thoughts: i love how this series perfectly captures the love and trust between these two, and how it portrays such a lovely little fantasy life that i wish i had lol
Title: something wretched about this by @covetyou Description: your father has been medicating his long term illness for as long as you can remember, and he'd always been grateful to find medication suppliers even after the world went to shit. When he can't pay up, what lengths will you go to to protect your entire world? My thoughts: this has been the perfect find for me this spooky season and tickled so many of my interests beautifully. i cannot wait to read more from Lo.
A fanfic with my favourite trope/AU
Title: a lover's pinch by @hier--soir Description: a one-night stand with a charming texan turns into something much more thrilling when you discover he is your new college professor. joel miller is entirely off limits. but now that you’ve had a taste, will you be able to keep your hands to yourselves? My thoughts: PROFESSOR/STUDENT! MY BELOVED! jessie rips my heart out and sews me back together with every chapter of this series.
Title: Salvatore by @devilmademewriteit Description: a secretary with an attitude problem, a DEA agent with an insolence problem. years ago, you'd stopped hoping for his character to improve, but he's still gunning to set you straight. it’s the worst day of your life, and javier peña aims to take advantage of that. My thoughts: if i've said it once, i've said it a hundred times: no one does brat/brat tamer like Em. the story is also so rich and engaging and the smut is lichrally god-tier.

(I have been trying to write this post for a while, but it keeps coming out like a sob story, and it is really not that deep jkfdgkj
So I am just going to say it, bc you guys know I love to ramble for ages, and I need some opinions
1 year of this blog is tomorrow (or today depending on how long I take to write this kjldfg), and I really do appreciate you all being here - if you have been here since the beginning, or just followed recently - if you've sent an ask, liked, reblogged, shared with a friend, theorised, made fanart, or followed me to my art blog and watched me make (and continue to make) a billion clones, anything; thank you
I made this blog on a whim, only like a week after getting into Pizza Tower, and I had no idea it would turn into what it is now
Of course, in the beginning there were a lot of actual posts, like with backgrounds and multiple characters, and I'd post several times a day if I could - and while I was having fun, it was not ideal - I'd frequently post at 7am after spending all night working on a post then I'd pass out, I'd forgo eating or showering just to draw, and I had wrecked my wrist several times, and continue to push pass the pain just to post
It wasn't just hyperfixation, it was obsession - much easier to realise that in retrospect
I was also medicated at the time, I had been on antidepressants for 3 years, so around April (I think) I ran out of meds and was unable to get more due too third party issues/unable to get in contact with my doctor/etc (and unbeknownst to me at the time, the last two packs I had were expired) - so I am sure you can imagine the sort of affect suddenly going cold turkey on the med that make you not wanna die has on a person - I was not doing great to put it lightly
But I still wanted to continue - so many people had praised me on the frequency of posts, and how excited they were and all this validation - I couldn't let people down! (Also I was, and still am, a disabled shut-in loser with no friends, posting is like the only social interaction I had/have kdfgkgfd)
But I think I did - I intimidated myself out of drawing main posts with how much work they were, started the intermission even though I said I shouldn't, had no script or direction and that I was not 100% invested in to try to motivate myself back into main posts, and it was just easier to draw silly ooc posts than do the thing I really wanted to do instead
Of course, this is not any of you guys' fault - I have always had this issue of starting something, it getting way bigger than I can manage, crashing and then just unable to get going again - I have so many unfinished comics, half-done projects and abandoned askblogs it's not even funny - but it's also like, not the end of the world, if I don't finish things I start for fun - sure, I'll feel guilty as hell for a while, but life moves on
So that being said, I would still very much like to continue the story here - I have been working on some stuff in the background (I even updated Pep's reference in the last few days, with a ton of new stuff), but I still don't think it's gonna be soon - I am doing somewhat better than I was, and I actually have an appointment for with my doctor finally (I will probably have to do some reassessments since they can't just put me back on the meds, after not having them for almost a year, and then I'd have to probably get reaccustomed to side effects etc), so despite it all I am still here
I am not sure if I want to continue the intermission with Bean and Fiend at this time - I know a few folks enjoyed it (mostly bc Fiend kjsdfkj) - but as mentioned previously it was unplanned, unscripted, and I was quickly not feeling it, as I am sure some of you guys were too - the intention was for Fiend to give you guys another hint to the main story, but getting to that point was not fun - I might do a poll on this in a separate post
I also mentioned a while back that I would be cutting down the Big Post into smaller posts, and posting as and when parts were done - but once again, do not expect these soon - (although there is a very late Valentines post coming hopefully soon)
And I think that should hopefully be it for now - I know this is a huge post, and probably still a bit sob story-ish, but oh well - I also know that the hype for Pizza Tower had unfortunately died down significantly, but I'm still working on PT stuff on my art blog @smalltimidbean if you wanna see more silly things (and maybe some lore for here hehe)
It is also the first now, so happy birthday Pep
Okay, thank you, and see you later)

Just comment and I will put out a part two-
PJO MUSIC ARTIST AU:
Percy;
-His artist name is Black Jackson. (BLACKJACKson?? Get it??? He named himself after blackjack kind of???? Ok I’ll see myself out-)
-Because he was born in Manhattan, out of poverty, he never had much, so he’s pretty much the most down to earth celebrity ever(think Adam Sandler kind of? But more fashionable)
-Advocates a lot for people with learning disabilities, and domestic violence victims.
-He mostly writes inside the genres rock and alternative.
-His first big break was with his original album, “feelyng bleu”
-While we’re on that, all of his songs and albums are spelled wrong. At first it was a mistake, but Percy slowly just made it his own thing. Made him feel a lot better about his dyslexia.
- Is the nicest guy you’ll ever meet.
-He’s also a socially awkward, insecure mess though.
- He starts every concert of his off by thanking his Mother, and asking whether “ his audience is ready to fuck themselves up tonight??”
-Absolute bicon
-Has clips of his funny exchanges with interviewers all over YouTube
Annabeth;
-Just uses her actual name.
-She doesn’t see the point in trying to make a career under a fake name. Nah. She wants people SCREAMING her name from the audience.
-Contrary to that wish though, she’s not actually famous.
-It’s more like…a hobby she does for fun, but also dreams about turning into a career.
-In reality though, she’s an architecture student who really just needs money to fix the damn sink.
- She actually knew Percy WAY before he became famous, since they were eleven actually.
-Annabeths music is more like…alternative folk.
-She uses all sorts of architecture metaphors and terms in her music.
-She doesn’t sing about buildings though. She talks about all sorts of social class problems she thinks are important. The figurative, poetic architecture language she uses is just her musical signature(and a fun way to be nerdy).
-She has a decent amount of followers.
- Is rather cold when you meet her, but is secretly just a softie.
- Is the artist who makes songs based off books and posts them on TikTok (sorry not sorry)
-She also has a podcast that’s unfortunately more popular than her nonexistent music career lol.
- She wears lots of academic looking clothes, but also has lots of flow-y looking tops, and lots of chique Greek outfits because she loves embracing her culture.
