what matters most about your interests is that they make you happy. whether other people find them productive is irrelevant. you don't have to produce anything. you are not a machine. your interests aren't for others. your interests are for you. do what makes you happy.

ok so we know about the need to infodump, but what about the opposite? The need to absorb more information about your special interest like a sponge, but you literally can’t find any new material because you’ve already consumed every fact about it

honestly the worst thing about adhd for me is that a new hobby or hyperfixation is one of the greatest sources of joy, but its always haunted by the knowledge that it won’t last and i don’t get to decide or even know how long. I can’t count on being interested in anything long term.
it feels like theres a clock ticking above my head and i cant see how much longer i get to enjoy something. i can’t start big projects for fear of never finishing them. i have to hold myself back from anything that requires long-term commitments or consistency because i can’t rely on future-me to follow through.*
when i pace myself and try to casually keep up with something after the hyperfixation ends it just isn’t the same, the joy is gone. when i say fuck it and just let myself run, i end up trying to cram years of a hobby into weeks or months. i bite off way more than i can chew, burn out spectacularly, and spend the next month feeling guilty every time i look at the pile of expensive, unused materials that i sat down one day and never picked back up.
Theres a toll that years of it takes on your self-trust, it compromises your ability to make decisions without second guessing the most basic things. “What will I want?” and “what will I like?” aren’t any less opaque at six months from now than six years. I can’t count on what I want. In a way, I can’t count on myself and there’s a grief that comes along with that.
i see so much about dealing with adhd shame, but i dont think i’ve heard more than one person express the grief that comes with losing something you really love, not because it leaves you, but because your body simply decides without your permission to stop loving it.

Yeah “I know everything about this and I could talk for hours about it” hyperfixations are fun but there’s something about “I get so excited about this that I couldn’t talk about it if I wanted to and I don’t have that much to say anyways because it’s more emotional than reasonable” hyperfixations

Okay now I'm calmer. I see a lot of people talking about the abuser being a hyperfixation or obsession for comfort. So this is going to be some tips.
AN AUTISTIC WITH ADHD'S GUIDE TO HELPING AVOID A OBSESSION/HYPERFIXATION: AKA SO YOUR FAVOURITE FANDOM/CREATOR/ARTIST TURNED OUT TO SUCK. (THATS PUTTING IT LIGHTLY) (P.s. not a professional just from experience)
Tips:
FIND A NEW ONE.
a little difficult but, find something else to satisfy that dopamine hit in your brain. Watch new shows, look at new fandoms. In the case of this specific guy... You have options of plenty of MCYT but here's my recommendations.
For smp content: there is plenty including new ones. Obviously if your here you may know QSMP.
Qsmp:
Creators: philza, badboyhalo, Tubbos, Fitmc, Foolish(gamers), Slimecicle, Iron mouse, nihachu, Quackity, Tina kitten, and many more than speak other languages such as cellbit, pac and Mike ect ect
And many other smps (I don't know much about them I don't watch)
As for other Minecraft YouTubers there is plenty to watch.
Aimsey for example.
Shubble (go give them your support)
And many others
Next tip
INDULGE IN OTHER FOCUS TOPICS
Listen watch and enjoy other dopamine causing likes of yours. Listen to other music. Watch fan art videos of other fandoms you like. Watch animatics. Scroll the tags.

BLOCK THE TAGS UNSUB GET RID OF IT
Block the tags. It's gonna be hard. Just block it. Don't let yourself see it. It's hard but you have to move on. Unsubscribe. Unfollow. Don't let it come up. Be brutal. remove it from Spotify

TAKE A BREAK FROM THE INTERNET.
If your hyperfocus lives in the internet. Do something else. Turn off the phone for a bit. Talk to people around you. Breaking a hyperfixation can cause depression and anxiety. So move away and take some time.

FIND AN OLD FAV
We all have old hyperfixations that died. Or old interests we fell out of. Not be cause it was problematic or anything we just outgrow these things
Go look them up. Watch it. Read it. Enjoy the content and it's fandom maybe you can rekindle an old love
I might add more later
This is all I have energy for
Take some time

if it’s not hurting you or anyone around you and it brings you a sense of peace or joy it’s not silly. it’s not stupid. it’s not annoying. it’s as necessary as the blood in your veins, and im grateful that you have it

Thinking about how the ancient Greeks looked up at the night sky and called what they saw planḗtai ("wanderers"), and today, we call them planets.

does the hyperfixation ever hit you in that extremely particular way where you want to be able to physically eat the thing you're obsessing over or is that just me

i never completely lose interest in anything. if i have become fixated on something at one point in time, there will always be the possibility of me becoming obsessed with it again. all it takes is something to trigger my memory and BAM that thing i loved in 6th grade is the only thing i can think about.
all of my interests float around in my head and compete to be in the forefront of my mind. right now i’m thinking about puppet history, spirk, avatar the last airbender, and the country of new zealand. i am a force to be reckoned with.

Every time I see mfs misuse the word hyperfixation I must resist the urge to scream Honestly, ESPECIALLY when it’s other neurodivergent people (specifically people with ADHD, as that’s what mainly causes hyperfixation, although it is not an experience entirely exclusive to ADHD) because you all should know better Y’all A hyperfixation is not the same as an interest. Even a strong interest that you’re very invested in. Hyperfixation stems from a persons inability to properly regulate focus. Hyperfixation is when a person becomes so fixated on something that they literally cannot stop focusing on it. Not something they just like or think about a lot. It is caused by an inability to focus a normal amount on something to the point were it disrupts their life because they are not focusing on anything else such as the world around them. Hyperfixations do not even have to be about something you like. Hyperfixations over things that you dislike or even that actively upset you can and do happen. Using hyperfixation as a replacement term for an interest is harmful because not only does it water down the terms and misconstrue what it is for people who can’t have hyperfixations, it also misconstrues it for people who do who may not realize that they are going through this struggle because what a hyperfixation is has been portrayed incorrectly to them.

TV show: look at this characters. They’re bullied bc they’re an outcast and don’t fit in.
Neurotypicals: Omg they’re so quirky and relatable. I love them.
Neurodivergents: They’re my new comfort character bc I’m and outcast and don’t fit in and am bullied bc of it.
Neurotypicals: lol eww cringe

Combining two hyperfixations and thinking about them at the same time is like when Remy Ratatouille combines the strawberry and the cheese
