I think one shame about the way comics have written out the whole "Bruce marries an alien while Betty's dead" thing is the fact that it overlooks the very real places where Betty would be upset, Bruce's traumas and communication issues and also instead skips straight into the pointless area of having Betty and Caiera be bitchy with each other in all fanworks

SHE HULK REVIEW
I feel like this show has some potential going forward. I do like the universe expansion that we’re seeing, and I feel like Jennifer Walters is a very interesting character with a good story to tell. I’m apprehensive about any non-sitcom series that immediately takes a lighter tone, as I feel like being too humorous can sometimes contrast with conflict later. When a lighthearted show tries to get serious or dark, it sometimes feels forced or out of character. However it certainly is possible, if it is written well, for a humorous show to take on a darker or more high-stakes conflict in a realistic way. There are things from the story that I like. She-Hulk has a very rich personality in the comics and, though her origin story changed, I feel like her essence has been pretty well preserved so far. I like that the story dives a little more into her family life and tries to flesh out her world a bit. I love the extra information that we get on Bruce’s character, I’m a big fan of the Sakaraan subplot and I like the shout-out to Tony Stark. I also especially like that they discuss how She-Hulk has an advantage in managing her anger because of the misogyny she faces daily. I think not only does this bring focus to an important issue, it also adds layers to the character and sets up a source of tension that could very meaningfully be worked in throughout the show. Especially if fans become attached to Walters and can experience her frustration and anger at the sexism she faces alongside her, which could be a powerful message. I also like the idea that was briefly mentioned of Jen’s Hulk having different triggers than Bruce’s, which I hope can be explored further in the show. I think the show should primarily focus on Jen, but if a second season follows I hope the show will flesh out not only She-Hulk, but also add a lot to the Hulk mythos that has been missing from the movies for years.
Having the first episode as a flash back was an interesting choice that I didn’t completely agree with. I feel like it creates a choppy exposition and a rushed feeling, as if the show is trying to rapidly establish a backstory so we can just jump in to the action. In my opinion, it would have been better to either start with the accident and build forward or to start where the show did, but slowly expand and build up the backstory throughout the episodes to make it feel more natural and more meaningful. Which leads me into my second point, how quickly the flashback ended.
Walters seemed to almost immediately come to peace with this life changing event. I think something that really builds viewers attachment to a character is watching them grow because it invests the viewer in how their journey ends. This feels like a missed opportunity for She-Hulk. Personally I’m not a fan of new, young heroes beating older and more experienced heroes when I’m invested in the older hero. I’ve watched Bruce Banner grow and evolve and become more than he ever thought he could. To me, She-Hulk immediately showing him up both invalidates his journey and gives her more power than her character deserves as she just got her strength. However I think her beating up Banner would’ve been more palatable if we got to see her wrestle with the emotional repercussions of becoming a hulk, but she seems to adapt without much issue and I think that this makes her character much less relatable and interesting. Walters immediately blows off the advice of someone who’s dealt with her condition for 15 years, and then succeeds anyway. I don’t like the implications for Bruce’s character and I feel like it doesn’t give She-Hulk the challenges that a rich character like her deserves. The conflict the writers seem to be setting up is dealing with the fallout of her hulk-side being revealed, which could be interesting but I think it was set up poorly.
First of all, the fight in the courtroom that revealed Jen’s identity seemed implausible. Why would a supervillain be in traffic court? Why would they have been issued a ticket instead of arrested? Why would they show up in full supervillain garb? Why would they wait until losing in traffic court to start destroying things? I understand the goal of turning superheroes and villains into a more common thing, as they are in the comics, as opposed to a select group that fights off alien invasions, but the way it’s done feels very clunky.
The show promises an interesting subplot of emotional turmoil when Jen is assigned to Emil Blonsky, but then dismisses any kind of conflict attached to the situation. The only conflict so far that doesn’t seem to be immediately and irrevocably resolved is Jen’s apprehension about being desired only for being She-Hulk and not for her skills as an attorney, though she seems to have mostly moved past her hesitation. All in all the show seems to keep setting up interesting situations and then not delivering.
Although this is certainly not a dealbreaker, it bears mentioning that the CGI for She-Hulk is slightly disappointing, and a much more realistic looking character could have been created. In my opinion, with several notable exceptions, Hulk CGI has declined since the first Hulk movie. My only other issue is with the fourth wall breaks. I know this is canon from the comics, but I don’t like it’s implications. Deadpool’s fourth wall breaks made more sense for two reasons. For one, he was driven insane, which seemed to be why he was aware of the audience. And for another, he was much more isolated in his original movie. For Jennifer Walters, neither of those conditions are true. Why is she aware of the audience? What gives her that ability? Furthermore, if she is aware of the audience, is Bruce? She is joining very well established characters, none of whom break the fourth wall, and it seems out of place for her alone to have that ability. I hope the show improves on its promise soon.
After seeing episode 3 I’m more hopeful. Although Walters seems to have moved past her apprehension about her job, sexism remains a major theme which provides a great touch point between real world conflict and superhero world conflict. Additionally, emotional conflict is being supplied by the court of public opinion, though that potential seems underdeveloped thus far. And finally, the main conflict seems to be being established via the mysterious “boss” who seems to, for unknown reasons, desire She-Hulks blood.