- Is friends with everyone from the famous band “Ride or Die” (Beckendorf, Silena, Clarisse, Connor, Travis, and Katie)
Grover;
-Goes by the music name “Child of the W1ld”
-He’s not really a famous music artist honestly? More like a TikTok celebrity.
-He’s famous for his pan flute and ocarina covers of different songs.
-His most popular, aka the one that made him famous, was Celine Dion’s “my heart will go on”
-Posts all sorts of TikTok’s of him playing his instruments in random places lmao
-Is the most cottage core hipster to ever cottage core.
- He and Percy are besties! They support each other whenever they can, advertise, do videos, and just chill out and hang.
- They’re such opposites aesthetically though. People were actually so shocked when they first saw them together lmao.
- Whenever Percy uploads a new album or song, he’ll make a cover of it.
-Not only because he loves his best friend, but also because it’s challenging.
-Wears an alarming amount of skirts, and pants that go halfway to his calves.

Revamping my altar - Part 01🙃
Let's ingnore the fact that I ghosted my blog for the most part of this year and jump right in as if nothing happened....
Starting point
I'm a very aesthetically driven person and I'm bored with my current altar, which has been remained the same for a long time. (I thought I had a picture but I don't and it's gone now so oops...)
I want to create something that puts me in an inspired mood just by looking at it. That looks inviting and beautiful and brings me delight and motivation. A little sanctuary nook kinda.
I want to revitalize things and symbolize the new era i'm in, due to the fact that i recently moved into a new flat, got a new job, and overall my life is very different than it was last year.
So here is the journey of making my new altar :) At the moment it's far from done but here is the first part of the process!
Part 02 will follow once I've received the things I ordered, probably at the end of November or early December.
Inspirations
So i went on a quest to find inspirations on pinterest that would sort of align with what i wanted to make.
ngl I dislike most of what I see because I find them too cluttered for my personal taste. The main issue is that i'm clumsy and i hate the idea of my hand having to slither through a forest of objects to be able to grab what i want lol
Still managed to find a few cool examples, here they are:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I love the rough, folk-esque, natural aspects of them, the blend of stone, marble and wood. The branches, the sculptures, the iconic symbols and the fact that there is a variety of heights of things, if that makes sense. I also like having a strong art piece in the middle, which i prefer over having a mirror like many examples i found. Idk i just find the idea of having to stare at myself at my altar a bit uncomfortable lol
But it's still different from what would be authentic for me and also i gotta do with what i have or what i can buy.
The thing is that my altar is not dedicated to a single deity so i can't go with one strong themed vibe but i have to put them all together. Currently, Apollo, Artemis, Hekate, Dionysos, Hermes and Demeter share the same space.
Furniture
Thankfully the new book shelf I got is quite wide and has three levels, which is plenty enough space to give everyone their own space and even host my incense, tarot cards and spiritual books.
I almost sold a kidney to get an antique cabinet, which looked really cool but was not going to fit in with the interior style of my living room, where my altar is located.
So I went in with a more modern yet slightly organic-shaped one:
Tumblr media
Not 100% what I was looking for but at least the space is there. Love the curves an the contrast of the two colors, but I wish the wood was darker. I could sand and re-varnish but who's got time for that.
Current state of the sculptures
I've been collecting sculptures and hand painting them for a while now (you can check out my pinned post for pictures of some of them), and although I love what I made, I really want to get some new ones that are higher and I'm even wondering if I should just keep them white and gold instead of colorful.
Also, for the life of me, I can't find a sculpture of Hekate that I like. They either look too bland or too new-agey for my taste. At the moment, I have the classic three women holding torches and stuff that I hand painted in blue, yellow and silver, but idk it's not what I have in mind and I think I'm just going to resort to do clay modelling myself. I'll probably do a separate post for the process!
Btw I'll do a free giveaway in the future to re-home my old sculptures so stay tuned for that!
What I have in mind
Sooo I'm not sure of the exact height and width of the things that I have coming in, and I'm still looking for a strong art piece or relief to go at the center back so I'm not sure if my disgusting mouse-drawn photoshop sketch is going to be accurate at all lol
Tumblr media
The more I stare at it the more I think it makes no sense 🙃
So basically, from left to right; Apollo (new statue incoming); Artemis (old statue at the moment but need to upgrade); Hekate in the center (need to craft that); Dionysos (new bust incoming); Hermes (new bust incoming); and on the lower lever Demeter (still love the statue as I think it's my best one so it will stay this way).
Still missing:
one or two candles i use during worship, preferably gold
art piece in the center, either a plaster relief or canva print of something
plant with long falling ''arms'' (idk the word in english)
dried branches to go in the left vase
a way to fix the antlers to the wall
an old key for hekate (need to go to a thrift store)
maybeee a bigger box to store my incense and ritualistic plates and glasses
I don't think I want a table cloth simply because I had one in the past and it was always a mess to clean. Having the bare table is much easier, especially considering that I will burn incense and candles and that gets messy.
---------------------------------
Okay that's it for this long ass post, see ya in a few weeks for part 02!!!

Games I Enjoyed in 2023
I did a big blog post last year where I listed all the games I enjoyed playing and gave my short thoughts about each of my experiences... and I'm doing it again!
Since 2018 I've kept a digital sticky note to keep track of all the games I've played AND finished throughout the year. For 2023 lots of folks claimed it was the "BEST" year for gaming and to some degree... I guess??? Depends on who you ask, but to me I only enjoyed like a handful of new releases and played a lot of older games (or remakes of older games). It was a year of reflecting back on what made me love video games more than looking forward to what's "new".
In 2023, I've finished 32 games. That's 10 more games than I finished from last year but out of all the games I played, here are the ones that stood out to me and left a pretty positive impression.
LIVE A LIVE
Tumblr media
I never had a chance to play the SNES version, but I was very familiar with the game to some degree from the old days when I use to browse forum threads about RPGs I've never heard of. I knew I would get around to playing it one day and thankfully it got a remake on the Switch (and then it got a PC port later this year). I didn't get to properly play it last year, but after sitting down to play LIVE A LIVE... it's a game with a really powerful soundtrack, engaging characters, and a unique story that left me wanting more games like it.
I could type up many reasons why I like this game, but I feel it's something you have to experience more than anything. I don't want to spoil anything about this game. If you love Chrono Trigger then you will have a great time with LIVE A LIVE.
Final Fantasy VII- Crisis Core Reunion
Tumblr media
I love FFVII and FFVII Remake. When they announced they were remaking Crisis Core I was excited to finally see what the deal was and by the end of this game... it left me a very broken man sobbing my eyes out. As a stand alone game it works very well even if you're not familiar with FFVII. It's a touching and contained story about a man striving to be a hero. Zack is a person I wish I could be in terms of confidence and wanting to do what's right. He's also a goof ball and I am very happy I got to know him more through Crisis Core. I don't want to say much about this game either, but PLEASE play it if you haven't! It made me finally understand why people love Zack so much.
Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater
Tumblr media
I've put off this game for way too long. I had the chance to get into it when this game came out on 3DS, but I was too busy in college then. I ended up playing the PS3 version of the game (this was before the MGS Master Collection came out to every platform). At first... I wasn't a fan of this game. I struggled to play this game and felt like an idiot when it came to sneaking. I got stuck at the Volgin fight and out of spite, I started over on "Very Easy" to better equip myself. After working my way back to Volgin, I enjoyed my experience more and was engaged with what was happening around me. Once the game was finished, I was tearing up and couldn't help but think about how often true heroes are forgotten and how history is retold.
