One thing’s for certain—there was so much behind-the-scenes drama from the cast, that this reunion was bound to be interesting and revealing in many ways. While subsets of the cast had remained close over the years, all of the drama between them had certainly tarnished some relationships. And here Henry was, about to be at the center of it all.

And it’s Gavroche’s brothers, who don’t seem to have reached any security without him. The statistical element is sarcastic and cruel, with the police “counting” them for the purposes of the state but not helping them, instead “mislaying” them as if people could be misplaced. 

“As children, they have a right to flowers” is such a beautiful line, and it’s true. The children aren’t harming the people in the Luxembourg Gardens at any time; banning them from entering on regular days is just meant to hide their presence from those made uncomfortable by their poverty. As Hugo points out, appreciating beauty (as one does in a garden) should not mean neglecting those who suffer. His comments on the earth being like a child whose tears quickly dry also highlight that for these children, there would be hope if they were given support. As we saw with Cosette, children are resilient, and - if given love - they can quickly recover from horrible states. These children’s suffering is not natural or inevitable, but their natural strength from youth could help them flourish if they were anywhere near as cared for as this garden.

Hugo’s description of the garden is also really beautiful. It shows here that he was a poet, too. At the same time, while nature is “feasting,” the children are hungry. 

This bourgeois man is so cruel, but he’s symptomatic of a larger problem of waste. Children close to his son’s age are hungry in front of him, but he’s seeing the children as signs of “anarchy” because of their poverty, not as children in need of help. And his child doesn’t need the bread, but feeding the swans is somehow more “humane” and “compassionate” than feeding other people (although I must say, “A person may not want any more of his cake; but that is no reason for giving it away” is a funny line). We also get a pun! But it’s less funny than most puns in this book, probably because it comes from the bourgeois (cygnes (swans) and signes (signs)). 

The children get food, but only by chance. The callousness in this chapter is astounding, but unfortunately, not unrealistic.

I do love that Hugo is judging swans, though. He seems to have strong negative opinions of them, and they’re somewhat funny.

On another serious note, though, these children are another reminder of the losses brought about by Gavroche’s death. He may not have been caring for them any more, but we get a sense that he did this kind of thing regularly as a kind person and as a more seasoned gamin. His loss isn’t sad just because we miss him, but because of its consequences for his community as a whole.

Has Bruce Wayne ever attended therapy?

Yes, a couple of different times. How did those times go, you ask? Well, let's see:

Leslie Thompkins, otherwise known as "the woman who acted as the principal maternal figure in Bruce's life after his parents' death," was actually his childhood therapist....well, sort of. She wasn't a proper therapist but regularly worked with Alfred to try and help him get past his grief. As we can all see *gestures towards the man dressing up like a bat every night to fight crime and save others from experiencing his own childhood trauma* that worked out splendidly. He also sent her running off to Africa after the shitshow that was War Games, but that's a different discussion for a different time.

He's also been committed to Arkham on a couple of different occasions (both on purpose to investigate things and on accident the one time; don't ask me about that one, I don't actually remember anything about it). Which of course went great considering that Arkham is notoriously corrupt and at various points has been run and/or staffed by some of his villains, including Jeremiah Arkham, Hugo Strange, and Achilles Milo.

We don't talk about Heroes in Crisis in this house, but he did canonically visit Sanctuary on several occasions.

He also had a psych eval in the Batman: The Animated Series tie-in comics, The Batman Adventures, and hammed his way through it. It's by far the funniest and saddest depiction of Bruce in therapy we've gotten:

Reasonably, he SHOULD have gone to therapy after Jason's death like Dick canonically did. However, as far as I know he never did; he just went off on a self-destructive quest to get himself killed fighting crime until Tim swanned in to be his emotional support 13-year-old.

HELLO and WELCOME to the BARBIE SEXYMAN TOURNAMENT

who is the sexiest barbie man? i dunno fam, id say [host bias]- (if you know me, you know who it is , but i DIGRESS)

I have compiled a comprehensive list of 64 Barbie Men who are totally contenders for the Sexyman Title. This has come from scrolling the wiki, the Bad Barbie Discord, and of course, the silly Google Form I sent out however many days ago

It's split out into four separate brackets of 16- A, B, C, and D. I wAS going to have a special sorting like. Prettyboys and. uh. i have no clue what else but- It's completely random. This means it could have the worst or the best matchups and i think its gonna be really funny.

SO! Without further ado, here are the four brackets!

We will go two matchups per day, each lasting about a week, so more people can see them and so i dont FORGET so quickly. Then, at the end, we shall have a final fight between the winners of A and B, and C and D- with one more to find the ULTIMATE sexyman. (maybe with a surprise match at the end... hmm)