I think when it comes to making a gamma oc, one often needs to take in both the emotional and psychological aspects of their character regarding this and their character's transformation

Hi! the OG post seemed too personal to try a reblog. BUT
Your art is absolutely GORGEOUS. I cannot stress that enough. It’s honestly always a joy to get to see that something new was posted. The Hulkfam server I’m in has the ongoing phrase of “COME GET SOME SOUP” in which everyone nerds out about it because it’s SO GOOD.
The way you draw your characters? AMAZING. They are so ALIVE, I swear. It is absolutely amazing. I could RAMBLE about the facial expressions I swear, and the POSES. OH MY GOD.
While I know that won’t stop a phase of noticing the flaws in things, I just hope that it can help somewhat to at least mention how AMAZING YOUR ART IS.
Promise :D
Oooooh gosh thank you SO much AHHH!!!

I've been feeling really critical and stressed over my art these past few days, so it really means a lot to hear this! I don't want to let anyone down or anything, but I'll continue to do my best!!

My favorite part of hulkfam arc is the Bruce - human Skaar interactions, the deep emotional stuff...I'm afraid of how the MCU is gonna bastardize this story :/

Sometimes a family is a father, his ex-wife, his ex-father-in-law, his cousin, his estranged son from outer space, his estranged daughter from another dimension, and the teenager who followed him around 30 years ago. And sometimes they're all capable of using the power of their emotions to turn into superstrong brightly-colored bodybuilders