Thank you for the heartrending experience, Hideo Kojima.
The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask
Tumblr media
I had a weird experience with Zelda games this year. Tears of the Kingdom released and I went in hoping it would be a great follow-up to Breath of the Wild. I wasn't the BIGGEST fan of BotW. I had some faith going in that TotK would be a better experience. Unfortunately, after making it back to Hyrule my fears sort of came true. It felt like the same game I played almost 7 years ago except you can use bubble gum to craft and make things which is... fine I guess.
I kept pushing on hoping the story was going to set up something great and for a while, it did! The BIG twist was interesting, but once I got to the final scene I wanted to chuck this game out the window. The newer Zelda games just weren't doing it for me anymore so I decided to replay some older Zelda games (Wind Waker HD and Twilight Princess HD which was a TON of fun to replay) and decided it was time for me to give Majora's Mask another chance.
I ended up playing this on NSO and after a month or so, I 100%'d the game and greatly appreciated what this game had to offer in terms of setting, story, soundtrack, and characters. The setting is dark and terrifying yet it still keeps a goofy demeanor. I just fell in love with exploring and seeing how human this game can be (especially the finale). This is what I want to see with future Zelda games. I miss having ACTUAL dungeons and linearity, but we won't get that again. I hope that there will be another 2D Zelda game or Nintendo goes back to its roots with 3D Zelda games, but here's to all the indie devs out there trying to recreate that GOOD Zelda magic.
The Great Ace Attorney (Adventures)
Tumblr media
I love this series but fell off during the 3DS era with AA6 (I still need to play that...). Since this game is more of its own thing I thought I would give it a shot and MAN! This game took the AA formula and dialed it up to 1000. In Ace Attorney fashion I love the characters, I love the puzzle-solving, and the mystery aspect where everything is tied together (especially that finale omg). My only irk is that the cases tend to go on a bit too long compared to AA 1-4, but I can let that slide because I was streaming this game, and having to voice and read EVERY bit of dialogue was exhausting (I plan to play Resolve on my own time next year so I can get through it much quicker). Ace Attorney still rocks and I hope to catch up and play more in 2024 (looking at you Apollo Justice "Trilogy").
Ranko Tsukigume's Longest Day
Tumblr media
One of the shortest games I played this year. I love SUDA 51's work and wanted to give this a shot and it sure was an experience, to say the least. The gameplay is simple and difficult at weird times, but the one thing that sticks out to me about this game, in particular, is the absurdity and goofy humor (which is... basically expected with a SUDA 51 experience) with its visuals and jumping to different art styles and animation. Something about this small game makes me want to start working on my own projects more than anything. You can tell this was made with a creative team and the devs from Tokyo Jungle worked on it to so maybe that's another game I should look into as well... Overall, this was like a fun snack to chew away at left me with my heads in the clouds.
Pizza Tower
Tumblr media
I don't need to say much about Pizza Tower. If you've played it, then you get it. Go play Pizza Tower! The OST and crude cartoon art style is what gives this game... uh as the kids call it... "soul". It's the Wario Land game that Nintendo will never make. It's 25% off on Steam! GO PLAY PIZZA TOWER!
Hypnospace Outlaw
Tumblr media
Had a rough time playing through this game at first because it would crash pretty often. Turns out the game would connect to the wrong graphics card so after I got that sorted out, I finally got to play this game in peace, and... man... there's nothing else like this game in terms of telling a story/ narrative through faux web browsing. It's a game that perfectly emulates the experience of the late 90's internet browsing. There's a particular joy in exploring page after page to learn about all these characters and their hobbies. Letting the player take a small peek into their lives is a treat. As you get deeper into the game, you start learning about some of these people and who they are underneath their online persona. Without going into spoilers, the game went in a direction I didn't expect with its tone. The final arc of this game left me with some tears and a HUGE respect for what once was before what our current internet has become...
Hypnospace is really really cool.
Undertale Yellow (Pacifist Route)
Tumblr media
Kinda unexpected that a fan game would end up on my list, but I'll make the exception. From what I've read, Undertale Yellow was in development for 7 years and that dedication and work shows in terms of presentation, story, and new characters. For a fan game, it doesn't heavily depend on needing the cast of characters from the base game of Undertale to tell its OWN story. Like Undertale, you fall in love with these new casts of characters and go through many vignettes in each part of the Underground where you get to learn about how these monsters live, and just like Undertale you'll laugh, you'll cry, and wish that the journey would never end. Once again I don't want to spoil anything, but for a prequel to Undertale's story... it's surprisingly more powerful than I thought it was going to be. Congrats to the entire Undertale Yellow team who worked on this. It was a pleasant December surprise that made me want to work harder on my passion projects.
I feel to some degree, I love this game probably a little more than Undertale itself...
Probably...
One thing for sure is that this game is helping me tide over until the new chapters of Deltarune come out.
2023 was a great time to play my backlog and give games another chance. Also trying out new stuff in the process despite my current feelings on the gaming industry at the moment...
I hope in 2024, I can continue to dedicate my time to slowly chip away at my backlog and try out new games (or older games I missed out on). Video games inspire what I want to do creatively and I love seeing what people can create and put out there.

February 2023 Forecast
I am writing this with my back and neck in horrible pain. Worse way to start your morning is to get up, stretch, and then pull something. I feel bed ridden.
"T, are you done with your break?" No idea. Define break. My brain is slowly coming back to me so good news is I'm not quitting lmfao. My brain almost had me in the first half ... and most of the second. When I do return though, I'm implementing a new writing process called "write what I want to fucking write when I want to fucking write it."
"T, did you need to add all those expletives?" No. But you know how a lot of folks be like 'as I get older I'm going to curse less?' I'm the opposite. I curse more. It makes me feel all tingly inside.
Alright, welcome to the second best month, purely because it's my birthday month, that's literally it. You know I share this month with both my brother and my father, plus my parents and my brother's anniversaries. Like, the shortest month is basically the busiest for my family in terms of celebrations. Why did they do this? I don't know, no one uses sense in this family besides me.
MOVING ON! Bout to enter into a All My Woes episode.
Superstition S3
Still on break. Do not ask me when it's coming back. Because I'm going to do what I should've done (and what you guys thought I do already) and actually write a good bit of it. I'll probably put up a poll asking if you guys want to keep the bi-weekly schedule or if I just update it as the episodes are complete.
Throne of Ashes
Working on updating the demo with Makaio's finished demo and some bug fixes for the other routes. Nour is next and Ozara will be following them on that upload schedule.
Insight
Because unlike its cousin, For the Crown, Insight is not 100% dead, it's more like on life support. But I'll be updating it with the new UI that I have to bring it in line with the others. Also an additional chapter will be added so now the demo will end at Ch5.
Future T here. I've already updated it with the new UI and the first bug fix. A bigger one is coming so still, if you find any bugs, hold off on sending them in. Bug reports make me depressed and you guys don't want to see that, right? RIGHT?!
