Adrien Majewski, France, 1898-99
Effluvia from a hand resting on a photographic plate...
A magnetiser and well-known healer, Majewski made several series of experiments in 1898 and 1899 to record the magnetic fluid – contemporary accounts mention its rare powers – on a sensitized plate. The photographs were mostly obtained by the process called humid, in which the sensitised plate was immersed in a hydro-quinone bath the side covered with gelatin facing downward. The hand was resting on the glass side of the plate or was held a few centimeters away. The pose generally lasted 20 mins.

Humid
Remus sat up. He ran his hand through his sweaty hair and got up to open the window. He breathed a sigh of relief as the salty night air touched his face. On hot, humid nights like this, even their strongest cooling charms didn’t take all of the moisture out of the air in their bedroom.
He never knew how Sirius could sleep in this heat, but Sirius also didn’t run several degrees hotter than a normal person close to the full moon. He took a moment to enjoy this view of his husband, who was deeply asleep. Sprawled on his back and bathed in the soft moonlight, Sirius was as beautiful as ever.
Leaving the window open, he approached the bed slowly. His side had cooled a bit even in the few minutes he’d been up and he laid back down as the ocean breeze reached him. Sirius must have felt him move, and snuggled into him again. Remus adjusted their position, and pressed a kiss to his forehead. Sirius’s eyes fluttered, but didn’t open as Remus put his head down and began to drift back to sleep.

The rain has finally started... The drops hitting the tile roof sound comforting, and already the air feels cleaner, lighter, as the humidity is washed out of it.

Feels really nice out. Really humid after the rains last night. Million other places I'd rather be than work right now....

I went to the Queer Liberation March today in NYC, which is not a parade but a protest, with no corporate sponsors. And at a time when corporations are folding like little babies at moderate levels of right-wing blowback --- as we all always fucking knew they would --- it was good to remember that when no one else shows up for us, we show up for us. Queer Liberation will not be sponsored by Wells Fargo. Queer liberation will be brought about by people with homemade protest signs and furry suits and leather harnesses and tee shirts they have bejazzled to say DYKE
