and you know, i also really hope that when we get around to getting the manga adaptations of the battle season, they fit in all the character moments put into the vr battles like imagine not getting in depth looks into how ramuda felt watching gendice continuously throwing themselves in the line of fire until he just couldn’t take it any more, or ichiro slowly standing tall after after rei told him off and clapping back with such powerful conviction, and the like 😤

Hey, what is Hypnosis Mic, if you don't mind explaining? Dude in your icon looks cool...
Definitely don’t mind!! Thank you for giving me an excuse to talk about it! Hypnosis Mic is one of those big “multimedia projects” Japanese companies put out sometimes. It started as a series of albums with music and drama tracks, and has grown to include several manga, a musical, a mobile game, and an anime that just started last week (which is why I’m becoming obsessed with it again, lol). The premise is in a near-future world where, after WWIII, a group of women called the Party of Words overthrows the government of Japan, outlaws conventional weapons, and introduces “Hypnosis Microphones”--microphones that can cause mental (and...clothing...? and maybe physical? it’s unclear) damage through rapping. Of course. So yeah, the main characters in the series are all groups of men who participate in rap battles that are sanctioned by the government for political power. It has a lot in common with idol series, but instead of just straight “I wanna be the very best idol performer!” you’ve got all these bonkers government conspiracies and drama playing out in the background, so everything’s turned up to 11. It’s pretty cheesy but it has some really fun characters/great actors and I love it! The anime is licensed by Funimation so they’re the ones streaming it legally, at least in the US. Manga hasn’t been licensed in English but there’s fan translations for those being done on Tumblr by @slugtranslation-hypmic. Most (if not all) of the music and drama tracks are on Spotify, and fans have made translations for those--you can find them all over but they’re all gathered on the fan wiki. The fact that they didn’t region-lock the tracks on Spotify is part of how I became a fan, it’s really neat how accessible the albums are! It’s great fun, I super recommend it! (Also the character in my icon is Jakurai, and he’s voiced by Show Hayami, who voiced Remington in the Chrono Crusade anime. So if you’re one of the people that follows me for CC stuff...that’s a fun connection!)

can you explain hypnosis Mic to me and how to get into it?
*rubs hands together like a fly*
Of course! And I may get some stuff wrong so folks can swoop in and correct me~
Hypnosis Mic is a multimedia seiyuu project started by King Records. The basic concept is that it’s year H after the third world war, leaving a lot of the population dead. Basically, the women in this world (in Japan, anyway) were absolutely fed up with this nonsense, staged a coup d’etat, and all weapons were banned. The only weapon left is the Hypnosis Microphone, which mainly inflicts mental damage (or heals, if you’re Jakurai) when rapped into. Outside of the capital (Chuuoku) the world is split into “divisions.” Men aren’t allowed into the capital save for specific events and clearance, so all of them live out in these divisions.
The story focuses on 4 main divisions: Ikebukuro (Buster Bros!), Yokohama (Mad Trigger Crew), Shibuya (Fling Posse), and Shinjuku (Matenrou).
There are a bunch of different places to listen to the music, Soundcloud is the main one I’ve seen, but if you’re able to listen on Spotify I recommend that. I usually tell people to start with Champagne Gold, Drops, BATTLE BATTLE BATTLE, Ore ga Ichiro, Yokohama Walker, and Shibuya Marble Texture!
(I also rly like Sensenfukou because that was the one that dragged me in here and Meikyuu Kabe because best boy)
You can find the translations of the drama tracks HERE (though this blog also has a TON of useful translations!) THIS is also a great crash course by Tokyo Otaku Mode. The manga is also out, and a rhythm game is coming in for the new year! HERE is the main youtube channel! I hope you enjoy! :)