Horizon: Sea of Stars
Per my "do what ya want" lifestyle, yes, Tierra has done it again. She has said fuck it to common sense and those two friends out of ten that said don't do it, and she went and made a new project. I blame eight friends who inspire me in the most negative ways because I never blame myself. Never blame yourselves, you're never toxic, it's those around you. (That's a lie, do not quote me. My god.)
This is a scif-fi project (because I needed to have the holy trinity of the best genres out there to make myself feel complete (jokes on me I still feel empty)). The MC is like Phoenix MC in some ways where this is not exactly 100% self-insert friendly, there are a few traits included and mindsets that you as the reader can't change. 6 romances, 2 males, 2 females, and 2 nonbinary. 5 of the 6 are aliens. And art is on it's way with two of the characters already done. I have art of the alien species as well because I know how difficult it can be to picture an alien based off of descriptions alone. They will be included in story to further help.
This is me just telling you guys, I'll post all of the info of the book itself with the demo like I normally do. Especially when I figure out where I want the demo to stop at. It's still pretty much in alpha mode with only one chapter done and even that is still seeing edits.
Also if any of you have got this far and know an artist or you are someone who can do really nice colorful covers and are good with backgrounds then tell me because I'm still searching for a cover artist.
. . .
There is also now a Light Mode on some stories. If it's not there then it's being worked on. Don't look at Superstition, it's not there.
Alright, I think that's it. I'm going to go lie down and scream at the heavens about my neck.
Future T again. My neck is better but if I look over my shoulder it's like "naw girl, stop that."

hey, i'm new to cr fandom and wasn't there when c2 was airing, may i ask out of curiosity what was the fandom's problem with its ending?
i want to start by saying this post is meant as a personal memory and not an incitement of any discourse. i do not want a lot of asks or replies or anything about this if i can help it. i would also politely ask that no one reblog this as i really just. dont want attention about this when ive discussed it to death on twitter. i also apologize for not having screenshots but i truly cannot bring myself to wade through that again. it was bad enough i still have nightmares about it.
basically, about 3 eps before c2's end, matt clarified on twitter the campaign was coming to a close, and that. did not go well. you see, folk (myself included, though i wasnt part of the following clown show) were very sure c2 would continue a while. it felt unfinished as the empire/trent had to be taken down, and for some of us ludinus was clearly the big bad, etc. so this was incredibly jarring to a lot of folk. and with that came anger. a lot of critique came down to fear of things being rushed, a lack of closure, claims of extreme neoliberialism due to not taking down the empire (i could write an essay on and cite multiple leftist activists who have stated c2 is truthful to the activist tale, not neoliberalism, and also how c3 deconstructs beau & caleb's actions, but everyone is allowed to have their own opinion on it), and that if shadowgast did not fuck in this short timespan the fans were going to kill liam & matt. and threats of killing were the least of what ensued. im just gonna put a tw here for discussion of extreme harrassment and even threat of necrophilia/rape:
people were. atrocious. beyond atrocious. know why 4sd/a lot of q&a events of theirs for a while had no fan questions? partially bc fans were frankly terrible at asking non-ship questions on talks machina, but mainly because folk FILLED their inboxes with insults (and a twitter account was made of screenshots bragging about it) that only the crew would get to filter out, not the cast. know why dani was terrified to show her face on 4sd for a bit? c2 fans would not let up on how it was her cishet fault fjorjester happened. people thought the solution to alleged neoliberalism was to therefore @ travis saying they would defile his veteran fathers corpse. if there was any solid discussion critiquing c2 happening, it was so drowned that actors who had nothing to do with the show told cr fans to stay away if that was how they treated their favorite creators wanting a break. it really didnt help that a certain disgraced talks machina host was firing potshots on twitter when the cast seemed to be just trying to take it all in, so more discourse was kicked up from him. in general besides all of that, you had the average death & even a few rape threats you would expect from the pits of fan entitlement. the way they were hardly the most notable of the insults hurled their way still rattles the mind. and thats just what i saw. my friends have claimed to have seen worse, but if we can help it we dont discuss it in detail, it's that bad. like i said, any idea of an actual conversation about c2 and how someone felt about it from an analysis perspective was not even a drop in the bucket; there was no actual discourse but rather spitting hatred pouring over that mistook personal grievances for excuses to mistreat quite literally anyone around them who didnt agree that threatening to defile someone was funny bittersweet revenge.
the thing is, after the c2 finale happened? i mean, a lot of folk didnt originally like it (i think it's generally pretty well liked now, and i enjoy it), but it wrapped up a lot of issues pretty well. all that terror & terrorizing over a fictional story was really for nothing. and even if it had ended undebateably badly did anything warrant that fallout?
there are of course a few other factors that seperate cast from fandom now. laura also got innumerable threats from tlou fans for playing some antagonist character, twitter is a dysfunctional shithole, and it's just rational the more popular you get to not be buddy-buddy with fans. but that was. a Time, for sure. c3 is a decent campaign but im far from the first person to note that many of its traits are set in trying to find vox machina's fixed story beats so no story beat is left "unturned" and being as un-m9-like as possible, even when they love the m9. a lot of the worst m9 fans now who harrass other campaign enjoyers and lament c2 being "an unloved middle child" are folk who never left the bitterness they held in that time. for as much discourse as c3 has kicked up i really dont think any of it compares to the sheer scale of what happened late may 2021, and im hoping with all my heart it never does reach that level ever again (i think c3 has a slightly smaller (at least online) fanbase compared to c2, and isnt marked by a pandemic hiatus, so hopefully that means something).
i hope i answered your question. i really hate remembering this time but sometimes i think it should be remembered so folk know what the cost of extreme parasociality is. the distance the cast has from fans now is not only earned but maybe should have always been there, so things never evolved to that extremity. but now it's done and gone. i envy people who watch cr on their own merits and didn't get sucked into twitter at the time; it has been fascinating watching folk say they love the travelercon/aeor arcs and the ending. rewatching later c2 really emphasizes how many complaints hinged on extremely online & parasocial headspaces - you definitely wont hear anyone nowadays say liam is a biphobic cishet abusing matt by not making caleb kiss essek yet. i hope new fans have a better time than we did. oh - and get off twitter.

Rambler @ PAX East 2024
Hi folks! I just got back from PAX East over the weekend and, while I didn't really take part in the Expo Hall besides a couple of stalls, I did go to a decent number of panels - and thought it was worth writing up my thoughts on each of them. The only thing I love more than playing video games is hearing people talk about video games!
(I didn't take notes while I was there so this will be certainly more of a "vibes"-based assessment and why each one appealed to me personally, so apologies if you came here looking for a more objective description of each panel! I'll put links to the VOD of each panel where available)
Panels and thoughts below the read-more (it's long as heck! get ready):
Metroid: A Community Retrospective and Look Toward the Future
Having only played Metroid Prime 3: Corruption and Metroid: Dread in my time, I wouldn't call myself a hardcore fan - but they are both games I've really enjoyed, and Samus Aran's pivotal positioning as a female character in video gaming history is always fascinating to me, so I had to check this one out.
