The Hunger Games is going to live on because real life people insist on acting like the characters called out in the books.

The mods on r/HungerGames on Reddit are actively removing posts about actor Hunger Shafer getting arrested for protesting against the US funding the ongoing genocide in Palestine, insisting that it's not relevant to The Hunger Games.

Anyone who read the books or anyone who even understood the movies should know how relevant it is to the series. Even if one is illiterate and really can't make the connection, Hunter is part of the cast of the movie adaptation and the news about her would automatically be relevant to The Hunger Games.

Some "fans" of the series insist on having lengthy discussions about better arena ideas, better Quarter Quell ideas, essentially how to better torture fictional people. When called out, they would often say it's fictional, we wouldn't be like this with real life people! Well, look how hypocritical they are. Because not only are the mods shutting down the conversations, there are numerous people in the deleted posts saying stuff like Palestinians are terrorists and Nazis.

This is so ironic I don't think even a political satire writer like Suzanne Collins would write something like this. It's just so bleak and absurd and almost makes certain people (me) lose all hope about humanity.

I really wish The Hunger Games isn't as realistic as it is, but sadly, it's fucking realistic.

Your leg shook anxiously as you sat on the couch beside of elliot and his hand slid down and he held your hand in his, circling his thumb over your hand.

“calm down” he whispered smiling at you.

how could you not be nervous?

rue had been your best friend since preschool, you’d gone through every phase together and you had been so close since day one.

you’d told her everything, about every kiss, every partner you’d had, every secret, everything. And she told you everything, all about Jules and her first times smoking weed, you’d been there with her for her dad, and she told you everything.

you heard the footsteps coming into the room.

you looked up at your best friend, the dark circles under her eyes and the anger in her face, when she clenched her fists and started screaming at Jules.

your vision started to blur and you felt the tears coming.

she wasn’t the girl you’d become friends with in preschool, that girl had been lost to addiction and the shell of her was looking back at you.

“you”

she said storming over to you.

“rue don’t” elliot said

“fuck you” she said slapping him and then she focused her attention back onto you.

“i pity you honestly” she laughed

“what?” you asked, what was she talking about.

“oh you didn’t know?”

you looked over to elliot and he looked down into his lap, Rue started chuckling dryly.

“he’s fucking Jules”

your heart dropped into the pit of your stomach as sadness overwhelmed you, you shook your head “no” it couldn’t be, could it?

all the times he’d been there for you, he’d comforted you during your worst times and it was all a lie. He was fucking your best friend and you had to find out from someone else.

you looked away from Rue and looked at him, his eyes were sympathetic “i’m sorry” he said, his voice soft.

you scoffed and tears started streaming down your face.

“fuck this” you said and you got up.

“Y/n” Elliot called out.

“yeah go cry to your fucking mommy” Rue called out.

“Rue that’s enough” her mom said.

you stormed outside and walked to your car, and you sat down in the drivers seat. You laughed out of the irony, even if she was doing it to hurt you Rue still told you everything.