How about the smashers with a s/o who is a shapeshifter(more supernatural than alien) and they're too scared to show them what their true form
We're all gonna pretend that I got this recently rather than in 2019
SKAAR - He knows there's something...strange about you. You hardly stay for long, without some sort of reason to never get too close and it makes Skaar wonder what about him makes you so eager to get away. - It isn't until he walks into you dropping your form that Skaar freezes, eyes wide at what you really really look like. - You're scared. Of course you are, you've seen the webshow, you know that the Smashers don't take kindly to lies like this. And that's what scares you about this. What if they think you're there to harm them all? - But Skaar knows you, he knows what kind of person you are, that you would never hurt him, maybe he just...needs to trust you. - It takes some time to explain, but soon Skaar has you soothed, the shades of your hands, whether they're still human toned or something more inhuamn, feel safe in his own grey ones as Skaar works to reassure you that he loves you and he simply only wants you to feel safe, no matter what you look like. - He likes it though! Skaar loves seeing what you can do with your abilities, the shimmer of magic makes his eyes sparkle and he works to tell you this every day.
RICK - Not really shocked when he finds out, but definitely excited! - Rick's USED to weird stuff happening around him. His partner being a shapeshifter? Weird, but cool! Can you turn into Rick Astley babe? - It's not that shocking really, Rick's always been into this kinda stuff and he's not really one to judge when he's 7'0, blue and covered in armour plates. - He tries to not be overbearing with questions in case you're sensitive, but he really loves you and your powers! They're so neat and he finds himself staring with amazement at how easily you're able to change your features. - A part of Rick wishes he'd be able to do the same thing as well. Sure, he likes being A-bomb, being strong and capable like the rest of his family, but Rick misses the days where he was able to touch and feel things like everyone else. - He wouldn't call is "jealously", but...some nights, Rick finds himself staring at your hand in his, and wishing that he'd be able to feel the warmth of your fingers locked around his three.
JEN - She understands why you'd be scared, showing your true self to someone...Jen gets it. - Not many people know that the Sensational She-Hulk was once shy and meek, always wishing she was the kind of women society paints on the media, perfect and so effortless in how they look. Anyone who's been a young girl growing up knows the feeling of bombardment over what your body is supposed to be. - So she gets it, and Jen works to reassure you, to make you feel wonderful no matter what face you might be wearing at that time or day. - Jen likes to discuss your powers, more or less why you pick a certain feature, why you might not like a part of yourself. And then she works on making sure you never feel ashamed or scared of certain parts of yourself ever again. - She wonders a lot what made you decide that you needed to hide this aspect of yourself, and Jen wonders if you're hiding anything else from her at times. - Well, all she can do is support you, and hope that you feel more inclined on sharing parts of yourself now, rather than having to hide again.
RED - Admittedly, Red is a little thrown off and mad at first. He's a man brought up from the 40s, where back in those days, people you loved looked human and were honest about themselves. - If you lied about what you looked like, what other things had you been lying about? How could Red trust you? Why would you lie about this when Red looked even more like a monster? - He needs some time away from you at first, a lot to overcome when before, Red thought he could trust you without thinking. - It takes some time, but soon he realises that maybe you hid this aspect of yourself because it was safer and easier when you weren't around him? And if he was honest...maybe Red would like to hide his hulkness if he was able to. - So he apologises soon enough, flushed and unable to look you in the eyes from his shame over how he reacted. Relationships aren't always easy from a widower like him. Especially one so emotionally repressed. - He's gentle when learning more about you and your powers, only asking when you offer up information about it and Red always makes a point to keep some of his interest on the down low so he doesn't scare you. He remembers how he was with Hulk after all.
HULK -He's not scared, or upset that you hid this part of yourself from him. Hulk comes from Bruce's DID and he turns into a dozen different forms depending on who's fronting. - Not to mention the fact that the mother of two of his kids is a grey 7'0 alien, there's nothing wrong with you, he adores every part of you! - He finds himself marvelling at how pretty the change is, the thrum of magic that makes his nose wrinkle and sneeze cutely. And Hulk always enjoys seeing how pretty it is with the rippling of magic that changes your appearance. - It helps make Hulk feel a little better about himself too, the fact that he's able to shift his form, and it certainly helps when it's time to become more honest about Bruce Banner when he fronts for the first time with you. - And Hulk always reassures you that no matter what, he can smell you and who you are. It doesn't matter how different you look or the many faces you have - Hulk will always be able to sniff you out and know which person is his beloved partner. - Still, Hulk always makes a point to kiss you and adore however you choose to look on that day. He loves and supports every shift you have.
SAMUEL - It's hard at first for Samuel to hold back on questions. How does this shapeshifting work? How does it differ from the way Skrulls do it? Does it hurt? Do you need any mental focuses before you can shift? - You'll have to get him to slow down and back away on the questions if they keep coming and become too much for you. - But he's eager! This is something exciting and Samuel finds himself drawn to understanding how your powers work. Not out of a detached way, but to Samuel, he finds that being able to study how you work is his way of being able to get close to you. - He's enchanted by your powers and if there's any history for the magic that lets you shift, then Samuel dedicates himself to studying it so he knows more about this for you. - And maybe...a part of him loves that, the idea that you get the freedom to change yourself up and reflect how ever you feel in your looks. Especially with him as a bisexual man who likes expressing himself through makeup and more colourful and styled clothing.

Gal bodies
K so I've been thinking about the differences in the Glamma Gals and some notes about what I imagine their bodies to be like:
Lyra...would be muscled but tbh she was born a hulk and half of super woman so really it makes sense that her body type wouldn't be too different than the women she grew up with? Mostly because it's been proven that you increase muscle size with how much you work out as a human and since Lyra can't turn human and wasn't a result of genetic steroids? Admittedly probably has a body type like Jen usually has albeit with a bit more muscle.
Tumblr media
Betty, I'm actually really loving her body rn because its creepy! She's got the perfect look of a normal woman who's been shot into a monster. She's...perfect! Has a really weird form where you don't know if she really has any proper muscle but she's rather light to take herself up in the air tbh.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Jen! Okay I've always said that she has to be a fucking brickhouse and I'm not being a coward today. She can and will be ripped because Jen has shown to work out as a human and as a result, that makes her gigantic in hulk form. Plus, she's the first She-hulk so it makes sense that she would be the biggest. Though, she's definitely the type where you aren't too sure she's got the muscle until she ups her gamma and flicking shreds.