It's so surreal to see the ways that a community like this had to adapt to long "dry spells" without any official new material for their fandom, and the joy that follows when something like Dread comes along to reaffirm their love for it. I don't know that I learned anything new from this panel myself, but it was still heartening to hear the panellists' clear passion for the games, and it does make me want to dip my toes into other Metroids (at the very least, the other two Prime games!)
Unlocking the Positive Potential of Gaming for Kids and Teens
I hadn't originally planned to go to this one, but met two of the panellists (Dr. David Bickham and Sam Schamm, MA) while eating brunch by the food trucks, and hearing them briefly discuss the subject matter fascinated me enough that I decided to pop along to it.
This was a deeply insightful panel on the ways that gaming can meaningfully help young people and foster their learning, agency, critical thinking, and other useful life skills - as well as thoughts on how to help them through the risks associated with gaming such as toxic multiplayer communities or, for want of a better word, the addictive potential of gaming. Having previously worked in a job which involved helping teenagers make informed decisions about their futures myself, it meant a lot to me to see serious academic thought being given to the subject given how prevalent gaming is as part of a child's social life these days. Excellent panel!
Mental Health and Gaming - Creating a Safe Space for Yourself and Others
While a difficult topic, I am nevertheless glad that I went to this panel as it covered the way that streamers and other "community figures" can navigate the creation of a safe space in the form of their community while also maintaining effective boundaries within that space. Of particular interest to me was reframing some of the language that often gets used in this context e.g. "trauma-dumping" and unpacking our own biases when dealing with uncomfortable situations.
If I had any minor criticisms of the panel, it would be that some of the suggestions occasionally felt like they veered a little too far into the side of... I guess trying to fix the lives of strangers? Now, in the interests of fairness I shall state my own biases that lead to this feeling, because it is not that I do not care about what happens to people: it is precisely because I've had to manage my own proclivity towards hyper-empathy in the past that I tend to take a step back from my emotions on that regard these days. Caring is good, but caring to the point of self-destruction helps no-one, and that to me feeds into what the panel was saying about boundary maintenance.
My own community is a small handful of regulars and a couple of hundred followers so this has not been something I need to worry about yet, but the panel has hopefully given me some tools with which to manage those situations if they ever arise, and for that I am thankful.
How Our Favorite Characters Have Real World Impacts on Us: A Look into Fictional Characters and ParaSocial Relationships
FASCINATING panel. I originally went to this because of my memories of being in the Gorillaz fandom and the weird and wonderful (and sometimes ugly) ways people interacted with the idea of the fictional band members in that space... But the conversation proved to cover a broad spectrum both of what constitutes a parasocial relationship AND what constitutes a fictional character; the panellists made the case that the personas of content creators and streamers themselves counted as fictional characters, and I think they are absolutely bang-on with that.
From my end as a Z-list Player of Games Online, even I am presenting a more polished version of myself there than I would have in the rest of my life - it's not "not me", but it's certainly not all of me, and that is enough to make "Well-Spoken Rambler" a somewhat distinct entity from the person who portrays them.
The inclusion of internet personalities into their definition ALSO meant, however, that at the Q&A I got to name-drop one of my favourite journal articles that I've read this year: The one-and-a-half sided parasocial relationship: The curious case of live streaming. This article holds deeply interesting connotations to me because of what it implies about the "half" of the one-and-a-half... which is that of course, behind the fiction of a "creator" is the person who creates, and that person is just as capable of developing fictionalised ideas of the people in their community (though with a more removed and likely self-aware perspective on it). The panellists had heard of the article and mentioned it was on their to-read list, but agreed it tied in well with the themes of the panel!
(... And yet the reason I was able to re-find the article so quickly is because I had linked it to a creator in a Patreon Direct Message a couple months ago because I thought it would be interesting to them... The irony is not lost on me. More on that later.)
Debate Club with Mari and PeeGTV
This was just a fun old time! I wasn't familiar with Mari or PG before watching this panel, but they have such a fun rapport here that I want to try and watch them more regularly now that I know of them. Jenna Stoeber acted as a firm but fair adjudicator of the panel - and I am definitely not just saying that because she is a recent convert to the Rambler channel and was pleasant and kind when we bumped into each other on the expo floor. She did a great job letting both sides of the debate (Millennial horror vs Gen Z horror) shine. If you listen closely around the 34 minute mark, you may hear a familiar little British voice raise a point about how you can't judge a horror by its synopsis!
Thinking Differently Together: Neurodivergence & Gaming
Folks... I am so so glad that there is a much greater emphasis on self-advocacy these days than there used to be. Look! Look at all those ND creators talking about their experiences and being listened to!! Look how it has a VOD so I can just link it and you can all see it too!!! Conversations like this one in a major event like PAX are a hopeful sign to me that progress is being fought for and won.
Only minor critiques for this one are:
could have used some discussion about more than just the usual ADHD/autism bracket that is discussed when it comes to neurodiversity (but then I think that about most ND discussions)
would personally have liked some chat about accessibility concerns while creating/streaming and neurodivergent (e.g. personally had to tweak my lighting because it was overstimulating me while I streamed)
Otherwise great panel!
Bridging the Gender Gap (13+)
Another great panel for encouraging diversity in the games industry - I appreciated the intersectionality of this one as well as the honest discussions about the ways in which things still need to be made *considerably* better throughout all corners of gaming. The panel also discusses actionable steps which could be taken to improve on these issues.
Surprised at myself for not having much to say about this one! I just think the panellists did a really good and succinct job at talking about the subject.
A Hunter's Dream: Bloodborne and Transness
I enjoyed this panel a whole lot - Having watched a playthrough of Bloodborne last year, hearing two trans women discussing the different trans allegories and interpretation of the characters and themes and lore of the game felt absolutely correct, even if it wasn't "canon".
If one was being pedantic one could call this the least polished of the panels I went to, but I honestly don't think that matters tremendously because both panellists were so utterly sincere about what they were covering that it carried the panel. You could easily tell just how much the subject matter meant to the two and it in turn meant a lot to me that they were willing to share it with a bunch of strangers as we were.
And then...
Um, Actually: The Panel
Hoooooo boy.
So remember earlier when I mentioned the irony of using Patreon DMs to grab an article about nonstandard parasocial interactions?
Tumblr media
[ID: a meme image of Morpheus from the Matrix saying "What if I told you the guy I sent that article to is at a PAX East panel"]
So of course the panel for the Dropout show Um, Actually was being hosted by its two new presenters, Ify Nwadiwe and Brian David Gilbert:
Tumblr media
Ify had been a wonderful host so far, and I really enjoy his work in general (especially his stint recently on Very Important People), so I was looking forward to meeting him.
...And then there's Brian, who has been streaming on Twitch for just under the past four years and who in that time has been subject to hundreds of my fun facts, insightful commentaries, and helpful actions (which he very much appreciated). That, alongside regularly taking part in Patreon livestreams, has led to a strange situation where I would not consider us friends, but we... don't not know each other? but we also don't know each other? Which is why the "one-and-a-half-sided" description in that article and the panel about parasocialness appealed to me (and why I sent the article to him too).
So of course when this panel got announced I wasn't gonna miss it. I really enjoyed what I've seen of Ify's hosting and Brian's fact-finding so far, and I wasn't gonna miss the chance to see the two chat about it - nor to potentially meet the guy who helped me raise £500 for ASAN last year.
But, turns out I wasn't the only one enthused by the panel, because it was Absolutely Rammed, like, an hour and a half before the panel started. I got lucky in that I managed to end up somewhere in the middle of the pack and got into the panel at all, but good grief did it remind me how I don't do well in crowds (even well-managed crowds, thank you PAX Enforcers xx).
It caused me to reflect a lot on the perceived casualness with which I interacted with Brian on Twitch versus the material reality of the level of interest from a LOT of people which he manages. It's the kind of thing which makes me wish to never become famous, because I don't know that I'd have it in me to manage that level of attention from everyone - even the very occasional instance of people recognising me online FROM Brian's streams and acting like it's a big deal always throws me off a bit (this has happened to me several times, I'm not even kidding!)
Tumblr media
But then of course the Enforcers got us all in neatly and sweetly, and the panel was a delight! It was fun to hear Ify and Brian (and Jenna!!) talk about working on the show and the kinds of things they enjoyed putting in and what to expect next - such as another new season after the current one, as it deserves.
There was also a live session of Um, Actually questions which was at the time enjoyable, but since then numerous allegations of cheating and defamation have come to light against one of the participants, Gabe Hicks, and it is disheartening that something as grievous as this could have been going on that very weekend. I hope that justice and reparations can be made for the people affected by this, and I am going to move on out of courtesy to those involved.
After the panel, a meet-and-greet line formed for both Ify and Brian outside of the theatre and I was able to join it - it also felt important to me that I follow the proper procedures and not assume any privileges, since I know full well how that kind of thing can read and wanted to put my best foot forward, so to speak.
The play-by-play of our eventual meeting is as follows:
I greeted Ify first on purpose to let him know that he was doing a great job as the new Um, Actually host and I liked him in VIP
I then went to greet Brian, but at that point he had very blatantly already cottoned onto who I was and seemed very enthusiastic that I was there. I didn't feel any sense of star-struckedness, it was more like that sense of when you talk to someone online and then meet them in person - surreal, but not stressful.
Jenna took that moment to gently interrupt so she could rendezvous with the two men before the line ended - seemingly because of our vague familiarity and prior assumption of goodwill on our parts
I made sure to pass along some greetings from a few Discord servers formed around Brian's Twitch streams I was in, which Brian appreciated, and gave him a small gift which I brought with me - a small bottle of vivid iridescent nail polish (Ciaté London's "Forbidden Fruit", sadly out of production now), since nail painting and structural colour is somewhat of a shared interest of ours
Tumblr media
Brian made sure to specifically compliment me on my shirt, to which I admitted the reason I wore it was because I knew Brian was the only person there who would appreciate it fully: it was from a game of Tee KO we played on Patreon at the end of 2022, which Brian won using a VERY existential t-shirt illustrated by myself:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(sidenote, after repeated success with these silly skeletons in subsequent games of Tee KO, I am very close to just selling my own legally-distinct skeleton shirt if I ever have a merch page)
Finally, I asked if we three could cap off the meeting with a video'd selfie, to which they graciously obliged me:
youtube
Having filmed what can only be described as a Cannes-worthy masterpiece, I said my goodbyes to them and made my way to the next panel...
The PAX Panel Show
Tumblr media
...Which was just in the same theatre as the last panel, and with Jenna hosting and Brian on the panel. What a glorious event! I am so sad this one didn't get recorded - a truly deranged set of questions, including Portmantoad (guessing which video games have had their names spliced together based on the description of the resulting fusion), Ornstein and Sullivan (guessing whether a named character was from a Fromsoft game or from an opera), and a whole bunch of real-world questions about farming?? Joke's on all these city-slicker panellists, I grew up on a smallholding! So I was... actually no better at those farm questions than them. I can't tell you about industrial farming practices, but I can tell you how to hold a chicken! (gently, like a big hamburger).
After the panel, I approached Jenna one last time at the con and suggested that, given the inherent strangeness of our interactions (wherein we have become Twitch mutuals but still at best distant acquaintances) it would be funny if we took a selfie but made out like she was "the fan". She saw the funny side of it:
Tumblr media
[ID: a tweet by Well-Spoken Rambler @wellspokentweet reading "Always a pleasure to meet a fan, @the_jenna", below which is a selfie featuring Well-Spoken Rambler and Jenna Stoeber. A reply from Jenna beneath this reads "HONORED TO MEET YOU, BIG FAN <3" in all-caps.]
Play What You Don't Know with DesiQuest
Tumblr media
This was my last panel of PAX, and a bit of a last-minute wildcard! After relaying the above events to my good friend Hamish, he told me that his friend Omar would be doing a panel the following day, and that I should go and see it. And I am very glad I did!
It was really heartening to learn that a podcast like DesiQuest exists - a D&D actual play featuring an all-South-Asian cast and touching on the disparate cultures and themes that connect with them and their audience. As someone who is of Sri Lankan descent but without the cultural upbringing, it's something that appeals to me personally as another way to try and reconnect with that heritage. Definitely catching up on this one over the week!
I also got to say hi to Omar from Hamish, and it was a nice bonding moment cut short by my having to BOOK IT to a water taxi and conclude my time in Boston for good.
...
Phew!
Well, thanks for reading all of that if you did! It was a weekend that was at once fun, interesting, and thought-provoking. I still don't consider myself someone who seeks out big events, but being much more free and able to take part in those kinds of things now is super refreshing and I hope at some point (though not in the immediate future, boy was that expensive) I will be able to go again! Or at least do other events like that. Possibly something a bit quieter, but conventions don't usually run in flavours of "quiet", haha. Perhaps next time I'll bring business cards to recklessly self-promote better with.
See you around!

Legendborn
Tumblr media
Um??????????
I put this book off for so long because a) I heard the next book in the series only comes out in 2025 and I didn't want to be left hanging, and b) I wasn't the biggest fan when I heard there was a (sigh) love triangle in there. And yet here I am, having finished it at long last.
Confession: I was/am in the middle of something like a reading slump. February has not been kind to me with my reads. When the Ann Liang book I was anticipating for months let me down horrifically, ALL the books that followed either fell flat too or were just… middling. I went through book after book feeling empty, and then I told myself: you know what. Legendborn has been on EVERYONE and their mother's radar, and their responses are the same—near unanimous acclaim. It's honestly quite insane.
So I took a gamble. I got the book and started reading it.
You can TELL. You can just TELL when a book hits right for you, unlike the ones I read before it. I was hooked. Engaged. Totally captivated. I'd read and DNFed another fantasy book just weeks ago, which also utilised King Arthur lore (titled Silver in the Bone), but somehow Legendborn succeeded where that story failed (for me). Maybe I'm just a basic bitch who's a sucker for the typical storyline of a normal girl finding herself entangled with a group of monster slayers and doing tournaments to become one of them. (Is this why… I was instantly enthralled with the Infernal Devices??? Or why I love Demon Slayer—the anime—so much????? I am finding out new things about myself.)
But sure… the beginning isn't anything too different from traditional YA structures. But as you get going, and you continue down the road, you start to see new grounds being tread, and it deviates from anything I've personally read as a teen.
As usual, even though I loved this book, I'm going to do what I almost always do and explore the dichotomy of what I liked and didn't.
Spoilers abound.
Didn't like:
It was predictable… up to a point (and then I was GOBSMACKED but we'll get to that later). Like, I knew pretty quickly which characters were going to make it to Squires and which weren't. You could just tell from how the author treated certain Pages (the folks trying to be Squires) in a more favourable light. The nice ones win, the not-nice ones don't. I'd have liked more nuance in their characterisation, TBH.
Speaking of which, however, Bree's characterisation at the start was rough. Like, she'd do stupid shit and get in trouble and continue being irresponsible. I wasn't surprised Alice was mad at her, and I don't think that the trouble she faced stemmed solely from her race but rather her irresponsible behaviour (going off-campus when she already knows that's grounds for expulsion and she STILL gets mad when the dean, who decides to let her off, is churlish with her. Seriously?). That said, I am NOT Black, and I can't speak for the quotidian prejudices they face, so take my perception of it with a grain of salt. In any case, Bree changed and this was no longer an issue for me later on.
Nick. And his whole romance with Bree. Like, I really did NOT care. And Nick was pretty much a white boy-damsel in distress the entire story. Every time screen time was devoted to their romance, my eyes would glaze over and I'd start skimming all the kissing and stuff.
There were a lot of characters. Like, a lot. Too many. My brain was scrambling trying to remember and place everyone in their different roles. And aside from a few (bless William), they didn't have very distinct voices. Greer had, like, ZERO distinctive voice other than being non-binary, which should not be the only thing to define a character. Whitty was… nice, is all? Everyone kinda just melded in my brain, which is probably why none of the character deaths really hit me.
I'm not a huge fan of Chosen One tropes. But this does play on the trope in a VERY interesting way.
WHAT I LIKED (!!!!!!!!!!!):
The whole concept of Root and Bloodcraft. I LOVED how the author used magic to convey the colonisation of white men. The idea that Legendborns forcefully TAKE their power, while non-Bloodcraft users only borrow their power, speaks volumes to me. It was such a good way to portray real life.
Also??? The ending twist about Bree????? All along, I was convinced she was secretly the Scion of Lancelot, but I wasn't sure HOW, because all the knights are obviously white. And then the author pulls a fast one on me and she's actually fucking Arthur. The reasoning is so good. I loved how the White Man's own cruelty and their disgusting ownership of Black people led them to this predicament. I think THIS was the part that truly sold me on how terrific and unique this book was.
Characters-wise… William. Like, I adore the fuck out of him. In another world, in an even less conventional book, William would have been the hero for me. He's exactly my type with how calm and confident he was without needing to be overbearing about it. In fact, he was so gentle. (Makes me think of Jem Carstairs, but obviously Jem is THE published blueprint for types like this.)
Sel. Yes, I know I just talked about how I didn't like overbearing characters, and I initially went into this book expecting to hate him, but… :) I thought he was quite justified in his hatred / distrust towards Bree at first, knowing what he knew about how the mesmer and Oaths didn't take. I'll see if my opinion of him changes in the sequel.
I  really, really liked how for once, King Arthur wasn't depicted as just some hero. He actually seemed almost villainous in this book, especially in the moments when Bree was possessed by him. What happened to her supposedly getting wisdom when she Awakened, though? This man does not sound wise at all. I am intrigued.
I am so glad I read this book. SO GLAD. I was down in the dumps for a bit and finally reading a good fantasy made me feel a thousand times better. I'm a bit nervous reading the sequel because some things often don't live up to their predecessor, so I shall see.

(Ok I really wanted to put my thoughts somewhere as someone who is hugely invested in Our Flag Means Death but is a fandom lurker so I am putting them here on this no-followers Tumblr account I made to follow OFMD and Good Omens artists. )
Like many others, OFMD blew my mind open in a way no other piece of media has. I am a visual artist and a musician and this show helped me access my creativity in vivid new ways, learned new skills, chased down cultural references, and just lit a spark in me.
But almost as much as that, I can't even express what following the creativity of this fandom has done for my art, my mental health, my capacity for joy. I am immensely grateful for the show itself but also for the creators of fan fiction (which I had NEVER read before this), art, crafts, etc. Like, jaw-on-the-floor astounding talent from so many people, all coming from a place of love.
I wanted to give a shout out to a couple of artists and works that have affected me deeply the past few years. I tried to tag folks who have tumblrs.
Mottlemoth's Hell or High Water was the first fan fiction I ever read. A classic. An epic. A beauty. What more can even be said?
@mxmollusca In Favor with Their Stars held me captive and showed me a genre I wouldn't have thought to explore. I am teaching myself how to play piano because of songs featured in this piece. Very. Strong. Preference.
Lyd Sirabella and sneesbee, whose art is framed on my walls and whenever I see them it makes me happy.
Finally, @faeeeebaeeee Lottie's "Pina Coladas" SMAU - what do I even say, it is one of the most beautiful works of fiction I have ever read and it will stick with me forever. I hope they one day can get it printed physically, it is something I would love to have.
There are honestly so many others but I just wanted to share some feelings from this little anonymous queerdo in the Midwest who loves and appreciates everything this creative and beautiful community has done. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU

Some folks in a friend group are getting into arknights and I'm still relatively new myself, while I can help with some stuff the question of basics towards team comp/prio are what gets me. Probably not some easy answer since it depends on their specifics but would you say there's a rough composition for early squads?
A good way to start feeling out how team composition works is to make a plate full of 3*s, make a checklist, and move out from there. Let's do a little exercise:
Let's say that I want to clear SN-10. I've seen SN-10, I know what it entails, I know what components I need in order to solve the puzzle known as "SN-10", I just need to fit the legos in, I just need to fit the guns, ammo and herbs into Leon's RE4 briefcase.
Let's also say I'm not experienced with team building, but want to trapsaise into the marvelous world of Knowing What It Did. This is what I do:
Tumblr media
First, make a squad of 3*. This is my personal preference when it comes to an all-rounder 3* squad: It's as fundamental as you can get. This is pure, undiluted, picking-Mario-in-Mario-Kart Arknights, no gimmicks, no tricks. You have your Decel Binder, you have your Centurion, your Lord, two Marksmen, a Core Caster, Healer, two Defenders (one of which can moonlight as an additional Healer), two Vanguards, and your last slot, your Assassin. If an Assassin isn't needed, I'd swap out Melantha for an additional Healer or maybe an AoE Caster (Lava). We have damage of both types, we have healing, we have utility, we have DP generation, we have blocking. This is a template for general use needs, before accounting for anything else.
Now, that said, this is just a template. What does SN-10 need?
(the rest under a Read More since images make it get pretty long)
Burst, we need to quickly kill a multi-phase, hard to block boss (unblockable phase 1, needs 3-block on phases 2, 3 and 4, without accounting for additional upgrades it might get with its gimmick), and fast. Ideally, we have Arts Damage in this burst, as Phase 2 most likely will involve the boss getting a huge buff to Defense.
Assassination power, we need to deal with the upper right enemies before they can overlap, or the boss with get multiple buffs instead of just one.
Lane Holding, this is a map with several enemies, and it's a long map at that, with certain enemies having high damage.
Ways to deal with Dodge, such as Silence, True Damage, or immobilizing crowd control that knocks away Dodge from these particular enemies for a bit.
Ways to deal with Elemental Damage. Nervous Impairment is a powerful enemy crowd control effect, we ideally have a counter.
So, we now have our checklist of specific map needs. Let's address them by using our 3* Squad and swapping in appropriate units that can fit these needs:
Tumblr media
By replacing units appropriately to their lower rarity counterparts in terms of utility, not necessarily archetype (Midnight -> Lappland, Fang & Plume -> Myrtle & Bagpipe, Ansel and Orchid -> Mulberry & the Corrupting Heart, etc), we can start covering our needs without getting careless and forgetting the fundamentals of any general use team. We're not trying to not forget these so they always remain covered, rather, it's so we can make the following judgment: "Do I need this?":
Do I need a healing defender? No -> Spot is out and instead of putting something like Nearl or Saria, I put in Horn, because I want more Damage.
Do I need an Assassin? Yes -> Do I need more than one? It would make things easier -> We remove Melantha, and add Jaye and Schwarz.
Do I need two Vanguards that can block or DPS? Just one suffices -> We add Bagpipe to do battle, and Myrtle as pure utility support.
Do I need two defenders? Not necessarily -> Remove Beagle.
Do I need Burst? Yes -> What damage type? Both would be good -> Horn, Surtr and Irene -> *NOTE: Horn is multitasking, keep this in mind.
What kind of Laneholding do I need? -> Map is straightforward, one single lane -> Horn and Irene hold southern bottleneck.
What's kind of healing does this map need? Two healers -> The Corrupting Heart's S2 healing is enough for the damage the enemy brings on the southern bottleneck, whereas Mulberry can cover the northern aisle. Corrupting Heart also assists damage dealing.
Do I need to handle Nervous Impairment? Yes -> Mulberry in the area where it matters most to mitigate it.
Do I need Silence? Yes -> Lappland on the main bottleneck in the south, Jaye S1 for assassination purposes.
Do I need Snipers? No -> Remove Kroos and Adnachiel; Schwarz is here for priority killing important targets.
And that's how I got to that roster. I now have two empty slots. These slots can be for whatever you want.
In the northern part, there's a second aisle coming from the west that pours in additional enemies -> If I put Corrupting Heart on the southeast tile, her healing reaches the center tile, I can put a Centurion or Dollkeeper there -> Laurentina -> How will she deal with Dodge? -> Surplus Hands of the Saint suffice.
Free slot -> More DPS? Texas for more DP on startup? Phantom? -> Not necessary, might consider a source of Stun like Ash if I really need it -> Trust farm slot -> Jordi.
Tumblr media
And here we go! Our SN-10 is ready to go!
Now, this might seem like a super duper lengthy process, but in actuality, it's really fast. Once you get used to team building, you just naturally pick your units in a matter of seconds, and you don't need a template, you just know what your roster does and what it can provide to the war effort.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But yeah, this is a good way to start: Note what the map needs, make sure to replace similar roles in your 3* Template, and the rest follows naturally.
And, of course, you’ll notice that units that can cover for multiple roles are very good. Multitask-capable units will likely form the core of your formations. This is why Horn, Thorns and the like are so good.

I've been thinking over my "Homework Assignment" from my Rabbi, concerning Rosh Hashanah today ... I've been putting it off because of stress, but now a lot of that stress has been alleviated; a post from Challah.Mom on Instagram today reminded me that it's not too far away now and I really need to get into gear.
I celebrated last year as a Noahide, so my involvement was limited: A dip in the Sailboat Launch for my Mikveh. A prayer of dedication of myself to my Ancestors, and an embracing of my pathing. And an attempt at a Moon Meditation that was interrupted by a truck of people who gave us bad vibes.
This year, however, I will be celebrating it as a Jew-to-Be ... What does that look like to me? What traditions do I find meaningful and want to bring into my Jewish life moving forward? Who do I want to be as a Jew?
Despite the fact I know that none of these decisions are binding; that they don't have to be permanent, and I'll have my whole life to try things out and develop a rich and meaningful practice ... It all still feels so big right now. Especially since our "Homework" is thinking of (and performing) a Segula that represents this- which we'll actively discuss in class afterwards.
Tumblr media
I know I definitely want to do the immersion at the Loch again. That was such a powerful experience last year that I can't imagine not doing it again. I think this year, though, I'll do a Milk Bath before I go out there? Especially since it's traditional to fully bathe before dipping in a proper Mikveh- which I didn't know last year.
I love the idea of Taslich (alt). But I think if I did that, I'd probably want to use flower petals instead of the traditional bread that's used. Mostly because bread is horrible for the Ducks and Geese, and other wild fowl we have in abundance here; throwing Peas- which would be more appropriate for them- just doesn't give the vibe for me. I'm not sure flower petals really do, either, but they're at least not destructive and that feels important to me.
Performing Hatarat Nedarim in some way (likely "in the presence of" HaShem, Chava, and Adam, like so much of my Folk Magic has been modified to be done when it requires a tri-fold presence) also feels important to me.
I feel like performing Hatarat Nedarim and then Taslich at sunset, and then following that up with the ritual immersion in the Loch after sundown, would really elevate something that was already an incredibly powerful spiritual experience for me last year ... At least in theory, anyways. But I'll likely have to do it the second night of Rosh Hashanah celebrations this year because I'll be at Synagogue for the first night, and it'll be way late in the evening before we get out.
I haven't seen it anywhere else except for Chabad, but apparently there's also a tradition in some communities of lighting Candles both evenings. I love this idea, too, and can already think of so much symbolism inherent in it as a New Year's custom even though there really wasn't any actually listed for it.
Since it's also "the day the Earth was created", I really want to fold that into my own observance somehow ... But I'm not really sure how to do that at all; I don't feel like it'd be appropriate to fold in plants, or Adam and Chava, since both Plants (and the soil), and Humanity were all technically created later ... But Adam and Chava might make an appearance in my Yom Kippur celebrations afterwards?
On a related note: Since Rosh Hashanah's also the time when HaShem opens The Book of Life and begins inscribing names- with the sealing of names occurring on Yom Kippur ... I kind of like the idea of continuing to recite Unetaneh Tokef up until Yom Kippur, rather than only reciting it for Rosh Hashanah. I also like the idea of actually praying Amidah the full thrice daily during Rosh Hashanah and up until Yom Kippur, too. Especially since prayer is such an integral and powerful part of my personal practice ... But I don't actually know if I'd be able to sustain that? I may try and see how it goes, and if not then that's ok!
As for the Segula I'm tasked with figuring out and performing ... I genuinely have no idea still. I may not know until I actually get to that point. Or maybe my Segula will be celebrating at all. Who knows.
This account is run by a Dual Faith «(Converting) Masorti Jew + Traditional NeoWiccan» & «Ancestral Folk Magic Practitioner» with 20+ years of experience as a practicing Pagan and Witch. If that bothers you, don't interact.
